(00:23):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio. I hate that song.
Greetings and welcome inside the Jason Smith Show with my
bast friend Mike Harmon, live from the Fox Sports Radio studios, where,
at the very least on the anniversary, James Harden is
(00:45):
not going to score a hundred for the Sixers against
the nixt tonight. Mike Harmon, as you like to say,
find your wins. I'm finding mine right now. No, that's
all you can do in what has otherwise been an
opportunity for to watch, for you, to watch your team
gets slapped around national television. You got to the Century Market,
were down, We're done for you. That gets hang on,
(01:07):
We're not getting but it stayed at ten plus the
entire games. Yeah, yeah, but well no yesterday, Hey, the
Lakers actually had the lead for a while fading and
Stanley Johnson could not save them on a Tuesday night
in early March. But you know, here, your Nicks are
(01:29):
are putting up at least a little bit of a fight,
but never really threatening. Really. The only thing that we
were reading in halftime, we're clearly a first half team.
And that's not that's maybe maybe it's not na No, no,
here's the thing. Maybe you want to eliminate games and everything.
No shorter here. See, here's where you're wrong. Maybe the
(01:52):
season is not too long, maybe the games are too long.
So we still play a two games? How about that?
We just played the first half? How about that? Us,
it's actually a hundred sixty four games and you get
a win or a loss for each half, a win,
loss or a tie. Why stop there? Why not get
you get make four games and one every quart just
(02:13):
like the All Star game. Right, that's what it is.
The Knicks can lose four games a night. See we're innovators.
Oh I like that. I kind of like that idea.
That's the way it's gonna be. Eventually, go into halftime
and you've got a chance to reset your fortunes right
then in there, not two days later. Not after a
long flight home. Nope, fifteen minutes in the locker room
(02:35):
while someone spends plates on their head or has a
dog chase frisbee, and then you're back at it to
try to even the score for the night. Let's get
a couple of wins here and we can improve our
record to one eight seven and one eight four here
at the midway point of the season. That would be awesome.
But tonight, yes, the marquee game of the night in
the NBA Sixers and the Knicks, nationally televised whipping that
(02:57):
the Knicks are getting one eighteen one oh two now
with under two minutes left to go, Harden with twenty
four and Bead's got twenty seven and twelve um everybody,
every starter on the Sixers and double figures. The Knicks
are gonna go down to defeat again. And here come
the Sixers with another big win since they got James Harden.
And I'm telling you, I told you, I'm again, so
(03:17):
I told you, and then I'm reminding you. This sounds
sounds like kind of like my mom would say, Now
I told you this once before. Now I'm reminding you.
It's like, okay, if I forget a third time. I
told you Harden was gonna work this season with the
Sixers because it's such a short shelf life. He's motivated
by what happened in Houston and how it didn't work
out in Brooklyn. He can be motivated for a very
(03:38):
short period of time. And that's the twenty games left
in the regular season here and whatever you've got in
the playoffs next year. It can all fall apart hard,
and can get mad at and bead. They can go
back and forth at each other in social media after
interviews on Instagram, all of these things. But now this
can work. This can work because Harden is motivated and
and clearly at this point in his career you're kind
(03:59):
of gonna get what you're gonna get from him. As
I've said, he's kind of on the slow ish decline.
But now he's motivated, and that's the best thing you
can say. And that's why I like the fact the
Sixers made the made this gamble for this deal. Because
you're all in on this year. The East is wide
open for everybody. I mean, this can work. I can't
believe that I actually thought I'd like something involving getting
(04:21):
James Harten, But I like this for the sixers. I
like it even more now. Like I said when when
this all went down, it's like, I don't care about
next year. Kenny helped Joel Embiid win now and in
a short time frame. Yeah, that's it. Happy. The honeymoon
period can last four or five months if this works right,
it doesn't even need to be that long. What is it,
(04:42):
four months till the end of June, and then they
can celebrate maybe with the parade or or whatever they do,
or go to one of Harden's favorite clubs, uh and
tear it up there. But it's it's not something you
have to worry about for the long term. There's not
you know, a contract that is an albatro Us for
the next five years that you've got to stare at. No,
(05:03):
it's let's get through this season. Make sure everybody's on
the same page. Make sure all the young guys are
getting the touches and rotation that they need so they
continue to grow to be that next iteration in the
post hardened world. Look, you're looking at him to to
fall apart in two to three years, and maybe that happens,
and maybe that happens. It doesn't matter for two and
(05:24):
for Joel Embiid. Come on the guys like he's found
his long lost best friend. Every chance they get, here's
a video of us working. I look how much we
have fun shooting around and practicing and whatever else. And
maybe it's all the big Cell job and behind the
scenes they are going at it like their w w
E superstars on a you know, pay per view weekend.
(05:46):
But for now, no, it's perfect and they'll get to
the freezer a line a lot, so the games will
be longer, which means the broadcast partners win because there'll
be more commercials. It's all good. Everybody wins Smith it
will and it doesn't matter that. Come on, it's done
for us. I mean, listen. As long as they listen.
R J. Barrett's the only untradeable guy. They can trade
seven other guys to get a star. Because they clearly
(06:08):
have no idea, They have no identity. They don't know
what kind of team they are. Thibodeaux is not working already.
You can see the team is kind of falling apart.
But they have a lot of depth. I've said this
for a long time. They have a lot of good
young players that you can package to get a star
because you don't have a star. You thought, Julius Randalls,
you start. He's not your start. Julius Randalls. Just okay,
he's just a guy in a great year last year.
(06:29):
Is a good player on a team that had that
at that called lightning in the bottle. But he's not
a guy. He's not your guy. Zion Williamson. Would he
constitute a distressed property right now? Uh? Listen, every property
that Knicks would have would be distressed no matter what.
Just by just by getting them, you're immediately distressed. It's
like when you buy a new car and you drive
off the lot and right away it goes down like
(06:49):
five dollars. Yeah, like all I did was drive off
the lot. Sorry, yeah, you can't return this car. A
man already adds, that's what happens when the Knicks get you.
You already lose a lot off of your luster. But
they could you go get a star and then everything
is the Knicks aren't that far away. I I look
at this year is a step back to go forward,
because what they've done is they've gotten a very deep
(07:11):
roster with young players that that many teams would covet. Now,
is it going to be enough to get a star.
If you throw enough players at somebody that wants to
get rid of a star. Yeah, you can do that,
and that's okay. The Knicks can go do that and
they can remake their team. But for the Sixers, I mean,
this journey is gonna end right now. If you told
me who's going to the NBA Finals out of the East,
I mean I I don't see anybody beating Philadelphia. I
(07:33):
mean this two man bull But what about Miami? What
did you wait? Wait, wait, wait, wait, let's go back.
Let's do one team at a time. You said the
Bulls if what if? What? Well, it's the old if healthy. Okay,
that's a big if. And Alex Caruso is on the
comeback trail. That's a big if. Alex Caruso is the
first guy you brought up with the Bulls. I mean, look,
(07:55):
you got you guys getting their job done otherwise, so
you know it's but it's a curiosity, certainly at this
point of what they'll be in a month. Right, that's it.
We got six weeks. It's the sprint to the playoffs.
But this this this Eastern Conference is really wide open
and it's looking for someone to grab it, right, and
(08:17):
clearly the Bucks are the champs, so obviously, Look, their
regular season is not always going to be great because
the top right, exactly. But the Sixers in this dynamic,
I don't know if teams are gonna be able to
figure out a way to slow him down in time,
because this is new. This is you know, you're gonna
see them maybe once over the course the rest of
(08:38):
the season, you're gonna see him in a series. And
like I said, Harden being motivated. Look, the Bulls have
injury issues. Look, the Heat are good, but the Sixers,
I mean, this is you just put to bleep in
Superstars together and you put it at the absolute last
best moment for James Harden and for Embiid. Look how
happy the guy is the I mean, I've not seen
Joel and and he used to be a really happy guy.
(08:59):
I mean, you know what was funny even when he
wasn't playing, He's trying to get dates with Rihanna and
everything on social media. He was fun and then he
wasn't really fun for a while, and then you realize,
oh man, this is really getting to him here in Philadelphia.
Then they get rid of Ben Simmons and now look
how happy he is. The guy's like bouncing around the
court like he's like he's like the girl from the
Blind Melon No Rain video. Just running around in a
in a big field with flowers in a bubble bea
(09:21):
cost somebody out there in our Twitter verse at swallendim
at how about a Fraska if you can somehow photo
shop in the bubble be cos that would be grab
those Harry Potter glasses and then go from there. You know,
if I'm not wrong, that girl made a lot of
(09:44):
money after the video came out doing that at parties
like she would she say, hey, it costs X amount
of money, I'll come to the party and I'll dance
to the you know in in a area to the song.
And she made money that way. If I'm I'm pretty
sure I remember reading if that's legit not just a
urban legend, that's that's all right. I mean, but I mean,
think about in this day and age, how much you
could have made off cameo oh those things. You could
(10:06):
have been a legend that you would not have to
say any never had to dance with any of those dopes. Yeah,
you have to record new messages either you can just
dance from it. I'll send it out to you. Boom,
there you go, there you go. Send I mean you
would have to retward the introduction. I'm sure, send it out,
send it out. How do I know this is an original?
For me? Hey, editing skills are beyond reproach. Thanks for
emailing me, Annabeth, here's your birthday dancing video. And then
(10:30):
you just you just go all the way through and
you have her just say all all the names. You
go in those big name books, like like when you
have a baby and you're trying to find out what
the best name is gonna be, you just ever read
all the names. And when you're done like that, you know,
the big big book of baby names, and literally you
sit down over a weekend and record like four thousand
of them, that's all, and then you boom. Then you're done.
(10:51):
Then cameo works for you. You don't have to be
one of those stars that go, oh my god, I
can't keep up. I can't keep up with making a
hundred dollars for eight minutes worth of work. I don't
know how to do the sad. Real credit card questions
require real people, someone who understands your issues and works
to resolve them with you. That's why I Discover offers
helpful US based representatives Available twenty four seven. Discover exceptionally
(11:14):
common sense. There's a lot of in the East. There's
a lot of good team. Look, look, the Calves are good.
The Celtics have made a big run lately to get
back up near the top, and no one separated by
a lot of games. But you know, the NBA, it's
still about stars, man, It's still about stars and and
and there's there's no two that can match what a
beating Harden can do together as long as Harden is
(11:34):
a guy that wants to be out there and is motivated,
stays healthy, all of these things. I mean, this became
a different team immediately. I mean he shows up and
suddenly it's whoa, Yeah, we're good. Now. We're just blowing
the doors off the teams and we're having fun. And
you could see it here already, the crowd that running
off and beat is hugging everybody in the middle of
the fourth quarter. It's just a different vibe and it's
(11:56):
it and sometimes that's the big springboard you need. A
trade isn't always about bringing in a new player. It's
about bringing in a new energy, and Harden comes in
and that's the new energy with the Sixers. I'm telling you,
if I don't know that there's a team that can
beat them right now in the East. If they're gonna
play like this and these guys, they're gonna be impossible
to defeat. And I think the Sixers going to the
(12:17):
finals well, especially if you get a couple more back
to backs against the well, yes, playing the Knicks always
does help, but it always does help playing the Knicks.
Yet I did the dramatic pause to see how quickly
you dive into yeah, yeah, yeah Nicks. Uh. I think
out there the Celtics in the six seed Cavaliers have injuries.
Back injury for Darius Garland looks like it's something that
(12:38):
it's gonna be an issue. And right now the All
Star skills competition that they had is starting to look
like the home run Derby What happened to his swing? Hey?
Wait a minute, why can't these guys get on the
court now? But what if the if say the Sixers
wind up in third, they could wind up winning the ease.
Let's say they wind up in third and they play
the three six first round against the Celtics. But what
(12:59):
if instead of the Celtics to get to play the Knicks,
I mean that would that would then then the Sixers
would move on and the Celtics. The Knicks are now
what thirteen games under uh and what one in nine
in their last year. No, this is I'm at the
point now where I'm at the point where every night
I think they're just not gonna win again. They're just
never gonna win again. The rest of the they're gonna finish.
(13:20):
They're gonna be on a twenty five game losing street.
They're gonna be the Georgetown of the NBA. They're just
gonna keep losing and losing and losing. But the great
but the great thing about the the NBA, though, and
just looking for what without even getting into too big
of the advanced metrics here, is that their point differential
for the year is just minus two per game under fives.
(13:43):
Twitter and out about a Fresco. Mike gets swollen down
the Jason Smith Show with my best friend Mike Carment.
Just get used to the Sixers in the finals. Getting
used to that Sixers in the finals. I don't think
there's a person left in the world that believes Tom
Brady has retired after what he said today, What is
it that's next? Right here, Jason and Mike Fox really
tie shirt? No blind melon? You had like eight minutes
(14:06):
to come up with blind melon. We did the whole
riff on the girl in the bumblebee costume. No blind me,
that's that's not how the song goes. Oh sorry, blood
melon and that that's not it's not either blind trying
do do do do? Is that how it sounds? That's
the Yeah, that's the beginning of the songlay Be sure
(14:27):
to catch live editions of The Jason Smith Show with
Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern seven pm Pacific
on Fox Sports Radio and the I Heart Radio app
Fox Sports Radio. The Jason Smith Show with My best
friend Mike Harman. Still no no rain, tie shirt? Still
really still Yeah. Listen to you sing. I didn't like it. Hey,
(14:48):
it's a long slow play. Yeah, I understand this, but
we just mentioned it. People would be expecting to hear
boo do doo. Yeah. But then when they're still listening
an hour and a half later, and we know who
you are and we love you for it, they'll smile
because they'll be like they love me and they brought
me back a little bit of blind now And Jason,
(15:10):
when do I ever give you what you want? Come on?
You know? That's you know? And you you wonder why
you're still single? You wonder why you're like the guys
from Say Anything. So where you guys are hanging out
at a gas station on a Friday night? Why by
by choice? Yeah, that's right, man, by choice here by choice? Yeah,
(15:31):
I'll have you know. I am the Ryan Reynolds of
nork O. So just remember that you're only good at
one thing and that's that's it. That's being an annoying
guy in a comedy action. How dare you get a mike?
He's an entrepreneur. I just I just told you the
truth about Ryan Reynolds. No thing really well, right, he
(15:52):
plays the annoying um. I don't know how you how
you would say it? The the the the annoying snarky
one does. That's all he can. He's great at it.
Eddie's made. That's a hundred million dollars off and over.
He's like Curry. He's great at one thing. He's he's
great at one thing. That's who he is. He's Steph
(16:13):
Curry and when you go down is one of the
greats at that one thing? What's the difference? I really
celebrate your entire catalog. I don't know, man, people are
gonna say all time great actors. They're not gonna put
Ryan Reynolds there. That's not gonna be on anybody's list.
Why are we laughing at Ryan Reynolds? Why are you
being so cruel tonight? Because what is your positivity? Tysha Wednesday?
(16:35):
Just because the Knicks suck? That's what I mean. You
now can just go and start blasting. Do you really
at these teams suck all the time? Do you really
think they get me in a bad mood sometimes? You
know they don't. No, no, no, I'm not saying it's lingers.
I'm saying there might be a twenty four to twenty
five minute notice your clock kind of hangover on such things. No, no, no, no, no,
(16:56):
We're absolutely fine. I'm used to the Knicks getting dropped. Hey,
the Mets and there's no baseball. The Mets aren't playing.
They're not affecting my mood. Everything is fine. And Ryan
Reynolds of on the Ryan Reynolds of Norco. He could
have said I'm the Josh du Mel of Norco would
have talked about Josh du Mel. You just really don't
like Ryan Reynolds. Hung No, I'm just saying he does
(17:16):
one thing really well, and he got extremely lucky that
they figured that out before people stop putting him in movies. Okay,
who's a better actor? Him or The Rock? Oh? Come on, man,
The Rock. Every movie The Rock does opens at a
hundred million dollars. No, that that wasn't the question. That
wasn't the question. There wasn't It wasn't a question of
whether you make money off your movies. See you change
the game. Who's the better act Spencer? No, I think
(17:40):
I will. I will go with Dwayne Johnson's better actor
than Ryan Reynolds. Yes, I'll go. Okay, Ryan Reynolds, re
Mark Wallburry. Seriously, Mark Walbert, who's been in Hollywood for
thirty years and still has a Boston access, can't lose
his accent for anything. You see, everybody else have been
able to chick. No. No, I'm still talking like the
same guy was When they can't an accent. That's not Boston. No, No,
(18:04):
that's me checks still clear, No casting casting director, no,
nobody in the in the lines all the way through
to decide are we going to bankroll uh, you know,
going through the insurance process. All right, we're spending some
more money to make him go through the physical and everything.
We're good with this. He still can't talk. Guys, nobody
(18:27):
says that they signed him, and they say, all right,
come on in. Would you like the Wallburger? Name one
Mark Wahlberg movie where Mark Wahlberg was the best thing
in the movie. Name one movie where he was at
a boy He was the best. You can the other
guys p capta. They gotta let me fly on this one. No,
t J. You know who was better than Mark Wahlberg.
The other guys were better in that Other guys. I
(18:49):
mean Daye Johnson was in that one too, and even
though he wasn't around very long, he and Samuel L. Jackson,
we're quite funny. And I mean, really, Eva Mendez was
the best thing in that movie. But and Mike, okay,
don't go chase the water vaults. But no, I'll still
give Walburg because he gets the best line. It would
be him that even Mendez than than Michael Keaton. Congratulations

Will you remember shortly after Tom Brady retired, I said,
he's not retired. Who retires like this? The greatest of
all time does not retire like this where a story
gets out on a Saturday and it's denied on a Monday,
and then a statement goes out and that's it. An
NFL network plays all the best of Tom Brady super
Bowls and there we go, and Brady is doing an
(19:53):
interview the next day. He's on Jim Gray's show a
following Monday. Nothing. Really, Tom Brady, the greatest her back
we've all seen, does not retire that way. So you
knew it was something that something is going on, and
maybe he should have announced I'm taking a leave, but
the retirement is just not gonna stick. When he had
a chance two times to say I'm done, I'm not
(20:15):
playing anymore, Brady blew it off and said, I'm just
living day to day and we'll see what the future holds. Twice.
Now here's a third time where Tom Brady today was
on Fred was on Fred Couple's radio show on Sirius XM,
and Fred Couples asked a very simple question, said, maybe
you can tell us where you're going, and this was
Tom Brady's answer, quote, I wish I had a clear
(20:38):
vision of what the future holds. I think for me,
there's a lot of great things and a lot of
great opportunities that I know. I said right after football season,
I was looking forward to spending more time with my family.
And I've done that the last five weeks, and I
know there will be more of that too. Okay, so
right away, Brady's done spending time with his family, right,
I've done that. What's next? Alright, I'm done, I'm done.
(20:59):
I spend time at all the kids. That's great. I'm good.
I'm done. Now what's that? A lot of energy and concentrations.
So those five weeks may have seemed like seven years.
When you give that much attention and devotion on one
person or one process, what's next, what's next? You know,
That's what people lose when they hear somebody say it's
(21:20):
time for me to spend time with my family, and
it's not and we always default too. Well, the guys
just saying that as an excuse. No, I do think
people genuinely want to spend time with their family. But
here's the thing. If for twenty years you haven't really
spent that much time with your family, and it's been
part time, it's been in the off season, it's been
(21:41):
certain amounts of times during the season. You don't just
suddenly say now I'm all in on my family. You
have a chance to be all in for a long time.
It's not who you are. You're that's clearly not who
you are, and other things are prioritized and that's fine.
But but but that's what people lose is that, well,
now they're gonna some time. No, because you're not suddenly
gonna change who you are after twenty years ago. Now
I'm spending this all this time with my family. People
(22:02):
don't do that. People they'll spend a little more time initially,
and then they'll want to get back to doing what
they did before. That's why it doesn't work about spending
time with my family, because boy, this is a new
thing for me. I've been doing it for so long
one way, and now I'm not just suddenly I said
I want to go all and spend time with my family.
Nobody does that. No, nobody does that. It's the entire
lusion of everything else. No one does that. You can't.
(22:25):
It's people who work their whole lives and go, oh no,
it's time for you to retire. They retired. Oh my god,
I'm going back. Banana's crazy and retirement why I don't know.
I don't know. Because you worked for so long you're
not ready for it. It's so it's so hard to
change who you are after twenty some odd years. It's
anything you do for that long. Anybody who lives by themselves.
And I got friends of mine who were single that
you know, well, well I'll talk to them and they'll
(22:47):
and I'll say, oh, you know, how this date go
with so and so and other people like, ah, you
know she was this or he was this. And I
said okay, and then I walk away, and I go,
this is someone who's lived alone for the last fifteen years,
and you're really unbending because you're used to things a
certain way and when somebody else comes around and maybe
you have to change who you are, wait a minute,
(23:08):
and I don't know. I kind of like doing it
my way for the last fifteen years. It's really hard
suddenly to give yourself to another person and say, okay,
let's figure out our priorities together. For for Brady, people
say I want to be with my family, okay, And
now after five weeks he's done. I've done been with
my family. I know I got more coming up, but
I've been with him. I've been with him, I've seen him.
Everything is all good. Uh So that's of course going
to be an itch to come back to play. But
(23:30):
but his first line, when Fred Couple says, maybe you
can tell us where you're going, I wish I had
a clear vision of what the future holds. This is
the third time Tom Brady has been asked, hey, clarify this,
are you coming back? And he can't say, And he
can't say no. He can't say he's done because he's
not done, because he wants to come back, and I
(23:50):
said this from the beginning. You think he's not. No,
of course he's coming back, right, this is what he's
doing now. The big thing Mike is going to be
And this is what I can't wait for because now
i'll it's I told you about Brady. Now it's clear
he's coming back at some point, I'll tell you the
next part is get ready for an ugly war with
him in Tampa Bay, because I don't know that Tampa
Bay is is going to just and you you saw
(24:12):
Bruce Arians yesterday say, oh, if Tom wants to come back,
we'd love to have him. Would you train him? No, No,
that's bad business. We want five number one picks for him.
Brady didn't walk away from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to
come back to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in a couple
of months. He didn't do it. He didn't do it
to walk away to say okay, I'll be back. If
he wanted to do that, he would have told Bruce Arians, listen,
I'm in but I need the next six months off.
(24:34):
But I know how to get in shape and I'll
be ready to go and I'll be there for the
beginning of the season. And Bruce arians, what's he gonna say. No, Tom,
we don't want that. No, he wants to get to
a preferred destination. Now. He got to Tampa. It was
a team that was loaded. They won the Super Bowl.
Now they're not a team that is on the road
to the Super Bowl anymore. They're a team that's in disrepair,
that needs a lot of help, that as an aging
roster that needs to fill a ton of holes. He
(24:55):
wants to get somewhere specifically. And last night we said,
maybe he said it's out a year and finds a
way to come back. Maybe it's it's a little bit
less than that, but he wants to get somewhere special
because he thinks I can play till I'm fifty. So
this retirement thing right now, it looks like a ploy
just to get out of things so now I can
come back and get to somewhere where I want to get.
(25:16):
I'm sure he was regretting le uh signing that an
extra year with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. I'm sure he's
regretting that now because like, oh boy, why did I
do that? Now I'm screwed. I wanted to go play
for the forty Niners. I wanted to go play for
somewhere else. Now I can't do it. But now this
could get ugly because if Tampa Bay doesn't want to
let him go, He's gonna want to come back, and
this will be a big war, especially if Bruce Arians
(25:36):
continues to have that voice. I mean, I know that
fans are gonna be all up in arms, going, let
Brady come back, Let Brady come back, and Roger Goodell
is gonna say, we can't get involved, we have to
let this resolve itself. Meanwhile, he'll be on the phone going,
you get Tom Brady back into this league right now.
I don't care what you do with Bruce Arians. I'm
coming down there to beat the crop out of you.
I mean, that's that's the next big thing is this
(25:56):
is not Brady coming back with Tampa. He's not gonna
I'm back with the Bucks. That chapter is done. Now.
The next place he's getting, that's where he wants to go,
and that's gonna be the big needle to thread. Can
I actually find a way to get there? We watch
Brett Farve do that, spend a year with the Jets
in exile when he when when he wanted to leave
the Packers and get out and get back and screw
the Packers over. I want to get to the Vikings,
(26:19):
but I can't get there for a year. So I'll
go there with the Jets. I'll say I'm retired, I'll
say I'm done, and then when the dust is settled, Okay,
now I'm going. So that's gonna be the big battle.
And clearly Tampa Bay can now get out of the
contract with Brady not owing money and because they're not
gonna put him on the reserve retired list for another
two months, which is gonna help them. There's a way
for Tampa to get out of this without having to
(26:40):
worry about money and and and paying Brady and all
and everything going on with it. But are they gonna
let him do it? If they're mad, watch them stick
I mean what, watch them stick it to them. That
could be the great story of the summer is Tom
Brady versus Tampa Bay. Oh. I think it's fantastic theater.
And like we talked about yesterday, I I'm all for
Tampa Bay saying all you want to play here here
(27:02):
or holding for ransom? Okay, Tom, you and your agent,
you guys go figure out where you can get us
just the the giant bounty that we could put on
our pirate ship and celebrate out in the bleachers there,
because that's that's what it takes. As we look at
the contract, the dead cap is fifteen million, cap hit
(27:23):
is only nine point one. Maybe we're looking at a
veritable bargain as it's currently constructed, obviously with the idea
that he would get more money. Not gonna leave that
much on the table. But for Brady at some point,
you know, it's it really just begs to the question
we've been asking, and really the the push on all
(27:45):
the quarterbacks. If you really want out, just say you
want out of the situation you're in, or deny what
rich Hornberger had to say about the relationship with Bruce
Arians or confirm it Bruce Area ends more or less
just a double dog Daria in his comments, you know,
because it would be bad business to just say, Okay, Tom,
(28:07):
you could thanks for the super Bowl. You can go
do what you want. No, like you said, you've got
a team to reconstruct a bit, you might lose your center.
You just had one of your offensive lineman suddenly retire,
said I'm out of here. Okay. The next level for
that works is coming back off an injury. Uh, You've
got a couple of pass rushers. You need to make
decisions on whether you can eke out one more year
(28:29):
on them. Leonard four Nett maybe leaving. Rob Gronkowski is
evidently coveted greatly to go pair up as a duel
tight end, uh Knox and Gronkowski a comedy you know,
cop Buddy series coming soon to Buffalo, So you got
that and rolling potentially. So, I mean, there's a lot
(28:51):
of reconstruction that has to happen. And maybe Brady now
wants to go back to San Francisco. Remember they didn't
want him a couple of years ago, but maybe there's
still an infatuation. They're going home, talked about going to
see and surprise his mom and all of those things.
Sweetheart of his story and the the extended reading of
what what he said to uh Fred Couples. But yeah,
(29:13):
I think it It sets up as probably the best
battleground of all of these because Aaron Rodgers the show
and he's pretty soft on it. The Packers are even worse,
and Russell Wilson and and Pete Carroll. It's all right, well,
we kind of like each other. I don't know. It's
like a bunch of fifth graders. Does he like her? Maybe? Maybe?
(29:35):
Can they still get along? I don't know. But none
of them have the fire in their belly like Bruce
arians who's gonna cut loose at any opportunity. I'm telling you,
Tom versus Tampa, that's gonna you put that on a
T shirt. It was Tom versus time. Now it's Tom
versus Tampa. Because if Tampa is gonna make a big
(29:57):
stink out of letting him out, that's gonna be the
big any point where you would say, hey, I'm gonna
I'll pay back my money. What do you what do
you need? I'll pay you back twenty million dollars. What
it is I want to get back. I'm getting back here. Uh,
that's gonna be a great, great story, Tom versus Tampa.
Get ready for that this summer. I mean, we know
he's coming back now, and it's not gonna be with
the Buccaneers. Not happening. Five weeks of family, five weeks.
(30:21):
I'm done. Five weeks. I'm finished. I spent enough time
with my family. I'm done. I'm already. I'm ready to
go back. Be sure to catch live editions of The

We tell you stories. You download it, you listen to it.
I think you like it. Listen to All Ball with
Doug Gotlieb on the I Heart Radio app, app podcast
orherever you get your podcast. Fox Sports Radio. The Jason
(31:06):
Smith Show with my bast friend Mike Harmon live from
the Fox Sports Radio studios. If you remember, about a
month ago, we went through all the big hires in
the NFL this season head coaching wise, and one higher
we had easily was one of the top three hires
and that was love eber Flues. So he was on
(31:29):
the list of the bottom of the he made he
made the top of the list possible by being on
the bottom. He's on fire though, a lot of positivity
going around Indianapolis right now. But yes, Lovey Smith touchdowns
arrived like butterflies. So we're back to butterflies and bees
(31:49):
do d do do dode. So we told you what
a great higher Lovey Smith was because sometimes teams need
a CEO head coach that comes in to say, you
know what, when problems come up, I can handle him,
I I can I can keep this team on focus
and we can dig from the bottom up. Because clearly
(32:09):
the Texans look David Culley was a nice guy, well respected,
completely in over his head last year's head coach of
the Texans. And so now let's find someone who wants
to come in and has done it before in a
big market. Lovey Smith was a big success in Chicago,
and this was a great higher because you need that stability.
Something you needed love You Smith or Jack del Rio
(32:32):
or someone like that to come in and just put
everybody's and go, don't worry. We got it. We got it,
and we can go from here. Today. He was asked
about the Deshaun Watson situation at the NFL Combine, and
every day you're getting DeShawn Watson, Deshaun Watson everywhere, everywhere.
But listen to love E. Smith's answer about how this
is going to come up with all the legal things
still up in the air for Watson, and just listening
(32:54):
to Lovey Smith's say how he said it makes you
understand that, okay, things are gonna be okay. Time kind
of taste care of everything. I know, Deshan is an
excellent football player. Excellent football players need to be playing somewhere,
you know, an NFL. And I'm you know, hopefully that
will happen if it's not with us somewhere else. And
and I'm sure as I see in this situation, both
of us eventually going to benefit from the situation. I
(33:16):
just can't wait for that that, you know, speed up
a little bit. I mean, that's that's that's that's the
grown up answer, right, that's all. We're both gonna benefit.
Either he's playing for us and succeeding and we're moving forward,
or we've traded him and we've gotten a bunch of
picks in its place, and time takes care of everything,
which it does, I meantime always does take care of everything.
(33:38):
And and for an everyday topic like Deshaun Watson, what's next?
Are you holding on him? Are you trading him? Who
are you talking to? To have that a day you
know that's regret. It's a great way to say, to
have that great adult answer from Lovey Smith. It doesn't
sound like there's anything that's gonna be too much for him. Look,
I've I've told you what's happening with Deshaun Watson. Eventually
we're gonna move on, and I don't know what it's
(33:59):
gonna to be. I I don't know that I'm gonna
go crazy going we gotta trade him now, I gotta
get these first round picks. Eventually it's gonna happen, and
eventually we're gonna benefit. And I'm here on the ground
floor and I want you to know everything is okay.
This is why the CEO head coach is making a comeback,
because when your leader can exude that hey, we got it,
(34:21):
don't worry about it, that is invaluable. Man, When you
can take a controversy and just tamp it down with
one SoundBite. I mean like, if I'm a reporter and
I asked him that about DeShawn Watson, is there any
need for a follow up? Is there any need to say? Yeah?
But no, Okay, you're hoping it happens soon, okay, And
all right, Nope, I think we're done. Love you all right,
I'll let you go and I'll hit you on down
(34:42):
the road. Okay, great, see you love me. I mean
that that's what you need. That's why head coaches in
in in the last few years, it's been on, let's
get the next grade O CE, the next grade d C.
The guy with a great system. But sometimes they can
handle being a head coach and you worry too much
about all this guy was a great offensive cord or,
he wasn't an offen to coordinator. I don't know that
we can hire him. But when you have someone obviously
(35:03):
those football as well as he doesn't knows how to
manage his staff and manage situation to take you through
the rough patches, that's it. I mean I see guys
like Lovey Smith, Ginhard and you know other teams around
the league going man, that team was an absolute dumpster
fire last year and now he has kind of stabilized
it and now they're just gonna start clawing up. I mean,
this is why the CEO head coach is making a
(35:24):
comeback in the NFL. The long road begins with that
first step. And as soon as you have a coach
and look, Lovey was also the interim coach there in
Houston as well, so known in the building of what
he can do, David Cully. Unfortunately, they weren't given him much. Um,
you got a couple of players and that excelled, but
otherwise it was a pretty depleted roster and really all
(35:46):
the uncertainty and having to answer all the questions about
Deshaun Watson did not help his tenure. So, uh, congratulations
to him for you know, being able to get that.
I know everybody was like, oh, you got a giant
pay day on the No, I'm guessing he would have
really liked your two to show that he could coach.
But you have Lovey Smith in there now, You've you've
got a couple of playmakers to work with. Obviously worked
(36:09):
the draft and the assets that you can build there,
and just trying to stabilize the organization because you are
in a division you know where Tennessee is your lead.
But the gap between you know, getting back and making
it a muddled middle is not out of the question
with a little more consistent play right because the Colts
(36:31):
are right now with a huge question mark of who's
lining up under center, you know, for the fourth straight year,
Every coach has to manage adversity. It's a huge part
of the job. That's why these guys are getting it.
Coming up next, got another big story out of the NFL.
And still we can't get Blind Melon, but we get
Katrina and the Waves or like the eighty nine Night
in a Row. Fox
