(00:23):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio. Hello and welcome inside
our three of The Jason Smith Show with my best
friend Mike harmonbo Well, not long after we said hey,
Max Freed has a perfect game, Dave Roberts is saying,
wait a minute, he's got a perfect game into the
seventh inning. Why is he coming back out to pitch.
(00:45):
We gotta take him out of the game now, they can.
You can't let a guy go. You gotta take him
out of the game. What are they doing in Atlanta?
The Dodgers have a hit, So now no more perfect
game for Max Freed, who is still in the game.
Game about Hans Alberto with a double. Dodgers have a
runner at second base with nobody out in the sixth inning.
(01:07):
Uh so the perfect game is now gone for Max Freed.
Your guy, Travis Darnel with a home run and now one. Yeah,
Travis Darner, who couldn't stay healthy for like eight years
except when he gets away from the Mets, now the
healthiest guy in the world. Yeah, yeah, there you go. Hey,
you know, the announced crowd in Oakland was three thousand
seven mm hmm. I just thought i'd inject that because
(01:32):
you've got the Dodgers and Braves where you're talking fifty
thousand people on a Tuesday night, and then up the
coast here three thousand, seven hundred forty eight. I've seen
a couple of reports saying it's the smallest non COVID crowd,
uh for the A since Oh wow, Well, listen, it's difficult.
(01:54):
You know, Billy Bean wants one lineup, aren't hal wants another?
And it gets difficult. You know, people don't want to
go see Haddieberg at first base. They want to see
painting at first So that's what happens. Sometimes I'm not
gonna go to the games. And as much as you
and I would be clamoring to see Mullins and Mountcastle
come in, that might not draw your average fan. Getting
(02:16):
ready for the Las Vegas A's getting ready ve even
though they're sitting there at six and five right in
the middle of those West standings early on and as always,
they'll win ninety games, but nobody will care. If you're
a valued customer, you deserve a simple jet your appreciation
(02:37):
from your credit card company. That's why I discover matches
all the cash back you've earned at the end of
your first year. Discover exceptionally common sense. Learn more at
discovered dot com. Slash match limitations they do apply well
right now. Phoenix down three to the Pelicans nine and
a half minutes to go in the fourth quarter. A
bit of a tough slog for the Sun's but uh,
(02:58):
New Orleans had a great taken away Chris Paul who
is not having a good night shooting the basketball. So uh,
here are the Phoenix Suns, my sons, who I told
you was gonna win the NBA title without too much difficulty.
Trailing New Orleans right now, but again, still a ton
of time left in this one. Hey, Brandon Ingram is
gonna go down swinging. Be I every opportunity on this
(03:19):
t n T broadcast, as you know you and I
have you know, quick break in the action. I turned
up the volume. They're doing everything they can to sell
you on what a professional and what a young leader
Brandon Ingram has been for this team. And you know,
know Zion Williamson. They make the deal and bring in McCollum.
(03:40):
So some veteran leadership, but I'll tell you what, Brandon
Ingram has been the glue guy for this squad after
that one in twelve, start, Brandon, what's your what's your motivation?
I'm playing and the Lakers aren't. That's my motivation right now?
That's that would be a great response. Well, because then
you could you could legitimately give the Kyrie Irvy double
(04:03):
bird and no one would ever blame you. Now that
is true. That is true. You could go with the
double bird and that that's true. And fifty grand that's
all I have to pay. That's just it. I mean, look,
the price of poker has been established handy up seven
and eight on the night for Ingram. Now, speaking of
the price of poker, this gets us to what is
(04:24):
going to end up being the next great off season
storyline in the NFL. Right, we talked about this last night.
A J. Brown of the Titans very upset his contract situation.
One of the best young wide receivers in the league.
Remove Tennessee from his social media profile, put out a
tweet saying, oh, I'm the bad guy. You do what
(04:45):
you do and I'll do what I do. Right, So
we know A. J. Brown is upset, right. He's also
not going to offseason activities. Terry McLaurin of the Washington
Commanders also not going to off season activities. He wants
more money. DK Metcalf wants a race. So far the
the Seahawks have said no, no, we're I don't want
to trade y DK batcasts available. And now you have
(05:05):
Deebo Samuel who is not going to forty Niners offseason
training right now, voluntary training, and now, according to reports,
he is extremely upset with San Francisco and wants out
all right this next seven to eight days, getting into
(05:27):
the time before the NFL Draft. I'll give you this
Bowl prediction, Mike Harmon. You are going to see at
least three big time wide receivers between now in the
beginning of the draft. So you think three of those
four guys. Because of the way the draft is constructed
this year, with so many teams having multiple first rounders,
(05:47):
the blank those picks movement really gains traction in this
next seven days. Becaues it add Kyler Murray to it.
Oh see, Kyler Murray's all he's separate, he's by himself.
We'll get to Kyler Murray to all this. I'm just
trying to wrap everybody in one big group hug. Yeah,
it's like you would do in a rookie premiere where
everybody dance their trading card photos taken like these guys
(06:09):
all did in cam here, all of you. Big hug,
big hug, big hug. Uh. The big thing about Deebo
Samuel is that it's not as much the Niners as
it is him. Adam Schefter went on ESPN a little
bit a little while ago and said that, look, it's
not San Francisco not wanting to do the deal, it's
Deebo Samuel. He's put a halt to everything for now.
(06:32):
He wants out, and he wants to get someplace else,
and maybe he sees the future going, Am I really
gonna be great? U? Am I gonna catch passes under
Trey Lance next year? Am I really gonna be that great? Or? Is? Or?
Am I gonna suffer? And then when I hit free agency?
I'm not gonna get twenty million dollars a year because
I need to strike now, because who knows that this
team is gonna look like with Trey Lance This this
(06:53):
is about Deebo Samuel saying, can I afford to stay
in San Francisco one more year? Not knowing how things
are gonna look if Jimmy Garoppolo is gonna be the starter,
Diebo Samuel say, listen, anybody can pay me, But do
I want to stay here or do I want to
go someplace else? And all of these guys are available, right,
they all want two things. Wide receivers want two things.
(07:16):
They want to catch passes and they want to get paid. Right.
Winning is is secondary. They all want to catch passes.
They all want to get paid. Right. A ten catch,
hundred and twenty yard day and a thirty one loss
is a is a big victory for wide receivers. That's
what they want, and they don't care who gives it
to them. And they see guys like Christian kirk out
(07:36):
now getting four years and seventy two million tremendously overpaid
by the Jaguars, and yeah, the Jaguars need to expand
the price of poker. Because no one wants to go there,
so you always have to overpay when you're not a
destination Jets. I get this, but it doesn't matter because
the wide receivers say, Hey, that guy's getting paid and
he's telling his agent, you have to get me paid,
(07:56):
and someone will pay me because I'm good. I'm not good,
I'm great. Someone will pay me. I guarantee you. That's
conversations Deebo Samuel's having with his agent saying, Terry McLaurin,
same thing with A J. Brown. Someone is going to
pay me because I'm great. And when you have teams
that can't pay the wide receivers because either they're starting over,
they don't want to invest twenty million dollars in one guy,
(08:18):
they can't fit him into the salary cap. Hey, we
can trade them because this draft and all the drafts
now our talent rich and wide receivers. So potentially we
could replace him and not have to worry about paying
the guy all that money, right because we could get
the next gra mar Chase, he he could show up.
We could guys in the second and third round get
could wind up being good. Five guys a year come
into the NFL Draft in the first two rounds and
(08:39):
are really good wide receivers. So you're gonna have the
teams that want these star receivers that are young and
looking for their second content, their first big contract after
their rookie one. And you have teams saying, all right,
we need to move on and we need to gather
draft picks. It's going to happen. There's too much supply
and demand equal amounts of supply and demand for this
not to happen. Three of those guys are gonna at DELT.
(09:00):
Teams are gonna call and make an FM picks offer.
Someone's gonna say it first and a second for Deebo
Samuel and the Niners are gonna say yes, Jets make
that offer. Someone's gonna say and Debo is gonna go
same thing for a j. Brown. Maybe not a first
and a second, but a first and a third. You
give me back. Something like that could happen, But all
of those guys, three of them are gonna wind up
getting traded because teams can't afford to hold on. Now
(09:22):
we're getting to the time before the draft where everybody's
got their draft boards set, they know what their strategy
is going in and and they can take a breath
and and survey the landscape and fold their arms and
they go, maybe it's okay if we trade this guy
we didn't think about trading before. Well, if we get
those two draft picks, yeah, we can target this guy
and this guy and this guy. Telling you three of
(09:44):
these guys get traded by the time the first pick
of the draft happens, I would say this the the
guy I would most like to see the negotiations and
what's being offered versus what his team wants. Is demos Amuel, right,
because he's the outlier of this squad in terms of
how he was used. Right, top flight wide receiver for
(10:05):
a good chunk of the year, and big plays all
through the year, but certainly heavy early on. And then
he carried the ball a ton, So you got to
a hundred thirty six touches I think, you know off
the you know math, if I'm remembering correctly, almost eighteen
hundred total yards of offense, fourteen total touchdowns. So he's
(10:27):
coming at it, you know, much like Gizicky and some
of the tight ends going, Look, you don't line me
up as a normal tight end. I'm not staying in
and blocking I'm doing all this other stuff. I'm a
wide receiver, damn it. So pay me commensurate as opposed
to what the UM franchise tag is for a tight end,
which is what nine million dollars less than the wide
(10:48):
receiver role. Same thing with with Deebo Samuel looking around
going all right, well the money's up here over here.
And then I'm a running back sometimes, so where do
I fit in all this? And I've got also think
about my health long term and how how long I'm
able to do this? So the arguments really get UM
have have so many other avenues than a J. Brown.
(11:11):
Then DK Metcalf and McLaren, like McLaren's just saying, please
get a functional quarterback around me so we have some
semblance consistency. He got a lot more help from Gibson
in the backfield than you could have expected, because in
week four we were hearing about the shin injury that
was gonna shut him down. Instead the two of them
ended up being ah pretty tremendous tag team despite not
(11:34):
having any semblance of consistent play at the quarterback position.
As the season wore on, and so with a J.
Brown Titans, you know, and he's he's a guy that
would be in that next year. And then DK Metcalf
is big, a physical uh force that he is to
impose his will. We we know what his game is, right,
(11:56):
So he's kind of last for me in terms of
the these guys. And it's not to say that I
wouldn't want to pay him pay money if I if
I was at that point in the contracts. But for Seattle,
what's the point of paying a guy twenty some five
million dollars with what you currently have on that roster. No,
it would, there's no. Yeah, that's why he's at the show.
(12:17):
So he's the guy that's the low hanging fruit for
your jets. I think in terms of drafts, draft capital
and trades, you want Deebo Samuel, you're giving everything else
up and you might have to trade Robert Salo with him.
I'm not saying you might have to go back to
the Bay Area. It's not unless you tell me I
got to get Adam Gates back. That's not a deal breaker. No,
(12:38):
that's a fair point. I was not or co tight
back on your roster or in your in your meeting rooms.
But but remember is that larger point to it? All Right?
And the thing is is that what offensive system did
he fit well in? The San Francisco says, what offense
did the Jets run? They run the San Francisco system.
All right, I'll be it with with not as many do,
(12:58):
but they still they still run the same type of
See that would be a little bit less of a
transition for him. It's kind of it's a look, it's
it's the same type of terminology. It's a say, it's
it's the same layout. Uh. They want certain players who
are skilled in a certain way. So yeah, you look,
any good receiver is gonna be able to mix in
on a good team. But you know what he does
(13:19):
with a with a unique skill set. Yeah, I mean
he's the guy of all the guys. I mean, debos
the number one guy you go get, then you go
get metcalf Then you go get a J. Brown, and
then you get Terry McLaurin. Right that that that's I
think the other the other two are more versatile and
what they do across the entire route tree and and
McLaurin over him too. Wo Okay, alright, Wow, you're just
(13:43):
a DK Metcalfe hater. Well, it's a ranking of four
someone's got to be fourth. He's gonna block you on
Twitter and he can and he can come and tell
me what he eats or what he drinks every day.
I don't care. I mean, he's got a better body
than me. Great. I'm telling you the reason WIDE receive
like I it's it's not just I'm not disparaging the
(14:06):
player that's a great player, right, someone someone has to
be last on the list in terms of what I
can do and move him around in an offense, right
unless there's something that Seattle just didn't do for a
couple of years, which very well may be the case
with the way this this offense is operated for Pete
Carroll the last couple of years. But but the the
(14:28):
point is that you've got three guys that should be gettable,
not just a question of assets. Do it? Because they're
all making one about three million dollars each this year.
They haven't made real money. So can they legitimately hold out? Right?
If you wanted to play hardball with him, or do
you trust that you're gonna find the the next big
(14:50):
receiver to come into your system and perform right away?
And I don't know, depending on where you're feeling, how short,
the leash is on your tenure as a coach or GM,
you may be reticent to do so and would rather
shuffle money around and go hat in hand to some
of your veterans. Again. Be sure to catch live editions
of The Jason Smith Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at
(15:12):
ten pm Eastern, seven pm Pacific, Fox Sports Radio The
Jason Smith Show with My best friend Mike Harmon. I'm
gonna eat that ass up. And uh, I don't know
that I go to Phoenix ever again, Mike Harmen, Well,
they hate you, hate you. You were already bagging on
him being when you took your trip there last year.
(15:35):
I um, yeah, I uh yeah, yeah, I mean I
can't go anymore. I mean you didn't just pick the
Suns though, No, I mean I could play it. I
could play the tape back if you'd like. I don't
have to have it read back to me like I'm
at um. I not only said the Sons are gonna
win the title. I said the Sons were gonna be
(15:58):
have an easy ride a lot of five game series,
and uh, well they're trailing the Pelicans right now. Okay,
it's one game, hey, one game, that's right, yeah, Brandon, Yeah,
but Devin Booker limited to twenty five minutes to night. Oh,
(16:20):
by the way, operational efficiency, no question about it. But
leaves the game with what Monty Williams says, maybe a
hamstring injury. He has not returned to the game, and
he will not return to the game. They will know
more after they get a look at him and get
X rays. So now suddenly Devin Booker's availability who, let's
(16:44):
face it, if the Sons are gonna go anywhere, it's
Devin Booker. I told you he was gonna be the
best player in the playoffs. He was gonna be the
best guy. And he's on his way. He's on his
way to doing it. And now hamstring injury likely according
to Monty Williams. And now the Sun's may have to
navigate whatever part of the postseason without I'm saying the point,
(17:05):
the point God is really gonna have to come up big. Now.
I'm so sorry, Phoenix, I am so sorry you jumped on.
Remember you said how they had to chip on their
shoulder on the road to the ship because they were
so mad about the way Anthony Davis and everybody dismissed
their efforts to be a year ago and the regular
season that look every every all these other teams took
(17:27):
the air out of the room right and the nets
with all their drama, the Sixers with their drama obviously
in Los Angeles, both the Lakers and Clippers, but obviously
more Lakers than Clippers. But the Sun's just went and
did their work right, even some of the other would
be contenders. They had their their doll drums, they had
their lulls right. Though the Warriors struggled for a time
(17:50):
when Steph Curry got hurt trying to get Clay Thompson
back in Uh. The Bucks just hung around in the
fifth seed for a long time in the East and
then finally just said, you guys are right, Hey, hey,
it's that time. Let's go and and then they all
of a sudden they're shooting up towards the top of
the the standings there and the Celtics the same thing.
After the New Year's Now the Sun just went to work.
(18:12):
So we left them alone. Even when Chris Paul got hurt,
we talked about it for about twenty minutes, went oh,
there it is, but you know what, he'll be back
in time for the playoffs. So that's fine, and it
was fine because they kept winning. And now your sons,
who you said, we're going to walk to the finals.
I mean just used you were like, advance your token
(18:33):
to the end line, right now, that's what she said yesterday.
Your fault. Yeah, you see the way I did that. That
That was like a three minute preamble to just say,
it's all your fault. It is and I and I
gotta take it, and I gotta take it because it
is my fault. It is my fault. I could see.
I could see nothing going wrong for the Suns. They're
(18:53):
not gonna be challenged. They'll get to the finals. If
it's the Bucks, you're gonna see people say, oh, are
we gonna see the same thing. No, they're gonna win five.
The Sons are clearly the best team in the NBA.
They have been the best team all season long. Devin
Booker will be the best player in the playoffs, and
and through a game and a half he was on
his way. And now who knows, Now, who knows what's
(19:15):
going to happen with this hamstring injury again, According to
Monty Williams, who told Ali La Force this uh during
the broadcast, um, now everything is up in the air. Now,
who knows? For the Suns, they from bridges to be
built for the Sun's overwhelm their path. Overwhelming title favorites too,
were got knocked out by the Pelicans in the first
How about that, wouldn't that be something? Knows Zion Williamson.
(19:38):
And then there's Brandon Ingram waving at the Lakers because
he's got to do that. I'm playing and you're not.
I'm playing and you're not. He's got thirty six tonight,
he's got thirties yet six eleven and nine. I'll have
you know this is this is all big plus sixteen
(19:59):
to lead every It's all my fault. The final seconds
ticking down, the Pelicans are gonna win this game. Uh
it's one twenty three to one fourteen and the Sons.
Now suddenly you go from I feel great about everything too,
Uh what do we do now? Well? What do? What do?
I don't I don't know what happens now. I was
(20:19):
feeling so good twenty seconds ago. I felt so good,
and now I don't know. It's it's my fault. It's
it's all my fault. I'm sorry. Uh. Five of sixteen
nights from Chris Paul from the seventeen points, fourteen assists,
but a minus twelve for him. Obviously, Booker was on
fire seven of eleven from three point range, thirty one points,
(20:42):
just nineteen field goal attempts. He was giving you his
best Johnson and McGhee Bolton double figures off the bench,
but now you're looking at bridges forty minutes in this one,
he went for nineteen on seven and eleven shooting. Uh.
You circle his name, saying, all right, your time to
shine alongside Chris Paul, uh and DeAndre eight. Now. Be
(21:03):
sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith Show
with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven pm
Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the I Heart Radio app. Hey,
what's up everybody? It's me three time pro bowler Lavarrington
and I couldn't be more excited to announce a new
podcast called Up on Game? What is Up on Game?
(21:23):
You asked, along with my fellow pro bowler t J.
Hudshman's otta and Super Bowl champion. That's right, Plexico birds,
you can only name a show with that type of
talent on it. Up on Game. We're going to be
sharing our real life experiences loaded with teachable moments. Listen
to Up on Game with Me, LaVar Arrington, t J.
(21:45):
Hudgman's Otta and Plexico Birds on the I Heart Radio app,
Apple Podcast or wherever you get your podcast from. Now
here's a big thing coming off this Sun's game right now. Okay,
I'm taking the heat. Uh, this is my fault. I
picked the Suns to win the title. I told you
it was gonna be easy. And now Devin Booker leaves
(22:07):
that he had thirty one in the first half. The
guy was unbelievable, and he doesn't play and it looks
like it's a hamstring injury if he is out for
any length of time. This vaults the Golden State Warriors
into the overwhelming favorite to get to the NBA Finals
and win the NBA Championship. So much for Steve Kerr's
(22:27):
statement a couple of days ago, there's no pressure on us,
there's no way, but no. Now you're expected to win
at all. Because even if Booker does come back, right,
let's just say he misses a couple of games, Phoenix
has enough to beat the Pelicans and now it's up
in the air because they're going back to New Orleans
tied one one. Um, is he really gonna be a percent?
Hamstrings are never gonna be a percent right after you
come back. There's always gonna be the propensity to get reinjured,
(22:49):
to be able to have limited minutes. I don't know
if we're gonna see the same Devon book the rest
of the playoffs. The next hours is gonna be absolutely huge.
And if he's out for a length of time the
time he does come back, who knows what his health
is gonna be. And suddenly the Suns go from we're
getting the Western Conference Finals. Two. Hey, we're taking it
one day at a time. Hopefully we get out of
(23:10):
the first round and beat the Pelicans because some of
the Pelicans have better star power. Now you know they
got they got the guy that can score forty every
night in Brandon Ingram. The Sons don't have that guy anymore.
This injury is a seismic game changer in the NBA playoffs,
and we're waiting the next twenty four thirty six hours
to find out what this is gonna wind up being.
For Devin Booker, Well, I mean, we're talking about a
(23:30):
guy that over the last couple of weeks a lot
of stumping in in uh, posters being drawn up saying
he's our m v P, He's the real m v P.
Always the nod to Kevin Durant uh and his nod
to his mom. But the reality is that you've got
a guy that had carried this squad Chris Paul went out.
(23:51):
They didn't miss a beat. Uh, and they kept flowing
through as we talked about, just piling up wins quietly, consistently. Uh,
just a workman like effort, night after night, pouring in buckets.
And and for Devin Booker was his time to shine
to where when he wasn't on that final ballot, you know,
the the top three. When those started getting released over
(24:13):
the weekend, everybody's you know, shrugging their shoulders, going, what
are we doing here? Right? But unfortunately only three guys
can appear. We'll see what the final voting is, right,
it'll get a lot of fourth place votes, would be
my guess. But his loss here, uh, if it is
for any length of time, Uh, the doors open, because
(24:33):
you've got the Pelicans been relentless. Once they figured it
out right and realized I wasn't coming back, everybody assumed
their Roles. You've got a guy in Valanciunas. Uh that
that is going to give you a double double every night. Uh,
McCollum had twenty three. You're getting better balance, some playoff
the bench. Uh, and right now a lot of confidence
(24:54):
behind Brandon Ingram. So Uh, there's danger even in this series,
forget about Look, I don't road. I don't know if
they get down the road. Man, No, I don't know
they can get out of the first round if Devin
Booker doesn't If Devin Booker's out for the rest of
this first round. And again, we don't know. We're waiting
to see. He left the game tonight in case you're
just tuning in. Left the game tonight with what Monty
Williams is calling a potential hamstring injury. Uh, he didn't
(25:16):
play a lot in the second half. He's gonna be reevaluated.
I don't I don't know that they have enough to
get by the Pelicans because Devin Booker is just that good. Look,
it's part of the reason why is that this is
where the Sun's ascension comes from. Because now it wasn't
his moment in the playoffs last year. Things got a
little weird for him. He wasn't quite ready for it.
He's ready for it now. You see some of the
(25:36):
shots he makes now. His confidence levels even bigger than
it was a year ago. I mean, this kid is
an absolute superstar. And with the even though the Pelicans
are ten games under five hundred, they have a couple
of stars. They played better when McCollums showed up, and
now with McCollum and Ingram. Uh, that's the top two.
That's better than the Sun's top two. You know, if
if you're taking Devin Booker out of the equation saying, okay,
(25:58):
the top two for the Pelicans, it's better than the
Sun's top two. So that's really that's a really difficult
thing to have to go past. This is now a
fifty fifty series. If he's out for the rest of
the series. This changed everything. This to change everything in
the playoffs, Mike everything, I know, Buddy, right now you're
gripping because you had them coasting. Uh, we've got the
(26:19):
audio tape. Will make sure to release it in small snippets, uh,
to many of our outlets, to make sure that you're
on record, uh forever in a day, but uh no,
just uh shows once again, how things turn on a diamond.
And right now it's all speculation. And obviously you you
want for the NBA, for the Suns in the year
(26:41):
that they've had, for Devin Booker to be acknowledged as
he is, because right last year it was a lot
of praise towards Chris Paul. This time around it's been
Devin Booker taking the lead. Uh. And and you hate
to have these turns in the playoffs, but we see
it every year. Were suddenly out of out of the blue,
we get one of those surprise uh notices of an
(27:02):
injury and hopefully it's it's not severe, but I guess
you you look at it and and just hope, hope
for the best out of the m R I and
everything is. They get ready to head back to New Orleans. UM.
But right now, advantage Pelicans. They may had a successful
business trip. We'll bring a little bit of money. Williams
just getting set to sit down to meet the media.
(27:22):

(27:46):
Restrictions apply, so getting the zone. Auto Zone coming up next. Boy,
not quite a guarantee, well, not quite up. Well, I
will say this, not quite a bold prediction, more of
a guarantee involving Tom Brady for the year. That's bold
considering what what just happened with the last one. Yeah,
I love him. Rolling sevens buddy, that's next, right here. Fox.
(28:10):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific. Devin Booker's hurt I picked the Sons to
go to the finals. Hang on, I need a drink.
I need a drink. You know, that's exactly what it is.
Diet coke. That's exactly what it is. That's pretty good though.
You really you really got that to pop, like you
(28:30):
were really making the hard stuff hard. So I need
a diet coke? What's the Michael Keaton line from the paper,
three diet cokes for you, show me something like this
in the morning. Three diet cokes first. Uh, the Jason
Smith Show with my best friend Mike Carmen. Yeah, we'll
have more on Devin Booker. Uh here from Monty Williams
coming up in a few minutes. Just how serious his
hamstring injury is. Uh, this could clearly change the path
(28:53):
of the NBA playoffs if he's out for any length
of time. But you know, we mentioned this earlier in
that Now finally, the Tom Brady potentially to the Dolphins
story is starting to break a little bit nationwide. I
don't know why it's been so long, uh, until we've
gotten people paying attention to this. The the rumor that
(29:14):
Brady was going to retire from the Bucks find his
way to the Dolphins, be the quarterback, eventually be partler,
team owner Sean Payton was going to go there and
be the head coach. And it was how is this
not getting any bigger? I don't understand. How is this
not getting any bigger? Well, now it's sort of is.
As today the Dolphins talked about it, and look, this
(29:37):
has been a big topic of conversation. Tom Brady and
the Dolphins and Sean Payton all of this and uh
bucks GM. Jason Lighte was asked, what's going on with
all this stuff, and he said, ah, you know, nothing
to see here. We're all good right now. He's put
a lot of chatter about Tom joinings with Miami Dolphins
next year as a part owner. Given that that it's
out there, it's been an effort on the organization's part too.
(29:59):
Maybe offer Tom something to kind of seal him with
you guys for the future. No, we haven't had those discussions.
So all the only discussions I've had that we've had
with Tom is when he came back and we're excited
about this year and we're excited to get going. Uh
So there, so there you go. Uh Here's part of
it is above Jason Light's pay grade. He can't talk
(30:21):
to him about the post playing career ownership and all
of that. That's got nothing to do with anything, right,
I mean, it's gonna Yeah. No, I haven't talked to
him about that stuff. Of course you haven't. But while
Tom brady situation for this year is not going to change,
He's gonna be a Tampa By Buccaneer, I guarantee you
(30:43):
you heard right there and he talked with Tom about
a new contract. No, that is never going to happen.
Brady is not going to not control his career the
rest of the way, because my first guarantee is I
guarantee that he's pissed and he's still ot on the
hook for them this year. He would have loved to
have left Tampa and gone someplace else, but under contract,
nothing you can do. Right. What did Bruce arians say
(31:05):
when those rumors first popped up, Hey, if Tom came
back and wanted to play someplace else, no, bad business.
Not gonna do it. Bad business past. Yeah, but Brady's pissed.
Why did I do that? He's not going to sign.
He's gonna play this season out, he'll be a free agent,
and then after this year, then he's gonna get to
his preferred destination. Maybe that's Miami and eventually part ownership.
(31:26):
Maybe it's San Francisco, depending on how things go with
or without trade lance. This year could be the Jets
if the Jets are good, but Zach Wilson stinks he'll
go to the Jets to stick it to Belichick one
last time. I can't stand the jetsman, boy, I've had
big games there in the past. I'm going Uh, I
guarantee you he's not gonna sign. He's gonna be a
free agent the end of this year, and there's gonna
(31:47):
be all the talk of Brady. Oh, he could retire,
he could re up. Now he's a free agent, so
he can pick his next destination. He's pissed. He can't
do it now. He's never gonna let that happen again.
He'll be a free agent in the offseason. He's gonna
leave the Tampa Bay and go someplace else. Yeah, I
wouldn't rule out that. You know, he stays in Tampa
Bay when it when it's all said and done, we'll
see what what the chatter is and how things play
(32:09):
out with with the offense as it has constructed, right Godwin. Uh,
you're hoping he's back to his his form all right,
coming off the injury. You still have Evans. You'll get
Gronkowski to come back when it turns the end of July.
He ready for camp. Uh No, But I'll show up,
uh and and then he'll he'll be ready to go
whatever week, three week, for whatever whatever it takes. Uh
(32:32):
And for whatever run. They have reconstituted running back situation
a solid defense. As long as he's getting along with
left Witch and the offensive coaches, it come back right.
You don't have to deal with Bruce Aarons. Bruce Errans
might be taking shots at everybody in the media, but
it's not an everyday noise that he's gonna have to
deal with down in the locker room. So the potential
(32:54):
is still to stay there. But uh, yeah, you want
to play a year to year right to where you're
not locking yourself in, particularly if circumstances change. Uh And
if you're him, yeah, after twenty two years, you've earned it.
And if it's Miami, if he actually put on a
Jets uniform though, oh yeah, buddy, Jets, Jets jetst just
(33:14):
talking about how weird that was the Jets betting on
instead of whipping on every quarterback they've drafted time to
time again, and then you bring the guy in that
used to beat the hell out of you of his career.
He could be enjoying Tampa Bay all he wants, but
if he can get someplace to stick it to the
Patriots and further his career, he will leave Tampa Bay
(33:35):
in a second, and I'm telling you that's what's gonna
get you. Twitter and how about a fresca Mike has
swollen dome. Coming up next, we'll hear from Monty Williams.
It's also time as we are now officially sweating Jansen
in the ninth inning of the Braves and the Dodgers
keep it here, Fox
