Speaker 1 (00:29):
Hello, Welcome inside final Hour tonight the Jason Smith Show
with my bas.

Speaker 3 (00:34):
Friend Mike Harmon.

Speaker 4 (00:35):
Well dressed hobo.

Speaker 3 (00:36):
Hey.

up there of the team if there's any we can

(00:59):
believe in the AFC after last night's Bill's Texans game.
But speaking of belief, a big night finally you can
say on the court for the Dallas Mavericks. They got
to see eighteen year old Cooper Flag go for a
career high twenty nine points in their win over New Orleans.

(01:20):
We have big NBA stuff to get to. With a
guy joining us now in the hot line, nobody better
to chop it up with longtime NBA insider friend of
the show Mark Stein. He is on Twitter at the steinline.
That is at the steinline, Mark, congrats. I guess everybody
can take a breath for a night in Dallas after
Cooper flag Man.

Speaker 5 (01:40):
This better be important because I'm not even I thought
I was gonna get home in time before you guys
rang ran into some unexpected Friday night traffic, So I'm
like less than a minute away from getting home. You
guys knock some good music off the radio. This better
be pressing, pressing stuff to get into. I'm just telligenceday

(02:07):
night or way. I'm being honest, I'm vietnamed. Look today
it was a really I'm just I'm just playing. It
was a very interesting show because the MAVs and the
Pels are both teams mired in the mess that is
the bottom of the West, and to see both Cooper
flag and Derek Queen put on a show and honestly,

(02:31):
fears was great.

Speaker 4 (02:32):
Too.

Speaker 5 (02:32):
All the rookies were really good tonight. But I have
to say in both cases, like Cooper Flag. You know,
all the talk coming into the season was Cooper Flag
is so fortunate. We never see a rookie, we never
we never see a number one overall pick go to

(02:54):
a situation like this where he's got veterans and he's
got a team that's ready to win. What an advance
a situation this is going to be for Cooper Flag.
And the truth is, obviously, as you guys know, it
has been very rocky in Dallas. The Mavericks lead the
league in clutch games. This was only the fourth they've
won out of thirteen already. It has been far from advantageous.

(03:16):
But the thing I love about Cooper Flag is he
just keeps playing. He's had a bad shoulder, he's had
a bad thumb, his team has already fired. It's GM.
He's already up to three GMS in his career because
the MAVs currently have co interim gms, and the guy
just keeps playing. And same with Derek Queen, who's you know,

(03:37):
we focus on him for all kinds of reasons that
are beyond basketball because of the trade in which New
Orleans got him and they both were sensational tonight.

Speaker 6 (03:46):
Honestly, how's that co GM thing working? I mean, doesn't
Finley get a little bit of extra juice for having
to take the beer away from Luca?

Speaker 4 (03:55):
Oh?

Speaker 5 (03:56):
Come on, please tell me or not?

Speaker 4 (03:59):
You clearly you clearly don't read me? After I after
I it was within the last week or two I
wrote a long thing explaining what actually happened there.

Speaker 5 (04:08):
Did you know?

Speaker 4 (04:09):
Did you know that the beer was actually returned to
Luka Doncics once they were out of public view, once
they were back in. It was a complete It was
just it was not really a story. But that video
lives on and look at you guys still focused on it.

Speaker 3 (04:28):
After loves that story. I do love that story. Loves
that story. Mark, he loves it.

Speaker 6 (04:33):
Well, I mean, did pictures worth a billion words?

Speaker 4 (04:37):
But my car I thought Mike Harmon was an avid
reader of the signeline, but was just exposed as as
that is not the.

Speaker 6 (04:43):
Case, not not as in depthly in tune as as
I should be, So I should be flogged publicly for it.

Speaker 1 (04:51):
He had to watch, he had to watch the bulls
not show up on an NBA Cup night I'm really
disappointed about that, having a tough night, Right, that's true.

Speaker 4 (04:59):
Well, I would also say that's one of the few
times the Bulls have let you down this season, because
they've been a great surprise. I mean, how about how
about my guy Vooch with the game winner the other night. So, look,
can't win them all. You're gonna survive if they don't
go on a long cup run. I promise, I promise you'll.

Speaker 2 (05:17):
You'll rebound.

Speaker 3 (05:19):
All right.

Speaker 1 (05:19):
Now, you mentioned the Bulls, and tonight Oklahoma City beat Utah.
They were losing this game in the third quarter eighty
four eighty one, and they won one forty four to
one twelve.

Speaker 3 (05:31):
They have one loss on the season.

Speaker 1 (05:35):
Can they break the Bulls record of seventy two wins?

Speaker 3 (05:38):
Can they?

Speaker 1 (05:39):
I mean, this Oklahoma City team looks like nobody can
even can even an on a nightly basis mark, They
can't even get close to them.

Speaker 4 (05:45):
Well, first of all, I should point out that the
Warriors have already broken that record with seven.

Speaker 3 (05:49):
Well, so I met the Warriors.

Speaker 1 (05:50):
Sorry, I was Bulls with harm You just wanted to
make fun of me? Yeah, well I did because I
got harmon on the brain.

Speaker 4 (05:56):
Secondly, they can it. Really, it's quick to be up
to them as long as health cooperates. I mean, that
is the thing is, like, I think we've talked about
this before, but it's just, you know, Uston and Denver
have both gotten off to tremendous starts, and the Lakers,
to be honest, have gotten off to a great start

(06:19):
when you consider that they just got Lebron James back
and they had to survive fifteen games without him. But
you can talk about anyone you want in the West
and they've all got the same problem. The Oklahoma City
Thunder should be unbeaten. They should be undefeated at this point.
The game they lost, they outre founded and outshot Portland,

(06:42):
And this stat is not completely up to date, but
at the time it was furnished to me the Thunder
had won. They were like sixty four and one in
the previous sixty five games that they did out shooting,
out rebound the opponent. So it's like that even the
loss was a freak loss. We haven't seen Janelyn Williams yet.
I mean, it really is just a matter of do

(07:02):
I think they're going to do it? Do I think
they're going to go for it? No, I don't anticipate
that because we know the Thunder always operate with extreme
caution and you know, as methodically as possible in everything
they do. But can they do it? Do they have
the team to do it? Do they have the depth
to do it? Yeah? They do.

Speaker 6 (07:24):
And then we get the fun story out here in
Los Angeles with the Bus siblings dismissed from their jobs
as the Walter Group fully takes over more of the
Dodgers executives being involved day to day. But it just
seemed like this is the next push in the evolution
of the business. And congratulations on a job done from

(07:46):
the Bus family.

Speaker 4 (07:49):
Well coming. Look, when you take the totality of the ownership,
I mean, the family has been one of the most
successful in sports history. Obviously, over the last ten years,
we have seen various headlines that have revealed some contentious
stuff behind the scenes. And obviously, you guys are in
southern California. You're not far from Hollywood as you're speaking

(08:12):
to me. You guys love drama out there. We all
know it. But you know, is this more than you
know a day or two story. I mean, again, they
traded for Luka Doncic, which you know, I was, I
was talking to someone today in the league, and it's

(08:32):
just like it's almost ten months now. December December second
will be ten Yeah, that right, eight yeah, ten months.
December second is basically December one. December second is ten months.
And even next week, you know, next week the Mavericks
play the Lakers for the first time in the regular season.

(08:54):
Another NBA Cup game, Mavericks at Lakers next Friday, and
that's basically right around the two anniversary mark of the
Maverick sale to Patrick Dumont. So it's like, I'm again Luca.
You know, the Lakers are off to this great start,
Luca is in the heart of the MVP conversation, and
we've had ten months to get used to this thing,

(09:15):
and I still can't get.

Speaker 3 (09:16):
Used to it.

Speaker 4 (09:17):
So like, yeah, like again, this was this was a
big story for a day or two. But I would say,
you know, the Lakers, they've acquired Luka Dancic. That's the
hardest thing to do in the NBA is to get
the unquestioned franchise player. You know, Luka Dancic is whatever

(09:39):
you any way you want to analyze it. He is
one of the best four players in the world at
all times they have that nowt are the Lakers, who've
never had trouble attracting talent, going to gradually put the
right team around him as they gain flexibility. I would say, yes,
that is what I to happen. But the hardest part

(10:03):
they did the hardest part on February second.

Speaker 1 (10:07):
Well, maybe the second hardest part Mark Stein with us
here Fox Sports Radio is Lebron James's return, and it
went as well as you could possibly expect. Facilitator Lebron
James coach on the court. That was exactly what I
think people were hoping to see. Can this Lebron James continue?
Can he continue being this hey, I'm okay being the

(10:28):
maybe the third option at times behind Luca and Austin Reeves.
Are eventually Lebron's going to get back to being the
alpha because I think if this Lebron can stay boy,
all of a sudden, those Lakers title odds are going
way up. If this is Lebron, we get that can
affect the game so many ways.

Speaker 2 (10:44):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (10:45):
Look, I think when Lebron was out, he was excited
by what he saw. He saw Austin Reeves go to
another level and the Luca Austin reeves backcourt for any
issues you want to raise. Defensively, they have such a
high offensive ceiling. I think he's and you know, the
Lakers are at the forefront of what I said a
few minutes ago. They have a good thing going. If

(11:07):
Lebron can come back and more importantly, stay back, he's
you know, they need him. That was the concern because
obviously this is year twenty three, he's nearing his forty
first birthday. Can he stay back? I have no doubt
he can play like that. I mean, he's still such
a good player. The question, you know, the questions will
be can they can he? Will he stay back? Can

(11:27):
he avoid setbacks with the sciatica? But not just that.
It's like their problem is okay, see like if the
Lakers hit their ceiling, can they play with the thunder?
And it's and again it's not just the Lakers asking
that question, it's everybody. I mean, the Nuggets and the
Rockets have both been sensation. I mean, look at the Rockets.
We don't talk enough about the Rockets, who lost Fred

(11:51):
van Vliet in September at a team mini camp, and
they've had the number one offense in the league, without him,
without a recognized point guard. So I mean, Houston and
Denver have done everything you could have asked them to
do in the first twenty percent of the season to
establish themselves as contenders. And now the Lakers are getting
Lebron back, and you know what, everybody's looking up at

(12:12):
the thunder and that's that's the painful reality that all
these teams are facing.

Speaker 6 (12:17):
We talked a little bit. You got Luca we hit on. Okay,
see a bit sandwiched in the middle there of offensive leaders.
Tyrese Maxie at thirty three to four a game, a
full seven points better than a year ago and far
beyond previous best. And how good has he gotten? Is
this a short term front of the schedule kind of thing? Mark,

(12:40):
He's got to run.

Speaker 4 (12:42):
This is his team now, I mean they the sixers.
I mean that's the thing. In the West, some surprise
teams are on the limited side. You know, Phoenix has
been a great surprise than they were again tonight with
the way they beat Minnesota. But in the East we've
really had you know, Detroit to raw know your bulls.
But Philly's up there too with Embiid's limited availability and

(13:05):
just getting Paul George back. I mean, Tyrese Maxie has
been sensational, but it also just you know, the MVP
race is so tough to crack, and as you guys know,
we have not had an American born MVP since James
Harden all the way back in twenty eighteen. But as
I said, the four, if you ask league wide, who

(13:30):
are the four best players in the league, you will
get the same answer from thirty front offices in whatever
order you want to say. Jokic, Doncic, Antetokumpo, Bill, just Alexander,
those are the four best players in the league. We
haven't even mentioned Wenby yet who is emerging. So Maxie
and Caid Cunningham, who've both been absolutely sensational, and Kid

(13:53):
Cunningham another player and another team that we're not talking
about enough. But just how challenging it is for the
for Maxie, for Cunningham to burst into a conversation with
when you know, four of the top five spots are
those guys, and and uh, there's you know, there's a

(14:13):
lot of you know, the injury story is a massive one. Obviously,
what happens with the gambling stuff is a massive one.
But individual talent is not something the NBA is lacking.
In twenty twenty five, twenty six.

Speaker 1 (14:26):
He's on Twitter at the steinline. That is at the steinline.
Notice how smooth like Luca on a fast break. Mark
Stein segued from his car into his house to finish
the interview with us.

Speaker 4 (14:38):
Mark is always I'm actually, I'm actually, I'm actually, I'm
actually in my driveway. I haven't even gone into the
house yet. I'm pacing in the driveway.

Speaker 6 (14:46):
Oh, pacing. When will these guys shut up?

Speaker 3 (14:50):
No, as always, thanks for staying up lately.

Speaker 4 (14:53):
All my fault, I miss I miss tigned it all
my fault. See you guys next time.

Speaker 6 (14:57):
I appreciate mar.

Speaker 3 (14:58):
Thanks, We'll talk to you next week. Make it easy. Mark.
There goes Mark's side.

Speaker 1 (15:02):
I mean, look, the Tyresmaxi thing is so much fun
because we saw you and I talked about this the
end of last year. They're Tyres Maxi driven. And Joel
Embiid needs to become the one A to the one
we kind of forgot about. Option B, which is vij
Edgecombe comes in is really good and Joel Embiid doesn't play.

Speaker 6 (15:20):
Yeah, draft somebody and bring me bring it.

Speaker 1 (15:23):
Yeah, we forgot that Joel Embiid doesn't play part of it.
That could be he plays twenty minutes.

Speaker 3 (15:28):
Or doesn't play at all. That's how they figure out.

Speaker 6 (15:30):
Joel Embiid's were six games played twenty three minutes per
and about twenty points. Remember he famlessly said, if I'm
gonna do twenty minutes a night, what am I even doing? Uh,
you've gotten almost seventeen a game out of grimes off
the bench. Thus far Oubre has been good for them
edgecomb as you said, averaging about sixteen per and they
got six guys averaging fifteen or more points a night.

(15:53):
But Max, he's uh, just the kickup and watching his
evolution these last couple of years. Fifty five games played
last year and what he's done through the first fifteen
just incredible operational efficiency at its best.

Speaker 1 (16:07):
Exit out by a Fresca exit Swollendome. Great stuff as
always from Mark Stein. Coming up next, we're going to
finish the rest of the show with a big Football
Friday preview.

Speaker 3 (16:16):
We take a look at one of.

Speaker 1 (16:17):
The biggest games in the NFL and an NFL story
today that had me laughing out loud when I heard
what one superstar said. That's next right here, Jason and
Mike Fox Sports Radio. You you you.

Speaker 3 (16:33):
You're cool. You I'm out.

Speaker 2 (16:37):

Speaker 7 (16:48):
Hey, we're Cavino and Rich Fox Sports Radio every day
five to seven pm Eastern.

Speaker 3 (16:53):
But here's the thing.

Speaker 2 (16:53):
We never have enough time to get to everything we
want to get.

Speaker 7 (16:56):
To, and that's why we have a brand new podcast
called over Promised. You see, we're having so much fun
in our two hour show. We never get to everything, honestly,
because this guy is over promising things we never have
time for.

Speaker 2 (17:09):
Yeah, you blubber list en me.

Speaker 3 (17:11):
Well, you know what it's called over promise. You should
be good at it because you've been over promising women
for years.

Speaker 7 (17:15):
Well, it's a Covino and Rich after show, and we
want you to be a part of it. We're gonna
be talking sports, of course, but we're also gonna talk
life and relationships. And if Rich and I are arguing
about something or we didn't have enough time, it will
continue on our after show called over Promised. Well, if
you don't get enough Covino and Rich make sure you
check out Over Promised and also Uncensored, by the way,
so maybe we'll go at it.

Speaker 3 (17:35):
Even a little harder.

Speaker 2 (17:36):
It's gonna be the best after show podcast of all time.

Speaker 7 (17:39):
There you go, over Promising. Remember you could see on YouTube,
but definitely join us. Listen Over Promised with Coavino and
Rich on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts or wherever you
get your podcasts.

Speaker 1 (17:55):
Fox Sports Radio, The Jason Smith Show with my best
friend Mike Harmon's.

Speaker 3 (18:05):
I mean, unless you're a Bulls.

Speaker 1 (18:06):
Fan because you lost by fifty the balls, well, hey,
it only counts as one.

Speaker 6 (18:12):
I mean it hurts you in the cup standings. I
know that that's a that's a killer.

Speaker 3 (18:17):
Well that's what they did.

Speaker 1 (18:18):
Hey, teams, run it up, man, you gotta you gotta
get that margin.

Speaker 3 (18:20):
Of victory up. It's an NBA Cup night. It is
not for the fate of art and Friday nights.

Speaker 6 (18:25):
And as much as you know I'm excited about some
of the strides, they're still an eight and seventeen, so
like they're they're running away and hiding with anything here. So,
you know, tempered expectations that have the other feel good
story in the city with the with the Bears, so
you know, things running concurrently. And now the Blackhawks released
those sweet alternate black sweaters that sold out immediately. There's

(18:47):
a lot of good going on there.

Speaker 1 (18:49):
No, hey, hey, you're happy man, You're you are safely
in the playing round right now.

Speaker 3 (18:54):
Yeah, let's go eh you're there.

Speaker 1 (18:57):
Uh now, Football Friday continue on here through the rest
of the show. And I got to say, I laughed
out loud when I saw this story and heard this
star say this today. So ahead of the Colts Chiefs
game on Sunday, where the biggest games in the NFL,
we'll give you our picks.

Speaker 3 (19:16):
For that coming up in a couple of minutes.

Speaker 1 (19:19):
Travis Kelcey addressed the big R word when it comes
to retirement. He said he's gonna wait until after this
year to make a decision. On twenty twenty six, here
he is. Take a listen to Travis Kelcey explaining his decision.
But the best part is at the end when he's

(19:39):
asked about, hey, do you want a retirement tour?

Speaker 3 (19:42):
Take a listen.

Speaker 8 (19:43):
You know, seeing my brother go through it and seeing
I don't know just how the league works. You know,
the season kind of restarts in April, and I want
to give the Chiefs a good opportunity to, you know,
whether I come back or not, and vice versa, like
whether they want me back or not. It's one of
those things where I'd like to make that decision before

(20:03):
they got to get draft picks and the free agency open,
so that gives them an opportunity to go out there
and fill the roster appropriately. So all that will be
at the end of the season and I won't be
thinking about it until then. On that note, would you rather,
you know, like go because some guys want to do
like the Kobe Tour.

Speaker 4 (20:21):
Right.

Speaker 8 (20:24):
I love Kobe, man, I love Kobe, I love I
love everything about him. Man, But that's not me. I'd
like to take it day by day, year by year
and and just evaluated like that.

Speaker 3 (20:35):
Yeah, that was the part I laughed out loud about.
Oh that's not me.

Speaker 1 (20:39):
So let's see catching Kelsey his own show, his own
reality show on eight.

Speaker 6 (20:44):
Yeah, that's when we met him all those years ago.

Speaker 1 (20:46):
Yeah, I look, and I love Travis Kelcey right, Like
like I said, I love Kebe, I love Travis Kelsey.
We knew at the Super Bowl about seven years ago
we met him. He's going to be a big media star.
He was fun, he liked chopping it up, he told
great stories. We knew he was going to be the
next the next coming, and that was right before Catching
Kelsey started, right.

Speaker 6 (21:06):
So he was there to promote.

Speaker 3 (21:09):
But he's a retirement tour.

Speaker 1 (21:10):
I'm not that guy Catching Kelsey hosting Saturday Night Live,
executive producing and acting in TV movies, the New Heights podcast,
which he makes news on every week, and every commercial
possible on television, including Dix McDonald's, Nike, Papa John's, bud Light,

(21:32):
Old Spice, Walgreens, Pfizer, Direct TV Experience, Lowe's Campbell Soup.
Uh No, you absolutely are that guy, Travis Kelsey and
that little relationships.

Speaker 5 (21:45):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (21:45):
Oh, by the way, the tiny little bit of the whole,
the whole Taylor Swift thing.

Speaker 3 (21:50):
You are absolutely that guy.

Speaker 1 (21:52):
Now, I don't want to say that he went for
Taylor Swift because she's famous. That's why I wanted to,
you know, capetalize this here a bit. But he is
dadd the most pop the woman in the world, and
he loves the attention and.

Speaker 3 (22:03):
He seeks it out.

Speaker 1 (22:04):
Dude, you are absolutely that guy that wants to. I
don't know if maybe he was just saying, Okay, I
really do want a farewell retirement tour, but I don't
want to say I want it because it sounds that
sounds really bad. I sound really elitist and full of
myself if I say that. So I'm gonna say no,
I don't want that.

Speaker 3 (22:19):
That's not me. Dude.

Speaker 1 (22:20):
Look at your career. Look at the last seven eight
years of your life. That's absolutely that's you, up and down.
That's you every single day of the week. Man, come
on with I'm not that guy.

Speaker 5 (22:31):
No.

Speaker 6 (22:31):
The best of that is that it now becomes the
bidding war between all of those sponsors and partners that
he has to Who wants to pony up the money
to sponsor said retirement farewell tour. Who comes up with
the best, best chotchkes and everything else. Look, and part
of this is, obviously there's still very much alive, as

(22:53):
much as they've struggled. We talked about it five losses
by a total of twenty two points the AFC. It's
YouTube video at Jason Smith's show that went up yesterday,
just talking about in the AFC, who do you trust
who do you believe in? Who scares you? And the
answer is nobody. Spoiler, but great discussion as we went

(23:15):
through it. But you know, for those with us here
on a Friday into Saturday morning, like the Chiefs until
they're officially declared dead, it's like, hey, can we reboot
this series, this franchise for an eighth installment? Yeah, all right,
it's not dead. It made enough money. We were in
the black on it. Yeah, go ahead. That's where Kelsey

(23:37):
and the Chiefs are at this moment heading into this
weekend's game.

Speaker 1 (23:40):
I mean, I mean, come on, man, I'm not that guy.
I've got that guy. No, you are every bit that guy.
You are every bit that year.

Speaker 6 (23:46):
I want to see Jason's response to that on camera.

Speaker 1 (23:51):
That's my brother. He doesn't he want anything about the fame.
As we talk here on a podcast, we get paid
thirty million dollars a year.

Speaker 3 (23:57):
To do right now, He's not about that.

Speaker 1 (23:59):
He's not at that life now, you would think for
this game Colts and the Chiefs.

Speaker 3 (24:03):
Oh, Jason, ah, you know you hate the Chiefs.

Speaker 9 (24:05):
Nah.

Speaker 1 (24:06):
I've just been your Kansas City Chiefs whisperer all year long.
I told you this is exactly what they're going to be.
It's stock up Mahomes. Stock down on the Chiefs. Why
Mahomes with the good enough weapons around him and after
the last two years of being a game manager, he's
going to have a big year. And he is right
top of the MVP race again, number one, number two

(24:27):
fantasy quarterback depending on how your stats go in your league.
He's been that good. But stock down on the Chiefs because, yeah,
they're getting older and they're getting surpassed by the younger,
more athletic, deeper teams. Right, that's what's going on with
the Chiefs. And here they are at five and five,
right exactly where I said they were. They were going
to struggle to make the playoffs because other younger teams

(24:49):
are improving and they're better than they are now. The
thing is this week, I like the Chiefs. It's a
big game for them. They simply are the more desperate team,
and for a team with a championship pedigree of the Chiefs,
when they know they're desperate. Kelse even talked about it
earlier this week on his podcast. Hey, we got to
put everything aside and put ourselfish just aside. We got

(25:12):
to come out and win. They are the more desperate team.
It's been a great run for the Colts, and the
Colts are terrific, but at five and five, they know
they maybe can afford one more loss, maybe too the
rest of the way. When you're a five hundred team,
you're saying only two more loss rest away. That's a
big thing. They are the more desperate team. They are
playing at home. There'll be a lot of points. I

(25:34):
like the over, but this is one of those games
where the Chiefs find a way to win, you know,
maybe extra roughing, the passer penalty.

Speaker 6 (25:41):
Look what you did.

Speaker 1 (25:42):
They find a way to win a Butcker field goal
of ma Homes drive at the end. Again, tons of points.
I love the points, but the fact that Daniel Jones
is dinged up a little bit. You don't know what
his status is. A midweek practice injury likely has them
on the injured list for a little bit for this weekend.
I expect them to play, but you never know how
health he is.

Speaker 4 (26:00):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (26:01):
This is a game the Chiefs pull out and they
win to get to six and five, and now Monday,
everybody's gonna say, oh, there they are.

Speaker 3 (26:05):
They beat the team of the best record of the AFC.

Speaker 1 (26:07):
The Chiefs are back to Now the Chiefs will simply
be six and five and still struggling for the playoffs.

Speaker 6 (26:11):
Chiefs a three point favorite, fifty as you're over under
right now. Uh, we did see it last night and
it trickled into the morning. Remember when Adrian Hill, the
NFL referee, left Thursday Night football with the injury.

Speaker 3 (26:24):
And the non contact injury. Yeah, alright, well.

Speaker 6 (26:27):
He avoided a major injury. But I saw him attributed
Chief Star avoids major injury. Was trending on the interwebs.
Yeah no, he'll play certainly there. But you know the
point that that Jones is dealing with an injury. It's
a big deal coming out of a bye week. Look,

(26:49):
I expect with the new insertions on defense, an extra
week and a half of meetings, that the Colts defense
will be game. They had some issue in the secondary
addressed at the deadline and everything, but this is one
to the desperation mode that comes into play now. Rashid

(27:09):
Rice another week, Keep waiting for heroics. They haven't really
seen it except for those first two weeks. That's normalized
a bit. The run game remains sporadic, whether it's Pacheco
or Kareem Hunt or Bushard Smith. You're not seeing continuity
there in the offensive line. We highlighted some of the
stats a little bit earlier in the show to where

(27:30):
you're talking about the fourth most pressures in the NFL,
number one, far and away obviously justin Herbert, but for
Patrick Mahomes, there's not a whole lot of set your
feet and deliver the ball. Go figure. That's exactly what
we were talking about with Josh Allen a bunch last night,
right that you're not getting that extra beat to look
down field and set up and work on timing, and

(27:53):
that'll be key here. But looking for that Chiefs defense
no slouch themselves to handle the Indie high powered offense
and get a much needed win at home. Nothing else
is an extra storyline for the back end. Folks can
get excitable as you say and say, hey they're back. No,
it's a win, one of many they'll need to string

(28:15):
up if they want to play meaningful football. In January.

Speaker 1 (28:18):
We got more football coming up in ninety seconds, including
a big upset pick. But first let's find out what's
trending from a guy who's been called the Andy Reid
of Fox Sports Radio. If you go out to eat
fast food with him, he will steal your nuggies. It's
Steve de Seger, big Cheezburgers fan.

Speaker 6 (28:35):
I think that's all we have in common.

Speaker 9 (28:37):
I'm just guessing he's had a couple more than I
have in my life. The late game in the NHL
went to Boston in overtime in LA two to one. Earlier,
Minnesota with a shutout five nothing win at Pittsburgh Buffalo
nine three over Chicago, and Carolina was a four to
three winner at Winnipeg. The Jets MVP goalie Connor Hellibook
will have knee surgerysetter and then miss four to six weeks.

(29:00):
The Lake College football game there were two tonight is
on FS one and with about five minutes to go
at UNLV, It's now Rebels thirty eight to ten over Hawaii.
UNLV ready to go to nine and two on the season.
NC State beat Florida State twenty one to eleven seminoles
with four turnovers. They missed a couple of field goal attempts.
Florida State two and six in the acc old miss

(29:23):
as an announcement on the future of coach Lane Kiffin
will come in about a week after the rivalry game
at Mississippi State. Virginia Tech's new contract with James Franklin
exapenn State is for five years and more than forty
million dollars. Texas A and M gave athletic director trev
Alberts a six year extension. The Detroit Lions star tight
end Sam Laporta is likely out for the year after

(29:45):
back surgery. Quarterback rookie for the Giants, Jackson Dart is
still out with a concussion, so Jameis Winston will start
again at Detroit. Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow is questionable. He's
still on IR with a toe injury. The Broncos gave
kicker Will LUTs a three year extension. Packers running back
Josh Jacobs is questionable. He was limited in practice today
with a knee injury, but Colts quarterback Daniel Jones practice

(30:07):
fully and will play Sunday against Kansas City and the
forty nine Ers are increasingly frustrated with injured wide receiver
Brandon Ayuk, according to the Athletic that he reportedly missed
some meetings and did not communicate well to the NBA.
Late game, Portland wins at Golden State one twenty seven,
one twenty three despite thirty eight points from Steph Curry.

(30:28):
Oklahoma City is sixteen to one after dominating the second
half at Utah one forty four to one twelve. The
final thundershot sixty one percent from the floor for the game.
Shake iljis Alexander with another thirty one points. Denver got
thirty four from Nikola jokicen a three point win at
Houston won twelve one oh nine. Phoenix over Minnesota one fourteen,

(30:49):
one thirteen despite forty one points from Anthony Edwards on
the winning side for the Suns, Devin Booker was four
of eighteen shooting from the floor, tenn assist nine turnovers.
Dallas edge New Orleans one eighteen one fifteen New Orleans
Pelicans two and fourteen. Easy wins for Miami and for Toronto,
which shripped Washington Washington one and fourteen. Cleveland over Indiana

(31:13):
Pacers two and fourteen. Brooklyn was two and twelve but
got to win at Boston one thirteen one oh five.
A triple double for Nick Claxton and men's college hoops
number one Perdue all over fifteenth ranked Texas Tech in
the Bahamas eighty six fifty six wins for Louisville and
BYU women's number one Connecticut beat number six Michigan on
Fox TV tonight, seventy two sixty nine Notre Dame edge

(31:36):
USC on a late bess get sixty one fifty nine.

Speaker 6 (31:38):
Back to You, Thank you, Steve O.

Speaker 1 (31:41):
The biggest game in college football tomorrow, USC and Oregon
all sorts of college football playoff, Big Time Playoff implications.
USC could clint basically clinch a spot in the playoff
with a win, although it would be on on brand
for USC to win and then lose the next week
to Jerry new heisl and UCLA and they carry new

(32:02):
hisel off the field again. And look, Oregon would be
in trouble with a loss. You know they can basically
clinch a spot if with a win it's a ten
point spread. And but I gotta be honest, I got
a feeling you are gonna see US's best game of
the year tomorrow. I feel like they've been building to
this game for a while, Like and Lincoln Riley needs

(32:25):
a big signature win with US because he doesn't have
it yet. This team is really good, right, They've beaten
some teams that are talented that aren't great, but hey,
beating Michigan, Michigan is still pretty good.

Speaker 3 (32:37):
Iowa is still pretty good. They won these games. Yes,
they won the road, and they lost a couple of games.

Speaker 1 (32:41):
Not saying us he's perfect, but Oregon had trouble with
Indiana's offense, and USC's offense is really good. My ivor
is really good. They have they have playmakers at wide receiver,
at running back. I know it's on the road, but
USC just has to survive the crowd in the first
quarter of this game. And this is where Lincoln Riley.

(33:02):
People go back in on Lincoln Riley and on Monday
they're saying he just needed time to get his guys
in and it wasn't odds that's the time to figure
out the nil party out of that. But something tells me,
I got a gut feeling we're gonna get USC's best
game tomorrow and it's gonna be the biggest win of
Lincoln Riley's USC career. Look at you nine and a
half the total right or out to ten in some spots,

(33:25):
but looking at two teams that score at will Oregon
plus twenty three scoring differential, USC about seventeen. I think
the hard part here is stopping the Oregon running attack
averaging about six point three yards per carry, and I
think that's the difference here worn down road games, and
this is where Lincoln Riley struggled. He got the wins

(33:47):
over what Nebraska Purdue. They're not good so two and
six against on the road outside of California since last year.
I think it's a tough spot and they'll keep it
closed good enough offensively to do some damage, but they
take the l and then we do a lot of
hand ringing as to the future of Lincoln Riley once again.

Speaker 3 (34:09):
Oh you day sayer, you non believer. You wait and
see where do you going?

Speaker 6 (34:14):
Deon sanders on me?

Speaker 3 (34:16):
Yeah, you wait and see.

Speaker 6 (34:19):
How'd that work out for him?

Speaker 3 (34:21):
Exit up out of Fresca, Exit Swollen Dome.

Speaker 1 (34:24):
Jason Smith Mike Harmon live from the Fox Sports Radio Studios.

Speaker 3 (34:27):
Coming up next, we take a.

Speaker 1 (34:29):
Look at two of the biggest games in the NFL
this weekend. Helping us Out'll be in elementary school. Yay,
that's next, Jason and Mike Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 2 (34:39):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific, Fox.

Speaker 1 (34:47):
Sports Radio The Jason Smith Show with my best friend
Mike Harmon, finishing our show to them out of a
football Friday with a flourish two big games to look
at at one via the help of Philadelphia Elementary School
yay uh in a story that is straight out of

(35:08):
habit Elementary uh a viral video the last twenty four
hours of a school it's it's Cowboys week, so you know,
Philadelphia is absolutely insane for this game.

Speaker 3 (35:19):
Uh. Video of elementary.

Speaker 2 (35:21):
School kids punching big.

Speaker 1 (35:24):
Photos that are put up in the hallways of Dallas
Cowboy players. Now they're kind of put up on like
punching bags and stuff, so the so the kids can
punch them and and and and not get hurt. But
you see, like there's big pictures of Ceede Lamb and
Dak Prescott and the the reporter is there trying to
interview the kids.

Speaker 3 (35:42):
The kids are just punching these things. This is so
on brand for Philadelphia.

Speaker 6 (35:48):
This is like the oversized bot bags that you had
that had like Bozo the Clown or Batman as a kid. Yeah,
on punching bags and giant blown up I want to
know how much those photos cost A blow. That's a
good bit man.

Speaker 3 (36:02):
Yeah, no, no, it is. I mean they uh you know,
they they went to town on it.

Speaker 1 (36:06):
There was there were no kids that weren't like sort
of but no, they were all punching dacks.

Speaker 6 (36:10):
Frustrations going. I'm sure plenty of folks started doing the
armchair psychology of what the hell is going on here?

Speaker 3 (36:19):
I really was waiting for Dak.

Speaker 1 (36:21):
I was waiting for Janelle James to come walking through
the hallway of saying something or filming a TikTok video.

Speaker 3 (36:26):
Really, I was really waiting for that. We partnered with
a local fitness and they pay us.

Speaker 1 (36:32):
But uh, look two teams dealing with all sorts of
controversy and dysfunction. Jerry Jones even was asked about the
Eagles dysfunction earlier this week and he said, yeah, give
me some of that because the Eagles are thriving in it.

Speaker 3 (36:45):
Yeah, if you're gonna level sure, Uh yes, it's in Dallas.

Speaker 1 (36:50):
I know Dallas is feeling pretty good about themselves getting
back in after but you beat the Raiders, I mean
it's the Raiders, uh, the Eagles. I would expect a
bit of a bounce coming off of last week's game
against the Lines, where their defense showed up and they said, yeah,
we're a super Bowl caliber defense again, just in case
you forgot, you'd expect to bounce, but not Cowboys week.

Speaker 3 (37:10):
It's gonna be a rough game for Dallas Philadelphia.

Speaker 1 (37:13):
Philadelphia win this by forty because the more controversial the
week gets, the better they play. Oh, no one likes
Jalen Hurts. Now I'm gonna throw for three hundred yards
and three touchdowns. You don't like how I play, I'll
deliver you guys the football. I'll get you guys the
ball the week you all say that I'm doing my
own thing. Let's see, it'll gonna be a rough week
for Dallas. They won't do what they think they can
do offensively, and the Eagles can sit back and say, yeah,

(37:36):
we can basically clinch the NFC East this week. It'll
be a four game league basically on the Cowboys. If
we win with five left, yeah, give me the Eagles
big in this game.

Speaker 6 (37:45):
Go all the way back to what Week one, twenty
four to twenty youth final, No Jalen Carter, So you
got a little bit more run from Javonte Williams that
gets swallowed up. Their top ten defense in terms of
scoring defense. You know, the only thing that matters. You
can keep your yardage thing. Uh, let me let me
know how many points everybody gives up when it's all

(38:05):
said and done. This Eagles squad, you know, whether it's
Brown or DeVante, Smith or Goddard, they're gonna feast. Saquon
Barkley's sitting over there. Hey, aj Brown called me out
kinda sorta he wants some of the deflection. So I'm
gonna go up and put up some points and some numbers.
And Dallas's defense expected to be better than what it

(38:27):
was a couple of weeks ago. But you know, anybody
trying to do a massive evaluation off of beating the Raiders,
come on, man, what are we doing elsewhere?

Speaker 1 (38:37):
None of the other big games of the week. Two
teams that are really good going in opposite directions, the
Bucks and the Rams. All Right, the Bucks, it's a
rough spot in the schedule and the injuries are catching
up to them. They made it work for a long time,
but as we saw, the guy they've missed the most,
even though they're getting decent production. Sean Tucker Hand a
big game out of the backfield. Yeah, they're missing Bucky

(39:01):
Irving and what he does in the passing game, because
that's Baker mayfields, that's his security blanket. You see the
games he's able to drive them down to game winning
scores earlier this year, Lots of plays to Bucky Irving.
Now it's gonna help. They're getting Chris Godwin back in theory,
they get him back this week. Everything is trending well,
but a lot of injuries, and the Rams are just

(39:22):
a better team. Their defense is terrific. It's a top
three NFL defense and they're playing at home. This is
gonna be a Rams win. They go to nine and
two and suddenly it's gonna be Rams Eagles, Rams Eagles.
We're talking about for home field advantage, and that Eagles
win over the Rams is gonna be a big thing.
But I do like better days ahead for the Bucks.

(39:43):
I know they're coming back to the pack a little
bit here, but it's a rough patch in the schedule.
They're still the best team in the South. They'll get
it going the last month plus of the season. I
still feel good about the Bucks, just not Sunday against
the Ram.

Speaker 6 (39:54):
Yeah, I wan'll be fun to watch with the Buccaneers
down the stretches that they get that I'm sorry Road
Dolphin's home game, so you get two games against Carolina
in the final three weeks. So that'll be interesting potentially
for the division when it's all said and done. But
you know, outside of Abuca trying to find consistency, you
haven't had it in the passing game these last the

(40:16):
last month, Mayfield has struggled not having that safety valve
as you mentioned, with Bucky Irving as good as Tucker,
as good as Rashaan White's been in spots, the attrition
in the receiving corps has been amens and defensively they
can get gashed and that's where Matthew Stafford company carve
them up in a big Sunday night affair.

Speaker 3 (40:38):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (40:38):
I mean, look, the Rams have gone absolutely opposite of
where they were the last three years, which is we
started out great, which they need to because they want
to play that. They don't want to go to Philadelphia
in late January. They want Philadelphia to come to LA
in late January. They are focused, they are ready. Look,
there's a reason why I think the Rams are the
best team in football. They're showing it.

Speaker 3 (40:59):
The continue to show it and watch out because of
all the teams to believe in, zero of them are
in the AFC. They are all in the NF.

Speaker 6 (41:08):
Just don't let it come down to kickers and the
Rams will be just fine.

Speaker 1 (41:11):
Even the first place Bears will win again this week
and prove that, Hey, I was right what I told you.
The era of good feeling is here. Mike Harmon doesn't
mean I don't have to take a Toms every week.

Speaker 3 (41:23):
No, for Mike, I'm Jason. It's F and A on FSR.
