(00:51):
buying should be, By the way, tyshirt, what do we
call this? The slide over baby hours?
Speaker 4 (00:56):
That what the fellas call it? Do we still want
on a time? Okay?
Speaker 3 (01:00):
Is it not a suitable for twenty twenty five? Is
that the issue? Or probably? And I think also, like
you know, Jason and Mike just aren't that hip anymore.
I was gonna say, yeah, two old guys talking about
getting it on. You know, I don't know if that's
what's uh.
Speaker 5 (01:14):
I tried, Yeah, came with like a whole alcohol brand
first and everything.
Speaker 6 (01:17):
Whatever tequila.
Speaker 4 (01:18):
You know, is that what it's called for? Whatever you want,
whatever you want. J Mac wants invest I know, come on,
J Mart, Come on.
Speaker 6 (01:27):
J Mart. I mean it sounds like a winner to me.
Speaker 2 (01:31):
Come on, J Mart.
Speaker 6 (01:34):
Whatever. Yeah, I mean I think it's a It's look, man,
the slogans just roll right off the tongue. There's a lot.
There's a lot there. There's no question about that.
Speaker 4 (01:43):
Speaking of whatever. Aaron Rodgers, if there was, if there.
Speaker 7 (01:48):
Was a athlete.
Speaker 3 (01:51):
That just epitomized the word whatever. I mean, it has
to be Aaron Rodgers, right like whatever on his career,
whatever on where he plays, whatever, on his added too,
towards whatever. Alex Tucha, I know, we got to talk
at Aaron Rodgers. I actually do like that a lot.
And I just remember when I used to fill in,
there was a slide over baby hour.
Speaker 4 (02:10):
There was a little bubbly yeah, just like that.
Speaker 5 (02:14):
So it was so dope because like it's it's the
what is it called agains? Steve when we have that
past ten o'clock thing. What is it called safe Harbor?
Speaker 6 (02:23):
Yeah?
Speaker 5 (02:23):
Yeah, so it's like where it's a little bit more loose,
a little bit more fun. So, you know, like it's
that whole thing with drinking. It's five o'clock somewhere, So
I thought a ten o'clock slide over baby hour.
Speaker 6 (02:31):
So are there we're not talking if we're talking about
Aaron Rodgers, it's not whatever. It' tequila, it's whatever. What
was the thing that he was taking?
Speaker 4 (02:37):
Ayahuasca?
Speaker 6 (02:38):
Ayahuasca? That's it whatever, ayahuasca.
Speaker 4 (02:42):
Whatever, ayahuasca.
Speaker 3 (02:43):
The Aaron Rodgers story that that'll be the sixth part
Netflix documentary, although there was just a three part Netflix
documentary that even as a sports commentator, I couldn't get
through because I was just like this, did.
Speaker 6 (02:52):
You try hard? Pass?
Speaker 4 (02:54):
Yeah? So I did try?
Speaker 3 (02:55):
So this is the and I said, this is I've
been agers defender on a lot of things. But I
watched part one of three and it was so funny
because my wife was watching with me, and she knows
I like sports, and she's actually a marriage family therapist,
so you know, a lot of mental health, and she
was kind of into it because you know, Aaron Rodgers
(03:17):
got into the philosophical and this and that, and she's.
Speaker 4 (03:19):
Like, okay, you want to start an episode two?
Speaker 6 (03:22):
And I was like, no, I'm good.
Speaker 3 (03:24):
That's enough Aaron Rodgers. For me, it was it was
it was a lot just in video form. And I
was like, oh, now I get why he wears everyone thin.
Speaker 4 (03:35):
It was just it was just a lot of a
lot of just Aaron Rodgers.
Speaker 3 (03:38):
So I bring it up to say that as of
right now it is one oh four Eastern time on Saturday,
the fifteenth of March, Aaron Rodgers still doesn't have a team.
Feels like it's going to be either the Giants or
the Steelers. And I'll just ask you to like, let
me ask you. I mean, you know we talked in
hour two. By the way, if he missed it the podcast,
(04:00):
go back and check it out. But you know, we
talked about the idea of wherever he ends up. You know,
we're past the point of him making a tangible impact.
I mean, you know, if he's with the Steelers, are
they going to get to nine and eight? Maybe because
Mike Tomlin always goes over five hundred, But they're not
beating Burrow. They're not beating Lamar Jackson consistently and it
(04:21):
is whatever. So I guess I would just ask you, JMRT,
is there is there any team or do what one?
Where do you think he ends up? And two I
already know the answer because I just said it. But
I'm guessing you don't think it's going to be that
big of an impact.
Speaker 6 (04:36):
Yeah, No, I don't until until further notice, I don't.
I think he probably ends up in Pittsburgh. The reason
why is because I just can't fathom why you don't
retire if your only option is the Giants. And I
don't generally mean that like forever and forever, like it's
a terrible franchise, but right now, like, what are you
(04:57):
going to do if you go there like Pittsburgh at lea,
you know, they've got T. J. Watt and they've got
a brain trust that's been there forever, and then you
got the Giants that are completely dysfunctional, with the coaches
trying to save his own job and a general manager
says he's fed up, and you've got my league neighbors
who's really good. But then what I just don't look
at the rest of that and just say, yeah, he's
(05:18):
gonna go there. He had more going forward with the Jets,
and he couldn't win there. At the very least, I
think I'm going to Pittsburgh. And also I don't want
to play in that division. Like I understand the division,
the AFC North is difficult. I get it, NFC he's
pretty hard too. You're dealing with Jayden Daniels and the Commanders,
and you're dealing, of course with now the defending champions
(05:40):
of the Philadelphia Eagles. We cannot talk about the Cowboys
because we did that earlier. If you missed it, check
out the podcast in the first hour of the show
when we were I think it was the end of
the first hour when we kind of just buried them.
Well we didn't bury them, we just played the audio
to Marcus Lawrence because he handled it for us. But
I just figure it's the Steelers because the only place
where if I were Aaron Rodgers, I'd want to play, like, yeah, okay,
(06:04):
I'll go there. I mean, they just took a reclamation
project with Russell Wilson coming off what happened in Denver.
So if you want to go and have just a
kind of a quiet finish, but have some opportunity to
do something positively, you go to Pittsburgh, especially now that
you have DK Metcalf, you can throw the football too.
Speaker 3 (06:23):
Yeah, I think with Pittsburgh. To me, yes, that it
does make the most sense. The Giants, I guess you
have the offensive coach. Let me ask you this because
you know, I might have missed something, but I've heard
a lot of like there's mutual respect between Tomlin and Rogers.
(06:45):
Is there anything like confirmed on the record, like they
you know, they did a panel together.
Speaker 4 (06:51):
So I don't know.
Speaker 3 (06:52):
I've just heard a lot the last like two weeks
of like you know who you know, you know who
Tomlin has, you know who Rogers has a great deal
respect for, and vice versa is Mike Tomlin. And I'm like,
I mean, I get that Hall of Fame coach, hall
of Fame player. You think they'd have respect for each other.
But I don't know, it feels like there's more of
that relationship.
Speaker 4 (07:09):
I don't know.
Speaker 3 (07:11):
So one, I don't know if you'd have anything on that,
But two, I guess I would just say with the Steelers,
you know it's Tomlin.
Speaker 4 (07:19):
Whatever. I don't know.
Speaker 3 (07:21):
I don't know that I like either situation because I
think at least the Giants you have the offensive head coach.
But then again, it's the Giants. It's that division. Yeah,
I don't know. I'm I'm just talking nonsense right now.
It's two really not good options. But I do think
I'm with you with the Steelers.
Speaker 6 (07:38):
Yeah, I mean, I just I think the Steelers you
have you can look at that and say, well, you know,
we might make the playoffs. Giants aren't making the playoffs.
Giants are gonna be close. I would think to the playoffs. Pittsburgh,
you're going there again. You've got Metcalf. He's probably going
to be angry and wanted to show off and want
it out. As far as that goes, You've still got
some other talented wide receivers there. We'll see what happens
(08:01):
now that Najie Harris has gone. What they're gonna do
on the ground. Yes, they've been a little vanilla. Maybe
Aaron Rodgers is able to come in there and do that,
or maybe they will just kind of let him do
his thing and not really get too far in the way.
I just think that, and in terms of mutual respect,
I just think it's the longevity of both and I
(08:21):
don't know anybody that doesn't respect Mike Tomlin and the
way that he's kind of I mean, he's been the
adult in the room. He's been the father figure for
so many guys that have come through that franchise. He's
just the kind of guy that, like you see him, like,
I'd like my son to play for him if I
had that opportunity at that point in time. So I
look at it there and it's just the one thing
you do have to have is Aaron Rodgers respect, not
(08:44):
because that's something you should shoot for, but because you
shouldn't even consider taking Aaron Rodgers if he doesn't respect you.
We've seen what that looks like in the past. So
him going to a veteran coach that's won a title before,
just like he's won one, but at times has been
dogged out because of playoff exits and things like that.
I think there's a lot of commonality between their careers
(09:07):
in a lot of ways where they haven't necessarily achieved
that championship as often as anyone expected either one of
them to throughout their tenure. And so I could I
could see that making sense the Giants to me, if
he goes to the Giants. You want to talk about
something's not gonna matter. Yeah, we did that earlier. But
that's not gonna matter at all. Maybe the Steelers doesn't either.
(09:30):
The Steelers. Actually, that makes that interesting to me. Him
going to the Giants is just like, man, just go away,
go do the podcast thing. I don't know, Go sit
next to aj Hawk on TV five days a week,
go do that. Don't Why would you go play for
the Giants into when he's twenty five?
Speaker 4 (09:48):
So you said it makes it interesting to you.
Speaker 6 (09:50):
I mean.
Speaker 3 (09:52):
Interesting is a relative term, but you said it does
make it interesting to you, though, to play for this.
Speaker 6 (09:57):
Interesting in terms of I would be curious to see
what it hapened, what happens there, I'd be curious. I
would be more intrigue to watch them play with Aaron
Rodgers at quarterback the Giants. I don't think that's gonna
matter because I tuned out of Aaron Rodgers with the
Jets awfully quickly. The Steelers, I would at least want
to see what that look like for a month. It
would make that would be much more interesting to me,
(10:19):
for example, than watching Russell Wilson last year.
Speaker 3 (10:23):
Yeah, and I'll say this too, The one thing I
will say, and I'd be curious about, and actually I'll
throw this question or commentary to you is one thing.
You criticized Mike Tomlin for whatever, But there are a
lot of guys with big egos that get there and
have fallen in line. You know, Antonio Brown basically became
a train wreck the second he left Pittsburgh. You go
(10:45):
on and on down the list, whatever. What do you think, like, like,
do you think Aaron Rodgers would fall like put aside,
how talented.
Speaker 4 (10:53):
Is he at forty one? How much does he have
left in the tank?
Speaker 3 (10:56):
Like it was very clear that he did not have
respect for Robert Sala and staff, was doing what he wanted.
And I'm not sitting here saying that he won't still
do McAfee, that he won't still take weird shots at
media members or whatever. But do you think he would
kind of fall in line and basically be like, yeah,
I'm not running this ship the way that maybe I
tried to or even was successful in doing with the
(11:17):
New York Jets over the last couple of years.
Speaker 6 (11:19):
Yeah, I mean, that's a good question. I do think
that it's more likely he would go there and just
kind of be a little quieter just because well, I mean,
we've seen the Jets experience. But if you go to Pittsburgh,
generally you're right. Like the thing about Antonio Brown where
you talked about as soon as he left there he
wild out. What you don't know is how many things
(11:42):
you never found out about I know that were happening
in Pittsburgh. I guarantee I can tell you this with
absolute certainty as a matter of fact, because I have
experienced talking to former Steelers. That's a thing like he
was always very capable of the stuff that we saw
after Pittsburgh while he was in Pittsburgh. But while he
was in Pittsburgh, a lot of that stuff was kept
(12:03):
in check just because of the way things were handled there.
So even if Aaron Rodgers came there and was a
bit of a problem, I think some of that stuff
you would never hear about just because of the way
that they run that ship around there, or at least
the way that they used to run that ship around there.
My question would be, this, is there a team that
we're not thinking of that is in the mix, or
(12:23):
is there a team? Is there anybody else I know
we're talking about the Steelers and the Giants. But are
the Vikings completely out of this thing? Are there a
couple of other teams that are sitting back that Aaron
Rodgers is talking to that we don't know about as
of yet, and we're all going to be shocked over
the next three days when it's not one of the
two teams we've spent the brun of this segment talking about.
Speaker 4 (12:44):
I don't think so.
Speaker 6 (12:47):
Now, Pittsburgh's my assumption. I'm just curious if we're overlooking
something here.
Speaker 3 (12:52):
Well, I mean, pretty much everywhere else is set that
needed a quarterback except for and that's why.
Speaker 4 (12:58):
Yeah, except for Minnesota.
Speaker 3 (12:59):
Yeah, we're assuming that Titans and Brown's probably addressed this.
Speaker 4 (13:05):
Through the draft. Maybe not the Browns, but I don't know.
Speaker 6 (13:09):
I just because of what the Titans did not do,
I assume they're gonna take cam Ward now.
Speaker 3 (13:14):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, I don't think there's a team and
so I'll be real.
Speaker 4 (13:19):
Actually, Jamart, I was thinking about you.
Speaker 3 (13:20):
Yesterday with the Vikings because I remember when Jordan Love
signed that huge extension, but then also when he struggled
you and I on our Saturday show. We had this
conversation about how it was this really tough spot that
the Packers were in, you know, because they drafted him
and they assumed probably by year two, Jordan Love's gonna
be the starter, and then by the time it's time
(13:41):
to sign that long term contract, you're gonna have like
a really good idea of if he's the guy or not.
Speaker 4 (13:48):
And then what happens is, of course, Aaron Rodgers.
Speaker 3 (13:50):
Wins back to back MVPs, he comes back for a
third year, and then by the time Jordan Love actually
gets to start, you kind of got to pull the trigger.
He's really good, but you kind of I got to
pull the trigger on a really small sample size. So
I bring it up because I look at the Vikings
and it's just like, unless they don't think JJ McCarthy
can physically do the job, I think it's year two
(14:12):
and I just think you got to go to him
because you've got to know if he's the guy or not,
especially with all of those guys in that building pretty
much in their prime.
Speaker 4 (14:21):
So maybe I'm dead wrong.
Speaker 3 (14:23):
And I will say it does seem as though a
lot of people in the media don't seem to be
ruling out the Minnesota Vikings. But I just bring that
up because I just feel like, if you're the Vikings,
you know, and then, by the way, what happens if,
in stunning fashion, Aaron Rodgers is actually good, then it's like,
are you gonna you know? So I just feel like
at some point you gotta go to McCarthy. Maybe I'm wrong,
(14:45):
Like I said, there's a lot of media members that
continue to bring that up. But I just if you're
the Vikings, I know, by the way you moved off
Sam Darnold, who did get you the playoffs to get
your thirteen fourteen regular season wins, I think it's JJ
McCarthy time.
Speaker 4 (14:57):
I don't see that with the Vikings.
Speaker 6 (14:59):
So I think you're pointing right. I think that's exactly
what they should do. Now what they will do, we'll see.
But I agree with one. I think you sit down.
If you are the Vikings and you say this, you say,
can we win a Super Bowl if we bring in
that guy? And if the answer is not yes, then
(15:19):
you go with JJ McCarthy. Now, you don't bring in
you don't need a patchwork for a couple of years, unless,
like you said, the injury is such, or he's not
going to be physically ready, or you're concerned about that
side of it, But I don't think that you want
to bring in somebody else to shorten your clock on
that rookie contract. You want to go ahead and find
(15:40):
out what JJ, what JJ McCarthy can do, and then
potentially benefit from that prior to having to pay him,
because the small sample sized argument with Jordan Love is
exactly what you want to avoid. If you're any team
with a quarterback, you don't want to find out, man,
this guy's pretty good. Want to keep him around, but
(16:01):
you don't have any time, and then your cap space
is shot and you don't have you end up losing
weapons before you ever get to use them. So like,
if you put JJ McCarthy out there now, of course
you've already paid justin Jefferson, and you're going to have
some more contracts coming up eventually, Addison's gonna want to
get paid, and you know all these things are going
(16:21):
to happen, So go ahead and get the get McCarthy
out there, unless you just don't think he can play
at all, at which point you've really messed up already.
But unless you just know for sure that Aaron Rodgers
can win you a Super Bowl in twenty twenty five,
which I don't think is possible, Like I don't think
it's possible to know that for sure, or to even
feel remotely confident about it. Then I think you should
(16:45):
go with McCarthy. Now, whether they do that or not,
I will say a lot of times we find out
that there are a lot of people that have jobs
that make decisions that kind of reflect that they probably
shouldn't have those jobs.
Speaker 4 (16:59):
Yeah, the Vikings.
Speaker 6 (17:00):
Don't generally make like horrendous decisions, but sometimes the thing
that seems obvious is the thing they don't do. But
I think you're one hundred percent right. We'll just have
to see how it plays out. My gut tells me
he will be a stealer.
Speaker 4 (17:15):
I'll tell you what.
Speaker 3 (17:16):
I actually have one more Aaron Rodgers question and will
save it because I think it leads to an interesting
conversation about him, but also Russell Wilson as well, who
does not have a home yet, So we will do that. Next,
discuss the quarterback carousel, all of the craziness there.
Speaker 4 (17:33):

For the break, we were talking the riddle that is
(19:26):
an enigma wrapped in another riddle of Aaron Rodgers. Feels
like it's down to the giants and giants and stealers.
Russell Wilson, of course, was with the Steelers last year.
We'll get to Russell Wilson in a second jamr You
know you asked if there was another team. Let me
(19:46):
ask you this, and I know there's no way to
answer it, but I'll ask you anyway. Is there any
possibility because you mentioned it, like the Giants. Come on,
we're really talking. Would it makes sense for Aaron Rodgers
to just not have a team, not whatever, and then
just wait for an injury that is inevitably gonna happen.
Speaker 4 (20:07):
I'm not saying it will, and I'm not saying.
Speaker 3 (20:08):
There's any way to know if he would, But to me,
I almost feel like, like, listen, we don't want to
talk about injuries, but it's an inevitability, and it's like
someone's gonna get hurt, somebody's gonna need a quarterback or
just whatever. You know, it could be somebody just not
good enough to do the job. I mean, Bryce Young
(20:29):
is the number one overall pick, got bench last year. Now,
he obviously came back and played better, but I'm just
using him as an example. Do you think that's an option?
And if you do or don't, do you think it
should be if you're Aaron Rodgers.
Speaker 6 (20:40):
I mean, I think that would be a really savvy
way to play it. I would I'd rather sit and
have you know, an opportunity, I mean, maybe even with
a contender where I would certainly potentially be coveted and
not the kind of player that you would necessarily expect
to be there for you mid season, to come in
and be able to fill a like that. The only
(21:02):
thing is just you not being on a roster. Would
that worry you at all? I don't know if the
other choices. I'm going to go play for the Giants
and win five games, Max, and that might even be
pushing it, but just most likely not being good, most
likely not being particularly interesting after a certain time, and
just kind of wallowing away into obscurity there pretty quickly.
(21:26):
Would you rather do that or would you rather potentially
have something happen unfortunately to somebody else that you would
be able to step in and potentially patch a hole
for a contending team. I do think it should be
in his mind. I think that's a really good thought.
I hadn't really considered it before, because we know for
a fact there will be multiple quarterbacks that will undoubtedly,
(21:49):
unfortunately get hurt during the course of the season, somebody,
probably fairly severely, because it just tends to happen that way.
And you think about the quarterback that aren't gonna have jobs.
I mean, Aaron Rodgers at that point in time would
become de facto for any team that fell into that
spot and then he'd be able to make a decision
(22:11):
or whatever at that point. So I don't know that
that's in his thinking. I think that's a really good idea.
If the Steelers are open, if the Stewers want him
and that can be worked out, I think that's a
good that's a decent enough situation for him to go to.
If it's the Giants or I'll wait and see how
(22:32):
things play out during the course of the season. I'm
probably gonna do that.
Speaker 3 (22:35):
Very interesting stuff. Russell Wilson met with the Cleveland Browns
earlier in the week. Russell Wilson also appears to be
an option for the New York Football Giants. Multiple part question,
I guess what do you think? The one thing I
can't figure out? So the Giants are very clearly in
the market for a veteran quarterback. Do you think that
(22:58):
means that they're I think of Do you think that
means that if Shador Sanders were to fall to them
that they would pass, or do you think it means
that they think Cleveland's going to take a QB at
number two? Do you think that they're afraid that they'll
be if they don't at least take a veteran. If
both the quarterbacks go one and two, even if we
like one of them, they might not be available. I
(23:19):
just find the New York Giants just a confused. I mean,
they're not good, we know that, but I'm also confused,
to say the least by their behavior this offseason.
Speaker 6 (23:29):
Listen, I don't think the offseason is going far enough. Yeah,
I am still just how did you win that game
late in the year with Drew Lockett quarterback? Like? How
did that happen? They had the inside track to not
(23:49):
be in this situation, and there was nothing that should
have put them into the position to do what they
ended up doing there in that game and knocking themselves
out of that spot. And now they put themselves in
the position where you can ask a question like that,
and we have to address it that way, because yeah,
there's a real good possibility for the Giants that those
(24:10):
two quarterbacks aren't there for them by the time that
they're picking, unless they made some other kind of move
and had to give up other assets to do it.
I don't know. And the problem there is, you get
in you get Aaron at trouble, whether it's a year
from now or two years from now, you would think,
max two years, I think this coming years of last year,
(24:31):
Aaron Rodgers will play regardless of where he is, but
you're probably still going to be bad. So maybe you
have that opportunity again in the future, but you've basically
just with that one victory, you put yourself in a
spot where you basically just wrecked your next year. Maybe
those quarterbacks are not going to end up being good,
(24:53):
and as such, you don't end up tied to one
of them for four years or whatever like that, or
however long it might be before you figure it out.
But I don't think you're in a position where you
can afford to to be there if you're the Giants.
So that's a that's it stinks for Giants fans that
you have to ask that question, but it's exactly the
(25:14):
right question to ask. But if I'm the Giants, I
don't think Aaron Rodgers is my answer. So I don't
know what they've done, but they've put themselves in a
really bad spot.
Speaker 3 (25:25):
One more pseudo Giants related question, Russell Wilson, is that's
where it started? Is I think he met with them,
so you could take this wherever you want. Is you know,
does he have a landing spot, and like, do you
think he's like in like a year from now, is
(25:49):
Russell Wilson in the NFL? Because listen, you watched them
more closely with the Broncos than I did, but two
different coaches, you could say Hackett was a mess whatever.
Sean Payton didn't want him, Mike Mike Tomlin kind of
pushed all the chips in the middle on him and
is now immediately moving off of him. And I just
feel like, and you know, this is kind of a
(26:10):
Rogers conversation as well, Russell Wilson cannot be your backup
like too famous, too many, you know, if whoever struggles,
and I just don't think he's built to be a backup.
And I just wonder, like, Okay, we can have the
conversation about Aaron Rodgers because he's forty one, forty two
years old, But Russell Wilson is a guy that right now,
(26:32):
as we as we are speaking, just turned thirty six,
was playing at a relatively high level as recently as
like two to three years ago. And I just feel
like a year from now, I just I don't think
that guy is in the league.
Speaker 4 (26:45):
Just big picture what do you think of the status
of Russell.
Speaker 6 (26:47):
Willis Yeah, I think you're probably right, And I mean,
he has aspirations past playing, and obviously he doesn't need money,
but he wants to be an owner, he wants to
be a mogul, he wants all of these things. So
it might be time to kind of move towards that
there's not much left for him in the NFL. I
think he still wants to. I think he still has
a little bit of a hunger to play. But I mean, honestly,
(27:11):
the situation that he just left is likely to be
the best one that he's gonna have, and that might
be honestly, like if he were to just exit now,
I think he ends on a higher note than if
he continues to play. And he's going to continue to
play somewhere, But I don't think it's going to go
as well. I just don't. I don't think he's gonna
magically turn back the clock any further. I think you
(27:32):
got about as much out of Russell Wilson as you
can expect to get last year in Pittsburgh. This is
kind of fascinating just thinking about it. Over the last
couple of minutes, the giant situation. Whether it's Russell Wilson,
whether it's Aaron Rodgers, whether it's one of the draft
picks this coming year. I think it's I think it
(27:52):
is fair to say that Daniel Jones was better than
every option they have.
Speaker 4 (27:56):
Interesting you probably I hadn't thought about it, but it just.
Speaker 6 (28:00):
Hit me and I spent when we had our discussion
about the least impactful free agent signings, Daniel Jones to
the Colts was the first one that I mentioned, which
which tells you a lot in its own right, but
you really think about it, Daniel Jones is better at
this point than pretty much anybody that could have his
job at least this coming year. And it's this coming
(28:21):
year it's gonna determine Brian dables future. I think I
think that, you know, even if you end up with
one of the two quarterbacks, whether it's cam Ward or
Shoode or Sanders, if that's if that somehow falls into
your lap one way or the other, and you take
one of those guys there, unless you win big, I
don't think you're gonna be there too long for that rebuild.
Like I don't think you're gonna be there for that
(28:42):
rookie contract. So maybe you didn't have the ability to
keep Daniel Jones around, but I think you were better
with him. Then you're gonna be with any of the
options this coming season, which is kind of unbelievable. The Giants,
just the way that they paid him a couple of
years ago, when we all knew that was a mistake,
and now you're in a spot where, well, he'd be
(29:04):
better than what you've got, but now he's a backup
in Andy. That's kind of stunning.
Speaker 3 (29:08):
Yeah, we you and I discussed this the other day
on our Saturday show, but like you look at the
Giants and basically we talked about a secment. No, I
don't understand the logic because when you go, when you
go veteran versus young guy, like at least the young
guy you can always sell, hey we're a year away.
(29:30):
It's like you're picking at the bottom of the veterans
scrap heap at this point. And I just none of
these guys moved the needle.
Speaker 6 (29:38):
You know.
Speaker 3 (29:39):
Daniel Jones feels like you moved off of him because
you had to. But I'm with you, I don't know
that he's that he's significantly better or worse. But I
don't think he's good. But I don't think he's uh uh,
you know, any any worse than what Aaron Rodgers and
or Russell Wilson could be next year. This is the
(29:59):
Jason Smith Show with Mike Carmen. Jason Smith, Mike Harmon
are out. But you know who never takes the night off? Well,
I guess Arnie Spanier hasn't given me a night off
in a while, but Steve Desager does.
Speaker 7 (30:09):
Arnie still claim that he runs your schedule. It's not
not mine, all everybody's schedule. He believes he is whatever's
higher than a program director at a network. He believes
he has that.
Speaker 4 (30:19):
Position, okay, senior program Yeah, speaking of.
Speaker 8 (30:25):
Senior, he is, he is one. So we let him
enjoy and still think he has that kind of power here.
Speaker 4 (30:30):
You know, one day he's just going to walk into
the woods in Vermont and never come back.
Speaker 8 (30:33):
I worry about that guy, But well, a lot of
woods to be had there, yes, or maybe they'll discover well,
I was gonna say they'll discover him when nobody shoveled
the driveway. But even he doesn't shovel the driveway, his
wife does. Okay, let's update some late night college basketball
because in Vegas, Colorado State is whipping Utah State early
second half of their conference semifinal fifty six to thirty two.
(30:57):
The winner gets Boise State in the final tomorrow. Boise
he beat first place New Mexico seventy two to sixty
nine final seconds of the WAX semifinal. Outside Vegas, Grand
Canyon leads by nine against Cal Baptist. Grand Canyon ready
to go up against first place Utah Valley tomorrow and
currently about a minute to go to seed. UC Irvine
(31:18):
is winning its semifinal by about twenty late against Cal Poly,
so it'll be UCI against UC San Diego, which went
eighteen and two in the Big West this year they
usually won their semi and by the way, Akron went
seventeen and one in the MAC, They've made their conference
final tomorrow with a semi win tonight. As for the
(31:39):
Fox TV coverage of the Big East Tournament, tonight's semifinal
wins for one seed Saint John's which beat Parquette, and Creighton,
which eliminated Yukon seventy one sixty two. In the ACC tournament,
semis Duke, ranked number one, led rival North Carolina fifty
two to twenty eight. Early second half nearly blew that,
but won seventy four to seventy one with the injured
(32:00):
Cooper Flag in his sprained ankle. You see, with four
seconds left, Carolina had the tying free throw waved off
due to a lane violation. To seed Louisville will be
Duke's opponent tomorrow. In the ACC Final. Louisville eliminated Clemson
seventy six seventy three Big Twelve Tournament semis to one
seed Houston, which ripped BYU seventy four fifty four, and
(32:22):
to Arizona. So congrats to the Wildcats, who took care
of Texas Tech tonight eighty six to eighty in the
Big Ten quarterfinals wins for the top three seeds Michigan State, Maryland,
and Michigan, and for Wisconsin, which eliminated UCLA easily. Sec
quarterfinals wins for the top four seats Auburn, Florida, Alabama,
(32:43):
and Tennessee, and the one seed in the American Conference,
Memphis survived a quarterfinal eighty three to eighty over which
to a state Fran McCaffrey did not survive this season.
Iowa has fired its longtime head coach after fifteen years.
His team went seven to thirteen in conference this season
ten and last year. Selection Sunday is this Sunday to
fill out the NCAAA tournament field. In the NBA, Denver
(33:06):
with a late eight OHO run, avoided the upset, beating
the Lakers in Colorado one thirty one, one twenty six.
The Lakers were missing four injured starters, including Luka Doncic
and Lebron James, who was first row in Sacramento tonight
watching his son win the state high school title. Lakers
have lost four straight. Sacramento has lost four straight. They
(33:26):
lost at Phoenix, its six straight losses for Memphis after
dropping a home game against Boston, and eight straight losses
for Utah. They lost a home game against Toronto. Houston
won its fifth straight. Minnesota won its seventh game in
a row. Cleveland won its sixteenth straight game, a win
at Memphis one thirty three to one twenty four. Ja
Morant forty four points by the way. Orlando's Paula ben
(33:49):
Carroll scored forty three in the loss at Minnesota. The
Seattle Seahawks are signing wide receiver Cooper Cup from the Rams.
Dallas agreed to sign defensive end Dante Fowler. Miami is
signing running back Alexander Madison, and the Chargers get guard
Mackay Beckton, who was with Philadelphia. NHL Edmonton in overtime
beat the Islanders. Texas Rangers pitcher John Gray has a
(34:10):
broken right wrist. Austin Reiley of the Braves is day
to day after being hit by a pitch on his hand.
Reds catcher Tyler Stevenson will miss the start of the
season with a strained oblique. The Chicago Cubs have lost
their exhibition in Japan. Tonight, got shut out by the
han Chin Tigers three nothing. The Cub's offense went three
for twenty nine. Dodgers have an exhibition overseas that starts
(34:32):
up in a few hours. Juan Soto with a home
run as the Mets tied the Cardinals in Florida three
to three. And there's something called Spring Breakout where they're
highlighting minor league prospects this week at spring trainings. One
such prospect, a pitcher for Seattle, left hander through ninety
two miles an hour, got it out and proceeded to
(34:54):
against the next batter throw right handed and through ninety
five miles an hour on the very next pitch with
a different arm, back to back pitches.
Speaker 3 (35:05):
I actually played in Little League in early years with
a kid who was ambidextrous like that. It was the
free I mean literally in the middle of an inning, yeah,
switch a gloved.
Speaker 4 (35:14):
And he was a beast too.
Speaker 3 (35:16):
I mean he was one of those kids that had
like a beard at thirteen, and so I imagine dude
just throwing you know at the time, probably upper eighties
lefty and then just hey, call a time out. Coach
brings out another glove. He is throwing ninety two at
your chin, righty. It's like, oh my god.
Speaker 4 (35:32):
He was a monster.
Speaker 8 (35:33):
This was something to see.
Speaker 3 (35:35):
I think he kind of stopped growing at thirteen. I
don't know, he didn't make the bigs. It wasn't It
wasn't this guy, let me tell you that much. Fox

Plank following us. Love Chris Plank. I think the Oklahoma
softball game got canceled today. I think I saw Chris
(37:02):
Blank say something about that, So he is following us
here in just a few moments Saturday, So we taught
we actually led the show. Friday's one of my favorite
days on the calendar as far as sports are concerned.
But Saturday Conference championships, you know, And what's kind of
interesting is they've kind of played to form ACC one
versus two, Duke Louisville, Big East one versus two Creighton
(37:26):
and Saint John's who else Big twelve one versus three
Houston Arizona out of all the stuff going on, and
by the way, we have semi finals in the SEC.
By the way, top four seeds in the SEC Big
ten very much the same. What are you looking forward
to most on Saturday from the college basketball perspective?
Speaker 6 (37:43):
I do think it's the SEC. Honestly. Just the fact
that you had all chalk means you get great semis.
There's likely to be some other good ones tomorrow, certainly,
and there's going to be a cornucopia of stuff to
be able to watch that we'll be able to react
to in our regular time slot. But I do think
my attention will most be focused on the SEC semis.
(38:04):
My wife, being a Tennessee fans, probably not going to
not gonna harm my ability to be able to watch
those two games. I think those are gonna be easy ones.
I don't know exactly past that what I would put next,
But I mean, you just you have a lot of
heavy hitters still in this thing, and you have just
the makings of a lot of dogfight kind of games
(38:26):
here and then you know, we'll get to Sunday. But yeah,
I think for me, top of the list I do
think is those two sec games.
Speaker 3 (38:33):
Yeah, I think a couple things would be interesting. You know,
one Duke how today bounce back. Louisville is much more game.
I think they'll be much more ready for Duke than
Carolina was. If you missed it, By the way, we
talked about it, it's on the podcast. Carolina they were
down as much as twenty four, they cut the lead
to one. There's a free throw lane violation that cost
(38:55):
them a chance to tie it late. So again we
have all the audio. Make sure to check it out. Yeah,
I think Duke bounce back is interesting. You know, I'll
say this if you're looking at that bubble picture. Colorado
State is up twenty five in the second half twenty
four now, with twelve minutes to go in the Mountain
West semi final, Colorado State would face assuming the advance,
(39:16):
Boise State both of those teams appear to be on
the bubble. One would obviously get an automatic bid. I
don't know if the other would do quite enough. But yeah,
I think I think we got what we got Another
fun day of basketball coming, by the way, I do
see that Joe Lonardi has updated his bracket. Actually, it's
very interesting that I mentioned what I just did. Boise
(39:37):
State now in the field after beating number one seed
New Mexico earlier in the night in North Carolina. Now
the last team in Texas which lost to Tennessee today,
first team out. So you know, you don't have to
be great at math. But if you're not playing right
now and you're probably on the outside, like a Texas's
Indiana right now is among the first four out, you know,
(40:01):
a lot of sweat until selection Sunday. J Marts, So
busy day tomorrow, and these brackets are constantly moving. It's
a fun time of year, and so it was fun
day of basketball with another fun one coming on Saturday.
Speaker 6 (40:14):
Yeah. Maybe maybe Aaron Rodgers will have a home by
the time we're on tonight.
Speaker 4 (40:17):
Yeah, it'd be interesting.
Speaker 6 (40:19):
Some big things have happened before our time, so.
Speaker 4 (40:22):
Yeah, that's true.
Speaker 3 (40:24):
I'm sure you saw the video of the pictures of
him with a pensive look on his face on the
Malibu beach earlier in the week. I think I read
somewhere that he claimed that part of his lack of
communication was he doesn't.
Speaker 4 (40:38):
Have cell service in Malibu.
Speaker 3 (40:39):
Now, I will tell you it's a little dicey up there,
but I think he probably is.
Speaker 6 (40:45):
Listen man again, He's not good enough anymore to get
away with some of the Aaron Rodgers stuff. That's the thing,
like him holding teams hostage and not having a decision
made and feeling like he's that that right now, He's
just not good enough to to do that anymore. I
want to see him make a decision and then get
into camp.
Speaker 4 (41:03):
I'll tell you what. You and I will be back
on air eleven.
Speaker 3 (41:06):
Pm Eastern Saturday night, similar to this shift, and maybe
we'll have a decision from Rogers, maybe not, but we
gotta get out of here. Want to thank the crew,
Alex Teyscher killing it on the board, producer Ian for
Steve the Seger My partner Jason Martin, I'm Ayrion Taurus.
