As we get into week three in the NFL preseason,
this is when decisions are going to be made. We
we we we turn our back on the preseason. We
go ahead to the regular season. Some teams have answered
their questions, some teams have not. So right now we're
(00:45):
gonna give you some teams where this season can absolutely
go either way, where they can achieve, they can have
some great things happen, or boy, can they be terrible.
Right there there, there are three teams I'm looking at
that I can say, boy, there is no team amount
a wider swing of how are they going to do?
Than these three teams. And I'll kick it off by
telling you the number one team is the Cowboys. All right,
(01:07):
because look, the Cowboys aren't good, right. It look so
far Hard Knox has been somewhat entertaining. The drone shot
was very nice. But the Cowboys aren't very good, right,
They're not good. That Dak doesn't like mascots is almost
as good as Zeke not being able to wrap a present. Yeah, yeah, no,
that's things. But I mean those are the highlights. That's
very said. That's gonna come back to bite you around
(01:28):
Christmas time. You can't wrap that present. I mean we
should have just sent that picture that I sent you
and and Frostburg to uh Jerry Jones, going, can you
explain this all these rock gods with Lonnie Anderson. I'll
tell you about Lonnie Anderson back in five when I
visited the set of w k R P and in Cleveland,
sorry just Cincinnati. Cleveland was the that was going to
(01:49):
be the sequel. I like the Jan Smithers too, But uh, anyway, Lonnie,
what was I talking about? Lonnie Anderson? And I but look,
the Cowboys are not good, right, Dak Prescott has health
issues that you don't want to go into the season
with these. You don't want to go into the fact
that here he is coming off a serious injury. Also,
now he's got a lad injury, He's not going to
play at all. He's gonna hit the field Week one.
(02:11):
Nothing can go wrong. It's to go out there and play. Right,
You're gonna have to rely on Ezekiel Elliott. Is he
still the elite running back that he was earlier in
his career? Right, Dallas is a very thinly talented team. Right.
They used to have a great roster. Now it's very thin.
But the division is awful. Okay, the Eagles are gonna stink.
(02:32):
The Giants are gonna stink. I'd like to think Washington
is gonna be okay. But offensively, Fitzpatrick and Heineck, they're
gonna put enough points on the board. Their defense is
pretty good. They have some weapons. I like watching them,
but man, that possibility of them just being mat is there.
So you have the Cowboys that are not gonna be good.
But the division is so terrible that you know, nine
(02:54):
and eight, you know, might get you that division title
this year. You know, ten and seven might get you
that division title. The Cowboys are awful. It could be
ter They could go four and thirteen because it could
just roll off that bad, like the window for them
could be closed. But could they get enough close wins
together because the division is terrible. Yeah, Cowboys number one
(03:15):
team where they can achieve. I can see them winning
the division and I can see them finishing near the
bottom of the division. And it's it's one of those
seasons where you go, boy, the Cowboys have to have
complete overhaul of talent after this year. Yeah, I throw
up the Giants in the same division, and if it
goes badly, I'll be throwing up because it'll be ugly
for Danny Dimes. But you bring in a lot of talent.
(03:37):
We'll see if Gola Day can stay healthy and whatever.
Sae Kwan Berkley is right, finally back on the practice
field today, and this is one of those I have
no idea what any of those reports meant that we're
coming out of cant today in terms of his availability
and where he's at right, he's been evasive, coaching staff
has been evasive if he's available, and any semblance of
(03:59):
the guy he was a couple of years ago. All Right,
It's interesting their their line, you know, for doing line rankings,
ranks bottom ten, so a lot of questions to go
there but if it breaks right and suddenly Jones is
figuring anything out and they get some kind of balance
restored in the offense, like you said, the division may
(04:20):
be there for the taking. Again, going back to Ryan Fitzpatrick,
what is he he got through last year? Can he
go to in a row without being deposed full time?
You know, no experimentations with a to a tongue of
Iloa like character, but you know they've got a defense
that you would rank them, what top three right sitting
there with the Rams and and pick your poison whether
(04:43):
it's Pittsburgh or Baltimore whomever. So yeah, the Giants from
me are are one great enigma. And I probably have
way too much stock and shares for fantasy purposes in
later rounds. So there you go. There's a first couple
of teams could go either way. They could be to rific,
they could be terrible. The next team I'm gonna give
you on this list is it's really about their quarterback. Now,
(05:07):
I'm a big believer that this quarterback in year two
is gonna be much much better than he was in
year one because he's more confident, he's strowing the football better,
he's healthier, he's just a different guy. The Dolphins are
one of those teams that, boy, I can see them
scoring thirty five points a game and two of using
all these young weapons across the board, and suddenly his
(05:28):
progression from one is so great. Here come the Dolphins.
But I can also see two of coming out of
the season, and they figure them out after the first
three or four weeks, and it's a law season for
Miami and it's hey, guess what they figured two out.
We're keeping him in the pocket, we're hitting him, he's
not throwing the ball downfield, and Miami is just flatlining.
I mean this that they could really make a run
(05:49):
and be that surprise surprise team in the a f C.
They could challenge the Bills and hang with them for
a little bit in the a f C East, maybe
be a wild card team. But I can also see
him at the bottom of the division because they could
just get steamrolled every single week. If to doesn't progress
like he has been, we don't see I'm not gonna
see it till he gets on the field. But that's
another team. Hey, they could be a playoff caliber team.
(06:10):
They could also be the bottom of the division. I'm
gonna go to your Indianapolis Colts. Now, obviously the division
has the Houston Texans, which we're all just eagerly awaiting
to see how this seventeen game uh play plays out
as it were, what the second act, third act of
it all is and Jacksonville has many many questions. But
(06:32):
is the quarterback position right right? Will Quentin Nelson's foot
really be sound and ready for him to anchor that
line again? Because he's he's a you know, three fifteen,
a mean and the guy that if you don't watch
offensive line play, you want to watch the Colts, and
you have someone in the booth with the tellustrator show
(06:53):
you what offensive line play is, because that's how fun
it is when those five guys are working. But if
he's not right, all of a sudden, the potential for
a little bit of crumbling is there? Love Taylor, love Hines,
the return of the mac All of that is great.
Pittman uh is there as their top receiver. Now, uh,
the potential is there, and the defense is solid, but
(07:14):
it all hinges on feet right comfortable shoes. Was the
end of cheers. That could be the end of the
Indianapolis cold season. Although you know, with Andrew luck showing
up at high school uh squads and hanging out with
the scout team. Who knows? Maybe he's right for comeback?
Twitter at, how about a Fresco might get swollen down
(07:35):
the Jason Smithstow and Mike Harmon, Oh, who knows? Who knows?
And the last team I'm gonna give you is really
the quintessential. Hey, yes, they could be all or nothing
this year because they've gone into making it all or
nothing year. And that's the Cardinals, right. It looks like
they have everything to win, right. They have the weapons
with Kyler Murray. They went out and they signed the
(07:55):
veterans to come in to help the offense a little bit. J. J. Watt, Oh,
we did everything right, but the belief in Cliff Kingsbury
is tenuous. Once team's figured out, Hey, we're gonna keep
Kyler Murray in the pocket. The Cardinals started losing last year. Uh,
they could go either way this season. They I could
see them being a playoff team, wild card team, and
they put it together and win ten games because they're
(08:16):
exciting and they have a lot of talent, or they
just meander around and Kyler Murray gets figured out and
flip Cliff Kingsbury and his coaching staff can't figure out
a way to get the Cardinals off the track, and
again they win like six games. Again they could go
they could be a playoff day, be a wild card team,
or they can be at the bottom. And then there's
wholesale changes next year because everything they went all in
for didn't work out for him. I'm gonna circle back
(08:38):
to a team I know you hate well you you
really have already called out the quarterback and called through
his benching before the season even began. And that's Pittsburgh Steelers.
Retooled offensive line. Naji Harris comes in, Roethlisberger a year
removed from the surgery, and all of those receivers are
back in full effect, and we know the defense is
(08:59):
going to finish top ten. That's what they do. Uh,
it's set it and forget. It's the Ronco product. You know,
ups to ron Popio. But with Roethlisberger, I still contend
a good chunk of last year's dump and yak was
more about the offensive line than the health of his arm.
Not that he was pent by any stretch of the imagination,
(09:20):
but I think a lot of it was the one
one thousand two one thousand hot route get rid of
the ball. Uh So I think if he's right, then
this team goes and and goes on another run and
our our playoff contenders. But it could go south in
a big way if those five guys don't call us.
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith

Show with Mike harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the I Heart
Radio app. We've spent some time this week. You know,
we listen as as time has gone on. We spent
this summer going, boy, you know, where's all the big
headlines involved in Trevor Lawrence and Urban Meyer and the
Jaguars and pal They're all here. Uh. Today there was
(10:03):
a big story, uh, CBS Sports had this Pete Prisco
that some players don't like Urban Myers coaching style, that
it's too collegiate. For example, players don't like this according
reports on the field that he has another assistant and
he's got a boom mike that he shouts into during
(10:23):
practice telling players to hydrate and to move to the
next station, move faster, and a lot of players don't
like this. I can't say I blame them, can you
have these guys have playing the NFL now that they're
getting paid all kinds of money, and they're going from
they know they got a player, they're gonna get cut.
They you can't just mail it in and try to
(10:45):
hide in the National Football League. These guys are playing
for their lives. And then you have a coach going,
let's go hy next station, next station, next station. Know
you just the wrong water bottle that clearly says Laurence
on it. The electrolytes are for him and him all day.
I want to grab coaches Mike and just throw it
(11:06):
in the ocean. Man, I can't hear that one more time. Hydrate, hydrate,
Let's go hydrate, next station, next stay come on? Of
course you really NFL late Now, I don't I don't
drink water. You don't drink water? Yeah, I don't drink
I mean back in the day, the complaint was that
they didn't let him drinking water. So now urbans just saying, hey,
make sure you're hydrating human down here. I mean, hey, guys,
(11:31):
it's hot, Like, do you really need that? I mean,
do you really need to be told it's hot? Hey guys,
it's hot. I know I'm here with you. I'm hot,
I'm right next to you. I am hot. I understand this.
I I knew that I told you this was gonna
blow ups. Man. I look, I knew there would be
a learning friend. And look, and I can't sit here
and say, okay, Urban Meyers terrible. I mean, look, either
he's gonna turn out to be Pete Carroll or he's
(11:53):
gonna turn out to be Greg Siano, who was like
I'm gonna you know, rush the snap on the knockdown
on on the neil downs, or he's Marty morning Wegg.
Where I'm gonna leave practice on a motorcycle because I'm
gonna do things my way. And this is how I
be we dr fel Okay, I'm gonna get in the motorcycle.
(12:16):
I need you to stand up with the microphone and
go be rendered dudd dundunden and then you come up
with a be we we we we we do. I
start singing, now yeah, now Vince, now, Vince, go go
go go go. Okay, you know, I knew there was
(12:38):
gonna be some kind of of adjustment. I didn't think
it would be this. This doesn't mean suddenly he's going
to be terrible. But boy, I thought you'd be past
stuff like this, like you'd be passed up like hydrate hydrate,
Come on, hydrate, hydrate. Hy I get when you're when
you're coaching kids, right, And this is where it should
be a more it should be. This should have been
(12:59):
an easier adjustment for urban Meyer, right to go from Okay,
here's kids. You gotta remind stuff because they're you know,
they're eighteen nineteen years old, have been taken care of
their whole life, and they're on scholarship and they want
to text their friends and all these things are going on,
and you gotta make sure because they don't know what's right.
I get that, But these are all guys in the
National Football League. Man, these are guys that know what
(13:20):
they need to do. They want to keep getting paid,
and they know what they gotta do. There's nobody who
mails it in the NFL. If you mail it in,
you're getting cut. It's easy to see. And so you
gotta you gotta treat them like men right every time. Look,
this is not to compare myself to urban Meyer, but
any coaches you go up the ladder, there's different ways.
You know, you have to treat players you're coaching, right,
(13:42):
so you know I taught how I've been coaching soccer
and softball since it's always been seven years old. Right,
Obviously there's different ways you coach girls when they're seven
and eight nine, then you do in their ten, eleven
and twelve right like like it would you know when
when it's nine years when they're nine years old, it's like, okay,
let's take five minutes and everybody can do aren't wheels? Yeah? Alright?
So do you get them all? You know, if they're
(14:02):
getting out of there, hey, five minutes for cart wheels.
They do cart wheels. And then when you get to
be like twelve and thirteen and and I say, okay, hey, coach,
can I use uh a Megan Stallion songs as walk
up music? Which one you know that? No, you can't
use that, can't use it? Sorry, you can't use that
as your walk up I'm sorry. You just get why well,
because it's got some lyrics in it that no, people
don't like and you know it's it's good. You know,
(14:24):
some people don't might not want to hear. Let's just
deal with something else you have to understand. That is
as as players get older, there's different things you can
do to forget the walk up music. Go up there
and you have a good at bat, a nonsense, trivial
part of things. And if you strike out, take some
of this spider tech, rub it on the ball and
grab it and show it to the up and go, hey,
(14:45):
this is what's on the ball. You gotta throw this
person out of the game. Uh So, Yeah, there's different
things you have to understand when you're moving on and coaching.
And here was Urban Meyer who was always, you know,
the the king of every uh of every single organization
he coached it. In college football, he was always the
end all be all. He never had to worry about
(15:06):
players who are more powerful than he was, never had
to worry about anybody in the in the athletic department
who was more powerful than him. He got to make
all the rules, he got to do whatever he wanted to,
didn't have to worry about losing a lot of football games.
He always went in with the players who were more talented.
And now you're in the NFL, and okay, guess what.
There's some people who are more powerful than you. If
(15:27):
Trevor Lawrence doesn't like you, guess what. Guess who's getting fired,
not Trevor Lawrence. Okay, if you weren't getting along with
Justin Fields, justin fields to leave and transfer. Hey, I
won championships here. It's not like that in the NFL.
And there's there's there's lessons that you would think would
be easier for coaches to learn to say, Okay, now
i'm here. I can't keep blowing a whistle and having
(15:49):
having a microphone and yellow players idrate and moved to
the next station. That's not how it works, is why
you want to be innovative. And from all reports he
went to Shatkan and said, here's all the stuff I've had,
here's all the stuff we need so cry out therapy
and all sorts of new machines and stuff for recovery,
(16:09):
and more trainers and more coaches and more attention to
detail in that regard, which should be all all good things.
The problem is you don't. You don't have to, you know,
always try to outthink the room. There's a reason that
teams have success and longevity. Find best practices. The things
that worked for you in college may not translate. Some
(16:30):
of them will, some of them won't. But you need
to recognize, uh, you don't. You have all recruiting run
of four years to make things right. Right, the winning
time is now. Uh, they went rock bottom. You've got
the number one pick, You've got a team that, at
least on paper, could, if things broke right, be competitive.
And right now you've just been a disaster. So stop
(16:52):
with all the gadgetry, stop with all the innovations, and
just get back to brass tacks of installing you know,
an NFL offense. Yeah, and some of it is. And
I get that. Hey, I know the spotlights on me
and I want to show you I'm the smartest person
in the room. Okay, but resist that temptation. Don't run
(17:13):
to it when you feel like I want to show
you us. Look, I know that none of you ever
thought of this idea before, but this is my idea.
This is work. So we're gonna do this now. Dude,
what would you kid me? Really? I mean that that
that that idea, the hydrate thing. Really that that's you.
You have to understand that the best way to the
best way to achieve sometimes isn't to reinvent the wheel.
(17:34):
You know, you're coming into something brand new, and when
you're coming with all these new idea. All these ideas
that I did. I don't know why these ideas didn't work.
I did them all in college. This is completely different, man,
completely different. I picked the Jaguars and go to the
playoffs this year, and I am not feeling good about that, Buddy,
I really am not. Yeah, but you can get good
odds right now, I know. Be sure to catch live
(17:58):
editions of The Jason's Mid Show with Mike Harman weekdays
at ten pm Eastern, seven pm Pacific. Hey, it's me
Rob Parker. Check out my weekly MLB podcast, Inside the
Parker for twenty two minutes of pipe and hot baseball
talk featuring the biggest name to newsmakers in the sport.
Whether you believe in analytics or the eye test, We've
(18:21):
got all the bases covered. New episodes drop every Thursday,
So do yourself a favor and listen to Inside the
Parker with Rob Parker on the I Heart Radio app
or wherever you get your podcast. This clearly is and
this is the coolest story of the week. I mean,
there there, it's not even close. Chargers running back Austin
(18:42):
Ekeler that this is not because you and I have
Austin Ekeler in our dynasty. Oh yeah, yeah, I know.
I Look. All you have to do is say the name,
and he brings smiles to the basis of Charger fans
and fantasy owners. Austin Ekeler is going to offer free
autograph jerseys to fantasy teams who start him and win
this season. Now, what you need to do is you
(19:06):
post that you're starting him, your team wins, you put
it on social media, and he's going to pick the winners. Now,
this isn't everybody that you know it starts him in wins,
you know, but you know you and I certainly could
do that. But if you win, you start him and
you post a picture of your fantasy matchup, He's gonna
pick winners and give free autograph jerseys to teams who
(19:27):
do that and start him in fantasy. Now, I want
to say this just because in another league I drafted
Larry Rountreat doesn't mean I don't believe in Lawson Claire.
Doesn't mean I just I'm just protecting myself a little bit,
because you know, staying healthy's kind of a thing. But
this is Mike, This is the coolest story of the week. Yeah,
depending on how much you love me, you have a
PPR league. I mean, he's going seventh eighth overall among
(19:51):
running backs, which is pretty pretty sweet. He's also doing
fantasy content this year too, so not only is he
giving away jerseys for fantasy victories where you deploy him,
he's also gonna go and put on his prognostication hat,
which means he can get the same hate mail I do.
Might be the only time I'm ever compared to Austin Ekeler.
(20:12):
But let's go. Yeah, you went harmon. You both blew
it from me. Man, you told me you'd just done,
and I blew it. Hey, what do you want for me?
But you know, but this is, like I said, this
is really cool, and you know, I I wish that
more players would embrace this and offer more swag, you know,
but I like to go the way of, hey, if
(20:32):
you lost because I stunk or got hurt, Like here's
a twenty five dollar gift card to Target. Now. That
seems that seems like those deals should be all over
the place right with local food joints fanatics. That's throwing
money all over the place in the trading card memorabilia
world right now, and their new deals that come up
in the next couple of years. Yeah, there's plenty of
(20:53):
opportunity here for engagement and given n I L and
at the collegiate level, and well some high school kids,
uh getting getting in on the act as well. That
you know, it looks like NFL players they can get
creative because the whole fantasy and gambling box has been opened. Yeah.
I mean make it something like, hey, if you lost
(21:14):
this week and I stunk, post your lineup and then
like you picked the line up where the team lost
and everybody else on the team was good except for you,
and then that person get like I said, gift card
or best buy the best buyers are well, but but
think about it. But I mean, it's a good place
to go and look around and see what you like
and then go order it elsewhere. Sorry, yeah, I gotta
(21:36):
call it what it is. Uh, but anything from here, No, No,
I'm just here looking pictures in this aisle. Uh. Let go.
You have to buy something you please buy? All right?
All right, I need a USB charger. Uh. Look, I
think there's plenty of opportunity here. And just think of
(21:56):
all the smack talk that then would happen between players
you screwed this guy over. Yeah, I helped him win.
But you know, if you had just pulled your weight,
you were expected to score twelve points. This week, you
score nine, so we lost. I at least met my averages.
But I would dig that. I think I want more
people to be involved that way. Listen, if you stink
(22:19):
and I get chopped in my guillotine league, if you
can make a phone call to my commissioner and get
me reinstated, how about that? Right? Like, Hey, awesome, Nikeler.
You know, you know, at the commissioner of your league
on Twitter or something or calls him, Hey, I was
bad this week and you reinstate Jason Smith's team. Hey, yeah,
you get that. Yeah, I'll put you back and we'll
have a double elimination this week and then I'm back
in certain like that. That would be well too, man,
(22:41):
because the other angle that you play here is that
you know Ekeler was undrafted, so now it's all about
draft me early and reaped the rewards. I dig that
about you dig that? That's a great idea. Be sure
to catch live editions of The Jason Smith Show with
Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven p and
Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the I Heart Radio
(23:03):
app Fox Sports Radio The Jason Smith Show with my
bas friend Mike Harmon here joining us now on the hotline.
It is a late night visit from the one and
only NFL on Fox insider extraordinaire Jay Glazer. You can
follow me on Twitter at Jay Glazer. Jay coming off
a big m v P merging vets and players event
(23:25):
in Seattle tonight, Jay, how did they go? Oh? Incredible,
the Seahawks. It's so great. They actually allowed us to
have a session after shield. Uh and John Schneider and
GM showed up to his wife Tracy. Luke Wilson, who
just retired yesterday, came down with part of it right
and lonso High Smiths played for a long time in
(23:46):
the NFL, is part of the organization. He was there.
A lot of people, the Seahawks really showed up, um
to support and be part of it. But you know,
our vets, it was a day they needed to. I
mean that's um. There were a lot of Marines in
there and and a lot of you know, servicemen and
women are were struggling today with folks happening in Afghanistan
and it's incredible. Like, listen, all these people early when
(24:08):
you played football or whether you you fall to our
country more, you can lean on each other and for
them to be able to sit there and say, hey,
I don't know how I'm feeling, like I'm struggling with
this and I'm sad or you know, my service. So
there's just a lot of things that a lot of
emotions as you can imagine. Um. And I mean, we
have some of our MP team members who are trying
to get the translators out of Afghanistan as we speak.
(24:30):
And actually one of our our guys, one of our guys,
and now tonight that he got not only his translator
out for this guy was a translator for our special
forces for special operations. They got his old family out.
And man, it's just the vulnerability that you know, I
always tell you guys, muscles aren't real strength. Man vulnerabilities
(24:51):
true strengths. And for us to be able to open
up as football players to vets vets the football players
and and the cool part is because a lot of
our players like, man, why are we here? Why are
we do and the events will tell them you saved us.
We're in war, we're in gun fights. All we're thinking
about a lot of them are gonna get back to
(25:11):
watch this game. Well, I want to get back and
watch this fighter. I want to get back. And they
think about it and they say, you saved us. Now
it's time for us to turn around and save you.
So all you guys are you know, retiring from sports.
We're here for you now. Wow that they really all say, look,
I think about getting back and all the different things
in life, and they talk about the games they're missing.
That's amazing. While they're in gunfights, they're like, man, I
(25:34):
gotta get back in what Seahawks and forty niners And
they really think about it, and they and they pulled
us to and they tell all our players and look
a lot of our fighters you come on. They're like,
we couldn't wait to get back and back then too,
like early days also um and in both both Gulf Wars,
back then they would have like GCR and DVD tails
(25:57):
of the fights. So a lot of our are members
of m VP. They're like COIs Crazy and box Root
and Mark Kerr and Chuck Withdele and Randy Contort. People
fought in those early days where they were VCRs and
DVDs and they couldn't wait in the middle of a
gun ball to get back and watch this fight. So
they really do lift each other up. It's incredible symbiotic
(26:20):
relationship trying to find some sense of normalcy amid the chaos. Uh,
and you're helping to do that. Ja, Well, that's just everybody.
I'm talking about this group. They're good in chaos, man,
they may not be good in you know, working a
quote unquote normal job. It's okay, Like I want I
want them to understand. It's okay, Like you don't have
to be quote unquote normal or be a face in
(26:41):
the crowd. Let's be our own damn crowd. Let's start
our own crowd for people who are different, who are
a great in in chaos. And you know that's your
when you have a team that could that could constantly
lift you up and either let you know it's okay
not to be okay or when you're struggling or you
have things to celebrate. But they're different, you think differently,
and you know this power and numbers fan So it's
(27:03):
our locker room is strong. Just do impressive stuff. We
always love the the insights and the energy that you
bring with that at Jay Glazer on Twitter is where
you find an NFL on Fox. He's ready to get
back with his teammates there. How how would the fact
that we have literally in the middle of it's been
going on all week. Are members like saying, hey, we're
trying to get our translators out right now or some
(27:25):
special Forces buddies we have right now, get them out
and actually succeeding in getting them out. Yeah, that's like,
it's like Argo, It's like it's like seeing the movie
You're trying to get trying to get everybody. Yeah, this
is and obviously that was real life along time. This
is real life. Now it's real life. It's real life,
and it's really sad, and it's you know, we could
be divided. The country we're not divided about is our
(27:45):
military and how much we love them and for the
sacrifices if they've made for Ristmas and not being cliche.
Big event tonight for Jay Glazer again, he is the
fatter of m v P merging vets and players. You
can check out everything about tonight and the event on
Twitter at Jake Lazer. That is at Jake Glazer for
more information on that and you know, Jay here, I
(28:07):
was ready to come on and sit there and and
and say, hey, you know when people are asking you
about glaze across America and they say what team were
you're most impressed with? And you said the Saints training
facility with your friends. Well, because here is the honest truth,
I go and it's happened whole time. I go to
training camp, and teams and jams will say straight up,
so you watch practice tonight, what do you think? And
(28:28):
I'll usually mess with him and go be like, honestly,
I think you guys are gonna suck. Like what I'm like,
I don't know what I'm looking at. I have no
idea where you guys are working on. At least I know,
I don't know's I'm there for a day. Um yeah,
and sometimes you can see energy, but they're also going
to get themselves. So until when I start going against
other jerseys, you don't really know. Because look, if you're
a bad team, you're only comparing yourself to other bad players, right,
(28:50):
So there's it's hard to tell from one day at
camp you know what kind of culture you have. The
one thing I'll say it's different is that I can
turn back to books. They didn't have to last year.
Tom Brady and those guys they would just play football
because COVID kept everybody out, And now all of a
sudden they have to deal with being tom Brady again.
Think it's huge megastar with community relations, marketing, so all
(29:14):
the stuff that goes along with that, which he really
didn't have to deal with last year. So it's just
gonna be interesting how they handle all that together this year,
where you know it's not the business side kind of
comes back in um after COVID. So one of the
even you mentioned the training facility we're talking about the Saints,
Jamis Winston showed out on Monday night and and all
(29:36):
the reports and certainly you're you're on top of it
there with your your relationship with Sean Payton and and
just being the man that offseason two. Well, and it
looks like he's, uh, he's gonna be one of your prime,
prime guys to promote as he looks like he's gonna
win this job. Well, the biggest thing with Jamis is
(29:57):
that you know, said that some the other day, don't
worry about and trying to be perfect. Let's just go
for it, go throw it a go and you know,
I think you know, I thinks and camps um. He
was like trying to make sure he's a little bit
too perfect, to make sure he didn't lose the job
(30:19):
instead of one the job. So I think he was
was a big night for James. He's gotta build on it. Well,
as long as you tell me you didn't train him
to do the tackling dummy drill, because that's the only
thing he's really struggled that so far. No, no, no,
we had nothing to do with that. No, no, no, no,
zero to do with that. We told him you got
to go through that and it gets hit by. It
(30:40):
has not a lot we can tell you know. So
so we've been watching Hard Knocks and and we know that.
But yeah, the way, you gotta talk about Saks traffic facility.
So and I do realize do the other day when
I'm there, I'm like, guys, realized how much how great
your facility is compared to everybody else And they're like, no,
come us, And I was like, that's right. I never
talked about it, like you guys don't go to other
(31:00):
teams facilities, but like you wouldn't know every year, so
they've always try and build culture there. So Sean Payton
got there, and every year they do something upgrade. So
like a couple of years ago, if you go in
the meeting rooms, they're like an I picked movie there.
Like the seats there. I told me the other day,
I don't know how these players stay awaken your meetings.
You make it so comfortable for them fallow sleep for
(31:22):
two seconds. But the locker room is so impressive. The
team hotel now is a five star hotel that just
got make beautiful, beautiful, five star ultra luxury hotel, which
is not really normal team hotels. Okay, they don't stay
(31:42):
at something that nice. That's gonna be the hotel next year,
I think for training camp, give me the hotel this
year for their home games. Um, their way room. It's
just man, they just go every year. They're they're trying
to build on that culture there, and yeah, it really is.
It's it's an impressive place. M Jake Lazer I guest
here the Jason Smith shows Mike Carmen. All right, so
(32:04):
now being in Seattle, you're getting to be there. Everything
cool with Russell Wilson and the Seahawks. Are they gonna
be business as usual getting set to hit the ground here. Yeah,
it'll be business usual, without doubt. It's just Russell's always
had this relationship with them, you know, and it's um
you know, and they looked they've rebuilt over the years,
(32:25):
over and over and over, but they keep winning, you know.
And and I think part of it some of the
personal libering over there Russell obviously, um it was a
great player also, But yeah, the same thing with Russell Wilson.
I mean it's but it's during the seat during the
off season, like it started early about him want now
right and okay and then and I don't know, I
(32:46):
just think there's a lot of attention getting there and
at the end of it just say okay, I'm just
gonna stay here and not take a train anywhere. I'm
just like, okay, why why this has happened? Why bothered
with all this? Buck of us a lot to talk
about JA and and and postulate, so I want to
I'll probably send him some candy or something along the way. Yeah.
(33:09):
From that, Also, we've been watching Hard Knocks. Uh the
Cowboys look, they look like they got a dude and
Micah Parsons, can damn Quinn fix that defense? Yeah. You know,
look again, last year was was interesting because during COVID
you don't really get to put your hands on anybody,
and um, you got to try and build a culture
and it was hard. But Damn Quinn man, he is
a type of guy like you want to talk energy,
(33:31):
Oh my god, So yeah, it was. It was one
of the biggest things when I went there. They were
just so excited to have a guy like Dan Quinn
and that energy in there. And you know what, he
dan gets a lot, you know, the best of ends players.
When he was coaching that legion to boom right, man,
he got an awful out out of those guys and
he got a lot of that defense. People don't know,
but he took over the defense his super Bowl You're
in Atlanta got halfway through the season. So yeah, there
(33:54):
there's a lot of optimism there at dan Quin taking
over the defense. All right, Jane, Now I gotta ask you,
you're glad Across America tour is completed. What's the best
story you can tell us from from any one of
your thirty two stops? What I said, what's the one
story that defines you getting back into doing this and
getting back across country? What's the best story you can
(34:14):
tell us? The best stories I can't tell you. I
was gonna say, I gotta say there's probably a few
that we'll have to have a conversation over a cocktail
off air or sometimes well, I guess, well, the best
story I can tell you it's freaking Lynch when I
still wind all over his name, Jacket and he and
the out of me and told the world. But you
know that I did that, So that was that was
(34:35):
a good one. That was fun. That was well, well
great for me, but you know, well and you learnt
of history. Bunny. He had he had his party and
I walked in and everybody his family, and they all
look at me like shame on, damn. Same so and
I also like at first I was like, man, I
(34:56):
love red wine. I'm like, I can't have a single
red wine up to look at me about this horrible
human bank. Yeah, but no, there's no video. I told me.
The best part was though it was so we were
so into it. Ron day, Barber he's been the next
(35:16):
day was like, hey, which one of us still wanted us?
Jacket and Mike, I don't know, let's read the story.
And then sure enough, there's my name, and he called
me what his His idiot buddy later came up and
hit me from behind and still white all over my jacket.
Now I'll say this too again, John Lynch. Last week
we had a special m DP after the initial UM,
you know, news of us pulling out about Shanistan. What's happened.
(35:39):
We have an m v P member UH named A
J who was actually from Afghanistan. Left Afghanistan in the nineties,
like fled to get away from the Taliban back then
came to America, went to high school in the Bay Area.
UM joined the Marines Special Special Forces, Special Operations I believe,
(36:00):
and then UM after nine eleven, he was the first
one back in to Afghanistan when we were back, went
back in hate from there. I mean, it's what a story.
And John Lynch actually came on to that special mg
P meeting we had was at last Tuesday or to
tuesdays or whatever was UM to help these chats, you know,
(36:21):
through that the news of the day and when he
was telling the story, A J. Fortys had on and
John Lynch is like, hey, a J. You're you're a superhero,
Like your story is absolutely incredible and we're coming down
there to practice with Chargers this week. I would love
you to be my guest. And this guy went from
having the worst day of his life too, Wow, man,
my my forty who I love. It's like I can't
(36:43):
believe that gets go stand stand down there with John
Lynch and again, you just never know the power to
help that we all have. We're all poward helping and
you don't know how far I could really go. And
it went from this guy unraveling to us, which that's
who we should unravel to. But he had a lot
of his um. He's kind of telling us what's really
(37:04):
happening over there, and a lot of his family are
now really in the harm's way and unfortunately being victimized
in a bad way from over there, and his teammates
and special Forces over there, um and some of the
Afghani Special Ops teammates had they are being rounded up
and executed and it's just and he was just open
up to us and just kind of and then for
(37:26):
Lynch to say, hey, I can man a j if
you needed, I'll take you with me to practice, and
he went from Wow, this is the worst day of
my life too, Jay, John, thank you like I needed that.
You have no idea how much this helped me. So
that was pretty cool, awesome stuff from Jake Glazer. Again,
you can fall on Twitter at Jay Glazer more info
on m v P merging vets and players. Is there
(37:48):
a great night in Seattle tonight? And Jack, let me
tell you just really quick about the difference that you're
making that maybe you don't know. If you go to
Google and you start typing in John Lynch's name, right,
all these things that could come out, John Lynch, every anything,
it could be Trey Lance, Jimmy Garoppolo. If you start
typing in John Lynch's name, it fills, it auto fills
out to John Lynch jacket. So just so you know,
(38:10):
that's the thing. If you start typing his name and
John Lynch jacket is what it auto fills to, and
then you can get that story right there, Jack Off,
I'm the one who's spoken on the jacket ridding him
out in a relating story. Jay Glazer has been banned
from forty Niners team facility. Keep up the good work, man,
(38:35):
as always, thanks so much. We will talk to you this
this week. Man days in the road. I'm fine, go
back and see your dog man. Oh yeah, talk you
got a buddy. Oh my god, phenomenal stuff from Jay Glaze. Yeah,
you start typing in John Jackets, what comes. Oh, that's
a that's a great story. Well but you know what,
(38:56):
he's part of all the big moments, and you know,
blessed obviously our long relationship with him here on the show.
Uh story tie with Jay Glazer, and yes, the ones
he tells us off air, uh might might make you
blush sometimes, but we certainly uh laugh until there's tears
in the corner of our eyes at times. Uh. Because
(39:17):
he didn't even get into a Bruce Arians story, you know. No, no, no,
because those those can't remember when he was in the
room with Jay when he was on with us one time,
and it's like we can't really make out what he's saying.
And that's probably a good thing. But no, just when
you were out last week, you know, you're on vacation
and it was the Guns and Roses night you went
to the Guns rose Ja came on and uh he
(39:39):
was he was just leaving Tampa and I said, okay,
j uh tell us, I know you're probably out with
Bruce Arians right now. What you know what what what's
going on? He goes out right now, it's like eleven
o'clock at night. I go an he goes, you kidding.
We were date drinking at three o'clock this afternoon. As
soon as practice was something there, you see, just cut
to the chase. But now, I mean obviously doing such
(40:01):
great work, uh, and what they do, uh, Vets and
Players dot org is the website all the work with
g n C and the money raised there and it's
it's it's amazing stuff. And just proud of that relationship
that we've built all these years. Uh, and proud to
you know, call him a friend and to watch what
he does. Just great stuff. Be sure to catch live
(40:24):
editions of The Jason Smith Show with Mike Harmon weekdays
at ten pm Eastern, seven pm Pacific.
