Now before we get back into a big NBA story.
Just to finish this, so, we had the the big
news a few minutes ago. You know, we get big
news late at night once in a while. We did
as just before the deadline to pull out of the
(01:08):
NBA Draft and Drew Timmy announced he is going back
to Gonzaga for his senior year, and and this falls
in line with other players who have decided to come back.
And now Gonzaga is going to be at the top
of the list. And I know you're not that high
on Gonzaga going forward because they find a way to
get in trouble during the tournaments, because then they don't
(01:29):
they're not as physical as the big as some of
the big Power five conferences are. But you know, where
are you on Timmy as a player, because I'll tell
you what Ryan is seeing him when he first burst
onto the scene, the scene like two years ago, right,
He's very polarizing the way he plays out. You know,
he's blowing kisses and making muscles and I know so
many college fans and go, oh, I can't stand that guy. Oh,
I love that guy. And I looked at Timmy and
(01:51):
I said, this guy is gonna be the number one
overall pick in the draft because I I I see
so many teams and personnel guys salivating overgoing boy. This
kid is smart, he's big, he knows how to move.
We can run our offense through him, and he is
gonna be fantastic. But here he is at a point
where I thought we'd be talking with him going to
the top three in the draft, and yet he's going
(02:12):
back to school. I actually coach Drew Timmy at the
NBA's top one hunder camp before he signed Wickenzaga, and
um man, he's he's a special kid, one one of
my favorites, you know. Um So his success doesn't surprise
me at all. Um. I guess at the next level,
the questions he'll just have to answer is, you know,
he's ther five, he's her four. Can he guard the perimeter?
(02:33):
You know? How effective can he be in the paint?
You know, there's a lot of different a lot of
different elements there though. But I mean he's an absolute
dog in college. Man. He can go and get a
bucket anytime he wants. He's got sure hands. Man. I
mean he's a joy, and I mean he does so
many things right on the floor. It is hard to
ever take him out of a basketball game. Man, Drew
is a special player, you know. So I I just
(02:54):
think I'm happy for him. He looks like he's enjoying
his experience in college obviously, and even better, as we
we we talked about earlier, he can go and get
some money. You know, he's kind of getting some deals
coming in. So I like that. It's it's it's at
least it's better for the sport of college to be worthwhile,
for these guys to have something to stay and play for.
(03:16):
And let's just imagine. Let's just say for instance, right,
and I don't I hate to even We'll say, we'll
make up another name. No, we'll let's talk about the
old Bannons, right, the ol Bannons. We're rock stars at
u c l A now because the injury and other
factors didn't go as well in the pros. You know,
Charles actually had a hurt knee and just couldn't get
(03:38):
past it. Medical things were not as good as they
are now. Okay, imagine if he was getting in I
l money at a minimum. So at least these top
guys have a chance to pull away with some type
of revenue. And I bring that back full circle, right, Jason,
we're talking about Drew Timmy here, right, you gotta be
a static for Drew Timmy that at least he can
be compensated. He may make more money now that he
(04:00):
may make as a pro. You know, So you've got
to be really excited for the opportunity, and now the
choice to stay in college like makes a little bit
more sense, Like, man, I could I don't know what
I could make a million dollars here. I wouldn't make
a million dollars as a pro next year, you know.
So I think in certain situations, you've got to be
a static for these guys. And it makes sense. Oh no,
(04:23):
that's that's the part I like. Is that for a
guy like Timmy Right, Let's just say this is someone
who has played, you know, almost his whole career with Gonzaga.
You don't know what kind of career he's going to
have in the NBA. And this is a guy who,
over the course of his n i L money, has
made about four hundred grand or five under grand. Let's
(04:45):
say it comes back for one more year, makes another
couple hundred grand. Alright, he's made seven grand and maybe
that's the end of his NB of his college college
basketball future. Okay, Hey, that that's this. This is what
n I L is there for, right, because Gonzaga has
gone to Final four is and and has seen all
kinds of relevancy jump because of Drew Timmy right, because
of what he's done for the program, and I think
(05:06):
that's awesome, and I like the fact that that may
have guys go back to school. Gee, I can go
to the NBA, maybe go in the second round, which
I'm not gonna get any money, or I could go
back for one more year, get four grand and then
go pro. All right, and then if I have to
go play in Turkey or play in Greece or something,
that's where I have to go, right, So what, I'm
not gonna make tons of money, but I'll make I'll
(05:28):
make good money for while I can still play basketball.
Now that that that's the good part about N I L.
And I'm and I'm I'm digging all of that, uh
and I and I'm I'm I'm glad for Timmy because,
like I said, he's been big and he has shown
that I've been big, and I've done things for college basketball,
and I've done things for my school, and every every
cent he's getting is great. But for N I L.
(05:49):
We talked about with Jimbo Fisher and Nick Saban, it's
the guys that haven't stepped on campus and and have
million and one point five million dollar deals. I mean,
you know, you're you're gonna see, sir, And schools just
not be able to compete for for uh for kids
for that, or certain schools are gonna wind up, you know,
outspending themselves are certain because certain uh n I L
(06:11):
deals are gonna fall through or they're not gonna happen.
And it's just a model that there's no rules for.
And when guys are coming in and they're making that
kind of money before they've even played or even see
what their impact on the school is. This is not
about taking care of a guy in college making much
because n I l's name, image and likeness. This is
what is the school making money off of you? And
(06:32):
and that's what I need, my my part of the pie.
And this is now an I L is all about recruiting.
It's about getting people in the door. Now, this this
is this is not about Hey, let's make sure the
players are all treated right, this is about ay Now
now we're using it as n I L. Right. I
look at it like Twitter, right, Like Twitter came around
when it was supposed to be like for sports. Right,
let's talk about Twitter for sports, right, because I remember
(06:54):
when Twitter first came out, it was guys like Steve
Nash and Shock who love Twitter because they said it
allows me to get my message out to the fans unfiltered,
right without having to talk to a reporter to write
a story about something. I could just get out what
I want to say. And that was great, right, that
was the altruistic Uh, Pollyanna, Look at Twitter and what
(07:17):
if we see Twitter become in the last fifteen years.
It's a place where where people spew hate a lot,
and it's and and and people get in trouble for
Twitter more than they get. Hey, instead of getting my
message out to my fans, I wind up having to
get traded or you guys wind up losing jobs, are
getting suspended because they say stuff on Twitter. It's like,
I get the intentions because the intentions were good, right,
(07:39):
the intentions of nyel was good. But just now it's
become Hey, now it's about marketing. Now it's above board.
This is what we can get you to come to
the school. And so if you're you know, if you're
in a college town where hey, you know Syracuse, New York,
or or you know Spokane, Washington, wherever it is, Oh boy,
we can't give you what some of you know what
Miami can or chicag or Los Angeles. Uh, that's gonna
(08:02):
really skew college sports. And because that's what it's become now.
It's not about taking care of the kids when they're
there and making sure it's hey, this is what we
can give you to get in the door. And it's
part of the big recruiting tool. And that's why I
understand like guys like Nick Saban are upset now you
are aware as you're throwing out that it's not fair
that certain places have more money or that that are
(08:26):
you can't really you know, guarantee it or you can't compete.
You know they were just doing that under the table, right, Oh,
of course they were. Of course they were like everything
when you see some schools get in trouble for chitty,
yes again in trouble. But you know what I'm saying, right,
But college you want all it's you want all of
college sports to do all, right. You want the entire
(08:47):
Division one college football to do it. You just don't
want five or seven teams to do well. You want
the sport to continue to grow across the continents. It's
got to it's the the SEC recruiting you're talking again,
you're talking about one conference, you're talking about versus everybody else,
and and how much more difficult it is. Well, that's
(09:09):
what it's been. And we finally bring the NFL. So
at least you know the money is getting tracked somehow.
That money wouldn't getting tracked before. It's that That's my
whole point. The money wasn't being tracked and now you're
finally somewhat tracking it now you know. And at the
end of the day because you get kids are getting paid, honestly,
(09:31):
because what stinks is I'm not saying you should ever
do it, but I'm saying I understand it. If you're
a young kid, you're you're seventeen, eighteen years old, you
come from humble beginnings. You may not have the support
system in the light in your life that you deserve
to have or some have, and some one offers you
(09:53):
a lot of money to go and play ball. You're
gonna take that money and change your life and in
make your mother live better, your father live better, whoever
is the one supporting you. So sometimes these guys, you
you always have options, but I understand the temptation, if
that makes sense. So you're you're getting slowly on the
path where you can save those kids from that and
(10:14):
you can keep their integrity intact. And guess there's a
difference between U C L A S N I L
and Pepperoni in I L. There's a difference between you know,
Sack State and Alabama. That's that's what it is. Hey,
if you sail A would tell me, Hey, we'll give
your free Diddy Reese the entire four years, I would say, Yeah,
(10:37):
that's all I need. Well, we're gonna give you. No, No,
that's all I need. Free did Rees. That's all I want.
Great best ice cream sandwiches in the history of the world. Yes,
give me Diddy Rees yeah, oh yeah yeah, and a
lot and being able to park because you know, parking
in Westwood is terrible. So if you give me those
things like, that's what I would look out for. And
I have Moneys money, Man, you have to give me
stuff that's gonna make my life. Maybe this is because
(10:58):
I'm fifty. Yeah, I want that's gonna make my life easier.
I want to be able to park in the closest
spot to the to the to the opening doors at
targets than I possibly can. Right, That's what I want.
I don't want money. I want to be able to
park really close right there. They give me stuff like that.
That's my like N personal N I L deals, that's
what I would want. Hey, man, listen, they're they're coming around.
(11:19):
It's not a fix all I think. Look, I'm with you,
it ain't perfect. I think all these kids should get
a piece of the pie or revenue share, you know,
flat out, and there's more. Don't tell me that. It
is more than enough money for these universities to do
that and continue to grow. And the reason I say
there's more than enough is because this system has been
so outgrown and so flawed for so long that when
(11:44):
these TV deals ballooned and expanded, they're like, whoa should
we be paying? The athletes are like, no, no, no, no,
keep the money to ourselves. Don't tell what they're worth.
They make more than enough. Okay, what would what do
you think? Let me ask you this now. Say you
are Ryan Hollins and you're you're going into college. You're
(12:07):
going to u c l A right now, with the
skill set you had going into school for as a recruit. Okay,
you're going in what's what? What's your expectation for n
I L money. Like, if you everything was to say,
you know, the big recruit you were and coming in
going to u c L A, what what what would
you expect n I L money coming your way going
(12:29):
in the door. Well, I've got to correct you. I
was not a big recruit, so I probably would have
you went to u c L A. Man, everybody's a
big recruit going to U c L. No, not me.
I was not a big You were a three star dude.
I got you were a three star dude. That's a
big recruit. Three stars are not big stars, are you are? Hey?
My school, Syracuse is my school, and we got is
three star guys. Man, listen, Uh, I wouldn't have those expectations.
(12:54):
And and some of these kids do have to be realistic.
I'm not sure how the piece of the pie of
n I L money is rolling around. I'm sure the
top guys are getting a million dollars, and some kid
out there thinks he's expecting a million dollars and he
ain't marketable. You know, it ain't for everybody. There may
be a guy that has a and this is the
world we live in, Jason, there may be a kid
(13:15):
with a lot of Instagram followers are Twitter followers, and
he's marketable, and guess what he gonna get paid for
being a marketing There's probably a kid that's a much
better player, but he ain't marketable, you know. So there
there there's levels of the game. The kids getting a
piece of reality. Um, is it gonna mess some kids
(13:35):
up because they think they're already superstars before they step
on the field. Yeah. A million dollars a nineteen years old.
If you ain't ready to work hard, you're gonna hit
the real world really fast. So hey, man, give him
a piece of the pie. Hopefully it grows and hopefully
it gets cleaned up. Man, I'm with you, though it
needs to be cleaned up. But I'm just glad they're
getting paid somewhat. Man, dude, you got recruited by usc
(13:59):
OR again St. Louis, Washington where you almost went, and
U c l A. That's pretty good, man, That's that's
pretty good. I'm looking everywhere I see if you you're
at least three stars. Some places you were four stars.
I'm god. I love the Internet that I can go
back and find this now because this is back when
you when you were when you were going to u
c l A in nineteen seven. This I mean, I mean,
(14:23):
you're you're, you're, you're, You're at least three stars everywhere
I'm looking. Guys, never have any type of conversation with
Jason Smith. He will certify every comment. He will research
and have have ample information on anything you say. Okay,
I mean, but hey, if I'm a big name and
I l guy and I have a good year, I'm
(14:44):
it makes it. It actually makes sense to go back
like Jude's Himmy is the perfect case where it's like
he could make more money than he may make as
a pro. Next here the perfect case where you say,
and I works. It works all right, it works every
place it doesn't work, it works. Be sure to catch

That's why I discovered Matches all the cash back. You
were in the end of your first year Discover exceptionally
common sense. Learn more at discover dot com. Slash match
limitations they do apply well. I I rubbed my lucky
rabbit's foot today, big dog, and I said, please, can
we just get some bit of new news on this
fantasy football gate with Tommy fam and Jack Peterson and
(15:49):
Mike Trout at Hey, the sports God's blessed us. A
story that took off like a rocket a week ago
where Tommy fam slapped Jock Peterson in the out field
before a game between the Reds and the Giants. We
found out was over a fantasy football spat. Tommy Fan
was upset that the league that he was in Peterson
some other MLB players. UH. Last year Peterson did some
(16:14):
shenanigans with the injured reserve spot on his team's roster.
Was able to move a player who was designated as
out into the injured reserve spot, which means you can
pick up free agents and not have to waive anybody. Uh.
He was so upset, carried that with him for months
and months and slapped Jack Peterson on the field before
the game. He got suspended for three games because of it.
(16:35):
Peterson UH spared no expense and explained to everybody just
what happened. Hey, though, we found out the whole deal
was about the I R spot and it was about
Jeff Wilson, who was a you know, a free agent
pick up running back with the forty niners at the
end of last year, and it became a crazy story. Uh.
In the ensuing days, we've gotten more details on this.
(16:57):
Jason Lackin for a CBS Sports and if All insider
stopped by with us a couple of days ago and said, hey,
he heard it was about a hundred thousand dollars that
was at stake that fam missed out on. As a result,
Fan wound up quitting the league and then in his
post suspension press conference for the first time, said that okay, yeah,
(17:22):
you know, yeah, this happened, and uh, I blame the commissioner,
Mike Trout. So now we know that Mike Trout was
the commissioner of this football league where he could have
figured it out by making a decision but didn't. And uh,
you know, he was kind of half joking when he said,
you know, it's all Trout's fault. He's a terrible commissioner.
Nobody wanted to be commissioner We made him do it,
(17:44):
but he was terrible. He could have solved it well.
Today Mike Trout got questions about it. Uh. The Yankees
uh and the and in the Angels didn't play today.
They got reined out. But still Trout was asked about
fantasy football Gate before the game, and here's part of
what he said. Guy ain't talking about I don't even know.
(18:06):
You know, it's just one unthing. It's uh, you know,
everybody's competitive, everybody love fantasy football. Who does? Uh? Yeah,
I'm not gonna talk about that about five times, big
dog in that press conference. I'm not gonna talk about
I'm not gonna talk about that. I'm not gonna talk
about I'm not gonna talk about that. So here he
is now embroiled in a fantasy football conversation that he
(18:27):
really doesn't want to be involved in, but he is
so now that all of this has gone on, Right,
we talked about this a little bit last night, and
now that that Trout has basically said, listen, yeah this happened,
and I was the commissioner. Um, he's the guy who's faulted.
Is all right. You can blame fam you can blame Jock,
did Jack Peterson try to manipulate the I R spot. Maybe,
(18:49):
Uh did Tommy fam get out of control with with
his thoughts on it, you know, yeah, sure, because he
wind up slapping a guy. But overall, this is where
the commissioner steps in and fixes it. Man. This is
this is where you and I have both been commissioners
of fantasy leagues. This is where if if two owners
have a beef about something or or or you know,
fantasy owners question something that's going on uh in a league. Uh,
(19:13):
the commissioner steps and the solves it. And this is
completely on Mike Trout. Mike Trout could have either said, hey, sorry, Tommy,
the the app allows us to move people from out
to being I R. So that's how it's gonna go.
I mean, he's gonna be pissed, but you make a decision,
or you say, hey, Jock, that's not really what we
wanted for the rule. It's got to be a player
who's uh definitively on injured reserve, you can move them
(19:35):
to the I R spot on your roster. Uh. And
that's how you do it, right, That's the job of
a commissioner, right, that's what you do. You gotta you know,
I I get it that you're volunteering, and I don't
know that people, but if you're gonna suck at it,
don't volunteer. Doesn't help anybody, you know, let somebody else
volunteer if they're gonna suck at it less than you did.
I completely blame Mike Trout on this. Jason, you are
(19:56):
absolutely right. It is the commissioner's responsive reality to take
and hold the money and is the commissioner's responsibility to
be on top of things like that. So you're right.
The loophole where he was able to stash players in
I R was ridiculous. And this is a dynasty league,
so when you have an extra player like that is
(20:18):
I mean, it's literally everywhere everything because instead of him
having to choose who he wants to keep or not,
he can just hold onto him. And in the NFL,
those are major injuries. So they probably had a really
stacked team in which he didn't have to let go of,
and Trout had to either make a big decision to
either you know, kick Jock out of the league, Jack
Peterson out the league, or kind of you know, asked
(20:42):
the league, Hey, what do you guys want to do
in this situation, but clearly it was not served right
and it upset upset fam so much that you know
he took action. But you're right, the commissioner, it is
his job to make peace or to come to some
under understanding. You know, you you asked the whole chat,
what do you guys want to do? Maybe you take
(21:04):
a vote, you figure it out. But when there's money
on the on the line to that extent, and I
get a millionaire, so that's it. It's just we can
all agree. If I'm playing, it's the principle. Man, we're
playing for a hundred dollars, you know, we're playing for
its twenty dollars, and you put that money in and
you expect integrity to be shown within the league. You
gotta you gotta step up because it's Truck's league, right,
(21:26):
it ain't Jock league. Is Trus's league. Yeah. Look, and
the money is that, you know, it's kind of secondary
because even you say, oh, these guys make all kinds
of money. Yeah know they do, but it doesn't matter
because because just think about it from the angle of
of you know, you know, guys like us who play
fantasy sports. When I've been in leagues that I've wanted
(21:46):
to win more than anything else. And the and the
entry fee was like twenty dollars per team, right like that,
Like when I when I was an NFL network, they
had a rule that I want to say, it was
you could only do fantasy if the aches were up
to twenty five dollars per team or less, right like,
you couldn't you couldn't do any more than that. So
you have you know, you know, twelve people in the league,
(22:07):
it's twenty five dollars the winning team, you know, you
win like a hundred and fifty dollars at the end
of the year or whatever it is. But people wanted
to win those leagues more than they wanted to win
anything else just because that was the lead. They wanted
to win because you either want bragging rights or you
want to be able to say you have it over
other people. And you know, yeah, does Tommy fam and
Jack Peterson want to win because it's a hundred grand Yeah,
But you want to win because you want to win.
(22:28):
So it's it's you know you do you're not doing
fantasy football. Just sit back and go yeah, I don't
really care. I mean, once in a while you get
the guy that that joins the league because a friend says, hey, dude,
we can't have the league if we don't have a
twelve team. Will you just do it? And he goes, yeah,
no problem. The guy like completely ignores his team and
just puts it out there so you can have a league. Yeah,
once in a great while, there's guys like that, But
(22:51):
everybody else does fantasy because they want to win, because
it's fun and you're competing. So I I completely get
all of this, and Mike Trout as a commissioner, has
to know that. Okay, uh yeah, people get mad and
people get fired up, and sometimes you're fired up. You're
too fired up on It's like, dude, come on, man,
I can't. I can't be talking to you at eight
thirty in the morning every day during the week. Is
(23:12):
you're mad about some kind of scoring issue, Okay, you
gotta just leave me alone for that, But you do
as a commissioner, no that. Okay, when something comes up,
I gotta take care of it because everybody cares a
lot about this. And you could say people care too much,
but it doesn't matter because people care a lot about
this and they want to win for different reasons. You
want to win different leagues at different times. And here's
(23:33):
the point too, Mike Trout is Mike Trout. Okay, at
the end of the day, he seemed a little too
big time for this, seemed a little too big time
for this, and and and and guess what, Jason, we
know that guy who's just not good at fantasy. He's
not good at fantasy and he had his a tendency
to clock out when when it comes time to make
(23:54):
moves and trades and and and do stuff, he clocks
out because his team ain't that good. And I'll tell
you one thing about playing in a in a keeper
or a dynasty league. It is tough if you're not
really about that fantasy football life. I'm not about that
life like that. I'm a year to year type of guy.
I'm a seasonal guy. You're not about that, you shouldn't
play it. And maybe Mike Trout is not all in
(24:17):
like that the commissioners all who's all in like that?
He's gonna irritate you with asking you too many questions
so that he's very thorough. Mike Trout is Mike Trout.
He probably don't have time to be doing all that well. No,
of course he does. He plays for the Angels. They
don't have anything to do. They're eliminated by the middle
of August. All he has is September comes. He's got
(24:38):
all kinds of time. I mean maybe not this year.
They're a little bit better than they were last year.
But he usually has all kinds of time, doesn't have
to worry about pesky things like the playoffs the postseason.
Now he's got all kinds of time. He could do it.
He can do it. And you know what, I say
this too, right, And this is a big, big pet
peeve of mind. This gets outside of fantasy football, right,
is that when when somebody, oh, how do I say this? Okay?
(25:01):
When when when someone needs to do something and uh,
and they haven't done it, and they always say, yeah,
I just but you know, I've just been busy. Yeah,
I've just been busy. I haven't done it. You know what,
everybody's busy. Everybody has things going on in their life.
And you're not busy like you're a stockbroker where you're
on the floor for fourteen hours a day and you
(25:23):
have enough time to go home and eat, nap for
five hours. Then you gotta get back up and trade
stocks because you're worried about pork bellies or whatever it is. Um,
everybody is busy. It's just no, I haven't found I didn't.
I didn't want to want to do this thing because
I just and I'm not interested in it. I don't
feel like I need to do it, So I'm just
gonna say, oh, yeah, I'm busy, right Like like when
(25:43):
you talk to somebody you haven't talked to in a
long time and you're like, boy, I really was friends
with this person. I called him a few times and
they finally called me back, and they go, yeah, sorry,
it's been really busy. You're too busy for a five
minute phone call. Your that your your schedule is so
busy twenty four hours a day that you just you
can't take five minutes for that, And you kind of
see I kind of see through it, you know, when
(26:05):
someone says something like to tell me, I kind of
roll my eyes and go, Okay, you're somebody I don't
need to call anymore. Worry about about being in touch
with because clearly, you know, you know, you and I
are on different wavelengths as far as being able to
stay in touch with each other and that's happening, you know,
through throughout my life with people. He was like, people
stay in your life as friends and they move out
and then you know that's how it goes. But that's
that's kind of what it is. I'll try. Yeah, you
(26:26):
know it's fantasy football, man, I got stuff going on. Uh,
pretty sure you have five minutes to figure something like
that out. I think I'm pretty sure everybody, no matter
what you're doing, has a few minutes for something they
really like to do to figure it out. So anytime
I hear an excuse like that, I go, yeah, that's
that's not a real excuse. I just don't buy it.
I don't buy it. Well, I will say this Mate
show may not value that money the same as other
(26:49):
people do. He may have, you know, fam may have
been in a position to win the league. Jack was
maybe in a position to win. Those bottom tier guys
that know they're out of it, especially when it gets
the dynasty, the clock out, man, they clock out. It's
a problem. They clock out. Those bottom tier guys normally

(28:17):
I got drafted out, so I thought I was going
to New York. You know, I don't need that anymore.
I don't need that. I don't need it. Ryan Hollins
in for Harmon tonight, and uh, you know what one
thing we gotta get to here for comple minutes here,
big dog is uh. You know this report yesterday that
Darvin Ham has been given autonomy over the Lakers roster
(28:40):
that Frank Vogel didn't have. Is gonna pick his own
assistance and have less interference from the front office and
and maybe clutch sports as than Frank Vogel did the
last couple of years of the Lakers. Now. Look, I
like Darvin Ham. You know, you said good things about him,
you know throughout tonight, certainly has got a good pedigree.
I don't know that it matters who coaches the Lakers
(29:01):
this year because that they're stuck with the same roster.
They can't make moves. You know, he's I don't know
that he's going to change the culture, because the culture
is gonna be whatever Lebron and a d and Russell
Westbrook really kind of wanted to be. So he may
wind up being a really good head coach. I'm not
saying he's not, But I don't know that it matters
who the Lakers have as a head coach this year. No,
(29:23):
it does. It doesn't matter. And the reason that Darvin
Ham was selected, my my opinion, what I see is
a former player who can command respect, is gonna know
how to speak the language to other players. And Darvin
ham is putting his work in in this league. He
was a champion as a ball player, and he was
(29:44):
a champion as a coach. So you know that speaks volumes.
And he's came off of you know, not this year,
but the last year, winning the championship in Milwaukee. So
I think it's excellent higher in Darvin ham. Now, does
Darvin have to prove himself? Yes, Uh, I think in
harmony with what you're saying, he's got one job, you
don't you're on the same page with Lebron, James Westbrook
and Anthony Davis. If those are the three that are
(30:05):
here now something happens, We're gonna expect you to be
on the same page with those guys and get them
to play hard, get them to play together, get everybody
on the same page. And that's something that you really
didn't see. Uh last year with Frank Vogels, just things
got all over the place. And I know for sure
Frank Vogel is not the guy that just blame, but
he ended up being out of there. So I think
(30:26):
Darvin Hamm is the correct higher. I'm excited to see
what he can do moving forward. And I do agree
there are questions with the Lakers roster, but i'mnna be honest.
If they're healthy, they have enough. Now I'm not necessarily
saying it's a championship, but they can't do anything but
get better. But anything that they do, uh, is gonna
be revolving around culture, playing hard and you know, just
(30:48):
another year back at it. But I'm intrigued to see
what the Laker is gonna be able to do. But
I'm telling you, I really like this higher with Darvin ham. See,
I think they should tank. I think the Lake. I
think the Lakers. Right, how much better are you really
gonna be next year? Probably not unless you can make
But look, I'll leave this open if you can somehow
find a team to say, oh poor Lakers, Yes, of
(31:10):
course we'll make a trade to help you. Like if
you find that. Okay, I get it, But likely you're
coming in and you're gonna have the same kind of
year you had a year ago. Right, Lebron James is
a year older, he's not getting healthier. Anthony Davis the
same way. The guy doesn't play in more than half
the games. Uh, it's not gonna be a great year.
You're not gonna figure out Russell Westbrooks. So if you're
(31:33):
gonna be a little bit less than mediocre, doesn't pay
to be that way in the NBA tank. Either play
out Westbrook's contract or trade it for another expiring deal,
whatever you want to do. I would trade Anthony Davis.
You've seen the best of him. He's not gonna get
healthier as his career gets older and gets on. And
I would let Lebron walk after this year and let
you know, don't give him a new deal, because are
(31:55):
people gonna come play with Lebron? Can you really build
a competitive, playoff competitive team around him? No? You saw
last year Lebron led the league in scoring and they
didn't make it the playing around So that's kind of
That's kind of why I see. If you're gonna be
subpar anyway, go all the way, get whatever assets you can,
and a year from now, when you're going into the
(32:15):
off season, that's okay. We got room, we got money,
We got room for a couple of new stars to
come make the Lakers their own. You can't properly judge
the Lakers last year they weren't healthy. Now, their culture
was bad. You know, things may have happened behind the scenes.
They've got stuff that they know they need to work on.
But you can't judge the talent of that team. But
they weren't healthy. You didn't have Anthony Davis for a
(32:38):
majority of the season. Uh, you know, Russell Bestpick didn't
have time to mesh. And there are a number of
injuries you know throughout the team. You guys coming in
and injured. You've got a couple of guys that didn't
even play. So you can't properly judge what that team
would or wouldn't have done. And I'll tell you one
thing I'm never gonna do is counnot Lebron James. And
this is still a team that's coming off too removed
(32:59):
years remove a championship. Now, obviously it's a different team.
They have significantly changed. But if they can get back
to a defensive identity, I think things turn around in
l A. Now turn around. I'm not making a statement
how much they turn around. I know it can't do
anything but get better. And obviously i'd expect guys to
be able to come out and participate and play and
be on the floor and be available. Yeah, but I
(33:22):
I don't know when he's good, how he's going to
be available. Like Lebron's gonna play in fifty five or
sixty games, And if you're lucky a d is gonna
play in fifty five or said that that's not enough.
I mean the guy. You gotta think at this point,
neither of these guys have played more than seventy games
in five years. Not suddenly just gonna get healthier as
it gets older. Dude, you'd be out there giving some minutes. Man,
(33:42):
you'll be out there giving some back. You know. If
Lebron's playing in the five, you can come in and
give a few minutes back and and and that could work.
But it's outside of that, it's gonna be too hard. No, No,
I'm not saying I'm I'm all in. I'm not calling championship,
but they're going a little too wild. Mr Smith, look
at you calling. Yeah you may as well be calling championship,
but calling championship. Twitter and out boy Offresca Ryan at

you so much. Ben Mallers coming up next, Fox
