Mike and I love putting this content out for you
every single night, and clearly no bigger story right now
in the NFL tonight than what we saw with Anthony
Richardson as the Colts uh quarterback derby, maybe at an

(01:14):
end before it's really had a chance to begin.

Speaker 3 (01:16):
No, that's just it. We really didn't even get to
see it blossom. A lot of players missing from that
starting eleven and now, uh, well, the battle that we
really were hoping to see waged for Shane Steichen may
may not get to that truition and that might be
one off the board because we don't have many quarterback
battles anymore. We don't get it. You've got ninety seven

(01:38):
guys in Cleveland and you got this one.

Speaker 1 (01:40):
Yeah. Yeah, I thought you're right there giving a very
special Blossom line on a very.

Speaker 3 (01:44):
Well, you know, I had something. The Bicycle Man episode
showed up in my Twitter timeline, the old Different Strokes.

Speaker 1 (01:51):
Oh dude, that was a bad one. Yeah, but people
bring that one up. That's an awful one.

Speaker 3 (01:55):
Yeah. And the Blossom ones were all positive.

Speaker 1 (01:58):
No, but I don't know. I never watched Blossom.

Speaker 3 (02:00):
Every one of them was. They didn't like the after
school specially you didn't watch at three point thirty because
you had practice, or you were gonna watch the Cubs
or oh no, maybe your mom made you watch a
soap opera instead I did see one.

Speaker 1 (02:11):
Yeah. Next, on a very special Blossom, Joey Lawrence sings
nothing my Love can't fix for you baby. Oh, I'm
positive of this.

Speaker 3 (02:21):
I'll tell you. Oh, do they ever sell that auction?
The bowl they used when they cut his hair? E?

Speaker 1 (02:29):
That is you know, there's a few songs in my
life where I'm like not embarrassed to admit that I
listened to all the time that I love, But that's
one of them. Nothing I Love can't fix by Joey Lawrence.
I love that skater boy, love that pet shot boys.
What have I done to deserve this? Yeah? All these songs,
all these big pop, sugary bubble gum hits, I love
all three. I love all those songs.

Speaker 3 (02:49):
Three songs that have never appeared on my car.

Speaker 1 (02:53):
I'm positive of this. I'll tell you to Joey. Oh yeah,
ty Shirt found Joey Lawrence.

Speaker 3 (02:58):
Fast whoa whoa?

Speaker 1 (03:02):
You want to do that again?

Speaker 4 (03:03):
No, I think Joey Lawrence found him. Oh, come on,
Joey Lawrence talented dude, man, he was utar TV star
was in the news this week Star.

Speaker 3 (03:18):
He was suggesting that they should do an AI version
of Robin Williams to remake.

Speaker 1 (03:24):
Wow, I don't know what the star wow. No, he
was a star man. You're going back to the early
two thousands. He was a star.

Speaker 3 (03:31):
Hey, Lawrence brothers had their run before the joe Bros.

Speaker 1 (03:34):
Wait a minute, TuS you just getting the best part
and neither. My love can't fixed for your babe.

Speaker 3 (03:38):
WHOA? Alright, I'm going home and the good folks as
part of the YouTube channel Jason Smith Show, are getting
Jason dancing right now, radio audience, I've hurt your eyes.

Speaker 1 (03:53):
There's nothing my love can't fixed for your babe.

Speaker 2 (03:56):
WHOA.

Speaker 1 (03:58):
Daniel Jones is gonna win the battle. So yeah, oh
there you go. Ty Shirt's done with Joey Lawrence. There's
nothing I love I like. That's how the song ends
with him just a cappella. There's nothing my love can't
fix how the song ends, just like that. Yeah, if
Joey Lawrence were to be an NFL player, okay, genty
oh you were just goodness. I'm not killing him his

(04:25):
yards are you're killing your father, Larry. Uh So we'll
have more. But tonight we may have seen the beginning.
In the end of the Great Indianapolis Colts quarterback Derby
because Anthony Richardson left tonight's game early in the first

(04:46):
quarter after suffering a dislocated pinky on his throwing hand.
If you've seen the video, you've seen the screen grabs,
you can see he's holding his hand up and his
pinky is sticking out at an angle that you know
pinkies don't normally stick out at.

Speaker 5 (04:57):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (04:58):
He left the game right away. He was ruled. It
is not known how much long he's got, how much
longer he's going to be out after this, but he
and Daniel Jones neck and neck at the quarterback competition
in Indianapolis, and now Anthony Richardson, who has trouble staying healthy,
is hurt again. Here's how that play sounded on the
Colts television network. Anthony Richardson goes out of the gun

(05:19):
ball in the here.

Speaker 2 (05:19):
Hash backs to throw and he is deck from the
left and he is sacked and buried. He took a big.

Speaker 6 (05:26):
Time hit, but more importantly, hangs on to the football
and the ravens with a sack off the left edge and.

Speaker 1 (05:33):
He's going off the field. Matt. He got hit unobated.
There was no one blocking the slat of protection was
totally not there. It's broke, it's broke, broke. It's a
miracle only his finger got hurt because he gets absolutely
obliterated by David Ajabo, who last seeing a couple of
years ago lighting up running backs for Michigan. He comes

(05:54):
in unblocked and he just drills Richardson who never saw
him coming. So part of you you could say, well, yeah,
dislocated Piggy. Not a season ending thing. Maybe it's a
couple week thing, but that could be enough for him
to cost him the starting job. But it's really amazing
that he didn't get hit worse and nothing worse happening,
because this is one of those hits where the rest
of his life a job. I was gonna say, Man,

(06:16):
I remember that time when I just ran and unblocked
on Richardson in that preseason game. Man, I think about
that every day. I think about the hit on that
guy every single day like that. Like that's what defensive
players dream about, is a situation like that where you
go in unblocked.

Speaker 3 (06:31):
No, and that's it. He got to walk right in
and laid the wood to him, all right, And they
were asking van Ney on the sideline, you know, what
do you think of that? And he goes, well, hope
hopefully he's okay, you know, But as a defender, I mean,
that's that's what you hope, right, that you can get
a clean look and a clean opportunity to go in
and make a clean hit on the quarterback. And then

(06:53):
it becomes the question of protections and there's a lot
of debate going on about that.

Speaker 1 (06:59):
Well, and I will say this right because I told
you that we talked about this the other night, Daniel
Jones was is was going to wind up winning this
job anyway, because when I heard Shane Steiken talk earlier
this week and say, what they're looking for is someone
that can move the football, not make mistakes, be able
to not turn the ball over, and be in charge

(07:22):
of all situations, be the field general. Like none of
that has been Anthony Richardson, right. The guy's had trouble
staying on the field. He takes a lot of risk
with the football because he hasn't played a lot of football. Now,
Daniel Jones ain't a world beater, but I've seen Daniel
Jones run an offense with some talent around him and
do somewhat well with it, and He's got a lot
of talent around him in Indianapolis, right, He's got he's

(07:45):
got a top three running back in the NFL, he's
got four really good receivers, got a brand new tight
end that could be an absolute superstar. Had a big
night tonight as well. So yeah, he's got They got
it in a position. He's in a position to succeed
with the Colts. And if that's what Jane Steiken is
looking for, and he says that this is what we're
looking for, all of that screams Daniel Jones. This is
not we got to get the guy with the most

(08:06):
talent out there. We need big playmaking ability at the
quarterback position, because then he'd be talking about Richardson, right,
But this is clearly it's a quarterback he inherited, and
he's had trouble staying on the field, and he's had
trouble staying consistent when he is on the field. So
from that, yes, I expected Daniel Jones to win the
job anyway. Now, the other part of this is that

(08:26):
this is an absolutely unforgivable mistake by Shane Steiken. And really,
I I don't know that you can't wake up tomorrow
and go, is this guy really up to being a
head coach in the NFL? Is the job too much
for him? Because this is a quarterback derby, And whatever
you think about Anthony Richardson, he's still somebody that the
team invested a lot in. Either he or Daniel Jones

(08:48):
is going to be the starting quarterback right early in
the season. Starting quarterback right you can see a lot
during practice. You know who you're gonna wind up getting.
Who the players are gonna gravitate towards who they're gonna follow.
You see all that Richardson was starting tonight, was gonna
play most of the first half. Daniel Jones gonna start
first game or start game two, play most of the

(09:09):
first half. Again, that'll be a big evaluation time for
those two preseason games. How do you come into tonight
and you decide to hold out three of your offensive line?
Three starting members of your offensive line include a couple
of really good ones, and you put Anthony Richardson out
there behind a subpar offensive line that it's the first

(09:30):
preseason game where there's still a lot of bugs to
work out and kinks to work out, and you're like, okay,
you're wondering about the protection call or the play call,
and you saw a jabo who went in unblocked. Somebody
missed an assignment somewhere. Now I don't know if it
was an assignment that was missed because a tackle missed it,
the right tackle missed it. But you held out your
left hack or your right tackle in a guard. What

(09:50):
are you doing? What do you do? How do you
do that to your potentially your franchise player and a
guy who plays the most important position. Not that it
matters if it's Richardson or Daniel Jones, it's still your
starting quarterback is out there, and you decide, yeah, we're
gonna start them, and we're gonna put them behind a
subpar offensive line in game one where hey, there's gonna
be mistakes ironed out. What are you doing?

Speaker 4 (10:12):
Like?

Speaker 1 (10:13):
Who thought? How did that get yet? Run up the
flag pole and everybody signed out, yep, great, great, we'll
hold our guys out. Great, Because if you want to
hold the offensive lineman out, I get it, Like I understand,
we don't do it hold your quarterbacks out too. Yeah,
this is where you got This is where you start
your third string quarterback or you have a couple of
guys that are three and four? Who are we keeping
out of there? If you're not gonna start your your

(10:34):
starters on the offensive line, why are you putting your
quarterbacks out there? The Steelers aren't gonna say Aaron Rodgers
is going out there behind uh three backups on the
offensive line. Then no team is doing that. No team's
putting their starting quarterback out there behind three backups on
the offensive line for the first game.

Speaker 3 (10:50):
Well, I can tell you this, They're gonna do it
again next week. Stiker after the game, indie star coming
from I wanted to say, big old Nate Newton is
a Nat Newell and Nate Newton and Nate Adkins. That Newell,
Nate Adkins, Nate Nate getting after it talking about it.
So Kurt Warner took to the analysis saying, hey, that's

(11:13):
uh the you gotta have the pressure plan. You got
the lineman sliding left. You've got the quarterbacks going to
be responsible for the backer because the offensive tackle did
what he was supposed to do, so he's got to
see it and dish it to the running backer tight
end who both went out into pass routes. Right, So
the idea of well, could Warren or Giddons, the running back,

(11:34):
have chipped a jabo as he came by. Stiken said, no, no, no,
that's the hot size five man protection. That wasn't the
protection that was called so and Richardson readily acknowledge. I've
got to be able to read that earlier. Get to
the hot read and get it out. But also in
addressing the question about the offensive line, Steiken said, well,

(11:58):
this week we'll go live in practice against the Packers,
and I would expect the same thing happens when we
play our second game, that these guys will not play. Yeah,
I mean, I mean because look, over the course of
the year, you're gonna go through a lot of combinations
and offensive line, but.

Speaker 1 (12:13):
But not the first game where you're where you're still
trying to figure stuff out, like this is where Okay,
so the first game we're gonna have three new starters,
we're still trying to figure things out. Here's Richardson, who
needs the reps. Yeah, maybe we don't put our our
our franchise guy out a quarterback behind that. Maybe we
wait a little bit, maybe we have Maybe we do
it more in practice during the week when things are

(12:33):
controlled and the quarterback doesn't get hit like okay, like
because even even in the joint practice, quarterbacks don't get hit,
right that that's the rule that the unwritten rule of
the teams have. Hey, we don't hit the quarterbacks, right, Great?
Got it? So I really, I mean this is where okay,
you you have no protection for the guy. I mean,
I I really I fail to see how this was

(12:55):
an idea that was signed off on people like, yeah,
it's a good idea. Let's not do painful learning experience, man.
I mean, I tell you, I wonder if is he
up to being a head coach? Does he get everything
that goes along with being a head coach in the NFL?
I wonder that. Well, he said, we did it before
and we will do it again. Okay, all right, great?
Yeah great, that's great. So you know what, that's the
word from a guy that's like, I'm not taking responsibility

(13:17):
for this. I'm not taking responsibility for making a ridiculously
bad decision that potentially put our starting quarterback on the
shelf for a long time. I'm not taking responsibility for it.

week one of the NFL preseason. Are there some big
bets to be had this weekend? I hear from a
lot of people. Hey, preseason football is a great time
to make money. We'll find out about that. It's coming
up next, right here, Jason to Mike Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 2 (13:55):

Speaker 5 (14:06):
Well dressed Hobo.

Speaker 1 (14:07):
Seahawks lead the Raiders sixteen to ten minute and a
half to go in the third quarter, opening night of
preseason football. Yay, we've had big injuries, we've had big performances,
and we have the Raiders performance that's and we have
the Pete Carroll revenge game. Is what we have, the
Pete Carroll revenge Game.

Speaker 3 (14:27):
Okay, he's not really avenging revenging anything.

Speaker 1 (14:31):
Well, he's back in Seattle after Seattle said hey, we
want you to just kind of be a consultant, and
then it was okay, now you're gone and now he's
coaching the Raiders.

Speaker 3 (14:39):
Yeah, it's not ending well though.

Speaker 1 (14:41):
Wait it's the preseason. He's still pay no. But it's
still all right. I mean he's still fine. He's still fine.
Exit out about a Fresco exit swollen down the Jason
Smith Show with my best friend Mike Harmon. Time now
to find out where the betting world sits right now
is the NFL preseason has begun. Joining us now the
hotline ready for another season. The return of the King,

(15:04):
who has been in various parts of Europe and Antarctica
vacationing in the last few weeks. He's a former rods
maker at Caesars. Check out the bet the Board podcast
that's been that just finish its big run. There's some
great episodes out there for you over the course of
the past few years. Awesome time for him. Former ods
maker at Caesars. He is our friend and on Twitter

(15:26):
at Todd Furman. It is the aforementioned Todd Ferman. Todd,
what's happening man?

Speaker 6 (15:30):
You know too? Truth and a lie in there. Yes,
we were in Europe for a little bit of summer vacation,
would be gearing up for football season. But there was
no travel to Antarctica in the mix. I'm not sure
my wife and I, with our weak's stomachs, when it
comes to Drake's passage, would go over all so well
with our pension for seasickness in the grand scheme of things.

Speaker 1 (15:48):
Oh so with your stomach being that now, I got
to call your your professionals him in the question here,
because you talk to me about how bad the Jets
are all every single time. If you have a week stump,
how can you ever watch the Jets. I don't think
you've watched them because your stomach would turn every single
time you put on the television.

Speaker 6 (16:07):
I mean, I try not to, but the good thing
for the Jets at least when your stomach turns watching them,
your face can resemble the same color as their uniforms.
But when you think about it this way, Smith, I mean,
I'm watching the local broadcast of the Las Vegas Raiders
right now, and it's not much better for a Raiders
team that was ready to annoint Ashton Genty the second
coming of Bo Jackson. We'll see if that comes to
fruition of living through the Aiden O'Connell experience, even in

(16:29):
a preseason game is always something that'll keep bartenders pouring
those cocktails in the wee hours of the morning out here.

Speaker 5 (16:36):
In the desert.

Speaker 1 (16:37):
Look at that.

Speaker 3 (16:37):
We already have our raiders, jebs in. You got your
shot at the Jets, which we'll go to. But as
we go into the night, Todd, I mean the big
news from the afternoon. What does the loss of Rashaan
Slater mean for odds? Does it do anything in terms
of a game the game? What's he worth?

Speaker 6 (16:58):
It changes the impact? I mean when you look at
this Chargers' roster from top to bottom, so much was
made about how strong they were going to be in
the trenches. It was an offensive line that underachieved last
year due to some injuries and guys not playing up
to their potential, and unfortunately they're dealt a pretty catastrophic blow,
not just for this season, but you always wonder, given
the nature of the injury, given the leverage that's placed

(17:19):
on an offensive lineman's lower body, if for Sean Slater
can return to the form that warranted that four year
you know, nine figure extension that he was granted about
a month ago and he earned.

Speaker 5 (17:29):
On the field.

Speaker 6 (17:30):
What we've seen as a result is the Chiefs moving
earlier this year. They moved earlier this week. They took
some money at minus two and a half, but they've
not moved through the key number three out to three
and a half. It's some prominent books out here, so
it does change the dynamic a little bit. For that
trip down to s. A. Paulo on Friday, September fifth
to kick things off against the divisional rival, and it
probably makes the Chargers the third best team in the division.

(17:52):
It would have been neck and neck power rating wise
with the Denver Broncos. You downgrade them a touch and
it's Kansas City won Denver two and the Chargers right
now before you have a pretty decent gap until you
get down to the Raiders.

Speaker 3 (18:05):
Now, Todd, I.

Speaker 1 (18:05):
Want to ask this guy, I'm maybe taking you out
of your comfort zone here a bit, but I'm a
little bit higher on the Raiders this year than other teams,
Like I feel like they figured out the three most
important things and that's front office, head, coach, quarterback. Not
to the point where there're suddenly, hey, the Raiders are
going to be great, but I feel like the Raiders
are going to be the best last place team in
football this year. Like if you had a last place

(18:27):
power rankings, the Raiders will be at the top.

Speaker 6 (18:30):
Well, I mean the good thing for the Raiders to
your point, they now have an adult in the room
with Pete Carroll who restores a floor and some level
of expectations that they really didn't have with Antonio Pierce.
I was still stunned when they decided to give Antonio
Pierce the full time job with the interim tag, and
you know, we saw the results and exactly how that
team performed. You go through this roster from top to bottom,

(18:50):
and there are pieces to be a little bit optimistic about.
Gino Smith gives them some stability at the quarterback position.
Jacoby Myers is a nice receiver, but is a true
number one and not a guy that scares you. Rock
Bauers just starting to scratch the surface of elite talent
and an offensive line that I think can be okay,
even if there are still questions. The biggest problem for
the Raiders that they weren't really able to address this offseason,

(19:12):
in my opinion, is a secondary that's going to need
to be remade. And the one thing that we've grown
accustomed to with Pete Carroll, especially during his time in Seattle.
He likes bigger, physical cornerbacks, and the Raiders don't have
a ton of players that fit that mold. So when
you look at a team who's over under for regular
season wins, sits at seven and a half, and, as
you said, kind of projecting them as the last place team,
not a lot of wiggle room to go eight to

(19:33):
nine and be able to catch that ticket. So for me,
I think the Raiders continue to underachieve and maybe start
to get back to being a little bit more competitive
next season.

Speaker 1 (19:41):
So wait, I missed, Ben. Did you say under seven
and a half for wins or eight O'Connell interceptions tonight?

Speaker 6 (19:46):
Well, I mean eight O'Connell trending in that general direction,
But no, if he throws eight interceptions tonight in the
preseason game against Seattle, then we will have a real
story in the.

Speaker 5 (19:56):
Local news tomorrow morning.

Speaker 6 (19:58):
But as far as wins, I think I'm not nearly
as optimistic as some folks are that this Raiders team
will take a step forward.

Speaker 5 (20:05):
So I like them under seven and a half.

Speaker 3 (20:06):
Under seven and a half, just like the underthrown passes
from Aidan O'Connell tonight. As you look at the preseason
as a whole. You know a lot of the hey
it's easy money, Okay, well sure bet John Harball, that
works a couple other guys with skin in the game
for a while. There's trends and there's history of how
much they get ready for it. But how do you

(20:28):
look at it, Todd? You know, where do we find
some value in the numbers? When we look at preseason football, You.

Speaker 6 (20:35):
Know you have to be selective with some of the
positions you take. This market is much more volatile than
what you're going to see during the course of the
regular season. And you can understand given the changing around
player personnel, guys that'll be in what the starters will
look like. Perfect illustration. We had three line moves in
the games tonight, all of right around a touchdown. Two
of those line moves lost out right earlier, with Baltimore

(20:56):
going from a one and a half point favorite closing
as a six point underd August Colts, and Baltimore ends
up upsetting the Colts in that spot. You see Cincinnati,
with all the talk about their starters getting a little
bit more run in the preseason, they go from a
pick them to a six six and a half point favorite,
but it's Philadelphia and Tanner McKee absolutely torching the Cincinnati
Bengals first, second and third string defense, and then the

(21:17):
game going on right now, I mean, the Raiders move
from a short road underdog into a five to five
and a half point favorite, and the Aidan O'Connell experience
hasn't exactly paid dividends, as we said at a sixteen
thirteen score to start the.

Speaker 5 (21:28):
Fourth quarter, So it's a little bit of buyer beware.

Speaker 6 (21:30):
I've seen a ton of back and forth on the
Giants Buffalo game on Saturday. You've seen a lot of
jockeying around some key numbers in Pittsburgh Jacksonville. So, like
we always say, you have to make sure you do
your homework. You don't want to overvalue starters when they're playing,
but you also don't want to undervalue some of the
coaches and their various motivations to get the best out
of their teams this time of year.

Speaker 3 (21:48):
Now, could we take from the Bengals looking into the
regular season that we get a repeat of last year?
Is there a market for what their average points per
game will be where I can hit some key number.

Speaker 6 (22:00):
I mean, you can bet over under on total points
score for the Cincinnati Bengals, and if the defense doesn't
make any improvements, they may need to average forty points
again if they're going to be in the thickest things
to compete.

Speaker 5 (22:10):
For a wildcard spot. Joe Burrow in that.

Speaker 6 (22:12):
Offense is going to continue to put up crooked numbers.
But that defense, even with a new defensive coordinator, Al
Golden and slight upgrades in personnel, have a lot of
questions they need to answer. Oh, we'll see if they
come out of the gates with a win against a
division rival against the Browns. Going to be interested to
see what Cincinnati elects to do with their second preseason
game as well a week from Monday, when they take

(22:33):
on the Washington Commanders.

Speaker 1 (22:35):
Vegas insider Todd Furman, our guest Jason Smith Mike Harmon
live from the Fox Sports Radio Studios. You know, I
wanted to ask this for a couple of weeks. Top,
Which is why I'm glad you're back from Europe. Is
that you know, when preseason football shows up, you get
both sides of the coin. When it comes to gambling.
Is that, hey, man, stay away from it because you
have no idea what's going on, And I see some

(22:56):
people saying, no, no, man, there are some definite big
time bet you can make and money you can make
here in the preseason. What side do you want here?
As far as when it comes to betting preseason football, in.

Speaker 6 (23:07):
My opinion, there had just to be found. But you
have to understand when you're trusting second and third stringers
sometimes there's a little bit more variance in some of
the results. Then you'll get even in the witching hour
of the National Football League, which we know is one
of the tightest and most efficient markets that's out there.
So there's a number of pro betters that will claim
this is the most lucrative three week stretch of the season.

(23:28):
I continue to watch the betting markets. I see a
lot of accounts for influential betting groups, and for me,
it hasn't been as lucrative at least for what I
have seen come across my desk in recent seasons as
for what it is. But there are still plenty of opportunities,
and if you're getting ahead of a lot of these
line moves, you'll have plenty of opportunities to look to
play middles and.

Speaker 5 (23:46):
Or create a little bit of arbitrage. Should you be so.

Speaker 3 (23:48):
Inclined excited a couple of weeks from now, we'll be
talking to college football in full of fact, Todd short term,
looking at Major League Baseball, is there any noise in
the market play with where the Dodgers have been these
last couple of weeks to where maybe some money's flown
in on other NL contenders.

Speaker 6 (24:08):
Dodgers continue to command a ton of respect for odds
makers their price despite some of their struggles, and I
guess if you look at the macro level, they've underachieved
for what their preseason expectations were, still the favorite in
that particular market. I haven't seen any reputable book really
drift their odds past three to one throughout the course
of the season. I mean, you look at what the
Brewers have done over the last sixty to seventy games.

(24:32):
It's absolutely remarkable. But odds makers not too concerned about
what their upside is. They're still the third favorite on
the board. You can find them right around eleven to one.
So I think if you're trying to find a team
that may make a compelling case that's coming from off
the meeting pass, maybe you look in the American league
that appears slightly more wide open than the National League,
and the Texas Rangers pitching staff could be a very

(24:53):
difficult out for most teams in some of these short series.
Now they still have plenty of work to even get
into the playoffs. But I think if I was looking
to and a number that was out there, thirty to
one on Texas probably offers the most upside compared to
some of the shorter prices.

Speaker 1 (25:06):
Todd Furman, our guest here Fox Sports Radio. All right,
now as we get closer, we're getting obviously we're going
to hit some college football before we get to the
beginning of the NFL season. It's a big week one Texas,
Ohio State getting a lot of attention. How much you
ramping up right now for the college football season?

Speaker 6 (25:22):
You know, you kind of go into full college prep
mode in this racket once you start to see the
teams in spring practice, figure out the additions and subtractions
that some of the marquee and the G five teams
have made right around the spring portal. So in a
pretty good spot. A lot of these regular season win
totals have kind of been beaten into place. You're monitoring,
you know, injury updates that'll come out of camp, but

(25:42):
have a pretty good baseline for what we expect. You're
not just for the top teams, but how teams like
a Missouri State or Delaware that are transitioning from FCF
to FBS will go out there and perform. But the
interesting part of college football in this era versus the
past is sometimes some of those preconceived notions you have
during the spring and summer thrown out the window after
only a couple of games. I mean, we saw what

(26:03):
happened to Florida State last year. Came into the season
with a top ten preseason rating, ended up dropping their
power rating by nearly three touchdowns before they got to
their regular season finale against Florida. So it is a
very fluid business and we'll see how some of these
top teams perform. As you mentioned some of the marquee
matchups right out of the gates. But I think the
most fascinating one for me is two middling teams in

(26:23):
the SEC and maybe the Big twelve an Auburn Baylor
on Friday Night. That'll go a long way. More so
than telling us a lot about the Ohio States and
Texas is who even with a loss, we expect to
be in the twelve team College Football PLAYFF.

Speaker 1 (26:34):
He's on Twitter at Todd Furman, That is at Todd Ferman,
former odds maker at Caesars. Check them out CBS Sports
as well Sports Line Jay as always appreciated Todd. Have fun.
We'll talk to you next week. A great one.

Speaker 6 (26:47):
Always a pleasure, gentlemen. Enjoy this fine fourth quarter between
the Seahawks and Raider.

Speaker 3 (26:51):
Yeah, welcome home, brother, Good to have you back there
it go.

Speaker 1 (26:55):
It's great to have Todd Furman back. I missed them.
Walling was gone. Yeah, I know he had a great
fun summer vacation and Europe hanging out. But you know, oh,
I had to pause.

Speaker 3 (27:04):
I had football season, as we know for uh, well
for most of us, is not. I mean, it's a
lot of fun. Yeah, but there's a lot of games
that for everybody else is just one of two seventy two.
I celebrate them all.

Speaker 1 (27:17):
Yeah, Eventually you gotta you know, you gotta do that
ranking of the games one through two seventy two, the
best game of the year. No, we're gonna do that,
and then the last game of the year.

Speaker 3 (27:25):
Well, it's just like we still need to do the uh,
the best worst thing.

Speaker 2 (27:29):
We'll do that.

Speaker 1 (27:30):
Look at the top of the hot we're doing twenty
five minutes. We're gonna do the twenty more.

Speaker 3 (27:32):
We'll do that, doing that twenty five minutes, but definitely
the seventy two we're gonna We're gonna rank them on
a week in week basis, all right, and then just
encapsulate that.

Speaker 1 (27:40):
I think you gotta do one big one before the season,
where you go, here's the best NFL game of the year,
and then all the way through two seventy two. Yeah,
time for that.

Speaker 3 (27:48):
Oh we did well.

Speaker 1 (27:49):
Here's what you do. You get the best Like you
know when when your alphabetize stuff, you say, okay, I
throw the a's and the b's up here, and then
it's stuff down here. That's got how you do it? Oh,
here are the best like ten games. Here's like the
worst ten games. And then just say, hey, I ranked
all two seventy two. Here's my top ten on my
bottom ten, and they don't need to do the rest.

Speaker 3 (28:07):
Of you know what I mean, I would go if
I'm gonna do the extion, you can.

Speaker 1 (28:10):
Pretend you did all two seventy two.

Speaker 3 (28:11):
But I'm not going to lie to America and the world.
It's on video.

Speaker 1 (28:15):
I'm just saying, Hey, I ranked, I ranked the games.
Here's the top ten games on the schedule, and here's
the bottom ten game.

Speaker 3 (28:21):
With the seventeen Jets games down there, there's a couple
of Titans games. There's a bunch of Raiders games from.

Speaker 1 (28:28):
All ten of the bottom ten games involved the Jets.

Speaker 3 (28:31):
You already ranked the final fifty one games, and come.

Speaker 1 (28:35):
It's the first ten games of their season.

Speaker 3 (28:36):
Why why, I don't know.

Speaker 2 (28:41):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 1 (28:51):
Fox Sports Radio The Jason Smith Show with My best
friend Mike Harmon. Wow, listen to you Bo Jackson in
the end zone for the Raiders. Uh, it's not Bo Jackson,
but when you see someone named Jackson scoring a touchdown
for the Raiders, it's kind of fun. Even though he's
wearing number four, you know, it's still kind of fun though.

Speaker 3 (29:10):
I mean, if his name was Vincent, that'd be cool too.

Speaker 1 (29:12):
Yeah, Vincent Jackson, Sure, sure, sure, yeah, But I mean
I want to go back to because I want to say,
I want to say, earlier today, somewhere they were they
were showing the uh where did I see it? Where
they did a revisiting his two hundred and twenty yard
Monday night game against the Seahawks, because you know, previewing
the game tonight when he ran over Brian Bosworth of

(29:32):
the goal line and scored the touchdown and kept running
all the way through the tunnel.

Speaker 3 (29:36):
See, I don't I don't ever consider that a great
you know, a direct hit on Old Bosworth. By the way,
you know bo Jackson's real name is Vincent.

Speaker 1 (29:44):
Yeah, I thought you meant Vincent.

Speaker 3 (29:46):
I thought you were talking as I thought you're talking.

Speaker 1 (29:48):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, no, it is no. Frostburg is right
too soon. I was just calling him by his Okay,
I thought you actually because there was another player who
actually was Yeah, okay, okay, yeah, but either way.

Speaker 3 (29:59):
Yeah, no, to highlight that that lives forever, I mean that,
and training cards with him with a baseball bat and
shoulder pads.

Speaker 1 (30:06):
Yeah yeah, there's any.

Speaker 3 (30:08):
Of those from back in the day, the posters, the
bow nos ads, all of those things, and Bosworth all
these years later trying to figure out uh, got.

Speaker 1 (30:16):
A cash on it. Schedrick Jackson with a big catch
right there. Just to you know now. Earlier tonight in
the game, two running backs to spotlight here for a second.
Obviously we saw Joe Burrow have a big night tonight,
you know, showing that he's ready. Nine out of ten
two touchdowns, big touchdown to Jamar Chase. Okay, everything is cool.

Speaker 3 (30:35):
We're not starting slow again. But not that it was
our fault anyway, but we're not starting slow again.

Speaker 1 (30:40):
But you you want to talk about a team that
is going to have a big three and their third
guy gonna talk about here for a minute, is going
to be an incredible stud Watch this Bengals team. Burrow,
Jamar Chase, Chase Brown right now.

Speaker 3 (30:59):
You forget about the other guy. Yeah, no, had a
fantastic four. Four.

Speaker 1 (31:03):
Well at Franklin they'll be five. But you know, you
forget about the fact that Chase Brown won the job
last year after splitting it for a while with Zach
Moss and had a really good stretch run tonight. Runs
for twenty three yards on a couple of carries, also
catches three passes out of the backfield. He's gonna be
a three down Belcal for this team this year. He
is a terrific talent. He's gonna be a top five,

(31:25):
top seven fantasy running back this year. And this team
that's gonna be predicated on scoring points. This is gonna
be their big three. It's gonna be Burrow, it's gonna
be Jamar Chase, It's gonna be Chase Brown out of
the backfield. They're gonna win a lot of games. I
put up a lot of points on these three guys.
And Chase Brown is someone who goes from the periphery
of being a Hey. He's a top ten ish kind
of fantasy running back depending on what points system you

(31:47):
play in. He was anywhere from tenth to thirteenth last
year overall. But he's gonna be top five, top seven
this year. Easy. Yeah.

Speaker 3 (31:53):
I mean, I had fifty four receptions last year first
three games, splitting time didn't play Week eighteen, So I mean,
and you look at who made hey because we started
getting and parsing out some of that data. You look
at Jamiir Gibbs and a few other players who really
made their bones and looked that much better because of

(32:14):
their efforts in the final three weeks of the season
that you know heavily weighted into what they did. I'll
Chase Brown didn't didn't get to really get unleashed until
the season was well underway, and that defense didn't get
any better. And he's still going to be the hot
route guy out of the backfield a lot. So Joe
Burrow doesn't get knocked on his ass behind a suspect
offensive line, so that catch count is going to go

(32:36):
up as well.

Speaker 1 (32:37):
Say there's your your full on another another guy tie
from that game, simply because after three hundred and seventy
eight touches last year, the Eagles they have to dial
it back on Saquon Barkley or he's going to get hurt, right,
And and you want to look at what the seasons
are running backs have after coming off of three hundred

(32:59):
and fifty three seventy five touch seasons. It's not great,
not great, bad, No, not great, And so you have
to know that there's some sort of regression coming for
Saquon Barkley. If not, hopefully he stays healthy again throughout
the whole Season's problem with that during his career. But
will Shipley is a guy that's gonna carve out a sneaky,
big role for the Eagles. We're gonna be talking about

(33:19):
him a lot. I saw him play a lot of Clemson.
He is fast, he changes direction, he is a stud now.
He had kind of a red shirt year last year
with Philadelphia. I know they have aj Dillon who played
a little bit tonight, but you saw a little bit
of Shipley average in seven yards of carry tonight ran
for fifty yards. He's gonna be the guy that spells
Barkley or come and plays a lot more than people

(33:41):
think because having won the Super Bowl, having Barkley make
his run at two thousand yards, It's gonna be a
different usage year for Barkley this year with with Philadelphis
gonna be okay, you know what, maybe a couple of
series you're gonna have off. We have a guy we
can trust a little bit here, but Shipley's gonna have up.
They're gonna carve out a pretty decent role with the
Eagles this year.

Speaker 3 (33:57):
Watch only in four hundred and eighty two touches. When
you add the playoffs, there's no chance in hell he's
coming anywhere close to that. Again, this is where he
might be in moth Balls if they get ahead in
games because you already did your proof of concept. You
got your big milestone there. Now it's about legacy and
cementing back to back Super Bowl wins for your squad.

(34:19):
So yeah, ship Lan Dylan should see a bunch. Keith
Mitchell was the third guy on the metal stand. We
saw him scamper a bit, Derrick Henry same thing, heavy usage.
We keep waiting for him to fall off the cliffs.
Clearly that's not gonna happen so long as Ronnie Stanley
and that offensive line are healthy. But I would expect
to see the change of pace back a bit more

(34:40):
now that he's healthy and ready to go.

Speaker 1 (34:41):
Yeah, he's a game breaker, Like he showed up on
scene two years ago. It's like, Wow, this guy is
really good. All of a sudden, he can make plays
to change the game. Really missed him last year. That's
a big thing. That's another big one. There's three running
backs for you right there. Don't forget about Keaton Mitchell trick,
especially if you got him stashed on your bench in
Dynasty like I do. Coming up next, Yes, we promised

(35:02):
this tonight coming off of the Raiders Seahawks game, which
is still going. The Power rankings for all the last
place teams in the nfl OH let's Go Power rankings
