last few minutes an educating Mary on the history of
boys in the Hood, you know, because we got into it.
Speaker 3 (01:04):
Last fantastic movie absolutely.
Speaker 1 (01:06):
Somehow boys in the hood jumped in off of our
boy band a conversation.
Speaker 3 (01:10):
Uh, we started from Nicki Minaj. Oh, sorry for Nicki Minaj.
That's right, that's right, sorry for Nicki Minaj.
Speaker 1 (01:15):
Yeah. Oh and oh, by the way, we try to
do the Nicki Minaj to get to Kevin Bacon. Right,
what was the movie you told me Nicki Minaj did?
Speaker 4 (01:22):
Uh?
Speaker 3 (01:22):
She was with Cameron did with Cameron Diaz? Okay, so
Nicki mina woman? Right?
Speaker 1 (01:26):
Did the other woman with Cameron Diaz? Who did Night
and Day with Tom Cruise, who did a Few Good
Men with Tom with Kevin Bacon. So boom we get
there in four Wow, that's been fast. I think the
pole question is also up. With all respect and appreciation
of our guy, Rob Parker, we.
Speaker 5 (01:40):
Stole the the o a t so hashtag g bb
O the the Greatest boy band of All Time at
swollen no mat, how about a prescot.
Speaker 1 (01:51):
That's that's that's the boat, the boat, the the boat,
the boat boy bands of all time? But why added
the great good boat, good Boat, boy Boat, good by boat.
Speaker 3 (02:01):
Did you hear that's missus Gobble's coming?
Speaker 1 (02:04):
The goodby boat, gooble boat nicely. Don Yeah, Luca, look,
Luka Dancich has it right backtreet Boys. He went to
see them on Saturday after signing his big contract. Backstreet
Boys best boy band of all time.
Speaker 5 (02:15):
And Nick Carter has the greatest video of authenticity ever
for a guy that got an autograph card. There's like
forty people standing around watching him. He's got it in
a little case of I was like, can I get
in that? He's like, yeah, hold on, and he's like
nervously trying to uh to get this one one touch
open so he can get it signed. And he's like, well,
(02:37):
how do you want it? Like, I don't know what
the inscription said, but there.
Speaker 3 (02:40):
It is, I said, right next to him. It's all good,
right yeah.
Speaker 5 (02:44):
Uh.
Speaker 3 (02:44):
So we knew there would be some.
Speaker 1 (02:47):
Kind of reaction from Jerry Jones following me Micah Parsons
story on Friday where he says, I no longer want
to be a cowboy.
Speaker 3 (02:54):
I'm done.
Speaker 1 (02:56):
I am done being involved in meetings where my agent
thought allowed to be. I no longer want to be here.
That's been the big thing, right, I'm running away.
Speaker 3 (03:04):
You don't love me anymore. I'm taking my dinosaur toy
and I'm believing.
Speaker 1 (03:10):
So you knew there was going to be a response
from Jerry Jones, of course, who over the course of
the weekend responded in many different ways. Jerry Jones responded
in a way that where he kind of backed off
the the battle there is going on between Jerry Jones
and Michael Parsons, because Michah Parsons is very upset that
(03:31):
he feels like the Cowboys haven't talked to him about
his contract situation. They don't really want him, But so
Jerry Jones both at the same time. This is genius
by Jerry Jones. He was able to sort of back
off because when first Michaeh Parson said, I no longer
want to be here, I want a new contract Jerry Jones,
and we want to make sure a guy like that
is healthy. We just I just gave a lot of
(03:51):
money to a guy who wasn't healthy last year in
dak Prescott like you never hear Jerry Jones say that.
But over the course of the weekend he backed off
of it and said, hey, I love Mikeh. It's part
of negotiations what's going on. And Jerry Jones may have
been off more than he can chew. But we'll get
to that. But he kind of backed off a little
bit by saying, Hey, it's part of negotiations, part of
what's going on here. But he also sort of warned
(04:12):
Micah Parsons that I'm not gonna be bullied into anything here.
So it's kind of like, so he's kind of done
both things, like I am gonna I'm gonna back off
a little bit, but also let you know that you
really have to be prepared because I'm not gonna suddenly
just capitulate to your terms of Oh, you want to
get trend and I'm gonna trade you. So it's real,
it's really I mean, I gotta give Jerry before we
(04:32):
rip Jerry Jones. I got to give him credit for
being able to pull both of those things off by saying, Hey,
I'm backing off my criticism of you, but I'm also
going to warn you that it's not gonna go how
you think it's gonna go, because I will let you
sit now whether or not he does. But he found
a way to just back off. But also, hey, I'm
gonna foreshadow things for you that if you really want
to get involved, it's gonna be difficult.
Speaker 5 (04:53):
Well, what's interesting about it, you know, flowing into the
new week is like I said, you know, with in
making that allusion to everybody's kid when they're gonna I'm
running away. I'm mad you didn't make the dinner I liked,
you gave me restricted TV time or whatever it is.
I'm running away. And then there's like that little walk
to the end of the driveway and you realize how
(05:15):
big the world is. Or wait a minute, it's snack
time and there's the family member that you're fighting with
standing there with the pot of whatever it is is
your favorite, and then you come back home. Michael walked
in and he was in all meetings. He was on
the sidelines for practices, he was talking to Steve whatever else.
You know, we've seen with the rookie deal, they can
(05:35):
wave the fifty thousand dollars a day. So you're not
helping any of your I don't want to be here
thing by showing up and being active in meetings and
being on the sidelines. If you really want to make
your point, you're posting pictures from halfway around the world
watching your favorite or you're at the sphere with Luca
watching your favorite band.
Speaker 1 (05:55):
Wow Wow, bow. Now the two big things. First from Parsons, Okay,
now you've seen it. You want this trade, you really
want it, he said, you no longer want to be here.
You have to dig in if you want to get out.
You like that, right, digging to get out?
Speaker 3 (06:12):
Leave camp? Right, because he's still there. He's still there.
You can't right? Are you serious? Do you really want out?
Are you done? Leave camp?
Speaker 1 (06:19):
Leave camp and show that you can play this game too,
if you really want out, and you don't think Dallas
is gonna pay you, And there's such a bad taste
in your mouth because they only want to pay you
the deal you agreed to meet from meeting with Jerry
Jones a few months ago, which again not cool by
the Cowboys. Uh to do that, they know, we got
to go through an agent, not cool by Jerry Jones.
But you got to show you are serious. Okay, So
(06:42):
you got to dig in to get out.
Speaker 3 (06:43):
You really don't want to be there, you want out.
Speaker 1 (06:46):
Leave camp, Leave camp and say I'm not coming back
till I have a new deal, and I'll sit out.
Because Micah Parsons, no matter how long he sits out,
someone is going to trade for him and someone's going
to pay him because he's young enough with it, with
the level of talent that he's it makes no difference.
He will get a three year deal for one hundred
and forty million dollars or one hundred and fifty million dollars.
Speaker 3 (07:06):
He will get that from someone.
Speaker 1 (07:08):
He might not get more than three years because now
you're saying, Okay, here's Michael Parsons mid twenties, we'll pay
him up until he's thirty.
Speaker 3 (07:14):
He will get that deal no matter how long he
sits out.
Speaker 1 (07:16):
It's not like he's thirty thirty one, where hey, I
really don't I really want this deal.
Speaker 3 (07:20):
It's like, I'm sorry, but you're thirty one. You're not
gonna get you.
Speaker 1 (07:24):
Bring it still, conversation, Dude, you should have had a
should have had a better year when you were younger.
You should have caught thirteen touchdowns. You were twenty four,
not twenty nine. But he's gonna get it. So understand
that no matter what, no matter how long you sit out,
someone will trade for you and pay you that kind
of money. Because you are the best defensive player in
football and you are well on the right side of thirty.
(07:46):
You want that kind of cat you'll get, but you
gotta show me you're serious. You gotta say, Okay, I get,
I'm gonna leave camp and I will be back when
you have that contract for me or you trade me.
You got to ratchet that up, because Jerry Jones this
weekend backed off but warns you, Okay, no, Jerry, you
think so, you think you got this? No, I will
play this out now. Well, because that's the uncomfortable side
of it.
Speaker 5 (08:06):
You know, if you're Micah Parsons right, clearly, he wants
to be there for his teammates, for his legacy.
Speaker 3 (08:11):
You don't want to give away games, years, whatever, because
we know how short these NFL careers are.
Speaker 5 (08:17):
Right, and when we're talking about being in your final
year of a deal, remember the team, based on what's
been put into the CBA, you still have two more
years that they can make your life miserable. And I
think that's where Jerry Jones gets into this. Hey, it
can get really sticky if we really want to go
down this way because you've got the franchise tag for
two years.
Speaker 3 (08:37):
I mean, I mean, but right, but no team is
gonna do that.
Speaker 1 (08:40):
I mean, no team is going only the who is
It just the Bengals decided to do that with Carson Palm,
and they still want to trading the guy midway through
a season.
Speaker 3 (08:48):
So it's not like, hey, we'll sit here. It's not
gonna happen different. I'm not gonna do it. No, they're
not gonna do it.
Speaker 1 (08:52):
Jerry Jones is not gonna sit there and have every
day and have this Micah Parson situation hang over this
team every single days.
Speaker 5 (08:59):
Look, the big thing we're running against the clock right
because they open with the Eagles. Right.
Speaker 3 (09:03):
If I remember my schedule watching when we were predicting
all two seventy two of these glorious games to come,
is that you need him in meetings.
Speaker 5 (09:13):
Oh wait, he's going to meetings, and he's a guy
that's gonna keep himself in tip top shape.
Speaker 3 (09:20):
So you can drag this out.
Speaker 5 (09:21):
A little bit, but eventually Jerry's gonna pay him. It's
just a matter of what the dollar is. And again
you go back to Miles Garrett with Cleveland. He said
all the same things. Tyreek Hill said all the same things.
Whether they're taking time to heal and they actually I
don't know what his relationship is to Mike McDaniel. I
was trying to read through some of that nonsense and
that press conference, and Mike McDaniel's not an easy guy
(09:43):
to really determine exactly what the hell he's saying, oftentimes
speaking in riddles like today was a great day because
we're one day closer to death. He was listening to
David Gilmore and Pink Floyd. Gotta listen to the whole show,
really do. It's a rich tapestry, relieve, But for Jerry Jones,
we've seen my own again. Eventually, Mike Miles Garrett was
(10:04):
reportedly from some people it's like he already had his
new digs picked out and everything else, and then the
Brown said, Tadah, here's a giant contract, and all of
a sudden, we're going to the super Bowl. We're the
greatest team going. Watch what my defense does. I don't
think we're too far away from Micah Parsons doing that
same thing under a bunch of pomp and circumstance and
whatever his favorite band playing over in the order.
Speaker 1 (10:26):
Now for Jerry Jones, okay, Jerry Jones has made a
career of getting the deals done right.
Speaker 3 (10:33):
I get the deals done no matter what.
Speaker 1 (10:35):
And it was really fun to read today about how
Micah Parsons, I forget who it was that that said
gave the advice. Listen, let Jerry win the battle in
the media and you'll get paid, right, because that's really
what's happened, right, has been when Jerry's push this, Dak
Prescott stayed quiet, is Ekil Elliott stayed quiet, Seed he
Lamb stayed quiet. What happened? They got paid right. Give
Jerry the attention. Now, Michah Parsons is not that dude,
(10:57):
which happens right, okay, because the next general that comes
up doesn't always want to sit her and say I'm
gonna do what they.
Speaker 3 (11:03):
Did before me.
Speaker 1 (11:03):
He sees that they just paid Dak all kinds of money.
Do they have that money for me? They're not gonna
pay me. They keep going back saying they want a
deal that I agreed two months ago. That never happened
with Dak, never happened with Seed. He never happened with
Ezekiel Elliott. This is like, now they don't want to
pay me anymore. So for Jerry Jones, I get the
strategy and I understand that there was a way to
(11:26):
get this done. But if Jerry Jones loses Micah Parsons. Okay,
if he has to trade Parsons, who again, best defensive
player in the NFL. If you want to argue about
who was great when you're twenty five years old, you
play at that level, you're the guy every team would
pick to start their team with. Will give me one
defensive player anybody could pick to start their team with
in the NFL right now, they would all pick Michah Parsons, right, So,
(11:46):
best defensive player in the game. If he loses Parsons,
that absolutely kills Dallas. It kills free agents going there,
It kills the momentum for this season, It kills what
they can accomplish on the field, and all of a sudden,
Cowboys fans are gonna sit back and go, man, now,
(12:07):
I see what it's like when you can string five
to six four six win seasons along in a row.
Because all of a sudden, if this happens, this crushes
Jerry Jones and the Cowboys. Right, losing Dak Prescott would
not be as crushing as losing Micah Parsons. Because Dak Prescott, Okay,
we've seen him for the best part of his career.
He's melted down on the playoffs. If you moved on
(12:27):
a quarterback, nobody would bat and eye. Okay, we're moving on.
You went on from a guy a twenty five best
defensive player in the league. Yeah, that's gonna really open eyes.
And suddenly the destination part of the Dallas Cowboys, the
deal that Jerry Jones can always get deals done. That
infallibility goes out the window and the Cowboys sort of
become last chance for gas in the NFL. Like you
(12:49):
watch how fast the Cowboys can go from we're at
destination every year. We have enough talent to give people
hope to man, these are the dog days of August
are here, and except it's going year after year after year,
things can get really bad for the Cowboys, really fasts
if Jerry Jones loses him.
Speaker 5 (13:04):
Yeah see, I think the exact opposite is that you're
right back where you are. How many wins is Michael
Parson's worth in a year to go to brass tacks?
Speaker 1 (13:14):
If we won eight ribal legitimate, there'll be o and
seventeen with him this year, Michael, But to that point right,
because I mean TJ.
Speaker 5 (13:21):
Watts lamenting as he's signing through crocodile tiers a forty
one million dollars.
Speaker 3 (13:26):
A year deal.
Speaker 5 (13:27):
I've ever won a playoff game, that's Check's gonna click clear, right, right.
I mean, so it's a lot more wins than the
Cowboys have had. But he's been a great player, And
what does that mean in terms of the overall the
greatness of the squad? You know, it hasn't led to
deep playoff runs or success on that level at all.
(13:49):
You're a good team, and I take nothing away from
his individual greatness, but in terms of impacting wins and losses,
what's it worth to your over under With with him,
they're like forty one and twenty and without him they're
like two and four. So, I mean, obviously it's also
one of those Yeah, one of those it's fuzzy maths,
(14:11):
but I'm not But I can't sit here and blame
Micah Parsons for losing in the playoffs. I'm saying, if
if I'm going to pay a guy top of line money,
which is I think where Jerry.
Speaker 3 (14:21):
But then you're not gonna pay anybody. If you're not
gonna pay Micah.
Speaker 5 (14:24):
Parsons, Hey Ferguson thirteen million dollars year. Look, so you
should you'll pay money. You'll pay you, you'll pay for
You'll pay for the sexiness of the headlines of the offense.
You'll pay for the wide receivers and the tight ends
and the quarterback. But how about you pay for defense.
Speaker 3 (14:38):
Yeahs.
Speaker 5 (14:40):
In terms of this Napkin meeting a couple of months
ago where Micah said, Hey, I was willing to play
for less than what some of you know before these
other deals were signed.
Speaker 3 (14:49):
I want to know what that number was. I'd like
some specificits. You know, how big is that.
Speaker 5 (14:54):
It's gotta be significantly less for suddenly to turn to
turn talking you are we talking six million? Are we
talking about low thirties.
Speaker 1 (15:03):
Versus we talked about Both sides deserve blame for that,
because Michael Parsons, you gotta know, don't go into a
meeting about money.
Speaker 3 (15:10):
Let your agent, your cowboys have to note it kind
of dirty pool to do that as well.
Speaker 2 (15:14):
Well.
Speaker 5 (15:14):
But to my understanding, this is Jerry three decades, whether
you like it or not, right and the rules of
engagement change. To your point, players being smarter dealing with
this stuff earlier, you know, the above board stuff that
we see now with these nil deals and other sponsorships
and things you've been able to do. But yeah, this
is Jerry's playbook, right because originally it was term day.
(15:37):
You know, we were talking about leadership and his role
going forward to whatever else. As soon as it started
going to dollars and cents, that's it. The meeting's over.
Speaker 3 (15:44):
I'm sorry. I got a call.
Speaker 1 (15:46):
Hello, hello, agent, Hey, ma, I got I got a
nine to seventeen meeting. I have to attend them, so
I gotta get out. I'll come back, though Jerry's talking,
I'll be.
Speaker 3 (15:57):
Back, both sides. But still, the fact that the fact that.
Speaker 1 (16:01):
Here's Michael Parsons saying I deserve more money, which clearly
he does if it's way less than what these guys
are getting, and for the cowboys to say, no, that's
the deal we want because you agreed to it. You know,
you took advantage of the guy, right, not not having
his agent in the room. You understand that it's not
like suddenly he just he's come. I said, listen, let's
sign right now. I got it done right here, We're
(16:21):
all good to go. Now. You know you took advantage
of him a little bit, right. So while it's Michaeh
Parson's fault. Yeah, you kind of took advantage of him,
but you got to understand. Okay, so you thought you're
getting me in a discount. Why didn't you sign the deal?
Then all of a sudden when the agent called, you
didn't want to do it anymore. Well, when the agent
called you, listen, figure things out. This is what we
want to do, there said for his good. So the
math suddenly changed. At least I got three percent. But yeah,
(16:45):
to your point, it's it's the all right, where's that gap?
How long was that gap before?
Speaker 5 (16:50):
Hey, my agent, my people won't call your people and
we'll hammer out final details. Or did this linger for
a couple of months in the when he talked to
his age and he said, no, no, no, we got
to see what these other guys are doing. Then Henderson's
still floating out in no man's land. Uh so you
so you've got that still hanging in the balance. Are
you trying to wait that out before you come back
with a you know, in earnest uh an earnest kind
(17:12):
of evaluation of what you are in the market.
Speaker 3 (17:15):
Haven, I'm here to evaluate, but you know what I mean, likesity,
We know where where that nebulous space is and certainly
for Jerry to be like, you know what, I've been.
Speaker 5 (17:26):
Burned a bunch. I've been doing this a long time.
I've burned, you know, certainly sins to myself. That's like,
you know, you still have one year left on a deal.
I don't have to pay you now, right, I mean
because that in the end, when when when all all
decks are played, that's still the the trump card of
it all. It's like, you have one year left on
a deal. I don't have to give you another dime. Now, Hey, Vern,
(17:50):
how you doing? I mean here in earnest artist goes
to Cowboys camp. That could have been the last movie.
Artist goes to Cowboys camp Haven. But I said to
the Clinton mikeah PARSI here from Michael Parton as the
coach for Cowboys Fantasy came. I want to tell you,
Michael parts is really good.
Speaker 1 (18:05):
Vern. You know, Vern, I'm gonna go talk to that.
Jerry Jones get a big contract from Michael Parsons. Vern. Hey,
he went in without me as his agent. So I'm
gonna walk in and say, hey, hey, Vern, Hey, I'm here.
Speaker 5 (18:15):
Most Jim Varney got hey, Vern, I a non toy
story related exit Out'm out a Fresco exit swallowed dome,
but true. If Jerry Jones loses Micah Parsons, this is
the beginning of a dark age for the Dallas Cowboys.
Speaker 3 (18:29):
Trust me.
Speaker 1 (18:30):
Coming up next is one of the best players in

Fox Sports Radio, the Jason Smith Show with my best
friend Mike Harmon. Yes, right, so, uh, you know we
got a trivia every week. Yeah, and we lost last
night by a point, by a point. It was a
ridiculously ridiculous last question, but I'll tell you. I'll tell
you because it gets to rent out Chili Peppers. So
(20:19):
the last question we lost.
Speaker 3 (20:21):
By a point.
Speaker 1 (20:22):
Nobody got it right was this is the only Oscar
winner whose parents were Oscar winners.
Speaker 3 (20:29):
Jamie Lee Curtis.
Speaker 1 (20:30):
We were like, we thought Jamie Lee Curtis were like, okay,
but did Tony Curtis when we win for some leight
get hot?
Speaker 3 (20:36):
I don't know.
Speaker 1 (20:36):
I don't but I don't think her mom won for anything.
So no, no Isabella Rossellini. Oh, okay, so she won
for blue velvet. Obviously her mom won Ingrid Bergmann Roberto
Rossellini director probably won at some point. So we said,
it is Bella Rossellini and one of the one of
our one of our teammates, our table, our friend Dawn says,
(20:57):
what about Liza Minelli. We're well, Judy Garland never won
an oscar like and and and I don't know did
Judy Garlands? Did her dad win an oscar? I don't know,
but Judy Garland never won an oscar? Okay, So it
comes to the end. The answer is Judy Garland. And
I'm like, We're like, what did she win for? And
and and the and and the host says she won
(21:19):
an oscar that no longer exists. She won for best
Juvenile perform like a juvenile award, like, so the answer,
and I said, so, the answer is an oscar that
hasn't been awarded in seventy years, Like what kind of
question is that?
Speaker 3 (21:33):
Like what kind of questions like you want to be
able to host right, you want to be able to
have at the.
Speaker 1 (21:38):
End or trivia question like Okay, if you don't know
the answer, you can kind of parse it out and go, okay,
well maybe it's as maybe it's but like maybe because
like Isabella Rosselini, right, Okay, she went, she turned out
not winning for blue Velvet, but we thought she did.
I'm not saying we got it right, but I'm like,
you want to be able to figure out by saying, Okay,
we think she won for this, but you're gonna tell
me that she won as a for a juvenile oscar.
I'm like, are you kidding with that question? Like that's
(22:00):
not something you can figure that's just something really obscure
that nobody knows. And I think her dad want to
win an honorary oscar. I like, those aren't real oscars,
not real oscars, you know what, it's an honorary doctorate.
Come on, man, no just donating money on your behalf.
Come on, come on, no, but the big one, because
(22:20):
there were two big ones that I got right, Uh
that like nobody else in the team got last night
it was.
Speaker 3 (22:25):
And the first one was obviously the sports one. They
look at you and go here you go Sports.
Speaker 5 (22:28):
Wait, I had the last one for Pollyanna Hayley Mills
was the last oscar in nineteen sixty There you go,
so so sixty years sixty plus years, are right? Really
that was the last really put a bow on that house.
So the sports one.
Speaker 3 (22:42):
So the sports one was.
Speaker 1 (22:44):
This band formed in Los Angeles in nineteen eighty two,
was the last band performed, was the last group to
perform at the end of the Paris Olympics, as the
torch was passed to Los Angeles for twenty twenty.
Speaker 3 (22:56):
And I said, read out Chili Peppers and and Pama goes. No,
wasn't it metallic? I'm Metalligan didn't perform to talk. It's
readout Chili Peppers. They were on the beach.
Speaker 1 (23:03):
Anthony Keat has had the really bad mustache. They did
my favorite, readout chili peppers. So they did can't stop
and still I know all this and this is the
most frustrated part of the rest of the team was Yeah,
I don't know.
Speaker 2 (23:14):
What do you mean?
Speaker 3 (23:14):
You don't know? I'm telling you I know the answer.
Speaker 2 (23:18):
The whole day.
Speaker 5 (23:19):
Yeah, but could it be something else. I'm like, I'm
telling you because the whole time I was sitting there
going so nice, so night, so mad. Sorry, I'm the
chili pepper. Is the best part of that song is
the beginning. Oh, the guitars, favorite guitars. I'm Barren.
Speaker 3 (23:34):
That's great. Open.
Speaker 1 (23:35):
So the other question we got, and this is weird
because I kind of came around to it, was it
was okay, Dave Grohl has won Grammys as a musician
in what three bands? And I was like, oh, okay,
And then so I said okay, obviously, and everybody's okay,
Nirvana and uh and Food Fighters. I said, you know what,
he was in a super group, and I'm telling me
(23:56):
he was in it with guys from Queens of the
Stone Age and some other bands. But I don't remember
the names well, right, And that's what I was thinking of,
But I can't think of the name of it. I
can't think of the name of it. I go and
I couldn't think of them Crooked Faultures. But it's got
to be something something like Queens of the Stone Age
because he was in the band with those guys and
other bands, but I can't think of it, and the
time ran out. I go just right down Queens of
the Stone Age. It's not right, and the guy says, okay, hey,
(24:19):
and we got a team that got this right. Uh,
and I'm going, oh, great, they got they got the
name right. And I couldn't think and he goes uh
and it was it was Nirvana and Food Fighters and
Queens of the Stone Age and everybody goes oh. I
was like, yeah, I got it, even though I thought
I got it wrong.
Speaker 3 (24:34):
Well, there was a time where he was kind of floating,
but yeah, and trying.
Speaker 5 (24:40):
To figure out next, you know, I was like yeah,
and like, oh okay the drummer and backbeatn like there's there's.
Speaker 3 (24:47):
All sorts of yeah extras. The other big sports one
my dad got. We we both got it.
Speaker 1 (24:52):
It was and as soon as they said okay, the
Saint Louis Browns, which uh played baseball up until nineteen
fifty four, he moved to become what team And Pam
just hands the because she writes down the answers, she
just hands the paper to me and my dad and
we're going, oh wow, So that's what I mean by pressure.
That's kind of a just take you right here. We're like, okay,
the Orioles, right, We're like, yes, the Orioles, like okay,
(25:14):
it's nobody else. He didn't go anywhere before that, because
that's what we thought of. Maybe did they go someplace
before and then they.
Speaker 3 (25:19):
Became the orders. Yeah, so we're writing down all the teams.
Speaker 1 (25:22):
Everybody said Baltimore Oriols were like okay, And I said, Dad,
if this is wrong, I'm blaming you.
Speaker 3 (25:25):
He was, You're the he's talking, You're it's in your handwriting. Well, yeah,
we have the arts we do. Uh so that's great.
Oh yeah that was Ings of the Stone Age. U.
Speaker 1 (25:35):
I was like, it's something like Queens of the Stone Age,
but I can't out it's Queens of the Stone Age.
Speaker 2 (25:41):
I do like that.
Speaker 3 (25:42):
You got to the Josh Homie and Dave Groll supergrouped. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
that's what I thought it was.
Speaker 1 (25:49):
That's what I was thinking, like, oh, with a couple
of guys, I'm going Outs of.
Speaker 5 (25:52):
The Stone Age and we bring my guy laying again. Yeah, well,
just write down Queens of the Stone Age.
Speaker 3 (25:56):
Just write it down.
Speaker 1 (25:57):
So apparently, if if you listen to Shams a lot
from ESPN JEMs many teams around the NBA are waiting
for Yannis to say he wants out right. Shamseroni on
ESPN earlier today said that there are multiple teams I
know of that are literally waiting right now on what
(26:19):
decision Jannis makes, waiting to see does he actually hit
the market. Training camps don't start till mid September. He
went on to say that examples in the past of
guys changing teams in August September, Kyrie Irving got traded
to the Celtics in August. Damian Lillard actually got Delta
Milwaukee in September. So, hey, Yannis is still making up
his mind. Now, I realize that this is something we've
(26:39):
heard now one hundred times. Jannis is making up his mind. Yes,
and eventually he's going to be right.
Speaker 3 (26:44):
Eventually a broken clock is right twice to day, I
get it, but eventually he's right. Eventually he's right right.
Then he had that appearance this.
Speaker 1 (26:51):
Weekend National Sports could be where someone said, when I
do this for the rest of my career, and someone
yelled out, all Milwaukee right, and he'd wink designs at
all in no wah, I can't wink.
Speaker 3 (27:02):
I just watch. I can wait better. I can win
better with my left eye than my right eye. Okay,
whenever you look painful.
Speaker 1 (27:08):
You know, whenever we played drug deal that game around
the cars, I was always I always had to work
with my left eye because like my right eye, you
would see it.
Speaker 3 (27:15):
I have no idea what the hell are you're talking about?
You know, used a whole other world.
Speaker 1 (27:19):
Whenever we played the game, you know, sometimes the deal
sometimes I've learned it as drug deal in in in school.
But call aces and queens different things. Cop, uh, cop,
bad cop, cop, Queen queen cop? Like because the Queen
Queen of Hearts?
Speaker 5 (27:34):
Is that because you were walking around like you know,
channel and you're inner bad lieutenant.
Speaker 3 (27:37):
Yeah, that's blew that game.
Speaker 1 (27:39):
It's it's a game that involve everybody looks at a
card and if you're the the Queen of Hearts, if
you're the Ace of Spades, you have to wink at
somebody and and you wink at somebody and that person
says the deal has been made. And then at that
point the Queen of Hearts turns the card over and
they have to figure out who the who the drug
dealer is it's the Ace of Spades, and.
Speaker 5 (27:57):
Someone have to learn the cords to players spending now
and that's how it goes.
Speaker 1 (28:05):
And now, if you have enough people in it, the
Queen of Diamonds is along for the ride. They can't
say anything. Oh right, so that's all so anyway, But anyway,
so eventually you know Jannis, Yes, everybody's waiting to see
what Yannis is going to do.
Speaker 3 (28:17):
Now.
Speaker 1 (28:18):
I just want to see this because I eventually Yannis
is going to realize that he needs to get out
of Milwaukee.
Speaker 3 (28:22):
I want to say, dude, what are you waiting for? Man,
what you thought?
Speaker 1 (28:26):
They've tried to remake this team to the best of
their ability since you won the title. Every year it
just gets worse. You can't get out of the first round.
You thought Damian Lillard was the move, great, right, Hey,
Damion was the right move, right move to make? It
didn't work out, So now you're moving on. So now
what was the big move? Miles Turner? Wait so wait,
so replacing Damian Lillard with Miles Turner that's the championship move.
(28:50):
I get the teams in the East more took a
step back and stayed the same right because the Celtics
took a huge step back, losing Jason Tatum for all
the next year. The Pacers the same way, no Hall
for all next year. The Knicks decided, we're standing pat.
Speaker 3 (29:03):
We're not.
Speaker 1 (29:03):
We're you know, we got some depth signings, but we're
standing pat because we saw what happened to everybody else
in the in the East. So I understand that. But
at the same time, it's like, Okay, Miles Turner is
not gonna get you over the top. Like I don't
know what Giannis is waiting for. We talk about what
needing to be the bad guy. He's got to be
the one to say he wants out. He's got to
be able to be okay with doing it because he's
(29:23):
thirty years old. You know how much longer he is
it going to be a dominant player. Probably not much longer.
Big guys breakdown. Ear we know this, and Giannis is
not lebron So what does he have maybe three four
years left to run the floor the way he does.
He's got to get someplace else that is more built
to win a championship. And I'm sorry, Milwaukee is not
a team that is built to multiple years contend to
(29:44):
win championships. They're just not They got lucky with Giannis
and the and the lottery, they were able to build
around them. It happened, but now it's not getting any better.
What magically happened makes you think next year is gonna
be better than this year? Like, if you're Yannis, what
are you waiting for? Like, I don't know what you
went It's time to say I want out. I don't
know what he's waiting for.
Speaker 2 (30:03):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (30:03):
I love the discussion about it.
Speaker 5 (30:04):
It was about his autograph and how short it got
because if you go back and look at twenty thirteen
rookie cards, you got most of the antenna koopo. I mean,
you got a lot of characters. Now you don't get
much of that when he signs. Look at the starting
lineup for this year as projected right now, Kevin Border junior,
who was almost out of the league and had to
fight back.
Speaker 3 (30:22):
He's had some issues.
Speaker 5 (30:23):
You got Gary Trenton Junior, Kyle Kuzma, and Miles Turner
around him. You lost Lillard obviously he's gone. Brook Lopez
is gone. So yes, you get a little bit younger,
but you have enough depth the rest of the East.
To your point, you got injured guys. Tyre's Halliburton's biggest
play this year was when John Cena went and stole
his crutch this weekend at Summer Slam.
Speaker 3 (30:47):
It did in the middle of the Madge against Tony Rhoades.
He had away with the crutch. Yah, Ded, you sent
me that picture. It's like it's got a big deal.
So you got that going on.
Speaker 5 (30:56):
But other than that, you're looking at Okay, he's a
big guy, plays a lot of defense. I saw the
stat it's pretty crazy. He's about he's eighty two steals
away from being the second guy in league history to
own all of like the major categories for a team,
Kevin Garnett being the other in Minnesota. So you got
longevity and all of that. And maybe he's just a
(31:18):
guy that decides I want to be a one team guy.
But he's also got to reconcile that does not mean
I'm winning another title. Like there's no magic you know,
this is not Felix the cat in a magic bag
where suddenly you're gonna find, you know, a seven foot
or to help rim and protect and score eighteen a game.
Speaker 3 (31:36):
You do not have depth on this squad to go
and make a run. Are you a playoff team? Sure?
Probably fringe. Maybe with the East and.
Speaker 5 (31:44):
Those injuries that you laid out, maybe you've got an
opportunity to be in that four or five seed again.
Speaker 3 (31:49):
But are you gonna be good enough to go win
a series?
Speaker 1 (31:52):
No?
Speaker 3 (31:52):
Undoubtedly.
Speaker 5 (31:53):
No.
Speaker 1 (31:54):
No, it's not even to the point where, Okay, I
think I can see where things could get bet like
Howard things getting.
Speaker 3 (32:01):
You're not getting anybody. Nobody else is gonna go there,
and you're gonna be just right, and you're gonna be
just good enough to where you never bought him out.
I'll tell you, I don't know what he's waiting for.
Speaker 1 (32:10):
I don't know what he's waiting for, because he's he
doesn't want to be the bad guy exit out about
a Fresco exit swollen dome. Jason Smith, Mike Harmon Time
not to find out what's trending in the wide world
of sports. Someone who's been called the Giannis Antokumpo of
Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 3 (32:26):
Sometimes I don't know what he's waiting for either. It's
Steve to say that hardest spell now that's a little longer.
Speaker 6 (32:32):
Actually, everything final in Major League Baseball tonight, as the
Cardinals has scored a run in the ninth to beat
the Dodgers in LA three to two, but the Padres
did lose six to two at Arizona. Padres is still
three games back at first place LA and the NL West.
The Dodger offense first seven innings tonight went one for
twenty two. Max Munsey did return, started at thirty, went
(32:53):
oh for three.
Speaker 1 (32:54):
With a walk.
Speaker 6 (32:54):
Tommy Edmund goes on the IL for the Dodgers. Mookie
Bets ozho for four, betting two thirty one. Two great
starting pitching efforts. Sonny Gray seven innings, eight strikeouts for
the Cards. Tyler glass Now seven innings, seven strikeouts for
the Dodgers.
Speaker 3 (33:10):
No decisions. You're a home run to the leadoff battern.
That's it.
Speaker 2 (33:13):
That was it.
Speaker 6 (33:13):
That's it for glass Now and the first seven innings,
the Dodgers had a Freeman home run and that was
literally their only hit for seven frames. Angels beat Tampa
Bay five to one. Toronto first place in the AL East,
still three games up on Boston. Blue Jays were up
nine to nothing at Colorado in the third inning.
Speaker 3 (33:30):
Fifteen to won the final.
Speaker 6 (33:32):
Bo Bishett two homer six RBIs the win to Eric
Lowers seven and two. Toronto's offense twenty five for fifty
at the plate. Tonight, Boston won at sixth straight game,
eight five over Kansas City. It was an eight to
one league going to the eighth. Brian Bayo got the win,
six innings, no earned runs. And then there's the Yankees.
The third place Yankees now five and a half back
(33:53):
in the division, blowing one at Texas ten innings, eight
five Rangers the final on a three run homer from
Josh Young. Pinch hitter Jock Peterson Tita with a solo
homer bottom of the ninth offt closer Devin Williams. Max
Freed has started, no decision, He went five innings, the
first four runs allowed. Milwaukee won, Cubs lost, Matt's lost,
(34:14):
Phillies won. Phillies hit six homers in a thirteen to
three win against Baltimore. Kyle Schwarber with two more homers.
He has forty. Texas and Ohio State are one two
in the preseason college football coaches pull. The Spurs gave
Dearon Fox a four year MAX extension were two hundred
and twenty nine million dollars. The WNBA was off Minnesota
All Star and DEFEASTA. Collier will miss at least two
(34:36):
weeks with a sprained ankle, and the Connecticut Son will
be sold for over three hundred million dollars pending approval,
and moved to Boston in a couple of years. The
price would be a record for a women's sports franchise.
Speaker 1 (34:47):
Back to you, Thank you, Steve. On The Jason Smith
Show with My best friend Mike Harmon. Coming up next,
the silliest and most fun quarterback story in the NFL.
This summer just got sillier and more fun. That's next
right here, Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 2 (35:01):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern seven
pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app
Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 3 (35:13):
The Jason Smith Show with My best Friend Mike Harmon. Yah,
it was just last week where he gave it the
big hot take.
Speaker 1 (35:22):
Browns are gonna start all four quarterbacks at some point
this season, all four, because yeah, you have to. Flacco
will start to start the season. You'll be in effective
at some point. They're gonna want to see what they
have in the other guys because it's gonna be a
lost season. Kenny Pigott will get a couple of games,
but you know he stinks, and then they're gonna want
to see what the rookies have, So Gabriel will get
(35:43):
a game or two shot or Sanders will get a
couple of games.
Speaker 5 (35:46):
The all four are gonna go all those attempts. You
didn't even get me a Gabriel. You'll see what's in
his eyes, the light.
Speaker 1 (35:54):
And the heat, the interceptions, that's what's in and uh,
you know, we made a big fun thing last week
saying it's kind of like Fantastic four.
Speaker 3 (36:01):
They're all gonna start fantastic right.
Speaker 1 (36:04):
The Flacco is read Richard's Shodor is Johnny Storm, Gabriel's
the invisible girl because you forget he's around too soon anyway,
Like yeah, but you know after seeing the movie, you know, boy,
how a they gonna get to Franklin.
Speaker 3 (36:18):
Were like, you know, I want to get to one more? Right,
one more? How are you gonna get one more? It's
not gonna happen. You got four guys. Oh no, no,
just wait till today. Because now with.
Speaker 1 (36:29):
Dylan Gabriel getting dinged up a little bit of practice
and Kenny Pickett still hasn't returned from his injury as
amstring injury or in the twenty sixth I think is
when he got hurt. Of July, Shodor Sanders was out
with a sore arm that he did come back today,
but you have sore shoulder going on there. They got
a joint practice on Wednesday, and then their first game
(36:52):
is Friday, so you need somebody else to throw. You
only have two quarterback. The Browns go out and get
Tyler Huntley Friday.
Speaker 5 (36:59):
They got Franklin in Franklin's in Fantastic five.
Speaker 1 (37:04):
Now we could see five guys start a game started
before in the NFL. If these guys are hurt ineffective,
they could get.
Speaker 5 (37:09):
Five Galactus or King Kong Bundi in the five count
Oh oh Galactus, Well yeah, Galactus, Galactus gla they real
they kind of they kind of short changed Galactus, and uh,
I don't know the comics well enough, Galactus was way
more powerful than than Won, Like Galactus was it the guy.
Speaker 2 (37:32):
Would eat world.
Speaker 3 (37:33):
Yeah, he's an eater of world. He's he's DJ not
just Jimmy, but Galactus eat world. He got stuck in
the middle.
Speaker 1 (37:42):
Uh, I mean real Galactus was like he was he was,
he was the most powerful, scary ass guy. And then
the silver surfless Harold, the Silver surferss Harold, but he
kind of got a kind of got a short tript
there a little bit in the fantastic. But now we
can have five because because now clearly Tyler Huntley is Franklin.
Let's get those five. Tyler Hartley is Franklin.
Speaker 2 (38:02):
We got them all there.
Speaker 3 (38:03):
Now it all works, Franklin. You're what I mean, what
an absolute mess that this story is.
Speaker 1 (38:09):
This is the every day the Browns quarterback situation is
one of the two biggest stories in training camp because
it's usually it's usually one of three, because it's usually
the Browns quarterback situation, Aaron Rodgers or Ce Dealer's torts, whatever.
The big story of the day is, whether it's Matthew
Stafford sitting out, Micah Parsons justin fields, whatever it is.
(38:32):
You hit that rotating third story there. But always the
Browns quarterback is the big deal because of Shador Sanders.
And now it's got even more ridiculous with a fifth
quarterback they have to bring in because you gotta give
a guy some reps. It's really amazing, just trying to
have enough warm bodies. I mean, because you're still early
(38:53):
ish in camp. Oh it's early days, man, We're still
in early days. Yes of camp. We're only a little
over week in. Everybody's supposed to still be feeling fairly
fresh out there. Not too many fights. We've had a couple,
but most of that is still bubbling under the surface.
We'll start getting some of these teams interacting to where
(39:14):
we start to see a little more.
Speaker 3 (39:16):
Let the hate out, all of those kind of things.
Speaker 5 (39:20):
But this quarterbacking position, and look, Joe Flatt goes over
there in bubble wrap, so he doesn't really count. Right.
You do have one guy that you could trot out
known quantity professional, but you're choosing not to why because
he's just there because he fits the suit, right, You
want to find out about the rest of these guys,
Kenny Pickett, was it just the Steelers didn't know.
Speaker 3 (39:41):
What to do with the quarterback?
Speaker 5 (39:43):
Which you could say, yes, yes, that's true, but here's
your opportunity and then get Gabriel and Sdor Sanders.
Speaker 3 (39:49):
I got joked about it earlier.
Speaker 5 (39:51):
Kurt Benker, who played with the Packers, who was in
the NFL for a cup of coffee. Now that evaluator
and has his book that you can buy about quarterbacking.
He goes, yeah, when they had the sitting out because
of a sore shoulder, it's usually the next path to
being the guy traded.
Speaker 3 (40:09):
So head's funny, right, but now follow me on this
five pound now.
Speaker 1 (40:12):
Right, So Flacco, if things go like that, Flacco could
start the season, yeah, not be very good, right, And
Picket might not be healthy. Gabriel and Sanders might not
be ready to be put in because you want to
give them more time to learn what NFL life is
like and prepared during the week. So Huntley would then
go in, probably be terrible, because Huntley's been terrible every
time they've given a chance to start.
Speaker 3 (40:33):
Get curious offense at all.
Speaker 1 (40:35):
So now you're one and seven, it's like, okay, now
Kenny Pickett is finally healthy. Kenny will play, but he'll stink.
There'll be one and eleven and then it's like, well,
now we go to Gabriel and Sanders. So now you
really could get all five guys starting all I could
see it. That's how ridiculously fantastic five Franklin is here, man.
Speaker 3 (40:54):
We got Franklin. This is really a disaster waiting DJ.
Just like in the Rest development, Franklin comes alive and
he could wind up playing here in the NFL. I mean,
just think about it, man. Franklin comes alive. Brampton comes alive.
