Greetings, Welcome in side Happy Wednesday, The Jason Smith Show

Speaker 3 (00:39):
Harmon, Well Dressed Hobo.
Speaker 1 (00:41):
Live for the Fox Sports Radio studios. For over forty years,
tire Rack has been helping customers find the right tires
for how, what and where they drive. Shipped fast and free,
backed by free Road, has protection with convenient installation options
like mobile tire installation tirerac dot Com. He is the
way tire buying should be. Well, raise your hand. If
you had Coastal Carolina in the Men's College World Series
(01:04):
Final in baseball, let's go, you had him in the beginning.
I got I got them going. The Channa Clears are
going all the way Shanta clear. I heard Chanta clears
growing on that coach will fight ship. Oh yeah, he
will come running through these studios. But their nicknames are
the Chance. Yeah, I know, it's one of those things.
It's the chance, but it's the ship shant clear, sound right,
(01:28):
no chance, they're the chance. But the chant. Now that
makes no sense. When Roger Miller was the Shanta clear,
chant to clear, Oh dear Robin the vtus when we
were watching Robin Hood back in the day. Uh, it
was the Shanta clear. But no, Now you've got the
coach he wants to fight. It's and the chant.
Speaker 3 (01:48):
You know what.
Speaker 1 (01:48):
I come on, man, you can't it. Man, this is
like Michael Malone. Mike Malone. He will come and he'll
try to kick your as. It's not like I say, hey,
I root for the Jets or the Geets. No, it's
it's Jets. It's what it well, okay, not the Jets,
you'd say it's it's it's it's the chance and the
chance to clears or the shans and and the chan
de clear. You gotta pick one. You gotta pick one.
(02:11):
Comes close to saying chum, so it's close that same
bow the ah as in Shunce. Well, the party at
Tyler Thigpenn's house has to be off the hook tonight
with Carolina going to the final. How about the men's
College World Series? How about yeah, well the party at
on Zuna in Matt Olson's house probably a lot, Biggs, Yeah, yeah, yeah, Look,
(02:34):
I will say this. I'll give you this. I'll give
you this. Frostburg.
Speaker 2 (02:38):
It suck.
Speaker 1 (02:39):
It is not suck. Oh my god, you're you're in sane,
Mandy runs. Did you scored? The Yankees scored more runs
than you guys tonight. Okay, they scored two more. They're
still going to lose. It has not been a banner
last few days in New York baseball. We're not gonna
give out the catcher's mass looking popcorn bucket for a
Mets game. Oh and I forgot How can I forget
(02:59):
his home?
Speaker 2 (03:00):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (03:00):
Okay, so we're still in first place. Everything is still
fine when we're not in last flight everything, so you
have the everything's fine is when you feel like the
rails are coming off and you got a guy who's
been on the disabled list. I'm sorry, the injured list
a hundred times. He's going complete game on if everybody
(03:22):
on the injury. No, no, I'm saying, Chris Sale, oh
what look, listen, listen. When it came down to it,
who beat the Braves to go to the playoffs last
year with the Lindor home run? Okay, we're still it
doesn't matter. I'm still dining out off of that. It
was a new day yesterday, it's day now. It's Ian Anderson,
(03:43):
Jethro Tull the Mets in the Yankees the last few
days has not been great, great Bob, but Joe Adell
hit another home run against Frostburg. Who wants to go over?
Who in an hour is gonna great horror When the
Dodgers are losing four nothing in the first thing, he's
gonna go, oh, it's a series in June. What does
it matter? And then the next hour is gonna be oh,
(04:05):
your season's over. You're like, you should be a Yankee fan,
because you would be absolutely perfect as a Yankee fan.
Everything is great in my world. Yeah, what do we got?
We got Colls just bought the Lakers. Well that that's
a whole. Yeah. You want to talk about a celebratory
winning We got Kohlik coming up here in mear moments Meanwhile, yes,
the big story of the day, the Bus family is
(04:27):
entering into an agreement to sell the majority ownership of
the Lakers to Mark Walter, who also has the same
agreement with the Dodgers, for a franchise valuation of approximately
ten billion dollars. Shams Trani of ESPN reporting this it
is the highest ever for a US professional sports franchise.
So the Bus family is out, well, almost everybody is out.
(04:50):
Genie Buss will still continue on running the team as
the quote governor for a quote number of years to
be determined. So basically what's going on is this, the
Bus family is cashing out. Genie Buss. Okay, I've been
the owner. I'm gonna stay for a few more years
and still run things any day because Loo, because Mark
Walter is not that kind of guy. He's got his
finger in a lot of pies, right, He's got he's
(05:11):
got big pies in front of it, all his fingers,
and he's got blueberry pie and a Rudbard pie and
Huckleberry pie's he's got a Laker pie, got thet Huckleberry
You've won. He's got all kinds of pies, right, Pie
pie pie, pie pie Right, he's got it all in there,
and so she's gonna continue to run the team. But
the Bus family is no longer going to be in
control of the Lake. They still have a majority of
(05:32):
minority share, kind of like Mark Cuban selling the Mavericks.
We've seen now the Mavericks and the Celtics and now
the Lakers being sold. So how big a deal is this? Right? Like,
like on the surface, I could tell you, look, yeah,
it is a bummer because I kind of like the
fact that, you know, mom and pop teams. The family
aspect of owning a team that's passed down from generation
(05:52):
to generation is sort of going away, where you know,
all big hedge fun guys and art dealers and whoever
else I own them, I'm gonna trade two paintings for it.
Like that's the eraror now of who we're buying teams.
And I understand that. So that's kind of a sad thing.
But in this case, it's not incredibly sad because, you
know what, the Bus family ain't exactly run the Lakers
(06:13):
great since they took over for doctor Jerry Buss in
twenty thirteen. So my big takeaway from this, well, yeah,
it's sad to see the mom and pop is that
And I'm being honest this Frostburg is gonna love this.
Maybe things will get better for the Lakers now, because yes,
they won the title in twenty twenty, but that's mainly
because Lebron James decided to show up as a Laker.
This is not where oh we did all these different things,
(06:33):
maneuvered the roster. No, they got Lebron James to the Lakers.
Eighty wanted to be there to play with Lebron. They're
able to grab lt that. This has not been a
run of boy the Lakers showing we really know how
to run a team. They had a five year stretch
of not making the playoffs. The minute the Bus family
took over and Jeanie Buss was installed as governor. They
have a couple of first round exits. They win the
(06:54):
title in twenties. I'm not saying that's right. They won
the title in twenty twenty. It's legit. You want to say,
bobo title. It's the hardest one to win when you
play all season for home field, the home court advantage,
and you don't get that in the playoffs, right, because
the biggest thing the Lakers lost was home court advantage.
They still won the title, but outside of that, they
had the bit of a run to the Western Conference finals,
but it's been first round outs. You look at the
(07:15):
last twelve thirteen years of the Lakers since Doctor Bus
passed away and his kids took over, and it's kind
of you know what you would expect Logan roy in succession, right, like, Wow,
this has really not been a banner last twelve or
thirteen years. So my big takeaway, Okay, maybe now the
Lakers can be good and Mark Walter's gonna clearly Magic
Johnson is excited, and there's maybe a different way of
(07:36):
running the team, a different way of looking at things.
Maybe money is gonna flow a little bit easier, a
little bit easier decision making. Maybe there's some people in
the way of making some calls that that are harder
to make when it's talking about getting a player or
giving money to a player. That's what I got go Hey,
lots of things are gonna change, But my big thing is, Okay,
I've seen how the Lakers have been run for the
past twelve or thirteen years, and now maybe things can
(07:58):
get better for them with this change ownership. That's where
I'm at. Yeah, a couple of things to it. First off,
you know, just when we go back to the fun
and excitement world of Walt Disney World and that title,
they did have one hundred days off, which was good
for old legs, old tired bodies like Lebron, And it
was a long time off, right, That's enough time to
(08:18):
recover from a shoulder surgery or something like that. But
all that to say, they do have the title. Folks
can dislike it all they want. It's kind of like
home run Leaders. You know from the quote ped Era,
those guys are still listed as the leaders, aren't. They
just say it anyway. But when we talk about this,
you know, the the lamentation of the mom and pop
(08:39):
operation goes both ways, because that's been the lamentation of
why the Lakers might not have been able to get
out of their own way at times in terms of
player acquisition development, et cetera. When we look at it,
you know, you have the tinfoil hat crew is out
already with the Well, that's why Luca ended up a Laker,
(09:00):
because it then pushed the valuation even no, the valuation
was already set because of the fact that you watched
what Dallas went for, you watched what the Celtics went for.
You look at the market, the size, the scope, the brand,
the history, everything of the Lakers. It's worth that much?
Does it come with anything in terms of stadia, parking
(09:21):
and all those other accouterments that you normally say, hey,
that has some great value to us as well, because
that's aeg. They still control that, but for Walter and Company,
they take over and we watch it. With the Dodgers,
you put people who know what they're doing in place,
and you say what does it cost to win? And
you go win because winning begets massive amounts of cash.
(09:45):
And the Sho Heo Tani deal, the Mookie Bets deal,
all those that they deferred on the Dodger side. I
don't think the NBA allows the same circumvention or kicking
the can down the road as it were, but certainly
you get created and when you can say, well we
need to go into the luxury tech and the second
aprons and all these things that we talk about when
(10:07):
it comes to roster construction. The thing with the Lakers
as they've been operating is they didn't have that cash
sitting in no man's land, right That wasn't a hey,
just go to the cash reserve. No, the the money
is actually in the banana stand as in the Lakers,
that's where the money is, right And as much as
(10:28):
they get from their their cut of TV deals and
their own network and everything else, it's still going back
into the business and you don't have this giant cash
cow on the outside to draw from. Walter and Company.
Give you that, right, you're talking tens upon tens of
billions of dollars that Hey, we want to go get
(10:48):
that guy. What's it gonna do. It's gonna push us
out here to cost more money, Okay, as opposed to well, financially,
that's not prudent, we can't do that. Yeah, you can
take out home equity loans in the form of selling
off a percentage and shaking off a little like you're
at Shawshank But in this case you say, wait, we
can get how much to cash out and I still
get to be in charge for a couple of years. Yeah,
(11:09):
during this transition, and we probably get out of Lebron
and Clutch Sports and begin a new Oh, it's a
win for everybody. Yeah, look and look it's a great Look,
it's a great time to sell. Obviously, with the franchise
being valued at ten billion dollars, you have Luca in
place to be your next franchise player. The new TV
deal is in place. It's a great it's a great time.
(11:30):
It's the end of the Lebron era. It's the beginning
of the Luca era. And all right, this is the
perfect that you have a superstar in place. They have
no problem giving him money. Walter's gonna commit and say, you, look,
whatever you want, we have it for you. It's gonna
be fine. Maybe we'll pay Shohy in Laker shares and
that's gonna take care of all those balloon payments we
have in about ten years. But honestly, like overall, since
(11:50):
twenty thirteen, it's the Lakers brand has taken a huge hit.
Right you think about it, it seems so long ago.
But five years a row of no playoffs. They couldn't
get it right. And this is with Kobe for most
of it, right, you couldn't get it right. You couldn't
keep it going. You couldn't even get to the playoffs.
And yeah, twenty twenty, you get to the top of
the mountain. You're taking thirteen years overall in retrospect and saying, okay,
(12:13):
well we had a really disappointing first round flame out
this year with Luca and Lebron and we had the time.
So in the last thirteen years, it's wow, you know,
this has been a they have really struggled and when
you are and it's like the Lakers and the Knick
struggles of the last twelve thirteen years has really been
tough on the NBA because the NBA is great when
these teams are terrific. Right, you saw the excitement with
(12:34):
the Knicks finally getting good this year. Yeah, they love it,
but it doesn't matter they big market. They carried in
the mix. They carried the mail for the long time. Well,
now you have Miami is great, and Miami is great
and Diet Dallas when they're good is great. But it's
not like having the Knicks in the Laker No. But
then you look at where we're at right now. Normally
this stuff gets pushed off. It's like, so, what do
we have today? We have Lebron in this podcast and
the trickle down effect of that, and we have this
(12:56):
Lakers move, we still have a finals game. Yeah, it's like, hey,
but you know, what business carrying. I feel I feel
incredibly optimistic just because I look back at the last
plus decade plus and go not great. Maybe this will
be better. Maybe different things will shake out, different way
of running things, different way of looking at things, not
letting Clutch sports run things like they did for three
(13:19):
four years. Maybe Mark Walter is a guy saying, uh, yeah, no,
I don't care if Lebron and and and Ad want Westbrook.
I'm not crazy. We're not doing that. Oh okay, again,
different ways to run things, maybe things are different. So
this is a moment of optimism. I'm I mean, I'm
excited if I'm excited for the Lakers because I saw
the way they run and how how business and the
(13:39):
way that the Bus family and Jennie Bus runs things,
and I go, You let Lebron and Rich Paul basically
run things for a couple of years, and now you're
finally taking control of the team. But okay, after another
bad first round exit, another prime year of Lebron, the
first time you had Luca and and it was and
it was and you were out right away, Like that
is a really difficult thing to get past when you
have had star players and you still can't win. You
(14:01):
went from from Kobe to Lebron to Luca and you
got one title, right, Okay, not that you need to
win every year, but it's not like, Oh, lost in
the Western Conference Finals, lost an NBA finals, lost in
Western Conference finals. This is no playoffs, no playoffs, no playoffs,
no playoffs. Lost in first round, lost in first round,
Western Conference finals, lost in first round, lost in first round. Like,
that's not acceptable, Lakers. It's a different level of what
(14:26):
you accept as this is the level we need to
be at and they have been just below it for
a long time. Bringing a guy who knows how to
run an operation, put people in charge who know what
they're doing. I find it funny that the first guy
to say, hey, great job, great job was Magic Johnson.
It's you and Lonzo Ball that shoot it all up.

Speaker 4 (16:46):
First pitch all the way from Blackburn, swung on and
drilled deep center field. Taylor gone back all aboard that
thing's leave in town a home run by Acunya head
it's won nothing brains. Three to two pitch and Olson
hits one a mile high to right field, a skyscraper
to the chop house, head out of here, what don't
(17:09):
it bat by Matt Olsen and he finally got one.
Speaker 1 (17:12):
He get barrel and he just top that.
Speaker 4 (17:14):
Thing out a fly o one ground bought a second
Assie is there flips to Alan steps on the bag,
Braves win hits, a shutout of victory over the Mets
five nothing the final score on a night where Chris
Sale led the parade.
Speaker 1 (17:28):
Oh great bonus play of the day. Oh yeah, we
don't have one big home run for you for the No,
we have all the Braves runs as they shut out
the Mets five. Sometimes it's so special. I mean when
you have a full shutout. I mean we don't get
a lot of those. No, No, Chris Sale, complete game. Congratulations.
We certainly don't get a lot of those. Man, that
that improves your Hall of Fame candidacy right there. What
(17:52):
a surprise Frostburg picked that? What what a suppose you
upset about? What an absolute shock? I gave you an
extro shock. Uh? Now, what was he's supposed to pick from?
I don't know. An Angels Yankees game? Boring? Well, the
Yankee scored a run. You don't think that's a player
of the day. They scored today a couple of solo
home runs. I'm up to havn't scored since Saturday. It's Wednesday.
(18:13):
Come on, man, that's a big deal. In case you've
been under a rock, in a coma, or otherwise detained
the Yankees have finally scored again. Meanwhile, we're watching this
College World Series game, which is just all sorts of craziness.
So yeah, I mean, it is just a weird winds.
Arkansaw is just absolutely melting down. In the ninth inning
against LSU, a two run lead and they blew a
(18:34):
ground ball play at first base. The left fielder just
misjudged a fly ball that could have been the final
out of the inning. Heel down and bounces off of
him towards the left field line and tying runs scores
we saw in the eighth inning, chaos of the first
baseman for SU with a fielding gaff just absolutely insane.
(18:56):
Everybody who bet under eleven on this game, Yeah, you're
gonna lose because there's gonna be one more run. It's fine,
I'm gonna get one more at least one. Uh So,
Arkansas and LSU with the chance waiting in the wings
for the College World Series championship. Eventually the Chanta clears.
(19:16):
See because you said shams, but it's pronounced chams chums
like it's chams but chalms. Sohos, it's a champs. Uh Now,
I'm gonna give you this gift Frostburg even though you
don't deserve it because you played the bleeping Braize, but
I'm gonna give you this gift. Okay. So since a
day ago, right, we had that big MLB the Streak
story where the guy, uh this MLB dot com has
(19:38):
had his contest now for the past few years, where
all you have to do is pick somebody to get
a hit every day in a row, and if you
go fifty seven days in a row, you win five
point six million dollars, right, Like, that's the that's the
the thing. And they've done it for a long time now.
And and guy got to fifty a couple of days
ago and could have gotten to fifty one except a
base hit to right field it turns into a force
(19:59):
out because the runner gets caught between first and second.
So what would have been a base hit to keep
it going was done. How I was doing that years ago.
I actually contributed to MLB dot com when they started.
So my dad and I taught, and you want to
do it, and we're doing it together, and I'm so excited. Right,
It's like this is good. We're gonna do this every
day and we're gonna take turns, right, we're gonna take turns.
I go, you pick one day, I'll pick the next.
That's the best way to do it. So I said,
(20:21):
you picked the first day, all right. Now, I'm gonna
give each of you a guess. Who did my dad
pick the first game today? Right? I said, here's the
one I'm picking, And I said, okay, who he's either
a Judge or a Stanton guy. Who do you think
my dad picked? I will give you each two guesses
to guess who my dad this is. I can pick
(20:41):
anybody any time in life. No, Dad, you gotta pick
somebody today. They're all simulated games. Right, you each get
two guesses. I'm going Volpian Bellinger, Vopian Belinger, Okay, Harmon,
I would say Judge okay and Chisholm, No, you are
both in correct. Remember I said, Frostburg just named like
(21:02):
half the line. I know I'm gonna give you this
gift even though you don't deserve it. So I'll let
you guys guess again. You guessed four Yankees, none of
them were correct, and Rice not. Why would that be
a gift for Frostburg. This is a gift for Frostburg,
even though you don't deserve it. What? Oh so he no, really,
hold on, my dad took Andy pause to get the
(21:28):
hit tonight to start things off for the thing. He goes, yeah,
I got it my first big Andy patus I said, really,
I said, you're not taking it? Wow. He goes, no,
I'm picking piege. I said, yeah, it turned out so
far it's okay. Right, So the way he worded it
was very not good. What do you mean it was
(21:51):
not good because you worded it like he took a yankee. No,
that's why we were all guessing yankee.
Speaker 3 (21:55):
Why?
Speaker 1 (21:55):
But I said, it's a gift for you. Why would
a Yankee be a gift for That was very misleading.
I think you must be an impossible well for a birthday.
But it was just that it would be a captain
obvious kind of thing, like he had to take a Yankee.
Speaker 3 (22:09):
No.
Speaker 1 (22:09):
I thought he was going with the heel turn. I thought,
I honestly, Once he said it again, I thought you
were going to say, Paul Goldsmith, he's up going Paz
I said, okay, two on runs four hits last night. Oh,
guy's red hot going. I said, okay, So Andy pa
has is our first guy up in this Still mad
at the padres manager all of those subplots. By the way,
the over under was ten and a half. For you
(22:29):
if you thought Frostburg was kidding, uh lsu Is just
walked off yes, winning tonight when it looked like all
was lost. All you need was Arkansas to play defense
in the top of the ninth inning. I have not
seen Livy Dunn. I'm waiting to say, I whereish. I
assume she's gonna be somewhere by it. She was drinking
(22:49):
tall Boys the other day. She was hating a whole
other It's like Sophie Cunningham we talked about last night,
earning all sorts of new fans by becoming the enforcer
on top of the fandom that she'd already built. Maybe
done took next next level stuffs like wait, she's drinking
a tall Boy final what she's doing cartwheels in center field?
Like they're they're talking to Jared Jones, who had the
(23:11):
walk off hit for LS. You're great, but like I mean,
Livy Dunn is the one you gotta talk to. Hey, Jared,
you're gonna be around for a minute. Were gonna talk
to Livy first? Okay, that's great. Yeah, you're all finding
good all right, I'll tell you it is really tough watching,
you know, back and forth. The left fielder on Arkansas
who missed the fly ball that that that could have
been the final out of the ninth inning is crying
and they're all talking to him off the field. Just
(23:33):
a really difficult moment, uh for Arkansas. The game winning
hit goes is as it goes off the second baseman's glove. Uh,
maybe a little bit of a misstime jump, but doesn't matter.
LSU are your winners tonight. The chata clears, waiting, catchable
ball up the gut, everything that could go wrong in
(23:54):
the field, did maban if you talk about having a
game on on the plate for you to finish it
off and send LSU home and showing the Arkansas dugout,
just the reaction man to man and then back into
the field, the tears in the eyes and in the
emotion of you know, the gravitas of this moment for
(24:16):
a lot of these guys, probably the last innings they're
gonna play. I mean, you have a bad throat of
first base behind the pitcher that that could have been
an out. You had the drop fly ball in left field,
you know, it kind of looked like the fly ball
to play the left field remember when there that. I
don't know why it became so famous, but like going
back like twenty years the big Brent Brown play, sure
when he dropped an easy fly ball for the Cubs
(24:37):
and left when the Cubs were really good and he
dropped an easy fly ball that would have ended the
game and they lost, Like he just got under it
and just lost himself, Like that's kind of what happened here.
And so you had that and then you had a
missed a bit of a misstime jump at second place,
Like that is just an that's just an all time
meltdown in the ninth inning for a team, And I
feel I feel so bad for aut Aaron judged it,
Oh no, if it went right to his glove he dropped,
(25:00):
it would have been Aaron judge that this was more. Hey,
I kind of got lost here and and dumble fall
to dive whatever it was and then off his body
into the corner. But yeah, just a brutal way to
finish a game. Oh man. Absolutely, uh time out to
find out what's trending in the wide world sports. We
told you about the College World Series game from someone
(25:21):
who's been called the Genie Buss of Fox Sports Radio.
She's going to spend the rest of her life splitting
money with her family.
Speaker 5 (25:28):
It is Yes, I hope to have enough money to
split it with my family.
Speaker 1 (25:32):
I like that. I like that, guys.
Speaker 5 (25:34):
You also missed. In this ninth inning, the Arkansas shortstop
had a chance for a double play. There was a
man on first and second. He fielded the ball and
went for the leading runner at third.
Speaker 1 (25:45):
He easily it could have ended. Yeah.
Speaker 5 (25:47):
Then came the tying run, then game the walk, then
came the walk off. So the shortstop was crying because
he turned his hips to third base instead of going
for the double play, and he probably felt it would
have been over it.
Speaker 1 (26:00):
It's so many things.
Speaker 5 (26:01):
Like I can't believe how it ended, but yes, less
he walks it off against Arkansas six to five. Jared
Jones with that RBI single to walk it off. He
also homered in that game. They're gonna face Coastal Carolina,
who beat Louisville earlier today eleven to three in the
best of three championship series. In baseball, we've got a
lot of games going on, like the lawyers and the Padres.
(26:22):
Padres have scored first here in La.
Speaker 1 (26:24):
One zero, top of the second inning.
Speaker 5 (26:26):
A's up on the Astros one zero. Bottom of the second,
Guardians holding on to their one zero lead over the Giants.
Top of the fourth, the Royals are topping the Rangers
six to three. Top of the eighth, the Orioles were
beating the Rays eight zero. The Rays are now up
twelve to eight, and it's the top of the ninth inning.
In Tampa, the Reds have afforded to lead over the Twins.
(26:47):
Bottom of the fifth, about to start. The Rockies are
beating the Nationals three to one. Bottom of the eighth inning,
about to start. Should I tell you about the Mats
you already heard.
Speaker 1 (26:54):
I'm sorry. There was no baseball the National League. They
didn't play. You're right, they did not play. That's right.
Brave shut out the Mets five zero.
Speaker 5 (27:04):
The Blue Jays crushed the Diamondbacks eight to one. The
Angels completed a three game sweep of the Yankees after.
Speaker 2 (27:10):
Their three to two win.
Speaker 5 (27:11):
But at least the Yankees didn't get shut out. They
did have some home runs from Jazz Chishom Junior and
Cody Bellinger. The Phillies top the Marlins four to two.
The Red Sox defeated the Mariners three to one. Boston
is now headed to Sim Francisco, so they get to
see their old friend Raphael Devers in a couple of days.
The big story in the NBA, the Bus family has
agreed to sell majority of the Lakers to Mark Walter,
(27:32):
who also serves as the CEO of the Guggenheim group
that owns the Dodgers. They're selling them for They're selling
the Lakers for ten billion dollars in Jenie Busses expected
to remain with the franchise as the team's governor. Tyrese
Halliburn dealing with the strange calfs. So his status for
tomorrow's Game six between the Pacers and the Thunder, well,
it's going to be a game time decision. And in
the NFL, the Ravens have signed cornerback Jay Yere Alexander
(27:54):
to a one year deal.
Speaker 1 (27:56):
Thank to you guys, Thank you very much, Basie, Jason Smith,
Mike Harmon Live the Fox Sports Radio Studios. Now, as
you mentioned, b a a day for Shadoor Sanders that
I think he would like to forget. He was cited
for going one hundred miles an hour one hundred and
one miles an hour early Tuesday morning. According to police
(28:18):
records in Ohio, he was stopped at twelve twenty four am,
forty one miles over the posted sixty mile an hour
speed limit in his black Dodge TRX truck. Look, I
have to say this because this is where Chador Sanders.
If I was giving him pr advice or if I
was his agent, I would tell him, Okay, dude, remember
(28:40):
remember in Top Gun when the bald guy, when when
Stinger tells Maverick, you know your family name ain't the
best in the business. Maverick, you need to be doing
it better and cleaner than everybody else. Right, he tells
a goods of the flyby and against the Penny Benjamin,
Penny Benjamin. Okay, the guy looks like Donald Pleasure. I
would say he's still alive, James can He's still a lie?
Speaker 3 (29:00):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (29:01):
He was strickland in in uh Back to the Future
strictly didn't you ever have it? Let me give you
a Nichols worth of free advice, McFly So, I would
tell Shador Standers this, Look, I know that you're in
the NFL now and all the drama with your draft
is over and you're on the field, and it's about
(29:21):
what you do on the field. But remember that you
come with a lot of baggage, right, right or wrong.
Perception is reality. You're a fifth round draft pick. The
path is clear for you to be the starting quarterback
here in Cleveland by October. Right, he's clearly been the
best quarterback so far. Again, it's seven on seven. It's
not equipment. It's okay, come on, run the numbers. People,
(29:43):
run the numbers. Look at him throw the ball. Yeah,
he has shown you that a and the desire to
see him succeed, that fans want to see him succeed
on is great. So yeah, Schador Sanders, Hey, everything is
in front of you, Right, everything is in front of you.
Have a quiet two or three months, have a quiet summer,
get back in a month and compete, and worst case scenario,
(30:06):
Joe Flacco starts for the beginning of September and eventually
you take over the beginning of October. Right, everybody wants
you've played really well, you've done so far, but stuff
like this is just gonna kill you because the issue
is is that you're a fifth round pick. Okay, everything
you're going on. That's having you right now is a test?
(30:27):
Right you're getting second team reps and later in camp?
Why the Browns are testing you? How are you gonna
be if you're not getting first team reps? Are you
gonna show maturity? How are you gonna be away from
the field? Can you ace the test of not getting
a speeding ticket going one hundred miles an hour and
sixty mile an hours? Can you stay out of trouble?
You are taking a test every day between now and
the end of training camp. That's what I would tell
(30:48):
Shador Santos, because this is exactly what's gonna happen for you.
If you pass this test every day, you'll be starting
by October. Fail it, and guess what you're getting cut.
You're a fifth round pick. They got four quarters in
camp to the two Super Bowl winning quarterbacks that they
signed and a guy they took two rounds before you.
If you fail these tests, you are getting cut. Understand,
(31:10):
come at this thing with humility and a desire to
prove yourself. And if you do that, that means you
are gonna have the key gate open for you. But
if you fail, you're gonna get cut. And I don't
know who's gonna pick you up. I don't know if
there's other team that's gonna say, yeah, we want you
door Sanders. He was given everything. A Cleveland went and
got him. He had a chance there. He couldn't even
make the roster because of all these things that happened.
(31:31):
Now this thing. Can you get past a mile driven
one hundred miles an hour and say, yeah, you can
get past that. But this ain't a great start to
the offseason when you've been away for the team for
all of three days, right, hey, vacations here three days
in guess what? Boom, here's Sdorg Sanders with a negative
headline about the Browns. You don't have the cachet, you're
not the number two overall picking the draft number two
O row pick in the tramp and he said, oh,
you gotta improve your decision making. But this is one
(31:53):
of those things where okay, how many more check marks
against you until the Browns say, yeah, you know it's
not gonna work out. Well, Jimmy Haslam's looking at it,
going how many jerseys we sell him? How much your
sponsors come on board for him? Those Super Bowl winning quarterbacks?
How much is anybody coming on for Kenny Fitton. Okay,
this one's fine, but here you go Fox eight out
(32:14):
of Ohio, because you know, we like to do the
deep dive here. They say that more than eighty three
thousand people last year by the Ohio State or Highway Patrol,
we're giving tickets for speeding twenty miles an hour over
the speed limit and more than thirty seven hundred, thirty
seven one hundred in a row. See exactly received tickets
(32:36):
for going over one hundred miles per hour thirty seven
one hundred in the state. The Ie team whenever you
get the Eye team involved, it's great. They've done several
stories on drivers speeding over one hundred miles an hour,
including a city firefighter was Clockett doing one hundred and seventeen.
This will be fine, but just like with the kids,
you need to be doing it better and cleaner because
(32:57):
you're not a fireman. You're not. You are potentially the
starting quarterback of the Cleveland Browns and the guy that
needs to prove himself and stay away from bad headlines
if he wants to make the team and make that happen. Yeah. See,
I think Jimmy Haslam is the invisible hand. So unless
this puts him uh, you know, they can't pay the
fine and he ends up behind bars for it, he'll
(33:18):
be He'll be the quarterback for the Browns because Joe
Flacco and Kenny Pickett ain't hold them off for long.
I mean, you've heard the stats for what he's doing
in the offseason workouts.
Speaker 3 (33:30):
No.
Speaker 1 (33:30):
Look, obviously, it's like when you tell your kids when
they leave the house with the car keys, make good decisions.
Same thing for Sheendior Sanders got it. Yeah, because you
don't have the cachet that you think you do. You
still think, oh, there's no way I should have slip.
Guess what you said. You're a fifth round pick your
curiosity right, and the Browns give it. Giving your curiosity,
(33:51):
that's what you are. They understand that you have to
have that that that's the way you need to attack
things over the next couple of months. And this is
not a great start to the offseason. This is just
another way of Brown's go okay decision making right after
away from the team for three days, look at what happened,
just saying the next time I'm on the highway next
to you, and mister Brownstone kicks in for you. I
know what's happening. Do do Do Do Do Do Do
(34:13):
Do Do. I was nervous driving in the autobond when
we went to Germany, like twenty years ago, and I'm like,
you weren't driving fast, and I think I can go
one hundred. I could go that, Okay, I don't know.
Hey that was great and I hit one hundred for
like three seconds. Okay, I'm not gonna slow down to Guaco.
I'm gonna pull over somebody else drive. I don't want
to do it anymore. I don't want to do it.
(34:34):
I don't want to or or maybe you were singing WHOA.
I mean, you would be speeding if that came on
the radio. Wouldn't you exit out? About a Fresca exit,
swalling dome? Jason Smith, Mike Harmon Live and the Fox

(35:26):
Uh Dodgers Padres. Machado just had a little bit of
chin music come his way, but instead it's a strikeout
and the Padres continually the Dodgers won nothing. Here is
the best rivalry in sports. Continues on. We have another
game tonight, we got the game tomorrow, we have it.
I think the Dodgers Potters are playing every night for
the next ten days. I got no problem with that.
(35:46):
I think that's good for good for America. So how
about a really overrated story? All right, really over it?
This could go any number of ways. This is great.
The health of Tyres Haliburt oh okay. According to Rick Carlisle,
he has quote a game time decision for tomorrow after
(36:09):
the left calf injury. The strain. He was at practice
today moving slowly, but then again, every Pacers player was
moving slowly. Wasn't a big intense practice. Apparently the MRI
is fine if he's a game time decision. Do you
really think he's not gonna play tomorrow? Do you really
think he's not gonna play? Come on, are they really
(36:30):
they're really gonna try to do one of these Komania
kind of things back in the day where it's the
rope of dope and then he starts shaking his fists
and the crowd goes nuts, and that's supposed to energize everybody.
I mean, like, what are we doing? I mean, really,
Halliburton is coming off one of the worst finals games
that we've ever seen a star have, right, and we
know he hears everything. He pays attention to what's being said.
(36:53):
His game is all about confidence. When he can import
as well on the game when he is jacked up
for a game, he plays great when he's not in
the tank. Right, that's Tyree's Halliburton. He's not consistent enough
to be a big superstar yet, and coming off this
bad game, all of a sudden, his injury gets amped up.
Thirty four minutes he played on that bad calf. Well,
if it's that bad, why did he play thirty four minutes?
(37:14):
Why was he out there at the end of the game. Wait,
was it really that bad. Oh, but now it's an
m or he's going to play? Is that an indictment
of McConnell and mcconaugh. Run. He just I can't play
any more minutes. Man, We would have played twenty minutes
a night, and I'm exhausted. But the more time goes on,
I see this and I go was this just a
(37:35):
way to try to take the pressure off of Halliburton
with two days ago? We don't want him. We don't
want him moping around and and and getting in his
head too much about what's happening. But we want to
put out there, Hey, he's you know, he's got the
calf injury. And I'm not saying he's not hurt. I'm
gonna say, but guys are dinged up at this point.
You played thirty four minutes. If somehow he can't play
tomorrow night, well then we're gonna examine what the what
(37:57):
the Pacers doctors did and allow him to come back
in that game game five when he didn't need to.
But is that really gonna happen or really gonna be
talking about that, or is he gonna be playing in
game six? The more time that goes on, Okay, he's
at practice, he's shooting m R. We heard nothing m
A right, it was a big thing. Sean's had you
got MRI MRIR right? Okay, So apparently the MRI is okay.
Apparently everything is all right, and he's he's at practice shooting,
(38:19):
making shots and taking it easy to go play tomorrow night.
I mean, the more time I see this, the more
I look at it as is this one of those
mental health breaks that the team is trying to give
him because they need him at his top capacity for
game six? And yeah, you are dinged up a little bit.
I'm not saying he's not, but other guys are dinged up,
and we really want this out there because hey, this
(38:41):
is kind of an excuse as we could say why
Tyre's Halliburton didn't play as well as he did. Right again,
I'll be the most shot guy in the world if
he doesn't play tomorrow night. I'll be the first guy
to say while I was wrong, and I'm gonna say, hey,
what are the pacers doctors doing? But again, I don't
see that happening. Yeah, you look at is over unders
and everything total points and rebounds and everything else. The
(39:03):
expectation it's set high enough to be like, all right,
he's going and you would expect he's gonna play. MRI
is clear, but still a game time decision. It does
open up all of those discussion points and defensible for
Indiana in putting him back on the court because they
did close it to two. Now was he responsible for that, No,
but they did close it to two, So you want
(39:25):
to say, well, we had our best guys out there,
even though he was not their best guy on that night.
Passive what for six from the field, just the four
free throws and really took himself out of a lot
of possessions, something we talked a lot with Rick Buker
about the other night. So for Indiana trying to change narrative, storylines,
(39:47):
et cetera. Yeah, I guess they can defend their game
five position. But if he doesn't come out and play,
and if he plays poorly, you're gonna keep trying to
go while he's hurt and he plays another thirty four minutes,
Like you've got to have another answer. Someone has to
be better than him at half massed. Yeah, I mean
really again, if he doesn't play, I'll say, hey, wow,
(40:10):
did I he's gonna play tomorrow night? Right, He's gonna
play Exit up about a Fresco exit swallowing home. Jason

Search Jason Smith and Mike Harmon thank you for your
continued support. Mike and I love putting this content out
for you every single night. So we have the Mount
Rushmore Conversation film, a very different kind of Mount Rushmore Conversations.
The ten billion dollar Mount Rushmore teams and sports lakers
(41:23):
who are sold for ten billion dollars today, the Knicks
because it would come with Madison Square Garden, the Yankees,
and the Dallas Cowboys, who probably would go for the
most money, probably if they've sold right now twelve billion
dollars in a few years, maybe get to fifteen billion,
getting north of that a little bit. The Dallas Cowboys.
The Dallas Cowboys, especially especially with honey supplies in trouble.
(41:46):
I mean, Jerry's got the market, yeah, corner there with
the cowboy beas cowboy bes and when you say cowboy Bes,
it's only one person going to join us. He is
a longtime NFL insider. You see him on the thirty
third team. Read him on the thirty third team. He's
also a Hall of Very Good voter. He's on Twitter
at Jason Cole sixty two. It is chasing Cole. What's happening, man?
Speaker 3 (42:10):
I gotta tell you, as the owner of the Cowboys,
I couldn't be happier. It's like it's almost like we
won the Super Bowl today. I just I just feel
so good about this. This is the day I dream
about it, you know, I'm just this is a fantastic
day for us in Dallas. It really is like getting
(42:30):
another ring. It really is, you know when you see
this kind of transfaction and what it does for America,
answer the Cowboys specifically and cowboy bees across the world. Listen, listen,
we're expanding. We're expanding all over where it's paying the old. Look,
that's where we're going to be next. I tell you
that right now.
Speaker 1 (42:49):
Your voice isn't low enough and you're going too fast
to talk like Jerry Jones. You need a little bit
better cadence on that. I started to get towards Hank Hill.
I'll tell you what I'll sell, pro Paine and pro
Paane accessive. So if if Jerry Jones.
Speaker 3 (43:07):
Jerry, he bought a hold Tartan or blue pills today, that's.
Speaker 1 (43:11):
How he is. If he decided to sell the Cowboys tomorrow,
let's just say this, I'm going to sell the Cowboys tomorrow.
How much you think he would get for him?
Speaker 3 (43:22):
Fifteen billion?
Speaker 1 (43:23):
Fifteen wow? Okay, it's even more than I think.
Speaker 3 (43:25):
Okay, I mean because you know you're going to have
to knock his socks off right to do it, because
he's printing money right now. He knows that that brand
is is amazing. And yeah, they haven't won a Super
Bowl in a while, but all these guys who whoever
(43:47):
wants to spend that kind of money believe in their
ability to win a Super Bowl. Yeah, your problem is
always going to be board this. I does that make sense?
And it's gonna be it's not really an individual and
(44:08):
once you're talking about like you know, you know, the
Middle East royal families, things like that, which I don't
think the NFL is all that interest in doing. But
you really have to have corporate interest in this one.
And the NFL doesn't allow for that much corporate interest yet.
(44:29):
Now they're they're really interested in it, but they're not
they're not quite there yet.
Speaker 1 (44:35):
That's want to introduce you to new owner Megan Markle.
Come on in. Megan said, a lot of money, a
lot of royal money coming in from from England.
Speaker 3 (44:44):
We're talking about money from Uh yeah, we're not talking
about that kind of Rodney. I have traded bigger royal
money than that.
Speaker 1 (44:53):
I've traded the Cowboys for Buckingham Palace and also Windsor Palace.
Uh So now I own them and and they own
the ow Boys.
Speaker 3 (45:02):
Live four Cowboys.
Speaker 1 (45:06):
I'm also getting Versais Louis the fourteenth getting some other places,
and uh yeah, it's a very exciting trade.
Speaker 3 (45:13):
Here that we have going on the Cowboys for Verfly you're.
Speaker 1 (45:18):
Gonna go living Versailles into Louis the fourteenth bedroom. Very
excited about that turn it to do it all in
cowboy colors. In the garden, I'm gonna say the garden.
The gardens take up a lot of upkeep. That's a
lot of overhead. I bought the hanging gardens of Babylonia
as well. I bought that from top Babylonia in the
figure skater. Uh so I have leaving no stone unturned
(45:45):
tie Babylonia looking up people out there. Jason Gold with
us here, Jason Smith Show would Fox Sports Radio. Yeah,
pretty soon we'll have to captain to Tineo mixed batch okay,
Fanta six stuff? How do how do we dance over
there to Cleveland? Sad Or Sanders is the one hundred
(46:06):
and one mile an hour citation? Any any blip on
the radar there for Cleveland?
Speaker 3 (46:13):
Okay? Other than we're going to make up Stanley Hagar
reverence that I can't drive fifty five. But no, come on,
it's a dumb thing to do. But come on, I've driven.
I've driven than that.
Speaker 1 (46:29):
You realize you're thirty seven hundred people went over one
hundred miles an hour on the roads of Ohio last year.
Speaker 3 (46:36):
This is not This is not that big of deal.
Let's move on to something that actually means something. I
mean again, it's a dumb thing to do, it's dangerous,
it's all those other things that you want to say
to say. But he ain't alone by any measure in
(46:57):
doing that. I mean, I remember Ricky Williams did that
year years ago. Ricky was just fine as a player.
He had other issues, but as a player, he was fine.
Speaker 1 (47:09):
I've also want to let you know that I have
bought Atlantic, that big city underwater.
Speaker 3 (47:16):
While a while, and they're throwing in Wisconsin and all
the roadways, and I've made things cleared up there for that.
Speaker 1 (47:26):
I bought Root sixty six, that.
Speaker 3 (47:28):
Fine fella, because you know, you know, beyond to my heart,
that's the last time we won anything, was we had.
Speaker 1 (47:36):
All the way across Route sixty six. I bought too,
so Latin McQueen can get all the way to the
Piston Cup, all the way crop. We bought that whole
thing to have all of that real estate there now
the whole thing, you know what what you do said?
The thing about your Sanders is that I feel like
every day is a test for him from the Browns. Okay,
can you handle everything we threw? Can you handle getting
(47:59):
second team wraps and show us you're responsible? And here
you are away from the team for three days, and
here's a and here's a bad optic and a bad headline. Oh,
by the way, you know, the same time, Henry Ruggs
has a meeting telling everybody, I'm sorry, I drove as
fast as I did and I killed a woman and
her dog. So I mean, I feel like this is
a bad This is a bad optic that Shador Sanders
(48:20):
can't really afford to have. In the end, he's a
fifth round pick. And if she's show, if he shows
good decision making, yeah guess what, he could probably start
for the Browns by October. He could also get cut
the beginning of camp if if his decision making isn't
the best, isn't the.
Speaker 3 (48:33):
Best he can be Joe Flacco for a job. I mean,
come on, like, you know, the little of that little
just that they that they drafted along with him, Joe
Flacco and like a couple of cans of corn, and
you know, like we're worried about this kind of it's
(48:55):
standard whether he can actually play football, especially with the
garbage that they have on that roster. That's that's that's
how I feel about this one. Yeah, like the decision
making that great, you know, you call them and say, hey,
can we think about this a little bit better? You
know that kind of thing. But after that, it's like,
how can he actually play football or not? That's my
(49:18):
that's my point, especially when I've got you know, seventy
five year old Joe Flack. I'm going against them, right,
Let's let's let's really be serious about this and not
over read into it. That's all I mean. And I'm
not trying to say that she understands it. There's anything
interesting to me. He's like a poor man is Jameis
(49:40):
Winston with you know, who can't really run, can't really
move that well, and makes question of both decisions when
he throws the ball and tries to do too much
with it. Okay, that's a class of Jamis Winston thing.
But like Jameis Winston, is also had a pretty good career.
(50:01):
He's not been what he was supposed to be at
the number one overall pick. But we're talking about round pick,
so let's just keep it.
Speaker 1 (50:13):
Well, I get Jamis and Russell Wilson and Jackson Dart,
tell me you don't want to be around that quarterback rooms.
Speaker 3 (50:20):
That's some spectacular stuff. Man.
Speaker 1 (50:23):
Come on, jameson Russell Wilson going off each other. I
mean that that'll be some of the most captivating conversations
you'll have.
Speaker 3 (50:30):
It's the second only to the Jets quarterback room.
Speaker 1 (50:33):
Right.
Speaker 3 (50:35):
Never mind, so.
Speaker 1 (50:36):
Heyton Field is going to run for twelve hundred yards
this year. You just watch. He's also gonna throw for
twelve hundred yards. Just watch.
Speaker 3 (50:44):
That's very likely seventy five yards the game.
Speaker 1 (50:52):
That's all we need, man, all we did.
Speaker 3 (50:55):
Okay, came how Garrett Wilson's going to fail at the
end of this season after everything that he's gone through,
Like Carrot was like, he's just getting me any gonna break?
Are you any gonna break?
Speaker 1 (51:06):
Dude? Garret Wilson's going to be so excited. He's going
to catch ninety of Justin Field's ninety five completed passes
this year. It's going to be fine.
Speaker 3 (51:15):
Ninety catches for three hundred and seventy five yards. That's
a wide receiver dream. Yeah, he should. He should be
all on top of everybody's fantasy board. Hopefully you're playing
a PPR league.
Speaker 1 (51:30):
It's the only way to go at this point. Hey,
Travis Kelcey down twenty five pounds, he's not on tour
and drinking beer. And it was euro Taylor Swift deals.
I turned back to block.
Speaker 3 (51:43):
It can only help. I mean, like he was, he
was out of shape for the first eight games last year.
He just wasn't ready to play. I mean they flashed
a little bit in the second half of the season
and it just wasn't a good and playoffs. But like
as much as that is, it's cool and nice and
(52:04):
they've you know, kind of refocused and everything did for him.
How did that offensive.
Speaker 1 (52:11):
Line well, especially now that he's twenty five pounds later,
he can't stand in and block.
Speaker 3 (52:18):
Mean, you better get open really fast because they ain't
gonna have any time to block them block for my
homes Like, so he's going to be getting rid of
the ball, you know, as soon as he touches it.
So that's the biggest question in me, Like they they
could have won the super Bowl last year, and they
almost did, you know, I mean not the super Bowl
(52:41):
game itself. They didn't really have much of a chance
to win. But they got to a super Bowl with
a substandard Travis Kelcey where they lost the super Bowl
and they really have a problem. Is that that is
substandard offensive line and I don't know that that stick Kelsey.
They just they survived. Its fine, not so much. That's
(53:03):
what I'm really concerned about.
Speaker 1 (53:05):
He's on Twitter at Jason Cole sixty two. That is
at Jason Cole sixty two Third Team. Jay Cole is
always buddy. Appreciate him.
Speaker 3 (53:14):
Man, we're putting up Super Bowl rings right now.
Speaker 1 (53:17):
There you go, not gonna have. But I bought some
other property I want to tell you about. Oh, he
was so excited. He doled out four hundred percent raises
to the cheerleaders too. Bought. I bought Scotland Yard, So
now I'm up on anything, all investigations that are going on. Uh,
I bought them so excited about bought the Hollywood sign.
Here you're gonna have a show on brit Box. Now
(53:37):
that guy got a couple of shows come back. Yeah,
bught by all these things. Yeah, so uh uh yes,
where all the money's going. And you got the Hollywood sign,
got the Hollywood side. Now it's gonna say, Hollywood Cowboys,
did you own the original land? Did you take that
when they truncated? And I sold it to Cleveland and
uh for a couple of billion and they have that.
(53:58):
So that that's some of my seed money that I
was able to put out there to get some other
things going on. Jerry Jones's Hollywood Cowboys lance. What is
gonna say? How do I subscribe to your newsletter
