You're listening to Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 3 (00:28):
Big shoes to fill, but we will do this on
Aaron Torres sports Chris.
Speaker 2 (00:32):
Metch don't care about the conference tournament.
Speaker 3 (00:35):
Okay, all right, Cali Pari. We're gonna get to that
in a second. It's Erin Torres's favorite day of the
sports calendar.
Speaker 4 (00:42):
Can you at least let him have that. He's put
on a show, cal put on a show today. I'm
not mad at cal What a great day though.
Speaker 3 (00:49):
It is a great day. You and Dan Dockets calling
this the greatest sports day of the h of the calendar.
I sent that to you.
Speaker 4 (00:56):
Dan Dockets basically tweeted the exact same thing as me.
Speaker 3 (01:00):
Well, you're practicing basketball tarians, that's what you are. Yeah, yeah,
he is basketball tarians.
Speaker 4 (01:05):
Oh my goodness, I mean the game's tipped off where
we live nine am Eastern and it's just wall to wall.
Speaker 3 (01:11):
It just never stops.
Speaker 4 (01:14):
And as I said, yet, what we were feeling in
for Cavino and Rich yesterday, it's you get all these
teams playing more comparable teams, where a Duker and Auburn
they're only gonna play twice next weekend and they're probably
gonna have a blood in the first game. It means
more next weekend. But this to me is just it's
sports nirvana and I'm so happy to be sharing it
with you.
Speaker 3 (01:33):
We are broadcasting love from the tierreq dot com studios.
Tyreq dot com will help you get there on unmatched selection, fast,
free shipping, free road as a protection. You know over
ten thousand recommended installers, tireq dot com the way tire
buying should be. You've only got one hour left of
your greatest sports day, but I think it's gonna go
into Friday as well. The good news is we're on
the West Coast and we've got at least four more
(01:55):
hours of your favorite sports day of the year. I
told you mine is actually next Thursday, though there's less games.
There's something about the first day of the NCAA tournament
that is magnificent. You know, I'm a huge golf fan,
but I would pick the Masters, but there's so many
great days of the Masters. Whether it's the opening day
on Thursday, whether it's the final round on Sunday, whether
it's a moving day on Saturday. It's tough to pick one.
(02:16):
For me. It's next week, the week from today, in
the first round of the NCAA tournament, that first day
that I absolutely love. But there's the other side of
the coin erin Torres, which we're going to get to
later on in the show. We're Sports Day of the Year.
Ooh yes, yes, that's what I want you to start
racking your mind for. And in twenty minutes. Iconic sports locations,
(02:37):
and there's a reason why this is being brought up.
I want you to think of iconic, iconic sports locations,
iconic things in sports arenas or stadiums, something that is
just recognizable to all. And I'm not saying we're going
to build the Mount rushmore. But there's a point that
I want to make for something that's happening right now
(02:59):
and why it is actually more iconic than people think of.
Speaker 4 (03:02):
Okay, so we're not saying and I don't want to
give away any good ones.
Speaker 3 (03:05):
Yeah, let's hear it.
Speaker 4 (03:06):
But we're not saying Staples Center. We're saying the Kobe
and Gigs statue outside.
Speaker 3 (03:12):
Perfect Yes, that would be great, that would be a
great iconic things that if I stole one from somebody,
we want to find out what yours are, and then
I do have to give this, and then we're going
to hear from coach call again, even if it is
for two seconds, why not hear from coach call again.
Let's hear. Let's hear what he has to say.
Speaker 2 (03:29):
I don't care about the conference tournament.
Speaker 3 (03:30):
We're going to get to that in sixty seconds. But
I don't know. Aaron. If you realize next hour that
it is on, you and I will team up in
part two of Battle of the Sexes as you and
I take on Moncey Belangos and Brianna Murrow in a
showdown of who knows what about which sex? Oh wow,
(03:55):
the last time it was rich Ornberger and myself. We
lost a come from behind the fair in a tie
breaking fashion. To the ladies, ladies, are you ready to
defend your title tonight? Oh my goodness, they're more than ready.
Speaker 4 (04:09):
They're making already like they got some secret trick up
their sleeves.
Speaker 2 (04:14):
We're not even in the same room.
Speaker 3 (04:15):
I know you're not. That's the crazy part. You actually
can have tricks right between you guys. We're not even
in the same room this time. Eye. You know eighty
percent of communication is non verbal, That's true.
Speaker 5 (04:26):
True.
Speaker 3 (04:26):
I've got questions. Do you have the questions? Brie?
Speaker 4 (04:30):
Yes, we do.
Speaker 3 (04:30):
Yeah, Okay, so you both stalking Aaron? All right, then
we'll exchange and we'll have it Battle of the sexes.
That's coming up in the second half of tonight's show.
So be prepared and be prepared for more conference tournament talk.
Is that's where we go right now? All of this
great action Aaron Torre is his favorite day. But does
any of this matter? And Cooper Flag's injury today is
(04:51):
a reason why some have said why do we have
conference tournaments for a team like Duke? There was really
no benefits in playing over these next couple of days
in Charlotte. John Calipari has talked about it. In fact,
he said it a few days ago. This is what
coach cal had to say.
Speaker 2 (05:10):
I don't care about the conference tournament.
Speaker 3 (05:12):
Okay, now, that could have been from last year, That
could have been from the year before, It could have
been from the year before that, but that was earlier.
This week, they lose a heartbreaker today may end up
being the best thing for them. I think Arkansas should
be in the tournament. I don't think even though the
loss today to Ole miss and heartbreaking fashion great ending
should hurt them, especially in that strong conference. But he
doesn't see a need for conference tournaments. Where are you,
(05:36):
Aaron Torres in the need for these conference tournaments?
Speaker 4 (05:40):
Well, you can't say that we don't need them. Well,
it just I mean it serves a different value for
different teams. Right, So like the Southern Conference, the SoCon
has determined that this is the only way that they're
only so they the SoCon needs a conference tournament because
that's how they deter their automatic bid. Now you can
(06:02):
argue that, can I interject quickly?
Speaker 3 (06:06):
Sure, because the SoCon could say our automatic bid goes
to our regular season champion. Could but then your championship
game is not going to be put on ESPN where
your conference gets money. Correct, ESPN's not going to put
a conference championship game where there's an automatic bid not
on the line cool because the IVY in the IVY League,
Remember they used to just give it out at the
(06:26):
end of the regular season. Now they've developed a postseason
mini tournament, and now they give out the automatic bid
through that mini tournament.
Speaker 4 (06:35):
Yeah so so yeah, I mean, you could say there
is no value to any of them, but I just,
you know, I don't know that I believe that. I mean,
you know, first of all, look at a school like
usc IF if the Big Ten just gave out their
conference championship to the regular season champion, their auto bid
and didn't have a conference tournament, then the season's over.
(06:55):
So to me, and I think you and I might
have even talked about this on Cavie and Rich yesterday,
is why so one thing that I don't like with
these expanded conferences. The Big Ten in the ACC are
now at eighteen teams, and they've both decided that they
are not going to invite every single team in their conference.
I believe it's the bottom three in each and I
don't like that because the whole principle of March is, yeah,
(07:18):
even if the season didn't go ride, or you had
a lot of injuries or whatever, you still have the
opportunity to go to your conference tournament and get an
automatic bid. So I mean, in theory you can say
that they serve no purpose. I would probably disagree under
the under the current structure, you can't say that, but
you could.
Speaker 3 (07:36):
I don't know how to explain it. I don't want
to explain it.
Speaker 4 (07:39):
You can say like, like, all these conferences have determined
that they will give out their auto bid through a
conference tournament, so by definition they do matter. But that
is also a choice to give out the automatic bid
through a conference champion of the conference tournament. You know
what I'm saying.
Speaker 3 (07:54):
Yeah, the reason that the automatic bids are handed out
is so then ESPN broadcaster game and then you can
get that check from ESPN and there's an easy money
for you. And you just now you've seen brackets like
the Sun Belt, and you've seen what the West Coast
Conference has done. You try to make it so advantageous
for your top seeds that you get your best representative
(08:14):
in the NC DOUBLEA tournament, because when you get into
the NC DOUBLEA tournament, you want to put a good
foot forward, right, you want to pick up a conference win.
You want to be able to do that. So there's
a reason for all of this. Now, the conference tournament
in the Big Ten in the ACC. Here's what doesn't
make sense to me, because you and I both have
a problem with this. Where this happened in the Big
(08:37):
twelve in the first day of their tournament on Tuesday.
And this may be a sign of the times, but
it wasn't like we could turn on Fox Sports one
or ESPN or ESPN two and watch Cincinnati against Oklahoma State.
You had to log into ESPN Plus. And Peacock had
the first day of the Big Ten tournament. So yesterday
(09:01):
I'm watching there you go, I'm watching Ohio State in
Indiana on Peacock. Now, when you're not inviting everyone, why
they settle on fifteen schools, I don't know, because sixteen
would just make so much more Sense's I mean right?
Like one hundred percent? Like instead of having an you know,
Indiana Oregon in an eight to nine matchup, aver not
to play when it's just add a sixteen seed. Then
(09:22):
you just drop the nine seed down and have them
play another day another game. I don't know if if
the mark is the number of games that they've played,
they can play at fourteen, If that's where this is
the line where we don't make money anymore if we're
having fifteen and sixteen games. But if you could just
put games on Peacock, or you could put games on
(09:43):
ESPN Plus, or there's twenty different basketball games right now,
I would think you'd be getting some revenue for that.
So I agree, like I don't understand on why. I
can understand why you don't have eighteen. I don't understand
why you can't have sixteen, and like eighteen, maybe then
you're starting now. It's a week long affair, and there's
just a lot that comes to it if you want
to do it all in five days, I don't know
why they settle on fifteen. At least you could do
(10:05):
it to sixteen if you want it.
Speaker 4 (10:07):
The only thing that I could have thought of is
that they obviously all the leagues rent these buildings, and
you would obviously have to rent an extra day.
Speaker 3 (10:16):
That's the only logical reason.
Speaker 4 (10:18):
And I'm sure that the Big ten Commissioner of the
ACC Commissioner have answered this question throughout the week.
Speaker 3 (10:23):
I just haven't seen the answer.
Speaker 4 (10:24):
But I just I don't understand why, because again, to
the point of the conversation is are Are these conference
tournaments important? Do they matter? Do they this? Do say
that The argument of them mattering is that it gives
every team a chance to play their way into the
NCAA tournament. But you can't have every team with a chance,
by the way, in the NCAA tournament, when team fifteen,
when Team sixteen, seventeen and eighteen, and certain conferences didn't
(10:47):
get to go.
Speaker 3 (10:47):
Now, there could also be scheduling stuff. The Big Ten
does play on Sunday, you know they played this previous Sunday.
If you don't want to start the tournament forty eight
hours later in case one of those teams would have
been playing, that could be something as well. I just think,
you know, there's a lot of different reasons why, but
there's a lot that goes on with the conference tournaments
because it's not only the bottom, it is the top.
(11:09):
What benefit does it have for Duke to play in
that game today against Georgia Tech?
Speaker 4 (11:14):
But how many teams can you really say that about, right,
because like Florida is a top five team who is
absolutely playing for something this weekend.
Speaker 3 (11:21):
I agree with that, except from what we've seen the
committee over the last couple of years, that's true, not
take the advancement as far as they need it, So
get right on that. So a win on Friday is
more important than a win on Sunday, right.
Speaker 4 (11:38):
Yes, for people who aren't following, Dan is one hundred
percent right. The committee will never admit this, but it
does not seem that the results on Sunday seem to
be reflected in the big bracket. So, in other words,
if a team should, in theory move up a seed
line if they were to win a conference tournament on Sunday,
they generally are not given the benefit of the doubt
(11:59):
by the case.
Speaker 3 (12:00):
And so there's that portion of it. Now everybody's going
to bring you brought up USC as a possibility. They're
in this one point game with Purdue right now, seventy
two seventy one, twenty eight point three seconds left, Perdue
is up by one, and at the free throw line.
USC could go on an amazing run. I think anybody
(12:21):
who defends that any team can go on an amazing
run just goes to their back pocket, brings out their
phone and says twenty twenty four NC State, Sure, right,
Like that's that's the ultimate trump card to all of this.
But in reality, isn't that who really benefits? I mean,
the Big Twelve came out a couple of days ago
(12:42):
saying they're going to trim back their conference games from
twenty to eighteen. I don't get it. And you're still
playing a conference tournament. And the reason that I don't
get it, Aaron, is I get it in college football.
I get while the SEC would love to stay at
eight games, but is going to be going to nine
at some point. I understand why. I don't know if
(13:04):
having an extra loss hurts you in college basketball when
we're looking at seventeen and fifteen teams being on the
bubble right now and the possibility of expansion. So, in
that essence of it, what's the difference of playing two
more regular season games when you're still also playing a
conference tournament when every one of your team teams are
going to get an additional loss except one. So there's
(13:27):
I feel like there's even hypocrisy in some of that
of what are we really trying to do? So now
the Big Twelve is saying you're going to schedule two
out of conference powerhouses. Are you going to schedule two
more out of conference cupcakes? I don't twenty and twelve
in one league. Look at the acc look at the
records of Wake Forest right now in North Carolina, And
I know North Carolina's resume with quad one wins is atrocious.
(13:50):
But when we're talking about those numbers, Aaron, I don't
see like the difference. And so when we're talking about
the valuability of the value of a conference tournament, the
Big Twelve, it's more than willing to keep the conference
tournament where every team that enters except one is going
to get an additional loss, but they want to take
away two conference games. Like it doesn't It doesn't make
any sense. Just figure out a different way to do
(14:10):
your conference tournament. Unless because the money is so astronomical,
and I think that's the ultimate point. You have a sponsorship,
what is it the Phillip sixty six Big Twelve Tournament?
Speaker 4 (14:21):
Like that, Sean Modello is the official beer of the
Big Twelve Tournament about twenty times over the course of
this game, Like it.
Speaker 3 (14:26):
All does come back to money. But in the grand
scheme of things, how much are you really benefiting yourself? See?
Speaker 4 (14:32):
All I'll say is I'm the wrong person to ask
about this, because there's things in life right where like Hey,
you know, I know that hamburger isn't the best for me,
but darn it doesn't taste delicious, so I'm gonna eat
it anyway. It's like I understand that the conference tournaments
in some ways a duke is a perfect example, can
hurt you and probably doesn't help you. But I freaking
(14:54):
love them and they're so fun. And right now, Kansas
just took a lead on Arizona at the same time
that could tuck. He's playing Oklahoma, Ucon's at halftime with Nova,
and I love it. So I can hold two concurrent
thoughts is it's not the best way to determine a champion.
Even in the smaller conferences, it's certainly not the best
way to determine a champion, and the bigger conference is
(15:14):
for a lot of teams, there's more risk than reward.
Speaker 3 (15:18):
But I also freaking love it well. And when you
look at a bracketology, whether you look at Joe Lenardi,
Jerry Palm, like de Corsi, anybody who does a bracketology,
you're looking at your last four buys, you're looking at
your last four in, you're looking at your first four out.
When we're looking at graphics that Fox Sports won or
ESPN will put up or CBS Sports. That's what we're
(15:41):
looking at. We're looking at the top seeds. We're looking
at the bubble teams. True, and so that's who conference
tournaments matter for sure, But I'm not even sure if
it matters not for the top seeds because of what
we've seen in the past from the committee, and if
wins on Saturday and Sunday don't matter as much, then
why are these why are we playing those games?
Speaker 4 (16:02):
I'll say this season will be an interesting case study because.
Speaker 3 (16:06):
We have what we believe three number.
Speaker 4 (16:08):
One seeds locked up Houston, Auburn, and Duke. Every other
team that could, in theory be a number one seed
would have a championship game on Saturday.
Speaker 3 (16:16):
On Sunday, excuse me.
Speaker 4 (16:18):
And so you know, if a Michigan State were to
lose the Big Ten championship game in Florida, were to
win the SEC and Michigan State gets that last number
one seed, that's where you know, Because I've said this before,
Greg Sankie, the SEC commissioner, is the most powerful man
in college sports, and it seems like his conference tournament,
the teams that play in that Sunday game always get screwed.
Speaker 3 (16:39):
I think that would be.
Speaker 4 (16:40):
A scenario where where Greg Sankie would finally speak up
and say, hey, listen, if this isn't going to matter,
we got to We're going to take our.
Speaker 3 (16:48):
Game off a Sunday. So interesting and follow He's Aaron Taurres,
I'm Dan Byer. You know what else it is. It's
also the right to not it's suppost It's also the
right to be in Atlanta for the South Regional. So
when you're battling, when you're trying, when you're the SEC,
and you've got Auburn and you've got you've got Florida,
and heck, you even got Duke there, and Duke can
(17:10):
maybe go to the East Regional. But we talked about
Duke seeding going to Raleigh. The South Regional this year
is in Atlanta, and so big. Yeah, it's a big deal.
And you're not gonna by the way, you're not gonna
have a one two with the SEC in the same region,
So you're not I mean, they're gonna have to figure
out something. Of the SEC gets the number of teams
that they get in, you could see a conference matchup
in the second round. But you are not matching two
(17:33):
conference foes on a one to two line in the
same region. He's erin Torres. I'm Dan Byer. Is that
two inside? I don't think it is. I think people
understand like, you're not gonna have Yeah, you're not gonna
have Well, you're not gonna have. Auburn is the number
one seed in the South, and then I have Tennessee
as a two seed. You'd have to put Tennessee in
a different region where there's a non sec number one seed.
Speaker 4 (17:53):
Yes, because there are four teams for basically the top
two seed lines. So yeah, you would put Tennessee or
you know, let's say Tennessee and Alabama end up as
two seeds, you would put them in.
Speaker 3 (18:05):
The same region as Duke in Houston, not Auburn. And
in this case, I guess it would be Florida would
be the fourth number one. Absolutely absolutely, he is eron Torres.
I'm Dan Byer. I love nerding out on this stuff.
It's your favorite day of the year, It's my favorite
time of the year. Hit him up at Aaron Underscore Torres.
You can find me at Dan Byer on Fox or
aeron Torres, pot on TikTok and he can find and Instagram. Wow,
(18:28):
my Instagram is by your grams, but I don't do
much there, but I do open it up at buyer
talk on TikTok, and of course the aforementioned Blue Sky.
Hey Shay is here a technical producer bri Our Executive
producer Manci Milanias is at the news desk. She'll give
us an update of what's happening coming up at the
bottom of the hour. The most iconic sports location that
shines bright this week is one that you may not realize.
(18:53):
We'll tell you what it is next here on Fox
Sports Radio. It's a Jason Smith Show with Mike Carmen.
I'm Dan Byer, He's Aaron and torres As. We are
in for the guys. Right after the show, our podcast
will be going up. If you missed any of today's show,
be sure to listen to the podcast. Just search Jason
Smith and Mike carmeron wherever you get your podcasts, and
be sure to follow and review the podcast right at
(19:13):
five Stars if you will. And again, just search Jason
Smith and Mike carmeron whoever you get your podcasts, and
you'll find today's show and a best of version posted
right after we get off the air. Now, Jason and
Mike were not off today. They were actually in for
Cavino and Rich here earlier on Fox Sports Radio. So
if you want to hear what Jason and Mike did,
then you can always check out the podcast where Cavino
and Rich do it. So the guys were in this afternoon.
(19:35):
So Aaron and I are in for Jason and Mike tonight.
I do have to pass this along full disclosure. Cheddarhead
Gringo tweets in who I went to high school with
a buddy of mine now lives in Texas says, and
this is on my Pizza Hut Dallas Cowboys theory. Sure,
DeMarcus Lawrence throwing ultimate shade at his former team, New
(19:56):
Seahawks defensive end throwing ultimate shade at the Cowboys. If
you missed it earlier, this is what DeMarcus laws Lawrence
had to say about now being in Seattle and not
being in Dallas anymore. Oh, that was Joey Bosa. That
was Joey Bosa. We're gonna get to DeMarcus Lawrence. I
threw this at Shay completely just off the coff So
it's all good, Shay. If basically, DeMarcus Lawrence said, and
(20:20):
you can give me a thumbs up if you got it.
But the Marcus Lawrence basically said, We're not gonna be
winning a Super They're not gonna be winning a Super
Bowl in Dallas. Then he got into a Twitter war
with Michael Parsons. But this was the comment from the
Marcus Lawrence that started it all. So all that that
started the wildfire tonight. And I bring it up because
cheddarhead gringo, who I went to high school with, lives
in Texas now said I live with a Cowboys fan
(20:40):
who told me to turn off the game this year
so they don't get TV ratings. That's what That's what
Cowboy fans are dealing with with their own team right now.
Speaker 4 (20:49):
I'm telling you, my nephew is the most glasses half
full Cowboys person I had ever met. And the look
on his face, I mean, this is He's a young
guy's probably about twenty three, twenty four, where he has
a new born, so he's already got you know, he's
got a full time job, he's got a new born.
Speaker 3 (21:04):
He just moved into a house.
Speaker 4 (21:06):
And you think about the stress that that would put
on a person's life and it was all rainbow and
sunshine until I asked him about the Cowboys and you
just saw the life come out of his face, Like
I just.
Speaker 3 (21:19):
I just, I just he doesn't even have Akman.
Speaker 4 (21:23):
His glory days are Tony Romo batching a snap in
the playoffs, Like so the Seahawks, yes, remember it?
Speaker 3 (21:30):
Well?
Speaker 4 (21:30):
Yeah, And for people who missed the story I did,
he just basically said, I have no hope. He and
this was before Dak got hurt too. He was like,
he's like, I know what Dek is. I have a
decade of Dek. I know what he is. And you know,
he said the thing that, unfortunately, I think it's kind
of a reality that you don't really want to say
(21:51):
out loud, but it's kind of the thing. That's the
truth is that as long as Jerry's around, it's not
gonna get better. And you don't want Jerry to leave
because you know what that means. But the counter to
that is, as long as he's there, it's never going
to get back.
Speaker 3 (22:04):
And Jerry still thinks that he can do it and
it's about him, just like Pizza Hut thinks they can
do it. The recipe has changed the pizza is nowhere
near as good as it was thirty five years ago,
but they try to sell us on nostalgia and it's
just not working. That's my summation of what's going on
with the Dallas Cowboys. And if you want to check
out the beef between de Marcus Lawrence and Michaeh Parsons, yeah,
check them out on X because they are going back
and forth. We're going to check out Manzi Blanios, who's
(22:26):
at the news desk, to give us the latest on
what is happening tonight. And then we're going to ask
Maanzi and Brie and Shay and Aaron and I'll give
our answers of iconic sports locations. There's a reason this
isn't just random. I'm not throwing this out there. There's
something that's going on right now why I feel this
question needs to be asked. Manzi take it away, all right.
Speaker 6 (22:45):
I'm going to start in the Big ten because the
game between USC and twenty a thranked per Due just ended.
Speaker 3 (22:52):
It was rough guys.
Speaker 6 (22:53):
In the final possession. USC has the ball literally their
final possession, down by three. They had a player slip
and it became a turnover. Yeah, No, it was a
rough way to end. The boiler Makers survive seventy six
to seventy one. They literally allowed four points in about
the last four ish minutes of the game playing defense. There.
They're gonna face number twenty two Michigan. The other quarterfinal
(23:17):
games in the Big Ten. Number twenty four Illinois is
going to take on eleventh thranked Maryland, eighteenth ranked Wisconsin
against UCLA, and number twenty three Oregon taking on number
seven Michigan State.
Speaker 3 (23:28):
Right now, in the.
Speaker 6 (23:29):
ACC quarterfinal, it's a close one between SMU and ten
rank Clemson. Four minutes to go, Clemson up fifty two
to fifty one. I don't like these close games, and
I don't even care who wins. That's what's crazy about this.
But I don't like it. They're going to face whoever
wins this game blowouts.
Speaker 3 (23:47):
I know. No, I don't like bloos. I I don't
want blots.
Speaker 6 (23:52):
It makes me.
Speaker 4 (23:53):
MONTI was the only one sitting five feet from her
TV during the Super Bowl, like super invested, Like not at.
Speaker 3 (24:00):
All, not at all. You just won an eight game.
Speaker 6 (24:04):
I want a close game unless it's the Clippers, and
then I want them to pull away with five minutes
to go so that I don't have to sweat. I'm
sweating right now, and I don't even care who wins anyway,
because our studio.
Speaker 3 (24:14):
Well maybe that's what it is.
Speaker 6 (24:15):
They are gonna face Louisville, who won it against Stanford
earlier today with the buzzer beater thanks to Chucky Hepburn
Duke Star Cooper Flag left today's game. They did beat
Georgia Tech sprained left ankle x rays were negative, but
it's a long shot. That's gonna play tomorrow semi finals
against North Carolina.
Speaker 3 (24:32):
In the SEC.
Speaker 6 (24:33):
Tournament's second round, another close one late in the first half,
Oklahoma fifteenth rank Kentucky tied at twenty eight. Whoever wins
that one is gonna face fifth ranked Alabama. The other
quarterfinal matches in the SEC have been set. Texas is
gonna take on Tennessee twenty.
Speaker 3 (24:48):
One th rank.
Speaker 6 (24:49):
Missouri's gonna take on fourth ranked Florida Ole miss versus
number three Auburn. Now, let's check in on Adams team
Yukon in the Big East Tournament quarterfinal to Villanova forty
three to thirty eight, still early in the second half,
and in the Big Twelve quarter final Arizona topping Kansas
seventy to sixty seven with about six minutes to go
(25:11):
in the game. In the NBA, I don't think Curry
has hit four thousand threes. Let's see, cause he's only
hit one today and oh, you just hit it.
Speaker 3 (25:19):
I'm lying.
Speaker 6 (25:20):
Officially, four thousand threes for Steph Curry. Warriors on top
of the King seventy four to sixty seven halfway through
the third quarter.
Speaker 2 (25:28):
Other NBA news, Just in case.
Speaker 6 (25:30):
You want to know, San Antonio star Darren Fox is
going to undergo season ending surgery on Tuesday for ten
to in damage in his left pinky. So are the
Spurs tanking for Cooper Flag? They're joining in on.
Speaker 3 (25:41):
The phe thinks that yeah, me shutting down being available? Yeah, yes,
And I mean the Spurs have the luck. Listen. Do
you want him to go to Washington?
Speaker 4 (25:51):
No?
Speaker 3 (25:52):
Do you want him to go to Charlotte? No? Utah
is the stable spot. Yeah, and so I think, But
do you want another star in the Western Conference? You
do need something in the East. That's yeah, yea, yeah, yeah,
But it's not pretty. No, it's not pretty at all.
By the way, Manzi Studio is like a Northwestern hotel room.
Did you hear Chris Collins complain last night? Northwestern one
of the Big ten tournament and he was all mad
(26:13):
they lost today to Wisconsin's Monsey alluded to but he
was saying AC was out in our hotel, was eighty
five degrees in our rooms last night. I actually didn't
see this. Yes, he was all mad. Because what got
me to think about it? Aaron his conference tournaments and
Indianapolis is best suited to host these places to host
(26:34):
these events. But if you're bringing now fifteen schools to
certain places, do you have fifteen locations that you can
put these teams all at different spots? Do they? I
know in India you could probably put seven teams in
the big Blue Marriott and put them in other ones
where you're fine. But I'm not sure if all these
places are really equipped. And Chris Collins was not happy
(26:55):
with their hotel and the AC going out. I didn't
know you needed the AC in Indianapolis in early March,
but apparently you do. All I know is and I
think the thing is too.
Speaker 4 (27:06):
I could be wrong on this, but like the number
one seed gets the most preferential, you know, accommodations sure,
and so I only bring it up because Northwestern would
be I believe that happens because I remember a few
years ago, Yukon was like the worst seed in the
Vegas regional and they got stuck at the luxur Or
(27:28):
Circus Circus. Do you remember this, and ever like like
the rooms were flooded, like I don't even know you
could go.
Speaker 3 (27:35):
That's where they put Super Bowl media at the ex
Caliber and at the Luxor last year for the NFL.
Speaker 4 (27:41):
Yeah, somebody was covering it. A buddy of mine and
he's like, well, the team's staying there. I'm like, bro,
I'll book your Because he had never been in Vegas.
He's like, ah, I mean, I'll back. I'm like, bro,
it's it's bad. Like I don't want to say anything
that's going to get any of us in trouble. But
they already lost our Pizza Hut sponsorship.
Speaker 3 (27:59):
Yeah, well it happens. It happens. You'll see some things
at the lux Store.
Speaker 4 (28:05):
All I know is my buddy and I were walking
back from somewhere in Vegas last summer and somehow we
had to cut through the Circus circus and he like
wanted to check it out because he has young kids,
and he was like, bro, if I touch anything, I'm
gonna need to get a tetnis shot.
Speaker 3 (28:20):
That's all he said. He's like, if I get a cut,
We're going to the hospital because I'm gonna need a
tennis shot. I've never been. I've never been been to
some of the other spots, but not that one. I'm
not gonna take your kids. I don't know what the
most iconic spot is in Vegas. There's a bunch of
great ones sports wise, lacking just because of how new
the city is to professional sports. Can I say one
thing really quick on iconic spots? All time?
Speaker 4 (28:41):
Championship Week moment. This is a little emotional. Bill Walton,
doing the PAC twelve tournaments, sits there and says, I
was standing outside the Eiffel Tower today thinking about life
and love and whatever. And he was talking about the
Eiffel Tower outside the Paris Hotel in Vegas. All right,
Bill Walton, But I thought of that it being Championship Week.
Speaker 3 (29:02):
In all Manzi millennials. When I say iconic sports locations,
is there one that pops up into your mind? Now
you're a baseball fan, you love hoops. Iconic sports locations.
Speaker 2 (29:17):
I mean, I feel like there's several.
Speaker 6 (29:18):
But when you mentioned it, I instantly thought of that
terrible statue of Dwayne Wade outside of Miami Heats. I figure,
that's all the wrong reasons for that one, all right,
but that's what I first thought of.
Speaker 4 (29:30):
Say the basketball court outside the inu at Dome, No.
Speaker 6 (29:33):
Into a dome.
Speaker 2 (29:34):
What's awesome is all the jerseys inside spot.
Speaker 6 (29:37):
Yeah, the high school jerseys laid out throughout the whole arena.
Speaker 3 (29:40):
Have you been there yet? No, I haven't, great Spot,
I haven't three. If I were to say to you
iconic sports locations, said, I think I came up with
Fenway Park. I think that is a great, great nomination.
And what about Fenway Park stands out I say, like
the Green Monster. I agree. If do you have a
(30:00):
mount rushmore of iconic sports locations and symbols, green Monster
is on it. It just is. There's no doubt about it. Shay.
Would you like to get in on our anominee of sports,
I'd have to being in La Local, I'd have to
give it to the Coliseum. Okay, the Torch.
Speaker 5 (30:20):
The Torch, it's it was probably the only football stadium
we had in LA I mean, obviously of the rose
ball and that's great too, but the coliseum just has
always been and the Olympics was there. There's just so
much that you do. NASCAR goes there now and all that.
So it's it's it's the history.
Speaker 3 (30:34):
That is in that. Yes, within those walls is amazing.
Erin taurres well.
Speaker 4 (30:39):
So so are you asking for the arena or are
you asking for the thing inside the arena? Because those
are we discussed.
Speaker 3 (30:46):
Either either one go either way. I can go either one.
Speaker 4 (30:49):
We got big Big East Tournament at Madison Square Garden
would be the venue, sure, the mecca. But then yes,
best place to watch a college basketball game NBA as well.
But I'll also say that took my first trip to
fog out in field House last year. And when you
walk in, they have the sign that says pay heed
all who enter, beware of the fog. That's a very
famous thing when you get there, beware of the fog.
(31:12):
And it's like a huge deal when you go to
that arena.
Speaker 3 (31:15):
So spectacular nominations. Thank you both easily distancing monzes Dwayne
Wade's statue recommendation. Let me ask you this, Monzi, since
I brought up your name. What do you think about
the third hole at Oakmont with the church pews in golf?
I'm sorry, Okay, that's what I thought you would say.
(31:35):
Us open going to be at Oakmont this year in
one of the more popular holes is the third hole
with their church pew bunkers along the left side of
the fairway like a real church. They're called the church
pew bunkers. You can search and take a look, but yeah,
you'll find out, Brie. If I said the twelfth hole
Golden Bell at Augusta National, would that make any sense
(31:56):
to you? But not? Okay, that's the par three that
you hit over the world. Out of the lot of
iconic stuff at the Masters happens. The reason I'm bringing
these up are these courses. Masters comes up next week.
I love the Masters, but I don't know if they're
relatively known throughout the golf you know, world outside of
golf fans and the people who casually will watch the Masters.
(32:18):
If I said the Island Green at TPC Sawgrass, would
you know what I'm talking about in terms of golf,
The seventeenth hole at TPC Sawgrass. I've heard of it.
I've heard of it. Have you heard of the Island Green. Okay,
have you heard of it?
Speaker 6 (32:33):
Brie?
Speaker 3 (32:33):
I have not. Okay, this is completely is shooting down
my point. But Shae have you heard of it? I
have heard of it. Shaye plays golf. The Players Championship
is this week at TPC Sawgrass, and it's the The
island Green is the hole, and I actually think it's
the most iconic hole in all of golf. You talk
about Pebble Beach, you talk about Augusta National and all
(32:56):
these great courses. The point I'm bringing up is is
we think of these historic places like Madison Square Garden,
like Lawrence fog Allen Allenfield House in Lawrence, Kansas. When
you talk about Fenway Park in the Green Monster. There
are places in golf that have been around one hundred
years and our classic courses, the stadium course of the
(33:20):
TBC Sawgrass hasn't even been around fifty years, but it's
gained so much popularity that I actually think it's the
most famous hole in all of golf. When you see
replica holes and of courses being built having an island green, oh,
just like Sawgrass. So this week you're going to be
seeing a lot of golf highlights because the Players Championship,
you're always going to be seeing highlights from the seventeenth green. Mazi,
(33:42):
are you seeing the seventeenth green at Sawgrass? I am, yes,
I am. It's unique. It's like nothing you've ever seen before, right, Yes,
you know it's a.
Speaker 4 (33:51):
Cool golf holes. One with the one at the Waste
Management Open that's where it's It looks like the Roman
Colisseum where it's.
Speaker 3 (34:02):
Because they built stands around them. Yes, but when you
take when you take that down, it's just a normal
golf hole. This you don't need. It's surrounded by water.
The point being is I just think that for love
it or hate it, you have to respect the popularity
of the seventeenth hole at TBC Sawgrass Players Championship. Lucas
(34:23):
Glover leeds after round one today six under par and
Omonsi's had it in her updates throughout the night, and
with Rory McElroy being on his heels, I know she's
been hitting that throughout her updates. I just needed to
take this opportunity to give respect to a hole that,
by the way, comes under a lot of criticism people.
Some people absolutely can't stand it because they feel that
you should you shouldn't have to lift the ball off
(34:46):
the ground in golf to be able to complete the hole,
and basically you do unless you were to put all
the way around the island green and then walk on
the walkway. But it's truly one of the great great
iconic spots in all of the real quick how do
you get to the green is Yeah, there's a small walkway,
there's sliver you just walk around. But it is the
Seventeenth Toll. It's one of the one of the iconic
spots in golf. Golf historians may hate it, but I
(35:08):
think it's just risen to the level of respect and
I needed to bring it up, even if you guys
had no idea what I was talking about. I know
he's erin Torres. I'm Dan Byer and for Jason Smith
and Mike Carmon tonight on Fox Sports Radio. Getting a
load of info on the college basketball conference tournaments going on,
plus a crazy day in the NFL, and I got
(35:30):
to tell you the Bill's Mafia has done it again.
We'll explain next live from the tirec dot Com studio
here on the Jason Smith Show with Mike Carmon. He's
Erin Torres. I'm Dan Byer. That's next.
Speaker 2 (35:42):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific.
Speaker 3 (35:49):
Yeah, record breaker tonight's Steph Curry Warriors Radio Network. He's
eron Torres. I'm Dan Byer. You heard Monty mention it earlier.
That is how it sounded. Four thousand or Steph Curry.
Of course, he broke twenty five thousand points. Recently, Gianni's
broke the twenty thousand point barrier. Lebron did the fifty
thousand combined. Lebron still has forty one thousand regular season points.
(36:13):
I know it's very easy to throw shade at Lebron,
but when Jannis has just reached twenty thousand, so Jannis
would just basically have to do his whole career again. Sure,
that's what Lebron has done scoring wise, So gave an
opportunity to to honor Steph Curry with the highlight there,
but also get into really what Lebron has done throughout
(36:34):
his career and what he's doing right now. It's amazing.
Like Yana's twenty thousand. Okay, just do that again and
then you'll be able to get close to what Lebron
is at right now.
Speaker 4 (36:42):
Well, I always say, like the funny part about the
goat debate, which is just this never ending thing, is
that what we're really arguing about is is Lebron the
first or is he only the second best person ever
at the job that he does. Like, nobody's debating that
he's pas last number two. It's just can he go
from two to one? Will he ever get there? And
(37:04):
when you actually put it in that context, you're like, wow,
that's actually a very dumb argument that who really cares.
Speaker 3 (37:08):

Mortgage helps you use rent payments to get closer to

Bill's Mafia has done it again. Okay, Bill's Mafia has
done it again. Joey Bosa let go by the Los
(37:31):
Angeles Chargers, goes and signs a deal with the Buffalo Bills.
There's been a lot of talk about him playing with
his brother Nick and San Francisco does not happen. Instead,
he goes to the Great State of New York, playing
in Upstate New York and in Buffalo. Joey Bosa on
why he chose to sign with the Bills in free
agency earlier today.
Speaker 7 (37:50):
I really enjoyed my years in LA but coming to
a team back like you know, the Ohio State days,
where you're really living in a football with an unbelievable
fan base, It's really got me excited. I'm ready to
experience something different now.
Speaker 3 (38:08):
I think. I don't want to say it's a heavy statement.
I think it's an absolutely refreshing statement. Sure, I think
it's such a tip of the cap to the Buffalo Bills.
I think it's such a tip of the cap to
Bill's mafia. I don't know how much Joey Bosa has
left in the tank. I don't know if he can
stay healthy for a full season. This should help their
defense as long as he's on the field. But he
could have went and played for his brother. Maybe the
(38:29):
Niners weren't offering as much. But to think that the
Bill's mafia in that football town atmosphere played a role
in his decision amazing.
Speaker 4 (38:37):
It is amazing. You want to hear an amazing story.
I interviewed Joey Bosa one time. He said that him
and his brother used to play a game on the
trampoline called Murder the Man with the Ball, which is
the most Bosa brother thing that I could ever imagine
them playing. Ever, they play that in the parking lot
of Yeah, he's gonna go out and murder him, Murder
(38:58):
the table that's on fire, That's what That's what they
should call it. But I just think it's awesome because.
Speaker 3 (39:04):
There's not We all love the NFL, we do, but
when we think of football towns, we usually think of
college towns. I think Pittsburgh's a football town, Green Bay's
a football town. Cleveland I would say, yeah, I would
say that as well. I think that's fair and it's
no disrespect to LA. He's not throwing shade at La.
LA is what it is and it's not a shot
(39:24):
at Charger fans. I don't think Charger fans should take
it personal at all. It's more of what Buffalo is
and what they get behind. And I just thought the
comment was pretty cool. It is very cool. He is
eron Torres. I'm dan Byer. It is the Jason Smith
Shield with Mike Harmon as we are in for the
guys again. They were in for Cavino and Rich earlier today,
so the guys have been busy. They're just not in tonight.
(39:44):
As we are live from the tirerec dot Com studios.
It is conference Championship week. Next week is the NCAA Tournament.
When will it go to seventy six? We talk about
it next on Fox
