So here we are. The second half is underway. Let
us hear from the first half. Frostburg. Have all the
Clayton highlights ready from the first half. Let's just bang,

(01:08):
bang bang, all the Clayton hoops everything he did, Ill
had it ready, go play right now? All a right,
you guys ready, Yeah, I'm ready, go I hit it,
hit it. We just played it. Oh no, no, no, you
gotta play the highlights, ty tysch You have some really
good music under it, like some really good inspirational music.
All the waller Clayton highlights. Let's hear them, all all
the point, all the points. Get them.

Speaker 2 (01:30):
It is almost nostalgic for Clayton highlights. Five assists, a
couple of rebounds, and now a block.

Speaker 1 (01:36):
Shot in the second half. But yeah, cloak of invisibility.
This National Championship game that has just started the second half,
thankfully somehow is close. Houston Leeds at thirty four to twelve. Okay,
we're done with Oh sorry, my god. Hey, first of all,
congratulations on working on your first national championship. Real good

(01:59):
to see in probably about seven years. Six This is
six years since you worked either the college basketball or
college football national Championship night. Why, ty Shirt, why have
you been out those days? Why?

Speaker 3 (02:11):
In all fairness, yeah, I'm just above it.

Speaker 1 (02:15):
I'm above the championship.

Speaker 2 (02:17):
I was gonna say, I'm hosting a big party and
to get together, I got a cover, I spin some records,
and then we've got a door door fee, And what.

Speaker 1 (02:28):
If we found out Ty Shirt's like this huge, like
you don't even know about it. But he's this huge
college basketball in college football fan, won't tell anybody, always
has a party at his house and instead of not
liking sports, which is his thing, Like what if that
was what it was and all of a sudden we
didn't know that? Well, I mean, we've had plenty of
people lean into brands and preach things they don't really believe,

(02:48):
spout some hot take nonsense. I mean, I don't know.

Speaker 2 (02:51):
I'm just you know, theorizing. I have a couple of
pictures in my head, but I mean that.

Speaker 1 (02:55):
Might be tie shirt.

Speaker 2 (02:56):
Well, he's just playing the role of a just happy
to be here. I don't know anything about sports. He's
a rope and do open all of us.

Speaker 1 (03:04):
I can't tell you how many people would run, would
you know, would engineer the show the last six years,
different person who would come in and they would be
why is it white? Is a sheet? Like? Okay? So
anything special to take? Yeah, it's a big night, don'
worry about it? Do they't worry about all right? All right,
all right, okay about it? But I like the way
you do it. It's never a down play. It's like, hey,
we do our thing. We'll get some sound. Maybe we

(03:25):
get a guess. No Alex Caravan this year. No, not Threekends.
No Alex Caravan. That's over Yukon long extinguished here. But yeah,
you don't say hey, just you know, come in and
do your thing. It's like no big night, big night
and let's go. Uh. But yes, Walter Clayton the best
player in the country over the past three weeks. And

(03:48):
I think if Danny Hurley had his way, he would
give him the NBA MVP as well. Zero points for him.
And we are now seventeen thirty seven left to go
in the second half and still Florida is within six.
It's not a great game. It's a game we thought
we were gonna see the way Houston plays defensively, and
we'll get to Houston in a second, because there's something

(04:10):
to really admire about them. But this is a game.
I can't believe it's this close if you didn't put
the score on the board right and just put like
like it was like watching NFL games in the eighties
where all of a sudden you were like, oh, I
think it's thirty one twenty seven, Oh, there's only a
minute left, Like before they would put up the time.
Oh a minute left, Oh, a minute left. I don't
know what tow much time was left. If this is
a game from the eighties that didn't have a score,

(04:31):
but it up. But I would say watch the first
half and say, what do you think the score is.
I would say Houston's up by eighteen twenty because Houston
was just They've just done They've done everything they wanted
to do. Florida with nine turnovers, their biggest player isn't scoring,
and still it's a six point game. It's a six
point game, and I know that everybody feels good about Florida.

(04:51):
We saw the halftime betting for the Gators. Oh, it
can't happen. Clayton's not gonna have this kind of second half.
He's gonna break out of it. I get that in theory,
but Houston has just been incredibly dominant defensively, and that
doesn't just change. It's not like Clayton's been open and
he's one for twelve and you know in the second
half he's gonna heat up. He's only taken four shots.

(05:12):
He's not even getting to shoot the basketball. I don't
think that's suddenly going to change in the second half.
So I'll stick with Houston because you know, everybody, all
Houston fans hate me after this weekend. Wow, they all
hate me, especially on social media. But I'll stick with
Houston to get this done in the second half.

Speaker 2 (05:27):
Yeah, they came back. You collapse too. He's chronicled it
over the last forty eight hours. Very odd turn of events,
and that large leads to the larger Houston discussion. Neither
coach likable from my vantage points, so I don't really
have any Kelvin Samson's.

Speaker 1 (05:43):
The more likable of the coaches. Boy, That's that says
something right there. That's that says who you're rooting for? Well, well, well, okay,
Kelvin Samson, I bust out the history books. You gotta go.
I guess. I guess Recruiting now in nil with recruiting
violations and calls and lockers and foot it's all.

Speaker 2 (06:02):
It's all fuzzy fuzzy at this point, right, It's all
that was yesterday now it's all fine. But to your point,
I mean, you already have eleven turnovers, so you're not
even getting shots up. And there's one thing wrong with
Houston that keeps them from getting that eighteen point lead.

Speaker 1 (06:20):
Their offense stinks. Yeah, they're shoot one under thirty seven percent.

Speaker 2 (06:23):
Now it's a lot already with five falls here in
the first two and a half minutes of this half.
They just had one on a moving screen, couple of
falls on the ground. But that does not bode well. No, Now,
three pointer by Houston gets it to a ten point lead. Now,
so it's a forty to thirty lead, and looking game

(06:44):
like this, ten point seems like fifty, right because of
the way Houston's playing, in the way they play defense.
And this is the larger point about Houston, right, this
this really takes it down to a level and a
and a breakdown that no matter what kind of fan
you are about it, what a basketball fan you are
or a sports fan you are, you completely get. What

(07:04):
I'm gonna say is that it's really something how hard
Houston plays, how hard they played defensively, how much they
go after the ball on the offensive glass. Right, You've
seen the video the last few days of the ball the.

Speaker 1 (07:17):
Loose ball drills they do at every practice, and guys
are hooting hour and jumping on the floor after loose
ball drills. Like it's really something to watch and it
shouldn't be like this should be Every team should be
able to play this hard, this motivated defensively, this motivated
on the offensive glass. And they just don't, right, they

(07:38):
just don't. And you know watching your teams, go boy,
why are we so lazy on the offensive class? How
do we let so and so sneak in? No one
sneaks in to get rebounds against Houston, right, nobody gets
that loose ball against the Cougars. And this has been
a hallmark of them going on the last ten years.
It would be a real exclamation point in the Kelvin
Samson era to say, Okay, as good as we've been

(07:58):
a couple of final fours, here we are. We win
the national championship. Defenses our hallmark and playing hard. But
playing hard shouldn't be a thing, but it is. I mean,
how many games you watched the term and you say, oh, man,
my team or team X team, they don't play as
hard as Houston does. They don't they don't attack every
second of the basketball game like this is. This could

(08:19):
be the last second I ever play. And it's something
it's something to be admired, clearly, but it's also something
to say, how come more teams don't play this way. Well,
but it goes back to the things we we've honored
through the years. It's it's funny that we bring this
up as they play Florida, cause who is the patron
saint of that in the NBA Joe Kim Noah.

Speaker 2 (08:37):
Right, that guy plays hard and and you knew that
he was gonna leave everything out on the court. And
that's what we see with this Houston squad time and again. Uh,
some innovative plays. Right, you have the big play against Purdue. Uh,
and then you saw the comeback, steady resolve against Duke
down Big but chip away at the stone, right, have
your different milestones, you know, stealing from the lovey Smith old. Hey,

(09:02):
we're gonna play it four games at a time, right,
cut the season into quarters, and then they added that
pesky seventeenth game.

Speaker 1 (09:08):
But the same thing you do on a basketball side.
And for Kelvin Sampson, as much as there's a bunch in.

Speaker 2 (09:14):
The Wikipedia article that I still raised my hand going,
I can't you know out now, praise him all the
guys that got praised.

Speaker 1 (09:20):
In this tournament. Every coach laundry list of issues caliper Patino,
will Wade he's added on an nil conference going. You know,
five years ago, I would have been the only guy
qualified to sit up on this stage. He might as
well have been, you know, doing the double D generation
X chop and everybody else. Wade just actually pulled the

(09:40):
McNee state logo off a jersey and and veiled the
North Carolina state jersey.

Speaker 2 (09:46):
And then you got these guys tonight, the golden thing,
the most unreported thing or underreported thing going. But with
Calvin Sampson, the whole point I'm getting to is there's
no doubt that he can coach right, and he's built.
And it's the word I hate, but it's a five
dollar word. It's like when people were using synergy a lot.
It's that culture thing, Like you want to come here,

(10:06):
you've got a battle. You said five and that five
dollar word five hollar. You said five letter word, and
I'm like, see you, that's a seven letter word. That's
not even six. I can't even count any.

Speaker 1 (10:15):
You you can. You can spell like the mayor of Philadelphia,
Fuzzy mad that five letter word and that five letter
word is culture. It's a fine out five. It's more
than five five dollar word. I go to the sin Man.
I got a five letter word for you. What's that culture?
I went to Northwestern. You know, sometimes the brain works

(10:38):
a little faster, and that's good. It's good. We need
that tonight. We need that. You're right now because this
game sucks. You're trying to find something here. Your numbers
and letters are you're well, I you want to follow
me down that path? Worse than than Walter Clayton, But
I don't know, maybe it's about equal. He's got no
field goal attempts in the last six minutes, and he
just threw the ball into the bench. He is not

(10:59):
attempted a shot in the second. They have absolutely shut
him down, right, and you realize, I mean again, it
shouldn't be a thing that your team plays this hard,
because defense is about effort and following a game plan
and buying in and on the offensive glass and especially
in the offensive class. Like every team should be able
to hit the glass this hard and play this hard Defensely,

(11:22):
I don't mean that they should have the same results,
because clearly, hey, when you have having a great defensive
system is like having a great offensive system. Having the
length you have on players that you want that can
play at the top of the key all of these things,
but just the just the out and out. When that
ball is out there, that ball is mine. When you
have the basketball in front of me, you are not
getting between me and the basket like that. Houston does that,

(11:42):
and it's so again, it's so bleeping inspiring, but it
shouldn't be.

Speaker 2 (11:46):
Well, I would say this right like, let's grab another
sport in for a second. Let's go to the NFL.
For years Seattle and New England, what was the hallmark
of their squads in the secondary? They were going to say,
you're not calling it every time. That's the way Houston
plays defense. We're gonna body you up, We're gonna beat
you up, down low, We're gonna come.

Speaker 1 (12:04):
Up top and beach you. Uh.

Speaker 2 (12:06):
You want to run a screen, well, you're gonna pay
for it. And so it's the are you gonna call
it every time or not? And we've watched this over
the course of the tournament. Which is why the Cooper
flag call got magnified to the level it did, is
that you'd let these guys beat the hell out of
each other the rest of the game. And how you're
calling the over the back, whether you believe it was
a follow or up. But it's just the principle of

(12:28):
the way the tournament as a whole has been called.

Speaker 1 (12:31):
We're letting a lot go and then we're in pivotal
moments and I'll wait all of a sudden, this wait
discounts now. So that's just it.

Speaker 2 (12:38):
But with Houston, what you get is forty minutes of
all right, referee, we're gonna test you, and your players
are gonna pay the price if they're gonna come inside
or try to run off a screen.

Speaker 1 (12:49):
Well, and let me just say this, a big, big
thing breaking right now. Todd Golden has left the floor,
replaced by Rick Patino, who has pulled Walter Clayton from
the game. He is no He sitting next to R. J.
Lewis on the bench right now. So that is what
is happening, right It's can you get Ai to draw
that like that? Get Patino out in the white suit.

(13:11):
He's in a white suit. He's an How you doing it?
I'm here, I'm You're gonna start singing lit until the
song and dance for you. Ten point lead for uson
right now, fifteen minutes left to go in the National Championship.

we keep adding names to that list. I mean, it's
a veritable laundry.

Speaker 4 (14:10):
Yeah, you guys didn't congratulate me yet, Well, what what
would you do? I won the Fox Sports Radio bracket?

Speaker 1 (14:15):
Did you really already? What? Already? You won? Like without
even I was in the bag? Yeah, ago, wow, congratulations.
What does that get you? You don't win, You don't
win anything though, Oh okay, that's good. You and ty
Shirt finished second, right with his Troy and uh grand
Canyon Natagal fourth but you know, fourth, just outside the

(14:38):
metal stand.

Speaker 4 (14:38):
Fourth when you say second thirty second? So wait, how
did you have a clear?

Speaker 1 (14:42):
You had a clinch? Because going into the final four
or going into this game? What's that you had a
clinch going into this game or going into the final four?

Speaker 4 (14:50):
Nobody could beat me going into this game? Wow, who
did you have winning Florida? Okay, well, so it doesn't matter.

Speaker 1 (14:56):
Find your jump shot, Clayton. Well wait, wait, wait, wait
wait your wife is a Florida State alum and you
picked Florida to win the national championship and you still
live at home. What she doesn't What is wrong with
you after all these years?

Speaker 3 (15:13):
No?

Speaker 1 (15:13):
No, no, no no no, wait she doesn't know you
picked Florida. That she she doesn't know yet? Absolutely not no,
But that's what I'm saying that gift card. Though I
had Houston, baby, I had Houston all along. I would
never pick Florida. No, come on, baby, I had Houston Cougars,
Cougar's baby Cougars. You know I love you. You're the

(15:34):
only one for me. I would never take the Gators.

Speaker 2 (15:37):
I don't think you can walk around his house talking
about how much he loves Cougars.

Speaker 1 (15:40):
That would be bad. Coming up next, all we got

(17:06):
Right now, twelve and a half to go in the
second half, it is still a nine point lead for Houston. Again,
this game feels like it should be over. It feels
like Houston should be up by fifty. However, again, when
you have a defensive struggle, the game can still stay close.
At least Walter Clayton Junior has finally hit the scoreboard

(17:28):
for Florida. He had two free throws while we were
paying bills and now it is a six point game
after a three from Florida. So forty five thirty nine,
with about twelve and a half left to go. Now,
one of the things lost in a lot of the
analysis from Saturday, because you know, we had to do

(17:48):
everything we could to extend ourselves to tell us how
great Houston was defensively. All of these teams were within
like a percentage point, like one point three percent in
terms of opponents fueld goal percentage this year. All four
teams in the final four, there were no slouches.

Speaker 2 (18:02):
There were no outliers of wow, they get run up
and down, but you know what, they score fast, so
it overcome. No, they were all good defensively. So what
we're watching here. The over under was sitting at one two.

Speaker 1 (18:14):
Before the game, and and well you got every bit
of that watching this thing. You feel great about that under.
If you have the under right now. Uh, you feel
pretty good about the under right now. I need them
to score forty some lot more appointment. That's never gonna
oh wait a minute, wait a minute, uh twelve oh
six to go Florida with a block, and they take
it the other way and they're going to the free

(18:35):
throw line. So all of a sudden, Houston with that
commanding lead defensively playing so well This is what happens
when you don't hit enough shots. This is what happens.
Why you don't let a team stick around. You gotta
be able to You gotta be able to kill them
dead when you can, and you kiss them stick around,
you shoot thirty six percent. This is what we're doing. Yeah,
I mean look to you know, to kind of just
you know, to be real about this. This is not

(18:56):
a great game. No, you like watching patrol if you no, no, no,
if you like watching defense, and there's a good you know,
one out of every ten people that will say I
like watching defense because I want to be different, because
I'm a reverend. Everybody else likes offense. And I know
college I know college basketball likes offense for one reason.
I know basketball likes offense for one reason. If they

(19:16):
didn't like offense, then all baskets would be worth one
point and not too well. I mean, there's there's something
that don't make that. How do we make the scores higher?
Oh's everything the other point? What about the free throws?
We can make it worth half a point. No, no, no, no,
let's make everything worth two points.

Speaker 2 (19:31):
Can I add a little bit of extra to the
how poorly the Houston offense is played. Florida's turned the
ball over twelve times, the Cougars just three times. They
even take care of not take care of care of
the ball, and it doesn't matter. It's still a four
point game.

Speaker 1 (19:47):
It's not a great game. I might cry harder at
the end of this game then I did the end
of Yukon beating South Carolina to win the National champion
because I absolutely, I'm fine saying this. I absolutely started
crying when Gino took Page Beckers out of the game
and they hug and you see him say I love
you and she probably said blank you man, I can't

(20:09):
wait to get away from you. But I mean, really,
I started my my tears welled up in my eyes.
Why it was just that moment where I said, I
want to watch this, I want to see how this goes,
because you knew they were all coming out of the
game because they were killing South Carolina, and just that moment,
because we've heard so much about Page Beckers and her
journey and getting hurt and Gino Oriema was he ever
going to get back there again to win the championship

(20:29):
And you heard him talk on Dan Patrick about how
he thought that maybe my best coaching days or behind
me and I'm not doing well anymore. Just that moment
of seeing them hug. I'm like, oh, I'm such a goober.
I'm gonna, I'm gonna And I started crying. I'm like, oh,
this is so And it was good because I was
by myself. Nobody else was on a Roman base. I
was good so I could just wipe my eyes, go
back upstairs and talk to Pam until I go, hey,

(20:51):
what's going on? Yeah, what's what's happened? Stump my toe?
I stub my toe? Maybe, you know, look the girl
dad thing coaching as long as I have understanding, and
you know what it was. Honestly, it wasn't so much
about Zoe because you know, even though the end when
I when I stopped coaching her a couple of years ago,
when she got old enough, she got to high school, like,
I still saw her every day. I still had the grave.

(21:11):
But honestly, it's about the moments that I had with
the other kids. And I thought back to our last
time and we played. We won the championship in softball,
and we didn't think we were gonna win. And the
last game I was a wreck because you know, I
had all three of my pitchers ready to go in
this game, and they were all gonna go. It was
all their last games too, And every time I would
come to take one of them out of the game,

(21:32):
like I almost started crying because it's the last TI,
I'm gonna take you out of the game, the last time.
I'm gonna say, great job, the last one, and all
of that started hitting me on it. I'm going I
don't know how I coached this game. There was some
after the game. A couple of parents said to me,
I didn't know if you were okay during the game.
I'm like I wasn't, Like at the end of the
second inning, end of the fourth and when I had
to take Elena out and I had to take Chloe
out and then had put Catherine in for the last time,

(21:52):
of like this is this is difficult? Man? It was
really hard. It would have been easier if both Elena
and Chloe were struggling mightily. Hey, get off, you're out.
You gotta turned to the dads and go, what the
hell you're doing? They got any sleep last night? That
was wrong with you? It's a championship. More coffee, Give
me another beer, Like buttermaker, I'm I'm trying drinking beer.
I was watching the alternate broadcast the the Yukon.

Speaker 2 (22:15):
Alums large shut up for the third quarter and they
uh they roasted each other pretty good repeatedly, so that
was kind of fun. Uh And then since it was
such a burial, I'm done. I didn't even stick around.
I watched the clips at the end. I'm like this,
this is ugly at this point and then like it

(22:35):
got bad.

Speaker 1 (22:36):
But here's the thing. But Daniel, you're looking at at
the replay right and you're looking at the box score
and how did it finish up? Like why were they
still in the game at that point? Like this is
this is just disgraceful, Like do you really hate down
scaley that much? Do you know? The thing? I really
wanted to see what Dawn stand That was the that
was the big drama for me, Like, okay, when he

(22:57):
takes everybody out at the end, when he takes Page
Beckers out, But I'm like, I really want to see
does Dawn Staley just break a chair over somebody's head
because she from the from two minutes into the game,
she was not happy and the entire time I'm going
she's gonna just someone's gonna walk up and go, hey, coach,
do you want And she's gonna all of a sudden,
she's gonna take her clipboard and just what it's gonna

(23:18):
start just breaking stuff. It's gonna walk in like like
the like the Joker and breaking a pool queue, going okay,
all right, now, who wants to walk out of here?

Speaker 2 (23:26):
I mean they had a couple of players early where
I'm sure she would have liked a little bit of
an explanation as to what the call was, and then
she watched it unravel quickly.

Speaker 1 (23:36):
So I mean that that was it. Man. You got
to halftime and you're you're doing the well, how do
they get back into this game? They don't, no, no, no,
no no. I like, when they interviewed her going to
the fourth quarter, how do you get back in the
game one possession at a time, one stop at a time.
And I said, that's such a great coach, big thing
to say, that's not happening, Just say, how do you
just ask, hey, how do you eat an elephant one

(23:58):
bite at a time? Yeah?

Speaker 2 (24:01):
You like that?

Speaker 1 (24:01):
And then and then and then he then in the
first three minutes, it was a twenty five point lead,
You're like, okay, this is it running clock. We gotta
running clock now? This is oh no, it was. It
got ugly. So as soon as it really got bad,
I'm like, I can't.

Speaker 2 (24:12):
I can't even watch, Like I felt bad for Therolina squad.
Like there was no point where it ever looked like
they had they had a pulse to come back.

Speaker 1 (24:20):
Okay, cool or not cool? If like midway through the
fourth quarter to keep people watching, Gino Orima will be
able to put back in some of the alumni that
were at the game.

Speaker 2 (24:31):
Like, I mean, if Breonna Stewart came back in that game,
sure she was being equated to wearing the outfit of
Chris Jerrick and that shimmery top.

Speaker 1 (24:38):
Yeah no, all the all the people who are there. Hey,
you get to come back and be and go in
the game. I'll get to play into the five. But
this is cool. Yeah I'm wearing high heels. Doesn't matter.
I fires Forrgina. It doesn't matter. Oh go go do something.
I'm thirty eight years old. I tore my ACL. I
don't care. That's for Gina. I mean, like it was.
It was an incredible day for college basketball. Yukon winning

(24:58):
and and the way they were able to come back
from as a program that you thought all they had
done for college like, none of what we see in
college basketball now is possible if not for the success
of Yukon. Right, you've seen the stat the men and
the women are responsible for thirty two percent of all
NCAA basketball championship since the turn of the century or
in the last thirty years whatever. It is like none
of what we've seen because they grew cop their dominance

(25:21):
in the thirty years ago, the undefeated team that grew
college basketball like the Yukon Tennessee rivalry, but they were
the rock stars and they are the conduits that brought
college basketball to the era we are in now that
has seen the top of the game explode so much.
But you know, at the same time, like, boy, it's
been ten years, and while they're still a really good program,

(25:41):
it seemed like they're getting eclipsed by other programs. Other
star players are not just going to Yukon, They're going
to different teams, and so Iowa becomes a power now.
South Carolina has been a huge power for the last
six or seven years. No tre Dame is a power
it's spread out across the country. UCLA and USC are
now powers. He'll be a power again if Juju Watkins
comes back and is healthy next year. So you wonder, boy,

(26:04):
could that have been it?

Speaker 4 (26:05):
Right?

Speaker 1 (26:05):
Could that have been it? For Gino? And so I
look at this, you know clearly this is and I
know you think that maybe Yukon is dominant. But I'm
gonna I'm gonna go bold with this. I'm gonna say
that this Yukon win is kind of like tigers last
win at the Masters, Jack Nicholas's win in the eighty
six Masters at eighty when he had not won a
major for so long and squeaked one out. The Warriors

(26:27):
dynasty winning their last one a couple of years after
things had ended for them, because Yukon is going to
get eclipsed by the end and they are getting clipped
by the part. But Paige Beckers is a special player
and they're still recruiting great players there. But to come
in and say, okay, Yukon, Yukon, Yukon, you had Juju
Watkins get hurt and that was a huge thing for
the tournament. That was a huge thing to knock them back.

(26:48):
And so this now I look at it and say, wow,
Yukon got back to the top of the mountain. Are
they really gonna stay there? Are they still that much
of a drawing card where hey, we're gonna get it
because eventually Gino's gonna stop coaching, Eventually he's going to retire,
and eventually these other schools South Carolina is becoming the
you know, the duke of the South and women's college basketball.

(27:08):
So that I look at this and say, hey, this
looked like one more ultimate trip to the top for Yukon,
And now, hey, it's great that they got there because
they were the conduit for so long, but now it's
going to be almost impossible to stay up there. I
think one of the big things that has to happen
is Gino needs to make a definitive statement about how
long he's sticking around. Right, as much as you built

(27:28):
this program and you think you can just hand it off, Well,
we know that doesn't happen one to one, right, So
there were questions being asked even on the ALT broadcast,
is watching with uh was it? Tarrassi and Sue bern like,
they talked about it openly, and they asked Caitlin Clark
about it. She left, She goes, I can go there.
You guys did like you would know better than I do.

(27:51):
But it was something that was swirling around in the eventually,
and I think she had Yukon down with she was
two were finally two or three schools and she still
chose Iowa.

Speaker 2 (27:59):
Yeah, still calls it, you know, the one that got
away because you start thinking about the super.

Speaker 1 (28:03):
Team what too soon had a great cares she had
stepped away for a year. Yeah that's true. Yeah, yeah, okay, okay,
sure another but another one that got away. But Geno's
not everybody's cup of tea.

Speaker 3 (28:19):
No.

Speaker 2 (28:19):
But that's the other part, right, is you know, personalities,
et cetera. I know there was a lot made of
you know, from from the Bryant family that Gigi would
have been a frustraighter on the squad. So they were
being asked about that in the moment, so at a
lot of emotion to it. But for Gino, you got
to answer the questions are you sticking around? Because clearly

(28:40):
the winning ways are there and even all the final fours,
and we kept wondering if you were going to find
that you know, magic end game to it all, and
and the basketball side.

Speaker 1 (28:49):
Clearly, you can still coach. Clearly, they still get up.

Speaker 2 (28:52):
You've got fun around and and find out one of
the greatest two shirts ever worn by a family member.

Speaker 1 (28:59):
How surprised was she when she was named most outstanding Player?
Wait me, oh hey, all right, unbelievable, unbelievable right now,
all right, hey, I did it.

Speaker 2 (29:08):
But my favorite thing from the women's tournament really quick,
uh was, and I'll never unsee it now, is that
at some point someone equated the current state of gino
Oriama to Carl Fredrickson. Wow, okay, so he looks like
old man and Asner from up. Okay, now I can
unsee it. Expecting hid to come up, I think you

(29:28):
have a snipe under your porch. You want me to
get him for you?

Speaker 1 (29:31):
I can. My name is Russell, I'm here cell. Express

a year he gets really real and talks about stuffy hats.
It's Steve Disager with what's trending. I do like your suggestion.

Speaker 3 (30:05):
I would have kept watching the game if former Yukon
players who are actually going to be taking the court
lobo off.

Speaker 1 (30:11):
What the head says, now and fine, maya more.

Speaker 3 (30:16):
Well, we've got a Houston lead of now forty eight
forty seven over Florida and the men's title game in
San Antonio under eight minutes to go. But how often
do we see it, guys, in all the sports where
good pitching, goods speach, good hitting, so to speak. Because Houston,
with its always good defense, over the weekend faced a
duke team that averaged eighty three points a game, top

(30:37):
twenty in college and duke heads sixty seven and lost
against this team. The Florida games eighty five points a game,
bless you, and third in the country in offense, and
yet it was a twelve point lead. It's now Cougar's
forty eight forty seven under eight minutes to go. And
this is with Florida All American Walter Clayton at one

(30:58):
of seven shooting from the floor or four points, seven assists,
three turnovers, in fact, thirteen turnovers for.

Speaker 1 (31:05):
The Gators, and they're only down one. He's made one
more basket than Clayton Roner keep in Mick from the eighties.

Speaker 3 (31:12):
I thought you're gonna say Adam Clayton Junior.

Speaker 1 (31:15):
Also true, but clearly at TJ. Clearly Florida looking for
a baseline to get him going walk away, walk away.

Speaker 3 (31:25):
In other words, he would look at the band member
and say, you two, you can't hit it, JOT and DJ.

Speaker 1 (31:31):
Clearly this is where the Gators have no points.

Speaker 3 (31:35):
By the way, Houston is in its seventh Final four,
has never won the national title?

Speaker 1 (31:40):
Is this the night to the NBA?

Speaker 3 (31:42):
Only two games this evening, Sacramento came back to win
at Detroit one twenty seven, one seventeen, Zach Lavine forty
three points and teammate DeMar DeRozan with thirty seven. Miami
sent Philadelphia to a twelfth straight loss, one seventeen to
one oh five. The end of the season cannot come
quickly enough for the.

Speaker 1 (31:58):
Philadelphia Oh no, no, they would end now. They good?

Speaker 3 (32:02):
Twenty three and fifty six now is the record? Regular
season ends on Sunday?

Speaker 1 (32:06):
Well, just wait they'll get him beedback. They'll get Maximay
did the rest of this week. You just wait, just
trust the process. People.

Speaker 3 (32:13):
In the NHL, a twelve game winning streak ended tonight
as the Saint Louis Blues were beaten at Winnipeg three
to one. Jacksonville exercised its fifty year option on defensive
end Trayvon Walker. The Cubs ended Texas five game winning
streaks seven nothing. Temperature at first pitch, by the way,
thirty four degrees, which meant it was actually colder at

(32:33):
Wrigley tonight for this ball game than it was at
Wrigley for the NHL Winter Classic this season. As for
the five game winning streak of Boston, that's over. Toronto
won at Boston six to two. Mets won their fifth straight,
shutting out Miami to nothing. Could I singa with five
scoreless innings? In fact, the New York Mets have a
team ERI so far of one point seven to two.

Speaker 1 (32:56):
Steve is that the best in baseball.

Speaker 3 (32:58):
Actually in team history, that's their second best through ten games.
Washington beat the Dodgers, Detroit over the Yankees, and among
the late games, Padres lead for nothing over the A's
in Northern California third inning back to you beg.

Speaker 1 (33:12):
You Steve, And just to be clear, so that team
that ended Saint Louis's big win streak? Who was that?
Who won? Who was the big win by? Who wants
actually got to win? To the Jets? Can't stop the Jets?
How good to the Jets? How good to the Jets?

Speaker 3 (33:25):
It's the season ever where a Jets team last fifty?

Speaker 1 (33:28):
It's the off season and so is the off season
when it's great.

Speaker 3 (33:30):
It's great for How many decades does it take for
the New York Jets to get fifty victories? Oh?

Speaker 1 (33:35):
Man, I don't know. Uh wow, how many decades? At
least one full one, at least one. If you're ready

(33:58):
we go big game. Huh it is a one point
game for Houston and Florida. But what about the incredible
record that was set a day ago? Will it ever
be broken. That's coming up next, Jason to Mike. Be

here we go, five and a half minutes left to go.
In the last few minutes, this game has gotten from Hey,

(34:45):
it's close and there's a lot of defense to every
possessions like gold. But teams are starting to execute. Big
shots are being hit up and down the floor. Florida's
bigs look like they're starting to dominate a little bit
down low Houston with the basketball. They lead it fifty six,
fifty five, five and a half left to go, and
it still seems like a game that Houston should be.

(35:06):
If they lose this game, all Kelvin Samson Houston They're
gonna do is say we should have won this game
by this We should have been having our starters off
the floor at this point, and they're all yelling and
honking it up because we're up by twenty or twenty
two over Florida. But yet because they're so difficult to
they're not a team that fills it up. Houston couldn't

(35:26):
run away from Florida. Flora's able to get back in
it little by little, and now it's a three point
game with just under five left. Yeah, I mean they're
offensively challenged, which is why we were kind of looking
at that over under and looking at the projections of
this game, and they were certainly not where we were
going to find big offensive explosions. Houston. Are they going

(35:47):
to set a record if they want?

Speaker 2 (35:48):
If they finished this game off, would it be the
lowest shooting percentage ever for a team ground champion?

Speaker 1 (35:53):
Thirty four percent? Right now, I don't know that. That
Yukon Butler game from uh yeah, what the final score
of that game was like fifty two to forty one.
I don't think that was. I think that was without knowing,
I would say that's the rest.

Speaker 2 (36:07):
Yeah, I might have to go back and look in
the check the tail of the tape on that one,
but certainly a little more back and forth. What's been
interesting is watching the body discipline of the Houston Biggs
down low, because you've had a number of drives and
great passes from Florida, and then they get down amongst
the trees and they're doing they're contorting themselves because they
think they're about to get hammered, so they're throwing up

(36:28):
just wild shots, like all right, rebound, Houston going the
other way.

Speaker 1 (36:32):
N ol Miranda sings, I'm a contortunist, contorts. I'm a contortunist.
So again, it's a one point lead for Houston with
just under five minutes left to go. We'll have more
in this game coming up in a few minutes. Really
coming down to it, Houston's got a host of players
in foul trouble, including l J. Cryer, who's there leading
scorer so far tonight. But we had absolute history yesterday. Yeah,

(36:52):
I thought for sure, Alex Ovechkin, I'm gonna put it
away until Thursday against the Carolina Hurricanes. Thank you for
scoring against the Islanders, so I don't have to watch
my Hurricanes. Just get poster eyed for the end of time.
He scores a goal that makes him the NHL's all
time leading goal scorer with eight ninety five, and I

(37:13):
know that. The great quote that Wayne Gretzky said after
the game was remember talking to his dad after he
broke Gordy Howse record, and he says, be as gracious
as you are tonight breaking his record, as you're going
to be when someone breaks you our record in thirty years.
And I'm sure Gretzky was like, no, it's breaking mine.
Come on, dad, when do you get, oh wow, someone's
breaking my record. I know all records are made to

(37:35):
be broken, right when we think that, But this record,
I don't think in my lifetime we're gonna see it
unless the NHL decides to go, hey, we're fully embracing
fantasy football and games are back to being every game
is six five eighty six like the salad days of
the eighties in the NHL. This record's not going to

(37:58):
be broken. First of all, it's thirty some years to
get to eight ninety four, okay, from Gretzky to Alex Ovechkin.
Ovechkin ain't slowing down. That's a big thing. It's not like, hey,
I'm in eight ninety four. He's gonna call it quits.
He's the third leading goal scorer in the NHL. That
one thousand is out there in headlights for him. It's
extreaming lights of one thousand, and that's really two and

(38:21):
a half more seasons for Alex Ovechkin. Yes, he's thirty nine,
but he's still scoring goals at a really high rate. Again,
he is the third, he's the third number. He's the
third leading goal score in the NHL right now. Not
bad for a guy that broke his leg in November. Yeah,
the next guy behind him is Sidney Crowsby's at six
to twenty two, and Sidney Kross is supposed to be
the way he was, the guy supposed to break this run.

(38:43):
That's right. But but you see, the thing is is
that Gretzky really slowed down once he hit his thirties.
I mean, the talent of Gretzky never I mean again,
you could take every one of his goals away. He
still has more points than anybody who's ever played the
game of hockey. So let's just understand what that's where
we're at with Wayne Gretzky and how he was the
greatest hockey player in NHL history. But but going forward,

(39:04):
it's like, okay, we need thirty years to get to here,
and he's going to be like Emmett Smith with the Cardinals.
Why is that it on the Cardinals just to put
more yards for the next guy that wants gonna break
that record? Like he's going to be over a thousand
goals when it's all said and done. Who is playing
that long? Who's going to score forty four to forty
five a year for over for twenty five years?

Speaker 2 (39:25):
If coddr Bdard doesn't keep getting himself thrown out again.

Speaker 4 (39:28):
He's clearly doubting the talents of one year me Yager,
I'm still active.

Speaker 1 (39:33):
He could be still going. Yeah, he could be played
ten more years.

Speaker 4 (39:36):
He could be seventy years old and still he He's
seven hundred and sixty six goals.

Speaker 1 (39:40):
He only means a couple of more goals to get there.

Speaker 2 (39:43):
He's only fifty three. But like it's funny because you go, oh,
Sid the kid, No, Sid, the kid's thirty seven, So
it's not like he's the He's that much behind Ovechkin
at this point.

Speaker 1 (39:54):
I remember the clamoring for their rookie guards.

Speaker 2 (39:56):
Here's the thing we talked about it Friday night, right,
that would you go and make the bet that you'd
see the goal. Guess what dud get in was about
an hour before puck drop.

Speaker 1 (40:07):
We were what we were doing it last Friday night.
It was around sixteen hundred. You could have got in
for one hundred and fifty dollars if you waited all
the way till you waited till the absolute and so
folks that got up in the three hundred level you
found yourself deals, Hey sucker, how much did you pay?
I don't know.

Speaker 2 (40:26):
There's a whole hotel, Hotel National ad that does that
all the time.

Speaker 1 (40:30):
What did you pay? How much was get in after
he scored?

Speaker 2 (40:33):
I think you could just as people were streaming out,
come on in while they did that thirty minute pause
in the action, Come on in, come on in.

Speaker 1 (40:40):
And still that still just confuses me. We just I
don't I'm not bad at it. But you know we're
still doing stuff on the ice. Come on and come on,
just sit wherever you want to. It's fine. All these
folks streaming out. It's like, can I watch the rest
of day? It's like Coastal Carolina. We're giving away stuff
for you guys to eat. Coming up next? Who are
we crowning? NCAA champion Houston are in a Syracuse in there.

(41:02):
That's next Fox. It's gonna be grand
