Speaker 3 (01:07):
So uh.
Speaker 1 (01:08):
New developments in Elane Kiffin Ole, Miss Lsu Saga which
number one. I want to say first, overall, I appreciate
all the different twists and turns in this story because
this is something that just cut through the clutter, right,
I mean, just just the drama of him staying or going,
(01:28):
How open it was in the media, how his decision
is criticized, how the decision to let him go is criticized,
how the decision to let him stay and coach be criticized,
How lane Kiffin said he prayed on stuff and the
team wanted him to stay.
Speaker 3 (01:43):
I just love that nothing this story.
Speaker 1 (01:45):
Is still going even though the big decision was made
lane Kiffin's head coach at LSU.
Speaker 3 (01:51):
I love that claiming he was almost run off the
road by people.
Speaker 1 (01:56):
Then you add the Marty Smith interview again, I'm still
waiting for the violinist overlay for it in a little
band off to the side to play some sad music
as the tone and tenor.
Speaker 3 (02:08):
It was like it was the worst day of his life.
Speaker 1 (02:09):
It's like, no, dude, you're going to get a hundred
million dollars from LSU and anything you want. Like, you
can't be that sad seck about this. I mean, come on,
but all of it. It's been the second half of
the college football season. Right, we had the firings at
Penn State, which we talked about, we talk about Florida,
(02:30):
all of these things, and then obviously Brian Kelly and
more and more stories are emerging about how much people
really had a liking problem with him. To wit, we
have this from just in the last couple of hours.
A couple of Ole Miss players have now decided, Okay,
it's been twenty four hours. We have a new head
(02:51):
coach now here. We are going to punch back at
coach Kiffin. Kiffin puts out a statement that in retrospect,
is a really bad idea when he says, hey, I
prayed a lot figured it, you know, which is fine. Yeah,
I want you to know that I prayed a lot
over it. Oh, it has nothing to do with the money,
the opportunity. No, I prayed over it.
Speaker 3 (03:09):
Okay.
Speaker 1 (03:10):
But one of the big things he said was that quote,
I was hoping to complete an historic six year historic
it's end historic.
Speaker 3 (03:18):
Yeah he's missing an end.
Speaker 1 (03:20):
Lose his Copye a terrible You don't go to school
at ole Miss, right, it doesn't matter he didn't go. Okay,
I was hoping to complete a historic sixth season run
with this year's team by leading Ole Miss through the playoffs,
capitalizing on the team's incredible success and their commitment to
finish strong. Okay, Then he goes on to say that
Ole Miss athletic director Keith Carter denied his request to
(03:42):
stay coaching through the playoff quote despite the team also
asking him to allow me to keep coaching them so
they could better maintain their high level of performance. So
this is Lane Kiffin saying, Hey, I wanted to stay
this evil ad Keith Carter wouldn't let me do it,
despite the fact that team asked me to stay and
keep coaching. Well, this part has caught the attention of
(04:06):
a couple of players now, including starting center Bryson Sanders,
who put this on social media just an hour or
so ago.
Speaker 3 (04:16):
Quote despite the team asking me to keep.
Speaker 1 (04:18):
Coaching, I think everyone that was in that room would disagree.
This is what Bryson Sanders wrote on next despite the
team asking me to keep coaching, I think everyone that
was in that room would disagree. Right now, you also
had senior linebacker sun Treene Perkins, the second player to
refute Kiffin by saying that was not the message you
(04:40):
said in the meeting room. That's sell what you told
the meeting room man, that's not the message you gave us,
this message of I wanted to stay, they wanted me
to stay. All this So you had one player say
everybody room would disagree, and now another player saying, that's
not the message you said in the meeting room.
Speaker 3 (04:59):
First thing, I want to say. First, first thing, right away,
let's get the elephant out of the room.
Speaker 4 (05:02):
Well.
Speaker 1 (05:03):
Then the second line was everybody who was in there
can vouch on this.
Speaker 3 (05:06):
Yes, everyone was in there can vouch on this.
Speaker 5 (05:08):
Right.
Speaker 1 (05:08):
This is not one person saying I took it this web.
This was I'm speaking for everybody in that room, all
one hundred and twenty players. All of these guys are
gonna walk up and put their jerseys at a desk
like it's rudy, he's a liar. Dan Devine's going, all right,
we'll let him dress. Uh number one. I want to
say this, even though these are what we have from
players saying this, does anybody doubt this latest development in
(05:32):
the story whatsoever?
Speaker 3 (05:33):
Does anybody doubt this at all? Does anybody think got
it up?
Speaker 1 (05:37):
They're gas light Lane Kiffin, There absolutely gas light Lane
Kiffin on this, No, let me way doubt it. I
can't wait for the next guys to come toward right,
I mean, did you believe any of his statement? I
believe that he prayed, right, he that's part of that.
It's been consistent with how he's talked about decision making.
It's et cetera. And that's it. Right, he talked to
(05:58):
his family. Okay, I believe that. But he's also a
claiming he'd never talked to his agent about the money. Really, yeah,
they know. All the people say, I don't know.
Speaker 3 (06:10):
I know, I don't know. We didn't talk.
Speaker 1 (06:12):
Oh really, you just decided to take to take the
gig and that baby billy, Let me tell what's really good?
I get nothing for this.
Speaker 3 (06:17):
Let me tell you. Let me tell you about the money. No no, no, no,
no no no no no, no, no, don't.
Speaker 5 (06:20):
Know the money.
Speaker 1 (06:21):
I gotta decide if I want this job, regardless of
the money. Oh, okay, tell him I'm taking it. Well,
I told him, you're taking it. What's the money like? Oh,
it's not what you thought it was gonna be.
Speaker 2 (06:28):
Wait what yeah, No, you're taking it.
Speaker 3 (06:30):
You're taking a pretty big haircane.
Speaker 6 (06:31):
Yeah, yeah.
Speaker 1 (06:32):
Yeah, like Ole miss is going to give you ten
million to stay, They're gonna give.
Speaker 3 (06:35):
You like four.
Speaker 1 (06:35):
You also agreed that, you know, half of your money
is going to be used to you know, refurbish the
weight route. Oh yeah, yeah, half half your money is
going to nil to get players that come in.
Speaker 3 (06:44):
Just so you know that.
Speaker 1 (06:45):
Yeah, apparently they're really in dire strange that's paying off.
Brian Kelly. I didn't know this, but I was gonna
tell you that. He said, no, no, no, no, no,
don't tell me about.
Speaker 3 (06:52):
The money him and and oh they owe a lot
of money. What are we gonna do?
Speaker 5 (06:57):
You know?
Speaker 1 (06:57):
I remember when when the first time I I'm never
gonna fall for that that crap line again, Like I
never talked to my agent.
Speaker 3 (07:04):
I don't know was.
Speaker 1 (07:05):
I was so excited to get John Gruden's book back
when he wrote it after the year after he went
to Tampa and won the Super Bowl. Right, he wrote
a book that was detailing you know, his like Raiders
in Tampa. I'm like, oh, I'm excited. So I put
it on my Christmas Listen. I got it right, and
all I wanted to read about was, ah, what happened
behinds behind the scenes, how he went from Oakland when
(07:26):
they pushed him out and he gets a.
Speaker 3 (07:28):
Job at Tampa.
Speaker 1 (07:29):
Does he write like he speaks and this guy, this guy, yeah, yeah, Wait,
isn't it thhis? But it's dis But I get it
because I speak grud and I understand it's this guy
and this guy.
Speaker 3 (07:37):
I tell you, what.
Speaker 1 (07:40):
Is the first line in the chapter? His first and
I'm a lot lying to you. The first line in
the chapter was to this day, I have no idea
how he became head coach the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Come on, man,
like you went to Ben in Oakland. And I woke
up and they moved my room like it's mission impossible.
And they moved my room and I woke up and
suddenly I'm the head coach Tampa. I'm wearing Tampa gear.
(08:00):
I've got Tampa Pa John.
Speaker 3 (08:02):
I woke up in us man, who's a Toornado?
Speaker 1 (08:04):
I put the book down and I said, I'm not
going to finish it, and I never I said, that
is that is the why? Even right, I'm mad. I
was mad at the I was mad for the people
who bought me the book. They bought me a book
that I'm not going to read I go, I'm sorry
he wrote a completely horrible book here. But oh no,
the big thing people want to know, Yeah, I have
no idea this day. How he became the head coach
Dampa Buccaneers. Oh, I don't know. And he said something like,
(08:26):
my agent called and the Oakland wanted meat, you know
in Tampa call they called.
Speaker 3 (08:29):
Oh that that's what it did. Really, that's what happened.
You were an unwilling participant. I didn't want to know
about the money. Yeah, okay, but that's.
Speaker 1 (08:36):
The thing with all the land kiff and stuff, the
trying to and victim is probably not the right word,
but it's it may be may be the most all
encompassing to this is like he was forced by all
these other powers to make this, that it was not
a conscious decision. When you've had reports of how much
(08:57):
he loved and then his little press conference where he
started talking about the awe of Death Valley and being
on the sideline and what it's all about, Like, no, no,
that's when the little kid you let and you know,
betrayed everything else you'd been saying about how difficult this
whole process was. And I'm not gonna say and categorically
dismiss it that maybe he didn't grapple with it for
(09:18):
a minute, but beyond that, come on, like it's it
seemed pretty clear all systems were go. And I would
love to have the all the administrators in a room here.
You're attached to polygraphs. Let's talk about the process, man,
Let's really get down to the heart of it, because
you got two players and I guarant d amnte and
(09:40):
by tomorrow we've got many, many more that will come
forward going yep, yep.
Speaker 5 (09:46):
They don't.
Speaker 3 (09:47):
They don't even add any more clarity. That's it. I don't.
Speaker 1 (09:52):
This is gonna be a weird thing to say, but
I'm gonna say. I'm gonna tell you. Somebody tell me
agree or disagree for strictly football reasons, Okay, for football
stuff that goes in with what goes on on the
field off the field, not not counting drama that happens
that just so happens to me because you're a football
I'm talking on the field football stuff. Has there been
(10:13):
a more unlikable head coach in all of football the
last twenty five years than Lane Kiffin, Brian Kelly More.
They love but notre Dame loved him until he left him.
He left right because he got to the like behind
the scenes saying football reasons. I'm saying for football reasons
(10:34):
because all Lane Kiffin has been football reasons. This is
it's not been it's not been any staged. Sure, you get,
you get, you get away from stuff on the field.
And look, Kelly had the horrible, uh tragedy with it
with the kid. You had that that that's that that
that was that was never appropriately done by the university
or him. That's beyond that drama. That's beyond football, right,
that that's human stuff, that's life styff. But I mean
(10:55):
for strictly football reasons because think about all the places
where he's been, where they couldn't wait to see him
go Raiders USC leaving Uce, I'm going, I'm going here, Tennessee,
at Mississippi, everywhere he's going. Him gone right, Glad he's gone.
Like I really, I don't think there's been a more
for strictly football reasons in all of football in the
(11:20):
last twenty five years than Lane Kiffin.
Speaker 3 (11:24):
I'm not gonna get in trouble if I said Urban Meyer, would.
Speaker 1 (11:27):
I again strictly football, No, but a lot of it. No, no, no,
but even for football, but even football wise, moving as
he did at one point it was yeah, fighting health
and then coming back because things got I mean yeah,
did they ever hate him in Ohio State? I don't
think they ever. Did they ever hate him in Florida
(11:48):
won national titles. I don't think he's ever hated there. Again,
things that have had things hated happening, But I mean,
the guy won, the guy won titles. There gotta be
in Michigan all the time, right, in Florida won two
titles now with Chris Lee, he won with Tim Tebow, right,
I mean, like strictly it's the.
Speaker 3 (12:02):
Second league reference.
Speaker 1 (12:04):
And you think about everywhere Lane Kiffin has been, it's
been Yeah, glad he's gone, no matter whether he's been
successful or not successful.
Speaker 3 (12:11):
Everywhere he's been everywhere, every sin.
Speaker 1 (12:14):
Did we mention that they moved up in the rankings
today a slot after he was let go, when the
fear that it was a going to be a precipitous fall,
just to kind of throw that out there, I mean,
I really, I don't know that there's been that there
there's been a more unlikable guy than Lane.
Speaker 3 (12:31):
That is interesting. Yeah, I mean that's insane. I mean
it really is.
Speaker 1 (12:34):
But that but because it's not just now, it's not
just what he did now, it's like, look at all
the other stuff, a lot of stop going back to
the fact he was fighting with Al Davis so bad.
When he went out on the field to do interviews,
he was wearing red gear with red color and not
raiders color. Sure, like red pullovers and red hats. Yeah,
I can't, can't do it, can't do it.
Speaker 3 (12:51):
I mean think about that now. The Tennessee exit was ugly. Yeah,
I know, it's I just think that's a lot of stops.
Speaker 1 (12:58):
Man exit ou about a f esca hexit swollen.
Speaker 2 (13:00):
Do you know what?
Speaker 1 (13:01):
How about we ask our next guest that we have

holiday man. By the way, ty Shirt, you know you

Bill Belichick Christmas song once a night. So you know
we need the Bill Belichick Christmas yesterday. No, no, so
we needed some point we continue yesterday's routine. Then, Jason,
once you buy a swings, then we'll do it.
Speaker 3 (14:58):
The late, the all the thousands of time you're buying

A weezer? You're the Pauly shore a fox. I'm gonna
watch you eat it.
Speaker 4 (15:16):
I'm gonna sit in front of you while you slather
on those wings.
Speaker 6 (15:19):
Eat it.
Speaker 1 (15:21):
The latest college football playoff pole is out. Not a
lot of surprise. Top five, Ohio State, Indiana, Georgia, Texas, Tech,
Oregon up one.
Speaker 3 (15:30):
Okay, that's great. Alabama jumps ahead of Notre Dame.
Speaker 1 (15:34):
Apparently the SEC politicking doing a really, really terrific job.
Speaker 3 (15:40):
What does this mean?
Speaker 1 (15:41):
Luckily, our next guest is going to be able to
tell us longtime friend of the show. He is the owner, editor,
proprietor of college Footballnews dot com. All your prognostications, all
your picks, all your evaluation. Yeah, he's a wizard. He
has everything. He does everything himself. I don't think he's
(16:02):
slept in eleven weeks. No, No, he sleeps after the
college football season goes in like hibernating like a bear.
Speaker 3 (16:08):
He does.
Speaker 1 (16:08):
Yeah, because right now he's dealing with the playoff Poul,
he's dealing with Lane kiit point, dealing with Penn State
being told.
Speaker 3 (16:15):
No by everybody. I think he's interviewing tomorrow.
Speaker 1 (16:17):
He's got a lot of stuff on his I'm actually
interviewing for Penn State tomorrow, tomorrow.
Speaker 3 (16:22):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Why did you tell me I'm
gonna help you prepare?
Speaker 1 (16:25):
Here's the thing, because my whole, my whole thing is
about how much how good I look in the in
the navy blue and white color scheme. So that's gonna
be my whole selling point to them. As ye know,
I wear navy blue all like. I like navy blue
color good. Navy blue, man, it is the color pretty
much of every team that you still But navy blue
and whites, what you know, IM not gonna don't worry
about me coming out with some kind of crazy ass
(16:45):
Maryland uniforms.
Speaker 3 (16:46):
Or anything like that. No, it's gonna be kind of
cool to look. I mean, those are good. Well, I
don't know, I like it.
Speaker 1 (16:51):
Sometimes you gotta get loud, like those things Oklahoma City
were wearing, like my eyes were burning.
Speaker 3 (16:56):
Yeah, yeah, I'm like, what color is that? It's not
quite a war are just not quite red? Are they glowing?
I'm not sure.
Speaker 1 (17:05):
He's on Twitter at Pete feutac. He also could be
the new head coach at all, miss Pete. What's happening?
Speaker 6 (17:09):
Man?
Speaker 3 (17:09):
How are you all right?
Speaker 6 (17:11):
I'm with you. I'm so I'm not. I'm an old guy,
I admit it. I literally cannot watch games like on
the Utah Jazz floor. Whatever they have with the with
the micro kovid can look like they're like cartoon characters
out there.
Speaker 3 (17:25):
It's interesting, man, it's weird. Pete.
Speaker 1 (17:27):
Wait till the end season tournament comes to college football.
They do that to all the fields. That's going to
be fantastic.
Speaker 2 (17:32):
You know.
Speaker 6 (17:33):
The blue turf are actually the red turf and Eastern
Washington unwatchable that one. That one's rough.
Speaker 3 (17:39):
But my kid's gonna be out next next year, Pete.
Speaker 6 (17:44):
The surf turfs, all right, I kind of I'm used
to that by now. That's a new that's an okay color,
So I'm good with that.
Speaker 3 (17:51):
All right.
Speaker 1 (17:51):
So here we are the latest developments with Lane Kiff.
We'll get into the playoff poll in a second couple
of players refuted his statement that he said, Hey, the
players wanted me to stay to coach the team. They
told me no. A couple of players say, yeah, that's
not how that went down in the meeting. Has there
been for strictly football reasons Pete a more unlikable head
(18:12):
coach in all of football in the last twenty five years?
Strictly football reasons more unlikely link everywhere he's been, they
they're so excited for him be laef like everywhere he's been.
Speaker 6 (18:23):
You mean, like Brian Kelly doesn't count.
Speaker 1 (18:26):
I mean they love Brian Kelly and Notre Dame all
the way we got them to a national championship game.
Speaker 6 (18:31):
They you know, oh they they do not They did
not like the whole game. But anyway, yeah, you're right. Look,
I get it. There's no easy way to do this.
I'm not a Wayne kiff an apologist. I honestly, I
know I should care about this. But whatever, So he's
going to go to LSU. All these SEC coaches are
going to be fired, you know. So it's like, okay,
(18:52):
you go go make generational wealth and then do something else.
But okay, you know it's when I here's the other question,
I'll ask you forget likability. Has there ever been this
much hubbub over a coach who's never really won anything
other than a Conference USA championship?
Speaker 3 (19:11):
It's fair? Yeah, yeah, no, absolutely, you know.
Speaker 1 (19:14):
I mean, I mean, that's a name, it's a guy
that we've known for what twenty some odd years, So
job off to job hop, hanging out with Saban like
all of those things.
Speaker 3 (19:24):
Yeah, I mean, at the points.
Speaker 6 (19:25):
Valid, I think it's I think it's been great. I mean,
other than the Raiders gig, I think he's always been good.
He was good at USC and they had the Reggie
Bush problem, which wasn't his fault. Uh, he would hammered them.
He had one good year at Tennessee before he left
for a better job at USC. He was great at
Florida Atlantic, and he's been the best coach in the
history of all of this football. So he is good,
(19:46):
and that's just kind of a big question. We've never
seen him at a job where he could just fully
go you know us Again, USC should have been it,
but it wasn't because of all those restrictions and the
penalty that they got hit with a Tennessee he was
only there for a year. So all right, let's see
what he can do with everything at his disposal, because
(20:07):
this is the only thing I could come up with.
And I don't mean to speak ill of the Seas,
but like it's maybe Mike Leach is the only coach
who there's a lot of stuff about, oh he's gonna
hear it. We never really won, but for Kiffin for this, okay,
you know, because remember when Saban took over the Bama job,
he had the LSU thing happened for him, you know,
(20:29):
so sometimes these things are warranted. But in this case, okay,
let's see.
Speaker 1 (20:34):
Yeah, it's just the curiosity, you know, with with his
statements and those those last few days and the number
of people standing for him to stick to stay on
for another month. I'm like, as LSU, do they just
want to issue a statement to just say no, this
wouldn't work for us.
Speaker 3 (20:51):
I mean, it just blows it all up right there.
Speaker 6 (20:53):
Right. Well, my biggest problem is, you know, like, well
I'm going to go pray on it, like, okay, come on, now,
it's God's fault if he's not staying around, you know,
like if God tells him, you know, go tick the
Yukon job. I don't think that's quite happening in his prayer,
you know. So it's just so disingenuous. It's like you
knew he was taking this gig. Everyone knew it. It
(21:15):
was just a question of how to land the plane.
And I get it, you know, he probably wants it's
by Ferris to the players that if he would be
coaching in you know, sort of this thing. But I
also get you'll miss thing of Okay, National Signing Day,
for whatever it's worth, is tomorrow and the whole Okay,
we want a Michigan man coaching Michigan sort of way.
Let's see what Pete Golding can do.
Speaker 1 (21:35):
All right, Pete, Now let's get to the college football
playoff poll. It's out. I saw you on fire today.
You're talking about jerry mandering with the polls, and hey,
look I agree, Alabama ahead of Notre Dame. They're telling
you were getting five SEC teams into the College Football Playoff,
And I gotta say, I can't fault a great strategy.
Speaker 3 (21:52):
Whatever.
Speaker 1 (21:53):
As the SEC did the College Football Playoff, pole listened,
They're going to do it well.
Speaker 6 (21:57):
They did it by hooks, like having ESPN have a
direct tie to them. Financially. But that's but look, it
looks bad. But first of all, and I've said this before,
the College Football Playoff CAMM be legitimately, really really sincerely
watched the best tournament there. There are no real alternative motives.
(22:17):
I mean, last year, you know the whole oh they
are so in the back of the SEC. Well then
last year they should have put in Alabama over SMU,
which was actually been the right thing, and they didn't
do it. That SMU is a ratings you know, death
blow in Alabama's Alabama and basic they didn't do it.
So I do get it. The problem with it is
why now? I mean because look, there's no rationale for it.
(22:39):
Because if you thought Notre Dame was better or should
have been ranked higher last week, well what changed? I
guess that. Okay, well, Alabama being a Vanderbilt team that's
blow out Tennessee. But whatever, Alabam tesse. How about Alabama
got clocked by the Florida stay team that just got
pants by Florida, a bad Florida Like you could do
this all the way around. There's nothing there other than
(23:01):
to buffer the possibility that uh oh, if BYU were
to upset Texas tech, that means the team that goes
to the SEC championship is out. So it just seemed
like a little it's a little too convenient of the
timing of this where everyone's you know who's saying, oh,
there's a bias here. Again. I don't think that's there
(23:22):
in terms of bias, but it sure does look bad
when you're kind of making sure that Okay, well, if
the College Football Playoff Committee keeps the plan from last year,
and this is the thing that your sech is not under,
your SEC is being really cagy about. And he will
not answer this question. I got on a call. I
didn't get answer my question or whatever my question is
going to be. This, are you saying that you are
(23:44):
not keeping the same rules from last year when you
said conference championship losers do not get punished and do
not drop. Because if that's the case, then nor name's safe,
nor name is fine. But he wouldn't say that. He
would just say, you know, well, you know, idle teams
will move. Well, yeah, if Aladema wins and some of
the teams that topple drop down a little.
Speaker 3 (24:05):
Yeah, it's the curiosity.
Speaker 1 (24:07):
Also, now that we've got the coaches slap fighting over
style points again Pete. So, I mean I think that's
got a fun little element that's cropped back up a
little bit.
Speaker 6 (24:16):
I mean, like, who's looks better than Notre Dame. I mean,
we can I know the schedule has been great since,
but again, they lost their first two games of the year.
You know, by you know, a play. You know you're
don't have a fumble snap or a miracle fourth down play.
I know this is all works. You know, everyone loses.
You know, do you lose, you lose, But still it's
it's something they got clocked by either one of the
(24:38):
by Miami or Texas. A and m those are as
close as it possibly gets against two elite teams. And
you know, I you know, Ralph LUSA thep just tweeted
out I'm with them, Like, if you're really doing this,
you know, why is he go home in this thing?
You know, why are you having a fifth SDC team
as opposed to what you have to do? Because Alabama's
got to be behind him at this point. But how
do you do that and say, okay, you or fifth
(25:00):
the SEC you should be ahead of Miami and Notre
Dame when objectively, if you watch these two teams, they
are two of the ten best teams in the country,
and I think either one of them at this point,
including Texas A and M with Notre Dame, I think
either one of these teams beats everybody in the SEC.
So we'll see, Pete.
Speaker 1 (25:18):
When when you see the way the playoff is right now,
do you see there being any way that next year
we're not at sixteen teams.
Speaker 6 (25:29):
It's tough. I mean, my kind of beef is the
same thing with the whole thing with a bubble of
the NCAA tournament, you're if you're on a bubble, you
don't deserve to be in the NCAA tournament. If we're
talking about you, as you know, the team that's on
the outs, well, something went wrong that didn't get you.
You didn't press enough to get in there. So you know,
look by you pucks on your sick son. You know
there's no whining. If you've been the Big twelve championship,
(25:51):
you're in. You know, so they get their shot to
get in this thing. You know, I get it if
you're Notre Dame. But you know, the schedule wasn't that
great after losing their two big game, so you know,
I do think that Tatina could actually win the national championship.
Speaker 1 (26:03):
I get it.
Speaker 6 (26:04):
I'll buy into that. And you know, so there's arguments
all the way around, but let's just keep winning, win
your conference championship and get in. If you don't win
your conference championship, you really don't have a legitimate beef
to get in this thing. And obviously that's the problem
for Notre Dame.
Speaker 3 (26:19):
All right.
Speaker 1 (26:19):
Now speak of the teams getting in. To bring it
back to miss Ole Miss for a second. Here they
are Obviously they didn't get the Jordan Travis. Hey, you're
bumped out of the playoff because you're head coach.
Speaker 3 (26:28):
Left, what do you.
Speaker 1 (26:29):
See for the old Miss team with Lane Kiff and gone? Now,
how do things go for them on the field through
the rest of this into the playoffs?
Speaker 6 (26:38):
I never believed them with Leeane Kiff. And the problem
is this style of play is cute and fun, and
if you can't hit the curve ball when they're going
fifty miles an hour, you're in trouble. But man, he
wasted that defense. You know, I know it rose up
against Oklahoma, but Oklahoma's offense has been kind of met.
But when you're going that fast against the elite team
(27:01):
who can run and pound the ball, then that time
of possession battle becomes a problem. So you know they're
gonna be you know, they're gonna be everyone's darling. Everyone's
gonna be rooting for him now. And you know, maybe,
you know, if they do have the attack to do
the offense to you the fire and it would be
a great story if they they went out there, and
you know, you know, Lane Kiffy, you know, if you
were still here, that'd be great. But Lane Kiffin's I
(27:22):
do actually believe he did want to coach in this
and all this kind of went now where you know,
you're Necker hanging around here. We're done with you, so
all right, it's just kind of an ugly, weird situation
all the way around.
Speaker 3 (27:33):
Yeah, it's say, the uncomfortable thing.
Speaker 1 (27:36):
But you know the old if you're gone, you stay
gone unless you be gone on the old bold fiction mine.
But we saw a bunch of coaches get new contracts
and extensions and raises during this process.
Speaker 3 (27:48):
A bunch of new hires Pat.
Speaker 1 (27:50):
Fitzgerald named and shows up in Michigan State went want
to know today wise Penn State still floundering, they lose
Sataki Chesney gonna go.
Speaker 3 (27:59):
To you c l A. And who's actually gonna end
up taking this job?
Speaker 6 (28:03):
Beat? I it's got to be someone who's still coaching
in the playoffs world, right, I mean like it's got
to be if they don't have someone yet, I don't
know if honestly, and it's gonna not make the fan
the fan base happy, but maybe Manny Diaz. You know,
look what he's done with Duke. I know they think
kind of this year, but Duke, and he was.
Speaker 1 (28:25):
The ac there, he was, he was he was Assistant
Coach of the Year twice. I think, right, yeah, yeah.
Speaker 6 (28:31):
He's actually been great with Duke in the last two years.
He's been great with Duke players. And maybe there's that
thought that, all right, well he's ready to make that
next step up. And who knows, if he, you know,
wins this or not, you know, and wins the a
SEC Championship, he might be in the College Football Playoff, which,
oh would that be hilariously fun. If If if Duke
(28:51):
wins the a SEC Championship and.
Speaker 1 (28:54):
Ain't, there's there's no way they take them, Pete, There's
no way that could happen is that?
Speaker 6 (28:59):
And then what do you and then what do you
do if let's say du Quin's the ACC championship and
the playoff committee is not doing the we're not punishing
conference championship losers thing, and so okay, we're not punishing
championship losers. So BYU dropped, which means Miami moves up.
And then you've got one fight. You're saying, Okay, we're
gonna put Miami eleventh and Notre Dame tenth. I don't
(29:21):
think so if you're talking about then you get to
the head to head, so you don't have an a
SEC champion in, but you have Miami in. Good luck
with selling that one. So this could get really messy
fun in a hurry.
Speaker 1 (29:36):
You can fall him on Twitter at Pete Feutech. That
is at Pete Feutech. Checkout college Footballnews dot com. You're
one stop shopping for everything college football, all the picks,
all the prognostications you want. Pete will talk to your Fridays,
will preview championship Saturday.
Speaker 6 (29:51):
Let's go basically all chalk, all talks Friday.
Speaker 1 (29:55):
Maybe I have more coaching, Garasel, be good, buddy, Thank
you always, great stuff. With p feu Tech.
Speaker 3 (30:00):
You know the funny thing.
Speaker 1 (30:01):
Look, Manny Diaz is a great defensive coach. Yeah, Duke
is not great, but they're still in the ACC Championship
and maybe they pull off with there's no way they
take them. But yeah, I can easily see Penn State
saying all right, we've been told no by a lot
of guys. Let's go back to someone who was here,
who knows the situation. Again, he was a finalist. I
think he was Defensive Coach of the Year or Assistant Coach.
Speaker 3 (30:24):
Of the Year once.
Speaker 1 (30:25):
He was nominated for twice, one of the five finalists
while at Penn States. So yeah, I gotta think I
would get my odds in on him pretty quick because
I think that might depending on how things go Saturday.
Speaker 3 (30:35):
I got my odds as if yesterday he was ten
to one.
Speaker 1 (30:38):
Right now, let's find out what's trending in the wide
world of sports from special delivery Steve de Seger, who
is ten to one to tell you that the Knicks
Celtics game, despite the factor was on Peacock, actually happened
tonight and some people did get to see it.
Speaker 4 (30:52):
It did happen, and that's an elf in the Knicks.
We just deal with the news, Steve, Thanks buddy. Playoff
committee rankings did come out tonight. In college football, Ohio
State in Indiana are one two, and this Saturday night
on Fox TV the Battle of the twelve and O teams.
Number one Ohio State against number two Indiana for the
Big Ten title in Indianapolis. Georgia is number three, Texas
(31:16):
Tech is number four. Now the top four will get
first round bys. Oregon is number five, ole Miss is
up to six, then number seven Texas A and M
and number eight Oklahoma and yes, this Friday, number twenty
two Lane hosts number twenty four North Texas in the
American Conference finals, so the winner should make the playoff.
James Madison and the Sun Belt is number twenty five,
(31:37):
still with eight chance to go. By the way, first
rounders are at campus sites and as of now, a
first round matchup would have notreed aime opening the playoff
at Texas A and M and an Alabama would play
at Oklahoma. For example, Miami is still ranked number twelve,
does not play this week. Instead, it's Duke in the
ACC title game against number seventeen Virginia. Ole Miss offensive
(31:59):
coordinator Charlie Wise Junior will stay with the team for
the playoffs, then leave for LSU. Five other assistants already
left BYU. Head coach Kalanie Sataki gets a long term
extension from BYU. He'll stay despite interests from Penn State
about their coach.
Speaker 3 (32:13):
Opening.
Speaker 4 (32:13):
Texas Tech gave coach Joey McGuire a new seven year contract.
Boston College coach Bill O'Brien will return to BC. Col's
new head coach will be Tosh Lupoye. He's Oregon's defensive coordinator.
Auburn is retaining defensive coordinator DJ Durkin, and the new
coach at North Texas is due to be Neil Brown
X of West Virginia. Detroit lyons wide receiver i'm and
(32:35):
Ross Saint. Brown did not practice again today due to
his sprained ankle. Detroit plays this Thursday, hosting Dallas. The
Steelers claimed wide receiver Adam thielenof Waivers from Minnesota. The
coltswave kicker Michael Badgley and signed Blake Groupie X of
New Orleans. Kicker Justin Tucker also tried out for that job.
This month's Packers at Bear's game will be on a
Saturday night, December twentieth, opposite a college playoff game. Also
(32:58):
on that Saturday, another NFL game, Philadelphia at Washington. In
the NBA's late game, well, it looks like Oklahoma City
might be winning a thirteenth straight game. Mid third quarter,
They're ahead at Golden State seventy two to sixty two.
This would put the Thunder at twenty one and one.
Boston beat the next one twenty three one seventeen forty
(33:19):
two points for Jalen Brown. Jalen Brunson of the next
six of twenty one shooting eleven of sisths and Minnesota
did get forty four points from Anthony Edwards. In an
overtime win at New Orleans, Philly ripped Washington. Tyrese Maxi
scored thirty five. Joel Enbta the Sixers was out with
a sortnee. He just returned Sunday after missing nine games.
(33:39):
The NBA Player of the Month in the West Denvers
Nikola Jokic. In the East, Detroit's k Cunningham Danilo Gala
Nari officially retired to college basketball. North Carolina won at
Kentucky sixty seven sixty four. Yukon ranked fifth one at
Kansas sixty one fifty six, Duke at Home Edge, Florida
sixty seven, sixty six, Syracuse I Feed number thirteen, Tennessee
(34:01):
sixty two to sixty number twenty four. USC has won
its Big ten opener at Oregon eighty two to seventy seven.
NHL wins for the Islanders in Colorado, Rangers in overtime
beat Dallas three to two, and in the late game
in LA, Capitals lead with thirteen minutes left over the
Kings two to one, and the Blue Jays are giving
a three year contract right handed pitcher Cody Ponce, MVP
(34:23):
in the Korean League.
Speaker 1 (34:24):
Back to you, Thank you, Steve O. The Jason Smith
Show with My best friend Mike Harmon. Coming up next,
we get back into the NFL and after a big
personnel move today, we will tell you without a doubt,
who the most desperate team in the NFL is. It's
next right here, Jason and Mike Fox.
Speaker 2 (34:41):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific, Run Jason Run.
Speaker 1 (34:51):
Fox Sports Radio The Jason Smith Show with My best
friend Mike Harmon. Jason Why are you walking in so
quietly like you tiptoed or something?
Speaker 3 (35:00):
Going to tippytoe? Tippytoe? What are you hiding? Not hiding?
What did you do? Far as you know, what did
you do? I got a soda, Jason, I gotta I
gotta diet doctor Pepper doing. I gotta diet Dr Pepper.
It's all I did. We're tiptoeing down the hallway. But
we heard you squeak. I gotta diet doctor Pepper. That's
allaky sneakers, That's all that happened. Many the printer law.
(35:21):
What are you doing?
Speaker 1 (35:22):
Don't start saying things that aren't true. Man, I got
a diet doctor Pepper.
Speaker 3 (35:26):
That's all. He's printing things like the Internet is going
to go down. That's all it is.
Speaker 1 (35:29):
Oh good, Hello kettle, this is Frozburg. Okay, those you're
keenan to Alan's stats? Okay, just printing out every picture
on the Internet just in case it goes down. We
had to like that that progressive commercial. Okay, we don't
need to print the internet. Oh I got the progressive
right here in my We don't. We don't need to
print the internet, just so you know.
Speaker 3 (35:50):
Uh so, was it work safe?
Speaker 1 (35:53):
Everything is work safe, as far as you know, as
far as everything is works it, then why were you
hiding he works it diet doctor pepper.
Speaker 3 (36:00):
It's all it was. They still have twenty three flavors.
All it was, yes, and I.
Speaker 1 (36:03):
Taste all twenty three. Really, Uh well maybe maybe sixteen seventeen.
Sometimes six seven.
Speaker 3 (36:09):
I don't think you're peal. It's that town even six seven.
Speaker 4 (36:12):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (36:12):
So you want to know who the most desperate team
in the NFL is? You tell by a big personnel
move they made. Yes, No, No, we're not desperate. We
just think the most desperate. I mean that's a long
term desperation. There's difference, Yeah, the Raiders. I mean, yeah,
there's there's teams it is. Yeah, that is if you
were if you were living under the dome like that
Stephen King TV show and book where it did the
(36:34):
entire town is all desperation. Oh, you actually did write
a book with the title with the town was desperation.
Figure out the most desperate team in the NFL. You
could tell because they went out and signed Adam Feeling today,
the Pittsburgh Steelers steel and who asked for his release
so we could go and potentially play somewhere else. The
Steelers went out and got Adam feeling.
Speaker 3 (36:55):
Well, it was interesting.
Speaker 1 (36:56):
Is his wife put out a video where it was
wasn't even talking about winning, It was just being Himmel
to play.
Speaker 3 (37:02):
Yeah, not winning. I just want to be able to play.
Speaker 1 (37:05):
I wish you would have just named McCarthy and Brosemer
while she was at it, because even if he's on
the field, they're not getting into him. I want to say, like,
isn't this like the third team feelings asked for his
release from me because he's not catching the foot. That's
all right, right, like Carolina and now Max to Minnesota.
But this is how he's not feeling Minnesota. This is
how desperate the Steelers are that I'm sure, because what
(37:27):
is this move? How do we make Aaron Rodgers any
good again? Well, we gotta go get We can't. We
can't bring somebody in that is not a veteran, that's
not someone who can pick up the offense fast. It's
not someone that Aaron can give a look to and
he understands to sit down, down low or get over
the middle. Yeah, let's go get Adam feeling. We're so
desperate for anything with this offense.
Speaker 3 (37:48):
We'll go get a.
Speaker 1 (37:49):
Guy who was good five years ago, because that's the
Steelers are great. They're great at getting guys who are
good five years ago. That is a big Steeler strength. Man, Hey,
were you good in twenty twenty, Well, yeah, come on in.
We're gonna bring you in here and give you a job.
We're not gonna pay you a lot of money, but
we're gonna bring you here and give you a chance
because you were good five years ago. Yeah, they don't
they don't have any money left. Remember we chronicled it
earlier in the show. You got to listen to the
(38:11):
whole thing, different conversation. But now we extend it to
the Adam Thielen addition. You go back in twenty twenty three,
he had one hundred receptions, right, one hundred and three
catches twenty twenty four, forty eight for this year for
the Vikings.
Speaker 3 (38:26):
He's got eight. And now you go to Pittsburgh and
it goes back to the.
Speaker 1 (38:30):
Conversation we were having of the Daniel Stern look alike
Aaron Rodgers, the home alone look with the bandage and
black eyes and everything that Aaron Rodgers calling out John
new Smith, I'm sure, he's a professional and it's killing
him and eating him up and all that stuff talking
about guys running the wrong routes, and they have had
an issue with the younger receivers. They also have an
(38:51):
issue with the fact that Rogers can't, or at least
to this point through thirteen weeks, has been unwilling to
really work the ball down. The average intended air yards
per attempt is five point nine, tied with Dylan Gabriel.
Now it's like five point eight four, five point eight five.
So I was rounding up to be nice. That's nice
(39:15):
to you that that is deserally nice. It's good because
if anybody needs the rounding up, it's Aaron. Yeah, what
we're talking about is the average depth isn't there, and
that's where Feeling operates always did, had the opportunity to
go downfield. But he's one of those guys move those
chains and right now for the Steelers they need a
little bit more of that keep the defense off the field.
(39:36):
But for Aaron Rodgers, what's funny is they're still the
upper half in terms of scoring for the year. As
bad and as as discombobulated as it's been all season.
I mean, look, it's it's so. The Steelers are so
desperate that this is where they are. We're gonna go
get a guy and bring him in and give him
(39:57):
a decent role on the team. Right, you know you're
not gonna he he wanted to be let go where
he could go, get a bigger role somewhere and catch footballs.
He's not signing with the Steelers unless they said, hey man,
we need something. Okay, all the moves we made, nothing
is working. Our team is terrible. Everybody's finding out the
Emperor has no clothes. This is so, and it's so
(40:17):
we got to do something to get Aaron Rodgers going,
which I'm telling you two more weeks and it's gonna
be Will Hocketchew, Roman Wilson, Scottie Miller, Calvin Auston third,
my guy Scaronic from Northwestern the artist formerly known as
DK Metcalf and now Adam Thielen. Yeah, I get ready
the desperation of the Pittsburgh Steelers. Wow, exit out about
(40:38):
a Fresco exit swollen Dome. Coming up next, we get
back into the biggest football story of the day. Jason
and Mike.
Speaker 3 (40:45):
This is Fox
