Third quarter Underway from Brazil Chargers Lead the Chiefs thirteen
to now. Last night Mike Carbon checked me on this.
We had the lightning delay. Yeah, Now, we potentially had
a smoke delay at halftime for a couple of minutes
because of the fireworks and the smoke going off, and
(01:11):
cheese were laid out on the field. I think this
might be the year of the of the delay in
the national football If the first two days are to be believed,
we're gonna get delays all the time for different reasons.
Speaker 3 (01:21):
Well, who gets kicked out for spitting? Like I need
I need all my bingo? That was yesterday, that was no, no, no,
but I got I got used, I got issued the
same bingo card.
Speaker 4 (01:30):
I want to win.
Speaker 1 (01:31):
It's something else today. It's on the bingo card. You
have spinning ejection. Then you have like, you know, throwing
a donut at someone ejection, right, yeah, yeah, you get
a donut in here?
Speaker 4 (01:40):
Yeah yeah, yeah, yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:41):
I mean, let's see brazil desserts. Donut Uh yeah, I
think they have good desserts in Brazil.
Speaker 4 (01:47):
I'm sure.
Speaker 5 (01:48):
Uh.
Speaker 3 (01:48):
Brigaderos is the evidently one of the most popular.
Speaker 1 (01:52):
Is that it is a thudgeball rolled in sprinkles. And
then you had beijinos coconut car versions of that.
Speaker 4 (02:01):
Oh okay, well that sounds good, except for the coconut.
Speaker 1 (02:04):
I like a nice coconut. You can say it, hey,
you could say, hey, Jason, here's a here's a million
dollars in cash. Great, but it's dusted with coconut for
keep it, keep it now. I don't want, I want
anything with coconut anywhere close to it's close to me,
coconut is the worst. That's I may as well have
cook spinach. You may as well can give me that.
AM not gonna eat it. Cook spinach. Why do you
(02:24):
not like spinach? I mean spinach fresh, but no cook spinach. No,
absolutely not, as I still have I know I have
PTSD from when I was a kid having my grandmother
making cook spinach with no butter or anything. Just here
it is on the plate, and you go, oh man,
that just looks awful and it doesn't smell great, and
that's awful. No, no, no, nope, nope, don't give it
(02:46):
to me. Don't give it, don't want it.
Speaker 4 (02:48):
That's okay.
Speaker 3 (02:48):
I mean it's not often that in a radio station
anybody's serving up anything that has really anything green on it,
at least to you. I mean, because you're not touching
the pizza that we would get, you know, the deep
dish that would have some veggie's or spinach.
Speaker 1 (03:02):
I mean that's just not your style.
Speaker 4 (03:04):
No, no, not my style. I will have spinach dip,
spinach dip, is different story. Like the spinach dip.
Speaker 1 (03:09):
Okay, you had some cheese and some cream in there
and everything, okay, but no, but just coke spin it now,
forget it.
Speaker 3 (03:15):
I mean, I got a really good recipe for that.
But the problem is you bring that around a radio
station and it sits out. What's gonna happen. Someone's getting
sick by the end of the night. I can't do it,
can't do it.
Speaker 1 (03:25):
Right now, Chiefs fans not feeling great as the Chiefs
have been getting dominated by the Chargers again thirteen to
six nine minutes ago in the third quarter. And even
though it's a close game, right it's a close game,
but it feels like one of those games when you
watch the first half, you see how well Justin Herbert played.
The Chargers haven't been able to rush the football as much.
(03:47):
Najie Harris doesn't even have a rushing attempt, which is
you know, he's been on the field for a few
plays and maybe not nearly as healthy as you think
he is. But for the way the Chargers they move
the football well, the defense played really really well. This
feels like a game and they should be up like
twenty four to three. It feels like a game that
is the typical Chargers game. Yeah, yeah, well it's not
a typical Charger game until like they blow a big
(04:08):
lead in the fourth quarter, or they come back and
are a yard from taking the lead, but the ball
bounces off somebody's helmet and off the goalpost and into
somebody's arms up you know that the official deflex off
his shoulder, like that would be a Charger game. But
like this feels like a game where you know, look
that the Chiefs are driving now and Mahomes just had
a big scramble for a first down. But the Chargers
(04:28):
dominated the entire first half, and it's a one score
game when it feels like, if you have the scoreboard up,
you would say this is the Chargers. They should be
up by three scores. Absolutely obliterated, Absolutely Herbert.
Speaker 3 (04:41):
It was twelve and twenty, but it seemed like he
was much more efficient and better than that some wide
open spaces. Early Chiefs have really had no pass rush
to speak of whatsoever, So you've had the opportunity to
sit back and pick them apart. We went, you know,
according to the screw. And this is why they play
the game right. The Roy Kent We don't know. We
(05:04):
don't know what they're gonna do. And that's exactly it.
O Marion Hampton with nine carries thirty two yards and
one of the biggest gaffes that you're gonna get in
week one to where Marshawn Lynch he goes, you know,
I know a thing about not getting the ball, so
let me tell you what to do when you actually
get it, as he ran out of bounds in the
final minute of the first half to give the Chiefs
an opportunity for the fire drill to get three on
(05:26):
the board. But Mahomes and company struggling. You lose Xavier
Worthy early as he collides with Travis Kelsey. Kelsey just
had his biggest play of the game as Tart punched
him in the face. So, I mean you got that
He's only got one catch for ten yards as we
sit here in the early part of this third quarter.
Speaker 1 (05:45):
Yeah, you asked for something stupid like spinning. Well we
give you what just happened at the end of the play,
which was really a no gain. Travis Kelcey blocking Tier
Tart and at the end of the play, Tart just
round how swings at Kelsey hits him in the helmet.
Flag is thrown, So now it is a first down
(06:05):
and ten from just outside the ten yard line for
the Chiefs as they try to tie this game at
thirteen apiece. And I'm pretty happy because already Mike Patrick
mahomes over for DraftKings pick six over.
Speaker 4 (06:18):
You know what was it?
Speaker 1 (06:18):
Eighteen yards rushing? He's a fleeting rusher for the Chiefs
and he's just running for a touchdown. He's got like
sixty five yards rushing and a touchdown and they are
an extra point away from time the game here at
thirteen apiece, eleven play, eighty yard drive for the Chiefs.
Speaker 3 (06:33):
Yeah, I had my twenty and a half yards for
Juju Smith Schuster, I mean, obviously aided by the early
exit from Xavier Worthy, but he's at four for forty three,
so you know, we're making it happen as we go
through it. But yeah, very very interesting. I want to
know is he gonna get disqualified. He was on the
sideline where they were reviewing it to decide whether that
was a closed fist or was it just an open hand.
(06:55):
You know, hey, I'm gonna break your nose like I'm
in a well, I don't know a roadhouse kind of.
Speaker 1 (07:00):
No, they they would come out with that decision right away.
I don't think it's one of those. In retrospect, number
ninety is ejected. It's I think it's one of those.
We saw it, Howard Gregious Was it fifteen yard penalty?
Speaker 4 (07:10):
Okay, that's what it is, like.
Speaker 1 (07:11):
He hit Travis Kelcey.
Speaker 4 (07:13):
Did you not see that?
Speaker 1 (07:14):
Well, Taylor Swift is going to be really mad after
the after the game is over.
Speaker 3 (07:18):
Really, she's three thousand or however many how many miles
is it to Brazil? She's however many thousands of miles away.
I mean, she can't do anything there.
Speaker 1 (07:27):
And apparently I jinxed it for the Chiefs because Harrison
Putker's extra point attempt was wide right, So the dare
Years still keep a thirteen to twelve lead over Kansas City.
On being told, Steve the Seger has more on this
situation that just happened. See, hey, before we get to that,
can you tell me how did the Mets game end?
Speaker 4 (07:45):
Do you tell me? Ended? Nobody cares.
Speaker 6 (07:48):
Steve Dumble flooded Reds in the ninth so we all
just assumed game over, right, Yeah?
Speaker 1 (07:53):
No, no, that ed when Diaz had everybody right where
he wanted him, with bases loaded, nobody.
Speaker 6 (07:56):
Else, So sweating Diaz, Now are we.
Speaker 4 (07:58):
Sure Sweating has for three years now?
Speaker 1 (08:01):
You gidding? Do you see how lean he looks these days, Steve.
That's part of it. It's like having my own personal sauna.
Oh no, you doing that and nothing. I'm just watching
das in the ninth inning with with the windows closed
and no fan on.
Speaker 4 (08:12):
Oh that's awesome.
Speaker 7 (08:13):
By the way, that on Tierra Tar that was just
unnecessary roughness. They did not have the thumb with the
ejection from the referee, and there was, by and by
the way, a chief that was out the first drive
as Xavior Worthy is not returning shoulder injury after the
collision with Kelsey over the middle.
Speaker 4 (08:30):
Thank you, Steve.
Speaker 1 (08:31):
O t yeah, tark t Ye're tarkd done. But it
goes back to I mean, look at that first half though, Jason.
I mean one for seven from third downs, seven penalties,
uh for the Chiefs, and all it took was one
big drive yep, after you know, getting the big third
down stop, one big drive, a shot to the head
(08:52):
of Travis Kelcey.
Speaker 4 (08:53):
You get no.
Speaker 1 (08:53):
Fantasy points for that. But he's important because he gave
you that. Patrick. If you're in a fantasy league where
you get points shots to the head, you get points
for that.
Speaker 4 (09:01):
That's a bit well, but that's just it.
Speaker 3 (09:03):
If I, if I am the guy that incurs the
pain of a personal foul so egregious, should I not
get some kind of point?
Speaker 4 (09:09):
No, that is true. You should. You should get six
points like a touchdown.
Speaker 1 (09:12):
You should get six points, not one of the not
like the four point touchdown that they get for quarterbacks,
which has always been stupid. But just like, no, you
get a full six point touchdown, full six points. Now,
look the big ques, the big takeaway.
Speaker 4 (09:24):
So far.
Speaker 1 (09:24):
Here we are eight h five in the third quarter.
Right here are the Chargers and look justin Herbert looks
pretty good. This is pretty much what the charge are
gonna look like this year. He's throwing the football. Well,
I think they will end up running the football better
as the year goes on. But here are the Chiefs.
And what happened? Right, This was supposed to be a
year where Mahomes is gonna come out. I said the
Mahomes revenge Tour was gonna be here. He was gonna
(09:44):
put up big numbers certainly losing Xavier Worthy beginning of
the game a big deal, the collision with Travis Kelcey.
But the big takeaway here is that, judge, you watch
this first half and the Chiefs had absolutely nothing going on.
They had one long drive for a field goal, and
the Chargers had a really crappy defensive drive the end
of the first half. They made mistakes and allowed the
(10:05):
Chiefs to get a field goal. Now you have the
touchdown drive here, aided by another stupid penalty by the
Chargers which gave the Chiefs of first and ten from
just outside the ten. The big takeaway is not oh,
it's Mahomes and his weapons or subpart. This is and
we told you this last night, and we talked about
this game and picked this game. Why pick the Chargers
for the AFC Championship game. This Chargers defense is terrific.
(10:27):
It's one of the top five units in the NFL,
and it doesn't get enough credit because it was you know,
it was supposed to be a great system for the
few years and then ah really didn't get to the
point where it was going to be as dominant a
Charger defenses as we were used to in the general
aughts and early teams. But Harball has come in in
the last two years. They have shuffled out players who, hey,
(10:48):
they've gotten to the end of our cycle. We're moving on,
and they have replaced them with some dudes. And this
is a really good defense top to bottom, and they
have just been stemning the Chiefs where their biggest play,
honestly has been and this is Mahomes, right, this is
the brilliance of Mahomes has been Mahomes scrambling. That's been
their biggest play so far tonight. So I don't look
at this as this is a failure of the Chiefs
(11:09):
and the offense they still have problems. This is you
are seeing an unbelievable defense impose their will on the game.
And now they got to say, hey, offense, can you
give us a little bit here? Can you help us
a little bit here? Because yeah, we're doing everything we can.
I mean, yeah, I know, I know, I know. They
shouldn't hit the guy in the face, I know. But
before hitting the guy and the thing with the places,
say hey, how about you help us out a bit,
because really, that's been the Chief's only play tonight has
(11:30):
been Mahomes scrambling. Out of trouble getting first downs to
touchdown here. I mean, this has been an incredible game
by the Chargers defense. Yeah, I mean you look at
the first half totals two hundred and eleven yards for
the Chargers, one hundred and thirty three total for the Chiefs.
Ninety of those were through the air for Mahomes, I
did like that he went and took Jackson with authority
(11:50):
on that one scramble that really set up the final throws.
Before the scramble for the touchdown, he just said, I'm
laying the wood and getting after it. I think it's
bad business and he won't do that again. But we
saw the open hand slap, so you know we finally
got a good angle of it that it was a
wide slap to the face of Jason Kelcey or Travis Kelcey.
Speaker 3 (12:12):
Sorry, I'm getting Jason in my head now. The because
of your Jason is the to set up that final touchdown.
But to your point, defense has been great. A lot
of It's gonna go on. How healthy is Derwin James
over the course of a year, because you see what
he's done. He's absolutely taken Travis kelce to this point
out of the game just one catch ten yards, So
(12:33):
you've got that eraser that we've seen him be when
he's on the on the field for consistent stretches of
his career, and Keenan Allen coming back stats for days
helping on the offense because you know he's gonna set
up and help you move the chain. So all of
it good balance, good definition. And the final you know,
(12:54):
twenty minutes of this game gonna be an absolutely fascinating
chess match to see if this defense for the Chiefs
can actually get Justin Herbert off the field to give
Patrick Mahomes even a chance, because I mean, I want
to watch that side of it. I want to watch
Mahomes try to work against this defense the way it's
worked thus far.
Speaker 1 (13:12):
Yeah, it's been fun. So it's been a fun chess match.
But the big day, this defense has been terrific. The
Chargers a risky play. They go for it on fourth
and one from their own thirty five yard line, and
that's why your defense, right, I mean, oh, it's awesome, right,
I mean that this is what you do.
Speaker 4 (13:29):
Amari and Hampton.
Speaker 1 (13:30):
They trust him with the big carry on fourth and
one already, That's why I told you. I love this
kid out of North Carolina last year. He's gonna eventually
seize this job away from Najie Harris because he's freaking electric.
They trust him with a fourth and one carry from
their own thirty five yard line. He gets the first down,
time out on the field right now, Chargers keep the
football up thirteen twelve over the Chiefs five thirty two
(13:52):
to go in the third quarter. Yeah, that job's never
gonna be Najie Harris's.
Speaker 3 (13:56):
They may have named him number one in theory, and
he did gave atch for five yards, but to your point,
as you mentioned off the top, no carries to this point, Hampton.
And the other thing is the old a we we
had a rookie make a terrible mistake, and I really
thought Jim Harbaugh was gonna go out and tackle him
after he stayed and after he ran out of bounds
(14:16):
in that final minute of the first I mean, that
was that was terrible, But it was also a bad
play call.
Speaker 4 (14:23):
Though.
Speaker 3 (14:23):
Why are you calling it to the edge and even
making it a possibility that one hand gets him out
of bounce.
Speaker 1 (14:30):
Well, the thing is, I didn't think that was gonna
happen because with the condition of the field, which hasn't
really been that big a factor so far. With a
condition of the field, harball slips and falls. The grass
stains on those khakis are never coming out. I mean
from what they're never coming out. Man, that's not happening.
You gotta go to Lululemon and get another brand new pair.
They're not coming out. You don't want that to happen.
Speaker 4 (14:50):
Are you sure?
Speaker 1 (14:51):
Are they actually Lulu Lemons? Does he have a deal?
Speaker 4 (14:53):
I think I'm pretty sure it's Lulu.
Speaker 1 (14:56):
I'm not one hundred percent on maybe seventy five percent
it's Lulu Lemon.
Speaker 3 (14:59):
Because if it it was one of these influencers that
keep showing up on this telecast, I mean that might be.
Speaker 1 (15:04):
They might They might have one.
Speaker 4 (15:05):
Of those teams.
Speaker 3 (15:06):
Hey man, and doubt everything has to be for me.
It's all good. Uh, it's on mute cause you know
we're doing a show business.

Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern seven
pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 1 (17:31):
Fox Sports Radio The Jason Smith Show with my best
friend Mike Harmon. Jarson, you're still thirteen twelve LA with
the lead.
Speaker 4 (17:40):
Driving late in the third quarter.
Speaker 1 (17:43):
They have the ball at the KC eleven yard line,
time out on the field. Been a big drive so far,
big pass to Ladd mcconkee for a first down, getting
the Chargers inside the red zone.
Speaker 4 (17:53):
Maconkee now five for sixty five on the night.
Speaker 3 (17:56):
Jason, somebody we need to celebrate just for one minute
more here in this game. Sure, what do you got,
Greg Roman? And that offensive line they lose Rashaan Slater,
lots of questions of how they'd be able to handle
Karl Loftus and that Chiefs defensive front. They'd been invisible
all night long. Justin Herbert's standing back there like he
doesn't have a care in the world. And he just
(18:16):
missed another one to Johnston, scraping across the back of
the end zone, ball that should have been caught. But
now third and three is we have a time out
with an injured chief on the field.
Speaker 1 (18:26):
You know, And it feels like again it feels like
it should be a three touchdown lead for the Chargers,
and it's a one point.
Speaker 4 (18:31):
Lead late in the third quarter. Yeah, that's it. That's
where we're going.
Speaker 1 (18:34):
So again we'll have more in this game coming up
in a few minutes, again late in the third quarter
in Brazil. But I need to I need to say
something here because you know, this is where we take
some things that are happening at Fox Sports Radio and
we and we let you know that. Hey, you know
everybody is dealing with stuff here. So Ian Roddy, who
was in producing for US tonight with Justin Frossberg being
in Brazil. You know, while we were paying bills in
(18:57):
the break, he said to me, Man, I don't feel great.
Speaker 4 (18:59):
I go why and what's going on?
Speaker 1 (19:00):
You know, Christian McCaffrey might not play this week, you
know the big story today. He didn't practice on Friday,
but says, I think I'll be ready for Seattle. And
he said, you know, I don't know, Man, I don't know.
And I said, yeah, okay, but I gotta tell you this,
and Ian pop on here. I I don't have sympathy
for you because you know what you're signing up with
when you draft Christian McCaffrey. You can't say this is
(19:22):
a shock. I don't believe it. This is this is part.
This is the occupational hazard of having Christian McCaffrey on
your fantasy team.
Speaker 9 (19:29):
I did know what I was signing up for. This
is why he this is why he falls in drafts.
I still I was the guy who still insisted on
taking him really early, like fourth or what ever, thinking yeah, exactly,
thinking I'm the smartest guy in the room.
Speaker 1 (19:42):
You were part of the podcast he is.
Speaker 4 (19:45):
I mean, I know you don't.
Speaker 5 (19:47):
I know you don't want to deal with this.
Speaker 1 (19:49):
You don't want to deal with it week one because
that that that does stop telling. Yes, it does suck
with a week one, but this is not really off Brandon.
It's not like I'm shocked. I cannot believe that this
is unbelievable. I think his quote from today Ian was
the same as what he gave us last year. It's
a little tight.
Speaker 9 (20:04):
Yeah, I did he I saw the clip from today
thinking it was the clip from last year, and people
just circulating it again as a jut, did he actually
have that quote again today?
Speaker 1 (20:15):
And I think it was.
Speaker 3 (20:16):
It was very very similar to last year in terms
of his availability. They're trying to be cagy, but they're
insisting nothing to see here, nothing to see here.
Speaker 4 (20:26):
I'll be fine.
Speaker 9 (20:27):
Well, I had CMC last year too, so this was
just like, I'm no stranger to this, and at.
Speaker 1 (20:31):
Least in the matrix or your groundhogs, you know, it
might be I.
Speaker 9 (20:36):
Might just be, but I at least took Brian Robbinson
this time, so you had a little bit of insurance.
Speaker 1 (20:42):
So it's a little bit of different. Those things are
a little bit different. Like a little Bill Murray, things
would be a little bit.
Speaker 4 (20:47):
Different for him.
Speaker 1 (20:47):
But still he go back to the say so, yeah,
but this is the backup I got this year. Last
year it was Jordan Mason the year before. No, I understand,
but you know that's what you're signing up for with
Christian McCaffrey. I guess I deserve it very good. You
know what, though? It makes for an in more interesting year, now,
doesn't it? Sure? Interesting? Well, interesting is not always good
or bad. I mean, it's just kind of like, well,
(21:09):
we'll see how it plays.
Speaker 4 (21:10):
Listen, listen.
Speaker 1 (21:11):
Harmon's obviously now rooting for injuries for guys like me
all makes it more interesting. That's categorically untrue.
Speaker 3 (21:17):
I want full health and greatness across the board. Did
Why did you just say it makes it more him
being hurt makes it more interesting? Is his injury situation
makes it more interesting? Well, but week to week we
need storylines. That's a huge And with the forty nine ers, look,
I picked them to go to the title game yesterday,
part of it being that Brian Robinson will be there
to shoulder whatever load. Look, because we've talked about this bunch,
(21:39):
I think McCaffrey's was going to be used as more
of a receiver anyway. Yeah, going back to the hundred
catches he had in Carolina. Do I want this? No,
I don't want pain.
Speaker 1 (21:49):
I want to know that you basically just said players
should sacrifice themselves and be on the injury report just
so it's better and more fantasy talk.
Speaker 4 (21:57):
I think that's kind of We.
Speaker 1 (21:58):
Also know, and you, you, all of you, all the
way to Tyshert, you know that those injury reports are nonsense.
All right, all right, stop for one second. First of all,
that's a load of crap. Ty Shirt does not know that. Okay, Okay,
there's no way he knows that.
Speaker 4 (22:11):
All right, maybe I went to that. Come on, man, yeah,
hey Alex, yes or no? What are the different? Oh?
Speaker 1 (22:18):
Here's a go one. What are the different ways to
describe someone on an injury report? What are their statuses?
Speaker 5 (22:24):
Yes?
Speaker 4 (22:27):
There it is? Yes or no?
Speaker 1 (22:28):
Is he on the injury report?
Speaker 4 (22:30):
I asked you that. Okay, if a guy is a
little bit.
Speaker 1 (22:34):
Hang on, okay, hang on, I'll give you the I'll
give you the questions and you give me the answers,
and no fair Ian Tellinggan it just me okay, So wow,
he walked out.
Speaker 4 (22:43):
We were just talking.
Speaker 5 (22:43):
He's gallavanding with Steve doing the halloway.
Speaker 4 (22:45):
And he walked out.
Speaker 1 (22:46):
I'm done. I'm done talking with Jason and Mike about
Pritchrill McCaffrey makes me feel mad.
Speaker 4 (22:50):
I got hives breaking out of my arms. He might
not play.
Speaker 5 (22:52):
So they're skipping out of the hallway saying dang dong
the chiefs are which je.
Speaker 1 (22:56):
Okay, So if I said if a player was a
little bit, it injured the tiny bit. But hey, the
team says he's gonna play this week. His injury designation
is what word.
Speaker 5 (23:07):
I would say? Highly probable?
Speaker 4 (23:09):
Interesting? Okay, okay, it's just probable. But you're good. You're good, okay,
why not highly if? Well? I mean, well, it's either
probable or either gonna play or you're not.
Speaker 5 (23:19):
It's like, it's very true. It's even truer.
Speaker 4 (23:21):
There's there's no such Okay.
Speaker 5 (23:22):
It's like funner, it's more than fun it's fun.
Speaker 4 (23:25):
Funner also not a word.
Speaker 1 (23:26):
It is. Uh well, Derek, there's a city in California
named Funner. Yeah, well, okay.
Speaker 5 (23:32):
If there was a Marongo sign that said it's funner here.
Speaker 1 (23:35):
Yeah, like Martin Short's the mayor or something. Yeah, people,
people without high school degrees are making billboards.
Speaker 5 (23:40):
Yes, okay.
Speaker 1 (23:41):
So uh Now, if a player's status has him up
in the air and it's a fifty to fifty chance
whether he plays or.
Speaker 5 (23:48):
Not, that's called that would be questionable or very good.
Speaker 4 (23:52):
Okay.
Speaker 1 (23:53):
Now, if a player is hurt and the team doesn't
really think like he's gonna play, but there's a tiny
possibility he might, what's that called.
Speaker 5 (24:01):
Oh, I'd say he's doubtful.
Speaker 1 (24:04):
Someone's telling you these I'm answering there's no way gallivanting
down the hall.
Speaker 4 (24:09):
Okay, enough with gallivanting using that's a good word. That's enough.
Speaker 1 (24:12):
They're skipping used.
Speaker 3 (24:14):
Everybody should use that one at least once in your conversations.
Speaker 4 (24:17):
This weekend one time, not twelve like ty Shirt has
least four times.
Speaker 3 (24:21):
Okay, very well, you're gonna talk to different people. They
don't know what you just said to the other guy. Well,
whoever told you those words, ty Shirt?
Speaker 1 (24:27):
They're very good. You are just about correct on all
of them. The highly probable is not the same. By
the way, it's justin he's in Brazil. By the way,
Funner is actually a real community. San Diego County was
renamed in twenty sixteen by the Ringcone Band of Lucino
Luisino Mission Indians to represent the area's focused on entertainment
(24:49):
and tourism. Is a word funner h Okay, okay. Funnest
actually is a real word that I didn't know. Funnest
is a real word? Is it derived from funnel cakes? Funnest? Well,
if you have a, I mean maybe you can. It's
the funnest funnel cakes you have. It could be the
way the funnest literation. So again, we'll get back to
(25:09):
football coming up in a couple of second Steve just
say you give the updates on everything happening between the
Chiefs and the Chargers.
Speaker 4 (25:15):
But first it's time for the play of the day.
The player.
Speaker 1 (25:17):
They brought to you by tire Rack for over forty years,
ty Irack's been opening customers find the right tires for how,
what and where they drive. Shipped fast and free backed
by free Road, has a protection with convenient installation options
like mobile tire installation. Tireraq dot com is the way
tire buying should be. Well, when you load the bases
with nobody out in the ninth inning and put your
(25:38):
team and your fans through all kinds of anxiety, but
you work your way out of it because you get
a great defensive play that you cap by covering first base,
which you should.
Speaker 4 (25:47):
Have done from the beginning. Well, you get to be
the play of the day.
Speaker 1 (25:50):
Pants together at the belt. D has his pitch bouncing.
Speaker 5 (25:54):
Ball right side Club.
Speaker 1 (25:56):
Bayacuna thrown the first Dayans covers and time in the
game un believable.
Speaker 4 (26:04):
So there it is Mets and the Reds. Let's go Mets.
Speaker 1 (26:08):
Edwin Diaz loads the bases with nobody out in the
nine because he never comes out. Nobody on and nobody
out is not enough of a challenge for him. It
is an absolute high wire erect. Every single time the
guy bleeping pitches loads the base with nobody out and
gets a ground ball to Ronald Lacuna, who makes a
great play in DZ covering first.
Speaker 4 (26:26):
It's a bang bang play, but the right call was made.
Speaker 1 (26:29):
Mets beat the Reds five for it a huge wildcard game,
and I'm just saying to myself, Okay, I really am.
I think as much as I love Diaz, I'm done
with this high wire erect. Every single time he comes in, man,
I mean, there's a it's it's not an inning until
he walks the first guy or walks the first guy
and hits the next guy, and suddenly it's like he
(26:51):
can't do it unless a I'm really got my back
Dolor Like, dude, you know, be boring once in a while, man,
strike out the side, don't let anybody on. It's okay
if you do that once in a while, you don't
need to take years off my life, which is what
Edwin Diaz does.
Speaker 4 (27:05):
Man.
Speaker 1 (27:05):
And I know the last couple of days has been
always DS is last year of his contract as he got.
Of course he's gonna opt in. No one's gonna give
him go through that, are you kidding? Of course he's.
Speaker 4 (27:14):
Gonna opt into his contract with the mets. Oh that's
what I want.
Speaker 1 (27:17):
I want to bring in my closer in the ninth
inning and then just chug thums like I'm at a
big kegger on a Friday night and then my friends
had tipped me upside down.
Speaker 4 (27:24):
I got the tap in my mouth. Give me.
Speaker 1 (27:26):
I'm just gonna chug chums, chug thumbs, slap it down,
grab another bottle, chugged the thumbs.
Speaker 4 (27:30):
Hey, what happened? Hey? We got out of it? Yeah? No,
I'm done with the high Wire Act. I'm absolutely done.
Speaker 1 (27:36):
Well, I mean, let's just go back to the roll
age relief man wars that stopped in twenty twelve. Why
did I stop in twenty twelve?
Speaker 4 (27:43):
Let's go let's get that back relief.
Speaker 1 (27:45):
Yeah, man, can you remember that?
Speaker 3 (27:47):
It's like, oh, let's look at the standings, you know,
based on saves and and well now we have all
these other advanced metrics. But I mean, what are you
gonna do Sunday when you've got sprot Day.
Speaker 1 (28:00):
I got sproket and I have big and justin fields. Yeah,
I know it's gonna be a big two or three
screen experience in my house on you and you're gonna
have to have ice packs at the ready for your yeck.
Speaker 4 (28:10):
Oh man, are you kid's gonna it? Sunday is gonna be.
Speaker 1 (28:12):
It's one of those you know, It's like, I feel
like it's when I was a kid and I used
to like going on roller coaster at four. Now I
can't stand them, but I used to like going on
roller coaster. That feeling of hey, I'm getting on now
it's exciting. But at the same time, oh man, I
don't know how really excited I am about this. This
looks really scary, Like that's kind of where I'm gonna
be on Sunday. No, I get it. I get it,
and we'll we'll check in with you. You just have
to turn the camera on every once in a while
(28:33):
so we can make sure we get the live updates
because I think our YouTube audience truly appreciate that. Uh
time now to find out what's trending in the wide
world of sports. A guy, Hey, look now, Steve o Hey,
you can lead with that unbelievable Mets game, or you
can let everybody know that Taylor Swift's fiance just found
the end zone.
Speaker 6 (28:52):
They've got a decision to make. I say, go for two.
Here the Chargers lead at the moment is twenty to
eighteen over the Chiefs twelve o four to play in regulation,
as Patrick Mahomes has just found Travis Kelcey for thirty
two yard thirty seven yards and a score. By the way,
on the ground, Mahomes has four different scrambles of at
least ten yards. That's a career high for him, and
(29:14):
that includes his eleven yard touchdown run, which was the
only ten for the Chiefs until just a moment ago.
They're going to try for a two point pass for
Mahomes here. Keep in mind that we thought we had
a tie game from the Chiefs after that Mahome touchdown
run with about eight minutes to go in the third,
but the extra point kick was missed wide right, and
(29:35):
so the Chargers had a thirteen twelve lead at the
time Mahomes pass is incomplete on this two point try,
Chargers still lead by two twenty to eighteen, twelve oh
four to play. The Chiefs offense in the first half
on third down conversions was zero for seven. They are
five for five on third downs in the second half.
(29:56):
Not a good start for Kansas City Wide receiver Xavier
Word the left early out due to his shoulder injury
after a collision with a teammate over the middle, Kelsey.
The Chiefs went three and out on the opening drive
of the season for the first time in their thirteen
openers under Andy Reid. In fact, they failed to get
a point on each of their first three drives of
a season for the first time since twenty ten. They
(30:18):
fell behind ten nothing to the Chargers by second quarter.
It is now LA twenty to eighteen over the Chiefs
homes up to one hundred and ninety four yards passing
in a touchdown Justin Herbert two hundred twenty seven yards
passing two scores, one early to Quinton Johnston and one
late late third quarter to Keenan Allen on eleven yard
(30:39):
TD reception. Forty nine. Ers running back Christian McCaffrey did
not practice due to a calf injury. He's questionable for
Sunday's opener, but he says he plans to play. Packers
defensive end Micah Parsons was limited in practice again with
a bad back. Dolphins tight end Darren Waller is out
this weekend with a strained hit, but running back to
Von h N will play after a calf injury. Saints
(31:00):
defensive end Chase Young is out with a calf injury.
Bills kicker Tyler Bass was placed on injury reserve, so
Matt Prater will kick for them Sunday, and the Eagles
signed pass rushers A Darius Smith. There are four college
football games tonight. Northwestern has won forty two to seven
over mighty winless Western Illinois, and there's a game on
(31:21):
FS one. Boise State already up thirty to seven just
before halftime against Eastern Washington. Maryland has just defeated Northern
Illinois twenty to nine. Louisville at home was tied with
James Madison to start the fourth quarter, but Louisville's now
up twenty eight to fourteen with about thirty seconds left.
To Major League Baseball, the San Francisco Giants have won
(31:43):
ten of eleven. They're winning tonight eight to two at
the Cardinals in the bottom of the eighth. The Rockies
are shutting out the Padres three nothing in the bottom
of the eighth inning. This would be lost number five
in a row for the Padres, and it would keep
them two games back of the first place Dodgers, who
lost two one at Baltimore on a solo homer in
the bottom of the ninth. Joe hey Otani had to
(32:04):
be LA's starting pitcher Tonight. He went three and two
thirds scoreless with five strikeouts. The scheduled starter, Tyler Glassnow
was scratched due to back tightness, the loss to reliever
ten Or Scott. By the way, catcher Will Smith of
the Dodgers is likely out this weekend with a bruised hand,
and the backup catcher Dalton Rushing left this game. Tonight
had to be helped off the field after fouling a
(32:26):
ball off his leg. Atlanta one with three runs bottom
of the eighth, four to one over Seattle. Victories for
Kansas City and Cleveland. Toronto beat the Yankees in New
York seven to one, wins for the Mets and Philadelphia,
wins for the Cubs and the Brewers, and the White
Sox won their sixth game in a row seven to
five at Detroit. Astros at Rangers, tied three to three
(32:48):
in the ninth.
Speaker 4 (32:48):
Back to you, Thank you, Steve O.
Speaker 1 (32:50):
And we'll take a quick joint through Patrick Mahomes's fantasy.
Speaker 4 (32:53):
Points here before we get to the big sappension.
Speaker 1 (32:56):
Uh make it just about twenty four fantasy points now
for Mahomes thanks to that touchdown pass to Travis kelce Look,
the guy's got twelve fan he's like, it's like when
Tebow played.
Speaker 4 (33:08):
Hey, you know, Tebo's getting you like twenty five fantasy points.
Speaker 1 (33:11):
Yeah, sixteen running the football and they're just a little
bit passing.
Speaker 4 (33:14):
But this is what Mahomes has.
Speaker 1 (33:16):
He's got twelve fantasy points night on the ground and
twelve fantasy points through the air.
Speaker 4 (33:20):
It's been a big night for Patrick Mahoe.
Speaker 3 (33:21):
But on that two point conversion, he could not avoid
the big left handed tart. Earlier we saw a big
right hand to the head of Travis Kelcey.
Speaker 1 (33:29):
Now he bats down the ball to preserve the two
point lead for the Chargers. By the way, I was
lamenting the fact that Northwestern did not finish the shutout.
Speaker 4 (33:37):
Yeah, well that's a collapse. It's okay.
Speaker 1 (33:39):
I mean, did you have the shutout on the h
Did you have that? Did you bet that time? That
was extra yeah? Oh okay, yeah, extra sauce, extra sauce.
So again, make it twenty to eighteen. Chargers lead the
Chiefs right now, eleven minutes to go in the fourth quarter,
Chargers have the football second down at their own thirty
two yard line, and we got a great finish coming
(34:03):
up here because hey, this has been a ton of fun.
And suddenly Patrick Mahomes doing Patrick Mahomes things. Hey we
had a close game last night, got a close yet
doesn't matter if it's great as long as it's close.
Speaker 4 (34:14):
And we got two big close games to start the season.
I don't think we could ask for more.
Speaker 1 (34:18):
No, that's it. Who could ask for anything more? And
this one in Brazil. And you know, yesterday we were
talking about Brazil versus Australia, things that might get you,
you know, not to get a morbidden back on that
it was the anniversary of the passing is Steve Irwin?
Oh yeah, I remember about the air that night. Remember
the other night when he when he died. It is
like John Anderson came on the show because he did
(34:39):
the commercial with him for ESPNU when he was at
behind Sports Center. He came on and told a great,
great stories about him do working with him with the
for the show. I remember that night, just being stunned
a back, and I mean John Anderson driving home going
I don't know, I had a tough time at work tonight.
It was really really difficult. Like that's that's still a
stunning thing all these years later, because the guy was
you'd see him. He was the picture of energy and
(35:01):
health and excitement and good tidings and good feelings. And
it's still a shocking one all these years later, still
makes me want to go see the world. Let's go
Jason Smith Mike Harmon live from the Fox Sports Radio studios.
Speaker 4 (35:13):
So there we go.
Speaker 1 (35:14):
Wanted to get you this update here with the NFL again,
twenty to eighteen, ten minutes to go in the fourth quarter,
but coming up next.
Speaker 4 (35:20):
Yes we have more.
Speaker 1 (35:22):
NFL and that big suspension that we talked about again,
we don't we're getting a big one today. We got one,
just not the one we thought it was gonna be.
It's next right here, Jason and Mike Fox.
Speaker 2 (35:34):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific.
Speaker 4 (35:41):
Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 1 (35:42):
The Jason Smith Show with my best friend Mike Harmon.
Much Jope as good as Patrick Mahomes has been keeping
the Chiefs in this game all by himself, may have
his work cut out for him. Now Justin Herbert now
has just thrown his third touchdown of the game, making
an even three hundred yards, passing fine Quentin Johnston for
(36:03):
his second time of the game. Johnson now five for
seventy nine to two touchdowns. Extra point is good, So
five oh two in the fourth make it a nine
point lead for the Chargers, twenty seven to eighteen. Still
time left for Mahomes. But boy, that missed extra point
and then the miss two point conversion. Sometimes those are
(36:23):
the plays that just absolutely kill you. And clearly that's
where you're at right now, because Harrison Butcker's mixed extra
point forced the Chiefs to go for two the next
time they scored a touchdown, they didn't get it there.
Speaker 4 (36:33):
And now instead of a.
Speaker 1 (36:34):
Touchdown game where hey, clearly the Chiefs are still in it,
getting the ball back plenty of time. Now it's get
the ball back score stop them get the ball back again,
because nine point disadvantage now with five minutes left to go.
Speaker 3 (36:46):
Yeah, those three points off of the Butker and the
two point conversion, they offset the Omarian Hampton three point
gap at the end of the first half. But this
was a play where I can't get the replay because
with YouTube TV there's no rewinding it or with YouTube
I'm like, I want to go back and i want
to see the other angle. You know what, they always say,
(37:07):
it's not holding if they don't call it, like in
that got being held by the running back trying to
but again you don't call it, you end up getting
a personal file at the back end of the play.
So it'll be on the ensuing kickoff. But Justin Herbert
again clean, clean jersey and pants club today.
Speaker 1 (37:26):
So three hundred yard game for Justin Herbert. Will have
more in this game coming in about ten minutes. But
we spent last night talking a lot about suspensions that
could happen today.
Speaker 4 (37:36):
He is Jalen Carter going to get suspended for week two?
Speaker 1 (37:38):
Well, Dak Prescott gets suspended for week two with Spitgate
and everything going on, Well, we're getting a suspension. We're
getting a suspension that we thought we were gonna get.
It's just one that we talked about a few days ago.
The Chicago Sky have suspended Angel Reese for the first
half of their game Sunday against the Aces for what
the team called quote statements detrimental to the team. This
(38:01):
handles back from her interview a few days ago with
the Chicago Tribune in which she lit her teammates on
fire and had lit her organization on fire, criticized her coach,
criticized some other players. Said if things don't change, she
might have to leave. I mean, there's certain things you
can say if you are upset with your organization. You
want to blame the front office for things, Hey, that
(38:23):
happens all the time. But when you blame your teammates
and say me and only one other player should be
the ones definitively coming back next year and calling out
other players by name that you might not be good enough,
you're too old coming back from an injury. Courtney Vanderslute,
you know that you can play next year. This is
a really, really difficult thing that's completely on brand for
(38:43):
Angel Reese. They had to have a meeting with her teammates.
She apologized to them. She kind of apologized after the game.
Now she didn't play tonight because she is serving a
suspension for her a technical foul of the season, but
suspended for the first half on Sunday.
Speaker 4 (38:57):
And I'll tell you two things.
Speaker 1 (38:58):
Number One, I'm surprised it's only for a half and
not for the rest of the season, which is only
two more games. Because this is I don't know how
you are in the locker room with this team for
the last couple of games of a season in which
you're not going to the playoffs. You just want the
season to end at this point, I don't know how
you're around the team after you said what you said.
I really don't know. And what comes around you think
(39:19):
you think it's it's something where she's too big of
a star, But I guarantee you the Chicago sky they're
having the conversations. Is Angel Reese more trouble than she's worth?
Is it really going to work for her here? The
last two years we've had her, we've been terrible, right,
We've been terrible. She hasn't started to turn around. We
don't know if she's going to be a leader. All
she was insult her teammates, organization. Is her talent worth it?
(39:41):
And sometimes with players, the answer is resounding yes, they're
worth it. That's okay. It's why, Hey, Micah Parson should
still be a cowboy. Is talent's worth it? Other players
talent's worth it. But is Angel Reese's talent worth it.
I'm telling you the answer might be no. And I'm
not gonna be surprised if she is traded in the offseason.
We see big, big time players move the WNBA all
the time. I would not be surprised she's not on
(40:02):
the sky next year.
Speaker 6 (40:04):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (40:04):
I mean, you look at the final two games, so
missing a half shrug and move on. A final game
is at home, So I'm gonna go out on a
limb and say they did not want whatever flow would
flow out of her not being there for whatever they've sold,
whatever the fan appreciation is, all of that stuff, just
basically saying, all right, everybody be professional. Let's just get
(40:25):
through these final two games. We go into the offseason.
There will be changes now. She will not be there,
most likely with Miss Cardozo as she'd hope to be that.
There'll be some new teammates there. Certainly the roster will
shuffle and there's things that'll take place. But you know,
she told him took that NBA tac that we've talked about, Jason,
(40:48):
and she talked her way out of town. Normally it's
just I want to go somewhere else, as opposed to
the Nate Palming of everybody else. She just chose a
bold strategy in doing so, because I don't know how
you get well, didn't any other locker room coming out
of that?
Speaker 1 (41:02):
Yeah, I mean I know you you need a fresh
like she needs a fresh start at this point. Clear
she wasn't happy that Teresa Weatherspoon got fired. Well, hasn't
been happy. The team hasn't been good. It's like, can
you say that Angel Reese is gonna lead your turnaround?
I mean, it's it's a really, it's a it's a
tough thing to ask when you say, well, we haven't
done anything right, Like Katelyn Clark at least said, hey,
we were really good.
Speaker 4 (41:21):
We were out of the players for so long. We
got back last year.
Speaker 1 (41:24):
But I mean, for Angel Reese, I don't know that
the answer is a yes. And I'm telling you had to.
If I had to go to Vegas with odds right now,
I would say, yeah, blockbuster trading Angel Reese is somewhere
else next year for a fresh start, cause you know
you've got a team that'll look at it for the
bottom line.
Speaker 4 (41:39):
Oh yeah.
Speaker 1 (41:39):
Hope and hoping that she learns her lesson and matures
a little bit and understands you can't say things like
that exit ou about a Fresca exit swallowing dome more
from Brazil and we start our big NFL prediction of
Week one, Fox
