(00:23):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio. Greetings, Welcome in. Second
half of the show begins the disco ball still spinning,
marching band on the field, refusing to yield. Yeah, I'm
getting a little American pie in where I can because
I'm watching the White Sox meltdown on me again. Welcome in.
(00:44):
Jason Smith is off tonight Mike Harmon alongside Dan Buyer,
my tag team partner on the I Watch re Flex
podcast here in weekdays with Doug Gottlieb on the Network
twelve to three Pacific. Dan, how are we doing, Buddy?
I am magnificent, Mike, excited to be we few NBA
draft on the horizon. So much to get to, and
(01:05):
obviously football season starting closer and closer with the Gronk news.
Now you're thinking about this, thinking about that. Fantasy football drafts,
by the way, start planning with your buddies. Um, we
actually were able to get a date this year for
a draft. You have to fight too much over so,
so I think we're good. So that's so that's a
(01:25):
promising start to a fantasy football season. I'm getting ready
to start. I'm back in a few of the the
expert leagues as they uh, and one of them is
the FAD League, which is the fan x Analysis Draft.
So we'll do the live draft and with each pick
we have to tell you why we did it. Uh,
and then you get to Marcus living and Living color
(01:45):
As it is a long, slow draft that will commence
here in short order. I'll give you all the details
at Swollen Dome on Twitter. Earlier in the show, I
did talk about the pay per view event that I purchased,
and I forgot to finish off the story. So my
daughter is in a soccer tournament in Dallas, d ninety
seven degrees, all of that stuff, playing very early in
(02:08):
the morning so they can avoid the bulk of the
Texas heat all right afternoon the morning. That's what we're
it's at tomorrow Tomorrow mornings. Games. I kid you not.
Starts at six am Pacific, So at eight am kickoff
there in in Dallas, all excited. It was really funny
(02:30):
at the airport dropping her off yesterday. All the teammates,
you know, hugs and and and you know, a tear
or two from some of them that have never traveled
away from the parents with a group or you know whatever. Uh,
and then mine just kind of mean mugg me and
you know, nodded like, all right, daylet it's a business trip. Well,
well that's what we called it. Wait that we've been
(02:52):
talking about that for weeks, Like, you guys have expectations.
You guys have played really well. Now it's a business trip. Yeah,
you'll get to do some fun stuff. She'll get to
your grandparents out there and and you know, on her
mom's side and everything, and that's all fine and good,
but in the end, your jobs to go and shut
down the opponents go to work. So I paid for
the pay per view and I was with on line
(03:15):
with their tech support pretty much the entire match. Like
here's another example of the camera not moving to actually
show me what's going on. So you're not well spent
that well, I mean I got to hear some great
coaching from her coach, and a coach that if I
were doing the anti recruiting on I would be using
(03:37):
this guy's audio of how he dealt with his kids,
the opponent's coach as the you want to go play
for this guy? Really, you're not gonna way for this guy?
You know. Here's here's the funny thing is you said
this earlier, and I thought to myself, man, you're having
to pay to watch you know, high school sports fourteen
(03:58):
year old. Yeah, yeah, this isn't Sunday ticket. This isn't
the MLB package or you know, center ice for the NHL,
or leak pads for the NBA. But then I thought
about it even more, and I thought to myself, you
know what, it probably actually makes more sense than any
of the professional packages. Why should I have to pay
three dollars to watch the NFL games? Why can't we
(04:20):
figure out a way to make it a little cheaper. However,
of course, if you can't make the trip, you know,
across two time zones to watch your daughter, thirty five
dollars is actually probably a bargain. No, that's you were
able to in the club fee you paid obviously for
their travel and whatever events meals and outings and everything,
and then you have to watch it from wherever parts unknown. Uh.
(04:44):
You know, your thirty five bucks for the events, so
for all the weekends tournaments, including replays and whatever. It's
all there. But it's just one of those. The technology
is fantastic to a point. And I've seen this in
other apps, and I have a camera that does the
same thing. You've seen it in action here, and folks
that have watched this on social media during you know
(05:06):
video streams that we've done in the past. Right, it's
something that has the auto focus, but sometimes it's slow
to do it right as you're speaking and to zoom
back out. In this case, a lot of the camera
work is done with the center line right, with the
midfield pretty much in perspective. Like my daughter launched a
free kick and you could hear the screaming and the
(05:29):
excitement of the fans, but you never actually saw the goal.
Weeking scored on the other end after a couple of touches,
like that was a good play because you can tell
it was a good ball, Like, oh, she laid it
up beautifully, all right, what have we got? What I
got in here? Huh? Go yeah, and it's like all right,
and then the camera starts to move that way as
they're celebrating coming back to midfield. I'm like, damn it,
(05:52):
it's because it's it actually is all making sense to
me now when you're saying this, And and maybe some
of the money that whoever puts it on needs to
go to the camera person actually pay attention to move
the camera, or maybe it's just a still camera and
just it's sitting there on a tripod and and they're
you know, up a creek. Because it's all auto. It's
(06:15):
not a guy with the joystick or a woman with
a joystick. Perhaps you should have it with the app
game to game, but we're talking about a huge, huge event,
and I'm starting to become I'm becoming a fan of
this service. Is we'll talk about it because you think
about it, like think, you're not gonna make any money
on advertising. The only way that you are going to
(06:36):
make money is to get money from a parent like
you or someone who's not willing. But if you were,
you know, like if if there was like that. You
take Texas for example, like if this package was brought
up for like high school football games, for how much
people love high school football in Texas, and you were
to sign up and maybe there already is something like this,
like this makes a lot more sense. It's your point.
(06:57):
This is the thirteen and fourteen year old soccer sort
of league. But you know, and I'm warming up to
the idea, as long as you could get everything right
and go ahead and charge them, because it's totally it's
totally worth you paying for it to see your daughter,
to see your relative, you know, play in a big
tournament that they otherwise wouldn't have to. I remember, you know,
travel little league teams. You'd always listen on the radio
(07:18):
if you if your hometown team ended up making it
to the state tournament or to the you know, to
the regionals, whatever the case is, you would turn and
tune into the radio to hear your team. You definitely
pay thirty bucks to be able to to go and
see your team, you know, your kid play. And I
wouldn't believe that there would be tons of other people,
you know, logging into that. Like you're not gonna get
(07:39):
the thousand other people, so you do have to make
it somewhat worthwhile. But I'm kind of in on this. No,
I'm completely completely in. It's just first generation technology, right,
how do you say the tweaks and the innovation will
be there? But I mean they say it's over three
thousand events over the course of a year. Right when
you think of volleyball, soccer, soft her it's basketball, etcetera. Like,
(08:02):
there's plenty of application to be had. So we need
to figure out how we get to be investors or
the mouthpieces for said services. He's Dan Buyer and for
Jason Smith, I'm Mike Carmen here Fox Sports Radio The
Jason Smith Show with Mike Carmen. If you're a valued customer,
you deserve a simple gesture of appreciation from your credit
card company. That's why I discover matches all the cash
back you've heard at the end of your first year,
(08:23):
Discover exceptionally common sense, learn more, discovered dot com slash
match limitations they do apply now with the NBA draft
less than forty eight hours away, Dan, not only do
we get to talk about all of the prospects and
and try to read the tea leaves who's given us
maybe some tells and where the intel is of how
(08:44):
the draft order will go. We look at the betting
markets and all of that fun stuff. But what it
also gives us is myriad trade rumors all across the board, right,
because we'll get into free agency, we'll see some stars moved,
no doubt, but espns Uh the Low Post podcast, you
had a discussion, right, the Lakers discussed sending and this
(09:06):
is what the point is about, you know, trade rumors
and and what they're worth. Sometimes Russell Westbrook and Taylor
Norton Tucker remember he was a hot commodity after last season,
not the most recently completed the prior season, but to
go to the Indiana Pacers and Malcolm Brogden was mentioned
as possible. The talks reportedly went nowhere. Uh, the headline
(09:33):
got me this this Bleacher Report article, Lakers rumors, Westbrook, Horton,
Tucker shop the Pacers Malcolm Brogden linked, Well, yeah, sure,
the Lakers would love to do that. He just unfortunately
left up or actually, Mike, realistically the equation and that's
of whether the Pacers would be willing to actually do
(09:54):
something like which to the point that you made the
second line of the third line of the talks went nowhere.
Of course they went nowhere because the trade is ridiculous, right,
anything involving Russell Westbrook or right now Kyrie Irving. I
just sit back and kick my feet up and say, okay,
let's go right. Jason and I talked about the Kyrie
(10:16):
stuff yesterday with all right, he wants no part of
the Knicks. Uh, and so you need to speak that
in do existence as hard as you can and lean
into it. Whatever uh good you know, vibes good, uh
karma you've got in the universe. We need him on
the Knicks because that means they got the young talent
(10:36):
they have on the roster, and Jason has to deal
with him. Uh and whatever follows from there. Look, great
player when he's on the court, But can you get
him on the court? Just stay on the court and
wondering aloud you know which guy you get? We talked
about it yesterday, of you know, is was the pandemic
indicative of the guy he's becoming? Or do you get
(10:59):
to read hit the rewind button to the guy that
won the title and take him at his word that
he regrets how he acted at the end of things
in Cleveland, etcetera. Right, do you believe that? As for
Russell Westbrook, anytime I see someone just put out a
trade roomor for that. It's like, all right, all you
did was put that in a simulator to what falls
(11:20):
within the NBA's rules of how trades need to be
accomplished in terms of dollars and cents. You know. The
ki the Kyrie stuff just on the surface, Mike to
me is you know the reason why there's there's not
a lot of feelers out there is the same reason
why the nets. You know, I don't want to give
him what he wants in a contract extension. And it's
(11:41):
that's to everything that you know that you said about.
You know who Kyrie is and what you can count on.
The other question, excuse me, that I have at least
with Kyrie is what team does he go to to
make them better when he teams up with Kevin Durant
and they get swept by the Celtics. You know what
I mean? No, tit right? You know you look out.
(12:01):
I want to be here until you won't have me anymore. Well,
and then I left, and then all of the trials
and tribulations related to COVID, to all all these other
things like taking days off, birthdays off, all of those things.
You know, hey, in isolated instances, it's fine, but then
it became just a much bigger narrative. And obviously Kyrie
(12:23):
has had some controversial statements in the past, but his
stance in terms of COVID to me was between him
and his teammates and the organization. If they came to
an agreement, they came to an agreement, and obviously you
have to try to then figure out what's best to
push things forward and can you get yourself a title
run under those circumstances. Well, right now he'll be eligible
(12:46):
to play again. So does that mean? And and certainly
the betting odds right now as the teams are currently constituted,
and expectations will will shift. But the Nets are the
second favorite only to the War years right now. Well,
and that's that's crazy. I mean it, I mean, it's
(13:06):
it's asking so much, and it also discredits anything that
anybody else has done. And I mean, because then you're
just being if if if Brooklyn's got the second best odds,
is that what it is? That's what it is right
now behind Golden State. I mean, then you're just being
lured by the by the names. I mean, And and
that's kind of the point that you know that I
(13:27):
made is I listen, I know that Ben Simmons is
gonna come in there and end up having um some
sort of role. But it was, what are you expecting?
And I'm not saying you, Mike, what I'm saying to
the person out there, what do you expect of Ben Simmons?
What do you expect of his career to turn out
to be after what it's become. Do you think it's
gonna be um? You know, perennial All Star Ben Simmons,
which I highly doubt. The point about Kyrie Irving that
(13:51):
I made is, you know, the Nets didn't really have much.
The Nets didn't have anything outside of Durant and Kyrie Irving.
Joe Harry got hurt. Um. There just wasn't anything there
and that team got you know, swept by the Celtics.
So now where does Kyrie go where he would be
able to make a team stronger, where they would contend
(14:12):
for a title? Very very few places, and what team
would be willing to risk any of that? With what
you talked about with the Nets problem, it just doesn't
seem to be a lot of a lot of fits
or a lot of reasons that a deal would make sense.
And it's the same thing with Russell Westbrook on why
a certain trade. Not not exactly, but again it's the
reason that you can't get a deal done with, you know,
(14:33):
Kyrie Irving is because the same reason no team are
gonna want to trade for him. You know, just your
why would they want your problems doesn't make sense at all. Yeah,
I mean, the beauty of it for the coming year
is a lot of it is wishing, wanting, hoping, and
not just there in Brooklyn, but in a lot of
circumstances of banking on players to return from injury to
(14:54):
the guys they once were. That's the the next next
rule as we get in to the next season, you know,
at some point, like you know, I mean, you know,
the next kind. I don't feel sorry for them at all,
but you know, because they they're the ones that they
did the hard and deal they you know, to bring
him in from Houston. They you know, signed Kyrie, they
signed Kevin Durant. Everything was gonna be great. But you know,
(15:15):
at some point as well, they I mean, they may
have to buckle and just give Kyrie what he wants
because I just don't know what the market would be.
I don't know what they would do, and then if
you don't have him, what else do you have? You know?
I mean outside of Kevin Durant obviously, but again, a
Durant and Kyrie Irving combo got you. As far as
being swept in the first round of the Eastern Conference playoffs,
I'd say it's all reliant on Joe Harris. He's Dan

Coming up on eleven Central Time six six Top of twelve,
(16:19):
White Sox and Blue Jays. Still getting after it, Dan
behind home Plate, It's still full it is the first
day of summer and they're celebrating the hell out of it.
I said that the rule of Major League Baseball should
be one team gets to start a runner on second
base in the extra innings. Defeats the purpose of having
both teams being able to I don't know, making a
(16:40):
home field advantage or something. Get these games over with
a lot quicker, then you can enjoy your long summer
nights in Chicago. Yeah, but the bars are still last
call still, so you got plenty of time. Even if
you get out of here, you still got four hours
to extend your night. Man. The a lot of runs
(17:01):
being scored. Angels and Royals right now, tied up at
seven and eight. I mean, we got some Marlins and
Rockies at a nine eight ball game. Do you think
they changed the baseball now that it's summer, Can we
start to start that They started to get shorter again.
That's the only bad thing. Yeah, uh well, you know what,
(17:21):
we'll take it as it comes. Driving into the sunshine,
coming into the Fox Sports radio studios to see the guys. Obviously,
we've got Brian Fenley, we got Frostburg, we got our
guy Alex tie shirt and do you consider the White
Sox average, I don't think you'd say they're good, But
(17:44):
what do you consider the White Sox as a team
to this point. I'm disappointed, but they're but optimism. It's
the if they get healthy nonsense that you have to
play because they've had a lot of guys go to
the I l Yeah, the fire Tony Chance were out
again earlier uh in in the game, so we gotta
remind folks that that's always swirling in the background. But
(18:05):
they've missed an awful lot of time due to injury.
And Tim Anderson, as much as he's had some really
nice hitting streaks, multi hit games, whatever, in the field,
he looks absolutely lost. He had another drifting pop up
that fell in that should have been a routine catch earlier.
I think I threw a pen at the television. The
point that John Morossi made when he was with us,
(18:28):
you know, an hour ago, was very well put that
the Central is going to be able to face the
Tigers and the Royals a bunch down the stretch. And
when you look at what the Yankees have to face
in addition to facing the Rays now and the Astros
this week, there's gonna be a bunch of series against Boston.
And that's not just the Yankees thing, that's also a
Boston thing and a Toronto thing. Yeah, I think it's
(18:48):
I think it will be interesting and and to see
how Major League Baseball, Mike, I thought ten to twelve
teams were gonna be bad, and there may actually may
and end up being like that at some point. But
bald the more is a little bit better than not
as bad bad as they were in previous years. Um,
you know the Mariners aren't great right now, but you
(19:08):
had maybe promise for them. I just I find it
interesting to see where we are at the halfway point,
what's gonna happen with the extra playoff team and if
if teams are really good, Like how top heavy is
it even even in the National League. I mean, you
talk about how stack things are in the AL East.
You look at the n L West. It's not like
the Rockies and Diamondbacks are our Reds level bad. Um,
(19:30):
But when you have the Giants, Dodgers, and Padres, those
teams are gonna be facing each other as well. Should
be should be interesting And I'm curious to see if
these these average teams and maybe average divisions can end
up making a push. Like Morrossy said, you can see
in the central Yeah, just give it another week or two,
the Reds will be past the Cubs. Yeah, the way
they in and then the Pirates. Look, I'm all excited
(19:52):
to see O'Neil cruz uh JP referenced. Did the nineties
seven mile an hour a heat around that groundball? My goodness?
As a first basement, how do you see that? You
almost have to get into their batting crouch thinking, all right,
I'm facing a fat ball here to keep an eye
on that. I mean, that's just ridiculous heat coming across
(20:13):
the diamond. But yeah, a lot of that activity and excitement,
you know, the the Orioles, they've got a lot of
young talent. We've said that for a long long time,
but now it might actually become into fruition where you've
got guys that can play just need another picture or two,
like anything. And teams still have to travel to Toronto, right,
that's still a wild card in things in terms of
(20:33):
vaccination status and all of that stuff, because that's still
no joke. Yeah, the Orioles aren't the team where you
go anymore like, okay, we need we can sweep this
and we can move on. Like, I don't think that
they are that team anymore, and I actually don't think
that there are a lot of those teams in baseball.
I mean, which is good for the game, Yes, yes,
(20:54):
because I thought it was gonna be a lot worse.
And for as bad as Cincinnati started, I mean, the
Texas had an awful start to the season in as well,
and they've you know, straightened things out as much as
you could after their slow start. There's not as as
many teams right now tanking, if you will. Let's just
put it that way, as maybe it would appear that
it doesn't mean that. And the reason I just brought
(21:16):
it up with the White Sox is because they are
sitting there hovering around five hundred. They still have a chance.
They're not like the Orioles. Like the Orioles are sitting
there with the winning percentage of four thirty something, that's
not gonna They're not gonna make a push, not in
that division. It's not gonna happen. But they're not you know,
they're not a given anymore. They're just an automatic win
for a team. There's going to be something. And when
(21:36):
you have like the Royals and Tigers. As John Morrossi said, yeah,
the White Sox could have an opportunity to make a push. Yeah,
lloy him and has only played in eleven games, although
I've seen like six or seven ads for this bobble
head on the guys in the outfield kind of having
confusion as to who's going to take it, which really
fits with some of the defense I've seen from this
(21:58):
team this year, So that works quite nicely. As we go.

I think you like it. Listen to All Ball with
Doug Gotlieb on the I Heart Radio app, Apple Podcasts
(22:41):
or wherever you get your podcast. Regarded as one of
the all time greats, just like the guy we talked
about now is Rob Gronkowski one of the great characters
of the National Football League, former teammate of ours here
in Fox Maybe he will be again. The man throws
magnificent parties and knows how to cut a rug on
the dance floor. Four times Super Bowl Champion, All Decade Honors,
(23:04):
hundredth Anniversary Honors, former seven w w E champion. Are
you like that? We get that in the mix. Man,
this guy's done it all and and now he says
I'm out, And I don't believe that he's done. His
agent said, well, if Brady calls him, I e. When
Brady calls him, it'd be hard for him to ignore it,
(23:27):
which says to me, all right, we know this, So
forget about all the platitudes, all the excitement. Second retirements.
We're gonna have three before it's all said and done.
I think that I think that you're right. I think
that I don't think that this is the end, because
I think what what happens is you get to a
point when you have these retirement conversations and you know,
(23:49):
this happened so much with with Brett Farve back in
the day. Was Brett Farve always wanted to retire and
or in March, but when June, July, and August comes around,
different story. And I know where saying that right now
on June twenty one or June and some spots are
people that are listening to this and Rob Gronkowski saying,
you know what, Yeah, I'm not ready to do that.
(24:10):
You mentioned this earlier. He's probably not ready for training camp.
He's not willing to go and do training camp. But
you stay in shape and you show up and all
of a sudden, October and November comes around and Tom
Brady makes that phone call. Yeah, yeah, I think that
there are different stages. And I think at this point, yeah,
training camp does not seem appealing for Rob Gronkowski, um,
(24:31):
just like it probably didn't in February and March coming
off of that season. But I think October is gonna
be a different story. Yeah. I mean, you go back
to the way that season ended, right if Tristan Worth's
is there, and we can always do the if butts,
but just say you've actually got your monster on the
offensive line, does that game come out differently? And after
the season you've had. That's how I didn't think Brady
(24:53):
was leaving. I think he went back and watched that once.
It was like, damn it, well, opportunity. I also just
think of you know, like and Brian of the story
about Jalen Ramsey, you know, having the shoulder surgery and
should be ready for the start of the season. But
you say to yourself, Mann, that's getting surgery in June,
and you start to start to worry. But it's also
because it's such a long season. And so if if
(25:16):
you're if you're the Buccaneers and you look at the
landscape of the NFC and you see how many good
teams there are in news flash, there aren't a ton
you just say, all right, there's longer we could get
into the tournament. Will be fine, Just like they did
two years ago and they wanted all they went on
the road the whole time. I think that's not the
goal of these NFL teams. Just figure out your team,
make sure you're set by the start of the playoffs,
(25:36):
and go from there. Yeah. It's funny because you know
a lot of the talk of the NBA Finals and
the completion with the Warriors winning it, Uh, you know,
people immediately went to the well, you're not necessarily get
her with being the number one seed and all that, Like, well,
you are to a point, especially if you're gonna spend
a lot of money as the Warriors did, and we'll
(25:56):
have to spend even more and pay out a ton
of luxury to acts money. Uh, if they're going to
continue to build and keep the roster intact. Right, so
every home date actually matters the NFL fewer home dates
for the playoffs, still sizeable, significant dollar amounts, but not
to the level of all right, we're the home team
(26:18):
over these these series all the way through right best
of sevens uh, to where each of those with especially
if we own the parking lots and everything. Now we're
really kicking up a whole other level, you know, for
the the NFL. As long as the guys back by October,
like if they're coming off an injury or mid October.
(26:39):
I mean, you're the Rams. You've got a division that's
interesting on a number of levels. But do you think
Arizona is going to suddenly figure out how to play
in the second half of the season. Cliff Kingsbury's never
showing you that you can do that. You you you've
talked about Seattle, We you and me with my bears
where we talk about it right now, we might be
battling stuff for draft. I think that's gonna be the case.
(27:03):
Carolina still doesn't have their quarterback. Um, you know, Atlanta
in that division is still going through changes. The Saints
are going through changes. Even despite their their additions, it
is still a different team than the one that uh,
you know John Payton ran when he was the head coach.
There's a lot there. I remember looking at a graphic
(27:23):
mid season, Mike, you mentioned the Seahawks and it showed
the playoff picture. This may have been in October and
they had fourteen teams there in the hunt. Yes, they
were in the hunt, the Seahawks at the time, we're
like one of the one of the two teams that
were left out that it was them in the Lions,
I believe. So they didn't even make the in the
hunt graphic when it came to the to the NFC.
(27:45):
But that just tells you as well of with so
much parody in the National Football League, you aren't out
of it. With with the amount of games. You don't
you don't need to, you don't need to be there
for the long haul. You don't just have to get
your team ready be in the playoffs and be in
the tournament and get set up and make your run there.
(28:06):
So that that's also it's not only of ground on
retiring once before. I just think it's today's NFL. It's
it's Drew Rosenhouse's comments, all of that at a plus
just Tom Brady making that phone call of why you
don't you don't see it. But I think it's even
more of just a statement on the NFL right now
on on what it means. It's it actually to me,
(28:28):
Mike makes fantasy football more difficult because you're trying to
figure out, all right, you know, are the top team
is gonna be using their running back as much for
the first part of the season they end up using
them in the second part of the season. Well great,
you're two and six and your fantasy seasons pretty much
down the tubes, you know, different for the rams and
as they try to set up and make their playoff push.
But yeah, it's it's a long, long grind and I
(28:50):
think you know, teams are setting up just to make
sure that they're good for the playoffs. See there's a
tease for one of the preseason editions of the I
