(00:24):
listening to Fox Sports Radio. Greetings and welcome inside the
Jason Smith Show with my best friend Mike Harmony. Yeah,
happy Friday. Everybody happy. Well, it's not happy for Joe Girardi,
but for many other people it is happy, like for
(00:44):
the Phillies that and to me it is a happy,
happy Friday. As we are now a waiting Game two
of the NBA Finals, which will be next Friday, so
we have a lot to get through. It's also Hawaiian
Shirt Day, and uh it is a a big a
because I am now feeling the sunshine that Francisco Lindor's
(01:04):
going to be back in the line up a day
after closing a door on his finger and missing the
Mets game against the Dodgers last night. Because you know,
the Mets can have nice things, just when things look
to be great, I'm going to close a door on
my finger. But here's the thing, Mike Carmon, I've come
around since last night. I mean, he's got a sad finger,
he's got a dude. Guess he got what he deserved. See,
(01:28):
I've come around on like, like last night, I was
this is the most Mets of Mets injuries, and and
it's just so Mets that would happen. It's Mets, Mets, Mets, Mets, Metz, Mets, Mets, Mets, Mets,
lindoor door slam, Mets, Mets Mets. No. No, Now I've
come around because now I thought, you know what I've
I've kind of done that thing like like people do
in in entertainment and politics, where for the first day
they're the victim. Then they get upset right when they're
(01:49):
accused of something or they do something they shouldn't have
done in social media ever that So now going from
yesterday going oh my god, now I'm like, wait a minute,
now I'm going on the offensive. I think the Dodgers
did something and had door closed. I think their doors
aren't safe. I think it's the I think it's a
Dodger's fault. They clearly put the Mets in a hotel
that this would happen to Lynn lind door On. I
want an investigation. Now, I'm mad. Now I want an investigation.
(02:12):
I kind of dig this. Now you're going, Uh, let's
let's figure out who's who's to blame. Let's get a
congressional investigation going. I mean this is the kind of thing.
That's what I spent time on. Yes, yes, the day
I feel. Oh, I can't believe my team did this.
I'm so embarrassed. Now I'm tired of being embarrassed. Now
(02:33):
I'm going on the offensive. Now I'm upset now where
Oh yeah, it can't be all there's can you get
what is this? The my what is it? Mike Sosha
in the famous Homer at the Bad episode, Uh, and
Steve Sacks there they killed somebody in New York once
and they never found out who did it. Oh, you
(02:54):
don't know when to shut up? Yeah, it sounds about right. Yes,
so I like it. You're looking for a fall guy. Yeah,
that can't be. He can't be technologically inept. No, as
I watched you struggle to find an open browser. I
mean it extends from the Mets players to Mets fans.
But but hey, it's uh. I think that's the way
(03:17):
to go. I think that's the easiest way to do it.
Just try to figure out all alibis for would be
Dodgers assailants here. Yeah, I want to know if you
have video of Clayton Kershaw with a screwdriver unscrewing something
in Francisco Lindora's hotel room. I want that video. I
want that video or Kershaw and do it because you
know it's got a hallway hallway video. Now that would
(03:38):
be interesting, Yeah, because I mean it's not a bathroom,
and it's not inside an elevator, and there's cameras everywhere,
now right every book I read whenever, We're never gonna
find this guy. Oh but there's cameras on every street corner.
Oh no, we weren't recording him or they still have
a VCR so they have to rewind and right over
the old tape. You know, we gotta have gas on
in the do updates again, because I've seen a whole
(03:59):
new slew of TV procedural things that I have some questions. Yeah,
and when I I want to know, like like how
come all the uh all the stories they go investigating movies,
they all either the tape wasn't working or they yeah,
they're running it on the VCR system they don't have
Oh that's the state of the art. We got everything
right here. We can enhance. Look at the guy's face,
we can get it. He's tagged. Actually, it's like social
(04:19):
media on Facebook. We can find him right now. There's
none of that. It's always it's always as difficult. You
might just have to text him. But that's a whole
other acut another time. But really, where was last night?
Where was Kershaw last night? Maybe maybe to say where
was is Kershaw? Really not on a rehab assignment? Maybe
I see, maybe rehab is a code for, hey, why
(04:41):
don't you go to indoors hotel room and just kind
of make sure that door doesn't close just quite the way.
Maybe maybe it was Walker Bueller. I don't know, but
I want to know where were they? Where were they all?
How did you? And you're looking for nefarious behavior problems?
I don't know. I can't can't just say on guy
was stupid and had an accident, because you know what,
(05:03):
I speak as someone where really stupid things happened very
quickly to you that all to your life for several
weeks at a time, perhaps for a longer time than that.
But as I sit here with my um ill prepared
mummy like hand, Yeah, your hand is really right. You
went to a bad doctor. Man your no, no, no,
you're trapped like iron. Mike Sharp? Do you leave? Mike Sharp?
(05:27):
He's a legend. I mean, I think what happened is
you pass. He was able to just slip that right
off after every match and go, yeah, is that Mike Sharp? No,
he doesn't have his thing on. He's had that bad
four on for fifteen years now. Monsoon. I really I
think instead of you know, having sometimes where you think
the doctor is going to do the operation, but really
the resident doesn't the doctor oversees it, I think they
(05:49):
skipped a level. Instead of the doctor putting that cast
on you would go into a resident, they just got
somebody who was hanging around. Hey, can you go put
like this this this wrap on this patient's hand. Just
put on a white tell him you're a doctor, Just
wrap it up, whatever kind of tape you want to use.
I think that's what happened to you, buddy. I'm not
gonna lie. I think you've got God. I think you've
got God. Man, you got I I screwed it up.
It was it was all my fault. You got you
(06:12):
got screwed up the wrap. No no, no no, I screwed
up the wrap and then tried to do, you know,
do it myself. And now it's a Frankenstein kind of
thing where it looks like you you want to put
a boxing globe over the town. It's like I wrapped
my hands ready, ready for a bad dude at this point.
I mean it just spray paint it like that gold ochre,
you know, and you look like the Yeah, you look
(06:34):
like the thing. It's walk around going it's clawber and time.
It'll be awesome. That's it. I'll go out after the
show tonight. We'll get into the mark. Guess who I am?

just a trick you walking into rooms going It's Clawber
and time. I might actually do that. Instead of singing
a song, I'm gonna do an impression. Who am I No,
I'm picturing like walking into Target or Costco. It's clawber
and time. Okay, let's watch the guy. Let's have a
security guy watch him as he goes around. Quick we
(07:17):
do them. But yes, Francisco Lindor back in the lineup
tonight does have a fracture of his finger that he
jammed in the hotel door yesterday, but it is something
he can play through and he's set to d h
tonight for the Mets against the Dodgers. Now elsewhere in baseball,
the big headline of the day, Joe Girardi is gone.
Farewell to Girardi, who was fired today after two plus
(07:40):
seasons as manager of the Philadelphia Phillies. And you know,
there's two big things about this story. Like the first
one is I give him so much respect because the
dude got fired and he gets paid. He's, you know,
is one of those athletes and coaches that does paid
appearances on the radio everything, Like Tom Brady does his
interview with Jim Gray every week, and he got fired
and a half hour later he did his weekly spot
(08:02):
on MLB Network Radio, like he still he got fight.
He went on, can you imagine being the host of
that show and going, yeah, okay, so we're not gat Girardi. No, no,
he's coming on. He's coming up with the page he
needs to pay. Yeah now he don't. Yeah yeah, now
he does. Well, he's he's gonna get paid out. But obviously,
but I mean, look what his team did today, or
(08:24):
his former team beat the hell out of the Angels,
sending them their ninth straight defeat. Yeah, tend nothing today,
the Phillies one. So you're bright, Harper with a couple
of home runs. Suddenly, how suddenly Harper's arm is feeling
a lot better. Oh, I think I could play the field.
Now I'm feeling fantastic. This is gonna be great. But
you know the thing about this, and this gets bigger
(08:44):
than just Hey, the Phillies fired Joe Girardi, right, because
sometimes and I'll tell you one of the real reasons
why this happened to Joe Girardi. Yes, the Philly Weaving
it's a badly put together ball club. They have five sluggers,
and and and and and the horrendous defense. So good luck. Right,
they're paying a lot of money to guys that aren't
given the bank for their buck what they should get.
And Harper's injured, all the things you heard today. But
(09:07):
this is a big deal because if you remember when
he got hired, it was down to Joe Girardi, Buck
Show Walter, and Dusty Baker. Right, those were the finalists
for the job, and the and and this is what
I'm going, Oh, man, this is who I want to
manage the Mets. I want one of these guys to
manage the Mets. Right, So these were the finalists, and
they went with Joe Girardi, which at the time you
(09:28):
couldn't really say, oh, that's the wrong call, because Joe
Girardi had one World Series with the Yankees, he had
managed big, big market teams in New York. He was
going to Philadelphia. It was gonna be the same thing, right.
He had great credentials, Buck Show Walter had great credentials,
Dusty Baker had great credentials. Right, They're all really really
good managers. You couldn't go wrong. But when you see
(09:48):
and have to wake up every single day, when you're
a member of a team, and you have to be
reminded that you got that decision wrong because Buck show
Walter went to the Mets and look at the Mets
right now, right first place in the N East again,
nine and a half game lead, probably down to eight
and a half actors to night, because I'm sure they're
gonna lose. Like I said, I got a bad feeling
about the this weekend, but the Mets are Look look
(10:09):
where the Mets are right and and and and he's
and he's the guy that's the big change this year
at leadership wise, Um, Dusty Baker, look at where the
Astros are right, how well are they playing and how
well have they gone from their controversy to now, hey,
they're back on top being the Astros right there in
first place. When you have to wake up every day
and look and say, every time you see Joe Girardi's name,
(10:31):
you go, man, we got that decision wrong. We could
have had either of these guys, and it's it's it's
easy to say, well, if we had either one, we'd
be winning. But you know, hey, Philly's have talent, Astros
have talent, Mets have talent. These two teams with two
different managers and look where they are. So when you're
reminded of that every day. If we got this wrong,
we got this wrong. Eventually, that guy's gonna get fired, right,
(10:51):
whether whether it's his fault or not, it's just boy,
it's a daily reminder of we could have had any
one of these three guys. We could have taken door
A or DOORB, and instead we chose Door C. And
it's the only one that was the wrong choice. So
when that happens, yeah, it's in your head that we
got this wrong, we got this wrong. He's not the guy,
and it just gets closer and closer to every day
until you finally make the decision and say, okay, now
(11:14):
we have to move on. We got the decision wrong.
We gotta get somebody else in. Well, let's call it
what it is. You're not you not helped by the
fact that the Sixers got bounced unceremoniously. That's I need it.
It's not my fault. Joe Girardi got Joe Girardi got five.
Look at his fault. We were at least in the playoffs.
Phillies aren't getting the playoffs. But that's not My's his fault.
(11:35):
It's his fault. It's his fault. Joel and beat got hurt.
I mean he actually tripped Joel and beat on the
way to the locker room from a game once. It
that's how he hurt his eye. It wasn't in the game.
He actually tripped him into tripping. It was a bad thing.
I'm glad he got fired, oh boy. But the point
being that in a city like Philadelphia, right, the reputation
is there, and as soon as the angst and the
(11:55):
anger of a failed, confusing season goes away, what what
do they do? Turn attention to the Phillies and how
they're playing day to day? Right. The Harper injuries unfortunate
because it restricts you in in some of your roster flexibility.
But in the end you're you're still six games under
five hundreds of paying and that's with a win today
(12:19):
against the Angels who suddenly can't figure anything out, which
is a little earlier than I think would have expected.
I was waiting for that crash in the second half,
but hey, there it is. But for the Joe Girardi,
the expectations were huge. Right. Forget about the fact that
he was at in an organization that had stability with
(12:39):
great leadership in the clubhouse, where while he managed and
had to manage egos and do a little of the
Phil Jackson stuff. You did have guys for the most
part that were there and helping push everything in the
same direction. I will not mention his name. Uh well,
it's DJ and not and Rivera and and like all
(13:01):
those veteran guys, right, you had always had a core
that even if they were struggling, they held things together.
And so for Joe Girardi you move forward. It's like,
all right, you get some of the benefit of the
doubt in that regard. And and now, uh well, that
good will ran out after two months. And I asked
JP about it the other day when he came jop
Paul Barrossi joins us each week, u MLB network, NHL
(13:25):
network man about town, uh fs one, you name it.
He's everywhere. But the the idea of you know, are
they going to fire him? And he felt it was
getting heated, but not that it would get quite this quickly.
I'm on fire between the question I asked Buker last
night and that one with JP. Uh well, I can't
wait to try to talk football with Jason Cole later
(13:49):

I mean, it's it's hard to look up and say
every day we got it wrong, we got it wrong.
You know change is gonna come. Uh, we'll have more
baseball Mets Dodgers just underway at Chevez Ravine, Francisco, Lindor
is batting. He is actually playing shortstop and he actually
(14:32):
walked through a door to get to the plate. I
know he didn't really, but he is actually batting right
now for the Mets as they shows up with an
action years Shanny, no doors stopping me, babe, You know
that that would have been great if he did that,
like to get into the batter's box. He pretended to
open the door like he walked to the batter's box
and pretended to open and close it behind him and
pull his hand out of the way, made sure it
(14:52):
was okay, and then he got in the backs to hit.
That would have been Did the Dodgers give him walk
up music? Not? None of up in the door, just
in the door. They just played doors songs all night.
They just play. Is this the end, my friend? It's
just doors all night? All that is the doors. Uh?
So a lot more baseball come but straight ahead? Uh.
(15:13):
The Warriors are conveniently ignoring their real issue with Game
one that they could wind up getting swept about. What
is it? We'll tell you coming up next right here

you updated on this. I mean, look, this is bigger
than the NBA Finals right now because we're looking at
the NLCS preview, my Carmen, So let's just put it
in its proper splace right now. Well, I mean you'll
have to put it in a box and let it
wait for four months. Maybe maybe they just canceled the
rest of the season. And the Dodgers, now, well they
(16:19):
just decided after your no hit effort. I mean, what
you have five four four hits yesterday plus um, yeah,
five hits if you're counting lind Or getting his hands.
But it was the Double Door, so it was two doors.
So maybe it's two hits. Maybe the Mets had six
hits yesterday? Was it the Double Door? Isn't that the No,
(16:39):
it is a double doucee. The Double Doucee. Yeah yeah, no,
you need the bar and uh yeah yeah yeah. The
Double Door was a club in Chicago, Okay, where I
got to see the neurotic outsiders up close and personal,
the supergroup Steve Jones of the Sex Pistols with Duff
mccagan and those guys have great Duf mccagan played with everybody. Really,
(17:01):
he's played with everyone. I mean really. Uh now, hey,
now before you get that, want to get before we
get to the NBA finals. Uh, Trey Turner taking all
the drama out of this game. A single with two
outs in the bottom of the first inning. He extends
that hit streak for the Dodger game. He's closing and
on thirty Mike arm And again. You know, three or
four days from now he gets to thirty. We're talking
(17:23):
about it. When hit streaks get to thirty, they become serious.
He's getting there. We'll be able to do like an
hour of deep thought pieces too on on it. Because
the NBA Finals will be in Hibernation. Oh that's true,
that's true. Yeah. Well, let' let's say it's by Sunday.
He's a twenty six right now. This it makes it
twenty six twenty eight on Sunday. If the Celtics win again,
(17:44):
the series is over, so than thirty Tuesday. Yeah, yeah, okay,
I think the timeline works, okay, cool, I thought I
thought that was about right now. Speaking of Game one
of the NBA Finals, we watched the Warriors the last
twenty four hours try to break down their loss and
put it in perspective. Why did we lose? Why do
(18:06):
we lose? And to a man, they all said the
same thing, and I understand where they're coming from, right
and and it. It doesn't get more encapsulated in one
sound bite than Draymond Greene, who, when he was asked
what happened and what went wrong last night, he talked
about Al Horford and Smart and guys that had you know,
seven eight nine three point attempts in in in game one,
(18:28):
and he kind of blew it off by saying, that's
not gonna happen again. Everything's gonna be Okay, take a listen.
They hit twenty one threes and Marcus Smart, Al Horford
and Derek White combined for fifteen of them. So those
guys are good shooters, but for what fifteen out of
a we're a smart seven A fifteen three I'm right,
(18:53):
eight seven and eight eight seven and eight. Yeah, that's right,
yeahe from those guys, you know, so as I like
I always like the reading of the box score, while
like right now Lebron is saying, I don't have to
read the boy, I know the box score. I know
the box score. Uh. Here's what they're ignoring, because they
(19:14):
are really ignoring the big issue coming off of Game
one because they want to sit here and say, look
at the everybody wants to focus on the forty points
in the fourth quarter and all the threes they hit. Yes,
you are right about that. Is something like that going
to happen again? Probably not. I I don't know that.
You can look at that and say, oh, is he
gonna do? No? I understand that. But here's the other
(19:37):
part of it. You scored sixteen points in the fourth quarter.
When the Celtics wanted to they clamped down, and Steph
couldn't get his shots off and Clay couldn't get his
shots off, and you were stuck when this was when
they were coming back on you. You couldn't get your
shots because the Celtics defense was too good. This is
what they This is what they want to conveniently ignore
and think it's just gonna happen for us. Right. Get
(20:00):
what they allowed Boston offensively, which is all they want
to talk about won't happen again? Long series? Boston shut
them down when it mattered. Now they're not gonna play
that kind of defense all game because you can't, because
you'll be exhausted. Boston doesn't play enough guys to be
able to do their starters all play heavy minutes, but
when they need to as the game evolves. You saw
what happened yesterday. You saw what happened. Look, Boston is
(20:22):
horrible in the third quarter. Okay, they gotta do better
at that, but they got to the fourth quarter. Is
we're gonna do whatever you want to defensively, right and
and and this is not going to change. Boston playing
that kind of defense and and denying shots is not
gonna change. So that that's where I feel like the
Warriors going, You're you're not looking at the real issue, man.
The real issue is where how are you gonna score?
(20:42):
Are you really gonna do? Are you really gonna find
a way for everybody to get free and and and
be able to score d and twenty points and and
under twenty five points and win games? Now, it was
a struggle, was a struggle for you guys last night
Outside of Stephen the first quarter it was a struggle,
and then when it came down to the final twelve minutes, No,
he could't hit anything. You couldn't. You couldn't can continue
(21:02):
to fight back in this game. Because you want to
talk about the Celtics, that's great because they wind up
having open shots on offense and all right, but defensively
they did whatever they wanted to and if that that,
you know that's gonna continue. So that's the real worry.
And I feel like they just want to play misdirection
and go yeah, yeah, that we're fine, We're fine, We're fine. No,
this is why you're looking at being swept. This is
(21:23):
why you're one game away from looking at a sweep,
because that's what's gonna happen if you lose Game two.
And the Celtics winning Game one was a game they
weren't supposed to win, even though like picking to win
the series, I thought they'd lose Game one. But now
you're looking at a business end of a sweep, right,
and that's gonna happen. And what's what's gonna be The
real issue is not going to change, and that is
how are you guys gonna get your shots off when
(21:44):
you need to when Boston plays that kind of defense. Yeah,
I think the fact that Draymond Green is so dismissive
of it all. It's like whatever, and they all were
and I love the Maentra, you know it's four not
one and all that stuff. That's all finally good. But
he couldn't hit the broadside of a barn. He was
awful and just gotta laughed because my shot'll be there.
(22:05):
Like no, if you told the Celtics, hey, you want
him signing up for twelve shots tonight, they're gonna laugh
and say, yeah, Draymond was shooting twelve times, come on,
let's go especially four times from three point range. Guess
what Al Horford in these playoffs for the year, Derek
White a thirty four percent three point shooter. If you
(22:27):
leave them open, odds are they're professional athletes, they're professional
basketball players. They're gonna make a lot of shots. Likewise,
there's no, seemingly no concern over the fact that they
couldn't get anything started after the first quarters. Steph Curry
was great, and I saw a lot of apologizing for
Steph Curry, and I get it. Yeah, Jordan Pool is terrible. Okay, fine,
(22:51):
but Steph Curry was a no show after the first quarter,
one of six from three point range, thirteen points the
rest of the way, and Mr Alla Fane in the
fourth quarter I call him that from now on he
likes to do the little dancing and jazz hands and all.
So all of that just just adds up. Right, Celtics
(23:12):
are gonna be relentless, and Jayson Tatum is not going
to have the game he did this time. What does
that mean that maybe the the drive and kick isn't there,
the assisco down and maybe not as wide open shot,
maybe maybe not. We'll see how Golden State defends. But
but I dare say that he's not gonna be three
of seventeen again and that these guys are suddenly gonna
(23:34):
stop playing. You know, for all those that wanted to
dismiss what the Celtics just went through these last series
in the Eastern Conference, like well, this guy didn't play
and this guy didn't play, and this was a problem.
They still play defense. You still have to go win games,
and they you watched it yesterday, even when the lead
got out to twelve, still it was a After the
(23:56):
early couple of minutes, every shot was contested they were
flying and around you had Williams gut out twenty four minutes.
His health remains a concern. We've talked about that for weeks,
but suddenly thinking Al Horford just because it's his birthday today,
Happy birthday, Al Horford is gonna get old overnight. He
and Chris Paul's that extra year is gonna get you.
(24:18):
I'm just kidding. But but to think these guys are
all of a sudden just gonna become, you know, just
a guy the Jags instead of putting up and competing
with you, the the hubris, the dismissiveness was was unseemly
and and fairly pathetic on on all their behalfs. I
(24:40):
I just want to see what it's gonna look like
if they lose Game two, it's still gonna be everything
is fine because then and this is this is the
thing about narratives right in the NBA playoffs, because you
can sit here, if you're the Warriors, and sit back
and go it's fine. It's fine, it's fine. We're not concerned.
We're not concerned. Everything is good there. That's not gonna
happen again. Okay, they I'm back and win Game two,
(25:01):
all right, they buy themselves a stay because then the
series goes back to Boston and we see how things
go from there. Right, But if they lose game two,
suddenly the narrative flips and it's are you really treating
the finals as series as it should be? Right? As
Rick Buker told us last night, Suddenly is it a
good idea for Draymond Green to be talking about his
podcast as much as it is? Does he look like
he's invested as much as he should be in the Warriors?
(25:24):
You told me there was nothing to worry about, and
you lose game two? Does this mean you didn't make
any adjustments? You try to do the same thing over again,
thinking you're just gonna get a different result. This is
what happens. This is the danger of saying we're fine,
we're fine, we're fine, we're fine, because you're gambling. You're
gambling that you're just gonna wind up being right. Meanwhile,
you could have a different push and say, hey, they
did this, we will be better in game two. This
(25:46):
is what's going to happen, all right. But when you
want to blow it off and everybody's blowing it off, right,
Clay Thompson blew it off, Steve kerb blew it off there. Okay,
the danger after that second game, after that next game,
if you don't adjust all those things I just said,
are gonna come home to roost and suddenly it's gonna
be a long time between game two in game three
and you're wondering about the direction of the Warriors. Are
they all still bought in? Should Draymond Green still be
(26:09):
on the team, Should Draymond be elsewhere? Next year, that's
gonna be on TV shows on Monday and Tuesday, and
Draymond's gonna get on Twitter and get upset with whoever
said it, and then the guys are gonna go back
in them and say, oh, why would you do this?
Pay attention to what you're doing. That's gonna be what happens,
because that's the danger. When you decide to go everything
is fine, don't worry about it. It's very very dangerous.
(26:29):
You gotta hope that it turns out that way. Yeah,
I think in the end, you know, talking distractions, I
only pay it a little bit of mine, but it's
more just the all right, you don't need to become
the full on blow hard now right, you can You
can play the series and then chirp all you on.
But you know, yesterday was a you know, I was
(26:51):
waiting for them to put up the lower third to say,
listen to my podcast or I go in more in
depth about how pedestrian these players are and how they'll
fall act to earth whereas we the mighty Warriors will rise, Like, hey, Draymond,
how's Jordan Poole gonna start playing defense? Are those young
guys actually gonna get minutes and substantive minutes Ken Klay
(27:13):
Thompson played thirty nine minutes tonight and be effective all
the way through. Those are the important questions, whether you
want to fight with Skip and Shannon or Colin or
you and me or anybody else in the media, like whatever,
Just you still have a job to do. Uh. And
if it were to go asunder here and they get
(27:34):
beaten in this series and go down, uh, you know,
in in easy fashion, then yeah, all of those questions
are fair valid and I can't wait to hear what
the podcast would be after that. It's like, let it
give us a chance. They turned on us, You turned
on us, you didn't respect our greatness. Well, finish your game.
(27:57):
Tell me you dominated forty two minutes. That's right, you
know what? You play Twitter and out about a fresca.

(29:05):
The Jason Smith Show with my best friend Mike Harmon,
Cody Bellinger, a two run homer, Dodgers lead the Mets
to nothing again. I got a bad feeling about this
entire series. But are you just gonna quote Han Solo
all night and right? Well, they all say it's not
just Hans Solo. They all say got a bad feeling.
Everybody says that they also have a bad feeling about it.
(29:25):
It's not just him. Credit to him, it's in effort.
Everybody got a bad feeling about In other words, the
writers get a little bit lazy. Why don't we have
somebody else say I got a bad feeling about this?
Oh great, it sounds terrific. Yeah, let's do it. Uh
A bit that's making the rounds today, and I wanted
(29:45):
to get to get into this because this is something
we can kind of pull back the curtain on for
you here. Uh. During the Celtics comeback last night against
the Warriors in the fourth quarter, Mark Jones was doing
the game for a B scene. Mark Jones been a
play by play guy for almost going on thirty years now. Uh.
You know, there were some big COVID issues that ESPN
(30:06):
and ABC had, so they had you know backup crews
coming in and Mark Jones wasn't scheduled through the game,
but he wound up doing the game because Mike Breen
missed it. And uh, here's what Mark Jones said during
the midst of a flurry of Celtics points that really
has a lot of people going, wait, he said, what
the Celtics have stormed ahead, this insurrection has them leading
(30:30):
by leven. He really said the an insurrection as them
leading by a leven. It's like, wait, what, dude, will
you speak for a living You actually said a basketball
game a comeback was an insurrection? All right. Now, obviously
you hear the word insurrection, you think of January six,
(30:51):
a couple of years ago and the mob that stormed
the capital, the people that wound up dying, and you
think it's a good idea to say, oh, it's an
insurrection by that whoa I get that insurrection is a
word that up until uh January six. No, it was
just it was a word, right, It wasn't anything that
did violent uprising against the government or but you but
(31:15):
you didn't have a specific thing to tie you to. Now,
we had one of the darkest days in American history
to tie you to and he thought that was something
I can say it. And you know the reason I
want to top of this because we can, you know,
to pull the curtain back for you a little bit here,
is that one of the things, one of the most
valuable things that people who talk for a living can possess.
And it's something I'd like to think I have. I
(31:37):
like to think all of us have it. You know
some of us do. But the most valuable thing you
can have at times is an emergency break. And understand that,
do I really want to say this even if it
makes you sound weird for a second, Like if you
think you want to say that and the Celtics this
come back, this, and the word insurrection goes in your
head and to have that emergency break to go, uh,
(32:00):
probably don't want to say that. Maybe I say something else,
is this comeback is incredible? And you know you sound
weird for a second. But the the alternate is you
actually it's an insurrection and it's and it's something that
that people look at you go, what the what? How
do you complain what's going on? And you get a
lot of smoke and you get a lot of fire
(32:20):
that you don't want and and sometimes you gotta have
that even if you sound weird for a second. I
get that insurrections of word that's on people's minds. And
there's sometimes that that that that word or phrase that
pushes its way to the front of your head and
you wind up saying it just because it's been something
that's on your mind or you're thinking about it. Uh,
you know, I get that that happens. But I'll tell
(32:41):
you what you've seen. The world the last year's littered
with former people who talk for a living, who couldn't
pull that emergency brake in time and and couldn't stop
themselves and goh, nope, don't want to say that all
right now. I don't know where the line is, right,
I really don't. I don't know where the line is
when something is said that's going to wind up being
(33:01):
a big deal or something that's going to not be
a big deal, something where okay, this happened, Boy, this
person sounds like a lunatic, and then you see what
the reaction is. Sometimes it's a big deal, sometimes it
isn't right. But what I'm saying is what you know,
do what Mike and I do. I don't know where
the line is. So always think is is that a win?
Can can I get a win? There is there a
victory there and and and there isn't And you've got
(33:22):
to have that emergency break because sometimes it can cost
you your career. Now, luckily for Mark Jones, so far
everything is okay. I mean, I don't know. Is he
gonna do another finals game at some point? I don't know.
Maybe that's something they say, maybe we don't want to
give him another job assignment like that. Again, maybe it
hurts him in the future, but for right now, things
seem to be all right ish for him. But if
you can't pull that brake man, you can get a
(33:43):
lot of trouble. Yeah, he's He's had a couple of
other questionable quotes and social media posts, uh going back
to uh some of the instances of uh well at
the at the height of the police East activity and
protests across the land. Uh going back to that in
(34:07):
so uh not not the first time he's he's decided
to make his feelings, uh know, and and look right
to opinions right to where you are. But inserting that
particular word that it's a very uh loaded choice to
decide to do it. There again, his prerogative, and obviously
for ABC ESPN, there's if the COVID hit of the
(34:30):
First Team continues to decide whether Mark Jones is back
on the broadcast. But but certainly to your point, self editing, monitoring,
and it always goes back to is this a win? Right?
Does it cause me more than what the win is?
If I say this twitter at, how about a fresca?
(34:50):
Mike has swollen down The Jason Smith Show with Mike
Harmon Live Happy Friday Night. Uh coming up next? There
could be a big change coming to the NBA. A
commissioner Adam Silver said it, and it would be a
great change. That's next Fox
