The Jason Smith Show with Mike Harmon on Fox Sports Radio.
Fox Sports Radio. Welcome inside The Jason Smith Show with
my best friend Mike Harmon, Hobo Hobo live from the
Fox Sports Radio studios, where we're finally on real college
basketball overload. The tournament's kind of started, really starts in

(00:47):
earnest in a few hours. While we were dealing with
that yesterday, while you were I don't know if you
fell ill because you couldn't fit syracusin. Dude. I so
here's the thing. You ate some bad boy No no, no, yeah,
bad point. No. This is gonna make me sound like
such a nerd like I have, Like, I'm sorry, I
can't do the show. It's I have to go find
my ear medicine. Um. So you know, I'm allergic to

(01:09):
dogs and cats, and I have an inhaler that I use,
probably I haven't used it in a year and a half.
And so I was in the house yesterday or you know, morning.
I ad up and we were there and I was
at a house and had a couple of dogs and
a couple of cats. I'm like okay, and I come
back home and I'm like, okay, well, I want to
use my inhaler so I can brea I haven't used
in a while. And I used it and suddenly in
my throat it was like, oh what is that? My
throat got really raw and my voice got really horse

(01:30):
like what the hell just happened? And turns out my inhaler,
because I hadn't used it was just old and so
my throat was constricted, and uh, it was really bad.
It was like it was just just above like I was.
I was talking like this like this is awful? What
is what does the matter? And you know, it was
just hey, this is this is what happened. Eventually, in
the next few hours, your your voice will get back

(01:52):
to normal. Just keep drinking a lot of water and
it'll happen. And I'm like okay, and I still feel
like about eighty Now I'm about like eighty five percent.
But I was is just studying. I'm like, what is happening?
What is happening? Why? Why? My my my future career
as a voiceover guy is going out the window because
now I can't even speak very loudly. What is how
it might actually help? Because now you've got a it

(02:14):
was and we've been a new It would have been
almost like wolf Men bet, wolf Man Jack a little
bit friend new. Hey, we're gonna talk sports for you tonight.
Shot to be what happened to him? He experienced some
tremendous throat trump. It was new world. It was so strange,
and I'd never have it. Said, listen, you're you're inhaler.
I'm like, okay, so I gotta get a Yes, i
gotta go get a new inhaler. I'm like, okay, great.

(02:35):
So now I'm like the kid in the movies where
it's like they discount him at the beginning because he's
got an inhaler and he can't run very fast and
he's got to stop and and take the inhale. I
would have to worry about him. Uh, And I don't
want he turns out to be the hero at the end,
So that that's kind of what I said yesterday, portraying
yourself as the hero. Yeah, well, well there you go.
You think you're the hero in my life story. Of

(02:56):
course you're not. I mean, am I here? Am I
the hero in your life story? I mean, I probably am,
but my shoulders hurt every day from carrying What do
they say, even the dragon is his own hero in
his own story, right, they say that even the dragons
is own here. So uh so, like I said about
but you know, like I said, I feel pretty strong today.

(03:17):
I was like, all right, I started to come back
the little bit last night, and then today when I
woke up, was a lot better. And I'm like, all right,
I'm just gonna keep keep drinking water. I'm like water now,
I'm like the unknowns. I mean, because we didn't know
what was going on, so we I mean we lit
candles in the studio, Torres set a prayer to over
over the loudspeakers. I mean, Tie Shirt was distraught. He

(03:37):
didn't know what to do with himself. So I'm sure
good to hear. It's nice of him to come into work,
tight Shirt. It's it's always always nice to have one.
You can't say that the little day you just come
back from work. A dude, I have one sick day
in six months. And look at look at what your tony.
You were gone like last week? What was that? I
was gone last week because I filled in a different
shown what that's doesn't It doesn't mean I call like Twitter,

(04:01):
It doesn't wow. Look at you? Well, literally, dude, was
uh you know, gasping for air feel the title of
the book by one J Moore, former Fox Sports Radio
Midday Man. H it was it was it look it was.
It was shocking. It was stunning, and I was like,
what just how a something bad happened? It was like,

(04:22):
oh my god, this is this is awful. I was
I didn't know, but I knew right away that's what
it was because it was an instantaneous thing. It was like,
what the what the hell is happening? What is wrong
with me? What is right? Yeah, we weren't sure if
a burger got in, you know, whether it was some
movie you needed to go to, had an expiring Disney pass.
We weren't sure. Yeah, because in COVID all the passes expired.

(04:47):
Uh no, So it was, it was, it was. It
sucked and the whole time last night, I'm sitting there going,
I can't have all this stuff. Mike Woodson is gonna win,
and he's gonna be on the show, and I'm gonna
miss talking to Mike Woodson. Unfortunately, we we for you,
we we did not get a chance to catch up
with coach. Okay, I was a little sad. I was
really anticipating it. I had a lot of questions and

(05:07):
I really was going to throw you under the bus.
You know, this will be better than last time that
you weren't changed by my co host and you had
to almost verbally choke him out. And I knew also
there's gonna be at least two times during the show
where Torres is gonna slander Syracuse, and I knew that
probably happened as well, and so that that's that's more
what I was most up. He's gonna slander Syracuse a

(05:28):
couple of times. Not that it's not more. You know, again,
we didn't we didn't know what the ailment was. So
for all I know, I mean, you were really struggling
to pass a kidney stone. Maybe you know something bad
had happened again. You know, you got sick off of
one of your favorite restaurants, and even though you were
better by showtime, psychologically you were maybe never gonna recover

(05:52):
again because a place so that you frequented and let
you down. We I mean, we just didn't know. So
it's good to hear your voice. Good to have you back. People.
We're asking about true TV or not True TV yesterday. Uh,
and I had to just come on air and say,
I'm sorry, folks, pause to tonight. But if Smith somehow
can't rally on Wednesday, no, no, no, no, no, I know,

(06:14):
I know, and I have I have the I have
such a great True TV or Not TV game to play.
We'll do it in about forty minutes. It's like, these
are all shows that should really they should just take
the ideas and put them on TV. They really just
just take these ideas and put them on I mean,
because that's that's what these are. That good. These they
should replace half the shows they have on right now.
But even if it's not for true TV, I mean,
there's so many channels. Why can't we just start our own.

(06:37):
We know enough people that make some money. Yesterday was
the tenure anniversary of Mia having a chat with Mario
Lopez Fox Sports Radio, and I posted it and he retweets,
you know, put it up on Instagram to his two
million sets survivals. So I mean, there's gotta be subtraction there.
He's a mogul. He could probably find us a couple
of dollars in the Hollywood space to get some of

(06:59):
these shows lit. Let's go and and don't t J.
It's all right. Mike Harmon was saved by the bell.
Uh the Jason Smith Show with my best friend Mike Harmon.

(07:21):
com slash credit. Well, we got big goings on in
the NBA. The Mavericks just beat the nets at the
buzzer Spencer. Dinwitty hits a shot to win. Uh, you know,
look the nets are coming now. It's like the nets decide,
oh now we want to start playing, So let's see
how long it lasts. Right now, now k D is
inspired and Kyrie Irving is inspired now it's all the

(07:41):
mayor should change the COVID rules just for Kyrie Irving
so we could play. Now the Nets are inspired, but
how we gotta stand up for Ben Simmons. Now they're
in their motive. Now we care. And so the Nets
are playing well and without Kyrie Irving clearly again who
couldn't play at home? Looked like they were gonna win,
but man didn't we He hits a big three to
win this game. One thirte That back and forth was

(08:02):
just incredible. Quiet fourth quarter most of the way for
Luca don cheers and then hits a couple of big
rainbows down the stretch. You had that Kevin Durant three
point shot with ten seconds left, and then din Witty
with the walk off, and look, it was nice to
see folks come around to uh the Kyrie Irving nonsense
that I've been banging the drum about since you know, October.

(08:26):
In terms of rules, hey, you could practice, you could
be around, hell, you could sit courtside and buy your
own seat, but you can't play there. I don't get it.
I will never get it. So it was good to
see some of the luminaries finally catch up. Wait what
he can do what It's like, Yeah, where the hell
have you been? A bunch of dopes. But here's another example.
Has the monster night and then your reward you get

(08:48):
a night off, and then we we got a thriller.
I mean, that was a fun game to watch, and
Luca just is is frightening. That last shot he hit
turning to the crowd and he just kept drawing and
join and then Kevin Durant hit the three and it's like, damn,
I gotta go back to work, you know. But that's
the thing is it look big win for the Mavericks.
But here the Nets. Now suddenly they're a story again,

(09:09):
right because they're motivated for the past week and a half.
But this, you know, even though they played well, it's like,
this is gonna be another reason why can you really
buy the net? So many people are gonna jump on
them and go, this is the team. Watch out. They're
gonna have a you know, they're gonna surprise somebody in
the first round because eventually Kyrie may be able to play.
Now Ben Simmons might not be able to play all
the way until the end of the regular season. Um,

(09:30):
but that's why I can't believe that because they play
when they're motivated. They've been motivated for about nine days. Now,
let's see how long it lasts. Right, That's why, because
this is not something. Now we're gonna start playing Now,
they're gonna play great all the way the rest of
season into the playoffs or is this just now? Kde
got mad because of the Ben Simmons hate when they
went to Philadelphia. Now suddenly I'm hot, and Kyrie Eving
is like, now I want to go score sixty because

(09:51):
now I'm mad because here I am and the Nets
got fine because I went into the locker room and
I'm courtside. I bought my own seat because I don't
like the vaccine policy. Now he motivated. Right, It took
the vaccine policy and this turn to get Kyrie Irving
motivated and and and that's why I say I can't
believe in the Nets. I can't because I don't know
that this is going to keep them motivated. And they're
they're playing this well for now, but who knows how

(10:13):
long it's really gonna be. Yeah, I'm looking at the
the end end game here. It really we talked a
little bit about it last night. Was was Ben Simmons
and Steve Nash being asked, you know about the optimism
that he's available before the end of the regular season,
and when you have a coach has to say it,
we're extremely hopeful that he's going to be available. Just

(10:36):
raised the eyebrow, right, because at this point you're at
the alright, what, what's what's going on here? Do we
really have an injury? Right? You just psyching yourself up
to play. And you know, as Aaron and I talked about,
you know, it's you don't belittle whatever whatever mental health
questions are are raised. Certainly you want to be sensitive,

(10:57):
but you've also had several weeks since the trade to
clamate yourself. You had a whole season where you were
away from the team, and yes, guys took their shots
and Joel Embiid had that picture of him with the
dude at the funeral and then posed with him at
the All Star Game, all of those things. It's at
some point you're either ready to play or you're you're

(11:18):
just done. And I would, if I were the nets
just say all right, we'll see you for two uh
and work with what we have. And unfortunately the guy
ree Irving situation continues, he made a choice and it's
gone longer than anybody expected. But they're they're still intriguing
right when and and the old puncher's chance based on

(11:40):
the star power that you do have because Kevin Durant,
he didn't do it tonight, very quiet fourth quarter until
that uh three point shot to take the lead with
that with ten seconds left, but you you always have
a shot of him going off with Seth Curry, uh,
and the the opportunity is going to be there now.

(12:00):
Curry didn't play again tonight, so you know, questions mounting
a little bit there after a couple of d MPs,
but it's still the the Eastern Conference, and a lot
of the teams that are at the top you have
major questions about. Meanwhile, you've got Milwaukee that has finally
decided all right, we've been sitting in the five or
six hole all year. Let's uh, well, let's go. So

(12:22):
all of a sudden, there they are up at the
number two spot. The bulls can't get healthy, can't get right.
They're exciting. Uh and certainly for me, it's the first
time they've been relevant in a while. But you know
that it doesn't look like it's coming together there. Boston's intriguing,
but can they finish out? Can they stay healthy? Watching
them very early here on a Wednesday night against the

(12:43):
Warriors because it is Warriors Night. We've had Grizzlies Night
this week night. Eventually it'll be Grizzlies playing the Warriors
every night. That's what it's going to be. That's gonna
be every game the rest of the way. I gotta
figure there's a couple of those still left on the schedule,
and then the television partners are giddy behind the seats, going, well,

(13:05):
that means there's another day we won't have can we
do them? As a back to back list, be sure
to catch live editions of The Jason Smith Show with
Mike harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven pm Pacific
on Fox Sports Radio and the I Heart Radio app. Hey,
you know, but just real quick before we get to
our final four picture site, because you brought up Draymond

(13:26):
Green and today you know, we saw the official news
Joe Buck and Troy Aikman are gonna call Monday Night
Football for ESPN, and the the total number of that deal,
it's like a hundred and seventy million dollars they're paying out.
I mean, look, the the impact of Joe Buck and
Troy Aikman on ESPN with this hiring is going to
be negligible because yeah, they'll bring they'll bring more awareness

(13:48):
and more of a, hey, we want to invest in
our NFL product and all the things that go along
with putting these big names in the booth. But you
do that and again, hundred sixty five million dollars you're
paying out in salary, so it it is a lot,
and you're not gonna see a bumping ratings. More people
aren't gonna watch because these guys are calling the game.
You had a great rated Monday Night Football when it
was Steve Levy and Brian Greasy in the booth, So

(14:10):
suddenly more people aren't just gonna watch. But you take
everything into consideration and and there's other things that it
could really help, but really that's gonna be negligible. Um,
but forget about those guys for a second because you
brought him up. But the guy to go pay money
for when he's done is Draymond Green. I mean, with
Barkley getting ready to be done, and look, for so long,

(14:31):
Charles Barkley was was the guy he would say something
in the end being and everybody paid attention to it.
That's gonna be Draymond Green. He's gonna be the guy
that networks are gonna say, we have to go get
him after his playing days are over. Just the the
little things he does. As an aside, he had a
he had a back and forth with Joel and be
just talking smack with each other today. That was that

(14:51):
that when you're engrossed in because he goes from just
incredibly great smack talk to inside X and os and
what Embeat is doing and why this happened and this
happened and Beat his laughing. Draymond Green is one of
those guys at what he when he says something, he
cuts through. You never know who that guy is going
to be, right, You never know what athletes gonna turn
into that next guy that everybody listens to. But everything

(15:12):
Draymond Green says, certain things he says I completely disagree
with end it upsets me. Certain things he said. I'm like, boy,
that's a great point. But he is that lightning rod.
He's the guy to go get. He's the guy that
networks need to say, we have to go get Draymond Green.
When he's done playing, he's gonna go right into the
broadcast booth. He would go right into inside the NBA
wherever he winds up, and he would be the guy

(15:33):
making news and Charles Barkley would leave and Draymond Green
would take over, and Draymond would be the new Barkley.
That's the guy to go pay money for, because he's
a guy that's gonna push people to your product. He's
a guy that's gonna make inside the NBA must watch
or whatever else you have for him. He's a guy
that's gonna bring viewers and notoriety. That's the guy to say,
let's save our money to go get him. You know,
I think one of the things you can zag there too,

(15:55):
because we know he can talk basketball. Let's get him
onto the sports. That's the thing. I need a multi
fat acid it so maybe he can announce some of
these competitions on true TV. I don't I don't know,
whatever the case may be. Uh, but certainly a guy
that has already shown he's willing to put his reputation,
his history and he's got no filter, right and and

(16:18):
that's the biggest thing. Jumping from whatever playing surface into
a broadcast role, whether it's the studio or the booth
to to comment on a game is how many guys
does it take years before they're finally removed enough from
the game that the filter starts to start starts to
wane a bit, right? I think that's when one of

(16:38):
the great things watching Joe Buck and Troy Aikman these
last couple of years on Fox, Troy's finally in the
last couple of years kind of let it go right
to where it might have been, you know, respect to
guys he'd worked with, played with, whatever, and then not
that the respect still isn't there, but more honest and
critical assessments or lipping comments. Draymond is already there. It's

(17:02):
already got his podcast. Right. He's part of uh Colin's
network as far as all that goes, So you know,
he's a guy that's built that brand for whenever he's
ready to switch into phase two. Absolutely, Man, there's guys
in the NFL that are interesting. It's just always can
you lure them? Right? Because immediately after his quote retirement,

(17:23):
what did everybody say, what would it cost to get
Brady into a booth? Is he got a guy that's
really gonna go loose cut, loose on guys. But he's
about it for a year. Would you listen to him
for a year? Yeah, I listened to Tom Brady for
a year. Now if I got full snarky Tom Brady
that we know exists, then that signed me up. It's
like everybody came around to realizing what I've been preaching

(17:43):
about Eli Manning forever right, seeing it in snippets of
this guy's really funny, it's really sharp and and he
he adds Now, the Manning cast didn't get big numbers,
but I got a lot of attention, right, So you
gotta try to figure out how to measure the social
media impact and what is that worth? Because it was
obviously enough to get them to sign on for another

(18:04):
couple of years at at an increased rate. Right, So
the same thing here, you're you're trying to find those
next guys without filters with Buck and Aikman Leaven I
mean Greg Olsen, who had gotten his work in right
when injured and during bye weeks he steps into a
major role right away. Will he moved the needle from
a football xs and oast perspective? Certainly you know a

(18:27):
lot of folks, you know gravitated towards him that that
cared to that. But to your point about ratings, yeah,
I don't know how much any of that really moves it.
It's it's a larger sales advertising and seriousness to the
network and to your corporate partners. Right, Hey, we're paying
you a lot of money, and look what we did
to boost the booth. So let's let's elevate those games,

(18:49):
which will translate to ratings. If it's not Jaguars, uh
and Titans on a Monday night. Do you know, I
like see you're buying my Jags type. You can't put
this point? Well, it's no, no, it's it's it's a
reference we've been making on the show that we just
need to continue that energy even though the Jaguars, to
me are one of the big winners and free agency

(19:10):
why because they just said, to hell with it, we
have to spend money to be who we need to
be hot to go do it. We gotta go treent Falkey.
What's funny? He goes, Well, hopefully this is it and
in the future we won't have to spend Be sure
to catch live editions of The Jason Smith Show with
Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven pm Pacific. Hey,

(19:33):
I'm Doug Gottlieb. The podcast is called All Ball. We
usually talk all basketball all the time, but it's more
about the stories about what made these people love their
sport and all the interesting interactions along the way. We
talked to coaches, we talked to players, We tell you stories.
You download it, you listen to it. I think you
like it. Listen to All Ball with Doug Gotlieb on

(19:56):
the I Heart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or ever get
your podcast well right now on True TV, Rutgers No
tre Dame battling it out in the second half and
without further ado, it is time to debut, as the
Scarlet Knights have a four point lead. The two debut

(20:16):
of True TV or Not TV probably our favorite game
we play all year long because it's the one time
a year that we pay attention to True TV. So
as people need to know this for the n s
A Tournament, because we've got games coming up the next
couple of days, I want people to know what this
channel is as they try to find it on their
cable system. So I'm gonna give you the title of

(20:38):
a show and you simply need to tell me if
that is true TV or not TV. A show made
up entirely by me playing tonight myself, Mike Harmon, Alex
tishert David Gascon. Are you guys ready to go? Oh buddy,
it's the best? Okay, here we go? True TV? It's okay.

(21:00):
Mm hmmm. Backyard bar Wars the show that follows people
who build bars in their backyard. Backyard bar Wars True
TV or not TV? Oh, I kind of digging. It's
like the Christmas Light Show on crack or Killed by Alcohol. Okay,

(21:20):
maybe maybe that's the tagline of it. It's Christmas Joe, Okay, okay,
all right, So what are you saying? Yes or no?
I said yes, okay, Jason, I'm gonna say it's no.
Not Okay. That's a no from David. Is really subdued,
like you were trying to be, you know, all smarmy,
and he's a little nervous. I think first time, first
time or not to be the first time long time. Okay,

(21:41):
it's okay, we'll get We'll give him a second. I
would say that if it's not, you are a master
at creating this stuff, because that sounds amazing. I would
watch it. That is a True TV. Is a True
TV show, Take it off, Take it Off. It follows

(22:04):
a tattoo removal specialists who attempts to rid people of
unwanted tattoos on all parts of their body. Take it off,
Take it Off, follows a tattoo removal specialists who attempts
to rid people of unwanted tattoos on all parts of
their body. No regrets. That would have been a better one. Nuts. Okay,
maybe you can call True TV and give me an idea.

(22:25):
I'm gonna say no, but I love it. That's pretty good.
No regrets is pretty good. Yeah, no regrets you mean regrets? Oh,
now I get it. Now, I get it right, So
take it. I'm gonna say it is, take it off,
Take it off. It's not would be a great show
on True TV, but it is not a take it off,

(22:49):
Take it off. That's a pretty good idea, though, right,
that's a pretts pretty reg I mean really, just think
about some of the tattoos you can see, no regrets.
The New and Improved College Bowl. The New and Improved
College Bowl students answer trivia questions which involved drinking quantities
of alcohol from fish bowls Throughout the competition. The new

(23:11):
and improved College Bowl students answer trivia questions, which involved
drinking quantities of alcohol from fish bowls throughout the competition.
TV or not. I don't feel like college kids have
that much depth anymore it comes to drinking. So I'm
gonna say it's not true TV, as in just the
the ability to consume mass quantities like you would need

(23:31):
to maintain a TV show. Yeah, calling them all lightweights,
look at you pretty much disparaging today's youth. I have
no doubt I want this show. The answer is Bubby Brister. Wait,
why does your drunk guy sound like Beano Cook. I'm

(23:53):
gonna say it's yes. Yeah, it's very descriptive. I'm gonna
say yes, and I gotta keep beating Daves. So yes,
the new one proved College Ball would be a show
you guys would watch if it was on. Manu, that's
a winner, right there. Man, Okay, you're step down to one.

(24:17):
Swimming with Sharks and Stuff. And Swimming with Sharks and
Stuff a trivia contest in which contestants answer questions in
the shark cage. But it's not just sharks that could
come their way as they try to find their way
to the right answers, which are placed near the cage
at arms length, swimming with sharks and stuff. There's no
way in hell you're getting through the insurances and legal people.

(24:40):
Do you think that that guy in Jurassic Park was
a pain in the ass tried doing this for real?
Maybe it's not a real cage. Maybe it's Nicolas cage.
Some wou say it's true TV material. What what Lorraine
gonna go see his new movie? Come on, doesn't that
look brilliant? Isn't it that on Netflix? I'll watch it?
There isn't. Yeah. I mean, I feel like I'm mana

(25:02):
it duped if I say yes, because it wasn't there
like a whole thing on Shark Week where it was
like Michael Phelps races a shark and even race a shark.
It was like a virtual sharks and now it's not.
I think he had to race Mike Tyson and then
he had to off a trivia contest in which contestants
answer questions in the shark cage. But it's not just
sharks that could come their way as they try to
find their way to the right answers, which are placed

(25:24):
near the cage at arms, lengthing with sharks and stuff
is not? Boy, how great that would be? Harmy with
his pesky Say the waiver, Say the Waiver. Our final
four picks coming up next. This is gasping for air.

(25:45):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the I Heart
Radio app. A guy who's gonna help us out with
everything in the NBA. Fox Sports One. NBA Insider extraordinaire
hosts the On the Ball podcast. He's on Twitter at
Rick Buker. It is Rick Buker. Rick, what's happening? Man?

(26:07):
How are you? I'm good, but I can't help you
with everything. I cannot possibly help you with with the
Los Angeles Lakers or the New York Nick those are
beyond I'm I'm only a man. I can't. You couldn't.
You couldn't throw that out as a wish on your birthday, Rick,
Happy birthday, buddy, Thank you, thank you, thank you very much,
thank you very wow. It's wait. St Patrick's Day? Is

(26:29):
your birthday or the day before, day before? Yeah, it's
like you know, it's like a Buker weekend. You got
the birthday in St. Patrick's Day every year? Uh you know, Um,
mischief ensues for forty eight straight hours. You a party
starts early. You've found a way to extend your birthday
to make it a two day event. That's pretty good.

(26:51):
Let me know what. Yeah, I didn't have a whole
lot to do with it. It's just the ways, you know,
the ways the fates decided that my birthday should be
ahead of St. Patrick's Day, and so yeah, generally I
have when everybody is just beginning to work on their hangover. Um,
I'm I'm already halfway through my guy, and let me

(27:14):
tell you about the Knicks, Jason Smith, you ask me
love more freaking question about them, I'm hanging up and
never talking to you again. Uh, there's exactly right, exactly
so so so you can't help us with the Lakers
because after the game tonight, Lebron said, I'm comfortable. I'm
comfortable being uncomfortable when you win. You're comfortable when you win,

(27:36):
you're uncomfortable. You can't help us out. I even promised
a half hour ago. Rick Buker could translate Lebron James,
I'm comfortable being uncomfortable statement there, and you can't well,
I can know, I can I can't translate it, but
I can explain, I can explain where it came from. Okay,
See there's see there's a there's a book of script
that postgame scripts that Lebron had, and he turned to

(27:59):
the wrong section. He turns of the section where you're
down to one in a playoff series. And you talk
about I'm comfortable being an uncomfortable situation, because that is
that's truly, that's truly a noble situation to be uncomfortable in.
He just happened to take the wrong script and apply
it to the wrong situation. I have no I have

(28:22):
no I have no doubt that he is he is
uncomfortable right now. But I also guarantee you that he
is not comfortable being uncomfortable in this situation because there's
no redeeming value to it. It's like, um, yeah, you
know what, the situation is bad and it's only gonna
get worse. And there's like you being okay in this

(28:45):
circumstance is not okay because you don't want to be
in this situation. If you're in the playoffs and you're
down to one or like difficult, you know, difficult circumstances
in winning situations, which Lebron is used to. I'm guessing
that he doesn't even have a script for situations that
are this bad, because generally he would have traded half

(29:05):
the team at the trade deadline before getting to this point.
He wasn't allowed to And so now here we are.
So I you know, it's just it's funny with him
or with Kyrie or you name any guy and when
they have to tell you over and over kind of
the same thing. Um, that's always to tell that they're

(29:27):
trying to convince you of something that they know that
isn't true, like uh, because generally you don't have to
tell it's It's like it's almost anything. You probably had
the same experience, like your your friend tells you man, uh,
with your wife or your girlfriend. Man, I really I
really love this me. I really love the way you

(29:49):
made this state. You know what, this is great stake.
I love the state. Like if anybody says something beyond
three times, I get suspicious. I'm like, Okay, what are
you trying to do here? Like there's there's something ya
on the state. It is going on here what is
going on? And I believe that's the case with Lebron
and any number of guys when they when they start
singing the same song, I'm like, why, why are you

(30:11):
trying to convince me of this? I should just see it,
know it. I like that you also gave him credit
for getting past the first page of the book, So
you're the first guy. Yeah, that's that's a fair shot.
I gotta, you know, take take the low hanging fruit uptimes.
I also, I would have loved in the post game
if someone would have held up. There's a sequence going

(30:33):
around of Russell Westbrook against Patrick Beverley, and it's like
a fifty second super coup. Just see Lebron's reaction of act.
You know what, I'll say this about that that if
there's any indication of just how fraid the Lakers are,
it's the fact that no one took up for Russ

(30:54):
Westbrook in that situation. I'm sorry, I don't care how
bad my guy is playing. I got the other guy
called him trash and holding his nose. We're gonna we
gotta beef. We're gonna fight, like I'm gonna I'm gonna
let him know that's not okay, and the fact that
nobody took umbrage with it, uh to me is as

(31:17):
much a reflection on all the Lakers as it is
on whatever it might say about Russ Westbrook, Rick Buke
are our guest here the Jason Smith Show with Mike Carmen.
All Right, So while the Lakers continue to flounder, Lebron
gets closer to Karl Malone is as Look, your teams
still continue to lose at the bottom of the West.
The Lakers are still in a playoff position. Unto I

(31:44):
would not be surprised if they, like if they were,
if there's they're trying to send money to the Portland Trailblazers.
Could you guys just please just move up into the
tenth spot. Put us out of our misery, Like, we
don't want to do this. I fully expected New Orleans
is going to pass them. They're gonna be in the
tent spot. They won't be able to fall out of

(32:04):
the play in So now they gotta play two road games.
We know with the with the nine and twenty two
on the road, like they look like a team that
if they could find a way to get out of
this entirely at this point, they would be more than
happy to do that that. Their problem is that the
Trailblazers are are tanking at a mighty speed, and so
there would have to be some under the table understanding

(32:27):
to make that happen. At this point, but we'll continue. Sorry,
Lebron just scores the bucket to pass. Malone, takes the
basketball and walks off the court, waving to everybody, I'll
see you next year. I'll see you. Just you just
don't see him again. I you know, you you you
you jest, but I would not I would not be
the last at least bit surprised. That's the problem that

(32:48):
actually Lebron faces now because he told us, I'm you know,
I'm not going to quit until we're twelve ft under,
until you chop my head off, until all that stuff.
So technically, as long as long as they're mathematically eligible
to be in the play in, he's got to keep playing.
And I do think, you know, one of the other

(33:09):
things is I do think he's trying to chase that
scoring record. I think that was I think he took
a hit tonight because I don't think he got close
to his average and he might have might have lost
a tenth or two UM. But like he's he's in
a tough spot because he doesn't want to come right
out and say that he's chasing Karl alone or he's

(33:29):
chasing the scoring record. UM. But what I mean, honestly,
what else I wouldn't blame him? What else would what
else is he would he be playing for? UM? But
since he's made it all about I just play, you know,
the right way, and I played a win, he can't.
He can't go down that road. So he's in a
tough spot. So he's very unfortable, but he's comfortable being uncomfortable,

(33:52):
or so he says. Mavericks nets And one of the
games of the evening outside that double overtime thriller in
the first four Luca Dodget's and Kevin Durant making plays,
but no Kyrie once again obviously, and then the Ben
Simmons part of things interesting right, had the epidural for
his back. And then yesterday in in the little shoot

(34:15):
around back and forth, Steve Nash had to answer questions
and said, we're extremely hopeful that we can get him
back for the regular season. Are they legitimately ever going
to see him on the court at this point. Yeah,
I mean it's a fair question. I don't know, back
to a tricky thing. I know that the back issue
is legit um from from the people that I've talked to,
and and the Nets really don't know what is going

(34:38):
on with him because he's not there. He's not working
out there, he's not working on his back at the
facility or with the team. From what I understand, he's
got his own people trying to get that right, and
so he hasn't been around. Um. You know, they're just
getting reports in terms of where he is. And it's
not as if he has anything against the Nets. It's

(34:59):
simply like he has to get that back right at
this point before he can start, before you can start
playing or practice. And you know, your guest is as
good as mine, as good as the nets. The Nets
honestly don't know if and when they are going to
get him at this point. And I'll stand by this

(35:19):
that as good as Kyrie and Kad have looked in
recent days, I just don't think that there they have
any sort of a legitimate shot at getting to the
finals or getting out of the East. Uh. If if
they don't have Ben Simmons, they need him defensively as
much as anything. Otherwise, You've just got Patty Mills, You've

(35:41):
got Kyrie Irving, got Seth Curry. I mean that's that
is just an incredibly small backcourt without a legitimate rim protector,
uh to to you know, keep everybody honest, and that
is Kyrie and k D can't score enough to compensate
for that, you know. And I look at it this
way to Rick, is that the Nets have just been Look,

(36:02):
they've never been able to get it going since they
their first incarnation of the Big Three. When did they
finally start. It's like in the last week and a
half because they had the Ben Simmons revenge game in
Philadelphia and they're upset about the vaccination status in New York.
And Kyrie it's now it's important that he comes to
the game and sits and goes in the locker room
and they get find fifty grand. Now now I feel

(36:24):
like the Nets are motivated, like k D and Kyrie
are motivated when they play. So this is why even
though they look their play, this is why I can't
believe in them, because I know they're just gonna play
like this for a few games and then they're gonna
go back to where they were before, because I just
don't know how much basketball is their priority. I don't
know how much winning is is Kadi and Kyrie's priority anymore.
So I can't buy when they're motivated, they're great, But

(36:46):
then how it doesn't last very long. Yeah, I wouldn't
say that about I wouldn't necessarily say that about Katie.
I think Katie has always got his his eye on
the prize. There's very few times where I thought that
he has, uh he's dialed it back. And I do
believe you're right and that they're motivated. That you know
that James leaving kind of kind of brought them together.

(37:06):
And much as Ben Simmons getting out from under that
cloud helped the seventies sixers to kind of come together
in their way, at least for a little while, I
feel like the same happened with the Nets, and I
think Kyrie and Katie in particular are motivated right now,
uh to to to show James you thought you you
think you have a better chance of winning a championship

(37:28):
with Joel emb than you do with us. Let's you know,
we've we've got something to show you. And so I
do think that's the motivation. I agree with you with Kyrie,
and it's it's it's why. One of the things that I,
you know, I said earlier today, um, I talked about
that I think he's too he's too sensitive to be
an all time great or to fully utilize the talent

(37:51):
that he has, and and sensitive in that he's just
he's aware of everything and his mom. He's involvedvolved in everything,
and he wants to address everything. And it's like the
guys that I know that UM that are truly great,
particularly when it came to scoring in the league, but

(38:13):
in general they're like great white sharks. They just they
kind of hone in on this is what I want
to get done. That's what I want to eat, and
I don't really care about anything else. That is my focus.
And I just have never gotten that from Kyrie. And

(38:34):
the example, you know, I had today was like he
scores sixty and he's like, and you know, people are
saying that that he were saying in Jess. Knowing Kyrie,
I think maybe a little in jest, but he said,
you know, I hope my hope my teammates weren't unhappy
with some of the shots that I took you know, um,
because I you know he pressed, he pressed a little bit. Dude,
Come on, you've been in this game long enough. There's

(38:55):
there's a thing called a heat check. And when you're
going like you're going, nobody faults you for taking a
heat check, like and and who's gonna fault you for
for for scoring sixty? Like it's either he's really trying
to to convince us that he cares so much about
his teammates and what his team they think. When we
didn't get that feeling when he when he ditched Cleveland,

(39:17):
and we can't get that feeling when he ditched Boston,
and we didn't get that feeling when everybody agreed to
play in the bubble, and then he suddenly wanted to
have a revolt and going in a different direction. Like again,
it's in that's a situation where you're you're trying to
convince me is something that all the evidence suggests otherwise,
So why don't you just show me rather than tell me?
But it's also like if all these thoughts are going

(39:39):
through your head, like that's a that's a crowded space
up there. When the ability to perform at the highest
level in the NBA requires an incredible focus and acuity
to get the job done, to not let anything distract
you from the job at hand. And that's where again,

(40:00):
as good as Kyrie is going right now, I am,
I'm with you. I'm my first My first thought is
I wonder how long is he's gonna last? That's my
first thought. And I don't have that with every with
every great player. I kind of dig that. You kind
of went halfway into a Jaws quote. It's really a

(40:21):
miracle of evolution. All the machine does is swim and
eat and make little sharks. Uh. So we get that
in as well. Eastern Conference. All right, so Brooklyn's not winning,
uh for what she said earlier, All of a sudden,
Milwaukee there Boston with another big win tonight. Marcus Smart
was taking out everybody in one fell Swoopy felt, Steph
Curry took down Clay Thompson. But they cruised to a win.

(40:44):
Where where's the victor in the East. You know, when
we we get to final seating, who's taking the crown
into the playoffs? I still think it's Milwaukee, And I
just feel like they've been kind of coasting along. I
think Janice has been coasting along. I mean, he's he
still plays hard, but I don't think he's shown us everything.

(41:06):
He's shown us that he's added a few things to
a game. They're adding Brook Lopez, now they should get
Pat Connaughton back. I just feel like they know, hey,
we just need to get through the regular season now
that now that we know what it takes to climb
the top of the mountain, we don't care whether we
have the best record or not, and we we want

(41:27):
home court early on. But with most of these they're
not afraid to have to go into anybody's arena and
and get a win. I just I just believe they've
been laying in wait, and as good as Miami has been,
I still think they're paper tigers. I just you got
you gotta play Duncan Robinson and you gotta play Tyler Harrow,

(41:47):
and both of those guys are defensive liabilities. And so
I'm just not convinced Boston and some of the other teams.
A lot of this is going to have to do
with just who gets matched up by who, and when
do you face them? And as always, are you healthy?
But it is healthy. I just think it's it's there

(42:09):
for the Milwaukee Bucks to repeat his champions. You can
fomb on Twitter at Rick Buker, that is at Rick Buker,
And when you go to his Twitter page you see
balloons because Twitter knows it's Rick Buker's birthday. Uh, that's scary.
That's kind of scary. All the animation that I did
not order. I'm I'm you know, if a grim reaper

(42:31):
shows up on my Twitter, I am closing it up
media telling you that, Well, it actually says right under
your name, the Vicinity joined May two thousand nine. Today
is his birthday. I mean so much right there. Yeah, yeah,
and I And here's the thing I didn't put that there.
I never told them. Wow, nobody told me. Maybe maybe

(42:52):
Matt Buker is out doing doing good work for you
and wants everybody know what's your birthday? They if they
if they give my like my my DNA, if they're
able to list that to now we know. Now we
got we got we got a real problem. Security number here,
Rick Beuch, your soul security number is one six seven.
It's right the task he appreciate on your birthday. Thank

(43:16):
you very much for stopping I man, we really appreciate.
There's no place I'd rather be um. Pace yourself yourself.
That's a lie. Yoh no, that felt good though, like
it felt good from my soul. Rick, I appreciate keep
the run with it.
