What else you gonna do with your phone for the
next few minutes? Look at pictures of food your friends

(00:43):
eight again Call one eight eight Farmers. That's one eight
eight eight farmers for a quote, We are farmers. Before
we get back into the fallout of the big NFL
trades today by the Dolphins and the Eagles and the
forty Niners. Um, I think even the staunchest Laker fan

(01:05):
I would have to admit that if the Lakers lose
tonight to the Cavaliers, right, No Lebron, no a d
the Cavalier stink. No, Colin Sexton, He's not playing tonight.
If the Lakers lose to the Cavaliers, you are hitting
that panic button like people in the zombie movie do
when they get to a point where they can hit
a button to close it like a metal door in
front of the zombies, and they're just hitting it like crazy.

(01:26):
Come on, the doors, gotta close, the doors gotta close.
That's how much they'll be hitting that panic button. I
mean it. I don't know why the Lakers didn't do
anything in the trade deadline. Kyle Lowry made all the
sense in the world. We talked about this last night.
How many how much longer does Lebron James have you're
trying to win now, I mean, Lebron's got a two
year window here where he's still Lebron James. Kyle Lowry

(01:47):
is still a really good player. I don't get why
the Lakers wouldn't pull the trigger to help them. Look,
we talked about it last night. Now that you've had
twenty four hours to think about it, I think you
look at Lakers in the Calves and you go, yeah,
the Lakers lose to the Calves. Man that that that
that button is just now it's the largest button in
the world. For what it's worth. I have had the
red light, you know, glowing right spinning as you know.

(02:09):
I don't need the sirens to go with it, but
certainly just a change of the lighting to make sure
you know there's a problem here. Okay, it's not a
black light, it's not a blue light. Special you've got problems.
This is the emergency room because you're you're without your
two best players by far right, and who's generating things?

(02:31):
Uh in this offense. The fact that you wouldn't part
with Taylor Horton Tucker over what might be there, right,
the old p word potential and you made that the
the lynch pin and everything that's problematic. I know he's
on a friendly deal. I know it's all good, and
potential is there. You've got a chance to win now,
as you say, it is the window of Lebron James.

(02:52):
This is two out of three years where his body
is failing. Now, obviously this comes off a freak injury,
but it's still a four to six week injury nonetheless,
and that doesn't live you know that, that doesn't take
away from it, doesn't minimize it, because it's still a
serious injury and they start to mount and we start
playing the wacky Doctor's game operation with little parts of

(03:14):
Lebron James that have been injured. Not to mention Anthony Davis,
you thought he'd answered all the questions last year in
terms of durability. Well, now he's hurt and you have
no idea the severity Right there, they're doing a bunch
of euphemisms and coach speak in terms of when he's
going to be reevaluated, how he's coming along. It's like,
all it says to me is he ain't available for
a while. So unless this is one big rope a dope,

(03:38):
these guys are not coming back either. So you need
reinforcements and you don't have them. The Lakers put out
a statement today saying that he continues to work his
way back. He's clear to be the next level his rehab,
but nothing is clear. When nothing is clear and they
don't say this is where he's at here specifics, that
means you are still a long way off, right. You

(03:59):
get very specific, thick, it's very specific. You get very
specific when you know a guy is getting close. Hey,
he's close. It may be another week, it maybe ten days.
But he's close, and you would get some kind of
actual breakdown of the injury. Here's what he can do,
here's what he needs to be able to do before
he comes back. But there's none of it. It's just grand,
sweeping generalizations which tells you that he's a long way

(04:20):
from coming back. And the look, I've told you in
three days, the Lakers could be in seventh place, and
then they could be in eighth place. Then suddenly you're
talking about a playing game. But all of that change.
If the Lakers lose to the Cavaliers tonight, you're gonna
see it's gonna be danger, danger, danger. Not that a
win makes things better, but boy, a loss to the
Cavaliers are really bad team. That's basically an expansion team

(04:41):
playing right now. That's really bad team. Really, the Knicks
are so much better. Knicks would come on. The Knicks
owned the Cavaliers. We win by fifty every time we play. Listen,
I say great things about the Browns. I'm a big
believer in the Browns. You know what, Cleveland sports fans
can take what I say about the Cavaliers. Let's see,
right now, the leading score for the calvs down to

(05:03):
with about a minute and a half left in the
first quarter is Larry Nance Jr. Na. Let's see Darius
Garland has four two of two for the field. Hey
there's d Wade uh teen? Hello Dean, Uh yeah. And
as you said, no Sexton. So remember once upon a

(05:24):
time the expectation was that Kevin Porter Jr. Was going
to become a twenty point a night guy, but he
had his issues and uh well, not there. We'll keep
you posted on this game. Lakers with a four point
lead late in the first quarter. It is twenty two
to eighteen. Dennis Shrewder carrying the Lakers right now with
six points. But listen, we've looked at the big trade today,

(05:46):
the two big trades in the NFL. The Dolphins trade
out of number three with the San Francisco forty Niners,
and then they trade to get a little bit back
higher in the first round with the Philadelphia Eagle. So basically,
at the end of the day, the forty Niners are
picking third, the Dolphins are picking six, and the Eagles
are now picking later on in the first round. So

(06:06):
that's kind of what you need to know of of
these trades that go. Here's the first round. Here at
first or first. But for this draft, that's what you
need to know. And the thing is is that I
shake my head because there is no team that handles
things more awkwardly and in bad ways than the Eagles do. Okay,
they they just don't know how to run the business

(06:27):
part of the NFL. They're they're one of the huge
messes we don't talk about. Look, we usually talk about
the Jets and the Lions and the right. Oh no,
the Eagles are saying, we're making a big run of
being such a mess. Not because they handle things the
wrong way. They just don't know the right way to
push them and handle here. And here's what I mean
by that. So today the Eagles decide, and you know

(06:48):
Howie Roseman's a GM, they decide, we want to try
to make a push up to get to number three,
to try to get Zach Wilson as our quarterback. And
they pull the plug on that right. All morning it was, Hey,
the Eagles are trying to move up to number three.
They're trying wept number three. They like Zack Wilson. And
then they don't do it because they most likely realized

(07:08):
the Jets are taking Zach Wilson at number two. It's
another big piece of evidence that Zack Wilson's gonna be
the Jets quarterback. And I would be wearing Zach Attack
t shirts next year to be Zacking with the head band.
It's gonna be a picture of Mark Zach Zach. You
give me a big face melter. It is Zack Attack,
Zack Attack. So you know that they're not gonna that.
That's where the Jets are gonna go. So what do

(07:29):
the Eagles do? They pull back and they trade lower
where they're now not going to get a quarterback. So
all they've succeeded in doing today is pissing off Jalen
Hurts and pissing off their fan base because hey, we're
gonna go up and get a quarterback. Oh no, no,
now we're not. We couldn't get the guy we wanted.
So if you're Jalen Hurts, you go from Okay, they
put confidence in me by trading away Carson wentz to

(07:50):
now they have no confidence because they's tried to trade
up for a quarterback and then the worst thing possible
they pulled back and didn't do it. I mean not
the teams don't do things like this, but the way
the Eagles handle things are so awkward and it's it's
it's like I watched them and I go, oh, I
wouldn't do it that way. Oh, I I wouldn't do
that that way. Well, I don't know that I would
do it that way. The whole handling of Carson Wentz

(08:13):
being benched and coming back, and then who had the
big power, whether it was Carson Wentz and Jeffrey Lourie
who like Carson Wentz but then he was talked out
of it, and then you had Doug Peterson who was
able to do whatever he wanted to with the quarterbacks
and play Jalen Hurts and sit Jalen Hurts. Not that
what they're doing doesn't have merit. Look, the Eagles had
to move on from Carson Wentz. Uh did Doug Peterson

(08:35):
have to go? Probably? Uh? Do they need to commit
to Jalen Hurts at least for this year? They do?
I get what they I I get that's business. They
just don't know how to go about it because there's
different ways of trying to go about moving up in
the draft without upsetting your income and quarterback or being
able to move on from a quarterback when a situation
is really bad. You don't let it fester as long
as you did when you know this is gonna be

(08:57):
the outcome. You let a head coach sit around when
you know, hey, just gonna get rid of them at
some point. It's like the Eagles that either they they're
not on the same page when it comes to owner
GM and in front office, or they just really don't
know how to act. And either way it doesn't matter
because it comes across as so awkward and it's hard
to believe in them as evaluators and as leaders and
as and as a front office and ownership that really

(09:18):
knows what it's doing. You know, I look back and
I go, how lucky were they to win the Super Bowl?
I mean, it's just everything just worked out for them,
because ever since then, it's been a steady downhill turn
for a team that was a Super Bowl champion, and
they just get worse every year. And they had the
same quarterback and they had some of the same players,
and it just couldn't find a way to even keep
it going for another year or be some kind of

(09:40):
Super Bowl threat and be a big time playoff threat.
It's just so awkward how they deal with situations and
they manifest itself and it festers in public and it
upsets the fans and upsets and then it's written about
in the media, and of course that gets into the
players what the players think about their treatment. I mean,
the Eagles just need to understand and need go to
some kind of class where hey, when you want to

(10:01):
accomplish a this is the way to do it. Don't
do it this way because this is just gonna torpedo yourselves.
That's how the Eagles acting. They try to pull business well.
But you know what, we were talking with Jay Glazer
last week and going into the the idea, the NFL model,
going away from the Russell Wilson style that we talked

(10:22):
about the last hour, the idea of here's all the
young guys and if you get it right dot dot dot,
if you get it right, uh, with all those draft
picks and you take your shots. And some teams are
still operating that way. Other teams went into the veteran mode,
and specifically we talked about what the Tampa Bay Buccaneers

(10:43):
were this past year and he cited and I think
it's Stuteley, So what the the Eagles had done right
for the most part, a veteran squad and guys that
were probably hitting that tipping point. And you know what,
as soon as they won the Super Bowl, they all
jumped over the edge, every one of and broke down physically.
And last year they couldn't keep a team on the field.

(11:04):
Not to specifically address Jalen Hurts in this situation, Look,
if he's gonna have the same problem Carson Wentz, is
he haint your guy either? Okay, well, if you bring
in competition for any job, all ye out there at
at your jobs, yes, you protect your territory, but you
also have to say, hey, I'm good at what I
what I do and you know blank the competition right whatever,

(11:27):
whatever it is, fair fight, I'm the man, I'm the woman.
I'm I'm the one that's coming out on top. And
for Carson Wentz from all reports and we're not in
that locker room, but did you ever see anything that
was contrarian reporting that? No, no, no, he was still
resolved that he was gonna be the guy and he
fought like hell no, everything was that he turtled. So

(11:48):
if you go to make this same move, Jalen Hurts
has to be a professional, because he just went through this.
He was the guy and he knows that it's a business.
He already saw that in college, he saw it last year.
So if he's gonna turn at all because or become
you know, that malcontent because they were looking at potentially
other options, well then he hain't the guy I want

(12:09):
there either. You have to have the As much as
we've kind of mocked, I think some of the bristling,
more of the language than anything else from Aaron Rodgers,
it was yeah, okay, you drafted the guy, blank him,
I go on to win the m v P. That's
what Jalen hurts has to be laser focus, moving ahead,
doesn't matter how ham handedly the front office operates and

(12:31):
whatever fights are there, and it's the Philadelphia media, so
what's gonna happen. They're gonna get scraps and it's gonna
be like those cool videos you see of Hey, you
didn't realize there were fifty gators in that still water, now,
did you? That's kind of what it happens with every
new story there in Philly. So now you gotta cut
through the noise, recognize they're gonna get you in an
asset where they're at in the draft whether it's another

(12:54):
wide receiver, whether it's another offensive lineman, there's going to
be he's some help for you because you know they
already signed Joe Flacco and he's elite. He Oh, well,
that's the thing. If something falters, he's gonna wind up
starting like nine games this year. Oh no, I have
no doubts that he will. But I think for Jalen Hurts,
you've got to be a professional, and but you control

(13:15):
what you control. No, I get that. But here's where
I disagree with you, because just look at it from
this perspective. You're a player on the Eagles, right, what's
the one thing you don't want any You don't want
your answer to be when someone tells you, hey, what
the hell are you guys doing? You don't want your
answer to be I don't know, But that's your answer
if you play on the Philadelphia Eagles, Because what have
you seen over the course of the past four months,

(13:36):
Your longtime quarterback that had problems staying on the field,
that had problems with the players. Finally they're moving on
from Okay, we go to our new quarterback and he's
pretty good, right. He comes in, he he likes a
bit of a spark. He's not great spiker. He put
up he put up a lot. He put up a
lot of yards, and you know, both passing and running
the football, he showed he out of spark, right, So anyway, okay,

(13:57):
he's all right, he's our guy, and maybe we can
ride behind him. He won a couple of games, all right,
he's our guy. Then you get to the final week
of the season, and while you're trying to win a
game and beat your longtime division rival and stop them
from getting to the playoffs, your head coach says, you
know what, I'm going to Sudfeld and I'm gonna I'm
gonna bench Jalen Hurts because it's about the draft and
we don't really need to win this game. So now

(14:18):
you're an Eagles fan, Eagles player, and you're saying, okay,
now I don't really get what coaches doing and how
dare you been there? There was no, that was a
tank job, and there was no that that day. There
was no Sean Payton promise that I promised Nate Sudfeld
he'd get the second half of this game. No, no,

(14:39):
there was no promise. So now you're an Eagles player
and you go, Okay, now I don't get what we're doing,
and now I don't trust coach. And so that you
get to the off season and you trade Carson Wentz.
You got all right, now, I understand, all right, Jalen
Hurts as our quarterback. Then you go through today where
the Eagles tried to move up to get a different
quarterback and now you couldn't do it. So now if
you're an Eagles player, you're going I don't know who
our quarterback is. I don't know we're trying to do.

(15:00):
I don't know if we're starting over. I don't know
if we're trying to reload. I don't know what we're doing.
Because the Eagles don't know how to handle things. That's
why it's not just about Jalen Hurts. You wanted to
be in a positive frame of mind, but we also
want the team to know, Okay, we get what we're doing.
We know what we're doing here, we know, okay, this
is our quarterback. Oh no, now it's not. There was
four different times now the Eagles said, I think this
is our quarterback, and now you're not even sure. So

(15:22):
that's why it's such a big deal because the Eagles
just can't figure out a way to go about things
the right way. So so the players can say, a right,
I have confidence. I know what our messages, I know
what we're doing, I know where we're going. I appreciate
all of that. They were still better than the Jets's.
Jets don't have anything to do with this. But you
can't just bring up the Jets as a punchline. Who
do you think you are? Good? That was an overhand right, right,

(15:49):
you think even with all of those problems, it's like,
you know, doing the Carl Ryder's speech. So with the
you know, and get past this and get past the
elevators and the guy who with the guns. We still
and even though they had no offensive lineman at Jason
Peters Duck taped himself together to get back on the field,
and this guy missed nine games and that guy mistaking,

(16:10):
they still finished better than Yes, you can't. You can't
just do that, man. I mean, look, I understand you're
upset because Andy Dalton Jr. QB one, I get it.
I understand that, But you just can't just throw the
Jets in like that. Yeah, but it was funny. Be
sure to catch live editions of the Jason Smith Show
with Mike Harman weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven pm

(16:30):
Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the I Heart Radio app.
What's up, everyone, It's me three times in NFL All
Pro Shawn Marine and I have a new sports podcast
called The lights Out Podcast with Shawn Marin. This podcast
especial to me is I get a chance to talk
to some of the best we've ever done it on
the field or the trap. So whether it's talking to

(16:50):
a Super Bowl champion for a NASCAR Cup Series champion,
the lights Out Podcast will bring it to you the
only way I know how to. I'm giving you the
best insight from the best we've done it. Listen to
lights Out with Shawn called the iHeart Radio App or
wherever you get your podcast. Call one eight Farmers and
you could say when your auto insurance, it's better than
using your phone to see if your post got any

(17:11):
likes again, call one eight eight Farmers to get a quote.
We are farmers and written my FARMERSOK. Freinsurance to changes
there and every state. Right now, Laker fans are going
I'm not panicking. I'm not panicking. We're losing to the Cavaliers.
They stink they're best players not playing. I'm not I'm
not panicking. I'm not panicking. It's a three point game.

(17:33):
Cavaliers lead the Lakers right now thirty eight thirty five,
six minutes to go before halftime. And uh, yeah, the
Lakers lose this game. Yeah, good luck trying to convince
anybody the Lakers are still gonna be your title favorites.
Lebron's out for four to six weeks. A D is
going to be out a long time. Uh, they could
be in eighth place in a week, and then it's

(17:54):
a very short jump to tenth place and then suddenly, hey,
you're in a playing game. I mean, it could get
that ugly for the Lakers that fast. We're building out
the nightmare scenario. You're talking. We got deep into that
Snyder cut, you know, I mean seriously that that's the
way it is for the Lakers, is that they're not winning.

(18:14):
They don't they First of all, they they didn't win
without a D and now is no a D and
Lebron and they haven't physically one at all since Lebron
got hurt. Who are they going to beat If they
can't beat the Cavaliers tonight, they're gonna lose almost every
single they could have. They could have like some kind
of Houston Rockets type losing streak coming up, where look
at what's happening to us, Look at look what's got

(18:35):
we We can't win anything. And suddenly there close to
five team And when you're close to five hundred, you're
in Golden State Warriors territory. Now you're hoping, hey, Steph
can be healthy and and and score forty points a
game for the next couple of weeks and we can
win some games. And the Lakers are in some serious
trouble and that gets magnified if they lose tonight to
the Cavaliers. Well, because we've talked about it all all

(18:56):
season long, and going back to last year as related
to the glee with which people beat the hell out
of the Golden State Warriors, tell me it's not the
same thing with the Lakers. Even though it was a
one year run. They assembled their team and they went
right back to winning a title. So how many how
many guys are now sitting there going, hey, we can
get some run by piling on the Lakers and what

(19:19):
they're putting out here right now because we get to
be the next team to beat them and try to
send them careening down the Western Conference standings. I have
no doubt they're printed out and there's no easy out
right Golden State. They're getting drubbed right now by Atlanta
early third quarter, But on any given night, if they're
shooting well, they're a threat. You know, once Steph Curry

(19:41):
comes back from his uh lower lumbar discomfort and then
you're looking at you know, even Sacramento has been playing
better of late. They've had some pretty big scoring outputs.
So there's no easy wins on the schedule, and it's
gonna be long two months except for you know what,
it's time for your base Twitter it out about a

(20:04):
fresca Mike and swollen don't. We'll keep you updated on
this game throughout the night because it's one of those
one of those games where wow, it really could get bad,
but really quick. You know, you mentioned the Snyder cut
right and and you know here in Phoenix, what one
of the big things are our friends were staying here.
We're in the Mobile Farmers Insurance studios with me in
Phoenix this weekend and Harmon back in Los Angeles. Our
friends are huge Marvel d c you know, comic book

(20:26):
movie fans, right, So it's great. Their kids, their kids
are into it. Zoe is so into it. It's awesome.
So we decided today I told you to watch the
Snyder cut, and I'm going, okay, okay, boy, we're really
just all right, we're gonna bite the bullet on this.
And I told you I didn't hate it. And we're
about three hours in. We're we're we're five parts in, right,
It's it's in six parts, right, so we're five parts
And really, I know, I know we got that in

(20:49):
that blog. I told we have a long time to
go in this. We got a long way to go.
And I'm watching this and I'm saying to myself, you know,
I don't hate it. And if it was just like this,
because I don't mind some of the long stuff they
have in there. But if they had done this and said, Okay,
here's this four and a half hour cut, and you
find a way to have a great uh, you gotta

(21:10):
have some kind of of of cliffhanger at the end
of the first one. You can't just say here's the
first part and we're gonna roll into the second part
in six months. Now, you need you need some kind
of Infinity War type you know, uh closing you you
need you need that. So if you had done this
movie right, and the first part ends with and I'm
not I'm not adding anything, you're not spoiling anything new

(21:31):
that's in it. But if you end it with the
cliffhanger of they resuscitate Superman and he starts kicking everybody's ass,
you know, he's almost killing Batman and Wonder Woman and Aquaman.
If you made that the cliffhanger, people would go, whoa,
whoa is Superman a bad guy? Is he gonna be
a basy? This is he? That? Oh my, it would

(21:51):
be It would have been such a great cliffhanger. And
then you say, hey, part two was coming up in
six months, and then Part two adjustly would be even
bigger than this one, and d C would finally say,
oh my goodness, we we finally put something together. We
finally put something together that's got legs on it that
people like. It would have been great had they done
it that way. I mean, obviously, now time has gone past,
they put out the movie and now we're getting Zack

(22:13):
Snyder's cut. But had they done that, you're talking about
what could be the first legendary ish d C movie
that you have that that doesn't involve just Batman in
the title. Right, wonder Woman was terrific. Right, you saw
Wonder Woman eighty four and boy was that terrible? You
would you would have had your big Avengers type hit
here with Justice League, and it would still be Hey,
I gotta see three more movies. I want to see

(22:34):
more of these Justice League movies because it was done
so well. Had they released it that way, it would
have been it would have been incredibly big hit. Yeah.
I suspect you may have actually already watched all the
movie by the way you speaking. No, No, we stopped
the end of We stopped the end of part five.
We stopped the end of the movie. So I know
how the regular movie end, haven't how the Snyder cut ends. Yeah,

(22:54):
I would just say this, there are, as you've seen
already for three hours, there are a number of off
ramps into other movies, right, and other storytelling. And if
you can't tell by the end of our three of
the film, uh, you've had a lot going on with Cyborg. Now,
I know that there's a bunch of legal ease and
and the actor Ray Fisher that played him a lot

(23:17):
of allegations against Josh Weeden and it got ugly. But
there there's certainly some meat there, right. You know you
fleshed out no pun intended, uh, that character a whole
bunch uh in the early part of that film. But yeah,
there there's no doubt you could spawn a complete Marvels,
you know, Phase two cinematic universe coming out of this

(23:40):
movie the way it was done. For four hours, I
promise you the last hour, we'll give you some more
offshoots off of what you've seen so far. Man, I'm
telling you that I just saw that vision and going,
I see I could have been I could have been
great for Warner Brothers. I could have helped them. I
could have given them an Avengers type of vehicle. I
could have done that. I could have done it. Echoes. Well,

(24:00):
that's all I'm gonna say. Enjoy the final hour, Twitter,
and how about a fresca. Mike gets swollen down the
Jason Smith Show with my best friend Mike Harman live
from the Farmers Insurance studios. Hey switched to Farmers Insurance.
You could save a whole lot of something on auto
insurance called one at triple aight Farmers, a big quarterback

(24:21):
that you're not expecting to take a big step next year,
who not only has to, he's going to be sure
to catch live editions of The Jason Smith Show with
Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven pm Pacific.
And you know, earlier this hour we talked about the
Dolphins and how the trades they made today. They move
out of number three in the draft, so the Niners
come up and get the number three overall pick. Uh,

(24:43):
they're still picking six. They make two trades and make
another one with the Philadelphia Eagles. They've added another first
round pick, and and we told you how they could
really turn into the new Seahawks as the Seahawks had
their mini dynasty run of a great three four year
run because they had so many great players under first
contract X contracts that were first round contracts and some
that were second, third and fourth round contracts. But it

(25:05):
really comes to it, they're gonna need to a tug
of vloa to come through. And you know, Mike, I
know you talked about how you can move on from him,
right you give him this year and if not, you
have the ammunition to go get another quarterback. You can
get what in free agency, you can move up in
the draft to get one because you have that draft capital.
You can do that if you want to. But I'm
telling you maybe I believe into a little bit more

(25:26):
than everybody else does in the fact as a Jet fan,
I'm telling you this is to what is gonna be fine.
He had a fine rookie season. There were just games where,
instead of being allowed to play it through and nobody
would have paid any attention to it, they brought in
Ryan Fitzpatrick to win a game. And hey, the Dolphins
stayed in playoff contention all the way through the season.
That brought a lot of eyeballs to things because normally

(25:48):
cornerbacks are out there and you gotta make your own
mistakes and learn your way through it. But the Dolphins thought,
you know what, we can still win this game. I
don't want to give a game away. And it worked.
When I watched two a play, I watched a guy
who needed to kind of you know, when I like
to get in the pool when a pool is cold,
I don't just jump right in. I like to go
in and stand up like up to my up to

(26:08):
my knees, a bit and get used to the way.
Then I go up to like the middle of my
thighs a little bit, then I get up to my belly,
and then I get higher. That that's kind of like
when when a pool is cold, And that's kind of
how I how to have played last year, where you
would see so many times the first half he's thrown
for sixty five yards and then by the end of
the game he's up to forty seventy a couple of
touchdowns or or some very similar stat to that. I

(26:30):
don't know if it's he's afraid of throwing an interception,
if he's afraid of turning the football over, but he
just doesn't take the chances deeper down the field early
in games that he could have. It's almost like he
can't fake it till he makes it. Like he's got
to really get into the game before I really start
testing the field and going downfield, and he's got to
be able to trust himself. He did trust himself that,
you know what, I can throw this downfield and try

(26:52):
to make a play here and and on third and five,
I can throw this one thirty yards downfield because the
front of the line of scrimmages is kind of closed
often because they know he's not he's not a deep
threat that he doesn't have the arm to do it.
He could still throw it deep, he just doesn't do it.
So once he does that and he kind of trusts
himself and and lets it fly, he's gonna be fine.
And I really believe he's gonna take that step this

(27:12):
year because watching him play, that was the big common
theme for him throughout his entire season. He'd started out
really slow in a game, then he'd kind of pick
it up and that's when he would have a really
good game. But there's some games where he couldn't fake
it till he made it and then the game was closed.
Instead of trying to wait for him to get it
in the third and fourth quarter, the Dolphins went to
Ryan Fitzpatrick. I can't blame him for that, because you
want to see your quarterback start off and try to

(27:34):
make a throw the middle of the first quarter. He's
gonna try to make the middle of the fourth quarter,
and to it wasn't that guy, but this year he'll
be that guy. Well, I think there's a bunch of
stuff that that's unpacked there. Yeah, I wasn't certainly kicking
him to the curb. I'm just saying your position, well
that if he doesn't develop as you expect, then you
can do whatever you need to write and you have
plenty of assets to go and make another deal. I

(27:57):
think there's a lot to what you said there. I
mean on do you trust yourself because you don't have
the space that you had at Alabama right where guys
were running past defenders and you could lob it up
and know that at worst it was falling in complete.
In the NFL, that's an interception, right if you're not
on target. So you're gonna second guess yourself a little bit.

(28:18):
To the Miami Dolphins were built more on a except
every once in a while you had Fitzpatrick going nuts.
For the most part, it was let's grind defensively, and
we're gonna grind games out, which means you're you're not
gonna wing the ball all over the place, especially as
a rookie right still coming off the hip injury and
everything else. Three, you didn't have a full regular off

(28:39):
season right one, he wasn't healthy, but to you, you
didn't even get in back into the building because of
COVID Right. When we look at what Joe Burrow and
Justin Herbert did, I don't think they get enough credit
for what they were able to do coming straight in
out of out of a nothing you know, training camp
and and your off season meetings are all zoom, and

(29:03):
you're doing two steps in front of a mirror instead
of with your offensive lineman. Right, in terms of trying
to get you know, the spatial designs, calling out audibles, whatever,
a lot of that was more in you know, dress rehearsal,
you know what you do. I took a couple of
chairs and I threw shirts on them. Obviously I'm being
crass about it, but the reality is you didn't have

(29:23):
a full off season to work. So anybody expecting these
guys to come in and light the world on fire
or kid themselves. Look, I'm afraid Joe Burrow is never
gonna get an offensive line worthy of him. Uh So,
I think he's gonna take a beating. Justin Herbert took
a lot of hits as well, but we saw him
succeed in great great spots with the with two a

(29:46):
tongue of voloa. I think it was they couldn't decide
are we building for the future or are we winning now?
And when they want a few games, it became a hey,
we got a shot, so they changed up. I think
the approach of they might have been when the season
began to where it ended up. I think there's great
future ahead with what they've done with this team this offseason.

(30:09):
But now it's it's all up to him and the
balls in his court because if he fails, look what's
behind him behind door number two draft pick, draft pick
and more draft pick. Yeah, he's just got this year.
I mean, I agree, he this is If he doesn't
show it this year, it's okay, we're moving on because
teams move on from starting quarterbacks that fast. And but
he but I I really I he's gonna have a

(30:30):
big year this year. I'm like, as a Jet fan,
I'm saying, oh my goodness, now the Bills are good,
that Dolphins are good. Town, We're gonna speak again. But
now that that's kind of how it is until he
when he trusts himself, which he will do, He's gonna
then turn into a terrific quarterback and the Dolphins are
gonna have no problems. And here comes that run of
of four years where They're a super Bowl caliber team
every single year. It's just gonna go that way. Twitter

You can save a whole lot of something something on

Laker fans are saying, I'm not panicking. I'm not panicking.
I'm not panicking. The Cavaliers lead at fifty one to

(31:13):
forty four, and the Lakers if they lose tonight, my goodness,
and the city is gonna hit a panic unlike anything
we've seen outside of a zombie apocalypse movie. So we'll
keep you updated on that. But coming up next a
big weekend in college basketball. Mike and I will give
you our big Sweet sixteen upsets. Coming up next. Am
I going to pick Syracuses an upset? Am I going to?

(31:34):
Am I going to Buddy Buckets? That's next Fox. Be
sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith Show
with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven pm

Fox Sports Radio The Jason Smith Show with my bas
friend Mike Harmen live from the Farmers Insurance Studios called

(31:55):
Farmers Today for a quote. We'll get back to the
NFL coming up in about ten minutes. But as we
are now on the eve of the Sweet sixteen again,
since COVID has played havoc with sports, Yes, no games
on Thursday, Friday. Sweet sixteen is gonna be Saturday, Sunday, Monday, Tuesday. Yes,
I'm in for it. It's awesome. Uh, looking at the

(32:17):
games tomorrow and Sunday. I know we have seen a
lot of upsets so far. You know you have you
have just tomorrow you have an eleven and twelve and
a fifteen seed all playing in separate games. Yeah, we
had twelve games in the first two rounds where they
call them upsets. In other words, five five seeds or
lower was how they defined it. So, I mean that's

(32:38):
pretty big gap. However, at this point it is hard
for me to pick an upset anywhere in the last
eight games. All right, Look, we watch Oregon State all
the time, Loyala Chicago the way they dismantled Illinois the
way they did, and plus you know, sister Jean, I
don't know. I mean, loyally they were so this wasn't hey,
we we held on at the end and hit a

(32:59):
buzzer beat or or you know, they missed a shot.
This was no. We are just kind of beating Illinois
in a very machine like way. I don't I don't know.
I don't know that I can pick Oregon State. I
can't take Villanova over Baylor. You know, Oral Roberts has
had a big run. But Arkansas is a terrific team,
and I'm looking at tomorrow. Because I'm a Syracuse guy,

(33:20):
of course I picked them to go to the Elite
Eight because I'm Syracuse. But boy, Houston is a great offensive,
rebounding team and they just haven't lost this season. It's
it's really hard. I don't know. Outside of me picking
Syracuse because I'm a Syracuse guy, I don't know that
I can pick an upset in any of the last
eight games. I don't know that I can do it. Yeah,
I mean, I guess technically by the definition, I'm not there.

(33:43):
But uh, you know, I had Florida State advancing. I
guess that qualifies just based on seeding. Yeah, absolutely, Yeah,
because I have them in my final four. But I
don't see that as an upset. Florida State Michigan. That's
kind of an even game, even games. No, But I'm
just going from seeding versus what you know. Historically, just
any lower seed would be called an upset, So now

(34:04):
they put more specificity on it because it you know,
makes it cooler, uh to see those numbers. But uh,
I could see U c l A winning. Just the
guard play has been fantastic. They just need to not
have one of those dull drums like they did the
first half against Michigan State. Right, that was just a
really bad half of basketball. They can't afford it here

(34:26):
because they won't be down eleven, they'll be down twenty two. Uh,
and it will be a much more arduous task. Yeah,
your Syracuse Orange, I think would be the only one
I'd be circling otherwise as a Alright, if things break
right and your guys is on fire again, if somehow
that carries over the weekend two, uh, then then perhaps
Jim Beeheim continues to smile. Yeah, I look, I'd love

(34:49):
to pick U c l A. But Alabama has played
so well. I mean they just I mean Look, it wasn't.
Alabama just won their first two games. I mean they
dismantled a pretty decent Maryland TA Maryland's okay, they beat
him by twenty. They work up a sweat. It's really
difficult to think those teams are gonna make it and Syracuse. Look,
does Syracuse have a shot? Absolutely? If I've been excited
all week, I get extra two days of being in

(35:10):
the Sweet sixteen because the games are until Saturday. Yes,
it's awesome. Buddy Beheim has become an icon in the
last few days. Everybody's He got an email the other
day from a company that wants to give him boxers
to wear, and he's like, I can't do this? Can
I mean? This is this is what for crying out long? Oh?
I know, it's been awesome. But outside of that, because
I'm a Syracuse guy, that's the only upset I I

(35:33):
can see. And even then, I understand I'm kind of
pushing it. I think the upsets, as far as we see,
the real big upsets are kind of over in the tournament. No,
and that, and that's well, that's the way it should be,
and that's good, right. Get that to quotucquote normously It
may not be exciting for the fringe college bucket fans,
but it makes more Twitter. And how about a fresca

(35:54):
might get swollen domb Buddy Buckets, Buddy Buddy Buckets coming
up next. After the big raids in the NFL today,
I'm pretty sure I know exactly how the top three
picks in the draft are gonna go, and one's gonna
surprise you. That's next on Fox
