(00:23):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio. Hello, Welcome inside final
hour tonight of The Jason Smith Show with my best
friend Mike Harmon. Today almost all the baseball in the
books were just waiting for the Astros to finish their
pounding of the Angels. Make it stop. Got eight in
(00:45):
the seventh they leave the exact wealth to three. Uh
so again not not a great night for the Angels.
Can't even get it a trash support for your fantasy
team from Otani or Trout At this point, No no,
I said, you know what everybody was like, Oh yeah,
you know the Angels watched it could be a surprise
playoff to Angels, gonna Angel Man. Angels and Angels and
(01:06):
the Raiders are the same thing. Oh this year maybe,
and then uh we just do well enough to disappoint you.
That's kind of what it is. Now, are you excited
about tomorrow? Steve brought it up before earlier in the
show that's can go three and oh very excited about tomorrow?
Oh no, you mean something else? Um? Noah, Synder Guard
and Justin Verlander. Yeah, I'll be. I was looking at
(01:27):
my calendar. I was like, maybe, yeah, maybe I'll be
rooting for Verlander. You know, you want to go watching
Jeers thor I'll buy you a beverage and maybe a
hot dog. Oh well, no, I just go to a MP.
I wait for the Dodgers to steal a base and
go to a MP. What if they don't steal? Are
you gonna go without food? You know that might be
the diet only eat when you eat a hot dog
(01:49):
when the Dodgers steal a base exactly. Oh boy, that's
I mean, it's not quite supersized, but you know they
have a harm. They don't steal a lot. Man. I
think they have like six D five stolen bases all
a year leg But that's what I mean. And then
you build yourself a website for it, and you're chronicling
it's called did the Dodgers steal a base in it
(02:12):
dog today? No, did I get a hot dog tonight?
And it's a literal video of like when you see
in baseball when they move a man from first to
second base in the video games. The second there's a
little hard tune Smith running towards the ampo. That would
be it. But that that would be incredible, diet. I
mean really, if I did interview Dave Roberts, the first
(02:33):
question I would ask, miss dude, come on, man, you
gotta play more small ball. I mean, come on, there's
free hot dogs for people at a MPM. This is you.
You're known for your playing curve, you know, stealing bases
and big moments. Why why, why why why doesn't your
team do this? How do you feel about hot dogs? Dave?
I mean I want to know, really, I mean if
you're anti hot dog, I mean, are you against the fans? Yeah?
(02:58):
I mean I mean I get taco know given out tacos,
holding teams under points? Yeah, but this is next level, man,
this is baseball hot dogs a MPM, Dodg, just the
ol the base get a hot dog? Now? Did you
see the other thing that was introduced this week? What
else can I eat? If someone does something. There is
now a cracker Jill. There's a cracker Jill. Okay, so
(03:20):
you can as the vendors and and at the concession
stands you can have your traditional cracker Jack, but now
there is a cracker Jill. I don't know that there's
going to be an addendum to the song. And maybe
folks will, you know, make the changes themselves. But there
you go, deciding that they needed to be inclusive. Buy
(03:42):
me sump nuts and cracker jack and Jill. That's gots
tough that that. Yeah, the extra words and um, you know,
syllables create a little bit of a problem. But you know,
marketing and trying to make sure you you keep your
percentage of the snack game. You gotta make sure you're
knack game is strong. That they decided that branding and
(04:04):
with new packaging as cracker Jill would be something to
add for this baseball season. So is the commercial it's
a cercial the two of them eating cracker jackson then
walking up to the top of the hill with a
bucket of water. Is that thing could be? I do
like that you went to the cracker Jack's. Yeah, just
make it nicely done, you know, just say hey Jack
(04:24):
when you get to the top of that hill, man,
take it easy. Why, I know what happens to you. Man,
Just just be careful when you get to the top
of that hill. What oh, yeah, it happens. No what what?
Eating by a witch's Jack and chilling up waiting your
iconic jacket. Jill went up the hill to fetch a
(04:45):
bucket of water. Jack fell down and broke his crown,
and Jill came tumbling and swoop him up and ate him. No, no, no,
that's Hansel and Gretel and in the witch put him
in an oven, right right, Yeah, well like, but I
mean with Jack and Jill. Jill picked up the crowd
and said, game on, I am the champion. Now. I
don't know what happened quite like that, But I don't know.
(05:07):
It's in my fictional world. We're gonna amend things. Tisher
thinks that Jack and Jill rhyme is the same thing
as Ansel and Gretel. That's okay. I got no problem
with that. In his mind. He's now renamed them. That's okay.
I thought it was like the multiverse. I could just
do whatever. They're just in a different place. Yeah, I
(05:31):
like that. Speaking of multiverse. Man, you know what is
getting unbelievable reviews? I can't wait to see is everything
all the time it's getting weird believable reviews. I mean,
it's so it's the mind bending multiverse thriller. Everybody I
know it. It's oh my god, this is so good.
It's getting I I can't wait to see it. I'm
(05:51):
I'm really excited, cause I was only somewhat excited about Morbo.
It's it's like, I kind of have to go see
it because you know, at some point I got to
see all the Marvel movies, even if they're made by Sony.
But now this one, I'm actually I'm excited to go see. Now,
I'm like, I want to go see this one. Wait,
it's saying that it was released on MARCHA Levitt that
wasn't in wide release, wasn't no, not wide release. Now okay,
(06:12):
it's just getting to wide release. Okay, because I know
I've seen the trailers and the ads and I was intrigued.
But it's like anything, you're trying to figure out what's
going on. Right. I watched episode two a moon night,
and granted we're having some conversation, so we weren't like
dialed in. But at one point I looked at Maddie
go I don't think I caught where the thing jumped
on me. I think I have to go back and
(06:34):
watch it again. I'm wondering if this movie won't do
the same thing to me. Oh, I don't think viewings.
I don't think Moon Night's in the movie. I think
you're you know what I mean like that, it's the
same kind of thing, just based on the premise of this. Yeah, well,
we're just jumping around the multiverse and different iterations of
(06:55):
and and versions of characters Jamie Lee Curtis, Michelle yo
et cetera. Uh, and our guy from Short Round Yeah, yeah, yeah,
and yeah he's he's in the movie. He's Michelle Yoe's
husband in it. I gotta think they go to one
there's one alternate world they go to where Jamie Lee
Curtis is pursued by Michael Myers. I have to think
one of the world. I think again, alright, fine, I
(07:19):
gotta take care of this guy again. Just get out
of the way, please, miss you. Just gotta I I
know again, this guy, I know, I know, I know,
I know. It's been and we have to give credit
to James Hong. I'm so tired. I'm so tired this guy,
this guy in the mass of be coming after me.
All I was was a bleeping babysitner. I had no
real connection to his family. It was just the babysitner.
And he can't leave me alone. Well, I mean he
(07:41):
would if you'd stopped accepting their money to do another script. Yeah,
I think I think they'd move into a different version
than a different part of the multiverse with someone else
he terrorized for the last forty That's the rule you're
known for. You like, I'm never we're doing this again.
Then years go by and go, hey, you want to
(08:02):
do it again? You're gonna pay me? Yes? Alright, great, Yes,
I'm very excited. You know what, I need more land
next to this property that I built off the last one.
But yeah, James Hong is in this one as well.
Huh six hundred and fifty plus film and television credits.
Three years old. So keep going, brother, and for all
(08:22):
you out there, keep moving. Yeah. And and Joel's girlfriend
from Marvelous Mrs Maisel is in it. She's oh yeah, great,
come in. And and Mike Chang is in it? Wow?
Really Glee, Harry J I didn't know all the all right,
now I have to go see it because he's, um,
what what the hell is he in? He's in Shadow Hunters? Well,
(08:46):
so that's something we've watched a little bit, all right.
I don't know. He's one of my daughter's favorites. He
was one of the favorites in Glee, well because you
had it for a couple of years. He wasn't singing
at all. He just danced and he didn't get a
lot of speaking lines like he just kind of nod
and smiling off he went. And they had referenced Mike
(09:07):
Chang and the anti singing guy on a singing shows.
That's a great angle to have you the guy that
doesn't sing on the singing show. Well, but you lead
all the dances. Jason's Fit Show with Mike Carvion Love
from the Fox Sports Radio Studios. Hope you are enjoying
your Friday night. Um, you know, look outside of baseball,
gonna go to Vegas coming up in a few minutes.
(09:28):
A big night in sports, big weekend to look forward to. Uh.
Today was day two of the Masters and for Tiger Woods,
not quite what Day one was Look, Scottie Shuffler leads
the Masters by five shots heading into the weekend. And look,
last night we said, well, what to expect from Tiger Woods. Right,
the first day I thought would be okay, because of
all the adrenaline, the excitement. He's playing one round of golf.
(09:51):
Now he's got to go play again and again and again.
And when you haven't played in seventeen months, it's difficult.
Your stamina is not there. He wasn't hitting the ball
as long yesterday, so today not quite as good as
it was yesterday. But still he makes the cut. He's
tied for nineteenth and okay. And if it wasn't for
Scheffler with his big dynamic day, Tiger would be four
(10:11):
shots off the lead. But this is what happens. Guys
are dynamic at Augustus. What I told you, It's why
I didn't think Tiger could compete this time, because guys
are just too dynamic. The scores get a little too
low for Tiger Woods to be able to do it
this year. And when it comes to Tiger now we
default to Tigers playing Kenny Win. Right. That that's the
that's the number one discussion we have when Tiger Woods
(10:33):
is an event, now Tiger was playing in the match's
how many people put money down on Tiger Woods to win?
Oscar Delahoa, I'm gonna have bet five undergrand on Tiger
Woods to win. I should have taken that money. I'd
be five thousand dollars richer. Yeah, I'll cover your bet.
Don't worry about it. Look at me. I'm gonna win.
But I don't think that everybody understands the best way
to analyze and and find the new normal for rooting
(10:55):
for Tiger Woods because it's been fourteen years the guys
won one major. Just think about that, right from two
thousand and eight to now, the guys won one major.
He's done winning majors, right, the best you can hope
for him, and and and when when you're rooting for
Tiger Woods, and obviously he is still golf. He is
still the one that everybody comes to see. Is you
(11:16):
can expect for him to play well enough to be
around for the weekend and maybe he can contend once
in a while. That's kind of the realistic way to
look at Tiger Woods. Not that, oh, get ready because
we're still on the hangover. Oh if Tiger Woods gets
it going, He's gonna get hot again again. It's been
fourteen years he has won one major. Okay, it's not
(11:37):
suddenly just going to happen for him. The big thing
with all the issues that he's had physically getting back
to the game, the lack of playing time he's had. Yeah,
if he plays well enough that he sticks around for
the weekend, maybe he can stay close. That's how you
should look at Tiger Woods instead of look what I'm saying,
can you win? Canny win, can win? Yeah, anybody has
the chance to win if they're entered, But really, does
(11:58):
he have the game to win? Oh? He doesn't. And
and he's had the game to win one major again
fourteen years one major. That's a lot of mismayer. It's
modermus opportunities for a guy who's not getting younger and
he's not getting healthier. And that's a big thing. So
if you find that new normal for Tiger, that's all right.
I'm happy that he's playing. He's still such a great drawer,
is still so much fun to watch him. If he's
(12:20):
if he if he makes the cut, great, if he's close,
if he's close on the final day, great, that's kind
of what I can expect. But this whole, hey, Tiger
Woods is in can he win? No, those days are gone,
and you're just gonna just find yourself prone to disappointment
in Tiger and watching him play. If that's you think
he's going to do. Just be happy that he's playing
and if he's play enough to be around, and that's great.
(12:42):
If he's close, that's even a bigger bonus. But that's
the new normal for him. Yeah, I mean, you look
at what Scheffler did today, chasing that unrealistic and even Tiger,
you know, a little dejected and his post round comments,
but still at all sitting at a a plus one
through two rounds. I mean, aren't you playing with house
money like some thought. By the end of yesterday's round
(13:05):
it was already a Okay, I did it. I'm back
to this point and he's gonna be sore and we'll
see what the weekend holds. But to your point, yeah,
I mean, you look at the shot he made on
six in round one, right, the near hole in one.
It electrified everybody. Celebrate those big pieces. Celebrate that you
still get to watch him, right, so much of the
(13:27):
last couple of years has been things we couldn't do,
things we couldn't experience, people, we couldn't see people, We
lost everything else. Tiger Woods made it back from a
crazy car crash and a crazy injury, and even before that. UM,
I would be remissed. You said fourteen years Happy sixty two,
Izzy Stradling, Great Guns and Roses song. Uh, but you
(13:50):
said you know one major since two thousand eight. I
mean that's as many championships as Doc Rivers has and
Doc Rivers conversation the other day. All I had to
do it to fight the podcast sports radiots fired wherever
you get your audio. I told you embraced the building, baby,
(14:12):
so wasn't Yeah, so it is not fair. That was
so good, though, oh Man. Be sure to catch live
editions of The Jason Smith Show with Mike Harman weekdays
at ten pm Eastern, seven pm Pacific on Fox Sports
Radio and the I Heart Radio app Fox Sports Radio.
It is The Jason Smith Show with my best friend
(14:35):
Mike harm You get to at least eight nine inches
in joining us now the Hotline to give us the
perspective of everything we've seen so far in Major League Baseball.
The NBA Playoffs coming up, longtime Vegas insider, creator at
the Board podcast, former odds maker, at Caesar's CBS analyst.
He's on Twitter at Todd Ferman. It is Todd Ferman. Ta,
(14:57):
what's up? Man? There's no true smell to the fact
that Francisco Lindor and the rest of the match will
be on the undercars out here sinking tom a weekend
in Las Vegas. My good man, Hey, if they keep
throwing shots at the Mets players heads, they're gonna come
out and beat him up. You do you just watch?
He'll take the Mets in that. I respect that two
games into the season the mattive art and saw more
(15:18):
fight than they had the last two years combined. Maybe
this is the kind of thing that leads them to
an elusive and at least championship. You know, we're you know,
you know, we're only fourteen to one to win the
World Series. You know, we have a pretty good team,
right and we have the best record in baseball by
the way, you know we have a pretty good team, right.
I do understand that too. And oh and you know
(15:38):
what the reality of this is, you win your first
two games, you have a distinct path to going a
hundred sixty two and oh and breaking all sorts of
Major League Baseball record. But I'm gonna go under that
particular win total. And if there's one thing I encountered,
as it pertains the New York matches are always able
to disappoint their royal fans. Look at that after two games. Uh,
(15:59):
the voice of reality Todd firm and here on Fox
Sports Radio with us Jason Switshell with Mike Harmens. So, Todd,
I mean, I got I gotta go to the lead
story of the week of how many more additions to
casinos are going to be built based on the money
that poured in on Tiger Woods. Well, I mean they're
gonna be able to take my money and potentially build
a new wing because I was a dumbass that decided
(16:21):
to bet Tiger Woods to miss the cut, not realizing
that Augustin National was essentially like playing in his backyard. Now,
I think what you're referencing, horm is talking about the
amount of folks that bet Tiger Woods the Witness Tournament,
and there'll be a lot of books that will be
able to sleep easier at night. And the Tiger finds
itself eight to nine strokes off the pace going to
the final round on Sunday. But when you look at
(16:41):
the field, it's been a great story. There's no doubt
that people are gonna watch and root for Tiger, and
it's that he's a part of the weekend. But given
what Scotty Shuffler did today, I think Tiger is really
gonna have to catch a lightning in a bottle and
get the rest of the field to come back to
him if he's going to find a way to win
that six green jacket. See no, I wish I had
I said to guys like Oscar day La Joya, Hey, yeah,
(17:02):
I'll cover your five dred thousand dollar bet on Tiger
winning the Masters. I'll cover all your bets. Don't worry
about it because he's not gonna He can't win. This
tourney hasn't played in seventeen months. Very oh, I get
good odds on Tiger Woods, I'd be a millionaire. Todd
I could buy the mets if I have been able
to take the bets from guys like that all weekend.
You know that's a fact. But the bigger challenges if
honestly be able to lay up and to win the bet.
(17:22):
Smith I don't know if you have million dollars sitting
under your mattress to be able to pay him out.
But right here on live radio, I'm gonna call Oscar
de Laya's block. In my opinion, there is zero chance
he actually about half a million dollars on Tiger to
win the Masters. What did I tell you Smith? Did
I not say that the other day? Show me a
ticket in your hand? Was exactly what I said the
(17:44):
other day. There's no question about that. How much fun
do you have going back on trolls on Twitter? Because
I find you religiously, as you know at bet the
Board Bought and at Todd Ferman. It's always entertaining. But
the reality of it is, apparently I'm a bad guy
when I tell people that they're not going to be
able to subsidize their four oh one case and pay
(18:05):
for third and fourth beach houses along the way betting
fifteen ke parlays. I'm somehow the bad guy these days
in sports gambling Twitter, because operators will lead you to
believe all it takes gentleman is putting up two dollars
and if you bet the first basket score in sixteen
NBA games on any given day on Sunday, you your
wife and kids will not only have a new car,
you'll have a new boat, and you'll have sixteen houses
(18:27):
that you'll be able to take advantage of. The bottom line, guys,
is when you look at the legalized sports betting rolled
out there, people want to promise you the sun, the moon,
and the stars. But this isn't a business that caters
the folks that want to swing for the fences. If
you want to swing like Joey Gallow, you're gonna strike
out two thirteen times. There's a lot more money to
be made if you treat your every at bat like
Tony Quinn. Todd Ferman our guest right now the Jason
(18:50):
Smith Show with my best friend Mike Harmon. All right,
so from baseball, let's get to the NBA. Now, I
mean clearly, you know you'll give me any odds on
the Lakers making the playoffs. Who are your big who
are your playoff long shots that you like going in here,
whether it's in the playing round or not. Who what
you know what teams outside of the favors you're saying, Hey,
you know what, this may be a team that can
(19:10):
make a run here. Who do you like, you know,
I think I gave you those Honestly, the Lakers to
make a playoffs about three months ago, and you told me, no,
I was just being negative. They were going to get
it all together. There's a good chance they're going to
get it all together, and they have a great opportunity
to win a Summer League championship out here in Las
Vegas during late July. But when you're looking for me
at the NBA landscape right now, honestly, guys, I mean
(19:31):
for as much parodies we're going to see, and I
think it's gonna be phenomenal in the Brooklyn that's finishing
that seven or eight spots that we're watching them match
up against the Miami heating the Milwaukee Bucks in the
first round. It will create a level of intrigue that
we rarely see in the NBA postseason. But when you
dig into some of the numbers, it's hard to make
a case against the Phoenix Suns in the Western Conference
because I'm not sure Memphis is ready to win just now.
(19:53):
And we'll see if the Golden State Warriors can get healthy.
But I feel like the three horse race there and
as far as the East is concerned, if there's a
team that's disappointed me this year, it's the Philadelphia seventies sixers.
You can blame Doc Rivers, we can blame James Harden,
but I think that's a team poise for an early
round flame out. And I think we're talking about a
collision course for Milwaukee, finding a way to get to
(20:13):
the Eastern Conference Finals and maybe taking out a team
like the Miami Heat that's not sexy, that doesn't put
butts in the seats the same way, but the way
Eric Spolster coaches, and with the bulldog mentality we've seen
from Jimmy Butler, it's hard to rule out in Miami
as a number one seed, they're gonna get disrespected. But
at the team, I think that has a great opportunity
to get to the Eastern Conference Finals and things break
(20:34):
the right lay for as you as you look at
this and prognosticating Philadelphia, you know you mentioned Doc Rivers. Uh.
Can I get odds on what the next coaching hire
is going to be for the Lakers? Oh, I'll make
Doc Rivers about a three dollar favorite. Honestly, when you
look at the way things have gone here, I think
the Lakers bigger question is who do they want to
use as a building block. I mean, what does Lebron
(20:57):
James have less than the tank as far as being
a guy that can lo are some of those free
agents there. I mean, the three of us talked about
it last year that we thought Buddy Healed would have
been a much better fit to round out the Lakers
roster than adding a guy like We're also Westbrook that
was ball dominant in a team with Anthony Davis and Lebron,
and I really believe you can parlay that to Anthony
Davis being sent somewhere else. I don't think at this
(21:18):
point the Lakers are relevant. If Lebron James and Anthony
Davis are, you're one too. It makes them old, it
makes them fragile. And when you look at the landscape
in the Western Conference, the Phoenix Suns are as young
as any team out there. Memphis isn't going away, and
they're arguably the most exciting watch on a night in,
night out basis. And if Golden State can get healthy,
which is a big if, I feel like it's a
(21:39):
three horse race there. And let's not rule out the
Dallas Mavericks, the Denver Nuggets, who are going to get healthier.
The Lakers really become an afterthought, especially in the Rowan
City off kawhile Lard comes back, Todd Ferm and our
guest here the Jason Smith Show with Mike Carmen live
from the Fox Sports Radio studios. All Right, So, when
you're breaking things down in the NBA playoffs, when it's
(22:02):
all said and done and we're looking at what two
teams in the final, let's last time we'll get to
talk for the playoffs begin. We're looking at what two
teams in the finals? Honestly, guys, as trending as it
may sound, and I think it'll be a narrative did
you get better from now? Until we know that by
who the combatants are. I think we're poised to see
a rematch of last year's NBA finals. It'll be the
(22:23):
Milwaukee Bucks who have raised their level of play, and
we're seeing nice perform at an m v P level
coming out of the Eastern Conference because they're more balanced
than they've been in the past. And I really think
Phoenix finds a way to get through the Western Conference.
The challenge for the Suns is they're not going to
have as many fortuitous bounces as they did last year
dealing with the leaguered bang duck teams. But in my opinion,
(22:44):
the only team when they're at a hundred percent that
can really push the Phoenix Suns would be the Golden
State Warriors. And to be honest, guys, if we've got
a best of seven series in the Western Conference Phoenix
and Golden State, Uh, that would be one that I
think would be worth its weight in gold And I
don't say this often about the NBA. It would really
be must be TV and we should hope it goes
six to seven games. Hey Todd final n B A
(23:06):
odds for M v P. We've got Yokich and Embad
and bead saying, uh, if they don't pick me, they
hate me. Uh. Is there anything to the narrative of hey,
Yokich won it last year? Or do people uh just
push through and say, well his two and three weren't there?
Or is there a dark horse that we're not considering. Yeah,
there's something to the narrative that, Uh, the letters don't
(23:28):
want to give it to Nicola Yokich for seconds three year,
but there's nothing he's done on the court that doesn't
suggest he should win this thing in an absolute landslide,
and for people that wanted to fall through, one of
the seventy sixers have a better record. Um, the seventy
sixers our one game better than the Denver Nuggets right now.
And if you take Joel Embiid off the seventy six ers,
sure they obviously give something back to the field. But
(23:49):
I'm pretty sure most people know that James Harden is
his running mate in Philadelphia. You could ask people on
the street in Denver, Colorado, who the second best player
is in the Denver Nuggets and they'd have apps no clue.
What Nicola Yokich is doing right now is simply unprecedented,
and I really believe when you look at a lot
of the advanced metrics and the numbers he's been able
to achieve, this shouldn't even be a race. I mean,
(24:12):
he should be a unanimous pick for m v P
regardless of the fact that he won the same award
last year. Uh would John Morant when if he was healthy,
if he had stayed healthy all the way through. I
don't think John will win it now. And whether it's
fair or file, I think people look at John's age
and know that he's only going to get better. Uh,
there's no doubt that Memphis has themselves a bona fide superstar.
(24:34):
And I'm sure there's plenty of Pelicans fans out there
are going, man be nice to have John Moran instead
of Zion Williamson. Right now. John will win at m
v P or two. And this is a Memphis team
that is going to be a force in the Western
Conference going forward, given how youthful their roster is. If
you're in Jackson, Dylan Brooks and what we've seen from
Desmond Bane. But I do not believe that Jah had
a legitimate case to be made because when you look
(24:56):
at Memphis's record and all of the games that Jaws missed,
this team hasn't missed beat whatsoever. There is dynamic of
force with him on the court as they are without.
You can follow on Twitter at Todd Ferman That is
at Todd Ferman r Man in Vegas. Todd is always buddy,
appreciate your time, to appreciate all your kind words about
the Mets. We'll talk to you next week. Always a pleasure.
(25:18):
And Smith is the Mets. You're still on the seat
at next time next week. At this time, we have
a real story in My Good Moon. From your lips, Buddy,
from your lips, Areka, thank you always great stuff with
Todd for it. But you know, of all the different
uh NBA finals that could possibly be out there, that's
(25:39):
the first time I've heard somebody you know what, we're
headed for a rematch, right, because I think you look
at the West. You know, Okay, Phoenix clearly is the FAMI.
Look how well they're playing. But boy, Memphis is good
and they're gonna get John Morant back. You don't know
the Warriors when they get to be full strength. But
you know, okay, Phoenix, but the Bucks are just one
of a few teams in the East, and you know
it makes sense. It's it's at And he said that,
(26:00):
I said, yeah, if I was looking at at a
pick in an NBA finals, right, it would be hard
to not pick the champs and the runners up from
last year. That's a hard thing to go against right now. No,
I would agree, it's especially the way you've seen. I mean,
the Bucks cruised for a long time and then I
was like, all right, now it's time to get seating.
(26:21):
Let's go right, and so snap the fingers hell. They
even did it after not after the All Star break,
but trying trying to be a smart Alec about it,
just saying it was a short term, but it really
was after the first of the year. Both day in
the Celtics, you know, started pushing. I I think the
the East will give us some some great storylines the West.
(26:42):
It's alright. I think, as Todd said, Jason, you've got
two or three teams that you really make the arguments
for and something crazy would have to happen, uh to
go outside of those seats. Be sure to catch live

(27:27):
to the fifth hour with Ben Mallow on the I
Heart Radio app, Apple Podcast or wherever you get your podcast,
Fox Sports Radio, the Jason Smith Show with my best
friend Mike Harmon. So a bit of a different take
on Will Smith. Right, what it's got to do with
the Major League Baseball brawl? Okay, just follow me on
(27:48):
this for a second. I mean, now, obviously we saw
today he gets the ten year ban from the OSCARS
for slapping Chris Rock. And you know, first, let me
just say, you know, I knew this is gonna happen, right,
Everybody on social media is writing about how, oh Will
Smith gets banned from the OSCARS for ten years, but
horrible atrocity X is allowed to happen in sports and
(28:10):
politics and somewhere it's like, of course, right, and and
all these guys that were in the room for many,
many years with allegations and sometimes convictions on the board.
Uh and and yes I get it, Yes many bad
things have happened that that is correct, but none of
them had anything to do with Will Smith. Okay, this
(28:31):
ten year, this ten year ban, he gets to compete
for Oscars, he gets to win. He just can't go
to the ceremony. That's it. He's not going to prison.
He's not going to jail. This is what he gets.
I honestly, it's a it's a sentence that probably wouldn't
even happen had the Academy done their job. And that
(28:51):
was after he hits Chris Rock. You take him away
from the broadcast, Okay, it was. It's serious enough that
right after it's over, the police show up and say, hey,
do you want to press charges against Will Smith? And
Chris Rock says no, So they let him do it,
and they let him stay and watch the broadcast and
go on to give a speech for an Oscar after Wow, man,
that's such a big epic fail. I can't even tell
you on how many levels. So now you know they
(29:13):
felt what we really got to do something because we
blew at this time around. So part of me, a
tiny bit of me maybe like a little bit of
my kidney, felt a little bad for Will Smith, but
not so incredibly but because look, he's a guy that
decided I'm gonna go on stage and slap Chris Rock
at the Oscars. But a different thing on this, And
I was talking about this with my wife the other
day and This gets to be why we have so
(29:33):
many brawls in Major League Baseball, right, think about what
it is for a baseball brawl. A guy gets hit,
he charges them mount right, that's usually when you see
it happen. Why because if a guy gets hit, he's
mad and the picture is fifty feet away from him.
After that happens, and it's you know what, there's nothing
to stop me. I can go kick this guy's ass.
(29:53):
So you get the idea in your head that you
can go fight. Then the bench is empty everything else.
This doesn't happen when you're in left field, you're yelling
at a g at second base, or it happens mainly
when you get hit. And part of it is yes,
because you just saw something happen to you that you
want to react to. But a big part is the
fact that there's nobody stopping you. Right, Nobody is between
the two of you and you are, like I said,
(30:15):
you're about fifty five feet away. After something like that happens,
the pictures at the bottom of the mound, you're at
the front of the batter's box. There's no one there
to stop you. You don't think this is a bad idea,
Look at the Oscars right and and and and where
it was. This is not your normal Oscars. This is
at the Dolby Theater where I gotta say, I hate
(30:36):
the look of it because it looks like everybody's just
sitting around cocktail tables watching comedians and maybe they just
had dinner. I mean, it's a really it's an happy
birthday to the comedy Store. But it wasn't old. Look
at that um and and it's it's it's really it's
a it's a cheap look. I don't like it. It's
they're all sitting around like they were having drinks, were
(30:56):
watching a comedy show, and it doesn't look like the
gentry that the Oscar should have normally. And for many
years it was how do we do it? Well? It's
in a big auditorium, Dorothy Chandler Pavilion in Los Angeles
at l A Live What that's where they had it,
and it was and it looked big because you have
an auditorium that fits, you know, hundreds, if not thousands
of people, and the stage is big and the people
(31:18):
on stage, it's a grand spectacle. Chris Rock makes that
joke about Will Smith, and Will Smith decides you know what,
there's nobody between me and him. I just gotta get
up from this table and walk a few feet and
I can hit him. Right. He gets into his head
that he can do this. Now. Part of it is
he was cooking on the on on the on what
Chris Rock said and everything going on with him and
(31:40):
his wife's relationship. But uh, the fact that he could
get up to Chris Rock so fast that that's why
he did it. Because there's no way if we were
at a more traditional Oscars site where it was the
big auditorium and he's either in the first or second
row because all the nominees sit in the first and
second row, there's no way he's getting up walking all
across getting to the stage, walking up onto the stage
(32:02):
and hitting Chris Rock. You're not because the event is
so big. You feel the enormity of the event, and
there's no way you think, no, I'm so mad I'm
getting up to go hit him, you know, because it's
too long of a way to go to get up there.
There's so many things, you know, you feel that people
are watching, you feel the largest of the event. This
was more. Hey, I'm just kind of sitting around and yeah,
(32:22):
I feel loose because I'm just watching you say something funny. Now,
I don't like I'm going up to hit you. I'm
forgetting for a second that I'm at the Oscars and
that that that you know, million people are watching. Right.
It's why you get great stuff on the radio during
interviews from athletes, more so than you get on TV.
Because athletes get on the radio, they're on their phone
and they're having fun and they're just having a conversation
(32:44):
with with us on the air and they wind up
saying something maybe they shouldn't, But because they let their
guard down, they do it. It happens less and less
on TV. He's right, I'm on TV. I'm worried about
what I'm going to say. I'm I'm thinking about the
moment I know people are watching. Um, all those things
go into it. If if that was a different setting,
Will Smith doesn't go up there and hit Chris Rock
doesn't happen. Yeah, I think as as we're talking it out,
(33:07):
and you know, obviously our crew, you know, with with
their thoughts and conversation points, and certainly something as we
we look at this on the whole right, California late
to change a lot of policies. So maybe you went
to the spacing and all you know in the post COVID,
you know, tie shirt and the gang. You know, we're
(33:28):
all talking about it. So maybe maybe that that has
a little bit to play. But to your point, yeah,
if you if you do, like he would have still
been up near the front based on the category that
he was nominated for. But still maybe maybe there's something
about the largesse of a space that would change change
your thinking. The other I mean where we're at also
(33:50):
is with the ceremony. You've got a lot more people
just saying to hell with it. I'll get dressed up
to go to parties, but I don't need to sit
there for four hours, right, because it's not the goal
and globes where you're getting drunk for four hours. Not
that you can't get a cocktail or two, and you
don't get me wrong, but but a much different environment there.
Um and you know you always have hockey too. You
(34:11):
let guys fight until one of them hits the ice
and then you know, everybody scoops in over there. Still
incredulous that nobody had the intestinal fortitude to get in there,
and uh, you know, after the slap, do anything but
quote console Will Smith is the ten years right, I
don't know, I don't care. I gotta think to some
level he doesn't care because he can still zoom in
(34:34):
his uh announcing a category for will spend this coming
in keep my wife out what the other part was.
And that wasn't very likely if you were going to
try to figure out percentage chance that he would actually
slap somebody again. So to some degree it seems wholly unnecessary.
(34:56):
But obviously you want to send a message, and they did.
It's winter and how about Afresca Mike gets swollen Dome.
