Speaker 2 (00:23):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 1 (00:27):
Greetings, Welcome inside the Jason Smith Show with my best
friend Mike Harmon. And to start, no, I am no
better today than I was last night. You thought today
the whole No, no, do not play that song. No, no,
I've done no, absolutely the same, absolutely, well a day

(00:48):
is gone, but no, no, no, especially when I had
to see that oh Tarre's Halliburton double dribbled on his
FA on the final player regulation.

Speaker 3 (00:55):
Okay, that's great.

Speaker 4 (00:56):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (00:56):
Does it make you feel better that he's fouled before
he dribbled again? I mean you ran through him.

Speaker 1 (01:01):
No, doesn't make no, no, nothing. Nothing made me feel
better today. I'm exactly this.

Speaker 2 (01:05):
Do you have a nice sandwich?

Speaker 3 (01:07):
Yes?

Speaker 1 (01:07):
I mean the times I was able to get away
from things today it was great. But where else can
I go It's the biggest story of the day, a
biggest story in the NBA.

Speaker 3 (01:15):
This story.

Speaker 1 (01:16):
They could run that play on a loop. It'll do
higher ratings than Game two of Thunder and the te Wolves.

Speaker 2 (01:21):
Oh, there's no question about it. I actually got asked
about it doing a spot that I do every week
in Baltimore, going back about fifteen sixteen years whatever it is,
goes producer saw something your guy Jason Smith saying it's
the worst loss ever, and I go, all right, I'll
play along. You're an Orioles guy, right, It's like, yeah,
it's like, what were your expectations for this year? Like

(01:44):
really high? Like what did you just do? Fired the manager?
All right, case close, what's the next topic? That's the
way it is for the Knicks.

Speaker 3 (01:53):
It was.

Speaker 1 (01:53):
I didn't want to read on it. I didn't want
to click on anything involving the game. There could have
been a heading for a story on the internet too
that said Nicks Pacers Game one breakdown also contains the
secret to Eternal life, and I would not have clicked
on it. I would have said, nope, I'm fine, I'm fine.
Not if I have to read that whole thing to

(02:14):
get to the secret for No, I don't need it.
I'll figure out eternal life someplace else.

Speaker 3 (02:18):
I've hear. I saw all those out I read the headline.

Speaker 1 (02:20):
Was I guarantee you if you if you read till
the end of this Knicks Pacers recap of game two,
you can you can hit this bar code and we
will send five million dollars to the bank account of
your choice.

Speaker 3 (02:31):
I would say, let somebody else have it. Not gonna
do it.

Speaker 1 (02:34):
I had to, I could anytime it got near me
on the internet, on TV, click move, looked away. One
time I tried to change the channe. I'm like, I'm
just gonna look away. What am I doing?

Speaker 3 (02:42):
What am I doing? Why do I just closing my eyes?
Why just closing my out? I don't need to see it.
I don't need to see it.

Speaker 2 (02:47):
No, not watching cartoons, man, No, not great. I don't
think they made it a cartoon yet for you. But
I think you know it's one of those you'd be
really mad if you opened up an article and start
reading and all of a sudden they spoiled the meaning
of life for you.

Speaker 3 (03:03):
It's like if they.

Speaker 2 (03:04):
Didn't tell me it was a spoiler alert. Well, it
was how do I now go the rest of my day?
I don't know. I mean I had to get it
all figured out. What's the point of everything else?

Speaker 4 (03:13):
Then?

Speaker 3 (03:13):
Yeah, but it was just the meaning of life.

Speaker 1 (03:15):
I don't know if that's you know, I don't know
if that's gonna be something. Okay, meaning of life is great.
But I was like, oh, okay, but if you're give
me the secret to eternal life, oh that's fine.

Speaker 3 (03:24):
Yeah, but I don't want it.

Speaker 2 (03:26):
I don't need it. But here's the problem is you'd
finish that article and it would say continued on page eighteen,
and you'd go back to page eighteen and to be
a full page ad for the latest final destination movie
How Did Cheat Death?

Speaker 1 (03:39):
For over forty years, tire Rack's been helping customers find
the right tires for how, what and where they drive,
shipped fast and free back by the free road hazard protection,
with convenient installation options like mobile tire installation, tire rack
dot Com the way tire buying should be. And coming up,
we have the tire Rack Play of the Day, a
tire dot Com play of the day coming up in
forty five minutes, and it will.

Speaker 3 (04:00):
Not be a replay of the Halliburton play from last night.

Speaker 5 (04:03):
No, Haliburton inbounded it right to Towns who couldn't get
the three pointer off in time, and the Pacers get
the job done, walking off with their heads held high,
stunning this whole Nick crowd.

Speaker 3 (04:14):
Yeah yeah, okay, that's great.

Speaker 2 (04:15):
I mean that was a bigger troll move than the
choke job thing, the joke job. I mean, you would
expect the here. You can't really take a shot with
point two blank. You move takes it to a whole
other level, didn't it.

Speaker 3 (04:29):
You know what I mean it, buddy, I can't. I
can't do it, man.

Speaker 1 (04:33):
I want to hit fast forward until Game two is
over tomorrow night, which the Knicks will probably lose by
twenty I mean, really, the only thing, and I'll give
you this, right, we'll get to the we'll get to
the Thunder and the Pacers of the Pacers. I can'top
take another pacer to the Thunder the te wolves in
a second. The only thing that allowed me to get
up today sports wise, right and and have a day.

Speaker 3 (04:52):
Until until I saw the replay.

Speaker 1 (04:53):
Oh yeah, Haliburton completely double drup because I thought the
ball got knocked out of his hands when had happened.

Speaker 3 (04:58):
I'm like, oh, okay, well ball got knocked out of
his hand. He's getting Oh no, no, no, no.

Speaker 1 (05:01):
You see that big slow mo NFL films replay like
the chauffeur of a large limousine content to let the
pods do the driving.

Speaker 3 (05:09):
Oh no, no, no, that just fell out of his hands.
No call. What got me out of bed today was this?
Was it?

Speaker 1 (05:15):
The way Indiana celebrated and seemed so way overly self
satisfied after that game was over. Right, you had the
Halliburton choke at the end of regulation. Right, you had
them running on the court like they just qualified for
the NBA Finals, didn't just win Game one. Players all
laughing during the interviews after the game, even Rick Carlyle,

(05:38):
who usually only likes to stick the knife into the officials,
sticking the knife into the Knick, saying, ah, you know,
it's emotional. Halliburton's earned the right to do whatever he wants. Okay, okay,
because if I'm the Knicks, I'm like anger and inside
out by this steam is going through my ears, going okay,
you want to.

Speaker 3 (05:54):
Honk it up and do the choke thing and do that?

Speaker 1 (05:56):
Okay, it's game one like, that's the thing that got
me up today that if I had any concern that
the Knicks can just get up and start spewing blood
and be ready for the rest of this series, have
a complete attitude and game adjustment. That's the one thing
that's the one silver line in that. Boy, Indiana really
seems like they were ready, like they were celebrating, like
they won Game seven. Now that being said, again, where

(06:19):
do you go after that loss? Teams were one thy
four hundred and fourteen wins and zero losses leading by
nine or more with fifty seconds left in regulation since
the NBA started keeping track in nineteen ninety five, fourteen
hundred up and zero down, which is what I keep
going back to go, how are.

Speaker 3 (06:37):
We going to come back from that? How? How did
the Nicks come back from that? But my dad is
my silver line that.

Speaker 1 (06:41):
Boy, the Pacers really looked like they I don't want
to say they awaken to sleeping giant because it's Look,
it's the NBA, it's the Eastern Conference Finals. But boy,
if you needed something else to show you about bearing
down mentally and playing and playing bigger and making sure
that you don't have any laps at the end of
the game and watching Ogano Nobi just lay off of
every time I'm nee Smith got the ball to let

(07:01):
him shoot a three, Like, I don't know what else
there is there. That's the one silver lining I had
in the day today.

Speaker 2 (07:06):
Yeah, No, a lot of battles on that sideline. Tibbs
went through the throat laws and just screaming, would somebody
get out on this man? Kat always a step too slow.
You look at the overhead views over the shot chart,
you do the overlay a lot of wide open spaces
for open threes, so I gotta think the close out

(07:29):
to better. The other thing is, look, I know you
only go seven deep, which means you've got a couple
of folks that might be able to give you a
hard follow or two and really not affect any other
part of the game. So just saying, maybe, you know,
we've been talking a lot about the tush push and
rugby scrums, and I'm tougher than you. Let's hire a
bunch of the Samoan guys from the WWE and the

(07:52):
Bloodline to block for you.

Speaker 6 (07:55):
I'm just saying, maybe they've come out to set a
screen or two tomorrow night to make folks think a
little bit as they're moving around the defensive perimeter. Just
just saying, maybe maybe you get a little bit of that,
but yeah, you're you're not gonna give up that many
wide open shots.

Speaker 2 (08:11):
Again, Nie Smith had the game of his life. No,
he did score twenty five against the Knicks. Going back
to a game at the end of December, I'm.

Speaker 3 (08:18):
Not helping, not helping, you're not helping.

Speaker 2 (08:20):
Well, I'm just saying it's but it's one data plot.
It's one plot. Okay, I'm trying. I'm trying to say
on the large st, the guy had eight twenty point
games all year long. I don't think he's suddenly a
guy that's gonna be a lights out dead eye shooter,
you know, like Hawkeye, like our guy Jeremy Renner, that

(08:40):
he's he's not coming back for a season two. I
don't think just like Jeremy Renner.

Speaker 1 (08:46):
Again, this will only do so much for me, buddy,
This will only try it.

Speaker 2 (08:51):
But I know I ordered some Geordonald's it'll be here
next week. And I know I know you know I
got that going for us.

Speaker 1 (08:57):
I know you trying, man, but I mean, really, I'm
not gonna and I don't know how am I gonna
feel if the Knicks win Game two?

Speaker 3 (09:03):
Oh, I feel better.

Speaker 1 (09:04):
Okay, they got they got it back, but I'll feel
they should be two games to none. But would it
be two games to none if they didn't have whatever
fire they have tomorrow night for giving away game? There's
nothing there, There's there's nothing. There's nothing that can make
me feel better shortage short of they beat the Pacers
and go on to the NBA Finals.

Speaker 3 (09:20):
That's it. And I feel like it's gonna be a
sweep now, because.

Speaker 1 (09:22):
Again, how do you come back from with a fourteen
point lead and two minutes and fifty seconds left. NBA
teams were nine hundred and seventy seven and oh, since
they've been keeping track in since nineteen ninety.

Speaker 2 (09:34):
Tattoo those on your on your fingers those I got
one hand into instead of love. It says one four
one four and the other one says ninety seven seven?
What are we doing? Powell?

Speaker 3 (09:45):
You're like you got you gotta let it go?

Speaker 1 (09:47):
Like the sideshow Bob when he had Bart's name on
the tattooed on.

Speaker 2 (09:50):
His exactly deep Bart d straight out straight out of
a little little cape fear for us all.

Speaker 3 (09:58):
But it stands for the bart the oh okay, oh
that's right.

Speaker 2 (10:01):
Yeah, So I know it's it's been a tough twenty
not great, but Jack donya earlier, I mean, you vetoed
my idea that you know, this was the day to
let everybody just you know, like Luke Skywalker standing there
and they opened the cannons and really just start firing
and firing and then he brushes off his shoulder and
all that that maybe we just opened the phone lines

(10:23):
for four hours and just sit back and let people
onload on you.

Speaker 3 (10:27):
Fire every cannon on that man, every cannon.

Speaker 2 (10:32):
He's not running the office.

Speaker 1 (10:36):
I'll continue to be not great for a while. But
right now, let's get to the game happening. Middle of
the third quarter, sixty eight to sixty one, Thunder looking
to take a two games to non lead. It was
a slow start for Shay Gilgess Alexander, but now leading
the way with twenty one points, making a five point lead.

Speaker 3 (10:53):
Now sixty eight to sixty three.

Speaker 1 (10:55):
Minnesota coming out like we thought last night, and we
picked this game and we gave our big picks for DraftKings.
I said, look, give me the over for Anthony Edwards.
He knows that he had a game in Game one
that he needed to play better. He needed to do more,
he needed to bring more to the table. This is
the thing about Ann Edwards. He doesn't play with the
consistency that the great NBA players all play with. You

(11:15):
want to make a Michael Jordan, Well, he can't show
up for four out of six games in a playoff series,
so we knew this had to.

Speaker 3 (11:21):
Be a bigger game.

Speaker 1 (11:22):
He is playing extremely well over the course of the
last few minutes, helping get the t Wolves back in
this He's at eighteen eight and four, shooting eight for
nineteen from the floor, still not hitting threes but that happens,
but still leading the way now for the t Wolves
because he's got to do this right. But this hearkens
back to why I picked the Thunder in the beginning,
is that you need your best players to be great
throughout an entire series. And I have confidence that even

(11:44):
when SGA is getting shut down or they're doing things
to slow him, he finds a way to impact the game.
He gets to the free throw a lot, He does
a lot of different things, and Ann Edwards doesn't do
it quite as often. He has those couple of games
a series where boy, he really needed to be if
we were gonna win. And you can't give the Thunder
games like that because they're just two good. So still

(12:05):
a five point lead for the Thunder right now, six
and a half to go in.

Speaker 2 (12:07):
The third twenty one for SGA got his MVP love
and you hear the chant all night long. Also five
assists in this one, moving the ball around quite well.
Williams with fifteen thus far, seven of eleven shooting the
other side. Right, we talk about Edwards and the need
to be aggressive one of seven from three. But where

(12:30):
where they need some help? They they've gotten McDaniel's going.
But Julius Randall just two of nine thus far after
that huge game one, so.

Speaker 1 (12:39):
True, clearly he's affected by the next giving away game
in a great game and now he's two for nine.
He can't hit it three, he stays, I'm telling you
it's like they're all sharing the same brain still. And
when you know it's like space jam, when when when
they when the bodies go out, the bodies go out.

Speaker 3 (12:54):
All of them, all across the board. That's what happens.

Speaker 2 (12:56):
Wow, it just took down the entire network, just like
at like someone flipped the switch. Julius Randall, your guy.

Speaker 3 (13:05):
I mean telling you, man, that's that's how it works.
That's how it works.

Speaker 1 (13:08):
The Nick, the Knicks, they they they bring you up
really high and then they bring it down really really low,
just so so very low.

Speaker 2 (13:15):
Well, but that's it's okay. I mean you still have
at least three more chances. See what I did for
you there at least.

Speaker 1 (13:21):
Okay, yeah, yea, yeah, yeah, yeah, I really I want to.
I want to fast forward to tomorrow night when the
game is over and you show me what the final
score is. Neither the series is over or I'll feel
a little bit better going into the weekend.

Speaker 2 (13:33):
I've got someone at the end of my block that
if I give them my credit card, they say they
can tell me my future.

Speaker 3 (13:40):
Okay, how does that? How does that? Okay? How does
that help me?

Speaker 2 (13:45):
Well, I I go in and pretend to be you.

Speaker 3 (13:48):
I don't think that works. I think you're trying to.

Speaker 2 (13:50):
Channel all the Knicks angst that it possibly can.

Speaker 1 (13:53):
You're gonna dress like Eddie Murphy and coming to America
with the Mets jacket and the Knicks hat.

Speaker 3 (13:57):
And everything else.

Speaker 2 (13:58):
Hi, I'm Jason Smith cell, I'm wearing a Syracuse suit
and backwards ball cap that has a Mets logo on it.

Speaker 1 (14:08):
Mister McDowell, did you see the professional basketball game last
night between the Knicks of New York and the Paces
of Indiana. The Pacers won by throwing a round ball
off the back of the rim where it bound straight
up into the air and it came back down and
the men who shot it choked everyone.

Speaker 3 (14:22):
Son, I tell you it's one time you want to
work here. Stay off the drugs. Yes, yes, Jason, I
gotta would you rather for you?

Speaker 2 (14:30):
Uh?

Speaker 3 (14:31):
Okay, boy? Have you rather.

Speaker 1 (14:33):
Rewatched that game again or fast again like you did
for your colonoscopy? Ooh, I would rather fast because I'm
getting really good at fasting everybody knowing.

Speaker 3 (14:41):
Yeah, I'm not gonna You know.

Speaker 1 (14:42):
Remember when we talked last week and you're like, k
or a few weeks ago, you're like, oh, you know,
intermittent fasting is really good, Like you know, I heard
about it, but you were like.

Speaker 3 (14:48):
Yeah, you should do like fifteen eighteen.

Speaker 1 (14:50):
I go, I can't do that, And then I realized
over the course of last two weeks, wait a minute,
sometimes I'm fasting fifteen, fifteen, eighteen hours, and I don't eat,
and I don't even think about it because like I'll
eat at six o'clock at night, and then if I
have a snack at nine, I'm a snack at nine.
But because I don't eat after that anymore. Like by
the time I go to sleep, wake up, get ready
for the day, I'm like, it's noon. I've been fasting

(15:10):
for fifteen hours. It doesn't even feel like this is great. Yeah, no,
I could do that.

Speaker 2 (15:14):
I've done standing up my completely unintentional you do it
standing on your head one hundred percent?

Speaker 3 (15:19):
Who knew that? Good for you, that's awesome.

Speaker 2 (15:21):
My way to make it happen. Buddy, I'm proxcited. I'm
worried about you. But I'm proud of you. I know.

Speaker 3 (15:26):
But I'm telling you I'm not great, man, I'm not great.
I'll tell you right, I am not great. I'm not great.

I haven't heard it, didn't hear it till last night.

Speaker 3 (16:59):
But yeah, that's kind of how I the Nicks last night.

Speaker 2 (17:02):
Happy singing about it again, like, well, you know why
I don't have to watch the Knicks again.

Speaker 3 (17:06):

the Thunder right now, seventy seven sixty four over the
Tea Wolves. We'll have more NBA coming up in a bit.
But a big change in college football this year. If

(17:36):
you love the playoff last year and who didn't, well,
it's gonna change, and it's going to be a good
change because the twelve team college football playoff is going
to move to a straight seting model this fall, rewarding
the selection committee's top four teams with the top four
seeds and the first round. By now, if you win
your conference, you automatically make it right if you win,

(17:57):
if you win five, you know you get in, but
you don't automatically get one of the top four seeds.
It goes along record and how they feel, how good
your team is. This a move that needed to be
made considering how easy some of the paths were last
year for some teams, So this was a needed change.

Speaker 3 (18:12):
Is it the last one? With us now in the hotline?
Nobody better?

Speaker 1 (18:17):
College football insider extraordinary, the owner, proprietor editor in chief
of College Footballnews dot com. You're one stop shopping for
everything college football. He is on Twitter at Pete fu Tech.
He will not mention the Knickspacers game one. He's with
us now what's happening, Bud?

Speaker 7 (18:33):
I will mention tonight's game though, as someone who grew
up in Minneapolis, so as I bring these sports, you know,
a spray all fields too.

Speaker 4 (18:41):
I can't be Payton in that rush and other metaphors.

Speaker 7 (18:44):
Do you know that the minute the city of Minneapolis,
So the last time any one of their team. Major
Big four sports teams made a championship, not win got
to a major championship with the ninety one Twins.

Speaker 3 (18:58):
Didn't the Minnesota Links win a championship? I think the championship.

Speaker 7 (19:02):
Don't make don't make me say that thing out loud.
With a Big four, No, the four major championships, that
is the one. You know, the Links, you know, Okay, fine,
but like, but that's it. It's crazy because every other
city that has like three or more of the big
sports sports teams, they've like won mega championship even like

(19:23):
you kept Milwaukee in this if you're kiny Milwaukee, Green Bay, Toronto,
And it's crazy, how bad and how long suffering the
whole Minneapolis thing is when it comes to sports.

Speaker 3 (19:36):
Well, you really picked everybody up, right there, Pete.

Speaker 1 (19:38):
You're right, I tell yeah, you are across the Midwest
now if you are.

Speaker 4 (19:42):
An okay man, this is big stuff.

Speaker 2 (19:44):
This is right. He just spent fifteen minutes talking about
his inner turmoil over the last twenty four hours, Right,
I hang on, I.

Speaker 7 (19:56):
Was t help me out here if my memory third,
everyone's dogging Haliburton from which is obviously hilarious. The choke
and we all know what that comes from.

Speaker 4 (20:05):
It's funny. Didn't Reddy do that?

Speaker 7 (20:07):
Like was it like game three or four?

Speaker 4 (20:09):
It wasn't Game seven or six?

Speaker 1 (20:11):
Right, Yeah, your next won the series, but no one
talks about that. It's all the choke thing and Spike
Reggie Miller. His whole career and what he's doing now
is made possible because of that moment.

Speaker 7 (20:22):
Yeah, I had the series after right, the next year
they did it, but like the whole the home mistology
about the oh Haliburt did that in game one and all.
You know, Yeah, but like I said, I could have
sworn that Reggie did that like in three or four
and it was not the thing.

Speaker 4 (20:36):
You're right, I forgot.

Speaker 7 (20:37):
Then they they lost that series and the next year
Ewing blows the lay up.

Speaker 4 (20:41):
Right, that's yeah, I've got the crowd, dude, Like, I'm sorry,
I'm gonna be more.

Speaker 7 (20:45):
Fun the COT playoffs. They made a good decision. Everyone's
gonna be happier now, it's gonna be better.

Speaker 1 (20:52):
No, I no, I Like, I mean, look, we talked
about this when when the when it was going on
that hey, really not fair that just because you won
one of the weaker conferences you get the high seed,
you get the buye, you get.

Speaker 3 (21:02):
A playoff game. This has done fairly.

Speaker 1 (21:04):
Look, you win your conference, you win your conference, you
get in, which is great, right, I believe that that's great.
But now now, hey, we're gonna seed according to how
good the teams are. Okay, that might get us better
games in the first round. They're not just blowouts like
we saw last year. And when the novelty it's.

Speaker 7 (21:18):
Gonna go off, you'll get blowouts. It'll just be different.
It'll just be you know, you're you're not gonna get
because those those twelve seeds on the twelve seats still
gonna stuck. I mean, you're still gonna have smu. You know,
let's throw them a cookie. You know, they're gonna still
get rocked by you know, whatever SEC or big you know,
Ohio Steed.

Speaker 4 (21:36):
Or whoever they would have played.

Speaker 7 (21:38):
But like, yeah, you had to do this. This is
cos the Oregon provision where yes, okay, so Ohio State
really was tennant two and they lost to Michigan and
you know, but still if you're Oregon, hey congrats, you're
the number one overall seed in the tournament and your
first game is against that Ohio state team. That's not

(21:58):
that's just staying right, you know, that's there's no advantage
to that one. Uh, big winner continues to be notre dame.
You know, just go ten and two and you're gonna
probably be in this thing, especially in the expand of sixteen.

Speaker 4 (22:09):
But it's good.

Speaker 7 (22:10):
I mean, you're still gonna get blowouts because again that
you know, the ACC and big twelve champs is gonna
always gonna be a little iffy.

Speaker 4 (22:18):
But it's fine. But not what they need to do
is they need to reced it after.

Speaker 7 (22:22):
This and yet and yet to hear a good argument
as to why you can't reced uh, because it's not
like anything that's given when it comes to you know,
who's gonna win those first round games. You can kind
of guess that the five, six, seven seeds are gonna win,
but you're for sure, So there's no reason because the
second round is playing the bolt both game and that
going with a specific you know, uh college campus. So

(22:46):
it's not fair necessarily. Still, if somehow that eleven seed
beats the five, it beats the sixth, and the three
seed gets to the you know, gets to eleven and
the number one seed gets the eight nine. But that's
kind of I have that seeing a nca tournament too.

Speaker 4 (22:59):
It should received I digress.

Speaker 2 (23:01):
What's gonna be great about it? Though, Pete is you
know we always say, ah, bubble teams for the basketball tournament,
it doesn't matter. But here we're talking tens of millions
of dollars of your team number seventeen eventually. So this
is next level stuff. The jockeying and politicking that'll go on,
it'll be brilliant.

Speaker 4 (23:18):
How about how about the five?

Speaker 7 (23:20):
You know, because now before and they said this to everyone,
everyone was crying about Notre Dame last year. Oh well no, no,
day is kind of screwed because they you know, they
can't get into the top four because they didn't want
I can't win a conference championship. And I was like,
wait a minute, yeah, but they also aren't gonna lose
Carson back to an injury because they're playing some meaningless
championship game. They're gonna get three weeks off the rest

(23:42):
and you get a home game instead of like again,
as bore up, because what happened they did, instead of
playing in a conference championship, Notre Dame got their first.

Speaker 4 (23:51):
You know, basically got that game at home.

Speaker 7 (23:53):
Against Indiana'm Merry Christmas. And then who is Oregon's first
Who is Oregon's first round game?

Speaker 4 (24:00):
Ohio State? So like, now that goes away.

Speaker 7 (24:03):
So now Notre Dame can be a top four seed
and they get a bye.

Speaker 4 (24:07):
So then they get.

Speaker 7 (24:08):
Best of all possible worlds because if you're Notre Dames
and you're an eleven to one nor eight team and
you're fishing the top four, you get like like two
months off basically before you have to do anything real.
So so yeah, so there's a lot of different courts
for this.

Speaker 1 (24:22):
Pete futec ourgus college Footballnews dot com. All right, so
with this working out the way it is, right, we see,
this is gonna make a lot of people happy. The
next thing, I see, the big problem is going to
be how do you deal with the teams that make
it to the conference championship and don't win, Cause that's
gonna be the big sticky wickt Like is that team

(24:43):
good enough?

Speaker 3 (24:43):
Hey, they got there.

Speaker 1 (24:45):
Maybe they weren't quite as good enough, but they got there,
but they lost. So now they have three losses versus
other teams that have two losses. Like, I think that's
what expansion is going to solve. If you get to
sixteen teams, you may have to do something like, hey,
if you make the conference championship, all you do is
make the contentat and you can get in, you know,
to the to the playoffs.

Speaker 3 (25:04):
That might be the only way to do it.

Speaker 4 (25:06):
At some point.

Speaker 7 (25:06):
You got to get to the point of like when
you get to we get to like late you know, late.

Speaker 4 (25:11):
February and early March.

Speaker 7 (25:12):
Look, if you're if you're basically if you're on any
list of bubble teams, you shouldn't be in, Like you
really you can't make a field of sixty eight and
you sucks, and you shouldn't be playing for the national championship.
Same diff if you're if you're the number seventeen on
the seating range of things, then you.

Speaker 4 (25:31):
Don't you know, you did something wrong.

Speaker 7 (25:33):
You're not good enough if you're like the fifth best
team in the SEC, or you're you know, kind of
the team that lost the ACC championship. But I get
it though, I mean the seating thing matters, and you're
now really kind of does matter to get that get
that top seam. So like your point, let's flip this
up forgetting like the team like lose it. What happens
if you're like twelve to zero whatever and you know

(25:57):
you're in, there's no chance you're you know you're going
you're Big ten or SEC twelve and oh or eleven
and one. Then of course every coach is gonna be well,
we play for SEC championships around here. But really, why
are you? I mean, I guess you're gonna be in
this tournament no matter what, and maybe you don't want
You're probably no worse than a three seed even if
you'll lose. You know, so like we're gonna get some

(26:19):
more moments where you're gonna load manager that those champions
Caference championship games.

Speaker 2 (26:23):
All right, Pete, the other story that's been circling in
the background. You mentioned Notre Dame a couple of times.
This thing with USC their deal expires at the end
of twenty twenty five. Are we just gonna have a
series of one year contracts until the college football landscape settles.

Speaker 4 (26:39):
I think so, because it's starting to get way too brutal.

Speaker 7 (26:41):
I mean, now you've got Notre Dame.

Speaker 4 (26:43):
In Clemson, which is becoming.

Speaker 7 (26:46):
An annual thing.

Speaker 4 (26:47):
Now.

Speaker 7 (26:47):
Uh so the a SEC, which you know, Notredaan has
its friends with benefits to deal with them. Now they
kind of want to.

Speaker 4 (26:53):
Help it up it a little more.

Speaker 7 (26:54):
Now they get a key to a drawer or something,
so they get they get a little more in So
you're playing Clemson every year, that's the thing because as
you know, as we've talked before, we'll talk again between
now in the next ninety eight days.

Speaker 4 (27:05):
Before the ball kicks off.

Speaker 7 (27:06):
Or whatever it is, is that it's all about schedules
and then the acc you know, which is not the
Big ten or the SEC or even the Big twelve.
It sucks if you get Notre Dame this year, you know,
because like if you get Clemson, that's bad. Obviously, you
know what that in Miami is gonna be really good.
But if you're one of those teams that gets a
quote non conference game against Notre Dame, that's that's that's

(27:29):
a raw deal.

Speaker 4 (27:30):
So now they kind of finalize that a little bit.

Speaker 7 (27:33):
But yeah, for people like us, you know, who are
old and care about these sort of things. The whole
idea of Notre Dame us he is really really cool.
But as we've seen with past big time rivalries that
it's fine. And then they don't happen, and then you
kind of forget and everything turned on to be okay, hey, Pete.

Speaker 1 (27:50):
Lastly, obviously it's it's a it's a daily soap opera.

Speaker 3 (27:53):
With different twists and turns.

Speaker 1 (27:55):
Where are you right now as to how things are
gonna go with Bill Belichick this year at North Carolina?

Speaker 7 (28:00):
Oh you know my stance? You know, good for you, man, Hey,
if you're gonna probably be dead within the next fifteen
years or so, wow, why not knock it out? You know,
if you're that old and you've got twenty four year
old interested in you, good, good, go.

Speaker 4 (28:15):
For him, man, not go be great.

Speaker 7 (28:17):
But here's the thing about this, and never right now,
it's a soap opera. It's all salacious and it's all,
you know, weird. But look at that North Carolina schedule.
Find me the loss. They're here to go to Clemson.
That's like the one game that they have a real
nasty game. But it seems okay, it's not that good.
But if you're looking for who's this year is SMU

(28:38):
or who's this year is Indiana, Well we might be
in mid November, and your question to me is going
to be, like, can Bill Belichick really make the college
football playoffs in his first year. They're nine and one,
and it's like all this other stuff will kind of
be forgotten about.

Speaker 1 (28:53):
He's on Twitter at Pete few Tech. That is at
Pete feu Tech everything you need college footballnews dot com.
That's college Footballnews dot com, including at ten thousand word
preview of Notre Dame in Wisconsin's game at lambeau Field
coming in twenty twenty six.

Speaker 3 (29:08):
Pete, that's always.

Speaker 7 (29:10):
Not twenty because it's true.

Speaker 3 (29:15):
See if we'll talk to you next week.

Speaker 1 (29:17):
Okay, they're gonna be proud, proud Wisconsin alum. There, Pete
feutech time now to find out what's trending in the
wide world of sports. I'm someone who had the over
tonight for Dante Devencenzo's points in the first half and
it just missed, and it just missed.

Speaker 8 (29:34):
I am the worst I Bettie, aren't I. The Oklahoma
is an ey Thunder trying to pull away. Here it's
still the third quarter, but they've outscored Minnesota thirty five
to nineteen so far. So the Thunder are up ninety
three to seventy one down to the final minute here
of the third quarter. Shei Gilis Alexander ten to fifteen
from the field, a perfect nine of nine from the

(29:56):
free throw line. He's got thirty points, six assists. When
it come Minnesota, Anthony Edwards kind of has calmed down
in the second half, but he's got twenty two points
to leave Minnesota. He is eight of nineteen to go
along with eight rebounds in Game one and Game two.
OKC has had a run in the third quarter to
kind of get away from the Timberwolves. And that's exactly

(30:17):
what they've done here. When it comes to the NHL playoffs.

Speaker 3 (30:20):
Noah, wait now, wait, wait, wait, and Edwards just hit
a bucket. He's got twenty four.

Speaker 1 (30:26):
Mike Harmon, when we made our Draft Kings picks last night,
I made my pick of the night tonight.

Speaker 3 (30:31):
What did I say? And Edwards over twenty three and
a half points? Nice yet, nicely done, nicely done.

Speaker 8 (30:39):
Now you don't have to worry of him scoring again
in the fourth quarter.

Speaker 2 (30:42):
There you go. You might sit out with a twenty
two point definite.

Speaker 3 (30:45):
Yeah.

Speaker 8 (30:46):
I literally might need to save his legs for the
next one. When it comes to the NHL playoffs, it's
Game two of the East Final between the Panthers and
the Hurricanes. It's been all Panthers. They scored within the
first like seventy five seconds of the game never looked back.
It is five zero with three minutes to go in

(31:06):
the third period. We'll check in on the two baseball
games that are left. Not a lot of baseball games
in today's slate, but the Astros have added some more
runs thanks to another home run from Jose Altuvee. They're
up on the Mariners nine to two. Bottom of the
seventh inning. It looks like the Pirates and the Brewers
are back in action. They were in a rain delay
in Pittsburgh. It was a sixth inning during the rain delay.

(31:26):
They're back in action now. Top of the eighth inning.
Brewers still up five to three, and they've got a
man on first and second base. The Angels have won
seven in a row. After defeating the A's ten to five,
Taylor Ward with a grand slam. The Guardian shut out
the Tigers seven zero, and the Nationals walked it off
eight to seven against the Braves on an RBI single
from Ahmed Rosadio. Rosadio and the Braves did announce that

(31:48):
Ronald Acuna Junior will be back tomorrow.

Speaker 3 (31:51):
He's gonna be activated from the.

Speaker 8 (31:53):
Injured list, returning from that ACL injury that he sustained
three hundred and sixty two days ago, just under a year.

Speaker 3 (32:01):
And in the NFL, you bet you bet the over
or the under on that. I know it's coming down. No,
that's coming right. No, I did not, but I would
have probably bet the over.

Speaker 2 (32:09):
So he needs a plate appearance.

Speaker 3 (32:11):
She just needs a late appearance.

Speaker 2 (32:13):
Yeah.

Speaker 8 (32:13):
In the NFL, the Troy Lions defensive end Aaden Hutchinson
fully cleared for football activities after breaking his leg last season.

Speaker 1 (32:20):
Back to you guys, thanks a bunch mine, Yes, Jason
Smith Mike Harmon live from the Fox Sports Radio studios.

Speaker 3 (32:26):
Yeah, te Wolves and the Thunder ninety three seventy one
going to the fourth quarter.

Speaker 1 (32:31):
The Thunder just absolutely pour it on, outscoring the t
Wolves thirty five twenty one. Shay Gildess Alexander freshly minted
MVP with thirty leading the way for OKAC. Now we'll
have more on this game of course coming up again.
Got the whole fourth quarter to go. Either that's good
or bad depending on who you're rooting for.

Speaker 2 (32:50):
It's not the.

Speaker 1 (32:51):
Dis we got the play of the day. And if
you thought one superstar was gonna be traded at some point,
his GM is here to tell you it's not happening.
You just gotta wait a little while. S next right here,
Jason and Mike Fox and the Nicks can't hold on

(33:12):
to a fourteen point lead, and Halliburton double dribbles. But
it's not cold, it's not cold.

Speaker 2 (33:25):
And scene and scene, scene, scene.

Speaker 3 (33:30):
Curtain scene.

Speaker 5 (33:33):
Someone goes out to the Knicks.

Speaker 3 (33:35):
All right, Nick fans, hope you enjoyed it. It's coming
to an end. Stuck in your dreams.

Speaker 1 (33:43):
Halliburton hit a shot and made the choke sign big then.

Speaker 3 (33:48):
In ot you couldn't even make him pay. Jason Smith
is on the radio. He's got nothing good to say.
All right, all right, enough of the enough of that.

Speaker 1 (33:59):
I need a break for the Neicks for five minutes
and five minute break, five minute break.

Speaker 3 (34:03):
Let's talk about.

Speaker 2 (34:04):
Another team that stinks. Uh.

Speaker 3 (34:07):
Let's get to the play of the day first.

Speaker 2 (34:09):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (34:10):
Play the Day brought to you by tire rack dot Com.
For over forty years, tire racksmen helping customers find the
right tires for how, what and where they drive. Shipped
fast and free back by free Road has a protection

com is the way tire buying should be. Well, when
you hit a big grand slam, you knock in six runs. Well,

(34:30):
Taylor Ward, you get to be the play of the day.

Speaker 3 (34:33):
He twives won the center field. It's deep, it's play
going back again again.

Speaker 2 (34:42):
It is slutely on fire. The Angels aren't back in front.

Speaker 3 (34:48):
FanDuel TV on the call right there.

Speaker 1 (34:50):
The Angels find a way to hold off those pesky
Oakland A's, But hey, you.

Speaker 3 (34:54):
Get b mister Taylor the play of the day.

Speaker 1 (34:58):
Now, speaking of baseball, this gets us to the big
baseball story the day in which the Pittsburgh Pirates, who
can't do anything right this season, whether it's on or
off the field. I like the the recap today on
ESPN dot com where it says they have packed a
half decade's worth of public relations missteps into two months. Yep,
big fair, that's fair here, it's your Pittsburgh Pirates.

Speaker 2 (35:21):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (35:22):
They have said one thing they did say today GM
bench Arrington saying they are not going to trade Paul
Skeins right, Like, hey, everything is really difficult schemes.

Speaker 3 (35:31):
One of the most sought after players in the game.
He's under team control for another couple of years.

Speaker 1 (35:35):
You could get a treasure trove of players for him.
And he said, no, quote, it's not part of the
conversation at all.

Speaker 3 (35:43):
Okay, And you know what, I believe that wait for it,
wait for it, wait for it for now.

Speaker 1 (35:51):
Like like like Dolores Umbridge said in Harry Potter, Order
the Phoenix, you can't when when Dumbledore says you can't
dismiss a teacher that rat power remains solely with the headmaster,
and she smiles and goes for now, like, yeah, they're
not gonna trade Paul Skins. Now he brings people the ballpark.
He gives the Pirates an identity, right like this is

(36:11):
I mean, this is what you want to get guys
like that. You want to trade guys like this, especially
when they're cheap, and you want to try to build.

Speaker 3 (36:17):
For a while on it.

Speaker 1 (36:18):
But why I say for now is he's going to
end up following the exact same path of Juan Soto.
With so much team control, Eventually the Pirates are gonna
get to a point like the Nationals did where we're
not gonna keep them.

Speaker 3 (36:33):
We have to move him now.

Speaker 1 (36:34):
It's not now, it's not gonna be at the trading deadline,
it's not gonna be after this year. But at some
point in the next year or two, they're gonna be
faced with that reality that, you know what, he's not
gonna stay. He's a big superstar. Him and Livy Dunn
keep making headlines wherever they go. Teams are gonna.

Speaker 3 (36:51):
Fall over themselves to give him all kinds of money.

Speaker 1 (36:53):
He'd get the richest free agent contract for a pitcher
in the history of Major League Baseball, and they know,
are we gonna have that kind of money to sign him?
We're the pirates. We don't spend that kind of money.
Come on, man, we said we couldn't even we were sweating,
you know, paying Bobby Benia eight bucks a day in
nineteen ninety two. I mean, come on, we can't. You know,
we're not gonna give him this kind of money. So eventually,

(37:15):
that's how it's going to end for Skeens. It'll be
just like Juan Soda where the Nationals made that calculated
decision of Okay, World Series, where are we going, Let's
move on and maybe Skeens winds up with a couple
of different teams before he hits free agency and signs
that big deal. But yes, the Pirate's gonna trade him now. No,
but just wait because eventually they'll get to the same
point the Nationals did. It'll be a big feeding frenzy

(37:36):
in a big story. Just got to wait a while
for it.

Speaker 2 (37:38):
Yeah, arbitration eligible at the end of twenty twenty six.
Right now, you've got Reynolds and Cruz and Cabrian Hayes.
There's your trio. You got four teams that have a
lower payroll than the pirates. Pirates are eighty eight million dollars.
You want to guess who those four teams are? Go ahead,
my god, good, good, good Miami, whatever they are, the

(38:02):
A's Tampa Bay and your Chicago White Sox. There you
have it. But yeah, the litany of public relations disasters, signage,
the trading card, you name it. But eventually you've got
to realize that the only way you're you're gonna make
the most of this. I mean, you can't be the
Angels and watch the guy walk across the freeway. Damn,

(38:26):
I'm out of here. There goes Otani and all the
hundreds of millions of dollars in revenue.

Speaker 3 (38:31):
What do we got for it? Our pride?

Speaker 2 (38:33):
No, no, no, he took that too. He took that too,
because we didn't trade him when we could have and
at least restocked the minor leagues, or get a player
or two that people would love to come and watch
for a minute or five. No, for Paul Skins, you know, look,
you got Livy Dunn SI for twenty twenty five. She

(38:54):
keeps that magazine relevant. And right now, Skimes is the
only thing holding the Pirates together.

Speaker 1 (38:59):
Yeah, I mean, look for now, I get it right.
Every fifth day he comes, he brings people to ballpark.
He brings you energy, he brings you relevance, right, and
you want that, right if you're the Pirates.

Speaker 3 (39:08):
You got to play the long game, man.

Speaker 1 (39:09):
I realized the Pirates have been playing the long game
since nineteen ninety four. So but you got Okay Skeens.
Now he brings you a lot of relevance, he brings
you a lot of attention, all of that. But eventually
got to make the right decision for the team. And
I and the Nationals would have loved to have kept
ban Soto, but boy, he's gonna that's too much money
for us. I mean, it's too much money for the pirates,
and they know they just have to when they get
to that point where they know, okay, we've gone past

(39:31):
the point of of of having him be that much
use to us, where now we need to get something
for him before he moves on again. It might be
year and a half, but it's gonna happen. Paul Skeens
will be someplace else. Exit out about a Fresco exit.

Speaker 3 (39:45):
Swallendme.

Speaker 1 (39:46):
We got a big, bold statement for the NBA playoffs
coming up next right here, Jason and Mike Fox Sports Radio,
