Speaker 2 (00:23):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 1 (00:28):
Greetings, Welcome inside our three, The Jason Smith Show with
my bas friend Mike Harmon, Well dressed Cobo, live from the.
Speaker 3 (00:36):
Fox Sports Radio studios. Where.
Speaker 1 (00:39):
Uh look, teams are making big moves in the NFL today, right,
The Jets get a couple of defensive linemen in the trade.
The Yeah Saints get a wide receiver from the Broncos.
You know, teams are starting to figure things out and
starting to make a little bit moves. Now, one big
move could wind up being do we trade for Anthony Richardson?
Speaker 3 (01:02):
Okay, now here's the thing.
Speaker 1 (01:06):
Richardson it loses the quarterback derby battle in Indianapolis. It's
announced a day ago, and it's not the case where
Shane Steiken said, we love both guys. It was a
really hard decision. We're gonna start with Dan and see
where we go. This was, hey, Dan, is I want
Dan to know he's our guy for the season. There's
not gonna be a short leash, not gonna be We're
(01:27):
not gonna go right to Anthony Richardson and play both guys,
because that would certainly be the knee jerk reaction or
the thing you say, well, let's make sure we play
Anthony Richardson. This was the cult saying, hey, Daniel Jones
is our guy, so right now the immediate fallout. This
is where you pounce if you think Anthony Richardson is
(01:47):
salvageable and you can darn old him, or you can
geno him, or you can be a team that takes
a guy that didn't work before but because of his
high draft pedigree you get him.
Speaker 3 (01:57):
In the right situation, he gets.
Speaker 1 (01:58):
A chance and tun of ah, hey here he is
playing great for you.
Speaker 3 (02:03):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (02:03):
This is a vulnerable situation right now for the Colts
where if you think Richardson is worthwhile, right, you think
you're his salvation. This is where you call the Colts
and you say, I got a fourth round pick for
you for Anthony Richardson, Right clearly you've moved on from him,
and and you're not. He's not part of your future.
He lost a quarterback derby battle to Daniel Jones. I
(02:24):
just think about that for a second. You lost a
quarterback derby battle to Daniel Jones. Right, so you got
to understand that things aren't going your way. And if
the culture in the situation right now where they're hoping
things go okay. But when the first reaction after you know,
Stichen says, he told Richardson. Yeah, I think Richard was
great when I told him about it, and he understood
(02:44):
and and and it was it was great.
Speaker 3 (02:46):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (02:46):
Richardson's agent says, yeah, I don't know if there's a
trust factor there. I don't know if I don't know
what his future is there in Indianapolis. You can't go
into this season at this point saying all right, yeah,
this is gonna work with Dan and Anthony Richardson, because
the minute Daniel Jones has a couple of bad games,
everybody's gonna want Richardson.
Speaker 3 (03:04):
Richardson's gonna start making some noise. His camp will start.
Speaker 1 (03:07):
Making if his agent's agent agent, if his agent's talking
about a trust factor. Now after losing the quarterback battle.
Imagine what's gonna happen after Daniel Jones's first bad couple
of games. So you know that navigating this season with
him on the roster isn't gonna be great. And yes,
does it look bad to say just you know, three
(03:28):
years after we took a guy in the top five
to be our franchise quarterback, we're spinning him off for
a fourth round pick.
Speaker 3 (03:34):
Yeah, but this is the reality of the NFL.
Speaker 1 (03:36):
Wait to wait until the offseason, then let him go
and say, okay, get no, there are teams right now
sitting in you know here we are on August twentieth,
where they're saying, you know, we could be the right
destination for Anthony Richardson. There's a couple of teams right
off the top of my head that that scream out saying, yes,
that I would call for and offer a fourth round
pick for Richardson. The cults are vulnerable. It's just like fantasy.
(03:58):
When someone's vulnerable, you approach them about right, we got
to make a trade. Let's make a train, Let's make
a trade. You approach them now, un said, I got
a fourth round pick for Anthony Richardson. Richardson's people would
I'm sure give the okay because this is now a
team that sees him as part of their future and
not part of their past, so they would be okay
with it. You recoup a fourth round pick, you go
with Daniel Jones right now, obviously win loser draw. Hey,
(04:18):
at the end of the season, you're getting a new
quarterback anyway, So why make this season any more difficult
than it has to be if you really have no
desire to play Anthony Richardson, And you clearly did not
need to say that when you went to your press
conference yesterday. Shane Steiken could have easily said, we're starting
with Dan, We're gonna go from there. We love both guys,
but Dan's a better guy right now. That's how normally
(04:39):
you do it, when you say, well, we got two guys,
we're not sure. I kind of want to save my
job just in case Daniel Jones thinks I'll go to
Anthony Richardson. The Fact that Colts went to that length
to say Daniel Jones is our starting quarterback tells me
Richardson has absolutely zero future even there this year. And
you can go get them fourth round pick. You can
get Anthony Richard right now.
Speaker 3 (05:00):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (05:01):
Conversely, I would just say it's also the opportunity for
Stich and he's got to give a strong answer here.
He can't be mealy mouthed. Yah, we'll see how it goes.
What are you gonna do? He comes walking in like
he's Harvey Dent flipping a coin. No, you can't do that,
all right, you're a coach. You gotta go in there
and say this is the guy that we're going with.
(05:22):
And there might be some bumps, but he's got to
be the guy. Anthony's still in the plans, he's got
to learn blah blah blah, and you go in and
pretend like you're operating from strength. Now, is Anthony Richardson
a what you would call a distress property right now?
Speaker 3 (05:38):
Absolutely?
Speaker 4 (05:39):
Is there such a thing as sunk costs that people
need to recognize in these and all other circumstances in
life relationships? You're in jobs, you've run your course with
cars that you now have decided I can't take it
back to the shop.
Speaker 3 (05:54):
Go on down the line.
Speaker 4 (05:55):
That's sandwich that's four days old that you keep going
back to.
Speaker 3 (05:59):
You gotta let it go.
Speaker 4 (06:00):
You gotta let it go it's done. What's gonna do
is ruin you. Same thing here with Stichan. We talk
about his job, job security, go into the front office.
Same thing, right, because Jim Irsay is not there. You
now have his children have taken over. You've got new
a new look ownership and a forward looking ownership. What
you did in the past, it's it's a new new
(06:23):
world order.
Speaker 3 (06:24):
Right. Anthony Richardson was part of.
Speaker 4 (06:26):
What you did, and maybe they're still I mean he's
twenty three years old, right, there's still opportunity for him
to be the guy. And I think when you're coming
out of the gate, and we've talked about the Colts, right,
they were a team that you put as a dark
horse Super Bowl.
Speaker 3 (06:40):
I mean you parlay that with your Schwarber. You got
some crazy.
Speaker 4 (06:43):
Ass odds man an LMBB plus one hundred to one
for the Colts to win it. But just the idea
of if they can be viable in the division, what
you need is adequate quarterbacking with the talent that's around.
We talk about Tyler Warrem, we talk about Jonathan Taylor.
We talked about what you have offensively and that you
get a decent defense in division that you could make
(07:06):
a little bit of noise. Well, if you think going
out of the gate, Daniel Jones the guy that gives
you that better shot. It's not condemning Anthony Richardson all
all the way to nothing. It's just saying where we're
at right now to start the season. We're zero and zero,
and we're trying to get off with the best, most
consistent play we can. And there's plenty of evidence. Although
(07:28):
everybody that comes on has just called him the like
a running can joke show, which like he had some
games where he was pretty good or was I completely wrong?
I think I've been watching this game a minute. I'm
not saying the overall results were great, the touchdown to
interception ratios were great. There were some good moments for
Daniel Jones. It hasn't always been a disaster. But he's
(07:52):
a guy that you're looking at a reclamation project on
a fourteen million dollar deal. Don't you want to kick
the tires and see how that works out for you?
Speaker 3 (07:59):
I think you do. So.
Speaker 1 (08:01):
If Anthony Richardson is available, there are two teams right
now that I call him right away where you don't
disrupt anything you have on your roster, and you potentially,
if you can turn him around, if you can darnold him,
if you can geno him, he might turn into something
for you.
Speaker 4 (08:19):
Because but then, yon, no, no, But now you've got
to predict three teams that are gonna touch the guy
before you get him.
Speaker 3 (08:23):
Now, now see what I did there the.
Speaker 1 (08:27):
First team, I'm gonna tell you because this is clearly
how it's also how they do things at quarterback. But
I'm the Steelers. I call the Colts right away, right,
because this is how the Steelers do it a quarterback. Right, Hey,
we want to do nothing for Russell Wilson. You want
to give up nothing for Justin Fields. You want to
do nothing for Aaron Rodgers. We want to shop in
the bargain beIN basement for Aaron. For quarterbacks, right, Anthony
(08:51):
Richardson fits into that category, because if you're the Steelers,
you know, no matter what, you're gonna have a season
at least around five hundred because you always do. So
you're not gonna be picking in the top half of
the first round. So getting a quarterback at the top
is gonna be really difficult. You clearly don't want to
spend on quarterbacks in the offseason. Could have done it
this offseason, you didn't do it. Richardson someone who you
(09:11):
get him in. He's clearly the number two guy behind
Aaron Rodgers, and yes, completely different skill sets. But Richardson
doesn't even need to play this year. You can sign
him and he could be your number three quarterback and
just you're gonna be in our system all year. You're
gonna be in Mike Tomlin's culture, which is a pretty
good culture for players, and you're gonna learn how to
do things the Mike Tomlin way. And I think Mike
Tomlin's success speaks for itself. You see the players that
(09:34):
even players of average talent that become really good players,
players of really good players that become great players. There
are much worse places to land than with the Steelers.
And if I'm Pittsburgh, I say fourth round pick Anthony
Richardson because you know you're moving on from Aaron Rodgers
in the offseason. And just think about if you turn
Richardson into something where all of a sudden, hey you
(09:55):
got a guy, you got a great first round talent.
Maybe it's a you're running the same kind of system
that you've wanted to run for a long time where hey,
here's Richardson running the ball like Cam Newton, you know,
maybe that number of times a game, and still you're
not throwing the football as much as other teams do
because clearly Mike Tomlin doesn't want to be part of that.
Like the Steelers are a perfect fit for him, and
(10:16):
again you could keep him as a third string quarterback,
not even play all year, but just in the culture
working on things playbook wise, Steelers. That fits on all
levels one hundred percent.
Speaker 4 (10:26):
That sounds like something somebody on this show suggests that
the cult should have done a couple of years ago.
The guy who'd only played thirteen collegiate games.
Speaker 3 (10:35):
I don't know who might have said that, who might
have been our Oh yeah, this guy.
Speaker 4 (10:41):
Yeah, it's it's one of those situations for Shane Steike
and got to look at the relationship. Clearly, the agent's
gonna be chirpy, particularly as we get further along in
this process and you start seeing some injuries and some
unsettled quarterback positions. The worst case scenario, of course, is
Daniel Jones up and throws up on himself the first
(11:02):
two or three weeks of the season, because then I
mean there's gonna be a marching band outside out of
Colt's headquarters with his agent, you know, the man with
the baton and maybe maybe dressed like P. T. Barnum
and going full Greatest Showman as we get through it.
But it is a difficult proposition to Steelers are a
(11:24):
good spot, right the expectations lowered and go in and
take the ball out of his hand, try to run,
play defense and take shots as you will. I don't
know if it's the right thing. I mean, Arthur Smith,
is he the guy to develop a quarterback? Can you
tell me so?
Speaker 3 (11:42):
No, he's not. He's not. But you're not asking him.
Speaker 1 (11:45):
You're not asking them to come in and win a
passing title, right, You're not asking him to come in
and throw thirty five touchdowns. You're saying, we want you
to come in and be a dual threat quarterback that
throws kind of when we want you to. But we're
still going to run the football forty times a game,
no matter who we haven't running back, whether we whether
it's Jalen Warren or frank O Harris, we're still gonna
run that football for you.
Speaker 3 (12:03):
Time doesn't matter, right.
Speaker 4 (12:04):
Well, the other thing we're gonna do is We're gonna
send you to the training facilities in do a partnership
with the WWE and NXT, and you're gonna learn how
to slide out of the wave, shoulder tackles and other things.
How do you get down and keep yourself out of
harm's way?
Speaker 3 (12:20):
One oh one?
Speaker 1 (12:22):
Now the other place that's the best fit for him.
And I'm telling you, and you're gonna say, Jason, I
agree with you. The next best fit And we joked
around about it last night. The next best fit is
the Jets because you have Aaron Glenn who has come
in and is building a new culture.
Speaker 3 (12:37):
Right.
Speaker 1 (12:37):
We joked around a few minutes ago with Monci Bolangio's
talking about the Jets having that secret practice a few
days ago where there were no coaches involved, just Aaron
Glenn was there overseeing things and the players led themselves,
something that Bill Parcells kind of accidentally gave birth to,
you know, thirty years ago. Aaron Glenn is a Bill
Parcells guy. He is building a terrific culture with the Jets.
(12:59):
No matter what you hear about justin fields, you know,
missing passes, and yes he's missing a lot of them.
You understand that, Hey, the offense is gonna look I
do say this as much as much grief as I
give Justin Fields. The offense is gonna look a lot
different in the regular season when all of a sudden,
all those design run plays and Justin Fields is taking
off more because the games count. Right there, There is
(13:20):
gonna be that added aspect to the Jets offense you
just don't see in the preseason. But I do would
like him to not. I'd like to see him not
bounce passes or sell him over people's heads No. Twenty
seven on seven and help us in shoulder pads. But
he's that guy. The more time goes on, I have
no doubt they got the best guy in the offseason,
head coaching wise, like he is. He's the new Bill Parcells,
(13:41):
right And you know me, I worship at the altar
of Bill Parcells and everything he was able to do
in the in the eighties and nineties in the NFL
and into the early two thousands, going to team to
team and building them back up and getting them to
be in a great team in a very short amount
of time. Like this is what Aaron Glenn saw. And
this is the same kind of guy that he is.
He's a hard ass, but he has his players backs,
and he's the new Bill Parcels and seeing this players
(14:04):
thing like they love that. The players love the fact, Hey,
coaches is trusting us with this, and they all will
go to war for Aaron Glenn. Already he is building
an incredible culture for Richardson to show up there in
a new offense that TENN Rankson was putting in right
now that's going to feature the same sort of play
calls and the same sort of responsibilities between Justin Fields
(14:26):
and Anthony Richardson. Hey, getting a year in this offense,
or you know, three weeks if Justin Fields is really bad,
getting a year in that offense and then in the
offseason saying, hey, wait a minute, now you have a
thing going on. We have a quarterback battle with Justin
Fields and Anthony Richardson, or depending on how things go.
But you can bring him in basically for free and
test him out for a year in a really good
(14:47):
culture where he could potentially be the answer. It's not expensive.
He's in a system that'd be very similar to what
he wants to run to what they're running with Justin Fields,
the Jets and the Steelers are clearly the two best
places i'd go fourth round pick if on the Jets
and the Steelers right now to say, come on in,
you're our guy. Two teams, different reasons at quarterback, different
(15:09):
ways they would handle it, but both are great fits.
Speaker 3 (15:11):
Full on conditional third day choice.
Speaker 4 (15:15):
Right, he's got in play some meaningful snaps for me
to give you a fourth at this point.
Speaker 3 (15:20):
Ah how that's how devalued he is with his fifty
completion rate injury history. But I think of four. But
I think a fourth round pick, a third round pick is.
Speaker 1 (15:29):
When you're looking at that's a starting player now and
that those are really tough to give up. But maybe,
but a fourth round pick clearly would get it done.
Or a fourth round pick and you give me back
a fifth round pick, something like that I.
Speaker 3 (15:41):
Think would do it. Again.
Speaker 1 (15:43):
The Colts are a little panicky right now. You want
to give them no reason to say no, I'm okay
with a fourth round pick for a guy that could
potentially be.
Speaker 3 (15:50):
Think about the risk reward. If Anthony Richmond doesn't.
Speaker 1 (15:52):
Work out, he's a fourth round pick, right, Okay, So
a fourth round pick didn't work out, there's fourth round
picks don't work out all the time. You get into
the time you know your three round picks. Normally they
stay with the team two three years. They get a
chance to make to show you they really can't do
it before they move on from them. But a fourth
round but yeah, okay, fourth round is okay. The general
perception of that line is drawn between the early round
(16:14):
of the draft and the late round of the draft,
is right between three and four. So if that happened
to in is a fourth round pick, Yeah, I'm all
right with that, And I think most seems to be
okay because if you hit it right on it, boy,
what a bargain it is.
Speaker 3 (16:25):
What a bargain is that you got that for four?
You had a quarterback there for that fourth round pick.
Speaker 4 (16:29):
Yeah. I think the guy who's most anxious it ain't
in the building. It ain't stiking, it ain't the staff.
They're worried about Game one and making sure they're ready
and ready to play. Richardson might have a little bit
of that. I like to think the guy as a professional,
I think he learned a lesson from being brutally honest
about being too tired, because I mean, he's been wearing
(16:49):
that and he will continue to That might be the
first paragraph in his Wikipedia page forever in a day
is his agent because it's like that's second contract for
quarterbacks would have been huge, man, that would have been huge.
Speaker 1 (17:04):
Killing it's killing me my three percent. Come on, exit
out bout a Fresca exit swollen Dome. The Jason Smith
Show with my best friend Mike Carmon live from the
Fox Sports Radio studio. So they go, Hey, Steelers, Jets,
go get Anthony Richardson right now, right now, you.
Speaker 3 (17:20):
Get them, you can get him. Uh.
Speaker 1 (17:21):
Coming up next, we get back into a big story
out of the NFL because something we said a couple
of days ago has come back home to roost already.
Speaker 3 (17:31):
That's next right here, Jason and Mike Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 1 (18:24):
Sports Radio, The Jason Smith Show with my best friend
Mike Harmon. Yeah, well, who needs Caitlin Clark when you
have Paige Beckers and Kelsey Plumb.
Speaker 3 (18:34):
How about that battle?
Speaker 1 (18:36):
Absolute thriller. Just got to watch the end of it.
A couple minutes ago. The La Sparks beat the Wings
tonight eighty one point eighty despite a rookie record forty
four points from Paige Becker's In defeat for the Wings,
I'd breaking Candace Parker's previous record forty four for her tonight.
Speaker 3 (18:59):
She was seventeen of twenty one from the floor.
Speaker 4 (19:02):
Smith, The seasons weren't the highlights. In one game, my goodness,
I went a passage.
Speaker 3 (19:08):
I mean she is.
Speaker 1 (19:09):
She is better than Look, she's not Caitlyn Clark, obviously
because the way Kitlyn Clark moves the needle. But to
follow up Caitlyn Clark with Paige Beckers, like you, if
you're the WNBU are saying, man, we are just rolling
sevens when it comes to players coming in and attention.
You know, Becker's coming out of Yukon, having the long
career that she did, capping it off the national title,
(19:29):
coming in with all kinds of confidence that she has,
like this has been an unbelievable year, better than they
even thought it was gonna be for her. Right, I
thought it's gonna be a little bit of a welcome
with the WNBA thing. And this is where she's got
to call Kitlyn Clark and say thank you for blazing
the trail and making everybody wear themselves out welcoming you
to the league last year.
Speaker 3 (19:46):
So it's been a little bit easier for me this year.
Speaker 1 (19:48):
Right, And clearly, you know Caitlyn Clark coming in with
all the hype, you saw the jealousy last year, there's
no jealousy for Paige Beckers.
Speaker 3 (19:54):
I haven't one bit of all.
Speaker 1 (19:56):
I can't believe this or why are we pay spending
so much attention on pay Beckers? So clearly you know
again the jealousy, the feelings are there specifically for Caitlyn
Clark and not Paige Beckers. But Beckers comes out on
the short end of this because of the buzzer beater
by Kelsey Plum, who and the Sparks at DJ clearly
(20:17):
getting sparked to great play over the past couple of months.
The La Sparks now one game under five hundred after
Kelsey Plum her twentieth point of the night. Is this
buzzer beaters? This is where you play the Kitlyn the
Kelsey Plum buzzer beater.
Speaker 2 (20:37):
Oh I like that one.
Speaker 3 (20:38):
Let me play Yeah, okay, great, thanks With.
Speaker 4 (20:40):
Two seconds Plumb the runner fake shot, she got.
Speaker 3 (20:44):
It, Kelsey win.
Speaker 1 (20:49):
So there was Sparks TV on the call eighty one eighty.
Now I want to just say this about this play,
right Kelsey Plum. If you didn't know Kelsey Plum, clearly,
boy you knew she was left handed dominant, but wow,
she is really left handed reliant because she's on the
right side of the court.
Speaker 3 (21:05):
And no, no, I'm gonna come all the way around
with my.
Speaker 1 (21:08):
Left because I can't get to the hoop with my
right hand.
Speaker 3 (21:12):
I just can't do it. Well. To be fair, they
did a good job of picking her up.
Speaker 4 (21:16):
I mean they did they until they until they didn't
and she got into the lane.
Speaker 1 (21:19):
Well, that's the thing is that I can't believe that
I can't tell who the defender is. But Kelsey Plum
comes all the way back from the right wing, all
the way around beyond the three point line to cut
in down the middle of the lane towards the hoop,
and one of the defenders and I can't tell it
was because I can't I can't see the replay, but
one of the defenders could have easily stepped in and
(21:40):
forced her to pull up, and instead she moved to
the side like Kelsey Plumb was gonna dish it. Like
That's where you have to know as a player. Hey,
the shot clock is nearing zero. She's not gonna risk
a pass out here. And what do I want? Would
I rather have Kelsey Plumb driving to the to the
net for potential short shot OR'd rather have her dishing
off to a teammate for a shot from twenty five
(22:00):
feet out? But instead the defender decides I'm just gonna
get out of her way, and the best replay the
behind the from from the behind the basket replay where
the defenders goes like hey, like there was a force
field and she just goes out of the way to
go back, Like Kelsey Plumb is not dishing the ball
at that point, you are stopping her and forcing her
into a into a pull up jumper or something she
(22:21):
doesn't want to do. Instead, you allow her to get
right to the hoop for a close in bank shot
to win the game. Like that's a great play by
Kelsey Plumb, but she's saying, thank you so much for
that defender just backing out of the way.
Speaker 3 (22:33):
No, it's it.
Speaker 4 (22:33):
I mean still goes up around the pre throw line
and the bank was open. Get the w So you
get both sides of it. You get the Beckers brilliance,
so you have the jumping forward because, let's face it,
with the Sparks win, the Wings are now officially eliminated
from playoff contention, as are the Chicago Sky.
Speaker 1 (22:57):
Angela first game back, come on manthing, Yeah, Kelsey, Well,
now she wants to make it like it's Jordan to
where it just becomes a the Angels, and everybody's got
the angel or the Reeses.
Speaker 3 (23:15):
But ifact you said, I immediately want chocolate and peanut butter.
Speaker 4 (23:18):
Yeah, oh yeah, you got you gotta you gotta figure
out that.
Speaker 3 (23:20):
Think here's the thing.
Speaker 1 (23:21):
I think if you want to call it the Reeses,
there's gonna be you're gonna get a cease and desist.
Speaker 3 (23:26):
I'm just thinking that. Yeah, I think you would get that.
I I a little bit. You would get a little problematic.
Speaker 6 (23:32):
You know.
Speaker 4 (23:32):
My favorite Kelsey Plumb of the week though, was the
prior game where she got announced and she went over
to take umbrage with the announcer going, hey, I'm not
taller than that, squeeze it in and then like you
could see the the public address announcer showing her the
list that was provided by the w n b A,
and she was pissed, and you know, a guard standing.
(23:59):
I think it was made her five seven or or
five six instead of five eight, five eight.
Speaker 1 (24:05):
Man, that's how tall I am. You don't cheat me
on anything, dare you?
Speaker 3 (24:11):
Yeah? No?
Speaker 1 (24:12):
Look and and I hear I hear her on that
because I used to have Pam and I went when
when I was younger, we used.
Speaker 3 (24:19):
To have this, this this.
Speaker 1 (24:22):
Disagreement, like we you know, we knew right away we
were gonna be together and everything, but the disagreement we
had over who was taller, it would get radcho I'm tall, No,
we're no, you're not. Yes, I'm tall with you. I
am five nine. You are five eight and three quarters.
Look when we go to the to the that's only
because you have so much hair. But this is back
with the longing together.
Speaker 3 (24:42):
You got so much hair.
Speaker 1 (24:43):
I'm like, no, I am tall, and it would be
I'm like no, and I would get really mad, Like
if I would go to the doctor that they would
measure us, okay height five eight, No, five nine, doctor five,
I mean five nine. Like I'm standing up a little bit.
I'm five nine. I just so you know, I'm not
I'm not shrinking yet. I'm five nine, Okay, okay, five nine,
So I I can I completely am with Kelsey Plumb
on that.
Speaker 4 (25:03):
Well. I mean, look, we're gonna shrink eventually, so don't
take the inch from me now. And look, we know,
if there's anything else in the marketplace, heidism is a
real thing.
Speaker 3 (25:13):
Yeah, whether you're an.
Speaker 4 (25:14):
Athlete, whether you're filling out a profile for many other things.
You know there there's a big deal when when you're
a little bit shorter, and as a guy who is
built like a fire plug, I know that all too well.
Speaker 1 (25:29):
Exit out about a fresca, Exit swollen dome the Jason
Smith Show with my best friend Mike Carmon. But great
night for Kelsey Plum. Say thank you to the defender
for allowing you to get to the hoop and make
that bucket.
Speaker 3 (25:40):
But we talked about him, so it was heroism by her. Yeah, okay,
a very that's true. That's true.
Speaker 1 (25:46):
Hey, I got I got you at Fox Sports Ray
they're gona talk about you nationally.
Speaker 3 (25:49):
You're the front page of ESPN dot com. Congratula. We
did it. We did it everybody. Maybe there's a script
for the w NBA.
Speaker 1 (25:57):
Maybe may tell how to find out what's trending.
Speaker 3 (26:02):
In the wide world of sports.
Speaker 1 (26:04):
From someone who's been called the Angel Reese of Fox
Sports Radio, she's got her own sneaker and it's called
the Mancess.
Speaker 6 (26:16):
I would love to have my own sneaker. Stop that
would be my jam.
Speaker 7 (26:21):
Try this again. There we go, love it, love it,
Thank you.
Speaker 6 (26:24):
Though it's a I feel very ready to party and
give an update with that song.
Speaker 7 (26:28):
It inspires me. Thank you, thank you.
Speaker 6 (26:30):
All right, Yeah, you guys talked about that shot by
Kelsey Plumb.
Speaker 7 (26:33):
I agree.
Speaker 6 (26:34):
Where was the defense on that even when she ran
in the girl behind her who seemed much taller than her.
Speaker 7 (26:39):
Yeah, could have just put her like hand over her.
Speaker 3 (26:42):
Chased her all the way around and then still let
her take the shit.
Speaker 6 (26:45):
And it's an easy shot, like I And good for
Kelsey Plumb on going for the backboard instead of trying
to do like a tear drop and missing because you know,
some people want to score in style and then they missed.
Speaker 7 (26:56):
She went just for the backboard, the most basic way
to score. But yeah, that defense was no. The Padres
hit four Oh wait wait wait wait wait?
Speaker 3 (27:04):
Did you did you bet the wings in this game?
Is that? Why are upset? No wings? But she did?
Speaker 4 (27:08):
I think they were getting points, so I think, yeah, you're.
Speaker 3 (27:12):
Right money line. No no, no, no, no, no, you
don't know what we're talking about.
Speaker 4 (27:16):
It.
Speaker 1 (27:17):
I meant, did you bet wings with Rod Parker? Oh
that's right, okay.
Speaker 7 (27:22):
Yeah, see he wants all flats.
Speaker 6 (27:24):
By the way, The Padres hit four home runs in
San Diego as they crushed the Giants eight to one,
while the Rockies defeated the Dodgers eight to three. He
show he Tani on the mount to start things off.
Pitch five innings, gave up nine hits and five earned runs.
So now the Padres are one game back of the
Dodgers for the NL West is going to go back
and forth. The Yankees have won five in a row,
(27:45):
outscoring the race six four and ten innings. John Carlos
stan pinch hitting in the tenth inning and delivers with
the go ahead two runs. Shot Austin Wells and Trent
Grisham both homer twice in their win.
Speaker 7 (27:56):
Today.
Speaker 6 (27:56):
The Cubs held on four to three against the Brewers.
That's their third straight against Milwaukee. The Nationals top the
Mets five to four. The Braves edge the White Sox
one zero. The Rangers took the lead in the ninth inning.
Kyle he got Shioka a three rbi double in the
ninth inning and they won six to three at the
Royals and the Angels took down the Reds two to one,
but the Reds are still one game back of the
(28:18):
Mets for the final.
Speaker 3 (28:19):
Games in the lost column. Two games.
Speaker 7 (28:23):
For the final longguard spot. In the National League.
Speaker 6 (28:26):
Earlier today, Kyle Schwarber hit home rund number forty five
of the season. He leaves the National League and the
Phillies just took down the Mariners eleven to two to
complete a three game sweep. The Tigers also took down
the Astros seven to two. When it comes to the NFL,
preseason continues tomorrow, but Saints head coach Killen Moore said
that both Tyler Shook and Spencer Raveler would play in
their final preseason game over the weekend. Bengals head coach
(28:48):
Zach Taylor says that Joe Burrow and the starters will
not play in their final preseason game. The Chiefs are
sending wide receivers Sky Moore to the San Francisco forty
nine Ers. The teams are going to swap six and
seventh round picks in twenty twenty seven, and the forty
nine Ers probably could use another wide receiver as the
league is suspending DeMarcus Robinson for the first three games
of the regular season for violating the league's substance abuse policy.
Speaker 7 (29:11):
Rayvends had a scare with Lamar Jackson.
Speaker 3 (29:13):
Today.
Speaker 7 (29:13):
He left practice, but he's fine. He just was stepped
on on his foot. Ravens stole reporters that he is fine.
Back to you guys, thanks.
Speaker 3 (29:22):
A bunch of monching.
Speaker 4 (29:23):
Okay, I got, I got two odds things from that game.
Okay to odds odds odds?
Speaker 3 (29:29):
Okay, sparks were eight point favorites. Got Okay? See right,
you guys.
Speaker 4 (29:34):
Want to guess what the points, rebounds and assists wager
for Page Beckers was for this game? Oh boys, assists
rebounds the total points rebounds plus six thirty.
Speaker 7 (29:45):
Yeah, like thirty three twenty eight and a half?
Speaker 3 (29:48):
Oh wow? I mean you were playing Wills long before
this game ended.
Speaker 1 (29:54):
Blue past that, that's for sureow all right now now, Mantie,
I'm glader because I got a question for you, Yes,
and for you and for you too, Harmon, because this
is a big thing.
Speaker 3 (30:03):
Because I know my answer, I want to know what
your answer is.
Speaker 1 (30:08):
How long would you stand in line for a free
hamburger or cheeseburger and a good one before you would say,
you know what, it's too long, I can't stand in
this line anymore?
Speaker 3 (30:19):
How long?
Speaker 1 (30:20):
How many minutes would you stand in a line for
a free hamburger cheeseburger?
Speaker 7 (30:25):
But a good one, good one.
Speaker 4 (30:27):
I've got a couple of questions that have like a
Kobe beef one or a wag you or you know, hey,
I add like a a an event like listen. No, no,
it's like me and some bodies that we might be
drunk off our.
Speaker 3 (30:42):
Hawk steak and putting it between two pieces of bread. No,
you're just in line to.
Speaker 1 (30:48):
Get a free sure, okay, in theory, that is not happened.
Speaker 3 (30:52):
Okay, in and out in five guys are not offering this.
Okay to got either.
Speaker 7 (30:58):
But you're trying to get to ten minutes, okay for free.
Speaker 6 (31:01):
Maybe maybe twenty twenty minutes for free.
Speaker 3 (31:06):
Okay, we're still talking like all right, pretty minimal time. No, right,
what if it was an event?
Speaker 1 (31:12):
What if actual waiting in line was an event waiting
for that burger?
Speaker 7 (31:17):
Oh then maybe like an hour okay.
Speaker 1 (31:21):
Basically that's kind of what the lines were today in Milwaukee.
Speaker 3 (31:24):
Because this was.
Speaker 1 (31:25):
George web Burger Day, right, was the big story a
week ago and the Brewers.
Speaker 3 (31:30):
Won their twelfth game in a row.
Speaker 1 (31:32):
George web Burger said, hey, free burgers for everybody in
Milwaukee area. They gave out the burgers and the vouchers today,
Over one hundred thousand vouchers were handed out today. Lines
were around the block at locate, and there's harmon how
many locations of this place is there?
Speaker 3 (31:49):
The George Web Burgers.
Speaker 4 (31:50):
Now they've got thirty one locations. What I'm trying to
ascertain is what the final true burger count was, because
my understanding is the vouchers were given away.
Speaker 1 (31:58):
Burger count No, no, no, you sound like Nate Silver on
five thirty eight.
Speaker 3 (32:02):
What's the true burger country?
Speaker 4 (32:04):
Look, I want veracity of where you came from, where
you're at, who you are. No thirty one locations, But
my understanding is they'd given away one hundred thousand vouchers
before today. So the idea being if you couldn't, you know,
get to a location today, you now have a voucher
in your hand. Again, they know you're not just buying
just one if they're giving you satchels for twenty of
(32:26):
seven burgers for twenty dollars, right, twenty dollars thirteen cents.
So lines around the block plus the one hundred thousand
is I think where we're at. So we're talking a
couple hundred thousand burgers. Not to mention whatever hell else
you're ordering.
Speaker 1 (32:41):
Now, that's the thing, because what was the the record before?
It was like like one hundred and twenty thousand vouchers
or something like that.
Speaker 3 (32:47):
Well, yeah, they'd gotten to it.
Speaker 4 (32:49):
I think the total count vouchers plus burgers was near
to it, like one hundred and seventy thousand last time
they did it.
Speaker 1 (32:57):
Man, over two hundred thousand vouchers two thousand today about that?
My goodness, my good So now, so half out, I'd
go a half hour for that.
Speaker 3 (33:05):
That's some time.
Speaker 4 (33:06):
Like if we're just hanging around and we're shooting the breeze,
then then yeah, I mean the thirty minutes is gonna
go by fast because we're going to talk about two
or three movies that we've seen. Yeah, we're going to
talk about how the Brewers now are in a tailspin
losing three straight to the Cubs. So I need that
burger as consolation. Yeah, oh I need a consolation burger. No,
but we won the games. No, I mean I need
(33:27):
to be consoled because Monsey, what would you get? I mean,
they've got an eclectic menu. I mean, you're not eating
the burgers, so like, what are we doing?
Speaker 3 (33:33):
Well?
Speaker 6 (33:33):
I put myself in the position of thinking that would
get a veggie burger, but you know, yeah, but fries.
Speaker 7 (33:41):
I would stand question, do they have? Very good question?
Speaker 1 (33:45):
Monty would get to the front of the line, that'd
say and and and and you know, the tired cashier
would go, welcome to George web Berger. What would you like,
I'm gonna have a veggie burger and fries. That's not
part of the deal.
Speaker 3 (33:57):
Yeah, I know. Did you really wait in line all
the time to not get a free burger? This? This
is what I want. Okay, she's filming the guy the
whole time. It's like, yeah, here we go.
Speaker 7 (34:07):
That's good.
Speaker 1 (34:07):
Let's uh, let's get a veggie burger and fries for
the women in frontier. Again, not a free burger. You
know you're gonna make me go to my cash till.
I'm not ringing up anybody right now.
Speaker 3 (34:17):
Everything is free. But no, no, no, let me go
do it just because you have to have this.
Speaker 1 (34:22):
Can I get a manager to the front, please, with
a key, Manager to the front, please, with the key.
Speaker 7 (34:26):
Yes, I would expect the veggie burger.
Speaker 6 (34:28):
That's better than if I get to the front and
the girl's like, we only had seven veggie burgers and
we just get the last one.
Speaker 1 (34:35):
Here's about you for a veggie burger for the teacher
and the person right before you got six? Yeah, hey, exactly,
I'll take six of those veggie burgers, all right. Thanks
a bunch of watching Jason Smith Mike Carbon live from
the Fox Sports Radio studios. Coming up next, a big
bold statement. You think you know who the nl MVP
is right now? I don't think you do. That's next
(34:57):
right here, Jason and Mike Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 8 (35:00):
Jason, I'd wait twenty minutes too, thanks for asking, not
for you don't even eat meat. You didn't ask.
Speaker 1 (35:05):
You would just wait for the bun and say, look,
I just like the bun and some ketchup.
Speaker 8 (35:08):
Jason, you literally bought wings and I ate them in
front of you. Try me again. You our sponsoring, please?
Speaker 3 (35:14):
Yeah, but no, but listen listen. Those were plant based wings.
Speaker 8 (35:18):
Hey?
Speaker 3 (35:18):
Please?
Speaker 8 (35:19):
Do I read?
Speaker 3 (35:20):
There were plenty?
Speaker 8 (35:26):
No read?
Speaker 1 (35:28):
No, I'm good man. No, let's see that I'm paying
attention to the show. I'm good god.
Speaker 8 (35:31):
If you're listening, that was not my choice.
Speaker 2 (35:34):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern seven
pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 1 (35:44):
Fox Sports Radio, The Jason Smith Show with My best
friend Mike Harmon Partner America League MVP. That's pretty easy, right, Aaron,
Judge cal Rally, Right, that's one of those two most
likely Judge, but Judge cal Rawley, there's really nobody else, right,
one of these guys is gonna win it National League. Well,
it's gonna be Pete crow Armstrong. Yeah, not so fat, No,
(36:06):
not anymore. The guy's eight fan listen the thing with
and I told you this about Pete crow Armstrong, right,
the one thing I told you that when he's going good,
he's going good. But man, the guy he's like he's
like Vladimir Guerrero, except from a left handed side.
Speaker 3 (36:20):
Like he swings at everything. No, he does. He is
a first half.
Speaker 1 (36:25):
He is a free swinger, and eventually, if you're that
much of a free swinger, you're gonna hit the skids.
And Pete crow Armstrong has really hit the skids in
the month of August.
Speaker 4 (36:33):
Didn't help that his tag team partner Kyle Tucker also
hasn't been able to hit today. Oh yeah, no, there's
a broken bone.
Speaker 3 (36:40):
That's healing. Oh great. Oh yeah, we're kind of hop.
Speaker 4 (36:44):
That we have here that didn't notice this or was
that not disclosed. That's a problem all those people that
were betting on him day to day to hit dingers.
Speaker 3 (36:53):
Yeah, it's healing and we're fine. Yeah, it's good.
Speaker 1 (36:56):
We're only six games out in first place. Now, when
we were in first place about a go, No, oh,
we're good. We're only six games out National League. Well
shoe heo Tani, Yeah, not so much. Shootani's having a
fantastic year, right, he's having another really really good year.
But there is somebody having a better year. And I
know the odds don't show it right now, but I'm
(37:17):
not saying but for entertainment purposes only, while the odds
on this guy, I would go get some because when
it comes down to it, he's the MVP of the
National League. Make it forty five home runs now for
Kyle Schwarber. This is where you play the Kyle Schwarber
(37:38):
home run.
Speaker 3 (37:39):
Oh I love Kyle.
Speaker 9 (37:40):
Okay, good hit high, deep bright field, back at the
wall and looking up and that is gone, just cleared
over the railing first row and Kyle Schwarber with home
run number forty five.
Speaker 1 (37:57):
Phillies Radio Network on the call. Schwarber's now got forty
five home runs to lead the National League. He's got
one more than show hey, Otani and you can you
can saber metrics this thing and go well. Otani's ops
is a little higher, his war is a little higher,
which I mean by a little bit, right it is.
Speaker 3 (38:15):
But Schwarber's got forty five home runs. He's knocked in
one hundred and nine runs. Okay, the most.
Speaker 1 (38:21):
Important numbers for guys like Schwarber and Otani are RBIs, right,
That's what it is. And Schwarber's got one hundred and
nine RBIs and Otani's got eighty three.
Speaker 3 (38:29):
All right.
Speaker 1 (38:30):
He is by far and away having a better, more
powerful year than Otani's. Yes, Sotani's hitting for a higher average,
but the impact that Schwarber has had on the Phillies, right,
the Dodgers are filled with a bunch of all stars.
Otani is clearly the best player in baseball, but the
best player is not always the MVP. Schwarber is carrying
(38:50):
the Phillies this year. This is not a great Bryce
Harper year. He's been injured in and out of the
lineup earlier in the season. Schwarber's been the one constant,
right you brought the stat earlier in this show, show
how many series in a row? Now he's homered. He
has been so consistent, and for a guy who's maybe
been building towards this year his entire career, right like,
he's always been Babe Schwarber, and now he's thirty two
(39:11):
years old. You looking for that one year where he
puts all the home runs together and has that kind
of year. He's gonna blow past his career highs in
just about every single category. He has carried the phillies
when you talk about most valuable player, he has been
the most valuable player in the National League this season.
Speaker 4 (39:28):
He's already surpassed with his exploits today his RBI total,
which was the same back to back years one hundred
and four rbi and twenty three and twenty four. His
stolen base total is only what seven behind? Show Heyotani,
so you know that fifty to fifty of a year ago.
Otani averted disaster earlier during his start, he took a
(39:49):
line drive off his leg. He'll be monitored, scheduled day
off tomorrow. Congratulations for you starting him today because you
got your hit to extend your streak if I remember correctly,
So you got that going for you. But Schwarber's not
winning any batting titles. O'tani in the mid two eighties
he scored more runs than Schwarber has. But yeah, as
(40:09):
you alluded to, the odds, currently o'tani is still minus
twenty thousand, that's right, and Schwarber's sitting at plus fifteen hundred.
So fifteen to one bet implied odds to all of
this is he's got about a five percent chance.
Speaker 1 (40:26):
I'm telling you, man, I love those odds. I'm saying
for entertainment purposes only, boy, ID love those odds for
never tell me the odds.
Speaker 3 (40:34):
I'm telling you.
Speaker 1 (40:36):
Exit out about a Fresca exit swalling down the Jason
Smith Show with my best.
Speaker 3 (40:40):
Friend Mike Harmon.
Speaker 1 (40:41):
Coming up next, we get back into a big NFL
story of the day. It's not often that a story
about a backup quarterback tells you all you need to
know about the number one overall pick in the draft.
Speaker 3 (40:52):
That's next, Fox
