Ever give us you're listening to Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 1 (00:29):
Greetings, Welcome inside final hour tonight the Jason Smith Show
with my bas friend Mike Harmon, live from the Fox
Sports Radio studios, where we just saw the end of
the season for the Los Angeles Lakers, third seed NBA
title contender, and instead this season ends in abject failure

(00:53):
for the Lakers. T Wolves win it one oh three
ninety six, and there's three big points to make in
this game, you know, coming off here the tea Wolves
winning it number one.

Speaker 3 (01:03):
Is this it's an epic fail.

Speaker 1 (01:06):
Like I said, all the different whatever phrases you want
to use, this season has become a failure for the Lakers.
Going all in getting Luca Dacis at the deadline. Hey,
everything looks wonderful. We have a big three. We're feeling
really really good. And then what do you see a
lack of urgency from the team from time to time
throughout the regular season and in the playoffs, And you

(01:28):
saw a lack of urgency to start the game for
the Lakers when the t Wolves got out to a
big start, when this should have been the Lakers out
eleven to two, because that's what happens in game fives
at home, when teams with pride say enough is enough,
We're sending this thing back for game six. Instead, it
was the Lakers trying to feel their way into the game.
They never really took control. They led by a point,

(01:48):
they led by a couple of points once and that
was it. And the t Wolves can win this game
where they shoot seven for forty seven from three point
range and DJ clearly seven to forty seven not the
flight the Lakers want to be on. Anthony Edwards is
zero for eleven from three point range, seven for forty

(02:09):
seven from behind the arc for the game. And still
it's not like the team Wolves winning a buzzer beater.
They win making their free throws down the stretch, and
they walk off into the next round of the playoffs.
One oh three ninety six and add this season has
become has gone in a week. It's gone from potential
and look at how great we're gonna be for the
next five seven years, and it's become a failure because

(02:31):
you can't you can't cut it any other way.

Speaker 4 (02:33):
That's what this is now for La Absolutely pathetic to
go out this way. You look at the fourth quarter,
magic was added again minus six today for the series,
Jason Smith minus forty two, minus forty two out rebounding.
Look look at the Rudy Gobert statline tonight, Yeah, twice
twenty more.

Speaker 3 (02:51):
We'll get to h we'll get to the legacy game
for Rudy Gobet.

Speaker 4 (02:54):
But in full, they give up eighteen offensive rebounds to
the Timberwolves tonight they were out rebuted by seventeen all right, turnovers,
a bunch of other stuff. Gotta go to play. You
brought up the woeful shooting from three point range. T
Wolves also missed nine free throws. Like they did everything
they could, they didn't play. They give you an opportunity

(03:16):
to come and take this game, which the Lakers, at
least for a moment, looked like they were going.

Speaker 3 (03:20):
To started to flow a little bit.

Speaker 4 (03:22):
You actually got some substitutions in there part of it
because of some health concerns. Luca left for a minute,
Lebron left for a minute and then came back and
with Spry and whatever. But all all told, the fourth
quarter is just a tale of misery. We talk about
horror movies and going to see horror movies all the time.
Just click together all the fourth quarters. I want to

(03:44):
do a clockwork Gors with JJ Reddick tape his eyes open.
It said, watch this crap with me. The Wolves win
this game, and they play badly. Their bench, okay, their
entire bench, seven for twenty eight from the floor, their
entire bench, and they played like you know what. Eveno
played thirty two minutes, We played twenty one minutes. Alexander
Walker played twenty five minutes.

Speaker 1 (04:04):
They chucked up twenty one to three pointers between them.
I mean, Alexander Walker, you don't win a game like this.
This is a game where okay, we go back and
try to close them out. And that's why this is
such an abject failure for the Lakers. This should be
a game they should have just walked in and won,
and they tried to walk in and win instead of
playing without a big sense of urgency to begin with.

(04:25):
Like like, I watched them play and I just said,
they are so far from being the top of the
Western Conference. They are so far this is not where
Oh next year with more more time for Luca and Lebron.
Luca and Lebron had a pretty good partnership from the beginning.
There was not a lot of buying in and figuring
things out and figuring out the offense and figuring out
who's gonna play Where Luca was Luca pretty much right away.

(04:48):
Lebron had been terrific and look at where they are now,
bounced in the first round of the playoffs by a younger,
more athletic Timberwolves team that again wins when they play
absolutely craptastic.

Speaker 4 (04:58):
Well, here you have a good game from Ruy Hachimura.
Thirty nine minutes played. He goes nine of sixteen to
five of eight from three, but defensively had so many lapses,
so many easy put back situations, again owing to the
offensive glass. It was a lot of tapouts back to
the three point shooters, not that they necessarily hit the

(05:19):
next one, but extended possessions, extended heavy minutes of rotation
and chasing because one thing the Wolves did well it
doesn't show up in the box scores. They moved the
ball around well, so you had the Lakers chasing. So
we always joked about weary minutes back in the day.
I remember Rick Buker coining the Lebron minutes phase of

(05:42):
how many seconds can you steal in a possession where
you're standing flat footed? They tried, they could not do
that against this Timberwolve squad Tonight kept them moving and
it got ugly. I mean, they will give up forty
more points in the second half. Right, shooting percentage was abysmal,
and they left the door wide open after taking a
ten point lead into halftime for the Lakers to come

(06:05):
get it. And even with Luca, and even with Lebron,
and I know we're gonna hear a lot of the Devincenzo.
He ran into him, here, he hit him there, you
still played, right. It's like the Luca sick game the
other day. You still played Okay. I can only excuse
it so much. If you're that bad off, sit down,
someone else in your rotation has to take up some

(06:26):
of those shots in minutes. And if they can't, you
have a flawed roster. So congratulations Rob Polenka on your
contract extension. JJ Reddick, congratulations on a job done. Get
back to work.

Speaker 1 (06:41):
We'll hear from Reddick coming up in a few minutes,
about to hit the podium to meet the media. Maybe
he's gonna insult Peepe. Maybe he's gonna insult me, Maybe
insults the guy he insulted before the game.

Speaker 3 (06:49):
I will see.

Speaker 4 (06:50):
Should I tweet out for the Jason Smith?

Speaker 1 (06:57):
Hey, boy, do you think you should have played all
your guys all forty eight minutes, all your starters?

Speaker 3 (07:01):
Do you think that would have worked? Did that have helped?
I'm sorry? Did I get kicked out of the press?

Speaker 4 (07:05):
I mean you only got four points from your bench
lower points bench in the combined what fifty minutes played.

Speaker 1 (07:12):
Let's talk about two people now, one person who was
right and one person who was having a party.

Speaker 3 (07:17):
Kelse deal with who was right first?

Speaker 5 (07:19):
Me.

Speaker 1 (07:19):
Okay, no, you're neither right nor having a party. Unless
you have a party. That'd be great. I might have
a part. I don't know the.

Speaker 3 (07:26):
Guy who turns out who turned out to be right?

Speaker 1 (07:29):
And this is it's one of those things where I'm
gonna say it and and a Laker fan, they're gonna
want to take a swing at me. Maybe Anthony Davis
was right and the Lakers needed a sent well, maybe.

Speaker 3 (07:42):
He was right, getting honest, basically, see a lot of
the anger flowing particularly center right.

Speaker 1 (07:50):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, you need you need something because
this was a game where the entire Minnesota Timberwolves team.
Again we told you how bad they played except for
their big right, Rudy Gobert and Julius Randall the only
ones that had big games.

Speaker 3 (08:03):
Like you had.

Speaker 1 (08:04):
Anthony Edwards had a nice stat line night, but he
shot five and nineteen oh for eleven from three point range.
But you had Rudy the Rudy go bear game, twenty
seven points and twenty four rebounds. Right, Julius Randall twenty three,
five and four. We've seen him have nights like this
all the time. But twenty seven and twenty four for
Rudy Gobert, who goes twelve and ten. Right, Rudy Gobert

(08:26):
goes twelve and ten. So maybe a d was ready. Hey,
you know what, we kind of dis centered because the
Lakers don't have size, and Rudy gober eliminates the Lakers.

Speaker 3 (08:38):
They looked like Andre the Giant running around Battle Royale.

Speaker 1 (08:41):
I mean, look, this is Rudy Gobert from five years ago.
I mean the Lakers had no answer. I mean, when
you have no answer for Rudy Gobert, where are you
really at?

Speaker 6 (08:50):
Right?

Speaker 1 (08:50):
Do we talk about the combination of the roster where
you where Gobert is the guy that sends you home?
A lack of intensity, a lack of sense of urgency
to start the game tonight and also lack of urgency
in other games throughout the series, throughout the regular season
and the playoffs. Like you're all you're checking all these
box that. Wow, the Lakers need a lot. I know
it looks like, hey with it with Luca and Lebron

(09:12):
and Austin Reeves. And look, I'll admit I'm the first
guy saying they figured this out. This is the playoffs
where things get going. And and this is where Lebron
steps up and he says, okay, I take the lead
role from Luca a little bit, because this is my time.

Speaker 7 (09:25):
Now.

Speaker 1 (09:25):
It's the playoffs, and instead they're home in five games
in a game where they go home, where the te
Wolves play this kind of game.

Speaker 3 (09:33):
Miles Finch had all those ideas on that.

Speaker 1 (09:36):
Filch book, Miles Finch. Miles Finch, that notebook was key.
Peaches are vulnerable. That's why it's about peaches. They're vulnerable.

Speaker 4 (09:45):
But talk about the interior of the Lakers defense man,
vulnerable possession Tonight.

Speaker 3 (09:53):
I think we should take a thirty thousand dollars bath
on these books. But the children love the books.

Speaker 1 (09:59):
Now, the guy who is the happiest, who is having
a party right now? I guarantee you Scott Shapiro scotch
Wels are the best. So our boss, scotch Pi were
having a party. But the biggest party, and I mean
one of those Vegas, one of those Hey New Year's
Eve rocking with Dick Clark and Ryan Seacrest type. Who's
having that kind of party? Who's having that party? Nico Harrison,

(10:21):
Oh yeah, Nico Harrison is off the hook. I told
you Luca has no stamina. I told you defensively, Luca,
you have to hide him. He can't help you. Look
at what happens. This is what happens, Larry, And right
now he's calling everybody, going, Hey, come on over to

(10:41):
my party.

Speaker 3 (10:42):
Look, I'm right.

Speaker 1 (10:43):
After all, they won as many rounds in the playoffs
as we did.

Speaker 2 (10:46):
I was right.

Speaker 1 (10:47):
Come on over to my party, Tim McMahon, come on, man,
come on, let's go hang out, Let's go have fun.

Speaker 3 (10:52):
Oh see, I was right. I'm available for all kinds
of interviews tomorrow. Call me. I will be answering my phone.
It's from six am. All the Crazy More shows.

Speaker 1 (11:00):
I'll talk to Desperate Dave in the morning, and Eddie,
I'll talk to guys and Elda Montana, I'll talk to
guys in Sue Falls, whoever you call me, I am
ready for my interview.

Speaker 3 (11:10):
That's Nico Harrison. Well, what is funny is it go
back to the day of the train.

Speaker 4 (11:13):
We were talking about him from the yes, the long
term of Luca, whether he's gonna sign there or not.
I mean, it's hundred million dollars that you cost the guy.
I think he would have signed a Supermax. All of
those things you've man now alienated Dirk Novitski. But from
a basketball perspective, I would have liked to see that
iteration of the of what the Mavericks had assembled. We

(11:35):
never got to see that. Right between Ad getting hurt,
Guy re getting hurt, all of those things didn't happen.
But for Nico Harrison, you know, the dumbest guy alive,
Like he did it in a vacuum without ownership, saying
hey do this right. It's it's not just one guy
making this move that no chance in hell. But for him,
he's validated at least in the moment. And you could say,

(11:57):
all right, over ten years, let's see what the track
record is. Guess what show is right now? Scoreboard is
what it is. Nico Harrison's gonna take his victory lap
because down the stretch and the fourth quarter collapses time
it again, right, that's when your guy, your guy or guys.
And this is where I think Lebron's getting a little
more of a pass as I warned you he might

(12:19):
in the grand scale, because it becomes about Luca. Is
that in the fourth quarter again minus forty two, minus
six tonight in a quarter where you held the Timberwolves
to twenty two, you still mustered just sixteen points. Yeah,
it doesn't make sense, right again, abject failure for the
this season has become a failure. And what did I

(12:42):
tell you you were when we were talking about boredom
or whatever? Like, I still think there's some flaws and
certainly you have a lot of trust issues from old
JJ Reddick with the roster that was given to him
by Rob Polinka. And you had two guys that get
no coffee because they sure as hell were not closers
in this. None for you, Doncic and none for you Lebron.

(13:04):
Terrible what and out?

Speaker 1 (13:05):
I mean, where does he right down all time? Lebron?
How far does he fall? There's no, there's no. This
is an absolute failure. This is well although for Lebron,
I will say this, no one person could have accomplished
this by themselves. This is where everybody. Hey, we're gonna
get to everybody here Lebron and you Luca, and you Reddick,
and you Polinka and yeah, and you Austin Reeves. And

(13:27):
you gave Vincent for taking that thirty footer with forty
seconds left in the game.

Speaker 3 (13:31):
Yeah, all of you guys, All you guys.

Speaker 4 (13:34):
JJ, Mike harmon Fox Sports Radio, you had fifty combined
minutes played by your bench tonight. They scored a total
of four points. Do you think you should have used
them so much? And then I would duck?

Speaker 3 (13:46):
Yeah, no, I know. Then they would grab you and
throw you out. That's what happened. Do you think I'd
have a size fourteen?

Speaker 1 (13:53):
There goes hard and there goes Harmon. We're not gonna
here him again. He walked off like he was Costanza,
Why the Sea and went from so much promise, so
much everything, so much we can run the Western Conference
to Wow, look how far away the Lakers.

Speaker 3 (14:07):
I can't wait for the Knicks to hold their beer tomorrow?

Speaker 1 (14:09):
What an a If the Knicks lose tomorrow, We're still playing,
so it's okay, Well the next game too, Yeah, two
years it did. But buddy, just worry about getting Yannis
to the Lakers. Now, okay, that that dou get Yannis
to the Lakers, right, Try to try to get.

Speaker 3 (14:26):
Something exactly what this does, because it exposed.

Speaker 1 (14:28):
Lebron some done some kind of package surrounding Austin Rees
and Ruyama for Yannis only the Lakers got Luca for
this season. Exit out about a Fresca exit swollen do home.
Jason Smith Mike Garvin live from the Fox Sports Radio studios.

Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 1 (16:00):
Fox Sports Radio The Jason Smith Show with my best
friend Mike Harmon. The Minnesota Timberwolves eliminate the Lakers tonight
in the game where the t Wolves played about a
sea game, then okay, if we're going back to clinch
game six, go oh no, no, we're gonna win because
the Lakers played actually worse. We're gonna shoot, so we're
gonna shoot seven for fifty from three point range and

(16:21):
still win this.

Speaker 4 (16:22):
You know, I thought of another winner outside of Nico Harrison.
You know who the biggest winner was web.

Speaker 3 (16:27):
Who could win?

Speaker 7 (16:28):
Who?

Speaker 5 (16:29):
Well?

Speaker 3 (16:30):
Monsei to is well bouncing, he's excited. Yeah, I was gonna.

Speaker 4 (16:38):
I was gonna say the Vegas Casinos a lot of
exposure with Lakers championship, bell.

Speaker 1 (16:46):
Well, and also the Big Losers are shows that can't
talk about anything else other than Lebron and the Lakers
on from that.

Speaker 4 (16:53):
But although I am ready no, especially the sick of
fantic yes, because there will be an excuse maker. I
can't wait to see this. You want to talk about
theater and the absurd excuse making for Lebron.

Speaker 1 (17:04):
But here's but you forgot to know. Because I'm miss failed,
I'm going to move past that because here's where I
can go. Well, we're getting all right. I can already
see a yaar honis to the Lakers centered around Austin Reeves,
Ruey Hachimura and Dorian Finney Smith because the salaries would
match nicely.

Speaker 3 (17:22):
I Lebron too, I can, I mean, what's so funny?

Speaker 4 (17:27):
Yeah?

Speaker 3 (17:28):
Did you not see him play tonight?

Speaker 5 (17:29):
Yeah?

Speaker 8 (17:30):
No, Dron in Milwaukee? That would just look so odd
to Russia for all I care. After Milwaukee, Well, okay.

Speaker 3 (17:40):
We have like three sequences where he played well.

Speaker 4 (17:42):
Otherwise he was anytime he had any contact, he was
falling to the ground.

Speaker 3 (17:47):
Uh, and it was an active master.

Speaker 1 (17:50):
Let's let's be on. Like I said, Yes, this is
not where Lebron was the big film. It's not like
Lebron which was four for twenty five and had a
horrible game. Did Lebron play his best?

Speaker 7 (17:59):
No?

Speaker 3 (17:59):
But I can't sit here and say what Laker had
a great game.

Speaker 1 (18:02):
Austin Reeves, Austin Reeves had a horrendous Here, Lucas shot
terrefall Brook.

Speaker 3 (18:07):
He did, he did, He did get her tonight.

Speaker 1 (18:09):
At least he played with he shot horribly tonight, Right,
He's gotten played like the man, he's got to make
more threes. Lebron was still twenty two, seven and six, right, Lebron,
still Lebron.

Speaker 3 (18:18):
There was a lot of garbage. Was it a great Lebron?

Speaker 2 (18:21):
No.

Speaker 1 (18:21):
But it's not like you can say everybody, wow, everybody
else brought their a game.

Speaker 4 (18:24):
It really was about the mass man. It was all
about Ruey Hachiburg.

Speaker 1 (18:28):
Well right, he shot well, but everybody else like you're
big three? Yeah, not enough fail. I mean, how many
times do we have to watch the Lakers and you
see this a lot?

Speaker 8 (18:37):
Now?

Speaker 1 (18:37):
It's kind of a common thing the last few years,
is that in elimination games or games where where the
fourth quarter comes, it's a close game, how many times
you see them just we're on empty in the fourth quarter.
We just don't whether it's a stamina thing, or it's
an it's an effort thing, or if it's just we're
getting out class thing. How many times in the fourth
quarter games do you see them just have the see

(19:00):
them just fall back from the other team.

Speaker 3 (19:02):
Right, Like with with a team.

Speaker 1 (19:04):
Like this with Lebron and Luca, you should be making
all the big shots at the end of the game.
That should be doing this is what you got, you
guys get paid for and instead you lose. The t
Wolves and nobody outside of Ruty go bearh scores twelve.
A game is a guy making all the shots like
this is how you like? This is a big thing.
That's why when I see tonight's game, I go in
one game. In this game with the te Wolves, the

(19:25):
Lakers went from a team that I said, hey, they're an.

Speaker 3 (19:28):
NBA Finals contender.

Speaker 1 (19:29):
I can see them in the Western Conference Finals and
upset away because they figured things out. And now I
look in every time I think about something from this game,
I go, they just seem so far away. They seem
like they're on Neptune. If the Sun is the Western
Conference Finals, or may make Mercury the West comforter the
Sun to be the NBA Finals. If Mercury is the
Western Conference Final, I mean, they're on Neptune.

Speaker 3 (19:49):
Like they went from Hey.

Speaker 1 (19:50):
We're on Earth. We're not very far we you know,
getting to Mercury. We're gonna get there, okay, but we're
not far. We're no, no, no, hey, We're we're going
down some planets. Now, We're going down Saturn and Jupe
and and and what's after Jupiter and Saturn and Jupiter
we got we got Mars in the middle there too,
so we're going Mars and Saturday.

Speaker 3 (20:08):
I haven't had to build one of those dioramas and along.

Speaker 1 (20:10):
I mean you're like, what was the ad Astro when
they go all the way to Neptune, right, Like it's
like an eight year journey to Neptune to find uh
Tommy Lee Jones, I.

Speaker 3 (20:17):
Think I got about eight minutes into that movie that was.

Speaker 1 (20:21):
That's how far the Lakers are from the Western Conference
finals right now.

Speaker 4 (20:25):
But we talked about it, trying to figure out what
the rotation would be beyond the core. And again, you know,
Austin Reeves did not have a good night Lebron. The
box scorel looked fine, right, and he had a couple
of shots and bursts to things, but overall was not
a cohesive game. We talked about defensively and what they

(20:45):
were able to do and the bad shots or shots selection,
just shots not falling at all. I mean, Monzi brought
it up at one point we were over at seventy
four to three point shots attempted long before things finished. Right,
Just keep shooting and eventually you'll find yourself. No No,
that wasn't gonna happen. But you watched the Lebron flailing,

(21:07):
Luca battled after getting hit by de Vincenzo and gave
it the old college try. But you got no cohesion,
no consistency. You got four points for your bench. No, right,
I mean, so you tried to steal minutes, but they
were useless minutes.

Speaker 1 (21:22):
And there's a lot to say from when you talk
about body language. Okay, is that watch it? Take the
game last night right when I saw the Knicks and
the Pistons, and I said that I saw one team
that came in with confidence, looking to extend a game.
And I saw another team where I said, how do
you come out flat here? Game five? You're ending the
series here tonight, right, You're playing at the most famous
arena in the world.

Speaker 3 (21:42):
You're in it.

Speaker 1 (21:43):
But you see the nixt body language, like, hey, we're
kind of expecting something to happen. Where I watched the
Pistons play in cohesion, playing off one another with a
desire to extend the series, and that's kind of what
I saw tonight, the Tea Wills playing at least with
a desire. We want to send this thing, we.

Speaker 2 (22:01):
Want a thing.

Speaker 1 (22:02):
Right now, we're not playing well, and they didn't play
well at all. But I still saw more of the
desire where the Lakers kind of just kind of sit
around and wait for something to happen, like wait for
Luca and Lebron to start hitting wide open threes or
running up and down the floor. I don't see that.
I don't see that roster of Hey, this really flows
well together. And sometimes it's about effort, sometimes it's about buying,

(22:24):
like all of these things. And again more evidence when
I see the Lakers there, maybe they're past Neptune. Now,
maybe they're past Uranus. Maybe they're in another galaxy. There,
they're in the Andromeda galaxy. It's gonna swallow us all
in a few million years. I mean, maybe that's where
the lake. Like every time I see this and I
think about something like, I go, wow, that's even further
away and further away and further away.

Speaker 4 (22:43):
But here was your your best shot, right with with
Lebron James, whatever the long term plan is, and roster building,
whatever you can do with Luka Dancics. Yet there were
huge expectations here, right They did not get quelled at
any point, you know, Bronze age and breaking. No, he
was available, right, So it wasn't a all right, he's

(23:05):
really banged up, he's missing a substantive time. No, he
was available to you. He played for full forty minutes
again tonight.

Speaker 3 (23:14):
Right. You didn't have much ear like.

Speaker 1 (23:16):
Buddy, enough about full forty minutes a full four exactly.

Speaker 3 (23:19):
You didn't get contributions from your bench. Vanderbilt.

Speaker 4 (23:22):
Yeah, seven boards and gave Vincent was a plus five,
so good for him.

Speaker 3 (23:26):
But all of that to say, JJ Reddick.

Speaker 4 (23:29):
When it came down to crunch time, all he could
say was, what do you guys got? That's about as
much of a motivational speech as he and his staff,
because I got to make sure to include the staff
otherwise he's gonna get mad at me that you're able
to muster. In this regard, t Wolves played, as you said,
a C game maybe except for Rudy Gobert. McDaniels was

(23:54):
harassing on defense, offensively, falls well short of his normal
averages and falls out early, but he was at least
a gnat in that regard.

Speaker 3 (24:04):
You saw the other.

Speaker 4 (24:06):
Normal contributors in terms of long distance shooting struggled, so
they left the door open for the Lakers and the
veteran acumen. Luca's been in the league a while now,
so he's in that crafty veteran phase, maybe at the
beginning of it at twenty five twenty six years old.
But for Lebron to not be able to slow things
down and make some hay and make make the Tea

(24:29):
Wolves pay for doubling down right, that you didn't have
that shooter that could spot up or a big man
that could try to force Gobar off the boards again
eighteen offensive rebounds that number and Mark Williams putting up
a smiley face emoji. I would have held that up
to JJ Redick in his press conference as well.

Speaker 3 (24:48):
Hey, what do you think of this?

Speaker 1 (24:50):
Speaking of JJ Redick, he has just finished his press conference.
Let's take a listen to see what the Lakers said
coach had to say after their elimination.

Speaker 5 (24:57):
For this game, specifically, that fourth quarter did seem to
come go what's previous ones?

Speaker 1 (25:01):
Head?

Speaker 5 (25:01):
How did you see that happen? And what we're trying
to get going offensively in the fourth.

Speaker 9 (25:05):
We executed grade in the fourth quarter.

Speaker 1 (25:07):
Wait, wait, so for one second, that sounded like JJ
Riddick was asking a question of himself. Those voices are
exactly the same. But who's the kidding with my tradell
asking the question that's pretty good? How many phone books?

Speaker 3 (25:21):
Exactly? It sounds like JJ Reddick asking JJ Riddick was
all right, let's go back to it. Go back to it.

Speaker 5 (25:26):
For this game specifically, that fourth quarter did seem to
kind of go as previous ones. Head, how did you
see that happen? And what we're trying to get going
offensively in the fourth.

Speaker 9 (25:34):
We executed grade in the fourth quarter. This shots game,
you watch them, just a bunch of threes. Shot twelve
to fifty two for the series in the fourth quarter
from three.

Speaker 2 (25:47):
On top of that, you.

Speaker 9 (25:50):
You lose two games in Minnesota minus twelve and scoring
opportunities minus thirteen, and then you lose by twenty to night.
You know, just too many turnovers, too many offensive rebounds,
and you know, I I think given the struggles scoring
the ball, particularly early in the series, you know, the

(26:14):
there's a trade off. There's always a trade off. You
could you play play a center, we couldn't score, So
there's a trade off to everything with this. But we
you know, we obviously put ourselves in a position to
be in the Game four, you know, three times in
the fourth quarter and and just came up short every time.

(26:36):
But you know, again, the offensive part of it tonight
in particular, was we I mean, we missed, we missed
wide open threes. We we missed a couple of shots
at the rim. We got good looks.

Speaker 2 (26:52):
All right.

Speaker 1 (26:52):
I stopped this down for a second, Jason, at least
the fourth quarter was epic.

Speaker 3 (26:56):
Yeah, you did well. Here's the thing. Here's the thing.

Speaker 1 (26:58):
I kind of want to give him credit because it
sounded like maybe he was being facetious. But when he
said we executed great, and then he talks about all
the shots they didn't make. But then I think at
the end, like does he think like the execution doesn't
like making shots doesn't count execution. It's the executing up
until we actually have to execute.

Speaker 4 (27:19):
I think one hundred percent. I think of one hundred percent.
It's process not result. He's having that disconnected, Like we
did everything right, we just didn't finish the job.

Speaker 3 (27:30):
Here's the thing you didn't execute. That's what you didn't do.
You can't say you did execute right. I did write
a lot of code. If I don't hit enter to
see what it does, it doesn't matter. We executed great.
We just didn't make any shot. No, no, no, that's all.

Speaker 4 (27:41):
I forgot the closing parentheses, so it didn't run properly.

Speaker 1 (27:46):
That's execution. That that falls under the category of execution. Yeah,
we were credit. Bret Hart is offended.

Speaker 4 (27:52):
We just missing, absolutely offended by jj Reddick's used.

Speaker 1 (27:56):
To the I don't understand because at first I'm like, Okay,
he's making fun if we executed great, because then he goes.

Speaker 3 (28:01):
Oh no, no, he doesn't count.

Speaker 1 (28:03):
And because you know, it's especially difficult because you know,
the NBA is a maker miss league, and you missed
a lot. So that's part of the execution of things.
Now we I let's go back. They were outscored by
forty two. We've hammered on that point.

Speaker 4 (28:17):
Right for fourth quarter total in this series, here's your
fourth quarter totals seventeen, thirteen, twenty. They did break twenty
once back in Game three, nineteen and sixteen. You scored
sixteen points in the fourth quarter tonight of an elimination game.
Yeah that, and you're telling me you executed well, because

(28:38):
I'm with you as we were listening to it, and
it was like it's like Okay, he's being a smart ass.

Speaker 3 (28:45):
Until he wasn't.

Speaker 1 (28:47):
I mean, I I initially that's I said, okay, but
now no, he really is not counting making baskets.

Speaker 4 (28:54):
It's like Kilber on the other day trying to say, well,
we weren't tired. Yeah, no, we missed a bunch of
point playing shots. But I mean, what are you gonna do?

Speaker 1 (29:01):
That's like no, if my wife says to me, Hey,
I need you to do me a favorite, yet, what is it? Hey,
I got a couple of plants I want you to
take over to Lilian's house or our former neighbor that
they talked to all the time.

Speaker 3 (29:12):
Can you take these over that? Yeah?

Speaker 1 (29:13):
Sure, yeah, And I put the plants in the car
and I go shopping, and I go get lunch.

Speaker 3 (29:20):
And I come back and she goes, did you go
to Lilians?

Speaker 1 (29:23):
Oh no, I didn't, man, or maybe you want to
hung out with I executed.

Speaker 3 (29:27):
I executed. What'd you do?

Speaker 1 (29:29):
I got in the car, I drove towards her house,
and then I went shopping and I had lunch and
I came back.

Speaker 3 (29:34):
You didn't drop off the plants?

Speaker 7 (29:35):
No?

Speaker 1 (29:36):
I did everything but that I executed. But I didn't
drop them.

Speaker 3 (29:40):
I mean I got the plants in the car.

Speaker 1 (29:41):
I didn't drop the plants off. That's what I didn't do,
But I executed, Like what kind of that's what kind
of sense is that? That's like money Python logic. If
she weighs more than a duck, then she's a.

Speaker 3 (29:51):
Witch burner burner burner. I ran a marathon. Oh what
was your final time? Why? And finish?

Speaker 1 (29:59):
We can have one more name to the Lakers Bucks
trade for you, honest, Okay, I.

Speaker 3 (30:04):
Got the money. The money's all set with the three
of those. No, no, no, no, we need to add one.

Speaker 1 (30:08):
Okay, Reddick, they're gonna need a coach so he can
beat it. I thought you're gonna say you're throwing browny,
But that just did.

Speaker 4 (30:16):
What you're talking about earlier in the show and grabbed
the podcast. Wherever you go to, the audio will go up.
Justin and Alex, we'll get that up for us as
the show comes to a close. But we talked about
it before. For JJ Reddick, I never saw people bend
over backwards to apologize for doubting him. As the season
went on and they were battling towards the top, like
do you want to.

Speaker 3 (30:36):
Rescind all that.

Speaker 4 (30:38):
I mean, because what we just watched was an epic
fail of monster proportions. Give a little bit to Luca
and give a little bit to Lebron. But your coach
back to back games is Miles Finch. Got him Exit
Abos Finch obviously exitse Fans, don't get mad at me.
Jason Smith, Mike Harmon Life from the Fox Sports Radio

(31:00):
studios time out to find out what's trending in the
wide world of sports from someone who's been called the
Anthony Edwards of Fox Sports Radio. Nice that's because she
didn't make a three to night either.

Speaker 2 (31:10):
I did not.

Speaker 3 (31:11):
It's Monty that I could have.

Speaker 6 (31:13):
I think I would have gone one from eleven, not
zero from one. I would have made one. Okay, get
one and then that's it. Called it a day, kind
of what the Lakers did, call it a day really
early on. I don't understand how Jackson Hayes didn't play
a single minute when Rudy Gobert was having such a
good game. How you did not put in Jackson Hayes

(31:35):
even for a second.

Speaker 2 (31:37):
I get it.

Speaker 6 (31:38):
You ride and die with Lebron and with Luca, but
at some point you had to try something.

Speaker 4 (31:43):
Did he really pop off after not playing in the
second half the other night, Yes, so he was benched
for personal reasons.

Speaker 3 (31:50):
Rights decision.

Speaker 6 (31:52):
It makes no sense, right, It makes no sense. Rudy
Gobert twenty seven points twenty four rebounds, both playoff career
highs for Gobert in the game five. That eliminates Lakers
from the playoffs. You guys were just talking about, it
wasn't Lake Minnesota played that well. Seven to forty seven
from the three. Anthony Edwards was five of nineteen from
the field, zero of.

Speaker 3 (32:12):
Eleven from the three.

Speaker 6 (32:12):
As we just discussed, he did end with fifteen points,
eleven rebounds and eight assists. Luka Doncic twenty eight point,
seven rebounds, nine assists, and the loss Lebron James twenty
two points, seven rebounds and six assists. The Rockets keep
their season alive with the one thirty one to one
sixteen win over the Warriors. In their Game five, Fred
van Vliet was the leading scorer with twenty six points,
but all five of Houston's starters ended in double digits.

(32:35):
Game six will be on Friday. Atlanta Hawks guard Dyson
Daniels has won the most Improved Player of the Year award.
In the Stanley Cup Playoffs, the Capitals outscored the Canadians
four to one, and the Panthers had a six to
three win over the Lightning. Both Washington and Florida are
headed to the second round. The Jets take a three
to two series lead over the Blues after coming out
on top five to three. In baseball, the Padres outscored

(32:58):
the Giants five to three and win the two game series,
while the Diamondbacks had a ford to three win over
the Mets. The Ooels edge the Yankees five to four.
Aaron Judge did hit a home run number ten on
the season. The Phillies have now won four in a
row after defeating the National seven to two. The Blue
Jays were down six to zero but came back to
defeat the Red Sox seven six and ten innings, and
Lawrence Butler hit a grand Slam in the ninth inning

(33:19):
and the Ace topped the Rangers seven to one. Lastly,
here as you guys started talking about it at the start.
At the start of the hour, Pirates did edge the
Cups forty three. A fan did fall from the twenty
one foot Clemina wall in the right field area of
PNC Park. The fan was tended to for approximately five minutes,
was removed from the field on a car and transported
to the hospital in critical condition. This is according to

(33:42):
Pittsburgh Public Safety's Twitter page.

Speaker 3 (33:45):
Guys, it's been fun. Thanks you. Let's do it again tomorrow.

Speaker 1 (33:48):
We will I rap sent Jason Smith Mike Harmon live
from the Fox Sports Radio studios. Coming up next, we'll
tell you what Lebron said walking out of the locker
room for the last time tonight and tell you about
what could be next. What does Lebron's future hold? Is
it still with the Lakers? That's next? Jason and Mike

(34:09):
Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 3 (34:12):
Did he say I got a full dipe?

Speaker 2 (34:15):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific.

Speaker 1 (34:23):
Fox Sports Radio, The Jason Smith Show with Mike Harmon. Yeah,
what now for Lebron? Lebron James meeting the media moments ago,
still talking right now about his future. Lakers get eliminated
by the Tea Wolves in five and uh Let's take
a listen to see what Lebron has said so far

(34:45):
as he talks about the end of the season for
the Lakers and what could be coming up for.

Speaker 10 (34:49):
Him enter into an off season on a roster that
has look at Datsch, that secured the number three seeds
in the West in a really tough West this year.

Speaker 2 (34:59):
What type of.

Speaker 10 (35:01):
Thoughts does that give you about your end game? And
you know, how many more years will we see you play?

Speaker 7 (35:11):
I don't know. I don't have the answer to that.
It's something I'll sit down with my family, my wife
and my support group and kind of just talk to
it and see what happens, and then they just have
conversations with myself on how long I want to continue
to play. I don't know the answer to that right now,

(35:32):
to be honest.

Speaker 1 (35:33):
So all right, so there's Lebron on his future. I'll
tell you exactly how this is going to play out.
I'll tell you exactly how this plays out for Lebron.
I'll tell you right now, he's coming back next year.
Lebron is a Laker next season. I know, right now
seems really bad and they lost in the first round
and look at this failure and it was absolute epic fail.

(35:54):
But I'll tell you how the Lakers are going to
look at this right, they're gonna let the dust settle,
and Lebron does this all the time.

Speaker 3 (35:58):
I don't know if I want to play.

Speaker 1 (36:00):
We'll make sure what they're gonna do for next year,
and this is the Lakers will come out and they'll say, hey,
we showed really great glimpses at the deadline getting Luca
finishing third. This is a team that, hey, we had
some holes. We made a great, big trade in the
middle of the season with our brand new head coach
who learned a lot. JJ Redick even ended his postgame

(36:22):
press conference by saying, I learned a lot this year.
What they're gonna do is say, we now need to
augment the pieces around them, give them a full season
to play and find the right mix, because clearly the
right mix is not here. You watch the Lakers get
worked by Milwaukee. He's not going to Milwaukee. The Lakers
got worked by Rudy Gobert with the Rudy Gobert Legacy

(36:44):
game twenty seven and twenty four. So the Lakers are
going to say for next year, we're gonna try to
augment around them and see how it goes. Now, if
we're having if it's next year and the Lakers are
out in the first round, that's gonna be the end
of Lebron. But I'll tell you for all the oh,
Lebron's gotta go, Lebron's gonna out. No, Look, I understand
where you're at. He showed I can still play at

(37:05):
a high level. Was he great in the playoff? No,
but none of the Lakers were great. They're gonna look
at it and say, we tried this mix since February, Right,
it's been three months that we've had this team in
this in this situation where people are kind of in
different roles. We added Luka Doncic, it's JJ Reddick, who
we love coaching new you know, coaching a new mix

(37:25):
of players. Let's see how this goes for a year
where we tweaked the roster around, because that's gonna be
the easier thing to do, is tweaking the roster around them.
Maybe it's not Ruey Hachamra, maybe it's Hatchamro and Dorian
Phinney Smith for a center. They need to do something
because this roster clearly did not have enough around it now.
So they will say okay next year for one full year,

(37:47):
and then after next year. It's okay, Luca, Hey, we're
out in the first round again. Can you win with Lebron?
Can you win with Lebron? Because we're we're gonna all
the stuff drafting Brony, going to the links they went through.
This is how the Lakers are gonna look at the offseason.
That's how what's going to go for next year.

Speaker 4 (38:01):
Yeah, and their first round pick from this year didn't
really see the court a whole lot either, Right, don't
connect as a big mystery for them, A guy that
you expected to come in and give them some offensive
contribution with some continuity and consistency, and you didn't. And
it owes to the heavy minutes that you're playing with
Lebron and with Luca, his conditioning and all of those

(38:24):
narratives will flow now into the off season because of
this early exit and how catastrophically poorly as a team
they played in the fourth quarter. But for JJ Reddick, yeah,
there's a lot of learning to be done here. You know,
we talked about it with Monsey. You know, Jackson Hayes
doesn't get off the bench, right, He played poorly in
his minutes last time out, but then didn't see the

(38:47):
floor at all in the second half and was rele
was exiled to sitting this one out all together. So
you've got a full roster that you need to reboot.
But you had plenty of time and plenty of games.
And I know Lebron missed that week that he took
off because he wasn't playing any of the back to
backs and the difficult schedule they had.

Speaker 3 (39:08):
Okay, that's fine.

Speaker 4 (39:09):
That meant his body should have been restored and ready
to go right and down the stretch. He didn't have
any He wasn't able to put on any Superman cape
or any of that stuff that you were expecting. He
looked like a guy with the exception of one or
two flash moments and for Luca having to play forty minutes.
So you need to steal more minutes during the regular season, certainly,

(39:30):
but come playoff time, Yeah, you need a deeper bench,
a deeper rotation, and that you trust that you're not
gonna be able to be talked out of, whether it's
your assistant coaches or Lebron himself saying we got this,
because clearly they didn't.

Speaker 3 (39:44):
Rudy Gobert went and dominated Mark Williams. Yeah, the guy
from the trade.

Speaker 4 (39:47):
He did a smiley face on Twitter and then he
put that guy that shows up with the shades and.

Speaker 3 (39:51):
The suit at the funeral for the Lakers.

Speaker 1 (39:53):
Right, Look, are you going to reload outside of Lebron
and have a divorce Lebron and bring in somebody else
for next year with Luca? You're not, No, You'll bring
in yell you. Look if they go it's to I
know they didn't, but they're not gonna blow it up
and and Lebron. And let's look, because they're gonna say,

(40:14):
let's give Luca and Lebron another year to play it again.

Speaker 3 (40:17):
Let's work. It worked from February to April, but that
didn't matter. But it's not the play Judge.

Speaker 1 (40:24):
I'm not telling you. I'm not telling you what you're
feeling isn't right. I'm telling you how the Lakers are
looking at this, and that's what's gonna happen. I'm telling
you the future. You could disagree with it, but I'm
telling you the future. That's how we're going. Of course,
they could use Giannis, but the Knicks are gonna get you. Honest,
We're gonna try gonna trade Mickel Bridges for him. That's

(40:44):
how it's gonna go. Hey, you want mccal bridges, I'll
give you Mickel Bridges. Give us Luca.

Speaker 4 (40:48):
I don't know what to say about the coaching staff
last night.

Speaker 3 (40:52):
I think Bridges well again.

Speaker 1 (40:55):
You may not like the future, but that's how it's going.
