Jason and Mike have a different take on the whole Shedeur Sanders/Cleveland Browns drama. The Washington Commanders got completely played and panicked with a horrendous contract extension to Terry McLaurin. And the Cincinnati Bengals did something right. Wow. Not often that's said!

putting this content out for you every single night. Send
it to family and friends, comment and tell me I'm pretty.

Speaker 2 (00:32):
All of those time.

Speaker 1 (00:32):
Oh look at that.

Speaker 2 (00:34):
I just want to be loved. Is that so wrong?

Speaker 3 (00:36):
No?

Speaker 1 (00:37):
No, no, no, no, I think it's fine. I think
that's a fine thing to say.

Speaker 2 (00:39):
And this is another channel by which people can tell
me yeah exactly. Subscribing and then evangelizing to friends and family.

Speaker 1 (00:48):
Right now, as we sit, Dodgers lead the Reds one nothing,
Red's bat in the top of the fourth inning. I
could really use a win the next cue a couple
of weeks. But that's okay.

Speaker 2 (00:58):
You keep driving to speak that in new existence.

Speaker 1 (01:01):
Meanwhile, more actually I should say clarity. I'm not sure
sure if it's clarity over to. But with cutdown Day
coming in the NFL tomorrow, we had some big news
that which we're gonna get to a lot over the
next half hour. Right we had trades, we have extensions
agreed to, and a deal that just happened basically right
before we went on the air tonight. Scratch another quarterback

(01:23):
off of the Cleveland Browns list of five guys are
gonna start this year. Can't believe that killed you. Kenny
Pickett is no longer a Cleveland brown a guy they
identified in the offseason saying he's gonna be our bridge quarterback.
We love Kenny Pickett. Nope, Kenny Pickett is now a
member of the Las Vegas Raided.

Speaker 2 (01:44):
Yeah, thank god.

Speaker 1 (01:47):
The Browns get a fifth round pick in twenty twenty
six for Kenny Pickett. Back. Picket's gonna back up Gino Smith, obviously,
the Raiders having that need after Aidan O'Connell fracture's right
wrist in the finale against the Cardinals. And so now
Kenny Pickett, who we thought was going to get in there.
I thought he was gonna be in there second on
the list of five guy quarterbacks, it would go Flaco Pickett, Sanders, Gabriel,

(02:09):
and then Tyler Huntley for the final game of the season.
Now Kenny Pickett is out, he's now a Raider, they'll
still start five quarterbacks. I just need to figure out
who that fifth guy is gonna be. Yeah, now we
just need to because now it's going to go Flaco, Gabriel, Sanders.
They'll bring Tyler Huntley back at some point, I'm sure,
so he'll be back, he'll play, and then he'll be
a fifth guy at some point. Yeah, it could be

(02:30):
Brady Quinn, You're right, be right, Frost. But could be
Brady Quinn once with the Browns back in what two
thousand and seven draft class. Could be Derek Anderson, could
be Spurgeon Win. You never know, you got Yeah, how
far away can we? How far away can we really be?
From Johnny Manziel.

Speaker 2 (02:46):
Now, I was excited because I thought Pickett in this
show I did yesterday with Jared Smith Fox Sports Sunday,
thought with the O'Connell move that Pickett would get traded there. Now,
he was always the trade candidate so long as o
Flacco was kept in bubble wrapping upright for week one,
but yeah, it does kill your parlay. Yeah yeah, no,

(03:06):
I mean huntly go back and drove that two minute
drive that everybody got mad about over the weekend. So
some good will, but behind obviously Dylan Gabriel and Shadoor Sanders.

Speaker 1 (03:20):
Well, I mean really I'm bummed because I had that
there was such a great five quarterback with the with
the guys in order, and now Kenny Pickett's gonna be
in Las.

Speaker 2 (03:29):
Vegas now and a half hour we could talk about
that baseball parlay because I did get the answer to
that one. We'll get back to that later on. But yeah,
just a very curious sort as is cut down days.
So all those quarterbacks of yesteryear that you thought we're
gonna hang on with, no, now not so fast. Your
guy Mike White.

Speaker 1 (03:48):
Cut yeah out yeah, quarterbacks of God.

Speaker 2 (03:51):
But yeah, so we get a little bit of a
shuffle over these last twenty four hours and look cut
downs tomorrow. So we still have more to come now
with Shadoor Sanders.

Speaker 1 (04:01):
Something a little different from what you've heard the past
few days about crazy stuff like Shador Sanders was told
not to be draft. NFL told teams not to draft
Shador Sanders. Kevin Stefanski is ruining Shador Sanders on purpose.
All right, let's understand a couple of things here before
you get too crazy with stuff. Right. I understand the
Browns are tanking and they're looking for arch Man. I

(04:23):
understand that. I get all of that, right, I get
all of that. But they didn't have to take them. Okay,
so they didn't have to take them. They could have
done very well this year with Joe Flaco and Kenny
Pickett and Dylan Gabriel. They could have done very well
with them, but they went out to get Shador Sanders.
All right, this is not something where the Browns are
out to absolutely ruin a guy. Now, why is Sanders

(04:46):
where he is now? He had a really poor game
this weekend, right to show that. Okay, really not ready yet,
and I understand that. But why has this been gone
so slow for Shador Sanders? And one reason I'm going
to give you something we've talked about a little bit before,
and one is something new that I want to open
open everybody's eyes to that. Okay, now you're gonna say, okay,

(05:08):
this is why things have been going so slow? Right?
Number One, thing with Tchador Sanders, I said, is what
the talent is there?

Speaker 2 (05:13):
Right?

Speaker 1 (05:13):
Obviously, everybody comes along at their own pace, and clearly
he's maybe a little bit ahead. With a great first
preseason game. He had bad second game he had I
understand that, you know, and got hurt and missed that
and miss miss middleg But clearly the Browns it's it's
much different to be a starting quarterback at a big
time D one school and to be the face of

(05:33):
a franchise that is worth a billion dollars, and the
Browns want to make sure that when schaudor Sanders starts
that he is responsible enough and he is mature enough
to not go through knucklehead headlines like we've seen since
he got drafted. We had the speeding situations, two of them.
We had him yelling at a player in the middle

(05:55):
of his first debut right because he had to scramble
and got sacked. We had him get into it with
a reporter right after the game is over because he
didn't say anything nice about him. Now, clearly that was
a little overblown, but still, why are you doing this? Right?
So I have to I have to understand, you have
to understand that the Browns have to see this more
as just the guy is good, put him in and

(06:15):
let him play. Right. You've had instances now since he's
become a Brown where you have to worry. Okay, I
for mak him the starting quarterback. Is he ready for this?
Is he is he responsible enough to people handle being
the face of franchis or he's still gonna be I'm
great and whatever I do is fine. And if you
hate me, it's your fault. Okay, you can do that
at some positions in the NFL, you can't really do
it at quarterback. So it's got to it's not just

(06:38):
can you handle it physically? It's physically, it's emotionally. It's responsibly.
Can you be the face of a franchise because that's
who you are if you're a quarterback. And clearly this
is something that I understand that Shador Sanders is still
struggling with and has to and and has to improve upon.
If the Browns are gonna make him the quarterback because
they don't want to make him the quarterback and say, well,

(06:58):
we're putting out pr fires every couple of days. And
I don't even stuff with dian I don't even I
mean all the look at the stuff that's going on
that Chador has kind of brought on himself a little bit.
They don't want to go through that. They've been embarrassed
enough the last few years, so that part of it
I kind of understand. Or Hey, that Chador, you need
to show that we can trust you, because this, again,
being the face of a billion dollar corporation is more

(07:19):
than just Hey, he can sling it and he's tough
and he's a talented quarterback. You're not protected by your dad,
You're not protected by a You can do that in
college football. Some stuff you could do there you can't
do in the NFL.

Speaker 2 (07:29):
Yeah, I mean, look, we just get down to brass tacks.
I mean, Kevin Stefanski's the guy with the track record.
He's got a history. As much as we can mock
the Browns and a lot of their decision making throughout
the years. You know, Stefanski, I think to a degree,
has earned the He knows what he's doing, so you
trust the process as it were. To your point, a

(07:52):
lot of the off field and even on field stuff,
getting after teammates, getting after opponents, right, we go back
to his college days of stalking guys like setting up
to the big showdowns and anytime someone might have said
something that could be seen as untoward towards Dion, towards Shador,

(08:14):
towards his teammates, that he's certainly taken umbrage with it
throughout the process, and we have we'll never know one
hundred percent what's going on in meeting rooms going back
to the draft and what caused him to fall fully
to the fifth round. You know, Eric Dickerson and so
many others trying to talk about the position he's been

(08:35):
put in, and yes, when you're a backup, you play
with backup players, right. Jeff Schwartz, our teammate here, does
countdown on Sunday mornings here on Fox Sports Radio, talking
about it through his own experience, Like nobody's going and
ordering the code red for a backup lineman who's fighting
to earn a roster spot to play poorly. If anything,

(08:59):
what we saw in that sack that has been shown
a million times and played a million times here on
Fox Sports Radio that he took for the twenty two
yard loss, like that guy did everything but shoulder tackle him,
like he was a member of the WWE to keep
that guy from getting tordshed or standers. He could have
been called for holding four different times on that play

(09:19):
ahead of the sack, if you really wanted to go
down that path. So it's not that there aren't guys
fighting for jobs alongside him and they're going out of
their way to make him look bad. Right, so we
can just cancel that noise, all the stuff from Eric Dickerson,
our other teammate, TJ. Houschmansad and everybody else about holding

(09:40):
him back and making him look bad whenever I don't
buy it. Right the order of not drafting him, there
might have been a couple of rooms where there was
a decision to say, hey, that's not a guy we're
bringing in, potentially because of all the off field and
outside noise, but to say that it was a vast
conspiracy to do that. You're never gonna get me on

(10:01):
board that.

Speaker 1 (10:02):
Now. The other thing is this right for a different perspective,
and this would this explains just why the Shadoor Sanders
timeline has gone the way it was now. I didn't
and I didn't see this going into the draft. How
big a story Shador Sanders was going to be, especially

(10:22):
after going in the fifth round right, you knew the
beginning of the draft. When mel Kiper opens up with
five minutes on Shador Sanders, we're not talking about Camra
world at all. That suddenly Chador Sanders was going to
be a big story, Dion's kid coming out, big deal.
But I don't I don't think we were ready for
just how big a deal this was. This was a
daily story that overwhelmed so many other football stories. The

(10:43):
Browns became national news because they drafted Shador Sanders, and
obviously they're big news because it's the Browns, and oh
you need five quarterbacks, but again Browns. But I don't
think the Browns were ready for how big a deal
this was going to be. Hey, we got Chador Sanders,
it'll be it'll be a deal. Now, they'll talk, but
eventually it's gonna calm down and he's a backup. He's
coming in as a fifth round quarterback, and it's you know,

(11:06):
they'll be a little bit of excitement early, but eventually
we get into the preseason and go on and he's
got to prove himself, which is ridiculous because what once
you saw it was going on with a draft, you
knew whoever got Schador Sanders. He was gonna suck all
the oxygen out of the room. So my thing is,
I wonder if the Browns just really don't know how
to play this story right. They don't want Shador Sanders.

(11:28):
They hate the fact this is an everyday story with
shoudor everything going on a Shadoor Shador Shador, So they're
playing it close to the vest. You're not getting a
lot of explanation from Stefanski or Barrier anybody about where
as it is, where his position is. We don't want
to give too much oxygen to this, and whatever we do,
we don't want to make a decision or a choice
that could backfire on us. So we got to slow
play this. We got to slow play Shador Sanders until

(11:51):
we're absolutely sure he's ready for a bigger role, whether
it's a backup, whether it's a starting job where he
starts for a few weeks, whatever it is. And now
understanding that they're over by this and don't know how
to deal with it, and that explains why Shador Sanders
has come along. Yep, you're on the team, you're getting
your reps, you're starting because everybody else's is hurt. Hey,
you had a great date, but that then you're hurt.

(12:12):
You're not starting, you're coming off the bench, you're playing
in the third and fourth quarter of this game. We
don't know what we have and if we mishandle the situation,
it's gonna be terrible for us, right, and then if
we mishandle the situation, we're gonna say, ready, hey, we
take arch Manning. And then Archie Manning calls and says, hey, Brown,
this is Archie. Hey, I made this phone call twenty

(12:32):
five years ago. I'm doing it now. Yeah, look, I
remember what I called. The Chargers said, don't take Eli. Yeah,
don't take arch We're not signing, We're not going there.
You guys are an absolute mess. So they know that
they don't want to be seen as we really can't
handle things like this because of what could be coming
in the future, whether it's Arch Manning or whether they
got to handle Chaudor as a star. So they're out

(12:52):
of their depth. They still don't know how to how
to deal with this. So that's why everything with him
has been slow played, and they're kind of learning as
the days go on. I'm sure they're thinking, now, hey,
when the game start we're gonna stop talking about your
door Sanders. Right, Yeah, no, not so much. But I'm
sure they're hoping that's going to happen. But I don't
know that they've been equipped and they are equipped right
now to deal with this story on this level, which

(13:13):
is why it's being slow played.

Speaker 2 (13:14):
Well, I mean, some of it is also the fact
that he's not clearly a number one guy. Otherwise he
would have been drafted in one of the first four rounds,
right if he was a clear can't miss prospect. And
he did some good things in that first game, there's
no question about it, you can't deny that. But he
looked equally bad in this third game.

Speaker 4 (13:36):
Right.

Speaker 2 (13:36):
There were a lot of mistakes, there were a lot
of problems, and you could say, yes, he's playing with
he was playing with third stringers. Then we weren't a
lot of starters playing that full run, nor was he
playing against first stringers that entire time. Going back to
week one, those guys had a cup of coffee. He struggled,
and then he stayed in the game and played. Well,

(13:56):
that's fine, it's all learning as you go through. Remember
Jimmy Haslam had that presser and was asked about shred
or Sanders. To me, it was like, no, it was
all Barry. It was all his his brain, brain trust
to bring this along. And again Stefanski with the track
record of playing having guys play well, and we got

(14:17):
to the playoffs a couple of years ago he did
with Joe Flacco in company. But you had a roster
that was pretty widely acknowledged as a pretty good roster. Well,
it's not the same now. Right now you're talking about
a mid to lower tier roster that you have to
try to navigate. There's no easy answer, and Dylan Gabriel
is certainly not a godsend either. No, you gotta you're

(14:38):
you're talking about a battle between a third round guy
and a fifth round guy.

Speaker 1 (14:42):
Yeah, good luck. But I'm just that I don't know
that they know how to handle this and that. And
that's that's one big Okay, Why he doesn't get a
bigger chance with the ones, Why he stayed four string
all the way through the year, This is too much
for us.

Speaker 2 (14:54):
Well, you did miss some time due to injury. That
doesn't help your your.

Speaker 1 (14:57):
Case exit out about a fresco exit. Swellow Dome Jason
Smith Macarman again just something different for Shador Sanders, which
could explain a lot of the last few months in Cleveland.
Coming up next more NFL on the way we have

hours from now. Have the Jets cut fields yet? We're
noting middle of the season. No, they're not cutting justin. No,
they're not cut justin fields. He'll be fine, I'm telling you,

(18:02):
he's gonna run for a thousand yards and throw for
a thousand yards. You just watch, I'm a little higher.
You know the number of people I say that too,
that don't get that that's a joke, Like they're like
a thousand, Like, yeah, it's a joke, obviously, dude. Come on, man,
just don't get it. Just don't get it.

Speaker 2 (18:20):
No. I think it's more just kind of throwing it
back in your face.

Speaker 1 (18:24):
So don't get that.

Speaker 2 (18:25):
That's not.

Speaker 1 (18:27):
Okay. So I want to tell you because I want
to tell you this story about my dad from this
week and speaking of football, getting ready for college football
to start this weekend. We have a big college football
story come up about twenty minutes. I won't so I
can tell you about. He's not gonna like that I'm
telling the story, but I can tell it.

Speaker 2 (18:42):
Get over it.

Speaker 1 (18:42):
So Saturday, where were we? We were out at lunch Saturday,
Pam and I and Zoe and a couple of our friends,
and my dad texts me and he says that Passion
had never been caught oh to one. And I'm like,
what are you talking about? Him? Like, never been caught
oh and one? And I'm like, I I went to

(19:05):
look back at that but that game had been over,
so I'm like, okay, he's not watching.

Speaker 2 (19:08):
I played about the fourth fourth down calls.

Speaker 1 (19:12):
And the first thing I'm thinking of is, oh, is
this part of our streak, you know, doing the MLB
dot Com the street thing? Should something I need to
sait past that. I'm like, no, that's not, because I
forget who we have. We had was playing, wasn't playing
until till the night. And I go, I'm like, I
don't know what he's talking about. I really don't know
what he's talking about. And I'm looking, I'm looking at
NFL and I don't know, I said, I said, I said,
all right, hey, hey, I'm out at lunch. What what

(19:32):
what are you talking about? And he goes C S
because you know my dad went here with Syracuse too, obviously,
I mean Cus, And I go, what game were you watching? Dad?
Our first game is not till next week against Tennessee.
And then I see the dots come up and then
they go away, and the dots go up and they go,

(19:52):
oh no, And I go, are you watching an old
game somewhere? And you got got because it's replay? And
he right, wait, all the dots come back and he goes, yep,
I go, what game are you watching? He goes, Stanford
last year? I mean, how did you not see that?
This is a replay from last year. Kyle McCord's playing
court back.

Speaker 2 (20:12):
I mean he got cut today.

Speaker 1 (20:13):
I'm like, what you know? I didn't need to You
didn't need to bring that up today. You didn't be
doing that. This is a different story now. Not unhappy.
You don't bring up Kyle McCord getting cut on Happy Monday.
Come on, I thought I was happy. Man. I wish
you could go back to Syracuse. But I'm like you,
how much are you watching? You see the score and

(20:36):
everything you see? You see McCord is playing right, Like
that's a I get that.

Speaker 3 (20:40):
You know.

Speaker 1 (20:40):
Look in college football, some of the guys you know,
you go, you don't really learn about them until the
season starts. Teams keep their death charts really secret because
there's no preseason. I get it. But I'm like, dude,
is yeah, I go, how much game did you watches?
Not a lot? I know I turned it on and
I thought I got I thought I missed the game
for some reason. I did. I didn't know we were
playing and it was the last he was watching the

(21:01):
last like two minutes we lost that game. It was
so frustrating last year losing the stand from Stanford's terrible,
and it kept us out of the play because if
we had won that game, we would have been would
have been eleven and two we've been in the playoff,
would have been the playoffs.

Speaker 2 (21:14):
Except but there's no guarantee that all the games then
pushed the same way. But I'm like, we always say no, no,
but but no, but I'm just gonna do it that way.
That's exactly what would have happened. Everything would would have changed.
But I'm like, Dad, okay, like, wow, you I mean
you knew we weren't play.

Speaker 1 (21:30):
He goes, yeah, no, no. So I think what happened
was my dad woke up from a nap and turned
on the TV. And of course the first thing was
what was this replayer guy? And so he starts watching it.
Not really my dad's seventy eight. He's watching out okay,
and realize he thought, you know, the game was you know, Yankees.

(21:51):
So I made fun. I said, you know, the Yankees
already lost twelve nothing. He goes, He goes, ha, he goes,
I don't give me that he goes, we're gonna lose today,
and I think the score was twelve one.

Speaker 2 (21:59):
It was one.

Speaker 1 (22:00):
They already lost twelve nothing in the game hadn't even
started with the we're gonna lose today. Okay, yeah, twelve
twelve one. They lost on Saturday. So I was like, Dad,
you got. I mean, I get getting got by replay,
but I'm like, wow, I mean, I've woken up from
nap before and I'm really not.

Speaker 2 (22:14):
You know, you're disoriented. You can get got.

Speaker 1 (22:17):
Yeah, I mean, but I love the fact his first
reaction was I'm up, turn on a TV and the
game is all my dad. Okay, that's great. I think
to his defense, it's it's Syracuse. At any point, it
could be a replay, even if it's we were ten
and three last year, Man, coach still has That's how
it went. I don't care our coach cannot shower for
a year if we win ten games in a year. Man,

(22:37):
it's been a long time. He's even paying his son's twet. No.

Speaker 2 (22:40):
No, but I want to talk about that now that
you bring that up, because that became a big thing
of hey, look what he's doing. He's paying you know,
he didn't give his kid a scholarship.

Speaker 1 (22:50):
And he's making just like your door.

Speaker 2 (22:51):
Sanders like, no, no, no, because I can pay for this.
I'm like, they get free tuition, right, Yeah, he's really
not paying his kids.

Speaker 1 (23:00):
Yeah, but I'm pretty sure that you know, friend might
be making a decent amount of money. I think I
think it's fine.

Speaker 2 (23:05):
Yeah, but it's the point that, you know, like he
was paying to us. I'm like, no, I think you
get it as an employee gets paid for you not
saying that maybe you don't pay a little bit more
towards the yah, you know, the food side of things
or whatever. But hey, whatever, think it's as magnanimous and
an altruistic and act as it is being made out

(23:26):
to be.

Speaker 1 (23:26):
I'm sure maybe that was I gotta take your money,
give it to Steve ANGELI sorry about that. I got it.
I gotta get it. I gotta get it to him.
He needs that money. He's our new starting quarterback. Now
time now to find out what's trending in the wide
world of sports. But Guy's been called the Fran Brown
of Fox Sports Radio, except I'm pretty sure win or lose,
but his favorite team. He takes a shower at the

(23:47):
end of the day. It is Steve Desager.

Speaker 6 (23:48):
Have you ever heard that from any other guy on
the sidelines anywhere?

Speaker 4 (23:52):
No?

Speaker 1 (23:53):
No, never.

Speaker 6 (23:54):
That's ridiculous. Not as ridiculous as the Mets just eking
out a thirteen to three victory against the Phillies. They're
now six games back in the first place Phills in
the NL East. They did beat Christopher Sanchez, who was
eleven and four. Codei Sanga, the Mets starter least was
eleven and four, was sanglested four innings. Milwaukee beat Arizona

(24:16):
seven to five. The idle Cubs now five and a
half games behind the first place Brewers in the NL Central.
Milwaukee's winning pitcher Tonight, Brandon Woodruff, allowed five runs in
five and two thirds victories for the White Sox, Angels
and the Cardinals, who got a solo homer. Bottom of
the ninth edge Pittsburgh seven to six, ending the Pirates
four game win streak. The hero late Alec Burlason, who

(24:36):
had four hits in the game. Toronto beat Minnesota ten
to four, beating Joe Ryan, who was twelve and six.
The Yankees down Washington ten to five. It was ten
nothing in the ninth Boston won four to three at
Baltimore Chair and Tran a three run homer Tampa Bay
in the game on FS one. Tonight won nine nothing
at Cleveland Junior Camonaro two more homers. He has thirty
nine for the Rays. He had four hits, four run scored.

(24:59):
The Guardian have lost six in a row. Guardians offense
went two for twenty nine with thirteen strikeouts. Tanner Biby
took the loss. Miami two won over Atlanta. Attendance in
Miami eight thousand and one eleven at Seattle Cow Raley
with his fiftieth homer of the year. The Mariners have
gone ahead of the Padres nine to four in the
bottom of the sixth inning, and it's Trek Scrubel on

(25:21):
the mound for Detroit tonight three nothing. The Tigers are
leading at the A's in the top of the sixth
and going to the sixth in LA, the Dodgers now
have a three to nothing lead over the Cincinnati reds
Andy Pahes with his second home run of the night.
Venus Williams lost her first round match at the US
Open this evening in three sets. Madison Keys of the
US lost her first rounder in three close sets. She

(25:43):
committed eighty nine unforced airs too.

Speaker 1 (25:46):
Yeah, but did a photographer run on the court and
disrupt a serve? Did that happen?

Speaker 6 (25:50):
For those who are unaware of this story, this was
what this was last night, really late, all right, and
the photographer, I guest thought it was the end a
match and actually ran onto the court. And then you
know that caused a scene, because anytime medvetive's involved, there
will be a scene to be caught. Sure, but the
photographer's quote that I saw today, you know, his pass
was pulled justifiably after he did that. He's a victim,

(26:14):
and this is like a lynching.

Speaker 1 (26:16):
Yeah, that was the way that Yeah, wow, that's something
compared to that's wow.

Speaker 6 (26:22):
Yeah, okay, yeah, you're just a victim.

Speaker 1 (26:24):
Yeah, we'll move on.

Speaker 6 (26:27):
WNBA New York Edge, Connecticut eighty one seventy nine. New
York star Breonna Stewart returned after a bone bruis innernee
she'd missed a month. At nineteen points. Tonight, Las Vegas
won its eleven straight games seventy nine seventy four at Chicago,
which is nine and twenty eight. Angel Reese in defeat
ten points seventeen rebounds by the Way. Come Wednesday, US
golf captain Keegan Bradley will make six captains choices for

(26:50):
the Writers for the Ryder Cup, and he just finished
tied for seventh at the Tour Championship. There hasn't been
a playing captain in the Ryder Cup since Arnold Palmer
in nineteen sixty three. Michigan starting, he.

Speaker 1 (27:02):
Said he's got a lot of tough phone calls to make, Yeah,
including to himself. Michigan a Tiger. It's Kegan, just want
to say you're not playing, but that's one Als always
do that to you, Tiger click.

Speaker 6 (27:14):
Uh Yeah. I'm sure the Oval office will have something
to say about this as well. He's supposed to attend
Michigan started. Quarterback will be true freshman Bryce Underwood. Florida
QB DJ Lagway will start after a string calf. Yes,
most college football teams open the season this week, and yes,
there was a trade in the NFL tonight. The Raiders
acquired quarterback Kenny Pickett from Cleveland for a fifth rounder.

(27:35):
Raiders backup quarterback Aidan O'Connell has a broken rist. The
Raiders today signed veteran wide receiver Amari Cooper, Vegas wide
out Jacoby Myers requested a trade. He wants a contract extension.
Terry McLaurin got one. Washington gave the wide receiver McLaurin
a three year extension, and the Bengals gave defensive end
Trey Hendrickson a pay raise for this year. He'll still
be an unrestricted free agent after this season.

Speaker 1 (27:57):
Back to you, Thank you, Steve Ough. So it's not
off and I say this, right, I think it's not
often anybody says this. It's not offen anybody says this.
Wait for the whistle. Oh, okay, okay, the photographer, I'll
give you all the things. God, wait for the whistle
to go ahead. Mets are good, all right, everybody good? Mary,
you have one something you want to say. It's not
often I say this, go ahead, a very nice It's

(28:21):
not often I say this. But there were two big
business decisions in the NFL today and the Bengals won. Right, Like,
the Bengal look clearly, the Bengals look. They don't deserve
Joe Burrow. They don't deserve a lot of success they
have because the way Mike Brown runs this team is
just insane. Uh you see how cheap it is. You
still get stories about how cheap it is, right Boomera
science and told the story last week about how he

(28:43):
got invited to the big.

Speaker 2 (28:44):
Ceremony and everything, you.

Speaker 1 (28:46):
Know, pay your own way. We reserved the block of
rooms for you, like it's a youth sports trip. Like, hey,
they got a block of rooms for you, you know,
for seventy nine dollars a night, Like we're not gonna
pay for you to come. We're not gonna pay for
you to come. We're not gonna pay for your for
your hotel. Like the light on, Yeah, that's I'm Tom Bodett.
We'll leave the light on for you. Like that's how
cheap the Bengals are. But today they won, all right

(29:09):
because the two big stories of the preseason Trey Hendrickson,
who wanted a new contract, didn't know if he was
going to play for the Bengals this year. Terry McLaurin
wanted his new contract, didn't know if he would play
for the Commanders.

Speaker 6 (29:19):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (29:20):
The Commanders got absolutely played, and not only that, they
showed they really didn't understand what they were gonna need
to do to keep this team together. Coming off of
last year, McLaurin said he wanted a new deal more
in line with DK Metcalf. Okay, I understand that Metcalf's
like four years younger and he's a better wide receiver,
but okay, you do you and McLaurin wanted out and

(29:42):
if he wasn't going to get paid, and the Commanders
completely cave and they give him a three year, ninety
six million dollar contract extension. Here's why this. This kicks
in when he's thirty one? What are you doing? What
are you doing? Yes, it's not like McLaurin. It walks
around and he's I'm on Ross Saint Brent, Like, this
is a guy who was twenty nine finally had a good,

(30:03):
if not great season. Right, it wasn't great. It was
a good season. He's been a good receiver the last
few years. But you don't pay him for what he did.
Now you're paying him with his extension kicking in in
twenty thirty one. Sorry, when he's thirty one years old, Like,
what are you doing? If you're the Commanders?

Speaker 2 (30:18):
I don't understand. I didn't understand it, right, Like in
all of this, we've talked about him a few times,
and really I'm excited for the NFL season to start
because we'll talk about the other what twenty six, twenty
seven teams that we really haven't mentioned on air for
the last few months, So that's exciting. But his value
is there in Washington, so yeah, there's a bit of

(30:41):
a premium. But his numbers this last year, outside of
the red zone appearances and the red zone numbers to
boost that touchdown total, weren't much different. And so all
all of that to say, I guess you looked around
and realized how really the pedestrian your receiving room was.

(31:02):
If he's not in it, I mean, I like Deebo Samuel,
but suddenly say, all right, that guy would be the
number one if Magalohn didn't come back, she decided downgrade.
And I guess you're trying to keep Jayde and Daniels happy.
So you grossly overpay here, because that's really all this
is a definitive overpay based on age down in distance.

(31:23):
As we look at what you have going forward, I.

Speaker 1 (31:28):
Don't get it. And then I look and I see
the Bengals doing the right thing, and I go, I
really don't get it, right, because Trey Hendrickson's terrific player, right,
he wanted a big new contract extension. Saw what TJ.
Watt got other players. But he's thirty years old, right,
you're not gonna get You don't give a thirty year
old lineman that kind of extension. But what gets him happy,
We'll give you fourteen million dollars for this year. That

(31:50):
was the deal that was done. Now Trey Hendrickson is
happy an extra fourteen million for this year, still going
to be a free agent next year. If you're the
Bengals and you want them, well, you can still give
him the same kind of contract because that's what he
would get. Or if he's not, you're moving on from him.

Speaker 4 (32:03):
Right.

Speaker 1 (32:03):
You gave him, you get you paid him for this year.
That's awesome, Right, That's what Washington should have done with
Terry McLaurin to say, hey, what if we gave you
a bunch more money for this year? What if we
did that now? And clearly, really I don't know if
the commander's just panicked, which they probably did a little bit,
like well boit, we're really looking at Nott, at Jayden
Daniels not having his number one receiver. And while we

(32:24):
like guys like Jalen Lane and a couple other guys,
I don't know. I don't know, I don't know. I'm
not I'm not really that worried because Jayden Daniels is
a guy that I think makes everybody better. But I
think the panic of maybe he regresses. We have this
year is a big window for us. We were in
the NFC title game last year. But this is a
bad deal. And the Bengals, who you never think would

(32:46):
do things the right way and which I thought he's
gonna hold out all the way through. No, they gave
him fourteen million for this year. Okay, I'm happy because
I got fourteen million for this year and the Bengals
can still get him what if they want to after
this year, or they could let him go and they're
not locked into it. Like the Bengals doing it right
is so insane. It's like it's opposite day in the world. Yeah,
I'm finishing off with the Commanders. Your point about Daniels

(33:09):
the regression. Look, the schedule will be harder and you're
not gonna win all those one score games that you
did a year ago. There's a lot to be said
for what's on the table for this year and recognizing
where you are without overpaying Terry McLaurin to try to
salvage that. Now, as for Hendrickson to just say, here's

(33:31):
an extra fourteen million dollars and we take our best
last chance with him. Look, because we've talked about it
from the defending side, and this is where Dallas and
the Micah Parsons thing. They've got to recognize you're only
gonna winning a half game more with him.

Speaker 2 (33:47):
On your roster. Same thing with Hendrickson. But if you decide,
all right, we want to make Joe Burrow happy and
we want to take our last best run. Here, fine,
unrestricted free agent, go test the mark could place after
this year, and then you can always get back in
the bidding if you want to, if you're the Bengals.
So yeah, everything that you said is take your shot

(34:10):
and clap your hands and be done with it. You
don't drag it out another three hears at his age,
and really what it means for your wins and losses?
You proved last year you could lose with him justice.

Speaker 1 (34:23):
Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, I mean, I mean it's it's
opposite day. It is opposite day the Bengals. The Bengals
are doing bangles, opened up the cupboards. You can haring
a banner for that in the stadium. Hey did the
right thing with Trey Hendrickson. Extra fourteen million for this year.
Can you fill that in a banner? Can you fit?
There's a lot you could too much font on a bet.
Thet's gonna have to be smaller. Okay, all right, one

(34:45):
of the Jets, we don't have banners. Put Bengals logo. Well,
I mean yeah, you can put this on the back
of a Jets. We had the nineteen sixty nine Jets
banner and that's it. No, No, you had the two
AFC title game appearance. Appearance. We have double digit victory
in these two seasons. Jason Smith Mike Harmon live from

pressure on him in any college football player this year.

football zero week in the rearview Mirror one coming up.
Arch Manning has more pressure on him than anybody in
college football this year, right, whether it's you know but

(36:10):
laces out Dan and clearly that's why, right, obviously he's
one story, right he is. That's why the odds on
him for the Heisman Trophy are where they are. It's
all the attention on Texas. Steve Sarkisian had to say today.
I had to tell him just be you, just be. Yeah,
it's kind of hard when you're who everybody is about.
But the guy under the second most amount of pressure.

(36:31):
We found it out today because Michigan named Bryce Underwood
their starting quarterback. This is the kid they went out
last year when they started the season and people said, wait,
they're going in with a gadget guy and a seventh
year senior and a lifetime backup. This is who Michigan's
following up the national championship with. Oh my, this is inexcusable.

(36:51):
So they flip Bryce Underwood from LSU and now he
comes to Michigan and he wins a starting quarterback job.
Now number one. Of course I was gonna happened, because
the fans would riot in ann Arbor if he wasn't
the starting corps. Just one of the most sought after
players in the last three years in college football as
far as the quarterback goes.

Speaker 2 (37:10):
Well, I mean what not only was he sought after,
but look at the dollars behind him?

Speaker 1 (37:15):
Oh yeah, yeah, Michigan. I think Dave Portnoyck had a
pretty big check for uh, for Bryce Hunter. He's in
the noise for for the Ohio State game. Yeah, he's
on the Fox set. Yeah, man, he can't go. That's
interesting to see if that's actually really gonna happen, Like
I want to see if that's you're saying that happen,

(37:35):
that they won't do it. I think that might be
a little bit of gamesmanship. Now, but I can't see, Hi,
they can't. Ohio State likes being in the Big Nude Kickoff.
They all the Big ten. They like that. Yeah, I
like the Big Nude Kickoff. They like that. So I
think this is one of those Hey, we're gonna throw
this out there, because the last thing they want is
Portnoy on camera just saying.

Speaker 2 (37:56):
Oh, it sucks.

Speaker 1 (37:57):
You guys all suck. I think I think camera on
camera care. I think they just want to say, hey,
we're gonna throw this shot across the ball, letting you
know that the guy can't come on here and just
start bad now in Ohio State, right, we want to
make sure. I don't think they can ban somebody just
because he's a fan of Michigan, Like, how petty is that?
Hey't to see if they do we're banning the guy

(38:20):
who is a fan of Michigan.

Speaker 2 (38:22):
Well, you just have to tune into Big Nude kick
I mean.

Speaker 1 (38:27):
That's just that. I mean, I love that story. I
love that story. There's no way. That's why I think
this is one of those Hey, it's a story now
creates headlines for the game, But you're not gonna ban
I mean, Fox didn't go in with this. This partnership
to say, oh, you're banning the guy from this set there,
you can't do.

Speaker 2 (38:43):
This is great. You can ban him from inside the stadium.
So you have to set up outside now, because.

Speaker 1 (38:48):
What are you doing? You really want you want to
get along with Fox? You don't want to see it.
And how petty do you seem? Oh, we know he's
gonna say bad things about Ohio State because he went
to Michigan. I don't think they care.

Speaker 2 (38:58):
I think yeah, I don't know, man, I don't know.
Any way back to the maybe Ryan.

Speaker 1 (39:05):
Day is up to No, you got a bean, you
got a ban.

Speaker 2 (39:07):
Him A Rice Underwood signed a twelve point five million
dollars ice right, right, so he was not losing this job.

Speaker 1 (39:15):
No, But he is the guy that all of in
the entire coast to coast Michigan names right that the
largest living body of alumni, I believe across the country.
He's the guy that's gonna get them back to winning
the national title this year. They went they they were
so starved for a quarterback last year and it didn't
work out, so they go get a guy. Everything else

(39:37):
was perfect with the team a year ago. How many
first round picks they have offensively defensively, Michigan was loaded
and it was such a huge mistake and miscalculation by
Brown and every how do you not have a quarterback ready?
This guy, you're getting us back to not only the playoff,
but back to the national championship. That's how much pressure
is on Bryce Underwood is a freshman coming in here

(39:59):
at Michigan.

Speaker 2 (39:59):
Fifty to on on for your heisman odds as we
sit here today, for Underwood pretty deep down the path,
no doubt about it, with arch Manning sitting at the top.
But yeah, you look at how pedestrian the quarterback numbers
were a year ago, and wondering just a little bit

(40:20):
of a difference maker how much easier a path it
had been for the Wolverines. So yeah, Davis Warren being
your guy and all of those kind of things that
you push forward to try to find yourself a much
easier road with Underwood under center. So when this started
to come down the pipe earlier today, it was like, oh,

(40:43):
look at it. It's true freshman. It's like, yeah, And
any relation to carry Underwood.

Speaker 1 (40:49):
Yes, yes, And his new song is before he throws
a pick. Huh, that's not bad. It took a Wilson
fitball to the defensive back and I threw it. You're
not ban from the Big House.

Speaker 2 (41:01):
That would that would do it?

Speaker 1 (41:04):
Oh my goodness. I'm telling no pressure on anybody, arch Manning,
Bryce Underweard. There's your one two and head coach Brian
Kelly and head coach Brian Kelly.

Speaker 2 (41:14):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (41:15):
Year, but I would say I would say Lincoln Riley,
but the buyout is just way too much and they're
not gonna do it with accent. It's key ninety million dollars.
It doesn't matter all accents. Brian Kelly, more pressure, it's
same same freach.

Speaker 2 (41:27):
Is he gonna do another one of those dance videos
this year?

Speaker 1 (41:31):
We got a big story coming up out of the NFL.
What head coach said something today? I absolutely love. That's
next Fox
