is the best of the Jason Smith Show with Mike
Harmon on Fox Sports Radio. Greetings, Welcome inside the Jason
Smith Show with my best friend Mike Harmon. And to start, No,
I am no better today than I was last night.
You thought today the whole No, no, do not play

(00:42):
that song? No, no, I do, no, absolutely the same, absolutely,
well a day is gone, but no, no, no, especially
when I had to see that Oh Tyre's Halliburton double
dribbled on his FA on the final player regulation. Okay,
that's great.

Speaker 2 (00:57):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (00:57):
Does it make you feel better that he's fouled before
where he dribbled again though, I mean ran through him.

Speaker 1 (01:02):
No, doesn't make no, no, nothing. Nothing made me feel
better today. I'm exactly this.

Speaker 3 (01:06):
Do you have a nice sandwich?

Speaker 1 (01:08):
Yes, I mean the times I was able to get
away from things today it was great, But where else
can I go? It's the biggest story of the day,
a biggest story in the NBA. This story. They could
run that play on a loop. It'll do higher ratings
than Game two of Thunder and the te Wolves.

Speaker 3 (01:22):
Oh, there's no question about it. I actually got asked
about it doing a spot that I do every week
in Baltimore going back about fifteen sixteen years. Whatever it is,
goes producer saw something your guy Jason Smith saying it's
the worst loss ever, and I go, all right, I'll
play along. You're an Orioles guy, right, It's like yeah,
it's like, what were your expectations for this year? Like

(01:45):
really high? I'm like, what did you just do? Fired
the manager? All right, case close, what's the next topic.
That's the way it is for the Knicks.

Speaker 1 (01:54):
It was I didn't want to read on it. I
didn't want to click on anything involving the game. There
could have been, uh a heading for a story on
the internet too, that said, Nick's Pacers Game one breakdown
also contains the secret to Eternal life, and I would
not have clicked on it. I would have said nope,
I'm fine. I'm fine, not if I have to read

(02:14):
that whole thing to get to the secret. For now,
I don't need it. I'll figure out eternal life someplace else.
I've he I saw all those out I read the headline.
Was I guarantee you if you if you read till
the end of this Knicks Pacers recap of game two,
you can you can hit this bar code and we
will send five million dollars to the bank account of
your choice. I would say, let somebody else have it.
Not gonna do it. I had to, I could anytime

(02:36):
it got near me on the internet, on TV, click move,
looked away. One time I tried to change the chant.
I'm like, I'm just gonna look away? What am I doing?
What am I doing? Why am I just closing my eyes?
Why just closing my out? I don't need to see it.
I don't need to see it.

Speaker 3 (02:48):
No, you're watching cartoons, man, No, not great. I don't
think they made it a cartoon yet for you, but
I think you know it's one of those. You'd be
really mad if you open up an article and started
reading and all of a sudden they spoiled the meaning
of life.

Speaker 1 (03:03):
For you.

Speaker 3 (03:04):
It's like they didn't tell me it was a spoiler alert. Well,
it was how do I now go the rest of
my day?

Speaker 2 (03:09):
I don't know.

Speaker 3 (03:10):
I mean I had to get it all figured out.
What's the point of everything else? Then?

Speaker 1 (03:14):
Yeah, but it was just the meaning of life. I
don't know if that's you know, I don't know if
that's gonna be something. Okay, meaning of life is great.
But I was like, oh, okay, but if you're giving
me the secret to eternal life, oh that's fine. Yeah,
but I don't want it. I don't need it.

Speaker 3 (03:28):
But here's the problem is, you'd finish that article and
it would say continued on page eighteen, and you'd go
back to page eighteen and to be a full page
ad for the latest final destination movie, How To Cheat Death.

Speaker 1 (03:40):
For over forty years, tire Rack's been helping customers find
the right tires for how, what and where they drive,
shipped fast and free back by the free road hazard protection,
with convenient installation options like mobile tire installation, tire rack
dot Com the way tire buying should be, and coming up,
we have the tire Rack Play of the Day, a
tire dot Com play of the day coming up and
forty five minutes, and it will not be a replay

(04:02):
of the Halliburton play from last night.

Speaker 4 (04:03):
No, Haliburton inbounded it right to Towns who couldn't get
the three pointer off in time, and the Pacers get
the job done, walking off with their heads held high,
stunning this home Nick crowd.

Speaker 1 (04:15):
Yeah, yeah, okay, that's great.

Speaker 3 (04:16):
I mean that was a bigger troll move than the
choke job thing, the joke job. I mean, you would
expect the here. You can't really take a shot with
point two blank. You move takes to do a whole
other level, don't it.

Speaker 1 (04:30):
You know what I mean it, buddy, I can't. I
can't do it. Man. I want to hit fast forward
until Game two is over tomorrow night, which the Knicks
will probably lose by twenty. I mean, really, the only thing,
and I'll give you this, right, We'll get to the
We'll get to the Thunder and the Pacers of the Pacers.
I can't stop taking the Pacer. We get to the
Thunder the Tea Wolves in a second. The only thing
that allowed me to get up today sports wise, right

(04:51):
and and have a day until until I saw the replay.
Oh Yeah, Haliburton completely double drip because I thought the
ball got knocked out of his hands. When had happened,
I'm like, oh, okay, the ball get knocked out of
his hands. He's getting Oh no, no, no, no. You
see that big slow mo NFL films replay like the
chauffeur of a large limousine content to let the pods
do with the driving. Oh no, no, no, that just

(05:11):
fell out of his hands. No call. What got me
out of bed today was this? Was it? The way
Indiana celebrated and seemed so way overly self satisfied after
that game was over. Right, you had the Halliburton choke
at the end of regulation. Right, you had them running
on the court like they just qualified for the NBA Finals,

(05:32):
didn't just win Game one? Players all laughing during the
interviews after the game, even Rick Carlile, who usually only
likes to stick the knife into the officials, sticking the
knife into the Knicks, saying, ah, you know it's emotional.
Halliburton's earned the right to do whatever he wants. Okay, okay,
because if I'm the Knicks, I'm like anger and inside
out by this steam is going through my ears, going Okay,

(05:55):
you want to honk it up and do the choke
thing and do that. Okay, it's game one, Like That's
the thing that got me up today that if I
had any concern that the Knicks can just get up
and start spewing blood and be ready for the rest
of this series, have a complete attitude and game adjustment.
That's the one thing that's the one silver line in that. Boy,
Indiana really seems like they were ready, like they were celebrating,

(06:16):
like they won Game seven. Now that being said, again,
where do you go after that loss? Teams were one
thy four hundred and fourteen wins and zero losses leading
by nine or more with fifty seconds left in regulation
since the NBA started keeping track in nineteen ninety five.
Fourteen hundred up and zero down, which is what I
keep going back to go, how are we gonna come

(06:38):
back from that? How? How did the Nicks come back
from that? But my dad is my silver line that boy,
the Pacers really looked like they I don't want to
say they awakened to sleeping giant because it's look, it's
the NBA, it's the Eastern Conference Finals. But boy, if
you needed something else to show you about bearing down
mentally and playing and playing bigger and making sure that
you don't have any laps at the end of the game,
and watching Ogano Nobe just let off of every time

(07:01):
Nee Smith got the ball to let him shoot a three, Like,
I don't know what else there is there. That's the
one silver lining I had in the day today. Yeah.

Speaker 3 (07:08):
No, a lot of battles on that sideline. Tibbs went
through the throat laws and just screaming, would somebody get
out on this man? Kat always a step too slow.
You look at the overhead views over the shot chart,
you do the overlay a lot of wide open spaces
for open threes, so I gotta think the close outs

(07:30):
are better. The other thing is, look, I know you
only go seven deep, which means you've got a couple
of folks that might be able to give you a
hard follow or two and really not affect any other
part of the game. So just saying, maybe, you know,
we've been talking a lot about the tush push and
rugby scrums, and I'm tougher than you. Let's hire a
bunch of the Samoan guys from the WWE and the.

Speaker 1 (07:53):
Bloodline to block for you.

Speaker 3 (07:55):
I'm just saying, maybe they've come out to set a
screen or two tomorrow, I to uh make folks think
a little bit as they're moving around the defensive perimeter,
just just saying, maybe maybe you get a little bit
of that. But yeah, you're you're not gonna give up
that many wide open shots again. Nee Smith had the
game of his life. No, he did score twenty five
against the Knicks, going back to a game at the

(08:17):
end of December. Not helping, not helping, you're not well,
I'm just saying it's but it's one data plot, it's
one plot point.

Speaker 1 (08:26):
Okay, I'm trying.

Speaker 3 (08:28):
I'm trying to say, on the large st, the guy
had eight twenty point games all year long. I don't
think he's suddenly a guy that's gonna be a lights
out dead eye shooter, you know, like Hawkey, like our
guy Jeremy Renner, that he's he's not coming back for
a season two. I don't think, just like Jeremy Renner.

Speaker 1 (08:47):
Again, this will only do so much for me, buddy,
this will only try it.

Speaker 3 (08:52):
I ordered some Geordonald's it'll be here next week, and
I know, I know you know I got that going
for us. I know you try it, man, But I
mean really, I'm not gonna and I don't know how
am I gonna feel if the Knicks win Game two?

Speaker 1 (09:04):
Oh, I feel better. Okay, they got they got it back,
but I'll feel they should be two games to none.
But would it be two games to none if they
didn't have whatever fire they have tomorrow night for giving
away game it? There's nothing there, There's there's nothing. There's
nothing that can make me feel better shortage short of
they beat the Pacers and go on to the NBA Finals.
That's it. And I feel like it's gonna be a
sweep now, because again, how do you come back from

(09:25):
with a fourteen point lead and two minutes and fifty
seconds left. NBA teams were nine hundred and seventy seven
and oh, since they've been keeping track in since nineteen
ninety tattoo those.

Speaker 3 (09:36):
On your on your fingers, those I got one hand
into instead of love. It says one four one four
and the other one says ninety seven seven? Man, what
are we doing?

Speaker 2 (09:46):
Powell?

Speaker 1 (09:46):
You're like, you gotta you gotta let it go, like
the Sideshow Bob when he had Bart's name on the
tattooed on.

Speaker 3 (09:51):
His exactly deep Bart d straight out, straight out of
a little little cape fear for us.

Speaker 1 (09:58):
All, but it's for the Bart thee oh okay, oh
that's right.

Speaker 3 (10:02):
Yeah, so I know it's it's been a tough twenty
not great. But Jack donya earlier, I mean, you vetoed
my idea that you know, this was the day to
let everybody just you know, like Luke Skywalker standing there
and they opened the cannons and really just start firing
and firing, and then he brushes off his shoulder and
all that that maybe we just opened the phone lines

(10:24):
for four hours and just sit back and let people
on load on you fire.

Speaker 1 (10:28):
Every cabin on that man, every cannon.

Speaker 3 (10:33):
He's not running the office.

Speaker 1 (10:37):
I'll continue to be not great for a while. But
right now, let's get to the game happening. Middle of
the third quarter, sixty eight sixty one Thunder looking to
take a two games to non lead. It was a
slow start for shake Gilgess Alexander, but now leading the
way with twenty one points, making a five point lead
now sixty eight to sixty three. Minnesota coming out like

(10:58):
we thought last night, we picked this game, and we
gave our big picks for DraftKings, I said, look, give
me the over for Anthony Edwards. He knows that he
had a game in Game one that he needed to
play better. He needed to do more, he needed to
bring more to the table. This is the thing about
ann Edwards. He doesn't play with the consistency that the
great NBA players all play with. You want to make
a Michael Jordan, Well, he can't show up for four

(11:19):
out of six games in a playoff series, so we
knew this had to be a bigger game. He is
playing extremely well over the course of the last few minutes,
helping get the t Wolves back in this He's at
eighteen eight and four, shooting eight for nineteen from the floor,
still not hitting threes, but that happens, but still leading
the way now for the t Wolves because he's got
to do this right. But this hearkens back to why
I picked the Thunder in the beginning, is that you

(11:41):
need your best players to be great throughout an entire series.
And I have confidence that even when SGA is getting
shut down or they're doing things to slow him, he
finds a way to impact the game. He gets to
the free throw a lot, He does a lot of
different things, and Ann Edwards doesn't do it quite as often.
He has those couple of games a series where boy,
he really needed to be bigger if we were gonna win.

(12:02):
And you can't give the Thunder games like that because
they're just two good. So still a five point lead
for the Thunder right now, six and a half to
go in the.

Speaker 3 (12:08):
Third twenty one for SGA got his MVP love and
you hear the chant all night long. Also five assists
in this one, moving the ball around quite well. Williams
with fifteen thus far, seven to eleven shooting.

Speaker 1 (12:24):
The other side.

Speaker 3 (12:25):
Right, we talk about Edwards and the need to be aggressive.
One of seven from three, but where where they need
some help? They they've gotten McDaniel's going. But Julius Randall
just two of nine thus far after that huge game one, so.

Speaker 1 (12:40):
True, clearly he's affected by the next giving away game
in a great game and now he's two for nine.
He can't hit it three, he stays, I'm telling you
it's like they're all sharing the same brain still, And
when you know it's like space jam, when when when
they when the bodies go out, the bodies go out,
all of them, all across the board. That's what happens.

Speaker 3 (12:57):
Wow, it just took down the entire net work, just
like that, like someone flipped the switch. Julius Randall, your guy.

Speaker 1 (13:06):
I mean telling you, man, that's that's how it works.
That's how it works. Then the Knicks, they they they
bring you up really high, and then they bring it
down really really low, just so so very low.

Speaker 3 (13:16):
Well, but that's it's okay. I mean, you still have
at least three more chances.

Speaker 1 (13:20):
See what I did for you there at least okay, yeah,
yeh yeah, yeah, yeah, I really I want to I
want to fast forward to tomorrow night when the game
is over and you show me what the final score is.
Neither the series is over or I'll feel a little
bit better going into the weekend.

Speaker 3 (13:34):
I've got someone at the end of my block that
if I give them my credit card, they they say
they can tell me my future.

Speaker 1 (13:41):
Okay, how does that? How does that?

Speaker 2 (13:43):
Okay?

Speaker 1 (13:44):
How does that help me?

Speaker 3 (13:46):
Well, I I go in and pretend to be you.

Speaker 1 (13:49):
I don't think that works. I think you trying to.

Speaker 3 (13:50):
Channel all the Knicks angst that it possibly can.

Speaker 1 (13:54):
You're gonna dress like Eddie Murphy and coming to America
with the Mets jacket and the Knicks hat and everything else. Hi,
I'm Jason Smith.

Speaker 3 (14:00):
If I sell, sell, sell, I'm wearing a Syracuse suit
and backwards ball cap that has a Mets logo on it.

Speaker 1 (14:09):
Mister McDowell, did you see the professional basketball game last
night between the Knicks of New York and the Pacers
of Indiana. The Pacers won by throwing a round ball
off the back of the rim where it bound straight
up into the air and it came back down and
the men who shot it choked everyone. Son, I tell
you it's one time you want to work here. Stay
off the drugs.

Speaker 5 (14:28):
Yes, yes, Jason, I gotta would you rather for you?

Speaker 3 (14:31):
Uh?

Speaker 5 (14:32):
Okay, boy, you rather rewatched that game again? Or fast
again like you did for your colonoscophy?

Speaker 1 (14:37):
Ooh, I would rather fast because I'm getting really good
at fasting. Everybody knowing. Yeah, I'm not gonna you know,
remember when we talked last week and you're like, k
or a few weeks ago, you're like, oh, you know,
intermittent fasting is really good, Like you know, I heard
about it, but you were like, yeah, you should do
like fifteen eighteen. I go, I can't do that, and
then I realized over the course last two weeks, Wait
a minute. Sometimes I'm fasting fifteen, fifteen, eighteen hours and

(14:59):
I don't eat, and I don't even think about it
because like I'll eat at six o'clock at night, and
then if I have a snack at nine, of a
snack at nine, but because I don't eat after that anymore.
Like by the time I go to sleep, wake up,
get ready for the day, I'm like, it's noon. I've
been fasting for fifteen hours. It doesn't even feel like
this is great. Yeah, no, I could do that.

Speaker 3 (15:15):
I've done standing up my completely unintentional you do it
standing on your head.

Speaker 1 (15:19):
One hundred percent? Who knew that? Good for you, that's awesome.
My way to make it happen, buddy, I'm proudited. I'm
worried about you, but I'm proud of you. I know.
But I'm telling you I'm not great, man, I'm not great.
I'll tell you right, I am not great. I'm not great.

Speaker 1 (16:13):
Yeah, every time I say goodbye goodbye to children, I
die a little. But coming up next, we have a
gigantic college football story today. You say you love the
college football playoff last year, great, because it's now officially
gonna change. That's next right here, Jason to Mike Fox
Sports Radio, Fox Sports Radio, The Jason Smith Show with

(16:36):
my best friend Mike Harmon.

Speaker 5 (16:37):
So one's for you, Jason, Wait for Jason.

Speaker 1 (16:41):
That's the one where it's about it I want to die.
I don't want to be alive.

Speaker 5 (16:46):
We get a jay.

Speaker 1 (16:49):
I mean, I don't know what this song's about because
I haven't heard it, didn't hear un till last night. But yeah,
that's kind of how I fell out for the Nicks
last night.

Speaker 3 (16:54):
He sounds kind of happy singing about it.

Speaker 1 (16:56):
Yeah, like he's found peace. Well, you know why I
don't have to watch a Nix Agan I've done I
often want We've ever seen something like that? Ever again?
Ever again?

the Thunder right now, seventy seven to sixty four over
the Tea Wolves. Will have more NBA coming up in
a bit, But a big change in college football this year.

(17:30):
If you love the playoff last year and who didn't, well,
it's going to change, and it's going to be a
good change because the twelve team college football Playoff is
going to move to a straight seeding model this fall,
rewarding the selection Committee's top four teams with the top
four seeds and a first round by now, if you
win your conference, you automatically make it. Right if you win,

(17:51):
if you win five, you know you get in, but
you don't automatically get one of the top four seeds.
It goes along record and how they feel, how good
your team is. This a move that needed to be
made considering how easy some of the paths were last
year for some teams, So this was a needed change.
Is it the last one? With us now in the
hot line? Nobody better? College football insider extraordinary, the owner,

(18:13):
proprietor editor in chief of College Footballnews dot com. You're
one stop shopping for everything college football. He's on Twitter
at Pete Futech. He will not mention the Knicks Spacers
game one. He's with us now what's happening, Bud?

Speaker 2 (18:27):
I will mention tonight's game though, as someone who grew
up in Minneapolis, so as I bring these sports, you know,
a spray all fields here, I can't be Payton in
that brush and other metaphors. Do you know that the
minute the city of Minneapolis, So the last time any
one of their team major Big four Sports teams made
a championship, not win got to a major championship with

(18:50):
the ninety one Twins, didn't.

Speaker 1 (18:52):
Didn't the Minnesota Lynks win a championship? I think the championship.

Speaker 2 (18:56):
Don't make don't make me say that thing out loud.
With a big four, No, the four major championships. That
is the one. Yah, the links you know? Okay, fine,
but like, but that's it's crazy because like every other
city that has like three or more of the big
sports sports teams, they've like won mega championship, even like

(19:16):
you kept Milwaukee in this if you're king Milwaukee, Green Bay, Toronto,
and it's crazy, how bad and how long suffering the
whole Minneapolis thing is when it comes to sports.

Speaker 1 (19:29):
Well, you really picked everybody up, right there, Pete. You're right,
I tell yeah. You are across the Midwest now if.

Speaker 2 (19:36):
You are an okay, see, man, this is big stuff.

Speaker 1 (19:38):
This is no great.

Speaker 3 (19:41):
Wait, he just spent fifteen minutes talking about his inner
turmoil over the last twenty four hours, right.

Speaker 2 (19:47):
I hang on, I was to help me out here
if my memory served. Everyone's dogging Halliburton, from which is
obviously hilarious. The choke and we all know what that
comes from It's funny, didn't did he do that? Like
was it like game three or four? It wasn't Game
seven or six?

Speaker 1 (20:04):
Right, Yeah, your nixt won the series, but no one
talks about that. It's all the choke thing and Spike
Reggie Miller, his whole career and what he's doing now
is made possible because of that moment.

Speaker 2 (20:16):
Yeah, I did the series after right, the next year
they did it, but like the whole the whole mistology
about the oh Haliberg did that in game one and
you know, yeah, but like I said, I could have
sworn that Reggie did that like his three or four
and it was not the thing. You're right, I forgot.
Then they they lost that series and the next year,
Ewing blows the lay up. Right, that's yeah, I've got

(20:36):
the crowds like, I'm sorry, I'm gonna be more fun
the playoffs. They made a good decision. Everyone's gonna be
happier now, it's gonna be better.

Speaker 1 (20:45):
No, I no, I like, I mean, look, we talked
about this when when the when it was going on
that hey, really not fair that just because you won
one of the weaker conferences you get the high seed,
you get the buye, you get a playoff game. This
is done fairly. Look, you win your conference, you win
your conference, should get in, which is great, right, I
believe that that's great. But now now, hey, we're gonna
seed according to how good the teams are. Okay, that

(21:06):
might get us better games in the first round and
not just blowouts like we saw last year. And when
the novel go off.

Speaker 2 (21:13):
You'll get blowouts. It'll just be different. It'll just be
you know, you're you're not gonna get because those those
twelve seeds, eleven twelve seats still gonna stuck. I mean,
you're still gonna have smu you know, let's throw them
a cookie. You know, they're gonna still get rocked by
you know, whatever SEC or big you know, Ohio State
or whoever they would have played. But like, yeah, you

(21:33):
had to do this. This is close the Oregon provision
where yes, okay, so Ohio State really was penned two
and they lost to Michigan and you know, but still,
if you're Oregon, hey congrats, you're the number one overall
speed in the tournament and your first game is against
that Ohio State team. That's not that's just staying right.
You know, that's just there's no advantage to that one

(21:57):
big winner continues to be notre dame. You just go
kind of and you're gonna probably be in this thing,
especially when the expanded sixteen. But it's good. I mean,
you're still gonna get blowouts because again that you know,
the ACC and big twelve champs goa always gonna be
a little iffy. But it's fine. But not what they
need to do is they need to reced it after
this and yet and yet to hear a good argument

(22:18):
as to why you can't recedu because it's not like
anything that's given. When it comes to you know, who's
gonna win those first round games. You can kind of
guess that the five, six, seven seeds are gonna win,
but you know for sure, So there's no reason because
the second round is playing the bull bulk game and
that going to a specific you know, uh, college campus,

(22:39):
so it's not fair necessarily. Still, if somehow that eleven
seed beats the five, it beats the sixth, and the
three seed gets to the you know, gets to eleven,
and the number one seed gets the eight to nine,
but that's kind of I have that feeling a NCA
tournament too, it should receive But I digress.

Speaker 3 (22:54):
What's going to be great about it, though, Pete is
you know, we always say a bubble teams for the
past tournament, it doesn't matter. But here we're talking tens
of millions of dollars if your team number seventeen eventually,
So this is next level stuff. The jockeying and politicking
that'll go on, it'll be brilliant.

Speaker 2 (23:12):
How about how about the five? You know, because now
before and they said this to everyone, everyone was crying
about Notre Dame last year. Oh well, now not to
Dame is kind of screwed because they you know, they
can't get into the top four because they didn't want to,
can't win a conference championship. And I was like, wait
a minute, yeah, but they also aren't gonna lose Carsons
back to an injury because they're playing some meaningless championship game.

(23:33):
They're gonna get three weeks off the rest, and you
get a home game instead of like again and bore
out because what happened they did. Instead of playing in
a conference championship, Notre Dame got their first you know,
basically got that game at home against Indiana Merry Christmas,
and then who is Oregon's Who is Oregon's first round game?
Ohio State? So like now that goes away. So now

(23:57):
Notre Dame can be a top four seeds. They get
a bye, so then they get best of all possible
worlds because if you're Notre Dames and you're an eleven
to one NORN eight team and you're fishing the top four,
you get like like two months off basically before you
have to do anything real. So so yeah, so there's
a lot of different courts for this.

Speaker 1 (24:16):
Pete futech ourgus college Footballnews dot com. All right, so
with this working out the way it is, right, we see,
this is gonna make a lot of people happy. The
next thing, I see the big problem is going to
be how do you deal with the teams that make
it to the conference championship and don't win, Because that's
gonna be the big sticky wicket, Like is that team

(24:36):
good enough? Hey, they got there. Maybe they weren't quite
as good enough, but they got there, but they lost.
So now they have three losses versus other teams that
have two losses. Like I think that's what expansion is
going to solve. If you get to sixteen teams, you
may have to do something like, hey, if you make
the conference championship games, all you do is make the
conference chap and you can get in, you know, to

(24:56):
the the to the playoffs. That might be the only
way to do it.

Speaker 2 (25:00):
At some point, you got to get to the point
of like when you get to we get to like
late you know, February and early March. Look, if you're
if you're basically if you're on any list of bubble teams,
you shouldn't be in, Like you really you can't make
a field of sixty eight and these sucks, and you
shouldn't be playing for the national championship. Same diff if
you're if you're the number seventeen on the seating range

(25:23):
of things, then you don't know you did something wrong.
You're not good enough, you're like the fifth best team
in the SEC, or you're you know, kind of the
team that lost the ACC championship. But I get it though,
I mean, the seating thing matters, and you're now really
kind it does matter to get that get that top
se So like your point, let's flip this roup forgetting

(25:44):
like the team like lose it. What happens if you're
like twelve and oh whatever, and you know you're in.
There's no chance you're you know you're good. You're Big
ten or SEC twelve and oh or eleven and one.
Then of course every coach is gonna be well, you
play for SEC championships around here, But really, why are you?
I mean, I guess you're gonna be in this tournament

(26:06):
no matter what, and maybe you don't want You're probably
no worse than a three seed, even if you'll lose,
you know, so like we're gonna get some more moments
where you're gonna load manager that those championis Capference championship games.

Speaker 3 (26:17):
All right, Pete. The other story that's been circling in
the background. You mentioned Notre Dame a couple of times.
This thing with USC their deal expires at the end
of twenty twenty five. Are we just gonna have a
series of one year contracts until the college football landscape settles.

Speaker 2 (26:33):
I think so, because it's starting to get way too brutal.
I mean, now you've got Notre Dame in Clemson, which
is becoming an annual thing now. So the a SEC,
which you know, Notredame has its friends with benefits to
deal with them. Now they kind of want to help
it up it a little more. Now they get a
key to a drawer or something, so they get they
get a little more in so that you're playing Clemson

(26:53):
every year. That's the thing because as you know, as
we've talked before, we'll talk again between now in the
next ninety eight days before the ball kicked off or
whatever it is, is that it's all about schedules and
then the acc you know, which is not the Big
Ten or the SEC or even the Big twelve. It
sucks if you get Notre Dame this year, you know,
because like if you get Clemson, that's bad. Obviously, you

(27:14):
know what that in Miami is gonna be really good.
But if you're one of those teams that gets a
quote non conference game against Notre Dame, that's that's that's
a raw deal. So now they kind of finalize that
a little bit. But yeah, for people like us, you know,
who are old and care about these sort of things.
The whole idea of Notre Dame us he is really
really cool. But as we've seen with past big time

(27:36):
rivalries that it's fine and then they don't happen, and
then you kind of forget and everything turned on to
be Okay, hey, Pete.

Speaker 1 (27:43):
Lastly, obviously it's it's a it's a daily soap opera
with different twists and turns. Where are you right now
as to how things are gonna go with Bill Belichick
this year at North Carolina?

Speaker 2 (27:54):
Oh you know my stance? You know, good for you, man, Hey,
if you're gonna be probably dead within the next fifteen
years or so, wow, why not knock it out? You know,
if you're that old and you've got twenty four year
old interested in you, good, good, go for him, a man,
not go be great. But here's the thing about this,
I never right now. It's the soap opera. It's also

(28:15):
lacious and it's all, you know, weird. But look at
that North Carolina schedule. Find me the loss. They're gonna
go to Clemson. That's like the one game that they
have a real nasty game. But this seems okay, it's
not that good. But if you're looking for who's this
year is SMU or who's this year is Indiana, well

(28:35):
we might be in mid November, and your question to
me is going to be, like, can Bill Belichick really
make the college football playoffs in his first year. They're
nine and one, and it's like all this other stuff
will kind of be forgotten about.

Speaker 1 (28:47):
He's on Twitter at Pete Feutech. That is at Pete
Feutech everything you need college footballnews dot com. That's college
footballnews dot com, including at ten thousand word preview. Have
Notre Dame in Wisconsin's game lambeau Field coming in twenty
twenty six, Pete, that's always not twenty because it's true.

(29:09):
See if we'll talk to you next week. Okay, Fox
Sports Radio, the Jason Smith Show, if my best friend
Mike Harmon.

Speaker 5 (29:18):
They're sorry, Jason, I know.

Speaker 1 (29:20):
I'm sorry too. I'm sorry too. They had a good run.
Still not great, Bob, not great. The day after not great,
not great. But we have more NBA coming up in
a few minutes. But the after effects the last twenty
four hours since the NFL announced a lot of big

(29:41):
changes coming to the league this year, right, and the
biggest one has been the Tush push lives Right. Yeah,
a bit a bit overrated story, Like I think that
this became got too much attention for what it is.
It nearly passes to be banned, but it falls just short.
Twenty two to ten today already the Eagles have been

(30:04):
selling push on t shirts, which is just a T
shirt with a video of Hurts about to take the
snap in the tush push formation. Apparently Gritty Gritty is
running the Eagle social media account. Now, hey, just got
it all right here, Gritty's doing it. Gritty's got it. Yeah.

Speaker 3 (30:19):
But they had a billboard up in Philadelphia like eight
minutes after the vote came. Now, oh yeah, but doesn't
it feel like, you know, there's so much attention to
being paid to this one, which is nothing Burger that
it's like a bill going through Congress, like, well, obviously
you should put a stop sign there, and then in
line like two point fifty two, there's some other thing
that gets approved in the process. Like what are they

(30:40):
trying to sneak in? What's the thing that's gonna kill
us all that's getting sneaked into the bill? Well, I'll
tell you what's what's killing them all? Because you bring up,
you bring up. The point with all of this is that, yes,
is it. It's a little bit overrated for a play that, yes,
two years ago almost unstoppable, a little bit less unstoppable
this year. Just ask the bill and Josh Allen, who

(31:01):
ran it really well, what happened? You need that first
down against the Chiefs. I mean, I know the official
came from the chief sideline to overrule it, but I
mean it's not absolutely unstoppable. It's a play that needs
fourth and one or less to to to execute.

Speaker 1 (31:12):
I get you're mad about it, but you know, as
you just said, Philadelphia's already got custom gear on it.
There were uh billboards up about it right after the
decision came down. They get to keep it. Jeffrey Lourie
said in the in the meeting yesterday with the owners,
it's it's a I mean, he had a bad analogy,
but he said, it's it's either we get this band
because it's too good, or we get to continue to

(31:34):
run a play that we invented. That that that is
changing the NFL. What the NFL and what teams that
don't that, that don't want the tush push don't realize
and they need to, is that all winning teams have
that little special something about them that galvanizes them. Right.
Look back last year the Mets had Grimace and OMG,
now was that a really big deal?

Speaker 4 (31:56):
No?

Speaker 1 (31:56):
But it was it was something outside of the White
Life lines that Hey, everybody on the team can buy
into and everybody feels like it's us against them, right,
it's a great thing. Every every winning team has their thing, right,
Like when your White Sox won, they play don't stop
believing right in the in the co op, after every
single after every single win. In the locker room. Steve

(32:18):
Perry was singing with them when they won the World Series, Like,
all teams have their thing. The NFL leave the tush
push alone, because you are galvanizing the Eagles into making
this their identity, and you need anything spurs them on. Hey,
they hate us, they hate the tush push. They're rallying
around this and it's making them stronger. All good teams
have that thing. The NFL just let it go, Just

(32:40):
let it go, let them run it, stop it on
the field, whatever happens that let it go. Man, it's
not that big a play. It's not like on third
and three they can convert all the time. But you are.
You are empowering the Eagles, You're empowering the fan base,
everything around the team. You're making it crackle, and this
spurs them on, and it's a thing that they have.
The Eagles have that they're able to use to their benefit,

(33:02):
and the NFL needs to realize that this is what's
helping the Eagles along and helping them with their excellence.
Every little bit you can use is an addition.

Speaker 3 (33:10):
Well, that's just it, right. You got to find find
your wins, find your your motivation. Whatever it might be
a headline someone talking bad about you, just you didn't
like the look someone gave you as you walk down
the street. In this case, they they lean into this
and now their merchandise. Again, Hey, everybody gets paid. Maybe
maybe the rest of the league says, hey, we want

(33:32):
our cut.

Speaker 1 (33:33):
But all of that to say, are.

Speaker 3 (33:35):
We going to flag football eventually? Because second, there's not
a lot of sexiness in most run plays, So should
we get rid of those two dive into the line.
Let's just do all of it right, half back dive
for a third. You know a third yard gain isn't
sexy either, get it?

Speaker 1 (33:53):
Guns at an exit out about a Fresca exit? Swollen dumb.
