Well.

Speaker 4 (00:50):
Here we are.

Speaker 1 (00:54):
Opening night, coming up of the NBA playoffs. Picked up
about it, We got NBC insider Kurt Healing stopping buying
about twenty minutes. We take a look at the playing rounds.
Will anybody watch the Eastern Conference? How good is the
Western con falls balls? We also watched tonight the WNBA

(01:18):
draft and to no one's surprised, the player we thought
was going number one overall in the draft, went number
one overall.

Speaker 4 (01:26):
In the draft.

Speaker 1 (01:27):
We thought it was going to be Paige Beckers out
of Yukon. The Dallas Wings talked to Paige Beckers. Paige
Becker said she was excited to be going there if
she goes there. The Wings said they would be excited
to have her there if they pick her. And then
when it came time to make that selection, of course,
that's what happened.

Speaker 4 (01:47):
The Dallas select.

Speaker 1 (01:54):
So Paige Beckers goes number one overall, Haley Van Liz
goes number eleven to the Chicago Sky And you see
this everywhere tonight, right Suddenly it's a lot of people
my time on I think, WWA, yeah, dude, the w's legit. Man,
Sorry it is Sorry you don't like it, It's legit.
They hit the big time last year. Obviously, Caitlin Clark

(02:15):
is a transformative player that maybe you get once every
couple of generations, and the WNBA now it's a thing
and it became huge and it's something that we cover,
that we talk about. It is part of the regular
sports calendar and regular sports conversation. Not once in a
while it pops in there's a conversation about it. Now

(02:37):
it's become that because it has something that only the
NFL has, and this is why the league is taken
off in the last couple of years. The NFL is
the only league now the WNBA does it that. Every
year you get new superstars organically joining the league. Right,
you have thirty two teams in the NFL. Obviously it's

(02:58):
more than double what they have in the WNBA. But
the point is is that you got thirty two teams
in the NFL, and every year there are five or
six new superstars that are drafted and show up and
become stars right away. Now sometimes it's the very early
picks in the drafts time second round pick, third, but
it doesn't matter. There are stars who come in and
are superstars in the league right away. Right that's the

(03:20):
only league that does it. And that's why the NFL
is so popular. Year after year. You can go anywhere
and be a popular player. You come in as a star,
you play well, we find you right away, you are
a superstar.

Speaker 4 (03:32):
This year.

Speaker 1 (03:33):
You think, well, is it gonna be Ashton Genty could
be that star, and Travis Hunter could be that star.
Maybe it's cam Ward, maybe it's Shador Sanders, maybe but
you are gonna get five or six big star not
just really good players, but five and six big superstars
every single year. And it's amazing. But that's what the
NFL does, and they've done that better than everybody else

(03:54):
because in Major League Baseball they don't have it. Guys
get drafted and they go to the minors for a
long time and you forget about and then it takes
him a long time to come up. In college basketball
used to be that way, but now with Cove getting
to the league as early as you can get there
most of the time, now, how many real superstars show
up a year? Maybe one if you're lucky, if you're
extremely lucky, you get one. But most of the guys are, hey,

(04:17):
year three, when they're twenty two years old, this guy's
become a really really good player. Right. It doesn't happen
that way in the WNBA. Right, doesn't happen in the
NHL that way. The only sport we see that in
is the NFL. And now the WNBA has figured out.
You just look at the left the three year run
we're in the middle of now, where last year was
Caitlyn Clark and Cameron Brink who became a star even

(04:37):
though she barely played. Right, Angel Reese became a superstar.
You know other players that are going to be stars.
Camilla Cardoso is going to be a star. And then
you get to this year where suddenly, okay, here comes
Page Beckers and Hailey van Lyth, who went from someone
who got famous because she was getting torched by Caitlyn
Clark in an NCAA tournament game.

Speaker 4 (04:53):
Too.

Speaker 1 (04:54):
Hey, here she is to lead a team to the
to the elite eight of four times. Right, Hailey van
Lyt became a star. Now what's coming up after her?
Juju Watkins is going to be a superstar. Flow J
Johnson when she comes to the W is gonna be
a big star. They're in a big sweet spot right
now where every year, because it's less teams, two or
three big super big superstars that people are going to

(05:15):
tune in to watch.

Speaker 4 (05:15):
I gotta see this game. I gotta see it.

Speaker 1 (05:17):
This is a huge, huge thing. And the W is
in a sweet spot right now that only the NFL
has because they're the only sport that can take a
player from college come in as a superstar and boom.
You're that way right away. And now maybe there could
be players who come out of know h you don't
know somebody drafted the second round, or you know, foreign
players that got drafted earlier tonight, they may jump in

(05:38):
and be stars right away. You know it could happen
that way. But right now, you know coming in there
are big name players who have big impact that have
won national championships and they're coming in. It's okay, Now
I really gotta see this. I gotta see because now
when the Wings play this team, it's gonna be Wow.
This is Page Becker's en Erriqueo Gunbawally, which love more
on that back court in a minute. Hey, they're playing
Caitlin Clark tight. Oh now wait, the Sky are playing

(06:00):
Liberty and that's gonna be Breonna Stewart. Oh wait, but
tonight and the Aces are playing here and that's gonna
be Asia Wilson. They're playing the Sparks and that's Kelsey
Plumb and Cameron Brick. Like there are stars everywhere in
this league. It is such a sweet spot and this
is why the growth they're having is unprecedented. Only the
NFL does this, and now the WNBA has figured out
how to do it too.

Speaker 3 (06:19):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (06:19):
I think when we look at it. You're at a
point where everybody's waiting to see, all right, what do
you do for an encore? Right, you got on the
radar last year, and you already had a lot of
highly decorated, established players. I mean you mentioned Breonna Stewart,
former guest of the show. I go back watching Dawn
Staley and Shamika Holtz Klaw and all those teams back

(06:42):
in the day. But for those just coming to it,
it's it's a different, different space, and you want to see,
all right, how does this round out? Because you had
a couple of teams that, while they had star power,
still struggled minally. Okay, what's what's the next iteration? Look like?
What's the Indiana versus Chicago? That'll look like? Well, now
you add van Lydth to that. Yeah, how much fun

(07:03):
is Yeah? So we already had Angel Reeves, we already
got Gardo and now he adds these red socks like, yeah,
we're gonna be on all the time.

Speaker 1 (07:10):
We're gonna put that drive up and down that highway,
short drive between them.

Speaker 4 (07:14):
Let's go.

Speaker 1 (07:14):
Although I don't I don't think now this is just me.
I'm not a coach, but I don't think Hailey van
Lyth will be guarding Caitlyn Klok say that you avoid
that or you're really gonna be rotating with help very fast.
But the point being just that we we have been
able to watch the growth and development and the game
gets covered differently. We haven't seen it a ton although

(07:37):
nil and player movement, so you're gonna see more of
it in the women's game.

Speaker 4 (07:42):
We're already seeing a couple of this cycle that decorated
players that said, well, I can go get a different
bag elsewhere, I can go play for a title. Right
because South Carolina that needs to replace a lot of people.
Right for the minutes that they had this year, they
had what three or four women drafted, So it's that
kind of thing. But these are players that we watch

(08:04):
and you mentioned that the basketball side for men at
the college level, how many came in and really added inpact.
You had four players average double digit scoring this year,
one of whom was Risha Che who comes from overseas.
Now that's the interesting part for this WNBA draft is
you did have two international players of the top five.
So Adam Silver's you know, vision of expansion, and that's

(08:27):
where the eyeballs are well. It also is in the
women's game.

Speaker 1 (08:30):
And maybe maybe one of them is maybe not, maybe
one of them's went, but maybe not. You know, no,
I mean open that up there.

Speaker 4 (08:36):
But that's the thing, though, you continue building that market
because you're right now, you're still in the aggregation phase.
You're still in the fined eyeballs, retain eyeballs expand to
where there's more dollars. So it's not just the Indiana
Fever that are selling out to bigger arenas, right that
We're going to see it beyond Caitlin Clark and with

(08:56):
you know this next iteration Becker's and those who will
follow her. You've got the attention of the sporting universe,
and you've got the dollars that are flowing in to
the marketplace to the sales of merchandise, memorabilia, ticket sales,
and just young girls watching these games at a rate

(09:16):
that isn't the same as it was a decade ago. Right,
We've got more interest and now it's a matter of capitalizing,
and so yeah, you've got a pretty healthy space for
the young players coming in now.

Speaker 1 (09:31):
The one thing I do want to warn, right, the
one thing to do is that there's gonna be the assumption. Okay,
here comes Page Beckers, who is by far and away
the number one overall picture draft this year.

Speaker 4 (09:41):
Right here she is. She's great.

Speaker 1 (09:43):
She's not Kitlyn Clark. Okay, she's not Kitlyn Clark. She's
not as dynamic as Kaitlin Clark. She's a great player.
Page Beckers is a great player. She's not getting nobody
is Nobody is Caitlyn Clark. Right, But she's gonna be
really good. But if you're expecting that, you're gonna be disappointed,
especially since you know she's got a She shared the
backcourt with the Rikio Gunbawalle, who likes one thing more

(10:03):
than anything else in the world, shooting the basketball. She
she averages twenty two points a game on nineteen shots.
Like she she just give me the But she's like
a human Papa shot machine.

Speaker 4 (10:14):
Just get it. I'm gonna gonna keep shooting, just give it.

Speaker 1 (10:16):
Keeps youot and keeps you And she's a volume shooter,
right and I and you know, she wasn't really thought
about for the Olympic team. And I can see why because, well,
if she's we're not gonna be cohesive. If she's gonna
take twenty five shots a game, right, There's only so
many shots going out there. So Paige Beckers is likely
gonna come in as a point guard, and she can
play both. She can play point guard, she can play

(10:38):
off guard, but probably in the you know, her her
path is gonna be as a point guard in the league,
and so that's clearly where it's gonna be now. But like,
she's not gonna suddenly score twenty a game because a
gun bowal is gonna take all those shots. She's the
number one offensive threat on that team. And again, she
is a volume shooter. And so it's unlike where Caitlin
Clark's gonna score all the points here and Asian Wilson's

(10:58):
gonna score the points here and Brianna's towards gonna square Like,
she's not gonna be that. So just understand she's a
different player. And maybe if she gets healthier and gets
more years removed from the knee injuries that cost her
in the college level, and she gets on you know,
a strength training program, because you saw the difference in
Kaitlyn Clark how jack she is now. You saw her
arms getting like you're gonna see a difference physically for

(11:19):
Page Beckers as well, and maybe she becomes a great, big, dynamic,
superstar player. But to expect that from her with it,
you're not gonna get that. She's a great player and
people are gonna watch and she's a star, and already
you can see that how exciting everybody is to have her,
how the Wings wanted her. But to expect her to
be Kitlyn Clark, She's not gonna be Kaitly Well.

Speaker 4 (11:36):
But that's said. It's from the game side of things.
She'll get her shots up plenty of time.

Speaker 1 (11:43):
But yeah, I don't know shot crazy. I take all
the shots. I take the shot.

Speaker 4 (11:47):
Eighteen point eight attempts per game in twenty twenty three
and nineteen point two. She shoots for a career thirty
nine percent from the field. Yeah she shoots a lot.
She shoots a lot more than she.

Speaker 1 (11:59):
Should quite on so eight a game from three point range? Yeah,
oh she got that bad from three? No, actually she's
like three out of eight from three. She's okay from
three's it's the other shots where it's like, wow, that's
a bad shot. Like wow, that's a bad shot.

Speaker 4 (12:12):
Now it's like pulling up for three when you don't
need to but it's the idea of like both sides
of it from a playing perspective, like you got to
grow into the game. She's gonna take her shots, not
to the same level that Clark did. That won't be
the residual hate that everybody had, because let's face it,
they're still seething and burning over that. And look at

(12:35):
look at that. You know the thing.

Speaker 1 (12:36):
I'm glad you brought that up because I gotta think
that at this point that part of it's over, Like, Okay,
you had the everybody who was jealous and had the
year to pout. You had the year to pout, and
now you have to understand after being away, Wow, she
really did something great for the game. She's not doing
anything to make you dislike her. If anything, she's worried

(12:58):
about what she says, because you I'm gonna say one
thing and then there's gonna be a big army of
people who are.

Speaker 4 (13:03):
Gonna say, oh, you're saying this.

Speaker 1 (13:04):
Saying this like all she's doing is coming out and
playing and she's trying to help the league. Anybody else
that came in would be regarded as a hero. But
because she wasn't the right player, because either her race
or because she came way too late, and then other
players who didn't get the credit that they deserve, the
players who were stars now not getting the credit they're
deserving for whatever reason that was out there that wasn't forceless.

(13:28):
And I'm hoping that, Okay, you got it out of
your system. Now let's go forward, because you see this
is a great play. There's room for everybody. There's room
for all of them.

Speaker 4 (13:35):
Well, but as we've talked about, I mean, the Elder
Statesman either playing or retired, I understand because we see
it in every sport, right, they couldn't hit against this pitcher.
They couldn't have played against this defense. They would have
beaten this guy's ass. He would have never gotten a
shot off, right, And that's what we've said about Steph

(13:56):
Curry and so many others for years. So the fact
that that happened in the w n B, A EH
can't be shocked. That was kind of kind of in line.

Speaker 1 (14:04):
With but it's the players of the past, is like yeah,
like like do I need to hear Rich Gossage say
about it?

Speaker 4 (14:09):
Yes, I get it, get Goose, I get it. No,
I mean, I'm just saying like it is comparable to
what we've seen plenty of times good looks.

Speaker 1 (14:17):
Let me just say to you, man, you gave up
two of the longest home runs in playoff history. We
had that home run to Gibson, that home run to Brett. Wow,
those balls are still going. But the current players recognizing
that that's that's you see. But how many videos did
you see about page Beckers look at her with their
teammates and look at look at her, and and how
the players are all accepting and whatever. It's like, all right,

(14:38):
it's all spin, right it It depends what you want
to show. So for Caitlin Clark, you know, maybe some
of that dispates, but Paige Beckers isn't gonna get it
because Clark was the first through the door. Yeah right,
But now it's like it's just like any other sport
where yeah, okay, you come in and be a star.
You're not Lebron, but I'm about you're not Lebron.

Speaker 4 (14:57):
He is.

Speaker 1 (14:58):
He is the big star. And it doesn't mean that
you're any less of a player or that you can
have any less of a career. You can still have
a great career and be a big, super duper, you know,
Jalen Brunts is not walking around gone, boy man, why
am I even playing?

Speaker 4 (15:11):
I got Lebron.

Speaker 3 (15:12):
He's a jerk.

Speaker 1 (15:13):
I don't like him. I'm not gonna, not gonna be Lebron.
Giannis is not walking around going. Lebron gets all the credit.
Look at what I've done. I won a championship all
by myself four years ago. I scored fifty points in
the deciding gain. I'm not getting No one else is
doing that. But yet in the WNBA, it's all other
people need to be getting.

Speaker 4 (15:28):
You could.

Speaker 1 (15:29):
It's a rising tide lifts all boats. That's all that's happening.
That's all that's going on. And now I hope that
when the season starts in a month that we're past
that and it's more okay. We got past the growing
pains of what happens when suddenly you can't handle success,
because that was my biggest thing last year was that
the WNBA couldn't handle success, and that was my one concern,

(15:49):
and they turned out not to be able to handle
it for a while. Now maybe they can handle after
having some time to get used to it well.

Speaker 4 (15:55):
But now you have also the we get to start
the narrative that died yesterday with with Rory, we get
to pick up the torch. Caitlin Clark's never won anything substantive,
no college, and can't you do it in the pros?

Speaker 1 (16:08):
Let's go oh with Shack's big line, I've wanted every
level except for college and the pros. Before he went
with the Lakers, I wanted every level. Still a lot
of levels exit up about a Fresco exit swollen down
the Jason smithshod with Mike car But just think that
the WNBA and the NFL have that huge trait in
common and that means growth and attention and all kinds

(16:28):
of good stuff. Coming up next, what do we think
is going to happen to playing round in the NBA
playoffs at start tomorrow night? Could there be a surprise
team or two getting out into the one versus eight playoffs?
That's coming up next with special guests Kurt Healing, Jason
and Mike Fox Sports Radio. Forty four zero. That's a
big number. Whether it's ounces of beer he used to

(16:50):
drink in college like you were, Harmon, or it's number
of pounds He and I are about to break past
that number.

Speaker 4 (16:59):
Four Let's go.

Speaker 4 (19:14):
Bud how are you, man?

Speaker 5 (19:15):
I'm doing all right. I just got back today from
Portland from the Nike Hoop Summit, and you guys greeted
me with Tears for Fears as the pumper music. Really, see,
here's the thing.

Speaker 4 (19:24):
But no, no, here's the thing. I hate that song.

Speaker 1 (19:27):
Alex ty Shirt who engineers the show every night, and
it says, oh, since you hate it, I'm going to
play it all the time. So I get the song
every night. You only get it once.

Speaker 4 (19:34):
I get it every night.

Speaker 5 (19:36):
I'm sorry for you because that song is a yeah,
that song you just have stayed in the eighties. Yeah,
like you know what, man, i'f the go gos want
to come back and play Coachella like they did good.
They looked good, they sounded good. It's good for them.
Don't need Tears for Fears that awesome.

Speaker 6 (19:49):
Kurt has a new walk up song.

Speaker 4 (19:50):
Okay, we got Curtins. What's Kurt's walk up song?

Speaker 6 (19:53):
Tears for Fears?

Speaker 1 (19:57):
Okay, I'm great with that. If you take it out
of rotation for me and now Kurt gets it, it's.

Speaker 4 (20:02):
Like the ring. It's like the ring. Now you got it.
Now you gotta take it all right? So here we go.

Speaker 1 (20:08):
You know, we were taking a look now at the
at what we're seeing in the playing round, And do
you see any craziness either in the I mean, I
mean the Eastern Conference is lucky if it's televised. Do
you see any crazy sorry, do you see any craziness
coming out of the playing round either East or the West?

Speaker 5 (20:24):
Not? Look, especially not in the West. I think there
is a distinct gap between Sacramento and Dallas and anybody else.
Like I just don't. I can't. It's one game, so
I mean again, it's what we love about the NCAA
tournament and those kind of situations where the Warriors could

(20:47):
lose to the Mavericks I mean Matt Mavericks mage to Memphis.
I mean, it could happen. Probably doesn't, Memphis, probably wins,
but I don't think at that side it seems less
likely to me. And on the other side, it's almost
as bad. I think Orlando was clearing away the best
of that group. But I can't imagine anybody's beating with

(21:10):
the pressure on. I would expect Trey Young not to
shoot efficiently, but to put up numbers and get it done.

Speaker 4 (21:17):
I think he'd be more effective if he's playing the Knick,
so he just asked to pretend he's at Madison's.

Speaker 2 (21:21):
Yeah, that's a.

Speaker 5 (21:22):
Good point, Like if there was a way to get him.
Unfortunately he's not gonna get up to six, but like
we can get him on that side of the bracket,
that'd be great.

Speaker 4 (21:29):
No, that'd be fun.

Speaker 3 (21:30):
See.

Speaker 1 (21:30):
The thing is, I honestly, if you look at for
a surprise team, I don't know, man. I think the
Bulls can come out of that. And they've been pretty
good since the trade deadline. You got two really dynamic
players in White and Giddy. I mean I could see
I could see them winning these couple of games here
and getting in.

Speaker 5 (21:47):
That's not a crazy idea because the Hawks really, despite
having Dyson Daniels, don't really defend consistently well at all.
And there's only as good as Dys in his band.
There's one of him. Is not time yet to clone
him and have technology before the before the next round.
So yeah, I guess that I could. I could see

(22:09):
them again. It's the beauty of this thing. If it's
Atlanta versus Chicago in that second game, Yeah, you could
see that. I could see Levin getting hot. It's something
not Levine. But like somebody, they're getting hot. Even Bozellis
Lorookie is like he's been playing a lot better lately.
Somebody gets hot and makes that happen.

Speaker 4 (22:28):
Kert, let me take it to the thirty thousand foot
in view. How deep is the real pool of potential winners?

Speaker 5 (22:35):
I don't, honestly, it's too deep in the East. It's
I think Boston is clear clearly the best mentions they clearly.
I think they are capable of being the best team
when fully functional. They what's different for them this year
is they can't get to the finals and have for
Zingis get injured and have him sit for a few
games and they'll be fun. Like, that's not going to

(22:56):
be the ride this year. They are not coasting into
the finals. They're going to have to earn it. If
they're half a step back, Cleveland can beat them, and
they half a step back. The Knicks are a problem.
Like I don't I don't think the Knicks can beat them.
I think you can. There's places to attack them, but
they're not gonna be They're not They're gonna be physical,
They're gonna play hard, They're not gonna roll over. They're

(23:18):
gonna the Celtics are gonna have to earn this one.
But I still think it's Boston won Cleveland won a
and I don't think anybody else can get out of
the East in the West. I'll say that pool is
three deep now and I'm leaving Denver out uncomfortably, Like
maybe Denver could put together a run. But I think

(23:40):
the Lakers, Warriors, and then obviously the Thunder who I've
got who I've picked to come out, you know before
the season. I think those are your teams, and I
I could see the Warriors or the Lakers possibly upsetting
the Thunder. I wouldn't. I'm not gonna pick it. But
like that's not insane.

Speaker 4 (23:58):
You can never go to Houston again, then yeah, you're done,
You're you can never go.

Speaker 5 (24:04):
First off, I'm okay with that. Second no, I'm just
they're not there. I love that they're a young team,
they're athletic, they're going They're not gonna roll again. They're
not gonna roll over for anybody. If it is Golden
you know it is Golden State Houston, and that that's
gonna be a great series because the athletes everywhere on

(24:26):
that team. But I just don't I think you do
have to learn how to win in the NBA a
little bit. I think you've kind of got to tea
that team just as a group doesn't if the players
don't have experience. And I'll ask you the other question, Guys,
late in the game, it's gonna be tight, it's gonna
be clutch minutes. Who's there Alpha, who's the guy taking
the shots?

Speaker 4 (24:46):
Well, next year it'll be KD.

Speaker 5 (24:50):
Yeah exactly. So you're saying they're not gonna go get
Zion because you know that's out there.

Speaker 2 (24:57):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (24:57):
Dog.

Speaker 1 (24:57):
So that's the other thing too. Now Pelicans making making move?
Who now is Zion's future? Is he still going to
be a Pelican? You think he gets moved in the
off season.

Speaker 5 (25:05):
I will tell you this from what I've heard and
I and I know some people actually kind of reported
this a little bit today, but like what I had
heard after this and started reaching out to people today.
The Griffin thing, by the way, not a huge surprise here,
like I but when I reached out and they said, well,
Willie Green's like they're bringing in a new GM, so
you're done as coach, right, And a bunch of people said, no,

(25:28):
ownership likes him. Gail Benson and the top brass there
like him. So if it's do Mars, it looks like
it will be Joe Dumars. If it's Do Mars, you're
like he's going to be given marching orders to keep
Willie Green and trade Zion. So I think there's I

(25:50):
think that is there's a better than fifty percent chance
that happens this offseason. We'll see the problem is. But
somebody's going to take a swing on here him. But
I don't know how much they're going to get back.
I don't know if they're going to get back enough
to be worth it, because this isn't going to be
five first round picks, man. But I think it's if

(26:12):
you're an up and coming team, and I don't think
Houston should do it. But if you're an up and
coming team and you need an alpha and you need
like you want to take a swing, and it's just
kind of hot, you could take the bet. Because the
way his contract is structured, you can always just walk
away from it, like he's he's missed so many games
that you're going to be allowed unless he plays like

(26:33):
seventy and plays well, in which case you don't want
to let him go anyway, you can just walk away
from the contract. So I think somebody takes a swing
at him. I think they trade him so better.

Speaker 1 (26:42):
Than fifty like like better than fifty percent. Like it
could go either way, or it's going to like crawling
north of fifty.

Speaker 5 (26:48):
Crawling north of fifty and going up. I would you know,
sixty maybe and on sixty forty. Again, it's going to
depend on is it dumars and what are they getting
back in a trade? Like is it really going to
be worth it? But there's real potential on that Ruster.
I mean, look, Trey Murphy really started to come along
until he got hurt and Herb Jones and again the

(27:10):
same injury as Trey Murphy with the late torn labor,
really good defender de Jante Mary, you know, tears his achilles.
Hopefully he comes back at some point next season, and
there's some nice players there. I don't think you can
build a round Yon, and then so if you you
get back what you get back and you start retooling

(27:31):
that thing.

Speaker 4 (27:32):
Kurt, lastly you met Jason mentioned Kevin Durant. How many
of those guys are back in Phoenix? Do they finally
get to clear House fully after giving Bootenols a forty
million dollars to walk away.

Speaker 5 (27:46):
Yeah, nice gig if you can get it, isn't it. Yes, Well,
Kevin Durant is absolutely gone. They will work together to
find a deal. Bradley deal is probably gone again. They're
going to work together to find a deal. But that
one's a little harder. There's a lot of teams interesting,
you know you mentioned Houston. There's plenty of teams that

(28:07):
have interest in Durant and give him one hundred and
twenty two million dollar to your extension. He wants Beal's
a different story. You're gonna they might have to attach
a first to it or something. It's not gonna be easy,
but they're going to try to move that and rebuild
around Booker. The Booker's not going anywhere. Whoever they bring
in his coach. It's it's going to be a Booker

(28:29):
centric team and we'll see what it looks like. It's
they needed to do this, obviously what they had just
wasn't working. But I don't know that they're going to
be dramatically better next year unless they can really hit
a home run with these trades.

Speaker 1 (28:43):
He's on Twitter at Basketball Talk that is at Basketball Talk, Kurt,
big stuff.

Speaker 3 (28:48):
Man.

Speaker 4 (28:48):
Think we'll talk to you as the playoffs go on. Man,
thanks so much.

Speaker 5 (28:53):
I feel like I just need to hang up now
that music started.

Speaker 1 (28:55):
Yeah, I get played off with the go gos. But
apparently Alex tyscher like really just wants to play this again.

Speaker 4 (29:03):
All right, We got to make sure Kurt wants to
come back on the show. Yeah, that would helps Kurt. Yeah, yeah,
he likes us.

Speaker 1 (29:09):
Yeah say me all right, Well, it doesn't matter as
long as he likes Okay.

Speaker 6 (29:14):
Maybe he knows how eel's reproduced.

Speaker 4 (29:18):
No, I'm glad we didn't ask I'm glad we did
not ask him that.

Speaker 6 (29:21):
No, maybe Steve knows.

Speaker 1 (29:23):
How do you know, Steve knows a lot of things.
I don't think he knows that. I bet he knows
what's trending in the wide world of sports. And maybe
maybe the path of Juan Soto's home run tonight took
the path of an eel swimming in the water. I
don't know. We'll find out right now. He did have
an awesome hoodie on. I love that Won Soda wears
a hoodie. That's pretty cool, man.

Speaker 7 (29:43):
Yeah, it was more than a little cool in Minnesota
for that game.

Speaker 1 (29:47):
Lois crowd not non COVID years. Lois crowds in his
target field open in twenty ten.

Speaker 7 (29:53):
Yeah, that is saying something because they've had a lot
of games in the forties with temperatures. Gets an outdoor
stadium unlike the old you know, hefty bag and right
field at the undiverse stadium they had for years. Mets
are eleven and five. By the way, they won five
to one at Minnesota. The Twins record five and twelve,
although it was another good start for Joe Ryan, but
Twins offense was three for twenty eight with thirteen strikeouts,

(30:14):
and Twins first baseman Ty Franz was named AL Player
of the Week, Brewers catcher William Contreras NL Player of
the Week Wan Soto for the Mets two run homer,
Pete Alonso, two singles, two walks. But the Padres are
the lead story late tonight because they're still undefeated at home.
It's eleven and oh at home.

Speaker 4 (30:31):
Now.

Speaker 7 (30:32):
If you look at the list of the ten best
starts at home in baseball history, five of the ten
teams go back to the eighteen hundreds. More recently, a
couple of years ago. The Ray started fourteen and oh
at home again, Padres eleven and oh at home at
the moment, and they just pitched three straight shutouts over
the weekend against Colorado. Fernando Tatist Junior two home runs
tonight for San Diego. It's ninth cell out of the year,

(30:54):
ten four over the Cubs, and Colorado lost again. Dodgers
held on five to three against the Rocky who have
a three and thirteen record, and the Rockies are already
ten and a half games out in the division. We
are not quite to mid April. Early home runs for
Mookie Beds.

Speaker 1 (31:11):
The Braves who started out oh to fifteen are even
closer to first place.

Speaker 7 (31:16):
Yeah, the Braves are five and eleven now. They've gotten
a few wins recently. But yike's what is going on
with the Rockies. It's just the worst division to be in.
If you're the Rockies, you couldn't have picked a worst
division to be in.

Speaker 4 (31:28):
Mookie bets Sho.

Speaker 7 (31:28):
Heeo Tani early home runs, La wins Dustin May. The
victory the Atlanta win was eight four at Toronto. They
led eight to nothing in the fifth. Austin Riley two homers,
five RBIs Braves on the road had been one and nine.
The Giants on the Road are eight and two. They
were down at Philadelphia three to nothing in the first,
then scored six times top of the second, ten to
four Giants.

Speaker 4 (31:49):
The final.

Speaker 7 (31:49):
Pittsburgh and Paul Skeens beat Washington ten to three, Tampa
Bay sixteen to one over Boston. It was a fourteen
to one lead in the third inning. The Yankees had
four solo homers against Royals, losing pitcher Seth Lugo four
to one Yanks.

Speaker 4 (32:03):
The final.

Speaker 7 (32:04):
Jazz Chisholm with his sixth homer of the year already
Ben Rice with his fifth. By the way, Aaron Judge
was named tam USA captain for next year's World Baseball Classic.
It was Detroit and Trek scouble winning nine to one
at Milwaukee. Saint Louis and pitcher Sonny Grays three to
zero beat Houston eight three. That was eight to nothing
in the ninth. The Phoenix Suns fired coach Mike Budenholzer

(32:24):
after one season. The Pelicans fired vice president David Griffin.
The NBA playing tournament starts Tuesday with two games. Purdue
All American guard Braden Smith will return for his senior season.
The WNBA draft was tonight Yukon's page. Beckers was taken
number one overall by Dallas. Six foot six center Dominique
Malonga from France went to Seattle in the NHL. Among

(32:46):
the six games, LA a five nothing winner at Edmonton
to clinch home ice advantage for the upcoming first round series.
The NHL regular season ends Thursday. Back to you, Thank you, Steve.

Speaker 1 (32:56):
The Jason Smith Show with my best friend Mike Harmon
Lai from the Tirack dot com studios. Coming up next,
how about not one, but two big conspiracy theories coming
off of two big stories today?

Speaker 4 (33:07):
Oh sweet, I love those.

Speaker 1 (33:09):
One's about basketball and one's about a trophy. Oh that's next.

Speaker 6 (33:14):
Fox, Where do wheels come from?

Speaker 2 (33:16):
No?

Speaker 4 (33:16):
Not no.

Speaker 3 (33:17):
This one goes out to the eels.

Speaker 4 (33:19):
What the hell are you playing?

Speaker 6 (33:20):
Goes out to the eels.

Speaker 1 (33:27):
It's a blowboard gang. Fox Sports Radio, The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon.

Speaker 6 (33:33):
Wait for the chorus.

Speaker 3 (33:36):
Here's for the Eels, Jason and the re vehicle Tigle.

Speaker 1 (33:46):
Yeah, okay, all right, okay. This song was popular for
about like eight seconds, like in the in the all right,
yeah right. Two thousand and five is two thousand and six,
the vast barren wasteland.

Speaker 4 (34:06):
That is the Aughts. What do you consider it in
pop culture? I like a month.

Speaker 6 (34:11):
They have over six hundred million plays on that.

Speaker 1 (34:14):
Well, if you got at least four people in the band,
if you're continuing to hit play every few minutes, you
get a.

Speaker 4 (34:19):
Lot of I'm just gonna say this, I've fear for humanity.
Six hundred million plays of that.

Speaker 1 (34:27):
But who knows if what Tyser's telling you is the truth.
I don't need science, man, I don't even know. I
don't even Bill n Yeah, no one knows how eels, right,
we can't tell how Eel's reproduced. Well, Bill Ny doesn't lie?

Speaker 3 (34:40):
Why is it?

Speaker 2 (34:41):
What is it?

Speaker 4 (34:41):
Okay?

Speaker 1 (34:42):
Okay, all right, all right, you know what. I open
the door. Let's walk through. What does Bill Ny lie about?

Speaker 6 (34:47):
Where do I start?

Speaker 4 (34:48):
Give me one big thing.

Speaker 1 (34:49):
The thing that he lies about, allegedly that upsets you
the most, the.

Speaker 6 (34:54):
Fact that he says he knows what's going on in space?

Speaker 4 (34:57):
Okay, science? I thought, no, you said, was Neil deGrasse
Tyson don't.

Speaker 6 (35:01):
We don't have time for that.

Speaker 4 (35:02):
But you said it was. But you said earlier he
was the guy that didn't know anything about he's it.

Speaker 6 (35:08):
Well, all right, there, so how Bill Bill Ny lies?

Speaker 4 (35:11):
Bill Ny? But what do you lie? Tell me something
you lied about?

Speaker 6 (35:15):
What do we start?

Speaker 3 (35:16):
Just tell me one day? The Bill just there? You go.

Speaker 4 (35:21):
What's his name?

Speaker 6 (35:22):
I don't know what's not?

Speaker 3 (35:22):
Bill?

Speaker 4 (35:23):
How do you know what's not?

Speaker 3 (35:24):
Let me look it up.

Speaker 4 (35:26):
His name is Bill? His name stan Nye. I gotta
do it. Bill, William Sanford.

Speaker 3 (35:33):
No, it's a lie. I's William Bill.

Speaker 1 (35:36):
Okay, well, okay, so it's you open that door. That's
not one of the conspiracy theories I was talking about.
And I said, we got a bonus one, uh to
conspiracy theory number one. Right, you saw today with Vice
President JD. Van's welcoming the Ohio State Buck guys to

(35:58):
the White House. Drop the Chaceampionship trophy. It came apart,
dropped it on the ground, picked it up. Conspiracy theory.
That's not the real championship trophy. What do you think
it was from a three D that is that is
a that is a traveling trophy that they use for
moments like this. The real trophy they keep back so
it doesn't get dropped or busted or broken or dented,

(36:19):
because look, how many times have you seen people travel
with These trophies are supposed to be great trophies, and
the top falls off the bottom. Come on me in
the bottom can't fall off the National Championship trophy. Oh,
but the top is made to come off. No, I'm
telling you conspiracy theory. If you told me they had
a travel trophy for different leagues, had it that went around,
I'd believe you would say one hundred percent you were
right about that.

Speaker 4 (36:38):
Maybe this was the rejected design of a Minecraft popcorn bunch.

Speaker 1 (36:44):
Oh, maybe that's how the eels spawned. They did just Minecraft,
they just spawned, or they have an eel spawner or
chicken just saboteur eel jockey.

Speaker 4 (36:56):
Again. Yeah, your kids can't slide right.

Speaker 1 (36:58):
Off the eel slide flint and steel.

Speaker 4 (37:03):
Uh so yeah, a Michigan fan infiltrated the proceedings.

Speaker 1 (37:07):
Oh yeah, just like sought it off. There was one
guy there wearing a Michigan hat. Jd Vance was not happy.
No actually mentioned uh uh, social Security actually mentioned.

Speaker 4 (37:16):
Well, there's a lot I saw that with Bowser from
Shanna and I yelling about leaving social Security alone. Did
he really did he say dot dodo do dodo do do?

Speaker 2 (37:26):
Yeah?

Speaker 4 (37:26):
He was singing, singing the old do wop songs.

Speaker 1 (37:29):
Do not touch social security?

Speaker 4 (37:34):
Do dodo do do? I hate to not have a
check to cash?

Speaker 1 (37:40):
Do dodo do? Okay, So that's conspiracy theory numbers. Okay,
that one's pretty good.

Speaker 4 (37:44):
That's it.

Speaker 1 (37:45):
The other one is now this report today, Luka Doncic
has the number one selling jersey in the NBA, right
first time in twelve years. It's not Lebron or Steph Curry.
Now this maybe this is just me, because it could
it could really be just me. But living here in La,
I don't know that I've seen one person in person

(38:07):
wearing a Luka Doncic Lakers jersey. I don't know what
that's saying. I see, I see cutaways in the crowd,
and but I don't see people in my every day
like you would think.

Speaker 4 (38:16):
I would say it.

Speaker 1 (38:17):
I'm out and about every day doing stuff I have
my day. I go while we go to around, I'm nuts.

Speaker 4 (38:22):
I see it.

Speaker 1 (38:22):
Look every third person's wearing something Dodgers. That that that's
how Potu the Dodgers are. People wear Lakers stuff. But
Luka Donc's seventy seven jerseys. I don't think that I've
seen one person live in person wearing them. Not saying
that it's not real, but like, how many jerseys are
really sold?

Speaker 4 (38:38):
Right?

Speaker 5 (38:39):
Like?

Speaker 1 (38:39):
Did did Mavericks fans buy them all because they were upset?
Did Nico Harrison buy them all because he's like, hey, listen,
I just want to make sure that nobody can wear
them so I don't have to walk down the street
and see someone wearing a seventy seven Luca Lakers jersey,
and I don't want that. So I'm gonna buy all
the jerseys.

Speaker 4 (38:53):
I mean, could be or they knew it would get
him to the top of the list thereby Irkin Lebron
James and Lebron's James. People Like I'm seeing people posting
pictures of the new Ken doll. They're not exactly moving
like hotcakes. I don't I don't think Nico is one
of those I'm playing chess while you're playing checkers. Well,
I think it would have been kind of fun. I don't think. Also,

(39:14):
not a great couple of weeks for guys name Nico.
Uh yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah yeah. It's been a
bit of struggle, a bit of a struggle.

Speaker 1 (39:21):
Yeah, yeah, well well Nico Harris're going back to February.

Speaker 4 (39:24):
With But it's also you know, the ownership really got
a free pass out of all of that.

Speaker 1 (39:30):
Sure that guy, sure, look what he did. Nobody said
he was doing what we wanted him to execute. It
was O you're nuclear man, You're gonna, you're gonna, you're
gonna take this for us. Okay, just so you know,
all right, Greg, well you tell your job, but you're
gonna how much.

Speaker 4 (39:44):
Of the one hundred million that Luca lost, does Nico get.

Speaker 5 (39:46):
The buk.

Speaker 1 (39:48):
You take this, We'll give you three percent of the
money we were gonna give to Luca. Okay, this is
still pretty good because that's the other part the whole
equation for Luca coming to La Maybe he boughted.

Speaker 4 (40:00):
Know he get by the jersey. He lost over one
hundred million dollars. He can't get the superman. He's the
kidney getting salty.

Speaker 1 (40:07):
But I mean, I don't I don't know that I've
seen one person wearing a Luca jersey. Every person in Europe,
they're all across Europe, or they haven't made it through
the boat. That's got stopped Germany, and I don't know Italy.
Maybe Scotland wearing the Luca Laker jerseys. That's where it
is now.

Speaker 4 (40:24):
Maybe maybe Luca bottom all that. We don't know how
many jerseys that represents. That's the biggest question in all
of it.

Speaker 1 (40:31):
