(00:23):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radiote. Greetings and welcome inside.
Happy top gun Eve. Oh my goodness, it's top gun
even my carmon, it's almost there. It's top gunn. You're
almost share. So it's all top gun music all night
tonight on the show. It's top gun Eve. Oh wait,

(00:48):
it's gonna be all top gun music like Alexis and
I'm sorry. You know it has to be top gun music.
It's no, it has to be. Listen, dude, you can't
find your way to work the last couple of days.
You show up tonight, No, just randomly, oh, work for
four hours? No, you play some top gun music. You
keep this up, will be three hours? Okay, you can
explain to our bosses. Then why there's dead air From

(01:09):
eleven there is a group called Top guns g u
N with a capital Z. Why do think ultimate eighties
rock tribute band? Oh okay, I thought that was a
movie like Late Night on Showtime Extreme. Well, I mean
we could probably get one written, acted and produced by
the end of the week. Do you think there's a
top gun adult film? There's got to be, right, Oh,

(01:31):
I got to imagine. Okay, all right, okay, I'm just
I'm just I'm saying. I mean, I mean there must be, right,
I mean, they're on his bandits at eighteen plus, so
I don't know tight shirts already looking forward. Wait a minute,
I can find one of those. Hang on a second,
here we go. Let's just make sure these are work computers,
work computers. Plenty of parody films to be had out there,

(01:53):
a lot of cause playing as it were. And tomorrow night,
I mean, they'll all meet up at theaters. And who's
to say you're not a little randy and riled up
as you finish the theater experience and feeling like you
need to need for speed right about that? And you
know what I'm saying. Alright, Alright, Kelly McGillis is gonna
chase me in that sweet car, and I'm gonna pull

(02:14):
over and she's gonna say I've fallen for you, and
then we're gonna kids and Berlin is gonna play and
Doom Doom, Doom Doo Do do Do do Yeah. But
anytime I hear that, I think about the guy trying
to steal money and Oceans eleven you got grabbed, they conquered. See,
that's your fault. Do you have a do you have
the wrong memory for that? I have water memory for
that song. It's a better movie. It's one maps. So

(02:36):
you stopped us Oceans eleven. Stop. That's not even a
hot take. That's just a wrong take. No, wrong, categorically
wrong at swallow and don't matter. How about a fresca?
Tell him, Mr Smith, how wrong he is? Right? Okay, okay,
I get first of all, Top Gun better than Oceans eleven. Secondly,

(02:56):
not even seeing it yet, I know Top Gun Maverick
is better than Oceans twelve without even seeing it. I
know that's the case. See Ocean's twelve has grown on me.
Oh over the years. It's like the old Star Wars
movies that are now old and new again with Hayden
Christensen coming back one of those years later that like
when an album gets widely tanked by fans that twenty

(03:17):
years later you say, ah, you know, go back and listen.
It's an absolute masterpiece. It's all that I pay attention
to now. It's unbelievable. You know, waterd was panned when
it came out, but now water World might be the
greatest cinematic achievement. And the Water World wasn't bad, and
people tried to make fun of it and they can
all beat it. Uh, And then they tried to do
the lost money and blah blah blah. Well they got

(03:38):
hit by natural disasters and it still did money worldwide,
So beat it on that part two. I know you
were referring to Chinese democracy, which I stand for at
the time, and I still stand by it. No, I
thought Chinese democracy was fine. I'm not saying I'm thinking
more like like Wilco or Weezer or one of those.
By why I have to care about either, know what?

(04:00):
The look They're a band that I can literally say
right now that I didn't walk across the street to
see because they just played Beach Life in Redondo Beach
and I literally would have had to cross one major
street to see them, and I didn't bother. I just
had to really literally cross the street. Literally they had

(04:21):
to cross PC. There was a see Weezer, and as
they didn't bother, he was at the door. He was
yelling at me, Hey, you and the purple come on over,
we can get you in. And you just shook your
head and said, no, I'm gonna walk the dog instead.
When you're don come back. And that's what it was now.
I I listened to some of the bands on the

(04:41):
undercard as I walked the dog. That was kind of fun.
I did. Did I stay out there with the dog
to hear Weezard? No? No, I didn't not stay out.
I didn't stay I wouldn't stay out with my dog
to hear I wasn't even waiting for my dog to
do his business to hear you. Lane, you gotta finish.
I'm getting hassled by a guy that wants me to

(05:02):
come in and see Wheezer. Come on, Finish, finish, finish, finish.
And he's there with the scooper and the paper and
the guys. I got tickets going here. I got tickets you.
I got special animal tickets. Your dog and can sit
up in the balcony with the other dogs. I got
all of this for you. It's fine, you have it. Yep,
literally did not walk across. If you're a valued customer,

match limitations they do apply. Well, things have got a
little interesting. And he started the third quarter Game five
Celtics and the Heat tied at two games apiece. Was
a Heat lead at halftime, and the Celtics will come

(05:44):
out on a big run to start. They now lead
the Heat forty seven forty six. And yes, because we
knew it was gonna go like this. The two leading
scorers for the Celtics are Al Horford and Derek White. Yes,
not Jayson Tatum and Jalen Brown. No, it's been a
bad day for Jayson Tatum, two out of ten from
the floor. Bad night for Jalen Brown. The two of

(06:04):
them combined are five for twenty. No, no, no, that's
who's carrying the Celtics right now against the Heat. But
the Heater, led by Jimmy Butler, No, no, no, bam
Adebaio the only Heat player in double figures with ten
exactly how we thought this was gonna go? Is how
it's going in Game five? Well, I mean, it's good
to see bam Adebayo decided he wanted to play again,
So that's good. That's good for the Heat that that

(06:26):
he's showing up at the glass and on the defensive
end of things, So that's good. But three points shooting
cold Bowl teams struggling would be the kind way Jason
Tatum a lot of questions going back to the shoulders
slash next slash spine question of the last couple of
games on the court, but grossly ineffective to this point

(06:49):
again with all nods and celebrations to Al Horford keeping
them in the game. Twitter at how about a fresca?
Mike gets swollen down the Jason Smith Show of Mike Carmon.
So at least it's close game. But it's close, right,
it's Aysthetically, it's it's gross ROAs not yeah, it definitely

(07:10):
is not no, no, no no, but but it's close. At
least it's that's all you need, that's all It's got
a twenty point blowout at this point, it's all the
NBA quietly behind the scenes. Guarden, Yes, that's like saying
the hell out of each other. It's like pizza. This
pizza is really bad. Yeah, but it's here and we're
eating it. It's not in the car on the way.
We're eating it, and Okay, so that's fine. If it

(07:32):
wasn't here, be upset. But it's here and we're eating it,
so it can't be that bad. That's what a close
game is. In the NBAU. Meanwhile, a big NFL headline
that kind of jumped on us today and not only
did we see it jump on us, now the headlines
over early this afternoon it broke Adam Schefter of ESPN
reporting that Colin Kaepernick was getting a workout with the

(07:53):
Las Vegas Raiders, is gonna be sometime this week. And
then we find out the workout was today and it's happened,
and Colin Kaepernick has worked out for the Las Vegas Raiders. Kaepernick,
who hasn't been in the league in six years us now,
I say allegedly attempting to come back. Because here's where
I am on the Kaepernick story. I'm just really met
on it now because we've had this happen so many times.

(08:15):
Is he coming back? Is he not? Is he gonna
get signed? Is he not? I mean this is one
of those where when he actually signs a contract, Okay,
that then let me know and then we can really
really dig into it, because right now I'm just thinking
maybe the Raiders were blinded by Hey, we could sell
so much merch if we signed him. Man, if we
if we signed Colin Kaepernick and he holds up that

(08:36):
seven Vegas Raiders jersey, suddenly every third person in the
United States to be wearing a Colin Kaepernick Raiders jersey
and we haven't done about it. We'll make all that
money on merch. It doesn't even matter if he makes
it to the season. Just put him on the roster
so we can have a jersey made. Then if we
don't want him anymore, we can cut him. But the
jersey is out there and people are gonna have it.
Maybe it was done just for the merch. Maybe just

(08:58):
for the merch. Mike you know, is crazy as some
might make that seem. And and they're gonna call you
all sorts of names. And how about a Frraska right now? Uh?
And that's all finding good. And you see some of
the folks predictably on their social media accounts. I won't
even dignify them by reading them, uh standing and starting
to list off all the quarterbacks Kaepernick would be better than.

(09:21):
And maybe he would maybe maybe best some of them,
maybe wouldn't. But your point about the financial side of
it shouldn't be so readily dismissed by people. And I
don't mean it in the callous way of all right,
it's it's just the you know, cash grab with no
regard to what he can do as an athlete. I

(09:43):
would suspect, you know, as we've seen, you know, if
you get creative, you know, you can have a second
quarterback on your roster for certain things that maybe your
starter can't do physically and can't place here, they can't make.
Maybe there's something to that. But we've talked a lot
about the Raider Is in in numerous management issues, not

(10:04):
to mention that John Gruden case that's still swirling about them,
but from a financial management perspective, the number of people
that have been let go general counsel and other people
within the organization, and there's been a lot of question
about the financial management of this squad, so to that
end where you would be able to not not that

(10:24):
they're selling having trouble selling seats right there. Their games
are the highest on the secondary market in terms of
percentages and mark up and all that stuff when you
start looking at stub hub in the other ways you
find your tickets. But just to the idea of merchandizing
and availability within the grade of Las Vegas area to

(10:47):
try to capitalize on his arrival to the team. Absolutely
that means an awful lot of money to the brand
and and to their their financial woes with We've been
want wondering for years how flush Mark Davis is because
it's always been stated as an owner and again he's
not the only owner of the team, but as the

(11:09):
principal owner. You know, he's guy like the Spanos family
where you're saying they're not flush with cash and need
infusions elsewhere. Well, so now this is one of those questions, uh,
for the for the Raiders, like what what's what are
your true motivations here? After all this time, I just
think about that silver and black Kaepernick seven jersey. Everybody

(11:32):
would wear one. I really all that, you know, if
if if you're if you're an NFL jersey, and even
people who aren't NFL jersey people would would buy a
Colin Kaepernick jersey and wear it. You'd see you'd see
it show up when people were on TV doing interviews,
you would see it everywhere. It would be the fact,
it would be the biggest selling jersey in the world,

(11:52):
bar none. Bigger than lebron with the Lakers, Bigger than
Bryce Harper with the Phillies, Bigger than Peter Alonzo with
the Mets, Bigger than Jacob degre On with the Mets,
Bigger than Max Scherzer with the Mets, bigger than j D.
Davis with the Men, Bigger than anything, I mean, bigger
than Brady with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. If Brady went
to the Miami Dolphins, it would be the biggest selling
jersey in the world right away. And it wouldn't even

(12:14):
be close. It would be here's a number of people
buying a Kaepernick jersey, and here's that little sliver of
pie of people buying other jerseys. That's how that's how
it would look. It would it would be It would
be stunning how many people would run to fanatics right
dot com right away and would sit there and go,
you know, I have an email coming to me. When
Fanatics has the Kaepernick jersey and stock and I'm getting it.
People would get on a waitlist to get a Colin

(12:35):
Kaepernick jersey. They would sit and I gotta get it,
gotta get it. Some people would say, screw it, I
don't want to wait that long. I'm gonna have my
own custom made right now. It's five dred and forty
nine dollars. I don't care. I'm getting at seven Kaepernick.
I'm doing it. That's that food would be everywhere. The jerseys,
the jerseys, the T shirts, the caricature T shirts, all

(12:56):
of that would be printed as fast as they could
get machines. How they might fill the entire field at
Alleged Stadium to try to pump out as many as
they could to get that machine rolling. But uh it,
and folks, you know, there's a there's a little tongue
in cheek to it, but there there's a lot of
truth to it. And again it's the larger picture when

(13:18):
we look at some of the questions being raised about
how the Raiders have been managed here in in the
last couple of years and where where they need to
shore things up. Not to mention from the legal standpoint,
but right now from the league standpoint, they're looking around
and they've got a lot owners with issues that they

(13:38):
have to address. We've talked about Daniel Snyder. Obviously, you
go to to Ross down in in Miami. You've had
issues with Houston and trying to figure that out. You've
got a transfer of ownership going to happen in Denver,
and then you have Las Vegas. You've got them there,
and now you still have questions of how steady the

(13:58):
ground is under neat them and how they're operating within
those hallways. You know, still from some allegations relying on
heavy paper trails as opposed to computerizing things. Hey can
you go get me the files from February And the
guy comes walking through with a giant flatbed full of

(14:19):
stuff from so uh, you know, and and I and
I say that not not even in jest. I mean,
that's been some of the reports that are out there
in various media sources trying to determine exactly where they're
at as an organization. And this would certainly help in
the short term transference of funds back into general accounts, Twitter,

(14:41):
and how about a Fresco Mike gets swollen Dome the
Jason Smith Show with my best friend Mike Harman. Just
think that's how fast Kaepernick would rock it to the top.
Just that fast he's signing boom it would be there

(15:24):
of Boston in Miami, it's a close game with five
and a half to go in the second quarter. One
of the Western Conference Finals teams has a big problem
that we have to talk about that's coming up next
right here. Jason and Mike Fox. Be sure to catch
live editions of The Jason Smith Show with Mike harmon
weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven pm Pacific. This was

(15:45):
supposed to be a top gun song and Tom Cruise,
but Ty Shirt can't do this anymore. We're taking resumes
because he's gonna be fired. It's been real. Come knock

my man, I'll give you a job Fox Sports Radio.
I'm excited because it's top gunning Fox Sports Radio, The

Two and a half to go in the third quarter,
and uh, this is if you if you've never watched

(16:52):
an NBA game, and you would say Hey, what did
the NBA used to be like in the nineties, Well,
that's what we have right now. Self takes lead the
heat fifty nine to fifty six. Neither team is shooting well,
neither team is hitting threes. Uh. It is just that
kind of night somehow the heat or within three despite
the fact there are five for thirty three from three

(17:15):
point range. Of either team gets to a hundred, it
would be a miracle. This is gonna be one of
those eight nine five finals where you go, oh boy, okay,
at least it's close, because you have that at least
it's close. Oh no, this is terrible on all the levels.
Like even he's saying the at least it's close, I
mean that. That is really the only thing this game

(17:37):
has going for. It's right, you've got some statistical bilestones,
all right, at a bio is a double double, and
you look at Jimmy Butler, he's at least creating uh
in the assist column. But is it has just been awful.
Jayson Tatum eleven seven and seven, Hey, hey, get to
a triple double. Yeah, but it's still on the back

(17:58):
of Al Horford to make it all happened. Marcus Smart
obviously laboring with his injury. Tatum will await further description
of where he's at. Jimmy Butler's banged up. We knew
that p J. Tucker and Kyle Lowry. Neither of those
guys was near to a particularly Kyle Lowry. You got
Vanilla Ice, who everybody keeps sending me, uh pictures of snow.

(18:22):
So I just want to keep singing Informer the whole night.
So we got that going on. Your guy, Duncan Robinson,
he's got eight points off the bench, Victor ol Oladipo,
who they've been depending on, he's only got three. And
Gabe Vincent, Yes, Gabe Vincent tied for the lead uh
in scoring for the for the heat, he's got ten.

(18:45):
Uh yeah, two and a half to go. And oh,
we just had a team get to sixty. Oh, the
Celtics are at sixty breaking news, breaking news, I Boughton,
Celtics are at sixty points. Oh my goodness, we're here.
Uh So we'll keep you up the end on this game.
But again, remember the vast majority of this game is
not going to matter if it's close at the end.

(19:06):
We're just gonna talk about the last minute anyway. So
it's all. It just needs to be closed. That's all
that matters. Close at the end, We're good, that's all. Yeah.
I need it within two or three possessions at the end,
that's it, all right, No, no, no, we need more
than that, man, that's I mean. We even We've had
a lot of craptastic twenty point blowouts in the NBA.
You can give us one now. If this game is
going to be the film, it's a nail fighter to

(19:28):
where it's decided in those final seconds. And this is
gonna be seventy seven. I want a game winning shot
with a couple of seconds left, alright, if we're getting
to eighties should be the big clue for these teams.
And the Celtics do have four guys and double figures already, Yes,
they do what we're trying to already that's the fourth quarter.
Well yeah, okay, yeah, four guys a double boy. I'm

(19:50):
selling it as hard as I can. What do you want?
I'm doing their dirty work. I'm doing the dirty work
of Fox Sports Radio as a nat A broadcasting telling
you this game is important, well, leaving it all on
the line, all the other cliches I could possibly manage

(20:11):
in the next thirty second. Do you got any more?
Are you're done? You're done? You're good. I think I left.
I I really gave it all. I had gave it
all right, very good, all right, nice and and God
willing tomorrow. Uh you know, we'll get back at it tomorrow.
We'll have another opportunity for greatness. Okay, very well, I
can ask for as a chance, all those good things,

(20:32):
all those good things. Uh. So we'll have more on
this game as it continues to unfold. Celtics with a
six point lead now over the Heat with a minute
a little under a minute a half to go in
the third quarter. But it's time to address the elephant
in the room. The Golden State Warriors are up three
games to one over the Dallas Mavericks and likely they're
going to close it out tomorrow night, back at home.

(20:53):
And it doesn't seem like they're in a lot of trouble.
You know, eventually a team is gonna come back from
down three, esip, Is it gonna be this Mavericks team.
This Mavericks team is not a great team. They are
just the fact they're here is a testament to how
good Luka dantach is, this is not a great team, um.
But the Warriors going forward, they have a Clay Thompson

(21:15):
problem and and and it's not being addressed, but they
have a problem. He is wildly inconsistent because he's a
combination of hitting the wall, coming back from all the
basketball he's played after being away for two years, and
he's not the same dynamic player that he was. Once
in a while, he can give you a big game
game six Clay. We had it in the lab. Why

(21:37):
that was. That was a great game from Clay Thompson.
But he is not the same dynamic guy that he
was before the injury. And still the Warriors rely on
him way too much. Right You've seen him now start
off games with no points at halftime and suddenly the
Warriors have to dig themselves out from from a big hole.
And then Clay will you know, score like ten or
twelve in the second half and make it look like

(21:57):
it's respectable game. But he's not the same player. His
points per game are down big time every round. Of
the players fifteen points a game in this round. And
he's he's the number two guy on the team. He's
got Steph and Clay Steph is doing his part right.
He's points a game, Clays at fifteen a game, and
every round in the playoffs he has scored less and less.

(22:17):
He has been less and less effective, having more rough
games as the playoffs have gone. And again part of
it is he's coming back from not playing any basketball
the last two years and he was playing way too
many minutes that he was right away. He started out
of twenty minutes and got ramped up to thirty within
a couple of weeks. It's way too much and you
have to get that, all right. At some point Clay
Thompson is hit in the wall. But if you're Steve Kerr,

(22:39):
you're saying, well, he's playing so well. Now he's doing well, Well,
why do I gotta cut it back? Now? This is
where you go, maybe I should have done that. They
have a Clay Thompson problem alright, because he's not going
to be the same guy going forward and for the
for the short term, it would be revolutionary and probably
for the best if Steve Kerr would bring Clay off
the bench and it's Jordan Pool and a younger lineup

(23:02):
playing a lot of minutes. Because going to that younger
lineup if you're the Warriors, you're seeing the young guys
getting more minutes over the course of the playoffs, and
they have to because they understand, Okay, we rely on
guys that are all over thirty. Step is thirty four
and Draymond's thirty two and Clay is thirty two. We
rely on those guys. What so we need guys to
play more minutes. The younger guys are playing more minutes,
but Clay and in the normal thing where he's at

(23:24):
right now, it's not working, and you're seeing the Warriors
as a result, be a less dynamic team. If it's
Jordan Pool and Steph Curry starting in the backcourt for
the most part, something hey, look out. Then Clay can
come off the bench. He can still play in death
lineup times, he can still play down the stretch. He's
just not the guy he used to be, and that's
gonna be a problem, especially if you're getting into the

(23:45):
finals against if it's the Celtics, who played tremendous defense.
But in any event, you're getting to another round of
the playoffs where it's not like Clay is gonna discover
the fountain of youth. He's gonna be even more diminished
than he was in this round. The Warriors have a
Clay Thompson problem and they have to address it going
forward to be best to do it right now, but
and at certainly by the NBA Finals, it's okay, what's

(24:06):
the best line that we can put out there, and
that's the best one. Yeah. I think there's just a
question of how much you have as as a lead
for Pool coming off as you know, the second unit
with the fresh legs, young legs, ability to to make
a difference whether whereas we're looking at the Warriors in
a starting mode and when Pools not on the court,

(24:29):
that you can hide a little bit of the deficiency.
You know, where where Clay is not the same guy
right you look at him shooting percentage game to game
for this series. Is at had that miserable game in
the Game three win against Dallas where he was six
of eighteen, but you know they won by nine. Uh,

(24:51):
He's still finished with nineteen points on the night. And
so while the dynamic uh ceiling has been lowered that
you're still getting some of the veterans savvy defensively can't
do it every time down the court, but still more
consistent there than some of his younger counterparts. So you're

(25:11):
you're trying to play the yo yo game. And I
think for Steve Kerr, it's the longer term, and I
mean beyond whatever happens in the NBA Finals, because like
as much as I'd love to see Dallas pushed them
and and eventually win in game seven, why because it
would create chaos theory left and right, and all the
folks that have done nothing but dennigrade the careers of

(25:33):
every guy on the Warriors. Uh, They'll they'll be erecting
uh platforms to spout off on and creating statues of
themselves very fast. So we'll get to watch record builds
in that regards, like what happened all the construction going
on my street? No, no no, no, that guy decided to
build the guy I take nonsense. Guy decided to build
a statue to himself, uh in the city square. Uh.

(25:56):
And so so we'd have a lot of that, a
lot of battles going on, but I think you know,
that's more a next year situation and obviously matchup dependent.
You know, if you do see uh, a healthy Boston
squad in the next round, and and perhaps you have
to pull the strings and switch up a little bit.
But we've seen Clay play some very key defense and

(26:19):
that veteran savvy come into play at times, even if
statistically it's not gonna show up in anything except the
most advanced of stats, you know, on page three, beyond
the basics, beyond the advanced and into the if you
really need and dig into some minutia, we can give
you some good stuff over here. So I think that's

(26:39):
where he still holds uh much of his value. And really,
so long as Draymond and Claire there to roll it,
that Clay can come along for the ride. Doesn't have
to be as brilliant as he once was every night.
And no, I'm not even gonna go there. I'm just
saying that Jordan Pool has been the spark plug off
the bench right now, and I think that's where he

(27:01):
needs to stay twitter at. How about a Fresco Mike
and swollen dome. Now I get your point on it,
but do you really want to be a series late
with that? Where hey, when you're looking back at the
finals and go, man, we just got beat by the Celtics.
We just lost. We lost every game, you know, you
know one oh, one and to say, boy Clay really
couldn't do it. Oh, yeah, no, I'm looking at it

(27:22):
as a no sure, But I mean, obviously there's in
serious adjustments. You don't just hand in a lineup card
for the for the series and say you're done. Right.
If the Celtics come out and they just absolutely bludgeon him, well,
I like to thank Steve Kerr and his coaching staff,
including the outgoing Mike Brown, would be smart enough to
recognize that and make the proper adjustments back to the lineups.

(27:46):
I just think that they're good enough right now that
they can cover it up. Was more the thinking. But
if they don't, then yeah, well, in game adjustments, adjustments,
that's what it's all about, just like in game gambling.
In game adjustment, it's right, that's what damn right. Yeah,
And see how you're catching on? Oh, buddy, I always

(28:06):
catch on. I I actually had a conversation with our
buddy Softie up in uh Seattle earlier today when I
was on, and we talked about the likelihood that there's
more in game betting in the NBA playoffs when the
games are blowouts, Like how many people are getting it
at halftime going oh I can get the Warriors in
twenty five, Yeah, sure, give me that. I get the
Warriors in eighteen, Yeah give me that. Or I get
the Mavericks and I gotta you know, I gotta give eighteen.

(28:29):
I wonder if there's a a a correlation between in
game betting in the playoffs and the larger a deficit
a team has to overcome, because that's that's pretty much
the simplest bet you could make where you can do
it on the fly and potentially make money on well.
Part of it is where where they're at and how
much they overcompensate, right, I'd be curious to to see

(28:52):
uh tracking on a game to game basis right as
it's you know, saying, teams down twenty what what's the where?
Where is that moving right? Where's that line set? And
how dynamic does it start to get as the game
is going on? But certainly they're going to be arbitrage opportunities,
just a matter of whether your browser refreshes fast enough

(29:58):
your podcast, fox Words Radio, The Jason Smith Show with
my bass friend Mike Harmon. Six minutes ago in the
fourth quarter of Boston with an eighties seven sixty eight
lead over the Heat, Derek White now with fourteen points.
He has been tremendous in this series for the Celtics,
as they are just five and a half away from

(30:19):
taking a three games to lead in the Eastern Conference Finals.
More on this game coming up in a few minutes.
But another big story out of the NBA today and
I want to say this is good for the Nets.
Good for the Nets because reports have come out that
the Brooklyn Nets won't give Kyrie Irving the big contract
extension that he wants because of his vaccination decision to

(30:43):
not get vaccinated, slash, the injury history he has had
as a player, and whether these are the only reasons
good for Brooklyn all right, I good for them because
they have seen we're not gonna win with him, right,
he's not dedicated enough to the team into basketball. Yes,
he has heard a lot. Yes, the the vaccination decision

(31:04):
was a very weird thing and no one expected that.
But that's what Kyrie Irving decided. But more so than that,
and I guarantee you this is part of it as well,
is how many times do you just need to be
away from the team for whatever reason? You know, And
even though it's in the middle of the season here,
it's in January, it weighs on you, and it weighs
on the team, and they this guy is just gonna
take time off whenever he feels like it. I mean,

(31:26):
that's the thing, right. I didn't think for a chance
for a second that the Nets would do this, They
would stand up to Kyrie Irving and say, okay, you
want you made your decisions. We've tried to support you.
We continue to support you, but we're not going to
give you a lot of money. Now you've got to
decide if you want to opt into the last year
of your contract. Because this is the Nets daring him
to say, you know what, I'm gonna opt out and

(31:47):
go someplace else. And Nets are gonna say it worked,
because that's exactly what Brooklyn is trying to do. Hey,
play this, you opt in, play this year. If we
have to play you, we have to play you. But
that's gonna be it. Then we're gonna move on. Or hey,
maybe this piss Kyrie Irving off enough and they'll want
to opt out, thinking I can get a big time
deal from somebody else. The issue is is that whatever
deal he's gonna get, most of the teams, our teams,

(32:09):
you don't want to go to. Hey we got room
for Kyrie. Oh man, I ain't going there. Come on,
come on, man. So good for the Nets doing this.
They're standing up to Kyrie, over the last couple of years,
has decided to be anything but a team player and
not show that he cares about winning a championship or
moving towards anything. Nope. I want to do whatever I
want to do when I want to do it, and
I'm getting paid forty million dollars year and make those decisions.

(32:32):
The Nets are saying, not anymore good for the Nets. Oh,
it's like I said weeks ago, right the fictional pole
that we had that became real and and showed up elsewhere.
It's like, if you tell me I gotta take Harden
Kyrie or Russ, what am I saying? Empty chair, I'll
move on. I'll find somebody else to fill some minutes. Uh,

(32:52):
and to help me build my locker room. And for
the Nets. Yeah, the question is what's the trickle down?
Does k D still stand for him? Is that going
to be something that he's upset about that there's not
a an effort to have him in the room. Because
Rebert Kyrie was saying he's part of the brain trust,
he went and he called, he did roll call in
his media availability of who should all be at the table?

(33:15):
Notice he didn't include Steve Nash. Steve Nash looks like
he's gonna be, you know, still standing when it's all
said and done. But yeah, for Kyrie, irving the desire
to win. It's like, you know what, some folks voted
him all NBA based on reputation and and what he
has quote unquote meant in the past. Well, it's that's

(33:36):
you know, that was a new day yesterday. It's not
the same right now. And for the nets, you know,
they want to go all Danny Ocean and say you're
either in or you're out right now. The problem is
they can't believe what he's telling them. No, I appreciate,
I appreciate any guy that stands up for you know,
whatever he believes in right, and you're willing and willing
to do that. But in a team atmosphere, they need

(33:58):
to know that you're going to be there to help,
you know, the team when it's all said done, And
there's nothing to suggest that there's going to be any
change to that. And this year it happened to be
about vaccination status. Well, what's what is it? In three?
It's like you don't want to find out here we're
paying you a lot of money to be our number

(34:18):
two and we can't rely on you to be there. No,
that's that's a difficult proposition. And I don't know that
there's things that I would love to include in contracts,
uh language going forward. If I'm gonna guarantee you forty
seven million dollars or whatever the number is, I don't
know that legally you can do them right in terms
of commitments and and responsibility to the squad. So yeah,

(34:41):
for the Nets, they're they're in a bad place, but
taking the hard line stance against big names and superstars.
It's a new world order. So are they in the
bad place that's really the good place that's pretending to
be the bad place? Watching a little of that earlier,
I was watching some season two. Are they good Janet?
Or are they bad Janet? Or they bad Janet pretending

(35:02):
to be good Janet? Did you like good bad Janet? Oh?
I love bad Janet, especially when bad Janet pretended to
be when good Janet pretended to be bad Janet, but
she was really good Janet. And in the background you
got Adam Scott the whole time. So yeah, oh man,
uh so good for the Nets. I didn't think they'd
stand up to him for this and everything that he's
done the last couple of years to show I'm not

(35:23):
a team guy, but they did. We got more on
this story coming up, because hey, there's a big Kevin
Durant aspect to this as well. Uh, keep it right here,
Jason Smith, Mike Harmon, you're listening to Fox Sports Radio.
We come back? Are we talking about the heat trailing
three games to two? Is it a big comeback? Keep
it right here. This is Fox Sports Radio. And where's

(35:46):
the top gun music? Where's the top gun music? Top
gun music. There's a good run. Where is it? Where
is it? I'm still looking for it. It's easy
