Smith Show with Mike Harmon on Fox Sports Radio. J
E t Eat Debt, Jet, j E t Eat Debt.
The Jets have won the Draft. Repeat, the Jets have
won the NFL Draft. Joe Douglas and Robert Sala holding

(00:44):
up the April Lombardi Trophy. The Jets have won the Draft.
This is not a drill. The Jets have won the Draft.
Mike Carmen, I am on top of the world right now.
Right now, they're all standing diva. We had a great day.
Glad Shella has been pulled out and brought up to
the front of a stage. I mean, just a fantastic night.

(01:07):
Great coverage as you always come to expect with our
guys here on Fox Sports Radio. So excited to be
with you, except for the fact that it just kept
going Jets, Jets, Jets. My phone actually shut off at
one point. You texted me so many times going sauce sauce.
People are like, are you gonna be okay? I'm like, no,
it's gonna be two hours of hell except for great

(01:30):
sports content beyond the Jets. I'm gonna tell you, Frostburg
has now called me three times in the last forty
five minutes. I've answered the phone. He's done the same
thing every time, and to go hello when he goes
blanken sauco click and that's good. That three times and
I gotta answer because you know, he's the producer. We

(01:50):
may have Actually, he may be telling us we're coming
on early. I got cruising. Something happened. Maybe we've got
a random guest fund you some sort of sauce apparel.
By the way, his first Panini Instant trading card is available,
and I just sent you a picture. They don't have
his first name on there. Sauce Sauce, we got same.

(02:14):
I'm gonna buy sauce forever. I'm going on eBay tonight
to buy every T shirt that has the word sauce
on it, Like Hinz fifty seven Tabasco top of tea.
We need to design him to sell. Sell Sell tweeted
at him, saying, Hey, if you're bored and want to
call in, I've got the greatest Jets apologist and fan

(02:36):
for the next two hours. Let me see T shirt
sauce men. All right, let's see what we got. All right,
See if you laughed at me when I told you
my daughter wanted sauce packets as part of my will,
there you go. I'll tell you at night. Oh man
from and it started out it was extremely fast, and

(02:56):
then it got unpredictable, and then things got really crazy.
Uh the Jason Smith Show with my best friend Mike Harmon. Uh.
Thanks to the guys who were breaking down the draft,
Jay Glazer, Rick Spielman, our own Rob Stone and LaVar Arrington. Uh,
taking you pick by pick through the first round. That,
of course, was one in runaway fashion by the New

(03:16):
York Jets and their three first round picks three not one,
but I ran away. I I even tweeted because when
they picked up Johnson, right when they get Johnson the
second down, at what was it? I had him going
and picked thirteen? I got it. He got picked and

(03:37):
locked up with that suit. I just I just went
and bleeping Jet you to nobody in particular. I'm sure
my neighbors were not so pleased to be streaming up
my television, but I gotta give him credit. Now they
still have to actually go do something on a field
one night to feel good. Is there? This is as
good as it could be. You know, this is always

(03:58):
as good as this, maybe as best and the best
it gets. So we have to run it tonight. No,
but once they did, like the Jets, Once the Jets
made that trade to come up, I said, this is
Jermaine Johnson. All right, this is like draft day where okay,
you know, I know Robert Salo wanted the edge rusher.
You wanted that. You know that's you predicate your your

(04:18):
your defense on. You can never have enough defensive lineman.
We took the shut down corner who could be the
next Arrell Reevs. We took an incredibly talented wide receiver,
Garrett Wilson, the best or second best receiver in the country.
Then it was hey, let's do something for you, like
when Kevin cost for Dennis Leary. Hey we'll get Ray Jennings,
We'll get Ray Jennings for you, Okay, you want Ray Jennings.

(04:39):
It's like, hey, we'll we'll get you that guy you need.
And Johnson, look, was he probably a little over evaluated? Yeah,
because you know, look he did fall all the way
to twenty six. But you are still getting a guy
that's that good at I mean, the Jets have won
the draft. I'll see you in the Super Bowl. I'll
see you this year. I went from thinking out with
a good draft. We go nine and eight maybe no,

(04:59):
now fifteen too. We got weapons on offense, we got
the next Revus. We're all set to go. And I
made it happen by putting sauce to the Jets in
the air for the past week. I put it out
there like LaVar LaVar Ball taught me that less of
few years, just put it out there in the universe,
never know what might happen. I've been putting sauce to
the Jets, Sauce of the Jets, sauce, sauce. All day.
I've been talking sauce, sauce, sauce. I'm sending gout pictures

(05:21):
and chips of sauce sauce. And I made sauce to
the Jets happen. He should send me some money. That's
pretty good. I posted on Twitter and Instagram just my
crudely drawn out mock draft that I I gotta be
honest with you. I spent less than an hour while
watching an episode of Law and Order earlier today. Uh
And I got five guys to the right teams. I

(05:42):
got it was fast, fast start, including Sauce of course
Saw and then kneel to the to the giants, although
I had him going fit to dead of seven. But
once again, Lovey Smith screwed me. You know, just so
you're never gonna always playing love back in the day
he goes and he takes Stingley a third. But what
did I tell you? Don't be surprised if Stinty came
off the board earlier. Uh then than anticipating in a

(06:06):
lot of mocks just starting to drift perhaps out of
the top ten. We did see some movement. You had
the crazy half of the Georgia defense gets drafted on
day one, but it really was chaotic. And then you
add a couple of big wide receiver trades in the
middle of it, Jason. Uh And, while you only had
one quarterback, zero running backs, uh, six wide outs in

(06:29):
the first eight team picks. Uh, it had something for
everyone and then runs on defense to start and close
things out. Pretty crazy, you know, now before we get
to the break, because we've got so much to break
down the next couple hours. Some teams that did a
phenomenal job. Some teams that made great trades, teams that
made horrible trades. These have made great picks, Teams that
made picks like, go, what are you doing? Um? I

(06:50):
really was done with hearing the phrase these picks are
coming fast and furious. It's like that's all Mike Greenberg
could say on the these picks are coming fast and furious.
I'm like, I can't. I can't. So I turned I
turned the TV down, and I turned on our coverage
at Fox Sports Radio. I could. I could not listen
to him say nothing but these picts are coming fast

(07:12):
like he's overwhelmed with the job, is what it sounded like.
I've been too fast, fast and furious now because I
because there is something to it. This draft ended way
earlier than it did last year. Okay, so just to
think about this for a second, I would bet you
the NFL had to push all along to make this
draft go faster to make it a better event for television,

(07:35):
kind of like they always do with shortening the oscars. Boy,
the oscars goes on way too long. They're never gonna
cut out commercials. You're still gonna get that. But there's
no reason why this draft went faster than any other
draft we have seen. They still had all the commercials,
you still had everything. What you missed was all that
in between time, that lag time between picks where it

(07:57):
seemed like the clock starts with the team is on
the clock, and then the pick would end, it would
go in, but there would be like four minutes until
the actual pick isounced. Then there's more lag time from
when the commissioner says the new team that's on the clock.
It's it's almost like the pace of play in Major
League Baseball, Like we go, we gotta pick up that
lag time because that's what I saw a lot less

(08:18):
of tonight during the coverage was there was less lag
time in between picks. It was here's the pick, so
and so's on the clock. The clock is starting, six
minutes later the pick is in. There wasn't a lot
of time for grab bass, wasn't a lot of time
for we're gonna visit here. We're gonna go visit here. Uh.
They made this a much more faster paced event. And look,
it was better, right because the first round does get bloated.

(08:39):
Like this first round ended like almost forty minutes earlier
than it did last year. That's a long time. Like
last year the draft ended at nine oh three Pacific
time tonight and ended like eight twenty. You know, just
you're talking about a forty minute uh move up in time.
And it was a better product. I mean, I like
a little bit breathing. I'd like that sometimes, but I

(09:00):
don't need it in between every pick because it does
get it does get tedious when okay, you get outside
of the excitement of the first six or seven picks
and then you go and now all right, picking eight
is on the clock, and then there's a trade and
now we start the clock over. And know when the
trades were made, a team was in with their picks. Uh.
They definitely made a push. And I bet you that's
a big inner office, inner NFL push this year to say,

(09:23):
let's get this draft on facon, Let's make a better
let's make it a better made for TV event. There
was less grab bass in the beginning, they were just
like there was just there was room for no fat.
It was very lean draft Mike Carmen, very lean like
Sauce Gardner who was out there and lean big and
lean or Revus with Richard Sherman like size. It was
gonna be the best defensive back in the NFL. It
was lean, Mike Rmon lean. You didn't even talk about

(09:46):
the cool chain he showed up with that was just
blinged out and said sauce on And then he had
another chain that was that also said sauce on it.
So you want to talk about you want to talk
about a look. I mean, that was about as good
as a yets. But to your point about about trimming
the fat, you know there there's something to be said.
You know, you're trying to make it a television show

(10:08):
for everybody, right and trying to bring everybody in. Obviously
second screen experience with NBA playoff games. Okay, maybe not,
maybe nobody cared. Wait, those two series are over, okay, cool,
But the when you look at the way the coverage went,
it was alright, pick was made. Here's a little bit
of a quick photo op with commission, but the clock
was already moving like there was no arbitrary you know,

(10:31):
you know, let's give it a few minutes and as
they leave the stage, then we'll start. Or you know
those kind of things you know, like tom foolery that
you would complain about, say with your favorite NBA team
at times, Hey, that clock didn't start, you know, those
kind of things. But it also, you know, to some
degree though, when you start getting to the middle of
the round for nerds like us, and I'll speak from

(10:53):
myself and whoever wants to jump into this circle with me, um,
it becomes a good remind MdeR of other players in
the draft beyond, you know, just the guys that just
got selected, and here's one or two that a team
may be looking at. And obviously, if you're you're listening
to our Fox Sports radio coverage, Jay Glazers leading you

(11:14):
to the water right, and you know what's coming because
it's Jay Glazer. But you know, pull yourself back into
the theater in the mind. You know, it's the well,
they could go this way, and they could go that way,
and we're now re reminded of all these other college
stars and we're getting more footage. Hell, you had a
guy drafted by the Patriots. I don't think they had
a single highlight of cold strange the six seven guard. Yeah,

(11:37):
now on Sean McVeigh and less need, we're doing a
podcaster in the draft, and they said, oh, we wasted
our time looking at this guy and picked number one
oh four because Patriots kind of it, right, It's just
that kind of thing. He said, Okay, moving on, so
and then they were already into the next pick, right,
it was already all right, that one's into, right, So

(11:58):
you had a little bit of a set, some urgency,
but you know, I'm okay with bloat. It's one night
of celebration, spectacle, and obviously it's Las Vegas, and I
know they had some high winds that kind of changed
how things had to look and operate at everything else.
But you know, the glitz, the glamour, it's it's all there, buddy.
It was. It was a fun first night. Can't wait

(12:19):
until the chaos of night too, because you know what
we get to get on and break that down to
as your Jets try to win a second night, uh
and really fill that roster. But yeah, that's good. I
was gonna remind you we've been away from the Jets
a little bit too long night. Every we have, well,
I had to bring it three minutes. We have to
be at the get well you you the electrodes that
you put on me just went off, and I can't
tell people you know, why and how and and where

(12:42):
you placed them, because you know, we wouldn't need to
give away everything here, but you know, just to make
sure I felt it, so I said, Jets, you know,
one more time here as we get things opened up.
But so much to talk about when you talk. When
you look at the Baltimore Ravens and the Salt Nous,
they're in the fact that Hollywood Brown, who's been waving
two people in Arizona for quite some time already. Uh yeah,

(13:04):
there's a lot of anger, and Mike Rabel, we're efforting
the sound. You want to talk about about a guy
that looked like he wanted to really get after a
j Brown but didn't and just kept saying team, Team, Jason,
just like your guy Robert Sala, team team, just like
him yelling Sauce into the phone what he called him

(13:24):
when he got him on the phone, Sauce, That's what
I would have done. Hey, Jason, want to talk to Sauce? Gardner. Yeah,
I'm a fifty one year old man. This is a
twenty two year old kid. Sauce, what's up? Man? Yeah?
I so would have been that guy. I so would
have done that. You're gonna probably get the chance. We'll
we'll eventually hunt him down in the off season and
get him on air, just so you can do that

(13:45):
and really, fanboy up. What was it like when you
put on the chain that said Sauce? How much is
that Shane worth? Like? Is it worth more than like
a couple of houses? But we're gonna try to figure
that out. If all legit diamonds, we're probably talking six figures. Right.

that you have, right, Yeah, No, I have said that
chain like that. Yeah, with all that's got rhyin stones
on it, doesn't it? Well? I am a rhinestone cowboy.
There's a question about it, but no I do. I

(14:30):
have been known to do that. It doesn't twirl, it
doesn't do tricks, but it it is flashy and it's
ready for the Elton John Show in November. I really

In the NFL Draft, sing It The New York Jets
select Sauce Gartner defensive backs Cincinnati j D e t e.

(15:36):
Jet didn't even need to say his first name, didn't
even call him on the NAH Sauce gardener that no
one's ever gonna call him, No one knows. He's just
he didn't not even called gardener anymore. It's just gonna
be sauce. So why would you bother. He's like Share
Madonna and all of the great musical acts, Usher, who

(15:57):
we've talked about a lot this past week. That's right.
It's sauce time in New York State. And the Jets have,
of course one the NFL Draft. All precincts have reported.
We are at one capacity. The Jets have won the
NFL Draft. That is no longer in doubt. We are.
We are okay, and we are confident projecting. The Jets

(16:20):
are the official. We're look look at look at on
the big screen right here the the the Jets have
won the NFL Draft. Look, John King is right there
saying his projection. Right there, look at him on the
touch screen. The Jets have won the NFL Draft. See,
I would go alongside, and I could. I could look
at that. The Giants did some great things, not as
good as so they could battle. Uh. The Detroit Lions

(16:43):
did some fantastic things for their squad, not as good,
so some opportunity mixed. They're in Uh for them, I
mean Philadelphia, they just went all in on Jalen Hurts.
So that's good. Not as good as the Jets, but no,
but yes, no, there's other good things. Now, there's many more,
just all about positivity. There's many Go to New Orleans Saints.
Got a guy that can go in and not only

(17:05):
play on Sundays, but he can clean up uh, Bourbon
Street because Trevor Penning. Uh, you can't go to sentences
without describing him as nasty as Gotta had thirty four
penalties and thirty six career games. He'll get after it
with you. Oh you know what else was nasty that
Jets draft? To look at that? Three guys? Uh four minutes,

(17:29):
four minutes, America, Welcome inside the Final Hour tonight to
the Jason Smith Show with Mike Carman, Big Time Ups
and thanks to Jay Glazer, Rob Stone, LaVar Arrington, Rick
Spielman carrying the debate through the first round of the
NFL Draft tonight. Uh, you know our show coming on
after them. And there was a time when I called

(17:49):
Scott Shapiro, our manager who produces the draft show, and
I said, hey man, it's a twenty. The draft is over.
It's time for America to know how much the Jets
won the draft by get rid of these four guys
and put me on now I'm ready. And he was like, well,
we're paying these guys for the rest of the hour.
He said, Okay, I can understand that. That's fine. So
that's why we came on tonight. But no, that's what

(18:11):
our thing is. We come on right after. But certain
nights like tonight, the Jets made those picks, It's okay,
what is Jet Well, hey, the Jets win the Austin Jets. Well,
I mean it's a red carpet kind of day. They
did have a grand prize winner that got to go
to a suite uh, and all the pageantry of Draft
week in Las Vegas, a Saints fan that was hanging

(18:32):
out on set to finish out their show at the Blajo.
I mean a lot of great things. And it was
a fantastic night of activity, from the first pick, the
blistering pace of the early picks, the trades that folks
are still wringing their hands about and trying to make
sense and obviously looking for the long play. Right. We
just talked about Malik Willis well and I mentioned Detroit

(18:55):
because you look at what's they've got offensively on paper.
If you don't like Jared Goff, well you gotta make
sure there's something behind door number two. So that's still
to come, uh in the draft over the next couple
of days. But Jason, I mean, this is what we've
been waiting on for months. I mean, we had free
agency that was as wild as we've ever seen it,
actual trades instead of just putting them into trade calculators

(19:19):
like you keep trying to do for the NBA and
getting guys to your knicks. Here, we've had a lot
of movement and now don't forget Phase two of free
agency begins at the end of the weekend. So there's
still a lot more going on here in the National
Football League, right all under the banner of Jets win
the draft, Like that's the big headline. Everything else is.

(19:39):
You know, turn to page D eight, you know, as
Beano would like to say, Beano Cook would say, that's
those stories are in the age type on page A thirteen. Uh,
Jets win the draft all the time. But yes, there
are other big things happening as well as the Jets
winning the draft. And you know, I just created a
voodoo dell, you get a lot and Garrett Wilson, And

(20:01):
you know what, you know, I like about Garrett Wilson
just before we get to before we get to Aaron Rod,
what about Garrett Wilson. You know what? I love that.
I would just like to see once in a while
when you see the comps now that uh, when someone
gets drafted, who do they remind you of? Right? Who?
What kind of skill set is the player? And Garrett Wilson,
his his comp was Lynn Swan And I'm like, oh

(20:21):
my god, that's so awesome. Right, so you have to
see Garrett Wilson making great catches. Then you got to
see video of Lynn Swan making all his big catch
in the Super Bowl, and I always think that's cool, right,
you know that had a couple of dbs. He that
was a really big effort to get the veteran and
and and reminder the NFL has been around a minute,
not just the last ten years, Like, oh yeah, here's

(20:41):
Lynn Swan making some catches from the seventies, right, you
know you had one of the dbs. A he kind
of is very much remind you Like Jalen Ramsey. I
would just once I'd like them to say, ah, this
guy compares to a bust, Like, you know, hey, this
guy's this guy's skill set is Vernon Golston. Oh wow,
you know, drafted number six out of Ohio State. Uh,

(21:03):
didn't record a sack in his entire three year career,
was out of the league like once in a while. Hey,
this guy's I hate to say it, but his skill
set is kind of like this guy that was a
big bust. I just want to see that, because not
every guy is gonna be a Hall of Famer or
a shutting down Pro Bowl on the back. It's not
gonna have no, no that shows up in the months
of draft analysis. If you want to go through it

(21:24):
not to mention guys being told they should go play
running back, you'll always at least have a couple of
those uh conversations mix they're in. But no, no, no,
you want you want the negativity. That's when guys are doing,
you know, the prep work ahead of mock drafts one
through thirty five. Once it actually gets to draft night,
if you say anything negative, uh, you get the cattle

(21:45):
prod that we spoke of earlier in the week. Twitter,

dot com. Slash rewards limitations they do apply. So if
the Jets are big winners, the Ravens are big losers.
We told you, and Malik Willis is going to come
off the board tomorrow. The Aaron Rodgers Packers situation just
gets better and better, and I almost feel like the
Packers are working against Aaron Rodgers, like it's a look,
it's a Lakers situation where yes, Lebron James is our star,

(22:29):
but you're at arms length. Like I I look at
the Packers the same way, like, yes, you're our star, Aaron,
but we're keeping you at arms length. What do the
Packers need the most? What do they needed wide receiver?
What do they do in the first round of the draft.
They draft the linebacker, couple of defensive players. You know,
get a couple of defensive players and your first pick
as a linebacker. And Aaron Rodgers is on the Pat

(22:49):
McAfee show while the draft is going on, and he
talks about this, and he says, quote, I'm sure Packers
Nation will be wondering why we didn't take a receiver
or trade up, meaning you know, I'm wondering why at
this point. You have to have faith in the organization.
Whoever we bring in tomorrow and the rest of the draft,
I'm gonna put in the time to work with those guys.
It's nice of Aaron Rodgers to say I'll put in
the work. That's not you. We're giving you fifty million

(23:11):
dollars a year, but I'll put in the work. Don't
worry about it. Um. I mean, I look at this
just like the Lakers are with Lebron, where we're not
going to give you that hug anymore. And to to
the extent of all you're doing is hurting yourself. Aaron Rodgers,
they didn't have enough offense last year when they had
Davante Adams, and then they got rid of Davanta Adams

(23:32):
and they got draft picks back. They did if he
actually threw the ball to Lazard and wasn't let's let's not.
Let's be fair about it. If he if he had
actually taken some more shots down field. I know he
was the m v P and all, but go back
and watch the playoff loss. There were opportunities on the board. Yeah,
but still you had a guy that, Okay, we're coming in.

(23:53):
You gotta get there. How are you gonna do it? Well,
we're gonna get on the back of Davanta Adams, one
of the top three receivers in the NFL, and now
you take him away from an offense that clearly wasn't
good enough last year. What did I tell you they
should do? Those big four picks. Take take wide receivers,
every single one of them. Take wide receivers. Trade up
for Jamison Williams. Take wide receivers. You need them. You

(24:13):
don't have anybody to throw the football too. Well, they
lost so many guys in free agency. Right round goes
to Chicago. Uh, THELDI is scantling to the Chiefs, and
obviously Adam's heading out to Las Vegas. So yeah, you're
you're depleted, would be the kind way to say it.
They do have a number of picks, they got two
in round two. Maybe maybe maybe something cooking there look,

(24:38):
they're not getting Deebo. The Niners aren't gonna trade Deebo
Samuel to the to the picture and they look they're
gonna keep them at this point right there, they're not.
That's the thing about oh Devo Samuel. Once the first
round began and Deebo stayed, that was gonna be it.
Because Jake Blazer told us the other night though, right
like when he told us yesterday, he goes, unless they
come over the top with some ridiculous trade offer, Debo's

(24:59):
not going any wear No, I mean, I mean, and
it would have had to have been overwhelming, right, But
once you saw what the Titans, you know, got back
for a J. Brown, it's okay the nine that much.
But if you're sticking But if you're sticking to your guns,
you're thinking, Okay, we have these wide receivers out there
that are available that we have to pay. Remember, you
gotta pay Debot and that's a big thing, right, you

(25:21):
gotta pay him. Uh you know that's a running back
as I go to arbitration. Oh look at you. No, no,
don't even do that. Use the tight end, argues the
tight end. That's that's tight end. Why because yeah, no,
that's the best You're a tight end, why are you? Uh? Yeah,
if I put the franchise tag on you cost me
a half of what it does for a wide receiver.

(25:44):
But I've never played that. It doesn't matter. That's how
we're classifying. So you knew that that was going to
be it. Okay, Well we really got to be blown
out of the water. And you saw what the price
was for a J. Brown, which we'll get to a J.
Brown coming up in a few minutes. So it's not
gonna happen because the Packers, the forty niners are not
going to trade a guy like Debo and not get

(26:04):
anything back right now, right, you need that immediate gratification
of Okay, if we are losing our best player, we
need to make sure we are replenishing that now and
not a year from now. So now you know Debo
is going to stay. So I don't know where the package.
Just like with the Ravens, I don't know what they
were doing. They trade away Hollywood Brown. They're the clear
losers of the draft. Packers the same way, because your

(26:26):
offense wasn't good enough last year, how's it going to
be better? Okay? And what did the offense do this year.
Did the offense get better or worse in the off season?
No matter what they do. In the last few rounds
of the draft, the offense got worse. So how are
you going to suddenly be a super Bowl team again?
I don't understand. You know you you clearly clearly saw that.
All Right, Rogers needs Devanty needs a star wide receiver.

(26:48):
He doesn't throw the ball to anybody else for whatever reason.
He doesn't. Now, you traded away that guy who Rogers
even said tonight, Oh you know, I thought we wind
up keeping Devanta Ada. Now revisionist history for him, who
supposedly know I was on board and I was told
we were gonna trade Davante Adams. I'm good. I'm good.
So now you know, besides, really don't talk that much.
And and they they put up a front that, yes,

(27:09):
we're in it together, but we're really just having each
other at arms length. And I don't get the Packers.
It's like we're so piste off at Aaron Rodgers. Fine,
we're giving him fifty million dollars. Now, Mr smart guy,
show us how great you are. Like they're gonna win,
They're gonna win. It's it's like trying to win the breakup, like, oh,
we're gonna win because if we suck next year and

(27:30):
Aaron Rodgers sucks, it's ah, look as see, you're not
that good. Yeah, but dude, he plays for you. You
gave him fifty million dollars. This is kind of what
I feel like. The pettiness is still going on. I
don't understand how the Packers think we're gonna get better
just by giving Aaron Rodgers more money and taking away
the guys he throws the football to. So they're they're
the other big losers of the night, them in the Ravens.

(27:51):
I just don't get Yeah, with the Packers, you draft
a couple of defensive players. One of them slip quite
a bit when you get to Wyatt Davante Wyatt getting
there with a number of domestic violence, uh situations, family
violence situations that have had to be investigated. One of
those guys that you know, the the proverbial A was

(28:12):
a top ten talent. But U goes to Green Bay
late uh. And as you mentioned a little bit earlier,
you know defense with your other draft choice, which leaves
people upset and now you gotta go start thinking about well,
what's still remaining out there in free agency. A bunch
of guys are gonna have to humble themselves and recognize

(28:32):
that the open market is not what they anticipated when
they got there. Right, So now it's all right, you
want to go play with Aaron Rodgers. And I if
I see one more line about Christian Kirk, I'm gonna
lose it. Okay, again, he did not set any market,
did wide receivers say I want what that guy's got. Yeah,
and then you calmly explain the Jaguars operate in the

(28:56):
multiverse in their own little plane, so don't even talk
about them when we're talking about compensation. Uh, and move
on from there. But you know, draft picks, Uh, they
still have a number over the next couple of days.
But yeah, for Aaron Rodgers, very depleted. I mean, Amari
Rodgers is there that they drafted this past year? Is

(29:18):
he's suddenly gonna have to elevate to uh a number
one or a number two kinds of situation. Um, Look,
as a guy who follows the division closely, and we
we've talked a lot about Aaron Rodgers through the years, uh,
and what the Packers have been in the division. Yeah,
they got stronger defensively, but we're looking at from an

(29:39):
offensive playmaker standpoint. You you lost the guy that was
the only guy he would look at in situation key situations.
And you know me, I love me some Aaron Jones
as much as anybody. And I guess you're looking to
get your tight end healthy and he gets back in
for red zone situations. That's all fine and good, but

(29:59):
has that difference maker? No? Uh So, still a lot
of work to do in Green Bay. The next two
days of the draft very telling. And I love the
fact that you had Rogers doing live analysis of what
the team was doing. That was good. That's why I
like this. If only we could get it, you know,
to network television. Here's your fourth viewing screen experience. Here's

(30:21):
a bunch of players from each team. They'll give us
a live reaction about the good, the bad, the ugly
what their team did, especially if they draft a guy
that's gonna take their position, or draft a guy who
seemingly offers no help. You know, like when you watch
a poker game on on television, it's like, all right,
no help to him, help to him, and they're they're
something brewing over there. Uh and then we get to

(30:42):
watch the player's reaction. Do they do they have the
cold dead hand of a poker player or do we
see an escalated heart rate? Let's end and verbiage. Let's
add to that eight four No, that's no help. Let's
add to that end that's a three. No, no help, alright,
going all the way around. Uh so they Ravens and Packers,
the two big draft losers. Be sure to catch live

Jason Smith Show with my best friend Mike Harmon, Live

(31:25):
from the Fox Sports Radio Studios. Where a big night
one in the NFL Draft that was in turns unpredictable,
fast moving. Yes, the Jets won the draft. Three first
round picks. They get your main Johnson, who was who
was predicted to be a top ten pick. They get
him at number twenty seven, draining back in the first round. Um,

(31:48):
what did this do? Well? It takes the Jets from
four wins to fifteen. But how about that? That's um,
that's just silliness. But you know what, uh, you can
say on record what they win the first one, Hey,
we're on these um. But there was one move that

(32:11):
will help take a team from Hey, maybe we're contender
status too. They should win their division, win twelve or
thirteen games, maybe a big time dangerous playoff threat. And
that's the Eagles after getting a J. Brown? Right now?
Did did this kind of surprise a lot of the league? Sure?

(32:32):
I think when they saw the trade package given up
that the that the Titans got, it was, oh, we
could have given you a little bit more for that
was on the board for a couple of weeks though,
right in terms of the well if a J. Brown
is gonna get moved, Philadelphia was brought up quite frequently. Sure,
I don't know that anybody would have expected this to
be the return for it. No, And it's it's like

(32:53):
when you see that fantasy trade in your league and
you go, that's all the guy got from I would
have given you. Why didn't he call me? Why he
text me? I would have given him more than that.
I don't believe it. But it is a great trade
for the Eagles, and and the Titans are already on
damage control, saying there was nothing we can do. Mike
Vrabel there in lockstep. We're all on board with what happened.

(33:15):
We tried to make it work. We saw the past
couple of weeks it wasn't going to work. We had
to move on from a J. Brown. It's not popular,
but they did. And the Titans, you're seeing them go
from point they could be a super Bowl contended to
now just getting a little bit worse, a little bit worse,
a little bit worse. But for the able. Uh. The
the little uh war room footage was him pacing back

(33:35):
and forth. Uh. And if you could read his mind,
I'm sure it was non FCC compliant. And you know
I coached draft conversation with the media, his words were
very judicious, very measured, very quiet. And I don't know
that I've heard a coach used the word team team. Team.

(33:58):
A man stands alone at the plate in the field,
team team, team, and if he had a bad he
might have taken it to someone, but he hid in here. Uh.
And from J. Brown, good for him. He got a
fifty seven million dollar Garantdee. Well you know that, and
that's part of it. Right, when you make a trade
for receiver, you can make an FM picks offer, but
anytime you have to pay somebody, those picks aren't going

(34:20):
to be as great because the money and what you
have to doll out is part of it. And four
years a hundred million dollars, this is what the best
receivers are getting now upwards of twenty million dollars a year.
And this is a move for the Eagles. Not only
should they win the NFC East, they will win the
NFC's They should win twelve or thirteen games, and they
should be a big time deep postseason playoff favorite. You

(34:42):
are talking about an offense now that already was the
number one rushing offense in the league, right with Jalen
Hurts and Miles Sanders. And now you have two number
one wide receivers in DEAFNT Dick Smith and A. J. Brown.
They're too big to fail. The Eagles went from hey,
they're a nice team, but they got some holes to
oh my goodness, how do we stop this team? I mean, really,

(35:03):
how do you stop this offense? I don't I don't
know that there's a way, because this is this is
exactly what they needed. They needed that that one one
more not not not a player to take up the
rest of the field. But they needed they needed another
star player where you can't focus on one or the
other because hey, all right, Davante Smith is really good.

(35:23):
If we roll coveragees towards him, we stop him from
getting the football, will be okay in the past the game.
Now you can't do that anymore, alright because now you
have another superstar wide receiver on the other side. I
mean the Eagles when you when when you break down
their quarterback, running back, top two wide receivers, right, which
is how you like to break down the skill position
players in the NFL. I don't know that that's that's
that's not a top three or top five group. When

(35:45):
you go quarterback, running back, top two wide receivers, that
is some kind of dangerous. I don't know how you
stop them. This should be the the Eagles. That should
be their NFC East and again a deep deep playoff
and they become a Super Bowl contender basically with this
one move getting a j Brown. Look at you the
exciting You don't even mentioned Dallas Goddard. How do you
leave Dallas got it? Aren't there? Because back up as

(36:07):
well as backup tight end J j R. Sega Whiteside
couldn't Megan as a wide receiver, so they said, you
know what, you're a former second round pick. Let's shift
you and see if we can add you know. They
also added Zach Pascal, who was a pretty good receiver
under the radar there for the Colts. Quez Watkins had
some big games. You've got depth at wide receiver. Offensive line. Uh,

(36:31):
it's all about health and keeping guys upright. Right, Kelsey
still leading the charge. He and Lane Johnson at the
two of them can stay healthy. Uh, You've you've got
some other pieces and a little bit of depth there.
Uh the running back position, Miles Sanders as the leader.
But you got good production out of Boston. Scott again
sounds like a radio caller, but a guy who raised

(36:53):
up a few times. And then Kenneth Gainwell, who they
had big hopes for to be a breakthrough guy who's
still or so. I mean, you definitely have opportunity. I'll
be curious to see what they do with the rest
of the draft to kind of work to the defensive
side of things. Uh. As you do have some guys
that are getting a little longer in the tooth, particularly
looking when you you have the greatness of Fletcher Cox there.

(37:16):
But when we look at the way it's set up
right now, the fact that you just basically traded out
wide receivers, right, you're not paying um. If you're the Titans,
you bring in Burke's and then you get the first pick. Yeah,
for the Eagles, you went all in on Jalen Hurts. Right,
everybody was wondering how much do they love him? Do

(37:38):
they not? Was he going to be one of those
guys that might have gotten dealt Remember when we were
having that big board of quarterbacks who people liked or
didn't or trying to find a partner for this year's
rookie class, I'll forget about it. They just pushed all
in and said, all right, Jalen you're the captain. Now,
let's let's get it going. And A. J. Brown is
a guy that I think people get a better glimpse

(38:02):
of what he really can do as great as he
was last year. And I think Ryan Tannehill deserved a
little more respect than he gets. But look, they'll draft
his replacement here in short order in Tennessee. But the
Philly offense, I mean we can do we can go
through their opponents and you can tell me are they
gonna win the game or not. Uh, you got two

(38:23):
against Commanders. They got the Bears at Soldier Field, Uh, Cowboys, Lions, Uh,
the Texans, the Cults? You are are you making your
mental list of wins and losses pits Trabisky? Sure, maybe
led by or Kenny Pickett. May dude keep trying to
make Trabisky happen, though they may they may trade him
at this point. Now they got their guy. Mike Tomlin said, Hey,

(38:47):
we went all across the country looking for a quarterback
and we found him in our backyard or something that. Uh. No,
they they've got a schedule that will be interesting. Oh
and at some point at Lincoln Financial, they will have
the tight um. It's match. It's it's one of those
things where it serves both times. Because you say how

(39:08):
they've gone all in on Jalen Hurts, and I think
they've kind of gone all in on them. They've certainly
gone always paid a million dollars to bring this receiver
gutter Y. Yeah, yeah, you paid. No, you can because
you're paying Jalen Hurts a second round contract, right, You're
gonna pay him that for a while. So that's pretty good.
But you've gone all into the point where if it

(39:30):
doesn't work out with Jalen Hurts, you can go get
another quarterback and PLoP them in and go all right,
if it didn't work with Jalen Hurts, now maybe someone
who's a little bit more solid can work with these
two great receivers we have in the great rushing game
we have, maybe we're not gonna get the rushing totals
we have because look, Jalen Hurts the guy that's gonna
be good for eight hundred yards a year. That's why

(39:51):
they have part of the top rushing attack in the NFL. Again,
top rushing attack in the NFL. So I feel like
they've kind of gone like, hey, they're all in on
him now, but do they have room if they want
to replace him to go get another quarterback? And they do,
but you have a couple of years before you have
to make that decision. That's the beauty of it. Yeah,
I mean, so it's not like, hey, you're our guy
the rest where you're gonna be here for ten twelve

(40:12):
years and everything is awesome. No, it's okay, we're kind
of all in on you right now, but we still
have wiggle room. I think there's se in on Jalen Hurts,
but it's not gonna matter because this year is gonna
be such a great, big year. And you know, Hurts
his fantasy value just went from what what was he
the number five, number six quarterback overall in fantasy points.
This year probably will be top three. You saw, you know,

(40:34):
his value up there is going They're gonna win a
ton of games. Their offense is gonna be unstoppable, and
and and for all of the NFC that pretty much
stayed at the same level. The Rams somehow find a
way to get to get better, which really doesn't happen
for Super Bowl champions, but they did. But Tampa Bay
is the same, a little bit worse. The Packers are
a lot worse because there's nobody Freren Rogers throw the

(40:56):
football to um. The the the South is like, oh boy,
you good luck. They're the rest of the South. The West.
You know, you still have the Niners who have problems.
The Seahawks are starting over. Are you believing in the
Arizona Cardinals? The team that made the big leap, that
made that lead to say in the offseason, all right,
we've gotten so much better now? Is Philadelphia. That's the

(41:19):
one team that's all right, who to get better? To
go from a periphery playoff team, we can get in
and play a game, But then who knows to be
in a big time contender. Yeah, they're the team that
did it. I mean they're they're the team that that
that stood up and said, hey, we can make a
run at this. The NFC is not that great. Quarterbacks
are leaving for the a f C and Droves why
not us? And the Eagles are right up there. I

(41:39):
would say right now, if I had to say who
looked like a super Bowl team in the NFC, obviously
the Rams, and then I would have the Eagles and
maybe the Bucks because Brady is back and you I'm
sure they'll figure things out there a little bit more.
But I put the Eagles right up there a super
Bowl contenders with with the best of the NFC. Look
at you. I love the excitement enthusiast him. Uh, Giants

(42:01):
got better, so that they'll but they still have Daniel.
But they stunk. But they but they stunk and they're
gonna play Dan. You're right, and they're gonna play well.
But if they're slightly better than cannibalization occurs. The big question, Uh,
just since we're in the division. Uh, looking at Dallas
and their draft pick of Tyler Smith out of Tulsa.

(42:21):
When the first line of almost any review you read
pre draft or now after the draft is big range,
long term project. When you need lineman now in Dallas. Uh,
that that's not the most reassuring for what you've done
going all in on Dak Prescott, particularly when you need

(42:44):
wide receivers. You want to talk about Green Bay in
the exodus, Dallas is in the same boat, right, Yeah,
Michael Gallup remains he's coming back off an injury. When's
he ready? Right? And what's he when he comes back?
Is he a number one? Now? I don't know, so
curiosity city there, But yes, I love the fact that
you're now screaming E A G L E S wherever

(43:06):
you can. Good for you, Twitter, and how about a
