(00:23):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio. Hey, it's time for
hour to the Jason Smith Show with my best friend
Mike Harmon. Get in there and yo yo yo, live
from the Fox Sports Radio studios. Right now in the
n b A, Memphis playing without John Morant, and remember

(00:49):
when they've not had them this year, their records actually
been better. They lead the Warriors right now thirty five
thirty one, three and a half been to go in
the second quarter. It has not been a big night
for Steph Curry or Clay Thompson. Neither of them has
even hit the double digit market points yet. Uh, Steph

(01:10):
and Clay have combined to go six for seventeen from
the floor. Jordan's pool too for eight. So you're talking
about the three best players, the three biggest offensive threats
on the team are combined five for twenty five from
the floor. So I don't expect this to continue for
the Warriors. So I'm not pressing the the alarm button yet.
But still, you know the Grizzlies out there. I didn't

(01:32):
think they'd even get off the bus with with this game.
It said no. John Morant there pissed, and the Warriors
can sense it. Even though Steve Kerr is not coaching
the game because he came up with a positive COVID test,
Mike Brown is coaching the game before he leaves to
go coach with Sacramento. Uh Mike Brown actually coaching wearing
a Sacramento kings at and sitting next of Lotti Divat
smoking cigarettes with him on the sideline. Uh. Still, I

(01:54):
expected the Warriors to have a little bit of a
better start tonight. Anytime we get Jerry laughing, it's all
good about him smoking cigarettes with sitting on the sidelines.
Smoke up, Johnny, it's actually having a conversation about cigarettes.
Smoking a little bit earlier, celebrating all sorts of milestones
and birthdays and anniversaries or whatever in my extended family,

(02:17):
and I'm like, all right, I gotta at least get
to that age. Man, I never smoked. I don't drink much. Uh.
It's coming off of really really really really don't you
make your own alcohol? You like you like you like
you like, make you like you know, meet people on
the shores with clear bottles of alcohol going here. It's

(02:37):
you know, it's twenty dollars a bottle under the table.
I mean you do that. All allegations and there's no
proof whatsoever. Um, but yeah, Porter hits the Big Three
with what three twenty three left? That's the first three
pointer made of the night. So they're one for sixteen
as a team, eleven turnovers in this first half, and
they're down four. They're down four. Come on, Jenkins, you

(03:02):
guys have been so good without joh What now you're
because of whatever came through off of his imaging. You're
all sad and depress. Go play basketball. If the Warriors
lose this game, can the King's not hire Mike Brown? Like?
Do they there an escape? You lost? This? Is it
like when you buy a car and you have, you know,
a little bit of time to bring it back, or

(03:24):
you're buying a house and you have some clause in
the contract to get out of the deal without a
penalty or maybe with a minor penalty. No. I like
the I like the house party because you do you
can get out of the house. The car is tough
because like as soon as you drive it off, the
lots appreciations paying in the neck. Yeah, but the house
I think you can get. I like it's kind of
a house thing. Yeah. Hey, we don't know if you

(03:44):
really want Mike Brown anymore. So you well, we brought
in our expert and he found some spirits that you
didn't disclose. And I don't mean alcoholic beverages. I mean
now we're ghost hunting. Now we're ghost hunting, and we
got problems. So I'm out and I brought in a guy.
We had to do a thing and it didn't work.
There's still uh something creeping around in the in the

(04:06):
wee hours of the morning. But yeah, from Mike Brown
eleven and oh in seventeen, I don't know how all
of a sudden they're giving him the victories because remember
when Steve Kerr was out with his surgeries and Luke
Walton was in charge. Luke didn't get any of those wins.
Those all went on Steve Kerr's resume. Now I got
Luke a job and a lot of money because people

(04:28):
watched and said, hey, we need that guy, So Mike Brown,
opportunity knocks. But here on the big stage, I don't know,
would be interesting to see all of a sudden, it's
like a a panel on one of these reality shows
where either pressing a button or giving a thumbs down
and saying, hey, you're done. Uh and and maybe that happens,
and then they bring Luke Walton back to coach a

(04:49):
couple of games for the Warriors, and then maybe he
gets the job, Like he wins a game and then
Luke gets the job. I mean, I've been seeing a
lot of ads when I'm I'm revving up my you know,
binge watching for the new Game of Thrones series that's
coming out, So yeah, why don't we do that here
and have it in the coaching box. M I kind
of like that. I kind of like that deal. I
think that will worked pretty well. I think it's good.

(05:10):
But that would be great because you could because then
they get to the point where they're bringing Luke Walton back,
right like that would be like you hired Mike Brown.
Mike Brown doesn't win the games. Okay, so they get
rid of they get rid of him, and now he
did he doesn't want they don't have him coaching. The
Warriors move on. Luke Walton comes into coach Game four
or game five, he wins, and the Kings go, oh,

(05:31):
we're gonna get him back again, and they bring him
back to coach and they bring it full circle. Well,
it's kind of like when of superstars out of wrestling
for a while. Maybe they had had to have a surgery. Uh,
life events, you know, injuries are just to change in storylines.
Like tonight, Alexa Bliss comes back as part of w
W Rock kind of a big deal, big personality was

(05:51):
part of a huge storyline. Same thing here. Now you
can bring coaches back the same way, Dark Misty Fog.
Who's coming out? I don't know? And there it isn't
like Brown or maybe it's Luke waltonan you don't know. Surprise,
there's our new coach. I mean, why can't we have
an unveiling that way? Why do we got to do
this months in advance their training in secrecy? Who's the coach?
We don't know. They don't get access to that part

(06:14):
of the practice. Yeah, but that would be all the
way back. We'll just keep finding guys to come out. Okay,
you didn't work you didn't work out, and then we
wind up with that happening. I got you, I gotta
I gotta call Adam silver sieves me. You're not calling
for a literal coaching conveyor belt. There's always been the
complaint that guys don't get shots and first opportunities. You're
literally just calling for the all right, get them all

(06:36):
in a row and uh random selection? Do you want
what's behind door number one to three or four? Do
you want what's in the box? Do you really do
you really think that's worse than how teams hire guys now,
I mean really, you guys could have done it that way.
It might have been better. It could it could have
been better. For years, Hey, oh we want to oh
we wownd up with Isaiah Thomas again? Well he had

(06:59):
his name in every red and everyone no matter what
Doria picked, it was Isaiah Thomas. You know what? This
weekend there was a new release from from Tops as
I bring all of the pop culture and and rememberabilia references,
so they Tops doesn't have the license for trading cards.
Panini does, right, so they can't put any pictures of
guys in their uniforms. So they produced this veteran set

(07:20):
and it's got a couple of current players in it,
but mostly veterans, and they're all like studio shots where
they're in a suit or whatever. There's an Isaiah Thomas
card where he's wearing this cool fur coat. It is
the craziest looking thing I've ever seen. And I saw
a guy pull one and I think he laughed for
four minutes before he said anything because he hadn't seen it,
hadn't heard of it, and about lost his mind. But

(07:41):
we can we could do that, right, I mean it.
It is that conveyor belt uh and retro kind of
feel to it all. So I'm with you. Uh best
wishes of course to Steve Kerr as he recovers uh
from COVID testing chance for COVID nineteen. You know, we're
just let look and and and to to put this
in perspective of right, we had a lot of Nicola
yoks to get into here, uh, is that we're it's

(08:04):
just gonna be like this for a while, right, Like
we're going through another um uh quick surge of COVID
now with the oh maicron variant that's been that's come in.
And look, I'm happy for the fact that when this
has come up now that we we kind of burned
through it kind of fast and and we get back
to the regular protocols we're at and it's not something

(08:26):
that is is bringing society to its knees like it
did in the beginning. Um, you know, but unfortunately this
is something that you know, we're talking about it in
sports wise, is you know, this is still here and
it's still something has to be dealt with, uh, and
it is it is very interesting now to see that, Okay,
now with more of the knowledge we know and and
and how to trans and how it transmits and and

(08:46):
and where we are as as as as society, Like
a year a year or so ago, if Steve Kurt
test pods COVID ninety, it's can we even play the game? Right,
it's can we even play What kind of contact did
he have with Steph and Clay? And did he run
practice earlier today? And and which is it? And can
they come in now? We don't know if we can
even play the game, and do we have to worry
about how that plays out? And you wonder our teams.

(09:08):
Would teams be hiding positive COVID tests so we can
wind up playing games. And and now we're at the
point where it's okay, yeah, you're positive. That stinks. Everybody
else tests, everybody else negative, Great, we're playing in the game,
you know. So we we've we've really progressed to that, uh,
to where okay, COVID is if you are positive, you
can't play, you can't coach, you have to stay away
from a certain number of days. But everybody else, as

(09:30):
long as you're negative, you're fine. You don't have to
worry about close contact or any godside you can you can.
You have to test, right because that that's the way
it is. But as long as you're negative, you're playing.
And so now it's it's more like it's more that
sports is dealing with this is as as an inconvenience
and something you know, kind of hold your breath on,
almost like when a when a player gets so you
don't want someone to get hurt. It's an injury you're

(09:51):
thinking about, because that's kind of where I see teams
thinking about COVID. Now we're dealing with it like we
would deal with an injury. Someone's out for a couple
of days. It's just how right now it just happens
to be the head coach that's out for a couple
of days until he can come back and coach. Yeah,
I mean when you come back down to it, I
think the key was, as you said, as you learn
more and you watch people respond, and it doesn't take

(10:13):
away from the lives lost, lives affected all of the
online schooling and the great ramifications to the students, teachers, faculty, staff,
et cetera. All the way through businesses and what it's
meant for people trying to keep keep the lights on
for for businesses. But you adapt and and obviously there's
a lot of angst books, films, everything else will be

(10:35):
written about the last couple of years. But in the
here and now, you know, events are open, right. I
try to get out with my my girls as I can,
but we're still safe, right, and try to be but
recognized that if you if you go anywhere, and I've
said this since day one, even you go to the
grocery store and who knows how many people handled that
pair And did I really wash it perfectly when I

(10:59):
got home? I don't know, Maybe maybe not delivery boxes. Uh,
and and and signing for stuff, but taking the pen
from the delivering I mean, there's a million ways that
as we've we've gone through this, but you know, you
find best practices and you move forward, right, all those
analogies that we use from sports movies all the time.
I mean, or you do like the NFL didn't just
said all right, we're done pretty much testing unless something

(11:22):
crazy happens. Right. Uh, for the NBA positive tests, here's
the steps, and you know, keep retesting and hopefully for
Steve Kerr not only does he not get ill ill,
but also that he gets through it quickly and you
never know, false positives all those other things that come through.
But for tonight, the Warriors battling towards half time, and

(11:45):
we'll see how this plays out. But yeah, life as
gold Bloom told us, finds a way. Yeah. You know,
it's funny you say about the different Um, how how
do I say not not not not the different protocol
we go But you say, Hey, I went to the
store and I bought fruit, and did I wash the
fruit well enough or not? Okay, maybe I did, you know,

(12:06):
I grabbed a shopping cart and maybe I've forgotten touched
my eye, you know, I mean, who knows because because
but that's just it. Yeah, right after we've dealt with
it for so long, it's it's, it's it's generally I
think a big part of it is that we've done
the protocols, so what you soby did them, did them
so well for so long, you get a little lax
fing into year two of it, and you're and you

(12:26):
are vaccinated and your double vaccine you have that, like
you know, Pam is is dealing. You know, Pam has
COVID now, she had COVID for the past few days.
So we're kind of isolating on opposite sides of the
house and she's doing she's doing fine. It's it's mainly
a big cough. But she said, you know, I you
know what I know. I know I wasn't as as
stringent the last couple of weeks ago. What do you
mean she was? Because a couple of weeks ago Pam
got her knee replacement surgery. So she's been she's been

(12:49):
doing a lot of exercises and trying to but every
time she goes and walks somewhere, whether it's to her
therapist to get you know, to to go through therapy
to you know, to to strengthen her knee. You know,
she's touching railings way more often than than she had
been before. And she said, I I know for a fact,
I've probably gone to parts where I've gone to touch
because I need the railings to hold onto, whether it's

(13:10):
here or whether it's we go to a store or
we go to a restaurant something to eat, and I
hold onto railings a lot more. And I know I
probably haven't been as stringent in making sure my hands
were clean. Maybe I touched my finger or something, who knows,
but just that she was I didn't even think about
that how much more I'm I'm touching railings because I
need that, you know, for support as I'm walking. So
I mean, honestly, with part of the surge I think

(13:32):
that we're seeing now could just be well, oh crap. Yeah,
you know, I was a little lax on that because
it's been two years and I've gotten vaccinated, and I
think that and I haven't gotten it or I got
it a long time ago, and I think I'm okay,
I really think that's a big that's a big part
that that plays into when we get surges from time
to time. Yeah, and in the end, you know, you

(13:53):
deal with and address as best you can. Hopefully you've
you've got a good relationship with your medical practitioners and
and some orc system to help you out. And you know,
in your case, right, you're throwing food across the house
in coming saying that old you know, underhand softball arc

(14:18):
that's been big. I'm like, I'm gonna throw. It's gonna land.
It's gonna land next to you. Okay, I'm gonna throw
it's gonna land next to you right there, Okay, great,
here you go. Or if I'm bringing bringing her over food,
it's like I take a deep breath and she looks
the other way, and I walk over and I put
the food down and I walk over. I go, we're
gonna do this just like jail. She's what do you
mean to go? I'm just gonna bring it to the door,
put it, knock on the door, and then you're gonna
come out and get it and pull it in. Why

(14:39):
did you buy this decorative tray? Well, I've got some thoughts.
I just want to do that and go feeding time right,
and just put it in front and push it through
just have the slot open it. She takes it in
to eat and then puts it back out when she's done. Oh,
that's she said. She said, she's in the other and

(15:00):
she's on the other side of the house. It's fine.
That's it's fine. That's fine. Twitter and out out of Fresca.

will you We need to play the sound eight to
two going to the ninth Thny No, no, no, we're base.
We're gonna load the bases with two wren to keep
it in the ball. All right, it's over. It's so

(16:53):
we'll bring you the audio promise you. Oh, are you
kidding me? Are you kidding me? I think the Guardians
just hit a grand slam. That's stay with the White
Sox now, buddy, I'm not lying to you. I'm not
doing it. I swear to god. I just saw that
the score change. I think it's eight eight now. I
think Ray has just hit a grand slam. No, no,
Nailor just hit a grand slam to tie the game.

(17:16):
It's it's six and the ninth now for the Guardians
and this game with the wh Buddy, I'm so sorry, man,
I'm sure that's all my faults. I'm so sorry about that.
That's what a great home crowd there at the end. Yeah,
I'm I'm I'm sorry about that. Man. I I just
look at eight two in the ninth inning, I figure
everything is okay. Let's so you can get start again.

(17:43):
Foster Banks, Hendricks giving it all away, terrible ben out
a run to there over five hundred up, fourteen and thirteen.
After that miserable start, all it took was some games
against the Cubs. Uh yeah, well that's true right now. Yeah,
the Cubs are back to being the Cubs now, and

(18:04):
it's like they just they just got dominated by the Dodgers.
The Cubs are back to being the Cubs, this era
of the Cubs. That was guy, it's over over right
now three nothing leaned top of the sixth over the
padres Uh, So we'll keep you up. Really really, I'm
so mad I wanted to. That's just to let you
know what we're playing. Just is there was a there

(18:24):
was an error made in early on in this game,
in the first inning, and the it was a flyball
dropped by the right field of the White Sox. And
it was an easy play, right it was it was
it was It wasn't a difficult play. It was Gavin
Sheets just dropped a flyball, and the announcer said, you

(18:45):
gotta be blanking me, Like on the air, he said,
it just you dropped the flyball. You gotta be blanking me.
And that's the question. We have to date like, we'll
have to bleep it, but then we have to debate
it because I I think it might not have happened. Really,
you think, no, I think it did happen. You think
he didn't say blanking. You thought he said yeah. I
think it's a conflation of the two announcers overlaying. You think, Okay, Well,

(19:10):
it's gonna be tough because we do have to bleep
it out. Yeah, I know you'll have to listen to
it on your own, because I'm pretty sure I heard
I heard him say you gotta be blanking. Oh no,
we all wanted to right. It's one of those where
you lean in. It's like, did I did I hear
what I think I just heard? Did he really say?
And then you try to hit rewind as fast as
you can did he say that? I think he just

(19:31):
said that. Oh he could have not. It happened sometimes, Hey,
it happened here at Fox Sports Radio. Once. I was
doing a show. This is my first time around. This
is like two thousand to two thousand three probably, And
uh I was doing a show with Rich Herrera, right,
Rich Herrera, who now does Yeah, yeah he did. He
did raise stuff for a long time. Right now, I
think he might do podres now. I don't know where

(19:52):
he is. But he was telling me a story on
the air, and he was telling a story about I
forget who was about. But he says something to me
that didn't seem like something I believe and I kind
of looked at him weird. He goes, no, I am
not blanking you, and I look at him like he
just said, he turned, He turned it, and he turned
he said to the uh he said to the uh,
the injury. Oh, dump that right now? Al right at

(20:15):
how about as at Strolling Dome? What was the line
from Smith that preceded that? He said, dump that right now? No,
he know, he was just telling me a story. And
I'm like, and I gave him look like, really, you
think I'm gonna believe that? He said, no, I am
not blanking you. And I was like, oh, dude, you
just said that he dump that right now? Dump it

(20:37):
right now? Oh my god. You should see the Franticness movie.
I can't find the dump button. How do you not
know where the dump button is? Dump it? Dump it?
Dump it was hilarious. I don't know. When I'm in
the studio, I always keep it next to me like
I'm playing pressure luck just stincase, But that happen when
you really needed something right away. It's from I can't
find it, Just press the button. You know where it is,

(20:59):
Just press the shiny red button. Uh So, yes, all
this because the Guardians somehow scored six and the ninth
inning game against the White Sox. Sorry, buddy, uh So,
trying to be a good Steward, and I went away
from my fandom right there winning. I'm gonna get back
and I'm gonna watch the NBA playoff game because that's
one of our focal points for this evening show. John

(21:22):
Morant's out doing Brooks back in met with the media
said hey, I like being booed, and and the Warriors
fans said, okay, here's forty seconds of it during introductions.
So all sorts of fun they're in as we get
the second half started, Oh, you were such a steward.
You were a Manuel Steward. That's how much of a
steward you were? Actually do uh Now in the NBA again,

(21:44):
Memphis and Golden State tied at forty three apiece early
in the third quarter. I remember Memphis played without John Morant.
We got the news today that Nicolayokich will be the
m v P and the NBA for a second straight season.
The official announce will happen sometime next week, and there's
been a lot of reaction to this. How is it not?

(22:06):
Joel Embiid. That's my favorite part of this, right because
there's there's fun parts. This there's debate parts. This is
parts that make you angry. The most fun part is
how mad is Joel embiid? How mad is Joel embid
And he's not gonna He's walking around his house. We're
not going how do I not win? How do I
not win? Talking calling people on the phone and every
going uh huh, uh huh, because you know how mad

(22:26):
he is, because he's talked about wanting to win for
the longest time. All he does is talking about winning.
All his teammates do is mentioned Joel Embiat and be
the m v P. I can't believe we haven't gotten
anything already. I canvely Joel embiad asn't said I am
boycotting the rest of this series because I was not
named the m v P in the NBA. I can't
believe it's gonna be NICOLEA Yoki. You know how mad
he is? I maybe, I mean he's gonna go out
it is. This is the worst part now because now

(22:48):
the next game he can go out and drop fifty
and you're saying, oh wow, man, Joel em beat All
he needed was this and and if if you know, look,
I understand that if that if you're playing against the
Sixers and you're the mind heat and you go. You
really had to name the m v P today. You
couldn't wait a couple of days. All you do is
fired Joel and meat up. He's gonna score fifty points
against US. Uh fun, But but that really, I mean,

(23:11):
I really I want to go pro on Joel e
Beat's head because you know how many he's talking there.
He's probably out for a steak right now, talking to
the waiter, going so why am I not the m
v P. Yes, sir, Yes, I agree, Mr Mbiad, Yes
you should be the MVP. I mean I only played
in sixty eight games, but other guys only played. Yes, yes,
I know now many people take days off, Mr Embiad,
Yes I get it. I gott understand. So I should
be the m v P. Would you would you vote it? Yes?

(23:31):
I would vote for you for m v P. What
would you like? How would you like your steak? Cook?
Mr embid? Can can you please tell me that I
really want to get it back to the kitchen, sir?
So that that that I I know is happening right now? Yeah.
His last tweet is from two days ago and it
was chilling for cryptocurrency. Oh boy, so we haven't gotten
anything since he was the cooler on that one. Was
he a good last couple of days? Well, it hasn't

(23:56):
been a good day and a couple of weeks for
markets in general. So yeah, right, he's the crypto cooler beat. Yeah,
well he might you might have to blame him for it,
but yeah, I mean that you bring up a good
point in terms of games played and all of that.
I like trying to get metrics in that. It's just

(24:19):
to put some I don't know, parameters on what you're
trying to do here. Right, you had seventy four games
for Yokis you said sixty eight, and beats like, where's
the line? Right? The talk of the end of the
regular season was will Lebron James play enough games to
qualify for the scoring title? So we have metrics for

(24:40):
that is? Should that be the baseline for everything? Should
it be higher for an m v P? I don't know.
And like I saw a lot of consternation and people
getting anger. It's like, didn't we know this was gonna
happen a couple of weeks ago. I thought it was
pretty much preordained that Yokos was gonna win this award
and everybody's gonna laugh at the facts that the Nuggets
were out of the play us and that's exactly what

(25:02):
should be done today. Instead, it's a referendum on the award.
Like we've been doing this for how long thirty years,
forty years looking at the m v P going, well,
that guy should have won ten in a row. Jordan's
that guy should have had another four of them. Kobe, yeah,
Shock should have had with another couple. I mean, like
all of those things, We've done it all the time.

(25:22):
So why why are you surprised when there's there's a
result that you don't like. That's the nature of this award,
you know. And and and this doesn't make sense because
it's not a Player of the Year award, But that's
kind of what you're telling me this year. Boy, he
had all the stats, right, a big man that's so

(25:42):
incredibly talented, and and that's become the in vogue thing
in the NBA when a big man is so talented,
he can do a lot of things. Uh, it gets
past everybody, right, be honest. With the back to back
m v p s and now yogets with the back
to back m vps. It doesn't mean they don't deserve
you know the credit they get, but it's like we've
fallen into that now that they could do it, um
nicoleo kich Uh. This year the Nuggets finished forty eight

(26:06):
and thirty four. They were in sixth place in the
Western Conference. Last year they were forty seven and twenty
five and finished third. So how does he win the
m v P this year when they had a worse record?
All Right, I I don't understand, because what everybody's gonna
jump to the colue and say, well, Jamal Murray as
good as he. Remember he didn't have Jamal Murray all season. Okay,

(26:27):
So okay, I get that. I understand that's a good
point to make. But then how does he win it
the year before when he had both those guys? How
is he so good that he can be the m
v P when he's got Jamal Murray and Michael Porter
But this year without them, Oh, he's still the m
v P because look what he did without them? Uh yeah,
they were. I don't but it doesn't make sense, right,

(26:48):
It's like, but you don't then penalize on this year,
going well, we gave it to him last year and
he had those guys, so fact that he's dominant this year,
but they finished in sixth place. They finished in sixth place.
You go, it's the same thing as Steph last year. Oh,
Steph's gotta be Steph had a great image. Everybody loves Steph.
I understand the desire to want to give Steph hardware,
But you're talking about team that didn't even make the playoffs.

(27:10):
You can't vote a guy that it's in the playing round,
right and even in sixth place? Really is that is
is how we should be going with the m v P.
The team finished in sixth place. Oh, take him away,
and where would the team be without him? Uh? You
take away any star player from a team, and where
would they be without that? They would stink? Okay, So
that that that that argument does not work. Where would
they be without him? Yeah, you take star players off
of any team. Where would the Sixers be without Joel embiad?

(27:32):
Where are they be? The bottom line is is that
he had been You know that this year was not
as good as last year, and he still is the
m v P. Sorry, no, you finished in sixth place.
You gotta at least finished near the top of the conference, right.
That's why I'm looking at guys like the finals should
have been people like Devin Booker and Jayson Tatum, right
and and and you know, if if John Moran had

(27:53):
kept playing all the way through, he would have been
up there. But he only played fifty seven games, and
Memphis was good with Adam So I'm okay with John
Moran not being up there. But you need teams that
achieve something during the regular season and not just stay
afloat and and and are a team that is hey
in the first round of the playoffs. Come it's fifty
fifty whether they're going home or not. All right, you
gotta do something during the regular seat. You can't just
be a good player because that's Player of the year,

(28:15):
right if you want to do that. And I again,
I don't know why leagues don't do that. Why they
don't have a Player of the Year award and they
don't have an m VP. They could have the Kobe
Bryant Player of the Year award in the NBA. Why not, Boom,
they could do what have that tomorrow? People would want it.
It would be another award. We would buy into it
right away. Who was the player of the year? And
then somebody different wins the m v P because m
v P is about how did where did you lead
your team to? What did you do? And I can

(28:37):
see Devin Booker leading the Sons to clearly what is
by by far and away, they were the best team
in the NBA during the regular season. Right. I saw
Jayson Tatum over the back half of this season lead
the Celtics from the bottom of the Eastern standings all
the way to the top. Right that, that's what I
need for guys to win m v P. What did
you do? What did you lead your team? Do? You
can't just have a great year because the the NBA

(28:59):
is dotted with guys having great years that their teams
didn't do well in the standings. Right, Lebron James nearly
won the scoring title, Lakers didn't even make the playoffs. Okay,
you've had guys have great years, but there they sit.
Trey Young had at another great year and the Hawks
finished in eighth. So you can you can have this.
It's not that it's not that it's one is mutually

(29:20):
exclusive from the other. Oh, but the guy. No, guys
have great years all through the NBA, but some guys
lead their teams up to higher parts part in the standings,
and some guys don't if and if the Nuggets were
up at the top, like if they were finished in
the top three at least this year in the world. Okay,
I realize it's only a handful of games, but still
you're talking about a team that's finishing in sixth place.
So if if you could finish higher, yes, I'd be

(29:42):
on board the Kola Yokis, But I feel like they
didn't like any of the other choices. Right, do we
really like to give it to Joel and beat he
played sixty eight games? Anybody. We can't give it to
mirand he played here. He played so I feel like
he was loud. We'll give it to We'll give it
to Nicola Yokich again, because right it was either Yoki
or Janna's most likely. I bet that you're gonna find
out that's where the votes are gonna go. Because Janice
was great again. He put up stats and the Bucks

(30:02):
won fifty games. Uh, okay, Actually we're better this year.
I have a better case for yannest for m v
P than first because the Bucks are actually better during
the regular season this year. But I felt like there
was just nobody else. It's like, how we're gonna give
it to Yokich again. So yeah, I I don't get it.
It's not a player of the Year award, and it's
not something that that really corresponds to the kind of

(30:23):
year that he had when it comes to what he
led the Nuggets to or didn't leave him to. Yeah,
in the end, it's the regular season award. You always chuckle, right,
because historically it would be hey, you go and win
and then figured out that and that's why you you
really just kind of made the case for a abolish
it as a regular season award altogether. Or that's why

(30:45):
we count rings and why that gets more weight than
any regular season awards you're gonna get because you gotta
go finish the job. And so for the voting of this,
I'm sure it's pretty tight, and you've got four or
five as you. I mean, you've got stars all over.
I mean you can go down to de Rozan and
bring some of those extended guys into the mix. Two.

(31:06):
And then he said, well, their team didn't do this
that the other and certainly for the Bulls, they couldn't
beat a good top seeded squad. But the argument is,
you know, depending on who's writing the narrative and pulling
out the advanced stats whatever. You can start spinning stuff
three ways till Sunday. Now I remember remind you that
it is media voting. So there are two things also
that are always going to be in the back of

(31:27):
people's heads when it comes to Nicolay. Number one, the
picture of a Doe Nicola Yokich as a child, right,
it's got some rolls, looking like the kid that played,
you know, and and just kind of hanging out. Was
always around and might have been taller and could physically
dominate a little bit, but a bit awkward, not into

(31:48):
his full self just yet. The other is when he
was drafted, they were at a commercial break and it
was an ad for Taco Bell game hit the Scroll.
So you know, those are two things that are always
going to be a reminder. Why because they're nice little
anecdotes that you can talk about in times like this
Twitter at how about a Fresco Mike gets swollen down
the Jason Smiths or with Mike ha Carmen. So there

(32:10):
you go. I mean the NBA they missed this one.
They just did a guy who never misses. He is
the anti Reds. Although I say he's got to be
the reds Now because the Red suddenly can't lose. It's
Steve to Sager with what's trending in the wide world
of sports, and the Chicago White Socks have loaded the
bases with two outs in the bottom of the night.
It looks like there might be a pitching change coming.

(32:31):
Or just to visit to the man, I mean the
really the Cleveland's got in there. He's thrown almost thirty
pitches in the bottom of the night. It's eight eight
Guardians and White Socks will keep you updated. Meanwhile, Memphis
is still leading its playoff game at Golden State third
quarter fifty eight fifty two. Head coach Steve Kerr are
the Warriors out tonight. He tested positive for COVID about
an hour forty five before tip off. Kerr had been

(32:53):
regularly wearing a mask at team headquarters in recent days,
missing the game for Memphis star guard John Morant, who
had thirty four points and Saturday Night's loss, but had
to leave then with the knee injury, which is the
problem still. Murrant becomes the eighth All Star in this
postseason to miss at least one game through injury. Two
shy of last season's league record. According to writer Mark

(33:16):
stunn Well, it's about four minutes left third quarter. Grizzly
is up fifty eight fifty two. Dylan Brooks has returned
from his one game suspension, but he's two of twelve
shooting for the grizz But the Warriors are so awful
from three point range it hasn't mattered yet Golden State
from long distance four of twenty seven, and the Warriors
also committed tonight eleven turnovers in just the first twenty minutes,

(33:39):
So the game is hardly out of hand, but the
Warriors continue to trail at home as we approached late
third quarter. Earlier, Boston tied up its second round series
two games apiece with a comeback win at Milwaukee one six,
one oh eight. Al Horford scored thirty points. Celtics had
trailed by eleven late in the third quarter. Monty Williams
of the Sons is the NBA's Coach of the Year.

(34:00):
In the NHL Playoffs, Florida with a comeback overtime victory
at Washington three to Pittsburgh whip the Rangers seven to
two in progress end of two. Avalanche tied to to
at Nashville, Colorado going for a four game sweep of
its first round series, and end of two periods, Calgary
Flames lead one nothing at Dallas to Major League Baseball.

(34:21):
The Angels have just picked up back to back home
runs from Mike Trout and show Hey o Tani. They
lead the race six one after six innings. Starting pitcher
Noah sinder Guard went the first five and a third
for the Halo, seven strikeouts. He through nineties seven pitches
and the White Sox have just left bases loaded. Then
going to the tenth. Guard with bases loaded. Yeah, eight,

(34:45):
eight Guardians and White Sox to the tenth. That was
a half. For those who weren't with us earlier, six
run top of the ninetenth. How they got there, it
doesn't matter. It was well from my own psycho to
a news desk, it does. This was the definition of news.
This was a man bites dog hitting if you will,

(35:06):
a two out grand slam coming up closer Liam Hendricks.
Oakland ended a nine game losing streak with a too
nothing victory at Detroit Tigers, which is four hits. Cincinnati
with two three run homers tonight and a win over
Milwaukee ten to five wins for Baltimore, the Yankees, and Pittsburgh,
which beat the Dodgers five to one. Cubs are still
shutting out the Badres in San Diego three nothing, top

(35:29):
of the seventh and to the seventh. The Phillies leads
six nothing at Seattle and finally from football, yet another
incident reported against modern day's high school football program, the
famed one in southern California. This happened late August and
it involves a police report from Santa Anna reported by
the l a times of hazing that is referred to

(35:51):
as a sexual assault claim. Now already there was the
family of a different former player who was new to
the team and something happened last November, and so they're
alleging in that lawsuit a culture of hazing and secrecy
and win at any cost attitude the Detroit Lions side
first round defensive end Aiden Hutchinson. The NFL's full schedule

(36:13):
will be released Thursday nights on FS one. Back to You,
thanks a bunch, Steve appreciated. My friend, uh the Jason
Smith Show with my best friend Mike Carmen. We got
more NBA talk on the way where the story of
the day continues to get weirder and weirder. That's next
right here, Jason and Mike Fox, Fox Sports Radio, The
Jason Smith Show with my best friend Mike Harmon, Live

(36:38):
from the Fox Sports Radio Studios, sixties six sixty Memphis,
with the lead over Golden State Buck fifteen to go
in the third quarter. Uh. Big news today the Dallas
Mavericks fan who put his hands on Chris Paul's families.
We found out a couple of fans wanted to give

(36:58):
Chris Paul's family hug at these Sons Mavericks game a
day ago, which got Chris Paul really upset. Got Chris
Paul's family upset. Uh. This fan was banned from games
until next year. And it's weird to see. It's like,
wait a minute, that's just in a few months from now.
But when you look and you see that it was

(37:19):
a kid, right, like how old is you look? I mean,
you're you're seeing a fan. You're expecting some kind of crazy,
out of control guy who's like, you know, gotta you know,
gotta got a big crazy hat on in a jersey,
and and it was a kid who could have been
more than seventeen eighteen years old. So I gotta think
that that's part of it why the decision came down
the way it was. But I'm telling you, Mike, NBA

(37:42):
players they have to take a stand on these things.
They have to take a stand because I know they
don't think their families are safe. Already, there's been a
push to have special uh seated areas for players families,
and I don't know why they haven't done that as
of yet, because this is not going anywhere right. I've
I've I've told you for a long time. People think
real life is Twitter and I can do something and

(38:04):
I can walk up and say whatever I want to
or do whatever I want to because I have this close,
this now with everybody, and so fans think I can
do this because I talked to somebody on Twitter or
on this way on social media. I can't. I can't
tell you some of the some of the worst stuff
I get on social media for kids, And I'm like,
you didn't even graduate high school yet. I'm a fifty
one year old man, and you're I'm like, wow, I mean,

(38:26):
but this is what it is. That line is it's
not even the line that's blurting where there's just no line.
I'm just walking right past us to do this. If
I'm an an NBA player, the next time someone tries
to find me because I get I get into it
with a fan, I don't pay it. I say, blank,
you try to come, try to come get it from me.
You're not protecting me, You're not protecting the families. We
see this all the time. We We've had four or

(38:47):
five instances this year of people throwing stuff at players
as they're coming off the court. Players are getting yelled
at by fans and it stuff that's over the line.
Uh yeah, yeah, you can find me, but I ain't
paying it. Good luck trying to collect it from What
are you gonna do? You're gonna just bend me. I'm
gonna sit because that's the worst thing the NBA wants
is to have this be something that uh forces a
player to have to sit down for and Adam Silver

(39:07):
suddenly has to go, oh, why am I not taking
care of this? I mean, this is this is not
gonna get better, So I'm just gonna go away. So
some stand has to be taken on this. But if
I'm the players, I take the stand first and I say, yeah,
you know what, next time I do that you find me,
I am paying it. Good luck trying to get the
money from me. I would love to see what the
Players Association does come together with as the season ends.

(39:28):
Chris Paul obviously one of the leaders throughout the years. Uh,
and this situation, I saw a bunch of us going, oh,
it's just for hugs, Like no, step the blank back, right.
You don't walk up to folks and be like, hey,
I know you like no just because they've been highlighted
on a TV show or prior game that you watched. Uh.
And in the end, I really thought there was something

(39:51):
that was gonna escalate, and obviously Paul was having a
frustrating night. Eventually falls out. There's a lot going on there.
So folks are trying to ascribe the reaction to that
that it's overreacts like there's there's a line that just
keeps getting rewritten and it's it's blurred right, the old
Friends line. You're so far past a line you can't

(40:12):
even see the line, you know, that kind of thing.
There you go. Joey Tribriani makes his way in, But
it's just that idea of fan entitlement and the players
as much as you know, you say, hey, you gotta
be smart because there's so much on the line. There's
only so far, especially when families involved before guys or

(40:33):
their security teams are going to react. Yeah, it's like
the NBA has got well eventually will bright. No, it
ain't burning out. It ain't burning out. We're in a
new world now. Things like this are gonna continue to happen.
Oh boy, Twitter, and how about a fresco Mike, It's
swollen down The Jason Smith Show with my best friend
Mike Harmon. Coming up next, we'll get back into a
big NBA hot take. It's coming your way next Fox

(40:56):
for Me.
