we could be on the cusp of a big trade
in the NFL, and one team basically just announced we
are open for business. Are the Dallas Cowboys listening. But
let me just say this, because this is this is
gets a little lost.

Speaker 2 (01:19):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (01:19):
The in the big news today, the Browns have finally
made their decision. It's Joe Flacco to start the season
a quarterback, right. Joe Gabriel was up and down good
good moments this past weekend. Shidora Sanders very good the
week before it still had some questionable moments, but more
good moments than bad. Kenny Pickett is dinged up. We
knew this is gonna happen for Joe Flacco. We knew
he was gonna start the season. And again he's my

(01:40):
first pick in the five quarterback in the parlay Flaco first,
then Kenny Pickett next. Just remember how we all thought
Joe Flacco's career was over in twenty nineteen pre pandemic.
We thought Joe Flacco's career was over. After Baltimore decided fulling,

(02:01):
we have to go for Lamar Jackson. He's our guy,
John Harbaugh saying, hey, I love you. Joey won his
Super Bowl, But you know, I'm really if I didn't
embrace Lamar Jackson, I'm getting fired to somebody else in
here coaching this guy so they push him out. He
goes to Denver. He plays half the season. He wasn't
very good. That was it. Like Joe Flacco was done
at that point. It was does he retire? Does he

(02:23):
want to stick around being a backup? And there he does.
He kind of kicks around the NFL the next few years.
He's the backup with the Jets, which is like, my goodness,
the worst years he had was with the Jets, right,
kick things around Jets Jets backup, got a chance to
start a handful of games here and there. You know,
wasn't great, wasn't trendously awful, was okay? And now here
he is now in twenty twenty five, after going to

(02:46):
the Browns where he was really good in twenty twenty three.
Those are the Colts last year for a few games,
where again he was really good, you know, for a
guy who it was forty years old. And now here
he is again starting Week one of the NFL again,
a guy we thought was done pre pandemic in twenty nineteen,
six years ago, we thought Joe Flacco was too old
and he was finished near he has now started. Now

(03:08):
He's not starting for a great team, and it's not like, hey,
the Super Bowl champ said, hey, we're picking you Joe Flacco.
Oh yeah, sure, Joe, you're coming into start instead of
Jaalen Hurts. A nice job, go get him. But this
still we again. Six years ago he was done and
here he has started, like that was some sort of perseverance.

Speaker 4 (03:23):
Well, it's also an indictment on the system and evaluation
of quarterbacks and not letting things cook the proper temperature right.
And you go to a restaurant and sometimes you're like,
you know, the chicken didn't feel right now, that probably
needed a few more minutes under the broiler, or the
steak that came out. Maybe you're not one that likes
it medium. Well, no, you wanted a little more charred.

(03:46):
Whatever the case may be, you get you gotta let
some things cook. And we've seen Colts being a great
example of maybe the guy needed to learn for a
full year instead of hey, kid, get that helmet, get
out there. And we watched them take many turns in
the post Andrew luck like they couldn't get out of
their own way. Ersa in the front office of let's
sign a bunch of guys that are on their last

(04:06):
legs and give them a shot with Joe Flacco, even
go back to twenty one, you know, was winning and
got them to the playoffs. Like it wasn't great looking football.
Oftentimes the touchdown to interception ratio was suspect and usually
on the wrong side of things, but he gave them
a chance and their defense was good enough to close
some games out. But all of that to say, you know,

(04:29):
we're looking at sixty plus quarterbacks starting every year in
the National Football League. The last five six years, we
have watched that become a fairly continuous growth spot of
if you can just hang around, eventually you're gonna find
your way into a start. Now starting week one for

(04:50):
one of the thirty two not something I thought would
have been on any of our bingo.

Speaker 1 (04:55):
Just keeps finding a way to start in the NFL,
whether it because of injury, whether it's because a quarterback
situation didn't work out. Now, clearly, if you're an NFL team,
you're like, if you signed Flacco, that means that's a
bad sign that you know your quarterback room is not
working well. You've decided you don't trust any of those
guys in the room. Otherwise you wouldn't bother or Joe
Flacco is the curse. Hey, we're gonna sign Joe Flacco

(05:16):
to be a backup?

Speaker 5 (05:17):
No, no, do that.

Speaker 1 (05:17):
That means, all of a sudden, our number one guy's
gonna get hurt or stink, and Flacco's gonna have to play.
Because that's what happened with the Jets.

Speaker 4 (05:24):
Because he starts getting in to the meeting rooms.

Speaker 1 (05:26):
What happened with the Colts is happening everywhere. That's his
last three teams.

Speaker 4 (05:30):
But he comes in and you know, we'll just name
him a superhero. He's just doubt. He gets in the
room and all of the things you thought you knew
go out the window. Really, that's the read you're gonna
make on that. You sure, that's the reed you would
make in this That's what you're saying on the whiteboard.
That's what you're telling coach and OC and everybody associated here.
You're telling us that's the reed you would make in

(05:50):
a game situation. Well, I don't know, Joe, I don't know,
And all of a sudden, the confidence is shot. That's
what he's doing. That's his superpower.

Speaker 1 (05:59):
What about Joe fly? No, you know what's gonna happen
to us? Fine, well, I just know now it's not
gonna work out. Whatever team he goes to. You know,
he walks into that quarterback room and all of a
sudden he cools it. He just cools it on that guys.

Speaker 4 (06:10):
Walking in perfect hair, and they're.

Speaker 1 (06:13):
Gonna get hurt. It's gonna be terrible.

Speaker 4 (06:15):
Look at the left.

Speaker 1 (06:16):
Look, okay, go go back.

Speaker 3 (06:17):
Now.

Speaker 1 (06:18):
Last year with the Colts, a quarterback room was insanely
up in the Anthony Richardson wasn't good, couldn't stay healthy.
They had to go out and sign Daniel Jones and
it's still a mess. Okay, before that Browns again off
his couch, right because.

Speaker 4 (06:31):
The Brown come Player of the year.

Speaker 1 (06:33):
Yeah, you had like stand like seven guys that they'd signed. Okay,
use is how bad the quarterback room was. We got
Joe Flacco, he was great before that the Jets. You
know what the quarterback room was like with the Jets
for those three years when he was there, right, the Broncos,
things so bad. We gotta get out from I gotta
get out from under Joe Flacco. The last four teams,
the quarterback rooms were all a mess. Was that Joe
Flacco to help or was it Joe Flacco cooling the

(06:56):
quarterback rooms.

Speaker 4 (06:57):
Maybe he's mefisto.

Speaker 1 (07:00):
Joe.

Speaker 4 (07:01):
That is kind of interesting though, now he's full William H. Macy.
He's the cooler I like doubt. I would think I'm
gonna use that create my own comic of him.

Speaker 1 (07:10):
So elsewhere in the NFL, maybe you saw this headline today.
The Patriots are ready to wheel and deal at the
most salary cap space in the NFL. Signed a bunch
of players that have a lot of salary cap space.
At least Bill Belichick left the cupboard bereft of talent,
but also bereft of contracts. So there's that.

Speaker 4 (07:28):
Well, I mean the latter is what you'd really want
if you're taking over a full regime, aren't you.

Speaker 1 (07:32):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, you want it to be Yeah, set
it up for the next guy. We're not paying anybody
out No, great, I'm outstand now this is the guy
after the guy. So it's even.

Speaker 4 (07:39):
Better for this is like the beginning of a Bob
Ross episode where you've got a blank canvas.

Speaker 1 (07:44):
Let's go happy little clouds.

Speaker 5 (07:45):
So today.

Speaker 1 (07:48):
VP of Player Personnel Elliott Wolf said that the team
is open for business if the significant trade opportunity presents itself.
Now here's the quote. Absolutely, we're talking to all thirty
one teens and trying to do what's best for us.
Those things are often a lot more complicated to the
fans and some others would like to make you believe.
But if there's something we think can help us, we

(08:08):
definitely be open to it. All Right now, the Patriots
are undefeated this preseason. They got a lot of good
feeling going on right there. Rabel's a perfect coach. I mean,
he is the guy you talk about people that fit.
That's the job he's always wanted. He's there. He's building
a culture. Look again, I'm afraid because I feel like, Okay,
I like the culture that Aaron Glenn is building, but
I feel like a year from now, I'm gonna say, now,

(08:29):
the AFC East is the deepest division in the NFL.
Why could we play at least one year the division stakes? Now,
everybody's gonna be on the rude.

Speaker 4 (08:35):
So you think his culture building is better than your
culture building?

Speaker 1 (08:39):
His culture building is great, but his culture building is great.
Aaron Glenn's culture building is great. The bills already are great.

Speaker 4 (08:44):
Well, you know what, when Eric gotten bloodied in a
middle of a camp fight. But he doesn't want it enough.

Speaker 1 (08:52):
Understand that this is about one and Rabel being the coach,
is being the defensive coach. This is not about hey, hey,
there's a lot of high profile players who are unhappy.
It could be Terry McLaurin, it could be Trey Hendrickson. No,
this does not help the Patriots. Okay, getting twenty nine
and thirty year old players does not help them. Well yeah,
would it help them on the field, of course when

(09:12):
you bring in a player who's who's that? But this
is not the Patriots are not building for hey, a
shot at the Super Bowl this year. They are trying
to build. This is all about the Patriots firing a
missive and putting up a flare telling Jerry Jones, if
you want to trade Micah Parsons, we can do it right.
We have the salary cap money to do it. They
have the draft capital to do it. Micah Parsons. That's

(09:35):
the guy. You don't do any other You don't trade
any other high picks for for either Hendrickson or McLaurin.
Like these guys, they're good players, but they're thirty years old.
Would McLaurin help in theory. Drake May, Yeah, but you
signed a bunch of guys looking. I don't know, it's
the fun. Diggs has left, but you have some guys there.
But you're not going crazy. You're not saying, well, let's
team Drake May up with a thirty year old wide receiver,
but Michah Parsons, who could come right into that defense

(09:57):
and all of a sudden, as good as it is,
make it even better because you've got some all pro
caliber players on there, and and Vrabel building. This is
how you build. This is the Patriots letting Jerry Jones know, Hey,
we're open, we have picks, we have the money. We
can make a deal happen very easily. Now I want
to think they're calling him on the phone, but this
is out in public as well. Maybe to get Micah

(10:17):
Parsons people to understand, Hey, the pick, would you like
to go to the Patriots? Like to go play for
Mike Rabel. He'd be your guy, he'd love us. There's
many reasons why the Patriots would get this out there,
but they want everybody to know we are open for business,
and there's nobody else out there available via trade that
fits to what the Patriots want to do, which is
we're building young, we want superstar players. We're willing to
pay for it. I mean, that's not gonna They know

(10:38):
it's not gonna be cheap. They're gonna have to pay
and they're gonna have to give him a contract. But
they're saying, we are willing to do this. Jerry Jones,
call us, because Jerry Jones. They want Jerry Jones to say, Well,
they seem desperate. So maybe we'll call them, see what
I can get, and I'll get a big deal and
I have to worry about paying a guy that maybe
doesn't want to stay anymore. And I'll figure out a deal.
I'll call Belichick. What do you mean he's not okay, No,

(11:00):
but he's that Oh okay, Well, well then get Grogan
on the phone. So this is this is, this is
this is they're lighting themselves on fire saying, hey, call us,
we can do this. They want this to be public
and Micah parsons this is not about anybody else besides him.

Speaker 4 (11:16):
Look at you invoking shades of Midsummer as you're giving
this analysis here. Uh look, you got ten draft picks
to you. You got ten draft picks on the board
right now for the Patriots and the analysis of look
at the here's your top trade options, the guys that
are obviously in the news, and you know, we'd be
curious to see what other teams if you start kicking

(11:39):
the can, or you might find another player or two
that he's on the happy and it hasn't bubbled to
the surface, or that is now expendable based on what
you've seen in camp, because I imagine we've got we've
had a couple of minor moves, but maybe we see
more in that regard. As for Hendrickson and McLaurin, you're
absolutely right. I'm not giving up draft capital and or

(11:59):
player right and then having to pay these guys thirty
five million dollars a year. That just negates a lot
of the flexibility that you'd given yourself, unless you think
that that runway to domination is that short, which I
don't think it is. For the Cowboys, still be shocked
if Michaeh Parsons doesn't get the eleven you know, forty

(12:20):
eight Hall that gets signed at eleven fifty nine ahead
of becoming a pumpkin with Jerry Jones and the Cowboys
It's like, hey, have we milked this long enough?

Speaker 5 (12:30):
All right?

Speaker 4 (12:31):
Go sign the kid?

Speaker 1 (12:31):
Haven't made a headline in forty eight to seventy two hours.
Gotta say something? Yeah, do I say?

Speaker 2 (12:37):
So?

Speaker 1 (12:37):
I forget last time? Did I say something good or
say something bad? Because I go good good in the opposite. Now,
all right, I gotta gotta keep everybody on their toes.

Speaker 4 (12:44):
There's a lot of craziness going on with that documentary,
but I don't think people care. I think they know
those stories. So did I hype up the Milton kid?

Speaker 1 (12:53):
Yet?

Speaker 4 (12:53):
Did I do that?

Speaker 1 (12:54):
Everybody got to see him play Saturday. I'll tell you
that that that's not gonna go anywhere. Can't do that anymore.
It's out all right at the window. So I guess
I gotta pay him. What do we got? What do
we got?

Speaker 3 (13:03):
No?

Speaker 5 (13:03):
Really?

Speaker 1 (13:04):
The cowboy and look the cowboys. As time goes on,
they're realizing Michah Parsons is a different kind of dude,
and the fact that there's been nothing it should speak volumes.
Jerry Jones should have been falling all over himself to
talk about keeping Michaeh Parsons happy. Parsons should be sitting
around saying, hey, everything's gonna get done. Things back, but
you're just getting nothing. You're getting absolutely nothing. Patriots just

(13:26):
saying we're here. They're jumping up and down. We're here,
We're here. They're Tom Hanks on the island going well,
I'm here, just right here, long, im right.

Speaker 5 (13:34):
Here, just got there.

Speaker 1 (13:36):
They want that trade, they want Michael Parsons, because they're
also standing there with the giant novelty size blank check
to try to get the attention of Parsons and all
of his management.

Speaker 4 (13:45):
Hey guys, this is waiting here for you too.

Speaker 5 (13:48):

Speaker 1 (15:25):
Fox Sports Radio. The Jason Smith Show with my best
friend Mike Harmon. It looked like the Dodgers solved all
their problems this weekend with a sweep of the Padres.
But uh, a big misplay by ta Oscar Hernandez and
right field, who has had a season full of showing
maybe he's not quite the outfielder he once was, and

(15:45):
the Dodgers losing walk off style to the Rockies. We'll
get to that in a second. Joining us now in
the hot line Nobody to Bed to break down all
the big news as we get set for the stretch
run in Major League Baseball. Then MLB Network insider are
extraordinaire on Twitter at John Morosi. Fresh off a successful
stint at Williamsport, John Paul, what's happening man? How is

(16:07):
your weekend?

Speaker 3 (16:08):
I am outstanding and it is successful because, of course, Jason,
your New York Mets won the game. I am now
in the second half of the season one and oh
while covering Mets games. In terms of the Mets, your
team prevailing, and I am a big believer in this.
The Mets are going to enjoy the Williamsport bounce. They're

(16:30):
going to be so full of the joy they experienced
yesterday it's going to carry them right through the final
quarter of the season and they, my friend, will be
a playoff team.

Speaker 1 (16:39):
Well let's okay, Well I love that, and let's be honest,
really it is the bounce they're enjoying from the new
favorite for Cy Young, n NL MVP and Nolan McClain.
I'm looking at Olan McClain. Bounced Saturday. Sunday was great,
But that bound Saturday, that was like, all of a sudden,
the color just rushed back into the knicks, into the knicks,
into the Mets faces, and suddenly he's like, Okay, now

(17:01):
we can go play again. We have a pulse.

Speaker 3 (17:04):
That's the other team in orange blue, by the way,
But yes, and and the Pistons should have won that series.
But I digress. Reconding McLain, it was interesting again. I
was there yesterday. I talked to John Gibbons before the game,
of course, Mets bench coach, longtime major league manager, and
he had a lot of really good things to say

(17:24):
about McLean. And now Gibbey has seen a lot of baseball,
He's seen a lot of kids come up and make
their debuts. I think he was very impressed by McLean's poise.
The stop, and also his ability to defend and really
defend his position very very well. It's the little thing,
Jason that go into the ability to manage a game,

(17:45):
manage the ups and downs of a pennant race. And now,
as far as I'm concerned him, he is. He is
in this rotation for the indefinite future. I mean, I
don't see anybody else is going to come in and
take a spot from him. So this this spot will
belongs to him for the balance of the regular season,
maybe even beyond that. But I thought his ability to
make pitches against the quality team Seattle had won the

(18:08):
series opener there on Friday and surely came in there
with a lot of momentum. They're a really good team
that's probably gonna go to the playoffs too. And I
think the way that McLean pitched on Saturday was exactly
what the Mets needed. And then of course the next
step was going there on Sunday. And I'll say that's
a couple of quick stories. Number one, brand and Neimo.
I've covered every single Little League Classic there it's been.

(18:31):
We've now had eight of them. It's one of my
favorite days of the baseball Here Brandon Neimo signed more
autographs yesterday than any other player I've ever seen. Now
that's unscientific because I not, of course sit next to
every single player, but just from what I saw, Brandon
Nemo was a true man of the people. There was
one little kid who ran up to him and just said,

(18:52):
oh my gosh, I got Brandon Nemo's autograph and ran away.
It was just it was the pure joy of baseball.
That was Number one cool moment. The code Number one
cool moment was Code I Singa explaining to the Team
Japan players how to throw the ghost forkball in in
the rec ordom. There's a little reck room in the

(19:13):
dormitory where the kids stay there at the League World Series,
and Senga was in there showing them how the ball
rotates off your finger to be able to get the
dropping action. And I just looked at the expressions on
the kids' faces, the awe they had. I mean, look,
he's one of their pitching idols in Japan, and all

(19:34):
of a sudden he's standing in front of you giving
you an impromptu pitching lesson while you're playing in the
Little League World Series. Wrap your mind around what that's like.
At twelve years old, and that's those kids experience. And
just to know that you're watching one of the great
and enduringly awesome moments of someone's life and fold right

(19:54):
in front of you is a pretty cool thing. And
that happened times twelve on numerous ac Asians yesterday.

Speaker 4 (20:01):
Yeah, the giddiness of the players all in the pre
pregame stuff and all the way through just infectious.

Speaker 1 (20:07):
JP.

Speaker 4 (20:08):
One thing that the Dodgers had hoped that winning a
sweep of a series against the Padres would continue the
good vibes today as they go to Colorado. Well, got
swept by the Angels, sweep the Pads and now you
can face a red hot Rockies team win's of seven
of eight. Now, JP, Wow, crazy, But what do we
do with this squad?

Speaker 3 (20:29):
Well, so for the Dodgers, it's interesting. And you know,
Justin and I chatted a bit before before the segment started.
I don't know if you're going to start having to
defense late for TASCAR and get in a little better
glove out there. Potentially obviously based on it being a
tie game, that wasn't really in play tonight because you
still had to try to win the ball game and

(20:50):
you wanted his bat in the lineup. But at some points,
as my great mentor John Lowe told me years ago
when I was a young ball writer, that when you
get deeper into the season, especially in the playoffs, baseball
becomes a game of getting outs. It becomes a game
of just getting outs, and you need to have your

(21:11):
best defensive team out there at some point. And and
that's where I start to wonder, this is a team
that as Mookie comes around, and certainly he had a
huge weekend, you look at at show A, you look
at Freddie, look at will Smith. Obviously Munsey being out
hurts them in this regard, but you should have enough

(21:32):
thump at the top of the lineup that maybe you're
able to make more of a defensive play at a
different spot of the lineup to be able to just
preserve late leads or keep a late game tight. As
you saw tonight. Again, I don't think that. I do
not think at all that Roberts aired by having him
in the game. It's a tie game. I'm not really
sure what he's supposed to do in that situation. But

(21:53):
I think in general, maybe there are some games here
and there where you're gonna put call in the game
more often, or or just make some different defensive decisions
with Pattes or others to just try to find a
way to have your best defensive team on the field,
because this team in general, guys, I'm miss telling you.
I still like the Dodgers a lot, but they're just

(22:14):
not quite as crisp in all areas of the game
as they were a year ago. And I think tonight's
loss was the latest illustration of that.

Speaker 1 (22:21):
John Paul Morosi, our guest Jason Smith, Mike Harmon, live
from the Fox Sports Radio studios. All right, let me
take you back now off the fielding back to Williams
Sport for a couple moments here where Rob Manfred on
the broadcast last night went into great detail about what
could potentially be radical realignment to Major League Baseball. They
want to expand, get to thirty two teams, and all
of a sudden, the national media and social media has

(22:45):
run them up with it's going to be just like
the NFL. There's going to be eight four team divisions
and wild cards. Like you heard what he had to
say last night, you digested it for a day. What
do you see as the path forward here? Judging by
what Brod Manford talked about.

Speaker 3 (22:59):
I think what you're describe is very possible that we
could get to eight four team divisions. And to be fair,
I realized he said it on national TV and there
are a lot of people watching. He has said versions
of this many times in the past. So what I

(23:19):
heard him say last night and I went back and
listened to it, it struck me as noteworthy, but not
terribly newsworthy in the sense of it being a revelation
of something being new. So that's it's it is so
to the point that it's it's out there now and
being discussed. I think that's good. And it also is
just further evidence of the fact that this is this

(23:41):
is something that's been discussed and this is not the
first time Ron Manford has said something like this. And
so so those that like the idea, great, because there's
a decent chance something like this is going to happen
down the line. But those that hate the idea, I
guess the lesson I would say to you to take
a few years before this gets worked out, because the

(24:02):
only way that you're gonna do radical realignment is if
and when you expand. I happen to think that they
will expand, but it's probably more like end of the decade,
early twenty thirties before you see a team in take
your pick, Portland, Oregon, Salt Lake, Nashville, Charlotte, wherever they
end up going. Austin, Texas has been one of my favorites.

(24:25):
It's probably somewhere in that in that range of teams
that I just mentioned. Take two of those five. Two
of those five teams go to thirty two get a
massive expansion fee. Owners like that. You do it right
around the same time that you're you're sort of reimagining
the the media rights landscape of the sport, and baseball
probably looks a little bit different by the early twenty thirties,

(24:46):
but a big thing. And the Commissioner has talked about
this before and he referenced it last night and again
not for the first time, that that what radical realignment
allows you to do is to play more of your
games in the time zone that your city is in.
And take, for example, a team like the Texas Rangers,

(25:08):
who has three teams in their division that play two
time zones away, all on the West Coast. And the
Commissioner's point, and I think it's a fair one is
is you want to make your product as easily consumed
and viewed by your viewers and your fans as possible.

(25:28):
And so while the old time traditional fan might not like, Hey,
why are the Rangers now going to be in the
same division as the Royals and the Cardinals? That doesn't
make any sense. Well, fine, it's like change is inevitable.
We now have a universal DHL. It's not a very
big leap to doing this. And the idea is to
make the game as accessible and for more people to

(25:51):
watch it as possible. And if it looks a little
goofy for one or two years, if it helps kids
in Saint Louis watch more Cardinal games, it helps more
kids in Texas watch more Ranger games, I'm out for it.
And and the other thing, Jason and Mike is this
and you both you've lived in these cities and these
are your teams. That's all make this point. You might

(26:12):
have people saying, oh my gosh, the Cubs and the Socks,
they can't be in the same division. And people might say,
oh my gosh, the Yankees and Mets, they can't be
in the same division. Guess what y'all are gonna watch. Okay,
that's it, y'all are gonna watch. No one. No one's
gonna have any issue. Okay, you're you mean to tell
me no, No, I just I can't watch it. We're
in the Subway series more often, and we might have

(26:34):
a first round series between the Mets and the Yankees,
and as a result, nah, I'll pass. I'm out. No,
You're gonna watch, just like you always watch, you know
when when the Giants play the Jets in whatever situation
that is. I mean that you're gonna watch. You are
going to watch. These are These are resulting in more
games that will that people will want to watch. And
the Angels Dodgers' rivalry is real. You could have a

(26:56):
division now where it's gonna be potentially, ain't Dodgers Padres
I don't know, d Bax maybe whatever it is. I
mean like that that travel players are gonna love it.
And by the way, by the way, one of the
other things the commissioner said last night that I think
was important was the ease of the travel. The players
will have shorter flights, more nights at home that they

(27:18):
will their bodies will be in better shade. By the
end of the season. The product is better, the players
are happier, the fans get more games that they can
actually watch. I am I am fully on board with
this plan.

Speaker 4 (27:30):
Tell you what if you get nights, If you go
back to the old Waight schedule and get nineteen games
of the White Sox gubs together, I think everybody celebrates,
But that.

Speaker 3 (27:40):
Crosstown Cup is gonna be like a season unto itself.
You're gonna have more, They'll have more games to determine
the Crosstown Cup than the NBA in season tournament. We're
gonna raise a banner for this one.

Speaker 7 (27:49):
Baby.

Speaker 4 (27:50):
I remember seeing all sorts of fights back when those
games quote didn't matter anyway.

Speaker 3 (27:53):
J P.

Speaker 4 (27:54):
Last one for you, serious note. Zach Wheeler removal of
a blood clot near his throwing shoulder, thirty five years old,
having another fantastic year, ten and five runner up for
the cy Young last year. Any idea how quickly he
can get back and what this does to their rotation?

Speaker 3 (28:09):
You know, Mike, it's a very tough question, and it's
and it's sad because he's one of my favorite competitors
to watch. Great pitcher, great person who was putting. He's
put in so much to his career been able to
overcome arm injuries earlier. First of all, we talked about
a blood clot. Good on the doctors for being able
to recognize it, and for Zach's athletic trainers with the Phillies,
and for Zach himself for speaking up because that's a

(28:32):
scary thing. And so what the Phillies announced today was
that it's been basically taken care of. So like the
thrabosas has been taken care of, that's obviously great news.
What we don't know is how it was taken care of,
where it was, the extent of the surgery is a
lot that we don't know right now. If if and

(28:53):
I will say, if it was a full thoracic outlet
syndrome procedure, which we do not know. We do not
know that, But if it was, it's almost certainly season ending.
I mean, that's that's if it with that extent. We
don't know the extent of it, and so we'll wait
to hear from the Phillies about where they're at in
terms of the specifics there, but it's it's obviously tough news.

(29:15):
He's out indefinitely. No one really knows when he's gonna
be able to pitch again. I'm I'm optimistic based on
you know, there have been other pictures that have dealt
with different situations of this type have gone on the
pitch again, So I'm optimistic that it's not going to
be a career ending situation. But but this is a
massive impediment for the Phillies. There's no there's no getting

(29:37):
around of it. He's their ace pitcher. They're hoping no
one gets back to form. But it's this is certainly
a game changer in a very unfortunate way in the
National League East.

Speaker 1 (29:47):
He's on Twitter at John Morosi, that is at John Morosi,
John Paul is always thanks for stopping by and and
the note I gave you last week when I said
I'm looking forward to seeing McLean's debut. Thank you for
getting that disterns. I feel I feel good about getting
a ring at the end of.

Speaker 3 (30:02):
The year now, as ordered my friend when we were
in it, and I was texted with David over the
weekend too that he's in a good mood. It was
back to back wins, so all.

Speaker 2 (30:13):
Was, well, take it easybody, we'll talk to you next week.

Speaker 1 (30:18):
I did. I text him, I said, Hey, please tell
tell Sternsey. I look forward to seeing McLean and sports
debut this week the two best pitches of Mets have.
McLean comes up Saturday and basically saves the season, bring
in Jeck's energy. They beat the crap out of the
Mariners on Sunday. I'm like, I should get a ring
with the Mets win the World Series. I mean I
I helped. I said, hey, you get this to Sternsy. Hey,
guess what. McLean hadn't come up all year. I text

(30:40):
John Palmer Rosie, John Palmer Ross. He talks to his
former college room mate David Stearns and Boom, Nolan, McLean
is up.

Speaker 4 (30:46):
They didn't order that, that chaos on the hill where
that guy almost took out Julio Rodriguez, did they?

Speaker 1 (30:50):
No, they did not.

Speaker 4 (30:51):
I had nothing to do with the Mets. That can't
be trace back.

Speaker 1 (30:53):
Now, can't be as far as sure, as far as
you know, it can't be trace back. It's not there.

Speaker 4 (30:56):
It's not Techel dirty Pool there that and you can
go back to Sternsy. Now, why didn't this happen three
weeks ago?

Speaker 1 (31:02):
Time not to find out what's trending in the wide
world of Sports. But guy's been called the Nolan McLain
of Fox Sports Radio. You should see him on those
ground balls back through the box behind his back making
a play, turning a double play. It's Steve to say.

Speaker 7 (31:14):
I thought it was just because I have a heck
of a spin rate as well.

Speaker 1 (31:17):
Oh that's been I'll try spin it. That looks like
a frisbee sometimes and that thing crosses the plate.

Speaker 7 (31:21):
It's like Dustin May, who, by the way, took the
l in Boston toll but did allow only two runs
and six innings the X Dodgers seven and nine. This year,
Baltimore won at Boston six'. Three by the, Way FOX

Speaker 1 (32:54):

Speaker 7 (33:01):
Something like, that even thirty something like.

Speaker 1 (33:03):
That over the. Lags it's so really crazy like, that
like that's not going to happen.

Speaker 7 (33:07):
Now, Yeah, oh your white socks are, Safe.

Speaker 5 (33:09):
Harman.

Speaker 7 (33:09):
Yay there's a game ON fs one right, now The Red.
Sox excuse, me The reds are leading three to one
at The, angels bottom of the. Seven it's The reds
that are game and a half out of the LAST
nl wildcard behind The. Mets philadelphia twelve to seven winners Against.
Seattle Bryce harper two, Homers Trey turner four, hits five,
RBIs including a home. Run detroit shut Out houston ten to.

(33:33):
Nothing milwaukee won seven nothing at The cubs. Today that
was due to be the first of a double, header
making up a rainout from a couple months. Ago this
is a five game series this week At. Wrigley game

opener The cubs offense went two for twenty, nine including
another zero for four For Kyle. Tucker he will take

Friend Mike. Harmon yeah This we're in the car this.
WEEKEND i told you this one of my guilty pleasure,
songs and COME i, said, Oh pam was gonna. CHANGE
i go, no come on a skater, boy AND i
sing the whole song And zoey, goes, Wow, dad you

(35:22):
really did know all the words of that.

Speaker 4 (35:23):
Song but it's amazing what. Happens there's a lot of
that stuff that became popular twenty thirty years, ago that
sits in the deep. Reservoir now you admit to listening
to it, Regularly.

Speaker 1 (35:37):
Uh, no when it comes ON i. Do i've listened
to it For i've always liked the. Song, yeah but
that but that's.

Speaker 4 (35:43):
Thing it still comes into the sequencing because there's plenty
of ways you can avoid music he wants to listen.

Speaker 1 (35:48):
To, yeah, no, no, NO i actively seek out Skater.

Speaker 5 (35:51):
Boy.

Speaker 4 (35:52):
YEAH i had a couple of years, where you, know
country music was was, big and there's a couple of
artists that are still, there but then there were all
the ancillary. Things one, day do come on the, Radio it's, like,
wow that's been sitting in the reserves for twenty five. Years, yeah,
yeah that's what it's scary in this. Case you, know
you had to cop to zoeays, LIKE i actually kind
of listened to this one everyone so kind of a

(36:13):
hype song for. Me so it's, there he, said listen
to the message at the.

Speaker 1 (36:16):
End it turns out it's third person perfect narrating the.
Song it's his new girl friend that is narrating, it
and they're writing a song about a girl that he
used to. Know see what it says it's. Ending this
is how the story. Ends there's still half the song. Left,
ah it's a lot of detail on that, song Isn't.

Speaker 4 (36:32):
And then you sing queens rich or has it just?
Begun so.

Speaker 1 (36:38):
Two weeks, AGO i told You i'm feeling really good
about The. Raiders they're gonna be the best last stream
in THE. Nfl it's gonna be. Awesome week, One, okay,
BOY i don't know about. That but After week, two
firmly believe this is the best last place team in THE.
Nfl Ashton genty had an Credible week two after a

(37:01):
cameo appearance Disappointing week. One three carries minus one yard
against The. Niners this weekend, look he ran over a
defender in a highlight that got all the. Play this
weekend eight carries thirty five yards a. Touchdown he said
after the game was, over, Quote i've arrived and it's
time to keep going and make plays for this. Team
this is exactly what The raiders. Need The raiders need

(37:24):
somebody step up and SAY i got, IT i got,
Us i'm gonna do. It he is not lacking for.
Confidence he is, fast he is. Physical there's a reason
why they drafted him that high and again in five,
years we're gonna, Go, wow can you all those teams
pass On nash and? Genty and he same thing With Travis, Hunter,
like how are these guys not the top picks in the.
Draft The raiders are. Nothing this is not quite the

(37:47):
era of good feeling because they're playing in division that
is absolutely stacked with. Talent and, look THE Afc west
is gonna be the best division in football this. Year
you have three teams that could win the division and
potentially go to the Super. Bowl that's how good they.
Are so The, raiders, yeah they're, building but they're building
something really. Good Gino smith talked about after the. Game, hey,
listen he's. Great we're gonna ride. Him It's Ashton genti's.

(38:10):
Team The raiders have the right people in place to
make it, succeed. RIGHT i could talk all you want
about How, hey you, know they Got brady in the front,
office which is. Awesome they figured out their head coaching
situation With Pete, carroll which is. Great they got their
quarterback In Gino, smith who was a league average. Guy
but who's this what's the identity of this? Team who
is this? Team this team Is Ashton genty and he

(38:30):
showed you. That, Okay week, one you didn't really give
me the. FOOTBALL i am dying to show you WHAT
i can. Do and he is going to have the
best rookie season a running back has had in about a.
Decade and watch how good he. Is reason he's going
number one in all The dynasty drafts in. Fantasy he's
gonna have a great. Year The raiders will be the
best last place team in.

Speaker 4 (38:50):
Football, yeah they'll be fun to, watch especially If Tom
brady keeps showing up looking like He's Al, davis like
he literally raided the wardrobe from the seventies And Al
davis roaming the sidelines in that leisure. Suit but you
know the. Curiosity genty goes sixth overall to The. Raiders
they still have a subpar offensive, line so that is

(39:13):
something he'll need to. Overcome the other thing, is you,
know we often use The simpsons as a you, know
touch point for everybody to go between pop culture and
our sporting. Universe And i'm thinking back to when you
had The Great football episode of you, Know bart's going
to be the quarterback, whatever But nelson months how he
would run out of his way to go hit somebody
who was standing on the other side of the. Field,

(39:34):
REMEMBER i remember we did that last. Year that's What
ashton genty likes liked to, do especially in this week's.

Speaker 5 (39:40):
Game.

Speaker 4 (39:40):
Uh and it's for his. Career so the fact that
he touched the ball nearly four hundred times last year
does lead me a bit. Concern that's a lot of,
miles and usually the year after that comes back on.
You but, yeah there's a difference between college football miles
AND nfl. Miles, right there's a there's difference between.

Speaker 1 (40:00):
Those and when that's fine your rookie, year, well obviously
The raiders are gonna have to manage him so he
doesn't hit the rookie wall and figure out the best
way to do, it because there's the other. Part this
is gonna be where the rape we're gonnaut him. Out
they're gonna ball thirty times a game until he falls
apart and then, okay then we'll then we'll dial it
back for next. Year he gets the, pounding he gets
used to the, pounding then he's back for even better year.

Speaker 5 (40:19):
Too, Yeah i'd be.

Speaker 4 (40:20):
Looking at the depth chart, there who's there? White so,
yes start looking at that but certainly, curious and you,
know interest is peaked running over guys as, justin you,
know throws out you, know. PRESEASON i take it with
a grain of. SALT i love the the ferocity with
which he runs and the toughness and little reticent to

(40:43):
say that that translates into anything, wins but they'll be
fun to.

Speaker 1 (40:46):
Watch best rookie running back. Season gotta go back To
zeke in twenty. Sixteen that's how good a year he's gonna.
Have when you're gonna carry the ball forty five times
to get that. Way we get back into a big
story from tonight in THE. Nfl, Next this Is. Fox
is he tripping
