(00:23):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio. Fox Sports Radio. Welcome
inside our three, The Jason Smith Show with my best
friend Mike Harmon. The Yankees were swept by the Astros.
Yeah they were. How they gotta go get one? Sodo? Oh,
we gotta go do it. That seems like it's wrong
(00:48):
and that that won't lead and me on the back
pages of both newspapers and sports talk radio. But but
I think there is something to it in terms of
you've got to evaluate yourself against your top competition. So
while the today's games mean, well, we're just two games
fewer ahead of five hundred when we were outpacing and
(01:12):
and dominating everybody heading into the All Star break, it
may inform how you want to approach the trade deadline
and and looking ahead October. Because this is a team
you're likely to face again. See, but here's Aaron Boone saying, no, no, no, no, no, no,
no no no, let's let's let's stop. Let's stop, let's stop.
After the sweep today, Aaron Boone said this quote, I understand,
(01:36):
it's a big story. I understand. The season we're in.
It's not gonna matter unless it's October. If we happen
to come back here in October, we're gonna show up.
We're gonna expect to win. We think we're really good.
They're really good. Don't overstate this. All right, let'sten, let'sten. No,
let's nobody panic. Okay, let's not. We lost a couple
(01:56):
of games. It's okay, it's okay. Look, I understand. And
it's all about catching teams at certain times in the season.
And that's the way it goes. You know, certain times
when I go, I don't want to run into this
team now because they're playing really hot. Boy, I'd love
to run into them here they're not playing well. That's
just that's just the eedb and flow of the season.
But it's a little bit different for two teams because
(02:18):
the Astros and the Braves, these are the two teams
that just have hit a new level after starting out okay,
the first month or two of the season, but especially
the Braves. The Astros and the Braves have just become
those teams that are on a machine like path into October.
They're beating all the good teams they play. They're winning
(02:39):
three out of four games. I get the Yankees don't
want to make too much this because you're were You're
worried about your team's mental Outlook, you have a big series,
you got more games coming up against the Astros. Well,
I I get you don't want to, you know, on them,
thinking we can't beat them. But everybody the Astros have
played who's good. The Astros have beaten everybody. The Braves
have played who's good? The Braves of b Uh. This
(03:01):
is where you're talking about October and the Yankees. Are
you good enough right now? The Astros have your number
and they're gonna come into the into the into the
playoffs incredibly confident if they play you. So while it's
not that big a deal for the Yankees right now
to say, listen, we lost a couple of games and
the Astros it's okay, Uh, this still makes me completely
(03:24):
paranoid and worried about those two teams if I'm a
fan of anybody else in baseball, because the Astros and
the Braves are just at a different level right now.
And know the the Braves aren't in first place, but
they they've beaten back in eleven game lead the Mets
had a little bit over a month ago. And you're
watching the Houston Astros right now. They could have this
division clinch in a couple of weeks the way they're
(03:46):
rolling through the A L S. So yeah, well you
don't want to panic. These two teams scare me right
now more than anybody else in baseball. Got the Astros,
the Braves, and of course we're watching the Dodgers taking
down the Giants to start a big four game series
here at Chevez Ravine, uh and beating up on Carlos
(04:06):
Roddan helped buy some bad defense in right field as well.
But to your point, you're measuring yourself against the best.
And while you you may want to Tampa down because
you think that's what you need to say, we we
know how New York works, we know how sports media works.
Were part of it. It's it's not gonna just get
(04:28):
pushed aside of it's just another mid July game. It's
just not or two games sweep. Even if you did
get the home run from judge your guy, Uh, you're
don on the other side came back and all the
fears of injury and well that that went aside, uh
(04:49):
for for them. So now now you've got to try
to measure up because what it is meaningful games and
and these are right there, they're not just July games.
They're they're the measuring stick. And for the evaluation this
next ten days as we get towards the trade deadline,
(05:10):
that you've got to face some long, long, hard truth.
Is there another bullpen arm we can go to make
things better? Is our rotation strong enough? Are we on
our our bench? You know? Are we protected if someone
gets into slump or or god forbid, the injury bug hits,
like all of those things come into the evaluation because
you can't do another. Hey, the regular season was great,
(05:33):
right and right now the Yankees have been playing on
that for a long time, Jason, great regular seasons and
then a flame out right and and in a year
where you're doing everything and you've got this long documentary
to celebrate the greatness of Derek Jeter right the Captain.
Another episode aired, so you're seeing all little vignettes and
(05:54):
and big moments. You can't have another October flame out.
Otherwise people are poking at jobs again. Twitter at how
about a Fresca? Mike gets swollen to him the Jason
Smith Show with my best friend Mike Carmen Yankees. You
should be a little scared. Everybody should be scared. I'm
a Meds fan. I'm scared, and I don't have to
(06:15):
play the ass again. You should be very scared. We'll
have more baseball coming up throughout the show, but I
want to get back into the NBA for a couple
minutes here, because we had Mark Medina on the show
last hour and last couple of times he's been on
with us, you've been I wanted us through the playoffs.
He has brought us just some absolute gold as far
as inside information on the league, and tonight was no
(06:39):
different because he had a chance to catch up with
Warriors GM Bob Myers at the SPS a night ago.
And while you couldn't talk about certain players by name
because of tampering, and Mark Medina as Bob Myers about
potentially adding another big player to the team this year,
Kevin Durant. We had heard that maybe Kevin Durant and
(07:00):
the Warriors were linked together about a month or so ago,
and Durant made his trade demand, and uh Mark Medina
told us, Yeah, you know what, I don't think that's
gonna happen. We have to speak in code these days,
or else the NBA will find him, you know, for
tampering or whatever. So I get I gave Bob Meyers
a wink wink, and I said, hey, in general terms,
(07:20):
in general terms, how do you guys way making a
major move and knowing the cost of what that would take.
And he started laughing, Oh, in general terms, I know
what you mean. And then he's like, yeah, I like
her team, you know, and where it's at. I want
to give the guys a chance to do it again.
So he knew what I was asking. I knew what
he was saying. That's basically, there's no in how we're
(07:41):
reuniting with Kevin Durant work good. We want a title
this year without him, and we think we can win
a title next year without him as well. Yeah. I
never bought into the the day it happened that Hey,
Kevin Durant could be going back to the Warriors. He's
talked with Steph Curry. I never bought into that because
why would First of all, Kevin to Wrint is all
about his own ego and he wants credit for winning
(08:04):
and for and he's not getting it. He didn't get
enough with the Warriors. Why would he go back? I mean,
I I get that. Hey, uh, you know, maybe conversations
that were had boy would be fun, but there's no
way this was serious because KDE is someone who wants
all the credit for winning. And that's why it's teams
like the Suns or the Heat where they've been good,
(08:25):
because you got to go to a good team but
they haven't been able to get over the top. But
he's the guy that will do it, and that's gonna
give me the credit of being able to win. Now. Meanwhile,
we know Kevin Durance never gonna be happy where he goes.
He's always gonna wind up trying to find a way
to fight with people and be unhappy that he doesn't
get the credit he gets. But there was I never
believe for a second he was going back to the Warriors. Yes,
(08:47):
they just won the championship. They feel pretty good. They
like their young players. They look at the rest of
the Western Conference and go, Okay, nobody else is really
getting better. There's no big free agents that are gonna
change spots and change teams, and suddenly I have to
worry about that. They're gonna get so much better than
No talent is leaving the West it's going to the East. Yeah,
I think we're just fine. I never bought into Katie
(09:09):
with the Warriors, not one bit. Yeah, I thought the
with the four year deal, it doesn't make any sense,
right in terms of what you have to give up
fun little numbers play and theory testing, I guess. But
you know, as as Myers alluded to and said pretty explicitly,
(09:31):
like look at look at what we have to give
up for some of these players, not not wink wink
uh and carefully as Joe Lacob had to give up
the half million dollars avoiding the the tampering charges, but
certainly for Kevin Durant, it's all about what's real, what's imagined?
(09:53):
Relationship with Kyrie? Is it real and met because we
had reports that he was okay. If Kyrie were shipped out,
that is as close as they may be, that he's
grown tired of the drama. Related to team efforts, is
that good sourcing bad sourcing? I don't know, right, but
(10:14):
we certainly have read that in the past. Related to
going back to the Warriors. Is he's still bitter that
he didn't get credit. I don't know. In the night
they won the title, he was slapping back at folks
on Twitter, and one of the lines was, I don't know.
I've been dead since that July four when he signed
the deal. Had do the SPS being this week and
(10:36):
everybody recirculating the old Peyton Manning jokes from a few
years ago, so that that all swirls together in this
But I never gave it a really good chance to
to happen. I didn't believe it at all. But it
was fun theory, fun to see if that would would happen,
and then see how the roasting would begin there after. Jason, Hello,
(11:01):
I guess you're you're you're not too? And how what's
the relationship with Draymond? I was just kidding. Everything's great.
He and I love each other. This has all been
a whole thing to get me on his podcast exactly.
I mean he's like channeling his inner Tyreek Hill, uh,
throwing out, hey two is better than my guy Patrick Moone,
(11:23):
same kind of idea. But yeah, you know this doesn't
surprise me. I mean that the curiosity is, as I
alluded to, the Kyrie and Durant relationship, does he really
want him there? And and is that a deal breaker
or is it a all right, whatever happens happens, because
(11:44):
that that's a fascinating part. But for the Warriors breaking
up the squad they built that looks like it has
legs to run for a number of years. Yeah, no,
you're you're not. You're not upset in that apple cart
for another year or two. No, you need to get
Kevin Durant if you are desperate, right And the last time,
(12:05):
the Warriors were desperate because they had gone to the
finals and they saw, oh, Steph really can't get his
shot off at the end of games. That's that's troubling
for us. We thought he could do it, but he's
too small. We need somebody else takes shots at the
end of games. So they were desperate. They went out
and got Kevin Durant. They won. They're not desperate right
now to make a deal like that. You have to
(12:26):
have some sort of desperation and they don't have it
right now. They don't need to move everything they can
just to maybe get better and maybe we bring this
in but will be better in theory. But are we
gonna be less deep and then suddenly run into other issues?
Who knows if he can get along with Draymond again. Uh,
it's the desperate teams that do it. And this is
(12:47):
why teams like the Suns and the Heat are the
ones that Kevin Durants gonna wind up going to because
they're the desperate ones. The Sons are incredibly desperate. They
were the best team in the NBA last year and
they went out before the conference finals. What just happened.
Chris Paul is not getting younger. Devin Booker is really good,
but boy he's not enough. The Heat, we keep finding
a way to the top of the Eastern Conference, but man,
(13:10):
we can't get over we need. We're desperate. That's who's
gonna wind up getting Kevin Durant. The teams that are
not desperate are gonna do it. And the Warriors are
just not that kind of team. Not that KD would
go but that whole Katie the Warriors thing. I hope
everybody was happy with all the clicks they got Katie
the Warrior. You be happy with those clicks, because that
was not happening like I said it was. It was
(13:31):
fun theory of a reuniting and whether people can get
all mad and and and they're re stacking the deck
as opposed to oh look at you know, whatever disparaging
thing they'll say to either Steph or KD or both
Twitter and abating Lebron. Right, oh sure you have to.
(13:53):
Well you have to. You have to make sure Lebron.
And by the way, I've said it all along, I
don't think Katie goes anywhere. Man, can you imagine? And
all this and he winds up staying, no, no, no,
I'm gonna stay. I'm just not gonna play. I'm just
I'm just I'm gonna stay in there, but I'm not
gonna play because I don't feel like it. Me and
Kyrie are both staying, but we're both not playing. That's
gonna be how we we hit the season going. Good luck,
Ben Simmons, Let's see how you can do. If you
(14:13):
want to pit in the court too, Maybe all three
of us won't play. All three of us will say, yes,
we're nets, We're happy to be here. Are you gonna play? No,
we're not gonna play. Which I think they look at
that roster and they say we can go win. I
don't know that Ben Simmons plays or not. The rest
of the roster is strong enough to compete in the
East if those two guys stay and get back on
the court. Be sure to catch live editions of The
(14:35):
Jason Smith Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern,
seven pm Pacific, Fox Sports Radio The Jason Smith Show
with my best friend Mike Armon. And you know something
going on right now I really can't believe, but uh,
the Dodgers who lead the Giants right now, five one
Evan Longoria just goes deep for the Giant top of
(14:57):
the seventh inning. The Dodgers are claiming to night's crowd
of fifty three thousand, one sixty five the largest crowd
in the majors all season, and even larger than the
All Star Games. That is, I mean, they're they're saying
this is larger than the All Star Game. I need
(15:20):
a full uh scan of all the sections. Yeah, that's
that's a lot of folks that funneled in after the
first pitch. I mean they did show up in drows
for Cody Bellinger, Bobla at night. Doesn't matter when you
get here. As long as you get here, we'll be fine.
We'll start the game. It'll be okay. I watched capacity.
(15:43):
Uh is that? Because that's the thing we got to
judge against, right when we're trying to look at the
number of empty seats out there, fifty six A quick
a quick look on on the internet says it's fifty
six thousand? Is there is? There is full? Fifty three?
(16:06):
Is fulle Is? You don't get to declare a hundred
percent capacity? Why not? Why can't you decline declaring this
is a capacity? Well, I mean if there are fifty
six thousand numbered seats, well, there are fifty six thousand
seats there are that. But if you're if you're a
capacity at fifty three thousand, Jason, what part of fifty
(16:27):
three is a full crowd? There are not fifty six
thousand seats? Okay, all right? It was redone. Okay, Okay,
I'm I'm looking at it. I'm looking at article for
May of this year. But it's okay, it's all right.
I mean, it's all right. He's very defensive. It's right.
We don't we don't talk about that, and we don't
(16:49):
talk about Freddie Freeman's tears. Okay, Star Game attendants. By
the way, guys at fifty two eighteen not allowed five eighteen.
If you've been to Dodger Stadium, they've redone it and
taken out top rows of entire levels and made it
standing room and put on no that's great. All I
want is an official count. So so what you're so,
(17:14):
what you guys are telling me is that more people
hate the Giants than love the All Stars. What were
the prices for Tuesday? And what are the crisis time?
By the way, Yankee Stadium and Dodger Stadium would be
the only fifty thousand seat ballparks in the majors these days.
But so fifty three one sixty five tonight, fifty two
(17:36):
five eighteen for the All Star Game. Something I ever
trying to do the math, it's about it. It's it's
a little bit less than a thousand more I'm doing.
I'm doing the math right now. It's a little bit
less than a thousand. It's about it's about six hundred less.
Uh so there it is the Dodgers the biggest crowd
(17:57):
in Major League Baseball this season? Is it because Billy
Eilish was there, Well, of course it is. That's why.
That's right. When they showed Billie Eilish at the game,
that became the biggest story. It's everywhere they showed Billie Eilish,
and they showed Billy Jane King. Maybe it's a Billy
Knight everybody when people left her house to the game,
that's Billie Eilish is there. Let's go. Maybe Billy from
(18:17):
Stranger Things is at the game. I don't know, it's
maybe maybe Billy Idol is at the game. Ty shot
would be something special. It could be a very big
Billy Knight. Could have been Billy Madison, could have been
could have been Billy Mack, could have been Billy Mack. Reference,
that's this guy. But Billie Eilish at the game. And
that's when my daughter Kim and said, can we go
to the stadium? Now? Maybe other peops, maybe they were
(18:41):
actually thinking, Hey, I'm gonna go do that. There's there's
tickets available. I go see that's Billy Eilish had a
games Come on, wait, wait what, Wait, No, it's true. Actually,
if you look into their history, the brothers a talent
at all. Yeah, I'm gonna say I'm gonna go with
(19:03):
Billie Eilish being the more talent. There's the bigger Jason.
You're acting like she plays an instrument and does all
this stuff. She literally just sings. How's that talent nowadays?
So singing is not talent? Do you listen to her music? Yeah,
I've I've heard a lot of herm so listen to
how much of the production value is her songs? It
doesn't listen. I'm sure there's people who are singing that
(19:24):
aren't real, people that have been by the internet. But
the bottom line is, yesh, star power is star power
and Billy I Eilish checks a lot of boxes. That's
gonna sell a lot of records. That doesn't with or
without Phineas auto tune or not, or does it pro
tools whatever it does respect to Phineas in his career.
(19:44):
Don't get me wrong. Well, Frostburg, you beat me telling
I was ready for the fur blocks. Yea, the summer vacate.
Uh who gets a hundred four days? That he is
four days? You would end like the first week of June.
You go back right after labor Day. That used to
be how it went, not anymore. Now you're going back
(20:05):
middle of August, but used to be from the from
the middle of early June to after labor Day. Yeah,
let's see, that's sixty seventy. Oh No, that's still not
going there. Now, that's still a lot. That's that's three
that's that's three and a half months. No, that's what
I mean. You're still that kame. No. I don't know.
(20:25):
If so Phineas infer bled to me, then yes, they've
lied to me for all these year. Maybe they just
didn't go back and they just get there when I
get there. They lied to us through songs. I hate
when people do that. Oh man, uh so uh coming
up in ninety seconds, Kyler Murray got paid, but is
it a good deal. Be sure to catch live editions
(20:47):
of The Jason Smith Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at
ten pm Eastern, seven pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio
and the I Heart Radio app. It's me Rob Parker.
Check out my weekly MLB podcast, Inside the Parker for
twenty two minutes of piping hot baseball talk, featuring the

in analytics for the eye test, We've got all the
bases cover. New episodes drop every Thursday, So do yourself
a favor and listen to Inside the Parkner with Rob
Parker on the I Heart Radio app or wherever you
get your podcast. That Kyler Murray extension. You're gonna get
into that right now as he now gets a five year,
(21:32):
two hundred and thirty million dollar deal, now among the
richest of all NFL quarterbacks. A hundred and sixty million
dollars of this is guaranteed for injury. He's gonna make
a hundred and five million fully guaranteed upon signing the deal.
This is Kyler Murray now with a forty six million
(21:52):
dollar a year average salary in the NFL. I am
not the biggest Kyler Murray fan in the world. You know,
you've been very down on Kyler Murray and sit down
very down on I'm just I think he's he's not
he's not as good. He's not as great as people
see and and talk about him. He's a really good quarterback, right,
(22:15):
I mean, he's someone he's dynamic. You could see his
impact on the franchise. Every year they've gotten better. He's
a really good quarterback, but he also is a guy
that gets hurt a lot and can't seem to navigate
the end of the season and his team needs him
the most right where the last two years they have
just completely free fallen when the games get to the
(22:36):
point where, hey, we gotta win to make the playoffs,
we gotta win in the playoffs. They have not played
well the end of the season and Kyler Murray has
gotten not exposed, but over the course of the year
it's been it was it's been easier to control him
and keep him from making those big time, uh dynamic plays. So, yeah,
I have some issues with Kyler Murray because he's not
(22:57):
that great. But this is a good d Ill and
this is a This is a good move for the
for the Cardinals. Why because one, they cement their franchise player.
But more importantly, Yeah, you kind of had to give
Kyler Murray that money because in the next five years,
what are the odds you're gonna get better at quarterback.
This is what every team should ask themselves when they
(23:19):
when they want to decide do we pay a quarterback
or not? Because everybody's got questions, Boy, is this a
guy we pay? We gotta figure out that we want
to see more of him? What do we want? It's
pretty easy. What are your odds you can get better
in the next couple of years at the position? If
your odds are, hey, we could, that's when you move on.
When you look at quarterbacks like that, it's pretty simple.
What are the odds of Cardinals gonna get better than
(23:40):
Kyler Murray? Probably not right you're talking about They got
lucky in the draft. They picked number one overall. You
had a quarterback coming out, he turned out to be
really good. They have turned out to be relevant and
win games and get to the playoffs. Okay, great, if
you're replacing him, how difficult is it going to be.
You're not gonna pick number one overall. If you're not
picking in the top two next year, you're not gonna
(24:01):
get Stroud or Bryce Young's not gonna happen. How are
you gonna get better? Other teams are trying to get
by with with guys in the draft this year, whether
it's Malik Willis or or Cody Pickett or Kenny Pickett.
Not Cody Pickett, that would have been a few years ago.
So this is what this is what teams are trying
to do and what you're you're kind of saddled with.
So when you ask yourself that question, Hey, are we
gonna get better if we move on from Kyler Murray
(24:23):
or don't pay him or trade him, the answer is
gonna be no. So okay, that's when you pay the
guy because he is periphery top ten, top twelve quarterback
in the NFL. And you can win with guys like
that as long as you surround uh the guy with talent.
And they didn't make a great trade to go get
DeAndre Hopkins. Yeah, so there's talent there and they can
win with that. They have to be able to navigate
the ends of seasons and play a little bit better
(24:45):
when it's winning time. But that's a that's the way
it goes. If you think you can get better, go
get a new quarterback. It's it. You give me a quarterback.
I'll tell you Daniel Jones. Giants need to get better.
You can get better than Daniel Jones next season, all right,
or you're not gonna get any worse because Angel Jones
is not good. But they're gonna go on another year
for him for reasons unknown. It's pretty simple. Yes, we
(25:06):
can get better from this guy. No, we can't, so
let's stick with us. So this is why you had
to pay Kyler Murray because you weren't going to get
anything better in the next five years. So now he's
your quarterback. Yeah, I mean, what's your path? Right, You've
already extended Kingsbury. They have the same agent. So if
you're going to extend him, given his back end of
years failures going all the way back to college, how
(25:29):
do you not say, hey, Kyler Murray, you're our guy,
And to your your point about how are you going
to get better? What you're gonna trade him? You're gonna
trade him position for position. What are you getting back?
You're gonna trade him for draft picks and hope that
the next guy is better. Right now, you've got a
as he gets ready to turn next month, Jason, You've
(25:51):
got a guy that's completing sixty of his passes and
a total of ninety touchdowns accounted for throwing and rushing
against thirty six turnovers. Yeah, go find the guys that
are much better than that out in free agency or
rolling the dice. Unless you know what what is it? Zultan?
(26:13):
Was the guy that you wanted to go get your
fortune right? If he's gonna spit out a name that's
coming up in a draft next year, been great? Have
had it? Feel feel good about it otherwise? No? Uh,
this is the guy you you plant your flag with
and you move forward. Yeah, you gotta figure out from
an offensive line standpoint, how you keep him upright to
(26:34):
where not everything has to be a design role. Oh no,
it's now done. Run for your life. Yeah, that would
be nice. It would be nice to do that. Obviously,
missing DeAndre Hopkins to start the year not exactly ideal.
Bringing in a guy who's pretty much a run fast
and straight, let me throw it up guy. Not exactly
(26:54):
the ideal replacement for what you've had. Even if you
didn't like Christian Kirk. He can at least run a tree. Uh.
Mark's Brown not that guy fully, So we'll see how
much his game builds and develops as he's going to
be counted on to be massive for them off the jump.
James Connor, I'm not great, you know, to um robust
(27:17):
in in my and bullish on my opinions there, But
they went and they addressed it. They've got other guys
that could be more than just a goal line vulture.
So I think, you know, you put some pieces around him,
and Kingsbury looks in the mirror, and hopefully a long
off season of reviewing second half games to figure out
(27:37):
where they got caught in the cat and mouse game.
And Kyler Murray's still ascending. It's only gonna be twenty five, Jason.
The story is not written yet. No, no, and and
that's why you had to go out and do this.
And as much as I look, there's other quarterbacks, I
question that I would still pay because this is the
going rate for quarterbacks now in the forties of forty million.
(27:57):
This is why you go pay these guys, because you're
not gonna get better. Look, there's some quarterbacks now like
Zach Wilson and Mac Jones and Trevor Lawrence and Justin
Fields and Trade Lance. Well, you have no idea how
good these guys are gonna be there only in their
second year, so you can't tell if you have to
pay him or not. In those last couple of guys
you just talked about, look at the situations they had
as rookies. Yeah, I mean, look at Naggie tried to
(28:19):
get Justin Fields killed and urban Meyer. We haven't had
a chance to go back and have a roach to
him yet. Man, I'll tell you so most well, there's
a lot of there's a lot of players. When you
try to quarterbacks and you when you break it down
and you say would I pay this guy? The answer
(28:40):
for half the league is gonna be yes. There's fifteen
guys I would pay. There's fifteen if they came up
for a new contract, Yeah, I would pay them. I
would pay them going in to to next season and
pay him a lot of money because these are guys
I could win with, right Like I would pay Brady
and Herbert and Stafford and Mahomes and a car and
(29:01):
Joe Burrow and Dak Prescott, Josh Allen and Kirk Cousins
and Aaron Rodgers, and I would pay Kyler Murray. And
I would pay Jalen Hurts and Russell Wilson and Lamar Jackson.
These are all guys I pay. And that you're talking
about half the league. All these guys are good and
you can win with these guys that I mean, that's
that's a lot of players to pay. So it's not
(29:22):
like a lot of folks that would be really upset
with you for including Jalen Hurts on that Jalen Jalen
Hurts had a great year last years, you have another
great year this year. Yeah, I would pay. Now, you
don't have to because he's on a great second you know,
second round contract, but yeah, if it came up, yeah
I would pay Jalen Hurts. Look, these guys, these players.
For everybody who says all the NFL quarterback position, it's
(29:43):
a no. The NFL quarterback position may never have been
as strong in the league as it's ever been right now, because,
like I said, you have half the league that if
it came to and say, hey, it's time for a
new contract for these players, would you give it to them?
Half of the league you would say yes to how
many guys did you said? Would you have said that
about you know, ten years ago, fifteen years ago? Really
(30:04):
half the league? You just gotta be one. You gotta
have a You have a fifty percent chance of having
a quarterback that could be your franchise guy. And even
it's even a bigger percentage than that because I just
told you five or six guys that you don't know
yet you have to wait on because they've only played
a year. So it's it's more than half the league
that you would give a contract extensions to and give
them big money. Yeah, the quarterback positions, this is the
(30:25):
best it's ever been. Very way. Oh it's not, no,
it is it's really really good. This is why people
are getting paid like this. That's why Kyler Murray's getting
forty six million dollars a year. Twitter and how about

an update from the Dodger game. What's going on allowed

was a nervous laugh. Frostburg. It is a five run
seventh thing for the Giant bad pitch. Yeah yeah, Alex
Bessi comes in and gives up a grand slam. So
(31:06):
this game is now tied at five apiece. Hey, We'll
have more on this, whether Frostburg likes it or not.
But coming up next another big story that combines both
the best of the NFL and the best of the NBA.

Dodgers and Giants side at five apiece in the bottom
of the seventh t J that at bat in the
top of the seventh inning, a very rough one for
the Dodgers, uh five run seventh Grand Slam has tied
(31:51):
this game at five apiece. Now, we talked about Kyler
Murray a few minutes ago, and now he's averaging forty
six million dollars a year, and an interesting thing, and
just just think about this for a few minutes, because
I really love this. This this aspect of it is
that we have now seen, you know, we're in the
part of the off season in both the NBA and
(32:11):
the NFL where guys are getting paid and seeing the salaries.
I said a couple of weeks ago on the show,
we talked about this that by twenty thirty there will
be a hundred million dollar a year player in either
the NBA or the NFL, and the NFL would obviously
be a quarterback because that too gets paid. But now
as time has gone on the last couple of weeks,
(32:33):
I would put all my money in the NBA basket
because that that's who's gonna wind up getting a hundred
billion dollars a year. Because we've already seen Nicola Yokich
at sixty two million dollars the last year of his deal,
which comes up in in a couple of years. The
money for the NBA players is just it's just increasing
more exponentially than NFL players are. Look. MLB players are
(32:58):
still in the mid thirties. You know, Scott Boris is
gonna hold out for one soda to get like forty
five million dollars a year. But overall, uh, the Major
League Baseball is a little bit behind NFL. You're gonna
you're gonna see the salaries be tiered for a little
while as we're at forty five fifty million for the
top quarterbacks, and that will move up a little, you know,
(33:19):
more incrementally. But by the time we get to twenty
thirty in the NBA, someone's gonna be making a hundred
million dollars a year. That's just the way it's it's
and it's nobody that's in the league right now unless
John Morant wins the next four championships, and it's like,
we gotta give you a hundred million dollars a year, man,
because you're awesome. But that's by twenty thirty. You'll see
(33:39):
somebody in the NBA making a hundred million dollars a
year by five, So another three years, you'll see somebody
making seventy five million dollars a year in the NBA,
to be seventy five million by five and a hundred
million by Yeah. I'd have to go through the contracts
to see who's coming up, because obviously we're we're awaiting
(34:01):
the I don't I don't want to say put out
to pasture, but I will, uh the the old guard
from the NBA side of things, right, guys that are
in those final throws. How most of the guys that
we've been talking about all summer long, we'll be hitting
that stage. But if Adam Silver's you know, gets what
he wants and what he's theorized about tripling the overall
(34:26):
revenue to that seventy billion, then yeah, half of it
goes to the players, which means we're gonna start seeing
some really funny money start flowing through. Not that this
isn't too many. I just said, it's you know what
where businesses and what the market will bear. But we'll
see it there. Soccer is interesting. You got uh Imbob
(34:48):
now at sixty million, but that greatly outpaces Messy and
others who are at thirty five to forty making a
hundred million dollars in endorsements, uh partnerships and everything else,
but certainly not on field. So we'll see how that grows. NFL, no,
not to that level. It'll it'll continue to rise, but
a slower growth. Yeah. That the highest curve right now
(35:12):
would be the NBA and NICOLEA Yokich. I want to
I want to know how many sulkies he bought himself
m v P and a giant contract. Come on, that's
gotta be worth something. Muh twitter at how about a
Fresca mikeet Swollen on the Jason Smith Show with my
best friend Mike Harmony. I would say, by in the NFL,
(35:33):
maybe they'll be about eight eight five million a year.
Maybe that's where it's I mean, it's always gonna grow
bigger and faster than you think. But boy, you know,
to grow thirty five million dollars a year, the next
eight years for quarterback. Yeah, I can see them. I
could see it happen. I could see Zach Wilson getting
that eighty five million dollar year extension after he wins
a couple of Super Bowls. That'll happen. Supporting the Moms
