(00:23):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio. Greetings and welcome inside
the Jason Smith Show with my best friend Mike Harmon.
Where if the n c A Tournament is lucky, they
get a mention tonight. I mean maybe it's maybe a
small mention somewhere as book would like to say, challenge

(00:44):
the a get type on page D eight is where
it will be. Uh. It has been that kind of
crazy weekend and Monday in the NFL, so many signings.
I mean, I just look with the Jets did clearly
they're now going to finish third in the a f
He eats with the guys they've brought in. Mitchell Trabisky
does nothing for two years and suddenly everybody loves him.

(01:06):
He gets a job. This is the day in the NFL.
That is now the way to get ahead, do nothing
to prove either a you're an idiot like in our business,
or to perform poorly. We watched it at the combine.
I'm not gonna do this. Why I could show out poorly,
It's more advantageous to me to do this, you know,

(01:29):
at my pro day in a couple of weeks, when
I can put everything as perfectly as I want. No good,
good day, good for Mitchell, good for the NFL. Obviously,
the news of Sunday really catapult and everything. He's like,
all right, let's talk about seating that a hell, it's
seating to Brady's back. So yeah, it's been a pretty

(01:49):
wild forty eight hours and I'm here for it. Man.
It has been uh just one bleep, bleep bleep my
phone just going off one up date after the next,
and everyone from the Jets, I just gotta chuckle and go, Okay,
how does that help? It gives us we have a
guy to put out there. I mean, we know end

(02:12):
we don't have enough. Eventually have to uh, you know,
equalize the number of guys that they've let go or
who have signed away. Eventually they've got to at least
get back to uh fitting roster coach. What what we
need a tight end? Oh? Hey, go out there. I'm
so glad we signed you. Get out there, coach. What
we need a right guard? Oh right, okay, that's something
guy out there? No, but really, I love how you

(02:33):
know before we get that, we're gonna hit you right
between the eyes with the big Tom Brady hot take
in a second. But how cool is it that Mitchell
Trabiskie outside of you continuing to bring him up for
the last year and a half for really no good reason.
Outside of that, how his image and how people view
him just skyrocketed because he did nothing. He didn't show

(02:54):
that he couldn't do it anymore. He didn't show that
he could do it. But he did nothing, and so
maybe he's good. So now this is the guy that's
gonna likely take over for Ben Roethlisberger in Pittsburgh just
because he's done nothing to show you that. Okay, he's terrible.
Did you show anything to show he's good? Now? Did
he do anything? No, he just kind of sat around
for two years. But he was on the bills, and
the bills are good. So okay, let's go get Mitchell Drabinsky.

(03:16):
Sometimes by doing nothing, you can succeed. Yeah, I just
wish I could speak myself into one of those seven
figure jobs you know where I I've got a giant
team of folks around me pitching ideas and whatever based
on what I just did for Robinsky. Yeah, I mean
I got the success for him. Now I need to
speak it into my own television and and you know,

(03:37):
lighting and he needs he needs to do that for you.
He needs that's he needs to do that for you
now when he's a starting quarterback of the Steelers. I
really think people need to put that out there. Uh.
In my favorite look, you know the landscape. We've watched
it for a week now, right between the Aaron Rodgers
who still hasn't signed his contract, uh and now the
fight with Davante Adams. That'll be fun to watch. You've

(03:58):
got I want out now, I was coming back now
I want out legitimately, though, you gotta I'm not playing
on the franchise. Wait, Christian Kirk got what but we
got we got four hours to talk about all of
that stuff. But you know, you just watched as the
chips fell what was available to you if you weren't
willing as a coaching staff, right, maybe you weren't feeling

(04:24):
secure enough to really go and and try to strongly
state your case to ownership, or if you're an ownership
and just say philosophically, we can't bring Deshaun Watson in now. Reminder,
you know, for everybody missing it, Deshaun Watson has a
no trade clause. So he's kind of getting to pick
where he does and doesn't want to go at least

(04:46):
even for a first conversation, let alone to consummate a deal.
But you have places like Pittsburgh where I gotta think
in the ownership group, there was a we we can't
go down this road. We don't know what's still behind
door number number two, and it's gonna really cost us
a lot of assets, not only in terms of our

(05:08):
draft capital and what's going on the roster, but our
social capital, in terms of what the Steeler organization. You
look at brand equity and what you are that maybe
you just didn't want to go down that road. And
with Garoppolo coming off a shoulder surgery all these other things,
all of a sudden, Tata there's Mitchell. Hey, look it's

(05:30):
the guy who wasn't any good with them sign him.
So we need somebody just side of just bringing well.
But as everybody else falls back, right, it's one of
those things. Yeah, nobody stepped forward, everybody fell back or
the I don't have to outrun the bear. I just
have to outrun you. Yeah, they could have traded from
Mike White. Didn't happen. Oh, by the way, Mike White
turning one good game with the Jets into the head
coaching job at Georgia's that's that's pretty good job by,

(05:52):
that's pretty good. Hey, speaking of getting jobs, if cold
Canada calls aren't turning into hot hiring leads you need indeed,
because indeeds powerful hiring plat for him makes it easy
to attract, screen and interview candidates all from one place,
find your next grade higher visiting indeed dot com slash credit.
So that's just the tip of a lot of big
just a tip, just a tip, just the tip of
a lot of big free agent signings in the NFL. Say,

(06:14):
we'll get to a lot of them. We've got Jason
Lockinford coming up in a few minutes. But how about
a Tom Brady hot take titch right between the eyes
with right right this. First of all, let me say
I told you Tom Brady wasn't retired. I told you,
And now he's back after forty days of being with
his family. That's enough. I've got enough of my forty days.
That's my limit. Now I gotta get back out, gotta
get back out to work. I can't be home anymore.

(06:36):
How much of Brady's retirement, now that we've seen it
all in retrospect, how it happened. And the Bucks were
the team that we're aware that this could happen for
a while. Nobody else, just the Bucks were kind of
aware that this possibility would exist. He retires, there's not
a lot of fanfare on it. We don't get a
lot of talk except Brady kind of leaving the door
open to maybe he would come back. He's not saying

(06:57):
he's retired. He doesn't know what the future. Hall olds
and then Tampa Bay in turn says, well he comes
back with us, or he doesn't come back at all.
Bruce Arian says, it's bad business if Tom Brady comes
back and and and tries to go someplace else, and
then todda Tom Brady returns making the big announcement yesterday, again,
we told you this is gonna happen. Well and we
have the story yesterday morning, not not to you know,

(07:18):
cut off your thunder there, but the idea of that
Tampa was looking at all these different quarterbacks in the
name Baker Mayfield came up in the middle of all
of it as well. It's like, all right, there's Draft
in this and Todda, there's Baker. But now, how much
of Brady's retirement was because he thought he could retire,
get out of Tampa and get to a different destination.

(07:40):
How much of it now looks like I'm retired because
it clearly he was never retired. After forty days, you
don't say I'm done and come back, right, you say
I'm done and come back when you get into you do.
But but if you're Brady, I'm retired, it's uh. If
you're really retired, you thought about it a lot, and
this was something you don't think about it until you
get that itch to until the summertime comes and you're not.

(08:01):
Then you realize I really want to keep playing. This
was forty days and the one thing we've known in
the last few weeks is that if Brady did come back,
the Bucks weren't gonna do anything. You know, they were
they weren't. They weren't filing his retirement papers. They were
gonna use that to spread his cap money around under
contract to them and Bruce arians Uh interviews saying bad business.

(08:22):
Want how much of it looks like Brady was retiring
because he thought he could do it, get out of
Tampa and get to someplace else like San Francisco. How
much of it looks like that now, because that's exactly
what Brett Farve did with the Jets and it worked, right.
He said, Oh, I don't know, I'm kind of done.
I feel like I don't want to play anymore. The
Jets said fine, they drafted Mark Sanchez, and then you

(08:44):
know later on in the off season that they decided
to let Brett Farve go. Okay, and what happens Then
Brett Farve comes back to Minnesota. He's distinctly went to
the Jets for a year just so he could then
get back to Minnesota because that's where he wanted to
get to, right. He wanted to play for Brad children
wanted to get back at the Packers, and he did
that for two more years. Tom Brady is the same guy, right,
Not that things are so awful in Tampa but there

(09:06):
were reports he wasn't getting along well with the Bruce Arians.
The team went to the Super Bowl and one then
they weren't quite a super Bowl team. And are they?
Are they a super Bowl team right now? Not really.
They got a lot of holes of film, They got
a lot of aging veterans, they got they have a
lot of holes. They need to make sure that, hey,
we're gonna replace guys that could leave. They've already had
guys leaving free agency. Uh, they've already had some big
time losses. So if that's what Brady wanted to do,

(09:30):
this is kind of how you do it, right. You
retire for a bit, You hope the hope that the Buccaneers, hey,
they let you go, They figure out some kind of
pay out whatever it is, and then hey, later on
this year, I'm coming back, and I'm coming back to
San Francisco, and Jimmy Garoppolo gets healthy, and then they
can trade him. I can come back and do it.
Because that's what it looks like to me. All right,
his contracts are gonna wind up avoiding after this year,

(09:52):
and he's gonna wind up play won't play under the
franchise tag or anything else, and I can do that. So, uh,
you're gonna wind up seeing Tom Brady play this year.
Contract is, contract is up, and then get someplace else
in three to finish his career. This is not a
tom Brady returned for a year at a farewell tour.
I'll do it for this year. No, this is I'm
still playing and I'm gonna play for a while. Because

(10:14):
when you look at it from that perspective of I
just tried to get out of Tampa to get to
someplace else where I can win. I can get to
a destination that still wants me because I'm still playing
at a high level. Then it all makes sense because
this whole forty day retirement, I have all the support
of my family and now I'm not retired anymore. None
of that makes sense, not this fast. But he knew,

(10:35):
and he knew if he came back to play, it
would have to be with Tampa. So what does he do,
We'll screw it. I'm not gonna screw the team. If
I'm coming back to play, let me make sure I
tell them before free agency begins. You know they signed
Jensen last night. That was the first real clue, and
now that can be aggressive in free agency and figure
everything else out trying to build a championship team around Brady. Uh,
this more looks like I tried to get to a

(10:55):
place where I really wanted to get and maybe someplace
else not San Francisco, but that's certainly at the front
of any destination for Brady. But now that he couldn't
do it, He's gonna come back play this year and
then be able to go a year from now. That's
what I look at this retirement as. Yeah. I mean,
we had the reports two years ago that that it
was San Francisco was where he wanted to go, right,

(11:16):
go back home San Mateo, and all of that fun stuff,
uh did materialize, ends up in Tampa, and then you
have your Super Bowl parade, and then we look at
last year. Look, if Tristan Worth's is healthy, are we
looking at a different outcome for that game. I got
to imagine for forty days, with the number of times
he probably watched that playoff game, that was sticking in

(11:37):
his crop as it went to not to mention that,
you know what, You've had the seismic shift and it
only takes a couple of names to do it. But
we look at the NFC, you don't have a monster
number of contenders, so it's a lot easier to to
walk back in. As you said, the free agency timing
is is paramount to it, all right, the quote legal

(11:59):
tamp ring phase, which makes no sense. It's on oxymoronic
on its face, but it is what it is. Uh.
And they immediately become seven and a half to one
favorites for the Super Bowl. And part of that is
you've got Evans, You've got Godwin on his franchise tag,
like you said, you brought Jensen back. Yeah, you've got

(12:20):
some holes to to fill. But when we look at
the NFC as a whole, I'll take my shot with
a guy who just threw for and forty plus touchdowns
over virtually every other team that's out there, right, because
do you like them more than the Packers? Damn right?
You like them more of the Packers? And as I
alluded to you before, who's to say this all doesn't

(12:41):
blow up in their faces? Right? An agreement on Twitter
is not an agreement with your Your name in ink,
especially when you're number one receiver, is still a question mark.
That and they don't win when it counts anyway. So yeah, well,
I was, I was leading up to the big All right,
here comes the hare, but you got that. Obviously the

(13:04):
Rams are reloaded. But the Rams had a lot of
luck this year in terms of health, and that usually
doesn't happen for you a couple of years in a row.
I mean, obviously Woods goes down, you're able to bring
in Odell Beckham Jr. Cam Akers went down, who was
expected to play a bigger role, but you had other
guys that were more than capable. One great job by
the front office. I'm certainly not pushing away from it

(13:25):
at all, but a lot of your key contributors stayed
healthy that, you know, year to year, we watched that
become a big issue, you know, in terms of keeping
your squad rolling. They were fortuitous off for for the
most of the season. Now we look at Tampa, Brady
comes back in. We know he's playing on a very

(13:47):
meager deal, on a relatively speaking which means there's more
money to be spread around. Obviously, you'll get the merry
men back together. So uh, expect the Gronkowski video by
the end of day tomorrow, Uh, and then we'll work
from there. I think it was an attempt maybe to
get to San Francisco, But given what they had to

(14:08):
surrender to bring Trey Lance in, that became an awful, big,
big difficulty of Yeah, we're gonna bring in a guy
back to Tampa who's not ready, and we've now just
sent out other assets, probably a bunch of picks and
and others that it just the it gets to Fuzzy
Math Smith, Fuzzy Math. It could be the Jets, and
it might not be San Francisco anymore, but it will

(14:28):
be another destination. Why not? Sure? He can he hate
he hates Belichick. He would go play for the Jet.
He hates the Jets, but he hates Belichick more. He
would go back to the Jets in a second. Wasn't there?
I saw a rumored trade with the Jets that got
thrown away, and it was Zack Wilson. I forget the details,
but it was fun Russell Wilson. Fun. Let's yeah here,

(14:53):
oh no, no, no no, here you go. Um. Supposedly the
Jets offered three first and the first second Zach will
and for Watson, and the Browns offer these Texans Well
said note to the Jets quite clearly. So we'll continue
to watch that story. But but the Brady thing is fascinating.
We'll see how much uh it gets revealed uh in

(15:13):
these you know, as everybody likes to tell their tales,
and the more he's on podcasts and it will slip
of the tongue there somewhere. Just watch. That's Brady hot take.
Couldn't get out of Tampa coming back so we can
finish this year and get to another destination. Jets he uh.

(17:23):
So we have the tournament coming up in a couple
of days, first four games tomorrow night. We got the
Lakers coming up in a few minutes. Lebron James is
going to play. And we had the big day that
was in the National Football League, and free agent signings
have come, they have gone, And one of the big
high profile ones in the last couple hours was the

(17:45):
Chargers getting J. C. Jackson. Uh. The Patriots did not
have the money to pay for him, clearly. Uh. The
guy lit up one touchdown last Year's the best cornerback
on the market, and the Chargers go and get him
for five years and eighty two million and not that
one signing always tells me, all right, this puts a

(18:05):
team over the top. But man, I'll tell you my carment,
it's it's hard to not think the Charges aren't the
favorites now in the a f C West with the
offense that you know they have, and now they have
the best defense in the division that is gonna be
really really tough to be well. And that's the biggest
thing is they keep adding more on defense and and
putting Jackson in the secondary. Uh, as you've got pieces there.

(18:25):
We obviously celebrate everything Derwin James does. But fleecing the Bears,
all right. The Bears were moving on and trying to
create cap space by sending Khalil mackaway, but you add
him to this defense. Yeah, it is Uh, it's a
new world order. Watching some teams trying to load up
on offense Jets, uh and Jaguars. But the Chargers realizing, hey,

(18:47):
we we can play in an arms race right now,
here's what we need to do, be able to get
that one extra stop and going in big. I love it.
Joining us now on the hotline to break it all down,
CBS Sports NFL insider at straordinaire Jason lock andfora. You
can follow him on Twitter at Jason lockinfora taking time
out of his regional Eastern Seaboard lacrosse rankings to get

(19:10):
with us on NFL free agency. J what's happening man doing?
All right? How are you guys? Good? All right? So
what what do he was? What's your favorite move so
far today? What do you like the most? Is what
one team did my favorite move? Um, if it's the Jets,
that's okay, you can say. I mean, I guess you know. Look,

(19:36):
you guys were just talking about J. C. Jackson, twenty
six year old, true shutdown corner in his prime. Um,
who they get to control for the duration of his
prime and and do it without having to reset the market.
That's I'll take that. Um. That secondary should be quite formidable. Now. Um,

(20:04):
they've got the book end for Bosa with mac now
and and both. I don't think it's been quite the
same since Melvin Ingram. Um. You know, availability became a problem,
and I do worry about Bosa's health as well. But
they and they add a d tackle. Um, they had

(20:25):
to do some things to to kind of re establish
themselves at the point of attack. Um. Keeping Mike Williams
was huge. I mean, that was a team that I
wrote some columns in the last couple of weeks saying, look,
this is not going to be the same all Charger
as they can't be. They know in that building they've
got to spend. Um, you guys are out there. They
they've got to contend now with the Lombardi Trophy winners

(20:46):
um as sort of step children in Cronkey Stadium, And
how are they going to maximize what's left of this
period of time where Justin Herbert is such a bargain.
So I, I, you know, what's what's not to like
about what they've done? Um? Can they still do something
else on the offensive line? I? You know, I think probably, Um,

(21:09):
And then you still have a draft to come as well.
And it's not like you had to mortgage a whole
lot of you know, I mean for what they got
Khalil mac for, I'm very bullish on them. Um, that's
that's But then again, I also feel like I've they
had not done it this way before, but I feel
like I've fallen for this Charger's oaky dog before. And

(21:30):
it's a really tough division. But they they had I
expected them to make three, you know, significant acquisitions, and
and they've they've done that. Jason coming off of that, obviously,
we we look at the board of quarterbacks. Jason's mocked
me all along about Mitchell Trobiscuey. No, no, no. The

(21:55):
Steelers made a decision and they decided this is the
white route there take. So you need to shut up
in new your microphone. Okay, because the rest of the
quarterbacks now fall in line with a lot of wishing,
wanting and hoping. Regarding DeShawn Watson. Well, look, I don't
know what m R. Bisky is gonna end up being

(22:16):
in in Pittsburgh, but if you have a starting quarterback
for seven million dollars a year, you probably don't have
a starting quarterback. But but I get trying this. Um
he fits with the sort of elements and the philosophies
that Matt Canada believes in. Um, he's gonna be able
to extend plays with his legs. You're gonna be able

(22:37):
to move the target point around and and put him
in boots and waggles and r p o s and
option looks. That should open up some space for Naza
Harris and help out that offensive line. And they're gonna
they're gonna invest in an offensive line. They're gonna make
a move too. But it's probably still not going to
be a great unit. But but with the the the
need to defend the quarterback in the run game, now,

(23:00):
UM it may unlock a little bit. I just I
don't think Mr Bisky is going to be I think
he's more of an athlete than the quarterback. I I
don't know that he's going to be. UM. Somebody who
who's accuracy UM is going to be what you would
ideally get. And I think Jamis Winston UM in a

(23:20):
lot of ways, would have been a better fit for them,
except that they clearly want to run you know, Matt
Canada's offense, and I you know, so I get it
to a certain degree. UM. I don't think this precludes
them from drafting a quarterback though whatsoever, in the first round.
And then you know who's left. I mean, you know,
I think Jamis Winston is the best free agent available,

(23:42):
but he's coming off a knee surgery, and so you know,
we'll see there. And if the Saints don't land to
Shaun Watson, I think that's where Jamis Winston will end up. UM.
I thought kirk Cousins would be traded. There was a
lot of trade conversations regarding kirk Cousins, the Vike. He's
wanted a lot for him. Ultimately, I decided to double
down on him again for one more year. Um Garoppolo

(24:06):
can't throw until July. You know, he's probably dealt, but
you know what, what exactly for and where I think
that remains to be seen. But uh, the Steelers were
going to have to add somebody else to that mix,
a veteran with some NFL petigree, maybe not a great
one in the case of Robinsky, but someone who could

(24:27):
be better than Mason Rudolph. And I do think Mr.
Robinsky is probably better than Mason Rudolph. I just don't
know how much better. Jason Locking for our guest to
Jason smiths or with Mike Carmen live from the Fox
Sports Radio studios. All right, now, I want to hit
you with a Tom Brady hot take. And I watch you,
I watch you, I watch some of what you think
about you. Ready, I'm ready? All right? So, after he

(24:49):
un retires yesterday, how much of this retirement looks a
lot like Brett Farve in two thousand and eight, he
gets traded to the Jets. I'm gonna sit out. I'm done.
I'm done, I'm done. I really want to get to Minnesota.
And hey, after the Jets move on the draft Mark Sanchez,
he decides, I want to play. I go to Minnesota

(25:09):
for two years because that's where I really wanted to be.
How much of this Tom Brady retirement, because now it
looks like a complete sham after forty days, was because
he thought he could get away from Tampa and get
to a more preferred destination. UM, I don't. I don't
think it's it's that. I really don't. Um, you know,

(25:29):
I just go back to what I started hearing the
final week of the regular season and going into the playoffs.
I mean, this was someone who was sort of getting
himself ready for the next stage of his career. And
maybe he you know, maybe he talked himself into some
things that he wasn't really ready for. But but people
who know him really well, we're getting the sense that

(25:51):
he was at peace with this and this was probably
gonna be as good as it would ever get, and
he was ready to um come to grips with the
into his sort of sort of his football, you know, mortality,
and move forward and produced movies and be involved in
sort of that that side of things and be a
different sort of dad and husband. UM. I don't think

(26:13):
he set out with some sort of Machiavelli employed to
pull this lever or that lever and I'll jump back
in if this happens or that happens. I think he
believed that he could walk away and be relatively at
peace with it. And six weeks away and it's you know,
he would be starting to throw with Tom House and
getting back into his routine in full swing and seeing

(26:36):
some of these other quarterbacks call their shot and Russell Wilson,
now you know, jump ship. And he's looking around the
rest of the NFC, and he's talking to the glazers
and he's thinking, you know, we could still keep this
thing together. We really haven't lost much yet. And you know,
I I do feel good and I was probably the
m v P last year. Except he's not thinking probably.

(26:56):
He's saying I was the MVP last year, and I
would agree with him. So I think was probably more
organic and natural. And as he's sort of getting the itch,
you know, I think gisel Is is, rather than saying
over my dead body, is saying that, look, I don't
want your home and miserable if that's what this is
gonna be, um and you brooding about what could have been,
and and so he reaches a point where he goes

(27:18):
over to Old Trafford and sits down with the Glazers
and they tell them this is all the stuff we
could do to keep the band together. You really want
this and he says, great, you worked this contract out
with my agent Don Ye and let's let's let's roll
last one for you, Jason. The Cowboys making moves on offense,
how much predicated on the money tied up in Ezekiel

(27:40):
Elliott when you see m Marty Cooper shipped out and
Cedric Wilson shipped out and trying to figure out what
the next generation of this squad looks like. Well, this
was a team, you know, And again I'll go back
to Commo Rod last week. There's a team that I
thought was going to really suffer here in the early
stage is a free agency and that they're they're going
to have to become increasingly draft dependent. Is they've sort

(28:01):
of reached a point in time where the offensive line
is never going to be as good as it was
a couple of years ago. They're stuck with a couple
of bad contracts. They were able to keep the Marcus Lawrence,
which was huge, but I don't think they're gonna be
able to keep Randy Gregory Um And you're right, it's
a team that I thought that. You know, the Schultz
move was panicky to me. Um, the quarterbacks coming off

(28:23):
surgery again. The head coach is looking over his shoulder
every time somebody whispers the name Sean Peyton. Uh. Both,
you know, both coordinators have something to prove, certainly Kellen Moore. Um. Yeah,
how they've sort of allocated their their assets. A window
is closed there, whether they want to admit it or not.
And they never would, and they'll say, as long as

(28:44):
we've got Dak Prescott, we've got a chance, and as
long as we play in the NFC East, we got
a chance. And I said, well, you've got a chance
to win ten eleven games, but I don't think you
have a chance to win a whole lot. In January
and February. You can follm on Twitter at Jason Locke
and four that is at Jason Locke, and for again
all the Eastern Seaboard lacrosse rankings will ye. Three to

(29:09):
j is always buddy, appreciated, my friend. We'll talk to
you next week. Thank you, Jason. He got a Salisberry
State reference in there. That's pretty awesome. Now I want
Salisburry steak like I'm twelve again. That was like the
meal like twice a week we would have that in
middle school, right, wasn't that? Hey, what do we got Tuesday?
Salisbury steak? Okay great? It's Thursday. What is it? Salisbury steak?

(29:31):
Okay great? Like that was like the staple, Like, I
don't know what it. It had to be really cheap
because we had that too many times. Oh no, no,
that that's it. It was a cheap cut of meat
and then you can pair it with some rice or
noodles and patata. There you go for us. There was
the ever ready bag of egg noodles. That meal seemed
to have a giant pile of noodles on the side.

(29:51):
Perhaps that explains by fire and plug physique that never
left me from my childhood. Yeah, you know the salt
you ate, no s rolls over the course of your life.

with my best friend Mike Harmon. Go and uh, let's
take a look at that Lakers score right now. They

(31:39):
trail Toronto fifteen to uh uh sorry, make it seventeen
to um uh two. That's it's not a great start
for the Lakers tonight. Well, there's no place to go
but up. This is true. They are on pace to
lose this game. Let's see eight. Could they actually play

(32:04):
worse in a full game than they did yesterday? Because
yesterday was Even if you hate the Lakers, even schadenfreud
has a point to where you just said, you know,
and I'd rather watch something else because that game was
an absolute clown show. You want to talk about a
nose show. And the fact that over the last two weeks,

(32:25):
what are we at three to four people in that organization,
on that squad that have flat out called out their
effort saying, yeah, we haven't we don't try as hard
as we should. We need to be more consistent, like really,
now you're It's one thing to say we're not executing,
but to just say, yeah, guys aren't showing up with effort.
Man That's that's it, you know, Frank Vogel, you know

(32:48):
he's shadow shadow man. Phil Jacksons ready to come back
over the top. And like we said months ago, I
actually read an article last week and I kind of
chuckled about it. It's like if Jason Kidd would have
been there, he would have been the coach in the
middle of November. Phil been there. Yeah. Yeah, First we

(33:09):
gotta wake him up, Then we gotta get him on
the bus. Then we gotta get him out here. Then
we can hire Phil Jackson's works. I just like that.
He's omnipresent. Now yeah, now he's everywhere, right, and now
he's everywhere. Yeah now Phil, Oh, look at Phil may
it nineteen two Raptors on top of the Lakers. Time
out Lakers. Frank Vogel wants to talk it over. So
of all the free agent signings today in the NFL,

(33:30):
look that the one I like the most. We talked
about it with Jason lackinfora J. C. Jackson goes to
the Charger's true shutdown corner. They have the best defense
in the division, maybe the best defense in the a
f c Uh, there's no reason they shouldn't win the division.
And if they have a good draft, I'll make up
my Super Bowl pick. They are just that loaded. It's
almost like the Charges are too big to fail. Even

(33:52):
in that loaded division. It still has the Chiefs and
still has the Bronchos well, by the way, bringing Russell Wilson.
But the flip side of this, right, if we love it,
love it, love it for the Charges and they could
be a Super Bowl favorite. Now. The Patriots are in
trouble and we don't talk about them enough because they
had a big year last year and we love Mac Jones.
Mac Joges is the greatest quarterback in the history of

(34:13):
the game until he turned out to just be okay,
and the Patriots kind of peaked in the middle of
the season and then showed you that maybe we're not
quite as good as you thought we were. They're in
trouble because they have no cash in free agency. They
spent all that money last year, right, they had no
money to resign J. C. Jackson. They knew he was

(34:33):
gonna be gone because they had no money for him.
They found they you know, they just lose the number
one cornerback, they lost, they lost an offensive lineman. They
got a lot of overpaid deals from twenty one that
are just gonna kill them. Right, They went out and
spend so much money on Hunter Henry and John HU
Smith and Hunter Henry is okay, but you know for
what you paid for him, you wanted more than fifty catches. Yeah,
you had nine touchdowns, but still that's fifty catches. You

(34:56):
paid John H. Smith all kinds of money. He caught
twenty eight passes, he had one touch down, Right, Kendrick Boring,
you gave him a lot of money. Fifty five catches,
all right, Nelson Agaloor thirty seven catches. Jalen Mills was
just okay. You spent a lot of money on these
guys and said this is where we've gone, Like the
Patriots said, this is where we were sitting out the
year before, and we're clearing things out and now these

(35:17):
are our guys. And the Patriots had big swings and
mss on a lot of these players, and now they
don't have money. Now they have no money for this year.
So to suddenly think, hey, the Patriots are gonna get
better unless they find a way to wheel and deal
and make big moves and bring and and bring big
players in via trade They're gonna finish last in the
a f C East this year. They're gonna because everybody
else is gonna get better and the Patriots are just

(35:39):
gonna get worse. You can't just expect well the second
year from mac Jones. Stop. Mac Jones is just a guy.
Matt just a guy. When you look at where they're
at the free agency, you have to find a way
to get better. The Patriots spent all that money last
year to get better, and guess what now, these these
contracts are albatrosses. They are hanging around their next right now,
and they're not gonna have enough money to spend to
take that next. They were a nice story last year.

(36:01):
They were your quintessential Hey, overachieving team that squeaks into
the playoffs. Just above is one of the final wild cards.
That's kind of who they were, and they won't be
as good this year. I love the way you found
a way to get your Patriots hate out. Hey. I
picked him for the a f C Championship Game last year, right,
so stop with that, hete I picked him for the
a f C. The entire time, you you're like, if

(36:23):
I get one thing wrong all year, this will be great.
Because that means that this fail spectacularly. You know what,
I'll wear it. And every week you picked against them,
the mocked mac Jones, everybody terrible. You're still the Jets.
And the Dolphins added Teddy Bridgewater and all they did

(36:44):
was mess up their locker room at the expectations by
bringing Teddy two gloves in. They added America's bridge quarterback
in Teddy Bridgewater. He will eventually play for every team
that needs a bridge quarterback. He will be there. I'm
kind of bomb. They got him because they want him
to go somewhere. He could actually start and be the
bridge to the next quarterback bridge water. He's America's bridge quarterback.

(37:04):
All right, So I have a couple for you. I'll
take my winner real quick. Is the Jaguars. I don't
know if any of it works, but they're spending like
they just got a big check. And there's the guys
that win the lottery and they go broke two days later,
the Colts because they still have no quarterback. Uh. And
then that guy that paid five grand for Brady's touchdown
ball only to have him come back. Oh man, can

(37:25):
you imagine that? Hey, I bought this last ball? About
that last ball coming up next. I hate to say
I told you so about a big story, but kind
of did
