best Fox Sports Radio videos on YouTube. So here we
are coming off the fourth of July weekend, and uh
oh boy, not a great weekend if you're the Yankees
or the Dodgers, if you're the two most popular teams
in Major League Baseball.
Speaker 2 (00:49):
To which the Dodgers, who say, is the weekend over?
Speaker 3 (00:52):
Is it?
Speaker 2 (00:52):
It feels like Saturday and Friday? Yeah? And can we
have a day off? No?
Speaker 3 (00:56):
No, you play tomorrow? Oh great, okay, that's fantastic. The
Dodgers lose tonight to the Brewers. They needed a night
where hey, okay, we got Yoshinoba Yamamoto starting. He was
just named the All Star Team. Hey, great, he'll be
able to give us some length and we can rest
the bullpen. And Keikey Hernandez can't pitch. He's on the
injured list, so we can't come in and give you
(01:18):
mop up innings. Out, We've got a big night out
of Yamamoto, who makes it all of forty one pitches
before being taken out of the game, doesn't make it
out of the bottom of the first inning, and the
Brewers beat the Dodgers, who lose yet again, this time
not to the Astros, but nine to one to Milwaukee.
On the flip side, you have the Yankees who needed
(01:38):
a crazy play by Cody Bellinger and for the Mets
to have a couple innings where they realized, oh, we
don't know how to hit with runners in scoring position,
just to avoid being swept at the hands of the Mets,
and the Yankees now have fallen out of first place
in the Al East. The Blue Jays are red hot
and they haven't.
Speaker 2 (01:56):
Lost one again tonight, nine in a row.
Speaker 3 (01:58):
And now you have both team the two most high profile,
most popular teams in Major League Baseball, who just met
in the World Series a few months ago, and it's yeesh.
Speaker 2 (02:07):
Which one's in more trouble? The Dodgers are the Yankees temporarily?
Good news for the Yankees, who are off tonight. Well,
all their good news is temporary. For the Yankees. There's
item one of good news. They were off to they
didn't play. That's good, they did not lose. Number two
is they're going up against the Seattle team that often
doesn't hit, and that's who they're hosting the next three days.
But then it's the Cubs at Yankee Stadium over the weekend.
(02:29):
We've got one week of games left before All Star
Break and the New York Yankees they are missing. There
are holes plural in that roster and it has become obvious.
And it's not just the injuries. Although, my goodness, could
they use a Garrett Cole in the rotation and they could.
Speaker 3 (02:47):
Use Gary Cole in the rotation? Sallow, Peter, what's happening?
Speaker 2 (02:51):
I don't think so.
Speaker 3 (02:53):
Did you know we're trying to get batters out instead
of putting them on base?
Speaker 2 (02:57):
Okay? All right, bye bye, Peter. Uh. Gary Cole, he
was the boss in what was the movie? You are
mister movies? You see every face? Yes, that's what I'm doing.
I just did that was Gary. I was trying to
come up with the title for people to follow along.
There's no gratis at the bottom of this. Gary cole
from West Wing, What am I gonna do? Some people
probably thought you said, Gary Coleman, what you're talking about?
(03:18):
Will Let's say no, no, no. The Yankees are middle
of the pack in pitching, and the Dodger pitching has
been even worse this year. Earlier in the show, the
Dodger tm era is much worse than even the Chicago
White Sox this year. It's been a problem.
Speaker 3 (03:33):
Yeah, now, but here here's the thing. Are you looking
at both teams? Who look the Dodgers now lost four
in a row. The Dodgers are fine. Okay, the Dodgers
are fine. They ran into it. Not to make excuses,
but there's times where a team goes through a tough
stretch and there's times when a team is boy, it's
not gonna go like we thought it was gonna go.
This is a tough stretch for the Dodgers, right because
(03:54):
you can say, well, the Astros, boy, all the emotion
in this series, and the Astros are still hated. The
Astros have been the best team in baseball for the
better part of the past six weeks. In fact, this
is how great they have been. The Mariners are playing
near seven hundred baseball throughout June into the beginning of July,
near seven hundred baseball, and they've lost two and a
(04:16):
half games in the standings to the Astros. That's how
good the Astros have been in the last five six weeks.
You play near seven hundred ball, all right, we're taking
over first place. Now we've lost two and a half
games in the standings. That's how good the Astros have been.
Speaker 2 (04:32):
The Houston win loss record a month and a half
ago was twenty six and twenty five. They have gone
off like part in the Houston analogy, like a rocket,
like something from NASA. And even though as you say,
Seattle has a team and they have in recent years
actually been to the playoffs and broke that long stretch,
(04:52):
Houston is looking like the team that contended year after year.
And this is without Kyle Tucker.
Speaker 3 (04:57):
Now yeah, oh, this is what this is without Clemmens
and without it oh sure so.
Speaker 2 (05:01):
But the Dodgers look Cody Clements. They don't have Cody Cleves.
Cody Clements.
Speaker 3 (05:06):
They don't have Kellen Clemens either. So but the Dodgers, yes,
they have a lot of injuries going on, starting pitch wise,
which they always have every year. But they're good and
deep enough that they can withstand almost anything. We saw
it last year they won.
Speaker 2 (05:18):
The World Series and they ran out of pitchers.
Speaker 3 (05:20):
Every other game was a bullpen game for the Dodgers,
and they still won the World Series pretty easily. So
the Dodgers can withstand.
Speaker 2 (05:27):
With some Yankee help. And that gets me. Yeah, well
the Yankee well yeah, oh hey god, you cover first? Well,
what do you mean not cover first? I'm the pitcher.
I'm not going to cover first.
Speaker 3 (05:37):
This is this is a bad stretch. It's a it's
a it's a rough stretch. But this is one of those.
Hey when you hear the phrase every team goes through
stretch like, yes, they do, and this is one of
those for the Dodgers. But Tyler Glastos because Wednesday or Thursday,
he's a Wednesday day game. Wednesday him coming back is good. Look, Yamamoto,
he's an all star. He just had a bad game today.
It's not like Yamo got hurt and he got anyone
on the injured list this is just it's okay. The Dodgers,
(06:00):
there's still twenty games over five hundred their talent level
that this is why they build a deep team like this,
because you can withstand times like this. Yes, it's a
rough time right now, the Dodgers are going to be fine.
The Yankees completely different story, completely different. I was scared
of the Yankees the first couple of months because, boy,
it felt like they're not playing at the level that
(06:20):
we expect to play at and still have a four
game lead on all the teams, and these in the
East wasn't very good.
Speaker 2 (06:26):
At that time. No one was really winning.
Speaker 3 (06:27):
But boy, I was kind of scared at the point
the Yankees are run, not become the Yankees yet. Look
what they're doing when Aaron Judge is basically carrying them.
But now now you're getting a point where we're getting
close to the All Star breaking, you realize, oh wait,
the Yankees kind of overachieved the first couple months of
the year, and now they're really missing not having Garrett Cole. Right,
(06:49):
Max Freed is having a great year, he's an All Star,
but hey, Garrett Cole being that second guy, that second
stopper to have in the rotation. That's a big thing,
and they're missing him right now. And all of a sudden,
the Yankee all Yankee fans who were so, oh, we
don't need soda. Look at the money we spent. All
these other guys they're all great. Now they're not great.
Devid Williams had his issues, Cody Bellinger's been okay, right,
(07:11):
the guys you spent money on. It's not like everybody's
been fantastic. Guess some moves have worked out, some moves
have it. The Yankees aren't a bad team. They're just
a good team. And you know what, there's lots of
good teams in the American League. The Blue Jays are
a good team, right, The Rays, the Red Sox they're
in they're one of dress. Detroit, well, Detroit's a fantastic team.
(07:32):
Everybody's looking up and we're gonna say, hey boy, the
Tigers are gonna waltz of the World Series. Right and now,
the Astros are really good. But then the level below them,
you have a bunch of teams that are that are
that are good, that are pretty good, that are playoff
caliber teams. That's where the Yankees are, right. The Yankees
are it hey, we're better than everybody. We're at the
top of the American League. No, they're definitely in that
second tier of teams. Dodgers are at the top of
(07:53):
the first tier of teams. Now, could we see other
teams rising up a little bit, playing better as the
season goes on and getting close to the Dodgers. Yeah,
you could see that. Whether it's the Padres or the Cubs,
or the Phillies or the Mets, whoever it is, you
can see that happening. But for the Yankees, yeah, they're
just in that group of four or five teams that
are that are that are good. I wouldn't be surprised
by the time we get to the All Star Break,
(08:13):
which is coming up in a week or so, maybe
the Yankees even fall out a wildcard position, because they're
only two and a half games up in the wildcard
now and they've they're now looking that every other team
in the American League East. I mean, not the Orioles,
because you know the Orioles.
Speaker 2 (08:26):
Boy, that's that's that's another thing.
Speaker 3 (08:28):
That's that's a tough thing to see for them. But
you're looking at, hey, we're only a game or two
up on the on the Rays and only a couple
of games up on the Red Sox, and whoa, what
is happening to us? They're in that mix of those
teams with the Royals and the and and and the
and the and the Mariners and as Texas if they
can get things going again, Like okay, this is kind
of where the Yankees are. Like, the Yankees are a
(08:50):
team I could say they're in danger of make of
missing the playoffs, whereas the Dodgers. Maybe the biggest thing
is maybe they don't finish with the best record in
the National League, which if that's what it is, okay,
you'll take everything else from that. The Yankee the Dodgers, hey,
maybe we finished with the second best record. The Yankees
are maybe we don't make the playoffs. Yankees are in way.
Speaker 2 (09:08):
More trouble than Dogs. That's not hyperbole. They might miss
the playoffs because the same thing applies to the Padres,
who I think we all assume with that roster is
probably a playoff team, and yet the way the Giants
have stayed in it, the Giants could take the last
wildcard in the NL. What you were mentioning with the
AL wildcard race is we're past the mathematical halfway point
(09:29):
of the MLB season at the moment, with three wildcard spots,
there's realistically four teams going for the three spots. One
of those four teams is now the Boston Red Sox,
who've won four in a row. They're gonna get Bregman back.
They're certainly over the five hundred mark now, and those
four teams there's a difference of only three games. And
(09:50):
the New York Yankees certainly have pop. You know, they
have the Bronx Bombers history, and there are lots of
years where the roster, especially with that stadium, it's not
just Judge popping them out of the park. Trent Grisham
can certainly give you some pop and has this year,
but he usually bats under two fifty. Jazz Chisholm. People
like the style, and he can hit some out, but
(10:11):
he's hitting under two fifty. Hey, we found Ben Rice
and he can DH some and he's hitting two thirty,
so you're getting some home runs there. Austin Wells, Hey,
we had a catcher leading off and hitting it. Yeah, well,
he's even worse than the batting average. And we talked
about Anthony Volpe to say the least is not Derek
Jeter hitting two twenty.
Speaker 3 (10:30):
Yeah, but his dad will kick your ass. Anthony Volpi's
dad will kick your ass in the stands.
Speaker 2 (10:34):
It's what about going up against the Halliburt and dad
or we can have a grudge match with the two.
Speaker 3 (10:39):
I'm telling you man, Sports Dads is the next great
if The Real Housewives is a great show and you
can get but you can get Sports Dads to be
a show.
Speaker 2 (10:48):
How about in the ring, Like we used to have
the washed up celebrities boxing each other in the ring.
Speaker 3 (10:54):
Well, I don't know if i'd want to watch them fight.
I would kind of want to watch them argue with
each other and then maybe like like like like pretend
to fight or just kind of slap fight a little
bit and get you know, and that to be like,
oh okay, let's let's back you up.
Speaker 2 (11:06):
Like but I would want to see something like that. Well,
anybody will pretend to fight if it'll get views. Oh
that's true.
Speaker 3 (11:11):
Yeah, yeah, I thought the quarterback fakes, don't we pretends
that it goes.
Speaker 2 (11:15):
But Volpe's defense and the offense, I mean, I'm sorry,
you were heralded and you're a local and all of that,
but that doesn't guarantee you this position on the New
York Yankees for the next ten to fifteen years.
Speaker 3 (11:26):
Ask Clay bar Torres, by the way, Yeah, I mean, look,
the Yankees have to get past that. This is this
is a big thing. The Yankees think, well, the Dodgers.
Everybody that comes up for the Dodgers hits three point fifty.
It is great, and it's you know, I've said this
for a long time. I don't know how this happens,
but James Adam did eventually disprove that. Yes, but now
he's back up right now, that's yes. But the Yankees,
it's like they think everybody coming up is that good,
(11:49):
Like they think every young player that hits the major leagues,
oh my goodness.
Speaker 2 (11:54):
The Yankees.
Speaker 3 (11:54):
Yeah, and I get that the the image of the
Yankee farm system because it's always been regarded as good.
Speaker 2 (12:00):
For so long.
Speaker 3 (12:01):
Hey, the Yankees trade guys away and not long ago
become stars, and not Everbeak shows up in the Yankee
stadium and becomes the next great Yankee player.
Speaker 2 (12:08):
They're still dining out on the great nineties.
Speaker 3 (12:10):
Teams where hey, we brought up Jeter, we brought up
rivera we brought up Attett, we brought up Bernie Williams
up and now we're weet own series, Scott.
Speaker 2 (12:17):
Brocious and win multiple titles.
Speaker 3 (12:19):
Yeah, Gary Sanchez, he's going to be great, and your
Labor Tours is going to be great.
Speaker 2 (12:22):
And all these guys, they need Marcus Stroman to be great.
That's what they where they are with this starting staff
because a guy who was starting to be great, Clark Schmidt,
just got hurt and is out for the year. And
we mentioned the Garrett Cole injury as well, and the
injury there was an injury at the beginning of the season,
and what happened to Luke Weaver as a dominant reliever
something they found late last year that's gone out the
door for the moment. So you have Max Freed being
(12:45):
the All Star he is and Carlos Rodin with plenty
of good starts, not all of them, but not this weekend. Yeah,
they're they're missing in the starting rotation as la is.
Speaker 3 (12:56):
Yeah, and I look and all the young players that
just because you keep telling me they're gonna be a star,
they're the next cheet or the next doesn't mean it's
gonna happen. And it hasn't and they overvalue their young
players for a long time, and they've driven to the middle.
And that's the big thing about the Yankees is that
they used to be a team that made the big,
bold trades mid season and got out. They're still aggressive
(13:16):
in the offseason now they going out and get players.
And that's great because they've come back to that where
they took a few years off from it. But they
used to be that team in the middle of hey, okay,
we're gonna get the guy we need to go win.
Every year is a World Series or bust year for us.
We go make the decision to go get a big player,
we trade a prospect, and they've kind of gone away
from that, you know. And this is why when I
look at the Yankees, I go there's no real immediate
(13:37):
fix for them, even if they get some guys coming
back to health. They're a good team. Unfortunately, there's four
or five other teams that are just as good that
are playing better baseball now. And just to look in
the rear view mirror and see the Red Sox right there,
it's like, well, they.
Speaker 2 (13:53):
Were punting on their season.
Speaker 3 (13:54):
They traded their best player, they waved the white flag
months ago and out, hey we are we.
Speaker 2 (13:59):
Got four in a row right back in it. And
you can't overstate what a sensational week that Toronto Blue
Jays had, not only getting to first but getting some
space in the division.
Speaker 3 (14:08):
And who they play for most of those guys forget and.
Speaker 2 (14:12):
George Springer has had a rebirth, and the catchers in
Ullster in the first basement's at Ulster, and they found
a closer.
Speaker 3 (14:18):
Way more Yankees, way more trouble than the Dodgers exit
out about a frescot Jason Smith, Steve desag'er in for
Mike Carmon.
Speaker 2 (14:25):
Coming up next, a.

have done it. So we're in the middle of US
Summer League. All of a sudden, Hey, wait a minute,
Summer League is getting top head of Summer League, getting
(16:48):
top headlines, or because Summer League is going.
Speaker 2 (16:50):
To get us into the trading season in the NBA.
It's where after we had to go from the Las
Vegas Summer League starts Thursday. But yes, absolutely Wall to
wall games in Salt Lake City and San Francisco that
started a couple of days ago.
Speaker 3 (17:02):
Eventually it's going to be Summer League is going to
be in every city. We're gonna get it every all thrive.
It's gonna Summer League in every City. Do you remember
when it used to be Long Beach Summer League? Oh yeah,
oh yeah, yeah did the what was the uh where
do they play all the games at the pyramid?
Speaker 2 (17:15):
At the Pyramid? Yeah? Yeah, I said, now now it's
going to be a big deal. Now, bigger deal. I
remember Kurt Rambus coaching the Lakers summer League team as
every cool wow when he coached the Lakers with star
guard Mike Pemberthy, who then became like Lakers eleventh man
legend Mike pember By the way, I got to mention.
In a summer league game tonight in Salt Lake City,
(17:36):
Utah won by a point over Memphis because the grizzly
Gigi Jackson, who had twenty seven points, he made a
shot at the buzzer, but his toe was on the
line a Lah Kevin Durant, and so they ruled it
a two and they lose one twelve, one eleven. Again
he had twenty seven points and Jalen Wells had twenty three.
(17:56):
They were good again for Utah. Ace Bailey teen points tonight,
Bryce Sensi Ball with thirty seven.
Speaker 3 (18:03):
Wow, he's still with the Jazz a spall. You'd have
thought maybe a couple of games in a couple hold games.
I'm gonna go on.
Speaker 2 (18:10):
Sunday in the Bay Area. The Lakers beat the Heat
by twenty and Bronnie James started got about ten minutes
and ten points. But it was a very bad weekend
for the former first rounder Dalton connect who disappeared from
the Lasker rotation at one point last season. Over the
weekend on three pointers, he was of nine.
Speaker 3 (18:28):
But it was about Brownie who gave you the highlight
of the weekend with this doing.
Speaker 2 (18:34):
Their coaching staff.
Speaker 1 (18:36):
But yeah, as speaking up, here's Bronnie James with the
stale in the slam.
Speaker 2 (18:42):
That's great.
Speaker 1 (18:44):
He's watching somewhere he's fired up.
Speaker 2 (18:47):
Oh there it is the Browny Slamm. It suddenly is.
It's the greatest thing ever Somewhere Cleveland, I believe. Yeah,
every off season I'll tell you exactly it was. He
was in Cleveland at the Cavaliers practice facility. We'll get
to that again on the show. We have to why
that's a really big deal.
Speaker 3 (19:02):
But here's the thing with with Bride right and all
the trade rumors about Lebron and Bronny had to talk
about it a lot over.
Speaker 2 (19:09):
The course of the past couple of weeks, he's getting
ready to trying to get his career going.
Speaker 3 (19:13):
Honestly, now, the best thing for Bronnie James would be
if Lebron James played on a different team. The best
thing for his basketball development would be for him to
be on a different team other than Lebron. Right now,
I get what they did. I get Lebron getting in
and them playing together last year for a few times
(19:33):
on the Lakers special, right, we absolutely special?
Speaker 2 (19:37):
But now Brown's player. Okay, been in the league.
Speaker 3 (19:39):
A year and I got a contract that you know,
the year, very fortuitous contract.
Speaker 2 (19:45):
That likes me to be paid this way. And as
a union member, he technically was there for a year.
Okay with that contract.
Speaker 3 (19:50):
Okay, sure, but for your basketball career, he needs to
be able to show I can stand on my own, right,
I got to carve my own path. And him playing
with Lebron, it's gonna be another year of if Lebron
stays with the Lakers, it's gonna be another year should
Bronny be playing? Should these minutes be going to somebody else?
(20:11):
Why is this happening? Why is Bronny playing all these
minutes here like and all because of Lebron's proximity being Hey,
this is the team together right there. On the team together,
there's a lot of there's still animosity towards they shouldn't
be happening. Lebron shouldn't have been able to make the
Lakers draft Bronnie James this year. Stead should not have
gone on. And look, they had an amazing experience last year.
(20:35):
We've never seen that before Lebron got him there. If
Lebron leaves, I can see the Lakers keeping Bron'm not
gonna tell her, just say okay, Bronni, you're out the door.
I can see them keeping Bronni because he is a
guy that potentially could be a three and D guy. Right,
there's not gonna be any animosity because Lebron's gonna want
La for his post NBA life.
Speaker 2 (20:56):
Right.
Speaker 3 (20:56):
He came out here he wanted to be to be
a Laker because he wanted the Lakers brand while he
set things in motion for whatever he winds up doing
post NBA career. Right, he wanted the big city of
LA and he's here. Could have picked New York, but
in La Hollywood, the production company that he's got, this
is what he wants so he chose the Lakers for that,
so we got everything he needs. He also knows I
(21:18):
need LA for my brand. He doesn't want to walk
around and be hated in the city that he played
and doesn't want that. Even though when you're done playing,
you're done playing. So whatever trade that happens, right, whatever
move that happens, when he eventually wants up not playing
for the Lakers, it will be very amicable, or at
least on the surface and publicly, it will be very amicable.
(21:38):
And it's not gonna be to the extent where the
Lakers are going to say, Okay, well we got rid
of one James, now we're getting rid of Bronny. No,
they'll give Bronnie a chance, but he's got to show
that I can stand on my own, I can play
and I can earn minutes on a team that doesn't
have lebron James, because there'd be no reason for the
Lakers to push him out there if they didn't feel
he could he could contribute. And by the same time,
(22:00):
at the same time, if it's viewed that he can't
help them, then he would go someplace else, would try
to stand on his own. He's got tape he's been
in the league, he's made plays, he's had some time
that might be a bad thing. He's gonna tell you
he needs to be able to stand on his own.
So if the it wouldn't be the worst thing and
probably be the best thing for his career. If now, okay,
(22:21):
I'm in the league. Lebron did what he could. I
got you as far as I could. Now, you gotta you,
gotta you gotta secret swim on your own and did
everything I could. I got you the league, I got
you the Lakers, I got you, or the story of
the draft last year, one of the big stories of
the NBA this year. You've proven that you can play
at at a at a certain level, you can play
in the NBA. You've had some big moments. Right, you
got a contract that pays you unlike other second rounders. Hey,
(22:43):
I got you as far as I could. But another
year of the two of them playing together, it's just
he's gonna keep spinning his wheels. He's if Lebron is
not here, that would be the best thing for for
Browny's development. Say okay, now I can carve out my
own ruler. And if he winds up getting minute Okay,
well they're not doing it just for Lebron because he's
not on the team anymore. Hey, maybe he's earning his
(23:05):
minutes a little bit more. And no matter what, you
have to at least show that I'm in the league
and I'm in this league because I can do things,
and it's not just because of who my dad is.
So the quicker and faster he gets to that point
where I can stand on my own, the better it's
going to be for him.
Speaker 2 (23:21):
Yeah, and I don't mean to bash Brownie James in
the least. I would probably say similar things about other
late second round draft choices if I knew their name.
It's okay.
Speaker 3 (23:31):
JJ Redick will just blame me because he hates me,
So it's fine. We know that's been proven. Yes, we
know that's not a clip to prove it.
Speaker 2 (23:36):
It's just when you see him play, and I watched
his last game yesterday, for example, it gives you the
impression that two guard must be the least demanding position
on the court because in the offensive set, and I
saw this last year, he winds up standing around a lot.
He doesn't have the height that you would want out
(23:57):
of a guard. He doesn't have the ball skills that
you would want to play point. I haven't seen the
consistent defense. He certainly isn't a player in the paint.
He's not a corner three guy. Usually somebody can establish
an NBA career doing one of those things, being a specialist.
For years, we have seen guys that are really good
(24:17):
at three pointers and that's pretty much all they're known for,
and that gets them jobs for literally seven to ten
years of an NBA career. I just would like him
to impress me with something and the clip that you
played with a fast break steal in a fast break, Okay,
he's not unique in that regard. Congratulations, we need more
(24:38):
of that. I don't see.
Speaker 3 (24:40):
The thing is, I don't think he's going to become
a player that does one thing and says, Okay, you're
in because you can do this.
Speaker 2 (24:47):
If he if he swims in the NBA.
Speaker 3 (24:51):
If if he swims, it's going to be as a
rotation player, maybe the eighth or ninth player that comes
in and plays a handful of minutes. He can help
you a little bit offensively, help you a little bit
more maybe defensively, and he's part of that second unit
that is not going to cost you points to come in,
(25:11):
can maybe be part of the unit that actually increases
a lead, right, Like I look at teams like the
Warriors when they first started their dynasty, when their second
unit would come in, they would expand the lead by
a couple of points instead of well, now the time
with Stephan Clay sitting, you're gonna try to get back
into this one against the Warriors, and instead because of
Livingston and Inguadala being the more focal point of the offense. Hey,
(25:32):
you know, they went to the bench with a twelve
point lead. Now it's a fourteen point lead, right. That's
kind of Brownie's. The best outcome from his is he's
one of those players, a rotation player, an eight or
ninth player coming off the bench to play a handful
of minutes to the end of quarters or times of
guys are in foul trouble, and the end result is
he plays and pretty as good enough chemistry with the
(25:53):
other second unit players that hey, would we keep when
these four guys play together. When these three guys play together,
our team can and can at least stick with where
where we're at, if not maybe improve our standing in
the game a little bit. Maybe we get a couple
more points, we cut into a lead, or we expand
our lead by a couple points. But that's really Brownie's future.
It's I don't think it's more one thing. It's gonna
(26:15):
be Defensively, He's gonna show you as he continues to
grow that maybe he can be a pretty good defender.
But just hit a couple, Just hit a three now
and again, right, make a couple of athletic plays now
and again, and be someone that affects the box score
a little bit across like That's that and Bronnie's IQ
obviously is really good. So I mean, if if he's
that kind of player where across the board he just
(26:35):
does a little bit in each category, that's what I
think more of his future.
Speaker 2 (26:39):
What's bad is that, you know, he's got nothing. He
can't do anything about this. He's six to two. He's
a six to two non point guard. Yeah, and you
know last year, granted it's a rookie season, but I
looked it up. On two pointers two pointers, he was
twelve of thirty five shooting, and on threes he was
nine of thirty two. There's nothing that screams I need
(26:59):
this guy to be in my rotation. If you're six
two and not a ball handler and not hitting threes
from the corner and certainly not anything in the pain.
You know, I'm gonna say, it's gonna be easy, but
you got you gotta at least show that.
Speaker 3 (27:11):
Okay, now I can I can show you that I
can do that, And the pressure would be would be
just a basketball pressure on.
Speaker 2 (27:18):
It wouldn't be asking answering questions about his dad.
Speaker 3 (27:20):
Worried that that the nepotism thing would come up, like eventually,
And that's the thing, like when when I was when
I was coaching Zoe in the entire time, like when
I when I when she first started playing soccer, and.
Speaker 2 (27:31):
None of those questions came up. High coach, it's good,
don't don't come up.
Speaker 3 (27:35):
That's why the other job, Like I knew in soccer
when we played, I said, listen, I I will coach.
I can coach you to a certain point, and then
you need to go for another coach, because another coach,
as you get older, is gonna be better for you
because they're going there, they're going to be able to
get you. They've been they've been coaching at that level
at a high school type level.
Speaker 2 (27:56):
I'm glad a father actually thinks of that. So you're saying,
finally when she gets to the Cleveland Browns, but.
Speaker 3 (28:01):
She gets to the brown said, somebody's got it's not
gonna be okay, Shad or just so you know, but
and I said, softball, I get have you a little
bit longer. But then eventually, yes, you're gonna have to
go to another coach. You're gonna have to go and
and not so much stand on your own, but just
get to a point where you're you're getting different you're
getting different coaching, different teachings, you're you you're hearing different things,
(28:22):
and you're becoming a more complete player. And that's kind
of where it went. And and it was and it
was really good, and we were happy that we had
a really good relationship playing. It wasn't where like, oh
my god, the coach is always yelling at his kid,
but it also wasn't all coach is giving his kid
everything to do. Like everything you know, she was able
to do, she earned. She loved playing, and it was
It's one of the most special memories I have. But
I always knew, I said, at some point, you have
(28:44):
to be on your own with with y'all. I'll get
you as for you know what, I'll try to show
you the way as a coach, I show all the
like I show all the girls. Hey, I'll get this.
This is this is how the lessons I want to
tell you. And then you have to go play for
somebody else.
Speaker 2 (28:58):
But unfortunately you opted into your fifty two million dollar
contract to stand around. So I'm opting, by the way,
as far as nepotism, people did when the Brownny should
even be on the Lakers, conversation was happening. Bring up
Ken Griffy Senior played with Ken Junior with the Maritters
and the King. Griffy Senior not only had been a
(29:18):
World Series champion, he still hit three hundred for the Mariners.
He deserved to be on the team.
Speaker 1 (29:26):
I know.
Speaker 3 (29:26):
By the way, Ken Griffy Junior was one of the
most heralded players in all of Major League Baseball coming
into the league.
Speaker 2 (29:32):
It's not number one overall. Here's Bronny coming in.
Speaker 3 (29:35):
The second round. This is hey, this is griff coming
in as the number one pick in the draft.
Speaker 2 (29:39):
Not the same.
Speaker 3 (29:39):
Yeah, no, so there is an avenue form. But I
mean to understand that and that might be a reason.
You know, we talk about Lebron being traded, which we'll
get into more next hour, because there were signs this
weekend that that absolutely can happen. Is that maybe that's
part Hey, if I play someplace else, that's going to
be better for Bronny to get out from under my shadow,
to worry about basketball, to show that I can stand
(30:00):
on my own. Like all of those are good things.
And as a dad, like you want that for your
you want that for your.
Speaker 2 (30:05):
Kid developmentally, there's no reason he should have been in
the NBA last year. Well there's one, and that's dad
wanted it because he barely played in college and it's
obvious he needs more time. He needed more time playing
college basketball. Yeah, that not everybody. He doesn't need the money,
you know, getting a pro contract normally and say, oh okay,
if you if someone's gonna pay you for a minute.
Speaker 3 (30:27):
But that's more that's more common now where. Look, everybody
could use more college basketball. But I got to get
the league. If I stay three years, that means I suck.
If I'm really really good.
Speaker 2 (30:38):
The other guy's dads aren't a billionaire at a future
NBA owner. He didn't need to come into the league.
There's only one reason he did, and so Dad got
his kicks. Congratulations, exit out about a Fresca Jason Smith
Steve the Sager live from the Fox Sports Radio studio.
Speaker 3 (30:54):
So yeah, best thing for Brownie if he's him and
Lebron on different teams, that might be the best thing.
Speaking of the best thing, best thing for the Dodgers
is well, the game is over. Steve Desager has more
in the Big Night in Major League Baseball with what's trending.
Speaker 2 (31:07):
We had the Dodgers lose again, but Cleveland actually won.
While we're talking hoops, a reminder that not only did
I mention, we've got the Utah Summer League going on
that ends Tuesday. So if I don't know if you
were starting to get into it or say hearing about
that thrilling finished today, Oh I got it? No, Tuesday,
it ends, and the San Francisco Summer League ends on Tuesday,
(31:30):
and then the NBA's Las Vegas Summer League.
Speaker 3 (31:33):
I just ordered by San Francisco Summer League t shirt.
You mean it's going to be over before I get
it though.
Speaker 2 (31:38):

then an All Star of the season. After that, the
Clippers traded Norman Powell to the Heat. He averaged twenty
(32:23):
two points a game last season. John Collins goes to
the Clippers. He averaged nineteen points eight rebounds per contest,
and that was a three team deal. Utah's involved The
Utah Jazz get Kevin Love, Kyle Anderson and a second rounder.
Powell and Collins are dealt because they're entering the final
year of their contracts. The Pacers confirmed that Tyres Halliburton
will miss all of next season with his ruptured achilles.
(32:45):
He was injured in Game seven of the finals. The
Knicks official hired Mike Brown as head coach. A two
time NBA Coach of the Year, Tom Thibodeau was fired

The seventy six Yers resigned guard Kyle Lowry. It'll be

Next two BIG nba stories from today. Intertwined there'll be
a lot of trades this offseason in the, end But

gonna stand Pat that's next right, Here jason Is Dave.
Speaker 1 (35:07):

Speaker 1 (35:31):
AND.
Speaker 2 (35:31):
U two stories intertwined out of THE nba.
Speaker 3 (35:35):
Today now that deals and signings and everything can become
official were reported last week and now things have become.
Official we also were getting official news that came out.
Today two stories that have a lot to do with one,
another believe it or. Not The knicks officially announced the
hiring Of Mike.
Speaker 2 (35:53):
Brown that is, official but has been the next. Belief
seven teams involved to make it work.
Speaker 3 (35:58):
Something, yes they had The ACTUALLY i had to get
permission from everybody involved In Mike brown's life to uh interview,
them and they all said.
Speaker 2 (36:06):
Yes all his. Relatives as you, know is The sacramento
get a third round? Picks they? Do they.
Speaker 3 (36:12):
Do So Mike brown introduced as the knixt new head
coach championship pedigree That Mike brown has and made sure
to say that assistant Coach championship, degree but.
Speaker 2 (36:22):
Make sure AND i, LIKE i Like.
Speaker 3 (36:24):
Mike warriors and The pacers made it official today That
Tyres halliburton will miss all of next season after the
achilles injury Suffering game seven of THE Nba. Finals these
stories are intertwined because there's gonna be a lot of
trades this offseason in THE. Nba, now we've talked about
(36:46):
this over the course of the last. Week it's no
longer where teams hit the beginning of free, agency and
big trades are made and then, okay we got our star.
Players now we have to figure out our roster around.
You that doesn't always. Work star players want to see
how teams are put, together and then they give the
okay or yes or.
Speaker 2 (37:04):
No, Okay now now let's make a trade.
Speaker 3 (37:06):
Happen teams are gonna, Say, okay now we can make
a trade happen because now we see the assets that we,
Have we see what teams we have to call and
involved to make to make a deal. Happen so you're
gonna see more trades as to. Now now is in
this new era of THE nba where free agency's gonna, Go,
hey we're all.
Speaker 2 (37:22):
Good we go through the first, era first wave of free.
Agency instead Of july, first.
Speaker 3 (37:26):
Sure july, firs now gonna be more the middle to
the end Of july where you see the trades.
Speaker 2 (37:30):
Happen.
Speaker 3 (37:31):
Uh, so there's gonna be a lot of trades in THE.
Nba But i'll tell, YOU i used to.
Speaker 2 (37:35):
Think they were gonna do.
Speaker 3 (37:36):
It, now after what's gone on the last the last
couple of, WEEKS i see this today and they're intertwined
The knicks are not gonna do anything. Big they're not
Gonna they're going to sit back and they're gonna play
the safe, road which is The pacers have No, halliburton
The celtics have No Jason, tatum and they're breaking up
that team as it, is Or Drew holliday has, Gone
(37:57):
chris tops porzingis is. Gone we are the favorites in
The the minute they Hired Mike, brown they became the
favorites in The Eastern. Conference And i'm not SAYING i
Mean vegas has them as the favorites in The east right.
Now If cleveland winds up doing, something which we'll get, to,
uh but The knicks are now the. Favorites if everything
(38:19):
was equal and The pacers were coming off IN Nba
finals And halliburton's, healthy or The celtics with a Healthy Jason,
tatum The knicks would, say we need. More we didn't
have enough to get past The. Pacers we didn't have
enough to do. That you, know The celtics are still
a real. Threat the title window for them is. Open
we got to do something big and go out and
move on From Karl Anthony towns because, defensively he And
(38:40):
Jalen brunton on the court the same, time don't really.
Work but maybe It's Karl Anthony towns and another player
For giannis or something. Else but now The knicks are, Saying.
Speaker 2 (38:48):
Okay we don't need to do.
Speaker 3 (38:50):
That if we need to do, something we can do
it at the deadline In. February we don't need to do.
That now we can come into this season knowing full
well we are the. FAVORITES Ab Mike brown's gonna come
in and work some. Magic clearly is, defensively he's gonna
make them better, offensively the system that he has is
gonna work.
Speaker 2 (39:07):
With what the personality he needs to do is be
a coach that plays more than five. Players yeah, no
don't worry it wins.
Speaker 3 (39:12):
Games you Can if you play more than five guys
and don't, win people.
Speaker 2 (39:16):
Are gonna, say just play the five. Guys what are
we doing? Right clearly they don't run out of gas
because they are all.
Speaker 3 (39:21):
Right but The knicks are gonna see this as, okay
and a team that can really make a lot of
things happen because they have a lot of high, profile
high priced players with, salary they could make stuff. Happen
this is gonna be the team that sits things out
because they're gonna think all the other. Teams The pacers
aren't gonna go for it because they they're gonna try. To,
okay they've already Lost Miles Turner halliburn's and we're not
(39:43):
gonna go try to replace him and try to keep this.
Way we'll wait Till halliburton comes. Back The celtics are
really restarting for the season a year from. Now we're
gonna sit back and just play it out and hope
That Mike brown coming in and these couple of small
changes that we have for depth is gonna be. Enough
The knicks will sit out the big trade.
Speaker 2 (40:01):
Season the good point you made is about The Eastern
conference as a whole and how it's going to look like,
already how different it looks compared to last, season because
already The west, was shall we, say more top. Heavy
you could make the case that the eight playoff teams
from The west were all about six hundred winning percentage
instead of some people maybe well under five hundred having
(40:22):
a chance to sniff the playoffs in The east aside From,
Orlando and that was one of the news items. Today
Paula benkaro officially gets the max. Extension they've got four
different guys with multi year. Contracts they have a.
Speaker 3 (40:34):
Core i've told, you, man look out For, orlando look
out For.
Speaker 2 (40:39):
Orlando they're gonna be a top three team in The
east next. Year but while they're going, up there's officially
No halliburton at all all next year For. Indiana and
they've Lost. Turner, right and you talked about The celtics. Injuries,
Okay the good thing About CLEVELAND i always thought was
just the passage of time because they have a. TEAM
i just did try ust them in the playoffs last
(41:01):
year because they were, new because they were. Young nothing
against their.
Speaker 3 (41:04):
Talent, now speaking of The, cavaliers could they make the move.
Speaker 2 (41:09):
Of the off.
Speaker 3 (41:10):
Season we have never been closer to A Lebron james
trade than.
Speaker 2 (41:16):
We are right.
Speaker 3 (41:18):
Now shaboozie would agree any bar you have this. Conversation
we have never been closer to A lebron.
Speaker 2 (41:24):
Trade
