just like the presets on a radio dial, so be
(00:51):
sure to preset Fox Sports Radio in the iHeartRadio app.
It'll always pop up at the top of your screen,
so lock it in, rip it up off. We are
four and a half minutes away from Game seven of
the NBA Finals because the Pacers have been managing a
twenty point lead since basically late in the second quarter
oneh two to eighty. The score is right now. We'll
(01:13):
have more on this game coming up in a bit.
We got Rick Buker sometime the next hour or so
with us as well. So again, look like we're going
to Game seven of the NBA Finals. And Tyre's Halliburton
looks fine on the bench now, waving a towel, smiling.
Not needed to be in the game with four minutes
ago in a twenty four point lead, But big story
out of the NFL. We talked about this yesterday, Shador
(01:35):
Sanders of the Browns getting ticketed for going one hundred
and one miles an hour in a sixty mile an
hour zone. We talked about this last night and said, listen, dude,
this is part of your decision making. You are taking
a test every day. The Browns want you to take
a test every day to see if you can handle
being the face of a franchise. We're going to even
(01:55):
rep to the second team. Is that going to upset you?
Are you going to be able to deal with it?
Because if you can, and you can ace a test
every day for the next couple of months, you'll be
starting by October the latest. Joe Flacco will get the
first few games and then Sanders will go right. Clearly
he's got the talent, but he slid to the fifth
round for many reasons. But he's got to be able
(02:15):
to ace these tests. He's got to be able to
show the Browns that hey, I'm responsible, I can be
the face of a franchise. Well, this story did him
no favors. Right, one hundred one miles an hour in
a sixty turns out this wasn't the only time in
the last month that Shador Sanders was cited for speeding,
because it happened another time as well, when he was
(02:37):
going over ninety in a sixty five mile an hour zone.
So he had one hundred and one mile an hour
this week and then earlier in the month ninety one
in a sixty five. Okakay, so that's this week one
oh one in a sixty and then about a week
and a half ago it was ninety one and a
sixty five. So this is now two things for Sanders. Well,
(03:01):
he plays fast, he does he does that don quickly
and gets rid of the ball, yep, and press his metal.
He failed to appear for an arrangement for the citation
on Monday, Faces two hundred and seventy five dollars in
fines and court costs. So now he's got to take
care of this legally. But again, you know I said
it last night, and now even if you disagreed last night,
(03:22):
you're like, okay, I kind of get what you were saying.
This is now twice in the month where Shador Sanders
has not given a great optic to the Cleveland Browns,
and you have to and he has to understand he
is a fifth round draft pick. He is a fifth
round pick that the Browns can easily just say, you
know what, we're cutting you. We can cut you in
the middle of camp. You are not that guy I
(03:44):
get going into the draft. You thought you were that guy.
You thought you were a star. You had your clothing
line and everything else going on and and and Dion
pumping you up, and yeah, you were a star. But
you're a fifth round pick. You're not a first round pick.
You're not a guy that absolutely have to give the
keys over to and say, hey, go ahead, take us here,
shot here, shot of here. Uh, You're a fifth round pick.
(04:06):
And he needs to act like it. He needs to
understand that I have to have a sense of urgency
when it comes to how I conduct myself because I
want to be in the NFL. I want to be
a quarterback. No one's gonna blow this off. It's almost
like I feel that that Chadur and Dion are waiting
for someone to just walk up to him and say, Hey,
you know what, let's cut through all the bs. I
know how talented you are, I know how great you are,
right all this stuff. None of this stuff matters, does it?
Speaker 2 (04:28):
No?
Speaker 1 (04:28):
Yeah, you get me, man, you get me? Yeah yeah yeah,
come play quarterback for me. I got a big contract
for you, got a starting job for you, Like they
think that's going to happen, And that's not gonna happen.
That's simply not going to happen. And he's got to
understand that his place in the NFL is really precarious
right now because here's the Browns who drafted you, and
everything that goes on is very public. And he had
(04:49):
a great mini camp, a really good mandatory mini camp
as well through the ball. Well, but if you get
cut by the Browns, who's gonna say, yeah, we want
to go sign up for this? Because they said the
Browns are are you already seen? Hey, Shador Sanders is
taking up a lot of oxygen at Browns camp, and
now here's a couple of bad headlines and he couldn't
make the team. Yeah, we want to go sign up
for that. We want to say we think he's learned
(05:11):
his lesson. He has to understand you are not that starry.
We're looking Rocky Rocky threes. I gotta take it all
the way down to the studs. Man, I can't meet
club or lying. I need help. And Paula comes in
and says, hey, you're gonna owe me a favorite. We're
gonna do this. Okay, that's great. They'd run on the
beach and finally Rocky beats him. He learns how to
fight right handed. He goes to Los Angeles, so all
of this stuff. He's got to have that mentality of
(05:31):
I am a rookie trying to win a job, instead
of I have a sense of entitlement coming in and
whatever whatever happens, I know that I'm still a start.
You're not a star anymore. And you have to understand
that these are bad things. These are bad optics and
bad stories you are putting out there. This is still
a member of the Browns, A high profile member, and
we're showing about your decision making that hasn't been the best.
(05:54):
Now this has happened. If it happens once, now it's
happened twice in a span of a week and a half. Dude,
I don't know what else to tell you other than
you are hanging by a thread in the NFL. You
got to get him back in the dank gyms of LA.
Is that what you want? All the guys that are
hungry guys ever got a chance that works? Yeah, Because
we're sitting now no title shot. Dave was hand picked rock.
(06:17):
Where we're sitting right now, is you got a guy
who's like, well, I've got a pretty sizable bank account.
I made money at Colorado, my brands and everything worked,
So if this pro quarterback thing doesn't work out, I'm
already set. It's the perhaps the the litmus test for
some of the nil handwringing that people have been doing
for the last couple of years. Of else, he's not hungry,
(06:39):
he doesn't want it, and doesn't mean he speaks to all,
but it becomes a formative narrative, an iterative thing where
he becomes the first in the discussions of this going
forward of you know you do you still want it
the same way, and he played well Colorado. We can
talk about wins in law since you can talk about
(07:00):
the roster as a whole in problems there, so you know,
dismissing that he played well. I and Travis Hutter had
a thing. You go to Cleveland, you don't get drafted
in the first round, but eventually they do circle back,
whether it's Jimmy Haslim just saying the guy's still there,
the guy's still there, go make the pick or whatever,
or they decided at that point, all right, there's not
(07:22):
much ventured here. Let's take a shot. If it works
as well as it could, then we win the lottery.
We win not quite the rock prety, mister irrelevant, but
we get a guy who costs us nothing and could
be a lottery ticket instead. Now we're watching a guy
who at least for two incidences and who knows what
(07:44):
else gets on earth, right, because we knew about the
one last night, and as like, oh yeah, this other one.
Oh and you didn't show up for an arraignment. Now,
maybe you didn't get proper notice of when you were
supposed to do. You can claim it was sent to
a bad address, all of those things. But it just
adds up to decision making faces of franchisees and a
squad that's still trying trying to look at the roster
(08:07):
that they've assembled could be competitive with decent quarterback. It's
kind of like the narrative we've had in Pittsburgh all along.
That's a pretty good roster. Can you win with it?
So what they do, Hey, Joe Flecker, don't go back
to the couch and you're still here for now. But
you neor had every opportunity and it was all glowing reviews.
Look at him throw the ball. Look at his numbers again,
it's seven on seven, it's T shirts and shorts, so
(08:29):
take it with a grain of salt.
Speaker 3 (08:30):
But he.
Speaker 1 (08:33):
At least checked the boxes of what was put in
front of him. So I was like, all right, great
first step and what one step forward and then two
steps to the side, and then a couple backwards here terrible,
terrible optics all around. Got it more for the Cleveland Browns.
Can't get away from being a Brown. Yeah, no, you
got to understand that that you are hanging by a thread.
(08:53):
You need to have a doing it better and cleaner
than everybody else. Now that being said, audio of the
traffic stop that decited for going one hundred and one
a couple of days ago has just been put out.
The body cam, the police officer's body cam has just
been put out. Now before I want to say right away,
there was no there was nothing going on with the
(09:14):
with with the with the body cam stopped door. Sanders
Uh answered all the policeman's questions. At one point, the
policeman asked them for his social Security number, which made
me think, is this a real copper? You can please
just like you know, we're gonna seal your identity like
social Security number and start buying a whole bunch of
stuff off Amazon. I can just say this, I haven't
(09:34):
been involved in a stop, so I don't I don't
know the I go back and look at this. I
don't know. What's your mother's maiden name, what's the name
of your first pet? All right, what's what what street
did you live on as a child you first date?
All of those. So here's a little bit of the
(09:56):
of the call again. This this is the from the
perspective of the bodycam of the of the officer who
sighted Shador Sanders for going one hundred and one in
the sixty me ow, do you know how fast are
we going? Me out? Okay, okay, we do. We have
the real It's not super Troopers, although I want to
say it's going to sound like super Troopers from in
(10:18):
the beginning. I want to warn you. You're gonna say, oh, Jason,
you're just doing this. Entire's playing something crazy and they
got superdru No, it's gonna sound like it could be
super Troopers in the beginning. But it's absolutely real. It's real.
It's real. Okay, my promise you. It's real. All right,
here it is.
Speaker 2 (10:38):
I'm sorry about that.
Speaker 1 (10:39):
All right now anovir lasses and registration, your registration.
Speaker 4 (10:50):
Carry it man. Sorry, it's something funny here boy.
Speaker 1 (10:58):
No, well then why you laughing? Mister Larry Johnson. Okay,
you know for a minute there there you get Larry Johnson. Yeah, okay, okay,
So for the other Larry Joe okay, yeah, no, no, no, no,
we we have the re audio. We have the real audio.
We're gonna hear it, we're gonna play it. Yeah. The
(11:19):
really doesn't involve Larry Johnson, neither the running back nor
the former NBA star All right, So no Grandmama, no
NBA star way better. Uh yeah true, yeah yeah. Although
Larry Johnson I think ran for a thousand yards in
his final four games at Penn State like that, some
kind of amazing run like that. Yeah, he got into
some other stuff though. Yeah. So here's some of there.
(11:39):
Here's some of the body cam from the police officer
Colorado and one. Okay, all right, this is real. Okay,
it still sounds like it's not. It's not. You know,
(12:01):
it's not super tune. It's okay, it's not. You know.
I know it because I know this is real because
I watched it. Were these deleted footage. This is a
director's company. WHOA. How do you know? I know it's
not because I know because I slid security, Jason, I'm
gonna it's one, two, three, four, five, six seven eight nine.
(12:22):
Was there an eight before the nine? There's an eight
before the nine? There you go.
Speaker 5 (12:25):
Did you watch shot same street earlier? You knew how
to do that? Excuse me? It was electric company one, two, three, four, five,
six seven eight non ten eleven twelve. A little bit
more of the of the audio right here. God, let's
hear some more.
Speaker 1 (12:41):
Got you one hundred and one miles an hour, your
license for insurance on you? Yeah, see I got her
in ninety two. Okay, gotta stop it. So apparently that
was your door. Sanders is saying, and I'm guessing, but
it's sad of him saying, did you got that woman
that just flew past me? And he's like, yeah, I
(13:01):
got her going ninety two? Oh what about that woman?
What about no? A hundred and one? Yeah? Which is
the which is the best thing when when when someone
you get pulled over and you go all these cars
are going faster than I was. Yeah, but I got
you and I pulled you over. Yeah I know, but
all these other people are going fast. He doesn't even
realize he's dealing with like a super cock. Yeah, he's
I got you, I got this is like a T
(13:22):
one thousand. This is just going by the protocol, right,
he's going step for step. He goes, have you seen
this boy? And it's from Terminator too. It's every Eddie,
that little little guy from from Different Strokes that showed
up Sam that was his cooks. Yeah, the mullet. Yeah, yeah,
(13:47):
I see that guy he's over there. Man, Hey, I
saw that guy pushes him out of the way, and
he goes, oh, yeah, Danny Cooks. They really put that
guy in some really bad situations at the end of
Different Strokes because they really started to go into some
really weird story We have some really dark storylines at
the end of Different Strokes. Yeah they did. Yeah, that
was Yeah, it wasn't the same show. It wasn't the
same what's you talking about, Willie? Wasn't that lots of
(14:12):
weird stuff? Very that's a guy from w k r P. Yeah, yeah, yeah, No.
I was much happier for the for the Facts of
Life spin off. I was right. I was much more
happier watching Oh here's Charlotte Row and there's Nancy McKeon,
whom I've loved my entire life. Hi, Nancy, I love you.
Couldn't hold a candle to Kim Fields ever, I love
Kim Fields too. I just love Nancy McKeon. I loved.
I mean, I'm like Nancy mckid like growing up like
(14:33):
she was. You said, who's my biggest crush from like
the age of ten to like I don't know twenty,
Like in my tin Nancy McKeon one hundred percent, one
hundred percent. Yeah, I was team toody, No toty, got
tooty talk to where roller skates in the first season
slide around? So again, I understand that you hang in
from the NFL by a thread. And uh, that last
(14:56):
one was the real pullover, not not the not the
other one. It goes on for a while. Yeah, all
the different particulars about information and where he has licenses,
where he may have insurance, et cetera. But all of
that to say, hey, she was going ninety two? Man, Yeah,
how fast you were going? You don't think boy man,
do you know how fast you were going? Maw? What
(15:20):

Speaker 1 (16:34):
Fox Sports Radio. The Jason Smith Show with My best
friend Mike Harmon padres up over the Dodgers to nothing game,
moving fast, already in the bottom of the fifth inning.
No fights yet show heo Tani can be back on
the hill, gonna pitch on Sunday Nationals. Yabamono started tonight, Yeah,
(16:56):
ending that streak of opener games and yeah yeah yeah
eventually come back and then uh finding out, hey there's
stuff going on in the transaction log. So yeah, kind
of Cass. I think Sandy if you if you put
him up a little bit more so maybe from like
forty feet, I think Sandy could still give you something.
Did you do that move like Lizzo did throw out
(17:17):
the first pitch tonight back fourth and all? Yeah, oh yeah,
let's you let's say and do whatever he once. Yeah,
you'll let say you do whatever he wants to. But
I mean you got a yeah, sixty feet six inches
now at this point for Sandy in his eighties, but
forty feet away, I didn't get something from Sandy forty foot.
I bet you he's got a couple of strikes still
left in Heah, I'm sure he does. He really really
wanted to get after you go, man, I bet you
I can get more pitches out of Nolan Ryan than
(17:38):
I can't out of most of these guys that oh
yeah anymore. Yeah, he'll also put you in a headlock
and punch your face. Yeah right, Well he will always
respected Robin Ventura for finally standing up knowing he was
gonna get his ass kicked by a guy that does
cattle rustling in his off season. You know, I did?
Speaker 2 (17:52):
What?
Speaker 1 (17:53):
Was Nolan right? What do you always say like aspirn
was his only thing. Like he treated like, how does
he how did he hand into the bucket of rice? Yeah?
How do you not like get the I remember he
did advill commercials, But how do you not like have
a lifetime deal with some sort of aspen where this
guy's doing something we've never seen in one hundred years
in Major League Baseball. And all I do is take aspirin.
(18:13):
Whoa dude, take our aspirin? Man to do commercials for us?
Everybody people run to the store to buy our asper
I'm not gonna buy anything else from you guys, No one,
Ryan country Strong, That's all. It comes down to. Take
a couple of Advila whenever after the game is over,
and I'm good. Nothing else, A couple of a couple
of beers, and I'm good to go. Uh So, we'll
(18:36):
have more baseball on the way. We'll have Rick Buker
coming up in about a half hour to break down
the NBA Finals. We're headed to Game seven thanks to
the Pacers runaway win in Game six. How about Obi
topping you know what was popping Frostburg? Obi topping twenty
points tonight, six rebounds, He had four threes. He had
a couple of big threes early when the Thunder were
(18:58):
up by ten, and that was the end of the run.
Any resistance the Thunder We're gonna give and they packed
it up, getting ready for Sunday. You know a question
I would have asked Oklahoma City players and the coach
exactly when in the second quarter did you guys quit?
I'll tell you when Hartenstein got out rebounded by TJ
McConnell one on one for that ball under the That's
what I knew. Okay, they've absolutely quit. There they are done,
(19:21):
and we may as well just finish the game. Now,
go everybody, go home. Everybody going like the end of Farispueler.
Go home, Go home. It's go home, go home with you,
go home. It's done. When Hartenstein and McConnell are one
on one and no one's within like eight feet of
them and McConnell comes down with the rebound, you know
the Thunder. Look, we're getting ready for this. They got
Adam Silver sitting in one of those giant chairs like
Monty Burns head with his hands so good. They'll have
(19:43):
to watch, now, won't they look? And I told you
right this is where you know, hey boy, I don't
think we need stephen A. Smith playing solitary. Oh just
listen to Jason Smith. After Game two, I said, this
is how the series is going to go. It's not
going to be a series where either team is going
to be able to impart their will their opponent. And
we see the Thunder winning in five, the Pacers winning,
(20:05):
and say this is gonna go seven and the Pacers
will take Game three, the Thunder will win Game four,
and then it's gonna go home home home Thunder five,
Pacers six, Thunder seven. I said it after Game TWASID
a bunch of times, and that's exactly what's happened so far. Pacers,
Game three, Thunder, Game four, home, Game five for the Thunder,
home Game six for the Pacers. It'll be a home
(20:26):
win for the Thunder in game seven. Right, That's exactly
how this is going. You see how the teams are
adjusting from game to game. See how team I'm sure
the Thunder will show up much bigger for Game seven.
They say for Game six because they knew it's one
of those games where teams have in the NBA Playoffs
way too often now where they decide, hey, you know what,
(20:46):
we'll show up for the first quarter. Then if things
go our way, I'll stay. But if not, we're you know,
we're done. We're gonna pack it in and get ready
for game seven. It's like I'll go to the party
and I'll stay for an hour. But if I'm not,
I'm not staying this party till like one to I'm leaving.
If this party stinks, right, I'm not tough. Yeah, but
if I show up to the party, I'm gonna try
it for those two hours i'm there. Whether it's not sad,
(21:07):
it's not, that's not, say an hour. Maybe, let's even
if it's an hour, I'm sad. Somebody up. I'm trying
to find I'm trying to be the fire starter. Are
we playing Lahoma City? They did nothing. They gave me nothing.
They didn't try to pick anybody up. They didn't try
to stand on their head, do a keg stand. They
didn't go Frank the tank. They gave me nothing. Hey,
does anybody want to play beer Punk? No, we're all
gonna watch these two guys play Fortnite. Oh yeah, I'm
(21:29):
leaving this party. I'm leaving throwing bow's like Adrian Peterson,
I'm come on, play car is anybody playing? No, we're
just gonna watch these guys play video games. Okay, I'm
not not not going You've actually been to am a
party that does that. No, I'm just trying to think
of what would get me to leave a party that
I would go to be excited about. And if it's
watching people play video games, I would leave. Oh. I'd
(21:51):
have to vet that before I made any effort, especially
how house parties are gonna go. What are we gonna do?
Are we gonna wind up watching something on TV? We'd
be playing cards, We're gonna be playing I'm showing up
with a mini keg hap what happened? Well, well, Jimmy
challenged Johnny to a game of Fortnite. They were trashed,
so they're gonna play. We're gonna say, oh, we're gonna
(22:12):
Oh that's great, that's what I want to do. What
kind of snacks are there? All the piezas coming in
forty five? You know what? I can get pizza in
five minutes if I leave, So I'm gone, Damn, I word,
it'll be waiting for them to my house when I
get back. Uh. Meanwhile, you want a good story for
a team that hasn't had a good story in months
maybe and maybe in over a year. Well we got
(22:33):
one for you. Second night of Gold Cup for the
US m n T taking on Saudi Arabia. The winner
of this game moved on to the knockout round. Yes,
the United States clearly with a lot of questions about
their roster getting smoked the way they did in friendlies
leading up to the tournament. Uh, Lennon Donovan's criticism of
Christian Polistic and other players for not playing in the
(22:55):
Gold Cup. And now the US m n T is
an absolute tire fire. But we have some good news
because after tonight the team is headed to the knockout round.
Speaker 2 (23:05):
Burr Halter stands over the free kick til it runs away.
Speaker 1 (23:09):
Burholter hooking it in used the set piece. It's Chris Richards,
his second ever goal at the US finally breaks throwing
in Saudi Arabia. So there was on FF with a
call and uh and and maybe you know it's hey,
burr Halter is all right. Wait, we needed a burr
Halter to get sorted cut US going. We got a
(23:31):
not the same Burl, but we got a burn. Glad
we kept this one. Yeah, we kept the right one.
We kept the right burr halter. You know, he let
the right one go. We kept the right one done.
Went to the grocery store yesterday and there was a guy.
I kid you not. I'm in the fruit vegetable aisle.
I'm talking to the guy and you know, go to
the same time. You make friends. It's like, what's fresh,
what are you putting out? Whatever? And then a guy
(23:52):
walks by. He's wearing a Polissinger kit. My guy. He
starts giving up a little bit of grief. Here goes, hey,
I still believe man, and he grabs any any scurries
out of the alley. He goes, boy, he's been terrible.
And then he doesn't show up, and like like now
we're now we're bagging on this guy for his kid.
But it was a great bonding moment because because we
(24:14):
got to talk men's national team as we stood amongst
the avocados. Now here's the thing is, for the first
time in the line, this is a this is a
red letter day because there is good, really good news
for the US m menda And it's not just about
getting into the Gold Cup knockout round, which is of
course where we should be, because you know, yes, the
the competition is not terrible, right like Trinidad and Tobago
(24:36):
is not terrible. Uh, Saudi Arabia is not terrible. It
seems like they're teams we should beat. But you know,
five nothing the other night and one night and went
over and today the defensive stands. You got got lucky
on that one big drive when you flashed open and
and hit the cross. But I think I would have
asked for a review. I mean, we do it in
every other sport. Can I get a review with that
(24:56):
that that go underneath the bar?
Speaker 3 (24:58):
Uh?
Speaker 1 (24:58):
But you know, to see another day. But here's the
here's the good news, and it's not just look it
is good news. We're moving on in the Gold Cup.
But you know it's the second biggest tournament that we see, uh,
the USMNT play, besides the World Cup. But here's why
there's good news, because what have we talked about for
the last year plus? The US doesn't have an identity, right,
(25:21):
the usmn T do. What kind of program is it? Right?
The last time they had an identity was when okay,
it was Jurgen Klinsman's team, and he has become the
face of US soccer and very quickly when you disappoint Uh,
it's not too not too fast, not too far of
a jump from I'm the face of US soccer too.
You're now getting fired, were replacing you. And since then,
(25:41):
the United States has never had an identity. We had
up and coming players, and Christian Polistic was supposed to
be great, but he's been around a long time now
and now who knows what his commitment level is to
the to the US team, and it's controversy. It's a
really bad time. The USMNT needs an identity, and he
did something, and in the last few days they got
(26:03):
it because without a doubt, this is Mauricio Pochattino's team
after the right go. Right before, I think it was
the morning of the first game against Trinidad and Tobago,
he was asked about Polisic not playing and what it
was all about and why he didn't play, because Poliitic
had said, hey, I want to play a couple of
games leading up to I just don't want to play
in the Gold Cup. Oh yeah, these these four or
(26:23):
five games in the Gold Cup are going to really
just destroy you. And he said he wanted to play,
but I make the rules I'm not a mannequin, which
is a great I mean, what a great thing. Soccer
coaches say the best things man. And when he said,
you know, I make the I'm not a mannequin, that
was the biggest moment US Soccer had in a long
(26:44):
time because this was finally him saying, this is my program.
I'm not a mannequin. You don't call the shots. I
call the shots. And now maybe we're starting out at
a lower level because you don't know what the level
of players are. Who's gonna play, Who is gonna wind
up selecting. Maybe some guys who played in the past
aren't gonna be his favorites, so they might wind up
getting picked for the for the World Cup next year.
(27:05):
Right that that that's a thing. But without a doubt,
I know, right now this is his team and the
players he has picked on his team. Maybe he goes
heavy MLS, which would be an awesome thing, right that.
I think if you go in one direction, picking a
lot of MLS players would really uh dive up, drive
up a lot of the excitement, uh for a soccer
going into the World Cup. But him saying that I'm
(27:26):
not a mannequin, this is I call the shots. So
now this is his program, and now he has become
the face of the USMNT. Palistic is no longer the
face of it. He didn't play here. There's controversy is
he gonna be back. They haven't gone anywhere, he hasn't
led them to big places. He's not the face, and
we thought he was going to be, but he's not.
And now the coaches and I'm okay with that because
(27:46):
he's the one that's got to come up with the
right combination of players and team to be able to
make a little bit of noise in the World Cup.
And I'm not saying we gotta go. Hey, if we
got to get to the you know, into the knockout
round and then into the final four, but we got
to at least get to the knock It's gotta be
some kind of excitement somewhere where you think, Okay, we're progressing.
We have the right coach, we have the right base,
we have the right system, and the players are gonna
(28:08):
come over the course of the next few years. But
that's why this is such a big deal, because he
he's taken ownership of the program and now I feel okay, great,
at least there's that. Now we're starting really low because
you have no idea who he's gonna like and who
he's gonna pick, and some names you're gonna see maybe
not get selected. Boy, I can't believe you didn't pick
you know, I mean, is Polisic gonna be a guy
that gets picked? You'd like to think so. But as
(28:30):
long as we have that, okay, I feel like we're starting.
We're no longer backsliding, and we're starting, and the trust
is there for him and he's taking ownership of the team.
This has been the best, the best. Last couple of
days have been the best for the USMNT and in
years well, I just think I so long as you
and I have been doing the show together. The rhetoric
around the men's national team has been a lot of
(28:50):
lamentation about the developmental side of things, right, what the
organization does in fighting there of how to proceed, and
then certainly crowning the who's next, when there really hasn't
ever been a US right. There were good players at
times great players, but in terms of putting you know,
the US team to that next grand level, it hasn't happened.
(29:13):
We've been waiting on it for decades, so al toador
Polisic go on down the line. I like the idea of, hey,
we're not beholden to what press clippings are or what
some executives in a room think based on what market
marketability or whatever. It's like, what eleven are going to
go out there and give us our best chance to
actually win? And he knows he's the guy whose ass
(29:36):
is on the line if it doesn't work, because they
break neck fire coaches kind of like Cleveland and so
many before them.
Speaker 2 (29:44):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (29:44):
In the NFL and all in the NBA, you could
be the coach of the year and then be out
of a job the next year. For the men's national team,
it's the same thing. The expectations are grandiose, uh, and
then you under underperform and you're you're cycled out and
it's everything. It's your fall. There's never a hey, let's
go back into the systemic problems. It's the how do
we put a band aide band aid out of what
(30:05):
we just saw? So a couple of clean sheets here,
h and you move on into the next phase of things.
Whether those guys that and the names that you know
stay with the squad or not. No, you have to
pick a direction and he'll go down swinging on his
own accord, which you have to enjoy. I mean, really,
(30:26):
it's a win or lose now at least, Okay, I
know where we're going, I know who we are. I
know the guy that's gonna be that's gonna lead the team,
and I know he's the one that's gonna make the
call that it's not the players. Well, I still don't
know if they're any good, but no, move on. They
had too much The players had too much power for
a group that shouldn't do anything. No, but that's the thing, right,
is that doing it was all based on expectations and
(30:48):
this was the rating. And what I mean, you were
going to captain America. You took the shield away from
Sam and you put it on Polisic and what he said. Nope,
I don't think I will time out to find out
what's trending in the wide world of sports with someone
who's been called Mauricio Pochatino a Fox Sports Radio pasty
because she is not a manneq in either. It's Monty Belanga.
Speaker 4 (31:07):
Yeah, I'm nah, yeah, that's right, guy.
Speaker 1 (31:10):
Yeah, you don't even know what that means I've just
got you.
Speaker 4 (31:14):
But you said, oh, he's feel pretty good. So that
was impressive.
Speaker 3 (31:17):
But Game six of the NBA Finals was all Pacers,
you guys against the thunder. Even though Indiana missed their
first eight shots. After that it was literally all Indiana.
Speaker 4 (31:27):
One away to ninety one was the final score.
Speaker 3 (31:29):
Six players in double digits, Obi top and the lead
who score off the bench twenty points, Pascal Siakam a
double double, sixteen points, thirteen rebounds, Tyrese Haliburn only played
twenty three minutes, didn't really play a lot in the
second half.
Speaker 4 (31:41):
They didn't need to they were winning by so many.
At halftime, he had fourteen points, five assists.
Speaker 3 (31:45):
TJ McConnell made eight straight points to start the second
quarter for Indiana. Ended with twelve points, nine rebounds and
six assists. Here is Halliburn on TJ McConnell, Well.
Speaker 1 (31:55):
He's unbelievable. I don't even have the words. He was
a great white hoe, you know what's what we call him.
But he's just amazing. Continues to get that help of
pressure on the defense, and uh man, he is unlievable.
Speaker 4 (32:08):
He really was.
Speaker 3 (32:09):
Shake Gilges Alexander had twenty one points, but the Thunder
had twenty one turnovers compared to Indiana, who only had ten.
Jalen Williams ended with sixteen points. He also recorded the
lowest plus minus in finals game history, and he handed
minus forty. Jayle, So if they go to a game
seven and the Thunder win, does that mean he can't
(32:30):
win the MVP anymore? Because you know that was like
a discussion. Can you take the MVP from Shake Gil
just in the finals?
Speaker 2 (32:34):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (32:35):
Well I think look, anybody that has a big game
seven can do it, and do it.
Speaker 4 (32:38):
You will forget You're gonna forget the minus forty for you.
Speaker 1 (32:40):
Okay, okay, I forget that.
Speaker 3 (32:42):
So if you blinked like I did, I missed it.
But apparently James Johnson played two minutes and was ejected
for Indian are a game.
Speaker 1 (32:49):
Yeah, but what.
Speaker 4 (32:50):
That fell wasn't even that bad.
Speaker 3 (32:52):
So did he like complain to the ref after I
where did the double technical come from?
Speaker 4 (32:58):
And it just I looked at the plane. I was like,
how is he ejected?
Speaker 1 (33:01):
He said, You're wasting my time at the end of
a game. Shut up, it's a ball on and this
is the official say Okay, there's two minutes ago. We're
not gonna let this thing get chippy. You're gone, You're anyway.
Speaker 4 (33:10):
If you blinked, you missed it, you missed it.
Speaker 3 (33:13):
In the WNBA, the Valkyries have taken the lead from
the Fever. Sixty nine to sixty five is a score
with about five and a half minutes to go in
the game. Kitlin Clark has struggled oh five from the three.
She has seven points, eight assists, six rebounds, and again,
Fever are down three right now.
Speaker 4 (33:31):
Two games still going on in baseball, Padres have added.
Speaker 3 (33:34):
Another run, so they're on top of the Dodgers two zero,
bottom of the sixth inning about to start in LA,
and the A's are edging the Astros two to one.
They're also about to start the bottom of the sixth inning.
Speaker 4 (33:44):
Back to you, guys, thanks.
Speaker 1 (33:45):
A bunch of mons. Yes, Jason Smith Mike Harmon live
from the Fox Sports Radio Studios coming up next after
Game six. What is, without a doubt, the most overrated
storyline we've had in the NBA all week. You know
what it is, and we'll tell you why.
Speaker 2 (33:58):
Next Fox be sure to catch live editions of The
Jason Smith Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern,
seven pm Pacific, Fox.
Speaker 1 (34:09):
Sports Radio The Jason Smith Show with My best Friend
Mike Harmon, Apple Original Films and Warner Brothers Pictures. F
won the movie from the director of Top Gun, Maverick.
See It Mike and I got to see it a
couple of weeks ago, starring Brad Pitt. See it on
the biggest screen possible. You want to see it in
Imax June twenty seventh, rated PG. Thirteen. You will feel
(34:30):
like you are on the racetrack while the racing is
going on. A phenomenal, fun summer blockbuster. It is Top
Gun on wheels. We got Rick Buker coming up in
about ten minutes as we take a look back at
what we saw in Game six of the NBA Finals
preview Game seven. Is it a toss up? Will the
Thunder win? Yes? But as if you didn't know, tonight
(34:52):
was the biggest we saw, the biggest I would say
overrated storyline. The last couple of days in the NBA
Finals come to fruition. Uh, Tyre's Halliburton. How healthy is he?
Is he going to play? He's got the bad calf
and it's it's strained, he's got an MRI. Is he
(35:12):
gonna play? We don't know, game time decision. We told
you last night it was a load of huey, right.
He played thirty four minutes in Game five, had the
worst game you could possibly have in the NBA, fun
not scoring, you know, he had a horrible game. Now
I'm not saying he wasn't dinged up, because yes he
was a little bit. But still he played thirty four minutes.
And last night I said, you know, as time goes on,
(35:35):
he's gonna play and he's gonna be fine. And I really,
I really believe that that a lot of what we
had the last couple of days was simply spin put
out there by the Pacers so Tyre's Halliburton would stop
getting criticized the last couple of days because we know
that he listens to stuff like that, We know that
he pays attention to what is said about him. We
(35:56):
know that the Pacers have had this whole hey us
against the world mentality there higher playoff run, and it
makes sense that this is what the Pacers would do
to try to protect Haliburton, to give him an excuse
for why he didn't play. Well, because as soon as
the game ended, awful game for Haliburton, that's to be.
We talked about it that night, talked about the next
day right away. Oh, here's Shamstererania. Oh, he's got an
(36:18):
MRI for a train caf.
Speaker 2 (36:20):
Oh.
Speaker 1 (36:20):
If this was an injury in the regular season, he'd
be out for a week and a half. You don't
play like you played tonight if you were going to
be out for a week and a half. Just stop
with that, man. Understand that we got fed the storyline
that his injury was really overblown, just so he could
avoid criticism the last couple of days and be in
a great positive frame of mind going into game six.
(36:41):
Because that's the kind of player that he is. When
he's motivated, he's great. When he's not motivated, he has games,
he's sleepwalks, and he doesn't play very well. So the
Pacers wanted to make sure, Hey, how do we make
sure Halliburton's good to go? Hey, let's make sure we
got that out there. That boy he's really really hurt.
Dude is not playing. If he's that hurt, he's not
playing thirty some odd minutes he's not playing in the
game tonight as much as he did, and he looked
(37:03):
after the first couple of minutes, he looked absolutely fine.
And the Pacers rolled over the thunder who failed to
show up. But I mean, come on, man, don't sit
here and tell me all the Haliburn's time. We knew
he was gonna play, and it was just to protect
him because I know what people saying, I'm so bad. Oh,
I can't take that. I don't know what I try
to television the radio people say I'm really bad. All right,
we'll protect you. Will really blow this injury up, so
(37:24):
people will halt from saying really bad things about You'd say, well,
maybe the guy's hurt. Come on, man, yeah, no doubt.
At this point in the NBA season, a lot of
guys dealing with issues. They'll have to get cleaned up
in the offseason. And even to that point with Haliburton,
did he look one hundred percent? No? But who is right?
That is the overarching point. Thirty four minutes played passivity
(37:47):
what six field goal attempts for free throws made tonight
twenty three minutes took two or three minutes? Started to
move well, started to flow. You saw him diving out
of bounds. You have the no look pass that will
be the top of his highlight reel, along with the
choke signal against your beloved Nicks from last round are
the two things on the metal stand. But all of
(38:09):
a sudden, it's laughs and giggles when you're winning, right
the old joke of hey, you only saying when you're winning.
Here they got up big in the second quarter, the
lid went on the basket for the thunder.
Speaker 2 (38:21):
A lot of.
Speaker 1 (38:23):
Silly turnovers, non pressed turnovers, being careless with the basketball
shake gildess. Alexander had eight turnovers tonight. But remember we
were talking about Haliburton and what his prospects were for today.
What did I do? I went to the betting window
and I looked at all of the different odds that
were out there. Bet for the first quarter, what was
(38:44):
it three and a half points tona? He scored four?
Where did it turn positive? Right? Where was the even
money mark for his points for the game? It was
at fourteen? What did he score fourteen? So all betting
indicators where yeah, it would be just fine, but we
were fed the line today it would be a multi
(39:05):
week injury. Uhuh, just stop with that. It just stop
STI I was born a show man on it was
a shame. I mean really, I part me thinks how
much was this fed out there? Yeah, he's dealing with
this injury. It would be multi Really, you're not moving
and playing like that if it's multi week where they
trying to draw eyes away from the Dodgers, Padres and
the Valkyrie and Fever. Valkyrie actually with an eight point
(39:27):
lead in the final three minutes here over the Fever
or the Conky calf knock I mean the Conky caf knockout.
I mean that was some big heavy stuff there. Hey,
I don't know, man, Tyresee isn't feeling it. He's really
he's really upset that people say how bad he played
in game five.
Speaker 2 (39:41):
Don't worry.
Speaker 1 (39:41):
We're gonna put out this injury thing and really blow
it up. We're really gonna do something to people's Oh whoa,
whoa wait a minute. Maybe he's hurt. Oh maybe he's
really really so either he put on a Superman cape,
they tranquilizer yard and he was hurt. He's not injured,
which is a different thing that he's hurt. He's not injured,
and he's moving. He he moved really well to that
he was able to scream after all the big plays
(40:03):
he set up in all this big overtection amount of energy.
As we know, he was fine. Rick Bucker stops by
next all the latest on Game seven and what now
for the Lakers after they're sold Fox
