Speaker 3 (01:40):
We get off the air.
Speaker 1 (01:41):
So we have a very weird NFL topic coming up
in twenty minutes. And when when I first heard this
and I said, okay, we have to we have to
break this down on the show. There's a very specific
person that that is going to say something about the
NFL that I'm really I was really surprised that. So
we're gonna do that in twenty minutes.
Speaker 3 (01:59):
I don't want to it.
Speaker 1 (02:00):
It's a big surprise, excited, nothing, I like a goad.
You know, we plan out the show. During the day,
we send emails back and forth, we talk about topics.
Right before the show, I said, oh, no, we have
to talk about this when I heard this person say
something about the NFL. We're going to talk about a
very specific quarterback. We're going to talk about, but you
want to talk. I mean, the last few weeks I
(02:21):
feel like has been a slow build for everybody who's
in the Angel Reese camp versus everybody who's in the
Caitlyn Clark camp, right, because Caitlyn Clark's been injured fever.
Speaker 3 (02:32):
Have him been great?
Speaker 2 (02:33):
Now?
Speaker 1 (02:33):
The sky have been terrible, right, Okay, Sky've been awful.
But Angel Reese has been terrific the last few weeks.
This isn't just oh the double doubles where hey, you know,
three of eleven from the floor in fifteen rebounds. It's
been twenty four and fifteen, twenty four and seventeen. She
has had a terrific last couple of months, and you know,
culminated with the All Star selection a couple of days ago.
(02:54):
But now, especially when you get to today, I feel
like this is a day and seeing some because it's
it's always going to be fun, is always going to
be the Caitlin Clark Angel Reese battle on social media
with friends, selling people back every day, every single and
I want to say today, finally Angel Reese can plan
her flag and say I am having a better year
than Caitlin Clark. Is right, because Katelyn Clark's been injured.
(03:15):
Like I said, she's been injured. Yes, she's an All
Star captain, but the Fever have not been great. She
had a rough game today. She had ten points. Now
she's gonna get back into the swing. It's her first
game back. But the Fever lose. They were non competitive.
Stephanie White, the head coach, was really upset about it.
And the Angel re celebrates today with getting a new shoe,
getting her signature shoe, and she's on the cover.
Speaker 6 (03:34):
Of the WNBA version of the NBA two K twenty
six K video game. So let's say she gets a
video game cover and a shoe on the same day.
The Kaylin Clark's team is bad and they question their effort.
Finally she can walk around and Angel Reese backers can
say we won today, we won.
Speaker 5 (03:50):
The day they really did.
Speaker 4 (03:52):
And also the sky one today against the Dallas Swings,
and Angel Reese had another double double. She had fifteen
points and eleven rebounds, six of ten in the field. So,
like you said, I agree, like she's she's winning maybe
this month. You know, she's totally winning this month. But
what's super annoying is that, like the whole discourse, like
you just set off social media. Like if I right
(04:14):
now were to be like, man, what a weak month
Angel Reese has had, people would come out, oh, so
you don't like Kaitlyn Clark, and it's like, bro, I
do I.
Speaker 5 (04:24):
Like them both?
Speaker 4 (04:24):
And it's almost like you can't like them both. It's
one of the weirdest things. The w n b A
is bad reality TV. I'm paying attention.
Speaker 5 (04:32):
I love bad reality TV. But it's at the same time.
Speaker 1 (04:35):
It's good bad. It's where I don't want to why
it's good.
Speaker 5 (04:39):
Good bad reality TV.
Speaker 4 (04:40):
But it's like people are not watching the w n
b A to watch a double double from Angel Reese.
They're watching it because they want the drama, and that's
that's bad. If you really think about why people are
tuning into the w n b A for the drama, not.
Speaker 3 (04:52):
The sport, I disagree.
Speaker 1 (04:55):
I think there's a lot of people that are tuning
in to watch Kaitlyn Clark play.
Speaker 3 (04:58):
And she's not.
Speaker 4 (05:00):
She's not playing right now, and that's that's what I'm saying.
It's like she's not. If she was playing, it would
be a different, you know story. But right now, maybe
you're watching Pagebackers, maybe you're watching the Aces even though
they suck right now. But it's it's just bad reality TV.
But I just hate that we can't just give credit
and like celebrate Angel Reese.
Speaker 3 (05:18):
No, can't do it.
Speaker 5 (05:18):
No, you can't. No, you have to be all in
or all out.
Speaker 1 (05:22):
I can't celebrate Jalen Brunson and Jason Tatum. I can't
do that. I can't do that.
Speaker 3 (05:26):
Come on, but I can't do that.
Speaker 5 (05:28):
If you did that, it would be more acceptable than this.
Speaker 3 (05:31):
I can't celebrate Jalen Brunson and Luga Dodgets.
Speaker 5 (05:34):
I can't do that.
Speaker 4 (05:35):
Do that?
Speaker 3 (05:35):
Okay, No one guy, No, one guy's the best.
Speaker 4 (05:38):
They the WNBA would hate me as I'm walking around
with a Jimmy Butler Miami heat shirt when I love
the Clippers.
Speaker 5 (05:43):
But I'm gonna wear Jimmy Butler all day. Okay, you
know what I'm saying. They would hate me.
Speaker 4 (05:49):
I have Angel ree Kaitlyn Clark w NBA jam shirt
with both of them from the All Star Game because
that's the only time they've been teammates.
Speaker 1 (05:58):
Right, Because when Kitlyn Clark had a chance to be
inmates where her she said nope, And.
Speaker 3 (06:01):
I'm not gonna play for Cheryl Reeve who hates me too.
Now who's got the power? Now, who's got the power? Angel?
You go there, and you go there, Cheryl, I know
you've hated me. You didn't want to pick me for
the for the Olympic team. You were upset when my
game was on the very first night last year and
not your team. No, now, you you wouldn't want me
for the for the Olympics.
Speaker 1 (06:20):
I don't want you for the All Star Game. This
is pettiness to a high level for Caitlyn Clark. This
is this is a flex like last night was big
because that was a flex by Caitlyn Clark on the
entire league. Yeah, sorry, Angel, you play somewhere else. And yeah, Cheryl, yeah,
I'm gonna announce that you're gonna play for the other team.
Not in a fist a Collier who it would make
sense for her to say, hey, we're making a trade.
(06:42):
I get to play for my coach and Cheryl Reeve,
this is a cool thing. No, it's Kitlyn Clark saying, hey, Wnb,
I don't care if you say we're doing it.
Speaker 3 (06:48):
I don't care.
Speaker 1 (06:49):
She might as well say, because I ain't playing for her,
because she can't stand me, and I don't want to
play for her. Look at the muscles I'm making right now.
I'm like doing Hull Cogan flexes right now here picking
the All Star team.
Speaker 4 (07:00):
You're right on the money, bad reality to me, right
even that, even that part of it, like, I mean,
it was great. It was great because it adds to
the story and it adds the tension. If not, I wonder,
I wonder if somebody told her to do that or
if she really just did it on her own.
Speaker 1 (07:17):
Oh, Kaitlyn Clark no way wanted to play with Angel
Reese and elevate her anymore, because you know it's got
to kill her for every discussion for someone to say
Kayla and Angel, No, you don't have to always say
Angel Reese's name, and then you know there's no way
she wanted to play Showy Reeve, who was so outspoken,
didn't even want to talk about Kaitlyn Clark on the
te ds. You know that she was saying, yeah, I'm
not playing for you, even in an All Star game.
Speaker 3 (07:39):
I'm not doing it.
Speaker 4 (07:39):
But Caitlyn Clark has to know that keeping Angel Reese
on the team would create less stories.
Speaker 1 (07:51):
I don't know about that, no, because she doesn't want
to hear the All Star Game being about Caitlyn and
Angel being teammates, because that would be the story.
Speaker 5 (07:57):
That would people would hate that because all they want
to do is to them apart.
Speaker 3 (08:00):
Kitlyn Clark doesn't want that because I'm done. I'm done.
Speaker 1 (08:02):
When when Kennedy Carter slammed into Camp Clark last year
and then she goes off the floor and Angel Reese
hugs her, that.
Speaker 3 (08:10):
Was the end.
Speaker 1 (08:10):
That was where where Caitlin Clark went Terminator dead Eye said, Okay,
that's it. We can pretend that we're cool and that's fine,
but I know not happening. I'm sorry that this is.
They can make and you know, play nice with the cameras.
You know they can't stand each other. You know they can't.
Speaker 4 (08:23):
And I have said that also in the past, where
it's like it's okay that they don't like each other.
Speaker 5 (08:26):
It is Okay, it's not. It's not a big deal.
It's just everyone else is making it way bigger of
a deal than it needs to be.
Speaker 4 (08:34):
But yeah, Angel Reese is is killing it right now
and trademarking me bounds.
Speaker 6 (08:40):
Yeah see, I don't know about that because that was
kort of You know, you get all your own offensive reap,
whether it's true or not. Like the images and the
impression is she gets her own misshots.
Speaker 3 (08:49):
Sure, I wouldn't. Why wouldn't want to celebrate that?
Speaker 4 (08:52):
Like, you know, people are buying that merchandise and buying
the product. It's like, I don't know, maybe it seems
not like a smart move, but financially it seems like
the right move.
Speaker 3 (09:03):
I don't know.
Speaker 6 (09:04):
I'd like if I'm if I'm uh, what's a good
example here? If I'm if I'm Damian Lillard, I don't
buy it. Wear a T shirt that says volume Shooter,
like I don't.
Speaker 3 (09:12):
I don't do that. You know, I don't do that
because you know I don't. I don't know.
Speaker 5 (09:15):
I'm gonna wear it tomorrow.
Speaker 4 (09:16):
I'm gonna wear it tomorrow, Volume Shooter no overrated over
Halliburton T shirt. I'm gonna wear it tomorrow. I forgot
I'm gonna wear it tomorrow. That's a perfect example. Isn't
that kind of the same thing.
Speaker 1 (09:28):
No, he's using that as motivation. This is like, hey,
I'm a volume shooter. Wait, that's not a good thing.
Hey me bounce, I get my own offensive REBOI. Yeah, no,
it's like you should make the shot. That's not not
an offense. Now look now, I actually today being this day, right,
I have one bit of advice for each of them. Okay,
I th that they should follow. Okayy, who do you.
Speaker 3 (09:45):
Want to do first?
Speaker 5 (09:45):
Let's do Angel re Angel Reaes first, winning the day.
What's the giving her?
Speaker 1 (09:50):
Keep doing what you're doing, because for the last month
she's been about basketball. Sure, right, And that's Angel Reese's
thing is you can see how much she's dying to
be a star, dying to be irrelevant, dying. She's she's
one of the biggest look at me people in the world.
And ever since the whole crazy race thing came up
where someone they thought someone yelled something racial, when Caitlyn
(10:10):
Clark and Angel he's had that hard foul and Angel
and when they put out the big statement saying, hey,
there's no place for any discussion like that. And then
she quote tweeted something someone said about, oh yeah, how
about that white girl Caitlyn Clark running away from you? Like, Okay,
that's your being part of the problem with that. Since
that moment, she has been out of the headlines. And
look at that. And I don't think there's anything you
(10:32):
can say other than she's not made headlines for anything
other than basketball. Yes, the team is bad, you know,
she's not thrown anybody else under the under the bus
and says is terrible. She she's putting up numbers. She's
putting up twenty four and fifteen, eighteen, fourteen and seven.
Continue to be about basketball. That's how you're going to
continue to win fans and have and and continue to
(10:53):
have a big career. Continue to be about the basketball,
right So that that's my advice for her, because you
see how that's working.
Speaker 3 (10:58):
Now.
Speaker 1 (10:58):
Yeah, today's Dayrate today, celebrate to that big day, the
shoe and and and the video game. Cover you out
one hundred percent. Celebrate today, but continue to be about basketball.
Speaker 4 (11:07):
You're not wrong because that's one of the ways to
actually shut up the haters. Because one of the thing
was that you weren't playing basketball well. But now when
you're playing well basketball, even though you're on a losing team,
people can tell the difference. People can see the difference
in how you may be losing or playing.
Speaker 5 (11:24):
So it's good advice. Okay, what do you have for
Kayln Clark?
Speaker 3 (11:26):
Kaitlyn Clark, You got to start making shots?
Speaker 4 (11:29):
Yes?
Speaker 3 (11:29):
Okay?
Speaker 1 (11:30):
Who think has a hire a better shooting percentage this
year in the WNBA, Caitlyn Clark or Angel Reese.
Speaker 5 (11:37):
Well, the fact that you're asking me right, a loaded question.
Speaker 1 (11:39):
Right, Angel Reaes, Caitlyn Clark is thirty nine percent from
the floor this year.
Speaker 5 (11:43):
She's just from the floor in general.
Speaker 3 (11:44):
She has become a volume shooter.
Speaker 1 (11:46):
Now, obviously she's been not make excuses, but she's been
hurt in and out of the lineup, working her way back,
but she's been under forty percent shooting from the floor
in over in two thirds of her games. She's had
two or three big games where she was like fifty
five from the floor. But she's having trouble. She's become
a volume shooter. Her beg is Yeah, Kaylen Clark twenty
three points and tenant and she's still dishing the ball
(12:07):
out and leading the league in assists all that, but yeah,
her twenty three points are on you know, seven for
nineteen shooting and she's two for nine from three point range.
Speaker 4 (12:15):
Right.
Speaker 1 (12:16):
Not many players make more than a couple threes in
the WNBA, Like she makes the most. She's averaging like
two point nine threes a game. I think only one
or two other players even make at least two in
a game. So it's not like there's there's you expect
to see so many. But you look at that shooting
percentage and I'm like, this is what I'm used to
from rique a gunbalwalle, you know, scoring twenty five points
on twenty five shots every game, Like I'm taking all
(12:37):
the shots. Right, She's still up there. But Caitlyn Clark
has taken the second most shots of anybody in the
league this year, and her shooting percentage is under forty.
She's not even the top fifty of shooting percentage in
the WNBA this year. She's got to make more shots,
you know, the heat check things that happen, and yeah,
she's got to be able to put I mean it's
it's pretty simple, but you have gone from hey, once
(12:58):
in a while, you're a volume three point shooter, which
I get. Not every game you're gonna shoot five out
of nine from three point range. Sometimes it's gonna be
three for twelve or three for thirteen, But the rest
of your game can't be where Yeah, I have four
other baskets on sixteen other shots, Like you can't that
can't happen. She has become a volume. That's like her
walking around right now wearing a T shirt saying volume.
Speaker 5 (13:19):
Shoot, volume shooter. Yeah.
Speaker 4 (13:21):
And you know, sometimes I wonder if she is trying
to come back sooner than she should. The WNBA season
is short, you know, like we're already what halfway through it,
so she's got to come back now in order to
make any impact.
Speaker 5 (13:34):
But I feel like she almost needs to slow. I
don't know if like she.
Speaker 4 (13:38):
Does meditation or like be able to calm everything around
her in her own head. I feel like she seems
a little bit spastick, like a little bit just out
of her control. And I don't know how often I've
seen that in Caitlin Clark, but right now it looks
like she is not in control of her else, of
(14:00):
her movement, and like it's it's getting away from her
quickly and I know, obviously there's pressure on her to
come back and play, especially missing that first game against
Pagebeckers and the Dallas Wings. Now this next game is
being moved to accommodate the crowd that's gonna come to
this game. So I'm sure there's pressure for her to
get back on the court. But it seems like she's
(14:21):
being rushed. Maybe and I'm not saying other people, maybe
she's rushing herself because she knows the pressure. But she
seems out of her body, like she doesn't seem in
control like she used to.
Speaker 6 (14:30):
Yeah, it's a comfort level comfort, especially with new teammates
coming in because they molded up this year to try
to and they haven't had the time together, you know.
And so but again we're twenty games into the season
and a halfway. I still, you know, as long as
Kaitlyn Clark stays healthy, by the time you get to now,
you should be long because I said by game thirty,
but this is now obviously with injury, it's gonna be longer.
(14:52):
By the time we get to the later part of
the season, We'll say, boy, the Fever the best team
in the WNBA.
Speaker 5 (14:56):
You thinks, yes.
Speaker 1 (14:57):
By that time when Caitlyn Clark gets back in the swing,
gets used to her teammates because we've seen them in
bits and in bits and pieces this year win big
games and win big games and blow out style. So
it's gonna take a little bit longer, but I firmly
expect by the end of the year it's gonna be bory.
They're the best team and they should win the championship.
Speaker 4 (15:12):
That's if she's not having a legit injury that she's
trying to hide.
Speaker 5 (15:16):
You know what I'm saying, This just is not like her.
Speaker 4 (15:18):
She didn't miss a single game in college, and now
she's missed what nine games so far? Ten issues about
this so and with two different injuries. I I yeah,
I hope you're right. I hope you're right, just because
for the sake of the league. For the sake of
the league, she the fever needs to be competitive. If
they're not competitive and they're let's say they don't make
the playoffs, even though everyone makes the playoffs in the WNBA,
(15:38):
just about like, they do need them and they need
it to be competitive because everybody does gonna want to
watch Caitlyn Clark in the playoffs.
Speaker 1 (15:45):
Jason Smith Monte Bolano's Fox Sports Raids. Nag could grant
Angel rees wins the debt wins. She could, she could
hold up that trophy I want it told. They could
raise the banner in the next Sky Game. Angel rees
better than Caitlyn Clark on this day, On this day,
This Day, Video game Shoe, Double.
Speaker 3 (16:03):

Fox Sports Radio, the Jason Smith Show with Moncie Belangos
and for Mike Harmon as.
Speaker 3 (17:06):
Man not a hobo, that's right, that's right.
Speaker 1 (17:11):
Now, as promised, we have an NFL discussion to be
at here, and I don't know, part of me feels
like like a dad when your kid does something and
and sort of feels like they're following in your footsteps,
or you know, you influence someone someone else who you've
(17:31):
known for a while to go, oh this is kind
of cool, like that's right, kind of feel like I
am right now manse here's here's why. So obviously the
last couple of days Kirk Cousins has been a pretty
big conversation, right, you know, on the new season of Quarterback.
He went on yesterday and said that he felt that
the Falcons misled him, uh when they said, yeah, we're
gonna draft a quarterback, but who knows where. Oh no,
(17:53):
we're drafting Michael Pennix Junior in the first round. So
he was upset about that. So we played the sound bite,
we talked about it last night, and look, my big
thing was, yeah, the Falcons were just stupid, because how
do you know, team gives a guy four years, one
hundred and eighty million dollars and then drafts a quarterback
in the top ten.
Speaker 3 (18:13):
Nobody does that because that's just stupid. You're asking to
be stuck, And so the Falcons are stuck right with stupid.
Last year was stupid six months ago, it's stupid now
now all this Kirk Cousins, Kirk Cousins, Kirk Cousins, Wow,
why are we getting this? Because apparently now Alex ty Shirt.
Speaker 5 (18:27):
Is now who knows absolutely nothing.
Speaker 1 (18:30):
About sports, absolutely nothing zero about sports, zero about sports.
I don't even know how much he pays attention. Right
before he went on the air tonight, yeah, I walk
in and go, hey, what's going on? He goes, Jay,
do you know al much money Kirk Cousins is made
in his career? And I said, who are you? And
what have you done with Alex Tyscher? You're a pod person?
Now you are not happy with Kirk cousins career and
(18:52):
what he's made for it so far?
Speaker 3 (18:54):
Which one do you want me to start on the career?
His money? Dude? Just go what do you need to
just go? I'm going to reference this website. It's sports
rack dot com.
Speaker 5 (19:02):
Kay E sports rack on.
Speaker 3 (19:03):
This website, what like it's safe? Okay, Okay, with a
name like well, with a name like that's different part
of the you know what, Just keep going. I did
check too, just for your sake, Monsei, they do have
Swingey above.
Speaker 6 (19:17):
J Lo say, okay, so you know, so, Jason, I
was just thinking to myself because we're always talking money,
right yeah, and when by Yama could be the first
billionaire in NBA eventually, right, sure? Okay, So I was thinking, like,
how much do people really make in sports? It can't
be that crazy, right, Okay? Yeah I was wrong. Well,
we've put the thing is, we've talked about money and
big money. You've been on the show now for what
(19:37):
like a good year and a half I think almost
like two years. Yeah, I mean so you've heard us
have big conversations about money. Well, I've heard conversations. I
just don't know what about listening.
Speaker 1 (19:46):
You think they're in the abstract When I say, hey,
three years and one hundred and ten million for Sam
Donalds insane?
Speaker 3 (19:50):
You think what one hundred and ten million megabytes? Like
one hundred and ten million gigabytes? Thinking it's like, I
don't know, like monopoly money or something.
Speaker 1 (19:57):
So it's not real money. You're playing for fun. Okay,
kid's get okay, all right.
Speaker 3 (20:00):
So anyway, so now you realize there's big money in sports.
Speaker 4 (20:03):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (20:03):
For the longest time, I feel like I'm at the
grown up table at Thanksgiving. I'm just listening to you
guys as I'm eating turkey with gravy, right, all right, Sure,
I pull up this and I'm like, let me just
see how much people have made. And I started with
Tom Brady because we know of his illustrious new contract
with Fox Sports won right, yeah?
Speaker 3 (20:18):
And fifty mil yeah insane? Yeah.
Speaker 6 (20:21):
I was like, is that more than his actual NFL career,
which it was. He's made three hundred and thirty million
in his career, right, yes?
Speaker 3 (20:27):
Okay?
Speaker 6 (20:27):
So then I see the top five people, and I
know most of them. Aaron Rodgers, Matthew Stafford, he just
won a Super Bowl. Good for him, you know, I
know all that, right. I see this name, and I
see by the name of Kirk Cousins. I don't have
a cousin named Kirk Kirk Kirk Cousins, I remember you
talked about him, Yes, okay?
Speaker 7 (20:46):
Good?
Speaker 3 (20:46):
Hey, you see their accolades on the right side.
Speaker 6 (20:49):
It's empty. He's done nothing. So I'm like, okay, why
is he top six? Then he's got pay Jason three
hundred million.
Speaker 5 (20:57):
Dollars for what fit and he shops at Coles.
Speaker 6 (21:02):
He should make that much money? Target Sure, manci, how
is this not shocking you? Uh?
Speaker 5 (21:09):
Because I I don't know. I don't have a reason
why it doesn't shock me.
Speaker 6 (21:14):
Uh.
Speaker 5 (21:14):
It just shows that you can be good and make
a lot of money.
Speaker 3 (21:17):
No, No, that's not okay, it's not okay. This isn't
the league very good?
Speaker 2 (21:21):
Is it?
Speaker 3 (21:21):
No, it's not. It's not the whole a very good eye.
Apparently it is.
Speaker 6 (21:24):
You can make three hundred million dollars doing nothing. Yeah, okay, Well,
so I was shocked because I was like, no, maybe
I'm tripping. Maybe Kirk Cousins has done something. He won
one playoff game. He did, and you win three hundred
million dollars. Uh, well you don't win it, you get
you signed. He won the Lotto. And then I keep
looking Jason and the most appalling thing about all this,
who's Matt Ryan.
Speaker 3 (21:45):
This guy's made three hundred mil too. They're just handing
out money.
Speaker 5 (21:48):
The Falcons seem to just be handing out money.
Speaker 3 (21:51):
Where are the Falcons Atlanta? Why are we not there?
Apparently they're handing out money there.
Speaker 6 (21:56):
Most businesses are moving to Atlanta. It's a big tax
break when you feel stuff there. The Walking Dead made
that absolutely obvious.
Speaker 4 (22:02):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (22:03):
Look how many seasons Walking Dead has?
Speaker 6 (22:04):
Yeah, there's like eight different shows. Now, Jason, I'm pissed off.
I would be as well because listen, Aaron Rodgers super
Bowl winner? Yes, very Stafford super Bowl winner?
Speaker 3 (22:14):
Very good? Tom Brady Do I need to say anything
about him around? I just want it life? How many
is Brady won? Seven? Probably? Yes?
Speaker 4 (22:20):
Yes, you know that.
Speaker 3 (22:21):
I didn' even look at your fingers without me even
showing you seven. Yeah, no, you did.
Speaker 5 (22:24):
You knew that.
Speaker 3 (22:25):
Let's keep going.
Speaker 6 (22:25):
Russell Wilson, Yeah, these are all star court, Ben Roethlisberger.
Speaker 3 (22:29):
Yeah, Drew Brees, Yeah, what the hell is Kirk? Can
Ryan do it here? Okay?
Speaker 6 (22:34):
Explain to me, okay, okay, all right, okay, So so
these are the two guys you're upset about my cholesterol levels?
Speaker 3 (22:40):
Off the chain?
Speaker 2 (22:41):
Right?
Speaker 6 (22:41):
It is?
Speaker 2 (22:41):
It is?
Speaker 6 (22:42):
You have you have a Yeah, you could have some
sort of medical procedure. Medical Insan is scary because of
Kirk Cousins. I know, thirty million, Okay, I am, okay,
I am. I am very happy you discovered sports that
number one. I'm very happy I figured out why here.
So now you want me to explain Kurt Cousins to you.
I want to Kirk and then why he's made three
(23:03):
hundred million.
Speaker 3 (23:04):
Okay.
Speaker 6 (23:04):
So Kirk Cousins was a fourth round pick from Washington.
Was yeo, this is this is gonna make even more mad?
Speaker 3 (23:11):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (23:11):
Uh, he was a lower round draft pick, not even
supposed to be. Tyser's got his head in his hands
right now, going was he really?
Speaker 3 (23:18):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (23:18):
He was a fourth round pick, was never supposed to
be the starter? Oh go figure, yeah you know who
the starting quarterback was? No, Robert Griffin the third really three?
Speaker 3 (23:28):
Yeah? Thing?
Speaker 1 (23:29):
Go yeah, okay, that's like him. Okay, good, and you
like him? Okay, And now he has a lot of
hot takes on television.
Speaker 3 (23:35):
Yeah sure. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (23:36):
So he was the starter, but then couldn't stay healthy.
Teammates didn't like him. Kirk Cousins got to play and
he was pretty good.
Speaker 3 (23:44):
Okay, right, so.
Speaker 1 (23:45):
Okay, so then when he became a free agent, it
was a big bidding war for him. And now here's
where you're gonna understand more. The two teams that wanted
kirk Cousins when he first became a free agent were
the Vikings and the Jets. Right now, the Jets who
were desper So it's your fault. Yeah, the Jets are
desperate at life, right, so it's it doesn't you know,
So no matter what it is, they are the most
(24:07):
thirsty person in the world at all times. So when
kirk Cousins became a free agent, we know this now
in retrospect, but I'll tell you as it went on.
Kirk Cousins knew he's getting big offers from the Jets
and the Vikings. So we waited, got the big offer
from the Jets and now wanted the Vikings to match it.
And the Vikings decided, we want you so bad, we're
gonna guarantee all of the money in your contract. So
(24:29):
this signed I think it was three years and eighty
nine million dollars, which that was like nothing, but this
is his first contract like five or six years ago.
And that changed the game because now quarterbacks were getting
guaranteed money. So now kirk Cousins got paid all of
this guaranteed money. He went into Minnesota. Dude, he played
well enough. Stop, he played well enough to earn another contract.
(24:51):
And then he played well enough, not great, but well
enough to earn this contract that he signed with the
Atlanta Foutons.
Speaker 3 (24:58):
You know what this sounds like?
Speaker 6 (24:59):
What the kid that was a nerd for Pokemon bought
all the cards and sat on him till COVID hit
and then made a million dollars. I don't think that
sounds like it at all. Okay, yeah, at least you.
But but in your but in your theory, Kirk Cousins
is not great. But the guy, the kid who had
the Pokemon cards was smart. He had a great or smart.
He just lucked out.
Speaker 3 (25:18):
How do you how do you look out by getting rich?
Speaker 6 (25:20):
No, but you lucked out by getting all those cards.
They're still worth money for you. If it wasn't for COVID,
they wouldn't find everything. Really, so same with this. The
Jets spiked him, but Jet well, yeah that I with
the digestive.
Speaker 3 (25:31):
I have a question for you. Okay, o, Hey, Kirk
Cousins or Andrew Luck? Uh?
Speaker 1 (25:35):
Well, Andrew Luck retired a long time the pick uh
for one game one SAE, Like, what, like, who's had
a better career for a quarterback right now? If I
gave you both of them, Well, Andrew Luck hasn't played
in like five years a question in their prime. Yes,
I would still take Andrew Luck probably he's only made
a ninety million well because he retired.
Speaker 4 (25:53):
When he was.
Speaker 5 (25:55):
No, yeah you're here.
Speaker 4 (25:57):
I feel like Alex is like missing, like jumping from
you know, one year and then he's like what it's like,
well a lot happened in these three four years, you know,
like the market grew like that, saying.
Speaker 3 (26:09):
First the earth cooled, then the dinosaurs, but they got
to make Jason, this is literally appalling. Well, but so
you don't like what you want Andrew Luck, who didn't
accomplish anything in his career either, but I think he
won one playoff game or two playoff games you want, he's.
Speaker 6 (26:24):
A freaking Saints Hall of Famer. No, he didn't play
for the Saints. Yea, Andrew Luck was cults. Oh yeah
that's right. Yeah, but you but you still love him though? Yeah, Okay,
all right, there's another one, Jason. Okay, last point, Jared
Goff Okay, is Jared golf a Hall of Famer.
Speaker 3 (26:41):
Uh Jared Goff, Is he a Hall of Famer?
Speaker 6 (26:44):
No?
Speaker 3 (26:44):
Probably not a Hall of super Bowl Right, yeah, yeah, made,
he's been. He's less than this guy. Oh just wait, yeah,
he's gonna get just waits. Yeah, I'm done talking.
Speaker 5 (26:58):
It's gonna upset you when he surpassed his Kirk cousin.
Speaker 3 (27:00):
Tell me then, what happened with Matt Ryan? Jason? Matt
Matt Ryan also got to a Super Bowl? Stops.
Speaker 5 (27:10):
It's in the words of Lebron James, it's not all
about winning.
Speaker 1 (27:14):
But this, this is what happens when you discover sports
all at once. It's a lot to the overload of information.
Philip Rivers, it's a lot. It's he didn't win a
super Bowl?
Speaker 6 (27:22):
He did?
Speaker 2 (27:22):
Was he better?
Speaker 6 (27:23):
Uh?
Speaker 3 (27:24):
In is probably Philip Rivers is terrific. Yeah, he's also
not to make as much either.
Speaker 5 (27:27):
He didn't play a time when they're getting paid like that.
Speaker 3 (27:30):
Yeah, that's true.
Speaker 4 (27:31):
It was, it was, It was.
Speaker 3 (27:32):
It was with Joe Montana. No, it was after Joe Montana.
I know. Yeah, but Joe Montana won four super Bowls
and also didn't make anything.
Speaker 5 (27:42):
Yes, it's I think he did.
Speaker 3 (27:43):
Okay, Well, no, he's on the list because he played
in the eighties and the nineties. Bad job by him, Well,
bad job him being.
Speaker 1 (27:50):
Born and be born late, Okay later, Okay, So you're
just really upset that all of these random quarterbacks you
came up with didn't get paid as much money as
Kirk Cousins.
Speaker 3 (27:59):
Yeah, because all of these quarterbacks are much better.
Speaker 5 (28:02):
Okay, I know some of them are.
Speaker 3 (28:05):
Okay, they're a little bit better. Okay, a little bit. Yeah,
they're a little bit better.
Speaker 6 (28:08):
Okay, Jason, he's literally only thirty million off from Tom Brady.
Speaker 3 (28:14):
That shouldn't be close.
Speaker 1 (28:15):
Yeah, but Brady took less money for the majority of
his career so this team could have a good players
that they could sign to win Super Bowls. So he
did that on purpose, Okay, Bret Brady didn't Lebron James's way.
So such, I want the absolute most money you could
possibly give me.
Speaker 6 (28:29):
I just think this is a perfect example of you
take all the money and have nothing left for a
good team.
Speaker 3 (28:35):
Yeah, Okay, I'm upset.
Speaker 5 (28:36):
Okay, he's just like she's upset over over something that's
not real. I don't know how to explain that all
this stuff is real.
Speaker 3 (28:45):
But the comparison.
Speaker 5 (28:46):
The comparison, Yea, the anger is is misplaced here.
Speaker 1 (28:50):
I think it's a little bit of Monty Python language
when they trying to figure out if she's a witch,
and they go, if she weighs more than a duck,
then she's a witch burner like that's kind of that's
kind of what's going on.
Speaker 3 (29:01):
Said.
Speaker 6 (29:01):
I'm just saying Aaron Rodgers and Matthew Stafford have made
more than Tom Brady.
Speaker 3 (29:04):
I'm cool with that. Okay, I'm cool with that because
they won Super makes me do something.
Speaker 5 (29:08):
Okay, because you and your what you're arguing Tom Brady
should be making more than them.
Speaker 2 (29:11):
I'm sho.
Speaker 3 (29:13):
He did the cuts to win the Super Bowls, so
that's fair. Okay. He just learned that.
Speaker 5 (29:17):
He just yeah, he just learned that.
Speaker 2 (29:19):
Eight seconds.
Speaker 3 (29:20):
Bring it right back. He took like he took the cuts.
He took the cut.
Speaker 5 (29:23):
He was never the highest paid quarterback.
Speaker 3 (29:24):
He took the cuts. Jason.
Speaker 6 (29:26):
I'm just saying, I understand now why certain franchises suck.
That's all I'm saying. Okay, you're paying a quarterback. I
understand now how sometimes sports can be really confusing for people. Yeah,
I understand that now yeah, I get that, Now, I
got I understand. I'm just saying, Jason, if you look
at like somebody that's highly like, for example, one of
our friends here, Colin Cowards going to the Hall of Fame,
right right, why didn't you say he's worth the money
he gets sure, he's a call for something. Okay, I'm
(29:49):
all right, all right, so this is me off.
Speaker 1 (29:50):
Okay, so so okay, so call so so Colin Coward
better than Kirk Cousins, yes, okay, but better than Andrew Luck.
Speaker 3 (29:58):
Colin Coward better than better than Andrew Luck. No, okay,
all right, all right, I would trust Luck with a
past more. Okay, wow, okay, get that.
Speaker 5 (30:07):
That's not like he needs sports.
Speaker 3 (30:09):
That's that's why I don't go to That's why not
go to Boortland.
Speaker 1 (30:11):
Not going, not gonna go, No, not gonna go, not
gonna work out, not gonna do anything, not gonna be
like a fairly not gonna happen. All right, there we go.
So now we know the higher that should be your ranking?
Put up, put up some kind of public ranking of
of in order you know, personalities ranked and and Andrew
Luck is one, okay, Colin Coward two, Kirk Cousins three
and let me just let me just see what people
(30:32):
write in the in their responses under it honorary mention.
Speaker 4 (30:36):
Okay, it's just so funny that Kirk Cousins is the
one who's upsetting him the most over the money he's making.
Speaker 5 (30:41):
He said he only want what playoff game. Yeah, talk
to Trevor Lawrence the money he made after one playoff win.
Speaker 3 (30:47):
Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, it's just he's looking.
Speaker 4 (30:50):
He doesn't you know what I'm saying, Like, there's there's
so many other players I probably annoy you.
Speaker 3 (30:54):
Hey, do me favor.
Speaker 1 (30:55):
Look up Trevor Lawrence. You won't be as mad as
Kirk Cousins. You will not be as bad as her cousins.
Speaker 5 (31:00):
That's that's a good. That's why again I.
Speaker 1 (31:03):
Felt that was an It was fine, Ty Shirt. Discovering
sports and discovering people get paid a lot of casts,
a lot of which is why we have sports talk
radio because.
Speaker 3 (31:13):
It's that kind of indix. Oh the guy that puts
for the Panthers, No.
Speaker 6 (31:16):
No Jaguars, Another cat wars another cat. Oh yeah, okay, yeah,
I look at what that is?
Speaker 3 (31:21):
All right?
Speaker 1 (31:22):
So well, Tyshit looks that up Moncie. What's the trending
in the wide world of sports? Anybody else getting paid
more money we need to know about?
Speaker 5 (31:28):
Oh yeah, I know. I'm surprised he's not met at
Devin Booker for making the money.
Speaker 3 (31:33):
Realized that Devin Booker is forgetting.
Speaker 5 (31:35):
Because Devin Booker has not made it. Has he made
it to a Western Conference finals? Off the talk? I can't.
I don't think so.
Speaker 3 (31:43):
No, I think.
Speaker 5 (31:46):
Did he make it to a Wister Conference finals?
Speaker 3 (31:47):
Devin Booker?
Speaker 4 (31:49):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (31:49):
Yeah, yeah, well they loved they lost to the Bucks.
That's what it was.
Speaker 4 (31:52):
Okay, But yes, Devin Booker not an NBA champion, but
he is making a lot of money as he and
the Sons have agreed to a two year, one hundred
and forty five million dollar maximum contract extension with the
franchise through the twenty nine twenty thirty season, the highest
annual extension salary in NBA history. Another guy that's getting
paid a lot of money Chuck Holmgren. He and the
(32:13):
Oklahoma City Thunder agreed to a fully guaranteed, five year
maximum Rickey contract extension, reportedly worth up to two hundred
and fifty million dollars.
Speaker 5 (32:24):
In baseball, the last game has just wrapped up. It
was back and forth between the Angels and the Rangers.
Speaker 4 (32:29):
Jrrez Soled with the two run homer gave the Angels
the lead they held on.
Speaker 5 (32:34):
They beat the Rangers eleven to eight. The Diamondbacks took
down the Padres in San Diego eight to two. Ronald
Acunya Junior homer twice for the Braves. They outscored the
A's nine to two.
Speaker 4 (32:45):
The Guardians completed a three game sweep of the Astros,
coming out on top today four to two, while the
Nationals defeated the Cardinals eight to two. The Royals handed
the Pirates their six straight loss, edging them for to three.
Speaker 5 (32:57):
The Red Sox have won six in a row. They
outscored the Rocky ten to two.
Speaker 4 (33:01):
Jazz Chooshom Junior homer twice for the Yankees as they
defeated the Mariners nine to six, and the Rays took
down the Tigers seven to three. Also, Ray slugger Junior Camineto,
who leads the American League third basement in home run
said that he's gonna partake in the home run Derby
on Monday in Atlanta, Dodgers of lost six in a
row Brewers brought brought out the broomsticks, sweeping them second series.
(33:23):
The Dodgers have been swept in a row. Three to
two was the final score in ten innings. Also, Baseball
did announce that they're going to use the automated ball
Strike Challenge system during Tuesday's All Star Game at Truest
Park in Atlanta. And also in the NFL, Buccaneers All
Pro left tackle Tristan Wirth underwent arthroscopic surgery on that
right knee and so he could start the season on
(33:45):
the physically unable to perform list, meaning he would miss
at least four games.
Speaker 5 (33:50):
No bueno for Tampa Ball. No, yeah, no bueno.
Speaker 4 (33:54):
They have like a they're playing the Eagles, they're playing
the Jets. That's like, you know, that's that's Baker Mayfield's dude.
Speaker 5 (34:01):
That's his dude.
Speaker 3 (34:02):
Prot I'm excited Justson gets some sacks.
Speaker 5 (34:05):
Ye should they should? They should?
Speaker 4 (34:08):
Baker Mayfield's gonna have a lot of ice cold bats
after those games.
Speaker 1 (34:11):
All right, So we'll get to Baker Mayfield. But Tysher,
you looked up Trevor Lawrence. Are you mad at about
the money he's gotten?
Speaker 3 (34:16):
So Jason, at first, I was like, oh, he made
thirty nine mil he's injured. That's chilling. Okay. Then I
saw what he's gonna make by twenty thirty. Yeah, I
think we should break Okay, it's gonna make more than Brady. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
see you see, I know I don't like sports.
Speaker 1 (34:34):
Coming up next, is it time to worry about the
best team in baseball?
Speaker 3 (34:38):
Don't worry about corback t made.
Speaker 1 (34:42):
Jason Smith Monty Boladio is in for Mike Harmon Fox
Sports Radio.
Speaker 2 (34:47):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific.
Speaker 1 (34:55):
Fox Sports Radio, The Jason Smith Show with Montie Blagos
in from Mike Harmon, and.
Speaker 3 (35:01):
Uh, not one, not two, not three, not four, not five,
make it six.
Speaker 5 (35:07):
Stop it right, losses in a row, Stop it right now.
Speaker 1 (35:09):
For the Dodgers, the best team in baseball. Okay, get
swept by the Astros.
Speaker 6 (35:16):
It's fine.
Speaker 1 (35:16):
Their Astros have been a big ball of knives the
last month or so. Swept by the Brewers.
Speaker 6 (35:23):
First time in Milwaukee history they have swept the Dodgers
in Milwaukee. They'd never known they've been playing in Milwaukee
since the late sixties, and they have not beaten the
Dodgers swept the Dodgers at home since they've been and
they do it for the first time the last three days,
(35:44):
they sweep the Dodgers, and the Dodgers now have lost
six in a row. Yeah, now, mind, I know you
and Frostburg go'said, okay, the middle of the season, where
are you as far as this.
Speaker 1 (35:58):
If ten is the world is ending, the sky is falling,
and one is, this is not. I don't even care
about this at all. Where are you scaling one to ten?
Speaker 5 (36:07):
Six and a half?
Speaker 3 (36:08):
Okay?
Speaker 5 (36:09):
I care, Okay, I do care.
Speaker 2 (36:11):
I know, I know.
Speaker 4 (36:11):
It's in the grand scheme of things. We're approaching the
All Star break. This is the perfect time to suck.
I get all that Dodgers are gonna be fine.
Speaker 5 (36:19):
They're gonna make the postseason.
Speaker 4 (36:20):
But like, in reality, a roster that looks like the
Dodgers should be embarrassed to have lost six in a row.
Speaker 5 (36:27):
It's the truth. It doesn't matter when it's happening.
Speaker 4 (36:29):
Now, and in the grand scheme of things, yes, they're
sure it doesn't matter, but like it's it's quite annoying,
especially just the way that they've lost. I'm not like
they seem our main hitters seem lost. Offensively, I don't
know what they're swinging at. I don't even Freddy Freeman,
who is usually pretty clutch controlling his swing doesn't strike
out a lot, is striking out a lot right now.
(36:51):
They're all I don't know if it's like I they
feel like I have to compensate because this guy's sucking.
But then I turn out sucking because I'm trying to
cover for you, Like I don't know what it is.
Speaker 3 (37:00):
You're making me suck. Sucks so bad, you make me suck.
Speaker 5 (37:04):
Literally, it's contagious. Everyone's sucking right now, all right. At
least Tyler Glass now came.
Speaker 4 (37:09):
Back and actually pitched five six innings justin May. Last
week had eight innings and they took him out. That
was the longest a Dodgers pitcher had gone all season.
Speaker 1 (37:19):
Yeah, that is embarrassing, I think since her shy's are
in nineteen eighty eight, in a long time, so in
the grand scheme.
Speaker 5 (37:26):
Yeah, but like it is, it is annoying.
Speaker 4 (37:28):
They shouldn't especially especially Astros just got swept by the Guardians. Yeah, okay,
so we get swept by The Astros were the first
services two thousand and eight at Dodger Stadium, which is
the worst.
Speaker 5 (37:37):
Seem to get swept by Boo boo you very yeah,
like I care.
Speaker 2 (37:45):
I care.
Speaker 5 (37:45):
It's not the end of the world. I'm not out
of ten, but I do care. It's very annoying.
Speaker 1 (37:49):
I'll tell you, I'll tell you where I'm at. And
this seems pretty I feel this is on the nose
of where the Dodgers are. I don't fear the Dodgers
like I did last year before. I don't fear them.
Speaker 6 (38:01):
All the moves they made to get better this season
and still they have injury issues.
Speaker 1 (38:05):
The lineup's not performing. You want to think that, Okay,
at some maybe Mookie Betts turns it around in the
second half. He's at an awful first half. Maybe more
they start hitting a little bit, more, players come back,
pitchers come back, get healthy. But I just don't fear
this team.
Speaker 3 (38:19):
I don't. They don't have the invincibility aura that they.
Speaker 6 (38:23):
Have even last year in the NLCS. I'm like, yeah,
we're coming in, We've got to win four out of seven.
Speaker 3 (38:27):
We're gonna lose. Who am I kidding?
Speaker 2 (38:28):
All Right?
Speaker 3 (38:29):
The Dodgers were.
Speaker 6 (38:29):
They were clearly a better team, and even though they
made moves and on paper they're better. This is probably
the best team I've seen on paper in thirty years
of Major League Baseball.
Speaker 1 (38:38):
I don't fear them. I go in, not that they're
not gonna make the playoffs, not that they're not gonna,
but I'll go in. This is where I'm at, like,
I'll go into it to a playoff series, the Dodgers going,
we can win this one hundred percent. We can win this,
and it's not gonna be a huge, incredible upset. Like
the Dodgers are. I no longer fear them.
Speaker 3 (38:54):
They don't have that.
Speaker 1 (38:55):
Boy, look at what they can do every single spot
in the order pitching wise, No matter what Dave Roberts does,
he brings in the right reliever all the time. Like
what happened last year, I don't feel that way anymore.
I feel like we can go in and they are
vulnerable and they are beatable, and I get into a
playoff series and we can win.
Speaker 4 (39:10):
And that's probably because I mean, I don't blame you
for feeling that way, but last year, yeah, a lot
of pitching issues, right, Oh, twenty twenty different starting pitchers
that the Dodgers use. It was a record the whole thing.
But the offense was always alive. The offense always kept
the Dodgers in the game.
Speaker 5 (39:28):
This year, right now, it's like the Dodgers don't have
an offense.
Speaker 4 (39:31):
They are not They're leaving men in scoring positions, they're
not hitting when it matters.
Speaker 5 (39:36):
I understand why. You look at them and you're like, oh, yeah,
they're human after all.
Speaker 4 (39:40):
Like the hype that they had last year, I also
don't see it now, which is shocking because it's virtually
the same team on paper, if not even better. Yeah,
if not even better. You know, but Roki Sasaki injured,
like all of the pitching injuries. I'm not even like
stressed about that because we went through that last year
and still prevailed. It is the lack of offense from
(40:04):
top to bottom. When Michael Conforto is the one hitting,
there's a problem.
Speaker 1 (40:09):
Yeah, you look in the mirror on that one. He
was so bad the Mets let him. We let him
go like seven years ago.
Speaker 5 (40:14):
And then like in the stretch, he's been hitting the
ball nobody else has.
Speaker 3 (40:18):
Yeah, no, so it does not matter.
Speaker 2 (40:20):
It does not matter.
Speaker 5 (40:21):
It's like every I'm telling you, it's the sucking is contagious.
Speaker 3 (40:24):
Everyone sucks right now, he sucks and you suck. You
suck and I don't suck, but I suck just because
I'm standing next to you.
Speaker 2 (40:31):
That's one.
Speaker 5 (40:33):
Alexis Diaz, poor guy, can't even get out there. Everyone
sucks and like you suck too much.
Speaker 7 (40:37):
You go back.
Speaker 3 (40:38):
You're the cooler of sucking. All you do is sit
next to me. And I said, I start sucking because
you're sitting next to me.
Speaker 5 (40:44):
It's frustrating.
Speaker 3 (40:45):
I don't. I don't fear them. I don't fear the dog.
Speaker 5 (40:48):
Well, thank you for telling me that with your little smile.
Speaker 3 (40:52):
Well the Mets didn't lose it. I'm feeling happy.
Speaker 4 (40:54):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (40:55):
Coming up next, Believe it or not, there's a new
highest paid player in the history of the NBA.
Speaker 2 (41:00):
I adn't tell you what it is.
