some college hoops before we do, though, j mart one
(01:07):
pseudo important note from the NFL that we'll get to,
and then we will have a very light fun NFL segment.
But I think it's worth spending at least a moment
on a topic that Steve Desager just brought up. For
people who did not hear Disager's update at the top
of the hour, Cooper Cup he is headed to the
Seattle Seahawks three year, forty five million dollar contract for,
(01:29):
of course, what was a legend for a divisional rival
with the Los Angeles Rams. He is, of course a
guy that because of injuries, has missed time, only appeared
in twelve games this year, twelve games last year, two
seasons ago in twenty twenty three, a career low fifty
nine catches this year sixty seven catches, six touchdowns, But obviously,
(01:51):
given his age of thirty one going on thirty two,
in June, the Rams decided to move on. He heads
to Seattle. Does this story move the needle at all
for you, Jason Martin?
Speaker 5 (02:03):
Not really. Again, I have no idea what Seattle is
going to be moving on from Gino moving into Sam
and then you know you're gonna have JSN and now
you're gonna have Cooper Cup. So I'm not sure yet,
like Cooper Cup is gonna be, I guess your locket replacement.
(02:24):
And at this stage, after the injuries, like you mentioned,
he's not exactly the same player as he was, He's
still I think gonna be I'm trying to think like
Adam Thelen's been really good in Carolina, for example, and
there's been a few guys in the league over the
last haendful of years that have still been valuable pieces.
I think he can still be valuable, and I think
he's certainly is gonna want to prove that he can
(02:44):
still play. I just don't know how good Seattle is
going to be around him. Darnold is going from Justin
Jefferson and Jordan Addison to JSN who did have a
really good season this past year, and a Cooper Cup
that is past his prime at this stage. So I
(03:04):
kind of I mean, I raised an eyebrow a little bit.
I do like the fact that he stays in the division,
so he's going to see his old team twice, and
I do think that he is going to want to
prove that he could still play. I mean, he got
decent money considering all the circumstances and things that were
surrounding it, but I was interested. I'm glad he went
there not Dallas. How about that? Like Dallas would have
(03:27):
been just the worst place that I think he possibly
could have gone going to Seattle. I think he's gonna
be fine.
Speaker 3 (03:33):
Well, Dallas is very much a sinking ship, as DeMarcus
Lawrence told us yesterday.
Speaker 4 (03:39):
And we may get to that sound in a minute.
Speaker 3 (03:41):
But I'll tell you what, Jmart, the fact that you know,
you just so eloquently and totally transparently said that the
Cooper flag a Cooper flag, I'm gonna do that about
ten more times a seconds, all right. The Cooper cup
news really doesn't move the needle. So it got me
thinking about two or three days ago, I was filling
in here on Fox Sports Radio. We did a segment
(04:03):
on Russell Wilson meeting with the Cleveland Browns. Okay, yeah,
And I sat there and I really thought to myself.
I said, listen, it was a newsworthy topic in the moment.
So I'm not mad that we talked about it. But
I realized, whether Russell Wilson signs with the Browns or
the Giants, he.
Speaker 4 (04:19):
Probably won't go back to the Steelers. But Russell Wilson
is done. He's washed.
Speaker 3 (04:23):
We three teams three years not very good whatever, well
three teams in four years to get the point, and
it got me thinking. I was like, whether Russell Wilson
signs with the Giants, whether he signs with the Browns,
whether he signs with whatever. You know what we're gonna
be talking about next January into February, the same five
things that we've talked about this past January and last January.
(04:45):
It's gonna be Josh Allen, it's gonna be Patrick Mahomes,
it's gonna be the Eagles, it's gonna be the Lions,
and it's going to be whatever Lamar Jackson. Okay, And
so I thought this would be a fun segment to do.
And what we're gonna do Alex Tischer, w go ahead,
give us a little music. We are going to talk
about the least impactful moves of the NFL offseason, Like.
Speaker 5 (05:08):
Yeah, Washington Generals moves.
Speaker 4 (05:10):
Yes.
Speaker 3 (05:11):
So this is not for people listening at home. This
is not one, it's not intended to be a mean
spirited segment. Two, we're not gonna talk about the backup
offensive guard for the uh Tampa Bay Buccaneers. We're talking, Yes,
we are talking about moves that everyone in the media,
including probably me and j Mart at some point, have
(05:33):
tried to make a big deal, but really aren't. So
these are the least impactful moves of the twenty twenty
five NFL off season. I will start jmart and I'm
gonna stay right in Seattle. I know they're gonna try
to sell us well. Cooper Cup's there now. Well, as
you said, Jackson Smith and Jigba Wow had a great season.
He's a great young wide receiver. Sam Darnold, to me,
(05:56):
going to Seattle is one of the least impactful moves
that I have seen all NFL offseason. Listen, I know
he's a former top three pick, but guess what I
saw him with the Jets. It wasn't pretty. I saw
him with the Carolina Panthers. It wasn't pretty. Yes, I
know he was great to your point earlier in the segment,
Jason Martin against a really bad schedule with an elite
(06:19):
play caller in Kevin O'Connell and elite weapons headlined by
Justin Jefferson. Okay, but what I also saw was eighteen
of forty one for one hundred and sixty six yards
in Yeah, it was a lot of wow. I can't
believe I bought into this guy in Week eighteen in
(06:40):
a win and you get the number one seed scenario
against the Lions. Don't know if you saw they didn't win.
They lost thirty one to nine. Then in the playoffs
you get the Rams. By the way, you didn't even
have to play him in LA You got him in
Arizona twenty five of forty one touchdown, one interception, a
twenty seven to nine loss.
Speaker 4 (06:59):
Sam Donald, we made.
Speaker 3 (07:01):
A mountain out of a mole hill. It's not gonna matter.
They're not winning the division. I don't even know who
the coordinator is now that Ryan Grubb has gone.
Speaker 4 (07:10):
If that makes me uninformed, so be it.
Speaker 3 (07:12):
Sam Donald to me tops my least impactful moves of
the NFL offseason.
Speaker 4 (07:17):
One, do you have anything to add to Sam Donald?
Speaker 3 (07:19):
And then two, I want to hear your least impactful
move of the NFL offseason.
Speaker 5 (07:24):
It's not hard to go where you went, and there's
no reason really to say anything. He's going to have
to prove you wrong because the way that it has
gone for him in these big game situations just hasn't
been good enough. And what we saw at the end
of last season made sure he wasn't going to be
there with the Vikings next year. Whether it's McCarthy or
whether it's somebody else for McConnell and company. So no,
(07:47):
I don't have any problem with that. I'll i'll well,
I want to pick a quarterback, Yes, I want to
pick a quarterback. Actually, I was looking at my list
that I was kind of working on this afternoon this evening,
and I had a wide receiver running back in two
quarterbacks near the top. Daniel Jones to the Colts. Oooh
big one year fourteen mil. I understand they're not committing
(08:09):
a ton, but this isn't about worse. This is just
about not going to have any impact. So you now
have a competition between Anthony Richardson and Daniel Jones to
be QB one.
Speaker 2 (08:22):
Yikes, I mean, do I need to say more?
Speaker 5 (08:25):
I mean, you're out of there in giants Land and
they're trying to save their job in the wake of
you leaving. You then didn't of course play when you
were backing up where you went, and now you land
in a quarterback like a competition with Anthony Richardson in
one of the worst divisions in football. I can't say
(08:47):
anything about that. Like, Daniel Jones deserves to have an opportunity,
but that move is going to have absolutely no impact
on anything that matters when it comes to the season.
We will not be talking about that because it's going
to be a complete afterthought by like week five. It
doesn't even matter if he ends up playing or Anthony
Richardson ends up playing. That's not gonna be a particularly
(09:07):
dynamic offense.
Speaker 3 (09:08):
Jaymart You and I host the Saturday Night Recap into
Sunday show a lot of college football, but generally hour
three from one to two am Eastern. We preview the
biggest games, usually four or five of the big games
going into Sunday and Monday. How many Indianapolis Colts games
do you if I gave you the over under of
two and a half Indianapolis Colts games that we preview
(09:30):
next year, would you take the over the under?
Speaker 5 (09:33):
Oh, I'm taking the under? Yeah all day long? Like
I mean, what is there interesting to say about the Colts?
The cults are this close to becoming the Saints.
Speaker 4 (09:42):
Yeah, not a lot there.
Speaker 3 (09:44):
Daniel Jones brought in to compete with Anthony Richardson.
Speaker 4 (09:47):
That just about says it all.
Speaker 3 (09:48):
We got to bring in the crew producer Ian least
impactful move of the twenty twenty five NFL offseason.
Speaker 4 (09:57):
What do you got? Well?
Speaker 6 (09:59):
I like the Daniel Jones won from Jmart because, like,
I feel like it says something when the biggest impact
of you signing is like, the reason people are interested
is how it affects other quarterback dominoes falling. Like that's
why we cared about where he was gonna wine.
Speaker 3 (10:14):
We're hoping that we're hoping that it actually motivates our
top five first round pick.
Speaker 6 (10:19):
That would be great, that is Daniel Jones. Yeah, exactly,
to light a fire under his butt or whatever.
Speaker 4 (10:23):
But uh, I I'm.
Speaker 6 (10:26):
Juggling between a few. I think I'm gonna land on
Joey Bosa to the Bills.
Speaker 5 (10:30):
I like that one too.
Speaker 6 (10:32):
Actually, you were thinking he was gonna end up on
the Niners with his brother, which would have been fun.
But even if if that had happened, I feel like
we're all just kind of in agreement that that Joey
Bosa's career is kind of on the on the downturn
and he's not the same pass rusher that he used
to be.
Speaker 4 (10:46):
Also, he's on the Bills now.
Speaker 6 (10:47):
It's not like this is some crazy better situation for
an edge rusher than than the Chargers were he was
rushing across from Khalil Mack the last few years and
didn't really manage to do much obviously dealt with injuries.
But point is, I don't think the Bills are you know,
some greener pastures for him.
Speaker 4 (11:01):
So that's my answer. I think that's great because that's
a really good one.
Speaker 3 (11:06):
Especially not only because he's he's kind of, you know,
tail end of the career, really beat up, but to
your point, like when the Bills inevitably lose to the
Chiefs in the playoffs next year, nobody's gonna be like, Wow,
that Joey Bosa's signing didn't work out. It's gonna be like, no,
play calling wasn't good enough, Josh Allen didn't make the plays.
Should we keep Sean McDermott. So I really like that
one as well. Jamar anything to add on Joey Bosa
(11:28):
before we get over to da Saga.
Speaker 5 (11:29):
Only that he's hurt a lot, I know. So that's
the other things like is he gonna help you at all?
They cut von Miller, they let von Miller go, and
then you bring in Joey Bosa and Bosa's just an
injury risk, seems like, I know he's saying he wants
to win now, and I mean when he's played, there's
been moments when he's been dominant, but it just feels
like the Joey Bosa being a thing thing kind of
(11:50):
ended about four years ago.
Speaker 4 (11:51):
Yes, Steve Desager, you're you're over there chomping at the bit.
I know you got a good one.
Speaker 7 (11:56):
That's right inspired by this music, I'll say, the signings
of and Metal Arc Lemons.
Speaker 2 (12:01):
I knew that was about to sound.
Speaker 7 (12:05):
No, actually, pretty much two and a half years now running,
it's any Aaron Rodgers story sure has the least amount
of impact because it's been three years since he was great.
It's been three years since he was back to back MVP.
He's not making an impact on his team or the league,
just on all of these twenty four hour sports operations.
Speaker 3 (12:27):
Yes, well, he does certainly make an impact in what
we do.
Speaker 7 (12:29):
But yeah, it's like the Dallas Cowboys, who are not
making an impact in the NFL and have one playoff
win the last six years, but even as a seven
and ten team last year, they still draw eyeballs, they
still get TV ratings. But it's you know, Zeke a
year ago, he's signing his whoever they sign it running
back this year. I mean it's interesting to me because
I like football. But as far as impact, yes, yeah,
(12:52):
not that either.
Speaker 3 (12:53):
And I think you know we're going to do more
Aaron Rodgers at some point in the show as we
we await decision twenty twenty five here.
Speaker 4 (13:00):
But I mean, you're literally he's.
Speaker 5 (13:02):
Not good enough to hold up teams like this. He's
not good enough at this point to to basically treat
this like Knokotomy Plaza and have hostages like you no
get We've got to make decisions faster than this.
Speaker 4 (13:14):
Well, let me ask you this really quick.
Speaker 7 (13:17):
How about this for the next show? Is Aaron Rodgers
a Christmas movie?
Speaker 4 (13:20):
Or Oh my god, there see Aaron, I got you one.
If you want me to riff real quick? Oh, Alex
Tyscher coming in with the NFL content the top rope?
Speaker 8 (13:31):
You ready for this? DK Metcalf to Pittsburgh.
Speaker 5 (13:35):
You know what I had it written down? I like
that one.
Speaker 4 (13:37):
I don't know why.
Speaker 8 (13:39):
Go to the worst team possible with an aging quarterback
and a team that literally went on first in Goland
through It's when you know what they were supposed to
do with Marshawn, but it gave him a career. The
reason why I'm disappointed he went to Pittsburgh now he
should have been a top five pick in the draft.
This guy is a beast of a man that literally
could probably make any crappy quarterback look halfway decent with
his skill and abilities. And this guy is literally a
(14:02):
mogul in the position. This is why wide receivers are
not respected because the best and one that we haven't seen.
Who knows how long this guy could single handedly change
the aspects of that position. And guess where you went again,
Russell Wilson, where is he by the way, how many
people are fighting for him nowhere?
Speaker 4 (14:17):
And that's that's the thing. Who's going to be throwing
to him?
Speaker 8 (14:20):
Just saying and wasted defensive head coach and wasted.
Speaker 3 (14:26):
Fourth best team in that third best I guess, not fourth,
definitely not fourth Browns. That's my thing with Rogers too,
to get to kind of tie them together if Rogers
somehow ends up in Pittsburgh. To Sager's point, oh my god,
this network and listen, I'm not criticizing anybody. It's what
we will all do, including Jason and I Tomorrow on
our show on Saturday.
Speaker 5 (14:44):
For sure.
Speaker 3 (14:44):
But we're talking about the third best quarterback in a
division with two potential all time greats. Like, the best
case scenario is Mike Tomlin pulls Mike Tomlin things and
they go nine to eight.
Speaker 4 (14:54):
That is like literally the best case scenarios and run
the ball and run the ball.
Speaker 5 (14:58):
Yes, yep.
Speaker 3 (14:59):
And Ty Shirt's point, DK Metcalf star wide receiver. Yeah,
kind of hitting thirty whatever. You know, don't even know
who the quarterback is and we know Mike Thomas not
gonna open it up.
Speaker 4 (15:13):
It reminds me of Megatron.
Speaker 8 (15:14):
Yeah, it's upsetting.
Speaker 4 (15:17):
Well.
Speaker 7 (15:17):
Speaking of large humans, which Metcalf is Makai Beckton's going
to the Chargers listed at six seven, three seventy. Wow.
That ends the large human conversation.
Speaker 4 (15:28):
But that could be an impactful move though, it could absolutely.
Speaker 5 (15:31):
I got a Charger on my list that wasn't was
the exact opposite to me.
Speaker 7 (15:34):
Remember they had the high first round pick last year
and picked the tackle from Notre Dame, also large. These
guys could be next to each other on the.
Speaker 5 (15:41):
Line, is that alt? Yeah?
Speaker 4 (15:43):
Joe, Yeah, what do you got?
Speaker 5 (15:44):
J Martin Nagia Harris Sure, to nag Harris to the Chargers,
just you want to talk about the shoulder drug.
Speaker 4 (15:51):
Like I love.
Speaker 5 (15:51):
Najia Harris as a dude, like listening to him and
just seems like tons of dignity, tons of class, exactly
who you want your community. But when I start saying
things like that before I start talking about your football,
that's a problem because I'm trying to win football games.
I'm not trying to get Man of the Year awards.
When it comes to me putting together a football team.
Speaker 7 (16:12):
Well, it shows you where their running game is that
somebody else. Four yards of carry is an accomplishment. That's
the signing they need.
Speaker 5 (16:18):
Yeah, and the other thing we just talked about, all
the Steelers want to do is run the ball. Yet
they let him go. So what does that tell you
about his ability to do the thing that they most
want to do with their offense. Half of his game
is now with the Chargers for that offensive line.
Speaker 3 (16:31):
Yeah, really quick, because I I one, this isn't I
wouldn't put this at the top of the list. And
I feel bad because by all accounts, he's a great
guy who's resurrected his career.
Speaker 5 (16:41):
Here we go.
Speaker 4 (16:42):
We spent a lot of things.
Speaker 5 (16:42):
You just caveat every right there, Well, we just bless
your heart at him before you got to his name.
Speaker 3 (16:47):
Yeah, he once upon a time didn't know time zones.
But he's turned into a great quarterback. Uh yeah, great
is the wrong word.
Speaker 4 (16:54):
He's turned.
Speaker 3 (16:54):
He's turned his career into a very respectable career. Gino Smith,
I would say, probably fourth best quarterback.
Speaker 4 (17:01):
In that division.
Speaker 3 (17:02):
I know, J Martin, you probably watched Bo Nicks more
closely than I have, so you tell me if I'm wrong.
But yeah, we've seen Gino Smith and Pete Carroll Part one.
I don't know that I needed the sequel. That's all.
That's all I'm gonna say.
Speaker 5 (17:17):
Well said Gino Smith's had more playoff success than Justin Herbert.
Speaker 4 (17:21):
True, that's true. I can't argue with that.
Speaker 5 (17:25):
He never had to be.
Speaker 4 (17:29):
Staley is his head coach exactly.
Speaker 7 (17:31):
Anytime the playoffs get brought up with Justin Herbert, we
were on the air that night when they literally couldn't
get us stop the entire second half.
Speaker 3 (17:40):
By the way, I'm going to bring up a very
random topic that I'm only bringing up because J. Martin
De Sager and I have talked about it on our
Saturday show, time and time again. But was talking to
a buddy of mine who coaches college basketball. We're talking
about all these crazy net rankings this and that today
and we were talking about how, you know, analytics have
taken over everything and you know whatever. And he said
(18:00):
to me, he said, you know, the thing about analytics
is like, once you start like, you gotta stick with it.
Speaker 4 (18:04):
You're either the analytics guy or you're not.
Speaker 3 (18:07):
And I said, as a guy who's talked way too
much about Brandon Staley, I know exactly what you're talking about.
And even in casual conversation today, I was making fun
of Brandon Staley. So I feel bad.
Speaker 7 (18:17):
But it's a punchline that keeps hitting, like cafeteria food
or the US Post Office.
Speaker 4 (18:23):
It's hitting like cafeteria food, not in a good way.
Speaker 7 (18:26):
Can I just say before we go to break on
Fox TV, we're following this Yukon game. They're down four
with four minutes left in the semi final against Creighton.
Speaker 4 (18:34):
That's it. You don't count out Yukon in March. That's
all I'll say. They were.
Speaker 3 (18:37):
I know at one point they did make a twelve
zero run in this half and I will say, as
insignificant as some of those signings were, we have some
great college basketball right now. Arizona up twelve at the
under twelve timeout in the Big Twelve Tournament.
Speaker 4 (18:51):
No, you know, no puns intended, they're good.
Speaker 3 (18:53):
Louisville up nine in the ACC Semis. Winner plays Duke
and has the Segre just told you, we do have
Yukon cutting the lead significantly. By the way, Alabama up
on a very beat up Kentucky team in the SEC quarterfinals.
Speaker 4 (19:08):
Winner will play Florida.
Speaker 3 (19:12):
Yeah, I think uh, Kentucky star player who hit the
game winner last night is also out. And that's on
top of having two starters already out coming into this game.
So Kentucky limping into the NCAA tournament. They are one
of the many games going on right now in college hoops.
In about a little over an hour from now, probably
about an hour from now, we'll get back some college hoops.
(19:32):
But this is the Jason Smith Show with Mi Karmen.
Jason Smith and Mike Harmon are out. We will come back.
Jaymart I actually do want to talk about an impactful signing,
but a surprising signing because Miles Garrett is still a
Cleveland Brown.
Speaker 4 (19:47):
I'm surprised by it. I'm more surprised.
Speaker 5 (19:50):
Than an impactful sign.
Speaker 4 (19:52):
Well, I almost put him on my list.
Speaker 5 (19:53):
I'm not kidding you.
Speaker 4 (19:54):
Well, well you know good.
Speaker 3 (19:57):
There you go. There's your teas Miles Garrett. Does he matter?
We'll discuss that next. Jason Smith and Mike Carmon out,
Aeron Torres, Jason Martin In.
Speaker 2 (20:07):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 3 (20:18):
Welcome Back, Everybody, Jason Smith's Show with Mike Harmon. Jason
Smith Mike Harmon are out. I am are Torres, joined
by Jason Martin. We are taking you till two am Eastern.
By the way, Jason and Mike will be back on Monday,
So if you missed it, we just talked about the
least impactful moves of the NFL offseason so far, the
(20:42):
moves that you know everybody's gonna make a big deal
about now, but let's be real, they aren't gonna matter
come January and February. They're not knocking to Joe Burrow
or Patrick Mahomes or Josh Allen or Lamar Jackson off
the MVP list. They're not making the Eagles and whatever
a non Super Bowl tender, So let's go ahead and
(21:02):
talk about one that jmrt eloquently just said.
Speaker 4 (21:08):
Is it an impactful move? Is it not?
Speaker 3 (21:10):
We know that Miles Garrett is an insanely talented player.
Nobody would doubt his bona fides on the field, and
I think that's why there were a lot of people
that loved the sport of football that were very curious
when he.
Speaker 4 (21:23):
Demanded a trade.
Speaker 3 (21:24):
The thought process being, hey, you know, we've seen this
guy put up monster stats for a mediocre Cleveland Browns team,
and let's see what he can do, you know, with
a real team. Let's see what he can do in
meaningful games. By the way, fourteen sacks this past season
just a monster season. It is his sixth straight season
(21:44):
if I'm reading correctly, with at least twelve sacks in
a season. Fourteen sacks in twenty twenty four just another
just insane season for a guy who has not even
turned thirty yet. So again, I think the thought process was, hey,
let's see what the trademark it is for this guy.
Let's see him if he ends up in Buffalo or
(22:05):
Washington as they kind of build a team with Jaden
Daniels rookie contract. Well, unfortunately, he ended up exactly where
he started. He just signed, of course we all know,
within the last couple of days, an extension to stay
with the Cleveland Browns. We were all disappointed because again
we want to see what he would look like with
a contender. Well, Miles Garrett took the podium today to
(22:28):
talk about the new contract, but he wants to make
one thing clear.
Speaker 4 (22:32):
It's about winning.
Speaker 2 (22:33):
I think the fans will see that.
Speaker 5 (22:35):
You know, my hearts and right place has never been
about money. It's always been about winning.
Speaker 2 (22:38):
That's where my frustration lies.
Speaker 3 (22:41):
It's been all about winning. That's where my frustration lies.
Not about the money. As he signs a four year
extension that averages forty million per year with a one
hundred and twenty three million guarantee. Jay mart But it's
not about the money?
Speaker 4 (22:54):
Am I correct? Am I reading? Am I reading the
room correctly? On this one?
Speaker 5 (22:57):
Yeah? So if it isn't about the money, and usually
when someone says that, it is about the money. But
let's give him a benefit of the doubt and say, okay,
not about the money. What is it about He said,
it's about winning. Well, then why in the world are
you in Cleveland.
Speaker 3 (23:18):
Well he also doubled down by saying it's about the winning.
That's what's when Ben so.
Speaker 5 (23:22):
Rush, that's what frustrates Yeah, that's what frustrates me. Okay, so,
but here's the thing, like, you're not going to win there,
Miles Like. The reason why I was going to put
it in a list of least impactful, of course, had
nothing to do with his talent. He's all world, He's
as good as anybody in the league. But he ensured
that he's not going to be more relevant than just
(23:43):
his name individually because he stayed with a franchise that
has such absolute gaping crater as holes all over it,
starting of course with the quarterback position. Whoever, it's going
to be the purgatory that they are still living through
based off the dec decision that they made to give
the fully guaranteed contract to Deshaun Watson, the fact that
(24:04):
they don't have a ton of skill talent in terms
of their receiver position. So I mean, you look at
the rest of that division. You got Joe Burrow, You've
got Lamar Jackson. Pittsburgh is still up in the air,
but Pittsburgh's such a more stable organization than you are. Like,
all right, so you got Russell Wilson coming into the building, Miles,
I mean, what did Russell Wilson do in Pittsburgh last
(24:26):
year with better weapons than you have to offer him
in Cleveland. My whole argument, if he wanted to If
it's not about the money, then it's about blind loyalty,
I guess, because he could have been very impactful if
he had gone to any number of teams that were
a player or two away, especially on the defensive side
(24:48):
of the ball, to really putting themselves in the conversation.
Him staying where he was on a team that already
wasn't good enough to me makes this meaningless, Like and
him saying that he wants to winning is what matters,
and that's what's been frustrating. Well, he can't fix that, obviously,
if he could, I'm sure he would, because I do
(25:08):
think he cares and I do think that he wants
to win, and he's dominant in all facets. But he
has to know, because he's in that building day after
day that that's a dysfunctional disaster of a franchise at
this point, and him staying there just ensured that the
thing that's been frustrating him is going to continue to
(25:29):
frustrate him throughout the course of his time there.
Speaker 3 (25:32):
Yeah, it's just such an interesting deal because, you know, one,
first of all, clearly never going to criticize anybody for
taking money.
Speaker 4 (25:40):
I get it.
Speaker 3 (25:41):
And it's also just tough because I actually do respect
the guys. You know, Listen, We've had this conversation so
much in the NBA about these guys that are always
chasing the next thing and are never happy. And this
is guy's twenty nine years old, has played his entire
career in Cleveland, and I don't want to be the
(26:01):
guy that criticizes the guy that's staying where he's staying.
You know, again, you look at the NBA, all these
guys that jump from team to team to team. One
of the things I loved, and this is a little
bit random, but one of the things I loved about
Damian Lillard was how loyal he was for as long
as he was to the Portland Trailblazers, and when finally
he realized that they weren't gonna win it. I had
no problem with him demanding a trade. To me, that's
(26:22):
a lot different than say, you know, James Harden demanding
three or four different trades over three or four different years.
And so I respect that he clearly has ties to
that organization into that city, and I also understand that
it's about the money. I think my only real emotion
about this is just the disappointment of knowing the impact
(26:42):
that he could have on a team.
Speaker 4 (26:44):
You know, you look at we just talked about producer.
Speaker 3 (26:48):
Ian brought up, you know, Joey Bosa last segment going
to the Buffalo Bills, and it sounds big on paper
and it isn't and he's probably gonna be hurt, and
if he is, it's whatever. But I mean, Miles Garrett
with the Buffalo Bills could have been a game wrecker.
The Washington Commanders, you know, they were so close this year.
They have an emerging star quarterback. They trade for Deebo Samuel,
(27:10):
That guy in on that roster potentially in position to
be playing deep into the playoffs next year. Is he
the guy that puts that defense over the hump a
year from now? So I think that's really, the only
emotion that I really have about this J Mart is
just the idea that we could have seen him in
these high leverage games and we could have seen him
on a team that needed him. Now we won't. I
(27:32):
don't blame him for taking the money. I don't blame
him for being loyal to.
Speaker 4 (27:36):
The organization that drafted him.
Speaker 3 (27:38):
It's just kind of like, I'm just kind of bummed
because again, we joked about how many Colts games are
we even gonna talk about next year? And you know,
barring the Browns doing something shocking, I mean, obviously they
have the second pick, so in theory they could get
either Shad or Sanders or cam Ward. But realistically, it's
just another one of those teams that were just probably
not gonna talk about very much. And it's a you know,
(27:59):
it's just gonna be kind of a you know, putting
up big stats for a team that isn't very relevant.
Speaker 5 (28:04):
Yeah, and that to me is a shame. That's that
is unfortunate because I don't think they're going to be
in the mix. I don't think they're going to be
in the mix during the entire time that he's there.
I don't see things changing I bet they're probably nearing
a coaching change. The quarterback situation is a complete dumpster
(28:24):
fire at this stage, and Miles Garrett wants to win
and as his talent indicates that he should win, and
he just ensured that he can't. He ensured that he's
going to continue to be the guy that's talked about
on podcast after podcasts or radio show after radio show,
television show after television show. Oh man, when can he
get free? Because that was the Talk's like, man, what
(28:45):
if Miles Garrett was on X team or Y team?
That was a discussion. Then Miles Garrett wants out and
then oh well, Miles Garrett just resigned. It's like, okay, well,
now we can go ahead and put this to bet
because there's no reason to have this discussion anymore. He
had his opportunity to who uses leverage and get out
and go somewhere else and try something different, and he
chose to stay there. Good for Browns fans because he's
(29:08):
gonna be great for you, but it's not going to
be enough. One defensive player is not going to be
enough because he's already been there and it hasn't been
to this point. If you don't have a quarterback in
this league, you're not going very far. And I don't
see the quarterback there or in the draft or anywhere
else that's going to change that fortune.
Speaker 3 (29:29):
I don't either. Miles Garrett is a Cleveland Brown. Whether
it was about the money or not, to say it's
about the winning, but that's the frustrating part.
Speaker 4 (29:38):
Well, yeah, it's frustrating for all of us.
Speaker 3 (29:40):
This is the Jasus Smiths show of Mike Karma, Jason Smith,
Mike Harmon are out. We'll come back, news and noise
from another prominent defensive player on Wednesday. We'll get to
that in a moment, or I guess it was Thursday
before we do, though, news desk to say youre go ahead.
Speaker 7 (29:55):
We will get to the college hoops in a moment.
But I can't believe what I'm seeing in the NBA
because the Lakers are leading in the fourth quarter at Denver.
Context the Lakers are missing four injured starters tonight, four
of the five, including Lebron James and Luka Donzich. Austin Reeves, though,
has thirty one points and twelve assists, and the Lakers
(30:17):
have taken the lead at Denver one eight one oh
five with about six minutes to go. The Lakers were
about fifteen point underdogs in this game, and our leading
a lot of time in Laker history. It's a veritable
who's who in their uniforms on the court tonight, it's
a veritable who's that, and yet they're in the lead.
Dalton connect the rookie did start tonight and has twenty
(30:39):
seven points for LA. Cleveland won its sixteenth straight game,
a win at Memphis one thirty three, one twenty four
despite forty four points from Ja Moran. Minnesota won its
seventh in a row. Houston won its fifth straight game,
and Boston sent Miami to a sixth straight loss. The
Seattle Seahawks are signing wide receiver Cooper Cup from the
Rams to college hoops just a second to go on
(31:02):
Fox TV. In the other semifinal of the Big East Tournament,
Creighton celebrating.
Speaker 4 (31:07):
Little scuffle, big dunk by Jamiah Neil Hassan Diresh give
him a two headed shove to the chest.
Speaker 7 (31:14):
Didn't like it very much, so the two head coaches
speaking with the ref. Now apparently it's seventy one sixty two.
Creighton in the lead over Connecticut. Looks like the Creighton
Blue Jays. Tomorrow, we'll be facing one seed Saint John's
in the Big East Final. Saint John's eliminated Marquette, one
seed in the ACC Duke edge North Carolina as the
Tar Heels with four seconds left had the tying free
(31:35):
throw waved off due to a lane violation. The other
semi has Louisville ahead of Clemson with eight minutes to go,
fifty eight to forty five. In the Big Twelve tournament semifinals,
one seed Houston all over BYU seventy four to fifty four,
Arizona holding on seventy four to sixty six over a
top ten Texas Tech team with under five minutes to go.
(31:56):
The Big Ten quarterfinals went to Michigan State, Maryland in
Michigan and Wisconsin each one sec corner finals wins for
Auburn and Florida. The top two seeds three seed Alabama
in action right now and leading seventy nine sixty over
Kentucky with nine minutes to go. Tennessee one today the
one seed in the American Conference, Memphis advance winning a
(32:17):
quarterfinal eighty three eighty over which to State Iowa fired
coach Fran McCaffrey after fifteen years. Among the six NHL games,
Carolina and Winnipeg with wins, and Edmonton got an overtime
two to one victory at the Islanders. Or reminder, Nascars
on FS one again Sunday, and every IndyCar race this
season is on Fox TV, so that would include in
(32:39):
the Indy five hundred in late May, but IndyCar season
doesn't continue until March twenty third. It will end in August.
Speaker 4 (32:46):
Back to you, thank you very much, Steve the Sager.

Crayton is off to the Big East Championship Game where
they will face Yukon one versus two. The number one
(33:53):
seed in the Mountain West was just eliminated New Mexico.
Why that's noteworthy. The bracketologist killing it.
Speaker 5 (34:00):
Sorry's killing it right now? This killing it, ty Shirt.
Speaker 4 (34:07):
Getting love ty Shirt here on the uh on air.
Speaker 8 (34:11):
I'll tell you this. I almost sick today off. But
I saw j Mack and you were in Oh, that's
actually a fact.
Speaker 4 (34:17):
That's amazing.
Speaker 3 (34:18):
No, that's amazing, Bobo, who haven't seen it forever. He's
just hanging out right now. All the great board ops
are and it's like a board op, you know, Hall
of fame. It's like when Pacino and de Niro do
a show, do a movie together. That's like, uh, seeing
Bobo in studio with with Alex ty Shirt.
Speaker 4 (34:34):
So I hope Bobo's good. I hope everything's good.
Speaker 9 (34:37):
We just heard that DAP over the air. There there
was some in there was some in studio DAP. Yeah,
you know you don't get that on Jason and Mike.
So no, it's it's great to see you, Bobo. Fox
Sports Radio legend. He said something about Jason. I hope
it was positive. I'm not I'm not totally sure, but yes,
Jason Smith and Mike Harmon are out air. Trus j
(34:58):
mart are in alongside Ty Shirt, alongside producer Ian, alongside
Steve Disager, alongside Bobo, who of course has been a
Fox Sports radio staple four years, just came in studio.
Speaker 3 (35:09):
College hoops really quickly. Boise, we believe is on the bubble.
They just beat the number one seed New Mexico. Is
that enough for them to get an at large if
they don't win the Mount West Tournament.
Speaker 4 (35:20):
I'll tell you what, We're gonna have a bracketologist.
Speaker 3 (35:21):
Roco Miller from Field to sixty eight will join us
in about a half an hour from now about twelve
to twenty Eastern time, recapping the day, we'll talk about Carolina,
We'll talk about all these other games. By the way,
Alabama blowing out a shorthanded Kentucky team in the final
game of the SEC tournament, Arizona up six, hoping to
play Houston in the final of the Big Big twelve
(35:44):
tomorrow on Saturday. And of course, by the way, in
the ACC Louisville pulling away they would play Duke on
Saturday for the ACC title.
Speaker 4 (35:54):
All right, a.
Speaker 3 (35:55):
Lot of college hoops, but NFL never stops and listen
this odd We just talked, by the way, about Miles Garrett.
Speaker 4 (36:02):
He said resigning with the.
Speaker 3 (36:05):
Cleveland Cleveland players with the Cleveland Browns was not about
the money. It was about winning, which is quote why
I've been so frustrated, a little bit of a confusing quote.
But I'm never gonna I'm never gonna blame a guy
for staying loyal to the team that drafted him, guy
that did not stay long to the team that drafted him.
Speaker 4 (36:23):
DeMarcus Lawrence.
Speaker 3 (36:24):
He was introduced to the Seattle media yesterday on Thursday.
He is a Seattle Seahawk gave a very interesting reason
on why he decided to leave the Dallas Cowboys.
Speaker 5 (36:36):
Change.
Speaker 10 (36:36):
The scenery is always good, you know. But Dallas is
my home made my home there, you know, my family
lives there forever going to be there. But I know
for sure I'm not gonna win a Super Bowl there.
Speaker 4 (36:49):
That's about the eighth time I've heard it. It never
did better, every time, better every time.
Speaker 3 (36:54):
By the way, I'll say this, there was a back
and forth with Michaeh Parsons online. I don't even I mean,
we could get into that element of it, but that
tells you right there.
Speaker 4 (37:04):
I'm sorry for yelling.
Speaker 3 (37:05):
There's people in the cars, their studios or their speakers
are blowing up on the side of the car. I
apologize that is what. I appreciate the honesty. But that
is the state of the Dallas Cowboys right now.
Speaker 5 (37:18):
Jmark, Yeah, I mean the best of the first off,
DeMarcus Lawrence, now my favorite player in the league. Sure,
it's the natural way. He said it like he wasn't
even saying it to be mean. It was just like
in the middle of the conversation. I mean, I wasn't
gonna win there, like he just throws it out there.
Can you believe that the Dallas Cowboys have become just
(37:42):
this mediocre that that statement? It does make us laugh,
But it only makes us laugh because it's true. The
best jokes are the ones that there's an air of
truth behind them. It's why. It's why most of the
time when you listen to a comedian, you feel like
you're looking at their actual personality. I heard that said
by somebody over the last few weeks. I thought it
was really good. It's like you think you know them
based on the bit that they're doing or the way
(38:04):
that they're behaving, that there's something about that personality that
lands here. It's just like DeMarcus Lawrence is just basically
telling you he's just like, yeah, man, I mean there
was there used to be like pride to wearing that uniform. No,
it's gone. That's why I said, I'm glad Cooper Cup
didn't go there, Like, what was he going to get
out of that deal? He picked the Seattle Seahawks with
(38:25):
Sam Darnold.
Speaker 3 (38:27):
Tomorrow, that's where he's gonna gowks. Nothing wrong with that,
but that's my point.
Speaker 5 (38:31):
Like Dallas is now to that point where it's like
there's nothing special whatsoever about being associated with them, And
I look, maybe it would have been different. And here's
the other thing. And we didn't really say it this way,
but he said I wasn't going to win a super Bowl. There.
I guess that means Old Schottenheimer that that that might
not have been the higher that DeMarcus Lawrence thought was
(38:53):
going to take him to the Lombardy Well.
Speaker 3 (38:55):
And it's just like you know, we talked about the
to lead the hour kind of the moves that we're
trying to make a big deal out of that probably
don't matter. The Daniel Jones type moves, DK metcalf who's
gonna be his quarterback? Like you just talk about can
like are the Cowboys ever gonna be irrelevant?
Speaker 4 (39:13):
I don't know.
Speaker 3 (39:14):
But we're gonna find out just how close they're gonna
get this year, because you know, we've talked about it
time and time again. Nobody, I mean, you know, Dak
is saying the right things, that Jerry saying.
Speaker 4 (39:23):
The right things.
Speaker 3 (39:24):
Nobody believes this is a real organization, the real like
like nobody is going into next year saying like, well,
you know, you know who could surprise some people The
Dallas got no bad organization, bad coaching staff, bad ownership.
I know we're short on time, Jamartin, I'm gonna throw
it back to you. There's not a ton to add,
but it's just like it's just a disaster. We you know,
(39:45):
we got two more hours to talk Cowboys, but it
is just a train wreck there, DeMarcus Lawrence perfectly summed
up as a matter of fact, Ty Shirt, let's play
it one more time on the way out of here.
Speaker 5 (39:54):
Change.
Speaker 10 (39:54):
The scenery is always good, you know. But Dallas is
my home made my home there. You know, my family
live there. If I ever going to be there, but
I know for sure I'm not going to win a
Super Bowl there.
Speaker 4 (40:05):
House Cowboys.
Speaker 3 (40:06):
In twenty twenty five Fox Sports Radio Jason Smiths Show
with Mike Harmon, Jason Mike Out, Era Torres, Jason Martin
come Back, a lot of college troops discuss Fox Sports
Radio
