(00:23):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio. Well scratch one Soto
from the Dodgers. Not getting him now, Just Cody Bellinger
saves his job as the Dodgers starting center fielder for
at least a few more days. A grand slam he
(00:44):
just hit in the bottom of the eighth inning. Agent
Cody on the case, t J must have motivated him
with our talk last night. Uh, just curves it in
inside the foul pole. Grand slam for Cody. Linger gets
a curtain call and everything. Now he's hitting a robust
two oh eight. The Dodgers lead the Giants five to
(01:07):
one in the bottom of the eighth inning, and uh, now,
now forget it. You gotta gotta get one Soto by
the deadline. Now maybe we're not or maybe now he's
hot and they can trade him. Maybe they can trade bellow.
He's hot. He had Grand slammed. They're burning up the
phone lines. We're gonna look, he had a curtain call
in a home run. They're calling Rob Polinka to see
if they could get Taylor Horton Tucker for Cody Bellinger.
(01:28):
Right now. We hadn't said that name in it all
week long. Soot that you got it in here in
the final hour. It's been a Buddy Healed week. He's
trending on Twitter every day to Taylor Horton Tuck. No,
this is a Buddy Healed week. Buddy, so we had
to we got to try to make make that happen.
Let's say in the month of July, we're looking at
(01:49):
a split of two hundred. Coming into today, he was
ten of fifty mm hmmm, that in one ninety in
the month of June with five home runs eleven rbi. Yeah,
but now you got a curtain call and everything. Now
he's now he's got a where did the contract extension
(02:11):
gets signed? After? After the game tonight? Just watch he's
he signed for the rest of this year. He signed
a one year, seventeen million dollar deal. So, uh, certainly
one of those guys that comes up in the trade
talk and the what do we do with Cody? It's
amazing for a guy who has clearly peaked years ago
(02:32):
that there is still not even not even whispers of,
hey man, we gotta move on from this guy. I mean, really,
it's it's been a long time since he was any good.
It's been it's been it's been since you know. I
mean I get that. Well, we had COVID every yeah,
but we still played scenes as a Cody Belinger hasn't
(02:52):
been good. This is his fourth season since then. Yes,
he was great that he won the m v P.
His war was nine. It was a phenomenal year for him.
But he has just been the you know, in the
in the three years since, and he's now another year
where he can't even hit two weeks barely in two hundred.
It's on the three. He's on a four year downturn.
He had one great year, one great year, right, this
(03:15):
is when year was really good. Yes, he had ninety,
had nineties seven r bis, he was good. Um, but
he had one great year. Let's just say, had one
great year and that's been it. And man, I don't
know how you go forward with him. I really don't.
I know, the grand slant and hey that's great, but uh, man,
if you could get Juan Soto and you could get
the Nationals to take your for the four any four
(03:38):
players you want to give them from your minor league system,
you kind of gotta do that. You know. What's so
scary though, is he's only twenty seven. Yeah, just a
week ago. How crazy is that? It seems like we've
known about Cody Bellinger for about a hundred years. You
have Alon Sotos twenty three, so there no well hey, hey, no, no, no,
(04:02):
the same thing. I've certainly known about him a number
of years. But yeah, just twenty three and still two
years control on the current deal. Um, yeah, it's a
no brainer, man, come on, yeah, look and and want
once so it was a better player, and you can move,
you can move players around to play different positions. But look,
Bellinger's the guy. Man, he's playing center field and he's
(04:24):
bat in eighth and ninth. I mean, this is this
is you get the point you're the Dodger lineup, you
get outside of that fifth spot and you look at
some of the players, you go, we just have nothing
down the bottom of that lineup. You know, what today though,
Grand Slam. Yeah, has our guy Victor Brick would say, yeah,
good thoughts, vick Um feeling you. And it was against
(04:50):
the hated Ones. M hm yes, still the day after
bubble head night, right head and he sell the rate
it tonight. Yeah, but we still got a sweat kimberl
in the ninth inning, so you never know. Uh. Meanwhile,
it looks like a fourteen game win streak is about
to come to an end. The Seattle Mariners, who have
(05:12):
won that many in a row, trail the Astros in
the ninth in inning five to two. So Nathan Mariners
a loose fourteen in Rome. But just like the Angels.
Uh so, their fourteen game win streak could come to
an end. But they are coming up in the bottom
of the ninth th inning. Uh So we'll head to
Vegas coming up in a few minutes, get all the
latest news from there, we'll talk NFL. We got big
(05:34):
stuff from the NBA MLB second half of the season.
But today was a day, really, the last twenty four
hours in National Football League where we had four great
headlines and it's all about something that we disagree on
all the time. But I gotta tell you there is
nothing bad about these next four stories because in the
last twenty four hours we have seen four new helmets
(05:59):
get abuted by teams in the NFL, and they are
all glorious. Now some of them are more glorious than others,
but they are all there is. There is none of
there's not one store. I go, oh boy, this is awful.
This is this The NFL finally does a good thing
well not finally, but they do a good thing in
saying that with the uniforms because it's always they always
(06:20):
make it so tough to change and to go to
different looks, and they've allowed teams to now go to
alternate helmets. Okay, now you're seeing teams do this and
they're coming with up with alternate helmets, a little bit
of alternate logos. You can sell more merch with that.
And uh, four teams in the last twenty four hours
of given us new helmets, and the first team, the
Philadelphia Eagles. I always say, you can't go wrong with black, right,
(06:42):
Black is a great color. It looks great on everything.
And the Eagles didn't really change the helmets so much
as well. Here's the logo and it's black and white. Okay,
but it still looks pretty sharp and I still like it.
I'll give that a solid seven and a half because again,
you can't really go wrong. It's we're not trying to
reinvent the wheel, but sometimes, you know, maybe that's the
(07:05):
simpler thing is best. So I'm gonna give the Eagles
helmet a seven and a half. Seven and a half
for just painting is spray painting something black? That's dude,
black works, man, I don't know. I don't black look.
As a guy who's got a closet full of black
T shirts, I know it well, but sometimes a little
(07:25):
splash of color it would be nice. Well, and that's
why I give the Jets an eight because they're black
on black look with just a little bit of green.
The stealth black. Well, it still says Jet. Nothing you
do about that, but Jets. No, you got the Jets
and the football on it. That is a sharp look, man,
(07:47):
I'm giving I'm giving the Jets like an eight and
a half. That's a that's a really good looking helmet.
They may not win, you're really trying to win the
off season here, and we're trying to win the off
season and helmets, uh, you know, they look. They may
not win a lot of games, but they'll look good
in the game they play there. And they got some
high profile games that they're going to use that black
helmet for that. I'll tell you black, black on black
(08:07):
is even better than just black. I mean, it's so good.
Like I love black. I'm wearing a black on black
T shirt right now and I love the logo on it. Oh,
this is fantastic. Double up. No, it's a good look.
It's good look stealth uniform and whatever else they're gonna
call it, uh, and they're gonna wear it black. Ye,
stealth three times for home games, one of which is
(08:30):
a Thursday night football game against the Jaguars. I think
the Jets are hoping that no one sees them coming.
It's the stealth black. We can't hear, can't even hear
them when the defensive back is going to jump in
front of you for the interception and take it all
the way. Well, the only way they'd be faster is
if they put racing stripes on there. Oh, stealth with
(08:51):
racing stripes. Now that they're not really stealth anymore, are
you well, No, they can still be fast. Stealth fighters
are fast. You can't hear them. They still move asked.
You can be stealth and quiet and they're not. They're
not mutually exclusive from one another. I'm just saying, if
you're gonna be stealthy, you don't want to be seen, right,
stealth bombers in the military, here are plans. Yea, their
(09:13):
jet black, but you don't see them until they're on
yet they're there of bombers. But but why don't you
want them to be fast? Why can't they be fast?
I didn't mean they weren't fast. I'm just saying you
shouldn't be seen. Point stripes on you probably don't help,
probably gonna stand out. And they're here. That looks really
damn cool. What the hell is that? It's like, oh
(09:36):
so you already clocked it. What if they were black
racing stripes now black on black, black on black racing stripe,
black on black on black, you'll never see them coming.
Why does Wilson have a mom decal on his helmet?
Says I heart moms. Well, the decals to stand out
(09:58):
a little, but I I gotta give you that. Uh so, okay,
So seven and a half of the Eagles, eight and
a half of the Jets I will give you a
nine for the Dallas Cowboys what they're gonna wear Thanksgiving,
and I believe one other game. They're bringing back the
white helmets with the blue star and not the modernized
look that they wore in the nineties and early two thousands,
(10:18):
where it was the white helmet with the blue star
and it had the uh uh the the supporting color
around it. It It just looked a little bit too modern. No,
this is like sixties throwback white helmet, blue star. By itself,
this this says throwback. This is a this is a
helmet that gets the throwback done right and not well
it's a throwback, but it's got a modern look because
(10:39):
that's a difficult needle to thread. Sometimes you can pull
it off, sometimes you can't. A lot of times you can't.
Know this is this is strict throwback white helmet, just
the blue star. That looks great, not and a half.
Because now we're going deeper into the uh, the history,
and that means we're we're in what don Meredith Craig
Morton era, Oh yeah, I think you do. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
(11:01):
that's where you are you oh yeah, you are right there.
And if you want to go all the way back
in time. It's the the greatness of Eddie La Baron.
Oh yeah, Rafel California tying everything together because we had
sun Raffel and a reference to that with Jason Cole.
You gotta listen to the whole show. Get the podcast
uh coming up next hour. M wherever you download your
(11:22):
audio Jason Smiths, you know with Mike Harmon Harmon downloaded,
give it five stars, would love you forever and ever. Amen.
So they get the nine and a half and also
getting the nine and a half. Look. We knew this
was coming. We had seen mock ups of it. But
the white Bengal helmet, uh, the white helmet with the
black with the black uh design on the black stripes,
(11:44):
that just looks outstanding. I can't I can't wait to
see that white and black on white look with the
Bengals wearing their white uniforms, which with that little bit
of orange, that's gonna look outstanding. I mean, that's like, whoa.
This looks like one of those teams where not only
are they a t but they just look like an
level up because because how clean of a look that's
gonna be. That's my that's almost perfection in the helmet,
(12:07):
and I realize, okay, we're just making the helmet white
instead of making an orange. But sometimes a simple look,
the simple changes are the best. And sometimes teams like
the Jets and the Bengals, all right, we gotta do.
We gotta do the short and and and the simple
ones because the big ones that may not play out
for us. No organizationally, you can't take two big a stride.
You gotta get that organizational stability first. And and they're
(12:29):
all still working on that obviously, the Bengals much further
along in that process right now. But to bring the
Siegfried and Royal helmet out, that's great a tiger and celebration,
but there's a guy with a chair and you know,
spinning around on a stage. Be sure to catch live

Big goings on tonight. Looks like the Dodgers aren't gonna
trade for Juan Soto because Cody Bellinger had a grand slam.
Greig Kimbero closes it out. Dodgers went it over the
Giants by the final of five to one. The Blue
(13:12):
Jays score twenty eight runs tonight against the Red Sox,
including and inside the park grand slam, which really doesn't
make any sense, all right, It really doesn't, because this
is a ball that's hit over the center fielder's head.
Center field turns around and just kind of stands there
and looks, and let's Alex for dougo come all the
(13:33):
way from left field and get the ball, and it
turns into an inside the park grand slam and it
tend nothing lead. Yeah, Jared Duran loses it and has
that look and that's fine, and you see the ball
drop in behind him like something out of his sitcom.
But then he turns around and just watches like he
makes no movement or has no idea of pretending that
(13:55):
he's involved in this play anymore. Like that's that's the
walk of game. Come on, that's the bad as it gets.
Shame Shane, Like Shane, there should have been a bell
at his stool when he got back to the clubhouse there.
What is that bell of shame Shane? You know, just
(14:19):
think if he makes a better play on that, maybe
the final scores I just made but a little bit
of effort might have been nice that maybe uh two
run shy of the modern record that was set back
in two thousand seven, I believe of thirty runs, uh
the all time record thirty six runs that's before. But
(14:40):
the Blue Jays, even when the Red Sox had a
position player pitching in the ninth inning, they got a run,
but they left two guys on, so they could have
tied or potentially broke the record, but they couldn't break
through against position player. So they have to go with
twenty eight runs on twenty nine hits to win this
game over. The Red Sox. Joining us now on the
(15:02):
hotline are Insider in Las Vegas. You can check them
out on Twitter at Todd Ferman That is at Todd Furman,
Fullmer Rod's Maker at Caesar's. Check them out on CBS Sports.
Also co founder the Bet the Board podcast, Todd. Were
you at Derek Carrs press conference today when he was
talking with a Southern accent and not happy with the
(15:23):
line of questioning reporters were giving him. I was not
they I was not at the press conference. They don't
extend me those types of media credentials. Unfortunately, why not
you're you're Mr Vegas. How do how do you not
get those I'm looking for different information than oftentimes the
players are willing and able to provide for us. Uh,
maybe you could you hoodwink him into telling you something
(15:44):
he shouldn't. Well, we can read between the lines with
some of the comments that they'll list you. You You just
hope the reporters do to have you lifting for you
first and foremost, and then you try and ascertain the
details that can be profitable where they matter most. All right,
So let's start with these details. Juan Soto has been
the talk of this week. Is the Nationals are listening
to offers for him. We heard from Bob Nightingale, USA
(16:04):
Today reporter a day ago, seven teams in the mix
for Juan Soto. Where do you think he ends up?
Who's the favorite right now in Vegas? You know, it's
interesting when you look at some of the players obviously
like this that don't become eligible all that often to
try and get traded to higher profile teams. I think,
you know, you know a number of teams can be
thrown out there, but the real question is who has
(16:26):
the package of put in place, who wants to make
the long term commitment, because you're not going to mortgage
the farm trying to give Soto, you know, a one
year of time commitment with you. So for me, I
begin to look through it, and I think Seattle makes
an awful lot of sense. When you're talking about a
Mariners team that's got deeper pockets than they're giving credit for.
They have plenty of prospects that they'd be willing to
trade in that kind of deal. And if they did
(16:47):
want to make the kind of commitment that it's going
to require to lock up on Soto long term, you
suddenly have, you know, two of the best outfield to
the best young outfielders and all the baseball with him
paired up with Julio Rodriguez. So I'd make a slight
case for them instead of the usual of suspects and
the Mets, the Yankees, Dodgers, etcetera. Well, we're hoping for
things to shake up the apple cart, So I gotta
dig that, hey, don ye has been given permission to
(17:10):
go find a trade partner for Jimmy g If I
were to say he's elsewhere or under center for the
forty Niners, where's the money? Uh? Telling me? And what
is what do you think, you know, not a whole
lot of opportunity to market like this. You have five
teams all priced at five to one or shorter. I
think a lot of people go, oh, he would make
a lot of sense in Cleveland. I just don't see
that being the case. If they're gonna bring in Josh Rosen,
(17:32):
they may feel comfortable going to battle with Rosen uh
and Jacoby Versat while they wait for the Deshaun Watson
situation and play out. I look at some of the
other teams up there, I can't see a scenario with
the forty Niners would trade him in the division to
Seattle for a seatos team that wants to rebuild. It's
just merely band aid over the situation. So I think
it seemed like the Giants would be a little bit
of a sleeper in that spot. If Brian Dable believes
(17:53):
that he has a pocket passer and he doesn't feel
comfortable with Daniel Jones, I could see them being a
little bit of a long shot. But the reality of
things here, guy, is the forty Niners aren't gonna get
a whole heck of a lot. They've obviously exhausted every
Avenue and at this point they're just probably hoping for
a compensatory pick or something in the fourth or fifth round. Yeah,
that's I feel like they just they held on to
him too long, and Trey Lance wasn't there guy they
(18:14):
thought he was going to be, and now they're kind
of stuck. I I don't know that they might not
be stuck with him into the regular season, because if
if a team doesn't suffer an injury or they don't
come into camp and go, man, we gotta do something,
they may have no choice but to keep them. Well.
I think the injury kind of derailed some of those plans.
Teams aren't going to run and mortgage a whole lot
(18:35):
not knowing where Jimmy is in his recovery and the
fact that he's not able to work through O T
A s and throw a potential receivers or maybe even
see live bullets during preseason camps. So I think that's
where the forty Niners may have their most leverage. But
clearly they don't want to waive him, so they're happy
to take any pick, and the other teams in the
league know that. And I don't see a team desperate
enough to overpay for Jimmy Garoppolo at this point, even
(18:56):
though I'm probably a lot more bullish on him than
most All Right, Todd, I've seen you on Twitter trying
to do some general education and and this is where
a lot of folks are dabbling in the marketplace. What's
the biggest misconception, uh and thing that you see in betting,
advice given or understanding or lack thereof. Well, I mean,
I think there's so many different directions to go. I
(19:18):
think people become enamored with picking the team they think
and win a game. And in baseball, obviously the money
line becomes the great equalizer that Yes, it doesn't take
you going out in a limb thinking that Garret Cole
and the Yankees are going to get the best of
the Orioles tomorrow in Jordan Lyles. But that's why you
have to put up two dollars in twenty cents to
make a dollar coming back. And along those same lines
is the idea that sports books will get fifty cents
(19:40):
on each team of every dollar wager. And that's never
quite the case. I mean, books no going into any
Thursday night during the summer months of Major League Baseball
they're gonna have to root against the Yankees or the
Dodgers or the Astros, because if one of those teams
goes down, it blows up a lot of the parlay
liability it's there. And the same thing applies through college
football or NFL weekends. If every dollar in the sports
(20:00):
betting marketplace not created equally, so books are obviously going
to move off opinions they respect a lot more than
some recreational customers, even if they're betting larger amounts. Todd
Ferman with US our Insider in Vegas at Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmen live from the Fox Sports Radio Studios.
All right, so Frostburg has been telling me this all night,
and and so we need your opinion on this. Uh,
(20:21):
some money's but a lot of money has been coming
in on Justin Herbert for m v P in the NFL.
Are you seeing a trend towards Herbert other guys getting
some money put on them when you see the odds,
you know, when you look at the quarterback position, I
don't think it'll shock anyone to see, you know, the
marquee names all up there with relatively short odds. But
those markets can be a lot more speculative than than
anything else when you're talking about recreational betters trying to
(20:43):
catch lightning in a bottle. So, Herbert Allen, a lot
of the quarterbacks in the a f C that have
that cashe or tracting attention. What I have actually team
that will make Frostburg a little bit happier. Some of
the guys that respect the most are actually betting the Chargers,
not only for as far as justin Herbert's can. They're
focused a little bit more on the headline market. So
I've seen a little bit of money come in on
(21:04):
the Chargers to win the Super Bowl at prices of
eighteen to one or greater. You also saw the Chargers
take significant money to win the a f C West
earlier this offseason at a price north of Florida one.
That number continues to tick down, and it wouldn't shock
me at all if we see them close his co
favorites before their Week one opener, right there alongside the
Kana City Chiefs. Todd would be remiss. We didn't dive
(21:24):
into the silly season of the NBA that is suddenly
just stopped. Is there anything in the marketplace or noise
in Vegas. That gives us any indication of how all
of these dance card with these veterans, uh, disgruntled veterans
comes to an end. Yeah, not really. I mean, I
think at this point books have taken a lot of
those prices off the board, So you can't speculate with
(21:46):
your dollars anymore on where you believe Kevin Durant will
play his first meaningful minute next season. The same thing
applying to Russell Westbrook and Kyrie Irving. So for as
hot as those names getting circulated and potentially moving to
different destinations to start off next season, and everything is
kind of calmed down a little bit. Uh, And every
day that passes and there isn't a trade that gets consummated.
My sense is that you're gonna see Kevin Durant potentially
(22:09):
right back there with Kyrie Iring doing battle as a
member of the Brooklyn Nets. But it's still bear watching.
You never know when some of those blockbusters can happen.
We saw a big trade in the NHL tonight. Um,
well after hours, we'll see if the NBA has something
in store over the next four to six weeks. Todd,
did you have the over for eighteen violations by Tennessee
or did you have the under on that you know.
(22:30):
I think Tennessee has to see this as somebody smiling
upon them from the n c A in Fractions office,
because they're gonna ultimately end up saving money as far
as Jeremy Pruitt's buy out is concerned, when the dust
settles here, because this will give them cause. And I
think in this day and age, and we see how
slowly the n c A and Fractions Committee handles any
of these things, most of the things that Tennessee has
been accused of doing, and I'm sure there's documentation for it,
(22:52):
are now smiled upon in our new era of college
sports where we are. I'm just disappointed that Tennessee only
could spend sixty dollars on players. And that's probably why
they're right around a five hundred football team in the SEC.
Certainly something to do with it. So if a team scores,
say twenty eight runs in a game, what do you
do with him? The next day? You probably look at
try and make a case for the Red Sox being
a little bit more uh tightened up as far as
(23:15):
they're pitching and defense is concerned. The problem being is
I'm not exactly sure what the Red Sox are gonna
do as far as their starting rotation, because the offense
had carried them. But no offense in Major League Baseball
is capable of hanging thirty. If they're pitching staff is
gonna give up twenty eight. So we'll see how Alex
Manoa affairs tomorrow, knowing he's gonna get a bunch of
piste off Red Sox players looking at trying a tone
(23:36):
for a twenty three run to Bockle. Tonight, he's on
Twitter at Todd Ferman. That is that Todd Ferman CBS
Sports as well, but the Board podcast Todd as always,
thanks for your time, my friend. Enjoyed the weekend. We'll
talk to you next week. Always a pleasure, gentleman. You
guys do the same. Appreciate you, buddy, Thank you. There
it goes Todd Ferman. Uh, you know, speaking of odds
on trades all, we got a big one coming up next.
(23:58):
It looks like it's not gonna happen. But first be
sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith Show
with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven pm Pacific. Hey,
it's me Rob Parker. Check out my weekly MLB podcast,

Parkner with Rob Parker on the I Heart Radio app
or wherever you get your podcast now. The one thing
about a Juan Soto trade that I don't think this
(24:45):
is as big a deal as people are making it out, Mike,
and that we've heard for the past few days. Hey,
the team is being sold. They want clarity on Juan Soto.
They don't want Juan Soto situation hanging over the team
when the team is sold. And I don't see that
being an issue at all, because when they turned down
(25:05):
four and forty million dollars, right, Juan Soto turns down
four and forty million dollars. Yes, it wasn't a great
deal as it could have been because it was twenty
nine million dollars a year, which is lower than Jan
Soda would get. Look, that's what the market is so
if he turned down four and forty one million dollars
Scott Boris and Juan Soto, this means, hey, we're going
to free agency in a couple of years, and way
(25:27):
do you see the contract we get. So if you
buy the Nationals, okay, you know you're not gonna have one,
so you can decide to sign him if you want him,
but you don't need to worry about, oh, I'm buying
the team and Juan Soda. We have to worry about
is that now he could walk away. You could he
could walk away at the end, or you can trade
him whenever you feel like. If you don't trade him
this year, you can trade him next year, you trade
(25:48):
him the year after. Whatever you want, whatever you think
you're gonna get, You're not gonna be saddled with money.
You're not gonna have to worry about solving the situation.
It's clear you made a big offer and maybe this
was done so whoever buys the Nationals next can come
in and not have to worry about the specter of
of of and the ghost of Juan Soto's contract extension
hanging over the team. And now it's well, he turned
(26:10):
us down. We know he's gonna go. Okay, I don't
see this as as an impetus to say, well, because
we're selling the team, we gotta get Soto situation settled. No,
it's settled. He's not taking any money and you can
either trade him or hold on to him, and you're
paying and you're paying him in two or three years,
or you're trading him away. It's not that big a deal. Yeah,
you're a new ownership group. You figure out how much
cash you have available, and maybe you make him I
(26:33):
don't know a better huffer uh and stranger things have happened.
But the larger is that you've got him under control
for two more years. As much as people may not
like that, right, he is still have his contract. You
still have him as a member of your squad to
go and sell revenue, sell suite, sell whatever else. And
(26:54):
if at the time, uh, something comes up that and
a trade offer that makes set is there, then yeah,
then at that point you move forward and then guess what,
you go figure out how to find your next Juan Soto,
whether your organization is able to build and develop a
player in house, or you have to go into the
(27:16):
open marketplace. You know what, because maybe a new ownership
group allows you to get past any of the fog
and distance yourself from some of the moves that have
been made to jittison top notch talent time and time again,
post that World Series win Twitter, and how about a

the Jason Smith Show with my best friend Mike Harmon,
And uh, right now, that big trade the Lakers were
hoping to make the reason why Buddy Healed trends every
single day? I think it's just to troll me. I
mean it's it's like ray Leota and Goodfellas when these
(28:39):
when the helicopters, it's just following me? Is it follow me?
I feel like you stir the sauce. Buddy Healed trends
every day just for me, Like, why, why why the Lakers?
I want the Lakers to get Buddy Helled just so
we can stop talking about it. But but you gotta
play the hits, my man. It looks like this big
trade with the Pacers is dead for now because the
(29:01):
Lakers won't include one more first round drafting. So the
Lakers could get rid of Russell Westbrook, they could get
Buddy Heals, the shooter who could really help Miles Turner,
who's a pretty talented big man at twenty six years old,
but they won't include one more first round draft pick.
And at this point, what the hell? You've traded every
first round draft pick of the twenties. What's one more
(29:24):
to get you out of the Russell Westbrook situation? And
maybe you don't waste another year of Lebron James and
Lebron and a d and Miles Turner and Buddy Healed.
You could really get something done and maybe win some games.
When you've traded away every other single first round draft pick,
why not do it here? You don't even need to
have a scouting department for the rest of the next
decade because you don't have a first round pick. So
(29:45):
all you do in the second round as you turn
to Rich Paul and say, hey, dude, who do you
got and clutch sports in the second round here, Oh,
I got this kid out of Seaton Hall. Great, we'll
take him. And that's how you draft. And you don't
have to worry about even paying a scouting department. You
get out from under that as well for the next
eight years. This is a and win for the Lakers. Yeah,
I just I don't understand the hang up on a
draft pick that's years away. And if you're the organization
(30:08):
that your fans and you profess to be right the
excellence of execution in history and look at all these
titles and finals appearances and all these legends. Then you've
got to believe and act accordingly that that's what you're
gonna be seven years. Hence, I e. You're drafting at
(30:30):
the back end of the first round, where the guy
probably doesn't have a role as a rookie, as a
second year player, or really perhaps not in the NBA
at all. I mean, as we watched the draft year
after year, it's the alright, how many of these guys
on the back end you have, they're guaranteed contracts, but
really become true contributors on a larger scale. It's it's
(30:52):
a lottery ticket at best, a scratch off that goes nowhere.
So why would you not get rid of those to
better yourself? Now, I don't, I don't understand the logic.
I I don't either. I mean, and this is this
is where this is illustrates just the mess the Lakers
are in right here, the Lakers talking with the Pacers
(31:13):
about trading Russell Westbrook and moving on. And meanwhile, Lebron
and a D and Russell Westbrook had a meeting three
days ago committing to each other for this year, and
we know what we're going to take a blood oath
and yet find a sharps rock and cut their hands
and they touched their fingers together like you did when
you were a kid. Hey, and now you can't do
that anymore, obviously, uh and And Darvin Hamm is saying
(31:35):
how excited he is. He knows exactly how he's gonna
use Russell Westbrook this year, but yet the team is
trying to trade him. Nobody is on the same page here.
It's clutch sports, it's the Lakers, it's we're keeping with
the player. Some of the players want to keep them
clutch sports why they have no idea what's going on
right now? They are not together at all. And this
is the biggest blank show in the NBA that you
(31:58):
can have players saying we're committing to each other there
while they're offering one of the guys around the league
for whatever they can get from him. This is this
is peak Lakers and and peak Lakers blank showness of
the past ten years because outside of the look they
put it together for the one year they won the championship, great,
they did it, and it's an awesome accomplishment, but man,
(32:18):
the other ten years surrounding it have been terrible. And
this is peak Lakers showing you this is why we're
such a mess. Well, we we always talk about the
mom and pop shop. We talked about the circle of
advisors and and trusted voices. This is where you've got
to expand that circle. You've got to find someone to
come in and just tell you reality and look at
(32:39):
this probably requires the conversation with Lebron James, even though
as much as you don't want to give control to
Clutch and all of that stuff, but the reality is,
all right, do you really want Russell Westbrook? Like, what's real?
What's imagined in these phone calls and these conversations of
committing for the next year? What does that mean? You
(33:00):
signed contracts? You don't have a damn choice. Uh See,
contracts aren't worth it. They used to be in my
carment you can they could be worth a lot or
they could be worth nothing, depending on the day. You
can show up and get paid or you cannot. Yeah,
that's all. That's all. Uh So we while the Lakers
are continued to be a mess, and we tell you why,
(33:20):
this is why the Lakers. I don't know, Derek Carr
on these guys we can't get with with with a
Southern accent. Damn Hey, bigger Grand Slam tonight, Cody Bellinger's
Grand Slam to beat the Giants or the Inside the
Park Grand Slam for the Blue Jays win. I mean,
I love the happy fields for Cody and being able
to get out there and and they held back going
(33:42):
back out on the field so he could be first
and get the ovation the Inside the parker because that
might be the dumbest looking play that I've ever seen.
You want to talk about lack of effort, that's that's
coaching one on one all the way down to minor
league baseball. Twitter it out about a Fresca Mike and
Swollen Dome The Jason Smith Show with my best friend
