Speaker 2 (00:53):
Well.

Speaker 1 (00:53):
Happy day one of NFL free agency. Maybe your team
went out and got the players they needed. Maybe they
over spent, which is what free agency is all about.
But it's like Christmas. It's like, eh, let's go spend
extra money at Christmas because it's worth it to get
that extra present for everybody. A big Christmas Day today,
especially if you got a new quarterback and his name
rhymes with the schmushtinschmials.

Speaker 3 (01:14):
Oh what a great day you had today.

Speaker 2 (01:16):
See, the bill won't come due for a little while,
in this case, several months before you actually have to,
you know, play with the new toy. It gets to
stay in the packaging, and you'll resist temptation an opportunity
to play with it until you get to September. And
then he said, I need to break the zeal and
then you find out whether it's any good.

Speaker 1 (01:34):
Wait a minute, wait wait, oh oh so all this excitement. Yeah,
but you had four months of real excitement. Ah, that
is true. Okay, well you did give me that, all right,
that's absolutely fine.

Speaker 2 (01:43):
Well, but that's just it anticipation, excitement for I've heard
good things about this toy. I've seen great reviews for it.
Of all its multi functions, I mean, it's like it's
like a transformer. There's different things you can do with it.
Right now, it's a car, and then it's abot and
it turns into a gun or a cassette, so I
can listen to the eighties hair metal that I like

(02:04):
so much, all of those things. But I won't find
out till September which one I got.

Speaker 3 (02:09):
That's the worst transformer ever. What do you do?

Speaker 1 (02:11):
I turned into a cassette? So I got to find
a no, no, no, it's a it's a actually a track.
You have to go find something at a really big
garage shale to make it a track.

Speaker 2 (02:19):
That was it. That was a cool though sound wave
that he came with the cassettes that like turned into jaguars, okay, falcons. Yeah,
it was a pretty cool toy. We'll get to the jaguars,
except he kept losing the little cassettes because they were
really small.

Speaker 1 (02:33):
But a big day one of NFL free agency. So
much to get to in a day that, of course
headlined by the quarterbacks who have new destinations and none
bigger okay, and none bigger than the two moves today.
And you know, since you know we already mentioned his name,
the New York Jets get their new quarterback, the Aaron Rodgers'

(02:54):
successor will be justin Fields. And now you just now
you just know that I'm just gonna go to the
Steelers and they're gonna play each other this year. It's
gonna be Fields of the Jets and Rogers with the Steelers. Look,
this is something that came together pretty fast. You saw
a big tweet on social media from some purporting to
be Justin Field when when his relatives saying, Hey, trying

(03:15):
to connect the dots with Aaron Glenn and the Jets,
and today it went down And I gotta be honest,
I like it. And and then I was brought back
to reality because I started sitting here, I'm convincing myself, Oh,
we're going to the playoffs. We're gonna get ten wins.
They're gonna squak things out. It's gonna it's a new
day where we're gonna sneak up on people. And and
you know, Justin Fields, I always like, maybe I like

(03:35):
Justin Fields more than the average football fan did, but
I liked him more in Pittsburgh. I liked him more
in Chicago. I'm gonna love him. He's gonna run really well.
The Jet's gonna let him be what he what he
what he needs to be. And Garrett Wilson is happy,
he's liking tweets that when Justin Fields, you know, got
to the Jets, and I'm thinking about how they you know,
they got a defensive back today, they got the second
cornerback they needed to to really solidify that after losing

(03:57):
DJ Reid, I'm thinking they didn't have a lot of
holes to fill this. Yeah, I'm thinking we can sneak
to ten and seven. And then I have a conversation
with my wife and I said, hey, I gotta go.
I get a couple of things on the computer. Why go, ah,
Jet's just got a quarterback. She goes, ooh they get
and I go, they got Justin Fields from the Steelers
last year.

Speaker 3 (04:13):
I'm going upstairs. She goes, oh, how do you feel?
I go, I like it.

Speaker 1 (04:16):
And I started selling the same things, going I like this,
I like this, I like this, and she looks at me.
She goes, you know, you say the same thing every
year about the Jets quarterback that you got quarterback X
and that's why this year is gonna be great. And
you know what, the years are never great. And I
looked at it and I said, I just have to
be right once on this, that's all.

Speaker 3 (04:35):
I just need to be right once.

Speaker 1 (04:37):
And then I'm walking upstairs and I'm I'm stomping on
the stairs upstairs like I'm an upset teenager about like
I told I couldn't go out to a party on
Friday night, I'm going, why is she killing my.

Speaker 2 (04:46):
Buzz on this?

Speaker 1 (04:46):
But I'm like, no, you gotta go back now, excited
about Rogers, excited about Zach Willson, excited about Sea. Yeah, okay,
it's really been a run now getting Joe Flacko go
going all the way back now to everybody that we've had,
like yeah, yeah, you know, I do say that in
every year the Jets continually get it wrong. Whatever decision
they make is wrong at quarterback. And you know, I

(05:06):
had about all of eight seconds to enjoy that to
thing before my wife just gave me that big reality
checking just to hit me with that verbal barrage right
between the eyes.

Speaker 2 (05:14):
I think all of us with our fandom have experienced
that with significant others at some point in our lives,
because I know with my accent and certainly with my kids,
it's like, oh, how the White Sox looking. And for
years I was like, all right, young arms, and here's
a couple of new bats and whatever. Hey, you know,
barring some random sucking, you know, they'll be in the
mix in September and then everything would go to hell

(05:36):
and then we'd get to the Bear season and it
would be the same story with Northwestern do I need?
I mean, I sound like a broken record. It's pretty
much everything. There's a couple of little pieces in my
timeline of my life as a sports fan in this
earth that worked together pretty well. Blackhawks had a run,
Bulls had their run so long ago, Bears pop up

(06:01):
out of the weeds every now and again. Northwestern wins
a game now and again. Hey they're gona play in
the Big Ten tournaments. So that's fantastic. But all of
that to say, yeah, and the White Sox had two
thousand and five. So there you go. I just did
the checklist of my entire sporting life in tandem with
what you just talked about a lot right now.

Speaker 3 (06:19):
I don't think he gets back to you after this point.
I don't think he will.

Speaker 2 (06:22):
I don't know. I think he actually does more media now.
He might. He might try to charge you though for
the no.

Speaker 3 (06:26):
It would be like a middle finger emoji.

Speaker 2 (06:28):
Oh okay, well send it out. Let's let's see what
you get. But you look, I experienced the Justin fields.
I think I tweeted out after it went down, going boy.
I would have liked to see him play behind this
offensive line. High Ryan pulls high Bears front office. So yeah,
the curiosity becomes what they're able to assemble in front

(06:51):
of him. Breis Hall, Garrett Wilson's certainly. Garrett Wilson's happy
as hell. He's got to remember this is not running
through the daisies of lower tier big ten doesn't matter.

Speaker 1 (07:01):
Just think that that's how it's gonna be. Just think
that that's how it. Just be happy going into the Sorry, just.

Speaker 3 (07:08):
Be happy.

Speaker 1 (07:09):
I've already convinced myself, Okay, we gotta get a number
two wide receiver, but that that's something we can do
in free agency and then here and then here, and
I mean I'm back, man, I mean I'm back. I'm like,
I can see Justin Field's running for first downs, big
Aaron Glenn really excited, the hard ass coach that he
is exactly what what maybe the Jets need now coming
off of the last couple of years.

Speaker 3 (07:28):
And I'm excited. I'm like, I'm back.

Speaker 1 (07:30):
I'm like all I did, but really, all it took
for me to be back was the Jets to get
Justin Fields. Now that they went out and got you know,
they made a big trade and and and and and
swung Matthew Stafford or Dak Prescott or Josh Allen.

Speaker 3 (07:42):
No, no, no. All it took me to.

Speaker 1 (07:43):
Be back was we got Justin Fields, and I do.
I do admit I like him more than the average
pundit fan does.

Speaker 3 (07:50):
But you guys are going to suck.

Speaker 1 (07:51):
No, No, No ten and seven Wildcard Dark Horse Wildcard,
Dark Hors Wildcard more wins than you already had.

Speaker 3 (07:58):
No, we just need a couple more.

Speaker 2 (07:59):
We're still the odds for the Super Bowl didn't change.

Speaker 1 (08:02):
Jason the greatest signing in AFC East today, Zach Wilson's
gonna play.

Speaker 3 (08:07):
You guys twice.

Speaker 2 (08:07):
Oh hell yeah.

Speaker 1 (08:09):
I already had a friend of mine who is a
Dolphins fan, text me today going, he's gonna wind up
starting most of the season.

Speaker 3 (08:15):
Yeah, And I said, are you kidding? Week two?

Speaker 1 (08:17):
He'll be your big starter week two and get ready
because you know his mom will get a real big
Instagram presence in Miami, so you'll be I.

Speaker 2 (08:24):
Did have a fun headline that I saw that said
x X Broncos quarterback Wilson goes to Dolphin Ye, so
I was like, oh wow, that would probably taunted a
few folks. And you know, there was the stopover in Pittsburgh.

Speaker 1 (08:38):
But yeah, I'm back now. I mean, that's all it took.
I'm back. I mean, I'm back. I'm back. I'm excited.
I'm excited for the possibility of what There's no pressure
going in.

Speaker 4 (08:48):
No.

Speaker 3 (08:48):
I feel good, man, I feel good.

Speaker 1 (08:50):
I don't know why it, but this shows me how
low the bar is that the signing of Justin Fields.

Speaker 3 (08:56):
That's me incredibly excited for this season.

Speaker 2 (09:00):
Look, man, we find our wins each and every day.
That's what we've been preaching on this show for eleven years. Yeah,
we might wallow in our respective misery with our teams
as we go through the seasons and they rip our
souls out. But as soon as the season resets and
you look at the standings and it's advanced to the
new year where it says zero and zero all over
the places, it's like, let's go. And so for Justin

(09:23):
Field showing up on your doorsteps, it's a wonderful thing, right,
you have that win. For me, I have to listen
to everybody love the Bears again, which means that boat
is getting really overweighted. After Dolmen signed and it's like, oh,
I was like oh no, no. Between between the three
guys they bring in Tony Jackson and Dolman. It's like

(09:46):
you find.

Speaker 1 (09:47):
That this forty touchdown year for Caleb Williams coming, buddy,
you got no problems.

Speaker 2 (09:51):
He still has to play on time, But I.

Speaker 3 (09:54):
Don't see what can go wrong. Now for you guys,
it's gonna be great.

Speaker 2 (09:57):
Thanks Pal, I really appreciate putting that out there. Just
like that.

Speaker 1 (10:02):
Well, look the other, obviously, the other is signing today.
Sam A worse kept secret. We thought this was happening
for the last few days after Geno Smith gets dealt
to the Raiders, Uh, Sam Darnold to the Seattle Seahawks
three years or finalizing a deal between one hundred and
one hundred and ten million dollars. Now something on this
that you haven't gotten all day, And this is this
is what I thought of. What I didn't think of

(10:24):
the ramifications on the Seahawks. My first thing I thought
of is that this was a Vikings team that allowed
a guy to come in completely restart his career to
where he was the number one sought after quarterback in
free agency. Watch the guy throw for thirty five touchdowns
and four thousand yards and go to the Pro Bowl.

(10:45):
It's an It's one thing to say, yeah, we just
drafted our guy and JJ McCarthy got hurt or he
would have had the job. And you know, he had
a couple of really bad games at the end of
the year, and that was their excuse to move on
from him and not franchise him, and and and and let.

Speaker 3 (11:00):
Him go on. Like, hey, we're just glad they're not
doing it.

Speaker 1 (11:03):
But this is what I keep coming back to is
that you had a guy come in and do that
for you and become the number one sought after guy
in the offseason at the number one most important position
in the NFL, and you got nothing for him. You
could have franchised him and dealt him, franchised him, traded him.
Say you could have done something and you could have
gotten assets. Clearly, what is somebody not gonna go for Santos?

(11:26):
Shows how many teams are quarterback needy in the league.
Everybody's good. I want Sam, I want Sam Donald. Someone
is gonna trade for him, right, even if you get
some kind of asset. You allowed the guy to come
in and then you just watch him walk out. It's
like you didn't get a thing from him. You could
you could have found a way. You have to read
the market better and understand that Okay, we can franchise

(11:46):
tag Sam Donald then move on from him. There there's
a bunch of different things we can do so that
we don't just let him walk out for nothing, and
instead that's what the Vikings did. They let him walk
out for absolutely nothing.

Speaker 2 (11:57):
Yeah, I'm wondering if you get to the franchise tag
and go through that process and whether that extra seven
million dollars, which is, you know, not a small amount
of money in the grand scheme of things, is something
that would have been a sticking point, right, I mean,
you could do the dollar cost averaging and whatever else

(12:18):
so you get a bonus this year and lesser in
subsequent years. Or maybe they just did him a solid
to where it's like, you know, you came in and
you were a good soldier, and you gave us a
good year, and we're not going to hamstring in pick
your destination for a seventh round pick or fifth round
pick or whatever it was going to be.

Speaker 1 (12:36):
I mean, I get that in theory, you didn't want
to gamble because you really don't know when it comes
to money. But I was pretty sure that someone's gonna
give him a lot of money. Now, maybe not to
the tune of three years, one hundred and ten million dollars,
but when you see what the what the salaries are
in free agency, you know that it gets higher. So
you knew you were going to be able to spin
him off for some sort You could have gotten something

(12:57):
for him. And that's my whole thing is that it
was pretty easy. I could have been the GM and
I would have said, Okay, we're going to frances them,
see what's going on. We'll get to we'll get to
the regular seat, or we'll get to free agency. See
who needs a quarterback. Someone's gonna call it, okay, we
really want Sam Donald. We'll give you X, Y and Z. Okay, great,
and then you move on. It's like, okay, what did
you do just by franchising guy, just by putting that
a little bit of paperwork and sending it out to

(13:18):
his agent. You sit there and now I'm coming back
with an extra second round pick or an extra third
round pick, which is a starting player, right, I'm coming
back with something like that. And you don't need to
hold them hostage and go, well we got this deal here. No, No,
you could have just said, hey, great, and the first
great offer comes in.

Speaker 2 (13:32):
How about us?

Speaker 3 (13:33):
Like like Kramer when they said they wanted to give
him a million dollars and a lifetime.

Speaker 1 (13:36):
Supply of coffee and they said, we'll give you a
lifetime supply of coffee and he said, I'll take it,
like I would have done that, and they, hey, what
do you want? Yes, we didn't get We let Sam
Donald go. We like JJ McCarthy. We still turn him
into at least some kind of asset. You could have
done that and you didn't, And that's a big epic failure.

Speaker 2 (13:51):
Yeah, I wondering if you're floating that out in the marketplace.
You see that Gino goes for a third round pick,
But it was that Pete Carroll saying please, please, please,
that's the guy I want. They're like, what about Russell Wilson,
He's no, I liked him, Moore, give me Gino. So
he had at least a benchmark already in place, you know,

(14:12):
as the Seattle sitting there with the extra third round
pick that they picked up. But like again, it was
an extra seven million dollars that might have left them
holding the bag, like, ah, we signed him, did we did?
The franchise tag, come and get him, and we're not
giving him forty And as I said all along, whenever

(14:33):
we fight about what Sam Darnold's worth was gonna be
in the open marketplace, and here we are, it's between
one hundred and one hundred and ten. For three years.
It wasn't those two games against Detroit and the Rams.
It was the years before that, two twenty eighteen to
two thousand twenty three. No matter how many letters of

(14:53):
recommendation he got from old coaches, the tape was still there.

Speaker 1 (14:58):
Exit out about a Fresco exit swollen dome. There's your
epic family today by the Vikings that got nothing for
that season out of Darnold.

Speaker 3 (15:05):
If you're ready to.

(17:24):

in Baltimore, Washington Post Jay, what's happening, Bud?

Speaker 4 (17:31):
Finally keep track all these former Jets quarterbacks.

Speaker 3 (17:35):
Yeah, not only that, like, you know, I'm watching all
the signings.

Speaker 1 (17:38):
Dam going, boy, all these Jets from last year are
all signing big deals elsewhere did they kind of feel
like a team that's coming off a super Bowl rather
than hey, a five and twelve season and you know
we're starting over.

Speaker 3 (17:49):
But all these guys are getting all this money. It's insane.

Speaker 4 (17:53):
Yeah yeah, yeah yeah.

Speaker 1 (17:57):
All right, So speaking of quarterbacks, say, speaking of Jets
and ex Jets quarterbacks, right, two big stories today, Sam
Donald to the Seattle Seahawks.

Speaker 3 (18:05):
The Jets get justin fields? Which move? Do you like
most out of those two?

Speaker 4 (18:13):
Well, the way I'm looking at it is the Seahawks
saved money and got a third round pick with Sam Donald, right,
So to me, they got younger at the quarterback position,
they got I think better at least more upsided. Nope,

(18:38):
they believe you know, they upgraded on So I you know,
I'm not totally sold on Sam Donald, but your options
are really limited in this in this quarterback market, so
I kind of like it. Like I believe in John Schneider,
I believe in Mike McDonald. I think there'll be a plan.

(18:58):
We're starting to see that plan come to fruition, and
I look I like Justin Fields. I feel like Justin
Fields has still never been given a fair shot and
has had a raw deal, whether it was completely incompetent
coaching and incompetent management, or last year where he's four
and two and on a winning street and he gets
benched and then the other guy runs out of gas

(19:20):
and then unfortunately Fields is banged up, or I think
he would have played more down the stretch. But he
looked to me to be a player that you know,
it's not super sexy, it's not light in the world
on fire, but with the right things around him, I
think you could do worse than Justin Fields. The problem
for Justin Fields is not so sure what's around him.

(19:43):
Like I just don't really buy the offensive line. I
guess they'll get this should I mean, there's no excuse
not to get the running game going now again that
you've gotten somebody this mobile and this the ground at
the quarterback position. But by I don't know, man, it's
just nothing really ever works there and.

Speaker 3 (20:06):
Whatever they do is wrong.

Speaker 1 (20:07):
It doesn't matter what they could get Patrick Mahomes, it
would wind up being wrong. Like that's how it goes
for the Jets.

Speaker 4 (20:13):
He could probably overcome it. But there's not a whole
lot of mahomes. There's a problem that he hasn't been cloned,
at least that I'm aware of.

Speaker 2 (20:21):
Well, wait a couple of years, we'll see how that
the gestation process works. All right. So there in Baltimore,
you got to keep Ronnie Stanley check that box. Over
in Pittsburgh they bring in DK Metcalf. He and George
Pickens love to catch the ball deep routes right, thirteen
point five or higher average air yards. Who's slinging the rock?

Speaker 4 (20:41):
That's your question, Boyce. Since Aaron Rodgers, that would really
be something, you know, I could it be Daniel Jones,
Could it be you know, a reunion with Ross Aaron Rodgers.
Could they wait and make a trade for Kirk Cousins.
There there are options. I'm not going to sit here

(21:03):
and say that any of them are great. And boy
for Mike Tomlin, he finally got let's take it. Okay.
At one point in time, I had Roethlisberger Pouncy ab
and Le'Veon belt just on one side of the ball, right,
And I eventually got out of that. And now this
picking thing, I mean that's nothing. I mean that like

(21:24):
for for Tomlin, that's nothing. And so maybe it's just
not challenging enough, you know what I mean. He's like
I don't have enough crazy personalities to juggle. Hey, hey, Omar,
throw some more at me. Man, Let's let's come on,
come on, like make me earn earn my payjack, Like,
let's make sure we've got somebody monitoring everything our goofball

(21:47):
quarterback says, and let's get back into that market. Like
let's go like late stage Ben And that was awesome.
That was fun watching him, you know, three yards and
a cloud of dust in the passing game. You're watching
him just take years off Juju Smith Schuster's life with
all the medicine balls three and a half yards downfield.
Let's get somebody, let's get let's get back to that.

(22:07):
Like I don't know, man, I don't know. Uh, it
would be quite a move. I still don't think it's
a fit, but I guess we can't completely rule it out.

Speaker 1 (22:20):
I mean, dude, the crazy thing is that I feel
like for Aaron Rodgers, now it's either the Steelers or
the Giants or he's retiring, like like that's it. Like
I feel and I feel like there's much more momentum
now with the with the Steelers and going to the
Giants and it. And because I go from last week going, yeah,
I don't see a lot of teams that want to

(22:40):
but you see the quarterbacks and where they're going, and
and I feel like that's kind of it now. It's
like if if he doesn't go to the Steelers or
the Giants like like that, like there's nothing else going
to open up for him between now and the draft
and after, well, yas will get hurt.

Speaker 4 (22:51):
I mean that's like you know, now it didn't work
out for Tannehill last year, right, I mean he just
kind of sat and then sat and got forgotten about.
But like dudes will get hurt. I mean, there's going
to be somebody who pops an Achilles or tare an
acl like somebody you know of some significance, maybe not
even a starter, but maybe you know, a key backup.
I don't know, like there will be a trice in

(23:13):
at that position that there just will and it won't
all just be from contact. But yeah, I don't think
like I have always had a difficult time finding a
match for him, And like you figured the Raiders were
going to be one team that stewed older because of
the age of the coach, and they did, but it
was Gino. It wasn't completely geriatric. So you take that

(23:37):
off the table and you look at the rest of
the options and you know, there's just there's just there's
not much there. Yeah, I mean, it would be a
hell of a move for the Giant that it would
just happen with the Jets. To me, it would be
a hell of a move for the Steelers for just
just because I thought they were finally getting out of
the knucklehead business. Yeah. I don't know, man, I don't.

(24:05):
We've seen a lot of movement in this league, right,
I mean, we've seen a lot of movement in this league,
and guys who I'm sure he thinks are much lesser
than him are finding seats at the table at whatever
price point you want to talk about. We can go
through the whole range of moment. They're all getting fed
and he's not not to this point. I mean, it's
still early, but I'm kind of wicked it's early, but

(24:26):
it ain't. It ain't that early for him.

Speaker 2 (24:28):
Jason Locking for our guest The Jason Smith Show with
me Mike Harmon here live from the tirerac dot Com
Fox Sports Radio Studios. You hear Jason one oh five
seven the Fan in Baltimore, Reaedom Washington Post. Check him
out on Twitter slash x when it works at Jason
Locket for Along the Way. All right, So DeVante Adams
finds his way to the Los Angeles Rams, one of

(24:49):
his preferred destinations. So Cooper Cup, is he gonna end
up getting released or does someone look around and they
figure out a settlement on cash and move on.

Speaker 4 (25:00):
He's been available for so long, you know, I mean
he was, he was. I mean this time last year
you could have engage in conversations with them, and then
before the season and then at a deadline like it's
a really cumbersome contract, and I think if there was
any sort of value to be extracted from it, and
if there were enough gymnastics that somebody was convinced that

(25:20):
it needed to do, they had done it. But at
this point, I think it'd be best for him and
it'd be best for his suitors, just you know what
I mean, have a blank slate. And that's where I think.

Speaker 1 (25:33):
Do you think that when it comes to the Rams
and the move with Adams. Does this move them up
to equal footing with the with the Eagles up near
the Eagles command?

Speaker 3 (25:43):
Where does that? Where do you put that? With this
kind of move they made.

Speaker 4 (25:46):
Well, look, I think their division is going to be
as down as it's been in a long time. I
mean Seattle, you know, Mike Gable. I say, I want
to see what else they do, but I think the
forty nine ers are clearly in the Downturnam and you know,
I believe Arizona's viable when I see it with my
own eyes, So I think there could be a substitute

(26:06):
from that in the division. And then retaining Stafford, I
think we'll look back on and say it was definitely
the biggest move that anybody made in that division, regardless
of position. With the Eagles, I don't know. I don't
know if i'd say that. I mean, English been at
two or last three Super Bowls. I think it's kind
of the Eagles and everybody else in the NFC, you know,
like Detroit's had the brains rain. I want to buy

(26:29):
the Packers. I basically buy the Packers. But I bought
the Packers last year, you know, and it just never
came together. I don't think the quarterback was ever healthy,
but like so I think they could make a power move.
You know, Washington, A lot of people are going to
annoint Washington. I think Washington next year might end up
looking a whole lot like Houston this past year, where
year two was not a magic carpet ride. Year two

(26:51):
was a lot tougher from schedule through everything else and
not linear in this league. And to me, they're getting older, man,
I don't know, like that's the youngest sunny team that
you're letting people like Jeremy chn leave your building and
your funnel over yourself to not like Zach Hirsch because
I hurts at the market, Like I all right, man,
you know thirty five year old linebackers. And so we'll see.

(27:15):
I think the Rams will be viable again. I have
a hard time in that conference, like stumping for a
lot of teams, Like I just I just do you know,
like who's really who's making power moves? I mean besides
you know, the Eagles and keeping bond and stuff like that,
Like I don't know, I kind of feel like the
NFC is kind of.

Speaker 2 (27:34):
Tepid since you brought them both up Washington and Houston
the Laramie Tunsel trade four draft choices. As I recall, CJ.
Stroud was planting on his ass quite frequently. That was
the guy that kept him up right. So I mean,
you like lottery tickets or what if you're in the
planet Houston.

Speaker 4 (27:56):
Yeah, I mean, look, I do think you can make
the case that he's gotten more handsy the holding and
these have been OFFTPI. He's maybe not what he was
a couple of years ago. And look, they're they're much
more privy to our you know, the medicals than anybody else.
And clearly they're thinking that that player is on the
decline or about them be declining. I think they got
a fair amount of value for him. But yeah, they're

(28:20):
they're I don't, I don't know. They're kind of in
betwixt and in between. I mean, the offensive line needed
a lot of help with him. And it's not it's
not a great class. I mean, we've seen a lot
of draft classes where I would have told you, oh, well,
it's no big deal. There's eight or ten offensive linemen
going in the first thirty five picks, you know what
I mean, and five or six of them will be really,

(28:41):
really good and a couple will be serviceable and a
couple will flame out, but you know, the odds are
usually not that bad at that position. This this traff
ain't that So I don't know if they have another
trick up their sleeve, you know, like maybe they think
like a guy like Cam Robinson is you know, above
replacement level. But even those guys, I mean, look at
the money that's going around for offensive lineman and not

(29:02):
that accomplished offensive lineman. So no, I think it's a
if I'm a touching fan right now, I'm waiting for
two or three other shoes to drop, and I'm hoping
that you know, they're like Gucci loafers and they're not
like I don't know, like Kis you know, okads or
something like that. He's at least Vans, you know, I'm not.

Speaker 1 (29:25):
Sure sure, not Lorii or like the end Ones right,
the shack sneakers you can get like a pay Less.

Speaker 3 (29:30):
Sure you don't know the end Ones? Yeah, Like I.

Speaker 4 (29:32):
Don't want British Knights, you know what I mean? If
I don't want I don't want those? Was it l
a gear La?

Speaker 2 (29:40):
Sure?

Speaker 3 (29:41):
I don't want l a yeahel?

Speaker 4 (29:43):
Oh? Yeah, yeah, No I've kind of always had a
feel I can't I always had as I can't lump
them in with those other Jamokes.

Speaker 2 (29:51):
But that's just me on honesty.

Speaker 1 (29:53):
One oh five seven The Fan in Baltimore, Washington Post
NFL insider Jason Locking for it.

Speaker 3 (29:57):
Jay as always, Buddy, appreciate it.

Speaker 2 (29:59):
Man.

Speaker 3 (29:59):
We'll talk to next week.

Speaker 2 (30:00):
Enjoy the rest of free.

Speaker 4 (30:03):
There you go.

Speaker 1 (30:04):
British. I actually went in maybe within the last year.
I know, I went into uh Dix to get something,
just something for one.

Speaker 3 (30:12):
Of the by I forgot who was and Dick Sporting Goods. Oh,
I went to Dick Sporting Goods.

Speaker 1 (30:17):
I said that, yeah, and uh, I know they had
British Knights and I was almost geting, like for like
twenty dollars. I was almost going to get a pair,
but they were so narrow, like I can't even wear them.
I'd just be throwing twenty Starberries too. No, I wish
it definitely not a pair of Starbarrys.

Speaker 2 (30:33):
For a second there, I thought you were going to
go on a drunken escapade at last Resort.

Speaker 3 (30:37):
Where you're even Dick's last resort.

Speaker 2 (30:39):
By the way, you got l a gear and British
Knights and right now in the w W E you've got.

Speaker 4 (30:45):
L hey night. Yeah.

Speaker 1 (30:47):
Were you able to fit in those? Which was the
other shoot? Those British Knights. Oh no, No, they're too narrow,
That's what I was gonna say out. Maybe that's what
they would have fallen apart the next Yeah.

Speaker 2 (30:57):
But that's only when the seams busted and you were
able to spill your feet out like you were the
damn all.

Speaker 1 (31:02):
No, that's the best part of Starbury, so as you
can peel them out of the protective layer's supposed to
use and just wear like new sneakers like that fels
like a banana candy runner. Yeah, exit out VOUDI fresco
ex and swallowing down The Jason Smith Show with Mike Harmon,
Uh time out to find out what's trending in the
wide world of sports. The man has been called to
Von Marbury at Fox Sports Radio. He's got his own

(31:24):
sneaker line coming out any day.

Speaker 3 (31:26):
It's disager.

Speaker 5 (31:27):
He's got a statue too, Yeah for nineteen ninety nine
made in China.

Speaker 3 (31:31):
Sure.

Speaker 5 (31:31):
Yankees pitcher Garrett Cole will have Tommy John surgery tomorrow.

Speaker 3 (31:35):
He is out for the year.

Speaker 5 (31:36):
DH Gencarlo Stan has also injured both elbows. He called
it severe, and Rookie of the Year pitcher Luis Hill
of the Yanks is out with a lad strain. The
Dodgers reportedly gave manager Dave Roberts a four year extension.
It'll averaged just over eight million dollars per season in
nine seasons as a manager. His career winning percentage is
six twenty seven. He's appeared in four World Series. So

(31:57):
much NFL news as we do have come Wednesday, the
first day of the NFL's new league year. That's when
recent trades and signings become official. But the Seattle Seahawks
are signing quarterback Sam Darnold to a three year deal
fifty five million dollars guaranteed. It's potentially a one hundred
million dollar deal. Seattle traded quarterback Gino Smith to the
Raiders recently, and traded wide receiver DK Metcalf to the

(32:20):
Steelers and cut wide receiver Tyler Lockett. The Jets today
gave quarterback Justin Fields a two year contract with thirty
million dollars guaranteed. He was an Ohio State teammate of
Jets wide receiver Garrett Wilson. Washington traded four Pro Bowl
tackle Laramie Tunsel from the Texans for four draft choices,
including a second rounder next year. The Commanders will officially

(32:41):
get wide receiver Deebo Samuel from San Francisco on Wednesday
for a fifth rounder. The Browns acquired quarterback Kenny Pickett
from Philadelphia for quarterback Dorian Thompson Robinson and a fifth rounder.
Cleveland will draft number two overall next month, quarterback Zach
Wilson goes to the Dolphins. The Rams re signed backup
QB Jimmy Garoppa below. The Rams will reportedly cut wide

(33:02):
receiver Cooper Cup this week. Jacksonville signed quarterback Nick Mullins.
The Chargers are expected to sign running back Najie Harris.
The Chargers resigned linebacker Khalil Mack. New Orleans resigned defensive
end Chase Young, and the forty Niners reportedly will cut
fullback Kyle Yuschek to the NBA and currently ten seconds
to go at Memphis Grizzlies holding on against Phoenix one

(33:24):
twenty one eighteen despite thirty five points from Kevin Durant.
Denver was a winner at Oklahoma City won forty to
one twenty seven, and Brooklyn ended a seven game losing
streak beating the Lakers one eleven to one oh eight.
And guys, we had two conference finals for March Madness.
Troy is headed to the Dance after winning the Sun Belt.

(33:45):
Wofford was protecting a seven point lead late in the
Southern Conference Final against Furman.

Speaker 2 (33:51):
Foul foul Anderson Anderson, Three.

Speaker 4 (34:00):
Terriers aren't going dnsing baby, Whafford, don'ts forerbit ninety two
eighty five.

Speaker 3 (34:11):
Why I got a question? Was there a foul on
that plane? I want to make it. I don't think
they were gonna fil.

Speaker 5 (34:21):
Whammy, no wammy, know what happened on that Okay, congratulations
Wafford back to you, Thank you see Wafford Digital, Congratulations
for getting that to us.

Twenty five hundred dollars gift card a Tractor Supply. It's
all sponsored by Tractor Supply for life out here. Well,
coming up next some quarterback sign Already big moves on
day one a free agency? What is the move I
like the most. Here's a hint. It's not justin field.
I mean I love the justin field, but it's not
justin field.

Speaker 2 (35:10):
Shocking.

Speaker 3 (35:11):
What is it? That's next? Jason and Mike Fox.

Speaker 2 (35:15):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven

Speaker 3 (35:24):
Well, if there's dead people, it's got to count. I
mean you know, of course, yeah, I mean, you know,
the ultimate sacrifice unless you're Jesus, bring it back? Do
you want to change religions? I got a book that
was written by Jesus.

Speaker 2 (35:38):
No, no, no, Jason, did you know that Jesus lived
here in the good ol Usa?

Speaker 3 (35:44):
You need to watch Heretic on HBO right now. Okay,
incredible movie.

Speaker 2 (35:48):
Okay, I tried selling you on that when it was
in theaters. To okay, all right, Rich that is on
the one grand.

Speaker 3 (35:54):
Yeah, they're binging righteous gemstones in the other room right now.

Speaker 2 (35:56):
Oh nice, Yeah, but think about this, right the year
that you have for Hugh Grant, you go from being
an umph lumpa to a guy questioning all things metaphysical
and religion. It's great, okay, including some Mormon missionaries that are.

Speaker 3 (36:10):
You know you want to hear.

Speaker 1 (36:12):
I have a great religion thing to tell you guys
about in about ten minutes. I have a great religion
story from yesterday.

Speaker 2 (36:17):
I gotta tell you that it's very difficult.

Speaker 1 (36:21):
It's very difficult for me to tell the story, but
I will tell it coming up in ten minutes.

Speaker 3 (36:24):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (36:25):
Now we're here at day one of NFL free agency glorious.
Clearly the Jets are the big winners with Justin Fields
Super Bowl.

Speaker 3 (36:34):
But the move I like them.

Speaker 1 (36:35):
And I say the free agent period because I'm talking
about the period that from this weekend that led into
what we see today. So the free agent periods because
it's only one day, right, but the free agent period.
And you know I'm not lying when I say this,
because it's be difficult for me to say the move
I like the most. And I was okay with being
wrong because I said Hey, the Raiders are going to
wind up with either Sam Donald or Aaron Rodgers, right,

(36:58):
They're going to go bold a quarterback.

Speaker 3 (36:59):
This is what they're doing. Instead they get Gino Smith that.

Speaker 2 (37:03):
Did like forty five thousand hits. So thank you. Yeah,
Aliza calling us idiots.

Speaker 3 (37:08):
And I'm okay with that. I'm okay with being wrong.

Speaker 2 (37:10):
I'm with it because I'm.

Speaker 3 (37:11):
Okay with being wrong.

Speaker 1 (37:11):
I'm always I'm not wrong often, but I'm okay with
being wrong because this is actually better than either of them.
Because Gino Smith, if you haven't been watching the last
few years, the dude has become dynamic, all right. He's
a guy that can throw for four hundred yards a week.
Just the Seahawks got to a point where it was, okay,
he's thirty four, we've had the best of him the

(37:32):
last couple of years.

Speaker 3 (37:33):
It's not working.

Speaker 1 (37:34):
We just need to go in another direction, right, and
we feel like with knowing that, I'm sure they made
the move knowing that Sam Donald was gonna wind up
being their quarterback. So okay, what did they wind up doing?
They traded for seven years of a former washed up
Jets quarterback to think maybe now it can work Okay,
so I get what you're doing.

Speaker 2 (37:49):
Okay, well, but you also got the third round pick
and you got Sam Donald for seven million dollars less
than what Gino was reportedly asking.

Speaker 1 (37:56):
Sure, I mean so I get why they did it,
but Gino Smith, people don't understand the guy. The guy
can ball, and especially going back to a system where
he's reunited with the guy that gave him the chance
and Pete Carroll, the Raiders are gonna be fun again.
Not only that they're gonna put some points on the board,
because you know, people still think of well, Gino had
that one great year a couple of years ago, but

(38:17):
what is it. No, Gino's been solid. Look whoever they
have given him at wide receiver, he has helped turn
into a star.

Speaker 4 (38:23):
Right.

Speaker 1 (38:24):
They went from DK Metcalf, here comes Jackson Smith and
the JIGBA and now he's the number one receiver there.
They have always worked and Gino is a much better
quarterback than you think. He's a young thirty four. He
didn't have most of his twenties getting beat up and
getting hit, so you want to think his prime can
be another couple of years like which is why they
went out to get him. Because Pete Carroll's listen, We're
not doing some big total rebuild here. I'm you know,

(38:45):
I'm ninety four years old, so you know they need
to win now and going to get Gino. There's no
ramp up, all right. I mean, he's been consistently solid
and dynamic. They're gonna be even more fun and better
off than if they had Darnold trying to try to
work in a new system, more trying to make Aaron
Rodgers work, throwing him in like getting Gino smiths. Hey,
we can hit the ground running.

Speaker 4 (39:05):
Man.

Speaker 1 (39:06):
I'm telling you, the era of the Raiders being fun
and not just being a team we make fun of.
That era is over. They got some weapons there. Offensively,
Jacoby Myers is terrific wide receiver. The last few years
brock Bauers become the best tight end in football, and
a span of twelve weeks, like the Raiders, suddenly, man,
they got some stuff going on there.

Speaker 2 (39:24):
You ready to have a little bit of fun. I
pulled up the big grid of completable passes over twenty
yards and effective completion percentage. Gino Smith ranked second. Who
was first? Sam Darnold, Sam, Sam Sam and Zach Wilson. Yeah, yeah,
Ryan Fitzpatrick four is right there. Captain Kirk is third,

(39:48):
Russell Wilson in the moon ball, Bryce Young are some
of the next guys up. Point being that even though
you had the touchdown interception ratio, that was a bit
of an issue with the offensive linees that DK Metcalf
was pretty much just running burners the entire entire years, Like, hey,
go get it. We'll see what happens in Pittsburgh. But

(40:09):
for Gino, yeah, go find one one more receiver to
go with it. I think it works. I am looking
over at sweat going to the to the Cardinals at
his four year, seventy six million. Look you look at
the division. You gotta make some noise. They had a
lot of cap space. Offensively, They've already got a couple
of component parts to work with. Kyler Murray, go get

(40:29):
someone that can go chase down. What do I always say?
I need an attacker, I need a protector, and I
need a thrower. Check that box.

Speaker 3 (40:37):
And you know how Chris Berman would announce that.

Speaker 2 (40:39):
How would he do that?

Speaker 1 (40:40):
And clearly the Cardinals hoping he's gonna make the opponent
sweat till they bleed. Is that dope enough. Indeed, DJ See, I.

Speaker 2 (40:52):
Thought you were gonna talk about him making you sweat.

Speaker 1 (40:56):
It's not just the CNC Music Factory that's gonna make
you sweat here on sunsets.

Speaker 2 (41:04):
So there you go.

Speaker 1 (41:05):
There's a movie we like so far, the biggest movie
we like so far in free agency. What's a move
that was made that puts a team to be a
co super Bowl favorite? Because oh yeah, that happened too.
That's next right here,
