Smith Show and subscribe. Well, here we are on a
Friday night. Had our big take this week of the
College football should put one huge game on every Friday night,
making a big package like they do on Thursday night.
For the NFL. Go viral this week here at Fox,
and we're seeing some big games tonight. We're talking about
we got d.
Speaker 3 (01:21):
Yeah, I mean Ucla getting it done. Indiana lay in
the wood in state rival Syracuse scoring more points today
than I think your basketball team didn't.
Speaker 4 (01:32):
Any Mike, what exactly is Ucla getting done?
Speaker 1 (01:36):
They're playing the game, they're playing the game in Yeah,
well they're somewhat playing the game, and they are playing
a game in front of friends and family.
Speaker 4 (01:47):
Horrible happy.
Speaker 3 (01:48):
This is a soft launch. Okay, it's like a launch
friends and family.
Speaker 4 (01:54):
It's almost like it's a on the all time crappy
list of crappy football that you know better than anybody
else where. Is where this ran?
Speaker 1 (02:00):
I'll say when Harmon says I celebrate all two seventy
two of the NFL games like this would be like,
you know, game two sixty five to sixty six, somewhere
they've been two sixties. Boy. I then look, they gotta
play him.
Speaker 3 (02:15):
You gotta watch them and hopefully maybe you make a
dollar on it, or you enjoy a nice frosty beverage
in the club like you're were hanging out with ty
Shirt and prosper.
Speaker 4 (02:24):
If you're out there you don't have to watch this.
Speaker 1 (02:26):
It is just sad seeing what's happened to USC football
the last two years. Man, my goodness, fourteen to seven
New Mexico with the lead. Uh they just starting the
third quarter at the Rose bul again in front of
friends and family and on national television. So yeah, but
that defense really showed up today.
Speaker 3 (02:41):
Now they will give it up fourteen points positivity, you know, so.
Speaker 1 (02:47):
Far again, remember games only halfway over. They play four
quarters chances.
Speaker 4 (02:51):
Enjoy that broadcast.
Speaker 1 (02:55):
Now, speaking of college football, right, we got a big
slate tomorrow. We talked to Pete Futech, We talked Georgia, Tennessee.
We had some other big games we previewed. But there's
a couple of teams that were good to a couple
of different degrees last year getting set for big games
tomorrow that may be better than they were a year ago.
And that's bad news if you think they're you know,
(03:17):
you're a team that wants to make the playoff over them,
South Florida and Miami. We'll deal with that one first.
And congrats to the CW. I gotta think this is
the biggest game the CW has ever had. Huge, Right,
like I mean, they may have had a Colorado game
in September a couple of years ago, like when when
Dion owned the month of September two years ago. But
I think that South Florida Miami. This has gotta be
(03:39):
the biggest game of the season.
Speaker 4 (03:40):
No, I'm pretty sure they had a football game in
Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
Speaker 1 (03:43):
Dude, Oh did they? Oh? Okay, well it was on
the Yeah, oh okay. If they did that, that this
would be the second biggest game.
Speaker 4 (03:49):
Well there was one in the Wayne's Brothers Show too.
Speaker 1 (03:51):
Oh okay, so the third biggest game, my third biggest
game for the CW. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (03:55):
I'm looking at their schedule, like when they do those
look aheads of Hey coming up? You know, you get
summer with murder, she wrote, and all those great things.
Do you do you promote that? Hey, on Sunday night,
you could sit down and alternate viewing to the Sunday
night football game. Is the notebook from two thousand and four.
On Monday night, Hey, you don't want to watch any
(04:15):
of the the two NFL games, you got Penn and
Teller fool Us, followed by Masters of Illusion.
Speaker 4 (04:23):
Here's the Dawson's Creek Cast.
Speaker 1 (04:25):
Okay, nice, it's the Dawson's Creek Reunion coming your way.
Uh there, you know, I actually did what One of
my favorite shows of all time was on the CW.
Of course, there was a show on in the early
two thousands and it was just ahead of its time,
but it was hysterical. It was called gross Point, right
(04:47):
p O Y N T E. And it's Michigan no no, no, no, no,
no no different with John Cusack. This was called gross Point.
And what it was was it was a comedy that
it was about the actors who were on a nine
oh two one Oho type show, and it was about
(05:07):
the actors who were acting in this show. And it
was all like a lampooning of Hollywood and and shows
on TV. And they were they were the same type,
the same type of actors. There was a you know,
twin boy and girl who were the star, and there
was the bad boy boyfriend like like with Luke Perry,
who was played by somebody, and there was the the
the goodie two shoes one and then the one that
(05:28):
kind of got around and all this and it was
but it was about the actors and it was really
really funny and it was just ahead of its time
because it was back when those kind of shows with
critics they did well, but but overall viewers it was
like yeah, and also was on the CW. But I'm
telling you, man, I think it ran for like a
season or two and it was absolutely hysterical. It was
(05:49):
one of my favorite shows. Like I wish that got
an audience, or that they would run it somewhere so
I could go back and watch the show again because
it was really really funny. Oh trying to find it
so grosser I watch it. They even had one of
the actors from the show to make money dress up
as the CW Frog and he got so loopy on
the beach he was like passing out. They were showing
(06:11):
him on TV going, hey, look, you know they're going
to break with a billboard and like here's the frog
and he's running. It's running into the ocean just to
cool off. But hey Mark Mark mothersbaw wrote the music. Okay, yeah,
I'm telling you.
Speaker 3 (06:25):
The opening theme was Tom Jones and mouse t with
sex Bomb the Uppermint disco mix.
Speaker 1 (06:31):
I hope I wish it was. I don't know if
it's on somewhere. I definitely rewatched it was really really funny.
It did have Bonnie Somerville on there, so that's a one.
Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, she came on. She's been kind
of a start. Then she went to NYPD Blue. After that,
I think she did that to NYPD Blue. Now look tomorrow,
South Florida Miami. Everybody's having visions of Matt Grothie from
the mid two thousands and that South Florida team that hey,
(06:51):
wait a minute, they could wind up getting into the playoff.
But here's the thing, Miami might be better than they
were last year. Right, and this is weird to say
coming off year they had the number one overall picking
the draft in cam Ward. But last year Miami sort
of survived. Right, how many games do we watch them play,
going oh, they're going down, but cam Ward would save
them with three touchdown drives in four minutes in the
(07:12):
third quarter and suddenly Miami wins. They still lost three
games and they got boat raced by Syracuse in the
final game of the year, and they missed the playoff.
But Carson Beck is exactly what this team needs right there.
They wanted, you know, going out and getting him so
they can use twenty twenty five as a jumping off
point from twenty twenty four. Hey, we narrowly missed the playoffs.
(07:34):
They go out and get Carson Beck, who you can't say, well,
we're gonna turn this over, turn this thing over to
a younger quarterback. Here's a guy transferring out now. So far,
he's been what they needed. He'll be what they need
in big games. He's played in big games before. He
was really good against Notre Dame. Didn't really need him
last week in a big blowout. But this is exactly
what they need a quarterback, someone coming in with this
(07:55):
kind of leadership. Final year in college football, fifth overall
in back rating. So far through the first two weeks,
Miami might be better than they were last year. They
beat South Florida and their Cinderella run and suddenly it's well,
wait a minute, Miami is gonna wind up being a
top four team at the end of the season. Yeah.
I think the biggest thing for Miami is we don't
know what their defense is yet. Right.
Speaker 3 (08:14):
They win the narrow twenty seven to twenty four victory
Week one against Notre Dame, and then, as you mentioned
Bethune Cookman, Okay, you gave up three, but that gives
us no information on how to judge and whether you're
gonna need to have such a prolific offense like you
did a year ago. You had great balance with two
running backs totally almost seventeen hundred yards and nineteen touchdowns
(08:38):
between them. Martinez is gone. Now Fletcher's the lead, and
you're looking for Charmars Brown behind him to be that
guy just behind Fletcher in the carry count and both
with two touchdowns, but Fletcher nearly averaging two yards per
carry more thus far. But it'll it'll be curious to
watch this one to see, you know, and as this
(09:00):
and develops, you know, how much do they need the
Carson Beck Express to just keep piling on points for
wins last year five hundred and seventy one points Man
nearly forty four a game, just absurd, But they needed
every one of them in big games. So I think
that's the curiosity. But certainly a fun test and a
(09:22):
good early season matchup tomorrow on this late.
Speaker 1 (09:25):
Now the game I'm most interested to see, right, I'm
most interested to see this game because you know, we
talk about Florida State being back and how good that
is for college football. USC might be back Man you know,
it's their first kind of test. Tomorrow they play Perdue.
So far, they've done everything you want from them, right, Well, it's.
Speaker 3 (09:45):
It's a road game, but it's their I feel like
three touchdown favorite tonight game first time.
Speaker 1 (09:51):
Well, because they lead the all college football and scoring.
Speaker 3 (09:54):
I mean, it's it's kind of a thing. Look State
and Georgia Southern. Yeah, but I mean you played the games,
but what can you expect to I mean, look, they're
they're there if they win this game. Because here's Purdue,
who's kind of a mid mid team in the Big Ten. Uh,
suddenly you're three and oh scoring a lot of points
and produced to and oh that you know, they won
a couple of games so far.
Speaker 1 (10:15):
But USC has done everything they wanted. Jade Maive has
been really good. That's been the best country, best team
in the country, so best offense in the country so far,
and maybe a little bit of it is Hey, USC
is out of the spotlight, right because when Lincoln Riley
showed up, all they did was wilt. Right, they wilted
their first season at the end when when you thought
they were going to the playoff. Caleb Williams senior year
(10:37):
was just absolutely craptastic, and you're thinking about what's the buyout?
Oh wait, ninety five million still gonna be another couple
of years. They can think about that. But here they
are coming in and it's okay, well, USC, we're not
really talking about them. The Big ten is it's a
much bigger test. We're talking about the other big heavyweights
in Ohio State and Penn State and Michigan and Bryce Underwood.
But USC wins this game against Purdue, and suddenly, okay,
(10:59):
here's your here's your first big power five win. They
score a lot of points. Maybe USC might be back
and this might be the entire offseason they needed end.
Maybe they got a quarterback that's more conducive to what
they want to do. Because I have has been really
good man, I mean he, I mean what what they have?
Eleven different guys score a touchdown last week? I mean,
I know it's smaller competition, but US season everything you
(11:22):
expect so far. I really want to see this and
see if us he can come out and have another
big win, score another ton of points and go beat
Perdue and suddenly will wait a minute, now they're three
to zero and they just beat Perdue. You know, forty
eight to fourteen. Suddenly maybe us might be back. You
can't wait to see this.
Speaker 3 (11:38):
Game at forty eight to fourteen. That gets you to
the over, which is a robust fifty nine for this one.
USC favored on the road by twenty and a half,
and I was only a half point off in my
estimation on that one. We'll get with with Todd Furman
in a couple minutes out of Vegas talk about it more.
But it's good to see them rolling up points right.
Whether it's the Lincoln Ryley, leave me alone. My offense
(12:02):
is just fine. So we're just gonna bludgeon teams when
we have the opportunity to do so, so be it here.
The Boilers have a couple of w's thus far. It's
ball state in Southern Illinois putting up a total of
sixty five points of their own in there. Brown having
some great success. And you've already got one hundred yard rusher,
(12:23):
one hundred yard receiver, so a little bit of balance.
This is a game you can go to if you
want to, for as low as twenty bucks.
Speaker 1 (12:29):
Nice I like it. You want to go.
Speaker 3 (12:31):
See the engineers get after it and hear that train whistleblow.
Speaker 1 (12:36):
You can do that, no question about it.
Speaker 3 (12:38):
That's one of the early window games because I know
a lot of people were complaining about that here locally
in the LA market, talking on television, et cetera, going,
I don't.
Speaker 1 (12:48):
Know, that's kind of unfair to have to go like no, no, no,
you'll be okay.
Speaker 3 (12:53):
Game day, you'll go and play and you'll throttle them
and you'll move on. It'd be nice to see them
bring together a couple of victories to add another team
to the mix, right when you talk about the Big
ten slash eighteen, to have another team that maybe can
cause some problems come November. So yeah, I'm hoping for that,
(13:15):
No disrespect to the alma mater of Drew Brees.
Speaker 1 (13:19):
Yeah, I mean look for a year to be able
to say and just how think how great this would
be for college football if you can say, in the
same year, Florida State, Miami and USC are quote back right, like,
obviously Miami was good last year, but they missed outside
the playoffs, they'd be as good as you thought, Like
how great would it be? You know? To throw in
(13:40):
now the latter day drama with Ohio State, Michigan, Texas Georgia,
like all the new teams became power in the last
five years to say, hey, you throw these teams now
of the mixed teams that really dominated in the early
two thousands and in the teams like you're talking about
one of the big years of college football with all
sorts of fun, big games all the way through. These
three teams are back. Man, college football just gonna be
(14:02):
printing money the rest of the season. Well, that's it.
Speaker 3 (14:05):
And then when they take over Friday night, as we
surmised and theorized that they should, it's all good. And
then when they take over Wednesday afternoons to take it
away from field hockey. Sure, the off you know, water
polo thing back in the indoors.
Speaker 1 (14:22):
We're good. Exit out about a Fresca exit swollen down

How want you tonight?
Speaker 2 (18:23):
I'm doing all gentlemen. Hopefully you guys are holding up
in Maybe more importantly, there aren't a ton of UCLA
fans that are listening in late tonight because there's thirteen
of them in attendance to Pasadena for this game against
New Mexico.
Speaker 1 (18:34):
I like your tweet from a couple of minutes ago,
win or lose, UCLA will never schedule a Mountain West
opponent again. Are you give it to right about that? Tom?
Speaker 2 (18:42):
I mean it ain't gonna help recruiting if you're gonna
lose on the road to UNLV and you're gonna follow
it up and loses more than a two touchdown favorite
home against New Mexico. But early returns on the Nico
investment or the de facto trade straight up for Joey Aguilar.
Not good, gentlemen, not good at all.
Speaker 1 (18:58):
So Todd, looking at to night, we'll go. We'll get
into tomorrow in a second. Here here's Colorado and Deon Sanders.
They fall, they get thumped by Houston. I look at
what's going on, and I see Deon Sanders with three
quarterbacks playing tons of tons of minutes so far the
first three games. I'd just go, man, I don't know
that betting against Colorado every week this year isn't the
(19:19):
right thing to go. Like betting on them last year
was good, Chador was pretty good. But wow, man, do
they have problems right now?
Speaker 2 (19:25):
There was a lot of money that came in against
Colorado from their regular season win total perspective. We thought
that there was going to be some uncertainty around the
quarterback position, but I don't think anybody imagined in their
wildest dreams that Shador handing the baton would be to
three potential players. We knew that Juju Lewis had lost
a little bit of his luster and recruiting when he
decommitted from USC elected to go to Colorado. Then we
(19:47):
got the full experience of the Cadence Salter display the
transfer from Liberty and tonight you get a third stringer,
a great storyline, but at the same time, look, you're
a backup to Shador and a third Stringer for a
reason a little bit limited physically, But tonight it was
more about the injuries for Colorado's defense. They just had
no answers to get off the field the key junctures
against Connor Wegman and company.
Speaker 3 (20:07):
Todd, We'll look at some of the big games on Saturday.
Some of them are walkovers, you know, the twenty or
twenty five point spreads where we got to find some
noise there. But Florida LSU seven point line, forty seven
and a half. Lagway trying to go to the on
the road at the number three team in the land.
Can he find a way to get it done. I mean,
(20:28):
you're going to.
Speaker 2 (20:28):
Get a desker Florida team, no doubt after what we
saw last weekend when you lose outright to an in
state program as a seventeen and a half eighteen point favorite.
But I think this Florida team has a lot of
questions that have to be answered. And you mentioned DJ Lagway.
He is, no doubt the headliner. But you dig into
some of his numbers against FBS opponents and well, it's
a short sample size. It's not exactly a ringing endorsement
for what was supposed to be an electric talent. I'm
(20:51):
not as optimistic that he's one hundred percent despite some
of the reports coming out of Gainesville, and when you
look at the task they have in front of him,
I mean, this is an LSU team that has a
big win on their resume already against Clemson, but does
have some red flags in their own right and questions
to be answered, most notably can they run the football.
I mean their top running back Cayden Durham last week
against Louisiana Tech thirteen carries sub thirty yards. So for me,
(21:14):
both these teams a lot to prove. Florida season kind
of hanging in the balance, and we'll see if LSU
can maintain their metal as a potential top five team
and a legitimate national championship contender.
Speaker 1 (21:24):
All Right, Todd, If I said to you tomorrow, Hey,
what's your best value bet? What do you like the
most on the board tomorrow? What would you give me?
What's the sample? You know what?
Speaker 2 (21:32):
It's a number that's moved a little bit. But I
still think there is some opportunity, and I think Miami
makes a statement against USF. But the angle that I
would tell people to look to try and take at
this point with the full game number north to seventeen
to look at the Hurricanes in the first half, he
should be able to find them widely available in that
minus nine, nine and a half ten range. USF has
actually gotten off the slow starts, despite pulling off upsets
(21:53):
against Boise State and Florida to start the season. But
this is a different animal. I mean, Miami has NFL
caliber talent along that defensive line and in their offensive
line room. Carson Beck's starting to get more comfortable leading
this offense for the Hurricanes, and I just wonder what
USF has left in the tank. After two very physical
and emotional football games. I think the Canes get off
(22:14):
to a quick start. They can name the score and
may put up a crooked number similar to what they
did last year.
Speaker 3 (22:19):
Fox Sports Radio Jason Spitz Show with Mike Carman. Todd
Furman's our guest live from Las Vegas for everything He's
got popping at Todd Furman where you find him in
the Twitter verse. I always kind enough to join us,
give us some insights as to where money is moving,
and some leans as he goes through the numbers. So Todd,
let me ask you after last night how much money
(22:40):
came flying in on the Green Bay Packers.
Speaker 2 (22:43):
I mean, look, we may as well plan the Super
Bowl parade up there Atlanta, right.
Speaker 1 (22:47):
On Lovardi Drive, given all the.
Speaker 2 (22:48):
Buzz and look, I can understand the optimism. I mean,
given how well the defense has played against two teams
that won twelve plus games a season ago. They clamped down,
They've prevented the explosives and loves look significantly healthier. Leading
this Packers offense that has a multitude of weapons, so
it's kind of picking your poison as an opposing defensive coordinator.
The emergence at Tucker Craft really gives them a chess piece.
(23:10):
They can move all around the board, But six and
a half to one or seven to one as low
as I've seen them at some books, not nearly enough
meat on the bone to try and tie up money
this far in advance, knowing that the Packers are still
going to have their challenges and when it comes to
getting through the NFC, whether it's the Philadelphia Eagles or
somebody else to emerge. Good team, but a lot to
prove still for the Lambeau Warriors.
Speaker 1 (23:32):
Now, speaking of the Eagles game of the Week on Sunday,
Philadelphia and Kansas City. Kansas City is likely going to
be without Xavier Worthy already, no Nut Rushie Rice, no
Dallas Goddard for the Eagles.
Speaker 2 (23:43):
What do you like in this one interesting game? I
think it moves a little bit of luster for all
the reasons you just outlined their smith about some of
the key contributors, especially offensively for the Kansas City Chiefs
that won't be out there suddenly, Patrick Mahomes has to
look a little bit further down the roster and lean
on players like Ju Smith, Schuster, Tykwon Thordon, and Hollywood Brown.
This would have been great if this was five seven
(24:05):
years ago with a couple of those receivers. A little
bit more problematic now. But Philadelphia at the same time,
for me at least left a lot to be desired. Offensively,
they were weren't exactly dynamic in their season opener against
the Dallas Cowboys, and from a defensive standpoint, I think
Philadelphia still has some things that they have to work
out in the second and third level. So if I'm
(24:26):
getting involved in the game, I'm looking at Kansas City
as a short home underdog and making a slight case
to go under the total but no reason to panic
either way. Even if the Chiefs were to start the
season zero to two, still plenty of opportunity for them
to get themselves right back in the thick of things
in the AFC.
Speaker 3 (24:41):
Let's go back to the NFC North with a battle
in Detroit. Two teams stinging off of week one losses.
Hasn't cut through that key number just yet, but Lions
six and a half point favorites. A lot of jaw
jacking going on here between Saint Brown and Ben Johnson,
a lot of saltiness.
Speaker 1 (24:58):
How does it come out? Yeah?
Speaker 2 (24:59):
You under Sometimes if Ben Johnson has the edge over
a team that he saw every day in practice and
knows that offensive personnel inside and out, or if it's
Detroit Lions scheming for their former offensive coordinator, knowing his
tendencies and what they can kind of expect in this
spot looks the Bears an unenviable spot off a physical
divisional game, turning around, traveling on a short week take
(25:20):
on a team that they know is going to hit
them in the mouth. The one concern I have for
the Bears if they're unable to run the football, and
I don't really see a path of doing so against
that Detroit defensive front, can Caleb make enough plays in
the passing game? I think you're going to get Detroit
to be a little bit more dynamic offensively. But there's
no doubt it was a massive downgrade when you lose
an offensive coordinator that's this talented in terms of scheming
(25:40):
up game plans as Ben Johnson. Six and a half
kind of no man's land all but no surprise at all, gentlemen.
We've seen some under money come in from that total
of forty seven where it opened now down in the
forty six and a half range.
Speaker 1 (25:51):
So are you throwing all your money on the Jets
on Sunday? I mean, after that incredible offensive.
Speaker 2 (25:56):
Looks, I'm not going to sugarcoat it, but I do
have a bet on the Jets as a seven point
against the Bills. I know that numbers down to six.
I think we saw enough from the Jets in terms
of an offensive identity that leaves me a little bit
more optimistic that they at least know who they are
as a football team. And while they can't do a
lot of the same things that Ravens can at a
high level, it's a poor man's version and without at
(26:18):
Oliver along that defensive line, and some safeties that leave
a little bit to be desired from a physicality and
foot speed standpoint. If this Jets defense has any pride,
I think that's the side of the ball where they'll
be better. I think justin Fields can make a few
plays and the Jets will have every opportunity to pull
off a big upset in the division.
Speaker 3 (26:33):
Now, let's explore that a little bit more. I know
ed Oliver got ruled out, but he's not worth a point.
What kind of volume do we look at to move
a point spread a full point?
Speaker 2 (26:42):
Todd, No, he's not worth a point. But I think
there are plenty of concerns around this Buffalo team in general,
and that number in the wake of their improbable victory
against the Ravens open seven to seven and a half.
The seven and a halfs were cleared out almost immediately,
and you started to see a little bit more support
for the Jets. I mean, I know, on the score Bore,
the Jets lose their opener thirty four to thirty two
against the Steelers, but you dig into some of the metrics,
(27:04):
the advanced box score, and it suggests that suggests that
the Jets were unlucky losers in that particular game, So
a little bit of value here, the high level of familiarity,
a short week of sorts for Buffalo having played late
into the night on Sunday, with everything that they expended
from an emotional standpoint, and you can see why the
Jets an attractive proposition as arguably a defensive dog in
(27:27):
this spot of the team that's going to be able
to run the football, shorten the game and maximize their possessions.
Speaker 1 (27:32):
All right, now, Todd, Now last once for me, I
want to ask you, what kind of odds do you
give me.
Speaker 4 (27:36):
If the Mets don't win another God?
Speaker 1 (27:38):
Can I just say it? Frostburg, I don't just count
the fans at UCLA, right, count the twelve fans, that's
the answer.
Speaker 2 (27:48):
I mean, look, I didn't even know the Mets are
still playing baseball honestly, and say, I'm pretty sure Mets
fans don't think what they've been doing of late is
anything close to playing baseball. So maybe there's a good
chance if they decided just take the rest of the
season off. But kudos to the Mets. They invented ways
to lose against the Philadelphia Phillies getting swept. Followed it
up with a terrific performance tonight against the Texas Rangers.
(28:11):
But when you can lose game one of the series
one nothing and then give up twenty runs it combined
over the next two games, the Mets are finding ways
to raise the bar. And if there's one franchise that's
known for a late season collapse, it is the New
York Metropolitans.
Speaker 1 (28:25):

Speaker 2 (28:43):
Always a pleasure. And it's a crying Shane that Harm
wasn't invited for big new kickoff to go to return
to his old stomping grounds there on the shores of
Lake Michigan.
Speaker 1 (28:50):
They couldn't be sure that he was going to wear pants,
so that's why they say listen, we purple shorts, pressed man,
come on.
Speaker 2 (28:58):
It is a fair concern, but Harm a public liability
and a career limiting move potentially on the rise. And
if he's traveling with that crew.
Speaker 1 (29:06):
Think it easy, Boddy. We'll talk to you next week.
There it is no check out all the odds again,
Todd on Twitter at Todd Furman, that is at Todd Furman.
We got more coming up in ninety seconds. But first
we're gonna find out what's trending in the wide world
of sports. And I gotta tell you, you know again, I
say this at least once every couple of weeks. Jason
Stark once told me they've been playing baseball for one
(29:28):
hundred and fifty years, and you still say regularly, I've
never seen that before. Last night we saw the oddity
of a team not getting a hit after the first
inning of a game. Right. The Mets scored four runs
in the first inning last night against the Phillies, didn't
get a hit the rest of the way. Profession When
you're gonna see that again, well we almost saw it tonight.
(29:50):
The Giants and the Dodgers tied one one of the
ninth inning. Giants get a run in the bottom of
the first inning on a double. Andy pah Has misplays
the ball into a run. There happens Jason No Never,
but that was the only hit for the Giants up
(30:10):
until just a second ago. They got a single to
put runners at the corners with one out in the
ninth inning. We almost saw two nights in a row
a team get a hit in the first inning and
not get a hit in innings.
Speaker 4 (30:21):
Two, and they're still better than the Mets.
Speaker 1 (30:23):
Well, of course they are there.
Speaker 6 (30:24):
There you go.
Speaker 8 (30:25):
So the Giants have a chance to win it right here.
The Dodgers are bringing in reliever Blake Trient, and Dodgers
tied one one at San Francisco.
Speaker 1 (30:32):
We'll be fine. It's not a no hitter that he's
got to come in and protect, so they'll be fine.
It's a two hitter.
Speaker 8 (30:37):
I think we've all seen this bullpen in the last week.
Let's just leave it at that bottom in the ninth
tie game, first and third, one out for the Giants.
Coming into tonight, Giants and Reds each a game and
a half out of the last NL wildcard behind the Mets,
who then lost again. The Reds swell, that's now a final.
They got shut out at the A's three nothing athletics
(30:58):
with three solo homer. The Mets loss was their seventh
in a row. Texas beat him eight three in New York.
Texas has won five in a row. The Mariners are
up two to one on the Angels in the bottom
of the eighth inning. Houston was already a winner at
Atlanta eleven to three. That was eleven to nothing in
the six Houston and Seattle tied for first in the
Al West to start the day. Texas only two back
(31:21):
Milwaukee and the Cubs each one. Colorado ended a six
game losing streak, winning at San Diego four to two.
Minnesota with three on the bottom of the ninth edged
Arizona nine to eight. Cody Clemens of the Twins with
three homers, he was batting two oh six. Cleveland shut
out the White Sox for nothing. The winner ten or
bybe a complete game, two hitters, ten strikeouts, no walks.
(31:42):
He threw one hundred and three pitches. Miami over Detroit,
beating Trek Scooble eight to two. Scooble allowed the first
four runs. Was out in the fourth inning with left
side tightness. Yankees in Toronto each one. The first place
Blue Jays were six to one winners against Baltimore. Yankees
won four to one. At Boston, Luis Hill six hitless
innings for walks four strikeouts. He was out after ninety
(32:04):
three pitches. A reliever allowed a homer in the seventh
Aaron Judge with his forty seventh home run. Not only
did the Mets lose, the Phillies won again. They're fifth
in a row, eight to two over Kansas City. Winning
pitcher Walker Buehler went five innings, the Phil's magic number
to clinch the division already down to three. Washington sent
Pittsburgh to a seventh straight loss, six to five. And
(32:24):
we have NFL news as the forty nine Ers officially
say quarterback Brock Party is out with the toe injury.
Mac Jones will start with for San Francisco at New Orleans.
The Bears are signing former Niners kicker Jake Moody to
their practice squad. Chiefs wide receiver Xavier Worthy is doubtful
with the dislocated shoulder. He was limited in practice Thursday
and Friday. Eagles tight end Dallas Goddard is out this
(32:47):
weekend with a spring knee. Philadelphia is at CAC this
Sunday on Fox TV. Raiders tight end Brock Bowers with
a bad knee mispractice again. Las Vegas will be hosting
the Chargers late Monday night.
Speaker 1 (32:59):
Update.
Speaker 8 (32:59):
Blake trying and on in relief for the Dodgers. He
got to pop out to short right, Giants tried to
tag up from third, and we're thrown out at the plate.
Double header ends the ninth, they go to the tenth
even what ninth.
Speaker 1 (33:11):
Double double play? You said double header? We got to
be playing another game after this.
Speaker 8 (33:14):
We might be playing nine more the way these two offens.
Speaker 1 (33:16):
And said, I'll take the double header.
Speaker 5 (33:19):
That like it.
Speaker 1 (33:20):
Fairness, it's gonna keep going.
Speaker 8 (33:22):
Andy Pott has who did throw him out? We two
the ninth inning at Seattle, by the way, Mariners to
to one over the Angels. And yes, we had college
football tonight at Syracuse. The Ques sixty six colgates twenty four,
Houston's three and zero after beating Colorado thirty six to twenty,
Indiana seventy three nothing over Indiana State. They've ended the
(33:44):
third quarter at the Rose Bowl, New Mexico leads UCLA
fourteen to ten, and final two minutes on Fox TV
Arizona holding on twenty three seventeen over Kansas State.
Speaker 1 (33:55):
Back to you Thank you, Steve O. Andy Paw has
giveth and Andy pa has taketh away. He is keeping
both teams in the game tonight. That's what's happening Dodgers
and Giants.
Speaker 4 (34:05):
Hey, why don't you go watch the first inning of
the Mets game?
Speaker 1 (34:08):
Why do I need to see that? I know how
it ended. I watched it. I watched it once, Go
watch again. I'm watching Angelly throw touchdowns and I'm watching
Jonah Toong throw bass a. I mean, you go wear
that like it was coming up next. A heady statement
that's gonna sound so insane, but it's gonna be true

Speaker 2 (35:28):

Speaker 1 (35:31):
Fox Sports Radio The Jason Smith Show with my best
friend Mike Harmon. Dodgers Giants tied one apiece, top of
the tenth. Dodgers have a runner at third, one out
at wildcard rates, getting really close now the National League
Ghost Runners. We'll have more football coming up in a
few minutes. But just because this tonight was such a
(35:54):
big deal and hopefully you got a chance to see
it or if not, awesome Aaron Judge. Tonight a big
home run in the Yankees four to one win over
the Red Sox. And when I say big home run,
I mean he hit this ball out of Fenway Park,
not over the Green Monster, No over the Green Monster,
(36:16):
over the stands and left field and out onto the street.
Was a four hundred and seventy five foot home run
part of the Yankees four to one win over the
Red Sox. You're either gonna hear that right now or
Jacob de Gram striking out Brett Batty. That's a high
(36:40):
special moment. The next one, yeah, here, the next one? Sure?
Speaker 4 (36:46):
No, I'm saying, do you want to pick the next one?
Speaker 1 (36:49):
Pressures Smith? I don't know.
Speaker 4 (36:53):
I'm not worry about that.
Speaker 1 (36:55):
I want to I want to freeze. I want to
freeze right now? What was that? Cards? No whammy? I
want I want to stop. I want to stop. You
could come keep spinning for big money. No, I want
to stop, but to take the eight hundred dollars. I'm
not gonna go bankrupt. You're gonna take that money? Was
udge or This is either Aaron Judge or Jacob de
Gram's first strikeout as a member of the Rangers, and
(37:19):
Judge to left center field.
Speaker 6 (37:21):
This one headed away back beyond the monster.
Speaker 1 (37:24):
Has Aaron Judge kind of honks. The Yankees told nothing
League Wow, Apple TV on the call, we got it,
Aaron Judge coming it was. I didn't see asking for
the highlight and I thought we were just gonna get
club dub again for Justin and Alex.
Speaker 4 (37:42):
We actually roll on real baseball.
Speaker 1 (37:45):
Home run number forty seven on the year for Aaron Judge.
But not only that big home run. This also breaks
the tie that he held for fourth place in Yankee
history for most home runs. He is now passed Joe
DiMaggio three hundred and sixty two home runs for Judge,
who is thirty three years old. Now, this is such
(38:07):
a heady thing to say, but it's it's it's it's
not even gonna be a hot take of all the
teams in baseball, and you think back to all the
lush histories they have the Dodgers and all the history
the Giants. Nobody has more history and more drama and
more or more bright lights than the Yankees. Right, nobody
(38:27):
has more big stars throughout the entirety of the game.
And I'm going back to the early nineteen hundreds. When
Aaron Judge finishes his career, right thirty three, and at
thirty three, he's still just as good as he was
seven years ago. When he finishes his career, we're gonna
say he's one of the top five Yankees of all time.
(38:48):
And it's not even gonna be a debate. It's gonna
be who gets knocked off the list. Does Demaggio get
knocked off the list. Dare you does Mickey Mannle get
knocked off the list? Right? Does Luke Gary get knocked
off the list? Like? Who gets knocked off a list?
For Aaron Judge because he's gonna hit one hundred and
fifty more home runs at least than Joe Demado. Now,
Joe d did lose three years in his career for
(39:08):
military service, and I get that, but I can't penalize
Judge for what he's doing. I mean more home runs
and everybody the career he's having, He's gonna have a
career war of well over one hundred. I mean, it's
gonna be like Ruth and Judge and Jeter. Obviously we
have the recency with Jeter, but winning the four World
Series three thousand hits, what he did on the clutch play,
(39:30):
he displayed both hitting and fielding like you could tell
how special a Yankee he was. But this is the
most storied franchise of all time. And at the end,
we're gonna say Aaron Judge one of the five best
players to ever put on that Yankee uniform. And I
don't think it's gonna be that much of a hot take.
And we're gonna say Yeah, he's ahead of these guys.
He's ahead of Yogi Berra, he's ahead of the He's
ahead all these guys and Joe Dee and it really
(39:50):
it's it's gonna be that that big of an accomplishment
by the time Judge is done. Yeah, as long as
his big body doesn't break down. Oh yeah, my dad's
gonna gonna come and kill you for saying that. I
don't mean key your car. He's gonna kill you. I
can't believe you just saw that. But I mean, we're
extrapolating into the future. Mike Trout was a guy that
(40:10):
was gonna hit nine thousand home runs. Now he's struggling
to get to number four hundred. I mean, life does
that best? You said, that's my dad's favorite Yankee. He's
gonna show up him. My dad is like three feet tall,
and my dad's like six'. Four he's gonna just he's
gonna fold you up like a switch blade and throw
you in the. Water i'll scissor kick him in the
(40:30):
back of the. Head you say that About Aaron, judge
of he does he GETS i give up.
Speaker 3 (40:34):
Her, look we're talking about the, future, Right it's a
lot of assumptions that he's gonna continue to play at this,
level that he's going to not break down after making
another era in a big.
Speaker 1 (40:45):
GAME i, mean there's a lot that could go. On,
now my dad's gonna kill you, twice that's.
Speaker 3 (40:49):
It, well you, know bring it two ninety, two fifty
two and one. Seventeen that's his one hundred and sixty
two game average for his. Career add twenty nine doubles
per season and a triple and you've got some extra.
Chaos the home run tonight was his nineteenth and the first.
Inning so just the quick, reminder get your asses in
(41:09):
your seats When Aaron judge and The yankees are in
town to. PLAY i would assume you paid enough for
the tickets that that is an. Imperative, Anyway, Look Joe
demaggio has all the extras that are not Just yankee.
Related it was all the auxiliary stuff that he got
off at The Mister coffee. Promotion tell me you didn't
have a Mister coffee maker in your?
Speaker 1 (41:29):
House?
Speaker 3 (41:30):
Yeah, Yeah Marilyn, Monroe, YEAH i, mean come, on the,
guys the guy's still winning all these.
Speaker 1 (41:36):
Year, well, well, YEAH i know he did, Well, Yes Marilyn. Monroe,
yeah and, yes mister coffee in the nineteen. Seventy, sure.
Y'all i'll give you. That but and some other stories
that go along with.
Speaker 3 (41:45):
Him, yeah, no not The, hey don't ask me for an,
autograph some of the other you, know you, Know, JOE.
Speaker 1 (41:52):
I, Said, yankee this was A yankee, career AND i
got part of the career THOUGH i kept it to
numbers and war and it's, whatever, gimme ruth Me Toriano.
Rivera so you're telling Me jeter's the greatest athlete in
the history of, sports then that's what you're telling. Me,
hey with that
