Speaker 2 (00:23):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 1 (00:29):
Gambling. There's gambling in this hall. I am shocked. Yeah,
you got trouble right here in River City. Fox Sports Radio,
The Jason Smith Show with my best friend Mike Harmon.
Speaker 3 (00:40):
Damn su.
Speaker 1 (00:43):
We got Jay Glazer coming your way in about twenty
five minutes. Anfl on Fox Insider, All kinds of great stuff,
reaction on Thursday Night Football, The latest on Aaron Rodgers
wanting to go back to the Packers when he retires.
What's going on with Sean Payton and Russ Wilson. Oh,
we got more foot coming up in about twenty five minutes.
But the big story of the day the gambling scandal
(01:06):
in the NBA where Portland Trail Blazers head coach Chauncey
billups Miami heat guard Terry Rogier, former Cleveland Cavaliers player
assistant coach Damon Jones, all were arrested as part of
some wide ranging investigations related to illegal sports betting and
rigged poker games backed by the mafia. Now Billups was involved.
We talked about him a few minutes ago being involved
(01:27):
in these poker games backed by the mafia, where Jones
and Rosier were involved, mainly in some illegal betting information
that got out before games. Damon Jones, who was quote
an assistant, but not really what I was kind of
unpaid or volunteer assistance. Ye might as well call him
(01:48):
an intern. Yeah, i'd bean, Look what day can I
get that coffee for you?
Speaker 4 (01:51):
In other words, he couldn't get away from the game.
He hung around. People liked him well enough, so there
he was. He was Lebron James's friend for a long time.
Speaker 1 (01:57):
But he played with him for several years in Cleveland,
eleven year in the NBA, and you know, kind of
an assistant coach with the Lakers during Darvin Ham's time
when he was head coach. And there was one game
where he learned that Lebron James wasn't going to play,
so he let people know Hey, before this gets gets
out there, Lebron's not going to play tonight.
Speaker 4 (02:15):
So it's his plausible deniability that he wasn't actually telling
them for gambling purposes, but rather, you don't want to
come to this game.
Speaker 1 (02:22):
I can't tell you what to do. You really shouldn't
come to the game because you're not gonna see someone
who rhymes with Sechmann schmains. Just so you know he's
not gonna be there. Meanwhile, Terry Rozier, we know the
one big story from him from a few years ago
where he removed himself from a game with a head injury.
This after a slew of money went down on his
(02:44):
underprop bets. The government found up three to seven games
they were looking at in the span where individual prop
bets were not met because the outcome was fixed by
players and by situations, and these players members of a
crime family. It's a really big deal. This has been
the big story of the day, and there's nobody better
(03:07):
to talk to. The guy we got to talk to
tonight on the show, our longtime Vegas insider Todd Furman,
former odds maker at Caesar's. Alright, he joins us every
week had to bet the Board podcast for so long,
he's on CBS, he's on TSN Sports Line, and Todd
gave us some great stuff about what was happening. Todd,
Welcome to the show man. How's it going?
Speaker 5 (03:28):
Always good to catch up, guys. Wish it was under
slightly better circumstances, but this is currently the sports landscape
that we all live in. So better that we address
the issues at its root cause. Then I'll let some
of these things fester and let that misinformation continue to
circulate like we've seen throughout media today.
Speaker 1 (03:44):
Okay, so do that for us. Get get to the
root of it, the root cause, talk about it. The
big thing for you coming off of the scandal, The
big thing.
Speaker 5 (03:52):
For this is it means the legal process is working.
And while a lot of people will scoff at that notion,
if we didn't have any form of legalized sports betting,
all of this would be swept under the rug. It
would be taking place in the Caribbean, it would be
taking place in nefarious spots with your corner book maker. Instead,
you had folks looking to try and gain an edge,
getting information through illicted channels and moving that money through
(04:15):
regulated sports books. Now to what amount we're not quite
sure just yet. I don't want to speculate on the
numbers that are being circulated. But this is what legalized
sports betting was meant to do. Shine a brighter light,
provided disinfectant. And while people can say we can bury
our head in the sand, you know, the joke that
I made is a player in an NFL game can
tear his ACL just because he doesn't get an MRI
(04:36):
to confirm it, they still know what's a torn ACL.
And it's very similar in this regard that we can
pretend sports betting isn't going to go on in any
capacity if it wasn't legalized with a repeal of pass BUTA.
But the reality of it is it's taking place, and
we just now have a better vehicle to be able
to monitor and regulate it.
Speaker 1 (04:51):
Well, that was the thing all day, Todd.
Speaker 4 (04:53):
The number of outlets that immediately began the well they
need to dissociate from the gambling, you know that and
wherever you know, pick pick your your sports book, and
they just need to put all that money back and
go go away. It's like to your point, like no
that there are processes in place. This has always existed.
(05:13):
Now it's just we've got transparency at least to some degree.
Speaker 5 (05:18):
Exactly, and that's the whole thing. I mean, I work
for a company that we had relationships with a lot
of the collegiate conferences. We provided a report on a
regular basis if there were a regularities that were picked
up in the betting market. Now, I know, player props
are a little bit different, and with the advent of
the single game parlay, all of these sports books need
a lot more offerings that the individual customers can tie
(05:38):
into their multipliers here. So you know, my issue with
all of this is, you know, do the sportsbook take
some responsibility quite frankly, yeah, in my opinion, they do.
There's no reason to be offering player props on guys
that are ninth, tenth or eleventh on NBA rosters. If
you want to offer them on the marquee players on
a Tuesday night in November, by all means, go ahead.
But as soon as you start to see anything that
(06:00):
resembles in a regular betting pattern, the alarm bell should
go off, especially if it's from accounts that are either
no losers or brand new accounts that are out there.
So in my opinion, there's got to be a communication
breakdown on some level, and not being privy to that information,
I'm very curious what comes out in the wash and
how all of this gets tied together.
Speaker 1 (06:18):
So as we looked at this today, there's always the report, Okay,
this is what happened today. Is there more? Is something
bigger coming? Do you think there's something bigger coming? Or
is this what we got now and then in a
year and a half we'll get another gambling sweep somewhat
like this.
Speaker 5 (06:33):
I think it's a great question, and one if I'm
speculating here without any information, that this is just kind
of the tip of the proverbial iceberg, that there will
be more information that comes to light. Unfortunately, in my opinion,
there'll be other players, maybe other coaches around the league
to get swept up in this. But I think what's interesting,
even over the course of twelve hours in the news cycle,
you know, we thought these were two separate stories, Chauncey
(06:55):
Billups involved in illicted poker games with their own set
of issues and terry stuff which had been in guests
investigated for the last year and a half. Then we
come to find out as the day goes on that
there was some connective tissue between these two things. And
it appears that Damon Jones, a member of the coaching
staff up there in Portland, was a little bit of
a problem. The report breaks about him sharing information about
(07:16):
Lebron James availability and now all of a sudden, the
lid is kind of blown off. So I think we're
going to continue to accumulate information and more and more
is going to come to light, and probably not in
a positive manner.
Speaker 4 (07:27):
Well, that's the thing when you go back into these
gambling things. Jason and I were, you know, talking about
it at the top of the show, Todd. You know,
it takes from every TV show and movie we've ever
had about illicit card games and cons right, but we
know that people want access to athletes, and athletes want
(07:49):
everybody to fawn on them, which means you get to
the storytelling time and maybe that one piece of information,
whether knowingly or not, that you've now given someone the
edge and you've set things in motion.
Speaker 1 (08:01):
And so that's the question.
Speaker 5 (08:04):
Yeah, the events of today honestly harm. It feels like
we have blue chips meeting rounders creating a major motion picture.
I mean, the highlight that was circulating across social media
of Terry Rogier turning the ball over at the top
of the key looked like Tony. And last time I checked,
when Tony got his a's and TV, you don't just
watch the tube in that class. You actually have to
focus on your academics. Meanwhile, for the poker games and
(08:26):
everything else that comes out around it, look high stakes
A type athletes are always going to be around these situations.
And I'm not sure if it becomes the facto guilt
by association that one of the poker clips that came
out from the Friends podcast that was out there, both
of the gentlemen that are professional poker players may or
may not have been at my wedding. So there is
a little bit of connective tissue to some of this
(08:47):
stuff that goes on.
Speaker 2 (08:48):
Wow.
Speaker 1 (08:48):
So so if I'm reading this right, at your wedding,
you had a big backroom poker game, high stakes boomsman.
Speaker 5 (08:57):
That is that is not what I said. We didn't
have X ray technology.
Speaker 1 (09:00):
That I've already twitt so a ton I've already tweeted
that out. I'm sorry, I can't. I can't change that.
Speaker 5 (09:06):
But we didn't have any members of Geneviez through the
Chasey crime family in attendance, at least not to my knowledge.
But look, when you're around the gambling industry in any capacity,
whether it be sports or poker, there's always going to
be that proverbial Venn diagram where sports is on one side,
poker's on the other, and there is still a very
large overlap between the two communities.
Speaker 1 (09:26):
That's it. Six degrees of separation.
Speaker 4 (09:28):
Yeah, I mean, look, I I remember when the Wildcats
had their scandal all those years ago for point shaving.
Those were guys that I ended up having gotten tickets
from for years to book that That.
Speaker 5 (09:42):
That's how it works. And as we know Smith, anytime
there's a scandal, the first thing I'm going to the
newswire to try and find is if the Harmon brothers
are associated to nefarious activity.
Speaker 2 (09:50):
Around the Lord.
Speaker 1 (09:51):
You know, well, you know where the Harmon brothers were
last week, right.
Speaker 5 (09:55):
That I don't. But if they were sitting behind the
bench last night at the Rose Garden, we quite the story.
Speaker 1 (10:00):
No, dude, you kidding? They were in Paris at the
Louver last week, both of them.
Speaker 5 (10:06):
Well then you know, credit to you arem for showing
up to work and knowing that you have those fancy
French jewels working in your favor somewhere being fenced on
the black.
Speaker 1 (10:14):
Market somewhere somehow. So Hey Todd, now that we get
and Vegas insider Todd Furman our guest here as we
break down the NBA gambling scandal. Obviously, the big name
involved in this is Lebron James, who has not been
named in this report. It was just hey Damon Jones,
who was kind of with the Lakers when Darvin Ham
was there. Let it be known that Hey, allegedly Lebron's
(10:35):
not playing tonight and money went down against the Lakers.
Do we need to hear anything from Lebron on this?
Like does he need to like seeing this and how
you think this might unfold? Like do we need some
kind of statement or does he just not say anything
unless something happens which we need to hear from him?
Speaker 5 (10:52):
For No, I think he should be as bad as
buttoned up as possible around this whole situation, because the
reality of it is, unless Lebron James knew when he
told Damon Jones he was or wasn't going to be
available for games when Jones wasn't on the coaching staff,
knowing where that information was going. In my opinion, Damon
Jones is the weak link that broke the proverbial chain.
If Lebron's talking to a friend or colleague, hey, I'm
(11:13):
not going to be out there tonight, then I don't
think he did anything wrong. But what it does call
into question, and you know why people have a right
to be critical of what goes on is the NBA
player availability report. This is why that people scoff at
those notions. Why the NBA needs to do a better
job and hold their teams accountable. Why college coaches like
Lane Kiffer, who treated as a joke, create problems. You
(11:36):
get the wrong personalities poking around professional organizations or on
a worst case level, around college campuses doing these kinds
of things to see what players are going to be
out there. The NFL knew what they were getting themselves
in for. There's a reason the injury report is available
on Wednesday, Thursdays and Fridays, and they're about as transparent
as any league in sports. I think every league needs
to begin to understand why this information needs to be
(11:58):
out there, and whether it's a star starting pitcher in
Major League Baseball or an NHL team being required to
share their starting goalie information. The more information that you
put above board that's out there for general public consumption,
it alleviates some of the concerns that are inevitably going
on behind the scenes. And for all these coaches who
believe it's a little bit of smoking mers, you can
(12:19):
create all the smoking mers you want until it completely
blows up in your face and this becomes the end result.
Speaker 1 (12:24):
He is Vegas insider extraordinary Todd Furman. Check him out
on Twitter at Todd Furman. See him on CBS Sports
Line TSN Todd is always appreciated. Or see him around
a poker table in Vegas eating Oreo cookies. You know
he's bluffing. Todd. Thanks a bunch, buddy. We'll talk to
you next week.
Speaker 5 (12:42):
Could prefer hydros when I'm sitting at the table.
Speaker 1 (12:44):
Annythy Orio, nicely done. Thanks for stopping down, buddy. We
appreciate you. Great stuff there from Todd Furman. Look the
great point he made right off the beginning, where hey, leally,
this is working. This is the way it's supposed to work.
Where something happens and even you know, talking about how
the sports books when they see something they let people
know and this is how it's supposed to work.
Speaker 3 (13:04):
Right.
Speaker 1 (13:05):
That means great, great stuff from Todd Fermer Well, pulling
the curtain back.
Speaker 4 (13:09):
It was a huge thing there because I don't think
most people understood that there was always the communication from
the sports books if something was out of whack, yeah right.
They didn't just say, oh, well that's kind of interesting
and just let it play out like no, no, no. They
notified the appropriate folks. So I think that's a big
part of the equation for folks in the learning process here.
Speaker 1 (13:29):
Now, I do also want to say this because this
is just kind of a hot take on the story
from today, but when we got into last night Bad
Bunny halftime of the Super Bowl, Roger Goodell says, look,
we've looked into this, put a lot of fun into
having Bad Bunny be the halftime performer. Very polarizing. A
lot of people don't want them to come, you know,
(13:50):
the big the big polarization that's gone on with this
since Bad Bunny was announced. But the NFL is doing
this because they know that well, okay, yeah, we're gonna
get some pushback on it, but the best way for
us to grow our audience is globally and Bad Bunny
is one of the biggest international superstars in the world.
(14:11):
So the NFL is saying, we're okay taking this controversy
now because the gains we're gonna get by having Bad
Bunny on and continuing to push the game globally is
worth it for us. Right, the same thing, different levels
here For the NBA, what happened today was an acceptable
(14:32):
outcome for this scandal because it wasn't really really big names.
It wasn't something that we haven't heard before. I mean,
the the poker thing is just crazy, but that's really
kind of separate from the NBA. But like you know,
we've heard about stuff like this before. It's not incredibly
large names, which would be a different thing. And we're
(14:52):
going to move on from this story pretty quick. Like
it's a big story today into tomorrow, but then we're
gonna move on from it. The NBA is saying this
is an acceptable outcome for the scandal, knowing that the
gains we're gonna make by our partnerships with gambling entities,
whether it's fan duel and DraftKings, it's worth it for us.
It's worth it for us to be to be closer
to GAMP because we're making more money, we're growing the game,
(15:14):
we're bringing it out to more people, more people are
consuming it. This is an acceptable outcome for us. Now,
it's still bad and they got to address things. You
don't want it, but overall they have to look at
this and go, Okay, we have to deal with the
blowback of this because it's bad and we'll fix it.
And it's good that the you know, the government did this,
but overall, okay, we still need to go forward with gambling.
(15:35):
We still need to make sure that that this is
this is we're in with it now. It's part of
our future again, it's part of what's growing the game
for us. So the long term gains from this. What
happened today was sort of acceptable.
Speaker 4 (15:45):
Yeah, everybody doing the they need to distance themselves and
cut off all these ties and cut off that revenue
and all of that. And I know that on a
couple of shows on a certain network they remove the
logo for their betting service in the middle of the discussions,
which was kind of interesting. But all of that to say,
they it was estimated that one hundred and sixty seven
(16:06):
million dollars of revenue from sports betting and casino partnerships
the NBA. How much do you think is legally bet
what the estimate was for the twenty twenty five season
that we're in with the NFL right now?
Speaker 1 (16:20):
Boy? Legally?
Speaker 4 (16:21):
Legally legally, oh, because we can't count shadow money. But
this gives you an idea of how large it all is,
does it?
Speaker 1 (16:27):
Beam with a b oh? Yeah? Five billion, thirty thirty
billion legally? Wow?
Speaker 4 (16:34):
Now, if all that money actually trickled back into schools
and roads like it was supposed to, like the little
you know, rounding off pennies like in office space, the
world would be better for it. You know, keep fighting
that have good fight there. But all of that to
say when you get down or whatever other charities might
be enumerated, But it's a lot of money into the
pockets and the owners. And a story like this while unsavory,
(16:57):
go back to what happened with the Guardians and their
bullpen and Classe who was a top notch closer and
now he gonna not gonna play anymore. All of that
to say that the checks and balances are working, Are
they perfect?
Speaker 3 (17:12):
No?
Speaker 4 (17:12):
Are you gonna get punched in the face and be
left with a black eye now and again for this. Yeah,
but you rise up and say, Okay, the information is flowing,
and you know what, you don't want to catch a
big fish, but guess what if you do, all the
better because look, we're not immune to it. And this
becomes the cautionary tale, particularly if it's someone on a
Hall of Fame trajectory, and we've been talking about Chauncey.
(17:34):
Billups says he's a guy that when we talk about
the Pro Basketball Hall of Fame, you know how wide
reaching it is, maybe he would get in. Well maybe
this now cuts it off. I don't know their charter
altogether as to how guys and women would vote on
his candidacy now versus a year ago. As you look
at it going forward again, they've been arrested. Still a
(17:57):
lot to go in terms of the legal process. But
all of that to say, Jason, it's it's good that
the game gets to say, hey, we caught this, and
now we have more checks and balances, and everybody gets
that cautionary tale of hey, if you know something, you
better say something, because it puts the league and your
multi million dollar paychecks in jeopardy.
Speaker 1 (18:18):

You still have not played Wolfgang Van Hale in the end.
You still have not played that. I played it. No,
you didn't play it. Played some other Wolf games. You
might have played that in there though, you did. Yeah,
I played it during the break. I played in my
Spotify playlist. Yeah, in my own head from his head, Yeah,
that's what I did. Final playnex The Jason Smith Show
with Mike Harmon, Live from the Fox Sports Radio Studios,
(19:51):
Thursday Night Football. The most complete effort all season by
the Chargers. You know, remember I picked the Chargers to
go to the AFC Championship games. Now you're jumping back
on board. They heap up the floor with the Vikings
thirty seven to ten. Again, a complete game from them.
Joe alt is back.
Speaker 3 (20:07):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (20:07):
Clearly the offense missed him the way they were able
to perform tonight. Carson wentz, I can't believe that Kevin
O'Connell didn't take him out of the game at the
end when he was clearly injured. His left arm was
hanging by a thread, he was getting drilled, he was crying,
there were tears in his eyes. Got to know these things, man,
Glad we get to talk about this stuff with Jake Lazer.
(20:28):
There you have NFL on Fox Insider Extraordinary. The only
show Jay joins on Fox Sports Radio is us after
every Thursday night game. Got to talk to him earlier
tonight following this win. We got stuff on the game.
We got Aaron Rodgers saying he wants to retire in
Green Bay when he's all said and done. What about
the fallout from Sean Payton and Russell Wilson. Jay was
(20:50):
great on that. What's happening, man, how's it going?
Speaker 3 (20:53):
Uh, appreciate you guys. Always love coming on with Josh.
So one thing I think we could hear well, I
hopefully plugg I went from playing you know, so many injuries.
Speaker 5 (21:02):
Uh.
Speaker 3 (21:02):
He is certainly not one of those guys that is
a reclamation project that we see that there's a Baker
And you know, I don't think he's one of those
guys where your lookal man, if he's with Kevin O'Connell,
then he can get the best out of him. He's
not one of those guys. And and uh, you know,
I know Kevin needed him to be, but I don't
(21:23):
think that was Carson, man. Carson is a little bit different.
Speaker 1 (21:25):
You know. And the thing is, Jay is like watching
the end of this game and I'm going take him
out of the game. You can see he's getting hit
so hard on every play and he's he's not just hurt,
he's injured. How does Kevin Cronell not take him out
of the game.
Speaker 3 (21:38):
Well, listen, I think there is one thing about guys
who are playing for injuries, and it's your honor to
fight hurt. So the guy can go, he can go,
and I think you know that huge drop off under that.
He's like, well that's totally different also, but you know, look,
here's the deal. Also, so you guys know the bal
JJ McCarthy all right, they've been working him out for
(21:59):
the last couple of weeks. He still just hasn't been
where he needed Again. I talked to Kevin about it.
He's like, look, he's only started. He started on one
or two games, right, So he's like everybody. I just
was like, a great ol veteran, we get him back.
He pushed back, and he doesn't need to be one
hundred percent. But because of you know what I have
to do with developing him, you don't want to push
(22:20):
him in there before he's ready and then all of
a sudden where you're trying to help, you know, build
some growth in there and have an upward trajectory. He's
just playing from you know, behind the apole the whole time.
He's not going to grow. So we in this case,
you need him to be one hundred percent because he
does use his legs a lot, is rammobile, and you
don't want to put him in there where now it's
going to set him back. And plus he's like everybody
(22:42):
kind of looks at it like it's got fran Tarkenton,
like he hasn't done anything yet. We don't want to
push him in, right, push him in when he's not
ready to go, because then he's kind of just fighting
for his life out there, and you're not able to
grow and progress and build up that he wants to build.
He goes, I got to do what's right for the
long term for this kid, not for the short term
of this for this team. And and he's you know,
(23:04):
these next couple of weeks, the long term of this kid,
it's a long term, you know, relationship they were hopefully
were going to be in here. So he's got to
do it for a long time. And I get that.
Speaker 4 (23:12):
And that's curiosity now because we watched wins get beaten
up today. Jay, Uh, that offensive line has been banged
up all years. I don't know how you how you
rush McCarthy back at this point then well there.
Speaker 3 (23:24):
The point is, it's not gonna be rossing now. That's
why they gave him all the time. They wanted to
make sure I had time. I know, even in the
bye week, he did a lot of work here with
coaches on his own, kind of volunteer to go and
do some stuff and they work with him, so he
could you know, he still has to pick up more
of the game, but he's a young guy who has
no experience, so there's a lot there they have to do.
But you know, their their plan all along was a
(23:48):
couple of weeks ago when JAJ came back. Their hope
is that Carson could be more than serviceable and you know,
wouldn't get hurt in these the last game, and that
the plan along was to start him last week and
in this game. Then they have the mini buy and
the kind of you know mini buys and you have
a whole weekend and then they can really you know,
see if they could ramp to j help come back
for the next game.
Speaker 1 (24:08):
That was the plan all well, now, Jay, I got
a hot take for you for the Chargers. You ready,
you're gonna love us? Okay, Now be Garrett for Mahomes
is having a great year, dak is having an incredible year.
But maybe Joe Alt is the NFL MVP. I mean,
just see maybe that injury that I mean, we haven't
talked about that enough. Do you talk about an injury
that just set a team with Super Bowl aspirations back?
(24:31):
And now you see tonight the impact thirty seven points
against the Vikings on a Thursday night.
Speaker 3 (24:37):
And have a running back. Go now, yo, for he's
been you know, they've been in the market for a
running back. Then they have found a guy. Two big
games for him over one hundred yards. But all it's
not just Salt, it was the whole line has been
banged up, right, Losing boat tackles has been massive for them. Uh,
and not have a consistency and they're reffect and things
like that. But yeah, having a guy that Joe Walt,
at least you got that guy in there. You have,
(24:59):
you know, as a quarterback, you're looking like, oh God,
I got somebody here archy count on. Okay if they
get to me, but yeah, I'll tell you what, what
Purpot's doing so well and a lot of these other
quarterbacks should start taking note. Is the way he is
running with it because he's not being careless. He's taken off,
he's running, he's finding these open teams, but he's keeping
(25:19):
himself out of harm's leg. He's got a really great
job with that.
Speaker 4 (25:23):
Yeah, for all the hits he's taken that he keeps going.
You've got now in that wide receiving corps. How dangerous
is this team overall?
Speaker 1 (25:30):
Jaye? What do you think?
Speaker 4 (25:32):
Say again, how dangerous do you think the Chargers are
in their current state?
Speaker 3 (25:37):
I think the Chargers looked, you know, they need to
get guys back from injury and listen, losing Derwin tonight.
I know the extent and I text him. I haven't
heard backs from yet. I know he's in walking boots.
That is a huge thing because that's the heart and
soul of your team, and that's it seems like every
time they want to move forward, they get a hit
with an injury that kind of sets them back. That
stuff that could Hopefully it doesn't for them, but yeah,
(25:59):
they have the talent to go with anybody without a doubt,
especially you know, they have to get their running game going.
They've gotten now in the last two weeks, so it'll
be you know, it'll be interesting to see how they
respond based on what stir Win situation is, but also
building off of this because when you see it tonight,
especially God, this wasn't just to get any defense. Is
(26:21):
a Brian Horas right, The way they were able to
go get after him, that's teams don't do that to them.
So this needs to be something that they build off of.
Speaker 1 (26:30):
All right, Jada, to take you outside of the game tonight,
Aaron Rodgers getting ready for the big quote revenge Aldo,
don't ask him that it's not a revenge game.
Speaker 3 (26:37):
It's it's definitely not.
Speaker 1 (26:40):
He said today that hey, he wants to retire a
Packer when it's all said and done. Hope we go back.
There are things cool with him in the Packers now
because it was two years of drama, Jamie's everyday drama
for a couple of years.
Speaker 3 (26:51):
No, no, no doubt there was. And but it's I
think caringto the place now. Like he said it, He's like, man,
everything great. The half of my life happened because I
played football for the Packers and yeah, I don't think
he has many resentments there now. I know he loves
playing the Pittsburgh he loves Arthur Smith, loves Mike Tomlin,
(27:13):
loves Arthur Smith. And I still think they've got to
figure out, you know, the ways that go over there.
You know in Pittsburgh too. It's like maybe you've always
had a worry about the offense number the defense. Now
it's kind of flipped and I would rather have it
that way. Okay, we finally have our offense or a
quarterback there, and defensively, Tomlink always helped jump in and
fix that defense, so it's kind of where you want it.
Speaker 1 (27:34):
This is great, though, Jay.
Speaker 4 (27:35):
I mean, look, I celebrated a birthday last week, and
Aaron Rodgers is now going to be like fifty before
he retires now.
Speaker 3 (27:41):
Right anyway, he's playing right now, let's tack out another twenty.
Speaker 4 (27:46):
As long as these guys keep going, I don't feel
so old.
Speaker 1 (27:49):
Do you think he plays another year? Like the pat
and the Steelers has said that it's I think.
Speaker 3 (27:53):
It's too early to tell. I really do. And you know,
I've never talking when we were turning this off season,
I'm like, hey, into his issue last year make sure
every stadium you're out, like say goodbye, do your own
little thing. And I didn't get an answer back like definitely, yeah, yeah, yeah,
definitely I'm out or anything like that for guys like
when I know they're done, it's pretty emphatic about it.
(28:13):
But I think I've told you the stories in the past.
These guys have been done. Tony and Alice, he was done.
He and now was sitting all of a sudden a
month later calling him back, and he calls me and say, hey, man,
you think Tviny and Thomas. It's Mike Smith and Thomas
Mitchel's head coach and gam and the Falcons. They had
me back for another year. Am I told them, what
are we doing here? And I can't retire, you know,
(28:33):
less than ten yards short of a Super Bowl, which
is what happened when they're playing Sam Prami NFC Championship game.
And we actually, I don't know if I've told the
story here. We told Mike Smith, the head coach of
the Falcons, out to Manhattan Beach to meet with me
and Tony and kind of go over with him and
Tony like Tony was like, hey, yay, you talk like
he's not confrontational at all, So talk to many about, Hey,
(28:56):
we want to do it, this is the way you
do it. It's first Minty's like, how do it? And
part of it was like Tony's not gonna Retamp. He's like, well,
how do I do that? Jave, tell all the other
players that you know, one guy's not gonna go to Stamp.
I said, it's pretty easy. You say, okay, guys, throw
a hands here, who's my fourteen Pro Bowls? Okay, to
the fourteen pro bles? You get the best chaff. He said,
he's not hard.
Speaker 1 (29:17):
Okay, So I mean, did that get you three percent?
Speaker 3 (29:20):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (29:20):
Did that get you three percent? Or just a couple
of free dinners from Gonzales?
Speaker 3 (29:23):
And come on, Tony's bought me enough direks for good.
Speaker 1 (29:27):
All right, let's go to Denver.
Speaker 4 (29:29):
Big win fourth quarter for the Ages against the Giants.
Speaker 1 (29:33):
But it's not about the game.
Speaker 3 (29:35):
Uh.
Speaker 4 (29:35):
The postgame comments from Sean Payton, it's awful hard not
to interpret it at face value in terms of the
Russell Wilson, though he tried to walk it back.
Speaker 1 (29:44):
What's say you?
Speaker 3 (29:46):
Okay, so listen, I know what he thinks of Russell.
What I heard the quote I actually thought he was
talking about Jackson Dart. I really did. I think Russell's
the first this thing from his mind. It really was,
I don't think. But they were talking about Jackson Dart
and they're defensively. They were worried and they're like, man,
this kid him in Scataboo and I was talking to him.
They're like, they got such an idea of and identity.
(30:08):
Now they believe they're different. So this is not me
covering for Sewan. Trusty. If I think he said it,
I'm like, oh, no doubt, and I have a lot
of fun I'd make fun of mine now. But the
way I heard it too, I heard it for Jackson.
Then I saw Russell say it, and I'm like, oh,
oh yeah, I can see that too. Yeah, and Trusty,
I think if Sean meant it as a shot at Russell,
(30:28):
I think Sean I want to shot back at him,
no doubt. We have never seen Sean Payton by this talk.
So I think if you really meant about Russell, he would,
but he would he would definitely shoot shoot Daggers at
at Russell over.
Speaker 1 (30:39):
But I really don't think it was Jay Lazer. He's
on Twitter at Jay Glazer. Jay, you want to say,
keep fighting the good fight. I know it's ADHD Awareness
Month and you're speaking up about your journey. Awesome stuff. Man,
what's something that's going on now?
Speaker 3 (30:53):
Oh? Man, No, what you know? I usually I finally
found a prescription that works for me for ADHD called Kilbury.
So I've been talking about this non stimulant. I taken
a night We'll always stimulants. I've taken this really not
work world for depression. Also, Tilbury's been huge for me.
It's it's yeah, it's pretty dame changes for I've never
thought I could take something to night because me down.
(31:13):
I guess we focused helps me next day on foxt
thevill Sunday.
Speaker 1 (31:17):
But it's been really great, Jez, keep fighting the good five,
my friend. We'll talk to you next week and enjoy
the weekend.
Speaker 4 (31:22):
Appreciate stopping down Bundy sockat great stuff there from Jay Glazer.
Speaker 1 (31:27):
Awesome stuff. I mean, look always is a great visit
with him. Uh, you know the thing to think about
just because Joe Alt it was such a big deal.
I means an offensive line. You don't spend a lot
of time, but you look so many teams building on
the offensive line. This is how Jim Harbaugh built the Chargers. Well,
but we talk about the line, the line more than most.
I mean, it's it's an obsession of mind, which you've
(31:48):
mocked for years. But I think you've come around to
see it and the line in high school and it's
my position. I was always a five to four offensive
lineman and I was tough as nails. I don't know
why it's got to be a pejority of the gain.
It's me.
Speaker 4 (32:00):
It's just the idea that without it we get what
we have. With Carson Wentz tonight, it was awful for
justin fields or in cert Jets quarterback here. You want
to do that, I'll turn it back on you. It's
not about me. It's about building blocks of a squad. Time,
not to find out what's trending in the wide world
of sports with someone who's been called the Quinton Johnston
(32:20):
of Fox Sports Radio Christ she didn't get a target tonight.
Speaker 2 (32:25):
Either.
Speaker 1 (32:26):
It's oh, you're right, you're right. We are both big
fat zeros.
Speaker 7 (32:30):
Okay, but I'm not getting paid to do that.
Speaker 2 (32:33):
Oh my poor fantasy.
Speaker 1 (32:35):
Team in friends? What was Monica's nickname when she played?
Speaker 2 (32:40):
That's sorry, big fat zero.
Speaker 1 (32:42):
From big fed Goalie. Yes, what does the TV guide
come to?
Speaker 2 (32:45):
It's Chanan Larbon.
Speaker 1 (32:48):
Come on, Rachel, use your head, miss.
Speaker 7 (32:51):
Right miss Chanano Larbam. Where does Chandler work?
Speaker 2 (32:57):
What does he do? A hes a? He's a transponster.
That's not even a word.
Speaker 1 (33:04):
I could go on for hours, you guys. It's my
favorite show.
Speaker 7 (33:07):
I have watched it over and over.
Speaker 1 (33:09):
And Rachel says, your favorite movie is this list, But it's.
Speaker 7 (33:13):
Really yeah, so good. That's one of the best episodes
for sure, the best Friends episode there is. It's my favorite,
but it's definitely top five for sure.
Speaker 3 (33:24):
For sure.
Speaker 2 (33:25):
We'll start in the NFL. Why not?
Speaker 7 (33:27):
As the Chargers crushed the Vikings thirty seven to ten
to kick off Week eight, Justin Herbert eighteen of twenty
five two hundred and twenty seven yards three touchdowns. He
did have an interception, but he also had seven carries
for sixty two yards on the ground. As you guys
talked about, Carson, Wentz struggled with his left shoulder, his
non throwing shoulder. Pretty much all game was seen on
(33:50):
the sideline win seen in pain throughout the first half.
Speaker 1 (33:53):
He continued to play into the fourth quarter.
Speaker 7 (33:56):
That's when Minnesota put in their rookie quarterback, Max Brosmer,
who is a rookie Minnesota Wentz ended fifteen of twenty
seven one hundred and forty four yards, a touchdown and
one interception. The NBA delivered a Fellas doubleheader. Both of
them went to overtime, first to his OKC and the
Indiana Pacers in a finals rematch, but OKC came out
(34:16):
on top one forty one to one thirty five in
double overtime. Shake Gildess Alexander dropped a new career high
fifty five points. He also had eight rebounds. Pascal Siakom
ended with the double double. He actually hit the shot
to force overtime for Indiana. They lose in double ot,
but he ended with the double double thirty two points
and fifteen rebounds. Steph Curry and Aaron Gordon put on
(34:38):
their own show as the Warriors defeated the Nuggets one
thirty seven to one thirty one, also in overtime.
Speaker 1 (34:44):
Curry hit a deep three.
Speaker 7 (34:46):
To tie the game in regulation for so T and
he ended with forty two points, six rebounds, and seven assists.
He made sixteen points in a row at one point
in the fourth quarter. Aaron Gordon was ten of eleven
from the three, ended with fifty ffty points and eight rebounds.
Nicola Jokic a triple double, obviously, and Jimmy Butler had
twenty one points for the Warriors. But we're getting close
(35:08):
to Game one of the World Series that's gonna start
at eight Eastern from Toronto on Friday, between the Blue
Jays and the Dodgers. Blake Snell is gonna be on
the mound for La and trey Ya Savage is gonna
be on the mound for Toronto. When it comes to
the NHL. The Duck's top the Bruins seven to five.
Boston has lost six in a row. Now the Mammoth
outscored the Blues seven and four. Utah has won five
(35:29):
in a row. The King's Edge of the Stars three
to two in overtime, and the Hurricanes beat the Avalanche
five four.
Speaker 1 (35:35):
In a shootout. And in case you missed Jean Whalers jerseys,
they won the night.
Speaker 7 (35:39):
Yeah, And in Casey misted it in soccer, guys Inner
Miami and Leo Messi have agreed to a contract extension
through twenty twenty eight, so he ain't going nowhere.
Speaker 2 (35:49):
He's gonna be playing until he's sixty.
Speaker 1 (35:52):
He's I mean, at this ray, at this Ray in
the MLS two, he'll be playing.
Speaker 7 (35:57):
Ye, go out there for ten minutes and hit the
game winner.
Speaker 2 (36:00):
That's all.
Speaker 7 (36:01):
They're gonna need to.
Speaker 1 (36:01):
Be seven cell tickets seventy fifth minute. You gotta think
Messi's coming in at some point soon.
Speaker 2 (36:05):
Exactly all of this.
Speaker 1 (36:08):
CEO wants thank you for the pizza. As pleasure, my pleasure.
We'll do it again soon. Appreciate it. Fox Sports Radio
The Jason Smithser with Mike Carmen. Yeah, next Thursday, you're
