(00:23):
listening to Fox Sports Radio. All the thunder in the world,
whether it's from Australia somewhere else, it's down under, up
top to the side. You're all worthless and weak. That
is some thunder your Chicago Bulls could have used tonight,
Mike Harmon Spiral Spiral down the drain. Losing to the
(00:50):
Knicks tonight, right now, down by five with ten seconds
left to go, a night where Demark de Rosen's got
seventy four points, doesn't matter. You could have taken that thunder.
It could have helped them, helped the Bulls a little bit.
DeRozan In zach Levin combining for sixty four points. It
(01:11):
doesn't matter, but it shows that the Bulls can lose.
The teams other than the top three seeds who they
can't beat. Your Bulls have shown Hey, we don't don't
pigeonhold us is just being a team that can lose
with the best. We can lose. The bad teams too,
were versatile. Name you gotta prepare for us. Yeah, but
here's the kick in the teeth in it all right?
Topping with seventeen off the bench, Barrett with twenty eight.
(01:33):
If you need any Barrett rookie cards, Jason, you let
me know. Kirks with twenty seven. Not Ellis Burke's as
part of that great Colorado lineup. Uh, Robinson's got sixteen.
Your guy Julius random one of nine from the field,
five points, but twelve boards and he's still a plus
eight for the game. That shows you how poorly you
have played. If you are the Chicago Bulls, I almost
(01:55):
want to go and slap wow look at you. Oh
you scared me tight and I didn't think that was
bleep first. Oh my god, that scared me. Oh that
scared me. That's out. Stop stop, I'm gonna have a
(02:17):
heart attack. You're just scaring me. He just that. He's
got to shake it in your boots already. Check all
of the three minutes, baby, Happy Happy Monday. Another big week.
We did our two minutes on one NBA game. I
gotta say, though, I was really excited because you don't
have the schedule Jason on Monday, right, big weekend of
(02:39):
college buckets. Obviously, the oscars still on everybody's brain because
of and nobody remembers who actually won any awards. That's
the other thing that you don't know. By the way,
there goes my I told you when the trailer came
out of King Richard, He's gonna win Best Actor, And
that huge bold prediction I made the came true. I'm
ready to bask in the glow of it. But no,
(02:59):
he's got to go slap Chris Rock. Well, now it
comes a different thing. What's all? Yeah, But but in
the end, you should have bet it when it came out.
I didn't see all the movies that were out there.
All I'm gonna say is this. I watched it with
my daughters and they both looked at me and went,
what's all the hype? Yeah? Exactly? Well that Amy Schumer,
actually that was a pretty good line of Hey, they
(03:20):
made a great movie about the Williams sisters father, so
you know, she had maybe four good lines the whole night.
But but we're not gonna break down the broadcasting full
I had Warriors Grizzlies, two of our teams were playing tonight.
It's a thirty point burial earlier. The fourth an absolute
joke of the game, like, damn it, I gotta go
(03:42):
back to endgame and wait for raw now. And of
course the women's elead eight, Yes exactly. Well, Hey, big
game with Yukon. They win a double overtime game. Look,
it's it's it's a big day. It's been a big
weekend in sports. But the Will Smith slap is going
to live on Look Twitter, and how about a Fresca
Mike had swollen dome. Real credit card questions require real people,
(04:05):
someone who understands your issues and works to resolve them
with you. That's why I Discover offers helpful US based
representatives available twenty four seven. Discover exceptionally common sense. Because
before we get into Will Smith, we have to say
to Will Smith, Happy birthday, Will Smith. Yeah, Smith celebrating
a birthday today. Is not that Will Smith, guys who no, no, no,
(04:27):
It's the other Will Smith, the Dodgers catcher, who, of
course got a lot of trouble this weekend. Going to
the mound in a in a Dodgers uh exhibition game,
slapping Clayton Kershaw when he wouldn't give him the ball.
It was really very, very difficult. Uh and I can't
believe they allowed him to stay in the game. But
that's enough. Uh. So Will Smith Dodgers catcher happy. Okay,
that didn't happen. I want today and he pitched brilliantly
(04:49):
for all you folks looking at fantasy baseball rankings. Uh,
Clayton had himself a nice outing today. It didn't happen.
Didn't happen. But to you know, look two things about
the Will Smith slap that really have a lot to
do with sports and a lot to do us because
when when this happened a couple of times, like, man,
this is really you know what it's all about. You know,
we talk a lot now about what the behavior is
(05:13):
like with fans at games, whether it's a basketball game
or a baseball game or football game. When more fans
are starting, but specifically in the NBA, you see a
lot of fans want to get involved in They're throwing
stuff at the players or their their jawn at them,
and the players can't help. But jaw right back. Look
the big viral sensation with Devin Booker last week calling
a a spectator a name as he dribbled up the floor.
(05:36):
You know, we we we talked Westbrook, Lebron James, keep
going on down the list, you know, all your heavy hitters.
We can go through the top twenty players in the
league and we probably have a video clip in the
last month of what at least half of them. Yeah,
And it's it's not just the players yelling at the fans.
It's the fans wanting to throw stuff at the players
and and what you know, and and seeing that and
(05:57):
seeing Will Smith, uh, you know, go up and Chris
Rock I'm like, he just walked up on national television
in front of fifteen million people. This guy has had
a thirty five year career in Hollywood. He's one of
the biggest stars in the world, and he just slapped
a guy on the air. And he just another star
on the air, right, I mean, he just they just
(06:19):
slapped him on the air. And I'm like, you've got
to be kidding me, because this gets into what is
now considered acceptable behavior, or what people think is considered acceptable. Right,
Fans think because of either the closest of social media
or just this age of I d G A F
and if I want to do something, I can do
it because I don't have to fear for repercussions, right
(06:39):
fans of I can throw popcorn at players, I can
yell stuff at players I want to get into that
I want to and the same thing coming back, you know,
players saying I'm gonna yell back to the fans. I
don't have to worry about any repercussions coming my way
because what has been what has been judges acceptable behavior
has just gone. Damn. That's the one thing we've lost
in the last few years. It's just overall class and
(07:00):
respect for one another. We just don't have that anymore.
That's just a recent no. But I'm so outside of
Chicago and so I'm just couple of years. But just
look at way it's been just look at what when
have we seen the big all these big events at
games at the NBA. We've had dotted events over the
(07:21):
course of you know time, but really it's ramped up
a lot in the last few years because we've we've
blurred that line. Like I said, social media is there
because of the closeness, you you get to someone, uh
getting you know. But overall it's just it's just the
lack of a respect that we see for anything, right,
whether it's in our leadership, whether it's in public everyday
politics is people yelling at each other and I can't
(07:42):
stand you and I can't stand you, and no one
could come to the sun could be out all day
and one side could say, look at that sun. No,
that's not sun, that's son, that's your fault. It should
be sunny here. I mean, no one could get together
on anything, right. It's it's this level of behavior that
is now It's like celebrated insanity is now okay because
people are understanding that, oh, I can do things that
(08:03):
are really outside the boundaries and I don't have to
worry about any repercussions. Right, Like look at Will Smith
last night. He goes up on on stage and slaps
Chris Rock and he gets sits back down and he
curses at him, and he says all of these things,
and what happens He sits there and watches the rest
of the oscars. How does I mean that? That's the
big thing that I take away is they're allowing him
(08:24):
to sit there and watch the Oscars. I know he's
nominated for Best Actor, but he just walked up and
slapped a guy on stage who made a joke. It
was a bad joke by Chris Rock and and but
Will Smith, you've got you gotta be able to have
control of yourself. You can't just walk up and hit
somebody like that, right, And there's not a couple of
things to it. It was a bad joke one just
in and of itself, referencing a movie that underperformed at
(08:46):
the box office and whatever. However, it was about a
badass woman played by Demi Moore, so in the look.
So now it's a question of and and again, this
I guess goes back to I had no idea about
Jada Pinkett Smith's condition. I I know, Look, I I
follow a lot of pop culture. We talked about it
a lot on the show. I didn't know, do we
have to assume a pent Chris Rock knew that that
(09:08):
was an issue that you know, no, no, no no, But
I'm but I'm saying a lot about each other because
they really don't like each other. And it kind of
just came to ahead last night. Well, look, there's a
lot of other things because he also you could see
there was a well that was the nice joke, right,
he could have gone a whole other way. That I
think was the anticipatory thing in that venue and across
(09:33):
television sets nationwide of uh, because after the slap part
of me, not only can Chris Rock take a take
a hit, right, because the ultimate side of disrespecting him
and ain't punching him, it's slapping him. So folks need
to you know, just know that right off the jump, right, Uh,
They're like, why did you punch him with a close fist?
Like no, no, no no, no, the slap in the face
(09:53):
is a bigger deal. And then he turned but Chris
Rock just stood there. So I was like, wow, you know,
immediately it was like is this a work? Like when
he really just sat there like wow, okay, really happened
kind of kind of arms behind his back and whatever else.
But I thought, you know, the potential was there all
of a sudden. All right, now it's the Will Smith
(10:14):
comedy roast coming at you there. Uh. Not to mention,
Will Smith also laughed at the joke. Initially he and
then his wife was like, oh now I got I mean, look,
Will Smith clearly there's some issue when you look you
have issues when you walk up on stage and punch
a guy for telling a bad joke about you and
about your wife, right, I mean, however, you want to
sit here and and and and and break it down
(10:35):
and go okay, was did Chris Rock tell a bad joke?
And did he go over the top of the punchline? Yeah?
Did did? But does that mean Will Smith goes up
and hits him? But Will Smith thought it was clearly
okay in that moment to go up and hit Chris
Rock again, a guy who has had a thirty five
year career, is one of the biggest box office stars
in the world. Thought, this is how I have to
handle this right now. I've been in Hollywood. I know
(10:57):
what it means. I know what my image is all about.
I think it's ok for me to go up and
hit him. And I get that you're you're caught up
in the moment there, But again, thirty five years of Hollywood,
thirty five years of having cameras in your face, and
it hasn't been the last best year for Will and
Jada Pinkett Smith because of all the red table stuff
going on in their open marriage has been out for
everybody to talk about, and like, why would you bring
that up and and have that be part of conversation?
(11:19):
I get it, but the guy still thought it was
okay to go and do that and that, and then
it was you know, because that's the other thing. Well,
that's it. There's no security that gets on the stage.
Not a single person goes and checks on Chris Rock.
Everybody wants to make sure Will Smith's okay. That go
make sure Jada's okay. You want to make sure Jada's okay,
(11:40):
have at it? Going in consoling Will Smith? What like
what are we doing here? And then Rock finishes like
obviously it's a moment of all right, what the hell
do we do next? Uh? Sorry, quest love, congratulations on
the the Oscar. I'm actually watching that movie as we go.
It's brilliant, by the way, it's it's absolutely fantastic state,
(12:00):
but it's just one of one of those like no security,
no intervention. And then after the awards are done and
the dust settle and everybody's drunk off their asses at
at after parties, now it's hey, we put out a
statement that we don't condone violence. You damn right, you
did dude smack guy, sat back down, had another drink,
(12:21):
set there, gave a speech talking about how he's a
vessel of love and then then he gets to go
off and get jiggy with it headed after party. Nobody
does a damn thing about it. Really, that that was
the That was the most shocking part to me, and
I know that the the official statement from the Academy was, well,
everybody that we needed to talk to was station at
(12:42):
different parts of the auditorium and we couldn't all get
together before he went up there to accept best best. Really,
you couldn't get people. Really, you couldn't walk a break
in between. I'm sorry, you have you have to come
with me. You can't be here man. You you couldn't
separate him from Bradley Cooper for that thirty seconds to
talk about him stunning. I mean, you know, Jay Leno,
I heard him on he was with Tim Conway Junior
(13:04):
at kf I here in l a As. I was
in the car a little while ago, and he had
the best line of the night though in terms of
you know, the functions of the Austria's. The hardest job
of the night last night was the guy that had
to try to get Will Smith to wrap up his speech.
I'm not going over there. You see what happened. Don't
play don't play them, don't play music to watch out.
(13:27):
And it's not making light of you know, Jada Pinkett
Smith's condition, right, because that's what I've heard all day,
is like if you're standing up or taking a neutral
of all right, you know the old Chris Rock line, right,
but I understand comes into play here, but it's still
the really, this is how you handled this at the end,
make sure she's okay, and I hope she is, and
(13:48):
I hope you know, there's there's reconciliation. You know, Chris
Rock put out his apology and everything else, but it's
still the everybody thought that was okay for him to
just walk up there and smack a guy, and yeah,
they're a reaper for what you say. Put doing that
right in the moment on live TV when the video
clearly shows you laughing at the joke, thinking it was funny,
or at least doing that Hollywood thing of ah, he
(14:11):
made a joke at us. You got plenty of time
to address that or in your speech do a big
thing about you know, an awareness you know the thing
about the condition and severity and what it means and
whatever else, like you had plenty of venues. Really, I
really it's it's it's it just shows you where where
(14:32):
what we think is behavior is acceptable and that it's
acceptable because I can get away with it and not
have to worry about things happening to me. What's gonna happen?
You really gonna put me in jail? You're gonna do
that to me? Now, it's not We just keep pushing
the boundaries on this in the last years. We're just
gonna push the boundaries on all kinds of things. And
let's let's keep pushing because what's really gonna happen? What's
really gonna happen? I don't I don't think anything is
(14:52):
really gonna happen. Oh yeah, we're threatening you with with
X or Y or Z. Are you really gonna do it?
I mean the fact Will Smith goes and slaps Chris Rocket,
I'm just gonna sit back down at my table. What
I get You don't want to be the guy to
go over and say, well, you know you need to
you need to come with me here. But but you
need somebody to go and say, hey, Okay, why don't
you come with me over here. I get it stunning,
(15:13):
and I get that it's a but the guy, I mean,
he hit he hit somebody on natural television. But they said, hey,
he's gonna win an award. Back down and deal with
it later. By the way, look at what our ratings
are doing now. Everybody's tuning in. Yeah, because by time
he gave a speech. You see the spike in that
quarter hour once it went viral, there were eight people
(15:33):
watching the oscars, and after that happened, it got up
to fifteen million. It went off. I gotta get up there,
uh Twitter and out out of Fresca. Mike gets swollen?
Do I mean it? You see it all over in
arenas and sports and that's that's an example of it
last night. To be sure to catch live editions of
The Jason Smith Show with Mike harmon weekdays at ten
pm Eastern, seven pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and
(15:55):
the I Heart Radio app. Don't like his Joke's gonna
slap him now my no Comedy Central roach Dad coming up.
I mean, I'll tell you, man, I mean, I've seen
lots of crazy things in Hollywood, you know, living here
in l A for the last twenty five years. I
don't know that I'll ever see something like that. It's
(16:16):
the most memorable moment in Oscar's history now. And there
were so many other things during that show. Father reunion
doesn't matter, Wesley Snipes, Tony Hawk photos. Gotta pay attention
on the wed that stuff. I mean, there were a
million things. Sam Jackson getting his Oscar doesn't matter, and
he cursed less than Will Smith. Dad doesn't matter. It
(16:39):
makes no dube. Will Smith, whatever he does in his
life and career, right, Like I said, Will Smith again,
one of the biggest box office stars in movie history. Again,
thirty five year career rapper, a television actor, uh, movie actor,
leading man. Not many people can be a leading man
for thirty some odd years like him. His whole career,
(17:01):
everything he's ever done, everything ever will do, is defined
by that. That's what it is. The guy because he's
slay slapped Chris Rock on stage during the Oscars. Say
you don't get path, you don't walk back back. He
apologized today, you don't walking back certain things later, you know,
after probably a conference call, Here's what I'm gonna say. Okay, Chris,
what are you gonna say because the statements came out
(17:23):
within about ten minutes of each other. Yeah, I mean,
I know he's never good. That's that's his career. Now.
That's the first line of his Wikipedia page. Will Smith,
Hollywood actor who most famously slapped Chris Rock during the
two thousand and twenty two Oscars after a joke was
made at the expense of his wife. That's it. That's
his life. That's his professional life from now on is
(17:44):
known for that. He could win three more Oscars for
Best Actor. And know, by the way, if you remember
one thing from this bleeping show tonight, you remember I
told you when the trailers of that movie came out,
Will Smith was gonna win. That's getting lost in all
of this drama. Will Smith stole my moment for me
on this show when I say it was eight months ago,
I told you he was going to win Best Actor
and he won't. No nobody care because he slapped Chris
(18:05):
Rock and we're going, Uh, that's frustrating. But I mean,
that's what his life is going to be, absolutely dominant.
That's it. You don't get away from that. Twenty five
years from now, you don't get away from that. Ye
that's what it's gonna be. He did have regret. The
run could still be longer, not often of the same
night you win Best Actor. You know, by the way,
(18:28):
this this is something you we now have to deal with.

(18:48):
couple of big NFL stories today and and you know
involving the quarterbacks that these are the only guys were
waiting on now. Right, It's like we're looking at our watch, going, okay,
all right, need something with Baker, needs something with Jimmy
g all right, we need something. We need some then
I'll get you good news. One of them is coming soon.
One of them. We got to wait a while, okay,
because Kevin Stefanski said today Brown's head coach. They want
the Baker Mayfield situation resolved soon. Right, We like this
(19:11):
revolved soon because they have their quarterback room, right, they
got Seohn Watson, they got Kobe percent. They're good to go.
They want it resolved soon. Um, here's the thing. You
can resolve it very quickly. You're gonna have to release him.
You have to release him. You have to bite the bullet.
There's no market for him at eighteen million dollars this year.
Nobody will somebody take it? We we told you, will
someone take a chance, and will there be a big
(19:33):
market when he's free and can sign anywhere and you
can sign him to a one year, six million dollar
deal that with incentives could get him to twelve million.
There's interested. They'll be interest there like crazy. The Steelers
will get involved, the Panthers will probably get involved again.
I'm sure the Seahawks will get involved. I'm telling you
Tampa Bay is the right place. But I mean, that's
(19:53):
what's gonna happen. Oh, we want it resolved soon. If
somebody wanted Baker Mayfield and was okay with it, they
would have come with a offer by now. They would
have because you saw quarterbacks change places every the Bucky
Brooks line from last week on the show, What does
the NFL think of the quarterbacks in the draft? They
told you when right after the combine happened. A quarterback
got traded every day, right, I mean, okay, it doesn't
(20:15):
mean that guys won't end up getting drafted early, because
that's just the nature of the beach, right, that's just
the nature of the draft of all. Right, here we are,
we're not gonna get caught without one if we think
we might need one in a year or two. But
it doesn't mean that the evaluation is these guys are
franchise guys. It's just that reeks of desperation. What is interesting, though, Jason,
(20:36):
with the suspension looming right and only a million in
terms of cap hit for this year, the million, thirty
five thousand or whatever it is for the Shawn Watson,
my dollar cost averaging thing does come into play with
the Baker Mayfield, although you can't keep him at this
point because that would be awesome though, that would be
gonna stay for six games. You're gonna stay for the
(20:56):
first six games, okay, Baker, then we'll let you go. Okay,
You're gonna stall first six games, and then then we're
gonna just dump you. So that's what's gonna happen. Uh So, again,
I think the league told you what they thought about
Baker Mayfield, the fact that he's still on the roster,
and look, he's gonna have to be released and then
there will be a market for him. Let's see what
Jason lock and for thanks joining us now on the
hotline CBS Sports, NFL Inside, or you can fill on
(21:17):
Twitter at Jason lock and fa uh he has eight
hundred words coming your way about Orioles prospect, DL Hall
and the hundred and twenty five hour fastball that he
is throwing. What's up? Jay? It's not but I've seen
him in double A at Booie Gun. But I've seen
him at one oh three multiple times from the left side.
(21:40):
So don't don't don't play with DL Hall. That's my boy,
all right, So let's let's start. We just talked about
Baker Mayfield a little bit here that the Browns want
their situation resolve soon. Is there any way this doesn't
end with them cutting him and then he winds up
going to a new team. Um No, I think at
this point we need Jimmy has them and you you're
(22:03):
already projected to be forty million dollars over the cap,
and I shouldn't get projected. You your current cash expenditures
right now are forty million above the calf tight million.
I think eating five million of Baker Mayfield contract to
facilitate your ability to get a draft pick is by
no means out of the question. I mean, right now,
Baker's counting nineteen roughly and cash against their payroll. If
(22:26):
you eat five and you know, trade him for something,
I think that's better than cutting in. There's a long
time before we play any football. Um, the Browns are
under the cap stuff, like they have to get that
money cleared right now. They're still pursuing Clowney, They're still
pursuing um Jervis Landry and other slot receivers. So um,
(22:51):
I think they're all in and I think they'll eventually
get something from Baker Mayfield. Got a lot of your
owners meetings this week, and I gotta I gotta think
Jimmy Garoppolo's name comes up a lot around the hallways.
I mean, how long is and we're playing the waiting
game with him? Or do we just go play on
hips instead? I think right now people are talking a
(23:11):
whole lot more about the Shawn Lawson and that record
setting contract than they are anything else. I mean, Garoppolo
can't throw until you know, July seventh, and that's just
the beginning of a throwing program that's going to require
um and all like months you know, to build up
full strength. So that's another one where I don't think
(23:31):
the forty Niners feel like they're particularly handcuffed by the
contract right now. It's not a guaranteed deal. It's million,
you know, for one year, which is not crazy money
for a starter by any means um or stretch of
the imagination. And I think his health will be the
guiding light. And while he's getting healthier in theory, someone
(23:55):
somewhere or a few someone's somewhere real like you get hurt.
That's the story of the NFL, right, It's a churned business.
It's a it's an attrition business. And there's going to
be a quarterback who falls in his backyard and has
a boo boo. There's going to be somebody who unfortunately
suffers and achilles or an h L during o t
(24:17):
A s like it's it's it happens. Somebody's gonna get
hurt the first week of the preseason. It happens. So,
you know, I think the fully Niners um It's not
a perfect scenario. They would have loved to have moved
this contract for value, but he you know, he had
a shoulder repair on his throwing shoulders, so that's obviously
(24:39):
a huge mitigating circumstance. But I still feeling bigger Michel
makes a lot of sense there. And I don't know
if the timing will work out. I don't know if
the stars will align, but they need some insurance for
Trey Lance. I know that much. Jason locking Forward his
live from the Owner's meeting h this week in the NFL.
What's it been like so far? It's like every are
(25:00):
you talking about? Overtime? Is no one talking like what's
it been like so far? UM? I think you know,
this has been a weird meeting in that there's not
a whole lot of rules changes in terms of on
field rules that people are kind of churning over or
or you know, going back and forth about. I mean,
we have you know, it's not like we're trying to
(25:20):
reinvent uh onside chicks or eliminate them, or eliminate the kickoff,
or you know, change the way video replaying works, or
change what's reviewable and what's not, or change pass interferings, right,
there's none of that going on. There's a few tweets
to overtime. The Tennessee Titans proposal about the two point
conversion to end over time after one possession, I don't
(25:43):
think has much of a hope or a prayer the path.
And then there's the idea um that the Eagles have
put forth about each team should be able to touch
the ball in overtime. There's some chatter about that. There's
a lot of chatter about that, most of its in
the coaching and GM class. And as you guys know,
they don't get the vote. It's an ownership only vote.
And so which way does that go? I don't know
(26:05):
my hunches. They go with status quo over time as
as it currently exists. But outside of that there, you know,
there aren't a ton of prussing matters. I mean, look
at how many uh Superstar blockbuster trades have already been consummated.
So yes, I think there's some chatter about quarterbacks and
who might be available in the aftermath of Deshaun Watson
(26:26):
resenting the quarterback stratosphere in terms of compensation, but I
don't think anything is imminent. But they're they're teams talking
about that. We know that the Carolinas of the world,
the Atlanta's of the world, the Seattles of the world. Um,
there's a number of teams that are still unsettled at
quarterback and might have their island doing something big. And again,
I'm not sure that Lamar Jackson, I'm not sure that
(26:48):
Kyler Murray. Um, you know, the Justin Herbert a year
from now, Joe Burrow a year from now. I'm not
sure all those guys are signing NEGA extensions with their
current teams because I don't know how many owners out
there and want to give you two fifty million dollars
full we guarantee contracts, and all that future money has
to be put in an extro account. Any future guarantees
(27:09):
beyond this year, you've got to stroke a check. You're
not liquid for that money, and it sits, you know,
in a in a vault somewhere so you can make
good on those future payments. The way that the NFL
handles some of those things, it's minutia, it's inside football,
but it matters, and Jimmy haswell next February one is
gonna have to cut a check for I don't know
(27:30):
about a hundred and eighty four million dollars and you know,
just to guarantee everything on the remainder of the Shawn
Watson's deal. I'm not sure that the Arizona Cardinals, the
Baltimore Ravens um, the Cincinnati Bengals, the l A Chargers,
I'm not sure those owners want to do that feel
like that's good business. Um wanna go forward with that precedent.
(27:53):
So we're in a brave new horizon in terms of
NFL player compensation, and that, more than anything else, is
dominating the conversations here. So compensation Ford Shaun instead of
the press conference and where the Browns are in this
process more than anything. Jason, Yeah, I mean, look, the
morality of what they did. Let's let's be real. There
(28:15):
were you know, at least a half dozen other teams
who in terms of giving up assets for that for
that player, despite him still facing twenty two credible uh
and and persistent allegations of sexual misconduct or sexual assault
in a civil proceeding. It wasn't about the morality of it.
(28:37):
It was about, Okay, you gave up all that for him,
and you gave him a one million dollar base salary,
and you gave him nonforfeiture clauses in his contract where
previous transgressions that lead to UH suspensions won't, you know,
won't cause him to default on a signing bonus. And
you gave million dollars signing bonus, and you took up
(28:57):
with thirty five million dollars a year to forty six
million dollars a year, and you guarantee the whole thing
at two thirty million. And he's never signed an autograph
for you, he's never done a public appearance in a
mall for you. He's never met a sponsor and shaking
a hand for you, let alone play a football game
or throw a pass. And you did all that in
this climate near hours after he was sitting before a
(29:20):
grand jury facing a possible criminal indictment. Like this has
never happened before. I hope it never happens again, because
there's so much that is unseemly and and and frankly
revolting about this whole thing. But it has created a
new norm in the NFL that the owners will try
to buck and fight, but the agents and the players
(29:43):
are going to now rally behind and say, if I'm
a player, of any stature in this league. I want
a fully guaranteed contract. I wanted to be you know,
five years or less. I want to know trade clause.
And if you won't do it for me, I'll get
myself to somebody who will. You can fall on Twitter

you better, you better up coming at you. Well, the
Bulls should be apologizing for their effort tonight against the Knicks.
But here's the thing, uh, late breaking developments in this
game that clearly have pointed the fact that the Knicks
need to move on from Julius Randall and trade him
if they can in the off season. Tonight, he didn't
(31:54):
play a lot of minutes. Obi Toppin played a lot.
Randall was not playing well, a little bit of foul trouble.
He sat for the vast majority of third quarter into
the fourth quarter, and he sat on the bench towel
over his head, sulking. He comes back in the game
in the last three and a half minutes, doesn't shoot
the ball and kind of just walks around the court,
(32:14):
kind of like Russell Westbrook went, I don't get to
bring the ball. I'm just gonna stand around. And he
did a lot of standing around and and didn't really
do a lot, looked very disinterested. And when the final
buzzer sounded, Randall got the rebound and just walked off
the court, throw the ball in the air behind him,
no handshakes, nothing, just walked into the locker room. He's done. Okay,
I look, it was awful. The Knicks gave him this
(32:35):
money and he turned out to not be the guy
they thought. Yes, I know, and it's starting right, So
I I don't know how. It's tough, but maybe you
can get a team to take on some of that
next year because of what he showed the year before.
Because when he's happy and he's motivated, Look, Julius Randall
was a good player. He's a good player last year
(32:56):
for the Knicks. Knicks hang a banner for Julius Randall.
Hey motivated. He want to paid, of course, and now
now look at now he's upset. He's fighting with the fans,
he's fighting with his team. He's he's just not been
someone who has even looked like he's interested in playing
the past few weeks with the Knicks, he's done. This
is not gonna get any better. He's not gonna send
(33:16):
me come back and say Okay, I got it now. No,
he's wanted to sulk and and and and he hasn't
played well, and he can't deal with the pressure of
being the number one guy on a team, because that's
the Knicks paid him to be. We paid you to
be our number one guy. And now he is melting
under all of it. And it's one thing to disappear,
it's another thing to disappear and and to to be
a divisive influence. And that's kind of what he's doing.
(33:38):
And so I don't know how you go forward with him.
I think they have to do everything they can to
try to just grab one of those stupid ass Oh
here's some expiring contracts, and we'll take this and take this.
It's gonna be an awful deal. That're not gonna get
a lot for him. But at this point you just
have to move on. He is he is someone who
is completely disinterested and it's not going to suddenly change
all right now. I got it. Now. This has been
(34:00):
going on for a while now. So Julius Randall, if
your team wants Julius Randall, call the nixt call. I'm
sure the Lakers will be on the phone right now.
We have Russell Westbrook, I'm sure. But if you want him,
I'm sure he's available. Call the Knicks right now. Averaging
twenty four points a game in the month of March,
Remember he had that forty six night point night against Sacramento,
(34:20):
a thirties six point night and a loss against Memphis,
and then another twenty six against Brooklyn. He's had some
big games just uh well, the ws for the team
haven't come. But certainly for for where he's at, still
affected by whatever got into him at the end of
that playoff run. That that is just the curiosity of it, right,
(34:41):
the sports psychology of it all is what happened in
that moment into the off season to where it's been
such a grind for him this year. Just again, you know,
you go to New York, it's like being in l
a right. The spotlights are bright here at least, there's
a lot of other things to contend with. Still a
big deal, haven't one since Phil Jackson was throwing bows
(35:05):
in the seventies. But there's still a big deal in
the big stage. So go trade him to UH New
Orleans and pick up a bunch of the contract. No,
that's what I mean. They have to They just have
to move on. He's eat such a sent back to
New Orleans. He's such a drain on on the organization.
I mean, they won the game tonight, but I'm mad
(35:26):
because I didn't want bad. I'm walking off the court.
This is this is just who he is. It's a
Knicks fault because they thought they were paying one guy
and they got another guy but boards and he was
still on the plus side of the plus minus. Succeed
and proceed, move on. Hey, you want to give us
at Lavine, you can have him. I'll see you in Hell.
No more, NBA more and Will Smith next. This is
