Speaker 2 (00:23):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 1 (00:29):
Greetings, Welcome inside hour two The Jason Smith Show with
my bes friend Mike Harmon.

Speaker 3 (00:36):
I'm an ass man.

Speaker 1 (00:38):
It's over mercifully, so not a Monday night football game
that we're gonna write home about and say, man, I
remember I was there the night the Niners beat the
Panthers twenty to nine. Yay. It's one of two seventy two,
am right, partner of our run of not the greatest
nationally televised games during the week. It's not great, Bob,

(00:59):
Weekends been great either, Bob. No, well, yeah, but at
least we're getting big games. We had big comebacks yesterday.

Speaker 2 (01:04):
But no, no, no, no, no, I'm saying the primetime games.

Speaker 1 (01:07):
Yeah, well yeah, but at least like that on you
got to go to bed early ahead of your holiday
holiday holiday Monday. But that's the thing is because you
have the other games on Sunday that are good. If
the night games no good, Hey, I feel like it's okay.
I can get ahead on other things. I can get
ahead on work for the week. I get ahead on laundry,
I could do whatever I want to do. When it's
a standalone game and it stinks out, it's kind of tough.

Speaker 4 (01:27):
No, it's tough one, but it does run a record.
And I ran this up by the guys because they
showed the graphic. This is now seventy three straight games
that the Panthers have lost when trailing by seven or
more going into the fourth quarter.

Speaker 3 (01:41):
Seventy two straight. I want to know who's for seventy
three tonight.

Speaker 1 (01:45):
Who thought it was a great idea week twelve to
put the Panthers on Monday night foot. I mean, they
were six and five, buddy, But you were lucky. You
were lucky, and they were a boring six and five, right,
Not the was gonna rise up, but like the in
the off season, like who says, you know, we gotta
have back to back, we gotta have the Jets on
it and like week eleven and we gotta have the
Panthers on week twelve. Yeah, we need to like who who?

(02:06):
Who did that? Who thinks that's a good idea?

Speaker 3 (02:08):
Is there's one of those where you've got to risk
a grid.

Speaker 4 (02:11):
And while they don't state that they've got a minimum
of primetime games, the teams have to be on that.
You're kind of foisting the Panthers on the nation because
you got four games that are isolated later on this week.
Right Like when we when we talk about the grid
and the way it works out, it's like, all right,
well we got them, so we can't have them back
on Thursday and Friday. So that's taking eight teams off

(02:33):
the board right away and then you start moving from there.
But yeah, Panthers in primetime. At least we got to
see tenorro and McMillan find a touchdown after Bryce Young
had what twenty eight yards after the first half.

Speaker 1 (02:46):
I mean, it's gotta be easy, Like, AI can do
the schedule now in a second. Oh okay, we have
too many teams here. Okay, we'll do this. We'll do this,
and really you can you can figure this out. Hey,
AI put the good teams in the best. Okay, great,
we're gonna have this team. We're not gonna the New
York Jets play Week eleven. We're got the Jets play
opening week on Thursday night to get them out of
the way while there's all kinds of excitement. That's what

(03:07):
we're gonna do. I really, with the way the advance
of technology now, like you could have the schedule done
in in like four minutes.

Speaker 4 (03:15):
You can a bunch of that, right, and then is
the mileage and and trying to equalize that and go
on down the line.

Speaker 3 (03:23):
Yeah, I'm sure, I'm sure you could do that.

Speaker 4 (03:25):
I mean it would cost some people their jobs that
probably get some pretty good perks with the NFL, So
I think they'd be a little pissed off.

Speaker 1 (03:32):
Well this game, right, Okay, so despite the fact you
had the Panthers playing on Monday night football, okay, great, Uh,
the Niners go to seven and four, and not only
am I not believing in the Niners, they're starting to
it's starting to piss me off that there these wins
and how good that the Niners aren't any good the Niners.
And this in a year where no NFL team outside

(03:54):
of the Rams has shown that we're really really good,
and we can we're trustworthy every week. Like the Niners
and the Steelers, these teams are not good. The Niners
are not good, man, They're just not They're not. Yes,
they're seven and four, and I look at their upcoming
schedule and I go, great, they're gonna win a couple
more games and they're gonna think they're really good. Boy,
that's great, right, Like they've beaten the Saints, they beat

(04:16):
in Arizona, they lost to Jacksonville, right, they they beat
the Rams, Okay, that's great, But they've been hanging their
whole season on beating the Rams, right they you know,
they beat the Giants, they beat the Cardinals twice. They're
just not good man. And and they get the Browns
coming up in Tennessee the next day.

Speaker 3 (04:31):
They're up to eight wins. I mean, that's all that matters.
This is no.

Speaker 1 (04:35):
It's not beatos on your schedule on circumstance dates that
you know folks killed Brady. It's like they went one
titles no on the backs of your crappy team. I
want people to do the right thing and say, hey,
the San Francisco forty nine ers eight and four, but
who are not really that good.

Speaker 3 (04:53):
Yeah, we can't say everybody stinks.

Speaker 1 (04:55):
That's how you have to say about the Niners, because
they're not. You can sell other teams be it better,
but the night has been overrated from the beginning. But
the blood of those other teams with better records, you
can't sell.

Speaker 3 (05:06):
Trying to talk about the Patriots.

Speaker 4 (05:08):
What's the winning percentage of the team's at three sixty?

Speaker 1 (05:13):
All those teams stink, right, den, I mean they're they're
not exciting. Sean Payton may come and fight me. I
don't care. They've won games, laid my bears. They win
another one. Come on, The Bears are exciting, man, the
Bears every winning. No, No, they're just good and exciting. Okay,
exciting nuts doesn't taking years off my life. Tell me,

(05:37):
don't tell me. You're pissed off, but you're in first place.

Speaker 3 (05:40):
I am.

Speaker 1 (05:43):
No, you're just inferring based on me, trying to get
loud the effect to make it. You're making up. You're
used to here. Here's why I know what's happening. You're
used to this time every year, cutting bait on the
Bears and understanding that boy, they're terrible. This is not
our year. And it's never gonna turn and around. So
here you are a very familiar part of the calendar,
getting close to Thanksgiving. It's time to really complain about

(06:05):
the bear season and what's next. And we fire eber Flus,
we fire Lovey. But I mean understand, buddy, you're eight
and three. You're in first place the NFC. Nor we're
gonna go on the number one seed after they beat
Philly on predet. Come on, I'm all about positivity, the
year of living dangerously, the oddity of possession to possession. Look,

(06:26):
you had some defensive breakdowns by the Steelers that were
absolutely unconscionable. The fact that DJ Moore was what that
wide open across the middle you can see Caleb Blake?

Speaker 3 (06:36):
Is that?

Speaker 4 (06:37):
Am I seeing this right? Anybody want to give me
a second opinion? Is this actually happening downfield? H Now
that that you know TJ. Watt play, we'd love to
forget that along the way, But you know, when you
when you get down to it, yeah, it's exciting. I'm
counting all those wins and I'm celebrating every one of them,
and that's all we should do every day.

Speaker 1 (06:57):
But you were upset right away.

Speaker 3 (06:58):
You don't you default is not I'm upset.

Speaker 1 (07:01):
Yes, you were tried me nuts and look at that.
They're eight and three. They're winning games. They're winning games.

Speaker 4 (07:06):
I'd like that, but I'd like to have a win
that for you know, is a pillar to post kind
of win once in a while.

Speaker 1 (07:11):
But he just take a win. Okay, it's the Bear,
it's the bar. I take a win, no matter how
they want a gift rapid for me. Just take the wins. Man.
You're not at the time for style. You don't need style.

Speaker 3 (07:21):
No, no, no, no, this is.

Speaker 4 (07:22):
Not college where we got to go to the pollsters
and have some knucklehead get in front of the podium.
They had to head win count. Yeah, maybe not this week.
You know that kind of thing, you know when we
talk about Notre Dame in Miami and all those fun
little permutations and the voting and we'll get the latest iteration,
the next iteration tomorrow.

Speaker 3 (07:41):
No, no, no, I'm celebrating the bears wins. There's oh no,
this is rare.

Speaker 1 (07:47):
Man, you're defaulting to be in.

Speaker 3 (07:49):
I'm just angry in general.

Speaker 1 (07:51):
No, the Bears are better than the not Look the
night of the night. They're just not good.

Speaker 3 (07:54):
Right, they got Christian McCaffrey.

Speaker 1 (07:56):
Good. Yes, there's a lot of ills, Yes that yeah,
that's great. Great. Wi McCaffrey is a great player. The
Niners are not a good football team. They're not good.
They have.

Speaker 3 (08:05):
The division.

Speaker 1 (08:07):
You know, they should be behind the Cardinals, but the
cardinalswice and the Cardinals are terrible.

Speaker 3 (08:11):
So let's go, let's go break down their late game performances.

Speaker 1 (08:14):
Shall and the Niners gona win the next two they're
gonna be They're gonna win two more games and have
ten wins because I mean, really, it's it's hard to
sit here and look at the Niners ago. Yeah, they're
really really good. At least the Bears at least the
Steelers are showing. Yeah, we're really not that good. I know,
you thought we were really not that good. We're giving
away this division to the Baltimore Ravens. Okay, just so
you know, that's six and five.

Speaker 4 (08:34):
I was really sad to not see Aaron Rodgers out there,
just as a football fan.

Speaker 3 (08:39):
And and with the history. Come on, nobody's ever said that.

Speaker 1 (08:42):
No, no, no, you wanted to see You wanted to see
Bears owner Aaron Rodgers out there, so you can beat
him and say you no longer own the Bears.

Speaker 4 (08:48):
No, but like this was exciting because you also beat
these Steelers with six starters on your defense missing. They
didn't play a single starting linebacker all out, so that
was kind of fun. But Mason Rudolph doesn't bring the
same juice again. Take the w but you would have
liked your guys chasing Aaron Rodgers around that five feet

(09:09):
that he can move.

Speaker 1 (09:10):
Buddy, why does it matter you won the game? Why
are you complaining about winning the game. Everybody's complaining about
winning the game, are you? I am from Mason Rudolf.
I am talking from holy bully pulpit of a Fox
Sports radio host. As a guy that watches a lot
of football, I would rather see Aaron Rodgers in a
diminished capacity than Mason Rudolph on the field. Okay, as

(09:33):
a Bears fan, bring me whoever and let me attack.
I think I think the two Mike Harmon's are getting
a little confused that I think you. I think your
your brain is split into.

Speaker 3 (09:43):
Twos right now. He wants to go back to the
old way, as it sounds.

Speaker 1 (09:49):
Like he's having conversation with himself about a host and
I'm a I'm a Bears fan, a Host of the
Parts fan.

Speaker 3 (09:55):
It did just be there's some things that serve my fan.
No man, other things that s just from a radio perspective.

Speaker 1 (10:01):
Just be happy, man, It won it's it, it's all.
It's all good. You don't wait. It's a holiday week.

Speaker 4 (10:06):
I went It's Wicked and drake a lot of Coca
cola late at night to keep me awake to watch
that good.

Speaker 1 (10:14):
That was good. Don't want to fall asleep like it
did in Top Gun Maverick when we all went, yeah,
I know you want to want to go You boring?

Speaker 3 (10:20):
What do you want?

Speaker 1 (10:21):
We were what did you want us to do with
the movie? Ty Shirt was yelling every five minutes of
the movie when we went to go see.

Speaker 3 (10:26):
I'd give you a Sharby mustache.

Speaker 1 (10:28):
I don't know, we should we really should have. That
really would have been nice. He looked like Tom Selleck,
like a blonde to So.

Speaker 4 (10:33):
We're also talking about this thing, and it's like that
was what four years ago at this point.

Speaker 1 (10:38):
Well, what's the last time we went to Because well,
you can't go out at night, you're gonna fall asleep.
Why why would he bring you to a movie We're
Just Gonna Fall asleep at eleven o'clock.

Speaker 3 (10:46):
Was a fan of the most expensive naps possible.

Speaker 4 (10:50):
I've got my uh my subscription. So that's that cuts
that cost down and immeasurably, Mike.

Speaker 3 (11:00):
Yeah, because ever since Benny he has a bedtime.

Speaker 1 (11:02):
Now. No, now, you got Benny and Bailey. I got
two dogs out. Yeah, I got Bailey and Benny.

Speaker 3 (11:09):
Supers stole the King's mask, didn't you.

Speaker 1 (11:11):
Yeah? Yeah, Wait do you say I put I put
the head on when I walk around the house.

Speaker 3 (11:18):
Whoa. We just got into a whole other uh stuff
right there. Huh.

Speaker 1 (11:26):
We rescued another multipoo and it came with him.

Speaker 3 (11:31):
Yeah. I think I think that's multi.

Speaker 1 (11:36):
Rescue when when you you take you take a dog
from a situation that needs to needs a better situation
for whatever reason. That's what I mean.

Speaker 3 (11:43):
Do you consider a rescue when you go and buy
a big Mac? Is that rescuing?

Speaker 1 (11:48):
I'm rescuing my my appetite at that point, I need
a big Mac. I need a big Mac. No, Ty.
It wasn't like he was like Alan Rickman at the
end of Diehard, holding on to the you know, the
Bonnie Badelia's wristwatch and I had to grab him. Sorry spoiler, No,
that's that's that's kind of what I want.

Speaker 4 (12:02):
Yeah, Eastern spoiled Dutch time.

Speaker 3 (12:07):
Bonnie Bedelia makes a ref bony.

Speaker 1 (12:10):
Yeah. Now, look, you wanted to talk about fun, Okay,
because clearly Harmon kweed. I wanted to talk about the
Bears being fun. Harmon can't do that. I want to
find a way to come play. The Cowboys win yesterday
and it's a great comeback over the Eagles. And look,
I said on Friday, Eagle's gonna win this game by forty,
and it looked like they were going to and then
they just simply forgot. They stopped playing.

Speaker 3 (12:30):
Right.

Speaker 1 (12:31):
Jason lock and Forrest said it looked like it was
too easy for them and they kind of just mailed
it in. And the Cowboys came back and never quit
and it was fun. Dallas is just such a fun
team to watch this year because their offense is uncoverable.
We last week when the Texans won on Thursday night,
we said, you know what the Texans, and Jake Lazers

(12:51):
stopped by all it said, you know what, the Texans
are the team in the AFC nobody wants to play
because defensively, it's the best defense in the AFC, them
and the and the Broncos at the top. Nobody wants
to play the Texans rest of the way because their
defense is that good. In the NFC, Dallas has become
that team that nobody wants to play because the offense
is uncoverable. They have stepped up in a large with

(13:13):
their defense is better. Right. Quentin Williams had what eight
hurries uh yesterday against Jalen Hurts. He's been terrific since
they got him from the Jets. There's times George Pickens
looks like he's the best wide receiver in the NFL.
Like I really, it blows me away that this was
the same guy I've been watching in Pittsburgh under achieved
for the last couple of years, because I mean, there's
times where it looks like he and not Jackson Smith

(13:35):
and Jig, but is the best wide receiver in the
NFL because he's unstoppable and uncoverable. Pickens looks that good.
Sometimes the Cowboys are just fun and defensively, nobody wants
play the Texans in the AFC. Offensively, that's who the
Cowboys are. Nobody wants to play them in the NFC
the rest of the way. They are that dangerous no
matter what the deficit is, they can come back on you.

(13:56):
They're dangerous, they're fun. They're just a fun team to watch.

Speaker 3 (14:00):
Especially after being spotted.

Speaker 4 (14:02):
You know, the Eagles up twenty one nothing and it's like,
all right, just go play football. I guess you loosen up.
Ceedee Lamb with a big drop and then doesn't doctor reporters,
but he won't get the aj Brown treatment because they
won and dramatic comeback fashion, and everybody's more enamored with
what George Pickens is doing because it's also another opportunity
to laugh at the Pittsburgh Steelers and all of the

(14:25):
people that have left their building and gone on to
good things. So there's a bit of that, But yeah,
the defense once once things normalized, you know, we've seen
some good things the last couple of weeks. You hang
a little bit of you know, the big flake of
what himalayan pink Himalayan salt?

Speaker 3 (14:44):
Is that, right, Alex? Is that what I want to do?

Speaker 4 (14:46):
The pink Himalayan salt when it comes to playing the Raiders,
because what's that word? They stink. So it was good
to see them rise up for a half plus against
what is a pretty good offense, but a fits and start,
stops and starts and stops, whatever you want to say
with the Eagles, like, we've not seen that level of consistency.

(15:07):
It's winning football. But they move forward for the for
Dak Prescott and company. Yeah, it's a lot of fun,
certainly for your fantasy team.

Speaker 1 (15:15):
Yeah. Look, nobody wants to play them. The offense is
just too red hot. Man. It's fine and they're fun
and embrace the fun. Coming up next, the guy who
has been the walking definition of embrace the fun of
the NFL the last couple of weeks, plus two big
hot takes from coming off of this weekend in the
NFL Week twelve. Keep it right here, Jason and Mike

(15:36):
Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 2 (15:38):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 1 (15:49):
Fox Sports Radio. The Jason Smith Show with my best
friend Mike Harmon. You Aaron Rodgers. So I watch bad
football so you don't have to. And I say this
all the time, right, Hey, this football game was pretty bad,
but there's interesting stuff happening. You know what, Jason watches
that because he's used to watching bad football, because he
watches the Jets all the time.

Speaker 3 (16:10):
This is true.

Speaker 1 (16:12):
And nobody knows bad football like mebodyence, you and I
both with bad football. Absolutely, you with good football. This
year has been pretty good. How about the Wildcats taking
down the Golden Gophers thirty eight to thirty five?

Speaker 3 (16:25):
Ball eligible?

Speaker 1 (16:26):
They are not rowing the boat. You stop them from
rowing the boat. It is true, they are not rowing
the boat. But they weren't on Lake Michigan, so they
couldn't just get in the boat and leave. Yeah, that
is true, Frey Fields. It was a little harder to
get out to the sea. We were landlocked at the
Northmen cannot come in and fire arrows at you. But

(16:48):
I gotta tell you this, I gotta be honest with you.
I know the Ravens have had a lot of run
in the last few weeks, and here they come in
the AFC North and here they are now tied at
the top of the division. The main reason they're tied
to the top is well, is because the Steelers stink.
The Steelers absolutely stink. So there's that that is fair. Yeah,
their schedule has been somewhat fortuitous, and they've come all

(17:10):
the way back from one to five to be six
and five. And it's gonna be the Ravens or the
Steelers winning this division because the Bengals and the Browns
are both terrible. The Bengals, I mean, really, Joe Burrow
not coming back last week was a killer, and I
know they didn't want him to play two games in
five days, but man, that loss really just just sunk them, right,
because now they're three games out and it's really not
gonna happen for them. So that was I mean, that loss,

(17:32):
that's the killer loss in the Bengals seat. Lose to
the Jets is a big loss, but that loss on
Sunday not having Burrow is a big loss. But I
gotta be honest with you, the Ravens won yesterday and probably,
and I don't think I'm over selling this, they could
have played twenty eight to thirty other teams in the
NFL the way they played yesterday and they would have lost.

(17:53):
But they just so happened to play the Jets, who
in the first half looked like they made the Ravens
looked like they were a team that was just coming
together for the first time. They had a big pass
interference penalty, two big pass interference penalties that gave them
ten points. And they're playing the Jets, and the Jets
are awful, and the Ravens played probably a D plus

(18:13):
game and they won this game. But more importantly, Lamar
Jackson does not look right at all. He had zero escapability.
There are plays where I thought, even a diminished Lamar Jackson,
which he was, he's going to get a first down
on this play. He couldn't run around defensive linemen at

(18:34):
the hash marks. There was one play when they were
forced to kick a field goal in the first half
where Jackson scrambling on third down and I see him
run up the middle in one of those patent Lamar
Jackson where I step up in the pocket, I get
near the line of scrimmage and I kind of do
that shimmy shake and I just run to the side
and I run around everybody, and it's a ten yard
run for a first down. And I said, that's what's happening.

(18:56):
And instead he took two steps to the left, cut
back to the middle, and the Jets were able to
tackle him, and I'm saying, wow, that, I mean, nothing
told me more that Lamar Jackson really might be at
fifty or sixty percent than that play right there. He's
got the guy, he's you know, he's got he's got
the angle, he's got the side, or at least it

(19:17):
seems like he does. And instead he cuts back to
the middle and he that play was an eye opener
for the first time. I'm saying, oh, the Jets can
win this game because he can't take off of the
football and run. They're gonna keep in the pocket. But no, no,
when Lamar Jackson got in trouble, he threw the ball
up deep and the Jets committed pass interference penalties, and
that that's what gave me. Really, that's what gave him

(19:37):
the game. Two bad pass interference penalties put ten points
on the board for the uh or fourteen points on
the board for the Ravens. That's how they won the game.
But Lamar Jackson, I am not sold on him. I'm
not sold on his health. And now they're adding a
toe injury to the list of ailments for him, and
suddenly the Ravens look like, hey, they're gonna show up
and they're gonna run rough shot over this conference and

(19:58):
Lamar is back. Well, yeah, they got Pittsburgh, they got
Cincinnati coming up where you know, okay, Cincinnati twice the
next three weeks. Okay, but Cincinnati puts points on the
board and Burrow is coming back and it's gonna be
a little bit more difficult to stay with them. And
they had a tough time against a Jets defense that
didn't really have any playmakers that they're starting over on defense.

(20:19):
Then you have New England and Green Bay near the end,
you're at Pittsburgh at the end of the season. I
know that the Ravens where everybody's favorite come from behind
super Bowl team, But after yesterday, I don't know, man,
because Lamar Jackson just did not I mean, he looked
like he was fifty percent of the quarterback that he
normally was still enough to beat the Jets because you
know Jets, but he really was incredibly diminished.

Speaker 4 (20:42):
Yeah, I mean, we talked about what the defense has
been better, but as we talked about with Jason locking
for earlier in the show, he's out there in Baltimore
watching every snap. So you don't have to because it's
it's not a pretty it's not a pretty watch. I mean,
you have four games since he's returned. Lamar Jackson the
high of his past yards two four. Okay, that was
a four touchdown game against Miami, but that was also

(21:04):
a game where at that point we thought everybody was
being fired, traded or quitting. Instead, they've now rallied a bit. Minnesota,
they're not good Cleveland. Well, there you have.

Speaker 1 (21:17):
It.

Speaker 4 (21:17):
Took a Mark Andrews parrouette and a sprint to daylight
out of play that Lamar Jackson would normally take to
win that game twenty three to sixteen, and then you
got this game against the Jets. Since returning, he's got
a total of twenty five carries for a total of
what is it about fifty fifty eight seventy two yards.

(21:42):
That's not good because normally you were getting sixty yards
a game, and that's sprint out to daylight that you
had to be keep linebackers honest and create some space
over the middle for likely or for Andrews that's not
there right now. And while he's not taking a bunch
of sacks getting rid of the ball, the threat of
him getting to the edge and creating chaos downfield or

(22:06):
with his legs is just not there. And Derrick Henry
had had a good game this week.

Speaker 3 (22:11):
Uh.

Speaker 4 (22:11):
Again, it's all relative at this point because he's a
guy you can't trust in short yarded situations. You get
no thrust up front. So going forward, Yeah, the schedule
has some pluses on it, you know, four division games
against suspect opponents, but Cincinnati will put points up on him, right,
it's a it's.

Speaker 1 (22:30):
A j Burrow now Cincinnati. This is not Cincinnati with
Joe Flacco.

Speaker 4 (22:34):
By the way, that was that was a great press
conference from Joe Flacco though, I give him a lot
of credit, uh, talking about the time he's had and
the opportunity and everything else. But Bengals will be without
t Higgins concussion. That was a scary moment, uh in
Sunday's game. Hopefully he's back on the field and he's right.
Uh soon they get Jamar Chase back off his one

(22:55):
game suspension. He issued the lengthy apology uh in letter
form that we got. So you know, offensively there there's
still some cogs, right, Chase Brown's been better all of
those things. So for Baltimore, a very stiff test on
a short week, but a compromise, Lamar Jackson leads me
to believe, Yeah, they'll win the division, so you'll cash

(23:17):
that ticket.

Speaker 5 (23:18):
Uh.

Speaker 3 (23:18):
And then if you're you're drawn dead. If you got
him for anything further, Yeah.

Speaker 1 (23:22):
Because he's got to keep playing. So it's not like
he's he's gonna sit back out. It's just gonna be
it's just gonna be one of those years where he's
always gonna be injured the rest of the way, and
you're gonna get a lesser version of Lamar Jackson than
you normally do because he's.

Speaker 3 (23:36):
Been shut out back to back wins.

Speaker 1 (23:37):
Man. I mean, it's it's amazing. It's amazing, And I'm
not watching the Jets defense do anything crazy. It's not
like they went nuts yet to go wow, here they
are with these exotic blitz packages and no, you see
they still struggled because he realized all I gonna do
is throw the ball up and they're gonna panic and
commit a pass interference penalty.

Speaker 5 (23:53):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (23:54):
And and that was really what it was, because the
Jets had this game right first, first possession of second half,
the Ravens are looking at the three and out. It's
like third and seventeen and Jackson gets chased out of
the pocket and he just chucks it up deep to
Mark Andrews and it's an incomplete pass. There's no shot,
this passes any chance of being completed. But one of

(24:14):
the Jets, young Dbs, who's in there now because you
know sars Gardner is no longer on the team, commits
a bad pass interference penalty because he panics, and it's
a thirty four yard penalty, and that just put breathed
all kinds of life into the Ravens. They go down
and they score to take the lead, and then they
don't look back, even though they're not playing that great.
The Jets have a couple of turnovers, they have another

(24:34):
pass interference penalty there the Jet puts them on the
goal line, right. So, I mean, that's really what the
Ravens needed to win this game. That mean, they had
a D plus game yesterday and it was it was terrible.
It was it was absolutely this game was awful. It
was worse to watch the Monday night game. And that's
telling you something, man. I mean, it was worse to
watch than that. And but that's that's kind of how

(24:55):
it is and how it's gonna be for the Ravens
and Lamar Jackson. He's not gonna be healthy the rest
of this year, and you're gonna get a diminished version
of him the rest of the way. This this AFC North,
I look at it and go, we have to take
a team out of here for the playoffs. Really, we
can't just say, you know what, listen, we got we
got some really good teams in the AFC West. We
want to take all three of these teams. Can we
can we do that? Not take a team from the

(25:16):
AFC North, because man, I mean, these these teams are
all these teams are all terrible. They all stink. I
mean really, I'm sure, and can't in Cincinnati where the
season's over. There, go we got Burrow back. We can
run the table and finish nine to eight. Why not?
We got Joe Burrow. That's how bad the division is.
You're thinking, oh, we can run the table. We have
the Ravens twice even though we're three games back, and
then we could win these two games. I mean, that's

(25:36):
how bad the division.

Speaker 4 (25:37):
This is, well, but you still until you abolish divisions
and lump it all together and change up the formula.
Someone emerges as the tallest, strongest, best, because you know,
this is where we get to use the term best
and really not want to.

Speaker 3 (25:55):
You know, it.

Speaker 4 (25:56):
Feels uncomfortable and dirty to say the best in the
division because they will represent and look, might might this
just be a lingering thing that Lamar can work out of.
I don't know, but where we sit right now, it's
it's a tough watch compared to what we've seen, you know,
all these MVP races and chases through the years. I mean,

(26:19):
whatever we want to say about Buffalo and Josh Allen,
he doesn't look any of the worse for wear, right,
He's still doing his thing. You just got a lot
of issues around him. For Lamar, it's it's just one
of those Okay, we need to just put you and
let you get some rest here. You go watch some
movies and get ready for better days. But he's got

(26:40):
six weeks to try to slog through. Hopefully he comes
out not much worse for the wear, but they really
need to draw something up and get back on the
back on the whiteboard to come up with something creative
to maximize what he's able to do physically at this point,
because your entire offense has changed from what you've seen

(27:01):
from the last four years.

Speaker 1 (27:03):
Yeah, but look at it this way they play Thursday
this week, they played, yes, every night, Like, what are
you going to get? Like?

Speaker 4 (27:08):
Is he Fortunately the Bengals stink defensively Hendrick? That's true,
but wait, wait, wait, the Jets stink defensively to the
Jets are The Jets are awful on defense. Their best
two players aren't different. But people told me they were
a top five defense coming into.

Speaker 1 (27:25):
Who told you that? That was when I saw that?
When I saw that the Jets broke up a top
five defense, I'm like, when four years ago they broke up.

Speaker 3 (27:31):
A tough Mike? Was that the same guy who had
them in the Super Bowl?

Speaker 1 (27:35):
Sure? I was? That was two two weeks ago. Yes,
okay two years ago. No, I did not, no, no, no,
two years ago it was did not say that, but
we were But what are you going to get when
when when Thursday night, it's a short week turning around,
Like I got a feeling this Thursday night that game
is going to be We talked about the ugly trend
of games we're having. You have Burrow back after a
long layoff, and Lamar Jackson banged up, trying to come

(27:58):
back on a short week. Oh man, I really hope
Chiefs Cowboys is good.

Speaker 4 (28:03):
Fifty one and a half is the total for Cinzi
in Baltimore?

Speaker 3 (28:08):
How about that? Yeah?

Speaker 4 (28:09):
Fifty two and a half Kansas City and Dallas, and
then you get the early start the Green Bay and
Detroit game. I was still waiting to see what Josh
Jake has been able to do. I able to be
but he had a nice game from Emmanuel Wilson, who
was one of our ninja's in Week twelve.

Speaker 1 (28:25):
Exit ob out a Fresca Exit swollen down The Jason
Smith Show with my best friend Mike Carmon time how
to find out what's trending in the wide world of sports.
So someone who's been called the Joe Burrow of Fox
Sports Radio. He likes to tool around with his batmobile too,
except it's a toy. It's Steve Desager.

Speaker 5 (28:41):
And my toe hurts.

Speaker 3 (28:44):
Is it the gout?

Speaker 1 (28:45):
Really? It's really bad, Telly Meets.

Speaker 5 (28:49):
You mentioned the Jed stefense. They still only have one
takeaway the entire seats. That's impressive. That's astounding. In eleven
games to start a season. They are the worst in
the NFL and turnover margin at minus thirteen. You know
who's the absolute best in the NFL this year and
turnover margin bears those Chicago Bears, even after.

Speaker 1 (29:10):
Salt would get turnovers.

Speaker 5 (29:11):
Still at a plus sixteen. Chicago forty nine Ers beat
the Panthers twenty to nine. Panthers fall to six and six.
You know they would have been alone and first in
their division with a win. Tonight This Sunday, Carolina will
host the Rams, the number one team in the NFC
Niners in Conference eight and two eight and four overall.
Brock Party in early touchdown pass then three interceptions in

(29:33):
the first half. San Francisco After this evening plays at Cleveland,
then a bye week, then against Tennessee. Brown's quarterback Dylan
Gabriel was cleared to play, but Shdur Sanders will start
again Sunday against the forty nine Ers. Gabriel is out
of concussion protocol. The Vikings place quarterback JJ McCarthy in
concussion protocol. Bucks quarterback Baker Mayfield has a sprain left shoulder,

(29:55):
but it's called a low grade sprain with no long
term concerns. Teddy brig Water would start this Sunday for
Tampa Bay against the Cardinals if Mayfield can't play. The
New York Giants fired defensive coordinator Shane Bowen. The Raiders
promoted Greg Oldson to interim offensive coordinator after firing Chip
Kelly on Sunday night. The late NBA game is midway

(30:16):

The New York Knicks got thirty seven points from Carl
Anthony Towns in a victory at Brooklyn. Denver got sixteen

State and New Orleans. That Golden State win was one

(30:59):
thirty four one seventeen against Utah, Steph Curry thirty one points.
Draymond Green of the Warriors was out tonight with a
spring foot. Jonathan Comingo of Golden State still out with
a bad knee. As for the New Orleans win, it
was against Chicago one forty three to one thirties, Ion
Williamson twenty nine points Pelicans and a nine game losing streak.
A lot of college hoops in Vegas, including tonight number

Seaton Haul upset Number twenty three NC State Gonzaga over
Alabama tonight, Iowa State beat Saint John's eighty three eighty two,
and number three Houston in overtime defeated Syracuse seventy eight

Number twenty one Auburn beat Oregon eighty four to seventy three.
Oregon football was up to number five in the new polls.
For what it's worth, The new Playoff Committee rankings come

(32:05):
have lost four straight to Michigan. College football selection Sunday
is December seventh, a week from Sunday. The regular season
ends for most teams this Saturday. In the NHL, Florida

Colorado Rockies interim manager Warren Schaefer will return next year.
He had been promoted from third base coach back to you.

Speaker 1 (32:27):
Thank you, Steve though The Jason Smith Show with My
best friend Mike Carmon live from the Fox Sports Radio Studios.

Shador Sanders debut a day ago by the Cleveland Browns.

we break it down, Jason to Mike.

The Jason Smith Show with My best friend Mike Harmon.
More from under Night Football coming up in about fifteen minutes.
But the big drama of today in the NFL has
already been solved.

Speaker 3 (33:12):
That's it.

Speaker 1 (33:12):
People. People woke up this morning going, if Shador Sanders
doesn't get another gig, another chance to start a quarterback,
I will tear this city apart.

Speaker 3 (33:22):
Is that?

Speaker 4 (33:22):
How you you start a radio or TV show and
just say I want to go on three or four
hours early before there's an announcement.

Speaker 3 (33:29):
What don's he's supposed to speak? Get me out before then?

Speaker 1 (33:32):
What are we gonna know? Uh? And people were ready
to be upset. He deserves it like he threw for
four hundred and fifty yards and five touchdowns.

Speaker 3 (33:40):
I answered, Harry, how dare you the Jets?

Speaker 1 (33:45):
Kevin Stefane, No Jets two seventy five, two touchdowns and
a pick double? Oh no, No, I can't say a
pick because it Jets.

Speaker 3 (33:53):
No, they don't know.

Speaker 1 (33:54):
They touchdowns. That's it. Two touchdowns and a couple of
dropped interceptions. That's would be a couple of drop to this.
That would be the Chets. Uh No, no, we don't.
We don't have a interception.

Speaker 3 (34:04):
No, don't have one.

Speaker 1 (34:06):
We might be that we might We could finish this
year the only team in the NFL to not have
it never happened.

Speaker 3 (34:11):
You hang a banner for that. That's really almost like
you're trying at some point.

Speaker 1 (34:16):
Dude, it's really hard to do to not have one
understand not even like a hailman at the.

Speaker 4 (34:20):
End of like week eighteen, if someone throws a pick
to your guy, they have to drop it on purpose.

Speaker 1 (34:26):
I mean really, and Aaron Glenn's a defensive coordinator, turn
head coach. We don't have one pick, we don't have
one one interception, realm.

Speaker 3 (34:32):
But remember that time you thought he was the guy that.

Speaker 4 (34:35):
There's a lot of hope about culture attitude.

Speaker 1 (34:40):
I'm stuck. I'm stuck. What does it matter? It doesn't
matter what even if we got a new head coach
and look at the quarterback wrong anyway, what does it matter.
Fernando Mendoza could turn into Marrio Mendoza if if we
get him, and dude, that would make him an average
or and he could get he could go to another
team and he'd be Fernando Valenzuela the beginning his rookie year, fantastic,

(35:02):
we go everywhere, that's whatever the Jets do it. Fernando
was great, though, Fernanda was awesome, but Shador Sanders will
start again for the Browns this week, even though Dylan
Gabriel has cleared concussion protocol. And you could tell Kevin
Stefanski making this announcement today like they were pulling teeth
to get him to say yes, Shador Sanders will start

(35:24):
again because you could just tell he wants nothing to
do with him. He wants nothing to do with him
as a Browns quarterback. But we drafted him. He's a
fan favorite, people love him on TV. Okay, but to
be honest, listen, we told you exactly how his game
was gonna go, and now we'll tell you exactly what
the what the break the fault of this is. We

(35:44):
told you on Friday, he's gonna make some good play.
He will make three or four really good individual plays
that will be enough to win this game because it's
the Raiders, because the Raiders stink and the Browns defense
is foaming at the mouth to get it. Geno Smith,
right at the end of the year, we're to look
back and the Browns are gonna go. Man, have we
just gotten anybody to move the football a little bit?

(36:05):
We could have won the division because the division stinks,
and we decided for whatever reason we're gonna tank for
a quarterback, right, but the defense is that good, And
that's exactly what Shador Sanders did. He made a couple
of big plays and they won, right, that's all. He
wasn't unbelievable, He didn't go he was he was okay
and okay at times.

Speaker 4 (36:23):
Oh yeah, the one big throw right rollout to his right,
big arm, big play. Unfortunately, dude falls short of the
goal line, so you don't get the touchdown to cap
it off. So for fantasy purposes, it was a nice play,
but not a huge play.

Speaker 1 (36:38):
Well, if you were starting Shador Sanders in fantasy, you're
in a lot, You're your team is in a lot more.

Speaker 4 (36:42):
Time, but it becomes the active desperation dollar daily fantasy
kind of play again, given the uh the opponent on
the other side wishing, wanting, hoping that you find and
catch the.

Speaker 3 (36:55):
Lightning in the ball.

Speaker 4 (36:56):
The other which was a big touchdown play, which was
sixty six yard yards, was a quick screen pass, you know,
a little flare out to the running back that he
did all the work, but you get the passing yards,
so you back those out of the two oh nine,
those two plays account for what was it about one
hundred and twenty one hundred and eighteen to those yards.

Speaker 3 (37:16):
I mean they don't count just the same. But he
was eleven of twenty one.

Speaker 1 (37:20):
Yeah, he was gonna make three or four plays that
were gonna be enough because again, because it's the Raiders,
and that's exactly what happened. But he's given a little
bit of energy and excitement to Cleveland, give an excitement
to the fan base, excitement of the team because he's
a better downfield patch than Dylan Gabriel, who was drafted
in the third round. I know the other teams even
had him on their draft board and they took him

(37:41):
in the third round. But what's going on here is
absolutely what it should be. Nothing bad was done. The
right decision was made. Look, I'd love to be able
to tell you this was done wrong, this was here,
but the right decision was made. Shador Sanders won the
game Sunday. There's some excitement. He deserves to get the
start this week against the four forty nine ers.

Speaker 3 (38:01):
Sure, I didn't need to earn no more, no less.

Speaker 1 (38:04):
He didn't. He didn't earn the right to be the
quarterback the rest of the season. He didn't the right
to be named the starter for the next month. He
earned you know what, he played well enough, you're gonna
start again against the forty nine ers, and depending on
the result, you will start again. Right, you would need
to be really, really bad to the tune of, you know,
no touchdowns, four picks and we lose thirty eight to
nine to not get another start after playing well against

(38:26):
the Raiders. But that but this is exactly how it
should be handled. He played well enough to get the
start this weekast the forty nine ers, and let's deal
with it that way. Let's go one week at a time.
And honestly, when you see how he's responding and saying
things like I'm what they've been missing the whole time,
I get why Kevin Stefanski wants to slow play it.
Not gonna give him stuff yet, especially when he's talking
like this after one game where it's like, okay, it

(38:48):
was the Raiders. I get you're excited all of that,
but we're gonna slow play it. Everything has done the
right way. He has earned the right for another start.
He's not earned anything more than that, but he's earned it,
and so yes, you start him this week, and you
see how it goes the rest of the way.

Speaker 4 (39:02):
You got a w you actually had at least some
verticality to it. Again, muted only a couple of big plays,
but you're at least challenging defenses. Now did you get
the results, Judy, And you know the Tillman and the
other receivers downfield that you thought no, I mean, Fannin
ends up still being your leader with four receptions, just

(39:24):
like he was with Dylan Gabriel. But your average air
yards per attempt is three yards better. Right, you're talking
top ten in terms of eight point four is where
Shador ranks limited time obviously, but he doesn't show a
conscience in terms of hey, I'm checking down. No, he's
gonna take and try for the explosives. Eventually that comes

(39:47):
back to bite you in the ass, and the turnovers
will be there. But it's the moment wasn't too big.
He went out and played well enough to at least
earn another look. See whether Stefanski wants it, whether the
front office wants it, doesn't matter. You got to give
yourself at least a puncher's chance downfield and against San
Francisco at home another opportunity to do so.
