Please give you're listening to Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 1 (00:29):
Hello, Welcome in Side Hour too, The Jason Smith Show
with my best friend Mike Harmon. Oklahoma City leads the
Tea Wolves by fifteen five and a half left to
go in the fourth quarter. Oklahoma City looking to take
a two games to none lead in the Western Conference Finals.
It has been an absolutely huge night for SGA. Who again,
(00:53):
why did I pick the thunder to win? Why did
I pick the beginning of the playoffs?
Speaker 3 (00:56):
What have I said?
Speaker 1 (00:57):
I know he is going to consistently give me super
star performances, even when he has difficulty get into the
rim getting a shot off, and tonight he's doing it
from the free throw line, He's doing it from the floor.
Thirty four points and six assists. Timberl's making a little
bit of a run right here to start the fourth quarter,
but it is still a fifteen point lead for the Thunder.
(01:18):
As I get to this reality, Mike Harmon and this
is what okay, again, not great today after last night.
Speaker 3 (01:26):
Not great yet. It's still not great. Man's still not great.
Speaker 1 (01:28):
But you know, you watch the Thunder play and they
have been the one big seed team so far to
watch where you say, yeah, they've had really no difficulty,
Like they win seven games with the Nuggets, but they
win the series.
Speaker 3 (01:42):
I mean, look with.
Speaker 1 (01:43):
Jokich and and and Murray, you're gonna have a chance.
But they win that series. They do what they're supposed
to do and they win a blowout in Game seven
at home. You watch the Thunder play and you watch
what they're doing to the to the Minnesota Tea Wolves
tonight and what they've done so far. And I look
at the teams left in the playoffs, the Wolves, the Knicks,
and the Pacers, right, and you watch all three of
(02:04):
them play and you can see, yes, they're all te light.
The Knicks are really good. They got holes. Pacers really good,
they got holes. I don't know that there's a team
that can give the Thunder a series, right, like I
don't know if Minnesota can give them a series. I
don't know if the Knicks or the Pacers can give
them a series in the NBA Finals. I don't know
that this is gonna wind up being a Thunder sweep
(02:25):
and then a Thunder sweep in the finals, because they're
just that good. The team they've assembled is in a
perfect spot. You're talking about all defensive players of the
year in the starting line at the big free agent
signing that really brings the glue to the team, like Hartenstein,
the young studs of Jalen Williams and Chet Holmgren who
are on big rookie deals and yet they go for
(02:46):
twenty to ten every single night. Caruso off the bench,
who's still Laker fans won Alex Caruso back. Like Laker
fans think if we had Caruso the last five years,
we'd have four championships, right. Caruso is that guy? Like
the Oklahoma City Thunder have an doubly well constructed roster.
When it comes to money, they're spending youth, experience, all
the first round picks they still have at their disposal
(03:09):
to make this team better.
Speaker 3 (03:10):
Like they are in such a sweet spot, right now.
I don't know. This year, I don't know.
Speaker 1 (03:14):
Is there someone that can really give them a series
that's going to be a really difficult thing.
Speaker 4 (03:19):
Spurtability, Can you run with them? Can you make the
shots and go possession for possession. Minnesota's tried, and all
they've done is shoot themselves out of games, right back
to back games where you saw the third quarter where
things just went out of sorts. Okay, see plus fourteen
back to back games and you just had a sequence,
(03:39):
I don't know, maybe about midway through the fourth here
where you just had the reach as SGA went for
the drive McDaniels with a little bit of extra and
in the broadcast had that moment where I was able
to turn up the audio. What are they saying, because
you're eating the clothes captioning, it's like hit the rewind.
He just said something controversial, guys, showing the mental weakness
(04:02):
and then pause goes, but this is not a mentally
weak Minnesota team.
Speaker 3 (04:05):
It's like you just said it.
Speaker 4 (04:08):
You put it out there that he had the moment,
and that's what the constant pressure from OKC will do.
And the way Gildas Alexander is playing and we talked
about it as the season wore on a lot of
what people complained about with James Harden years ago in
terms of slowing down the game. Right when you think
defensively you're starting to figure things out, he's able to
(04:30):
create and get himself back to the foul line. So
any momentum, any bit of advantage you started to think
you had in terms of your defensive calls and switch
outs just got rendered moot because he was back at
the line, staring at you and shooting another couple of
free throws. And for Gildas Alexander, every time you get
(04:52):
a stop Minnesota, well the next possession, SGA is right
back and attacking, and you're getting guys trying to move
their feet, trying to stay with and he's good at
getting his body underneath you and into you. Uh, and
just that extra bit of contact it either takes you
out of defensive position where he finds an open teammate,
or he's back at the file line or getting a
(05:12):
continuation call, which again I don't think Magic Johnson got
the continuation calls that SGA gets at times. But all
that to say, they've been relentless and Minnesota's had absolutely
no answer, and your guy, Julius Randall's on the side
of a milk carton.
Speaker 1 (05:27):
Well, coo, I'm telling you man, he's really struggling with
the Knicks loss.
Speaker 3 (05:30):
Last night.
Speaker 1 (05:31):
I gave him a pass tonight he was great. Then
watch what happened to the Knicks Now he's maybe maybe
it affects everybody.
Speaker 3 (05:38):
Yeah, he should have taken the holiday. Then he's the
guy should have just tapped out. See if they could
have found something off the bench.
Speaker 1 (05:45):
Listen, here's the here's here's the x NIX right to
tell you that.
Speaker 3 (05:49):
Okay, Well to the Knicks a little bit.
Speaker 1 (05:51):
Uh. Julius Rydal tonight after after a first half of
Game one in which he hit five threes and kept
the Tea Wolves in it. He's got six points tonight,
two out of eleven from the floor. Dante DiVincenzo off
the bench tonight is minus twenty seven for the t
Wolves the two. See, I'm telling you, man, this Knicks
(06:12):
loss is affecting a lot of people.
Speaker 3 (06:13):
It's not just me. It's not just me.
Speaker 1 (06:15):
They woke up today going I really this is a
bad day. Bad day, man, bad day.
Speaker 4 (06:21):
Three of eight from the field for Devincenzo eight points,
three rebounds, three assists.
Speaker 3 (06:26):
He's been poor.
Speaker 1 (06:28):
I mean, look, even Hartenstein tonight. Have everybody who's been
in the game for the Thunder, he has the fewest points,
all right, I mean that's it's really I'll tell you
that it's really. It's affecting everyone. Mike Well, he's only
taking five.
Speaker 4 (06:39):
Shots though, I mean in his defense, the other guys
have more than done their job. When you're looking at
twenty from Chet, twenty three from Williams, who's been fantastic,
and then obviously shake Gilders Alexander with his thirty four,
they haven't even needed a whole lot from the bench.
Seventeen points between Crusoe and Wallace. But once again, Cruz
(07:00):
is also the guy that you know bodies up on
defense and he'll take you out of your game because
he's he's an agitator, right, It's a different type of
agitator than we're used to in the NBA. It's like,
how am I getting checked by this guy? Damn it.
Speaker 1 (07:14):
It's a twelve point lead for the Thunder one nine
ninety seven with two and a half left to go. Gee,
let's see if the Thunder canel the twelve point lead
with two and a half minutes left to go.
Speaker 3 (07:23):
Let's see if that happens. Let's see if we can
do Let's see it. Let's see if history repeats itself. Mike,
Let's see we see that.
Speaker 4 (07:28):
Take a deep breath, pal take a deep breath, because
you know what, the only time that's gonna matter is tomorrow.
Like if the if OKC were to give this lead ups,
like see the wolves scare you know, ready, they were
ready for the test.
Speaker 3 (07:41):
They're ready, prepared.
Speaker 4 (07:43):
No, no, no, you don't get the back of the fish
racked the same way that you did yesterday.
Speaker 3 (07:48):
And how quickly were those headlines written?
Speaker 4 (07:52):
I think about a I don't know, maybe about a
half a minute after the final buzzer.
Speaker 1 (07:57):
Now, meanwhile, as as this is going on here again,
freshly minted NBA MVP Shay Gilders Alexander having a big
night the first game after being named MVP.
Speaker 3 (08:09):
We told you this two nights ago. We said, well,
welcome to the media.
Speaker 1 (08:12):
Mike Malone, former Denver Nuggets head coach who is now
working for ESPN. During the finals, was asked about his
opinion of Shae Gilders Alexander's performance of game, my opinion
of his performance with the guy out there, and he said, well,
that's why he's.
Speaker 3 (08:27):
The MVP of the league.
Speaker 1 (08:28):
And he went on to talk about great things about
Shay Gilders Alexander Okay, great accept except that we played
it back for you about six weeks ago in a
postgame press conference.
Speaker 3 (08:39):
This is when he was still head coach of the Nuggets.
Speaker 1 (08:42):
He said, Hey, Nikola Jokich is the MVP ten times
out of ten. If you don't believe that, I don't
know what else I can blank and tell you what
he does. Jokich is the MVP. But now what change
from Mike Malone and the last Oh that's right, he
got fired by the Nuggets.
Speaker 3 (08:59):
At the time, we said, yes, okay, here it is.
Speaker 1 (09:02):
This is him getting a little bit of pushback, but
a lot of this is welcome to the media because
he doesn't understand you how he's gonna have people who think, oh,
I could do this job. I could just say, yet,
it's a little more difficult than you think. When you
say things, people remember what you said, people hold you
to it. I could pick a game wrong in college
football and a million people want to jump up and
(09:22):
down at me. Oh, you don't watch he was going
to beat Oregon in the PAC twelve Championship game last year.
Speaker 3 (09:27):
Jason, you're stupid.
Speaker 1 (09:28):
Okay, sorry, but he understands now because he got a
lot of heat. We said it was coming, and yeah,
the last few days, Mike Malone has been Wait a minute,
you said Jokic was the MVP.
Speaker 3 (09:39):
Now he's not. Are you mad because you got fired?
What is it? Well?
Speaker 1 (09:43):
Malone today cleared the air, as we said, he's going
to have to. He's going to say, I don't like this.
I don't like people calling me. I don't like being this.
I'm going to clear the air and make sense of
what I said on ESPN before game two today he
said this quote asked about Hey, you know you picked
Jay Gilders, Alexander's the MVP.
Speaker 3 (10:03):
He won MVP.
Speaker 1 (10:03):
He said, quote, I did vote for him again this
year if I had a vote talking about Nikola Jokic.
Want to make sure that people in Denver know that,
because right now I'm getting a lot of heat back home.
So I did vote for him again this year if
I had a vote.
Speaker 3 (10:17):
So wait, what does that mean? Like, does he not
know if he had a vote?
Speaker 1 (10:21):
Like, I don't know if I'm voting, but I don't
know if I have a vote, if I had a Like,
does he mean if I had a vote, i'd have
voted for him. But it sounds like he voted for him,
but he's not sure if he actually has a vote,
So I don't know. If he just filled out some
sort of ballot a paper at home and then mailed
it in and said, I'll send this to the NBA.
Maybe they accept my vote, maybe not like like a
provisional ballot cat. Maybe they'll count in the election, maybe
(10:42):
they won't. I don't know. So I did vote for
him again this year if I had a vote, I'm
getting a lot of heat back home. Yeah, welcome to
the media, Mike Malone. And when you say stuff like
I did vote from again, if I had a vote,
I just sit here and go You're not cut out
for this, man, You're not cut out. Go back to coaching,
get back in. You did this. This is not your thing, man,
This is not your thing.
Speaker 4 (11:03):
Do you think he was being cute and doing a
parody version of the Lyle Love at nineteen eighty eight
classic If I had.
Speaker 3 (11:08):
A boat, If I had a boat, if I'd go
out on the ocean.
Speaker 4 (11:14):
If I knew that song, I would say yeah, And
if I had a pony, I'd ride him on that boat.
I think the only Lile love It song I know
is private conversation. That's That's the only one. I know.
Speaker 3 (11:26):
I love value.
Speaker 1 (11:27):
Because he was engaged at Julia Roberts for like eight
seconds in nineteen ninety, which is like we need thirty
for thirty on that, like the Julia Roberts Lyle love
and engagement, like need we need something on that?
Speaker 4 (11:36):
And the time that he was randomly on King of
the Hill and he goes quiet rooster boy.
Speaker 3 (11:41):
Yeah, I really think there's a sweet spot for that.
Speaker 5 (11:47):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (11:47):
No, I remember that now. It was thirty something years
ago and nineties nostalgia is in. So yeah, I want
to understand all that. I want to get what that
was all about. I really want to do. Yeah, we
have enough attention now on Jordan Hudson and Bill Belichick.
Why not have the Lyle Love It thing? How great
is the Pete Futech line? Though, wouldn't it be funny
if because of that schedule, because they've sold out their
(12:08):
season ticket a lot, and then after raising prices twenty
five percent all of that, and then all of a
sudden they're fighting for a playoff spot like shut you
all up.
Speaker 3 (12:17):
Didn't not?
Speaker 4 (12:19):
He comes walking in like he's Rick Flair or Baby
Billy off of the Righteous Gemstones, like see see I got.
Speaker 1 (12:26):
You exit out about a Fresca exit swallowing down The
Jason Smith Show with Mike Carbon Live from the Fox
Sports Radio Studios. I mean, I mean, I I I
look at this series, and I look at what's going
on with the with the Thunder and the Tea Wolves
to bring it back to that here, and it's just
I really, I mean, they they are. This is their
(12:49):
time because it always gonna be this way for Oklahoma City.
Probably not, but you see this moment in time, and
I don't know, I don't know a team that can
really give them a run. Like if Minnesota gets a
game in this series, I think that's an accomplishment at
this point because this is two blowouts now, you know
Game one, in Game two, Minnesota is going back home.
Try to figure out how do we stop them. We can't,
(13:12):
you know, we can't stop them, can't. We can't slow
them down, even when it looks like we're playing well,
in the first half, things get sideways on us incredibly quickly,
and all of a sudden we're chasing a twenty point
lead in the third quarter, like they get out in
the third sometimes like the Warriors would in their heyday,
where suddenly they're losing fifty four to forty six at halftime,
(13:32):
and then three minutes into the third quarter it's seventy
eight to fifty. You know, it's like, how did this
happen to us? Like that's kind of what the Oklahoma
City Thunder do. They play any kind of ball they
want to. They're aggressive, they get out fast, they run
the court, they play great defense. Below It's like this
is a moment in time for them where this is
almost a perfect roster configuration with talent, youth experience, what
(13:54):
they're paying the future ahead of them with all the
first round picks they have, Like this is the model
France right now in the NBA.
Speaker 3 (14:02):
Yeah, I mean they're set for years, right.
Speaker 4 (14:04):
Shay is just getting into the the sweet spot of
his career. Chet Holmgrun's healthy and you see what he is.
He's a nightmare on both ends of the court. And
to your point, right, the spurt ability of it you've
seen it back to back the third quarters. But but
each of these games, right, you take a bad shot,
they're not they're not complacent. They're gonna keep pushing the envelope,
(14:29):
pushing the pace and making you work and off you
can't rest. I mean, you get no breaks whatsoever. Of
all right, we're gonna get into a defensive set. No,
you've got to go try to cover these guys as
they're pushing the ball up the court and SGA with
that little rock step gets into attack mode, and you've
got problems in five straight playoff games. Over thirty at
(14:51):
thirty seven, as we're watching this, into the final minute,
back to the free throw line once again to extend
the lead. So it's the for Minnesota. I guess you
take some solace. You'll be at in front of your
home crowd. And maybe Edwards is at the free throw
on a bunch, but today he was aggressive.
Speaker 3 (15:12):
That didn't solve anything.
Speaker 4 (15:14):
Right, Randall was invisible, and no matter what you tried
to slow things down, the barrage came. And now it's
just a matter of dribbling it out.
Speaker 3 (15:25):
Exit out by the Fresco exit Swallen' Dome. Final thirty seconds.
Speaker 1 (15:28):
It's a fifteen point burial for the thunder who are
gonna take a two games to none lead over the
Timberwolves in the Western Conference Finals.
Speaker 3 (15:36):
We'll have more NBA on the way.
Speaker 1 (15:38):
We have a big story out of basketball where you
thought one rivalry was about to just take over the sport.
Speaker 3 (15:44):
Maybe not.
Speaker 1 (15:45):
Plus big stuff in the NFL following the big changes
from a day ago to this coming season in the league.
That's next right here, Jason and Mike Fox Sports Radio.
Forty five is a big number. Pedro Martinez was throwing
no hitters and hitting guys at the same time. Wear
a number forty five. I think the Knicks could lose
by forty five tomorrow night to the Pacers. It feels
(16:07):
like the thunder A gonna win every game by forty five.
Forty five also the threshold that Mike and I have
upon us. Each of us are right at that cusp
of losing forty five pounds so far thanks to PhD
weight loss. Even heard us talking about it for the
last few months. It has changed our lives since the
beginning of the year. It can change your life too.
(16:29):
You will lose big weight the first week. Mike and
I each lost over seven pounds. The first week of
PhD weight Loss. Guys average losing three to five pounds
a week. Ladies, you'll average losing two to three pounds
a week. It's easy for me to do something.
Speaker 3 (16:43):
And to fit.
Speaker 1 (16:44):
It's gotta be easy. So if I can do it,
I know you can do it. Best thing right now,
you could take advantage of this right now by calling
eight six four five oh two one seven seven seven.
That's eight six four five oh two one triple seven.
Mention Jason and Mike Fox Sports Radio and guess what.
You will get a free two weeks off your weight
(17:04):
loss program, and of course it'll be backed by PhD's
guarantee again. Eight six four five o two one seven
seven seven. Eight six four five oh two one seven
seven Again, mention Jason to Mike Fox Sports Radio to
get that off your program again. Eight six four five
oh two one triple seven. Go to my phdweight loss
(17:25):
dot com. That's my phdweight loss dot com. Eight six
four five oh two one seven seven seven.
Speaker 2 (17:32):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 4 (17:43):
This one goes for the next Jason, Do you know why, Jay,
why does this come out to the next Allergies are
locked out of the playoffs now going to the finals.
Speaker 1 (17:54):
See see it's it would be better if you said
we're locked out of winning, because that plays along with
locked out of Heaven. I'm locked out a winding Yeahada,
I like the effort. Good job, Ti Shirt, Fox Sports Radio,
The Jason Smith Show with Mike Carmon Love for the
Fox Sports Radio studios. And uh, we'll get back into
(18:19):
the thunder and the Tea Wolves coming up in a
few minutes because of the Thunderer up to Zip and.
Speaker 3 (18:23):
Wow, it looks like that series is over.
Speaker 4 (18:26):
Mike, I got a staff for you to go with
that one when we are when we get back to them.
Speaker 1 (18:30):
Uh, but but first before you into another big basketball story.
You know, I tell you I'm not great today, Bob right,
not great, you know obviously the Knicks. Now, how are you,
Jason the day after? Not great, not great. I'm bee
hundred percent. I will tell you I am very I
am very cognizant. I feel very empowering. I can talk
about my feelings and how I feel. I'm not great, Bob,
I'm still twenty four hours, I'm still not great.
Speaker 4 (18:52):
Did you buy anything from that player's trunk that I
sent you?
Speaker 3 (18:55):
Well, here's a seat. Did I make you feel better
with that at least? Okay? Okay, hang on, maybe you're
a wallet dog. Gotta talk low.
Speaker 1 (19:02):
My wife hates you, absolutely hates you for showing me
the player's trunk by a pair of those sweatsants hates you.
Speaker 3 (19:12):
Okay, so the player's trunk, now, look the.
Speaker 1 (19:14):
Players just because this is because this because I'm a
pull back. Yeah, I'm a big fan of retail therapy
right when things go wrong for my teams. On like
I'm going on eBay, I'm buying stuff, man, I need
I need something.
Speaker 3 (19:25):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (19:25):
The Player's Trunk was started by a bunch of different
equipment managers across the country a few years ago. I
think they were on Shark Tank, right, did they?
Speaker 3 (19:32):
So were?
Speaker 1 (19:33):
They were noticed, and they all work together and they
sell clothing that players who have transferred or graduated, uh,
left behind, and the equipment managers split the money in
some way with the players who leaves the who leave
the gear behind, and it's all great.
Speaker 3 (19:51):
Shade.
Speaker 1 (19:52):
It's not like you're getting sweatshirs A T shirts that
are that are you know, look awful and they're ripped,
and no, you're getting really good quality and this is
team issued stuff. And I'm like, oh no, this is stuff.
I like Harmon tells me about it like three months ago,
and I'm going, oh my god, this is the greatest
thing ever. Right, I bought a pair of Syracuse pants.
I was so excited. I put Justin Lampson's pants, who
transferred like a year ago. Right, He's been on two
(20:14):
colleges since. I like, oh, these pans. Because have you
got Wade Bonch pants?
Speaker 3 (20:18):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (20:18):
Because it has my because he wore ten at Syracuse
and that was my number all through sportscrawth.
Speaker 3 (20:22):
Like, I gotta get pants. I got the number ten.
Oh this is great.
Speaker 1 (20:25):
And you send me the note today that they have
a drop tonight with Trevor Pana who just transferred from
Syracuse to Penn State. And there's like forty things on there,
like I'm doing this, I'm getting this, I'm getting this.
Speaker 3 (20:36):
I'm getting this. My wife hates you. She as a
good look a bucket hat.
Speaker 4 (20:41):
Yeah, and a pair of sweatpants that I'm staring at
right now.
Speaker 3 (20:43):
I'm like, as are pretty nice, pretty nice.
Speaker 4 (20:46):
I'm not gonna buy it, but I can see where
maybe you were I got. I gotta see if there's
any of the Iowa stuff left from earlier from van ness,
Like I.
Speaker 1 (20:56):
Got like four things in my car. Now it says
like three hundred and seventy. I say, Okay, I'm not
gonna get all those things, but wow, what can I get? Hey, Pam,
can I get? I love you?
Speaker 3 (21:04):
What can I get? I'm getting it. I'm getting it.
I'm just trying to help your boy.
Speaker 1 (21:10):
So yeah, So so retail therapy now now normal? Now
the thing is because normal my read not to think
here that I'm just like throwing my normally retail therapy
because you know me, I like to shop.
Speaker 3 (21:19):
I love to thrift.
Speaker 1 (21:19):
Sure, it lets my part to save the save the
planet to buy clothes that, you know, otherwise just gonna
get stacked up and stacked up. So I go on
you know, I'll go on eBay. I'll buy a couple
of tea. Oh, I bought a Mets t shirt for
eight dollars. I'll buy the Syracuse thing for seven dot whatever.
It is, but boy man player's trunk. I got that
itchy finger man. It's like my dad when he gets
ten dollars in his pocket. What can I buy?
Speaker 3 (21:39):
I gotta spend some I gotta spend some money. I
got no, h I got that. I want to click
on it. I want to click on it.
Speaker 1 (21:44):
So always have to get down to what I absolutely
want to buy and then go from there.
Speaker 4 (21:47):
Yeah, it's the Fred clintchtone bet bet bet bet, you.
Speaker 3 (21:51):
Know kind of thing going on.
Speaker 1 (21:52):
That's a bat that's a bad thing, man, But it's
good for me because it makes me forget about the
nicks for five minutes.
Speaker 4 (21:57):
So it's okay. Now you spent more than five minutes.
They're like, all right that one. How long are those
gonna be? Can I all to repair of sweatpants? What
can I do with the sweatshirt? I've lost a bunch
of weight with our our my PhD weight loss program
that you and I have been doing.
Speaker 3 (22:15):
Can I fit into those? See there's the downside.
Speaker 4 (22:20):
I mean, if there was any to the to the
weight losses, that all right, you don't fit in the
XL or double XL anymore.
Speaker 3 (22:26):
So you know what can you do? Right? What can
you do?
Speaker 4 (22:29):
Yeah, so now you're looking for smaller players. You need
some kickers to transfer.
Speaker 3 (22:33):
Yeah. No.
Speaker 1 (22:33):
And I'm like, I said, I'm feeling reallyty, like when
you sent me the tremor paint.
Speaker 3 (22:37):
I'm like, hey, he's fine, all right. Height, Yeah, I
got a great snuff man. He's six feet. I'm like
five nine five right, yeah, my height. This is great.
I'm so excited. I dig that he goes he's six feet.
He's my height. I mean I'm my nine.
Speaker 1 (22:53):
And the thing is, we uh, we were we were
at my daughter's softball game today and I set because
you know that the trunk drop like at eight o'clock,
like they say, hey, we unlocked the trunk, right, the
players all the new stuff at at at eight o'clock.
Speaker 3 (23:06):
So five o'clock here in La.
Speaker 1 (23:07):
So I set the alarm on my my phone to
four fifty eight, and I'm like, okay, and the game's
going on. All of a sudden, my wife, what's going on? Like, oh,
I don't know because I forgot that I said it.
I'm going I don't.
Speaker 3 (23:21):
Go whose phone? What is going on?
Speaker 6 (23:23):
Oh?
Speaker 3 (23:24):
Oh that's oh that's my plus what the hell did
you send your Alan for I go.
Speaker 1 (23:29):
The player's trunk drop is at five o'clock with with
stuff from Syracuse on it.
Speaker 3 (23:34):
I'm gonna go over here right now. I'm just a
look over here. She hates me.
Speaker 4 (23:38):
What should I send her? Yeah, chocolates and sandwiches. I mean,
send her something off players trunk from Michigan. There you go,
that's what I have to do. No, that's that's like,
that's that's a heavy investment. That's that's like four sandwiches.
I just like, I just I just want to buy chocolates. Okay, look,
I want to get in here for I want to
go into uh we're.
Speaker 3 (23:58):
Trying to get in and off as cheap as we can.
Speaker 1 (24:00):
I want to go into Ross or TJ Max and
get those chocolates that have been sitting there for like
nine months, right and now I'm gonna buy that. When
you when you open it up and you can see
the chocolate's old because it's just it's and it's a
different color. Yeah, oh you got mean white chocolate.
Speaker 3 (24:14):
No, no, no, that's regular chocolate. That never mind. So again,
so my wife hates you, all right, I'll send her
something from Michigan.
Speaker 1 (24:22):
Now, the big controversy with what we've seen so far,
the w NBA has centered around the relationship between Caitlin
Clark and Angel Reese on display the Big Foul last weekend,
and and I agree with a lot of the pundit
to say, we'd like this to be you know that, say, hey, listen,
we need it to be about basketball, because I told
(24:42):
you that from the beginning. You can't have a rivalry
about race about race, right, because that's what's happening with
with Angel Reese and Caitlin Clark. It's becoming about race.
This whole investigation to a fan may or may not
have said something on the sideline, which, okay, we get
all these things about condemning hate and condemning racist speech,
and Angel Reese condemns it and then reposts a post
(25:05):
from TikTok where someone says something, you know, it says
the I'll look at the white girl Caitlin Clark running
away from Angel Reese. Okay, great, yeah, it's working. Yeah,
make sure we can't have it. And the Angel rees
goes and posts that.
Speaker 3 (25:15):
Right.
Speaker 1 (25:15):
So it's like, Okay, the WNBA needs to get away
from this, right, But I don't know how. When when
it seems like it's not something that is it's conducive
to happening, right, it seems like it's still going to
can continue on. But this is a conversation we can
have strictly about the basketball court, right, about the rivalry
between the Fever and the Sky because let's be honest, right,
(25:38):
the WNBA is here, it matters.
Speaker 3 (25:41):
They have a seat at the.
Speaker 1 (25:42):
Big table, and all we've talked about is hey be
able to handle success, right, But they're here, and the
Caitlin Clark Angel Reese rivalry is something people get caught
up in the popularity.
Speaker 3 (25:51):
If Caitlin Clark is through the roof, right, we know this,
not telling you anything you don't know.
Speaker 1 (25:55):
But something is more special when the Fever play the
Sky right there there just is that they'll always be
linked from college basketball, from the national championship, from Angel
Rees doing the ring thing and then Caitlin like they're
gonna be linked. There's always gonna be a big deal.
But on the court, let's stay on the court because
we can. I don't know that this is the year
(26:18):
that that rivalry is going to be great on the court,
because my goodness, the Chicago Sky absolutely are struggling. So
much out of the gate. They lose their first game
to Indiana on Saturday ninety three, fifty eight right National TV.
Three and a half million people watch. More people are
watching NBA games over the course of the last week.
(26:39):
Like that's how big it is, right, we say, see
it at the table. So Indiana just absolutely drubbed Chicago. Right,
Chicago has no Kennedy Carter. You know they wanted to
try to fix the locker room. They fight Treuth what
treesa weatherspoon and they lose by thirty, right, and you
heard them say this is not going to define our season.
They play the Liberty and Liberty are really good, obviously
defending champs, and they're losing by twenty two and a
(27:02):
half time, and they lose by twenty five tonight. They
have now lost their first two games by over thirty
and twenty five, and they are struggling so much. I mean,
all you have to do is watch the highlight tonight
of angel Reaess and you think I'm lying, I'm not.
On one sequence five offensive rebounds and then she gets
blocked twice and misses two shots before she passes out.
(27:25):
Right for all this last year, oh, she offensive rebounds
all her own shots. No she doesn't, No, she doesn't,
and she doesn't but no, but I'm telling you this
absolutely happened tonight. You watch on one sequence, she gets
five offensive rebounds, and she goes up and gets blocked twice,
and she misses two short shots twice when she's playing
one on three. Hey, when you get that rebound, you
miss a shot, turn around, get it back out right.
(27:46):
You got three players around you understand. But instead five
offensive rebounds on one play, four misses and finaland I'm
passing it out. That play stands for the Chicago Sky
and really Angel reas you know, so far, for this
part of the season, Chicago did not make changes that
made themselves a lot better this year, you know, you know,
(28:06):
bringing in Courtney van der Slut.
Speaker 3 (28:08):
Okay, they went defensive.
Speaker 1 (28:10):
On some of their moves, but wow, you got to
be able to score the name and that's whye. But
that's why every bucket is worth two points and not one. Right,
Like like the Chicago Sky looks so far like well,
I don't know, man on the court, four more games
against the Fever, are they gonna want to take those
away and say, listen, we're gonna put another game on
Because as much as people want to see the Fever
in the Sky, you know, thirty points, you know that's
(28:30):
people don't want to see. He showed something a little
bit more competitive. I don't know that that on the court.
Rivalry for the Fever and the Sky is going to be.
Speaker 3 (28:37):
There this year.
Speaker 4 (28:38):
No, no, no, this is where you find I mean
we've watched it twice this week. Fever and the Dream,
Fever Dream eighty one seventy six, your final in that
one today, Caitlin Clark had one hundred and forty game
streak snapped with at least one three pointer as she
goes over from distance, oh for five one hundred and
forty straight games. Curious as to what that would if
(29:00):
you took one hundred dollars bet and just let it ride.
Speaker 3 (29:03):
You'd be back to zero today. But all of that
to say, double it. I'm gonna keep doubling it. A
going to double it, double it, doubles. She'll never go
without a three.
Speaker 4 (29:12):
No, she did without a make, but you get twenty
six from Howard and you get the job done.
Speaker 3 (29:17):
Eighty one seventy six. Fantastic game that one was.
Speaker 4 (29:20):
And this is one of the things right is the WNBA.
You've got games all over the place. Ion Today's was
on Amazon Prime. So then you get the networks like
it is one of those things you really need, like
a pocket schedule, like you'd get before the baseball season
when you'd go to a hardware store to know where
the hell you're supposed to watch things. Wait, actually the
(29:42):
NFL is doing the same thing. So what am I
talking about? But go back to the sky. I mean, offensively,
they were awful. Thirty three points from their starters, forty
one off the bench, Van lift came in, gave them
fifteen minutes.
Speaker 3 (29:55):
She was zero for four from the field. Angel rees to.
Speaker 4 (29:58):
Your point, two points scored, twelve boards, oh for eight
from the field, and no juice whatsoever in terms of
trying to find a stopper. And yes, they played a
much better team defending champ and you look at their
depth there. They're gonna be a fun squad to watch
(30:18):
as you roll through and hopefully eventually you get the
battles with the fever that get that that same notoriety,
uh and and and substance to the media coverage, because right.
Speaker 3 (30:29):
Now, I mean, it's just the low hanging.
Speaker 4 (30:31):
Fruit for folks like the The old strategy for us
Jason has always been can't fall the good strategy. I
hate that leaning into the racial divide on this has
put food on the table for a bunch of these
folks because it continues to right, because that's that's where
you lean into that story for some folks. I actually
(30:53):
like talking about the basketball where we can we can
talk miss layups, we could talk about sequencing whatever. But
in this case, yeah, we're not getting a rivalry on
the court because it doesn't exist. And Angel recent spots
in that first game, you know, dribbling the ball up
and you see some of the work being done that
it looks a little smoother, but the results aren't there.
(31:14):
And this team is bad. Even with all the changes
they tried to make, coaching changes you as you alluded to,
right now, they're just getting buried and falling further and
further behind.
Speaker 3 (31:25):
Again.
Speaker 4 (31:26):
Your bench outscores your starters forty one to thirty three.
Speaker 1 (31:29):
This is like when I used to watch Nick Celtics
games in the eighties. Oh in a great rivalry final
score Celtics won sixteen, Nick seventy nine.
Speaker 3 (31:36):
That was every game.
Speaker 1 (31:38):
What a rivalry and it was exciting until they tipped
the ball off and then that's not happening anymore.
Speaker 4 (31:43):
Memory and history and all of those kind of things. Hey,
let's go and rewind. That's all find and good.
Speaker 1 (31:49):
But Larry Bird, you're checking out of the game for
good at the eight minute mark of the third quarter.
Speaker 3 (31:54):
So it will be a night of rest for Larry Legend.
Speaker 1 (31:57):
Timey sting, she stings for the Celtics. Time now to
find out what's trending in the wide world of sports.
So someone who's been called the Caitlin Clark of Fox
Sports Radio because she didn't hit a three tonight either,
it's Monte Belagyos.
Speaker 6 (32:11):
I did not hit a three tonight, but I have
been called the Caitlin Clark of Fox Sports Radio by
a listener.
Speaker 3 (32:17):
So Heyley, I have Oh I know, I.
Speaker 6 (32:20):
Know, so sweet, but yes, I did not hit a
three today unfortunately.
Speaker 2 (32:25):
Yeah, you guys were talking about.
Speaker 6 (32:26):
There were two WNBA games, a Fever topping the Dream
eighty one to seventy six and also the Liberty Cruising
Pass the Sky ninety nine to seventy seven. We'll check
in on the NBA though, Game two of the Western
Conference semi Finals Oklahoma City Thunder seems like they made
just roll with it. They took down that Zimmerwolves one
eighteen to one oh three. It was really the third
(32:46):
quarter that's the big difference maker here, where OKC outscored
Minnesota thirty five to twenty one, and it just was
too much for Minnesota to try and come back from,
even though they did outscore them in the fourth quarter.
Shae Gilges Alexander was awarded the MVP Trophy before the
game and then played like an MVP. Ended with thirty
eight points. He was twelve of twenty one from the field,
(33:07):
only took two threes, and was one of two thirteen
to fifteen from the free throw line. Also had eight assists,
while Jalen Williams helped out with twenty six points. Chet
Holmgren had twenty two.
Speaker 2 (33:17):
Points from Minnesota.
Speaker 6 (33:18):
Anthony Edwards twelve of twenty six from the field, one
of nine from the three, and seven of ten from
the free throw line. Ended with thirty two points, nine rebounds,
and six assists. Julius Randall struggled. He was two of eleven,
zero of three from the three, and ended with six
points in the loss. This was game two, so now
okac leads the series to zero. But Game one of
(33:38):
the Pacers Nicks, I know you don't want to talk
about it, but it averaged six point six million viewers,
the most watched Eastern Conference Final Game one since the
Celtics and the Cavaliers squared off in twenty eighteen. In
the NHL playoffs, continue.
Speaker 3 (33:53):
I know that I don't think people got we didn't
know that.
Speaker 6 (33:57):
I'm sorry, I'm sorry.
Speaker 3 (34:00):
Three points shot right there.
Speaker 6 (34:02):
In the NHL Playoffs, the Game two of the East
Final between the Panthers and the Hurricanes, Florida scored within
one minute and seventeen seconds and never looked back, shutting
out the Hurricanes five to zero. So Florida now leads
the series to zero.
Speaker 3 (34:16):
In baseball, the.
Speaker 6 (34:18):
Brewers, after a rain delay, held on defeating the Pirates
in Pittsburgh eight to five. The Nationals did walk it
off against the Braves eight to seven on an RBI
single from Ahmed Rosadio, and the Braves announced that Ronald
the Kuna Junior is going to be activated tomorrow from
that injury list after that ACL injury he sustained last season.
Jose Alduve homer twice and the Astros defeated the Mariners
(34:41):
nine to two. The Angels have won seven in a row.
They took down the A ten to five Taylor Ward
with the Grand Slam. The Philly shut out the Rockies
to zero. Rockies are never gonna win again. The Blue
Jays beat the Padre seven to six and eleven innings,
and San Diego has lost six in a row. And
the Yankees defeated the Rangers one zero was the final score.
Are there and I'm sure you heard it, but the
(35:02):
current college football playoff format, it's going to change for
the twenty twenty five season. The top four schools in
the rankings will earn the top four seeds and first
round buys in.
Speaker 2 (35:11):
Straight seeding format.
Speaker 6 (35:13):
So not like it was this past year, the four
highest ranked conference champions we're given the top four seeds
and buys. That's not going to happen for the upcoming season.
Back to you, guys, thanks a.
Speaker 3 (35:23):
Bunch of minds.
Speaker 1 (35:24):
We'll have more on those huge changes for the college
football Playoff coming up in about twenty minutes, because boy,
they solved one big issue. Now they got one other
big one to solve. But coming up next, the NFL
in the last twenty four hours needs to realize they
have absolutely taken the wrong angle on a very big story.
Speaker 3 (35:46):
What is it?
Speaker 1 (35:46):
We'll tell you next, Jason, Mike, Fox Sports Radio, h
ty shirt now finding all words and say the end
in them. Well, at least that means we're going to
get the end by Wolfgang van Ailen coming up next hour.
Speaker 3 (36:01):
I'm sure could be.
Speaker 5 (36:04):
Then makes be sure to catch live editions of The
Jason Smith Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern,
seven pm Pacific, Fox.
Speaker 1 (36:15):
Sports Radio, The Jason Smith Show, My best Friend Mike Harmon.
Speaker 2 (36:20):
They're sorry, Jason.
Speaker 1 (36:21):
I know. I'm sorry too. I'm sorry too. They had
a good run, still not great, Bob, not great. The
day after not great, not great. But we have more
NBA coming up in a few minutes. But the after
effects the last twenty four hours since the NFL announced
(36:42):
a lot of big changes coming to the league this year, right,
and the biggest one has been the Tush push lives Right. Yeah,
a bit a bit overrated story, Like I think that
this became got too much attention for what it is.
It nearly passes to be banned, but it falls just
short of twenty two to ten. Today already the Eagles
(37:05):
have been selling push on t shirts, which is just
a T shirt with a video of Hurts about to
take the snap in the tush push formation. Apparently Gritty
Gritty is running the Eagle social media account.
Speaker 3 (37:16):
Now, hey, just got it all right here, Gritty's doing it.
Gritty's got it. Yeah.
Speaker 4 (37:20):
But they had a billboard up in Philadelphia like eight
minutes after the vote came. Now, oh yeah, but doesn't
it feel like, you know, there's so much attention to
being paid to this one, which is nothing Burger that
it's like a bill going through Congress, like, well, obviously
you should put a stop sign there, and then in
line like two point fifty two, there's some other thing
that gets approved in the process.
Speaker 3 (37:41):
Like what are they trying to sneak in?
Speaker 4 (37:43):
What's the thing that's gonna kill us all that's getting
sneaked into the bill?
Speaker 3 (37:48):
Well, I'll tell you what's what's killing them all?
Speaker 1 (37:50):
Because you bring up, you bring up the point with
all of this is that, yes, is it. It's a
little bit overrated for a play that, yes, two years ago,
almost unstoppable, a little bit less unstopped bull this year.
Just ask the Bills and Josh Allen, who ran it
really well, what happened? You need that first down against
the Chiefs. I mean, I know the official came from
the chief sideline to overrule it, but I mean it's
not absolutely unstoppable. It's a play that needs fourth and
(38:12):
one or less to to to execute. I get you're
mad about it, but you know, as you just said,
Philadelphi's already got custom gear on it. There were uh
billboards up about it right after the decision came down.
They get to keep it. Jeffrey Lourie said in the
in the meeting yesterday with the owners, it's it's a
I mean, you had a bad analogy, but he said,
it's it's either we get this band because it's too good,
(38:35):
or we get to continue to run a play that
we invented. That that that is changing the NFL. What
the NFL and what teams that don't that that don't
want the tush push don't realize and they need to,
is that all winning teams have that little special something
about them that galvanizes them.
Speaker 3 (38:52):
Right.
Speaker 1 (38:52):
Look back last year the Mets had Grimace and OMG,
Now was that a really big deal?
Speaker 3 (38:57):
No, but it was it was something.
Speaker 1 (39:00):
Outside of the white lines that Hey, everybody on the
team can buy into and everybody feels like it's us
against them.
Speaker 3 (39:06):
Right, it's a great thing.
Speaker 1 (39:07):
Every every winning team has their thing, right, Like when
your White Sox won, they play don't stop believing right
in the in the co op, after every single after
every single win. In the locker room. Steve Perry was
singing with them when they won the World Series, Like,
all teams have their thing. The NFL leave the Toush
push alone, because you are galvanizing the Eagles into making
(39:29):
this their identity and you need anything spurs them on. Hey,
they hate us, they hate the Toush Push. They're rallying
around this and it's making them stronger. All good teams
have that thing. The NFL just let it go, Just
let it go, let them run it, stop it on
the field, whatever happens that let it go. Man, it's
not that big a play. It's not like on third
and three they can convert all the time.
Speaker 3 (39:50):
But you are.
Speaker 1 (39:51):
You are empowering the Eagles, You're empowering the fan base,
everything around the team. You're making it crackle and this
spurs them on, and it's a thing. That they have,
that the Eagles have that they're able to use to
their benefit, and the NFL needs to realize that this
is what's helping the Eagles along and helping them with
their excellence. Every little bit you can use is an addition.
Speaker 4 (40:12):
Well, that's just it, right. You got to find find
your wins, find your your motivation. Whatever it might be
a headline someone talking bad about you, just you didn't
like the look someone gave you as you walk down
the street. In this case, they lean into this and
now their merchandise.
Speaker 3 (40:29):
Again, Hey, everybody gets paid.
Speaker 4 (40:32):
Maybe maybe the rest of the league says, hey, we
want our cut. But all of that to say, are
we going to flag football eventually? Because there's not a
lot of sexiness in most run plays. So should we
get rid of those two dive into the line. Let's
just do all of it right, half back dive for
a third? You know a third yard gain isn't sexy either,
(40:55):
get it guns at an exit out about a Fresca
exit swollen dumb more on the thund under two oh
leading a big story out of college football.
Speaker 3 (41:02):
Next Fox
