Speaker 1 (00:28):
Hello, Welcome inside, Happy Monday, the Jason Smith Show with
my bass friend Mike Harmon. Let's going on Joe Positivity.
For over forty years, tire Rack's been helping customers find

(00:49):
He is the way tire buying should be. Hopefully you
had a wonderful Memorial Day weekend. Spend some time reflecting
on why we have this weekend. Remember, some gave all
and it's just one of those things to think about
as we enjoy the last few days and why we
can and uh, you know, I want to say this
because you know the Open and the Knicks and everyth
that I want to say, How am I after after yesterday,
(01:12):
I'm gonna surprise you. I'm good. I'm good because what
the Knicks did was they bought a day. They bought
a day, they bought a game. Right, they didn't do it.
They bought a game. The series could have ended and instead, okay,
we bought a game. Now they gotta go get game
four because down three to one, you see what happens
down three to one coming back from them. Oh, it's fine,
but they bought, they bought a day, they bought a game.
(01:34):
And I'm happy, but I'm not sitting here with choke
gestures with the Pacers blowing at twenty points. I will
save that if we win the series. But I'm not.
It's they bought a game. They bought a game, they
bought a day. It's okay, great, you you found a
way back in a game that made absolutely no sense.
It made no sense. The Knicks won this game. Karl
Anthony Towns has four points through three quarters and then
(01:55):
he just hits for twenty in the fourth. Like Brunson
doesn't have a big ga. How did they win it?
This game? This series makes absolutely no sense. So okay,
but that's I'm okay, I'm not insane. I mean that
was insane Jason Nicks fan. But but now I'm like, okay,
you know what, we're right on the edge right now.
Things things aren't going as we thought. But that's basically
what the Knicks did. They bought a game, and now
(02:17):
it's all about game four because really you could say,
well they won the one, Yeah, they could go home. No,
you don't go home to win three game. You don't
go home and then leave it and come back. Oh yeah,
we'll just hit fast forward on the button to win
three games. Doesn't happen that way, doesn't it? How you
go back? Game one obviously one that was so soul ripping.
We don't need to talk about it anymore, all of that,
but talk about it. No Game two, close game about
(02:41):
that again, psychologically jarring. At times, Karl Anthony Towns was
either wearing a cloak of invisibility or he was John
Cena and you didn't see it. Game three, for a
good chunk of that, he didn't. We saw Shamitt check
in and a lot of folks looking at around going Okay,
Tibbs has truly lost his mind. Now the synapses aren't firing,
(03:04):
and we got some craziness because now the guys are
getting extra minutes. Well you get eleven from him, thirteen
from right. Josh Hart, who more or less benched himself
in all of his comments. Between Game two and Game three,
he comes through with some of the biggest rebounds where
suddenly he's playing like he's eight feet tall on stilts. Yeah,
(03:24):
I rebound after rebound and big play. And for Karl
Anthony Town it's like someone activated. You hit the switch
on the back. Just be good, Like, how didt It's
just bad, you know, kind of a thing. I don't know.
I got four points in the first three quart and
all of a sudden taking the heat check threes in
the fourth quarter. I'm saying, how the hell did this?
There's like nine memes of him that came out of
(03:46):
that fourth quarter, some of the passes, some of the Hey,
look at the words that he's mouthing here as he's
running up and down the court. He got called for
that insane travel And I don't know that I've ever
agreed with an announcer more than listening to Stan, and
he just incredulously going. So that was called here why yeah,
like several foul calls like yep, I'm with you here, Stan,
(04:10):
But all, don't try to break this series down because
it doesn't make any no, no, no, it doesn't make sense.
Kalen Brunton sitting on the bench and suddenly there's some
activity and the Knicks are playing better. Basketball comes back in,
helps to finish things off, six of eighteen from the field.
They're gonna need a better version of him, and he
and Kat are gonna have to figure out what their
problems are. But you bought a day. You bought a
(04:32):
couple of days. And look, the first two games, as
much as they may have been jarring, were close games, right,
gave one away? Okay, fine, you rally, you took one back.
What was it? The New York Posts back page was
chokes on them. It's pretty good. I mean that's pretty clever.
I like that with a giant picture of cat screaming
(04:53):
and losing his mind, which is great. But now we
get back for game four and let's see what other
mat TIBs can find in terms of lineup switches and
juice that you can get McBride gave him a couple
of big shots. He also tried to shoot them out
of the game a couple of times. Don't try to
make the day. It makes no sense, It makes absolutely
(05:15):
no Shallow May showed up. Shout him May, shutamy what
you got, Frostburg.
Speaker 3 (05:19):
I totally that went in a different direction than I
thought it would be.
Speaker 1 (05:22):
What what direction? You think it was?
Speaker 3 (05:24):
Your whole take on the.
Speaker 1 (05:26):
They bought. They bought two days.
Speaker 3 (05:28):
I thought you were gonna go with you were talking
about things that were numbered.
Speaker 1 (05:32):
I thought you were gonna go with, I'm enjoying my
knicks as their games are numbered. Well, yeah, we gotta
win three more games here and then four more in
the finals. It's I I I can't think too much
that they bought two days. It's what they did. They
bought two days and now, but if they lose game four,
that's it. You're gonna go back home and win where
you've already lost twice. They need to come back to
(05:53):
Indiana and win and then, I mean, I know, Caitlin
Clark's not playing, but then you're gonna go back in
Madison Square Garden to win there. Now, Yeah, I know,
I know, But it's yeah, well clearly, clearly the big
panic move by the Pacers bringing Pops Haliburton back, which
we'll get to. But no, really, I mean, I they
bought a couple. I'm not lying. I'm not gonna sudden
turn the mic off. Oh yeah, Blake you But no,
(06:15):
they they they bought two days that's what.
Speaker 3 (06:18):
No.
Speaker 1 (06:18):
But I mean we go back to the end of
last week. For those joining us for the first time,
welcome aboard Jason Smith Show with Mike Harmon. Here Fox
Sports Radio, the iHeartRadio app nearly five hundred affiliates nationwide,
uh and ever growing entity that we are globally uh
normally riding the lightning and now the open would suggest
as such, you've been fairly measured. I mean, a little
(06:41):
sky is falling towards the end of last week. But
oh the sky had fallen after game, but it had
already fallen down. It had fallen down and crashed, and
we were picking up the on Friday, it became the well,
if they get a game, but you were looking forward
to getting swept. We started talking about Tim's maybe out sted,
putting up pictures of Danny Hurley Giant Heart that said
(07:03):
d yes Nick, how do we get Yannis? How do
we get Yannis? Package? Can we put together for Yannis?
All of these things? Okay? By that kid? So I
don't know if you want Hi. If he can get
beaten off the dribble, that fast towns in anunobi for Jannis,
the money works, We'll give throw throwing a couple. But
I would say this right we're watching game four now
of this Western Conference Finals, and in game three of
(07:27):
that series, suddenly he had a re emergence of Julius Randam.
Remember he did a disappearing act in game two. Uh,
in this series he came back just fine. So Kat
did the same in the fourth quarter. Now put on
a cape and wrote it out to a victory. It's
funny you say we'll left more on this series. And yes,
the return of John Halliburton coming for game four. I'm
in a glass case of emotion. But where we sit
(07:48):
right now, Thunder lead the t Wolves early in the
third quarter sixty eight sixty four. Teal's got a couple
of buckets out of the break and again on display.
Is exactly why I picked the Thunder to win this. Yeah,
like I pick the Thunder from the beginning of the
playoffs you had the Wolves. You and I are opposite
sides of this, But what have I said from the beginning?
I have more confidence that SGA is going to be
(08:10):
consistently great over the course of this series than I
am Anthony Edwards, because ann Edwards still gives you games
where you're saying, where the hell is he? Right? Game
one was a no show right then suddenly okay, picked
up a little bit in game two, Games three, your
blog great, But I told you there's a couple of
times a series where Aunt Edwards doesn't show up and
you can't do that again. You can do that when
you're playing teams that you have an advantage against that
(08:31):
are playing well, but a team like Oklahoma City, you
can't have your best player not show up for two
of the six or whatever it's going to be. And
tonight and Edwards in the first half took two shots,
Man two shots and Edwards two shots, four points in
the first half of this game. Okay, there is no
world in which it and Edward the next Michael Jordan,
(08:53):
the next Lebron James, the next Gripra. There's no world
in which he takes two shots in the first half
what you doing, really, I mean, you're lucky you're still
in the game. And luckily they were because hey, McDaniel's
had a big first half and that was good. And
he had points off the bench, now, so that's good, right, Yeah,
and Devincenzo's got a three. You know, you're hitting some
(09:13):
threes off the bench? Is what's keeping you in this game? Oh,
if you didn't keep turning the van ball over too,
I mean a number of mindless turnovers and sequences. They
had twelve in the first half, don't I don't know how.
I don't know how the next great player that and
Edwards and it's this second game where he's had a
big no show the entire game one and now the
first half of game two. He does have a bucket
(09:34):
early in the second half, but he's taken three shots
right now that he's take Hey, take eight shots in
the first four minutes. But this is where I mean, really,
how do you have to take three shots in the
first half. The face of the league doesn't take two
shots in the first half of the playoff thing? Right,
It's like I understand the old let the game come
to you to a degree. You're in the Western Conference, finals.
(09:55):
And I can also understand, hey, you've got a bunch
of all and me defensive players in that Oklahoma City
lineup right. We talked a lot about Dort who's getting
the tuna run right now. We talked about Alex Cruz,
so what he's been able to do. All of those
things are fine and exciting, but you need to have
a stamp on this game, right You can't say, hey,
(10:17):
look what cat did last night, and I'm gonna do that,
but you know, we'll hang around and then all of
a sudden, I'll have this offensive explosion because guess what,
it may not come. And you're also not a big
guy that can go in and impose your will down
low and and force contact, work through contact and make
things happen. For for Edwards to be this passive, it's madning. Absolutely,
(10:42):
you're a Minnesota fan or you're a member of that staff,
You're you're going, what do we doing? Or you want
of the people that wanted to anoint him as the
next Michael Jordan for the last twelve months, shaking out
of context. I mean, look, when he shoots his jumpers
like Jordan does, and he's got the he's got the
sweat band up on the sleeve like Jordan George. Well
look what Jordan doesn't do that. Jordan doesn't take two
(11:02):
shots in the first half of a must win playoff.
But look what he did on on Saturday, right that
the first quarter? What was it? Fifteen five and two? Yeah,
I just said, this is my game? Yeah great, and
this is look and it's not like it's one thing.
And I would not rip Aunt Edwards if his first
half was he had four points and he was two
for twelve from the floor shot. You know what, you're
(11:25):
the superstar, you're support, You're trying. He's trying to get
into the game. He's trying to affect the game, and
my SHOT's not going right. This is where it happens
for Shay Gilders Alexander. What does he do. I'm gonna
get to the free throw line because it's what I do,
and this is how I'm going to affect the game.
I'm gonna slow it down for me. If I'm not hitting,
I'm gonna play make a little more, but I'm gonna
continue to be the score of my teens. I'm gonna
get to the line because that's how that's how you
(11:47):
do it when your SHOT's not falling. This is Ann
Edward's like, like, there's there's possessions on offense where I go,
where the hell is he? Like, I'm watching the first
half going you wouldn't even know he was on the
floor a lot. He's never even in and it's like
he didn't even engage to try to get into the
game in the first half. Last two possessions down misses
a wide open three and now tries to go into
(12:08):
the lane and has his money taken from him. Man,
I'll tell you man again, this entire series has played
out exactly why SGA is that superstar that comes out
and finds a way every It's what the best superstars do.
They always find a way to affect the game. And and
Edwards had a couple of games in a series where
Boy really needed more. Boy really needed more, and usually
those are l's and that's why you wind up losing
(12:30):
the series. Now again, they're lucky it's this close because
you are getting a big effort from your bench and
and the threes are falling for the most part. But still,
I mean, you gotta have this game. You gotta have
this game. You're coming out after beating the Thunder by
one hundred and fifty on Saturday, where I think the
game started out and it was and it was twenty
three nothing out of the gate, and now here's a
(12:50):
game where it's like, okay, we're doing this again, right,
we feel all kinds of confidence, you know. The Thunder.
The way they talked after game three was, hey, man,
this was shocking. We have to do a bunch of
we have to So you know, they're reeling looking for
an answer because they thought we're gonna come in and
roll over there. That's what we've done the first two games.
This is where you would come out again. We make
sure no no hope for you, and we are gonna
(13:10):
send you back now if your shots aren't falling again,
that's one thing, but there's one thing of trying to
get in the game and not doing it and then
just just hanging out say yeah, I'm good, you guys
shoot I'm okay. But again, most of that first half
they shot very well. I mean there was a point
where it was, hey, we're at sixty five percent, but
we turned the ball over ten times, and so you
have a deficit you're looking at. Williams had a huge
(13:32):
first half four to six from three point range. Thus
far SGA obviously getting his work done. But yeah, we're
on the side of the milk carton for Anthony Edwards
and what he has tried to express himself and be
part of the action these last couple of possessions. I
tasted the milk. It was sour.
Speaker 2 (13:51):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 1 (14:01):
Daddy, would you like some sausage? Daddy? Look at me, daddy.
Well here we are. We jump in right away, final
twenty seconds of the third quarter of the Pacers lead
the Knicks in a pivotal game four one ninety one,
also known as the Tyres Halliburton Game. Well, I mean
(14:22):
he's going to the Hall of Fame off of this game.
Twenty eight points, fourteen assists, and eight rebounds, not even
through three quarters of the game. This is where Tyres
Halliburton is at the night he is having. Now you
know why the Pacers said, Hey, we got to bring
your dad back.
Speaker 2 (14:38):
Man.
Speaker 1 (14:38):
Look they're patting themselves on the back, going Yeah, we
brought your dad back at the right time. Look at
this game, you ever, one of the greatest games in
NBA playoff history. We did the right Pat yourselves on
the back. You did the right thing. It's the complete
opposite of Jamie Tart when his dad showed up. He
just could not play here all worlds Jack himself Hall
(14:59):
of Famer Jamy is catchy. I'll tell you why. Yes,
it's absolutely true. Look, I'm I'm stunned. Honestly, the game
is this close right because here we are twenty seconds
ago on the third quarter, and the Pacers has simply
done everything they've wanted to do offensively in this game,
everything they've wanted to do. The knickser lost on almost
(15:20):
every defensive possession. There's a pacer wide open for three.
At the end of the shot clock. There's an easy
path to the hoop. I don't know if Brunson is
missing some defensive assignments up top, but offensively, the Pacers
have done everything. Halli Burton has done anything he wanted to.
They're playing at the pace they wanted to, which is
they want to go up and down the court fast.
They want to be able to hold Jalen Brunson down
(15:42):
and make him dribble the ball up court and pressure
him as often as he's on the floor. I mean,
the Pacers have done everything they've wanted to, They've played
at the pace they've wanted to, and yet it's a
ten point game like this should be the Knick should
be down twenty five at this point. I can't believe
it's honestly, it's this close. Well, they've doubled up on
turnovers too, Nick fourteen to the Pacers seven, but they've
(16:03):
made it count at the foul line. Twenty six of
twenty nine. Last couple of minutes have been a wrestling match,
and curiously officiated in the process. Benedict Matherin I would
put him, I would just call him the menace because
at some point Kat or somebody is just going to
haul off on him. He has tackled Jalen Brunson at
(16:25):
least twice in the last two minutes, and they're they're
really just beating the hell out of brunts and seeing
if he'll react. At this point, getting into the end
of the third quarter, but that first half from Halliburton
was a clinic. I mean, he was to to rebound
short of a triple double in the first half. What
he did, Joe jed, you know, looking at lines and
(16:47):
having some fun with it as we do here. His
over under for points, rebounds, and assists was thirty five
and a half for the game. Yeah, he got you.
You're feeling pretty good when you can celebrate that a
heck of bills before half to I was all right,
you're looking bill with but before the last time out
official time out of the second quarter, I mean reediately
going to live wagering opportunities. What has the market given me,
(17:08):
I'll tell you, man, it is an eleven point lead
for the Pacers going to the fourth quarter. Now, the
only thing I can say is, well, Nick's got it
where they want him, right, Hey, down eleven going to
the fourth quarter. Hey, we're good man, this is what
we wanted. We love being down ten eleven points. We
go to the fourth quarter, it's our quarter. Let's go.
But I'm telling you nothing's gonna matter unless somehow defensively
they can flip the script in the fourth quarter. Because really,
(17:30):
I mean, you watch the Pacers offensively and Haliburton gets moving,
He's got a lot of space and and I don't
know if it's just panic. I don't know if the
Knicks are losing their assignments, but they're just allowing the
Pacers to do anything they've wanted. I can't believe Pacers
miss as many shots aid they're shooting fifty five percent
from the floor. I can't believe it's it's that low.
Like I really I missed that, man. I feel like
they haven't missed one, like like since the early part
(17:52):
of the second quarter. Well, you're oh now marred with
the three. That's the last miss that was eighteen minutes
ago in game time, like real. The fact that it's
eleven point game is stunning to me, So you I
want to think that, okay, maybe it's there. But at
the same time, I mean, the Pacers hoops, they're easy hoops.
There's no because like every time down the floor for
the Knicks, specially especially with Brunson, Yes, they want to
(18:13):
slow it down. So he's gonna try to, you know,
try to back the defender down and try to turn
in the lane and try to find somebody. The Knicks
baskets are all work right, and you need some kind
of easy stuff, right obviously, But the Knicks offense is
not bad. So far, But defensively you also need to
make them the other team work a little bit. And
I don't see any plays where I feel like, hey,
the pay boy, that was some That was Halliburton with
(18:36):
two guys on him and the step back three or
here he was in the lane and he leans into
the contact like the hoops are just too easy. There's
you got. You gotta make him work at some point
down the floor. Well, the other part is we were
watching final a couple of minutes of the first half,
and as the third quarter began, all the fifty to
fifty balls fell to Indiana right the thud to the
(18:56):
side of the rim, So you're in perfect rebounding position
if it was a true rebound. Instead it comes short,
so it's an easy flow. There. There was another play
that ball goes up, You've got two rebounders. Somehow it
scorts out to a guy who's literally sitting on his
ass to trigger a shot. Now Halliburnton missed the three,
but it was indicative of the way the prior two
(19:18):
to three minutes a game time had gone, where the
ball is just finding the feet of the Indiana pacers
for another wide open look or a trigger back inside
for the knick side of it. Again, they're taking care
of business at the foul line. Twenty six of twenty
nine thus far brunts and eleven of twelve taking a beating.
(19:38):
But you've seen it. There's no easy layups, there's no transition.
You don't expect to win that time and again against
the squad, right, you don't want to run against the
pacers given their depth, and they were pretty judicious with
the minutes for Jalen Brunson again in the second quarter.
He got a nice long rest, figuring he's gonna wear
(19:59):
some heavy minutes here down the stretch. But defensively he's
sitting at a minus sixteen lost getting bumped off the
block and again if you're not gonna call the the
fall as he's trying to get through a screen and
those kind of things consistently, because it's like any other sport,
right you watch with your kid's soccer game, any of
you out there or youth basketball, whatever, you're not calling
(20:23):
all the falls because you can't, right, And that's certainly
what's happened in this playoff series where you start pushing
the boundaries of how much can I get away with
a body or a hand hand check or do you
have to really leave an imprint of all four fingers
across the guy's wrist and go, hey, Rev, I'd like
a challenge on this one, because that's what we're seeing,
(20:45):
a lot of a lot of holding down on rebounding attempts.
So big challenge. Fourth quarter coming up. So here we
are again, an eleven point lead for the Pacers over
the next fourth quarter, just underweight. Now we make a
big deal. Obviously, John Halliburton, Tyre's Halliburton's dad daddy at
the game tonight for the first time since getting banned
because he couldn't control himself and had to troll Giannis
(21:06):
after the Pacers eliminated the Bucks a couple of weeks ago.
So he gets to come back to the game tonight.
And now, look, I don't think there's any I don't
think there's any any question as to Hey, like I said,
they did the right thing. We brought him back at
the right time because look at the night Halliburton's having. Now,
Frostburg says, we have the pregame speech right of Halliburton
and tres speech.
Speaker 3 (21:24):
It's more of a chat between him and Pops, a.
Speaker 1 (21:26):
Chat between the Tyres and his dad. We have that.
Speaker 3 (21:28):
Okay, Jason Smith Show with Mike Harmon Exclusive.
Speaker 1 (21:31):
Okay, let's say so this is this is Tyres and
John Halliburton pregame. All right, let's go.
Speaker 3 (21:36):
Do you want to hear it?
Speaker 1 (21:36):
Yeah? I got it. I can hear. I gotta hear
what spurred Tyre's Halliburton onto this incredible night. Wait for
you ready? Yeah, I'm dude, everybody's ready. Man waiting with
baited breath. Make your daddy proud. You hear me. It's
gonna make you proud, daddy. I'm gonna make you so proud.
Speaker 3 (21:55):
He made you, daddy proud.
Speaker 1 (21:58):
You're gonna be so proud, proud, proud. That is really emotional,
that really gotten that. I'm now affected as this uh
fourth quarter.
Speaker 2 (22:12):
You know what?
Speaker 1 (22:13):
Yeah he did. I mean there was a lot of
back and forth on that make me proud. I will
I think I will. I got it. I think we'll
do it. I think we got Okay, I'll make you proud. Well,
I mean not just ask and answered, you know, the
knowing nod or anything. It's a deep resonance to that exchange,
which makes me say, if you if you have the opportunity.
You know, call, call your dad, call your grandpa, call
(22:36):
that person in your life and say that if he's
been banned from a game, and make sure he's okay.
But no, I mean, do I make you proud.
Speaker 3 (22:44):
If he not?
Speaker 1 (22:44):
I mean where I now speaking of Dad's being banned
from games? Okay, speaking of dad's tonight, I bought my
dad a ticket for the from the Ache game tonight.
He is down there and Anaheim Erry sent me a
picture from his seats already. He parked in Ron Washington spot.
He said to me, tell him how he's it is
(23:05):
to play first base? Watch he calls me, right, because
I told you last I went to the game this
past week and when when I saw the Angels in
the Marlins, A lot easier to get tickets for that, right, well,
just a little bit. And uh, you know, and I
tell I always tell you how great it is and
you get you get service at your seat, they bring
you food. It's fantastic at Angels games. I mean, the
thing is you have to watch the Angels. But uh,
my dad gets down there and my dad said, so
(23:25):
I decided to splurge for preferred parking. And I said, okay,
he goes and he calls me. When he gets there,
he goes, you know where I'm calling you from right now?
I go, all right, what happened? Like he's calling me
on the way into work. And when he calls me,
I'm like, okay, what what's going on? What's something? Dad?
What's going He goes, you know, I'm calling you from
my dad never says that I'm calling you from right now.
I'm like, okay, prison, hello Dad, and I'm in jail.
(23:46):
Are you in Are you in Angels jail? Are you
in like a jail under the stadium? Did you get arrested?
What happened? He's going bootleg merch. He goes, I'm in
my parking spot and I'm about twenty yards from walking
right into the stadium. Now, how much is preferred parking
at Angel Stadium from my dad who's a vet? Uh oh,
there's a discount for a vet. I think it's like,
(24:07):
oh yeah, we had well, we had to actually had
the vet discount at the playoff game with the Mets
and the Dodgers last year. We had they let they
saw him and they said, hey, come on right through
because he's got the Vietnam vet. Everything as soon as
we pulled up, they go, no, sir, come right through here.
We're like, oh wow, my dad gives the wave and
they waved him like yeah they did. And then my
dad came out and he had a big hat on,
he had the sunglasses on. He took him off. Does
(24:28):
he wear all that every time he can? Did? Just
see what kind of discounts he can get. Yes, he
wears it. When he goes to Pavilions to go to
the supermart, comes walking in, He's got wristbands on. In
the whole nine yards This uh twelve pack of Guinness
is sixteen dollars not yes, sir, Oh, oh sir, No,
so he got nine dollars. That's what I thought, Thank you.
So he calls he guy. He goes, I'm twenty yards
from walking into the stadium and he says, I'm just
(24:50):
gonna kind of saunter my way in and get there
for batting practice. He was so excited. Did he really
use the term saunter though? Yeah, oh yeah, no, my dad,
that's great, my dad, you get some stuff. You'd be
surprised because you see, you know, when my dad comes
on the show. Some of the things he says right,
you'd be surprised. My dad is one of the smartest
people I've ever met, Like some of the things that
(25:12):
he that he says and comes up with, and the
way he can do that. The New York Times crossword
puzzle on Friday and penn in about a minute and
a half where he just goes along and go, wow,
there were there were you know, thirty seven across clues.
You've only got thirty five of them. Yeah, I go,
I'll see what the you know, the sweetish word for
bed bug is on the way back down, I'll get that.
And then no, he doesn't know. He generally takes him
(25:36):
at least he says he has a bad day if
he gets to four for wordle I was like, wow, okay.
I'm like sometimes I'm like, you know, sweating that out
at six, but I'm like, you know, I get it done.
But my Dad's like, yeah, four is like a bad time.
I'm like, geeze, okay. He's like that. If there was
a cross if there was a speed crossword puzzle Olympics,
my dad, I know my dad would be at the
(25:57):
top of that. No, there's probably a professional circuit. So
they complain saying that the Okay, if if there was
like him, we're coming in and ruining it for if
there was an over sixty five, you know, like like
the like the Senior Crossword Puzzle Tour. But I said,
with all this weez injury, how do we put him
to work for good? How do we profit off him?
You'd be a bet on him. He goes, he goes
to a he goes to some right, and we get
(26:19):
him drunk and he's walking around like yeah, yeah, yo, dude,
no one's gonna bet on this guy. And then boom,
just like color of money and then boom, the odds
go all the way down the tubes. You make all
kinds of cash on him. Yeah. We can only run
that circuit so long. It's a small thing regionally. He's
gonna have to be willing to travel. I am a genius.
I think this works.
Speaker 2 (26:38):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific.
Speaker 1 (26:45):
One eleven ninety four. The Knicks win tonight. So the
first before I get to where I think the Knicks
might have had a little bit of extra help tonight,
I'll get to that in a second. Remember when I
told you what the live line was though, h hang on,
hang on, go at halftime, just as the third quarter
was a third, right as we were getting ready to
start the show. It was was it eighteen and a half? Sixteen?
(27:05):
Sixteen Nicks minus sixteen? Oh nick minuet four? Hey no, ma, folks,
no such thing as a useless bucket at the end
of a fifteen point Oh sir? Well, look where am i? Okay,
Obviously it's a little bit different because Jason, you're running
around like a lunatic and nearly cursing on the air. Yes,
(27:25):
that was the old meat. No, that was the pregame
won meet. But I'm telling you something broke in me
in game one and when something breaks, you need time
to fix it. So where am I right now? Yes,
I'm extremely happy the Knicks extended the series. Now you
never know what can happen in game six, and but
they played really well. I was happy that they came
out tonight with a big effort, and I knew they would, right.
(27:48):
That's one thing I'm proud about because this is kind
of in the knixt DNA. It's the not in the
next DNA to quit, to not show up to say
things aren't going our way and the Pacers just have us.
There's nothing else we can say because the Pacers on
honestly the first four games of this series, this is
the best they could ever hope to play. They are
playing at one hundred percent capacity. Again, four guys on
(28:09):
this team having the greatest day of their NBA lives
in three games of this series, right you see with
with Halliburton and even another night tonight for for Matherin
who had twenty three points, right, but he had the
other big night in game four, and you had uh
Neie Smith's game in game one, right you see? You
see there's so many for you know, four players in
Siakam again who looked like Kevin Durant in game two.
(28:31):
They've been playing so incredibly well. But I knew the
Knicks would come out with this kind of effort because
that's that that's who they are. We're gonna come out.
We're at home, We're not going away. We're gonna show
you we're still in this thing. And the Pacers played
the game I expected them to play. We're gonna try,
we're gonna stay in it. But if things aren't going
our way, we're gonna back out a little bit. Right
when you got to the fourth quarter. Who was on
(28:52):
the bench. Tyre's Halliburton. Right. So this is where the
Pacers understand, all right, we're not getting the night the
way he went at it this game, We're not. Yeah,
I mean it is a non fact. This was this
was bad Haliburton, right? Eight points? Right? How does Halliburton
have eight points? But really, how does every start everybody
in the starting lineup for the Pacers except for Siakam
score in single digits? Right? This is a Pacers team
(29:15):
that say we're gonna see if we can hang around,
and if we can hang around, all right, we'll show
you a little something in the fourth quarter. But even
Rick Carlisle sa, okay, this is probably not there for us.
The best they did was cut it to twelve. The
Knicks got it out to sixteen eighteen easily again, and
that was it. Right, But this is what teams do. Now,
This is not something that is a that is a
big hot take and go. You should be ashamed of
(29:36):
yourselves for showing up this way. You should know this
is how it works. Hey, I'm still gonna say that
in games where it's you gotta close out opportunity. Come on, Yeah,
you can disagree with that. I'm with you on it,
but this is just a very common strategy. Now. It's hey,
you got two, you got two remaining. Yeah, we're we're
looking at it like we're not gonna go crazy to
do this because we don't want to risk injury. We
(29:57):
don't want to risk uh, you know, a big momentum shift.
It's ay, they're winning this game. It's okay if we
pull everybody back. That keeps our players in a positive
frame of mind and full of confidence, because that's really
what it is. It's about. Hey, if we go for
it all the way through to the end of this
game and we don't win, this gives the Knicks more
confidence that, hey, we finally closed out a game at
(30:19):
home where the Pacers had all their starters in and
they were all the way to then maybe we're figuring
things out. And conversely, for the Pacers, it's boy, have
we run out of magic? Right? Oh? You know, while
we're going home, everything's gonna fine, But in the back
of your mind is a little bit of boy, we
close these two games out earlier, and now that the
Knicks just put the pedal down and did it to us.
So this is why teams pull back. It's it's injuries.
(30:40):
It's also that's not our night. We want to have
our players still in a great frame on it and
feeling confident going back home for Game six, which we
expect to be the closer for us. And if it's not,
we've already won two games in MSG. If we got
to come back for game seven, we still feel really good.
We have two chances to win one game, the Knicks
got to win both. So yeah, it's more of it's
an natural thing now because look, go back in the
(31:02):
playoffs the last ten twelve years. How many times do
we see thirty forty point blowouts where this team was
just up three to one, they were looking that this
is the best the team has ever played. How do
they lose by sixteen? How to no start scoring double
figures because teams don't put forth the effort right, Rick
Bucker is gonna join us coming up in about fifteen minutes.
He talked with us about this a few nights ago. Yeah,
(31:24):
teams come in and just say, hey, we're gonna go
for it. But then if things don't go our way,
we don't start getting calls and it looks like it's
getting away from us. Okay, we're gonna put it away
and just kind of, you know, just kind of mail
it in and go back and get ready to win
Game six. We see it all the time now. Yeah,
Unfortunately you and I are on Era as we watch
it happen, which means it becomes a far less compelling
(31:44):
product to try to chronicle as we go through it.
But the reality of it is, to your point about
injuries putting heavy minutes on, You've already played one hundred games, right,
No matter how efficiently you've gone through these playoffs and
season workouts and everything and travel whatever, you're at a
point where you're trying to steal minutes and steal rest
(32:06):
wherever you can. And in this case, you saw large
swathes of time where Haliburt was on the bench. Didn't
affect the game a ton when he was there again
on the bench, But he's on the bench like at
one point it was like a staredown because Jalen Brunson,
they're buying him minutes before he's got to come back,
(32:27):
and they're like looking at each other like they're both
in the penalty box. Sure, after fighting in hockey like
all right, three two, all right, all right, we're both
gonna check back in and make it exciting for the
people for a couple more minutes. But for the Knicks
huge to actually get a win at home, extend the season.
All your conspiracy theories, you know, just keep wearing your
(32:49):
tinfoil hats exceed. The NBA gets another game, they get
into the weekend, in those glorious weekend spots to televise
a game in prime time. Scott Foster is standing by
for your phone call. The Parent Trap with Lindsay Lohan
was the scheduled Is there a replacement with Dennis Quaid?
Is there a place I can get all of these
(33:09):
fouls in one place. Yes, if you call now, Scott Foster,
the Extender will put all of these fouls on Nie
Smith and Halliburton in Game six. You love her abb
in Elementary, you'll love her even more in the Parent
Trap Go Back. You'll get fouls like offensive fouls. You'll
get fouls, You'll get fouls like blocking calls. You'll get
all of them here in this one easy to grab
(33:31):
cd uh and they get a bonus disc of all
of the challenges and the conversations had by the officials
as we go to the sideline table. So where am I?
I'm happy? Obviously, I'm glad they won. I feel like
I did. I feel a lot like I did after
they won Game three. Okay, what did they do? They
(33:51):
bought themselves another couple of days. Well, because this is
the end, like this just could be ending, This could
be it they anymore? The killer awoke before its gonna
be he put his boots on. But I but I'm
they you know, they won a couple of games. I'm happy,
but I'm more of the Okay, this was great. Now
he don't don't get too happy now. Now we gotta
(34:13):
go for game six. Like when in a Bull Durham,
when uh, when Tim Robbins comes off the mat and
he's all happy because he struck out the side and
he goes, hey man, this is great, and and Kevin
Coss says, you kidding. Your fastball was up here, your
curve ball was here. In the show, they would have
ripped you. And he goes, can't you let me enjoy
the moment? He said, the moment's over and he goes
up to hit like, okay, that's great. Like the Knicks
won this game. Okay, it's over now, Now you gotta
(34:35):
go Game six. I will be very excited and crazy
again if the Knicks win Game six. But what did
they do again? I feel like they did after game Hey,
they won Game three, they made the next couple of
days matter. They won tonight. They make the next couple
of days matter. Not gonna yell and scream or suddenly
at the end of the show, go you know what.
I have a time to sit here and think about this,
and I've had a lot of alcohol, and I'm telling
(34:56):
you we're gonna win Game six. We're gonna go win
game sex. Like, this is where I'm at. This is
the Hey, great tonight. Awesome, they showed up to win.
But okay, now we get onto games. I'm not getting
that excited. Well, it is a big Thursday night. Summer
has unofficially started, So I mean the bars are gonna
be full on a Thursday night. You can go and
(35:17):
get after it a little bit. I mean, I'll fill
a buster and then you can come back after a
couple of shots to close things out. Shoting a beer,
shot a beer. No, the thing that you know. The
thirty thousand foot view you being Knicks fan, me trying
to keep you calm, right, highs and lows, you know,
ride the lightning. The roller coaster of it all is
(35:37):
as a guy watching the NBA and thinking that you
know who teams are and their identities, particularly at this
point in the year, right, we often get into the
NFL playoffs going I have no idea what I'm getting
from this squad. And for the NBA, we we we
think we know their identity. And if the Knicks had
gone back to Madison Square Garden and gotten punked tonight
(35:59):
by the Pacers, then they were all frauds the entire time.
So I knew they'd or I had hoped, I guess,
and hope being a dangerous word, is that they'd show
up with the physicality and the effort of we're not
going down like we just watched the Timberwolves, because don't
tell me, to a man, they didn't watch the way
that game went down and go, man, we can't do that.
(36:21):
And in New York, I mean, if you're the sports
sports section editor, you're like, I just need to reserve
a lot of column inches. I know, Look, the Yankees
don't play the Dodgers till tomorrow, so we got you know,
and we've already got the preview of that that's in
the can. Here's what we have to work with. It's
all of this game, and the poison pens are out
(36:41):
if it goes the wrong way. And the players and
staff they knew damn well coming into that opening tip
that people were ready to go after them. For Kat
and Jalen Brunson given their defensive liabilities at time, and
we chronicled them through the regular season. It's nothing new
new to to us. I mean we we've watched it
(37:02):
and probably commented it up more nationally than anybody else would,
of course, as we are apt to do. But you know,
watching this squad in the bench, players, the McBride file,
whether you thought it should have been a plaguing or not,
that's that's the identity of who this team. I thought
they were so to see some of that said, it
(37:23):
took to game five to get it, but you got
it tonight, which means I can't wait for game six
to see, you know what kind of effort they bring in.
Whether Halliburton's Dad's back on at court side now it
may not matter. Because I got this tweet from Amy okay,
who sent me a picture from a Reddit and and
this is this is crazy if this you know, but
(37:48):
you had me at She sent me a picture a
picture of him from from a Reddit thread that someone
who was a Knicks fan put out, I just paid
a witch on Etsy to cast a spell to help
the Knicks win night. And then they they added like
what they paid and here the I was like twenty
one dollars and they had like twelve dollars in credit,
so they paid, they paid eight dollars credits they had credit,
(38:08):
so it was twenty one bus what they ordered the
previous time. That's what I want to know. I don't know,
but it was item total was twenty one to twenty.
So apparently buying a spell to help the Knicks is
twenty dollars in tax. But whoever this was also had
a twelve dollars credit so or maybe it was a
group on I don't know, but it was you're still
a thing eight dollar oh yeah, yah? Group I still okay, yeah,
but eight bucks you know overall to cast a spell
(38:31):
for the Knicks to win, you know, right on pch
right by the house. We've got someone who advertises all
the readings and whatever else. Maybe they could help actually
do those what's up, Frostburg, I actually do those? You do?
I didn't know that, you know, you know what I charge?
What do you charge? Seven dollars? What about six minute
(38:52):
of that? He's gonna give you seven minutes a con Yeah,
but are you a license?
Speaker 3 (38:55):
Which I mean, too bad? None of this, none of
this anything any none of this now at all.
Speaker 1 (39:00):
Of course it matters. None of this matter. If the
if the beause you had their funeral planned for tonight. Yeah,
well apparently we did. We you know, there was a
problems with the weather. You have to set this one out,
set this one out. You don't get the said as
I think I gave a pretty absolutely where I am. No, No,
(39:22):
you need two nights ago, you know. But I think
I'm celebrating the last night. I think I am pretty
pretty honest about where I am and where I am
celebration wise with this. All right, So for you, it's
eight dollars, eight dollars for me. But you got to
show me that you're a like legitimate witch or wizard
or warlock. Like you got to show me you're casting
crazy spells on the next Really, are you going to
(39:45):
use all your spells for the Yankees. Yankees pose no threat. Okay,
I'm just making sure Judge drop another fly ball. Yet
it's an end of May, beginning of June series
