You're listening to Fox Sports Radio Fox Sports Radio The
Jason Smith Show with My best friend Mike Harmon Live
from the Fox Sports are Radio Studios. Where, Uh, the
first the fourth quarter has going pretty much how the
third quarter went and the second quarter went for Phoenix. Uh,

(00:47):
they are still beating up the Dallas Mavericks nine to
sixty eight, seven and a half left to go. And
uh for Phoenix, where things looked a little weird and
didn't look really great for them. Uh, they really came
on big time in the second half. We'll have more
on this game coming up in a few minutes. But

(01:07):
do we really need to I mean, we got fifteen
good minutes of basketball all night. Yeah. Well, well let's
see if the look we're gonna get to Joel beat
in a couple of minutes. They we're gonna we're gonna
have it. Don't worry. Well, okay, we're gonna have it.
I'm not, don't worry about it. But this is to
prove to you. People are gonna think, oh, this show
is on repeat. No, no, no, it's not. We have

(01:28):
another no hit or alert. We have to do it.
As Steve Disager says, it is our job. Read. Debts
of the Angels has a no hitter going to the
ninth inning. Well, they don't do that, Nanaheim. The Angels
are beating the Rays twelve to nothing, so there is

(01:49):
no more drama left in this game. But Debtmer's has
a no hitter. He is at ninety four pitches, so
I'm sure he's gonna come out. I'm sure Dave Roberts
just put on his iron Man armor to go. You
gotta take him out, man. This makes me look bad
every time that goes by. A guy stays in the
game and makes me look bad for lifting Kershaw with

(02:10):
a perfect game after seven. Uh, so it looks like
he's going to go to the ninth inning with a
no hitter. He does have a walk. Uh, he has
given up a walk. Two walls earlier in the game,
so it is a no hitter while the Angels bat
in the bottom of the eighth inning, going and I
think we could see a no hitter tonight in Major
League Baseball. My Carmen could see if only Dave Roberts

(02:31):
could teleport. Uh you know what, I don't don't don't
don't think that might not be able to happen. He might,
he might find his it's buck. Why what's buck? You're
making me look bad? Uh uh So, yeah, so we're

(02:56):
gonna have a no hitter that we're gonna be watching
going to the nine. On the plus side, Wander Franco,
one of the young superstars and and highly sought after
prospects in the game. He was signing autographs a bunch,
so he did some goodwill before the no hit bid
by the Angels transpired. So, I mean, the fans get bonus.

(03:16):
They got a lot of love from a young star.
And the Angels continue to roll. One of the great
stories of the early regular season. I mean, they're in
first place and Synder Guard is pitching well and all
of these things, and the Angels are playing well. Who's
ready to go down to Anaheim to watch a game.
Oh yeah, that's the best part. You can see a
good team and nobody goes right. You can see a

(03:37):
good thing like like Bill Plaski, our friend always says
he could drive right up to the front, walk right in,
sit down, get jersey, Mike's delivered to your seat. Baseball
in Anaheim is the best. What's funny, though, is they
still do draw over three million people a year, so
it's not like nobody's coming into the gates. You have
to pick the right games, like that's why I got
That's why I go see like the Angels and the Tigers.

(03:59):
When it's perfect, I'm gonna go see that. I'm not
gonna see the Angels and the Yankees. Everybody's going to
that one. I want to spread out. Yeah, go to
the Angels of the Tigers. I got five seats. I
got a seat on my left to see him right, come,
put my arms on. But you don't anymore. You don't
have to do that. I still vacation in Detroit. It's
just it's just said you were done with it. No,

(04:20):
it's summertime vacations and summertimes. We're only going in the summer.
We're only going in the summer. You live in California
and you summer in Detroit. That's right, That's right. Make
that makes sense America at how about a fresh and
this would be the first solo no hitter for the

(04:41):
Angels since Jared Weaver in They had a combined no
hitter a couple of years ago, but it would be
the first solo no hitter in Angels history since Jared
Weaver in two thousand and twelve. As we get ready
for the ninth inning, you have just now jing the
hell out of this guy. You know, I gotta say,

(05:02):
it's like you're an emissary of young Mr Justin Frostberg
are executive producer noted Dodgers honk uh, Well, well, now
you know I you know, I really have time because
I've been waiting to give it to to you know,
throw this on you and throw this at you. Is
now with Burman's birthday, Now I have some burmanisms that
I want to give you with I knew, I knew

(05:23):
they had to be waiting around the corner here somewhere,
and t J clearly don't be coy debt mers with
a no hitter in the ninth thning. Wow, A quick
reference with the score twelve nothing. I don't think the

(05:43):
Rays can hope for a tie Debt Mers hoping for
a no hitter. DJ. I knew you'd like those. I
knew you'd love How do I not? I got it go?
I dn't tied Debt, I got a vote in. It
was great. Yeah, I mean a line of folks would

(06:03):
get tied Debton in. But to get coy in, oh yeah, yeah, yeah,
that was the best part. That was the best part
of it. You got a rope a dope me with
that one. I've been sitting on those about a good
fifteen minutes, good minutes out of for you. So the
ninth inning just getting underway between the Angels and the Rays.
We'll keep you updated on this again. Pitches now for

(06:26):
redebtors again. Uh, no hitter in effect for the Angels. Meanwhile,
in the NBA, yes, we're watching the Phoenix Suns uh
put their stamp back on this series. But earlier tonight
we watched the Miami Heat just absolutely bludgeon the Philadelphia
seventies sixer is one five. This game was never close. Uh.

(06:49):
Miami raced out to a thirty one nineteen lead in
the first quarter. They never looked back. Joel embiad a
scary moment where he got hit in the face by
the basketball, was able to continue. It didn't matter. Uh,
he has a seventeen and five game, which is exactly
what the heat would give him any day of the week.
But still he found time to talk tonight about the

(07:11):
m v P because you know, Joel em Beat, you
know you're not gonna win the m v P. We
know Nicola Yokich is winning the m v P, and
there's nobody who has been is as obsessed with winning
the m v P like Joel em Beat is. But
if you listen to him beat here, this is from today,
he really doesn't care about the m v P. But
he's also not quite sure how he hasn't won the
m v P, what else how to do to win it?

(07:34):
And to me, it's like I just woint. He's like
he's whatever, he's all about, you know, focusing. Not that
I wasn't focused on a bigger picture, but you know,
he's really time to like really put you know, all
my energy into the bigger picture, which is the win.
The whole thing had to switch up, see things different,

(07:55):
see the bigger picture. Oh, I was thinking, well done
right there like that, How can we not talk about
m v P, win m vps all that we got? Uh?
And Bead also said, Hey, I knew weeks ago I
wasn't gonna win it. I'm not mad. It's just two
years ago. I put myself in that position. It didn't happen.
It's almost like whatever, except you hear him say how

(08:19):
unhappy he was and how surprising is what do I
need to do to win the m v P. There
is nobody that is so desperate to win the m
v P like Joel embiid No. I mean, can you
imagine Aaron Rodgers having these conferences how am I not
the m v P this year? Where Tom Brady having
how am I not the I don't know what else
have to do to be the m v P, and

(08:39):
actually having these conversations during the season while they're playing. Well, clearly,
I think I should be the m v P. I
I'm leaving the NFL and touchdowns. It's week thirteen. I
don't know how I'm not the m v P. Can
you imagine what these conversations would be in other sports?
Nobody cares so much about hardware and postseason recognition than
NBA stars, and Embad is at the top, top, top

(09:02):
of that list. Because any time you have hey, I'll
talk about the I don't know why I'm not the
m v P. I don't know. I know what else
you have to do to win the m v P.
Maybe the voters don't like me. Maybe I don't understand
I should be able to win the m v P.
He is so obsessed with it. He is so obsessed
with it when really it's an award that if you
win it, great man. If people think you're the m
v P, they vote you for it. But but it's like,

(09:23):
this is my number one thing, is winning the m
v P. I think that sixers can get eliminated from
the playoffs on a day he'd win the m v P,
and he would go, what a great day, What a
great day because I've won the m v P. I'm
the best player in the NBA. Yeah, but your team
got knocked out of the playoffs is very embarrassing. Oh,
I don't care because I have the m v P. Yeah.
I think there's there's an interesting part when it comes

(09:44):
to Embaid because the first part of his career just
went to the wayside, right and he became known as
the trust the process guy m and it was a
question of whether he was ever gonna get on the
court and be become the guy that we've seen these
last couple of years. So I think for him there's
some of that personal Hey, can I just get acknowledged

(10:05):
as the top guy after busting my ass to get
back on the court and becoming the player that I
was expected to be when I got drafted. So I
think there's a little of that edge, right, because the
winning and the longevity hasn't been there. You mentioned Brady,
You mentioned Rogers looking. Rogers does enough chirping that you
can just read between the lines and decide where you
want to jump on with him. With Brady in New England,

(10:29):
he didn't say much of anything so and and he
doesn't care about m vps because that's not legacy, right.
Legacy is is titles, And that's one thing for Joel Embiid.
As soon as you get sooner you can get to
that focus, the better, Right. The m v p s
are nice, and when they announce you at the Basketball
Hall of Fame, which look, everybody's gonna get in. That

(10:51):
has a nice long career, uh And It would be
nice to have those m v P s acknowledge, but
they're not necessary. I mean, I tell you what does
live forever. It's the winning a rank, right, even if
you only get one, you got one, and that's actually
diminished the MVP because I mean, look the the inscriptions
on autographed cards and balls and everything you're gonna do

(11:14):
in your post career is I mean, it all adds
up to some real money when it's all said and done.
But I would say for him, part of it is
the hey, acknowledge all the work I did to get
back to the top of the heap. Already? Will you
twitter and out about a Fresca Mike gets swollen dome
The Jason Smith Show with my best friend Mike Harmon

(11:34):
Joel embiid he is so obsessed with the I love
the fact that he doesn't win. I want him to do.
I want him to lose every year. I want to
be Susan Lucci in the NBA. Why can't I win
the years? Oh? I want to see it. Uh So
we'll have more NBA on the way, But right now
we need to say hi to Brian Finley. Breaking breaking

(11:57):
news from food boards here on Fox Sports Radio. Yes,
the Mets have one, yet again, the most wins in baseball.
But there is another baseball headline that has just come true. BF. Yes, Jason,
this one does not involve your Mets, sadly, but read
Debt Mergs. The rookie, the starting pitcher for the Angels,

(12:18):
has just enacted a no hitter and he is getting
congratulated by all of his teammates. He did it in
route to a twelve to nothing win, full of the raise,
and he looked at Debtmer's stat line. No one runs,
of course, just two strikeouts, one walk, So hey, if
you don't have the walk, then you know, and then

(12:41):
there's one air. But really close to that that perfect
game scenario. And the Angels as a whole, guys, back
to John Morrossy's point in the last hour, how fun
are they? They are ten games over after this win,
twenty one and eleven on the season. Uh, did you
say that he enacted a no hitter? He liked, he
enacted one. He enacted a no hitter. Alright, alright, that's good.

(13:07):
You say he just threw a no hitter. He pitched
a no hitter. No, he enacted a no hitter. Um,
so that means he made this no hitter law. He
made this proposal to law. It's now a law that
red Debts has a no hitter. Yeah, go ahead and
go ahead, like yeah, five appearances last year seven four

(13:28):
oh e er a fifth. Uh. This was his sixth
game this year. He hadn't gotten beyond the fifth in
any of his previous starts. M hm. And now he
is the youngest pitcher in Angel's history to throw a
no hitter. It was a great celebration. They were running around.
I mean they were chasing them all over the field.
They just dumped them with with gatorade on him. Here's

(13:51):
the call on Debt Mersey, twelve no hitter in Angel's history,
Brown Ball, Velasquez proms across. Truly incredible throwing the kid,
great kid, a battler, What stuff, What a moment. Something

(14:13):
he will remember the rest of his life, Gooby sounding
like Bill Walton, Yeah, remember it for the rest of
his life. This is Mike Harmon. Let me tell you,
this is an achievement that a young man will have.
He will think about it every day. He'll be taking
out the garbage and you walk outside and think I

(14:33):
pitched a no hitter. He'll say it to the mailman
as he's walking down the street, whether that mailman is
Karme alone or it's Scotty who brings the mail to
him every single day. This is what happens when you
become a baseball immortal. I like that twelve no hitter
in Angel's history. Again, the lack of strikeout punch here.

(14:53):
I love that it's defensive laden to get to this point,
to strike out two strikeouts for debts with a no hitter.
We'll continue to react. This will bring you some post
game sound from debt. Mer's just in an interview on
the field, and I didn't even know if he knew
what he was saying because everybody was jumping after him,
trying to rip his jersey off, dumping him with gatorade.

(15:15):
Oh what a big, big moment, right there. A no
hitter in Major League Baseball. Now, not quite the Mets
no hitter, the combined no hitter of a couple of
weeks ago, but still this is pretty good. Get out
Twitter and out about a fresca. Mike gets swollen down

year I'll read debtmer throw and no hitter eleventh career start.
We got another no hitter, I mean not the Mets
no hitter, not quite Yeah, it is real. They combined
no hitters are nice. They just don't resonate like the
like the ones do when the guy does it all himself.

(17:28):
They just And then you get to go back in
the way back machine and and seeing great footage of
no One Ryan Dustin people come on. Where those cool
and the coolest hats ever that had the halo on top.
That's true, that's true. Those were those were cool hats.
I liked those with the with the big halo all
the way around the outside. When we moved to Southern California,

(17:49):
where we kind of bounced around a little bit one
and move back here to join Fox sports dot Com
and and to start my uh well, my origins with
Fox Sports Radio. I had a box of stuff that
went missing off one of our moving trucks, which included
some of my classic hats and jerseys and some other
things that had had for different bits and collectibles, and

(18:12):
that Angel's hat was one of those pieces. I'm still
salty about it all these usually later it's a great hat.
Is Hey, there's hats. I think about that. I go,
oh my god, I wish I still had that. I
had a tie, had a fitted title AST hat. I
can't leave the number of times I think about this hat.
I had a fiddled, fitted title AST hat made by

(18:32):
the game, and I don't know whatever happened to it.
And I'm like, oh my god, that hat was so great.
It was blue with the white letter Go what happened
to that hat? It was such a great hat. Has
know what happened to it? Pan threw it out? Uh No,
I think I probably left it somewhere. You know, since
I started shaving my head, like you know, fifteen eighteen
years ago, the number of times I have gone somewhere
and you know, taking my hat off and then left

(18:54):
and left the hat there, and so many times because
when I had when I had hair, and I put
the hat and I'd understand, Oh, I gotta keep the
because my hair is all messy. Okay, I gotta Oh
I had a hat right here. But now that I
don't want to take my hat off, I go someplace,
I'm like, oh, yeah, I'm gonna take the hat off.
They're like, oh, where's my hat? I forgot? It happens
to me all the time. See that's why when you
wear jaunty hats that cost you a little more than

(19:14):
just the close out prices, you don't forget those hats.
But there's an investment in the look and in the
hat itself. UH. The Jason Smith Show with Mike Harmon
live from the Fox Sports Radio Studios. It is now
over mercifully in Phoenix. It is over the Sun's beat

(19:35):
the Mavericks one ten to eighty. A complete demolition of
Dallas from the second quarter on UH. Devin Booker twenty
eight points on the night, DeAndre Ayton was twenty and nine,
Chris Paul seven points. Tennisis in thirty five minutes. Now,
Luckily they didn't need Chris Paul tonight because, like I said,

(19:55):
it was a big night from from Devon Booker. But
this is the one big cern that I've said about
the Suns, because I told you, look, the Sons are
gonna wind up being a team that just blows by everybody. Right.
I'm surprised this series is as close with the Dallas Mavericks,
but I expect them to win the series in the
next game. Uh. My big thing was as Chris Paul
gonna hit the wall, Right, That's the one thing because

(20:16):
they've been relying on him a lot, and he's older
now that he's thirty seven, and how much is he
going to be able to have left in the tank
as the playoffs go on and on and tonight twenty
three minutes, five points. He has not been very dynamic
in this series. He's had one really good game, right,
he had a he had a really good game in

(20:37):
in in Game two. But the other games have not
been that great, you know, And the last two games
he's total twelve points. You know, it's not been a
great series for him. And that's my one fear, is
is he hitting the wall. Is this happening for Chris Paul,
Because if he is, that's that's something that the Suns
now have to adjust mid playoffs on because I thought

(20:58):
going in they were so well equipped because they had
that they had to deal with Chris Paul last year,
and and and and Chris Paul hit the wall in
the middle of the NBA Finals, right, finally had to
play too much basketball and he was done. Um Okay,
now they've learned how to do it without him. They're
relying more on Devin Booker, which is what you should do.
But as the playoffs have started, Yeah, alright, the Sons

(21:20):
are really relying on Chris Paul a lot more. And
he had an incredible UH series against New Orleans and
he was terrific. And now this series has been oh,
not playing the same number of minutes, but just not
quite as good. And he has not been a reason
at all, UH for them why why they were Like
I said, he's had one good game. The rest of
it has been he's just kind of been okay. He's

(21:42):
just kind of been there. And if this is the
Chris Paul you're gonna get, it's gonna be really hard
for the Sons. To win. I thought, you got you
got Chris Paul and and you can cut it. You
can keep his minutes down and you're not gonna need
to rely on him as much. He's have a lot
left in the tank for the end of the playoffs,
and now it doesn't kind of look like it's headed
that way. That's my one concern for the Sons, and
it's kind of coming out right now with him. Yeah.

(22:02):
I mean, you look at the last three games, twelve points,
five points, seven points, rebound totals are down. Did have
his double digit assists tonight. That's the first double digit
assist games since April against New Orleans. So you had
a streak of five straight without But I think this
was a game we also got some great contributions he

(22:25):
didn't need, especially in the second half Jason, right as
we chronicled, it's like you didn't need huge output from him.
He was still out there being an agitator, uh, drawing
charges a couple of which I really at some point
it's like, can we call the flop? I mean, it's
just a joke, Like Luca got called for something where
he was already falling backwards, like he was in a

(22:46):
w w e ring and gets to the charge call
and it's all finding good. But I don't think they
needed him to try to take over. And certainly Devin
Booker had his way, had a good first quarter, and
then as the second half war on, he and DeAndre
Ayton did a lot of the work. He saw some
good work off the bench as well. So I'm not

(23:08):
as concerned because I think I think some of these
just steal from our buddy Rick Buker, where we're some
Lebron James minutes today. So while it has a thirty
five minutes total, I don't know there are thirty five
hard minutes, nor that did he need to be the
leader and the guy with the ball in his hand
all the time. So I'll take it with a grain

(23:28):
of salt. Your concern is noted, and and certainly there Hey,
I've been watching a lot of law in order. Few
good men like you're concerned has noted what what? What
he tells? I strenuously object Your concerned has noted it. No,
you're concerned for the Phoenix suns is noted. I just
say they they've got other guys that step up, especially

(23:50):
as this game got out of sorts. Chris Paul just
kind of got out of the way, and he did.
He did only have to play thirty five minutes, and
even those, I mean there's probably ten of the is
where he was just kind of standing around watching stuff happen,
so I didn't didn't need to step up. I know
there's a lot of chatter about his disappearing. It's like
they won by third, Like what what is? I don't

(24:12):
need a big stat line tonight from him to convince
me that that things are either going poorly or that
he's okay for now. Just take a deep breath and
uh wait to see how this one plays out. But
a really disappointing effort from the Mavericks after an inspired
fifteen sixteen minutes right, they started first quarter was good,

(24:34):
beginning of the second quarters like all right, and then
the the end of the first half they just started
to get run over. Yeah, that's like me when I
play golf, Like for the first nine holes, I'm good.
Then I'm just done. I'll let you know what. I'm tired.
I'm not Why are you playing so bad? Because I
don't care. I want to go home. I played nine holes.
I'm done. I'm not. I'm not out here to walk
eighteen holes. Now I'm done, I'm hot, I got stuff
to do. My mind is wandering. I've been away from

(24:56):
home for two and a half hours. Uh, now I'm done.
I'm done. I'll start out great, but and I'm alway,
I'm never gonna finish great about being back home after
two and a half hour. No, no no, no, not not
about it's it's it's more like, because when I play
with my dad, right, that this is how it goes.
He always wants to play away from Walter Right. No, no, no,
And I love playing with my dad. But you know,
I have stuff to do during the day, and you

(25:16):
know I have I have, you know, I gotta I
gotta either pick up Zoe from school, and we have
either soccer practice or softball practice or something going on.
And I have to prep for the show and do
a bunch of different things, and you know, do normal
dad and husband stuff. My dad is just yeah, he's
on easy Street man. He's been retired for years. And
we go play and I go, all right, I'm good

(25:36):
for nine, and he stays and plays the last nine.
It's like, you're not gonna stay go No, Dad, It's
it's one thirty. I gotta, I gotta, I gotta start
doing stuff to do. Oh man, yeah, I've been. I've been.
When I say away from home, I mean I've been
out of pocket now for like two and a half
three hours in the day, and I got stuff that's
piling up on me. Right, I gotta, I gotta, I
gotta do some things here since the stuff he's gonna
need to get done, whether I play nine holes or

(25:58):
eighteen holes. But also physically I'm tired. I'm like, you
know what, I'm I've played nine this has been fun.
I got my I've gotten my fill of it, and
now I'm ready. I'm ready to be done. I'm ready
to go on. And like I said, my mind starts
wandering and I'm thinking about other things I gotta do,
and you know, checking my phone, what am I missing?
What's happened the last hour or so in sports and
all this stuff. So yeah, just like the Mavericks, I'll

(26:18):
start out really good. I'll start I'll start out, but
then yeah, then you can kind of count on the
fact that, Okay, it's really gonna take a dive at
some point. And that was tonight and that's just like
I said me playing golf Mavericks tonight, same thing. No,
it's pretty good. Start shooting erratically. Oh yeah, your effort
on the follow ups. You know, you're offensive and defensive,

(26:39):
rebounding maybe uh, you know, screens and whatever. You get
a little bit lazy for you. It's you know, the
tenth the eleventh hole, you're done. My yeah, my eye
yourself out. Yeah, my irons get really lazy. I start
fading the ball way too much because I'm not because
I'm getting a little tired. That's kind of what happens.
I'll still give you something great off the tea and
I'll put okay, But when I get tied, boy, my

(27:01):
my middle liars just like it's like, oh, fade to
the right, fade to the right, fade. It happened. I
know I'm tired. I'm done. There. You got that reminds me.
I gotta send a message to corporate to see if
we're gonna get one of those big events again for October.
Oh yeah, that golf event was fun last time before COVID.
That was funny, fun thing. We should get that back.
We got more coming up in ninety seconds, including something

(27:22):
I hope the NBA is really proud of, which means
it's it's something not good. But first, be sure to
catch live editions of The Jason Smith Show with Mike
Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven pm Pacific. Uh.
And yes, really quick, before we get into the John
Rand story, rest in peace Bob Lanier, who even if
you you don't remember his career and a great career

(27:44):
he had with the Pistons. I mean, the line is
going to stay for eternity from airplane when cream up
utcher Bar tells the kid, tell your old man to
try Dragon Walton and Lanier up and down the court
for forty eight minutes career double double in his long
NBA career in nineteen seventy to nine eight three Detroit

(28:07):
and Milwaukee twenty points, ten boards a game, averaging about
thirty three and a half minutes. Yeah, legend, uh for
fourteen seasons. But yes, the the line from airplane, particularly
as we finished winning time, it all pulls together because
I think we got a good spotlight on some of
those players and getting a little run of people going
into the back stories. Uh. And and looking at some

(28:30):
of those players that are mentioned there, and certainly for
Bob Lanier. Uh, we've already had that line run forever
for the next couple of days. Attribute to the player,
the man, and and certainly his impact. Well I thought
he was in the fishing save Pittsburgh. Oh yeah, yeah, yeah,

(28:51):
look he's in. You know, had his number retired by
two different teams. Just just some kind of career. Bob
Lanier passed away at the age of seventy three. Now,
really quick about John Morant because he is likely out
for the playoffs, which is probably gonna be one more
game with a bone bruise suffered in their defeat on
Saturday at the hands of the Golden State Warriors. And

(29:12):
all I can say is I hope the NBA is
happy because they decide to not put their foot down
and stop chippy play from going on in this series.
After a ridiculously dirty play early on when Gary Payton
is knocked out for the playoffs because of Dylan Brooks
coming from behind with one of the dirtiest plays you
could possibly see. Uh, that didn't stop chippy play. And

(29:35):
you know that's gonna continue. You know, teams are gonna
be upset, They're gonna go into a game with a
certain mindset and what happens. You get a play like
what happened to John Morant on Saturday, where Jordan Pool
wrenches his knee back and now he's out for the
rest of the playoffs. Now, is this something that happened
on that play his bone bruises injury? Maybe maybe it

(29:56):
happened on a possession before. It certainly didn't help matters.
But just the fact that you had this happen when
it didn't need to happen. Had the NBA done something
when they first could have put their foot down, and
today you know what, all right, Yeah, you lost Gary
Payton for the series. This is gonna be a multiple
game suspension for Dylan Brooks. It's what it's got to be. No,

(30:17):
they biff that by giving the game, so the Warriors
are pissed, and now Jordan Pool doesn't get any suspension,
and now John Morand is out for the playoffs. Watch out,
watch out for the next game. Because the NBA has
decided we don't need to make sure that this series
isn't chippy. I'm telling you, I warned you and said
it was coming after the Dylan Brooks play. Because the

(30:38):
NBA didn't do anything, it happened to John morand guess
what's gonna happen again because the NBA has decided, Yeah,
we're gonna stick our head in this hand on stuff
like this. I don't get it. It's an epic failed
by the NBA. Well, we've talked about it a lot. Game.
The game is that there's no rhyme or reason or
consistency into the level of contact and what it means
and how it's adjudicated. Right, a lot of reviews at

(30:58):
the side table, but there there's no one size fits all.
And we get that to a degree. But when you
haven't agreed just playing like you did with Dylan Brooks,
it's the all right, let's all get together. We've only
got so many teams. Get everybody on a conference call,
and and this is it. We're not having anymore. You've
got eight all stars that have already missed at least
one game, right, that was the stat Steve did Seger

(31:20):
gave us last night. And you're only in the second round.
You haven't finished the second round yet, so you know,
to have all of those frequent occurrences. And with John
Morant one of your games, suit and rising stars and
guy everybody's talking about to have it even come into
question that that play is the thing that puts him
on the shelf. Yeah, the NBA certainly has a problem

(31:42):
in that regard Twitter. And how about a fresca Mike
gets swollen down The Jason Smith Show with My best
friend Mike Harmon. Way to go, NBA, guys are getting hurt.
It's all your fault. Nice job. But coming up next,
speaking of the NBA, We're gonna play a game that
it's just as difficult and as fun as the Magic
Johnson Twitter game. Because let's go and you have to

(32:04):
get it done right. That's coming up next right here. Oh,
by the way, the King is now up four too
over Edmonton. They have just scored in a power play
midway through the third period there, so the Kings on
their way. On their way also is a great NBA game,
Keep it right here. Fox. Be sure to catch live
editions of The Jason Smith Show with Mike Harmon weekdays
at ten pm Eastern seven pm Pacific on Fox Sports

(32:27):
Radio and the I Heart Radio app Fox Sports Radio.
The Jason Smith Show with My best friend Mike Harmon. Oh,
the night in the NBA is over. We had a
couple of big time blowout wins. So let's celebrate that
with something a little bit more fun. Let's go The
official odds came out for many coaches to be the

(32:52):
next head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers. So in
a game I like to call, can I be the
Lakers had coach? I'm gonna give you somebody, and your
job is to tell me if there are odds on
this person to be the next Lakers head coach, or
if it's somebody had just made up and there's no
odds on them, Like playing this game myself. Mike Harmon,

(33:16):
Alex Tisher, Brian Fenley, Brandon Trueth, our producer. Are you
guys ready to go? Let's get it on born ready?
Mick Cronin? Are there odds on Mick Cronin to be
the next Lakers head coach? U c l a Los
Angeles Lakers not not not a far jump? Is Are

(33:37):
there real odds on him? No? No, okay, make is
one of the best guys out there. Love him, but
I don't think he's out there for the Laker job. No, alright, No,
Thronan sounds like a Marvel superhero, So I'm gonna say no,

(33:58):
there are That makes no sense, but there, yes, Cronin
just like everything else is Cronan like we're doing Cronos.
That's closed. Could be his cousin going into Percy Jackson world.
There are no odds on Nick Crow John Calipari. Are

(34:20):
there odds on John Calipari being the next Lakers head coach?
A little longer odds than maybe fifteen years ago? But sure?
Why not? Okay, I'm going now, all right, what does
say no no from Brandon? Absolutely he's going to be
the coach. Take Alex t he is the fun I

(34:44):
mean the coach at one. There are odds on remember this,
he's going to be the coach? Okay, Becky Hammond? Are
there odds on Becky Hammond being the x Lakers head
a soccer player? Uh No, that's Becky Soerbund. Are their

(35:05):
odds on Becky soerbrun being the next time Becky Hammond?
Are their odds on Becky Hammond? Okay? Yes, there definitely is. Okay,
I'm gonna say no because didn't she just take a
w NBA job. Doesn't matter, it's the Lakers, doesn't matter. Okay,

(35:26):
Brandon's in the right. I'm going three for three. It's
a no. There are six to one odds on Becky
Hammon Lakers head coach Sister Jean. Are their odds on
consistently they do? They do? Hey, so little divine intervention?

(35:49):
The answers, No, but I digg, I don't think there's
fun thousand to one, five million to one odds. Okay, okay, no,
but she could be in the running for the Saints head.
I think he's got to do that in the Berman voice,
but of the Saints clearly. No, No, there are no
odds on Sister Jean being the next head. Yeah. I

(36:11):
was gonna say no, so I'll take that win. Are
there odds on Stan or Jeff Van Gundy? Are either
of the Van are the odds? Yeah? Definitely one or both?
One or one. I'm gonna go Jeff. They're both. They're

(36:31):
both going to be co head coaches for one team. Yes,
vice head coach Stan Van Gundy Jeff Van Gundy are
at forty and the next Lakers head coach will be
the assistant regional coach, assistant assistant to the regional coach. Okay.

(36:52):
David Fizdale, David Fizdale, Sure, okay, nah, Okay, he's got
southern California roots. Yeah, I'm going yes. Now you're trying
to play right now, Jay, there's no way he's on
there at twelve to one, David Fifth, heale one of

(37:15):
the shorter odds guys. At twelve and one. That's one
of the favorites right there, alright, real, real fast. Last one.
Jim Beheim. Yeah, Jim Behi Yes, yes, daddy No, there
are no odds. I saw a guy pull a Buddy
Beheim autograph out of a pack and he cursed. We

(37:37):
get back into a big story in the NBA. Next Fox,
Daddy be
