Speaker 2 (00:23):
If you're listening to Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 1 (00:29):
Readings, Welcome inside Final Hour tonight The Jason Smith Show
with Steve de Sager in from Mike Harmon, and I
got a tweet from a listener that says, Jason, did
you ever dream in your radio career you would one
day talk so much about a TCU North Carolina football game?

(00:50):
And I want to say, I wouldn't have dreamed of
doing this last year my entire career. Like you know,
back when I started their early two thousands, you're gonna
told me in twenty twenty four, Hey, you're gonna talk
so much about TCU North Carolina. What is Jordan coaching
the team? If Jordan's coaching, we're talking about it. But
that's not doing unless that appen. Oh no, no, here
we are.

Speaker 3 (01:10):
They didn't know the names in the crowd at Carolina tonight.
That is for certain. Mia Ham champion many times over
in soccer. At North Carolina, the same booth had Roy Williams,
Michael Jordan, Lawrence Taylor for crying out loud.

Speaker 1 (01:24):
Sure, Randy Moss was there too. Jordan Hudson was there.

Speaker 3 (01:27):
They were really Jordan Hudson was there.

Speaker 2 (01:29):
He the dog was there.

Speaker 1 (01:31):
Yeah, yes, Oh, Herbstreet's nuw dog Peter. The game got
so much of a blowout they put him on the
air at the end, like the Herbstreet's putting his headphones
on his new dog Peter at the end of the game. Hey,
this is a forty point blot. Whatever you guys want
to do, they can keep people watching. Hey can I
put my dog on the air? Yeah sure, Kirk, no problem.
Everybody loves your dog, Yeah, go ahead. He loved Ben

(01:51):
No love.

Speaker 3 (01:51):
Peter twice and Belichick sauce. And he also put his
notes right in front of his nose. He was ready
to contribute.

Speaker 1 (02:01):
He actually wrote the note. He had the powder blue
handkerchief around his neck. TI from North Carolina. Oh that
was the best. Now look now the couple of things
to say, we're gonna hear from Bill Belichick coming up
in a minute. He did say some absolutely shocking things
following the game tonight, although not what you think. Yes,

(02:22):
North Carolina, Bill Belichick lose tonight. If you think that
the love affair and the attention of Bill Belichick is
gonna go away after tonight, I got news for you,
because Belichick and North Carolina are exactly what Colorado and
Deon Sanders was in twenty twenty three. Right now, you
go back to the beginning of September and college football

(02:43):
in twenty twenty three, when Deon Sanders gets the job
at Colorado and there was so much attention in the offseason.
Right comes out of Jackson State. Great, you know FCS power,
I'm bringing my son. Everybody heard about Travis Hunter, but
nobody knew who he was. He shows up and tells
everybody in Colorado hit the transport because I'm bringing some
guys in. Whoa, whoa, whoa. He's polarizing from the jump,

(03:05):
but Colorado and Dion. Could he succeed? Could he not?
Was the story the entire summer, and that's exactly what
it was. The beginning of the season. The month of
September was owned by Colorado. We spent more time Colorado
talking about Colorado on Mondays following an NFL weekend than
we ever have talking about any other college football team

(03:26):
because it was just that big a story. Now, September ends,
and even though Shador Sanders and Travis Hunter proved they
were terrific players, they won a couple of big games.
Uh yeah, when you start losing in college football, you're
not as big of a story because we talk about
teams that win, right.

Speaker 2 (03:43):
That's just losing.

Speaker 3 (03:44):
It was they were down thirty five nothing at half
at Oregon and oh yeah it was September.

Speaker 1 (03:48):
Yeah, yeah, that was Dan Lanning was foaming at the
mouth telling his guys before the game. They showed that
that pregame speech he was yelling at they'll take all
the headlines, We'll take the wins, right.

Speaker 3 (03:57):
And shortly after that, Colorado lost it. It's last six
games of the season.

Speaker 1 (04:01):
Yeah yeah, Now, so you fade away. Okay, So here's
Belichick and you think that's going to be the same thing.
It's not. Bill Belichick is a different personality than Deon Sanders.
Deon Sanders was a Hall of Fame player, but his
playing days were a long time ago. Right, he was
on NFL network. That's fine, you know, But was Deon
Sanders someone you talked about all the time NFL. No,

(04:23):
he wasn't one of those guys where when the ex
athletes say something, they make news. Right, he wasn't. He
wasn't doing what Tom Brady did, or what Cam Newton
does or anybody else. Right. Well, he just wasn't that
kind of analyst. But then he goes and he becomes
a terrific head coach, and he okay, and then he
comes back into the spotlight. Belichick never left the spotlight.

(04:43):
He had twenty five years of the fast lane, twenty
five years of treating the media with disdain, like they
were just someone who was beneath him, winning games in
ways in which we questioned how they won, couldn't believe
they won. All of a sudden, he's got a dynasty
and Brady is the best. Oh wait a minute, you
had Spygate, you had the flight gate, and that took

(05:03):
some tarnish off Belichick. But still they went on. Every
three years they won a Super Bowl, and then his
fall was such a big deal. All of a sudden,
how do they do without Tom Brady? When we hit
twenty twenty and Belichick proved that maybe the dynasty was
way more Brady than Belichick. But still Belichick state a
story he couldn't get a job in the NFL. He
takes the gig at North Carolina, the story with Jordan Hudson,

(05:27):
his girlfriend becomes front and center. That's what takes over
this summer, just like Dion and Colorado took over in
twenty twenty three. There was no talk about hardly anything
else in college football except here's Belichick. How's he gonna do?
What's this going on with his girlfriend? Why does it
seem like everybody hates him? Why does seem like things
aren't going well? The drama of Belichick is such a

(05:47):
heavy topic. But they lose the first game. Guess what
Belichick is a different personality than Dion Sanders. Was the
polarization that Dion Sanders has. You still have half the
country want to see Dion Sanders win. The other half
wants to see him lose. Right, But when you start losing, okay,
you lose a little bit of that. The majority of
the country fans want to see Belichick lose, right, just

(06:11):
like the Yankees. Right, Any evil Empire. You want to
see make it as far as you can and then
lose in a heartbreaking fashion. Right, A perfect baseball season
is the Yankees making it to the World Series and
getting swept. Right, that's every Yank. Every baseball fan can say, yeah,
we almost saw it last year. Yeah, the perfect season
has seen the Yankees make it there and then not
be able to feel the ball in a beginning of
the game. I mean, that's the perfect season for baseball fans.

(06:34):
The hate watching for Bill Belichick is going to be
off the charts now all of a sudden. Next week
in Charlotte, everybody's gonna have an eye on that game.
Do I have the ESPN app that I can watch
it on? Do I have to? Because Belichick losing and
potentially watching the end of his career is going to
be fascinating for so many people because, as Justin said
earlier in the show, all the fans, Jets fans, Bill's fans,

(06:57):
Dolphins fans, all NFL fans. It didn't like how Belichick
carried himself, right, Chiefs fans, Steelers fans, everybody, Cowboys fans.
Everybody wants him to get his just desserts and losing
at the end of his career in New England kind
of wasn't enough, right, it was, okay, well, now we're
just beating the crap out of his team. He doesn't
know how to build a team and they're not any good.
All right, Okay, but this now, losing like this, when

(07:20):
the NFL turned their back and seeing Belichick come in
and and and and lose like this, that's not gonna
lose any steam. Him going oh and two, oh and three,
oh to four. That's gonna be a top of the story,
top of college football story along with arch Manning all
season long. And while a couple of games aren't gonna
get the coverage you would expect, Look next two weeks

(07:41):
or Charlotte and Richmond, they lose those games or they're
one and two or two and one. Suddenly when they
get back on television, the game against Clemson, that's gonna
be a nationally televised game, right the game two weeks
the week before that is on ACC Networks Syracuse will
be a game that's on. Suddenly, what happens with Bill Belichick,
even with the losing, is a front page story, and

(08:04):
they'll be because if you want to sit here and say, okay,
what game is gonna bring you? We're gonna have more,
right we have Oregon is really good and they're playing
Michigan State. Or would you rather have North Carolina Syracuse
or North Carolina Duke At the end of the year,
Bill Belichick and that soap opera and the hate watching
is still gonna be big all the way through the season.

Speaker 3 (08:25):
The only two ESPN games they are scheduled for the
rest of the season are the two that were put
on Friday nights, including the one Halloween Night at Syracuse.
Nobody's gonna be begging for North Carolina at wake Forest
come November, after we've already seen what the tar heels
product is on the field, I will.

Speaker 1 (08:42):
If he's still getting his ass kids, Please wait till
you see I'll tell you one thing, Steve, I know
you disagree. Wait till we see the numbers for tonight
and see what it is for Bill belichiers no competition tonight,
and all of a sudden, it's going to be Wow,
Look how many people are watching those games. Let's find
a way to get bell Chick on TV. Let's Belichick
is good television.

Speaker 3 (09:02):
Next Saturday Night, the Big Game is gonna be Michigan Oklahoma.
You're gonna get a North Carolina versus Charlotte highlight at
behalf and that's gonna be it. And that's not gonna
be on a real channel Saturday night.

Speaker 1 (09:14):
Yeah, but watch during the day.

Speaker 3 (09:16):
I'm gonna you serve Michigan Oklahoma on Saturday night.

Speaker 1 (09:21):
I'm sure the attention well, television wise, yes, they're locked
into this game being a big game. But social media
wise and attention wise, you tell me what's gonna be
trending more Belichick in North Carolina or or Michigan and Oklahoma.
People are gonna pay it. Doesn't know, you can't watch it.
It's just let me see what happens. You know, it
doesn't need to be a game you watch. You don't
need to watch Belichick lose, although when you when you

(09:42):
get to you can. But it's gonna be look at
them lose again. Look at the attention on Belichick and
his press conference. Is gonna be played on ESPN and
on Fox and everywhere else. It's yes, the game itself
next week, but again, let's see if it winds up
getting picked up and on a bigger network over the
course the next few days. Because Bill Belichick is going television.
Man Deon Sanders is good television too. That's why, Hey,

(10:03):
Friday Night was all about Colorado and and and what
happened there. But you know, Bill Belichick is great television.
In the soap opera going on around him, it's it's
I can see your point of where, Hey, when they're
one and five, we're really gonna care? Yeah, we are,
we are, We are gonna because this is because we're
could be looking at the end of Bill Belichick's career
every week could be is he really gonna make it?

(10:24):
Is he gonna resign halfway through? Is he gonna resign
at the end of the year. Are we gonna get
stories about him resigning? Are him and Jordan Hudson gonna
make it through? Is she gonna stay with him? If
he's one and six as head coach in North Carolina?
All of these things are gonna keep getting cycled through.
Is fresh.

Speaker 3 (10:38):
Some careers end with a whimper and not a bang.
And I don't know how many years plural this coach
is gonna be at that school and I certainly don't
see him coaching anywhere else after this school.

Speaker 1 (10:50):
Why Sleeves will have to wear this loss. I'll say
this right. I know we're gonna hear from Belichick coming
up in a few minutes, but I want to say
this because this is where the conversation's taking us. Now.
Belichick is going to have like the beginning of they
just think about this tonight the game starts, all the pageantry,

(11:13):
all the people who are there. It's gonna be a coronation.
Belichick is here in college football right. First drive of
the game was it six plays and North Carolina is
in the end zone and it was, oh man, North
Carolina's gonna win the ACC They're gonna be in the playoff.
That's how good it was. Now, you take a look
at where Belichick sits and after the off season that

(11:34):
they had, which was full of controversy and reports that
things weren't as harmonious in North Carolina as you would expect.
And there could be a differentiation between Belichick and you
got Michael Lombardi, who's the GM and the decision makers
at North Carolina. Are they up for this soap opera
that went on with he and Jordan Hudson and what's

(11:54):
going on. I don't know that Belichick has more than
this year to win if he doesn't win in a
year where the schedule is really easy, right, the fact
that each all these big conferences now have twenty teams
in it, you miss good teams all the time. And boy,
was this a favorable schedule for North Carolina? They have
one top twenty five team on their schedule. If they

(12:16):
don't win this year and they're a mid team or worse,
does Bill Belichick get a year two? Does he even
want a year two? Do you think? I mean he
could go out? I mean, this could be the end.
He doesn't want to go out. Being boy, I did
one more year at North Carolina. I really shouldn't have
done that. But like you wonder, is he gonna get
more than this year? And that's what you're thinking right

(12:36):
now after a loss like this to TCU, who's a
good but not great team, and it was they looked
like they looked like a high level, you know, top
five FBS team playing against an FCS team week win
where the final score is like seventy four to seven
like USC this week, and a touchdowns from nine different
guys in their win. Like that's what this game looked like.

(12:58):
I don't know the Belichick's got more more than this year.
Now after tonight, I don't know that he has more
than this year. And I really go back to where
it could be a one and done for him with
the Tar Heels.

Speaker 3 (13:08):
And this is a year where they don't have, as
you mentioned, Miami on the schedule, or Florida State or
even pitt And by the way I looked it up,
the opening game for North Carolina football next season is
against TCU in Dublin. That is the opener in late
August of next season. Is this North Carolina program? Will
Belichick be there?

Speaker 1 (13:30):
And I also have this just this is breaking news
coming in here, Steve. Game two this week has been flexed.
It is now North Carolina, North Carolina. I got it
right here, big noon kickoff on Fox against Texas. So
that's what it is. That we're getting Bilichick and arch Manning.
While we still think both of them are good.

Speaker 3 (13:50):
And Longhorns favored by twenty three.

Speaker 1 (13:54):
Well one of them is gonna be good after this game.
All right, right, that's not happening, but boy, how great
would that be? Exit out about a esca Jason Smith
Steve to say, you're in from Mike.

Speaker 3 (14:02):
That's like a little league.

Speaker 1 (14:05):
Yeah. Yeah, if you finish that badly, you're you're out.
You're out of the season. You're at the rest of
the way. But coming up next you'll hear from Bill Belichick.
We'll play a good chunk of his postgame press conference
and he had some shocking things to say, but not
why you think, but still shocking. That's next right here,
Jason Smith Steve to Sager. This is Fox Sports Radio.

I'll let it wash over you. Fox Sports Radio. The
Jason Smith Show with special delivery Steve to say, you're
in f Mike Harmon tonight where Bill Belichick and the
North Carolina tar Heels get pasted by TCU forty eight
to fourteen, and we're gonna play some of Bill Belichick's
postgame press conference here. We've got a couple of minutes

(16:31):
of it coming your way, and I want you to
hear some of the shocking things that he says that
we have never really heard from Bill Belichick, because he
is more affable and agreeable and nice to reporters after
this loss that I have ever heard him before in

(16:53):
his life. Listen to him answer the questions and not
get standoffish or full of disdain. This is Belichick talking
about the pasting that North Carolina got at the hands
of the horn Frogs.

Speaker 5 (17:11):
You know, great atmosphere here for the game tonight. You know,
fans were at tremendous injury energy walk and you know
we played competitively but then just couldn't sustain it.

Speaker 6 (17:21):
So obviously we have a lot of work to do.

Speaker 5 (17:25):
You know, we did do a better job all the
way around coaching, playing all three phases of the game,
just wasn't.

Speaker 6 (17:31):
Up to what it needs to be.

Speaker 5 (17:32):
And I know We're a lot better than that, So
we'll need to you know, need to work on those
things and show it on Saturday and quick turnaround.

Speaker 6 (17:40):
But you know, get tc credit.

Speaker 5 (17:43):
They came in it did a good job, and they
were clearly the better team tonight. You know, they deserved
to win and they did it decisively.

Speaker 3 (17:53):
Coach Andrew Jones, start twenty four to seven.

Speaker 1 (17:55):
When things started to go bad quickly after you guys
went up seven nothing, what was the sense of is
there a sense of a couple of says that you
couldn't stop it?

Speaker 4 (18:02):
And what was maybe the key sequence that you followed
got your team.

Speaker 1 (18:06):
Sort of offer out?

Speaker 6 (18:08):
Yeah, multiple things.

Speaker 5 (18:11):
You know, anytime you give up two turnovers to touchdowns offensively,
that's not good.

Speaker 6 (18:15):
We give up several long plays.

Speaker 5 (18:16):
On defense, you know where they gained a lot of
yards on one play. So just just too many, too
many of those. There wasn't any one thing. It was
a combination of multiple things. Too many three and now
it's too many long plays on defense. And then two turnovers,
Well we have three turnovers, two turnovers, touchdowns.

Speaker 6 (18:34):
You can't overk on that.

Speaker 5 (18:37):
How much teaching can you do from this video kind
of stuff?

Speaker 6 (18:41):
Saturday.

Speaker 5 (18:42):
Yeah, well, well, you know, useual to on best of
weekend to like I said, correct the mistakes from last
tonight and move on and then you know, get ready
for Charlotte.

Speaker 6 (18:50):
So you know, they've got a couple extra days.

Speaker 5 (18:51):
Here, and you know they came off disappointing game themselves,
so you know we're both a little bit in the
same boat here. But yeah, we got a lot of
work to do and you know we'll get out it.

Speaker 1 (19:02):
Got coach Kurtis Asher Victorians on side. You guys have
a lot of miss taps tonight. How much of that
has to do with the limited amount of time you
had to prepare for this game?

Speaker 5 (19:11):
Is when it comes to tackle, Yeah, I mean you
said we got to do a better job of tackling.
There's no doubt about that, and so we're just gonna
have to work harder on it, tackle better. I mean,
there's no secret to it. It's no no pill you
can take. I mean you just gotta, you know, have
tackle better fundamentally and and get more guys around the
ball so we're out.

Speaker 6 (19:31):
You know, so many tackles in space.

Speaker 1 (19:34):
Could you assess how Geo Lopez played Is and Drew
statis and if you saw enough for Max that that
job is open or maybe over.

Speaker 5 (19:42):
Yeah, we'll see how GEO is. You know, they took
him off, took a look at him. You know, hopefully
it's not too bad. But we'll see. You know, give
Max a lot of credit. You know, we came in
there after you know, being off for a long time
and uh, you know hung in there, made and plays,
you know, in a tough situation.

Speaker 6 (19:55):
So you'll give him a lot of credit for what
he did tonight.

Speaker 5 (19:59):
But we'll take a look at it after we see
where things are at here and go from there. I
don't know it's too where they tell now.

Speaker 1 (20:06):
So listen to him there. I mean, there wasn't one.
Uh they well they executed out executed us and then
some sort of uh okay next aa Bill, can you
talk about it? Yeah, I mean he actually tells still
the guy made a good point. Well you brought you
said it right there. That's what happened. Like he's never
given anybody credit. There's gotta be patriots, beat writers. Listen

(20:28):
to that. Going never was nice enough like that me
twenty years A guy wasn't that nice to me. I know,
Fridays with Belichick always talking about long snappers and punters
and all the time. He was never that nice. He's
never been like that following a loss in his career.
But here he is answering questions. He's like this, now, Steve,
that's the nicest he's ever been because he knows he

(20:50):
can't get away with what he did earlier in his career.
He can't get away with being a jerk. He can't
get away with being standoffish. He can't get away with
with with just answering questions with disdain and not even
not even answering built What was the what was the
biggest moment of the game tonight? Well, yeah, you saw
the game.

Speaker 3 (21:08):
When the well appreciate it dog in the press books
that pretty much signaled the end.

Speaker 1 (21:15):
Built it up. Did Kirk Herbstreet's dog actually call a
play for you at the end of the game.

Speaker 6 (21:20):
Did that happen?

Speaker 3 (21:21):
Yes, the one that was the fumble that was returned
for a score. That was that was the dog's play.

Speaker 2 (21:27):
That was a play.

Speaker 1 (21:28):
But I mean, but that's Belichick right, like, he's never
been like that, and and I'm stunned.

Speaker 3 (21:33):
That qualifies as jovial. People are here, how you're talking
about this, and they're saying, really, are we listening to
the same thing, because the way you introed it is
kind of like, oh, we're going to hear Jay Leno
at the chuckle hut.

Speaker 2 (21:45):
And just a moment.

Speaker 3 (21:46):
It's not it's not quite bad people and.

Speaker 1 (21:49):
Won't be that.

Speaker 3 (21:50):
But there were actual he acknowledged there were other humans
in the room.

Speaker 1 (21:55):
Yeah, yeah, Oh look, I'm not saying all of a sudden,
he's he's become a He's he's funny uncle Rich who
shows up once a year and makes us laugh for
a week and then leaves because he upsets my mom.
You know, I mean no, but for him that that
qualifies as look as nice, as affable, as answering the questions,
when normally it's just yeah, I'm Bill Belichick. Man, you

(22:18):
see the rings I have? Why am I in here
with you? You should not be asking, be able to
ask me questions about the NFL. I should not have
to talk to you about NFL. But I can't do
that anymore because I got kicked out of the NFL
because I was terrible and nobody wanted me anymore. And
so now here I am trying to make this ridiculous
thing happen coaching college. It's the only place that would

(22:39):
give me a chance. And I know, after getting my
ass kicked tonight forty eight seventeen, Yeah, I need to
be a little bit nicer because I need you guys
to write good stuff about me. I need to have
the support of the fan base because people aren't just
gonna say, yeah, let Bill do what he wants like
he had everybody in New England. Hey, I watched Belichick
win for twenty years. Bill's my guy. I know. He

(23:00):
doesn't have that with the fan base, doesn't have that
with the meat, doesn't have that with anybody. It's much
easier for North Carolina to say, well, we are wiping
mar I'm washing my hands to him after one year.
I'm done right. This was terrible, like we got We
thought he was gonna be fantastic and and look where
we started. The Raleigh News, an observer, though the big
article on this postgame tonight, says, said North Carolina got

(23:24):
sold a bill of goods this offseason. Like that's how
mad everybody is already after losing like this on National
TV Labor Day Night, where the ratings are going to
be through the roof. We talk about it all the time.
If you lose Saturday on CBS Sports Network at four
point thirty, no one's gonna care as much you lose

(23:44):
on ESPN Sunday Night or Monday night Labor Day week.
Guess what, that's a big deal and what happens is
amplified three times to what it was usually it's the
NFL where it happens. You lose on Monday, Sunday night,
Monday night, Thursday night, it's a bigger deal than when
you lose, you know, Sunday noon at four o'clock. But
this is what's true for Week one of college football.
Belichick could have become an instant legend and done anything

(24:08):
he wanted to with a big win tonight, But instead
it's the absolute opposite. And this is why I say
he maybe has the rest of this year to win
or this is the only year he's got at North Carolina.

Speaker 3 (24:17):
Asked Brian Kelly if that opening weekend and being in
primetime and the solo of the night actually gets people
talking or now, by the way, so what you're saying
about Belichick's response is a improvement from what we saw
year after year, year after frustrating year of press conferences
in New England. So he's really gone up to say

(24:38):
Chip Kelly level. And that's about it, because they they
both are really saying inside, I just I got taped
to look at guys, can can we rush this up?
Because I just want to leave this room. This is
really not how I want to spend my evening.

Speaker 1 (24:54):
He is he is? I want to say this, here's
a level he is. I want to say he is.
He was better and more agreeable than Nick Saban after losses,
right because Nick nick Saban was never mad. Yeah, oh
he could get mad, absolutely yes, And Belichick ever got mad.
He just didn't care and like again it was like

(25:16):
you're I'm above you. Why are you asking me these questions?
But Nick Saban after losses would be much more Kurt
like like Belichick is and Belichick was. He's better than
Nick Saban already.

Speaker 3 (25:25):
Kurt Belichick is that the other son is that the offensive.

Speaker 1 (25:30):
There's all a bunch of Belichick kids, all bunch of
Belichicken for longs no. Uh Now, the other side of this,
right is TCU that wins this game. And this is
a big This is a big point to make because
you know, we're comparing Colorado to the interest level in
Colorado in twenty twenty three the interest level in North Carolina. Now, right,
we mentioned Dan Landing earlier when Oregon beat Colorado in

(25:53):
that big where it felt like the entire country wanted
Oregon to beat Colorado by fifty What was the final
score in ninety six to three that game, it was.

Speaker 3 (26:00):
It's thirty half. So yeah, they get onto.

Speaker 1 (26:05):
And that video of Dan Lanning you're getting so emotional
about with his team about winning this game. So a
private video, yeah, yeah, yeah, the one that he could
which got out, which okay, you say what you want
to say, but it got out, and you talked about
they want headlines, We're gonna go win the game. And
you can tell that game it was just a different
feel for Oregon on the sideline, right that they wanted

(26:27):
to win that game and win that game. That was
bo Nix, right, Hey, he's pretty good, Jase.

Speaker 3 (26:33):
We said a little of that tonight that you know,
that was zero attention to us.

Speaker 1 (26:37):
And that's the thing is that if you think TCU
just sort of wore the hey nobody is talking about
us badge on their arm, it's a little bit more
than that, because because there are guys in that locker
room that remember back in twenty twenty three, with all
the attention on Colorado, who did Colorado beat forty five

(26:57):
forty two to really launch that month? The month of Colado,
the month of Dion. They beat TCU, who was a
pretty good team coming in. They were a top twenty
five team ranked, and they went into a game just
like this and lost. And I guarantee you, Sunny Dykes,
that was a lot of the conversation. We played this
game two years ago. We weren't ready X, Y and Z.
We're gonna be ready this week. More attention to detail,

(27:19):
more everything. And I don't know what that conversation was
like on the sideline after that first North Carolina touchdown,
but clearly they batten stuff down and executed all the
way until North Carolina finally scored their second touchdown. By
that point, the game is over. It's forty one to seven.
So I guarantee you that memory of that game being
that team, we are not gonna lose this game again.

(27:41):
We're not gonna go on the road into North Carolina.
We got to survive early and then impose our will
because we're the better football team. And they did it.
And I guarantee you that was a big part of
their talk to UM.

Speaker 3 (27:51):
So tonight's TCU quarterback would have started playing right after
the loss to Colorado because he has almost two full
years there under his belt playing.

Speaker 1 (28:01):
Yeah. Look, and he looked great tonight, right, like like
like that's the thing you know that people forget is that,
oh yeah, you know TCU is a pretty good team, right,
and you know you just watched how crisp they were offensively, right,
That's that's the whole thing is that they ran the
football well, they threw the football well.

Speaker 3 (28:19):
It was seven yards of carry for the four quarters.

Speaker 1 (28:22):
Yeah, it was. It was a clinic uh that TCU
was able to put on tonight. It was so incredibly
impressive where the first drive just seems so far out
of context, like how did that first drive happen? For
North Carolina? We are existing on the emotion of everything
we just watched in the pregame with everybody.

Speaker 3 (28:42):
Reminds me of do you remember the Browns had an
exhibition game in recent years where their late great announcer
said after the first drive went just like this, just
swimmingly because everybody was expecting a new era in Browns football.
Mike Goodness, Watson's here and all's going to be well.
And they went straight down the field. The touchdown call
actually said, and he's.

Speaker 1 (29:02):
In the end zone for a touchdown. And that's how
it's gonna be. That's how it's gonna be. I love it,
but I look like you watch Josh Hoover tonight looked
like an NFL quarterback. Right, he looked really good. He
made a lot of NFL throws. Everybody ran the ball well, right.
Barnes had the big touchdown run, but it was chunky, chunkyard.

(29:26):
They throw for two eighty four, they run for two
fifty eight. It was just an absolute domination from the.

Speaker 2 (29:34):
Running back.

Speaker 3 (29:35):
It's yet forty one unanswered points after North Carolina went
straight down the field for the quick sevenzer lead.

Speaker 1 (29:42):
Yeah. North Carolina ran the ball twenty eight times for
fifty yards.

Speaker 3 (29:45):
Okay, and that doesn't include a lot of sacks either,
that's just no stuffed.

Speaker 1 (29:50):
Yeah, that's being nice, right, that's forget about the sacks.
And Geo Lopez put seventy yards of offense on the
board before he got hurt and came out. He went
two hours in between complete and I'm not saying no,
that actually went two hours in between eight oh two
and then ten twelve was his next completion. That's again,
you could go watch a full length movie, or you

(30:10):
could watch two episodes, maybe three episodes, depending how long
they are of binge watching television show, and then come
back and you would not have missed a Geo lopezko.

Speaker 3 (30:19):
I believe in the course of those two hours, seventeen
thousand fans left the building by.

Speaker 1 (30:24):
The text hit.

Speaker 3 (30:25):
They didn't think that, see well, it was fifty thousand total,
and once I got up to that long gainer to
really make it a blowout, that's when the folks really
started to leave. In the third quarter, right the fumble return.
It's my fodness, it's forty one seven.

Speaker 1 (30:38):
This is a dark chapter O exit out about a
Fresca Jason Smith. Steve de Sager in from Mike Harmon tonight,
speaking of fans leaving. It was that type of video
during today, when Juan Soto hit his triple to knock
in two runs and the seventh thing against the Tigers,
fans were leaving. Steve De Sager has more on that
story and everything else with what's trending.

Speaker 3 (31:00):
By the way you reference, there was an open Mica
on kirk Herb Street as it was a blowout and
they were coming back from break and they caught him
saying and I heard it.

Speaker 4 (31:09):
I believe he said.

Speaker 3 (31:10):
He was chuckling and said, oh, you're bad to whoever
made whatever joke that we'll never know. He via, I mean,
vehemently denies that he was calling North Carolina bad.

Speaker 1 (31:20):
He was talking to Peter Steve. He was talking to
Peter as dog, Oh you're bad, maybe Peter. Maybe Peter
drew something about North Carolina or made a joke about
Bill Belichick, and he's Peter, you can't do that to
my years.

Speaker 3 (31:30):
It wasn't there bad, but your bad. And I doubt
he was, you know, literally speaking to all the men
on the sideline way down below. But TCU did win
at North Carolina in the opener for each forty eight
to fourteen debut of coach Bill Belichick at UNC And yeah,
the tar heels on third down conversions were one for ten,
so really the seven to nothing early lead didn't mean much.

(31:51):
Three turnovers for the home team. Meanwhile, to the NFL,
we're gonna get opening week games this week. The regular
season begins Thursday with Dallas at Philadelphia, and the Jets
have already lost stop and it's the Chargers opener Friday
night in Brazil against the Chiefs. Chargers wide receiver Quentin
Johnston cleared concussion protocol. Running back Najie Harris, now at

Friday after his July fourth eye injury. He was just
cleared for full practice. The Steelers gave running back Jalen
Warren a two year extension. Forty nine Ers wide receiver
Juwan Jennings practice for the first time in over a
month today after a calf injury. He also wants an extension.
Man who has a new contract. Micah Parsons defensive end

(32:34):
was limited in his first practice at Green Bay. He
has a joint spring in his back. Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford,
with the bad back, is expected to start the opener
Sunday at home against the Texans. Stafford has practice fully
for the past two weeks and is expected to do
so this week. At the US Open, Naomi, Osaka beat

The Phillies first in the NL East, still six games
over the Mets, Brewers first in the NL Central, five
and a half over the Cubs now Cubs one in

with three runs in the bottom of the ninth, beat
Toronto five to four. The Reds are still four games

(33:39):
out of the last NL wildcard behind the Mets. San
Francisco five back. The San Francisco Giants have won eight
of nine. They were eight two winners at Colorado. The
Rockies record now thirty nine and ninety nine. Tonight's losing starter,
Chase Dollander two and twelve ERA went up to six
point seven seven and he'll be getting a few more starts,
I have no doubt. Meanwhile, Boston was a six to

(34:01):
four winner over Cleveland or Aldis Chapman to save.

Speaker 1 (34:04):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (34:04):
The Blue Jays are first in the Al East, but
just two and a half games over Boston and the
Idol Yankees. Baltimore won at San Diego four to three.
Padres reliever Jason Adams suffered a ruptured quad tend and
