You're listening to Fox Sports Radio. Hello and welcome inside
our three of The Jason Smith Show with Mike Harmon.
Special delivery Steve to Sager in tonight from Mike Harmon.
As the seventy Sixers maybe energized by the fact that
who we could be trading Ben Simmons and maybe getting
(00:44):
James Hearten our long national nightmare maybe over trade deadline
Thursday afternoon in the NBA tick tick tick tick tick
tick tick tick, the Sixers lead the Mavericks right now
sixty to fifty one, about thirty seconds to know before halftime.
Joel Embiid playing at an m v P tide level
(01:04):
eighteen points, nine rebounds for the Sixers, and you know
we've talked about the he hasn't even played yet sixteen
minutes for eighteen well, he's at the free throw line
every time he touches the ball. You know that that's
also doing the Karl Malone, the big man, he was
getting into line and hitting. Therefore, what twenty five points
a game? That's how Malone did it. Why does he
(01:26):
only have eight field goal attempts because he's twenty five
for thirty two from the free throw line. Guard This
is what he's saying. We attacked the James Harden story
from the Nets perspective the last couple of hours. That now,
according to Sham's Toranium NBA Insider, the Nets are open
to trading James Harden before the dead line. The Sixers
would be a huge team that would like to capitalize
(01:49):
on that. That could be where you wind up seeing
the Ben Simmons trade for James Harden, you know, and
really for some iteration, yeah, that's I mean, there might
there might be a little bit. But you know, Ben
Simmons makes a lot of money, which is good because
James Harden makes a lot of money, so easier you
might wind up having to see a third team get involved.
But you could see this happen and for the Sixers.
Am I the biggest fan of getting James Harden. Uh,
(02:13):
I'm not the biggest fan unless you're like the Sixers
and you would add him basically for free. Right, Ben
Simmons is not going to play for your team again,
and you're being really stubborn with saying, well, we're gonna
hold on to him for a star. We're gonna, We're
not gonna. Okay, Ben Simmons only has so much value.
Now you're talking about a potential deal where one team
(02:33):
wants to get out from over a contract they don't
want because James Harden is not quite the player he
used to be. Okay, that that can that can work
because the Sixers are getting James Harden for basically, you
take Ben Simmons out of the equation. He's not gonna
play for them. Listen, You're you're getting hardon who potentially
could be someone who you might not need him to
(02:55):
be the James Harden evolved because you're relying on Joel
Embiid and you do have some really good role players.
And for the fact the Sixers have been rolling the
way they have the past few weeks, it's been in
beating a bunch of guys, right, it's been in beating
a bunch of support, and this is a good roster
to start the season. People don't think about Tobias Harris.
That's nineteen points a game. This is a good team
(03:16):
and the Eastern Conferences we discussed earlier in the show,
has no clear favorite for the one seed. It may
as well be Philadelphia after tonight, they could be a
game out of first place. Yeah, they almost look a
little bit like the Bucks did last year. Whereas you know,
maybe Tobias Harris isn't quite Chris Middleton, but they kind
of remind you the Bucks. Hey, everything is going through
(03:37):
the one big star was having a great year dwell
and be just has to stay healthy. That's all he's
got to do this year. But they were able to
do it with a bunch of role players and able
to outlast the Sons because Chris Paul got tired in
the finals and the Bucks were able to steam roll
in peak at the right time. Tyrese Maxie, look at
some of the games he've been having for Philadelphia this
and these are seventeen points a game. These are guys
(03:57):
that contribute. This is a good team without any trade
that we're talking about. So when the Athletics says the
Sixers are expected to pursue Harden. Wow, Okay, the Eastern
Conference better be on notice if that goes through. Yeah,
when it when it comes to when it comes to
what you would want from him, because look, Hard Harden
is a guy that's gonna get tired at the end
of the at the end of the games in the playoffs, right,
That's what he's done his entire career. He plays a
(04:19):
lot that he gets tired with about seven eight minutes
left to go. He can't make shots. He canny game
winning shots that rockets a game they lost with all
the three point mrs All and then the and then
the Celtics on ensit hold my beer. But you wouldn't
need that from Harden this time. You wouldn't need that,
you would You would just need Hard Okay, be close
(04:40):
to the guy you were, Be someone that can fill
it up and you won't have to worry about playing
a ton of minutes. Maybe it'll be fresher at the
end because we have a pretty deep team. Because it's
not like you got to give up a big three
for one, like if the if the Nicks were trying
to get James Harden have to get up three players
for him and then suddenly your rotation is all out
of whack and you're going to get a star. Uh.
This would be a great move for the Sixers because
(05:01):
this is a go for it year, all right, this
is this is not a year to sit back and
go Ah, the East is kind of loaded out of No,
this is a go for it year. Yeah, why not you?
Because it's not like the East is great? Right, it
could be you could be somebody else, but it could be.
It's not like the Western Conference where teams have to
have to understand, all right, this is where in the
(05:22):
pecking order. Boy, the Sons are great. Boy, the Warriors
are great. Boy, Memphis is getting better every day. Everybody
else's yeah, might not be our years. You're gonna see
them kind of hold back a little bit trade at
the trade deadline. But the East is open. It's it's
a why not us type year, and not just for
the Sixers, for anybody. But the Sixers clearly have the
player that a lot of teams covet, and it depends
(05:43):
on the deal you can get. But now that you're daying,
the Nets are dangling a player that they might want.
Now it's nothing can happen, and if you're the Sixers,
you have to do something because is this team good
enough to get all the way to the finals the
way it is right now? Maybe it shockingly average at
home Philadelphia talking about the standings, they could be the
one seed. This team can be better. We haven't mentioned
(06:04):
Seth Curry for example. There's there's a three point possibility.
They have talent. They could be better. They can And
if they get James Harden again basically for free, because
you're not taking anything away from the current team, that's
a big deal. That's a trade that puts you over
the top because you know Harden is gonna be a
great regular season player. You know he's gonna get you
to the top of the Eastern Conference. And if he
(06:27):
fits in and you're not worried about having to rely
on him at the end of games, and he's not
a guy that's gonna have the ball and he'll play
off the ball a little bit more, Yeah, go ahead
and do it. It's like the Sixers almost have to.
They would they would be just just crushing themselves if
they don't make the move with Ben Simmons to go
get another player, because you are gonna waste this year
with Joel Embiid, just gonna waste it for him because
(06:49):
you remember Joe l Embiid on the court, how incredible
he was this past year. I mentioned how they lost
a game seven and suddenly they're out last year's playoffs,
it was because of Mbiad. I mean, he was up
to like thirty points a game in that series. And
bead was sensational and has continued to be good. So
we'll have more NBA on the way. We got Dan
(07:11):
Wicky stopping by in a few minutes. Lakers Clippers inside
of Clippers made a big trade today and the Lakers
gonna make a big deal. But there's an update on
a story we've talked about a couple of times this week,
and a suspect was arrested in connection with the Sofi
Stadium attack that left the forty Niners fan into medically
induced coma. Bryan Sawente's thirty three year old arrested late
(07:34):
Thursday night on suspicion of assault by means to produce
great bodily injury, which is a felony. Mayor of Inglewood
James Butts talked about this during the press conference today
and some of the things he said I just couldn't believe.
But let's hear Mayor Butts talk about what happened and
how the the altercation shook down. I P detectives have
(07:56):
now located video which depicts Mr Luna meg Link with
a group of other fans in the parking lot. The
overwhelming majority of these fans were wearing red forty Niner jerseys.
There appears to have been an altercation and pushing between
Mr Luna and who we now name as a suspect.
It appears that the injured person, Luna, pushed the suspect
(08:19):
from behind. It appears that the suspect then retaliated by
pushing Mr Luna from behind and then struck Mr Luna
once in the mouth area. Mr Luna fell to the ground,
where he was later found by security personnel who summoned paramedics.
We believe we've identified a vehicle associated with the suspect.
(08:40):
He was seen interacting with the occupant of that vehicle.
The suspect was wearing a Rams jersey. From the video,
all that can be ascertained is that the victim was
wearing a white jersey. So there's Mayor Butts and he
also went on to say, oh, if you think this
is something like the Brian Snow tragedy the Giants fan
(09:00):
who was beating a decade ago at Dodger Stadium outside you,
that's the same thing outside the stadium. Let's hear from
mayorbots On that I'd see this. It's obviously a different
type of situation the situation and Dodger Stadium is in
nowhere comparable to this. And to be blunt about it,
it looked like a small altercation that went very bad
(09:24):
from one punch and someone falling hitting their head on
the ground. It wasn't like you had people ganging up
on somebody and beating them as you did in Dodger Stadium.
This is a mayor who actually said that those words
actually came out of his mouth. Hey, look to be blunt.
It was a small altercation that went very bad. He's
also to make the difference inaccurate saying that was in
(09:45):
Dodger Stadium. As I recall, it was on the outer
parking lot afterwards, and the fact that it was outer,
a darker parking lot, that's probably part of the reason
why it was able to continue. This is a situation
in which there was yet another fight. That's so fight
which has been riddled with fights between Niners fans and
Rams fans and Rams fans and other team fans all
(10:07):
year long. We've seen everywhere everywhere. And this guy's in
the hospital and he's in a medically induced coma and
he's well to be blunt about it. It It was a
small artercation that went bad. Guys in the hospital. Man
guy has really really hurt because there was a fight
that broke out because there wasn't enough security and this happened.
And it sounds like he's blowing it off. It was
(10:28):
like he had a bunch of guys getting it up
on a guy was a fighting out of control. Yeah,
it was a fight that got out of control. Can
you have a little bit of compassion? Can you have
a tiny bit of compassion for the guy? It wasn't much.
He just immediately hit his head on the ground and
now he's in a medically induced coma. Yeah, I guess
it wasn't much. Okay. They so had blurry video punch
throne and get the license plate off a car. Apparently
(10:49):
also what we mentioned earlier this week on this show,
the paramedics didn't come and get the guy see the
guy in the parking lot until about four o'clock Pacific
the game was la first quarter the game had started.
This occurred by the mayor's own a mission in the
parking lot, therefore before the game, right, So, so who
(11:09):
called nine one on? Did nobody call nine one one?
And until somebody finally saw him? That's what I don't
know how much time had gone by from the because
that was very vague in the press conference. Well someone
saw him and called nine one If he was in
a group of twenty people, how did nobody say whoa whoa? Well,
how did nobody because they're all forty nine fans. When
the guy falls down, hits his head, nobody stops, nobody
(11:31):
calls nine one one to help. He was just laying
there by himself and he found I mean that that.
You gotta give me a little bit more information than that,
because it already seems like you're hiding things. Right, This
wasn't made public until three days after Yeah, and and
Butts was very It took an l a times request
just to get the story out. Uh, he was combative
(11:51):
on that. I mean, this is just reprehensible, by by
the by, this guy's a mayor of a city, and
he's blowing off what happened. It's not that big a deal.
And then when he's asked, hey, is there going to
be more security? No, we don't need more security. Really,
that's the answer. You get that because I understand, Hey,
you're not gonna stop every fight, which is what he is.
You're not gonna sive. But isn't your answer, Hey, we
(12:12):
kind of need more security because this has happened throughout
the year at our stadium. Instead, No, no, no, we
don't need more security. I feel like he's blown it
off well as far as this is the mayor of Englewood,
the guy who blew a lot of things off to
try and fast track as much as he could the
building of this exact stadium in his city. You know
how in Los Angeles, NFL to Los Angeles stories over
the decades, it was too various parts of Los Angeles County, Inglewood,
(12:37):
his city, which is separate from the city of l A,
separate from the l A City Council. His city of Inglewood,
near the airport, got it. It's that stadium that the
RAMS owner built that, as we mentioned earlier this week
on the show, has been a constant site of fights
at Rams games this year. Fortunately it's not the Rams
(12:59):
running the Super Bowl, it's the NFL's game a week
from Sunday. But this is the aftermath of the final
Rams home game of their year. I mean, I I
just what what an obtuse and reprehensible statement to make?
I mean that there there's no emotion. Hey, this is awful,
this is terrible. Now, hey there was a fight nine
(13:19):
one one was the paramedics were called. Now, we don't
need any more security. Look, this wasn't a big beating thing.
Uh No, we didn't try to hide this, even though
the l A Times had to look into getting this
for three days. I can't get over this. I mean,
there's there's certain human things that you can sound a way,
you can talk about in a press conference. And he
he just is basically clinically with this, saying, yeah, that's
(13:39):
not a mean, we figured it out. Look, I'll talk
about it because I have to now because everybody knows
about it now, so I'm gonna mention it. But these
things he said, Oh, I mean give you goose bumps
that that that a guy who is actually a mayor
of a town can talk about this tragedy and and
and make it sound like, oh, the guy slipped and fell,
what are you gonna do? You know, like it slipped
and fell walking, you know, walking up to deliver mail.
(14:01):
Oh sorry, but I slipped and fell the you know,
the street. The concrete was frozen. Because again the way up,
the way a group of people deal with the story
makes it a bigger story. They you know how you know,
like not just Inglewood, but anybody that hosts the Super Bowl.
They try and clear out the homeless, which happened here
in recent weeks around the stadium to put on a
(14:24):
good face when the world comes to your town hosting
this big event. And you know, so FI Stadium is
going to be hosting the whole week of stuff. Who
mentioned the NFL Honors is at the stadium, at the
theater that's at the stadium. On Thursday night, National TV
will find out m VP, Coach of the Year, the
rest of who's in the Hall of Fame. All of
that NFL network headquarters, their new offices are literally right
(14:45):
next door to the Ram Stadium. You could throw a
football from the stadium entrance up through the windows of
the NFL. It's that whole complex is the center of
the NFL universe anyway, but no more so than next week,
and they're trying, or try past tense, to shove the
story under the carpet, and it didn't blow away. Be

(15:50):
Jason Smith Show with my best friend Mike Harmon. He
is off Tonight's special delivery. Steve de Sager is in
and boy do we have rate big NBA juicy rumors
Tonight Supposedly James Harden on the block. The Nets are
open to trading him, the Sixers want him. Clippers already
(16:10):
make a big trade today. Getting Norman Powell Robert Covington
is big. It is a big it is And I
just keep thinking the Beastie boys all Clippers throw in
the towel. You traded three guys for Norman Powell. I
just keeps going through my head. Norman Powell from u C.
L A. By the way, it goes to the l
A Clippers now. And this is a guy who is
averaging nineteen points a game for the Blazers, and as
(16:31):
I recall, has a long contract. So while the two
superstars have been out with injuries and the coach actually
let it slip. The Clippers coach toronlu last night, Yeah,
we're not expecting Kauai Beck what huh wait what Wait
a minute, what he's not coming back at all? Wait wait,
wait a minute. I can ask our gask about that.
But I think he backtracked a little bit. But yeah,
the Clippers actually they got a player from the Blazers
(16:51):
in this trade. NBA trade deadline is Thursday afternoon. By
the way, let me slip in here, Mr Jason Smith,
do you know that it being after midnight East Durn time, Now,
that means it is now tomorrow afternoon in Beijing, and
that means we've got some Saturday curling coming up within
the hour, USA against China in miss doubles after the
(17:12):
the Americans did wind up winning against the Swedes. The
Swedes froze you might say, at the end of last
night's game, and so we've got that coming up in
like forty five minutes. It's gonna start. Let me know
what channel it's on, because right now I'm still watching
the Parade of Nations, So which let me know where
it's gonna be this morning with us now to break
(17:32):
it all down, l a Times Insider, extraordinary NBA experts.
You can fall on Twitter at Dan Wikey Sports. It's
a Dan Wikey Sports is the aforementioned Dan wike De Double.
What's up, buddy, Jason. That's funny to hear you talk
about the Parade of Nations. So a little bit of
a brag here. When I was in Tokyo, I was
(17:53):
able to procure one of our limited um credentials to
go to the opening ceremonies, which you will remember happened
in Ason Stadium with like two people in it. Right.
I don't know why the credentials are limited, but anyways,
I was able to go. I have to tell you
the prative nations in an empty stadium. It's so boring. Um.
(18:17):
I'm not proud to say this, but I will tell
the truth. I definitely left early. Um. It was like
the ceremony itself. It's funny, it's um kind of you know,
the Olympic writers. But it was my first Olympics, so
I was all excited to go, and they're like, you're
gonna way wishing. We're just like in our office drinking
deal watching this. Well, at least it's not twenty five
(18:39):
degrees yeah, at least it was. At least it was sweltering.
At least it was humidity when I went instead, and
I did though. One of the upsides I did get
to hear a a cover version of Earthwuen and Fires
Fantasy hung entirely in Japanese. Like that was nice. That
was a nice like kind of twist. Um. But it
(19:00):
was maybe one of the worst events that ever attempted
in my life. So when you left and they say, hey,
everybody's don't worry about it more. The guy left, the
guy was watching left just stopping pretty much turn the
lights on. Every just kind of stopped walking in the circle,
and they're like, okay, like who are we dancing for?
You know, it's like it is one of those things
(19:22):
like it's like these people are waving like they could
have like just come up to each one of them,
could have come up to me and introduced themselves. There's
a nice handshake. All right. Hey, so let's get to
some NBA here a second. First, Steve mentioned coming in
last night we get deal. By the way, look we
got a and uh yeah, we're not expecting Kawen Leonard
back all season. Wait wait, what is Kawai let it
(19:44):
really not coming back the rest of the season. I
mean right, like so it's a right, and we're kind
of in a year that sounds like a I mean
generally speaking right as like a ten to twelve months recovery,
and you know, I don't there there's been some like
kind of behind the scene mixed messaging on Kawhi Leonard
and kind of where he's at the you know, there
(20:04):
were some real whispers of optimism at a certain point. Um,
you know, obviously ties that what you said last night. Honestly, like,
I think the truth on this is that there's like
one person who knows it's Kawhi Leonard and then generally
like how his um, how he's handled injuries in the past. Uh,
you know what I mean. So I think it's it's
(20:25):
best generally to be like, let's plan for a conservative um.
You know. I think the Clippers largely have operated this
year like they'll be without Kawhi Leonard. Um, just sort
of a general sense, you know, UM, And I don't
I don't think today's trade changes any of that. UM.
I think that that's sort of how they've always kind
of viewed this season. And then if for some reason
(20:48):
something changes, like awesome, like you get to a Kawhi Leonard,
you know. And I mean, we'll see what happens with
Paul George when he gets his um, you know, kind
of upcoming him around and the elbow. But like it's
sort of you know, I think at this point generally
speaking like sort of the same thing. It's like, you know,
you expect the worst and if if it's different than that, like,
so be it. Dan. This is Steve. We talked about
(21:10):
the seventies sixers on the show tonight. Because if there's
a trade involving don't they automatically become the raised eyebrow
of Oh, that could be the one seed in the
East because they're hardly a bad team. Now, could be
a game out in the East now after tonight. Yeah, sure,
I mean I think it's it's certainly an interesting, like
I mean, a really interesting trade, I think, um because
(21:31):
because and you know, the piece, the big piece that
they're sending out is giving them zero production this year. Right, So, um,
A lot of times you don't really acquire a player
like James Harden without without I mean you're not giving
up nothing, but but essentially right, like it's like turning
an n f T. You're giving up a headache, is
what you're doing. You know. It's like it's like a
(21:53):
like a board ape or something like that, right it is.
It is not something you like really owned. Um, but
it's to me, I think, um, like that's kind of
the interesting, interesting sort of element of this. Now. Look,
James Harden is not particularly um he's hard to play with, Like,
I mean, he's just he's a super ball dominant player. Um.
(22:15):
It's why that kind of fit in Brooklyn has always
been a little wonky, and I think, um, I'll be
curious to see, you know, how he meshes with the
post player, like you know, Joel Embiid. But but look,
he's obviously a great player, and I think makes the
Sixers certainly um a favorite, you know, I think, I
(22:36):
mean Joel and Beads has probably been the best player
in the league this year, and um had a chance
to see him just you know, and uh a, gosh,
one was that a couple of weeks ago when the
Lakers were in Philadelphia and and kind of you know,
left the gym like like, I mean, the Lakers sold
out to kind of stop them beat you still had
a good game at a great game, but but you know,
you look around and you see kind of like they
(22:57):
have sort of the role players that seem like they're
ready to fit in on a championship level team. And um,
you know, I think obviously we know how much they
are more like James Harden and and it just seems
like it seems sort of like a natural landing spot.
Now that being said, trades like this happening at the
trade deadline are rare, right, like very rarely do we
(23:21):
see this and and obviously it does seem a little
bit like a perfect storm is sort of brewing. Um.
You know, obviously the Nets have lost seven in a row.
Um we have you know, the sixers are you know,
enjoyl embiid is having this great year and you really
don't want to waste it by being stubborn. Um who knows?
Sort of like what the next sort of um wave
(23:44):
of COVID restrictions are going to be like in New York,
Like maybe all of a sudden cayreerving is able to
play in home games? Do you know if if numbers
continue to dip and stuff like that, So, I mean
there's there's It does sort of seem like maybe there's
enough stuff at thinking where we could see kind of
one of these really rare um sort of deadline blockbusters.
(24:05):
Will the Lakers make a deal that can ensure they
get Brawny James in three years? So Lebron can make
it so we can play with Brawny. We're gonna get that.
I mean, they're gonna need Brawnnie to be undrafted. I
don't think they have any picks. You know, this all
might be happened in New Orleans. Uh, you don't look
I'm looking at this, dad, and I go, okay, I
(24:26):
get that. In the report today, we're talking about that
that Lebron wants to play until he can play with
Brawny and he could leave the Lakers to make that happen. Um,
I look at it this way. You really think Lebron
is gonna play three more years? I mean, he's gonna
make it three but he's not making it through this year.
He's gonna make it three more years before Brawnie shows up.
I mean this has always been sort of like, I mean,
(24:47):
I don't even know that it's been like that whispered right,
Like it's just kind of I think the reason why
no one's ever really been that explicitive about it, and
I think Lebron would probably say this too, is sort
of like you. I mean, you don't want to set
the standard for Bronnie James today to be like, oh, like,
you better make it to the NBA to make this work, right,
Like it's a pretty high bot um. And there are
(25:08):
a lot of children of great basketball players who don't
make it to the NBA. And it's totally fine. It's
really hard to make it to the NBA. And I
think obviously for for a kid already named Lebron James Jr.
You know what I mean, like that sort of layer
of pressure, Um is it's probably not super healthy. Uh
(25:30):
that being said, Um, you know, I mean I think
like right like the contract lines up floor it right now. Um.
You know, I don't know that it's it's forcing a trade.
It's you know, I think it's keeping options open and
seeing and if this opportunity presents itself, Um, for a
sort of Ken Griffey senior Ken Griffi Jr. Type moment um,
that'd be really nice. It'd be it'd be a nice
(25:51):
thing to happen in the NBA. But like you know,
to your point, I mean, Lebron's gotta get there, Brownie's
gotta get there. Um, you know, we all have to
get there, so thick that happened between now and then,
uh you know, to make this all work. But but
I think, um, you know, it's interesting, Like I am
very curious and this is this is me pivoting. Um,
(26:14):
I am very curious to kind of see what this
sort of next stage of Lebron's crew looks like. Because
like obviously, when he's been on the court, He's been
wildly productive. But now we're looking at sort of you know,
in years three with the Lakers, we've had um, two
that have been severely impacted by injury. Um, I'm sorry,
this is your four. So we've had three years that
(26:35):
have been severely impacted by Lebron James injuries, and um,
you know, the one that wasn't had a you know,
a three month break in the middle. What about this
year's Lakers though, with Lebron maybe not playing again tomorrow
and the injuries probably aren't going to stop, right And therefore,
is it a fair question to ask out loud, are
there going to be fighting for one of the last
(26:56):
play in spots at the West? I mean they are
right now, right, Yeah, I think there's nothing. Uh, I mean,
no one, no one would tell you that that's a
dumb thing to say, you know, I mean I think, yeah, yeah,
I mean. The weird thing about the Lakers, and I
will say, like, like for me specifically, like the very
weird thing about the Lakers is that like they do
(27:19):
sort of operate a little bit in this like imaginary space,
right like we've seen I think it's sixteen games or
something of Russell Westbrook, Lebron James, Anthony got I think
then or something like that. It's not but they haven't
played great, right, like they haven't, um, you know. But
then like so you're like, okay, well, like it's probably
not gonna work. Let me see like Anthony Davis like
(27:40):
the glass four games, right, and like this is Anthony
Davis playing at a level that I haven't seen Anthony
Davis play, you know since the bubble, like honestly, like
the defense, yeah, physically dominant, playing kind of nasty, um,
you know, tough, and it's like, well, if they have
like this guy and you add him to like that
(28:01):
Lebron James that was scoring you know, five points a game, um,
you know at least like every night with with a
d out and then you kind of add them to
this rust. You know, over the last like ten games,
is kind of finding his way a little bit more
than he was like the previous forty. It's like okay,
like that's maybe there's something there and what's And you
(28:23):
feel like a moron because all the evidence tells you
like hey, idiots, like this team is like the ninth
best team in the West, Like their defense stinks their
offense stinks, they don't have a lot of depth, a
roster slow, they can't trade for anybody. Oh and by
the way, they're old and they're slow, and they too
getting injured, right, And it's like that's the evidence that's
in front of you and I probably should be paying
(28:44):
attention to that. But it's like, you know, these guys
like Lebron James Anti Davis won a title with like
good roster. But I was like, you know that, and
it's like, you know, there's just still pretty great players,
and you started to kind of wonder, like, you know,
don't maybe maybe maybe you know, maybe they're a little
(29:04):
better than we think, but I don't know. It's a
night tonight adventure, Like they are such a high variancy.
Did you watch them and you like you swing between
being like maybe there's something here and or me just
being like I just want to run my head into all.
This team is awful to watch and it's it's a
it's a very unhappy existence guy. He is the happiest
(29:27):
baseball or basketball analyst the world. Dan Wikey on Twitter
at Dan Wikey Sports. That is at Dan Wikey Sports. Uh.
Dan is always buddy. We appreciate your time, and when
the Lakers trade Westbrook to the Knicks later on tonight,
we'll call you back. That's exciting. Let's do it, probably
for hey, probably for a power forages. Yes, that's true. Hey,
(29:49):
how's your next Power Forward podcast going? It's great. We've
got Charles Smith next week. I keep trying to get
um and he he like, it's really close to making
it happen, and then something goes wrong right until last second.
So hey, will you still continue with the Knicks Power
Forward podcast if they trade Julius Randall, Oh, we might
have to shut it down. We might have to shut
(30:12):
it down. We may have to pivot to Canadians. Okay,
all right, that's the former r J we do in
r J Barrett episode. We can bring back the Ignieceus
brit zicis era of Knicks basketball. It really we could
just rip through all the Canadian Okay. I thought you
meant like the Montreal Canadians. I'd be up for that too.
Oh yeah, well whatever, that's I'm a rsual guy. Appreciated, buddy.
(30:36):
We'll talk to you next week. Alright, guys, have a
great weekend. Man always great stuff from Dan Wicky boys.
He's excited about the trade deadline, Steve, But yeah, there's
another one, Samuel Dallen just by the way. So let's
just put it out there. How about Westbrook for Randall
and we'll be done with it. No no, no, no,
no no no. How about I'd rather you take take
(30:58):
Julius Randall, we get nothing but the leaf of his contract.
I'd rather do that at this point. Look, the Knicks,
they're they're gonna be the team. I'm telling you, they're
gonna be the team that makes the biggest trade because
they have a deep roster. They just don't have a star.
And the only guy who's gonna be quote untouchable is R. J. Barrett.
That's the only one. They have ten pretty good players.
(31:19):
For accounting, Camradish will eventually get into a game. Well, everybody, yeah, right, Well,
because we still got to get Zion and we still
got to get Mike coach k after this year, so
we gotta get shired to be the Knicks coach and wait,
and we still think that is going to get fired
at some point this year. Therefore, he'll be available a
former Duke guard if he wants to come back and play. Yes,
we'll get Christian late. We're gonna be fine. We were great,
(31:40):
We're gonna we're gonna be yes. But they they're the
one team that can make that big three for one
type trade for a team that wants to trade a
star like a Bradley Beale, or if Mitchell and Gobert
really can't get along with each other and the Jazz
have to do something because they've been losing, and that
was that was reported today about how they really can't
(32:01):
stand each other, the Knicks will be the one because
they have that they need a star. They have a
pretty good they have a pretty good one through eight, nine, ten,
once you you get into uh Tom Thibodeau's rotation, if
you can break in. So that's the team that's gonna
make the big trade. The other teams they'll make some
stuff and maybe we see the big one with James Harden,
but the Knicks will make the big one. They'll bring
(32:21):
in a star because they kind of have no choice
but to do that at this And as as we
talk about NBA throughout the season, keep in mind it's
not one through egight that goes to the playoffs. There
are the playing games now, so you could say, if
you're the tenth place team, hey, we're getting in the
playoffs because they're counting the play in as playoffs, so
it's one through ten in your conference, go to the postseason.
(32:42):
The Knicks right now are one game out of the
tent spot in the East. Be sure to catch live
editions of The Jason Smith Show with Mike Harmon weekdays
at ten pm Eastern, seven pm Pacific Fox Sports Radio.
That Jason Smith Show is Steve De Sager in for
Mike Harmon. And uh, this NFL coaching rumor that was
reported today, there's a large part of me that so
(33:04):
wants this to happen. Then there's a very tiny part
of me that thinks it's gonna happen and wind up
being great. But then I go back to there's no
way it's gonna be great because this guy is an
awful coach. Something to do with the Jets obviously, well
well yeah, well yeah, uh well, And as also, I
would be upset because this means where we might not
get Bill O'Brien back in the National Football League, which
I really want because now there's an opening an offensive
(33:27):
coordinator for the Patriots, and Bill O'Brien has been named
to potentially be that replacement for Josh McDaniel would not
be general manager. So that's a good thing. No, he'd
still make trades. He'd still make trades. You watch Belichick
and be there on Sunday going, hey, what why isn't
Mac Jones out here with the Ones? Oh? I traded
him on Friday. Yeah, I wasn't feeling it. You get Johnson,
(33:49):
I got David Jonson, I got and a conditional sixth
round pick. So it'll be fine, don't worry about it.
We will, we'll be good. We'll just I'll just put
I'll put put Stidham out there. Said, I'm not on
the team anymore. Oh, you gotta tell me that Bill,
I really got you gotta tell me of these things. Um,
So it would be Bill O'Brien not back with the Patriots,
but a name that quote keeps popping up for the
(34:13):
Patriots offensive coordinator job, according to the NFL Network, is
Adam Gaze. And I so want this to happen the
Jet I so want to happen. A guy who has
failed miserably offensively whenever he has had a quarterback not
named Peyton Manning. I mean forget about the fact that
(34:35):
guy was a horrendous head coach, the horrible leader of men,
was completely in over his head. Piste off the Dolphins.
The Dolphins got rid of him. The Jets said, oh,
come to us, because you beat us twice. Dude, everybody
beats the Jets twice. That's not that's not special. Uh.
He failed so miserably with the Jets, and now he
could wind up being the offensive coordinator of the Patriots,
(34:57):
so he could do for the Patriots what he did
for the Bears, great offense. Who well, I'm sorry, Mike
Carmen's not here. I thought it just running into the ground.
I can just take this heaven run in the ground.
He's a he's a horrible coach. He's a horrible coach.
He's a bad offensive coordinator. He tries to he tries
to play scheme over player, which never works on offense.
(35:19):
It can work on defense, but it can't work on offense.
And you've seen it fail everywhere. But he had Peyton Manning,
and Peyton Manning got along well with him. So all right,
that's why Adam Gates keeps getting jobs. I can't believe
anybody's thinking of hiring this guy, and much less the
Patriots At Offensive Cordina, I thought he was done coaching.
I didn't think the NFL would go near McGinn after
(35:40):
that tobaccle with the Jets. But now here he is. Yeah,
make this happen. I want to see mac Jones turned
into a guy who can't throw for more than a
hundred and five yards a week. Let me see that happen.
There are retreads, and we have plenty in the NFL.
But if you're a young treat retread you can you
can get a look see again, And apparently that's what's
happening here. Oh man, I'm still young. He's got maybe
twenty five years left in the league. Seriously, I mean,
(36:04):
I so wanted to happen. But then I just think,
is he just gonna succeed just because he goes to
the Patriots and suddenly Mac Jones throws for thirty nine
touchdowns and Adam Gaze is getting a head coaching job
to get somewhere, there's a there's a tiny part to
be like maybe my liver that thinks that maybe that
could happen, but the rest of my body thinks, yes,
let Adam Gaze go be a head coach and well,
(36:25):
I would say your liver is not a very good
filter of information. In that case, Adam Gaze could be
back in the NFL. Make it Happen. Make it Happen,
