Speaker 3 (00:59):
Rip the off.

Speaker 1 (01:01):
I'll tell you we're gonna at some point see a
better game in the Baseball Playoffs than Detroit and Seattle,
but I don't know when that's gonna be. Because this
has been an absolute gem of a game. The Mariners
get out of a huge situation first and second, nobody
out in the top of the eleventh inning, thanks to
a sacrifice bunt, which we'll get to. However, right now,

(01:25):
the Mariners, there's a timeout on the field. Okay, let
me tell you what happened. So Montero gives up a
leadoff walk to Roebliss. Then he tries to pick him
off first base, makes a horrible throw that goes to
that gets away from Torcosen at first base and he
gets down to second. So runner at second nobody out.

(01:49):
Now it's the It's the Tigers in a jackpot. Mike Harmon,
that's it. Uh so uh, this is a this is
a thing, and I'm sorry. So I'm sorry. Revs walk Reavas,
who tied the game first at bat of this of
the series with a single earlier in this game, he walks.
They try to pick him off first base and the

(02:10):
throw goes awry. Roblist tries to bunt and the ball
hits his bat and then his hand. Seeing the replay
of it right now, the play as it unfolded was
robless bunch. The ball hits his bat, then hits his hand.
He pulls his hand back in pain. He leaves the
batter's box. He is tagged out. Uh, but they're looking

(02:31):
at the replay of this right now to see and
it definitely hits the bat first and then hits his hand.
It hits the bat and then hits the It looks
like it hits the palm of his hand and they're
checking that right now. So right now the situation is
nobody out runner at second base as they're under a
replay review here, but you know, the Mariners looking to

(02:53):
try to bunt and try to get the runner over
to third base. And as a result, as we see
the replay, yes, it has ruled that it hits his hand,
so he goes to first base. So now instead of
potentially one out runner at second or one out runner
at third, it's first and second, nobody out. The Mariners
now with a chance to win this game. Again the

(03:15):
replay review, they've decided the call on the field is
going to be Roblesz going to first base, right, So
that's what they've decided. Wow, it's unfolding as we're talking
right now. So yeah, he tell you how it's going.
This is what this is what they ruled the ruling
was they sent Roblets down to first base in a
lot of pain right now, looking at his hand, and
the umpires are looking at this replay to see where

(03:36):
apper right now. The ruling was he's hit. He goes
to first base, first and second nobody out.

Speaker 3 (03:40):
Yeah, because of poor execution.

Speaker 4 (03:42):
That's a guy that had no desire or want to
or willingness or ability to bunt, and they get it
all around. I think I covered the gamut there because
the way he's holding his hand like he doesn't move
the bad enough and his finger is out there, and
I think that's ultimately what happens, right is, Yeah, is
it gets the finger in?

Speaker 1 (04:02):
Well, no, it looks like it looks like it hits
him on the palm though. It looks like like he's
got his finger out, and you think, oh man, that's
gonna hit his finger. That's a broken finger. But it
looks like it hits the bat and then the flex
into his palm.

Speaker 5 (04:12):
Right.

Speaker 4 (04:13):
No, But but but it hits the finger first and
then and then into the palm, and he's clearly in
a lot pain.

Speaker 3 (04:19):
Uh, he was felled.

Speaker 4 (04:20):
For his I mean, it's really a bad bunting effort
and not not to say hey that you got what
you got, but like he the excellence of execution was
not on display in that play.

Speaker 1 (04:31):
No, and look and and uh and and and it
looks like the call is going to stand and he's
going it's gonna be first and second. Uh, nobody out again.
They keep showing the replay and it hits the bat
and then hits the hand. I mean, you know, you
see it enough times looks like did it hit the
bat in the hand simultaneously? But it sure looked like
it hit the bat and then hit his hand. But boy,

(04:53):
that that's that's really tough to see.

Speaker 3 (04:55):
That, right.

Speaker 4 (04:55):
Did he still have his finger wrapped over the top
of the bat so it hit that in to the bat?

Speaker 3 (05:00):
I mean, I don't know.

Speaker 1 (05:02):
That's tough. Man, that that's really tough.

Speaker 4 (05:04):
We didn't get a frame by frame and I don't
have time to break it down. Maybe maybe the wizardry
of Shay and Tyshirt back there.

Speaker 3 (05:12):
They can conjure something up.

Speaker 1 (05:14):
Look at you, wizard.

Speaker 4 (05:15):
Look, well, we have no idea what's coming from Ty
Shirt segment later, So I mean trying to make sure
we allude to and and give a little bit of
color to any option that might be available to him.

Speaker 1 (05:29):
Yeah, thank you. So, uh now all of a sudden,
I mean really, I mean I'm seeing this replay a
lot and the ball really it really does look like
it's bang bang bat and then and then the hand
right like the more because I said, okay, it looks
it could be simultaneous, because it looks like it might
hit his hit his uh, hit the fingers. It might
like hit the not not the top finger which is

(05:51):
out extended, but it looks like it might hit the
hand the same time. But wow, it sure does look
like it hits the It hits the bat a millisecond
before it hits his hand.

Speaker 3 (06:01):
But we got rewarded for a bad execution.

Speaker 1 (06:04):
That's tough. That's tough, right, I.

Speaker 4 (06:06):
Mean he Warren because he's in a lot of pain.
But I mean that was a terrible bunt effort.

Speaker 3 (06:12):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (06:13):
Oh, I mean, look and you saw what. You know,
you've heard me talk about the bunch so many times
about how the bunt is useless and a bad play.
The Tigers in the top of this inning, first and second,
nobody out, and they have all the momentum in the world,
and they bunt right and they send and it's a
successful bunt and runners go to second and third and

(06:34):
Hobby Bayaz comes up right. So in theory, it's like, Okay,
they get the bunt, they got second and third, and
Hobby Bias is coming up, but he's having a really
good place. He's your nine hitter, but it's still Hobby
Bayas and he's hitting about three thirty in the in
the playoffs. So okay. But to take it from a
situation where first and second, nobody out and the other
team is just absolutely on their heels right now, they're

(06:58):
on their heels with what do we do? Do we do?
And we're gonna let the game settle by giving them
an out, right, So now you put it all on
one play, and we know baseball is a game of failure,
you put it all on one play because if Bias
doesn't get the right, if he doesn't he doesn't get
a base hit or a deep enough fly ball to
get the run in, then the chances of getting out
of the inning for the Mariners just go all the

(07:19):
way through the roof. I would rather have three chances
from second base when you're in scoring position than two
chances with the runner at third, especially when Okay, you've
really got it down to a if you don't get
if you don't get the run in there, if Bias
doesn't get it in, your chance of getting that run
just go all the way down. I'd rather have three
chances with runner in scoring position to get that one

(07:41):
run in then than to give the team the out,
and to also let the game settle for the Mariners,
because you're talking about pitching change, a new guy coming in,
and we're gonna bunt. Okay, we're gonna give the other
team and out. Okay, great, Yeah, that's how we're gonna
do it. We're gonna give the team out. And I
look that and I go, what the hell's going on? Man?

Speaker 3 (07:57):
Right?

Speaker 5 (07:57):
And uh?

Speaker 4 (07:58):
And then I'm making to get McKinstry out at the
plate to finish that analysis of what happened post bunt. Yeah,
get the intentional walk and then the flyout to end
the inning.

Speaker 1 (08:10):
I mean, it's it's it's a nice play they make
to and then of course they get the fly out.
As you said, let's why I mean bunting's not great. Uh.
And now here even where it worked out for the
for the Mariners because they get that hit by pitch
and and and Robles goes to first base. The Tigers
get out of the inning, a flyout to left and

(08:30):
a double play grounder back to the mound. That's not
even close. Randy a rose Arena, who we have seen
succeed in so many situations in the postseason over the
course of his career, grounds right back to the pitcher.
It is an easy double play, and we go to
the thirteenth inning tied at two. They talk about high drama.

(08:55):
Forget it, man, there is there is nothing like the
baseball play I used to think there was nothing. I
just think there was nothing like the hockey playoffs, right,
But it's really NHL playoffs is really more about overtime, right,
because you think about the players, you know, think about
the four major sports.

Speaker 3 (09:11):
Right.

Speaker 1 (09:11):
Football is so incredibly intense, right, I mean you get it,
you get the marked intensity in a playoff game, sure,
but each game means so much. It's intense. It's you know, yeah,
you see the uptick a little bit, but the difference
is not that great. Right In basketball, Yeah, you see
the difference when it gets laid in the game. Lots
of playoff games start out slow. You get to the

(09:32):
end of the game. And but again, you get to
end of the games in the NBA, and that's when
things get intense. In the NHL, when things get to overtime,
there's nothing like it. Every time the other team just
dumps the puck into the other end, You're like, gets
get it out, Just get it out, Just get it out,
Just get it out. But the overall intensity of the
baseball playoffs from the first pitch of a game, whether

(09:55):
it's in the first round, the League Division champions the
League Division Series round alcs the overall intensity and even
for fans that don't have a dog in the fight,
right that, the intensity of this game is absolutely off
the charts, and it does it doesn't matter if you
have a big rooting interest, right like you, I'm watching

(10:15):
this and look, clearly, my family is all Detroit Tigers fans,
and I don't know that they're all gonna have brains
left at the end. They might not. None of them
might be alive after this game because it's it's been
that crazy. But like you know, obviously I'm rooting for them,
and I want I want them to win Detroit. Look, Seattle,
I have friends in Seattle too, But you know, overall. Okay,
I'm not watching the Mets, and I still feel this,

(10:36):
and I think we all still feel this, And this
is what this is why baseball, the intensity of the
difference from regular season to postseason. You tell that jump
right away, all of a sudden, it's first pitch of
the game. Maybe the fans are standing, maybe they're not.
Every yet bad as intense. A walk brings all sorts
of of of heck nickness to the ballpark. Uh, you know,

(10:58):
runners at first and second and one out. It's absolute bedlam.
Like this is how big the playoffs are, every second
of the day, from the top of the first inning
into the top of the thirteenth inning. And again, I
don't know these Seattle fans sitting at this game right now,
Tigers fans that are up at midnight watching this game,
Like I don't know how you're not absolutely just ready

(11:20):
to have your stomach's just your insides just explode at
this point, because that's.

Speaker 3 (11:25):
It's a heavyweight battle.

Speaker 4 (11:26):
And to think about the brilliance that we had from
school that was a full game ago. At this point,
right where we're at as we go to the thirteenth
I want to give credit to Montero for knowing what
to do with the baseball when he fielded that comebacker.
There was no hesitation, no Aaron throws, no chaos, turn
fired a second, get the double play to extend the game.

(11:48):
But man, it's been a roller coaster with a lot
of opportunities and fail to execute. Now we get back
into this Tigers squad, who outside of Carpenter three for
thirty seven on the game as we roll into the
heart of the line.

Speaker 1 (12:03):
And now look and because things change, I'm glad you
brought that up, right, because the way things change with
this game. The big question was, Wow, the Tigers took
Scooble out of the game when he was absolutely dominant. Right,
He'd throw ninety eight pitches thirteen strikeouts. Look, there's a
reason why he's the best pitcher in baseball, right, this
is exactly what you want. Wow, Aja Hinch takes him

(12:23):
out in the seventh inning, they give up a run
right away and the game is tied. You go, oh, man,
but realize that, Okay, at some point Schooble's out of
the game. Maybe it was one more inning where you
sit right now, two two in the thirteenth inning, those
decisions nothing. Nothing has happened so far that that makes
you think, Okay, if Team X wins and Team WHY loses,

(12:44):
I can point to something that happened in the third inning,
the sixth inning, the seventh inning. I mean, look, you
see the way the Tigers bullpen is. I can't sit
here and say, oh man, you took Schooble out. Tiger's
bullpen's giving up one run in the last six innings.
Actually sorry, the Tiger's pitching two runs all night tonight,
one run in the last six innings. They've gotten out
of trouble three different times. Like there's nothing else you want.

(13:06):
This is just an incredible game, and one team is
gonna throw the final punch and that's what's gonna decide this.
That's where're at right now.

Speaker 4 (13:13):
If I can go back to the regular season, just
because Scooble wins is gonna win the cy young and
everything two point two to one era right, career low,
career best, even better than he had in twenty, twenty four,
thirteen and six, once again showing that picture wins are
such an arbitrary stat you can't no support.

Speaker 1 (13:35):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, remember that. That's why, Like you know,
you've seen now with pictures like three hundred wins. Dudude,
We're never.

Speaker 4 (13:41):
Seeing that, no chance, never see specization. No, we're in
our lifetime. If we get five guys that get to
two hundred, I'd be shocked at this.

Speaker 1 (13:50):
Oh yeah, yeah, yeah yeah. By the way, all three.

Speaker 4 (13:53):
Hundred seven point three strikeouts per walk in the regular season,
just to talk about the level of absurdity that he
pitch to.

Speaker 1 (14:01):
So this is where we sit right now. Again, wanted
to bring you this, this breaking stuff happening in the
baseball game. We still have lots of football to get to.
Again to two in the top of the thirteenth. We'll
keep you updated on this full breakdown.

Speaker 4 (14:13):
When it's a lot of prayers in those crowd right now. Man,
every gathers, every man and woman they're showing has the
hands clasped and praying.

Speaker 1 (14:22):
To uh whomever they pray to. Yeah, I can't imagine
what it's like to be sitting in the stands watching this.
I can't imagine. I really can't. I really it's just
oh man. So again, we'll have more than this, but
coming up next College Football Insider Pete few Tech stopspies.

Sports Radio, The Jason Smith Show with my best friend
Mike Harmon. The game of the Year in Major League
Baseball is in the bottom of the thirteenth Flaherty is
in for the Tigers. Dodger legend uh and it walked
cal Rally on a three to two fastball climb. The
ladder Rally laid off it so now the winning run

(15:47):
at first base. Julio Rodriguez is up again, bottom of
the thirteenth inning. This the game of the year in
Major League Baseball. We'll give you an update on this. STEVEJ.
Saga will have more and what's trending coming up in
a few minutes. But we have a big slate of
college football games to get to tomorrow. And joining us
now on the hotline is no one better than the

(16:09):
man who last week came on and said, you know, Florida,
Billy Napier's defense once in a while rises up in
the swamp. Tough day for arch manning in Texas. Florida
does something really good and wins this game, and what happened.
Petefeutech of College Footballnews dot Com was one hundred percent correct.

(16:32):
College Footballnews dot Com is your one stop shopping for
everything college football, all the picks, all the prognostications, like
Florida over Texas. Petfeu Tech joins us, Now, what's happening? Man?

Speaker 5 (16:44):
You can't afford not to listen to this show. I
mean it just we're just you know, you're losing money
if you're not listening right now. It's just how this works. Yeah,
I think some magical was about to happen, because I
seem to think there's been a couple of hail Mary's
over the years or something funky happens. I'm on with you, guys,
and I miss the fun at the very end of
some massive game like that is going on right now.

(17:06):
So there's a way to have a Hail Mary in football,
in baseball, I think we're about to have one, goes.

Speaker 1 (17:11):
I'm on right now, all right, because I'm down with that.
I'm down with some kind of crazy ending. But you
know what people are thinking right now? Okay, smart guy,
you gave me Florida over Texas. What's your big upset?
Nobody sees coming this week? It's what have you done
for me lately? Pete?

Speaker 5 (17:26):
Exactly. It's just all I keep giving is his love
and I asked for nothing in return, and you know,
it just more and more and more I get it.
But I can't make you know, the crystal ball happen.

Speaker 1 (17:39):
It just has to.

Speaker 5 (17:39):
Come to me, you know, like the Lady of the
lake rising up and saying, this is the upset. No,
but it's I. There isn't really one that screams out
kind of obvious this week, and it's, uh, the only
thing that kind of looks like if if if we're
talking and saying, okay, where's the real funky outlier? You
know we joked about ha ha ha, Penn State U
c l A. You know, we can't who could see

(18:01):
that coming? But I wouldn't be shocked if Illinois at
least pushes Ohio State. Ohio State's defense, this includes the
Texas game, has not been stress tested, agreaints anybody who
just throws, and even everyone's forgotten about Illinois because they
got boat raced by Indiana and okay, Steve's not that great,

(18:22):
but they throw really well. Luke Altmeyer's been there for
fourteen years. He's a he's a veteran quarterback. He knows
what he's doing, and he might just make this a
little bit more interesting, at least for a little while.
Because remember Ohio State, it was thirteen to six against
Washington with about ten minutes to go in the game,
and then you know, everything you know, broke loose. So

(18:44):
I just I would caution, just don't assume forty two
to three at least until the.

Speaker 4 (18:49):
Fourth quarterde weird scheduling hiccup as well, though, I mean
they had a game canceled in twenty twenty, but this
is the first time these teams have played each other
since twenty seventeen.

Speaker 3 (18:59):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (19:00):
Crazy, and this is you know, this is is a
Juice Williams game from a million years ago, remember when
you know they screwed up a house stage and so
that that seems like one. This seems like the one
that would be at least an upset because Indiana beating Oregon.
It's crazy, it still sounds. I think Indiana is good

(19:20):
as football. I think it's possible, you know, I don't
think it would be totally crazy if they pulled off
something like that.

Speaker 1 (19:27):
See here's the thing, though, Pete is like, I hear
you on I'd loved able to pick Indiana. I love
for Nanda Mendoza. He's so much fun. But I feel
like Dan Lanning's the best head coach in college football
right now, and Oregon is always prepared. They are always
focused coming off of buying at home. I think maybe
it's close a little while, but Oregon pulls away because
I really I think Dan Lanning is the best head

(19:48):
coach in college football right.

Speaker 5 (19:49):
Now, except for that guy on the other side. Just
got Indiana going to the college Football Playoffs. I kind
of pick that, I kind of I get it. I'm
not gonna deny that Daniel Lannings very good. But if
we're going to NASCAR this and say who's you know,
who's the guy who's doing it. You guys taking Indiana
and made Indiana good at football for the first time

(20:11):
since ever, I think you so you know Signetty has
been amazing and uh no, but it's your point. Yes,
it goes, it goes in that that he's got the
lines built up. This is a physical team. This is
a great Oregon team on the lines. And I think
they win this thing, but I think they get pushed
a little bit and with a good day from Indiana.

(20:33):
But this is budgeted into the you know, this is
put this is put in the Ledger here where Okay,
So Indiana loses this and they lose at Penn State
and they will lose a Penn State and they go
ten and two and they go to the college football
playoffs and they're fine, and they get to miss the
Big Ten championship because you actually want to play in
these championship games anymore if you can get in at
ten and two and be okay, So uh, good, good

(20:53):
showing by Indiana's acceptable loss, and then we'll move off.

Speaker 4 (20:58):
All right, I'll take us to the obligatory arch Man
talk one point favorites forty four and a half with
oklahom on the slate. Can can we see something from
arch that that we haven't to date?

Speaker 5 (21:10):
I don't think we're gonna have to. I mean, I'm
assuming weird things happen in this game that just defy
all logic and reason. I kind of think this is
going to be a defensive flags fest. I don't think
either side goes off and you know, if it's forty
five forty two, it'd be awesome. I'll take that in
a second. Could be more fun. I just don't think

(21:30):
these offenses are going to do anything crazy against these
respective defenses. Arch many against the pressure. Let's this is
about the coaching, Like what is the what is dark
in that group? Figure out over the last week to say, Okay,
we're going against the best pass rushing team in college football,
against the guy who's really struggling. You know, to read
a phone book right out of the gates, so you know,

(21:53):
just give Arch one read and go just let just
make it simple for him, not that he's you know,
not smart or anything, but he's he's still learning, he's
still getting the at bats. I mean, he's got it
all there. He knows how to be a quarterback. Just
let him get out there and fire and just let
it go. Just don't worry about interceptions, don't worry about
making mistakes. Just let the guy get out there and

(22:14):
be a quarterback and just get there, get past that
pass rush in a hurry by just you know, again,
one reads fire, Just go, go go, and Kredie, get
that thing moves. I don't think either side is gonna
get much of a running game going in this.

Speaker 1 (22:26):
The thing is pete like you know. And and again
what you told at the beginning of the year, Hey,
you were stock up on arch Manning, stock down on
Texas and arch Manning. I think eventually is going to
be fine. Right, It's not like he's awful. He's gonna
be fine. But wow, Texas might just not. I mean,
I know they're injured, I know they have a lot,
they have a lot of things going on right now,
but wow, they they might just not be good. Like

(22:48):
I mean, I know, we think, oh they're gonna be great,
Archman but they might just not be a They haven't
really won impressively even when they kind of had buys.
The three weeks leading up to last week, they've not
been great. So I just I'm I'm with you from
the beginning of the season. I just don't know Texas
very good and.

Speaker 5 (23:03):
Takes everything you just said and a plan and put
Penn State in there. And that's basically I think Penn
State's good. I mean, I still think if if Texas
or Penn State get into the tournament, I think either
one of them could do some damage. I would not
be shocked talent wise if either one of them won
the national championship. They just probably aren't gonna get there

(23:25):
because they're both going to be nine and foy ish
or whatever. But this is this is this moment because
I mean, neither one of these teams might end up
being like this might be a big to do game
for a bunch of teams that are going to like
the Pop Cards Bowl or something, because look at what
Oklahoma has ahead. It ain't winning out. It's got two
losses on the rest of the schedule because there is

(23:46):
no break the rest of the way, and it was
to give back on this I'm still not a thousand
percent sold that John McTeer is ready to go and
one hundred percent and all that. I think there's a
I know he's going to probably start, but there's a
lot of gamesmanship happening here. So the line went down
to that. Because of it, I'm sheepishly picking Texas, even

(24:09):
though I'm literally scared that I've done here in my
face for doing this, daring an old videotape with this
Oklahoma for some game. I have no idea what it is,
so i'd probably call it something here, but I'm sheepishly
going to Texas year.

Speaker 1 (24:21):
Well here's the thing, though, Pete, Like you know, for
any of these schools you just mentioned, Penn State, Texas, Hey,
after this year, they can hire Jerry Neuheisel and solve
all their problems. That's all we need to do.

Speaker 2 (24:32):
You know.

Speaker 5 (24:32):
Sometimes that's just it. And it's again, I keep saying
this every each and every week, over and over again,
the over coaching, the over everything, the over sometimes you know,
the headset wasn't working against I mean, you aren't really
even getting any calling anything out there, and what happened, Hey, Nico,
go out there and be awesome. And all of a

(24:53):
sudden everything, you know, we kind of already knew about
the guy. He's Jaydon Daniels life. He's that good, And
all of a sudden you get went out there and said, okay,
you know our season's lost. Anyway, go beat Penn State.
What happened. Nico was the best player on the field.
So I think, yeah, sometimes you just have that. I
think we're over too. I do think there is going
to be that moment when Arch just comes out and

(25:14):
all of a sudden, bam, thirty five of forty for
three eighty and four touchdowns, and're like, okay, there we go.
It just it seems like all he needs is just
one big performance and then all of a sudden, everything
just exhales and everything starts roll with them next.

Speaker 4 (25:29):
Next up for the Nitney Lyons twenty one and a
half point favorites over Northwestern. All right, let's go to
the other team here in Los Angeles.

Speaker 3 (25:37):
I don't think Lincoln Riley.

Speaker 4 (25:38):
Did any complaining about travel for this week, although I
mean you could puddle jump some of the flights faster
than you can get up and down the highways of
Los Angeles. Either way, Michigan line up Michigan plus three
against USC this week.

Speaker 5 (25:54):
I just don't think Michigan has enough firepower. I just
it's you see, should have it. The travel shouldn't matter,
you know, but look it looks around to remember Michigan
State ended its game against USC at two in the morning.
They're eternal clock time, you know, So it does work
both ways. But you know, look, go out there, play better,

(26:14):
and you're all right, and Michigan's good. Michigan's got enough
to pull this up. But you can't really play this
one close to the vest. I don't think Underwood will,
but this USC has got a great team. There's a
great pass rush. I think they get to him. We
saw this against Oklahoma or Oklahoma's great pass rush didn't
necessarily grew up Underwood. But he's still a freshman, and

(26:34):
it just it obviously stalled the offense enough. I think
that's what we get. I think USC's defense just goes
off in this.

Speaker 1 (26:41):
All right, Great, thanks Pete, because now now all the
way to the game tomorrow, sitting next to my wife,
she's gonna go, Yeah that Pete feu Tech said we
were gonna win. Call him right now. You have his
phone number.

Speaker 5 (26:51):
Call Um, yeah, that's when you turn to your wife.
You know, you know he's an idiot, right, you know,
it's just all it's all he gets a completely cool
who just knows nothing about sports. He's just face didn't
making it that just you know, didn't.

Speaker 3 (27:07):
Go buy that all right?

Speaker 1 (27:12):
Oh my goodness. Pete Futech with us Jason Smith Mike
Carmon live from the College Football studios all right for
the Fox Sports Radio College Fooall studios here. So so
I asked, Pete, now, you talked about it last week.
We thought, you know, potentially we could have seen someone
make a big Heisman move last week. We're getting halfway
through the season right now, and so far it's like,
yeh yeah, Carson Beck maybe, like, how do you see it?

(27:36):
So far?

Speaker 5 (27:37):
There's nobody. I mean, there's nobody there. Every time you think, okay,
this is the moment, I guess. I guess if John Matteer,
because of his hair, comes out you know it's awesome tomorrow,
then okay, then maybe it's his. But the problem with
with Matier is gonna be again that second half of

(27:58):
the Oklahoma schedules. Got these two losses coming his way,
so we're gonna get to the point where where everyone's
gonna kind of make something happen. Everyon's gonna try to
make don Kay Morris thing, or someone's gonna make if
Tys Simpson goes off against Missouri, which that game tomorrow,
Alabama Missouri is probably gonna be one of the more
interesting fun games tomorrow.

Speaker 3 (28:17):
But you're right, I.

Speaker 5 (28:18):
Mean, there's just nobody there who's screaming, Hey, I'm the
player of the year, you know, because there is a back.
I mean, Caleb Downs for that Ohio State defense is
probably the best player in college football.

Speaker 3 (28:29):
But he is not.

Speaker 5 (28:30):
Winning the Heisman. So all right, so it's no way,
but they always pop up. There's always one guy one
day who shines in the right spot, and uh, it's
just not there yet.

Speaker 1 (28:41):
You can follow on Twitter at Pete few Tech. That
is at Pete feutech college Footballnews dot com. You're one
stop shopping for everything college football. If Michigan's winning in
the second half, beate, have your phone handy.

Speaker 5 (28:53):
If not, don't worry. I am aware of you know
who I am. That's fine by me. I'm apt at this.

Speaker 1 (29:05):
Taking easybody and joy the games. We'll talk to you
next week.

Speaker 3 (29:09):
Guys.

Speaker 4 (29:09):
See, he embraces the thing like like I always tell
you with the fantasy if if I was able to
get you to toggle to my side of my argument
with my player, I did my job, and Pete futech
very much the same way.

Speaker 1 (29:22):
Oh yeah, yeah no, because my wife loves peaches. Wow,
he's right about so much.

Speaker 3 (29:26):
He saw.

Speaker 1 (29:26):
Hey, I have the Florida upset, all this all and
all the gay but now tomorrow, all all the way
to the game, that's all we're gonna say. That's all
she's gonna talk about, is what do you say? This?
This this is all my my love speak. But now
now I gotta I gotta defend him. Now she's gonna say,
I want you to never have him on your chilling game.

Speaker 3 (29:42):
Wow.

Speaker 4 (29:43):
Yeah, no, we're not doing that. Uh but I mean,
are you going somewhere special to watch this one? I
mean no, we're going to the game. We're going You're
actually yeah, yeah you kidding. Yeah, We're going to the games. Yeah,
I'm gonna get to call plays. You're going to a game.

Speaker 3 (29:57):
Good for you, dude.

Speaker 1 (29:58):
I gotta gett a lot. Rob Parker, very I can't
believe it. So again, thanks to Pete fu Tech again.
Find him on Twitter at Pete fu Tech. Right now,
in the game of the Year in Major League Baseball,
once again, the Tigers have the go ahead run in
scoring position. A double has put a runner at second

(30:19):
with two outs with one out, rather meadows is up
had a big sacrifice earlier in the game. Top of
the fourteenth inning, this game remains tied at to a piece.
Bizardo trying to get out of this again. Dingler with
a double the left I think it's his first hit
in nine weeks. Okay, just use that way. So to

(30:40):
a great surname though, I mean yes, I mean yeah,
I mean Dingler's a great name. Absolutely, I mean Dingle's
a great name. But right now, to find out more
details on this game and everything else happening in the
world of sports, it's special delivery Steve to Seger. What
do you got, Steve O.

Speaker 7 (30:55):
This is incredible. Let's see adal on Fox TV right now.
Detroit against the Mariners, two two outs, top of the
fourteenth tied to to This is the longest winner take
all playoff game in history. And the Seattle Mariners three
four five hitters in the order, oh for sixteen combined
Detroit's three four five hitters in the order oh for

(31:17):
sixteen combined and in fact out of the pen. Detroit
used a starting pitcher, Jack Flaherty, to pitch the bottom
of the thirteenth inning. He walked the first two batters
and then got a strikeout and a groundball double play
to end the frame.

Speaker 8 (31:33):
So that's where we stand.

Speaker 1 (31:34):
He did not look confident at all.

Speaker 7 (31:37):
His fastball was all over the place. He was talking
to himself constantly on the mount. I thought he had
his invisible friend there right next to him. And he
gets out of the inning somehow, And now we've got
another pitching change coming up.

Speaker 1 (31:51):
Is Harve's going? Harvey, what pitch would I throw? A?
Look that fastball is he talking.

Speaker 8 (31:59):
To That is somewhat of a Jimmy Stewart person.

Speaker 1 (32:04):
Come on, marriage one up. Just pull the moon down
for you right here.

Speaker 8 (32:07):
Marrion a little better, different movie. But okay, well it
doesn't matter.

Speaker 1 (32:12):
I don't know any other big lines Tigers. That's that one.
That was okay.

Speaker 7 (32:15):
The Sato Mariners, according to AP, the second team ever
to ian extra innings of a postseason game ground into
multiple double plays. Hadn't happened other than the Astros against
the White Sox and the World Series twenty years ago.
Here we've got a pitching change. Top of the fourteenth
with two outs. Luis Castillo, a starting pitcher, is coming

(32:35):
on to face Hovey or Bias in the two attack game.

Speaker 1 (32:38):
It's actual Luis Castillo, the former infielder.

Speaker 3 (32:40):
They're out of it.

Speaker 8 (32:42):
Yeah, it's just astounding where we are in this.

Speaker 7 (32:45):
It's got to end just through attrition at some point
here long ago, much earlier tonight, And I know Detroit
people are watching this at twelve forty in the morning.
But the Tigers starting pitcher, superstar Trek Scooble, went six
in a mere ninety nine pitches, three thirteen strikeouts and
no walks to go with that, including a playoff record

(33:08):
seven straight strikeouts. Do you have to say he's not
getting a decision in this one?

Speaker 3 (33:13):
Tell g eight.

Speaker 8 (33:17):
Fourteenth for rezoom in a moment.

Speaker 7 (33:19):
Meanwhile, the Blue Jays are awaiting whoever's flying to Toronto
and say, can this go twenty innings?

Speaker 8 (33:24):
How about twenty one?

Speaker 7 (33:25):
The ALCS starts in Toronto this Sunday night from Fox TV.

Speaker 1 (33:31):
Yeah, what if the game's not over, will they still
start Sunday night.

Speaker 2 (33:34):
What squad, Maybe.

Speaker 7 (33:36):
You just have to take a bus immediately and then
maybe you'll get there by Sunday night. Game two is
going to be on Monday in Toronto. As for the
college football, it's all over tonight and what a performance
at Washington by the Huskies. Quarterback Demon Williams had over
five hundred total yards four touchdowns. Washington beat Rutgers on
FS one thirty eight nineteen number twenty four. South Florida

(33:59):
dominated the second half and won sixty three thirty six.
At North Texas. Colorado State was one and four, but
at a great first half and beat up Fresno State
forty nine to twenty one. The WNBA Finals over Las
Vegas with a four game sweep. Winning at Phoenix tonight
ninety seven eighty six. Asia Wilson Finals MVP with thirty
one points. Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson will miss a second

(34:23):
straight game with his hamstring injury. Gentlemen, we are going
to the bottom of the fourteenth inning because Luis Castillo
has just gotten with two outs, pop out to first.
It's still Tigers too. Mariners two to the bottom of
the fourteenth on Fox TV.

Speaker 1 (34:39):
Back to you thank you, Steve. O. Boy, do we
have more high drama coming your way with this game? Look,
game of the year and mate, clearly, with everything at stake,
game of the year in Major League Baseball. What we
have going on right now?

Speaker 3 (34:51):
How could you not be romantic?

Speaker 1 (34:53):
Oh my god, this is this is what makes you
fall in love with baseball. The games don't need to
all be eight seven, nine, eight eleven, oh, but it
can be this kind of drama with runners in scoring
position and teams making plays, getting double plays. The Tigers
I think have gotten out of three innings in extra
innings with double plays. I want to say that that's happened.

Speaker 3 (35:14):
So far, the ex execution.

Speaker 1 (35:17):
We have more on this, plus we continue to pick
the biggest games in the NFL this weekend. That's coming
up next right here, Jason to Mike Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 2 (35:26):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 1 (35:36):
Fox Sports Radio. The Jason Smith Show with My best
friend Mike harmon Detroit and Seattle. Creeping up on the
five hour mark, bottom of the fourteenth inning, JP Crawford
is up runner on first two outs. Flaherty in his
second inning of relief for the Tigers, trying to send

(35:58):
this thing to the fifth teenth inning. Who will have
more on this game coming up in a few minutes.
But look, it's a big football Friday. Thanks to Pete
Futack who joined us a few minutes ago, all the
big news in college football, got a lot of big
NFL games to break down for you and pick going
into this week. Let's get to a couple of the

(36:20):
other big games we haven't gotten to yet. And this
falls under the category of the this will tell me
who's for real game?

Speaker 3 (36:30):
Right?

Speaker 1 (36:30):
Like we we kind of like both of these teams,
and I think, okay, the winner of this game will say, okay,
I believe this team is for real Seattle and Jacksonville.
Who is for real? Winner of this game? We will
stay the game right it is. It's a phenomenal game, right,
and it's something that the Jaguars needed. Look, Trevor Lawrence

(36:51):
flipped the narrative of his career with that touchdown run
last week to win that game. Because look, he's honestly,
he's just a guy. He's been just a guy He
needed a heroic moment like that, and he got it
to beat the Chiefs and flip the narrative for his
career like a.

Speaker 4 (37:06):
Baby giraffe, stumbling bumbling, he got there.

Speaker 1 (37:10):
But Seattle at home Jacksonville coming off the Monday night
football thriller. I'm gonna take Seattle winning it, and I'm
taking the under. They will slow the Jaguars running game,
which honestly has been their backbone. Right like we saw that.
Everybody got to see them on Monday Night. He's like, Wow,
here's Trevor Lawrence the heroics. No, they've been winning games
because their defense has been good and they've been able

(37:31):
to run the football fantastically. But Seattle's gonna run the
football all day on them. It's gonna be hard coming off.
That's kansasity win for them to keep momentum going Seattle
at home, long trip for Jacksonville. I'll take Seattle in
the Who's for Real game to show that they're gonna
win this.

Speaker 4 (37:48):
What's curious for you know, the generational talent that is
Trevor Lawrence Sunshine is that he does have the opportunity
haull the linebackers out. Wooln is doubtful, and Witherspoon wasn't
gonna make the trip either because of a knee. So
you got at least three defensive starters out for your
Seattle Seahawks, so perhaps some opportunity. I'm looking at you,

(38:11):
Brian Thomas. Can you guys get on the same page.
Can we sing Hello by Lionel Richie to see if
you guys can find some kind of connection?

Speaker 1 (38:18):
Hang on, they're not Jalen Hurts an A. J.

Speaker 3 (38:20):
Brown. It's not that bad.

Speaker 1 (38:22):
Take it easy. It's not good as four.

Speaker 4 (38:25):
For eighty last week was the was the breakthrough game
for this season. So you got that going for you.
But for Sam Donald and that offense, two headed backfield
and JSN, I'll take that, with a little bit of
maybe Arroyo finding his way across the middle as well.

Speaker 3 (38:44):
So I'll take Seattle.

Speaker 4 (38:45):
It's all incumbent upon Sam Donald taking care of the football.

Speaker 1 (38:50):
You know who's playing their biggest game of the year
on Sundays. That are the Chargers, because we'll know on
Sunday if their problems can be overcome and they can
stay a couple of games over five hundred until the
Cavalry shows up, which is the return of Amar and
Hampton and they figure out their offensive line because you
see what happens. There are no injuries have hurt any

(39:11):
team more than the ol injuries with the Chargers because
they went from being they're a top five team in
the NFL to man, they got problems. But I gotta
figure trumping though Miami. Miami has been terrible. They blow
the big lead last week, but this is gonna be
a nail bier again. The travel for the Chargers. It's
gonna be hot, but I'm gonna say a defensive stand

(39:32):
wins it for the Chargers. And again I like the
under in this game against the Dolphins, but I'll take
the Chargers escaping and keeping the good times going for another.

Speaker 4 (39:40):
Week plus three and a half forty three and a
half the total Miami and to a tongue, Baila, they
get this done. McDaniel will be confused and unintelligible at
the pressure.

Speaker 3 (39:53):
It doesn't matter.

Speaker 1 (39:54):
That's gonna happen regardless. Man, that's none win lose. That's
gonna happen regardless.

Speaker 2 (39:58):
I mean, that's what I mean, that's what we know
we're going to get.

Speaker 4 (40:01):
But in this case, he's going to be trying to
describe the euphoria of a victory.

Speaker 1 (40:08):
Can you describe the euphoria of a victory? And then no,
I really can't. I'm uh, you know, I uh you know,
I wish it was colder. Now, the one thing they're
not saying, I wish it was colder. Exit out about
a Fresca exit? Swallow? Do home coming up next? More
NFL preview? And are we ever going to see an

(40:31):
end to the Tigers and the Mariners? That's next right here,
chasing to Mike Fox.
