(00:52):
we are to appetizer games before the main course. We
will find out tonight if the Lakers are indeed back.
If the Lakers are back, they win tonight. The Lakers
are not back, Oh boy, where it. We're gonna get
more stories about Shannon Sharp sex life.

Speaker 3 (01:10):
Wow, that's ita good, I know. Paul Hayman has some
thoughts WrestleMania weekend.

Speaker 1 (01:15):
I know, I know way more about Shannon Sharp sex
life than I ever wanted to over the last time.
When is the docu series? I mean, I mean, there's
there's evid, there's videos, there's there's there's all kinds of
everything is out there.

Speaker 3 (01:27):
Everything we know might be the only Hollywood production still
going on here over here in the valley.

Speaker 1 (01:31):
They might have a film in the works. I feel
like this is this is this is one of those
scandals that both sides are racing to release the stuff
so people can hear it like this is insane.

Speaker 3 (01:41):
Well, that's it. Just keep feeding more and more information.
Here's your overla, parse it out and try to figure out.

Speaker 1 (01:49):
Usually where you land. Usually it's hey, nobody wants the details.
I know, No, everybody, Let's get the details. Let's get
them all out. Let's get let's everybody. One side gets bout. No,
the other side wants to get it out more. Now
we're gonna get it out. No, we're gonna get nowhere
to go. This this I mean, I look at the
Shannon Sharp story and I go, this is the decline
and Fall of Western civilization, Part three. This is the decline.
We had the TV, we had the movie in the

(02:10):
eighties with the heavy metal and now this is part three?

Speaker 3 (02:12):
Wasn't there part three? Didn't they already do one?

Speaker 1 (02:14):
No, we take that.

Speaker 3 (02:15):
I don't think anybody saw it. Wow, that's a whole
other question. I mean it's it's like, you know, did
they really did they do Hangover four?

Speaker 1 (02:22):
There was? Was there a Hangover four? No? Okay, you
should wash your mouth out for just saying, are they
still doing like this? It's up to Descendants five?

Speaker 2 (02:31):
Now?

Speaker 3 (02:31):
Is that what it is? Descendants five? They just had
what is it, the Red Queen or something like.

Speaker 1 (02:37):
That Red Hulk that was a new event. No, no, no,
it's a different person. That wasn't That wasn't as terrible
as I thought. I thought, the Red Hulk and the
Red Queen together. Maybe that's the next movie.

Speaker 3 (02:46):
Would have been a good My end Listen, nineteen ninety
eight was decline of Western civilization.

Speaker 1 (02:52):
This is part this is this is already, this is
more five, This is already this, this supersedes that. I mean,
this just.

Speaker 3 (02:59):
Comes back to the the age of all right, until
there are criminal you know, charges, to the point where
you're convicted, just let it play out, Okay, right, I
mean that that's kind of where we're at. You want
to put them on TV, put them on TV. I
mean it was gonna be one hundred million dollars, man,
wasn't He wasn't that the last year? Yeah? One hundred

(03:20):
million dollar guy. Now it's a hundred million going the
other way.

Speaker 1 (03:23):
So getting set for the Lakers Game two against the
Tea Wolves, all of a sudden, maybe now this is
the year they should run with the Hey, you know,
the Anthony Edwards Michael Jordan storyline might actually be better
now than it was a year ago. We really forced
it so much. But uh, Michael Jordan never get fined
that much. But that game coming up will of course
keep you updated throughout the night tonight. The Lakers need

(03:43):
to tie this series up going back to Minnesota. Meanwhile,
earlier we saw the thunderbeat the Grizzlies one eighteen ninety nine.
No surprise there, and uh, but here I am all
ready to make a coaching change for next season. I'm
all ready to make one because I know what's gonna happen.
Didn't we already killed this guy off the year? I
know it's gonna happen. Uh. The Pacers lead the Bucks

(04:05):
two games to none. Yep, they win it one twenty three,
one point fifteen. Uh, Siakam and Trent get into a
little bit of a scuffle back and forth during this one,
and the Bucks and Doc Rivers now down twos. It
like I throw Duck rad Doc Rivers in there. The
Bucks and Doc Rivers down Two's it been this series?
Number one?

Speaker 3 (04:23):
It's gonna be tough because Doc can't say, oh well,
not gonna blame me for blowing the three to one
series lead this time. Can't do it? What are all
my critic's gonna say? Now, I can't blow it three?

Speaker 1 (04:34):
Oh?

Speaker 3 (04:34):
He does blow three to one series? We're down oh two?
What do you think about that? You have nothing to
say to you? We're down oh two? Yeah, keep quiet. Yeah,
I'm winning, winning many times.

Speaker 1 (04:44):
It's been his sweat.

Speaker 3 (04:45):
Because we're gonna get to that pretty damn quick to
where this is going.

Speaker 1 (04:49):
Uh but yeah, I mean, look that's where we're at. Look,
Damian Lillard makes his return to I clearly not the
same Damian Lillard coming back from from the blood clot.
Great to see him back. I mean, that's the number
one thing. Great to see him back because what he's
suffering through and Wemby, it's not these aren't injuries. These
are these are serious medical conditions. And to see Damian
Lillard come back as fast as he has is a great,

(05:11):
great story, and you know, but clearly not the not
the same player yet. He's gonna need to ramp back
up into basketball shape. But I'll tell you what already.
Not only am I gonna make a coaching change, I'll
tell you who's gonna get the job. Okay, So who's
doc Rivers lead Doc Rivers? So I realized that did
I spoil it? I might just leave. I might just leave.

(05:32):
I don't know.

Speaker 3 (05:33):
I like to I might do the George Costanza. You
can't fire him if you can't find me. So maybe
I just go on vacation, believe it or not, doc
using at home Doc Rivers because this is just I mean, look,
it's not getting any better though it's not.

Speaker 1 (05:47):
Yeah, the first half was it? And they literally like
it was? Yes, yeah, literally did.

Speaker 3 (05:51):
But it was another one of those situations like they're
gonna play some defense, aren't they.

Speaker 1 (05:54):
They're gonna play a little bit of defense.

Speaker 3 (05:56):
And then they fought back they end up losing by eight,
but they at least put up a fight.

Speaker 1 (06:01):
I mean they lost by eight, and Bobby Porters went
for twenty eight and twelve off the bench tonight. I
mean twenty eight and twelve and you lost. He's still playing, Oh,
yes he is. He's gonna be ten years, he'll still
be playing. He'll still be coming off the bench. Bobby Porter.

Speaker 3 (06:16):
No, still the same Bobby Ports, former Bull and Knicks.
Still Bobby Porters. I mean, look, is there anything that's
gonna have. I'll give you this lead pipe. Certain, I'll
give you this this NBA playoff guarantee. The head coach
of the Milwaukee Bucks next year is Mike Malone. Oh sorry,

(06:36):
Michael Malone.

Speaker 1 (06:37):
Oh you got it right, Mike, Yeah, I mean you
got Mike. You know he's the job right now. He's
the head coach of the Bucks next season, right because
it clearly look you're you're continuing to waste the prime
of Giannis. Look, they get to the mountaintop and they win,
but they've not been able to keep it going since
and you have a lot of issues. Obviously, it's not
been anything close to what you envision when you got
Damian Lillard, and you thought we're gonna run rough shot

(06:58):
over the Eastern Conference, and that you have watched at
least three teams pass you by in the Eastern. Maybe
four teams have passed you by in the East overall.
That's not good man. So you know what change is coming.
But who's got the experience of coaching a big superstar,
a big in the middle, had to respect won a championship. Yeah,
Michael Malone's gonna come in and get this job over Doc.

(07:20):
Because someone's gonna come in. You need a little bit
of a hard ass now, right. You gotta follow a
player's coach kind of with a hard ass coach, and
not that Doc isn't always the most players of coaches,
but still you need a couple of different philosophies. And
Malone coming in, that's the guy. Who else you're gonna
get guy won a championship two years ago and he's out. Okay,
maybe he's humbled a little bit. I gotta come in.

(07:40):
But they need someone to grab a hold of this
of this program and say, okay, this is what we
need to be because right now the Bucks, it's like
they just go out there and play. You had Kyle Kuzma,
who was a really dynamic player. And I'm at least
he scored in this game. At least he scored twelve
in this game. He didn't go zero zero zero zero
zero zero zero zero. Did you kind of feel bad
for him in that game? Though?

Speaker 3 (08:00):
Hoof just a little bit like twenty two minutes and
nary at stat to be found. That's almost impossible. It's
only ten guys on the damn court. The ball had
to hitch you in the hands at some point on accident?

Speaker 1 (08:13):
Is that count?

Speaker 3 (08:13):
As an assistant bounced off his head to a teammate,
does that count?

Speaker 1 (08:17):
I don't know.

Speaker 4 (08:18):
Uh.

Speaker 3 (08:18):
The favorite earlier in this season, when it looked like
Doc might have been on the hot seat was Terry Statts. Okay,
so you've got him. You you go over and look
at some of the other would be wizards on benches elsewhere,
and then Mark d'antoni's still up there, Manti Williams. So

(08:39):
there's there's guys. How excitable you are about any of them?
I don't know, but certainly tis sure not yet, not
yet soon though maybe well we called that one about
six weeks ago, A long time ago. I did like
there was thing going around though, where there was a

(09:02):
great camera angle on Tibbs where it looked like he'd
had a hair restoration. Okay, all right, all of a
sudden it looked like he was walking with a full
head of lettuce and it was just the way it
blended in the background of him. But you know, he
might need that he could show a renewed, youthful appearance
to give him that shot at that next gig. Look,

(09:25):
and I'll say this, because we were both off last night.
We had, you know, night with all our families at
California Adventure with iHeart was a great night last night.
You and I were there, Justin was there, Alex Tischert
was there.

Speaker 1 (09:36):
Thanks ninety eight seven, and you know the Nicks lose
and you know all the how are you? How are Jason?
Oh my god? How do you have out? And I'm
honest with I'm honest with you right now. I am
absolutely fine because because you had a turo because well no,
because I did have I did have shwarma last night,

(09:57):
Save the world. Then schwarma is because I I have
zero expectations for this next team. I told you I
had zero, that this is not their year. The roster
did not come together. And I'll tell you this much.
The guy following TIBs out the door if they lose
this round of the Pistons is mcal Bridges, and it's
gonna be. This is how we revamp the team for
next year is taking one of the stars. Because it's

(10:18):
starting five is in credit. They put together an incredible
starting five. It's not gelling like you would expect. And
mcal Bridges is not someone that's seen the basketball enough.
He's had a tough time getting hot. He has games
where he absolutely disappears, and he is your most marketable
asset that will bring back what you need to complete
this team, because it's just how they have it now.

(10:39):
It's this iron man basketball of Hey, we're gonna have
the five stars out there as much as possible. There's
still not enough flow and sometimes there's not enough touches
for Karl Anthony Towns and trying to get too many
people involved is really difficult. And when Brunson's has the
ball most of the time and it's he and Kat
all right, you're trying to bring another scorer in here
that's not working and Unobe with his three and D

(11:01):
is great. Josh Hart finds his spots, right, that's but
the Bridges thing is a really difficult thing. And they
traded five number one picks for him. So that so
following TIBs out the door, if the Knicks lose to
the Pistons, is gonna is gonna be Michal Bridges because
that's the only way they get a couple of pieces
that can either supplement or work better with what they have.
Because you just have a collection of talent right now

(11:22):
with the Knicks. And I thought, oh, this is gonna
come to that. It gonna be unbelievably awesome. Now it's like, oh,
you know, they'll win. They'll beat the teams that are
about as good as them and not quite as good,
but the team's better than them, forget it, right, Like
I mean, and again, I have no expect and I'm
not saying no, no, no. The Mets I have big time
expectations for. And I'm like, okay, now, I'm I'm gripping
my ass off this year because this is now, this

(11:42):
is We're we have the best record in baseball. We're
not even hitting yet, and this is it. But the Knicks,
I'm like, yeah, whatever, man, what they have? I have
zero expectation whatever happened to Then if they win the series, great,
it's a bonus, right, That's how I look at a bonus. Now,
what's gonna likely happen is I'm sure they're gonna they're
gonna win. They're gonna lose this series, and then some
how the Celtics will get upset and the Caves will
get upset and it will be oh, it's there for us.

(12:04):
That's climply how it works for the mix. But like,
if they get out of here, great, If not, okay,
I I zero expectations for the.

Speaker 3 (12:11):
Jason Tatum doubtful for the next game, the Celtics with
that wrist injury where they said let him get up himself,
he's really hurt, get.

Speaker 1 (12:21):
Up, rub it off.

Speaker 3 (12:23):
So it's that curiosity will watch you and continue to
monitor your heart rate, uh and your your angst akstiness.
Then the Mets helping you quite a bit because yesterday,
I mean as Justin is wont to do to poke
the bear, as as the Knicks go down and defeat, Yeah,
but the Mets one jerk.

Speaker 1 (12:41):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (12:42):
I gotta look at the positives, right, I gotta if
I line for a ride, have it zero.

Speaker 1 (12:50):
Is all good, man, all good.

Speaker 3 (12:51):
It's like, but it comes back to the ability of
a squad because you got health for the most part
for your Yeah, seventeen years.

Speaker 1 (13:02):
He great.

Speaker 3 (13:03):
If you get sixty five in this day and age
in the NBA, yeah, that means you had a healthy year, right.
But when you're playing with such a short rotation, those
guys are on heavy minutes, and now you try to
extend that into play. It's a lot easier to shrink
it down and just say, hey, you you got used
to your twelve minutes in the regular season. You got
nothing now, versus, hey, you ready to come off the bench.

Speaker 1 (13:24):
What's my role? Don't know?

Speaker 3 (13:25):
Remember, because when Brunson suddenly was out, everybody's standing around.
Look at who's taking it, who's getting the ball on
the inbound I don't know.

Speaker 1 (13:32):
Zero. Expect that's it. Expect nothing. You'll never be disappointed.
Se expecting nothing. I'm expecting nothing. It's all good.

Speaker 3 (13:38):
Expect lifetime of your sports, your sports life, and my
sports life wrapped into one.

Speaker 2 (13:44):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific.

Speaker 1 (13:51):
Happy Thursday, happy NFL Draft Night. Yeah, the Jason Smith
Show with my best friend Mike Harmon. I'm ass man.
The first thirty two picks of the draft are in
the books. We'll get to it in a second.

Speaker 2 (14:05):
One, two, three, four.

Speaker 3 (14:08):
He actually does count that high. I'm gonna can't do
that thing? Is he the official counter? Did you guys
use him during the draft show?

Speaker 1 (14:19):
But something first. We had talked about all week, maybe
for a week and a half leading up to it,
when we knew it was going to happen. Great NFL
Draft Live show. We just had Jenny Tafft, Jay Glazer,
LeVar Arrington and former Jets GM Joe Douglas, who I

(14:40):
got to meet. There will be a video put up
on five Sports Radio Twitter account very soon, and I
don't want to spoil anything, except I will say this.
I can no longer drink the diet coke that I
had in my hand when I walked in. You will
see why. You'll see why. We'll tell you when it
goes up. Being at right now, we put together we

(15:01):
wanted got to meet Joe Douglas, got to talk to him,
and and and I'm on the air and everything is fine.

Speaker 3 (15:07):
So it didn't seem like there was great animosity, or
at least he hid it well if he had, anything
could be for you.

Speaker 1 (15:15):
Very nice man.

Speaker 3 (15:16):
Great job by by Jenny and LeVar and Jay and Joe.
I mean, that was just fantastic listen throughout. Obviously Jay
is the information man of information man, but Jenny running
point and seamlessly through the thirty two picks a lot
of moving parts, add the trades right off the jump chaos.
I'm texting you. It was like, well, it's all happening.

(15:38):
It's all happening just as we thought, unless it didn't
still the same order, just jumbled the insignias a little bit.

Speaker 1 (15:46):
Yeah, look, I was I was a little nervous. I
didn't know how it was gonna go coming in and okay,
and you know here he is former GM and the
Jets and also talk about the Jets. What are we
gonna how's it gonna go? And and I think it, well,
I don't, I don't. I don't know that hell, he
would talk to me again. But but maybe that's a
you know, the video happ you.

Speaker 3 (16:07):
I mean, we all just kind of back, let you
do your thing. Uh, there was no judgment past. Yeah, no,
that's true. That's true. We're all mired, you know, in
our own little conversations. What did your team do? How'd
you like my team? How is the drive in? Uh?
What'd you do with your extra hour while you were
listening to draft coverage? Might have laid down and your

(16:29):
draft coverage? Sure, in second screen experience, I made all
those kinds of things. But you got to meet Joe Douglas.
I mean, I know it's been an ambition going on
many a year. I have I still have like five
or six questions for him. So sure when we have
a return bout, we won't have any no fanboy things,

(16:50):
journalistic question.

Speaker 1 (16:51):
Listen, listen, the next bab it'll it'll be legit. And
you know, next thing it will be legit. This was
how's it?

Speaker 3 (16:56):
You know this is I don't know, it's a It
was kind of like I thought the the the atmosphere
is kind of like a way in before a boxing.

Speaker 1 (17:03):
That's kind of where I was a little bit. So
you were gonna get hit.

Speaker 3 (17:05):
I mean, well, and I'm playing a lot of conversations
on the side and they tell you guys in the middle, I'll.

Speaker 1 (17:10):
Tell you what man I walked in and I'm like, whoa,
Joe Douglas is way bigger than I am. Wow, this
would not even be closed. That was something that stood
out really fast. He was he was sitting in the
in this in the seat right here in the studio,
or watching him coming in, and I'm you know, I'll
tell you this. Here's a teaser. I'm wearing a Jets hoodie.
You know, I had to do it for meeting Joe.

(17:32):
Try to come in. I see everybody. Everybody stands up,
and Joe stands up and it's one of those when
people stand up and they don't really need to move
their feet because their feet are already on the ground.
And I'm like, oh wow, Wow, he's a big dude.

Speaker 3 (17:44):
Wow.

Speaker 1 (17:44):
Okay, all right then okay what uh uh okay? And
then I met Joe Douglas.

Speaker 3 (17:49):
See, here's the thing, me being the five foot seven
fire plug of a man that I am.

Speaker 1 (17:55):
Everybody's tall.

Speaker 3 (17:56):
Yeah, so the extra two inches here there, it doesn't
really matter, right, the difference between a six foot and
a seven foot.

Speaker 1 (18:03):
You're all tall.

Speaker 3 (18:04):
I'm looking at yeah, yeah, and I say you are
not you, but you know people six feet are taller
that you're You're all giants relative to me, So you
know that that extra bit. But I could see the
fear in your eyes that if things went badly, he
had reach and could take you out. One hundred percent. Yeah,
hundred percent, one hundred percent. I I I mean I
I mean.

Speaker 1 (18:24):
The gun show. You know you were a bit into
I like to think I'm prepared for any circumstance. That
was one when he stood up, I was like, oh, wow,
this is where you're bad.

Speaker 3 (18:34):
First step really could have cost you, really could have
been problem.

Speaker 1 (18:40):
Jason Smith Mike Harmon post NFL draft show here and
what a first round we had. We had fireworks early.
But the biggest story, crazily because this is the NFL,
right is Jay Lazer likes to shave that say, the
greatest reality show in the history of the world is
the NFL. And all the conversation is about a guy
that didn't get taken tonight and that Shador Sanders, who

(19:01):
was still on the board. Mel Kuiper's number one quarterback
is still on the board going into the beginning of
the second one.

Speaker 3 (19:09):
Did you decide you had to throw shade at mel
Kip No, because here's the thing. I think he was
a big deal. Why FLT so bad for Mel because
because I told you I know, I know Mel for
a long time. I haven't talked to in a few years,
but when I was on ESPN, we talked all the time.
And he comes out right away Shadoor Sanders my number
one quarterback on the border, and he just falls. All
the way through the first round Shador Sanders and Kuiper's talking.

Speaker 1 (19:29):
About and other quarterbacks.

Speaker 3 (19:30):
I'm going, oh, I just I just feel bad at
this point because here's Meler.

Speaker 1 (19:36):
No, there's a pic. It's not your door, Nope, not
your door, Nope, not your door, Nope, not your door.

Speaker 3 (19:40):
And then there were you could speak of it with conviction, Jason,
and in the end you may have your evaluation on
a player. That just means thirty two groups of people
disagreed with you.

Speaker 1 (19:50):
Yeah, it's true. If there was.

Speaker 3 (19:51):
Thirty three, they might they might have been with you. Yeah,
I mean that's all thirty three you need. It was
one you needed one more.

Speaker 1 (19:56):
Now before we get into the slide, there is no
like if you said to me, hey, what Schadoor Sanders
like if you can you can encapsulate Shadeur Sanders in
one ten second clip. I would say to you absolutely
what we saw tonight when ESPN went to their first
commercial break and Chadeur Sanders hadn't been taken yet, right

(20:16):
they they had the first couple piccks, We had the
big trade with the Jaguars and the Browns, which we'll
get to in a few minutes. And you hear Mike
Greenberg saying, hey, coming up and Shador Sanders, of course,
where is he gonna go? And they cut to his
draft party. Are the where he's going to be And
it's a wide shot of a couch that's got two
pillows that say legendary on them behind him in all

(20:39):
different kinds of script and font are all words describing
shauduor Sanders. It says legendary, it says perfect timing everywhere,
which I think is a really great troll job. Right.
He doesn't play on time. That was a big thing, man, Yeah,
the unnamed coach said yesterday, Sador Sanders doesn't play on time,
and he's got perfect timing and money signs everywhere. All
of this and huge font behind the couch and he's

(21:01):
not in the camera. Nobody is on camera. It's an
empty shot of the couch that is Shadoor Sanders. That
is so on brand that I can't I can't even
tell you. It's absolute perfection. This is this is a
guy who is so full is so he's full of himself,
He's full of what he can do, he is full
of confidence. He has it all going on right, all

(21:24):
of this. And then at the same time, now I'm
not gonna be on camera because you don't need to
see me on camera because I call the shots. Meanwhile,
maybe it's about you're not gonna see me on camera
the entire night, free falling through the first round of
the draft. But that is so on brand. Here's how
here's how I feel about my own abilities and how
my team feels about my abilities. And then when they take.

Speaker 3 (21:44):
The shot, the wide shot, there's nobody in it like
whether that was by design, but that I said, that
is that is Shadeur Sanders. That encapsulates him to a
t What does it mean to be him?

Speaker 1 (21:54):
That right there? Yeah?

Speaker 3 (21:55):
I mean you saw the tweet that was put up
before the draft. I mean I sent the thing to
you and our guy Justin Frossberg, who was producing the
draft show all the kind of novelty prop bets that
had been out there, one of which Shador Sanders had
allegedly changed his phone number, so there was a prop

(22:16):
bet of whether teams couldn't get a hoey because he
changed his phone. Like that's how absurd things got. And
then he had that little rubber room with as you
described it, with all of those kind of like something
out of Jared Leto's joker. Right, I'll tell me that
wasn't exactly right there that you couldn't have seen his
ass sitting on that throne right there. So all of
that and a lot of build up, and even when

(22:39):
the Giants traded up to get Jackson Dart, there was
the shot back to the.

Speaker 1 (22:43):
Spot the Sanders. Hey, so I'll take being right about that.
The Giants were going to trade back into the first
round for quarterback. It was a different quarterback, but I
said twenty five to three didn't on it.

Speaker 3 (22:53):
They said there was gonna be one, and there it was.
It's gonna be an insider. But I will say this
to be to be to be, and take this to
it to a point. I am absolutely shocked, I really
I am. And this is you and I have been
doing this for a long time. We've been in sports
for a long time. There are stunning stories. There are
stories that shock you. But as you do this for
a while, eh, stuff becomes less shocking than it becomes

(23:15):
more whoa jarring for a few minutes, and then you
understand right, just because you do this for a long time.
I am shocked that he fell all the way through
the first round. I am stunned that he did not
get taken. That the fall didn't stop at nine, didn't
stop somewhere at fifteen with someone trading up, didn't stop
with the Steelers twenty one, didn't stop with anybody coming
back into the first round to get him. I am

(23:37):
stunned that this is a guy that is that good.
How whatever you feel about him? Oh maybe he's not.
Is he not one of the top two picks?

Speaker 1 (23:45):
Okay, but now it's like someone's gonna get an absolute
bargain with Shadoor Sanders early in the second round. Maybe
now it's the Browns. We're gonna say, hey, look at us, man,
we're winning. We did we made the big trade. We
got this. We're gonna get our quarterback. Like Shador Sanders
is really good. And I know that people get caught
up in Minutia and teams were afraid to pick him.

(24:05):
You get turned off by whatever happens in the interviews.
You look at tape, you wonder how good he really is.
When a quarterback's got to be a gut feel and
we've watched him all the things we've said about him
for the past couple of years. He's tough, he delivers
the ball, he's got confidence. There's other stuff you don't like.
I understand. So maybe that prevents you from going number
one or number two, But to prevent you from going

(24:26):
in the first round, yeah, I think it's personal a
little bit. And I you know, Dion's right when he says, hey,
you know, if his name wasn't Sanders, it wouldn't happen.
If his name was Manning, he'd be going number one overall.
I understand that. But that's finely good.

Speaker 3 (24:38):
I mean, it's track record when you look at the
mannings and look, Arch still has a lot to prove. Right,
we can put him on all the mock drafts all
we want for two years from now. Guess what if
he sucks, They're not drafting He's not gonna be number
one just because this surname's Manning. But the fact that
you know, Archie was a damn fine player on a

(24:59):
terrible team and got bludgeted for years, and then Peyton
became what he did and Eli for allss halts. He's
a Hall of Famer, just a matter of when, right,
a couple of Super Bowls, you move on. So, yeah,
there's some trust there, and one of the things being
the surname of Sanders. Though he's never been coached by
anybody other than Dion, Yeah, which doesn't help.

Speaker 1 (25:18):
Right.

Speaker 3 (25:18):
We've talked about it from youth sports, you know, in perspective,
you know, as you were coaching your daughter whatever, it
was something you were concerned about and something we've certainly
watched other friends, family members have to deal with at
some points. Understand, there's the brains that hand. So since
he's now finishing college and hasn't had that, you know,

(25:39):
it becomes the all right who and with Dion being
the invisible hand. As much as you can say he's
hands off, he's not.

Speaker 1 (25:46):
No, he's not.

Speaker 3 (25:47):
There's still the tentacles, which means you've got to have
a coach who's willing to deal with whatever that is.

Speaker 1 (25:54):
It's drafting, it's drafting. Lonzo Ball knowing that. Okay, LeVar
Ball came with it, and look what happened. And the
people see this, they see the recent history in sports
and okay, we did that. Is it worth it? Is
it not? But now he's a bargain, right, that's the thing. Now,
Shador Sanders is a bargain because now he's a first
round talent, a top first round talent. Look the the

(26:15):
the analysts don't have it wrong. Again, it does seem
a little personal because I've never seen criticism so over
the top about how we don't like this guy, which
I'm like, Okay, you know.

Speaker 3 (26:24):
What, Really, everybody loved Baker Mayfield and a swagger, really
loved it, loved it, loved Yes, some teams loved it.
I'm sure, I'm sure some teams hated it.

Speaker 1 (26:31):
I'm sure some teams didn't like the swagger other guys,
because we've heard stories of.

Speaker 3 (26:34):
Other guys back to the other guys. We talked about
it with a little bit yesterday, and something we we've
broached a few times over the last month is that
how much of that becomes the interviewer. I can't tell
you how to feel right if I'm answering a question
you can decide I'm either confident or now I'm talking
down to you, or I'm you know, not respecting you.

(26:57):
Right that how you feel about something, tone, verbiage, choice,
whatever is is on you as much as it. I mean, look,
I should you know the the niceties of it all. Sure,
you go through it, but in the end, I can't
tell you how you feel. And that's part of what
I think with Shador Sanders and with other players, I'm

(27:17):
always curious. I'd love to be a fly on the wall, right,
what was that exchange like and how much was you
decided to read into something that really wasn't.

Speaker 1 (27:25):
There or might have been there a little bit.

Speaker 3 (27:28):
But it's exacerbated by your own situation, right, because it
wasn't like there were three guys that came out.

Speaker 1 (27:34):
There was a few teams that said that. You don't
know if part of it is the strategy of I
really don't want to go to this team, so I'm
going to put this out there. But when enough of
that gets out there, you know it's not just a
one off. It's a thing. And let we talked about
it last night. It's a job interview and you're trying
to sell yourself and you don't want people to not
give you a job. And that's kind of what happened.
Teams said, Okay, we're not ready to give you, We're
not ready to turn our franchise over you for a

(27:56):
first repick.

Speaker 3 (27:57):
Now, I mean unless you and you really don't want
to go back to work, but you got to check
a box and get someone to sign it.

Speaker 1 (28:02):
But now second round, the Browns, Okay, now see now
you'll know if the Browns are tanking or not. If
they take Shadora Sanders in the early party, you'll know
if they're tanking. We're staying away. It's okay, what are
you really gonna do? But I mean that's the whole
thing is that it's it's it's gone from he's overrated
to now he's a bargain And it really it shows
you that teams can get well too caught up in

(28:23):
themselves when it comes to evaluating a guy, and you
need that that that minute to step back and say,
are we really evaluating him the right way? Are we
really looking at him the right way? Too? Right?

Speaker 3 (28:33):
I mean we we watched it throughout the rounds like
all right, guy with injury issues. A couple of guys
that have some some red letters in the the personnel
file of of things they've done off the field and
and things buzzing around them there. And but if, because
if you get it wrong with the quarterback, especially with
the surname of Sanders in this case, yeah, you're the

(28:56):
guy that's probably being shown the door. So you go
with these safer pick you know, you take the double
instead of swinging for the home run.

Speaker 2 (29:04):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 1 (29:15):
Now, we'll get back into the NFL in a minute,
but just to let you know what's happening right now
in the Marquee NBA Game of the night, there's about
six minutes to go in the fourth quarter, so still
a lot of basketball left to play. The t Wolves
lead the Lakers one hundred to ninety nine. All right,
this has been a huge day Minnesota.

Speaker 3 (29:35):
Anthony Edwards has twenty two, McDaniels has twenty four, Devincenzo
has a couple of threes.

Speaker 1 (29:41):
He's got ten off the bench. But Lebron James with
thirty five tonight, ten rebounds, four assists and two steals.
Is doing this all by himself. You heard Steve Disager
bring us a report earlier Luka Doncic suffering from illness.
This is clearly not the same Luca out there tonight.

(30:03):
He's five out of fifteen from the floor. He even
looks a step slower in then that, which is something
for Luca, did you But this is what Lebron is doing.

Speaker 3 (30:12):
He is doing it all by himself. Now another three
for Lebron, make it thirty eight, ten and four. And
this is even though right now here we're sitting right
still again, still five and a half minutes left to go.
The t Wolves have the lead by three, and you
know they could be going up to one.

Speaker 1 (30:30):
They won. They split the first two games in La.
This is another thing we told you that is the
big beneficiary of getting Luka donci for the Lakers. I'm
gonna go way back to when the Lakers made the
trade for Luca, and what did I say the best
thing about the playoffs was going to be for Lebron?
Right here? Hey, how's Lebron gonna share the court and

(30:50):
all of the attention with Luca? Luca's going to be
the number one guy. At Lebron's never not been the
number one guy. And what did we tell you back then? Hey,
Lebron's wanted to play with Luca his whole career, right,
Lebron knows, Hey, I'm forty years old, I'm near in
the end, Lucas twenty five, I get it. He is
eminently okay with Luca getting the spotlight. Right, they trade

(31:12):
for Luca, Luca plays regular season, Everything is great. When
did we tell you Lebron was going to say, Okay,
just to give you all a reminder, this is really
my team right as a way to do it on
the floor, it was gonna be in the playoffs. Hey, Luca,
you're great.

Speaker 3 (31:27):
We'll rely on you, but when we need it, wait
till you see what I could still do, because I'm
gonna remind you pretty often in the playoffs that this
is still the guy. I end that I'm forty years
old and I can go thirty eight ten, four and
two with still half of the fourth quarter left to
go when the final result is written on this game,

(31:48):
that it's gonna be. Wow, look at Lebron, Look at
what he can still do. So he's okay, and that's
why this works. Hey, I'm okay with Luca getting a
lot of the limelight and the attention.

Speaker 1 (31:57):
That's great, that's great. He helps us win, he's great.
It's awesome. The way they play together, the chemistry that
Lebron and Luca have is great. But when it comes
to it in the playoffs, I'm gonna show you. Hey,
remember this.

Speaker 3 (32:08):
Is who I am, and that's exactly what has been
happening so far, and it's exactly what's happening to now Jayson.
The other thing to all of this is there's no downside.
It's the first time in Lebron James' life to where
its success or failure is not on him. He's second
on the depth chart. It is all about seventy seven
and what he does game the game. Lebron's a co

(32:33):
pilot and all of this.

Speaker 1 (32:35):
Yeah, but now he's becoming the pope. No, no, no.

Speaker 3 (32:37):
But from the larger perception side, we're not doing the
Lebron legacy nonsense this year. Now it's all about whether
Luca and Nico and everything else that's in the foreground,
that's everything we're paying attention to. Lebron just gets to
go to work. It's gotta be the greatest, most freeing
experience of his life. Yeah, I don't know that he's

(32:59):
gets to go to work as much as Hey, I'll
let Tom Hanks be the captain for a while, but
then when it when he really then I'm the one
that comes in and says, I'm the captain now, right, No, No,
that's fine, Lebron, Hey, I'm the captain now.

Speaker 1 (33:12):
Okay.

Speaker 3 (33:12):
Yeah, maybe I'm maybe I'm not making myself clear. He
can do what he wants on the court, I'm saying
from the outside looking in, whether he scores thirty eight
or twelve, it's all about what Luca does right now
in the larger narrative of the NBA playoffs, right because
the trade was because he was gonna be lazy and
inefficient on defense and he's going to somehow choke it away.

(33:37):
So now everybody's waiting with baited breath.

Speaker 1 (33:39):
Is the go right?

Speaker 3 (33:40):
Was he or do we continue to hate him? On
a whole other level, the Lebron oxygen isn't there.

Speaker 1 (33:48):
It's it's a case of for Lebri it's a different
it's a different atmosphere. Right when it was Lebron and Ad.
It was always well, hey, you know, yeah, both of
these guys, and Hey could really be the one and
he should be the one, and Lebron is ready to
seede to him because he's that talented. But it never
really never really manifested itself played out the way. It

(34:08):
was still well, if they lose, it's Lebron's fault. Okay, great,
now when.

Speaker 3 (34:11):
You play here, to think about it, it would be, Hey,
Luca shows up and let's just, you know, just to
back off it a little bit here, because I still
think it's gonna be Lebron.

Speaker 1 (34:21):
Is that if this Lakers series ends with a loss, right,
is Luca gonna get the blame or is it gonna
be Well, it's Luca's first series, first playoff with the Lakers.
He's still trying to figure out what it is where
he fits leading the team. It was invaluable experience for him.
Look at what Luca god coming in, learning what it's
like to put on the purple and gold arm and

(34:41):
be a Laker. Lebron Lebron should have won. Lebron should
Lebron should have won. When it comes to the playoffs,
it's still gonna be Lebron. It's still gonna come down
to it's Lebron's fault. They win or they lose. And
that's why he knows.

Speaker 3 (34:53):
In the playoffs, this is where I reassert myself that
I'm the true number one on this team.

Speaker 1 (34:58):
Just like stuff.

Speaker 3 (35:00):
There's plenty of folks in the media that I'll do
a lot of crying for him one way or the other.

Speaker 4 (35:06):
Hi, guys, sanderssa, Oh, what can you imagine if you
go back to what would you say back to?

Speaker 3 (35:21):
Uh, you can't, can't go back more than a year.
If you go back to before the NBA draft last year,
where Shador Sanders is coming off of that that that
phenomenal last.

Speaker 1 (35:31):
Year, and he would say, Okay, what do I tell you?
And the odds that in a year Bronnie James gets
drafted and Shador Sanders does it? Like, what kind of
odds would I have gotten advent second round? Really?

Speaker 3 (35:42):
I mean really, who who would get drafted earlier in
the draft?

Speaker 1 (35:46):
Bronnie James or out? Come on?

Speaker 3 (35:49):
Give me, I'm not I'll give you whatever you want
on that whatever, like the Todd Ferman line, Smith, I'll
give whatever line you want.

Speaker 1 (35:54):
I'll give you whatever you want on that one now,
whatever you want.

Speaker 3 (35:56):
You want a million to one, you want five, I'll
give you that five million one whatever you want. Some
next level stuff right now though, And I know we're
talking to NBA, so I'm not gonna go back into
the court. But yeah, I mean we got hockey action,
we got NBA action, we got schemes and Yamamoto. We're
now deep into the game, we're into the seventh so man,

(36:16):
we got a lot We're jugging a lot of stuff here.

Speaker 1 (36:20):
But that is what is happening right now. That is
one hundred percent what's going on right now.

Speaker 3 (36:25):
Well, the fact that we're talking about Luca having problems
with this digestive track today, yeah means hey, Lebron, wait,
we're gonna we're gonna need a little more from you.
I mean, I know Ruy's got the mask in all,
but we're gonna need some more from you. Uh.

Speaker 2 (36:43):
You know.

Speaker 1 (36:43):
The one thing I've seen tonight, you know that's been
a big uh. I would say commonplace over the course
of the games we're watching tonight is the physicality of
certain teams like the Orlando Magic, who I think got
called for what eleven flagrant foul tonight in the game
against the Celtics. Right, how physical they are with Boston saying, hey,

(37:04):
we're gonna try to push you around it at work.
They won the game tonight. How physical and how in
your face the t Wolves are being tonight. It's more
of a Hey, the Lakers over corrected after game one,
and now the t Wolves are over correcting after game two.
So the physicality that we're seeing throughout some of the
teams tonight, who needed to send a message that's been
a big thing. And again in these two games I

(37:25):
just mentioned there. I mean, yeah, one hundred percent. You
can see the t Wolves are a different team from
last game. And you see so where the Orlando match
night they were different than last game.

Speaker 3 (37:32):
I gotta love the the fact that we've got some
play playoff, the throwback.

Speaker 1 (37:37):
Kind of games going on.

Speaker 3 (37:38):
Right, everybody wanted that physicality, saying too soft. Everybody loves
each other sometimes not so much.

Speaker 1 (37:44):
Has the NBA gave in the Pistons the game back yet, No,
they have They Gaven did you say, Gavin, did you
really given he gots.

Speaker 3 (37:55):
No, No, because they almost gave it to him illegally
last night.

Speaker 1 (37:59):
By seeing all he cross mid court. You didn't know
they didn't get the rebound.

Speaker 3 (38:03):
Here you go inbound with five five tens for a second,
they explained why markets zero. He didn't have control of
the basketball, so they did. That's why they didn't call it. Instead,
they decided to make it up.

Speaker 1 (38:16):
For him on the court and go, oh, we'll give
you the basketball for a side out with half a
second left to go, even though the game should have
been over. Well on the plus side, I mean that
triple play went your way, so I mean it really
they balance in the force. The triple play did not
go my way. So we'll have more on the shud
Or Sanders aspect of things coming up later on again.
Undrafted tonight, but another quarterback big in the news today

(38:38):
because we saw this and look, they made all kinds
of headlines last night in the draft by drafting Jackson Dart.
The Giants came out today and Joe Shane said, Russell
Wilson is our starter. Right We're gonna stop this right now,
Russell Wilson is our starter. And I'm gonna come out
and I'm gonna say yeah, and then I'm gonna.

Speaker 3 (38:56):
Give you all.

Speaker 1 (38:58):
A little bit to Dolores Umbridge from Harry Potter five
for now. For now, Yes, Russell Wilson's the starter, but
Jackson Dart is drafted in the first round. The Giants
drafted into the first round to get him. It's different
from the Packers drafting Jordan Love to light a fire
under Aaron Rodgers, who is still an elite player. Because

(39:21):
best case scenario was exactly what we saw. Hey, they
got two MVP seasons out of Aaron Rodgers. They got
rid of him at the right time. Now they have
their own quarterback who's a franchise quarterback. But when you
draft a guy and you move up to get him
in the first round, he has to play, especially in
New York. So Russell Wilson, he's gonna start. This is

(39:41):
how the season's gonna go. He will start out the starter.
He will begin the season under center, and he'll get
a month ish to prove that he can still start.
This is not gonna be Mike Tomlins saying, no matter
what I see, Russ, you're my guy, because you know,
I don't know what I'm doing a quarterback, So no
matter what I see, you're my guy. Now, this is
gonna be after a month if Wilson's playing well. Hey,

(40:01):
things are going well. We'll keep going right that. We
don't care, we don't care what plays. It's okay, Jackson
Dart can still sit and learn. But he's gonna get
a month and if he's not playing well, if the
Giants aren't playing well, and they probably won't be because
the Giants eat a quarterback and they're gonna be terrible
this year. What are the lowest odds in the NFL
to reach a super Bowl? Jackson Dart will start sometime

(40:22):
in early October. Right, the worst lie teams tell themselves
is that this guy is not gonna play this year. Okay,
what do we hear last year? Michael Pennix is not
playing this year? Yeah, Okay, he's gonna start by the
middle of the season. We told we were the show
that told you everybody else. No, no, no, you got
he's gonna play by the middle ish part of the
season because they draft him in the top ten. Quarterbacks

(40:42):
don't sit that way.

Speaker 3 (40:43):
Well, if Kirk didn't go one touchdown, nine interceptions, six.

Speaker 1 (40:49):
The field, he wound up sicked, he wound up We
told you, we told you it was gonna happen, and
it's right. Guys draft in the first round have to play,
and he's going to play because Russell Wilson is near
the end. He has been signed to be a caretaker
quarterback to get you to the next guy, no matter
what he thinks his career is at, no matter where
he's at, and high knees at thirty thousand feet not happening, right,

(41:10):
So he's gonna play quarter If the Giants start out
great and he plays great, he'll keep the job. But
the minute they go into a two to three game
slump and they're not winning, and suddenly Russell Wilson's weekly
stats are one hundred and seventy nine yards passing and
a touchdown and a pick. Guess what, Jackson Dart's coming
in and playing. That's just how it's gonna go. You
don't keep that guy on the bench. I remember when

(41:30):
the Giants drafted Daniel Jones and Gettleman said, yeah, he
might not see the field for us for three years, Like, dude,
you should be fired just for that because you know
that's not happening.

Speaker 3 (41:42):
And Daniel Choch started right away. So I mean that's
how it's gonna go. Yes, Wilson will start Jackson Dart
will be the second guy starting, second quarterback starting in
the NFL this year, because obviously cam Ward will come
in and start right away, and then Jackson Dart will
get a job. He with the next rookie starting a
quarterback this year. Yeah, as soon as Brian Bible sees
his job evaporating like the Fano snap and you're turning

(42:06):
to dust.

Speaker 1 (42:07):
Oh, mother, gotta go to him, Gotta go to him.
There's not nothing else I could do.

Speaker 3 (42:12):
We have to do it.

Speaker 1 (42:13):
We have to do it. That made you not even
give it, jamis a chance. How dare you
