Speaker 2 (00:23):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 1 (00:29):
Hello, Welcome and sad our three The Jason Smith Show
with my best friend Mike Harmon. Moving right along live
from the Fox Sports Radio studios. We'll get into that
big NFL story coming up at a minute, because it
just really I'm now worried about this guy, and I
wasn't up until today.

Speaker 3 (00:48):
Yeah, you worry about a lot of things I do.

Speaker 1 (00:51):
But a little bit more in the conversation we had
a few minutes ago where Steph Curry went on CNBC
earlier today and said that, yeah, you could be looking
into a broadcast career when it's playing days are over
NBA television, not NBA TV, not the network itself, but
the NBA on television. The analysts, the experts, the insiders,

(01:12):
they're all killers. He's too nice I know he's a
baby face assass and we called it, but he's got
an incredible reputation that are you really going to suddenly
turn into someone who can swing with all these guys
when it gets to heavyweight stuff on camera, right like
Shack Heavyweight, Man Barkley heavy especially when they go on
TV next your ESPN, they don't give a crap about anything.

Speaker 3 (01:35):
Well, they said they're coming to blank everybody.

Speaker 1 (01:36):
They're gonna be insulting Pat McAfee, insulting Steven A.

Speaker 3 (01:39):
Smith.

Speaker 1 (01:39):
I mean, when you think about the thing about the
NBA is that you know, this last fifteen or twenty
years in sports talk television and radio, you know, okay,
big hot takes and saying really outlandish things, right, we
get it. And all the athletes that are coming in now,
that's all they've seen, right since they were coming up,
like all these guys in their thirties and forties like this,
when they started paying tention to television, this is what

(02:01):
we see. You got to be outlet, you got to
be unafraid, which is awesome because the landscape before this,
before the last ten or fifteen years, has been hey,
here comes a guy on TELEVI after a great sporting
career and is he really gonna be that great? He's
really gonna be great on television and some of those
guy sometimes they're not right. Like that's why a guy
like Howie Long has such a great career because he
was one of the first guys that, hey, I'll be
critical of something, be critical of other people. Terry Bradshaw

(02:24):
just says whatever that he wants to. This is why
the Fox Show has been so good for so long.
But now that's become the norm. And now here comes
Steph Curry, fresh faced. Hey, I'm in everything's great. Ye
had a great career, all of this, all this now, yeah, hey,
what do you think of Karl Anthony Towns Well, he
had a tough series. Now click click click click click,
like you have to come out and be okay with

(02:46):
throwing fire at players that are gonna text you after
your segment is over saying what the hell are you doing? Man?
You really think that about me? Some guys don't care.
Draymond Green does not care. He's gonna come in. He's
gonna kick Charles Barkley out like he's like like he's
kicking Garyot like like President Harrison Ford a President Marshall
kicked Doug Gary Oldman out of the plane Air Force one.

Speaker 3 (03:06):
This is my plane, Get off my plane.

Speaker 1 (03:08):
This is what Traymond Green is gonna do to Barkley,
who's been setting the tone like this is what this is.
This is a man situation here on televid NBA. Not
that Steph doesn't have the charisma. It's not like he
doesn't have the the the resume. Of course he's incredible.
But when you have such a great reputation and you
are universally loved, well, guess what, man, are you really

(03:31):
gonna go to the lengths you need to because look
at all these guys are succeeding in the NBA. Draymond
Green polarizing, Charles Barkley polarizing, Shaquille O'Neal polarizing.

Speaker 3 (03:39):
All of these guys.

Speaker 1 (03:40):
Hey, hey, I don't care because they're used to getting
criticized and they say, I don't give a crap.

Speaker 3 (03:44):
Man. Again, these guys are absolute killers on TELL. And
I mean that from a great broadcasting what makes television
phenomenal point of view? Right, you throw these guys out there,
they're killers. Man. This is not for you. Man, You're
too nice for Andre the NBA on television. Yeah, and
some of it for me, it passes in one ear
and out the other. I mean, like a little more

(04:06):
nuanced substance, not that we do and don't like a
little back and forth and slap verbal slap fighting that
we've seen. I mean. Barkley was on with Dan Patrick
on the network this morning. He said, I got contract
for seven, but I'm only doing two. Yeah, all right,
so and how many? Well, but that's just it, and
then it'll be another two, that it'll be another two

(04:27):
and talking about you know, rehearsals or whatever else. And
again they didn't go away, they're just changing venues. But
all of that to say, I'd be curious to see
what Steph Curry would bring to the table. He's saying
he's got to be all in on it. I think
he's got too many other ventures that he's handled. And
that's the whole thing with Brady, you have, he has

(04:48):
too many other ventures. I'm also part owner of the Raiders.
I also have you know, the TV twelve. Like, I'm
not all in on this thing. Like every all these
other guys, they all have interest too, but not as public,
not as far reaching where I go on.

Speaker 1 (05:01):
This is my main thing that I do. Man, I
go in and I go to eat every single day.
You turn that microphone on you mike me up. I'm
going to eat now.

Speaker 3 (05:09):
We chuckle a bunch when you're talking about you know,
I'll say, Kendrick Perkins, not just because you were talking
about eating, but you know, Paul Pierce, all these guys,
they've all no idea, they're all polarizing, they all don't care.
And that's what makes that's what helps make you great. Yeah,
you have no idea. Well that's subjective enough. You have
the I d G A F.

Speaker 1 (05:30):
Man, it can make you great at what you I'm saying,
and the greatness is in the eye of the behold
when it comes to it.

Speaker 3 (05:37):
Can I take you successful at what you do?

Speaker 1 (05:39):
But I mean, just greatness would imply that what you're
giving me is actually great.

Speaker 3 (05:47):
I don't know. But all of that to say that,
it's it's the opportunity to when they are going to
crack the mics. I don't know what's coming next, right,
It's that old Howard Stern thing from private parts, like
why do they listen to him? You know those that
they hate him listen more but it's like, I want
to see what he's going to say next. And for Perkins,

(06:07):
for Pearce and those that at Barkley for sure, Shack
which guy he's gonna go after? And Kenny Smith just
sitting there shaking his head during all of that. Now
now he's cursing on the on the outgoing thing. It's
like if you feel like his stuff was going to
be diminished, I don't know. But all of that to say,
for Steph Curry, I'd be curious, you know, do you
jump in line with this? Can you? Would?

Speaker 1 (06:28):
You?

Speaker 3 (06:29):
I mean, because remember what happened, you know, Kobe Bryant,
what he did with all his different ventures. Would he
eventually have come back to the game. Maybe would have
been ownership, Might he have been a studio guy or something,
I don't know. Love of game might bring you back?
And what kind of nuance you would bring there? And
for Steph Curry in that, that becomes the question I

(06:49):
think dealing with Draymond, you got the hot take in
you garon damn t He's got fifteen years if it
built up, just ready to be ungrked at some point.
He's seeing a lot of stuff, man. Yeah, But but
is he gonna say it?

Speaker 1 (07:02):
Is he gonna or are you gonna get a little
bit I'm a little uncomfortable.

Speaker 3 (07:06):
I don't know about this story.

Speaker 1 (07:07):
Look, guys that have big reputations that are universally loved,
and that's the Steph Curry of course, of course Steph
who hates Steph Curry?

Speaker 3 (07:15):
Who hates Steph Curry?

Speaker 1 (07:16):
Outside of boy he beats my team in in you
know a lot of people, okay, but nobody hates him.
Nobody hates Tom Brady. These guys have the biggest Q
ratings of a lot of people. Well yeah, but here's
the thing. Now, Tom Brady hasn't played for.

Speaker 3 (07:30):
One sixteen million people in New York that hate it
haven't forgiven him.

Speaker 1 (07:35):
No, no, But I mean you generally these guys have
the highest Q rating, are very popular, aren't polarizing, and
they like that. Nobody's I'm gonna ruin my reputation or
put that at stake by going on television and saying, Hey,
Jalen Brunson, you steak I'm twice the player you are.
Karl Anthony Towns, how about an effort on defense once
in a while? So oh, Giannu Noby is not screaming

(07:57):
at you on the sidelines, right, like, is that gonna happen?

Speaker 4 (08:00):
Hug?

Speaker 3 (08:01):
I'm just going for a hug yet, But I'm just
going to what upset me?

Speaker 1 (08:06):
And that was just all over the you know, that
was cathartic. I can see that, but I mean, but
is he really People that have that kind of image
aren't going to aren't going just simply not They're not
going to put that at risk and go, hey, you know,
I have this business venture that's going out there, and
I'm worried about what people are going to think. Right,
the old the old Michael Jordan line Republicans by sneakers too, right.

(08:26):
I don't want to say anything to outleantish because I
want to appeal to everybody. And if you have a business,
you have something going on, well, I could be alienating,
have to be. I could be alienating everybody that loves
Kevin Durant. I could be alien everybody that loves this guy,
especially on the air saying this, do I really want
to do this? Do I want to get in a
back and forth where suddenly something is said, no, I'm

(08:47):
not going to do it. I just people with that
kind of and Steph has Steph Patrick Mahomes. These guys
have incredible reputations that am I gonna put that at
risk for that?

Speaker 4 (08:56):
I don't.

Speaker 3 (08:56):
I don't see. What's funny is the Jordan thing, as
we'd find out in so many of these documentaries, is
if it's the old Watergate, you know, follow the money. Uh,
Jordan told you where he was politically for years in
a lot of money and donations to different candidacies and whatever.
Just back then it wasn't the same level of scrutiny

(09:18):
that it is now in terms of what people do
with their checks. But yeah, for step for Steph Curry,
I would like to see an extension of the Holy
Moly franchises. You know, people seem to love whatever the
hell it is that the Savannah Bananas are doing, so
stuff could do that for basketball, team up with ice
Cube Bananas a basket team up with ice Cube and
figure that out on a whole other way. If they

(09:39):
can find Troy Gloss, you can find anybody. Well, they
got that. The Great Hambino showed up.

Speaker 1 (09:44):
He Hey, come on, I think that's the meeting. Hey,
here's the thing. We're gonna present you as the Savannah
Bananas of the NBA.

Speaker 3 (09:49):
Great. What is that? Trust me, we got it. We're
all good is entertainment and you look like the man
with the yellow hat for Curious George.

Speaker 1 (09:57):
Uh so there's your Steph Curry as far as it
goes now, because you mentioned we tease a few minutes ago.
Saquon Barkley is on the cover of Madden twenty six,
right and the great run, the big run he had
this year where he turned turned backwards and leaped up
over a defender.

Speaker 3 (10:16):
That's the picture that's on the front. You then saw
a bunch of people trying to emulate and get their
asses planning.

Speaker 1 (10:21):
He's got a ninety nine Madden rating, one of like
the six players ever with a near with a ninety
nine rating on that.

Speaker 3 (10:27):
That's the only reason he agreed to be honest and
you're gonna give me a ninety Well, we have you
with a ninety eight. Click. Hey, sorry, we said we
had you in a ninety nine.

Speaker 1 (10:34):
Yeah, you know, we ran the algorithm and he came
out at a ninety nine plus.

Speaker 3 (10:38):
I mean, what are you gonna do now?

Speaker 1 (10:40):
Look, it's the Madden curse and there's do you believe
in stuff? Do you do you believe. Do you believe
in conspiracy theories? You believe the NBA Draft lottery can
be fixed? I just know going by history, Okay, I'm
going by history, And basically at this point, the Madden
Curse is an every other year kind of thing, right.
It was really big in the early two thousands, but

(11:01):
the last year is kind of well every other year. Well,
we just watched up into a running back last year
in Christian McCaffrey. So you have an every other year
curse and you have a running back who is really
good and healthy every other year. Okay, So I'm just
going by history for both of these things. For the
Madden Curse and Saquon Barkley, is he really gonna have

(11:21):
that great Not that he needs a run for two
thousand yards again, but is he gonna be at sixteen hundred?
Or is this gonna be one of those years where, hey,
guess what, not a great year, having a tough time
staying healthy?

Speaker 3 (11:32):
Who knows? Right? If I'm just going by.

Speaker 1 (11:35):
History and what I've seen from both of these things,
and if it's an any other year kind of thing
and he's not healthy and not great every other year,
guess what? Yeah, I'm worried about Saquon.

Speaker 3 (11:45):
Barkley exploding helmets from the old Monday Night Football opens. Yeah,
this world's colliding.

Speaker 1 (11:50):
Yeah, every other year, even with McCaffrey done, and here's
Saquon coming off of this in a monster year.

Speaker 3 (11:57):
It's like, ah, even though it's the off year, here,
it's your here, bam. So what do we get? Yeah?
Does that mean you need to handcuff aj Dillon?

Speaker 1 (12:06):
I'd be yes, it does. Why did you take aj
Dillon the first round?

Speaker 3 (12:10):
I know something you don't not. Yeah, no, it well,
I ran my numbers and protects the over under for
his games played. And the other part is this, right,
because this gets you away from the cursing? Is that? Okay?
So now the Eagles go and win the Super.

Speaker 1 (12:24):
Bowl and Barkley is great in the regular season and
he's great in the playoffs for a lot of carries.

Speaker 3 (12:29):
Right. So, now your guy in his.

Speaker 1 (12:31):
Late twenties who's twenty eight and almost gonna be twenty nine,
comes in after a really heavy season in which teams
are now going and had the entire offseason to say, Okay,
we're not gonna let him beat us again. Right now,
there's only so much you can do. The Eagles are
the champs and they're that town. They have a big
offensive line, but they will sell out more and make
Jalen Hurts beat them. So the opportunity I don't believe

(12:53):
will be there for Barkley like it was last year,
because yes, they're gonna want to cut back on his
on his wear and tear a little bit. But the
other big thing is that teams are gonna be It's
one thing last year to go, wow, Barkley's done. From
week to week, You're worried on one opponent, another opponent,
how hard it is to stop him. He's having that
kind of year. The Eagles have the horse as well.
Everybody makes their changes in free agency, they figure things

(13:13):
out watching tape in the offseason. This is what they
like to do. They will come out to stop him
this year. So automatically, I'm gonna tell you he's not
gonna have close to the year he had last year
because teams are gonna say, we're gonna make Jalen Hurts
beat us. So that's gonna be the guy that's gonna
have to We're gonna have to see the big uptick
in production because that's what teams are gonna do. You
may beat us, but we're not gonna ta Kuon Barkley

(13:35):
is not gonna do it.

Speaker 3 (13:36):
All I want to know is is the NFL as
a whole. Since we're going back to the age of
the running back reducts, do we also get the heavy
ass guys on the other side? I need more. Vince
will Ford, Hello, d Nadas and Casey Hampton's let's go.

Speaker 1 (13:50):

That's what's going on. I said two to one, said nothing.
I said two to one. It's two to one. I
know what you said.

Speaker 3 (16:21):
The score is two to one. I said two to one.
It's two to one. You should have seen him when

Speaker 1 (16:49):
Game to me last that everybody's giving me the Pascal siaka, dude,
you're good bro?

Speaker 3 (16:52):
After the Knicks loss of you good? Are you good?
By the way best moment of the weekend, there was
the what no, what's the post game? And now here's
your Larry Bird Eastern Conference Final MVP.

Speaker 1 (17:06):
Thing.

Speaker 3 (17:06):
He's gonna step forward? Yeah, Boscal, yea yeah, just yeah, yeah,
I was coming up to celebrate with you. Was Homer
Simpson going back into the bushes after that one. Bescal
just sees Haliburt and says, you good, bro, You're good.
You're good. You good? You got I'm the MVP. You good?

Speaker 1 (17:21):
You got six four your final? Look, look, I'm good
and this is why. And I appreciate everybody who's a
hey are you? Like they're asking me, I'm okay, like
like something like hey, like my car got stolen.

Speaker 3 (17:32):
Hey dude, I heard your car got stolen. You okay, Yeah,
this is bigger than your car getting stolen.

Speaker 1 (17:36):
This is fifty two years a few too. Oh okay,
wait a minute. Let me think, Well, if you could
have guaranteed me the Knicks would go to the finals,
but my car would be stolen, I don't know. I
gotta think that's a lot of out of pocket for me.

Speaker 3 (17:48):
I gotta think.

Speaker 1 (17:49):
I mean, I have good insurance, but I mean I
gotta think that's out of pocket because I mean, look,
they're gonna give you a rental car while you figure
something out.

Speaker 3 (17:55):
Yeah, you might get your car back. Yeah. Oh, I
don't know if i'd want to always get a new car,
don't you always? Yeah?

Speaker 1 (18:01):
Exactly, Okay, Gil, you'd be able to replay you get
the car you wanted to, just say, you know what
I was done with that one.

Speaker 3 (18:07):
Now, let you had a bunch of CDs in there,
then you'd be pissed.

Speaker 1 (18:10):
Uh CD, you stole all my guns and roads and
CDs from nineteen eighty nine on the.

Speaker 3 (18:15):
Clearance Clear clear Water UH tapes. You know? Okay, I
got those eight for a penny. What do you talk?
I can say this.

Speaker 1 (18:22):
My dad still has a CD player in his car,
and he's got the CDs on the uh on the
on the up top.

Speaker 3 (18:31):
He's got it like the whole round the visor.

Speaker 2 (18:33):
Hold.

Speaker 3 (18:34):
Yeah, that's where he's got his CDs. Did My older
daughter has as one that has a CD player in it.
She gotta inherited an older priests her grandparents driving it
a ton so it didn't have a ton of miles.
When she took it on, she's like, yeah, let's go.
So she actually has that full visor full of CDs
in there. She'd be distraught if they suddenly went missing.

Speaker 1 (18:55):
Natalie also wear a pan pocket protect No, my dad,
My dad hasn't worn a shirt with a collar on
it in probably twenty five years. Might not have worn
a shirt. No, No, my dad wear a shirt that's
his beef of collars. No, he just doesn't need it
to He's been retired for a long time. He plays golf.
Not need you dress up. He also need to wear socks,

(19:16):
which I'll tell you sometimes, Dad, you gotta wear socks
more often, right, you can't.

Speaker 3 (19:19):
You gotta wear socks. You gotta wear some socks.

Speaker 1 (19:21):
Why do you judge him? So I'm just saying, like,
you know, you gotta wear socks once in a while.
He's comfortable. You know, you got socks and new shoes.
You come over the house like you take your shoes
off that dad socks socks once in a while, just
once in a while. I mean, maybe you should just
have a six pack of socks that you buy now.

Speaker 3 (19:36):
You do it, or just designated Walt socks.

Speaker 1 (19:38):
Only just right down to the little place where he
takes his shoes off, there's a pair of just dangling
waiting for him. No, or you do what I do
and you get the little balls that you that you
open and you just put him in your shoes so
they sit there and your shoes.

Speaker 3 (19:49):
Smell great and everything's great. It's awesome.

Speaker 1 (19:52):
We've tried that with some cleats, did not weark Well,
cleats are tough because you also Sneakers are okay because
it's just you know, the being, But with eats because
you have the sweat and it soaks in.

Speaker 3 (20:02):
Yeah. No, no, there's only so much you can do.
I've got an idea. Go ahead, what's your right? You
want him to wear socks? Yeah? How Zoey buy him
for him?

Speaker 1 (20:12):
Father's that's a great idea. No, oh my god, justin
that's the best idea ever.

Speaker 3 (20:16):
There's no way in hell he's not gonna wear him. Hey,
try him on? Why do I have to try him on? No?
Try him on and keep on if you want to
get grant. But you're gonna wear these beaker socks if
it kills you. I really, I don't think my dad's
worn socks in is nineteen ninety three. Really, that's it's
a long time.

Speaker 1 (20:30):
We went to go see Hunt for Red October in
the theater and he wore was wearing socks and that
was the last one.

Speaker 3 (20:34):
Did you lose him in the theater? No? No, no,
no no. Joe Carter hit a home run and that
was the end. He just doesn't wear something. Here's okay,
I'll tell you this story.

Speaker 1 (20:41):
This is one of my favorite stories about my dad,
and and then and then look and then we'll get
into the nicks.

Speaker 3 (20:46):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (20:47):
When I was in college and I had to get
up at five thirty every day or five o'clock every
day because I did the morning show for Radio Stags
and Mason right was eighty nine right.

Speaker 3 (20:57):
The music mix is the difference.

Speaker 1 (20:58):
And I didn't drive at that point because I didn't
have my car, but I was because I grew up
in Staten Island went to Seocuse for college. I didn't
have a car yet, so my dad would have to
take me every day, so you'd have to get up
at like five o'clock.

Speaker 3 (21:10):
We don't need five. And there were days I'm like, Dad,
we gotta go, Dad, we gotta go. We gotta go.
But he did.

Speaker 1 (21:14):
But that was the thing we said, Hey, if you
do that, you know I'll stay up here. Everything all right?

Speaker 3 (21:17):
Great.

Speaker 1 (21:18):
So one day I get up and I get up,
get ready to go Dad. We leave about ten minutes,
you know. I get up, I have a bowl of
cereal whatever. Dad, We're going about five minutes. My Dad's
still in the car, and I go, Dad, And then
it's getting a point where I'm like, okay, we're gonna
get there, like really cutting it close. I'm like, Dad,
I ope. I throw open the door to his bedroom
and I go, Dad, we gotta go. And he goes
all right, and he and he and he takes the

(21:40):
and he whips the sheet off and the blanket off,
and he's fully dressed, shirt, shorts and shoes, and I go,
your dressing, he goes, I go, what do you do this?
He goes, I got dressed before I went to bed
last night, so I could just have an extra few minutes.
And I go, but why wouldn't you just get up
and get dressed. Why would you get and he looks
at me. He goes every second counts, So.

Speaker 3 (22:04):
He got dress one to grow up.

Speaker 1 (22:05):
He wore his shoes to bed so he could just
get up and over ready to go.

Speaker 3 (22:10):
Swear to God, Swear to God like Jelly's swear to God.

Speaker 1 (22:12):
Yeah, I know, like my dad likes to wear like no, no,
he wears like boat shoes, like the boat shoes that
you wear like the floor shine or the dockers or
whatever that's right now, shoes rolling your away to the
semis Uh. No, that was what he and he wore.
That's the shoes he wears all the time. And that's
who he's wear. He's takes it. He was like a fireman.

Speaker 3 (22:31):
I'm like, I'm.

Speaker 1 (22:32):
Ready to go right out the fires up, let's go,
let's go, let's go. Like all right, Dad, we're going
shoot up right, we're going and we're and he was
like we were out the door. He went picked up,
the keys were out the door, Like wow, that's outstanding.
I never thought about that. Being fully entirely dressed before
he went to be so so I didn't have to
spend them on the fifteen seconds that I get up

(22:52):
to put on his shirt and step into my shoes.

Speaker 3 (22:55):
As I'm walking out the door. That's my dad. That's
an interesting thought process.

Speaker 1 (23:00):
I mean, look, so the Knicks lose, and I'll tell
you this, I'm okay for the most part. Because that's
why I didn't get too excited last week, because I
knew what did I tell you? I knew that, all right?
They just extended the series. They're not going to get

(23:23):
past Game one and blowing a game that nobody in
the history of the NBA has ever blown before. In
the one hundred some odd years, no one's ever blown
a lead like that, and they did it. And everything
I saw Saturday was everything why the Knicks were down
in the series. They couldn't play defense very well. The
Pacers are wide open for threes. They're fifty percent from
threes one on one. Defensively, they can't stop them. And

(23:45):
the Knicks are allowing the Pacers pace like what four
times five times after made baskets, the Pacers fast broke
for dunks or layups, like the Pacers were the better team.
The Knicks were just trying to put to put band
aids on and find solutions on the fly. I knew
that wasn't getting excited. People are getting my timeline Togo,
You're not a real fan, You're this go No, I'm
just realistic. I'm absolutely realistic that this is what's gonna

(24:08):
happen because I've seen this so many times and that's
exactly what happened. So I'm okay for the most part.
But I know that now I have to live with
this game one Halliburton three where it falls down through
the net and he does the choke signal. Like, that's
a loss that I'm gonna live with. It's gonna be
part like a tattoo, that's gonna be part of me
for the rest of my life. Right Like, I haven't

(24:29):
had losses the where I think of one game. I
think of that one play in a long ass time man,
Right Like I think of the home run that Familia
gave up in Game one of the World Series to
the Royals and the ninth inning and that was I
think a Doug Bryan's miss field goal. I think about
the fumble or the fumble that Reggie Wayne fumbled in
the AFC title game against the Jets the next year,

(24:50):
the big third down pass that the Steelers get the
first down onto Antonio Brown before he became a superstar.
Like I've not edmund I haven't had a play like now, Tommy,
don't bring us up, don't bring them up. I haven't
had a one play like that that's affecting me as
a fan in a long time. But now this is
that time, because I'm gonna live. It's bad enough. I've
been living with Reggie Miller for thirty years. Okay, we

(25:11):
won that series, but that's the only thing they show.
Nobody cares about the rest of it. Now, I gotta
live with this Halliburton three in the choke side, Like
I have to live with the biggest blown loss, biggest
blown lead in the history of the NBA for the
rest of my life, for the next thirty some odd years,
whatever it is. I gotta live with this, and that's
gonna be really bleeping difficult.

Speaker 2 (25:30):
Man.

Speaker 3 (25:30):
Well, but I'll tell you, I mean one thing as
a fan of the flailing franchise, and pick one, I mean,
pick a card. But the White Sox, I mean, they're
no longer going to be the losingest team of all
time unless suddenly the Colorado Rockies catch fire big win
the night. But they're only gonna hold that record per year,

(25:54):
so all you can hope is that that one is
the beginning of a trend and maybe it'll be two
and one, four hundred and fourteen.

Speaker 1 (26:06):
No. I mean, look, I felt cheated though the way
that game went down, because they went out with a whimper,
so I didn't even get a fight to the end.
You know, the stat that you bring up the fast
break points off of Nick's makes was one of the
more damning things we've seen, and the broadcast they were
having fun with that on air, like, here's another one

(26:26):
made field goal, nobody back in transition, long outlet pass
and bam back for another layup or a dunk.

Speaker 3 (26:33):
Time and time again. We knew about the defensive liabilities
and then it became a sharp shooting contest once again,
the bench depth, all of those things came to bear.
But I was really hoping for the game seven because
I wanted I mean, look, you would have been able
to test the theory once and for all, how okay
you were, because it would have been apping live, right.

(26:55):
There was gonna be no processing it in post. There
would be no today, right, either they win or they don't.
But for those for that half because we were to
come on right about halftime. The way the schedules have worked,
that we would have been able to watch you live
and die with each possession great theater. And for all
those that know of Jason living and dying with each

(27:17):
pitch like he is here with the Mets and Dodgers
with that with the Knicks. I appreciate you being a
part of the show and listening as often as you do.
But there doesn't need to be a game today to
play a highlight. No, no yet, there really does. There
was two days ago. I know you've been dying here. No, no,
I've not been dying here. Ath they'll take it. They'll

(27:41):
backpen on a free from the m Yeah.

Speaker 1 (27:53):
No, that's all he did, was left. That's just a
border on cruelty right there. But but look, the other
part of it is this, right is that because okay again,
I gotta live with that loss.

Speaker 3 (28:03):
The guy that's not going to.

Speaker 1 (28:04):
Be living with that loss for another for the rest
of his career is Karl Anthony Towns. Right now, this
is not knee jerk, This.

Speaker 3 (28:09):
Is not all you know.

Speaker 1 (28:10):
You gotta let the dust settle and figure things out.
There's been no team that's been exposed more in a
conference final than the Knicks. Right, the Pacers absolutely exposed
the Knicks their their depth, their pace, everything, and you
saw all the Knicks shortcomings. Right, don't have enough players
that play play. They play their starters too many times. Defensively,
they're no good. The Knicks can't have Brunson and Towns

(28:34):
on the floor at the same time because a good
team is going to pick them apart. Right, It's absolutely
going to happen, and it comes home to roost against
the Pacers. So that no matter what, no matter what
you think with Brunson and Karl Anthony Towns, they can't
be on the floor at the same time because you
see that that neither neither player is good enough defensively. Now,
Brunson's one of the top five players in the game,
so you know he's not going anywhere. Karl Anthony Towns is.

(28:56):
Fit with the Knicks has been a little bit at
all length. Like we thought it was going to be good.
It started out well, but over the course of the season, Yeah,
his defensive liabilities really showed up. He didn't quite impact
the game as consistently offensively as you thought he would.
He commits a lot of silly fouls and gets in
foul trouble and that's not going to change. So Howard

(29:19):
the Nick's going to get better. Well, he's still a
highly sought after player who is a really good offensive
big man, and he's going to bring the most back
in a trade. So what the Knicks need to do
is need to playmaking forward who can take and players
who can take a little bit of the offensive pressure
off of Jalen Brunson, and someone who's a little bit
better defensively. So guys like Anunobi and mcl bridges, who

(29:39):
were first team All NBA defenders don't get hung out
to dry like they did in the playoffs. So it's
a simple case of you can't have both of them
out there. Brunson's the franchise and Towns is going to
bring the most back in a trade, so that's what's
gonna happen. He will absolutely get dealt in the offseason
and the Knicks will bring in a combination of what
they need, players who can, you know, ancillary pieces to

(30:01):
have a little bit more of a bench so Brunson
doesn't have to have all the responsibility on and bringing
the ball up as he does throughout the entire the
entire season in playoffs, and you have a playmaking forward
who is aggressive and is pretty good defensively and can
take some of that scoring burden away because you are
taking away Karl Anthony Towns. That's gonna make the Knicks better.
That will make them a better team, to make them
a better playoff threat. It will make them younger, it'll

(30:23):
make them more athletic. That's absolutely going to happen. If
I could tell you one guy that's gonna get dealt
in the offseason, it's gonna be Karl Anthony Towns. I
got more confidence he will be dealt before Jannis gets dealt,
Kevin Durant anybody else. He's gonna go because the Knicks
have to make a move because they can't come in
because no matter what, you're not gonna fix the fact
that when Brunson and Towns are on the floor together,
which is gonna be a lot defensively, you're gonna get

(30:45):
rings run around you.

Speaker 3 (30:46):
Yeah. I mean, and it's something we talked about weeks months.
I mean, I brought up Karl Anthony Towns in defense
becoming a big problem come playoffs. Going back to November
and December. As we're watching games, you can see it
happening and how they try to spell things and change
things around. How much more you saw Mitchell Robinson and
the limited bench find and steel minutes as they went.

(31:10):
What I was curious is you know, if you were
looking to do a poll question there of is Jalen
Brunts at the top five player in the NBA. And
it's like that five spot is a really contentious spot. See,
it's like you were trolling for calls or something.

Speaker 1 (31:27):
Exit out, bout of Fresco, Exit swollen down The Jason
Smith Show with my best friend Mike Carmen. Time not
to find out what's trending in the wide world of sports.
For a guy who's been called the Edwin Diaz a
Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 3 (31:39):
They're both here to perform in the ninth inning. It
is Steve de Seger.

Speaker 4 (31:42):
More like Alexis Dash Okay, a very good Okay, who
I've last I heard, Yes, the Dodgers recently acquired At
last I heard this former Reds closer is in Arizona.

Speaker 1 (31:52):
Be fixing him in the minors for a while and
then you'll see him in September. Yeah, can he start,
but they're all coming back ste yeah, well, okay after
the All Star breaks, standing by not holding my breath.
San Diego has just won in ten innings at San Francisco,
won nothing, meaning the Giants offense for now fifteen straight

(32:13):
games has scored four runs or less. When it was
fourteenth straight, that was the first time since nineteen seventy six.
So a great starting outing from logan Web.

Speaker 3 (32:21):
We went eight.

Speaker 4 (32:21):
Innings, ruined Padres win at San Francisco in ten. Meanwhile,
in Sacramento, the Twins against the A's scored six times
in the top of the second. It's now bottom of
the eighth inning, twins nine to four over an athletics
team that has lost six straight and lost seventeen of
its last eighteen games. The Mets are holding on two
to one. At Dodgers Stadium, it's bottom of the ninth inning.

(32:43):
The Dodgers loan run on Shoho Tani's twenty third homer
of the season. The Mets starting pitcher Tonight Paul Blackburn
was in his season debut after a knee injury, who
threw five scoreless innings, and Detroit did win again thirteen
to one at the White Sox Kerrie Carpenter three home
runs and five RBIs. Jack Flaherty got the win going

(33:04):
six innings. Detroit's record now forty and twenty one. The
angel scored six runs in the top of the first
and wound up winning seven to six at Boston. Three
early long balls for the Halos, who, believe it or not,
are the first visiting team in the long history of
Fenway Park to hit three home runs in the top
of the first Milwaukee won.

Speaker 3 (33:24):
Wait. No.

Speaker 1 (33:25):
One in the history of Fenway Park has never hit
three home runs in the top of the first inning
until today.

Speaker 3 (33:30):
That is correct.

Speaker 4 (33:30):
I think the stadium goes back to nineteen twelve. That's
a stabbing.

Speaker 3 (33:35):
The Knicks have even won since then.

Speaker 4 (33:37):
It's not twice, not like it's a hard park to
hit it out of. Just get hit high, too high,
too high.

Speaker 3 (33:43):
It's a different part.

Speaker 4 (33:45):
Milwaukee won it's eighth straight three two at Cincinnati. Colorado
ended in eight game losing streak, winning six to four
at Miami. At the Women's College World Series semifinal wins
for Texas to nothing over Tennessee and then for Texas
Tech which'll Oklahoma three to two on a walk off
Sackfly This is the Oklahoma program that had won the
last four national titles in a row. Sooners had tied

(34:09):
at top of the seventh final inning on a two out,
two strike, two run homer, but their season is over.
The championship Series Texas versus Texas Tech starts on Wednesday.
In the baseball Regionals, Murray State won at Old Miss,
Miami has won at Southern Miss, and LSU leads in
the nine ten to six over Little Rock. Earlier wins
for Tennessee, North Carolina and Oregon State. Detroit Lions Pro

(34:32):
Bowl Center Frank Ragnow is retiring back to you.

Speaker 1 (34:35):
Thank you, Steve. The Jason Smith Show with my best
friend Mike Carmen coming up next. There's an NBA superstar
that many people think will solve everybody's problems if.

Speaker 3 (34:44):
They get him.

Speaker 1 (34:45):
Next year, You're on Mars. If you think that's gonna happen,
I'll tell you why. Next Jason and Mike Fox.

Speaker 3 (34:52):
Is that Lebron James.

Speaker 2 (34:53):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific. Scott Foster is the home plate umpire for
ninth inning of Mets, Dodgers.

Speaker 3 (35:04):
Apparently stender, but shoe Hey drove in someone that wasn't himself.

Speaker 1 (35:11):
Honestly, that was one of the worst ball strike calls
you've ever seen in the history of Major League babs.
You blame your catcher the only time. The only thing
it's worse is when Angel Hernandez would do it just because.
But that pitch is that you see in the in
the in the box, it's right down the middle, flips
the entire at bat into Otani's favor. Right, Otani's up

(35:35):
first and third, one out, Mets clinging to a one
run lead.

Speaker 3 (35:38):
And diving stab to save a run.

Speaker 1 (35:42):
Instead of strike one, it's ball one, and that flips
the bat to Atani's favorite. It's a sacrifice fly. And
now Mets and Dodgers tied to.

Speaker 3 (35:51):
The dummies. I told you you got it.

Speaker 1 (35:52):
You know you can't put the you can't put the
winning run on second base, and there's only one out,
right thing to the y, Mets did the right thing.

Speaker 3 (36:00):
They got him out.

Speaker 1 (36:01):
When when it's first and third, one out, you gotta
think with Otani up loaded or bases loaded with one out,
you're gonna get at least one run maybe to no,
that's of the right thing to pop out. And now
the game going and the Dodgers is gonna win here
if they if they walked o Tani to load the bases,
the game would have been over.

Speaker 3 (36:16):
The game would.

Speaker 1 (36:17):
Especially the way the whole playing umpires up been, game
would have been. Game would have been over.

Speaker 2 (36:22):
See.

Speaker 3 (36:22):
I think I blamed that first pitch ball call on
your catcher because he's not set, he's moving up and down,
he has the glove up high, and then the pitches
right on. I fooled him, and Diaz should have been
thrown out for arguing. He didn't argue. He just went,
sure you can when you make a bad strike. Of

(36:42):
course you can't throw him out.

Speaker 1 (36:43):
Now, when Tony hits that fly ball, did you not
think that was carrying out guys at No, I thought
that I was gonna carry It's like drift ding driven.

Speaker 2 (36:54):
I thought.

Speaker 3 (36:54):
When Tommy hadn't been single to start the ninth, I
knew we're gonna lose. We're gonna like.

Speaker 1 (36:59):
As a East Ball cameraman and like during its Lancy's
hit was seven hundred.

Speaker 3 (37:05):
That's just it, Like is his day job normally doing
action movies it's the grand news. How do I create
the most drama that this game We've lost?

Speaker 1 (37:13):
And look, Diaz has been so good for so long,
he was due to have a blowt first one of
the year was due to happen. But whatever, man, you
know what I mean, really, but you're not getting calls
right down the middle.

Speaker 3 (37:23):
It's not gonna happen.

Speaker 1 (37:24):
The under his breath, Hey sneaks now Tanner, Scott's in
good good luck Scott Foster.

Speaker 3 (37:29):
There's a damn ghost runner.

Speaker 1 (37:30):
Uh So, look, everybody seems to think, whether you're an
analyst talking head, Kevin Durant is gonna save your problems.
He's gonna save the Knicks problems. He's gonna save the
Rockets problems. He will save anybody's problem in the offseason. Right,
He's gonna get traded. The Suns aren't going anywhere. Yes,
Kevin Durant still an elite scorer. They're gonna trade. He's
gonna solve all your problems.

Speaker 3 (37:50):
It's nothing else. He should take that job. That Steph
Curry says, he wants God what he wants. But I
I will say this, and I'm gonna be one hundred
percent honest with you.

Speaker 1 (38:00):
On this.

Speaker 3 (38:01):
I like KD. I like him, I like it. He's
still an elite scorer. It's awesome.

Speaker 1 (38:04):
Right, KD hasn't solved anybody's problems in six years. You
gotta go back to twenty nineteen, the last time KD
was a problem solver, right, Kate Brooklyn was a disaster,
and then okay, well Brooklyn and he's got two other
All NBA players to play with. That was a disaster.
But he goes to finish the other All NBA player
to play with, and that was a disaster. What do

(38:27):
you think is gonna happen? He's played with great players,
not like he's been alwa. He's been the only really
good player on a team where nobody else is any good.

Speaker 3 (38:35):
What are you gonna do? Right? Well? But but he
gets on a team with a lot of good players. No,
KD has not been the answer as far as hey,
I'm gonna help raise this team to another.

Speaker 1 (38:44):
Level in six years. Why do you think suddenly he's
gonna do it again. It's twenty twenty five. People think
it's like twenty twenty one. It was twenty nineteen the
last time KD did this, Right, I wish it was
twenty nineteen. Again right, hey, hey, ready, I'll got tell
you some crazy stuff has coming the next few years.

Speaker 3 (38:58):
Man, so just watch out.

Speaker 1 (39:00):
He was that good then, but now you've had an
achilles injury and you've had one team where he was
leading it didn't work out. Another team he was brought
in to be the guy didn't work out. Suddenly after
six years, he's gonna step in and the Knicks are
gonna rip off championships. The Rockets are gonna rip off championships.
KD is a scorer, and he's terrific. And is he
a little bit more athletic forward than like the Knicks
would have if you put him out there?

Speaker 3 (39:21):
Sure? But is KD?

Speaker 1 (39:23):
And again, Kevin Durant has not led anyone to anything
in the last six years. It doesn't suddenly just happen
that Kevin Durant's gonna be great.

Speaker 3 (39:31):
So yeah, is he still really good? Sure?

Speaker 1 (39:34):
But come on, man, you understand he's not not leading
you to anything. You're not gonna suddenly get him into
we're gonna win the title. Come on, man, it's not happening.
The other is, how am I guaranteed he's playing the
requisite games to get me where I need to go. Right,
he played what sixty two this year, seventy five the
year before, and then we've got a history of injuries

(39:54):
that go back years another year older. And if you're
talking about winning a title, you're talking about one hundred plus.

Speaker 3 (40:02):
Games, right, we're well into the hundreds. How much is
he going to be available? Is your team going to
be good enough if you bring him in that they
can carry any time he has to miss, you know,
load management or otherwise. Like, it's just too much that
needs to happen in set. It's not even saying he
needs to be a vocal leader and all that other
nonz and I don't care you could lead by example.

(40:24):
You're all supposed to be damn adults in the room.
So I don't need that, but consistency across the board
and building out a roster with him at this point.

Speaker 1 (40:34):
Out, Yeah, he's not a guy that you could look
at the back of his basketball card. It's oh, let's
go get it, let's get Snag's not that guy anymore.

Speaker 3 (40:41):
Six years is a long time. It's a long time. Now.
If he reunited with Steph Curry in Gold State, let's go.

Speaker 1 (40:49):
Coming up next, we got a big story out of
the NFL to get to. Plus more on the Tan
or Scott experience for the Dodgers. Oh boy, as he's
come out of the bullpen to give up two in
the top of the tenth next right here, Jason and
Mike Fox.

Speaker 3 (41:02):
Thank you.
