Speaker 3 (01:06):
You're pretty.
Speaker 1 (01:07):
Thanks, You're prettier than the bears. Oh that's that's kind
of it's kind of easy.
Speaker 4 (01:12):
As low hanging fruit.
Speaker 1 (01:13):
But you know what, that's okay, it's kind of kind
of easy. No, look, sometimes you need to just take
the easy win. Yeah. Now, look, we'll get to the
big moment in Major League Baseball. That look, I'll tell
you what the playoffs are going to boil down to.
It's one team, one thing. When you talk about one
winning the World's one thing, one thing. Who wins the
World Series is coming down to one team and one thing.
(01:36):
We'll get to in a couple of minutes. But it's
been fun tonight to talk about the legacy of the
movie The Natural. I mean, look where we're celebrating the
life of Robert Redford, who passed away earlier today at
the age of eighty nine.
Speaker 3 (01:49):
An unbelievable career.
Speaker 1 (01:51):
You talk about movie star like his picture is next
to the definition of the ditchrait. What is a movie star?
It's Robert Redford. The number of films that he has
had throughout his life that he had. I mean, whether
it's The Natural or Butch and Sundance, the Sting, everybody's
got their favorites, but it was it was great today
to see people gravitate to the Natural. Right, it's fun
(02:13):
for you know, obviously I was doing sports being the
sports fan. I look as much as I love Butch
and Sundance, and I can quote you Butch and Sundance
top to bottom.
Speaker 3 (02:20):
I worked for mister E. H. Harriman. Hey would cock.
Speaker 1 (02:24):
Uh, it's great to see The Natural because that's the
movie that of all the sports movies that that that
have been part of my life now, you know, over
the last you know, watching movies the last fifty years,
I don't think there's a better one than The Natural,
simply because it's the one sports movie that every time
it's and I do it from Moneyball, but that's a
(02:44):
little bit more of a latter day thing.
Speaker 3 (02:46):
That was only about fifteen years ago.
Speaker 1 (02:48):
But The Natural. Oh is still gonna stop and watch
no matter what. Stopping to watch The Natural, and I've
seen it two hundred and fifty times. I can give you,
give you every line of that movie too. Oh, the
Natural is on. I'm gonna watch it some of the
other great, great, great sports movies. I'm not always stopping
to watch Rocky, right, I'm not always stopping to watch uh,
which Rocky Rocky the Rocky one, or Rocky two, or
(03:09):
Rocky three, Rocky four, three or four, you might get me.
I'm never watching Rocky five. Okay, I'm skipping right over that, right,
What about Rocky Bell? Go right to Rocky Bell. Bow
wasn't bad, but I'll go right to the Creed movies
then if I'm looking for if I'm looking for oh, okay, yeah,
like like as much as I love A League of
their Own, right, I mean it's a movie. I used
always stop on that, but I don't stop on anything
as much as I stop on the natural, Like oh
(03:31):
the night wherever they are they in Chicago. The Knights
in Chicago can't do anything right now? Why Knights are
in Chicago. He's gonna break a clock pretty soon, he's
gonna hit a home run, and there's someone is gonna
be a photographer three feet away in the bat and
in the in the uh in the right outside uh
Willia maybe three feet five feet, I don't know, five
(03:52):
feet outside the batter's box all of a sudden, taking
that picture when he hits the home run.
Speaker 4 (03:55):
Yeah, might might have always been eight men out.
Speaker 1 (03:57):
But we've had that conversation many, many times. In terms
of my h I've really had anything that gets set
in Chicago. You know, I'm a sucker for So when
you know, with the Robert Redford uh biography and going
through the the state, the Sting is is my movie
because you know Robert Shaw being you know, one of
(04:17):
the great dupes. And I'm sorry, does he I forget
because I've seen this thing in the wild. Does he
get the shark at the end of the Sting or no, No,
shark gets him there too. It's not a fake where
you think Redford they got Redford.
Speaker 3 (04:30):
They didn't.
Speaker 1 (04:31):
It's not that that, you know, that was what really quick.
That's one of my favorite stories of Paul Newman ever
told was when he gets the script for The Sting,
Redford had already signed on, right, so because when when
Butcher and Sun Dance came out, like Redford was a nobody, right,
nobody who he was, and then Newman was the star
and obviously they became great friends. Would say we were
drunk on the set every night and doing the movie everything.
(04:53):
So when they get to The Sting in seventy three,
Redford's a huge star. He signs on for the movie
and they sent Newman the script and Newman's reading the
script and he loved it. He gets the point where
Redford is shot and he dies, and he got so mad,
like I called my age and I said, what the
hell would go put me on with the writer the director.
You can't kill Redford at this point in the script.
This is ridiculous. This is the worst thing you could
(05:14):
possibly do. And they said, keep going, keep going, and
then read and he reads, Oh, they only pretended to
kill him as part of as part of the con
He goes, I didn't even get to the end of
the script, and I said, you got me. I'm in right,
Like yeah, he I was so mad. You can't kill
him at this point and that's get somebody up. Oh
just keep oh okay, okay, finished reading Act three. But
(05:37):
something like the power of the natural, right, because we
talk about this with with Back to the Future, where
you know you've seen that movie a thousand times and
still when Doc Brown is trying to plug the clock
back in at the end, it's so nerve wracking, right,
tell me started looking for the tickets for the coming
back to theaters right to the anniversary in the in
(05:58):
the in the modern era of movies, that's the best
movie that they've met. You're fast, So moments like that
were still you've see it. It's still he's trying to
plug it in and then it catches on his pant leg.
You're like, wow, the natural the moment when wonder Boy
splits right like he's like he hits the foul ball.
And that's a great moment because you think, oh, my goodness,
(06:20):
he got it, like you're getting it right away. And
you see the crowd look up and they start to
fade and he said, all fading, fading, and it goes foul.
You're like, oh, man, he just missed it. And they
show you that wide shot of Redford coming back to
the plate after the foul ball, and you can see
on the ground the bat is split. Now they don't
close close up it like they do it. Barry Levinson
(06:40):
did a phenomenal job directing this movie. And you see
the bat and I can still remember the first time
I saw it in the theater. The woman behind me
gasped and went, oh, it's broken. And I saw it
right away, and then the entire theater saw it. One Oh, like,
wonder Boy, he's broken, like can't play anymore.
Speaker 3 (07:01):
The bat's broken. They gotta can spend the game.
Speaker 1 (07:04):
He's gotta go cut down a tree that it hits
my lightning and make another Like it's it's such a
it's such one of those moments that takes your breath
away and still see it again all these years later.
Speaker 3 (07:14):
I know he hits the foul ball.
Speaker 1 (07:15):
Oh man, like going through his head is I just
missed that, right, I just missed it. I could have
won the game. And I go back and now I
don't have a bat. I have no idea what am I?
I don't have another bat? Like, really, you got guys,
you know baseball they have they get new bats all
the time right around.
Speaker 3 (07:31):
No, I had this one bat. I had one bat
and that's it and I use it the entire season,
and now it's broken. I don't know what I'm gonna do.
Speaker 1 (07:36):
Fairly amazing bat, so many bats and hits and it's
such a big deal, like this is my beat, this
is my bet.
Speaker 3 (07:45):
I'm gonna tell the bat boy dad, just pick one.
Speaker 1 (07:47):
Out, brig it to me, and Bobby just goes okay,
And of course he comes back with his A voice
special and it's such an amazing moment. And again the
guy gets on the field takes a picture before he
goes up to bat, and it's such a great thing.
But that moment of of when the bat splits, I
still remember the first time seeing it and just being
absolutely I did not see that coming, right, I don't
(08:10):
know anybody saw it coming, because it's not like it
was foreshadowed at allays he it's a great bat, and
look at what he is he hitting, and then you know,
you get the story told after that. He's still a
great player no matter what kind of bat he uses.
And obviously that's one of the lessons you take away
from this. But just to just that to see that
bat split, cause it's not split in half where it's like, oh,
here's that bat. It's like you you could just see that, hey,
(08:31):
the top part like it's broken, how a bat.
Speaker 3 (08:34):
Would break, and and and and the the shock in it.
Speaker 1 (08:37):
When and Redford realized, he just starts stopping walking slow,
like like when you come up, like like you come
upon a dead body in the forest.
Speaker 3 (08:44):
I'm not for.
Speaker 1 (08:48):
All of a sudden there's Jerry or Box standing home
for it with a pun, or William Peterson.
Speaker 3 (08:53):
He just sticks the bat back together. Tape. Give me
some tape second, I gotta use it.
Speaker 1 (08:58):
I can still use his bat right, I mean that
moment is just I need a bucket of SAP.
Speaker 4 (09:02):
I need something.
Speaker 1 (09:04):
I got to free it back together. Maybe I can,
Maybe I can fish one for an infield hit, you know,
just you know, drop it over the second basement's end week.
Speaker 4 (09:13):
It's okay, it's still good. It's still good.
Speaker 3 (09:16):
I leave it up to the next guy next. So again,
you know, just part of our our homage of the Natural.
Speaker 1 (09:22):
So great though, I mean just the setting, the scenery,
all the acting performances and just the ledgend of it.
Add the soundtrack and and everything done. And we joke
about Randy Newman, right because how many times have we
heard I love LA on this show. Yeah, in the
last decade, blairs it after every game, after every damn win,
(09:44):
every home run, et cetera. So like when you get
deep into and Randy Newman, people know all the music
from all the Disney products that he's been part of,
but here he is, uh, you know, is doing the
soundtrack to the Natural, and the music and the the
final final music of it of it for the end scene,
(10:05):
which was something I had added randomly to my playlist.
Go Okay, So, like I was scrolling through today and
I went to play something and I'm like, right behind
underneath it was the the.
Speaker 3 (10:19):
Cover the poster of The Natural.
Speaker 1 (10:20):
I'm like, wow, that's odd that that was like and
that same day, So like going through it today and
you're watching these scenes as as you want to do
when things like this happened, and and again I get
into the music, so you start getting that motion.
Speaker 3 (10:39):
Exactly, you know.
Speaker 1 (10:40):
And the other one too from that that I always
love that I always watch is is just the the
overall feeling you get, you know, because the Judge and
Gusts are so bad, and they're such the bad guys
throughout the whole movie, and Robert Prosky is so good.
Turn off that infernal light. He hits the home run
and obviously, yes, you hit one light and all of
a sudden, all the lights in the stadium are connected
(11:02):
and they all start going off.
Speaker 4 (11:03):
Everybody's having Christmas flashbacks, buddy.
Speaker 1 (11:05):
That that first shot, you know, because they're celebrated and
they kind of have a muted celebration. The Dug guy
at first, well like, hey, right, you just see Wilford
Brimley and Red just kind of shake hands.
Speaker 3 (11:16):
Hey, that's great, congratulations. Then everybody's jumping around.
Speaker 1 (11:18):
It's like, hey, the first reaction after the guy it's
a home run to win the pennant to go to
the World Series. You're jumping around, Hey, nice job. Can
gradually congratulations.
Speaker 4 (11:25):
But I mean when everything starts exploding, don't you think raps?
Speaker 3 (11:27):
Yeah, a little.
Speaker 1 (11:28):
Bit, well, and clearly nobody cared. Hey the sparks are
coming down, landing on players. Yeah, okay, we're gonna get burned. Uh.
But the one the shit happen, you know, and you think,
I'm gonna say the shot of Wilfrid Brimley staring out
and you see the sparks in his glasses, the reflection
of him watching like in Wonder. But that shot of
(11:49):
of of of the Judge, of Robert Prosky looking up
with that look of what just happened on his face
and all the sparks are falling in.
Speaker 3 (11:58):
Front of him.
Speaker 1 (11:59):
You know, he's he's removed from the from the situation
because he's in his office, you know, behind closed doors,
you know, because he's in the shadows the entire movie,
and just when he's looking like what just happened? And
the and you see the the the the sparks just
all flying down in front of like it's all falling
apart for me, Like it's a that's like a Greek
tragedy end, Like you don't know he's lost it because
(12:22):
Pop is gonna buy him out.
Speaker 3 (12:23):
He's not gonna own the Nights anymore. It's done all his.
Speaker 1 (12:25):
Evil doings and fixing games and it's all coming apart
fro him in that one moment. But they don't, they
don't give it to you so much where hey, you're
rejoicing in the bad guy. It's just, hey, this story
is about heroes and about Roy Hobbs, and but we're
letting you know they know, right, And then they cut.
Then then it's later on it's him and Gusts that
are looking up at But that first shot of just
(12:46):
what just happened, it's so powerful.
Speaker 3 (12:48):
It's it's such a.
Speaker 1 (12:49):
Powerful moment at the end of the game to see that,
Like I want to see that, Like when the Mets
hit big home runs. Show me the other team, show
me how Man, show me the other team that I
don't like, show me what they say, show me, let
me see the Phillies, let me see Phillies ownership. When
franciscoa door it that grand slam in the playoffs last year,
show me that with all the sparks coming down, let
(13:09):
me see all that. Of course, naturally I had to
look it up if he was in there, naturally right now? Yeah,
Savoy Special had fifteen starts, one hundred and fifty nine
thousand career earnings at the track. Really okay, sold to
Todd Pletcher, one of the great trainers. Wow, okay, so
old school stuff right here. Oh, very problem. Two thousand
(13:31):
and two to two thousand and five was the active
career versus boy Special boys specially look get me, I'm
a nerd a whole other level exit out by a
Fresco exit swollen down the Jason Smith Show with my

big night salute to the natural and Robert Redford's career.

So ten to eleven games left in the Major League
baseball season. We're counting down. A lot of playoff spots
are been clinched already, and I'll tell you what the
playoffs are gonna come down to, and has to do
with something we just saw tonight that that really defies explanation.
(15:29):
Pain of all the stars, whether it's judge Ralei Schwarber,
that's not gonna decide the playoffs. Because I'm a firm
believer that when the playoffs start, all of the problems
that the Dodgers have been navigating over the past few months, Hey,
(15:50):
that lineup is gonna straighten up and hit. They'll find
they'll find the starting pitching they need for the for
three games Otani. You know, look, we talked to John
Paul Morosi earlier this hour. He's not gonna have any limitations.
Five innings of no hit baseball tonight for show Hayo Tani.
But obviously he comes out of the game because you're
not gonna do that to show.
Speaker 3 (16:08):
Hey, he's just building back up. He was only at
sixty eight pitches.
Speaker 1 (16:12):
You could have potentially left him out there a little
bit longer, but you know, really, why would you but
five no hit innings for show Hao Tani.
Speaker 3 (16:21):
Enter the Dodgers' bullpen.
Speaker 1 (16:23):
Yeah, we Bleski and Henriquez come in and they give
up a big Dinger two and a four to nothing
Dodger lead is now a six' Four phillies lead as
The dodgers bat in the bottom of the eighth. Inning
what's going to decide the playoffs is The dodgers', bullpen
one hundred percent good or. Bad that's gonna decide the.
(16:45):
Playoffs if The dodger bullpen is, good they'll win The
World series. Again the lineup is too. Good they'll all start.
Hitting Mookie betts has finally started. Hitting they'll get the
starting pitching they. Need i'm not concerned about. That, yes
The brewers are. Terrific The phillies are gonna win the
Nlest i've already. Won then they're gonna win by fifteen.
Games you got really good teams in The American. League
The tigers are are solid top to. Bottom The mariners
(17:06):
are really coming. On but it really doesn't. Matter The
dodger bullpen is what's gonna do it. Right The dodger
bullpen is gonna be the. Story if The dodger bullpen
is good like it was last, year, Right remember when
they were they were teetering at the at the brink
of getting knocked out of the. Playoffs you get an
entire bullpen game from The dodgers to shut out The.
Padres they Win game. Five their bullpen is really good
(17:28):
the rest of the, way and they win The World.
Series but if This dodgers bullpen is, bad The dodgers
are going. Home because it's not just that the bullpen
gives up. RUNS i think they've given up the most
home runs from a bullpen in The National league all.
SEASON i think they're second overall In Major League baseball
most home runs given up by from the bullpen all.
(17:50):
Year that's what kills you in the. Playoffs, man it's
not all these big rallies because you're changing pictures all the.
Time but you have the mark FOR pensi to give
up that big. Dinger it's almost like The dodger levers
haven't their. Contract you give up a home, run you
get a. Bonus like that's REALLY i, mean they get
taken deep all the. Time they don't have they don't
have nearly the shut down capabilities like we thought they
(18:11):
had coming into the. Season they had three, closers they
can go to any of these, guys and clearly now you.
Can't you're not gonna fix this in the last ten
to eleven. Games either the bullpen stands up or it.
Doesn't and that's the all the big star. Players Ore
tani can hit home. Runs you just had a home run.
Here they get fIF to make it a six to
five game, now but still it doesn't. Matter this is
a game that really doesn't matter for The, phillies doesn't
(18:33):
really matter for The. Dodgers but The dodgers'. Bullpen if it's,
Bad dodgers are going home and somebody else is winning
The World. SERIES i know that we talk about The
brewers Of. Faulty, yeah it's. Great The yankees are. Hot
Now dodgers' bullpen is.
Speaker 3 (18:45):
Good they.
Speaker 1 (18:45):
Win if they're not. Good they can't win The World
series with this bullpen like it. Is because bullpen's are
so important the, playoffs they take out tantamount expectations and.
Responsibility bullpen comes in every game in the third. Inning
now you get a start it through three. Innings happened
on back. Going hey gret you're geting a contract, extension.
Man you have to three it into the playoffs like
that's how big a deal it. Is and The dodgers'
(19:06):
bullpen is just they implode all the.
Speaker 3 (19:09):
Time for two zero.
Speaker 1 (19:11):
E er twenty first In Major League baseball entering tonight's,
game a combined whip of, one, three three and seventy
five home runs allowed that it would be third in
The National, league just Behind washington And. Miami but you're
talking about you, know rarefied. Air when you get To,
colorado the bullpen's getting up ninety.
Speaker 4 (19:33):
Four but you know you're.
Speaker 3 (19:35):
Also going to the bullpen in the third inning many many.
Speaker 1 (19:37):
Times but we've WATCHED i, mean you AND i have
been doing this now a little over a, decade and
how Many World series and playoff runs if we've seen
where we're just left shaking our head with the number
of moves that a manager's. Going go back to What
Joe madden, did you know with The. Cubs go look
at What Dave roberts was doing last, year and it
(19:58):
was pulling the. Strings this, Year, uh The dodgers to some, degree, thought,
hey we're gonna mitigrate all those. Circumstands we're gonna go
pay for bullpen. Help and it has not Been uh
he got three. Closers they got three, clans they spent
a lot of money to do. It and now you're
you're looking at. It do you trust any of these
guys coming into a big situation right? Now it's why
(20:21):
you go you AND i go. Back and people can
check the audio. Tape how early in the, process even
before the season started to his, show he gonna be
the closer before at LEAST i know him where he
is mentally, now mechanically and where he is and all.
That uh, there we're gonna be. Questions uh has he
done it? Well he did in The World Baseball. Classic
there's a trading card commemorating him striking Out Mike. Trout,
(20:44):
uh to take care of some. Business but it is
the all the most of these. Teams when we talk
about batting orders like and that doesn't mean that The
brewers are The.
Speaker 3 (20:55):
Yankees.
Speaker 1 (20:55):
Uh we we see the conga lines like the Old
Bugs bunny card. Too that can happen with The dodgers as.
Well right where the long ball starts flying, phillies we've
seen it tonight and many other. Games but the bullpen
and the fact that so many games you're going to
five or six, guys the fact that every night you've
got to have a little bit of the baseball gods
(21:18):
on your.
Speaker 4 (21:18):
Side that you don't.
Speaker 1 (21:19):
Hit the wrong guy, right you'll tap the wrong guy
in at the wrong, moment one bad pitch that just
torpedoes everything you. Built and that's where the wild card
rounds and trying desperately to avoid them was such a
big push over these last two three. Weeks but as
we as it stands, NOW i, mean The phillies got
(21:41):
to celebrate yesterday THE Al east or in THE Nl,
EAST i should. Say and now we keep watching as
The dodgers try to steal his. Victory nothing will turn
the playoffs more than The dodgers'. Bullpen Jason Smith Mike,
Harmon live from The Fox Sports radio. Studios, now a
(22:02):
big story Broke sunday before the, games and obviously we
had The sunday games And monday night and, now, really
wait a, minute did this really? Happen are we coming
back to? This and this involves everybody's favorite third string,
Quarterback Shador, sanders who really maybe in his final year
in THE. Nfl okay story breaks that The ravens wanted
(22:25):
to Draft Shadoor sanders And chador's camp, said, no don't.
Speaker 3 (22:30):
Want to go. That don't want to go back Up
Lamar jackson for however many more. Years the guy's THE.
Speaker 1 (22:34):
Mvp don't want to go, there and that became a big,
question and of course The browns beat. Reporters, okay we
got to ask about this and find out About so
here are The browns playing another, game falling to zero and,
two and it's all about what what Did Shador sanders
say or? Do that's got everybody running to him for.
Questions and he was asked if it, happened and according
(22:54):
to all the, Responses Schador sanders, said.
Speaker 3 (22:57):
Uh you, KNOW i don't.
Speaker 1 (22:58):
Remember, uh my mind doesn't remember five months, ago like post.
DRAFT i Just i'm just focused on the. Now and
that was a really bizarre answer to. Give, basically it's,
him you, know if that didn't, happen he would have said,
NO i never said something like. That that's not because
this paints, him as you, know in a bad. Light
if he was making demands of teams that, no don't draft,
(23:19):
me don't draft, Me i'm not gonna come there and
back Up Lamar. Jackson so if that was the, case
you'd want to get ahead of. This Shador sanders has
to understand that he is on his leg his first,
go but maybe his last go in THE nfl because
he's a third string quarterback for The. Browns, okay you're
the third string quarterback for The. Browns if you don't
(23:41):
see the field, here are you really gonna see the?
Speaker 3 (23:43):
Field you know they're.
Speaker 1 (23:44):
Gonna go quarterback in the, draft whether it's Nus meyer
or Arch, manning whoever it, is in the, Offseason Carson,
beck whatever it winds up. Being every couple of, weeks
there's a story That casha Door sanders in a negative,
light and a lot of it is of his own.
Doing like this story right, Here and does this matter?
Now not really because this is something that happened before the,
(24:04):
draft this is five or six months. Ago but still
it's a negative story Involving Shador sanders that reminds The
browns and any other, team, hey you have this guy
in your. Roster this is stuff that's gonna. Happen Right
there's never any quiet time With Shador, sanders and he's
got to get that this could be his last year
(24:24):
in THE. Nfl he is a fifth round pick and
if things don't work, out he doesn't see the, field
all of things happening over the course of the next
fourteen or fifteen. Weeks they're not gonna bring him.
Speaker 3 (24:34):
Back next.
Speaker 1 (24:35):
Year they'll have a new, Quarterback Dylan gabriel will probably,
Stay he'll be the, backup and again it'll be Nuss
meyer whoever else they wind up, drafting.
Speaker 3 (24:41):
And who's gonna pick Up Shador sanders and, say, yeah
you're our.
Speaker 1 (24:44):
Guy they're not gonna see an entire draft to the
off season that is littered with negative attention and, controversy
whether it's his speeding tickets or how he behaves towards
a reporter after his FIRST nfl start in the, preseason or,
hey you really told teams not to draft? You, like
the guy's gotta understand and whoever he's got, ADVISED i
(25:06):
have to. Understand you're not some great. Prospect you're not some,
great can't miss guy that can call all the. Shots
you're a fifth round pick that is hanging on by
his fingernails in THE. Nfl and if you, think, Hey
i'm gonna get out Of cleveland after this year and
a team is gonna say sign me up for? That
for a guy who's a. Curiosity no one's gonna do.
(25:27):
It you have to be able to put your head,
down stay out of the news and work. Right Baker
mayfield got. That you, Know, HEY i gotta understand now
After cleveland they booted me to the. CURB i gotta
go someplace. ELSE i can't have big. HEADLINES i can't
do WHAT i used to. DO i gotta put my
head down and find my way back to be a.
Starter and it took them years to get. Back took
them years to get. Back they took him four years
(25:48):
to get back to being that, guy and it was.
Shador sanders isn't even gonna get. THAT i, mean he
just has to see reality, that, dude this could be
your last chance to be a quarterback in THE nfl
before if you want to keep, playing you gotta go
TO cfl or something, else or play somewhere or not play.
Anymore no one's going to treat you as the big,
(26:09):
star as the big diva that you get to call
the shots. On he's got to get, that. Man, well
what's funny about it is, Right so this comes out
as we're in the the hours just ahead a. Kickoff
i'd already finished The sunday morning Show i'm doing With
Greg COSELL Nfl, films The Matchup. Show he, SAYS i
all of that that we do On Sunday. Morning So i'm, like.
Speaker 3 (26:30):
All, right well that's in the pocket for next.
Speaker 1 (26:32):
Week but this, story it's just been funny the reaction
people that were so quick to believe all the OH
i heard from a thing with the guy in the
place that he was kind of blackballed BY nfl. Teams
everybody will jump in and, lockstick stock and barrel and,
say you know what that. HAPPENED i heard that that's
(26:52):
gotta be. True whereas they're quick to dismiss this. Report
it's got, specificity and it's just an extension of the
pre draft reports that we'd been hearing right, about problem,
interviews problem meetings with, coaches all of. That this just
added another team to that list as you got ready
(27:13):
for this week two, game right because we had it
with The, giants we had it with some other teams
where you had the specificity, there and then it kind
of went into the offing and now it got to
dredged back up and THIS i don't THINK i believe.
Speaker 4 (27:25):
That it's, like, well you believe the other. Part so
why is this that hard to?
Speaker 3 (27:31):
Believe? Right if you're.
Speaker 1 (27:32):
Believing that suddenly there's some grand conspiracy to not draft
a guy for four plus, rounds that there was a
team that really wanted him and he didn't want to go.
There you're you're not willing.
Speaker 4 (27:44):
To go to that cross that bridge with. ME i
don't understand.
Speaker 1 (27:48):
That but the fact that he goes to, hey twenty
four hour, RULE i don't, Remember like it's just a bad.
Look either own it or it just sits out there
like a lead. Balloon because eventually you're gonna have to
answer this, question whether internally with The browns BECAUSE i
gotta imagine someone it's, like really sure what's going on?
(28:09):
Here or once you're done with The browns and you're
into trying to find your next. Job you don't think
that's gonna be question number one or. Two your tape
from that first preseason, game there were a couple of great.
Highlights we were on, air we talked about. It there
were a couple of things to really like and things
that you saw him at his best when he was At.
Colorado but this just adds ammunition to, well why you
(28:34):
wouldn't even go down that. PATH a lot of, quarterbacks
a lot of, movement, right we already got how.
Speaker 4 (28:39):
Many guys are starting to new guys this?
Speaker 3 (28:41):
Week five.
Speaker 1 (28:41):
Already, YEAH i mean we're gonna cross that fifty nine
number from last year pretty. Fast it was sixty seven
a couple of years. Ago so people are gonna be
desperate for. Quarterbacks they're not gonna be dialing up asking
for your number and bringing you in if you've got
reports like this opportunity to. Play, LOOK i think the
(29:02):
guy's got some. Talent but to try to just dismiss
this report as if it's a non, issue it seems
pretty foolhardy To, YEAH i, mean, dude you have to
get you have to get an understand that that this
is your. Football YOUR nfl mortality is. Here, Man like
you have one foot out of the. League no matter
what you think about yourself and you think how great you,
are all this, tuff no matter what you this is the.
(29:24):
Reality AND i want somebody to say that to. HIM
i want somebody to tell, him, hey, man this is
this is where we're. AT i, mean whether he's listening
to don or whoever, Else, like do you GOTTA i get, it,
MAN i get. That you spent your whole life being a.
Star you were a star quarterback in, college you were
a great college quarterback, man you were fan blee. Fantastic
but this is where you're. At but here's the other
part to me is that this shows that you the
(29:47):
people that are advising, you and as you're discussing, it
you just don't get it because we're not talking first
round wherever this was in the, process, right second, round.
Speaker 4 (29:57):
Third, round. Wherever wherever it was in the.
Speaker 3 (29:59):
Draft problem is.
Speaker 1 (30:01):
Inconsequential it's the larger perspective of you have a team
that has for years been a model of stability in
what is the most chaotic league in all of, sports
right in terms of how many teams do you trust
from top to bottom know what the hell they're doing
on a on a yearly.
Speaker 4 (30:21):
Basis and The ravens wanted to bring you in and you.
Speaker 3 (30:23):
Said, no, YEAH i, know right like.
Speaker 1 (30:26):
That that takes it to a whole different. Level, Right
it's not, hey it's The, jets it's. This it's, SORRY
i had to that's. Fine you know one of the
teams that we're always, wondering all, right what's the. Logic
what's the thinking as they're building or trying to build The.
Ravens they're one of the franchises that you are hallmarks
(30:46):
to this. League and the allegation is that you told
them THAT i don't want to go? There?
Speaker 3 (30:52):
Exit how about A fresca?
Speaker 1 (30:53):
Exit swelling Down The Jason Spiths show with my best
Friend Mike. Harmon coming up, next a big story out
of the end l the last twenty four hours at
honesty is really overrated AND i don't know how many
fans really care about.
Speaker 3 (31:06):
It that's next right, Here jason Of Mike.
Speaker 2 (31:08):
Fox be sure to catch live editions Of The Jason
Smith show With Mike harmon weekdays at ten Pm, eastern
seven Pm, Pacific.
Speaker 1 (31:15):
Fox Sports Radio The Jason Smith show With Mike. Harmon
just when we, say, hey The dodger bullpen is going
to be the deciding factor in the. Playoffs the hell,
man they give up another home. Run phillies now lead
nine to. Six my, god in the ninth, inning that
five no hit effort By Shoeo toddy seems like a lifetime.
Speaker 4 (31:34):
Ago those are the? Days are you kidding?
Speaker 1 (31:36):
Me?
Speaker 3 (31:37):
Good lord of more in this? Game coming up in
a few. Minutes but.
Speaker 1 (31:41):
THE nfl is not met At Tom. Brady many people
in the media are really mad At Tom. Brady, brady
who of course brought into The raiders a year ago
broadcaster For, fox and was seen last night during The
raiders loss of The charges with headset on in the,
booth allegedly communicating with which he can.
Speaker 3 (32:04):
Do, right that's part of what it. Is he bought.
Speaker 1 (32:06):
It you Want Tom brady to tell you what you
think you should, Do, like there's a reason why he
bought into The, raiders and you want. That, hey, gino
when it's fourth, down throw the ball fifteen yards out of. Bounds,
yeah protect your, stats don't get that fourth. Interception make
a business. Decision and there's been a big uproar from
the media that, hey this can't. Happen Tom brady can't
(32:28):
be a broadcaster At fox and own The. Raiders can't do.
It look at the unfair competitive advantage that he's. Getting,
okay first of, all this is, stupid all, Right fans
don't care about this.
Speaker 3 (32:41):
Story fans don't.
Speaker 1 (32:42):
Care THE nfl clearly doesn't care about, it because they
put out a statement today, saying, Hey brady did not
violate ANY nfl rules by wearing a.
Speaker 3 (32:49):
Headset, well they.
Speaker 1 (32:50):
Tweeted it when he was sitting in the. Booths he's
now based on the furor of THE.
Speaker 2 (32:56):
X.
Speaker 3 (32:57):
Crowd they eventually deleted the post, like, hey.
Speaker 1 (33:00):
There Is THE nfl doesn't. Care fans don't. Care the
only people who care are or or media writers and
insiders who for some reason want to be bent out
of shape by. This brady and The raiders are not
getting competitive. Advantage he's not allowed to go to the,
Practices he's not allowed to go to the team facilities
for his production. Meetings he's gotta attend them via. Zoom
(33:22):
and do you really think the coaches are showing up
giving tidbits for the broadcast and they're they're telling all
the inside secrets That brady's gonna then blab to The raiders. About,
no this has been going on, forever, Right these meetings
happen all the. Time you know, WHAT i could have
Called Kevin burkhard IF i want to, Go, hey, dude
you work for The.
Speaker 3 (33:39):
Mets i'm A mets.
Speaker 1 (33:40):
Fan tell me what are they telling? You SO i
could tell The jets what's gonna happen next. Week, no
but that's not. Happened LEGITIMATELY i, did and you can
correct me If i'm. Wrong have we ever heard of
a scandal of one after one of these meetings of someone,
saying you know, what that guy that was calling the
game For fox OR cbs OR espn immediately ran to
someone in this other organization and, Said i've got the
(34:01):
blueprint of how you win this, game send me.
Speaker 4 (34:04):
Money, no we've.
Speaker 3 (34:05):
Had none of. That it's not.
Speaker 1 (34:07):
Happening there's no inherent advantage because of the production meetings
that are gone. On Troy aikman could call The cowboys
all the time and, say, hey this is What i'm,
here And i'm in the meetings With Joe buck all the.
Time it's certain members of the media either they're bored
or they Hate brady for some, reason or whatever it.
Is you could check out check a box somewhere that
(34:28):
they want to be upset by this. Story they want
to be upset by. It The raiders clearly are getting
in event they're not winning. Games you're not hearing. It
you're not hearing. Anything you're not coaches say, hey we
Told brady that in the. Meeting he shouldn't have said,
That and The raiders were ready for, it and we
played them like you would hear stuff like this if
it was the. Case this is such a non story
(34:49):
and it's only alive because certain people in the media
again are either bored or have nothing else better to.
Do ALL i want to make because It's brady And
i'm gonna get, clicks AND i want to say how
MAD i am about.
Speaker 3 (34:58):
This this is not a nobody cares.
Speaker 1 (35:01):
LIKE i appreciate the to a. Degree The, hey we
want the separation of church and. State you know, what
it's a new world. Order it's a different. Business and
whenever you can have one of your games greats or
the great depending on how you want to do your
rankings and Your Mount rushmoores or whatever else you want
them affiliated with the, game the last thing you want
(35:21):
are guys that are they go off to their other
business ventures and leave your league. Behind that doesn't help, anybody,
right except for highlight videos or. Whatever, no, no you
need them in the. Facilities but For Tom, brady there's
that extra level of. Angst whether it's because of the past,
scandals so just anticipating that there's something nefarious, here LIKE
(35:42):
i don't think because he's on A zoom. Meeting suddenly
guys are holding up a page Going.
Speaker 3 (35:46):
Donny check it. Out, yeah, yeah it's. NOT i mean
it's it's.
Speaker 1 (35:50):
So overrated THAT i want this story to just.
Speaker 3 (35:54):
Die.
Speaker 4 (35:55):
NO i won't, though BUT.
Speaker 3 (35:57):
I, mean, really but THE nfl has said we have
no problem with.
Speaker 1 (36:00):
It so what we're gonna. Do you're gonna keep barking
up that tree that keep saying we got no problem with.
Speaker 3 (36:03):
It we got no.
Speaker 1 (36:03):
Problem we got the arbiters of the game in broadcasting
that want to tell us how it has to.
Speaker 3 (36:08):
Be teams would.
Speaker 1 (36:09):
Complain about this if they thought they were getting an
advantage in the. Bots the bottom line, now speaking of teams,
complaining if you want to ban the push, PUSH i
could tell you exactly how to do.
Speaker 3 (36:19):
That that's. Next fox
