You're listening to Fox Sports Radio Fox Sports Radio The
Jason Smith Show with my best friend Mike Harmon live
from the Fox Sports Radio Studios. I will have more
from the Almost No Hitter coming up in a couple
of minutes, but you know, just to continue on for
a couple minutes of conversation. We had about Lebron James

(00:44):
a few minutes ago, right out of the new episode
of The Shop that debutsed later on this week. He
was asked who we'd like to play four teams in
the playoffs now, and he's, well, my first team is
the Lakers. But the other teams that he gets more
excited talking about where the Heat and the Warriors, all
right like, and you know that Lebron really wants to

(01:05):
go there or wants to leave the Lakers because after
he says, well, my first team is the Lakers, but
let me go on and on about the Warriors and
the Heat to talk about how much fun that would be. Right,
Let's play it back again, and this is the question.
And here's Lebron who could have said lots of things
about the Lakers and said and said how this offseason

(01:25):
is big, and Anthony Davis and I and we were
planning on coming back and being better. But when he
gets asked the question, he saves all the big extemporaneous
answer for the Warriors. Of the teams love playing, which
one would you want to play for? Oh my god,
maps map shot of me over right here. Yeah, team
I would love to play for is not in the playoffs,

(01:46):
which is the Lakers. But if it was one team
that I know I could make a media impact in
the postseason and we could be very special. It be
to be miamire go and stay for sure. And I
like the way Draymond talked to guys to like I
don't mind. Yeah, yeah, I would love that, like that

(02:10):
type of like I love with somebody custom to like
if I'm not doing like I will love that with Draymond. Okay,
So if you keeping track. The first team is the Lakers.
That is a two and a half second answer. The
heat and the Warriors that's over twenty five seconds, just
so you know, all right, Look, I don't say Lebron
needs to be traded or leave the team just for

(02:31):
hot takes sake, Right. I know sometimes if I have
a great hot take, I always tell you, hey, I
got a great hot take for this is a great
hot take. But tell me how it's gonna get better
for the Lakers. Right. I gave you the example. Darvin
Hamm goes on and on about how much he needs
from Anthony Davis this year. What's the first thing we
hear from Anthony Davis. Haven't touched the basketball in months.
It's not gonna change. Back out there down buddy, Right,

(02:52):
he got pressured back in there. You got bullied into
that courtroom. I'll go take some shots. Can you just hurt?
He just put posted Instagram? Just show me just taking
a shot at least so I get everybody off my background.
That's the first response. Nothing is going to change. Things
aren't going to get better. I don't know why people
think just a magic Wanda is gonna get waived and
the Lakers will be better this year unless they make

(03:15):
some kind of trade because other teams in the league
feel bad for them. They're not They're gonna be even
worse than they were this year because the guys are
a year older. A d is not gonna suddenly get healthier.
He's going to miss games. Lebron is going to miss games.
The fan base has had it with him. The front
office has had it with Lebron and Clutch Sports and

(03:35):
and the big wrestling match over direction of the franchise.
Who's the third star? Well, we want Russell Westbrook. Now
they get Russell Westbrook. Russell Westbrook hasn't worked out. And
of course I'm opting in because I'm never gonna get
a pay day again, So of course I'm taking that
forty seven million dollars for this year. The Lakers are
a mess. The only way out for both of them.
This is why I say Lebron needs to move on,

(03:56):
either be traded or leave after this year, is because
this is what's best for both sides. The Lakers are
never going to be able to reset and move on
until they clear out from the Lebron Anthony Davis era.
And this is letting Lebron go and freeing up his
money and trading Anthony Davis because A D is not
going to be a new guy getting to the age

(04:19):
of thirty. He's as dominant as he is, because this
is kind of the player he's been. He's not gonna
suddenly work harder and be in the gym and become
a complete player. I give James Harden a lot of credit.
I never thought he was gonna be that guy, but
he was for a few years. He became a better player,
he worked at it. I mean, now James Harden can't
can't stand with the team for more than five minutes
before upsetting somebody. But for five years with the Rockets, hey,

(04:42):
James Harden did it. A d is not that guy.
We know he's not, so it's better off you trade
him now when he's got some kind of value. This
year is going to suck anyway. The Lakers are gonna
stink if you can't move on from Lebron James with
a trade. Don't all from the contract extension in the summer.
He may not even accepted. Both sides need to move on.

(05:02):
The Lakers need to reset, and Lebron he wants more
of a celebratory fund ending to his career. Is he
gonna get that in l A. No, he's not. He
won a championship and the fans still don't like him. Alright,
well it's very very difficult for So where does he
get that celebratory ending? Someplace else? Right? So he floats
out Miami. Meanwhile pat Riley saying, this guy shows up,

(05:26):
we're gonna fight, and then he says Golden State and
they're going, we're one win away from the finals without you, man,
we we don't need Lebron. Sorry, We're we're all good
up here. But it's going to be someplace else, right.
I tell you the place he's gonna wind up doing.
He's gonna do the last couple of years in Cleveland
because he can have the influence in Cleveland he wants.
He'll be able to tell the Cavaliers go draft Brawny
and he's gonna play a year with us. And I'm sorry,

(05:46):
but this is what he's doing. I'm bringing this to you,
and that's where he's gonna wind up going. He's got
to find a way to have a better, more celebratory
end of his career, and it's simply not going to
be with the Lakers. It's gonna be another year of
bad pr and it's Lebron's fault and everything he tries
to do is not going to be appreciated. It's just
no longer a good fit. And this is where divorce happens,

(06:08):
and it's best for both sides. So this is why
I say, Hey, it's best for the Lakers to trade
Lebron or don't offer from a deal, move on from
him after this year, move on from Anthony Davis. This
is what's gonna be best for both sides. Thirty three
and forty nine, thirty one games behind your Phoenix Suns
for the top spot in the Western Conference. Just kinda
put things in perspective how horribly this season went, because

(06:33):
you know, the stink might have been starting to leave
now a couple of things just so, so we just
put the principles here. Lebron James knowing exactly what he's doing. Hey,
it's the middle of the NBA Finals, and by time
this actually airs, the Finals might be over. So leak
a bunch of stuff that will get people talking about me. Okay,

(06:53):
I want people thinking about my destinations, my history, where
I rank right especially it's Steph on the cusp of
another title, you know, because everybody wants to now do
exactly what we said. Man I I it's like I
wrote the script for stuff yesterday in terms of the
discussion points that we're gonna be there. Good job by me,
but the the idea that, you know, Lebron was gonna

(07:17):
sit quietly through the finals and just maybe post on
Twitter once in a while, Oh, good job nicely, No,
no new It's how many headlines did you see on websites? Hey,
Lebron chimed in on the latest Warriors win, or Lebron
chimed in on Jayson Tatum and the Celtics, all of
that stuff time and time again. He also at the

(07:37):
end of the the title run, I I gotta say,
and I'm not feeling terribly much sympathy, but because I'm
not a big parade goer. But the fact that they
never got to really do a celebratory thing for that
title other than hey, we get our rings the next
year and then we gotta play a game, right. They
didn't get that ability to get some ducks from Wisconsin

(08:01):
out here to to ride through the street and then
go into the water and roll around. No, they didn't
get any of that, So they kind of got jobs,
which means some of that, Hey, we would have embraced
you because we got to celebrate with you as a champion.
They never got They never got that hug. I never
got to the speech or a guy that was the
equivalent of a dancing Mark Madson out there for him.
You didn't get any of that. Folks are wondering, who's

(08:23):
Mark Matson looking up looking at Mark Matts and uh
and Shaquille o'neially getting it done right and legend in
Los Angeles for sure, good guy. I always enjoyed talking
to him back in the day. But you know, for
Lebron James going forward, I mean bringing in Darvin Ham
from all reports and from everything that had been out there,
that was his choice. So he got his guy. Now

(08:45):
it just becomes a question if it really goes as
badly as almost expect, because how much roster overall can
you get? And if I see another random trade scenario
for Russell Westbrook just because the contracts matchup, John Wall,
They're listening to you. Everybody's trying to make John Wall happen.
Don't like basketball. But like I said, it's street clothes

(09:07):
more than if it's like I always say, if I
know what I have in my left hand doesn't work,
is what's in your right hand gonna work? I don't know.
We gotta try it, but it's probably not gonna work. Yeah,
but I know you're doing it doesn't work, Do something
even if it's wrong. But this could be an abject failure.

(09:27):
He may never actually step on a basketball court, but
you know what, they won't have Russell Westbroom to kick
around in this town. No, this is not No, this
is I know if I know something, it's it's like
it's like when you plug your phone into a charger. Right.
We got a couple of chargers here. Uh is this
this one? It's just it's broken. It doesn't come from
that really start to get hot. It charges really slight

(09:48):
and charges really slowly. It's not working. What about this
other charger? I haven't used it in a long time.
How long has been since you used it? I don't know,
a couple of years. I'll try that charger because it
can't be any worse than the charger that I got
that's got a rate ending on it that takes like
six hours to charge. It makes the phone hot. I'll
try the other one because hey, it may be better,
it might not be better, but I know this one stinks,

(10:09):
so I'm gonna go with the other one. Okay, Yeah, no,
I get it. I don't know about the analogy, but
that's fine. That that'll that'll work. You got it done.
But yeah, you're stuck with Russell Westbrook as it stands.
And obviously, Darvin Ham, you want to talk about prepping
for meeting with the press, that might have been the
only thing he thought about during the negotiation process and

(10:33):
after taking the job. Alright, I got a week to
figure out what my best answer is related to Russell
west And then Anthony Davis like he's a guy that
can't win because is him not touching a basketball the
biggest deal. No, I want to know if he's taking
care of the rest of his body, that's the bigger thing.
His jump shot when he actually played was still pretty good.

(10:54):
But yeah, right now, it's uh, it's a mess. And
trying to overhaul that roster with so much committed to
the those three guys and trying to figure out, all right,
is Kendrick No, I'm going to be a guy that
can actually play for you or you know you you
look at the back end of the bench, is there
anybody there that gets you excited that's gonna stay Based
on what you're gonna be able to offer them contractually,

(11:16):
it's it's potentially a mess, and there's no question about it.
So for Lebron post this year, yeah, I would leave
all my options open because you know he's gonna be
able to break the bank wherever that is. If I
could see what the most likely scenario is going to be,
I I will say this for the summer for Lebron,
the Lakers will offer him the extension just because they

(11:39):
want to put it on him if he's not gonna stay,
knowing he will not accept it right because he's not
going to sign on for another couple of years when
things are going this badly. So I will say that
they will offer it to him and he will say no,
he will play, and he will say I want to stay.
I by you know, but I want I don't know
what it's gonna be. I'm focused on this year, and

(12:00):
he wants to have all the kinds of drama, all
kinds of drama over the course of the year. I'm
focused on the year. It's all about it out in
the off season, right, because then, you know, I'm sure
he feels like I didn't really get the whole experience
of the last time I was a free agent because
I was kind of done with it because the first
time everybody criticized me for it. So he became a
free agent, went to the Lakers a couple of years ago, right,

(12:20):
So probably he handled it fine, he just didn't quite
grasp uh well, how it would be received. Yeah, I
think he wants to have another one more shot at
the apple of oh free agency, and maybe it'll be
fun and tongues will be wagging and they'll wonder where
I'm going, and I could be going to this team
and could be going to the same because the couple

(12:42):
of years ago and went to the Lakers, I was
kind of done with it. I didn't feel like I
wanted it. But now it's not ending the way I
wanted it to with the Lakers. I can clearly see that.
So yeah, I wanted He'll want the drama of this
season where he's gonna go. He wants to be able
to finish at the end and be and have a
be a celebration of Lebron and play with Braun and
he will say no, and then eventually he'll he'll go

(13:03):
as a free agent next year, and then the Lakers
will be able to move on. Right, And it's look,
this year is just gonna suck for the Lakers no
matter what. So all right, at least you have Lebron
breaking crab Dul Jabar's record in the Laker uniform. At
least you have that it stays a Laker. But it's
just gonna stink. And if that's kind of the most
likely scenario, I see, and this will be the last

(13:24):
year for Lebron James with the Lakers before he ends
up someplace else. I will say this, the two teams
that he brings up, it's interesting, not only obviously a
potential return to Miami, but you bring up the whatever
you term Jimmy Butler. One day he's a superstar, one
day he's a guy who could be a superstar. Uh.
You know, people vacillate as to how they really love

(13:47):
or don't me. I I celebrate his whole catalog, going
all the way back to his Bulls days. But he's
a guy that clearly the reputation is you gotta come
in and work, and if you're not gonna work, then
we're gonna have problems. Right, and in every stop it
was about laziness and whispers about calling out younger guys
or veterans that were resting on their laurels. So Lebron

(14:09):
seems like you know, kindred spirit. Likewise, go up to
Golden State and you head up to San Francisco and
you're you're looking at Steph Curry, Who's a guy who's
already shown I can work with another superstar. I I
can be the guy now behind the scenes, he may
have bristled, he may not have loved it, but that's

(14:30):
never been shown. Right. We never got the any data
or or quotes about not liking having Kevin Durant around
Draymond and he obviously had issue and beef. Uh well,
I wanted to you know, you wanted I wanted to
get my Jared leto joker lying in because it's really

(14:50):
the best line that he had beef. You want to beef.
But when when you look at the the construct their
stable organ zation, because it would also send a huge
message to the Lakers, Right, Okay, let's look and well
look what these guys do stability, consistency and a plan
in place. So by by picking those teams, he said,

(15:13):
a lot more than just those teams. Be sure to
catch live editions of The Jason Smith Show with Mike
Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven pm Pacific, Fox
Sports Radio The Jason Smith Show with My Big Friend
Mike Harmon. Uh. Miles Nicholas spoke following his near no hitter.

(15:35):
He loses it with two outs in the ninth inning
and two strikes. Cal Mitchell doubles over Harrison Bader's head
in center field. Uh, and look, Harrison Bader's a really
good center field right. The guys won a gold Glove. Uh.
The ball hits on the warning track for a ground
ruled double, and after the postgame, Nicholas said, quote, the

(15:55):
curveball have been pretty good all day, and maybe I
tried to overthrow it just a little bit. I left
it a little bit up. The guy put a really
good swing on it. That one just kept going. Uh.
He said, Yeah, it stinks a little bit to not
finish that out. I don't have one yet. I have
friends that have one. Would have been nice to join
that conversation. Uh. So he said, all the right things

(16:15):
following the following the game, but you can tell he
was mad. Wait, I got I got one more quote?
You got one more? I go. I can't say enough
about our defense tonight. We were everywhere we had to be.
I kind of feel like I let them down. No, no,
it's what that what you're supposed to say. That's good,
just like saying, uh, you know what, I played for

(16:35):
the Lakers. For those that are criticizing the last discussion,
because here's the thing, it's an edited television show. This
never needed to see the light of day, but it did. Ergo,
we speculate about it. And for Nicholas, I'm sorry that
he lost that. But that mustache chain combination absolutely incredible.

(16:59):
It's when a guy at three on runs again. What
do you think about it now? Watching this play again,
and I'm glad he You know he had some time
to get calm down before he spoke, because you can
tell coming out of the game he looks at his
catcher and seemed like he was mad. And it was
a play that Bader could have made. And watched the
replay of it, and I'll tell you, like I said,

(17:19):
when I tell the girl, I even told him a
practice today, we're practiced for the state tournament, and I
tell my outfield is your first step has to be
back because you can always come in. That first steps
gotta be back. When I hit one, uh do an
infield nowt field that went over her head in the
outfield and more my outfields, you gotta go back. First
steps gotta be back. You would have had it, did
you watch? No, you gotta go out no, no, no, no, no, no. Animated.

(17:41):
Now if the game was tomorrow, if our if our
state at the state tournament was tomorrow, I would maybe
a little bit more animated. But we have a few
we have a few weeks start. Then now you're gonna
gonna keep hitting it you until you make the play.
You're just gonna keep taking all my not getting to
field any fly balls, coach, I'm making a point. Uh
watch Bader and center field. He gets a really bad

(18:04):
jump on the ball. He doesn't go But like that's
why I say, your first step is back. You can
always come in. His first step is not back, it's
kind of two or three steps to the side, and
then he starts running back, right. I mean, you want
watch it, And that's exactly what he does. He takes
a couple of steps to the side, and then he
starts running back and he's and he almost got there,

(18:26):
had he had the had he had the normal jump. Hey,
my first step is back. He goes back there, he
makes the catch. It's a bit of a running catch,
but it's a running catch on the warning track, and
Nicholas has the no hitter. Eric Burns retweeted my tweet
about being able to you know, your first step is
always back because you can always come in. I mean,
that was the that was the play. I mean, that
was the right thing to do. And you can see

(18:47):
him he kind of takes a couple of steps then
starts going back and he's cooked. Here's a play by
play on St. Louis Radio. Another too, two pitch swinging
a five on the center and her back on this
one here that's over his reach and goes over the
wall for an automatic double and cal Mitchell with a
two bagger with two strikes and two outs and nine

(19:10):
that breaks up the no hitter. What a thrill. Would
have been the first no hitter in Cardinals for the
Cardinals since Bud Smith beat the Pocket for Nothing twenty
one years ago. Two thousand and one, Bud Smith through

(19:31):
a no hitter that would have been the first Cardinals
writer since then. And yeah, bater makes it made it
makes it bad play. Even great players, even gold glove
center fielders, don't make the right play all the time.
He got a bad jump, he didn't go back, and
it's I mean, look, he he tried as hard as
he could to get it. You know, he went up.
Did I mean this is not like, hey, I'm not

(19:52):
gonna get it's just gonna bounce. Uh No, No, he tried,
but a little bit a better player, better jump, a
more correct jump, he would have had the ball. Yeah,
And he almost looked turned around and looked back towards
the mound as if to say he was sorry, Hey,
I'm sorry man, just just kind of the wide eyed
looked that he had on his face. Now, I would
be remiss if you did a Twitter search for Nicholas.

(20:14):
There's a couple of tweets I wanted to bring out
number one. You mentioned rooster earlier, based on the mustache.
Uh there's a couple of mock ups that give him
headphones and flight classes and not the full uniform, but
at least something that looks like the constructive one. Uh.
And then one of their fans who has really felt
let down by this uh quote, you're literally down nine one,

(20:37):
just blanket strike out. Give Michoelas to no hitter, Mike,
you calt Mitchell, I hope you have a terrible day.
They've been on my homeland Twitter out of Fresca, Mike
and swollen do just give him the no hitter? With
prices sore at the pump Discovers got your back with

(20:58):
cash back. He was discovered to earn five percent cash
back at gas stations and Target now through June on
up to in purchases when you activate. Learn more at
discovered dot com. Slash rewards limitations they do apply. Uh. Well,
we'll have more on the no hitter coming up. I'm
sure Harrison Bader will talk and say, yeah, man, my fault.
But um, a bit of big news in the NFL

(21:18):
today because it looks like one big holdout potentially we
could see may not happen. Arizona Cardinals head coach Cliff
Kingsbury said that he is praying that Kyler Murray signs
his contract sometime this summer and comes back and place
quarterback for the Cardinals all the way through the fall
and everything is great, he said. The team is ready
to make him the highest paid player in Arizona Cardinals history. Now,

(21:43):
if your Murray, you're saying, yeah, I don't care about that.
I want to be paid like Josh Allen in my homes.
He's got a little bit of an unrealistic look at
how good of a quarterback he is. He's a periphery
top ten quarterback. He's not a top five quarterback right so,
but it looks like he's gonna get his money. The
Cardinals want to give it to him, and this is
going to go up. Yes, he's got a self inflated

(22:03):
opinion about himself, but that's where he is. It's an
easy thing for me for the Cardinals to say to
sign Kyler Murray because the question is how easy is
it gonna be for you to replace him and get
better play that? That's always the question I asked, boy,
when to replace the quarterback? Uh, Kyler Murray Periphrey top ten,
It's gonna be really hard to get better than Kyler Murray.

(22:24):
So yeah, so you signed the guy. Even though he's
a little overrated. He thinks he's better than he is.
Um No, he's very difficult to get better than Kyler Murray.
So I would. So that's why I get I'm with
you on the Cardinals, And if I was Murray, I
would sign it and I wouldn't hesitate. Why because the
NFL has told us what they think of Kyler Murray.

(22:44):
When Murray first scrubbed the Cardinals from his Instagram and
we knew he was upset with the team, did anybody
go crazy to call the Cardinals to say, hey, what
do you want for him? Like it did for Aaron
Rodgers or Russell Wilson. Did anybody do that for Kyle
the Murray? Kyler Murray is a quarterback who's twenty four
years old, Right, guys, been the Pro Bowl a couple
of times. Uh, Kyler Murray number one overall pick car.

(23:08):
Cardinals have had a pretty good run the last couple
of years with him. Did anybody call and try to
overwhelm the Cardinals with an offer and say, Hey, we're
gonna give you all the if he's unhappy, We're gonna
give you all these picks for him. No, nobody. There
was no If Cardinals part with Kyler Murray, so and
such teams are interested nobody. So the NFL, I told
you how interested they would be at making an F

(23:29):
them picks offer for Kyler Murca. This isn't gonna be hey, here,
we'll give you a second round pick and you give
us Kyler Murray. It would be an F M picks offer.
And here's teams that that basically have said, yeah, we're
not He's not a guy who want to make an
F them picks offer for So the league's kind of
said the we like him, but we don't like him
that much. So yeah, signed with the Cardinals. Yeah, I
just think you had the Cardinals and basically said we

(23:51):
have no desire to move on from him. Right. That's
been the public stance and the few opportunities you've had
from kime Uh and Kingsbury along this process us and
now it's just a question of how you get it
to come to culmination with a lot of these other
quarterbacks like, yeah, we like you, but certainly we're willing
to move on, particularly if you're gonna be obstinate and
over the top on it, like Kyler Murray did the

(24:13):
thing with his Instagram and some argued that, well that's
something young kids do. They just purge from time. I
don't know. I'm not I'm not that age, and and
my kids aren't as active, at least in the accounts
i'm aware of to where they'd be doing that and
participating in such a purge. But at no point did
it seem that he was going to be on the block,

(24:35):
unless under cover of night someone really came over the
top with picks. I mean, they resigned Kingsbury. And if
you'd already decided that's your guy, then how do you
tell Kyler Murray he's not your guy too? I don't
get it right. I mean, if you're gonna blame about you,
what are you saying all the second half? What was there?
Just the quarterback, even though the coach hasn't going all
the way back to his collegiate days. I mean, that's

(24:56):
that's that's problematic for me. But it is a a situation.
Get it resolved. UM, just gotta figure out what that
second half looks like and trying to figure out ways
to keep him healthy and rolling. I know he's been
available for games right, being able to play versus being
injured while playing them are two completely different things. And

(25:17):
Kyler Murray after that ankle injury, Uh, you only saw
sporadic instances where he was willing to take off and
run and had that explosiveness in the burst and obviously
not having DeAndre Hopkins not exactly helping things along the way.
So we've got suspensions, We've got a bit of chaos
to start the season. Uh So expect a lot of

(25:39):
zach Ertz and whatever the running back situation is. Uh,
not to mention Hollywood, Brown will run a nice vertical
line for you to go and throw it downfield. But
I'm curious to see what the retooled offense looks like.
Just get him done, uh and like and even if
they don't, you know what, Just like we talked about
with Lamar Jackson yesterday, you start getting into the alright,

(26:01):
we franchise tag and even though players make grouse about
it publicly, that's a hell of a lot of money
for a single year that goes into your coffers and
then you get to do it again. Be sure to

I was very nervous Mike Harmon, but now I feel okay.
Noah's Syndergard was okay to pitch tonight for the I
didn't know if he was gonna pitch because you know,
he was scheduled to pitch against the Mets, and somehow, hey,
we gotta push him a couple of days. Oh can't

(27:29):
pitch against his former teav even though he likes to
run his mouth. I was hoping he was. He turned
out to be okay, and he just comes out of
the game tonight just now, Uh, Dodgers leading the Angels one.
Nothing looked like he was good walking off the mound,
looked looked like he's healthy. So you're concerns about Noah Syndergard,
you don't need to have them. He is. Yeah, I know.

(27:50):
I was worried. I mean more so because you were
going to go to that game on Saturday and you
were really looking forward to giving it to him good
and then you didn't get to do that, which saved
your voice, which is good for you as a coach
and certainly as a broadcaster. Now, Syndergard did have eighty
two pitches on the night, fifty three for strikes. Uh,

(28:11):
you had the walk drawn by Turner, as Brian Finley
told us, uh a little while ago, to walk in
the run. So on the other side, you got the
cat Tony Gonsolin, who's just been ridiculous as e r
A currently sitting at one four, five, five strikeouts, just
one hit aloud through his five innings of work. Fantastic

(28:32):
stuff because they needed an ace because injuries have claimed
all your usual top notch starters, Gonslin getting it done Twitter,
and how about a Fresco Mike hat Swollen on the
Jason Smith Show with Mike car Enough more on this
game between the Angels and Dodgers coming up, but uh,
today was a big day for the Washington Commanders because

(28:53):
Jack del Rio apologized to the team for his comments
a week ago calling the January six insurrection a dust up.
Head coach Ron Rivera was asked about it following and
he said, listen, his apology was pretty well received. Jack
spoke to the team this morning during the team meeting.
He was very open, very fortright, very contrite, and apologized,

(29:15):
open himself up to questions. He has already met with
with with some of our players and talked to some
of them about what was said. I've been told those
meeting went very very well, and so I'm very pleased
with that. All right, So now it looks like it's
over for now, and you know, now, for now, for now,
for now, I'm still the headmaster for now. But this

(29:36):
is a lesson that one of the biggest ones you
can learn as a public figure. Because what did Jack
del Rio do over the weekend? He deleted Twitter, which
is smart because all public figures need to know that
social media is not for everyone. Al Right, social media
is a skill. You have to be skilled at it.

(29:57):
You don't have to be that skilled at it, but
it is this skill. How many people have suffered and
had their careers suffer because they can't master social media.
They can't stay away from saying something that is going
to be a third rail type comment, right, whether it
was whether it's politicians, which we see them have it
happen to them all the time, entertainment figures, sports figures.

(30:20):
I I want to get on social media and say this,
and then things get out of control and you lose
your career or you hurt your career because you just
have to say something that you're not an expert on. Right,
And Jack delrig wanted to go on and say, wait,
all these other things, why are we talking about this
thing that dust up? Right? Had he just said, why
are we not talking about these other things we should

(30:41):
be talking about as much as we talk about January six?
But no, he wants to call it a dust up,
which completely is an insult to people who lost their
lives and what happened that day. Um, social media is
a skill. You're not blowing off steam with friends, You're
not hanging out on Twitter. Where did you know what
you want? You want a group tech, you want a
group text where these things aren't gonna be made public.

(31:03):
When you speak on Twitter, it is public. When you
are a public figure, your comments are going to be analyzed.
And this is why Jack del Rio is where he
is holding onto his job by his fingernails, with a
hundred thousand dollar fine and having to delete Twitter and
hurting his reputation because you've got to think before you
want to put something out there if it's not in
your wheelhouse, be smart about it. Right. Messages are public statements,

(31:27):
and too many people treat Twitter like well, I just
want to vent about this because why is no one
asking this question? That's not what Twitter is? Right? You
want to sit at dinner with your friends and have
that get out there, right, That's how you get that out.
That's how you get that out of your system. If
you want to say you say that dinner with your friends,
you say it with your wife, say with your family.
People just don't understand what it means when they make
a big statement on social media. And again, like I

(31:49):
say to people all the time. We haven't gotten vaccinated
in ten years. If you've lost your career, you've lost
your life, And I'm gonna say, was it worth it
for you? I would say the same thing to people
on social media. Look at what happened. Was it worth
it for you to put that tweet out? Was it
really worth it for you to lose what you had?
I have to work because you had to put that
thought out on social media? Was it really worth it?
Because that's this situation right now with Jack del Rio.

(32:10):
He did the smart thing in deleting a social media
account because it's not for everyone. Yeah, look, part of
the conditions of moving forward and staying employed by the commanders,
I'm sure had something to do with that. I I
don't know that it was completely a you know what,
this probably isn't for me kind of moment for Jack
del Rio. Likewise, talking to the players, Sure many walked

(32:30):
away feeling okay, we've addressed it. But did they walk
away a hundred percent satisfied? You know, sometimes you can't
unwring a bell. So those that uh really were impacted
and affected by what he had to say in that
locker room, there's still is still gonna be some bit
of a fracture going forward. And just to your point
about group text or whatever else that's still in writing, man,

(32:52):
that can still come back. Yeah, but usually you don't
get people say here's that. Usually that's only something that
happens in entertainment, when all I'm saying is there may
be a fun, all out situation and all of a
sudden boom there it is, so just you know that
that kind of thing. So and look even at your
dinner parties, make sure it's a jeter kind of environment.

(33:12):
Nobody's got a phone, it's running going on. And then
say what you gonna say? Twitter? And how about a fresca?
